UZZIAH; (AZARIAH)

u-zi'-a, oo-zi'-a (`uzziyah (2 Kings 15:13, 30 Hosea 1:1 Amos 1:1 Zechariah 14:5), `uzziyahu (2 Kings 15:32, 34 Isaiah 1:1; Isaiah 6:1; Isaiah 7:1 2 Chronicles 26:1; 27:2); also called `azaryah (2 Kings 14:21; 2 Kings 15:1, 7 1 Chronicles 3:12), 'azaryahu (2 Kings 15:6, 8); Azarias, in Kings, elsewhere Ozias; the significations of the names are similar, the former meaning "my strength is Yah"; the latter, "Yah has helped." It has been thought that the form "Uzziah" may have originated by corruption from the other. The history of the reign is given in 2 Kings 15:1-8 and 2 Chronicles 26):

1. Accession: Uzziah or Azariah, son of Amaziah, and 11th king of Judah, came to the throne at the age of 16. The length of his reign is given as 52 years. The chronological questions raised by this statement are considered below. His accession may here be provisionally dated in 783 B.C. His father Amaziah had met his death by popular violence (2 Kings 14:19), but Uzziah seems to have been the free and glad choice of the people (2 Chronicles 26:1).

2. Foreign Wars:

The unpopularity of his father, owing to a great military disaster, must ever have been present to the mind of Uzziah, and early in his reign he undertook and successfully carried through an expedition against his father's enemies of 20 years before, only extending his operations over a wider area. The Edomites, Philistines and Arabians were successively subdued (these being members of a confederacy which, in an earlier reign, had raided Jerusalem and nearly extirpated the royal family, 2 Chronicles 21:16; 2 Chronicles 22:1); the port of Eloth, at the head of the Red Sea, was restored to Judah, and the city rebuilt (2 Kings 14:22 2 Chronicles 26:2); the walls of certain hostile towns, Gath, Jabneh and Ashdod, were razed to the ground, and the inhabitants of Gur-baal and Maan were reduced to subjection (2 Chronicles 26:6, 7). Even the Ammonites, East of the Jordan, paid tribute to Uzziah, and "his name spread abroad even to the entrance to Egypt; for he waxed exceeding strong" (2 Chronicles 26:8).

3. Home Defenses:

Uzziah next turned his attention to securing the defenses of his capital and country. The walls of Jerusalem were strengthened by towers built at the corner gate, at the valley gate, and at an angle in the wall (see plan of Jerusalem in the writer's Second Temple in Jerusalem); military stations were also formed in Philistia, and in the wilderness of the Negeb, and these were supplied with the necessary cisterns for rain storage (2 Chronicles 26:6, 10). The little realm had now an extension and prosperity to which it had been a stranger since the days of Solomon.

2 CHRONICLES 26:1-23 - UZZIAHS LIFE.
1  Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.
2  He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.
3  Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Jecoliah of Jerusalem.
4  And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah did.
5  And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
6  And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod, and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines.
7  And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims.
8  And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt; for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
9  Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.
10  Also he built towers in the desert, and digged many wells: for he had much cattle, both in the low country, and in the plains: husbandmen also, and vine dressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved husbandry.
11  Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.
12  The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand and six hundred.
13  And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.
14  And Uzziah prepared for them throughout all the host shields, and spears, and helmets, and habergeons, and bows, and slings to cast stones.
15  And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by cunning men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones withal. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.
16  But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.
17  And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of the LORD, that were valiant men:
18  And they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It appertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto the LORD, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honour from the LORD God.
19  Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
20  And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
21  And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.
22  Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.
23  So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

AMOS 1:1-15
1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
2  And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither.
3  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron:
4  But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Benhadad.
5  I will break also the bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven, and him that holdeth the sceptre from the house of Eden:(IRAQ) and the people of Syria shall go into captivity unto Kir,(JORDAN) saith the LORD.
6  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom:(JORDAN)
7  But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour the palaces thereof:
8  And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon, and I will turn mine hand against Ekron: and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord GOD.
9  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
10  But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyrus, which shall devour the palaces thereof.
11  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:
12  But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.
13  Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border:
14  But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour the palaces thereof, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind:
15  And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together, saith the LORD.

THE 3RD AND FINAL WAVE OF WORLD WAR 3-WHEN ALL NATIONS COME AGAINST JERUSALEM-AT THE END OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.IS WHEN THE UZZIAH EVENT OCCURRS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

ZECHARIAH 14:1-21
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2  For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3  Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4  And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
5  And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6  And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7  But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8  And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9  And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
10  All the land shall be turned as a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepresses.
11  And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.
12  And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13  And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
14  And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.
15  And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in these tents, as this plague.
16  And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
17  And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
18  And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
19  This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
20  In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD; and the pots in the LORD’S house shall be like the bowls before the altar.
21  Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holiness unto the LORD of hosts: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and seethe therein: and in that day there shall be no more the Canaanite in the house of the LORD of hosts.

Netanyahu backs ‘general idea’ behind Arab Peace Initiative-In rare press briefing, PM tries to explain his pre- and post-election flip-flop on Palestinian statehood-By Raphael Ahren May 28, 2015, 9:11 pm-the times of israel

While stopping short of fully endorsing the Arab Peace Initiative, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that he welcomed the general idea behind it — a regional agreement between Israel and the moderate Arab states. The Arab Peace Initiative, originally proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002, has many problematic aspects to it, the prime minister said, such as its call for an Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights and the return of Palestinians refuges to Israel. “There are positive aspects and negative aspects to it,” he told Israeli diplomatic correspondents at a rare on-record briefing. “This initiative is 13 years old, and the situation in the Middle East has changed since it was first proposed. But the general idea — to try and reach understandings with leading Arab countries — is a good idea.”In the framework proposed by the initiative, all Arab and Islamic states would establish normal diplomatic relations with Israel after the successful conclusion of the peace process with the Palestinians. The Israeli government has never fully endorsed the plan. But Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that given Iran’s nuclear and regional aspirations, the moderate Arab states and Israel have a common enemy and grounds for increased cooperation.Speaking at the Israel Defense Forces headquarters in Tel Aviv on Thursday, the prime minister also sought to explain the apparent disparity between his pre- and post-elections statements regarding Palestinian statehood.“Before the elections, I was asked in an interview [about the possibility of a Palestinian state coming into being on my watch], and I replied that I don’t estimate it will happen. I don’t think it will happen,” he said. “After the elections, they jumped on it, so I explained my position.”At no time did he rescind his agreement in principle to the creation of a Palestinian state, as long as it was demilitarized and recognized Israel as the Jewish homeland, Netanyahu asserted. “I did not renounce the idea, but I explained what’s the problem with it,” he said. “If the Palestinians change their positions, that it’s a different situation.”(In an interview with the NRG news site a day before the March 17 elections, Netanyahu was asked whether there would be no Palestinian state on his watch, to which he replied, “Indeed.”) Netanyahu on Thursday said there are several core problems that stand in the way of a peace treaty with the Palestinians, such as Jerusalem, which he said “will not be resolved – we’ll set this aside.”However, the most important question was security, he said. “One of the key questions will be who guarantees the security of the territories that Israel is ready to vacate?”Under every scenario in which Israel withdraws from parts of the West Bank, only the IDF will be able to guarantee Israel’s safety, the prime minister said. Israeli troops will have to stay in the West Bank “for an extended period of time,” he said.Asked by The Times of Israel about Friday’s scheduled vote on expelling Israel from FIFA, the governing body of world soccer, Netanyahu said that any effort to harm Israel would eventually hurt the organization. “This would be FIFA’s downfall,” he said.FIFA is currently in the midst of a massive corruption scandal, which has thrown world soccer into chaos. If FIFA were to kick out Israel, he added, other countries would soon follow, and the politicization of the sport would eventually destroy the organization. Netanyahu vowed to fight the motion to expel Israel if it passed. He also spoke about his opposition to the nuclear deal that six world powers are currently negotiating with Iran. “We will fight this agreement. I really think it’s dangerous,” he said.Israel rejects the prospective agreement for three reasons: For one thing, even if Iran honors the agreement, when it elapses after a decade Tehran will be in a position to build as many uranium enrichment centrifuges as it pleases, which “is dangerous to the security of Israel and the entire Middle East,” Netanyahu said.Second, the deal, which the world powers are trying to finalize before a June 30 deadline, would lift sanctions, filling Iran’s coffers with billions of dollars that it would then use to augment its belligerent policies in the region and its support for terrorism worldwide, the prime minister argued. Finally, Netanyahu lamented the deal’s verification mechanism, which in his eyes is sorely insufficient. It will be very difficult to detect if Iran violates the agreement and seeks to break out toward nuclear weapons capability, he said.

Arab Rioters Unveil New Weapon to Fight Security Forces-Security forces called upon to disperse Palestinian riots in the Binyamin region discover a weapon other than rocks and firebombs.By Ben Ariel, Canada-First Publish: 5/29/2015, 8:32 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Security forces tasked with dispersing Palestinian Arab riots are used to being attacked with rocks and firebombs, but on Friday they were surprised by a new weapon used by the rioters.Palestinian Arabs on Friday afternoon began violently rioting in the village of Silwad, not far from Ofra, in the Binyamin area.
Border Policemen and IDF soldiers from the Netzach Yehuda Battalion who began to move toward a concrete shelter meant to protect the fighters as they disperse riots, were surprised to discover right above their heads a viper snake which had been placed there by the rioters in an attempt to harm the security forces.Company Commander Aaron Moyal commented following the incident, "We have witnessed various attempts to harm security forces, but in this case as well the forces’ vigilance prevented harm.”(Arutz Sheva’s North American desk is keeping you updated until the start of Shabbat in New York. Hamas paves road near Gaza border ‘to attack Zionists’-Construction on Palestinian side of fence is ongoing; Israeli officials say work does not currently pose threat-By Times of Israel staff May 30, 2015, 6:25 pm

Hamas is paving a new road near the Israeli border with the northern Gaza Strip which it says will be used to attack Israel in future conflict. In recent days heavy construction equipment has been operating on the Palestinian side of the border, several hundred meters from the security fence. Construction work is taking place across from the Israeli community of Nahal Oz.Former Hamas Interior Minister Fathi Hammad said Saturday the road was intended “to create for ourselves convenient opportunities to attack the Zionist enemy.”Israel security officials told the Ynet News website they were monitoring the road’s construction but said it did not seem to pose a security threat at this point.Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon on Wednesday warned Hamas to rein in any attempts by Gaza terror groups to attack Israel, or “pay a heavy price,” after a rocket launched from Gaza hit near the town of Gan Yavne, outside Ashdod, causing neither casualties nor damage.Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh dismissed the threat, asserting that an escalation of violence would ultimately hurt the Jewish state more than the residents of the Palestinian enclave.Meanwhile, Hamas arrested three members of the Islamic Jihad suspected of involvement in the attack, according to the Haaretz daily.“The enemy’s threats do not scare the Gaza Strip and do not scare the children of Gaza,” Haniyeh said, according to the Walla news site. “Gaza is able to build deterrence. A million people (across the border) panicked over one rocket. I believe they live under terror, rather than (the people of) Gaza.”Israeli Air Force jets responded to Wednesday’s attack by bombing four terror targets in Gaza. The army said the rocket was fired by Islamic Jihad activists due to an internal dispute in the organization. The projectile — a Grad missile — was located shortly after sirens sounded in the Lachish region and Ashdod.“Israel has no intention of ignoring attacks on its citizens,” Ya’alon said in a statement. “We will not abide any threat on the residents of the south. If it isn’t quiet in Israel, the Gaza Strip will pay a heavy price.”There were no reports of casualties from the Israeli bombardments on the Palestinian coastal enclave.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday also addressed the rocket fire, stressing that “Israel holds Hamas responsible for all rocket fired from Gaza.” He added that the “IDF reacted immediately and forcefully to the rocket fire,” and maintained Israel will do “whatever it takes in order to maintain the quiet achieved after Operation Protective Edge.”A source in Gaza said the attack was the result of an internal dispute inside the Islamic Jihad terror group, which has included kidnappings of people in northern Gaza. The source said Islamic Jihad recently appointed a new commander to oversee the northern region of the coastal enclave. The new commander was supposed to start his new position on Tuesday officially, but his predecessor opposed it, sparking clashes between the two commanders’ supporters. The new commander’s men then kidnapped two operatives working under the former commander and, in retaliation, the predecessor’s followers decided to fire rockets at Israel.Escalating rocket fire from Gaza at Israel’s southern communities in 2014 was among the triggers of a bloody, two-month war between Israel and the armed factions in the Strip. During the conflict, Palestinians fired over 4,000 rockets at Israeli towns and cities, some of which reached Tel Aviv and as far north as Haifa’s suburbs.Tuesday’s attack marked the first time a Grad rocket, which can go farther than the smaller Kassams more commonly shot out of Gaza, had been fired at Israel since the summer war.Israel is wary of Gaza terrorist groups rearming after war. The IDF says Hamas has been conducting test launches in recent months in order to increase its rocket-launching capabilities. Some 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the war and tens of thousands more left homeless, according to Palestinian and UN tallies. Israel, which lost 66 soldiers and six civilians in the conflict, said the high civilian toll in Gaza was due to fighters there embedding their military infrastructure in residential areas.AFP and Avi Issacharoff contributed to this report.

Iran rejects site inspections in nuclear deal-As diplomats meet, Tehran’s chief negotiator says interviewing scientists, military base visits ‘completely out of the question’-By AFP, AP and Times of Israel staff May 30, 2015, 3:23 pm

Iran said Saturday it would be “out of the question” for the UN atomic watchdog to question Iranian scientists and inspect military sites as part of a final nuclear agreement with world powers.“Interviews with scientists is completely out of the question and so is inspection of military sites,” senior Iranian negotiator Abbas Araqchi told state television. The head of the UN’s atomic watchdog Yukiya Amano told AFP in an interview this week that if Iran signs a nuclear deal with world powers it will have to accept inspections of its military sites.Araqchi’s comments come as Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his US counterpart John Kerry were holding crucial talks in Geneva to try and hammer out a historic nuclear deal ahead of a June 30 deadline.Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei last week ruled out allowing nuclear inspectors to visit military sites or the questioning of scientists. And Zarif has said the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which Iran has accepted allows “some access” but not inspections of military sites.“Anyway we are continuing our negotiations in the framework of procedures predicted by the Additional Protocol. There isn’t and hasn’t been any agreement yet,” said Araqchi.“One of the questions we are discussing is how the Additional Protocol should be implemented,” he said. The protocol allows for snap inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities, and if required, of its military sites. But Iran insists that such access should be regulated and must be justified.French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Wednesday that France would oppose a nuclear deal with Iran if it did not allow inspections of military sites. An agreement “will not be accepted by France if it is not clear that verifications can be made at all Iranian facilities, including military sites,” Fabius told parliament.Kerry and Zarif arrived simultaneously Saturday on the first floor of a leading Geneva hotel in opposite elevators and greeted each other with smiles and a handshake. They chatted as they walked together along the corridor to the meeting room on the same floor.Asked by a journalist, whether they expected to meet the nuclear negotiating deadline, Zarif smiled and said: “We will try.” Kerry did not respond. After an interim accord hammered out in Geneva in November 2013, Washington and Tehran are grappling with the final details of the ground-breaking agreement that would see Iran curtail its nuclear ambitions in return for a lifting of crippling international sanctions.World powers believe they have secured Iran’s acquiescence to a combination of nuclear restrictions that would fulfill their biggest goal: keeping Iran at least a year away from bomb-making capability for at least a decade. But they are less clear about how they’ll ensure Iran fully adheres to any agreement. The US says access to military sites must be guaranteed or there will be no final deal. A report Friday by the UN nuclear agency declared work essentially stalled on its multiyear probe of Iran’s past activities. The Iranians aren’t fully satisfied, either. The unresolved issues include the pace at which the United States and other countries will provide Iran relief from international sanctions — Tehran’s biggest demand — and how to “snap back” punitive measures into place if the Iranians are caught cheating.President Barack Obama has used the “snapback” mechanism as a main defense of the proposed pact from sharp criticism from Congress and some American allies. And exactly how rapidly the sanctions on Iran’s financial, oil and commercial sectors would come off in the first place lingers as a sore point between Washington and Tehran.Speaking ahead of Kerry’s talks with Zarif, senior State Department officials described Iranian transparency and access, and questions about sanctions, as the toughest matters remaining. They cited “difficult weeks” since the April 2 framework reached in Lausanne, Switzerland, but said diplomats and technical experts are getting back on a “smooth path.”Israel has come out as a fierce opponent of the emerging deal, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warning that the agreement would pave the way for Iran to acquire nuclear arms.“It is still not too late to retract the plan,” he said earlier this month. “We oppose this deal and we are not the only ones. It is both necessary and possible to achieve a better deal because extremists cannot be allowed to achieve their aims.”Arab and largely Sunni Muslim states of the Gulf fear a nuclear deal could be a harbinger of closer US ties with their Shiite arch-foe Iran, a country they also see as fueling conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Iraq.US President Barack Obama tried to reassure America’s Gulf allies at a Camp David summit earlier in the month that engaging with Iran would not come at their expense.

Report: Netanyahu Offered Lapid the Foreign Ministry-Unnamed sources tell Channel 2 that PM Netanyahu offered Yair Lapid to join his coalition and become Foreign Minister.By Elad Benari-First Publish: 5/29/2015, 3:15 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has openly declared that he intends to work to expand his 61-member government, recently offered Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid to join the coalition, Channel 2 News reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources in the political system.Netanyahu and Lapid met on Monday night for the first time since the elections in March but, according to the sources, the offer to Lapid was extended several days before the meeting. These sources told Channel 2 News that two of Netanyahu’s associates approached a senior member of Yesh Atid and made the offer, according to which Lapid would be appointed as Foreign Minister and his party would receive three ministerial portfolios. Also, according to the same sources, Netanyahu's associates offered Yesh Atid the chairmanship of two Knesset committees if it joins the coalition. Lapid's answer came immediately and he outright rejected the Likud’s proposal, according to Channel 2.Responding to the report, sources close to Netanyahu said, “This never happened”. Lapid has remained particularly vocal against the Netanyahu government since the March elections, threatening legal action over the expansion of the Cabinet and issuing a no-confidence motion shortly after the government was formed. In recent weeks there have also been reports that Netanyahu was planning to add Zionist Union chairman Yitzhak Herzog to the coalition and is saving the Foreign Ministry for him.Herzog has continuously denied the reports. In addition, he and other members of his party condemned Netanyahu’s new coalition, vowing to work to make sure it is short-lived.

Anti-Islam demonstration under way outside Phoenix mosque-Reuters-MAY 30,15-YAHOONEWS

Crowds gather for anti-Islam demonstration outside Phoenix mosque-Reuters By Paul Ingram-MAY 30,15-YAHOONEWS

PHOENIX (Reuters) - More than 200 protesters, some armed, berated Islam and its Prophet Mohammed outside an Arizona mosque on Friday in a provocative protest that was denounced by counterprotesters shouting "Go home, Nazis," weeks after an anti-Muslim event in Texas came under attack by two gunmen.
The anti-Muslim event outside the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix was organized by an Iraq war veteran who posted photos of himself online wearing a T-shirt with a crude slogan denigrating Islam and waving the U.S. flag.As the event got under way, demonstrators on both sides screamed obscenities at each other as police in riot gear swiftly separated the two groups, each with about 250 people, using police tape and barricades."This is in response to the recent attack in Texas," organizer Jon Ritzheimer wrote on his Facebook page announcing the event at a mosque targeted in part because the two Texas gunmen had worshipped there.More than 900 people responded on the event's Facebook page that they would attend, and police expanded their presence in the evening in anticipation of growing crowds. Officers with riot helmets and gas masks formed a cordon for several blocks.Among the anti-Islam protesters, some of whom called Islam a "religion of murderers," more than a dozen men in military clothing carried semi-automatic weapons. Others waved copies of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad drawn at the Texas event.By late Friday night, virtually all the protesters and police had left the area with no reports of violent flare-ups or arrests.Depictions of Mohammad, which many Muslims view as blasphemous, have been a flashpoint for violence in Europe and the United States in recent months where those displaying or creating such images have been targeted by militants.Anti-Muslim groups have been active in the United States, buying ads and staging demonstrations characterizing Islam as violent, often citing the murderous brutality of Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria.

'LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR'

The Phoenix mosque targeted on Friday has condemned such violence and held a series of sermons at Friday prayers last year by an imam who criticized militant Islamist groups such as Islamic State, al Qaeda and Nigeria's Boko Haram. The president of the center had urged worshippers not to engage with the demonstrators."We should remind ourselves that we do not match wrongness with wrongness, but with grace and mercy and goodness," Usama Shami told worshippers during Friday prayers. While some counter-protesters outside the mosque responded to the anti-Islam protest with obscenities, others followed his advice and chanted "Love your neighbor."Todd Green, a religion professor at Luther College in Iowa who studies Islamophobia, said that the brutal acts committed by Islamic State and other militant groups have colored many Americans' impressions of Muslims."Almost two-thirds of Americans don't know a Muslim," Green said. "What they know is ISIS, al Qaeda, and Charlie Hebdo," referencing the January attack on the Paris office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that left 12 people dead over anger at the magazine's cartoons featuring the Prophet. In a similar incident, a pair of gunmen on May 3 opened fire near Dallas outside an exhibit of cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammad and were shot dead by police.Leaders of the Phoenix Muslim community confirmed both gunmen had attended the mosque targeted in Friday's demonstration.U.S. officials are investigating claims that the Texas gunmen had ties to the Islamic State, but said they had not established a firm connection.

'EPIDEMIC OF ANTI-ISLAMIC SENTIMENT'

The Department of Homeland Security spoke with state and local law enforcement and monitored the situation in Phoenix, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.Ritzheimer, the main organizer of the demonstration, said the point was "to expose the true colors of Islam.""True Islam is terrorism. Yes, the ones that are out committing these atrocities and stuff, they are following the book as it's written," Ritzheimer told CNN.Ritzheimer was a staff sergeant in the Marine Reserve and was deployed to Iraq twice, in 2005 and 2008, the Marine Corps said.Anti-Islam activist Pamela Geller, who organized the Texas event, said she was not involved in the Phoenix demonstration. The mosque is a former church near the city's international airport that can hold some 600 worshippers. The Phoenix area is home to tens of thousands of Muslims.Friday's event is part of "an epidemic of anti-Islamic sentiment" that goes beyond protesting against extremism, said Imraan Siddiqi of the Arizona chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations."Don't mistake that, they're not saying they want to rid America of radical Islam, they are saying they want to rid America of Islam," Siddiqi said.(Writing and additional reporting by Alistair Bell, Sharon Bernstein and Curtis Skinner; Additional reporting by Scott Malone in Boston, and Alex Dobuzinskis and Dan Whitcomb in Los Angeles; Editing by Cynthia Johnston, Lisa Shumaker and Nick Macfie)

Christian beheads jihadist in Syria revenge killing: monitor-AFP-MAY 30,15-YAHOONEWS

Beirut (AFP) - A Syrian Christian fighter has beheaded an Islamic State group (IS) militant to avenge people "executed" by the jihadists in northeastern Syria, a monitor said on Friday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the incident took place on Thursday in Hasakeh province, where IS holds large areas of the countryside.According to the monitor, the Christian fighter, a member of the minority Assyrian community, found the jihadist in the local village of Tal Shamiram."He took him prisoner and when he found out he was a member of IS, the Assyrian fighter beheaded him in revenge for abuses committed by the group in the region," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said. The Observatory is based in Britain but has covered the Syrian conflict since it broke out four years ago thanks to a network of sources inside the country. The Christian was fighting in the ranks of Kurdish forces who earlier this month drove IS out of more than a dozen Assyrian villages the jihadists had captured in Hasakeh.IS has carried out a wave of abuses in areas it controls in both Syria and Iraq, including public beheadings, mass executions, enslavement and rape.

4 more bodies found after Texas flooding-Associated Press By ALLEN REED-MAY 29,15-YAHOONEWS

DALLAS (AP) — Authorities said Friday they reclaimed four more bodies from Texas waters, adding to the growing death toll inflicted by record-setting storms that continue to submerge highways and flood homes.
At least 28 people have been killed nationwide in the storms, 24 in Texas. At least 11 are missing in Texas.More than 7 inches fell overnight from a line of thunderstorms that stalled over Dallas, which is in its wettest month ever recorded at 16.07 inches. The National Weather Service reports rainfall records have been crushed across the Lone Star state — from Corpus Christi along the Gulf of Mexico to Gainesville near the Oklahoma border. Even Amarillo in the dusty Texas Panhandle is in its second wettest month on record, said Meteorologist Dennis Cain from Fort Worth. The downpour has inundated a state that until recently was suffering a severe drought. Swelled rivers and lakes may not recede to normal levels until July.
"In a lot of places we've exceeded the wettest year ever," Cain said. "You're talking maybe a 150 or 200 year event. It is quite astounding."The greater Dallas area was one of the hardest hit on Friday. Firefighters in the suburb of Mesquite recovered the body of a man who drowned in his truck after it was swept into a culvert. Houston-area authorities found the bodies of two men who had been reported missing. The body of 87-year-old Jack Alter, who was swept away when a boat attempting to rescue him from a bayou overturned, was found in the Houston Ship Channel. The search for a missing 51-year-old man was called off Friday after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found a body on a southeast Texas beach that matched his description. The unidentified man and two others, who later escaped, had been fishing in the Brazos River Thursday when they were caught in the currents.First responders said the body of an unidentified person was pulled near the banks of the Blanco River late Thursday.A storm system last weekend that prompted the initial flooding also killed 14 people in the northern Mexico when a twister hit the border town of Ciudad Acuna. The rain also seeped into homes Friday and stranded hundreds of drivers, many of whom lingered along highways that were nearly gridlocked from the high water and abandoned vehicles.Fire rescue crews responded to hundreds of calls that included trapped vehicles and accidents, authorities said.Exacerbating the problem for first-responders are people who have been going around barricades to take pictures of the floodwaters, said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. He said those people are endangering themselves and stretching thin the first responders' resources."Floodwaters are never safe to play around, take a picture around, walk around," Jenkins said. "We don't need any more loss of life."The Colorado River in Wharton and the Brazos and San Jacinto rivers near Houston were the main focus of concern as floodwaters moved from North and Central Texas downstream toward the Gulf of Mexico. The mayor of Wharton, a city about 60 miles southwest of Houston, ordered the evacuation of homes along the Colorado River, which is expected to crest in the area at just over 43 feet on Saturday morning.Floodwater was already creeping into neighborhoods in the suburban Houston city of Kingwood near the swollen San Jacinto River, where residents were keeping a close eye on water levels."Everybody's worried about it," James Simms said from his second-story balcony, looking down at a flood that had reached his garage. "Those people who are going to leave are already gone. There's others like us who are going to wait until it's mandatory."Teams continued to search through debris piles along rivers. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the Blanco River tore through Wimberley, a small tourist town between San Antonio and Austin. County authorities on Friday identified the body of a 6-year-old boy who was killed when waters overflowed his family's cabin.First responders with Texas A&M's Texas Task Force One from dawn until dusk combed a 25 mile area along the river since Sunday. Will Welch, communications manager for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, said responders have been using search dogs to comb through tightly compacted debris piles constructed of Cypress trees, cars and bits of homes."Seeing a 10-foot in diameter tree stuck in the top of another that is 15 feet in diameter — It looks like the most powerful tornado you can imagine (went down) either side of the riverbank."Welch said responders have been taking the search acre by acre, combing through a precarious soup of snakes, bacteria, herbicides, insecticides and fuel and other hazards intertwined with the other debris."It's like the front end of a bulldozer just scoured the river basin and just wiped out everything in its path," Welch said.___Associated Press journalists Jamie Stengle Dallas; Juan A. 27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (ISRAELS SAKE) those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

REVELATION 16:7-9
7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

Heat wave eases in India after killing nearly 2,000 people-Associated Press By OMER FAROOQ-MAY 30,15-YAHOONEWS

HYDERABAD, India (AP) — Showers and thunderstorms in parts of southern India on Saturday helped eased a weekslong summer heat wave that has claimed nearly 2,000 lives. The intense heat, however, was expected to continue in some areas of worst-hit Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states for another 24 hours, said Y.K. Reddy, an Indian Meteorological Department director.Heat-related conditions, including dehydration and heat stroke, have killed at least 1,490 people in Andhra Pradesh and 489 in Telangana since mid-April, according to state officials.Daytime temperatures hovered between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius (104 and 113 degrees Fahrenheit) in the two states on Saturday, after soaring to as high as 48 C (118 F) earlier in the week, the meteorological department said.A strong thunderstorm brought some relief from the stifling heat to Anantapur, a town in Andhra Pradesh, though the storm uprooted trees and electricity poles and cut power in some areas.People also heaved sighs of relief in the Telangana state capital of Hyderabad and Telangana's Mehubnagar district, which recorded 1 centimeter (.39 inch) of rain. However, at least four districts — Guntur, Krishna and East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, and Nalgonda in Telangana — were still in the grip of the heat wave, the meteorological department said, adding that they would likely get some relief in the next 24 hours due to rain in nearby areas.Cooling monsoon rains are expected next week in southern India before gradually advancing north. The monsoon season will last until the end of September.Forecasting service AccuWeather warned Friday of prolonged drought conditions in India, with the monsoon likely to be disrupted by a more active typhoon season over the Pacific.

Magnitude 8.5 quake strikes off eastern Japan, no tsunami danger or immediate damage-Reuters-MAY 30,15-YAHOONEWS

TOKYO (Reuters) - A magnitude 8.5 earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan on Saturday, shaking buildings in Tokyo, but there was no danger of a tsunami and no immediate reports of damage since the quake was extremely deep. There were no reports of further irregularities at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant, damaged four years ago in a massive 9.0 magnitude quake, or any other nuclear facilities. The Shinkansen high speed train line had briefly stopped between Tokyo and Osaka due a power outage. The quake, centered off the Ogasawara islands south of Tokyo, occurred at a depth of 590 km and, unusually, was felt throughout much of Japan, but there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, though the Tokyo Fire Department had received calls of people suffering injuries through falls, NHK national television said.In Chiba, just east of Tokyo, loudspeaker broadcasts called on people to remain calm, but there were no reports of damage."Since it was magnitude 8.5 this was a very big quake, but fortunately it was very deep at 590 km," Naoki Hirata, an earthquake expert at the University of Tokyo's Earthquake Research Centre, told NHK."But the shaking was felt over a broad area... Fortunately, because it was deep, there is little danger of a tsunami."Tokyo Electric Power Co said there were no abnormalities at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant following the quake. On March 11, 2011, a massive 9.0 magnitude quake touched off a tsunami that left nearly 20,000 people dead and nuclear meltdowns at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant.(Reporting by Edmund Klamann, Kiyoshi Takenaka, Linda Sieg, Mari Saito and Joseph Radford, writing by Elaine Lies; Editing by Pravin Char and Rosalind Russell)

Powerful quake strikes off Japan; no tsunami warning-Associated Press By MARI YAMAGUCHI-MAY 30,15-TAHOONEWS

TOKYO (AP) — A powerful and extremely deep earthquake struck near remote Japanese islands and shook most of the country Saturday evening, but officials said there was no threat of a tsunami, and no injuries or damage were immediately reported. The magnitude-8.5 offshore quake struck off the Ogasawara islands at a depth of 590 kilometers (370 miles), Japan's Meteorological Agency said. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 7.8 and a depth of 678 kilometers (421 miles). The temblor was powerful enough to rattle most of Japan, from the southern islands of Okinawa to Hokkaido in the north. Buildings swayed in Tokyo — about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of the Ogasawara islands — and disrupted some train services in the city. About 400 houses in Saitama prefecture, just north of Tokyo, were without power, according to the Tokyo Electric Power Co.At Tokyo's Roppongi Hills shopping and business complex, elevators stopped soon after the earthquake struck the area.Yoshiyuki Sasamoto, a municipal official on Chichijima island, which is part of the Ogasawara island group, said he initially felt a mild tremor, but when he thought it was over "there was a violent shaking and I couldn't even stand on my feet."At an inn on the Ogasawara island of Hahajima, furniture shook violently, although nothing fell or broke, innkeeper Michiko Orita told public broadcaster NHK. "It was so frightening. The entire house shook and a Buddhist altar violently swayed like I have never experienced before," she said, adding that all her guests were safe.NHK said there were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake. The meteorological agency did not issue a tsunami warning because the quake struck so far beneath the earth's surface. Deep offshore earthquakes usually do not cause tsunamis, and generally cause less damage than shallow ones.In March 2011, a magnitude-9.0 earthquake rocked northeastern Japan, triggering a tsunami that killed more than 18,500 people and ravaged much of the northern Pacific coast. The depth of that quake was just 24 kilometers (15 miles), according to the meteorological agency.

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Texas seeks presidential disaster declaration after storms kill 21-Reuters By Lisa Maria Garza and Jim Forsyth-may 29,15-yahoonews

DALLAS (Reuters) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott sought a presidential disaster declaration on Friday after severe weather this week killed at least 21 people, caused massive flooding and prompted evacuations.
Storms that battered North Texas on Thursday and Friday added more runoff to swollen rivers and prompted hundreds of calls for help in Dallas, where some areas saw up to seven inches (17.8 cm) of rain.
"Communities across the State of Texas have experienced devastating destruction, injury and – most tragically – loss of life due to the major and (an) unceasing severe weather system that has been impacting our state for weeks," said Abbott, who has declared 70 counties disaster areas. The presidential declaration would free up federal funds to help rebuild. No estimate has been given for the damage in Texas, which has a $1.4 trillion a year economy and is the biggest domestic energy provider.Near Dallas on Friday, thousands of cars were trapped for about six hours on a suburban freeway blocked by floodwaters. The Red Cross distributed Girl Scout cookies and water to stranded motorists."I feel like I am on an island and nobody cares," Vanessa Paterson, who was on the highway with her 6-month-old son, told TV station WFAA.The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch from Central Texas into Missouri, with the additional rain tipping off a new round of flooding.Dallas officials advised people to go home early and stay off streets that have seen more water than they can handle."This would be a great night to stay home, watch a movie and cook some popcorn," Dallas Police Deputy Chief Scott Walton told a news conference. The mayor of Wharton, about 60 miles (100 km) southwest of Houston, issued a mandatory evacuation order for about 900 people living near the Colorado River, which began flooding into the city on Thursday and has been rising steadily since.Hundreds of Texans are set to spend the night in shelters after this week's floods turned streets into rivers, ripped homes off their foundations and swept over thousands of vehicles. The rushing water trapped people in cars and houses. One Dallas-area police officer had to be plucked to safety by a helicopter. The rainfall for May across the state has already set a new record and more storms were forecast for Texas over the weekend. The Brazos River, which began overflowing its banks on Wednesday in Parker County about 30 miles (50 km) west of Fort Worth, is expected to see another surge due to recent rains."This situation will get worse before it gets better," said Parker County Emergency Management Coordinator George Teague.(Writing by Jon Herskovitz in Austin, Texas; Reporting by Lisa Maria Garza in Dallas and Jim Forsyth in San Antonio; Additional reporting by Marice Richter in Dallas and Heide Brandes in Oklahoma City; Editing by Lisa Lambert, Doina Chiacu and Sandra Maler)

EARTH DESTROYED WITH THE EARTH IN NOAHS DAY(BECAUSE OF SIN,VIOLENCE AND GODLESS PEOPLE)

GENESIS 6:11-13
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.(WORLD TERRORISM,MURDERS)(HAMAS IN HEBREW IS VIOLENCE)
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence (TERRORISM)(HAMAS) through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

HOSEA 4:1-3
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

DEUTORONOMY 28:22-24
22  The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.
23  And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.
24  The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

Japan evacuates island after volcano erupts-AFP By Kyoko Hasegawa-may 29,15-yahoonews

Tokyo (AFP) - A violent volcanic eruption in Japan forced the evacuation of an island on Friday, as a huge column of ash was shot high into the sky.Footage by the Japan Meteorological Agency captured the moment the plume rocketed from Mount Shindake on the far southern island of Kuchinoerabu. The black cloud reached as high as 9,000 metres (29,500 feet), the agency said, and was accompanied by a five-minute volcanic quake.Television pictures showed the after-effects of the pyroclastic flow, which had cascaded down the mountainside towards one of the island's harbours.Grey ash blanketed the breakwaters and discoloured the sea.The volcano continued to belch steam throughout the day as a dusting of white ash settled on mountain peaks, giving them a winter-like appearance. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said it had accounted for all of the nearly 140 inhabitants, with one elderly man having suffered a minor facial injury and another feeling nauseous.Residents were evacuated to a nearby island aboard coastguard boats and a ferry, officials said.A woman who was taken by helicopter told reporters the eruption had been frighteningly powerful."The sky turned completely dark and there was a thunderous roar and then I heard a boom," she said.Community leader Nobuaki Hayashi told public broadcaster NHK how the eruption, which came around 10:00 am (0100 GMT) had blocked out the morning light.

- More eruptions possible -

"Dark smoke rose quite high, I couldn't tell how high. But it became dark outside," he told the network. The volcano has been under observation since an eruption last year, with a two-kilometre (one-mile) exclusion zone in force, but volcanologists on Friday rapidly raised the alert level to five -- the highest on the scale -- triggering the evacuation order."A volcanic eruption occurred at Shindake at 9:59 am. Along with this eruption, a pyroclastic flow reached the coastline" of the island, the weather agency said.Sadayuki Kitagawa, director of the volcanology division at the agency, warned the danger was not over."It's possible that eruptions of a similar scale could happen in the future. We are warning residents about pyroclastic flows, and asking people to obey evacuation instructions," he told a briefing.Japan sits at the junction of several of the Earth's tectonic plates and the country is dotted with active volcanoes.Any eruption is big news, and sends the nation's emergency response organs into a flurry of activity.Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he had mobilised "all functions of government" to ensure the safety of residents, including coastguard boats and military helicopters."I ordered authorities to swiftly gather information on damage, ensure local residents' safety through evacuations, and boost observation of the volcano," he told reporters.Kagoshima prefecture, in which Kuchinoerabu sits, said it had requested the military send troops to help with disaster relief.Major carriers Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways said there had been no immediate impact on flights.Eruptions at Shindake have been recorded for nearly two centuries, with the last significant period of activity from 1966 to 1980.Volcano expert Kazuhiro Ishihara, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, told NHK that evacuation managers would be taking account of cinders and wind direction in deciding how to proceed."The eruption could continue for some time given the mountain's history," he said.

OZONE DEPLETION JUDGEMENT ON THE EARTH DUE TO SIN

ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold,(7X OR 7-DEGREES HOTTER) as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people,(ISRAEL) and healeth the stroke of their wound.

Indian city offers way to beat the heat as 1,786 killed in heat wave-Reuters By Nita Bhalla-may 29,15-yahoonews

NEW DELHI (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Hundreds of deaths caused by an extreme heat wave in India could have been prevented if authorities followed the example set by Ahmedabad which introduced measures such as cooling spaces to protect citizens from the rising mercury, climate experts said.Officials say 1,786 people have died in northern and southern India over the past week, with temperatures over 46 Celsius (114 Fahrenheit) baking states such as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well as the capital New Delhi.Doctors' leave has been canceled to help cope with the sick flooding into hospitals and clinics, complaining of headaches, dizziness and fever. Most of the deaths have been of construction workers, homeless people and the elderly. But with the threat of more frequent heat waves as a result of climate change, experts say India must recognize rising temperatures as a natural disaster, just like floods or earthquakes, and have a strategy to protect vulnerable people."The spiking temperatures underscore the need for local heat adaptation plans and early warning systems to reduce the health effects of heat stress and increase resilience in local communities to rising temperatures," said Anjali Jaiswal from the U.S.-based Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)."Ahmedabad's Heat Action Plan - South Asia's first early warning system against extreme heat waves - is tailored to help protect the city's vulnerable communities during these disasters."After a heat wave hit Ahmedabad, a western city of 5.5 million people, in May 2010, killing over 1,300 people, local authorities mapped areas with "high-risk" populations including slums, as part of an action plan. They also built up public awareness of the risks of high temperatures and set up "cooling spaces" in temples, public buildings and malls in the sizzling summer months.

"URBAN HEAT ISLANDS"

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts rising global temperatures could cause an increase of up to 82 cm (32 inches) in sea levels by the late 21st century due to melting ice and the expansion of warming water, threatening coastal cities from Shanghai to San Francisco.More frequent and intense extreme weather events are also expected, putting towns and cities in disaster-prone countries like India at greater risk. Many of India's 1.2 billion people live in areas vulnerable to floods, cyclones and droughts. While May and June are India's hottest months - with temperatures regularly pushing above 40 Celsius - meteorologists say the number of days when temperatures approach 45 Celsius has increased in the past 15 years.Temperatures on Wednesday hit 47 Celsius - six degrees above normal - in Khammam district in Telangana state where 440 people have died of sunstroke. In the neighboring state of Odisha, streets were empty, construction sites abandoned and offices half-empty during peak afternoon hours, as the mercury hit 46.5 Celsius in some parts."The situation is horrible. It is so bad that we are not able to stay at home nor can we go out," said Debaria Bagh, 35, a cycle rickshaw driver in Titilagarh town in Odisha.Cities like New Delhi and Ahmedabad were hardest hit because of the heat reflected off paved surfaces and a lack of trees.Compared to 2010, heat waves have been shorter but killed more people, said Arjuna Srinidhi, climate change program manager at the Centre for Science and the Environment.Disaster management officials in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh said they alert the public before a heat wave and issue advice, but admit more can be done to enable cities to cope."Since heat waves affect a large population, you cannot move them out. I personally feel that we need to find a better way to deal with a situation like this," said a disaster official from Andhra Pradesh state, which has recorded 1,020 deaths.

WATER STATIONS, COOLING SPACES

In Ahmedabad, authorities have focused on public awareness as the first step in preventing heat-related deaths. This includes telling people how to protect themselves via campaigns on television, radio and newspapers, as well as through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp.The basic information includes not venturing out in the afternoon, drinking lots of water and what to do if people feel dizzy or feverish. High temperatures can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and worsen chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The government also alerts residents to forecasts of very high temperatures through hospitals, community groups, media outlets and government agencies.Health workers have also been trained to recognize the symptoms of heat stress and ensure emergency rooms and ambulances are stocked with ice packs."Similar heat adaptation plans could be adopted throughout India to combat the dangerous impacts of these scorching temperatures as other Indian cities and states express interest in replicating Ahmedabad's ground-breaking program," said Jaiswal of the NRDC."These efforts take on greater urgency as climate change increases the intensity and frequency of heat waves across the country and around the globe."(Reporting by Nita Bhalla, Additional reporting by Jatindra Dash in BHUBANESHWAR. End to prayer formalized by council-By Denis Langlois, Sun Times, Owen Sound-Tuesday, May 26, 2015 9:39:56 EDT AM

City council has officially closed the book on the issue of praying at its meetings. It amended the city’s procedural rules Monday evening to remove both faith blessings and a moment of silent reflection from its agendas. This latest round of discussion on eliminating prayer from meetings began last month after the Supreme Court of Canada ruled the practice by a municipal council in Quebec of praying during meetings infringed on a person’s freedom of conscience and religion as guaranteed by Quebec’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Council had voted in 2011 to stop reciting the Lord’s Prayer at the start of its meetings. It approved a new practice of inviting representatives of local churches to take a turn at leading them in a “faith blessing.” When no one was available, council participated in a moment of silent reflection. However, in light of the Supreme Court decision and after receiving legal advice of its own, council accepted a staff recommendation last month to no longer welcome prayers or invite people to pause to reflect.

Haswell says she won't return to city politics-By Denis Langlois, Sun Times, Owen Sound-Thursday, November 27, 2014 2:41:20 EST PM

Outgoing Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell says she will not attempt to return to municipal politics in the future.“Culminating the end of my career with one term as mayor, I think it’s time to move along,” she said in an interview Thursday, four days before her tenure comes to a close.Mayor-elect Ian Boddy is scheduled to be sworn-in as head of council at an inaugural city council meeting Monday night at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound.Deputy-mayor Arlene Wright, incumbent councillors Peter Lemon and Jim McManaman and newcomers Richard Thomas, Travis Dodd, Scott Greig, Brian O’Leary and Marion Koepke will also be sworn in.Haswell, who has been on Owen Sound council for 17 years, said while municipal politics are not in her future, she will not shut the door on seeking or accepting a position at the provincial or federal level.
For now, though, her plan is to return to running her downtown Owen Sound business, The Rocking Horse toy store which she co-owns with her partner Dianne Mattice, and “pursue other opportunities” she said she cannot yet disclose.“After Christmas, there’s a few things that I’m looking at. I’m still looking to serve the community in other capacities,” she said, adding she has accepted a position on the board of directors at Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce.Haswell finished in third place in a four-person race for mayor Oct. 27. She secured 14% of votes, while Boddy garnered 47% and former mayor Ruth Lovell Stanners received 34%.“I was one of the 50% of the mayors in Ontario who were turfed. It was a big sweep; a mood for change. Often that’s what happens in politics. You can do lots of very very positive things, good work, and when you’re the mayor you become the face of all in the community. I think it reflects on the outcome of the election as well as flavours you for going forward,” she said.Haswell said she has no regrets from her time in municipal politics.I’ll really miss the work. I’ll miss the work a lot. I really enjoyed being part of the decision-making. I’m really proud of all the decisions I was able to be a part of. Many, many, many good decisions were made over the 17 years and particularly over the last term of council.”ut she said the last election was “really hard on my family. It took a lot out of us. And I just, quite frankly, don’t want to put my family through that again on a municipal level.”She said a lot of promises were made by other candidates during the election campaign and she hopes the community will hold the new council accountable.“I think the expectations are quite high,” she said.“There’s an expectation that taxes are going down and services are going to increase and there’s going to be more jobs. I haven’t heard a plan yet. Nobody’s laid out a plan.”

Former Ontario deputy minister sentenced to three years for child porn-The Canadian PressBy Paola Loriggio, The Canadian Press | MAY 29,15-YAHOONEWS

TORONTO - A former Ontario deputy education minister who pleaded guilty to three child pornography-related charges was sentenced Friday to three years in prison.Benjamin Levin, a respected scholar with a close, loving family, "appeared to have it all," Judge Heather McArthur said in her decision."Mr. Levin also had a hidden dark side. Unbeknownst to his friends, colleagues and family, he had become deeply immersed in a deviant and depraved online world."Levin, 63, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, making child pornography — a charge stemming from an explicit story he wrote — and counselling the indictable offence of sexual assault. He was originally charged with seven child porn-related offences.Levin claimed online to have sexually abused his own daughters, but "there is no evidence that he ever had sexual contact with a child," McArthur said. She noted that Levin, who kept his head bowed for much of the sentencing, appeared "genuinely remorseful" and was deemed to have low risk of reoffending by the doctor who conducted his psychiatric assessment.Court has heard Levin used to frequent an online website with numerous chat rooms for the discussion of sexual activities.Among the people he chatted with were an undercover officer in Toronto, one in London, Ont., and one in New Zealand — all posing as women interested in sexual activities with children. In one case, he encouraged an undercover officer posing as a mother to sexually abuse her eight-year-old daughter. At no point did he clarify that it was purely a fantasy, or take steps to find out whether any real abuse was occurring, McArthur said."Mr. Levin did nothing to endure that a potentially real, innocent eight-year-old girl was unharmed. To the contrary, Mr. Levin continued to up the ante on the sexual abuse he suggested be perpetrated on the child," she said.Levin was arrested in July 2013 when a search warrant was executed at his home. He was a university professor at the time. His lawyer had sought a sentence of two years in a penitentiary, while the Crown sought up to three years and eight months behind bars.
