http://israndjer.blogspot.ca/2014/09/justin-trudeau-lunatic-liberal-dreamer.htmlJustin Trudeau says abortion rights trump MPs' freedom to vote their conscience-CBC – SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSWomen’s reproductive rights trump the freedom of Liberal members of parliament to vote their conscience on abortion, Justin Trudeau said, adding that it’s time that his party “actually defended rights.”“I have had a lot of Liberals come up to me and say, 'I don’t quite understand, isn’t the Liberal party about freedom and about defending people’s rights?'" Trudeau said in an interview with CBC’s The Sunday Edition with Michael Enright.“Absolutely it is. And the rights that women have fought for over decades to be in control of their own bodies and to control their own reproductive health is not a right I’m going to brush aside to defend the freedom of speech or the freedom to vote a particular way for an MP."Trudeau has said that any Liberal MP, regardless of their personal beliefs, would have to vote against any proposed legislation that could limit a woman’s right to an abortion.“If they vote in favour of restricting women's access to abortion, that’s taking away their rights. And that is something that we will not accept in the Liberal party. We are the party of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and that’s a serious, serious position that Liberals have to defend."It’s time the Liberal party actually defended rights,” he said.Asked if his pro-choice policy would essentially kiss off the Catholic vote, Trudeau said that he too is Catholic, and that lots of Catholics were upset when previous Liberal governments legalized divorce and decriminalized homosexuality.
NEED TO 'VANQUISH' ISIS
The Liberal leader spoke on a wide range of subjects. Trudeau, who came under fire by Conservatives last year for suggesting the "root causes" of the Boston Marathon bombings need to be examined, was asked if that applies to ISIS and whether we need to understand their jihadist thinking. "That's not what root causes is all about. It's not about trying to understand the philosophy and the theology behind ISIS," he said. "These are extremists who are out to gain power, political power, and are using religion as a tool for that. What we need to do against enemy armies is not try and debate them, it's try and vanquish them to protect civilians."
On corporate tax cuts, Trudeau said rates shouldn't be raised and need to stay competitive to grow the economy."The problem is, in order to grow the economy, you have to have a plan that draws in investment, that actually allows the economy to flourish and grow. And what happens when you raise corporate taxes that are right now at a competitive level around the world, is you're turning away investment that we need to grow the economy," he said. Increasing the tax rate will only serve to drive money even further offshore, Trudeau said. "There are some real challenges we have to face but I know we don't face them by putting forward facile answers of 'we're going to force corporations to pay more taxes' because that sounds popular but it doesn't work."
Toronto mayor Rob Ford says God 'wants him somewhere else'-Reuters – SEPT 13,14-YAHOONEWSToronto (Reuters) - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, who this week dropped out of the city's mayoral race only to be replaced by his elder brother, on Saturday said in a newspaper interview that the early diagnosis from an abdominal tumour was "not good."Ford, a larger-than-life figure who made international headlines with his admission that he smoked crack cocaine while in office, was hospitalized earlier in the week after having unbearable abdominal pains. In a dramatic turn of events, Ford dropped his bid for re-election minutes ahead of a Friday deadline, replaced by his brother and campaign manager Doug Ford. The mayor will instead run for a safe city council seat.In an interview on Saturday in the Toronto Sun newspaper, Ford said he was "shocked" and "devastated," and had to quit the race to focus on his health."It's not good," Ford was quoted as saying about his preliminary diagnosis. "I guess the good Lord wants me somewhere else."The 45-year- old mayor remains in hospital where he is undergoing a battery of tests, with biopsy results expected next week. He also said he is preparing for surgery and treatment that may keep him bedridden for weeks. The Fords' politician father, Doug Ford Sr., died of colon cancer less than three months after being diagnosed in 2006.In 2009, doctors removed a tumour from Rob Ford's appendix, and the then-city councilor returned to work in good health. In May and June, the mayor underwent rehab for drug and alcohol abuse. He emerged noticeably thinner though still obese. Ford said he regretted not getting treatment "years ago" to treat his alcohol addiction.(Reporting by Amran Abocar, editing by G Crosse)
Text of letter from academics calling for halt to CRA political-activity audits-The Canadian Press By CP-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSOTTAWA - Text of an open letter sent by more than 400 academics to Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay calling for a halt to political-activity tax audits of think-tanks:Dear Minister Findlay,Recently, we were informed through reports in a number of newspapers that the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has undertaken an audit of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) on the grounds that it allegedly engages in politically partisan, biased and one-sided research activity. While we understand the need to prevent abuses of the charitable status, we are rather perplexed at CRA’s decision to perform the audit on this basis. The CCPA is an internationally-recognized and respected research centre, built on a solid tradition of critical analysis. Indeed, the CCPA plays a vital role by supplying much needed reflection on a number of policies, which it has always done in a fair and unbiased way, and which respects the fundamental tools of sound research. They have produced much-needed research on many disparate topics, such as on income and wealth distribution, the hidden government support of the Canadian banking sector during the financial crisis, and an analysis of alternative federal fiscal policy implementation annually. Since these various research studies are academically all of very high quality, you can therefore imagine how this news took us by surprise.By undertaking this audit, we feel that CRA fails to understand the nature of what academic research is all about. Research begins from a series of questions and observations, and, from there, it proceeds, following a set of guidelines, to infer possible answers. In this sense, it contests. All research in fact is critical, by its very definition: it tests hypotheses, seeks answers, and must be allowed to find these answers wherever it can.But critical policy analysis does not equate with political activism, nor is it “biased” or “one-sided”, as CRA has claimed. Researchers explore specific questions of interest, and then present the results of their research. Reaching a conclusion is not the same as bias. To illustrate, a CCPA researcher explored the issue of what would be the appropriate exchange rate regime for Canada and then concluded that a floating exchange rate was desirable to alternative types of exchange rate mechanisms because the former allowed the public authorities to conduct independent macroeconomic policies. The fact that this conclusion turned out to be similar to the policy view of the Bank of Canada does not make the CCPA researcher any more political than if the researcher would have produced that same research independently within his/her respective university. The CCPA is not a political organization, nor does it engage in political or partisan activities. The fact that it has criticized government policy on a number of issues does not make it a partisan organization promoting a narrow agenda. Rather, it is engaging in serious, unbiased academic research. It may reach a different set of conclusions from those of the government, but then, this is allowed in a free-thinking, democratic country. On the contrary, we would argue, that such dissent should be encouraged and not stifled by such actions of the CRA.Indeed, if there is bias, the bias seems to be mostly in the CRA’s decision to audit the CCPA and apparently no other think tanks, whose policy conclusions are friendlier toward current government policies. We are not aware of any audits being launched regarding “bias” at conservative think tanks like the Fraser Institute; some have publicly confirmed that they are not being audited (including the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and the C.D. Howe Institute). We are therefore left with the conclusion that the decision to audit the CCPA is politically motivated to intimidate and silence its criticism of your government’s policies. We therefore strongly urge the CRA to put a moratorium on its audits of think tanks, until such time as a truly neutral criteria and auditing process are implemented to ensure neutrality and fairness, and to ensure that the audit process does not silence dissenting voices. Periodic audit should be conducted in a fair, transparent, and even-handed fashion across all the various think-tanks that claim charitable status in Canada, with a focus on financial management and integrity (not on the content of the research being conducted). Why single out only one such research centre that happens to be more critical of government policy? Instead of trying to muzzle and impede sound and legitimate research, it is now time for you to try to promote more effectively the public good in the form of sound critical research for which Canadian researchers are respected internationally.
1 PETER 4:16-19
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
REVELATION 6:9-11
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain(BEHEADED) for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
REVELATION 20:4
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands;(WILLINGLY-THEY CHOSE THE IMPLANT) and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

U.S. sees Middle East help fighting IS, Britain cautious after beheading-Reuters-By Will Dunham and Andrew Osborn-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSWASHINGTON/LONDON (Reuters) - Washington said countries in the Middle East had offered to join air strikes against Islamic State militants and Australia said it would send troops, but Britain held back even after the group beheaded a British hostage and threatened to kill another.U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has been touring the Middle East to try to secure backing for U.S. efforts to build a coalition to fight the Islamic State militants who have grabbed territory in Syria and Iraq. The United States resumed air strikes in Iraq in August for the first time since the 2011 withdrawal of the last U.S. troops, fearful the militants would break the country up and use it as a base for attacks on the West. The addition of Arab fighter jets would greatly strengthen the credibility of what is a risky and complicated campaign."We have countries in this region, countries outside of this region, in addition to the United States, all of whom are prepared to engage in military assistance, in actual strikes if that is what it requires," Kerry said."And we also have a growing number of people who are prepared to do all the other things," he said in remarks broadcast on Sunday on the CBS program "Face the Nation".Australia became the first country to detail troop numbers and aircraft to fight the militants in Iraq. It said it would send a 600 strong force and eight fighter jets to the region but did not intend to operate in Syria. Russia, at odds with the West over Ukraine, has said any air strikes in Syria would be an act of aggression without the consent of President Bashar al-Assad or an international mandate.Britain has often been the first country to join U.S. military action overseas and is under pressure to get much tougher with IS after video footage of the killing of Briton David Haines by IS militants was released on Saturday. In footage consistent with the filmed executions of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, in the past month, they also threatened to kill another British hostage.Speaking after chairing a meeting of the government's emergency response committee in London, Prime Minister David Cameron called the killing of Haines, a 44 year-old Scottish aid worker, callous and brutal and hailed him as a "British hero"."We will hunt down those responsible and bring them to justice no matter how long it takes," he said, calling IS "the embodiment of evil" and saying his government was prepared "to take whatever steps are necessary" against the militants.
SUNNI "ANVIL"
But he did not announce any air strikes, mindful of war-weary public opinion, parliament's rejection last year of air strikes on Syria, and sensitivities surrounding Scotland's independence referendum on Thursday.U.S. allies are skeptical of how far Washington will commit to a conflict in which nearly every country in the region has a stake, set against the backdrop of Islam's 1,300-year-old rift between Sunnis and Shi'ites. Many fear there is not enough emphasis on ensuring the Iraqi government is strong and united enough to overcome sectarian divisions and run the country effectively after any intervention.Britain and the U.S. have ruled out sending ground troops back into Iraq and Kerry did not say which countries had offered."We're not looking to put troops on the ground," he said. "There are some who have offered to do so, but we are not looking for that at this moment anyway."On the CNN program "State of the Union," White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough was asked if this coalition would need ground troops beyond opposition forces in Syria and Kurdish and government forces in Iraq."Ultimately to destroy ISIL we do need to have a force, an anvil against which they will be pushed - ideally Sunni forces," he said, using an acronym for Islamic State.
"EXTREMELY ENCOURAGED"
On Thursday, Kerry won the backing for a "coordinated military campaign" from 10 Arab countries - Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and six Gulf states including rich rivals Saudi Arabia and Qatar."This is a strategy coming together as the coalition comes together and the countries declare what they are prepared to do," Kerry said in the interview, taped on Saturday in Egypt."I've been extremely encouraged to hear from all of the people that I've been meeting with about their readiness and willingness and to participate," Kerry added.France has offered to take part in air strikes in Iraq and is expected to give more details this week on what it is willing to do, although its financial resources and forces are already stretched with more than 5,000 soldiers in West Africa.Michael McCaul, a Republican who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security, told the same CBS program that Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan told him "he is ready to put his troops into Syria to fight ISIS".The U.S. could also try to persuade Egypt to put troops in Syria," McCaul said.A conference in Paris on Monday brings Iraqi authorities together with about 30 countries and organizations to coordinate their response to the Islamic State.“It will also be the first time to really gage what Russia thinks and is ready to do,” a French diplomat said. The diplomat said Syria was a different case.“The situation is not the same either legally or militarily. We do not want to strengthen Assad so we have to be sure that strikes there don’t do that,” the diplomat said.“We are ready to help Iraq’s government which has asked for our help, but not Assad’s dictatorship."(Additional reporting by Jason Szep and John Irish in Paris, Timothy Gardner in Washington, Morag MacKinnon in Perth, Australia and William Maclean in Dubai; writing by Philippa Fletcher; editing by Anna Willard)
White House seeks to win over skeptics on Islamic State fight-Reuters-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top White House aide on Sunday defended President Barack Obama's plan to fight Islamic State militants, as the administration sought to persuade the U.S. Congress to back an escalation of the effort. The Obama administration has been making the case to Congress for wider operations against the Sunni militants, including U.S. air strikes in Syria for the first time, more strikes in Iraq and more military advisers in Iraq.U.S. lawmakers have generally been supportive of the effort but Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, have accused Obama of not doing enough to deal with the problem sooner and have questioned whether the strategy goes far enough. In a round of television interviews on Sunday, White House chief of staff Denis McDonough touted the administration's efforts to put together a coalition of Western allies and Gulf Arab states."We believe that we have the right strategy that the president laid out for the country on Wednesday night to make sure that we degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL," McDonough told ABC News show "This Week," using an acronym for Islamic State. On CNN, McDonough said the strategy would be carried out in a "disciplined, thoughtful fashion."Reacting to the beheading of David Haines, a British hostage, McDonough said, "ISIL will do anything it can to strike terror and fear into its opponents, but, ultimately, that's why we're going to beat them."A new opinion poll showed American voters also question whether the administration can defeat the extremist group, whose savage methods have included beheading two American journalists as well as Haines, a British aid worker.A House vote could take place as soon as Tuesday on Obama's request for $500 million to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels, one part of his program. McDonough told "Fox News Sunday" he was pleased with progress on convincing lawmakers to vote for the plan.Republican Representative Michael McCaul, who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security, told CBS's "Face the Nation" it was important to authorize the air strikes, particularly on Syria, but Obama was late to respond to the threat."It's catch-up time trying to get a coalition together and a strategy together," he said.Senator Lindsey Graham, a leading Republican voice on foreign policy, said on "Fox News Sunday" that it was "disingenuous and delusional" of the administration to think that it could rely on air power alone to defeat Islamic State."We're fighting a terrorist army, not an organization; it's going to take an army to beat an army and this idea that we're never going to have any boots on the ground to defeat them in Syria is fantasy," he said.An NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll showed that many Americans also harbor doubts about Obama's strategy. Sixty-eight percent of voters said they had "very little" or "just some" confidence Obama would succeed in eliminating Islamic State, although 62 percent backed his plan to take action against the group. Many of Obama's fellow Democrats are wary of a vote to authorize action. The party, which is struggling to hold a slim majority in the U.S. Senate in the November mid-term elections, has a base of liberal supporters who are strongly anti-war.U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday and the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday.(Reporting by Krista Hughes and Timothy Gardner; Editing by Caren Bohan and Cynthia Osterman)
Several Arab countries offer to join air campaign on Islamic State, say U.S. officials-Reuters-By Jason Szep-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSPARIS (Reuters) - Several Arab countries have offered to join the United States in air strikes against Islamic State targets, U.S. officials said on Sunday, indicating a possible widening of the air campaign against militants who have seized parts of Iraq and Syria. The officials declined to identify which countries had made the offers but said they were under consideration as the United States begins to identify roles for each country in its emerging coalition against jihadists who have declared a caliphate in the heart of the Middle East. The addition of Arab fighter jets could strengthen the credibility of the American-led campaign in a region skeptical of how far Washington will commit to a conflict in which nearly every country has a stake, set against the backdrop of Islam's 1,300-year-old rift between Sunnis and Shi'ites.“I don’t want to leave you with the impression that these Arab members haven’t offered to do air strikes because several of them have,” a senior U.S. State Department official told reporters in Paris. The official said the offers were not limited to air strikes on Iraq. "Some have indicated for quite a while a willingness to do them elsewhere," the official said. "We have to sort through all of that because you can’t just go and bomb something."

Catalans turn out en masse to ask for independence vote-12.09.14 @ 09:27-EUOBSERVER-By Helena SpongenbergBARCELONA - Around 1.8 million Catalans took to the streets of Barcelona on Thursday (12 September) calling for the right to vote on independence. The demonstration marks the beginning of a critical period in Barcelona-Madrid relations.Dressed in red and yellow - the national colours - people shouted “in-inde-indepedencia!” and “volem votar!” (we want to vote) while waving the Catalan independence flag.Almost a quarter of the 7.5 million Catalans celebrated Catalan National Day - La Diada - in the streets of Barcelona, according to the local police forces. The day commemorates Catalonia’s loss of independence in the War of the Spanish Succession in 1714, exactly 300 years ago.Earlier this year, the Catalan Parliament voted two-thirds in favour for a consultative referendum to be held on 9 November, asking the Catalans “whether Catalonia is a state” and “if yes, whether that state should be independent”.The central government in Madrid, however, has said that it has ”all the mechanisms in place” to prevent such a vote.Catalonia's parliament is next Friday (19 September) expected to approve a new law that allows for a consultative referendum. But it is widely expected that the Spanish Constitutional Court will ban the vote from taking place.Just a few years ago, the national day was celebrated with the waving of the Catalan flag and a few official and non-official ceremonies. But the last three years has seen a big increase in both the use of Catalan independence flags and the turnout for the yearly demonstration calling for the right to self-determination.The Catalan call for more autonomy and, now more than ever, for independence from Spain, comes after a period of centralist policies from Madrid. The tipping point was when the Spanish constitutional court over-turned parts of a rewrite of the Catalan constitution that had already been approved by the Spanish parliament - all regions in Spain have their own constitution called a Statute of Autonomy. The economic crisis has also prompted Catalans to want to control their own fiscal policy, something the Spanish government has rejected.Meanwhile, a new education policy in Spain, which will effectively limit the dominance of the Catalan language in Catalan schools, has caused anger. All this, together with Madrid turning a deaf ear to demands, has made many Catalans believe that they will be better off as an independent state in the European Union. And believing that such a move might actually be possible is fuelled by the independence campaign in Scotland. The Scottish referendum, on 18 September, will be closely followed all over Spain and especially in Catalonia. A Catalan government envoy, as well as, many Catalan lawmakers will be in Scotland during the vote.A Scottish ‘Yes’ to independence would give Catalan separatists the hope that independence is no longer unrealistic. It would also serve as a test to see how other European countries, and in particular Brussels, would react to a region breaking away from an EU member state.
All eyes on Scottish independence vote this WEEK-12.09.14 @ 16:29-EUOBSERVER-By Honor MahonyBRUSSELS - This week most of the EU's attention will focus on Scottish voters who, on Thursday, will decide whether they want their country to break away from its 300-year union with rest of the UK.
Already a searing political issue in the UK where polls put the yes and no camp neck and neck, it is also of huge interest to the rest of the EU which contains several independence-minded regions.Topping the list of such regions is Catalonia which wants to have an independence referendum of its own on 9 November.A Catalan government envoy as well as several lawmakers will be in Scotland in the run-up to the vote. The interest is so large because a Yes vote would represent the first time an EU member state has broken up and would raise a series of EU questions about the newly independent state - including whether it would become an EU member, what it would pay into the EU budget, how many EP seats it would have, would it have an EU commissioner and what currency it would use. There has been much debate over the 'automaticity' of membership for a putative independent Scotland, given that it is already part of the EU.The European Commission, for its part, has gone from saying earlier this year that it would be "difficult, if not impossible" for Scotland to join to maintaining a tightlipped silence on the matter.Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond has suggested EU membership terms would be negotiated in the 18 months after any Yes vote, with the latest poll putting the No camp slighty ahead (51%) of the Yes camp (49%).The European Parliament will gather for its first work session after the summer. The new-look parliament, the eighth EU assembly, is again dominated by men (63%) and ranges from a deputy of 26 years (a Dane) to a 91-year old Greek.Around half (50.6%) of MEPs are unfamiliar with the EP's Strasbourg corridors, including all of Greece's MEPs. Deputies from Germany, on the other hand, largely remain the same (70% are returning MEPs)..On the EP's agenda is a vote on the EU's trade agreement with Ukraine (Tuesday); a discussion with outgoing EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on conflicts in the Middle East (Wednesday); and a debate on the European Youth Initiative - a €6bn fund launched in January meant to help member states implement a job-finding scheme for young people, but on which progress has been very slow.
Scots independence battle reaches fever pitch on streets and screens-Reuters-By Alistair Smout-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSGLASGOW Scotland (Reuters) - Thousands of independence supporters took to the streets of Scotland's largest city, Glasgow, on Sunday as polls showed the rival camps running desperately close just five days before a referendum which could bring the break-up of the United Kingdom.Separatist and unionist leaders worked across the country to woo undecided voters among the four million people Scots and Scotland residents who will vote on their future on Thursday.Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond, who has spearheaded the drive for independence, said he was confident the "Yes" campaign would win."We're not aiming to win by one vote. We're aiming to achieve a substantial majority if we can," he said on the BBC. Alistair Darling, a former British finance minister and leader of the "Better Together" campaign, warned that if Scots vote to split from the United Kingdom, it would be an irreversible decision that would bring economic doom and gloom. With promises from British political leaders of greater powers for Scotland in the event of a "No" vote, Scots could have the best of both worlds, Darling said. And Queen Elizabeth, coming out of a Sunday morning church service near her Scottish residence Balmoral, told a well-wisher she hoped Scots would think very carefully about the future. In Glasgow, the blue badges of the "Yes" to independence campaign dominated central Buchanan Street, with a convoy of cars driving through the downtown waving "Yes" banners and tooting horns. Buskers also sang in support of independence and a bagpipe-and-drum band drew a large crowd. The Glasgow vote will be crucial to the result, given the city's size.Thousands of people marched to the BBC headquarters, complaining that the state-run broadcaster was biased against the "Yes" campaign."We pay our license fees. We don't want them to favour us - we were just marching for an impartial state broadcaster," said Liz, a teacher.Salmond has frequently accused the BBC - which could be carved up if Scotland votes for independence - of siding with the unionists. A BBC spokesperson said the corporation has been "rigorously impartial".But the incident showed the high emotions and divisions stirred by the referendum, which could result in the end of the 307-year-old union with England and the break-up of the United Kingdom."No one wants to forget what we achieved together during the two World Wars. But where's the vision for the future?" said Ian, an IT manager from Glasgow who had been on the march.Independence supporters say it is time for Scotland to choose its own leaders and rule itself, free of control from London and politicians they say ignore their views and needs."No" campaigners say Scotland is more secure and prosperous as part of the United Kingdom and the end of the union would destroy three centuries of bonds and shared history as well as bring in economic and financial hardship.More than 4 million Scots as well as English and foreign residents, from the Highands and Islands to Glasgow's gritty inner city estates, are eligible to vote. The question on the ballot paper will ask simply: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"Out of four new polls, three showed those in favour of maintaining the union with a lead of between 2 and 8 percentage points. But an ICM poll conducted over the Internet showed supporters of independence in the lead with 54 percent and unionists on 46 percent.
RELOCATION PLANS
Last week, Scottish–based banks including RBS said they had plans to relocate should independence happen, big retailers spoke of possible price rises north of the border and Germany's Deutsche Bank warned of economic meltdown.Salmond has dismissed this as a London-contrived campaign of bullying and scare-mongering. However, the pound had dropped on market concerns of a "Yes" victory and investors have pulled billions out of British financial assets. The biggest financial question is what currency an independent Scotland would use. Salmond insists it would keep the pound in a currency union with the rump UK, but Prime Minister David Cameron and others have ruled this out.Until September, all polls but one in 2013 had shown the unionists with a comfortable lead. But such is the gravity of the situation that finance minister George Osborne cancelled a trip to the G20 meeting in Australia after the vote. Bank of England Governor Mark Carney will leave the G20 meeting early. The Queen's comment was taken by unionists as a sign of support for Scotland remaining within the United Kingdom. A Buckingham Palace source stressed that the queen was constitutionally above politics and would express no view.Salmond has said she should stay on as Queen of Scots if independence happens.Meanwhile the head of the Church of Scotland appealed for Scots to put their differences aside and reconcile after the referendum, whatever the outcome. In a nationally-broadcast sermon at Edinburgh’s St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral, Reverend John Chalmers urged Scots to vote. But he added: "The real success of next Thursday will be that...every voice will continue to play its part in shaping the kind of Scotland that people in Scotland vote for," he said.(Additional reporting by Guy Faulconbridge, Writing by Angus MacSwan, Editing by Ralph Boulton)
09/14/2014 - VATICAN INSIDER-A first for Francis: The Pope weds 20 couples from the diocese of Rome-"Marriage is not "fiction""-The spouses’ ages ranged from 30 to 50 and all came from different walks of life. Francis reminded the couples he wed today that marriage is not “fiction”-marco tosattivatican city-Marriage is not a “fiction” The path is not always a smooth one, free of disagreements, otherwise it would not be human. It is a demanding journey, at times difficult, and at times turbulent, but such is life! Marriage is a symbol of life, real life: it is not “fiction”! It is the Sacrament of the love of Christ and the Church,” Francis said in the homily he pronounced at the mass during which he celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage. The Pope celebrated the weddings of 20 couples from the diocese of Rome, in St. Peter’s Basilica. This is the first time he celebrated the Sacrament of Marriage as Pope. He spoke about the difficulties of everyday life, comparing these to “the people’s journey through the desert” and “the dangerous temptation of discouragement, infidelity, weakness, abandonment.” “Daily life becomes burdensome, even “nauseating”.”But marriage is about a “man and woman walking together, wherein the husband helps his wife to become ever more a woman, and wherein the woman has the task of helping her husband to become ever more a man. Here we see the reciprocity of differences.” Praising heterosexual marriage, he added off the cuff: “One small piece of advice. It is normal for married couples to fight. It always happens. Never let the day pass without making up. Even the smallest of gestures is enough and then you carry on walking.” “There are always crosses to bear” in marriage, the Pope concluded. “But the Lord is there to help us overcome them and move on.”There were long queues leading up to the entrance of St. Peter’s Basilica this morning and there was great excitement among the brides when it came to the moment of reciting the formula for the vows. The 20 couples all belonged to the diocese of Rome but varied in age and background. Some had been made redundant, others were temporary employees, some couples already live together and have children and other spouses were marrying again following the annulment of a previous marriage. Ages ranged from 30 to 50 years old. Flaviano and Giulia are both 30; he was made redundant and she has a part time job in a fast food restaurant. The parish where they work as volunteers paid for their wedding reception. Guido and Gabriella are just about to turn 50, they live together and have a daughter who is now a grown-up; Guido obtained an annulment form the Catholic Church for his previous marriage.Concelebrating at the mass with the Pope were the Cardinal Vicar of Rome, Agostino Vallini, Bishop Filippo Iannone, Vice-Regent and Director of the Centre for Family Pastoral Ministry of the Diocese of Rome, and forty priests who were friends of the couples. At the end of the ceremony, couples waited for Francis in the sacristy, where they greeted him in person. The couples had their wedding photographs taken by the replica of the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens. A day care centre and a youth centre were offered to Francis as a gift by the newlywed couples, at the end of the ceremony. Caritas organization of the diocese of Rome will be setting up the centre in the Colli Aniene area of Rome. The couples – many of whom belong to dioceses on the Roman periphery - decided on this gift after the appeal Francis launched during an address in the Prima Porta area of the city, Caritas explains. On that occasion, Francis had urged people to open up to the peripheries, because they are the starting point for understanding the reality in which we live. The project involves the creation of a meeting space for children and families who are residents of one of Rome’s peripheral neighbourhoods. The centres will hopefully contribute to the wellbeing of families, acting as an educational support.
09/14/2014 -VATICAN INSIDER-Francis: When will we learn our lesson from war?-The Pope during the Angelus prayer-Today the Pope reminded faithful of the Christians who are being persecuted and killed all around the world for their faith in Christ. He also spared a thought for victims of discrimination-marco tosattivatican city-On the day the Church exalts the Holy Cross, Pope Francis recalled the true meaning of the cross: that is, hope. He expressed his wholehearted support and solidarity to Christians who suffer discrimination and persecution, even in countries where religious freedom is supposedly officially guaranteed. The Cross is the sign of God’s infinite love for us. “Through the Cross of Christ the evil one is overcome death is defeated, we are gifted life, hope is restored,” Francis said. “This is important: Through the Cross of Christ hope is restored. The Cross of Jesus is our only true hope! That is why the Church "exalts" the Holy Cross, which is why we Christians bless ourselves with the sign of the cross. That is, we don’t exalt crosses but THE glorious Cross of Christ, a sign of God’s love, our salvation and journey towards the resurrection.”“This is our hope,” he went on to say. “While we contemplate and celebrate the Holy Cross, we think emotionally of so many of our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted and killed because of their faith in Christ. This happens especially there where religious freedom is still not guaranteed or fully realized. It happens, however, even in well-to-do countries which, in principle, protect freedom and human rights, but where in practice believers, and especially Christians, encounter restrictions and discrimination. So today we remember them and pray especially for them.”Violence and war were the focus of the second half of today’s Angelus prayer. Pope Francis recalled that tomorrow, a UN peacekeeping mission begins in the Central African Republic, to restore normality in a country that is being torn apart by civil war. “The civilian population … is seriously suffering the consequences of the ongoing conflict,” Francis said. “While I assure the commitment and prayer of the Catholic Church, I encourage the efforts of the international community, which is coming to the aid of the Central Africans of good will. May violence give way to dialogue.”The Pope went on to speak about yesterday’s visit to Redipuglia to the Austrian-Hungarian cemetery and the Military Shrine. “The numbers are shocking, they speak of over 8 million young soldiers who fell and an estimated 7 million civilians. This makes us understand that war is madness, and humanity has yet to learn the lessons from this madness! Because after this war, there was another world war and so many more still going on today. But when will we learn? When will we learn this lesson? I invite everyone to look at the Crucified Christ to understand that hate and evil are defeated by forgiveness and good, to understand that the response of war only increases evil and death!”

PAKISTAN RAPE CULTURE-ISLAM AT ITS WORST
http://www.ezralevant.com/pakistans-rape-problem/White House seeks to win over skeptics on Islamic State fight-Reuters-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top White House aide on Sunday defended President Barack Obama's plan to fight Islamic State militants, as the administration sought to persuade the U.S.
NATO countries have begun arms deliveries to Ukraine: defense minister-Reuters-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSKIEV (Reuters) - Ukraine's defense minister said on Sunday that NATO countries were delivering weapons to his country to equip it to fight pro-Russian separatists and "stop" Russian President Vladimir Putin.Valery Heletey told a news conference he had discussed weapons deliveries in bilateral meetings with NATO defense ministers during a NATO summit in Wales on Sept. 4-5.NATO officials have said it will not send "lethal assistance" to non-member Ukraine but member states may do so.Earlier this month, a senior Ukrainian official said Kiev had agreed on the provision of weapons and military advisers from several members of the U.S.-led alliance. Four of the five countries named, including the United States, denied this."We reached agreements in closed talks, without media, about ... those weapons that we currently need," said Heletey, who said Ukraine needed weapons "that could stop Putin"."I have no right to disclose any specific country we reached that agreement with. But the fact is that those weapons are already on the way to us - that's absolutely true, I can officially tell you," he said.Heletey said about 3,500 Russian troops were now on Ukrainian territory with a further 25,000 massed on the Russian side of the joint border.Moscow denies accusations by Kiev and its Western backers that it has sent troops and tanks into eastern Ukraine to support separatists in a conflict with Ukrainian forces that has killed more than 3,000 people.A ceasefire negotiated by envoys from Ukraine, Russia, the separatists and Europe's OSCE security watchdog has been in place in eastern Ukraine since Sept. 5.It is broadly holding despite regular but sporadic violations, especially in key flashpoints such as Donetsk.(Additional reporting by Kiryl Sukhotski; Writing by Richard Balmforth; Editing by Tom Heneghan)
EU and Ukraine suspend trade pact-12.09.14 @ 20:03-EUOBSERVER-By Andrew RettmanBRUSSELS - Ukraine and the EU are to delay the entry into life of a strategic trade treaty for more than one year due to Russian concerns. The free trade pact was originally to enter into force on 1 November. But following meetings between European Commission trade chief Karel De Gucht, Ukraine’s foreign minister, and Russia’s economy minister in Brussels on Friday (12 September) it will now be implemented on 31 December 2015.Defending the deal, De Gucht told press it means Russia will not impose trade restrictions on Ukraine in the next 15 months. He also said it is “advantageous to your country [Ukraine]” because the EU will extend its low tariff regime for Ukrainian exports while Ukraine can continue to impose tariffs on EU goods. He said the decision was made due to the “very difficult economic situation in Ukraine”.He added: “This is part and parcel of the comprehensive peace process in Ukraine”.When asked if the content of the EU trade treaty can be changed in the run-up to December next year, he replied: “We will discuss everything that is brought to the table”.The trade pact is 5kg of technical documents, but it has symbolic value in Ukraine.Hundreds of people died in the “Euromaidan” revolution in February when Ukraine’s former leader decided not to sign it.Thousands more died after Russia attacked Ukraine to stop it joining Western blocs. One Ukraine-based EU diplomat told EUobserver the De Gucht news caused “shock, astonishment”. He noted that European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso and Ukraine president Petro Poroshenko had earlier the same day in Kiev spoken of ratifying the treaty on 16 September and implementing it on 1 November.Barroso has on several occasions said Russia cannot have a veto on EU-Ukraine ties.Referring to the De Gucht talks on Friday, he said they will “hopefully, [be] meeting some Russian concerns”.Poroshenko said he had asked the EU to “defer” the lifting of Ukrainian import tariffs on EU goods and Ukraine's compliance with EU food safety standards. He ruled out changing the content of the treaty, however.Back in Brussels, De Gucht noted that ratification will still go ahead on 16 September “to my understanding”.He added that EU countries still have to give their blessing to the trade pact delay. The EU earlier on Friday imposed economic sanctions on Russia over its invasion of east Ukraine, with Russia threatening to retaliate with “asymmetric” measures. But De Gucht said he did not discuss the sanctions with the Russian minister because they are “out of my remit”.
EU names 24 new people, 14 firms in Russia sanctions-12.09.14 @ 09:29-EUOBSERVER-By Andrew RettmanBRUSSELS - EU countries have added Russia’s top oil firms, an oligarch, and a leading nationalist MP to their blacklist. The names were published in the bloc’s Official Journal on Friday (12 September) in reaction to Russia’s invasion of east Ukraine last week. The new regulation forbids EU entities from buying debt with a 30 or more day maturity, issuing loans, or selling financial services to five banks, three oil firms, and three defence companies. The banks, already named in an earlier ban on 90-day bonds, are: Gazprombank; Rosselkhozbank; Sberbank; VEB; and VTB.The newly named oil firms are: Rosneft; Transneft; and Gazprom Neft. The newly sanctioned defence companies are: Oboronprom; United Aircraft Corporation; and Uralvagonzavod. The regulation blocks the sale of “dual-use” items to eight more newly named defence and technology firms: Almaz Antey; Bazalt; Chemcomposite; Kalashnikov; Sirius; Stankoinstrument; Technologii Maschinostrojenija; Wysokototschnye Kompleksi. It forbids EU entities from supplying services for Russian deep water, Arctic, or shale oil exploration, including: drilling; well testing; logging and completion services; and supply of specialised floating vessels. It also imposes an asset freeze and visa ban on 24 people, bringing the total since the Ukraine conflict erupted in March to 119.Ten of them are pro-Russia rebel chiefs in east and south Ukraine and in Crimea, including Donetsk region “prime minister” Aleksandr Zakharchenko, who recently co-signed a peace deal with Ukraine and Russia.Twelve are Russian MPs who supported the war on Ukraine, including firebrand nationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The new blacklist also names Russian oligarch Sergey Chemezov and major-general Aleksey Naumets. It says that Chemezov, who chairs the Rostec arms conglomerate, is a “close associate” of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and that one of his firms is now building an energy plant in Crimea, which Russia annexed in March. It says Naumets “is the commander of the 76th airborne division, which has been involved in the Russian military presence on the territory of Ukraine”.EU Council head Herman Van Rompuy noted in a statement on Thursday the EU will assess “before the end of the month” whether Russia’s peace deal with Ukraine is being implemented. He added that “in the light of the review and if the situation on the ground so warrants” the EU will “amend, suspend or repeal the set of sanctions in force, in all or in part”.The White House on Thursday said it will also publish details of new measures on Friday. Its statement noted the decision "will deepen and broaden sanctions in Russia’s financial, energy, and defence sectors", adding, like the EU, that these can be "rolled back".Russia has threatened to retaliate against Europe by banning EU airlines from flying over Siberia and by blocking exports of used cars. It has also started reducing gas supplies, hitting Poland and Slovakia this week.Ukraine, Russia, and pro-Russia rebels agreed a ceasefire in Minsk on 5 September. But sporadic shooting has continued, the rebels are still calling for independence, and some Russian forces remain inside Ukraine.
Nigeria military says one of its warplanes missing in northeast-Reuters-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSABUJA (Reuters) - The Nigerian military said on Sunday one of its fighter jets that was operating in a northeast state where the armed forces are fighting Islamist Boko Haram militants had gone missing.
A search and rescue operation was underway for the Nigerian air force Alpha jet which was on a routine operational mission on Friday over Adamawa state when contact was lost with the aircraft, the Nigerian armed forces said in a statement. The statement gave no more details and there was no other information available on whether the plane, which had left an air base at the Adamawa state capital Yola and had a crew of two, had crashed or been shot down.Nigeria's military, backed by war planes, has been fighting to push back recent advances by Boko Haram into the north of Adamawa state and also towards Maiduguri, the state capital of neighboring Borno state. The army said it beat back an attack outside Maiduguri on Friday.Boko Haram, which has killed thousands since it launched its anti-government insurgency in the northeast in 2009, has in recent weeks captured and held a string of towns and villages in the region, a departure from its usual hit-and-run tactics. Its leader Abubakar Shekau is apparently trying to follow the example of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, which has declared its own caliphate. Nigeria's government has vowed to take back the seized territory from Boko Haram.(Reporting by Felix Onuah; Writing by Pascal Fletcher. Editing by Jane Merriman)

Enterovirus D-68: Alberta testing for strain after spike in child hospital admissions-CBC – SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSAn Alberta children's hospital says it has seen a spike in the number of children admitted for respiratory problems in the past several weeks and is adding new beds to the pediatric unit to keep up with demand.Alberta Health Services says it has seen a spike in "respiratory-related admissions" at the Alberta Children's Hospital since the end of August. While that isn't unusual in and of itself — the "September spike" is well-documented — it comes as doctors in the U.S. grapple with the spread of enterovirus D-68, which has been sending more children to intensive care wards in that country than the typical common cold.Bruce Conway, spokesperson for AHS, says the health authority is running lab tests to see whether the strain currently sending children to hospital in Alberta is the same strain circulating in the U.S.Enterovirus is not uncommon but the D-68 strain tends to cause more serious symptoms including wheezing, trouble breathing and children not eating. No children have died during the outbreak of the strain in the U.S. but doctors there say it has caused unusually severe symptoms. There have been 82 cases of D-68 in Canada over the past 15 years and there is no vaccine or antiviral therapy. Most children recover without lasting problems and treatment includes keeping the child home, administering plenty of fluids and ensuring the child gets rest.

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.
Powerful Hurricane Odile aims at Mexico's Baja-Associated Press-By ALBA MORA ROCA-SEPT 14,14-YAHOONEWSSAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico (AP) — Hurricane Odile grew into a powerful Category 4 storm Sunday and took aim at the resort area of Los Cabos, prompting Mexican authorities to evacuate vulnerable coastal areas and prepare shelters for up to 30,000 people. The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Odile was on a track to pass close to or directly over the southern end of the Baja California Peninsula late Sunday and into Monday.Odile's maximum sustained winds increased to 135 (215 kph). Its center was about 185 miles (300 kilometers) south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California and was moving to the northwest at 15 mph (24 kph).David Korenfeld, director of Mexico's National Water Commission, described Odile as a "highly dangerous" storm.High winds, deadly surf and heavy rains were possible for Baja and parts of the mainland. Some 800 marines were on standby, and officials readied heavy equipment to help out in areas where mudslides could occur. In Los Cabos, skies clouded over as gusty winds whipped palm trees and waves pounded the rocky coastline. Fluttering black flags signaled that beaches were closed due to high surf.Luis Felipe Puente, national coordinator for Mexico's civil protection agency, said 164 shelters had been prepared for as many as 30,000 people in the state of Baja California Sur. He said occupancy in hotels was low, but tourists were warned to stay inside in the safer areas of the hotels and keep away from doors and windows.Hotel officials kept guests updated about the storm's approach and distributed movies and board games in anticipation of everyone having to hunker down inside later in the day. Workers put protective plastic sheeting over hotel windows. Guests were advised to have their bags packed and passports at the ready.Ann Montalvo, a tourist from California staying at the Westin resort, said hotel workers seemed to be taking the right steps to ensure guests' safety, and she wasn't worried."I live in the San Francisco area where we have earthquakes, so we're always kind of on our toes anyway," Montalvo said.A hurricane warning was in effect for Baja California Sur from Punta Abreojos to La Paz. Mexican authorities declared a maximum alert for areas in or near Odile's path, and ports in Baja California were to remain closed.Korenfeld said there was also a chance the storm could track into the Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez, and as a precaution authorities were on high alert. In the central Atlantic, Tropical Storm Edouard strengthened into a hurricane with sustained winds of 80 mph (130 kph), although it was expected to remain far out at sea and pose no threat to land. The U.S. hurricane center said Edouard's center was 915 miles (1,470 kilometers) east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands and was moving northwest at 16 mph (26 kph).___Associated Press writer Maria Verza in Mexico City contributed to this report.
