After it was revealed that the Muslim shooter who on Thursday murdered four US Marines in Chattanooga, Tennessee was the son of a man who previously was on the terrorist watch list, new details have surfaced about the father.It has been widely reported that the shooter, Muhammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, was a naturalized American born in Kuwait.While it's true his mother Rasmia Abdulazeez is from Kuwait, where Muhammod was born in 1990, multiple reports reveal that the attacker's father Youssuf Abdulazeez actually hailed from Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria, a city under Palestinian Authority (PA) control.Apparently Abdulazeez the father traveled to Kuwait where he married and had Muhammod, before the family relocated to the US.The Palestinian connection was also demonstrated by pictures posted on Facebook recently by Muhammod's family member, either a sister or cousin, who put up an image featuring a fist grasping a loudspeaker in the colors of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flag with the words: "speak for Palestine!"Abdulazeez lived with his parents in Hixson, Tennessee, located near Chattanooga where the shooting took place.His father reportedly is employed by the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department and as of 2005 was appointed to be an unarmed special policeman by the Chattanooga City Council, reports Business Insider.That comes despite the fact that Youssuf Abdulazeez was investigated several years ago for donating money to an organization possibly connected to a foreign terrorist organization. Counterterrorism investigators are looking closely at a trip to Jordan in 2014 by Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, the 24-year-old shooter who conducted two attacks on Thursday in Chattanooga, Tennessee, The Wall Street Journal reports.The investigation will try to determine whether the shooter had contact with any extremists or traveled to other countries from Jordan, people familiar with the investigation told the newspaper.Abdulazeez spent about seven months in Jordan last year, according to one person close to the investigation. The visit was one of a number of trips he took to that country during his life. He also held Jordanian citizenship, officials said.Abdulazeez died in a gunfight with police, shortly after firing a rifle at two military facilities in Chattanooga. A recent Breaking Israel News article about the nascent Sanhedrin’s intention to put Pope Francis on trial in absentia for his recognizing the Palestinian state has caused quite a ruckus.Though it may seem shocking to many that a group of rabbis would interfere in international policy, or exert authority over the Pope, the Sanhedrin feels compelled to do so. Rabbi Dov Stein, the secretary of the Sanhedrin, explained to Breaking Israel News that he feels it is their duty to bring God’s law into this world.Thus far, the Vatican has not responded to the Sanhedrin’s letter. “As expected, no.  It would seem that the Pope has chosen to ignore the letter. But a trial will be held anyway, and the result may be very risky for the Pope,” Stein said.“God in heaven is listening and obeys the Sanhedrin because the Torah interpretation is in the hands of the Sanhedrin here in this physical world, not in the heaven in the hands of the angels.”Not just a court for Jews, the rabbis on the Sanhedrin believe they are commanded by God to right injustice wherever it appears, regardless of religion or country.“It has happened in the past that people have ignored the Sanhedrin, which is a mistake, because the Sanhedrin is vital to the proper functioning of the world. ATHENS (Reuters) - Europe moved to re-open funding to Greece's stricken economy on Thursday after the parliament in Athens approved a new bailout program in a fractious vote that left the government without a majority.The European Central Bank increased emergency funding for Greek lenders, although capital controls will have to remain to avoid a bank run when they reopen on Monday.European Union finance ministers also approved 7 billion euros ($7.6 billion) in bridging loans to keep Greece afloat, allowing it to make a bond payment to the ECB next Monday and clear its arrears with the International Monetary Fund.The loans will be finalised on Friday provided Germany's parliament approves a Berlin government request to open talks on a three-year bailout program - Greece's third in the past five years - worth up to 86 billion euros.The twin lifelines were a reward for Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras after he won the backing of parliament in the early hours of Thursday for the tough reform measures demanded by creditors led by Germany.But Tsipras was left weakened by a revolt in his left-wing Syriza party and is expected to reshuffle his cabinet to replace four ministers and deputy ministers who rebelled.Interior Minister Nikos Voutsis said a snap election could be held in September or October, "depending on developments".German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, one of Greece's sternest critics, questioned whether Athens would ever get a third bailout, even after the parliamentary vote. JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says its warplanes have struck the Gaza Strip in response to a rocket launched from the coastal area into southern Israel.The military says the rocket landed early Thursday in an open area near the city of Ashkelon. It says Israeli warplanes retaliated by targeting a "terror infrastructure" in the Palestinian territory.Palestinian media in Gaza reported two Israeli airstrikes, in the north and central Gaza Strip. One targeted a watchtower near the Gaza-Israel border and the other a militant training site.There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the rocket fire. Islamic militants in Gaza have claimed responsibility for sporadic rocket fire into Israel in recent months.During last summer's war between Israel and the Hamas group in Gaza, more than 2,200 Palestinians, and 73 people on the Israeli side, were killed. The war disrupted the lives of millions of people as they coped with rocket attacks and air-raid sirens.

JERUSALEM (AP) — A Canadian-born Israeli woman who joined a Kurdish militia to fight against the Islamic State group said that after a stint in prison, she felt compelled to do something positive with her life and battle against the "genocide" unfolding in Syria and Iraq.

Gill Rosenberg, 31, was among the first female volunteers to fight in the Syrian civil war. She claims to have spent eight months between November and June on the front lines with Kurdish guerrillas in Syria and a Christian militia in Iraq, Dwekh Nawsha, fighting against the Islamic State group. There were false reports in December that she had been captured and possibly killed.Rosenberg, who grew up in White Rock, British Columbia, became an Israeli citizen in 2006 and served in the Israeli military in a search and rescue unit.She later spent four years incarcerated in a U.S prison for her part in a phone scam that bilked elderly people out of millions of dollars. Wearing a reversed baseball cap, sports shirt and large chain, she told reporters Thursday that she had been "young and stupid" and regretted her involvement in the scam.Rosenberg said she became interested in the Syrian conflict and Kurdish cause soon after her release from jail last summer. She said she was angered by images of the Islamic State group's violence. The extremist group has released numerous videos beheading and torturing political opponents, suspected spies, women and religious minorities."I saw everything that was on social media," Rosenberg said. "For me that was a big difference between just a regular war and genocide, and I couldn't stand by and allow that to happen."Rosenberg said she made contact on Facebook with a Kurdish militia group with a large online following. She then traveled to Erbil, Iraq, where the group helped her cross into Syria."I saw they (the Kurdish militia) had female fighters, fighting right alongside the men, treated as equals and I thought, 'Why not me, I know I can help,'" Rosenberg said.While Israel is believed to have covert ties with Iraqi Kurds, Israeli citizens are barred from traveling to Syria or Iraq. Rosenberg traveled on her Canadian passport.Rosenberg said she kept her Israeli citizenship discreet while fighting with the Kurdish militia, many of whose members she said were supportive of Israel.The Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security agency, said it questioned Rosenberg upon her return to Israel. It gave no further details and would not say whether any other Israeli citizens are fighting with Kurdish or Islamic State group forces. Israel has arrested several citizens for alleged links with the Islamic State group.Rosenberg said she left Iraq because changes in the political situation made her work more dangerous and complicated."I felt that I could come back and give more to the effort not by fighting on the front lines, but by either raising awareness and talking to people about it and my experiences," Rosenberg said.Representatives of the YPG, the main Syrian Kurdish militia, and Dwekh Nawsha confirmed that Rosenberg had served with them. A YPG spokesman said she had received ideological and weapons training and joined a fighters unit, though he did not know whether she saw any combat. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing security reasons.Kurdish groups say there are dozens of westerners fighting with them. The International Criminal Court on Thursday requested that chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda reopen a probe into the 2010 so-called Mavi Marmara flotilla incident, in which Turkish activists died in clashes with Israeli forces on a ship attempting to break the Gaza blockade.In May 2013, the Union of Comoros, a small archipelago nation off the coast of Africa, filed a request with the ICC to investigate Israel for war crimes.Eight Turks and one Turkish-American were killed and several other pro-Palestinian activists were wounded when Israeli commandos intercepted the Mavi Marmara ship on May 31, 2010, as it attempted to bust Israel’s naval blockade.The Israel Defense Forces said its soldiers acted in self-defense after they were attacked with lethal weapons. Several soldiers were seriously wounded in the clash.Bensouda said in November there would be no investigation leading to a prosecution, despite a “reasonable basis” to believe that war crimes were committed. Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely has announced plans to include the Old City of Jerusalem in the official itinerary of visiting dignitaries Thursday, Walla news reported Thursday.The Foreign Ministry’s travel plan for foreign diplomats requires a visit to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, but out of deference to countries’ issues with the status of the parts of Jerusalem over the Green Line, visits to the Old City were always without official representation of the Israeli government.Though many foreign dignitaries visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and other Christian sites in the Old City, this is done only with the required security personnel and no government representative.Hotovely, a deputy minister without a dedicated minister above her, will seek to change that protocol. Her new itinerary will include a guided tour of the Old City and the Western Wall, Walla said.Hotovely’s decision came after discussion with Foreign Ministry Director-General Dore Gold. The two determined that, although important, Yad Vashem and the Holocaust are only one aspect of the State of Israel’s identity.This addition may well draw sharp criticism from members of the international community, which does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over East Jerusalem and other parts of the city conquered by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War. Three-quarters of the Israeli public believe the recent signing of the nuclear accord between world powers and Iran will not prevent the Islamic Republic from striving to acquire atomic weapons, and only 10 percent the population say they trust the US to thwart Tehran’s ambitions to produce unconventional arms, according to a poll conducted Wednesday by the Sarid Institute and published Thursday by Channel 10 news.The poll further found that 70% of Israelis oppose the nuclear deal, while a mere 10% support it. Twenty percent of respondents said they had no opinion on the matter. A third of respondents said Israel now had no choice but to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, while 40% opposed military action against the Islamic Republic.Sixty percent think that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should lead a campaign in the US Congress aimed at stopping the agreement from being implemented. Only 20% oppose such a campaign.Channel 10 did not state the number of people who took part in the survey.Under the deal announced Tuesday, Iran’s nuclear program will be scaled back and closely monitored as the US and world powers seek to cut off the Islamic Republic’s ability to develop an atomic weapon.
