Tropical Storm Julio hits Mexico's Baja peninsula By IGNACIO MARTINEZ, Associated Press Writer AUG 25,08

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico - Tropical Storm Julio drenched the resort-studded southern Baja California peninsula with heavy rains Sunday as authorities evacuated more than 2,500 families living along riverbeds near the coast. Julio moved over Baja with sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph) and was pushing inland and northward past Cabo San Lucas, where many families moved to shelters. The U.S. Hurricane Center in Miami said Julio could dump 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 centimeters) of rain on the normally parched Mexican peninsula, raising fears of flash flooding. The storm was expected to weaken to a tropical depression late Monday. Most vacationers rode out the bad weather inside their hotel rooms, but some ventured out on shopping trips and excursions on Sunday. They're very calm, said Jorge Castro, front desk manager at the hillside Hotel Finiterra. The 224 guests were warned to stay away from the ocean, but none made plans to leave early. They can see it's not a huge problem. Some have even gone out on activities, on tours, or sand biking, Castro added. The storm was centered about 50 miles (85 kilometers) west-northwest of the Baja California Sur state capital of La Paz, and was moving north-northwest at 13 mph (20 kph). Tropical storm force winds extended 70 miles (110 kilometers) from the storm center. The hurricane center said the storm should enter the northern Gulf of California by Tuesday.

Chad floods force 10,000 from homes, kill 3: U.N. By Moumine Ngarmbassa
Sat Aug 23, 10:19 AM ET

N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Floods in southern Chad have forced 10,000 people from their homes and killed three, the United Nations said on Saturday, adding to the toll from seasonal rains spreading destruction and disease across Africa's Sahel region. The United Nations said last week floods had uprooted an estimated 200,000 people across West Africa.Kingsley Amaning, U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator for Chad, said in a statement on Saturday that 10,000 had lost their homes due to flooding in and around the southern town of Sahr.Torrential rains have been hitting Sahr since late July, and have continued up to the present time, Amaning's office said in a statement.

Three people, caught under their collapsing homes, have been reported dead, and eight seriously injured, it said.Seasonal rains fall generally between June and October across Africa's Sahel band, which runs across the continent south of the Sahara. Heavy or prolonged downpours can cause flash flooding and cause mud-built houses to collapse.School teacher Rock Ndotam was one of the lucky ones: part of his house collapsed, but some of it was still standing at the weekend despite waterlogged streets and alleyways in the Mangara district where he lives on the outskirts of Sahr.We are crammed into two rooms along with all the children, the father of seven told Reuters by telephone from Sahr.We haven't received any help yet -- we have been registered, but we are still waiting. ... These are really difficult conditions, he said.U.N. aid workers are concentrating on getting sheeting for shelter, chlorine to purify drinking water, health supplies and nutritional supplements such as high energy biscuits for children and nursing mothers. They are particularly worried about hygiene and spreading disease as flooding had destroyed some 122 latrines and showers. The spread of malaria, diarrhea and respiratory diseases, could affect up to 30,000 people, World Health Organization doctor Dah ould-Cheik said in the U.N. statement.

Water-borne diseases are a threat during seasonal rains, which have been particularly heavy in some parts of West Africa this year.Flooding in July forced an estimated 150,000 people from their homes in Benin alone. In neighboring Togo, France sent troops to help rebuild bridges swept away by rains that killed at least nine people.Further round Africa's Atlantic coast, tiny Guinea-Bissau is struggling to control an outbreak of cholera that has killed at least 59 people since May.

Two million hit by Indian monsoon, toll reaches 800 Sun Aug 24, 3:37 PM ET

LUCKNOW, India (AFP) - The death toll from monsoon-related accidents reached 800 and two million people have been displaced by flooding following heavy rains across India, officials said on Sunday. At least 26 people died in overnight accidents in northern Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll to 686 in the country's most populous state since the monsoon struck in June, Relief Commissioner G. K. Tandon said.Several districts are receiving continuous rains for the past month and a half, Tandon said in the state capital Lucknow as local aid agencies backed by World Health Organisation staff rushed emergency supplies to those affected.Tandon put the number of people hit by the floods at 1.29 million and said 3,000 villages were swamped in Uttar Pradesh, in monsoon damage he described as unprecedented.Lightning strikes, boat accidents and house collapses are common during the June-September monsoon in tropical India. In the adjacent eastern state of Bihar, 24 people died in rain-linked accidents since Saturday, a government spokesman said in the regional capital Patna.

The latest fatalities raised Bihar's monsoon death toll to at least 60 so far this month, according to the latest figures.Nearly 750,000 people are reeling under the impact of the floods, a Bihar Disaster Management Department spokesman said. The army deployed rescue helicopters as experts warned seven rivers in Bihar were in spate and that more rain was forecast.Northern Punjab saw 14 deaths in August, while 40 others died in heavy downpours in southern India during the month, according to separate official reports.Authorities in New Delhi evacuated scores of farmers from the banks of Yamuna as the river flowed at danger levels, officials said on Sunday.

The river banks are now swamped and we are ready to plug any breach that may occur in the anti-flood embankments, a city flood official said.Last year more than 2,000 people were killed in the worst monsoon floods in decades that wreaked havoc across South Asia.

Lingering Fay dumps rain on south, eyes New Orleans Sun Aug 24, 3:08 PM ET

MIAMI (AFP) - Tropical storm Fay, which left dozens dead in the Caribbean and Florida, has been downgraded to a depression but was still drenching southern US states Sunday along the Katrina-ravaged Gulf coast. Fay weakens to a depression, but heavy rains and flooding could continue for several days, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said in a statement late Saturday, with the storm slowing to a crawl after an extraordinarily long run beginning August 15, when it formed in the Caribbean. The depression swirled over the Florida Panhandle and crept westward into Alabama and Mississippi on Sunday, with New Orleans and other coastal cities and towns still suffering from Hurricane Katrina's ferocity three years ago now bracing for as much as 12 inches (30 centimeters) of rain.On Saturday Fay spawned tornadoes that ripped through seven counties in south Florida, destroying 10 homes and damaging 50 others, local emergency officials said. Some 50,000 homes have been flooded, and the storm knocked out power for 100,000 people.Fay killed 11 people during its seven-day zig-zag over Florida, and President George W. Bush declared an emergency in the waterlogged, wind-battered state on Thursday, opening the way for federal disaster assistance.

Since it powered up from the Caribbean just short of hurricane strength last weekend, Fay first blasted through the tourist-heavy Florida Keys, then plowed up the west coast before making landfall Tuesday and crossing very slowly to the northeast. It drifted out over the Atlantic before boomeranging back westward over northern Florida and towards other Gulf coast states. The storm is reportedly blamed for at least one death in Georgia as well. While the storm began breaking apart on Sunday as dry air sucked it inland, it was still packing heavy rain that has put officials in New Orleans on guard against a repeat of the devastating deadly flooding delivered by Hurricane Katrina.A flash flood watch is in effect through Monday evening for much of southeastern Louisiana, Danielle Manning of the National Weather Service told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.Army Corps of Engineers staff in New Orleans were put on alert to monitor water levels in canals that are connected to Lake Pontchartrain -- the lake whose levees famously burst during Katrina -- and to implement emergency drainage operations if needed. We have activated our teams as a precautionary measure for the safety of the public, New Orleans district commander Alvin Lee said in the Times-Picayune.We are ready to close the gates and run the pumps should the need arise, he added.Governor Bob Riley declared a state of emergency in Alabama, where officials issued flood warnings, opened shelters and readied trucks capable of conducting floodwater rescues. The storm was working itself westward at about 10 miles (16 kilometers) per hour, but Fay could become nearly stationary or stall on Monday over eastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi, according to the National Weather Service.Earlier in the Caribbean, Fay left a trail of destruction and at least 40 deaths -- most of them in Haiti, where a truck carrying around 60 passengers plunged into a swollen river during the storm.

Fla. homes evacuated as waters rise in wake of Fay By SARAH LARIMER, Associated Press Writer AUG 25,08

MIAMI - Flooding left behind by Tropical Storm Fay forced residents in parts of northern Florida out of their homes Sunday, while the storm's remnants were forecast to dump several inches of rain on at least four other states. Officials ferried people by boat from homes in DeBary, 25 miles north of Orlando, where some streets were under 4 feet of water, and flooded neighborhoods in and around Tallahassee.

The water is very deep. It's already at everybody's door, said Debra Galloway, who lives in the Timber Lake subdivision east of Tallahassee. She was still at home Sunday evening but had no power and said if the rain continued, she would join neighbors who had already left by boat.Fay made landfall a record four times in Florida before it was downgraded to a tropical depression late Saturday. The storm caused widespread flooding as it zigzagged across Florida for nearly a week.Fay has been blamed for 13 deaths in the U.S., 11 in Florida and one each in Alabama and Georgia. A total of 23 died in Haiti and the Dominican Republic from flooding. The storm's remnants were forecast to bring several inches of rain to Alabama, Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and Tennessee on Sunday and Monday.President Bush declared four hard-hit Florida counties disaster areas. The declaration makes funds available for emergency work and repairs to governments in Brevard, Monroe, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. More could be added later. On Sunday, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist visited the site of heavy flooding in Wakulla County in the Florida Panhandle.I think this storm is close to being over, Crist told Red Cross volunteers. I don't know of one staying here longer.

Crist stopped at the Riverside Cafe on the banks of the St. Marks River, where a pole indicates the water level of past storms. While Hurricane Dennis brought 4 feet of water in 2005, owner Stan West said Fay brought only about 6 inches.God was good to us, West said as he served Crist fried and raw oysters. But forecasters said West and others along the St. Marks River and similar waterways may not be in the clear.

The river was recorded at 6.9 feet on Friday. On Sunday, it was at 12.89 feet, and it may take some time for the water to recede, said Todd Hamill, a forecaster at the Southeast River Forecast Center in Georgia. The 310-mile St. Johns River, which runs north from central Florida to the far northeast corner of the state, is the most swollen it has been since the 2004 hurricane season, Hamill said. On Wednesday, it was at 3.5 feet at one point. Four days of heavy rain later, it was at 10.2 feet. The water had nowhere to go, he said.In Timber Lake, the 300-home subdivision near Tallahassee, firefighters, police and sheriff's deputies spent Saturday night and all day Sunday ferrying people out after a large holding pond overflowed. As many as 100 homes were flooded, while the rest were cut off from the subdivision's only entrance road. Water rose near the tops of mailboxes, stranding several cars, and residents were told it could be days before power was restored because transformers were underwater.Lagorris Smith, 35, went back to his house by boat to get his 6-year-old daughter's backpack and school work. He had gotten his family out just as water reached his house, though it had not flooded by Sunday evening. We were blessed, said Smith, who said he had never seen such bad flooding in seven years in the subdivision. Jason Russell, 34, closed Friday on a new house in a different neighborhood. He hadn't intended to move until next weekend, but after the power went out, he spent Sunday emptying his Timber Lake house. We're getting the hell out of here, said Russell, whose face was covered in sweat as he and his brother-in-law hauled a small freezer up a dirt path and through the woods, the only way out of the subdivision besides the flooded main road. This sucks. In other states, the rain was welcome. Some areas expected to get heavy rain have been suffering long-term drought conditions. In Huntsville, Ala., National Weather Service senior forecaster Andy Kula said the five-day rainfall projection through Friday — 6 to 7 inches south of the Tennessee River and 3 to 4 inches north of the river — would spread out and was not expected to create a flood problem. We need something like this to recharge the soil. It probably won't be a total drought-buster, Kula said.

President Bush Names 4 Florida Counties Disaster Areas From Fay
Posted By: Josey Crews AUG 25,08

MIAMI, FL (AP) -- President Bush declared Sunday that four Florida counties hit hardest by Tropical Storm Fay are major disaster areas, making them eligible for federal aid. The declaration makes funds available for emergency work and repairs to governments in Brevard, Monroe, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. State and federal emergency officials are still assessing the damage from the weeklong storm that caused at least 11 deaths in Florida and one each in Georgia and Alabama. More counties could be added. The funding has not yet been extended to individual homeowners whose properties were damaged by high winds or flood waters. I'm pleased about the declaration and grateful to President Bush, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said before touring flood damage at the St. Mark's River in north Florida. Mary Blakeney, spokeswoman for the emergency management office in Okeechobee County, said officials hope to have a decision in coming days about individual home owner assistance. Those calls have been coming in ... and, at this point, we have some teams coming in that will be doing a more detailed assessment where they will be going into these homes and looking at what type of damage they've had, Blakeney said. Fay was downgraded to a tropical depression on Saturday night after making a record fourth landfall in Florida. Its remnants were forecast to dump several inches of rain across Alabama, Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and Tennessee on Sunday and Monday. Emergency officials in Alabama attributed another death to Fay on Sunday after recovering the body of a man who disappeared swimming in Lake Martin on Saturday during rough weather caused by the storm.

Authorities remain concerned about flooding in areas hit hard by the storm in central Florida. Brevard County Emergency Management spokeswoman Kimberly Prosser said waters on the St. John's River could continue to rise as runoff flows into the river. Some of the areas expected to get heavy rains Sunday and Monday have been suffering long-term drought conditions. In Huntsville, Ala., National Weather Service senior forecaster Andy Kula said the 5-day rainfall projection through Friday -- 6 to 7 inches south of the Tennessee River and 3 to 4 inches north of the river -- would spread out and was not expected to create a flood problem. We need something like this to recharge the soil. It probably won't be a total drought-buster, Kula said Sunday. o help victims of this disaster, please call 1-800-825-3786.

US warship carrying aid supplies reaches Georgia By DAVID RISING, Associated Press Writer AUG 25,08

ABOARD THE U.S.S. MCFAUL - A U.S. Navy destroyer loaded with humanitarian aid reached Georgia's Black Sea port of Batumi on Sunday, bringing baby food, bottled water and a message of support for an embattled ally. Before the warship arrived, a Russian general suggested U.S. ships moving across the Black Sea would worsen tensions already driven to a post-Cold War high by a short but intense war between Russia and Georgia. The population of Georgia will feel more safe from today from the Russian aggression, Georgian Defense Minister David Kezerashvili told The Associated Press on the aft missile deck of the McFaul after greeting U.S. Navy officers in crisp white uniforms on shore. They will feel safe not because the destroyer is here but because they will feel they are not alone facing the Russian aggression, he added.Local children offered the Americans wine and flowers. In Europe, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said he would convene a special meeting of European Union leaders over the crisis as Russia ignored Western accusations it has fallen short of its commitment to withdraw forces from its smaller neighbor. The war erupted Aug. 7 as Georgia launched a massive artillery barrage targeting the Russian-backed separatist province of South Ossetia. Russian forces repelled the offensive and drove deep into Georgia, taking crucial positions across the small former Soviet republic.Russia pulled the bulk of its troops and tanks out Friday under a cease-fire brokered by Sarkozy, but built up its forces in and around South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another separatist region. They also left other military posts at locations inside Georgia proper. The U.S. and EU say both those moves violated Russia's commitments.NATO halted the operations of its vehicle for interaction with Russia, demanding a fuller withdrawal, and Moscow responded by freezing military contacts with the alliance — its Cold War foe whose eastward expansion has angered a resurgent Russia. The guided missile cruiser USS McFaul, carrying about 55 tons of humanitarian aid, is the first of three American ships scheduled to arrive this week. It brought baby food, diapers, bottled water, milk and hygiene products.

Sailors in a chain on deck passed the supplies up from the hold to be lifted by a crane for transport to shore. The commander of the U.S. task force carrying aid to Georgia by ship, Navy Capt. John Moore, downplayed the significance of a destroyer bringing aid.We really are here on a humanitarian mission, he said. The McFaul, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, is outfitted with an array of weaponry, including Tomahawk cruise missiles, which can carry either conventional or nuclear warheads, and a sophisticated radar system. For security reasons the Navy does not say whether ships are carrying nuclear weapons, but they usually do not.The deputy chief of Russia's general staff suggested that the arrival of U.S. and other NATO ships in the Black Sea would increase tensions. Russia shares the sea with NATO members Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria as well as Georgia and Ukraine, whose pro-Western presidents are leading drives for NATO membership.I don't think such a buildup will foster the stabilization of the atmosphere in the region, Russia's ITAR-Tass news agency quoted Col. Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn as saying Saturday.A U.S. official said the American ship anchored in Batumi, Georgia's main oil port on the Black Sea, because of concerns about damage to the Georgian port of Poti — not because Poti is closer to Russian forces in Abkhazia and Georgia proper. Russian troops still hold positions near Poti, and Georgian port officials say radar, Coast Guard ships and other port facilities were extensively damaged by Russian forces. AP journalists there have reported on Russians looting the area. An AP television cameraman and his Georgian driver were treated roughly and briefly detained Sunday by Russian troops outside Poti as he shot video of Russian positions. Adding to the tension, South Ossetian officials claimed that Georgia was building up military forces in an area along the edge of the battered region and had fired sporadically at villages overnight. As Moscow's military moved to redraw de facto borders on the ground, Russia's parliament on Monday was planning to consider renewed requests from South Ossetia and Abkhazia for recognition of their claims of independence from Georgia.

Georgia claims Russia wants to annex the regions.

In other developments, a few miles west of the central city of Gori a fire tore through an oil train after an explosion, sending plumes of black smoke into the air. The cause was not clear. Several Georgian officials said they suspected the train hit a land mine and blamed Russian forces, who just withdrew from the area. Later, one official suggested the fire could be linked to discarded munitions in the area.

Georgia straddles a key westward route for oil from Azerbaijan and other Caspian Sea nations including Kazakhstan, giving it added strategic importance as the U.S. and the EU seek to decrease Russia's dominance of oil and gas exports from the former Soviet Union. Associated Press Writers Christopher Torchia in Gori and Skra, Georgia; Misha Dzhindhzikhashvili in Tbilisi, Georgia; and Steve Gutterman in Moscow contributed to this report.

SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE (NOT THE WORLD) THE WORLD GOES ON FOREVER.

GENESIS 1:5,14
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:(ISRAELS HOLY DAYS AND SABBATH STARTS AT 6PM) And for SIGNS (PROPHECY SIGNS TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE, OUR DAY)

IN THE BEGINNING God's true calendar not a 7-day cycle? Some Christians challenging system, say Sabbath floats month to month August 22, 2008 10:35 pm Eastern By Joe Kovacs 2008 WorldNetDaily

Is it possible the entire world is just plain wrong when it comes to the current method of counting of days, weeks and months? At least two Christian women on the Pacific Coast think so, as they claim God's original calendar set into motion at Creation is not based on a continuous seven-day week.Their belief is that the true system of counting time is tied to what is called a lunisolar calendar, based upon both the sun and phases of the moon. They contend every new moon restarts the seven-day cycle, rather than having a continuous seven-day cycle which currently runs the world.

Laura Lee Vornholt-Jones

I could have gone my whole life and such a concept would have never occurred to me, says Laura Lee Vornholt-Jones, a 39-year-old full-time mother in Spokane, Wash., who has adjusted her traditional Seventh-Day Adventist outlook of Saturday observance to this alternate method since learning of it in late 2006. It was Earth-shattering to say the least.Vornholt-Jones has posted this theory on her 4AngelsPublications website, where she offers her book on the issue, The Great Calendar Controversy, for sale and for free viewing online. She told WND she still observes a Sabbath – that is to say, a biblical day of rest – every seven days; but she says the precise day of the week for that Sabbath actually floats from month to month when compared to the Gregorian calendar commonly used today. The theory suggests whatever day of the week the new moon occurs on, that particular day becomes Day One of the month. Then, count seven days from Day One until you reach the initial Sabbath of the month, which would always be on the eighth calendar day of the month. The next day of rest would be on the 15th, then the 22nd and 29th.Vornholt-Jones and her friend, photographer Kerrie French of Garden Valley, Calif., sought to bring the issue to light after reading a 2001 WND story in which Jan Marcussen, a fellow Seventh-Day Adventist from Thompsonville, Ill., was so sure there was no Bible verse declaring the first day of the week to be the Sabbath, he offered up to $1 million for clear, Scriptural proof.

Kerrie French

French says she became aware of this concept in July of last year.I studied it in depth for three months before making a complete paradigm shift from a Saturday Sabbath to what I call the lunisolar Creation Sabbath, French said. It was at a Hebrew-style wedding. The bride-to-be mentioned that Saturday was no longer her Sabbath, but that her Sabbath for that month of July 2007 was actually on Tuesday. I was shocked! The women claim according to this method of reasoning, every Sabbath in August 2008 actually falls on Sunday, the first day of the week. It's total bunk. These woman don't know anything from whence they speak, says one WND reader. The Bible says on the seventh day God rested and hallowed it. That was from the creation of the world, I don't know how much clearer you can get. The weekly Sabbath has nothing to do with the lunar or solar year. It never has, not even until this day. Jesus followed the same seventh day that Jews and Saturday-observant Christians follow today.Vornholt-Jones claims that persecution of both Jews and Christians became so intense in the 4th century, that knowledge of the true system was actually lost.As WND has reported, the whole subject of Sabbath observance is a hotly contested one in Christian circles, with believers split among Saturday, Sunday, any day of the week or even no special day of rest of any kind. When it comes to the origin of calendars, historians don't always provide concrete, universal answers.

For instance, the Encyclopedia Britannica explains, The origin of the Jewish calendar can no longer be accurately traced. It goes on to reveal disputes among scholars between the observance of a solar year in ancient Israel or a lunisolar calendar similar to that of ancient Babylonia. The online Jewish Encyclopedia clearly defines the Sabbath as The seventh day of the week; the day of rest. But the Universal Jewish Encyclopedia asserts, The new moon is still, and the Sabbath originally was, dependent upon the lunar cycle ... . Pastor Robert B. Scott of Edmonton, Alberta, told WND: Regardless of what Jews have done or not done in history, nowhere in God's Word does proof exist that the new moons are to be regarded as holy Sabbath convocations for corporate worship. Whatever Jews may have done in history is irrelevant in determining whether the new moons are Sabbaths. We must obey the Word – not history.

Statue of Julius Caesar

Most nations of the world today abide by the Gregorian calendar, a solar-based system with 365 and 1/4 days, with individual weeks cycling every seven days from Sunday through Saturday. It was proclaimed in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII as a reform of the Julian calendar, which was instituted by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C., though not operating smoothly until A.D. 8.Vornholt-Jones maintains she's still a Seventh-Day Adventist, but says this concept is not exclusive to members of her church.I have heard of Catholics, I've talked to people with the Worldwide Church of God, Messianic Jews ... people in Africa, Australia – so it's not just a localized thing, she said.Regarding the ladies' attempt to cash in on the million-dollar challenge from 2001, WND contacted Marcussen who said:The offer was to anyone who could give one Bible verse showing that God commands us to keep holy the first day of the week [Sunday] instead of the seventh day [Saturday]. ...So I read the letter that you received, looking for the required Bible verse. I couldn't find it. Why not? Because it's not there. ...Both ministers and people have responded, seeking to show the desired change of God's holy Sabbath from the seventh to the first day of the week. They say many nice things, but Scripture proof is always lacking.Regarding the assertion the true calendar does not have a continuous weekly cycle, Marcussen said, Any society that tried to carry on their schools, church or business without a continuous weekly cycle would be in utter chaos. The poor people would get so confused that they wouldn't know what to do.He cited 1 Corinthians 14:33 which states, God is not the author of confusion.

He pointed out that the seventh-day Sabbath being Saturday has so permeated the cultures of the world for so long that many languages have the exact same word for both. In Greek, it is sabbaton; Italian, sabato; Spanish, sábado; Russian, subbota; Polish, sobota; and Hungarian, szómbat. Even the French samedi is from the Latin Sambata dies, for day of the Sabbath.Marcussen added: The challenge will continue, but society is now in such a state that I will ask for people to use either the Authorized King James Version of the Bible, or the New King James Version, lest someone try to get the money by writing a book with the desired statement in it, and call their book, The Bible. When asked how many people share the lunar Sabbath belief, Vornholt-Jones said there's no way to be certain. No one has ever even tried to find out how many there are as the focus has always been on the truth itself, rather than how many adhere to that truth, she said. But floating the Sabbath day from month to month does have ramifications. For me, it has not been difficult in the least, because I am self-employed, and do not have children in school, said French. My husband, however, is not with me in this; but I see the spirit of [God] working with him as he is studying his Bible as never before.

EU seeks fasttrack August 23, 2008

The European Union has expressed interest in negotiating with Thailand, Singapore and Brunei for fasttrack bilateral deals under the framework of the proposed AseanEU FreeTrade Agreement. The idea reflects the different stages of development among Asean members, with the EU hoping to move forward in talks with individual countries that are ready to enter negotiations. This follows four rounds of talks between the two trade blocs in which little progress has been made.Commerce Minister Chaiya Sasomsap said after meeting yesterday with the EU delegation that there were strong intentions to start FTA negotiations with Thailand. We foresee a good opportunity to liberalise trade with the EU, said Chaiya, adding that Thailand would shortly set up a special team to negotiate with EU officials. The EU has urged Thailand to wrap up negotiations on a fasttrack agreement within two years.EU Ambassador Friedrich Hamburger is optimistic that the potential FTA with the Kingdom can cover trade, services and investment. We hope to make progress [on a wider deal] in the next round of AseanEU negotiations, he said. The next session of AseanEU FTA talks will be held in Hanoi from October 1517. EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson is expected to participate. The European Union is also planning to set up an EU Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, due to a rise in EU investment here.Meanwhile, Munenori Yamada, the newly appointed president of the Bangkok office of the Japan External Trade Organisation, yesterday met Chaiya to discuss plans to invest in the Thai energy sector.

More listeriosis cases expected; Maple Leaf Foods expands recall
Sun Aug 24, 8:24 PM

The number of suspected and confirmed cases of listeriosis is expected to increase in the coming weeks because of the bacterium's long incubation period, Canada's health minister said Sunday evening. So far, there are 21 confirmed cases of listeriosis from food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, and 30 cases remain under investigation, Health Minister Tony Clement said at a news conference in Ottawa.Symptoms of listeriosis, which include vomiting, nausea and diarrhea, occur up to 70 days after contaminated food is consumed, with the average incubation period of 30 days, public health officials said.So we expect both the number of suspected cases and the number of confirmed cases will increase as the investigation continues and samples continue to be received from provincial, territorial and federal partners, Clement said. The outbreak has been linked to four deaths out of the 21 confirmed cases in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Three deaths were in Ontario and one was in B.C.Clement made his comments a day after government lab tests concluded that the bacteria strain linked to the listeria outbreak matched the one in some food products recalled last week by Maple Leaf Foods. The establishment of the link prompted the company to immediately expand its voluntary recall to include all the foods produced at its Toronto plant, one of the country's largest food recalls.Company president and chief executive Michael McCain said Sunday at a news conference in Toronto that the expanded recall at the Bartor Road facility was a precautionary measure and that no trace of the listeria strain had been found in any products beyond the ones that were recalled earlier this month.

We had to take the most conservative approach possible ... and recalled 100 per cent of the production from the entire facility, said McCain, whose company also paid to air public service announcements on television to warn Canadians. He said that the recall will cost the company about $20 million, about 10 times more than originally estimated, and that efforts to sanitize the Toronto plant, which is expected to reopen Tuesday, have gone well. Public health officials said they will monitor and test any products that are produced from the reopened plant before they're allowed to go on store shelves. On Saturday night, Canadian public health officials disclosed that lab tests conducted by Health Canada showed the link between the potentially-deadly bacterial outbreak and two recalled meat products from Maple Leaf Foods. We had two products that tested positive for the outbreak strain, including Maple Leaf Foods roast beef deli slices and corn beef deli slices, said Dr. Jeff Farber, director of Health Canada's bureau of microbial hazards.Test results for a third product were a close match to the outbreak strain, but showed a slight variance.

While these results are highly significant, and indicate that the investigation is on the right path, the investigation is not complete, the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a news release. Test results on additional food samples expected next week will advance the investigation further. The results are good news because they confirm that health officials are looking in the right places for the cause of the outbreak, officials of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in Ottawa. We're very confident that we're on the right path, said Garfield Balsan, a food safety and recall specialist with CFIA.Trying to pinpoint the source of the microorganism has been difficult because it's so widespread and commonly found in the environment, such as in soil and in water, said Dr. Mark Raizenne, director general of Public Health Agency of Canada's centre for food-borne, environmental and zoonotic infectious diseases. That explains why public health and company officials have been saying it's unlikely the source of the contamination will ever be found. There are 60 to 70 cases of listeriosis each year, public health officials said.Maple Leaf Foods said Sunday it expects the additional recall affecting 220 products to be implemented swiftly. A list of specific products and codes is available on its website and on Canadian Food Inspection Agency's website. CFIA officials said they will make sure that all the products will be removed from the marketplace through checks, Balsan said.Tragically, our products have been linked to illness and loss of life. To those people who are ill, and to the families who have lost loved ones, I offer my deepest and sincerest sympathies, McCain said Saturday. Words cannot begin to express our sadness for their pain.People most at risk include newborns, the elderly, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems, public health officials said. The public should wash their produce and avoid unpasteurized milk and dairy products, they advised.

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.

Russian military slams NATO's Black Sea presence Sat, 23 Aug 2008 10:21:53 GMT Author : DPA

Moscow - The Russian military Saturday criticized the presence of NATO naval vessels in the Black Sea given the current conflict in Georgia. NATO is enhancing its military presence on the Black Sea under the pretext of providing humanitarian aid, Deputy Chief of Staff Anatoly Nogovitsyn said, according to a report by the Interfax news agency. This does not contribute to stability in the region, the colonel general added. The US destroyer USS McFaul is currently on its way to Georgia carrying aid supplies, passing the Bosphorus on Friday evening, accompanied by a Polish naval vessel. Two more US naval vessels are scheduled to pass the straits off Istanbul headed for the Georgian coast in the coming days. Several other NATO naval vessels passed the straits into the Black Sea on Thursday on their way to a naval exercise off the coasts of NATO members Bulgaria and Romania in the western part of the sea. According to NATO, the exercise was planned more than a year ago.

Moscow against any new anti-Iran resolution: envoy Tehran, Aug 23, IRNA
Iran-Russia-Resolution

Russian Ambassador to Tehran Alexander Sadovnikov said on Saturday that Moscow has never sought any new resolution against Iran's peaceful nuclear program. Talking to IRNA, he expressed the hope that Iran's all-out cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency would help find a logical and realistic solution to the issue.

On the Caspian Sea issues, the ambassador said Iran and Russia share identical views regarding the affairs related to the Caucasus region, including those of the Caspian Sea. Moscow believes that Tehran plays a key role in improving the regional stability and security, he said. Washington is trying to infiltrate into the Caucasus and Caspian regions by branding Moscow as a threat to regional interest, he said, reiterating that Russia has always been interested in establishing peace and security in the region. Moscow will never ignore its regional and national interest, he said, noting that Iran and Russia share common views regarding the issue and respect each other's interest and rights. Russia is against military presence of any non-regional state in the Caspian Sea, he said, stressing that NATO and the West are attempting to dictate their policies to the regional states and are willing to infiltrate into the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus. On Iran-Russia bilateral relations, Sadovnikov said Moscow is very much interested in further expansion of ties with Tehran, adding that such a cooperation would play a key role in establishing regional security. He underlined the need for Tehran-Moscow close cooperation in combat against contraband, weapons, narcotic drugs and human smuggling. The Russian ambassador reiterated that the regional problems should be solved by the regional states since military presence of any foreign state will tilt the regional balance.

Germany proposes EU Georgia neighbourhood meeting 23 Aug 2008 15:53:40 GMT
Source: Reuters(Recasts with proposed Georgian conference)

BERLIN, Aug 23 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel has proposed that the European Union stage a neighbourhood conference for Georgia which will include bordering states, a government spokesman said on Saturday. This is solely a conference aimed at supporting and strengthening Georgia in economic terms, government spokesman Thomas Steg said. It's not a conference aimed at finding a political solution to the conflict.German weekly magazine Der Spiegel said Merkel's vision was for neighbouring countries like Armenia and Azerbaijan to participate in the conference, but not Russia.A decision about the whether, when and who is entirely the responsibility of the EU presidency, another spokesman said. The proposal had been forwarded to France, which currently holds the six-month rotating presidency of the EU.Georgia has suffered extensive damage to housing and infrastructure since a Russian military intervention earlier this month in response to fighting between Georgian forces and rebels in the breakaway province of South Ossetia. On Saturday, Georgian troops were back in control of the country's main East-West highway after Russian forces pulled back, but Washington condemned the Kremlin for keeping what Moscow describes as peacekeepers in Georgia's heartland. In an earlier statement, spokesman Steg said Russia must immediately withdraw from Georgia and pull its troops back to positions held before the recent outbreak of hostilities.

A harsh world for Russia’s neighbours
Published: August 22 2008 19:25 2008 19:25 FINANCIAL TIMES

The Georgian crisis has shown President Dmitry Medvedev’s Russia for what it is – an aggressive authoritarian power. The slim hope that he might soften the tough line set by his ex-KGB predecessor, Vladimir Putin, is gone. Prime minister Putin is the master and President Medvedev does his bidding. The main foreign policy aim is to restore Russia’s lost superpower status: by recovering its dominance in the ex-Soviet Union, exploiting its role as an energy supplier and boosting its say in world affairs.

Moscow has punished pro-west Tbilisi for trying to join Nato and humiliatingly exposed the limits of the west’s support for allies in the post-Soviet region. It has developed a tool – support for embattled ethnic minorities – which can be used elsewhere. The next target could be pro-west Ukraine’s Crimea, with its ethnic Russian majority and a Russian outpost in the leased naval port of Sevastopol. Even Belarus, the most pro-Moscow ex-Soviet state, is worried. So are Nato’s east European members like Poland, which has quickly signed a US missile defence deal.

The post-1989 opening of the ex-Communist world to western values and interests has suffered a big defeat. But all is not lost. First, the gains made in reducing Russian dominance are huge, with a swathe of new European Union and Nato members. Next, while oil-rich Russia is wealthy, it has deep-seated problems, not least a declining population. Finally, despite Georgia, the world is not yet in a new cold war. There is scope for co-operating with Russia, as well as containing its aggressive intentions. The long list of issues for collaboration ranges from energy to nuclear non-proliferation. But the desire to work with Moscow must be matched by a clear response to Russian aggression. Nato’s mutual defence pledges should be backed by actions, such as building new forward bases in frontline countries, notably the Baltic states, and doing more to promote energy security. But the alliance must take greater care over any further eastward expansion. Until now, the west has forced Russia to accept enlargement, betting (correctly) that Moscow was too weak to respond. Russia has shown that is no longer the case. The west should accept future new members, including Georgia and Ukraine, only if they are really ready to join and if Nato can really defend them. It cannot absorb states with violent internal conflicts (Georgia) or with deep splits over Nato (Ukraine). This must not give Russia a veto over neighbours’ sovereign rights. Nor must it divide the region into spheres of influence. But countries that want to ally with the west will have to work harder to resist Russian pressure. And they can expect less western support than before. That is the painful reality, post Georgia.

Ukraine leader makes NATO bid on Independence Day By Sabina Zawadzki
Sun Aug 24, 8:18 AM ET

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukraine sees joining the NATO alliance as vital to its security, President Viktor Yushchenko said on Sunday in a speech bound to antagonize Russia.

Marking 17 years of Ukrainian independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Yushchenko said Ukraine must also increase its own defenses -- a clear swipe at Russia which unnerved former Soviet republics when it sent troops into Georgia over the breakaway region of South Ossetia. In a congratulatory message to mark the day, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev called on Ukraine not to spoil their historically close ties.Yushchenko's speech to a crowd of thousands in Kiev's Independence Square, site of 2004 street protests that swept him to power, was followed by the first display in years of Ukraine's military hardware.Tanks, armored personnel carriers and missile launchers rolled down the capital's central streets. Military jets flew in formation overhead and the capital shook to the boom of cannon.

We must speed up our work to achieve membership of the European system of security and raise the defense capabilities of the country, Yushchenko said.Only these steps will guarantee our security and the integrity of our borders, he told the crowd, many dressed in traditional Cossack shirts.Yushchenko, who has stepped up his calls for swift NATO membership since Russian forces entered South Ossetia, warned Russia that Ukraine would not tolerate any attempt to divide it.Ukraine condemns any attempts to undermine the current world order and its democratic values. We condemn acts of forceful intervention and aggression, he said.We are well aware of the threats that are emerging more and more acutely in our region.Moscow is angry over Ukraine's, as well as Georgia's, NATO ambitions, seeing the encroachment of the alliance on its borders as a military threat.

PRECIOUS ASSET

Medvedev reminded Ukraine of the strong links between the two countries which reach back a thousand years. Our countries are linked by years of spiritual, cultural and historical ties. I believe the main task now is not to allow this precious asset, which we inherited from past generations, to be wasted, he said in a statement. We need to preserve it and build it up.In April NATO states refused to give Ukraine and Georgia a Membership Action Plan -- the first step towards membership -- but said the two countries would one day join the alliance. NATO countries will revisit the issue in December.Analysts say that Georgia's attempt to retake South Ossetia by force, which prompted Russia's incursion into Georgia, might have harmed Tbilisi's chances of joining the alliance soon.Ukraine backed Georgia in the conflict and was angered when Russia used ships moored in Ukraine Black Sea to land troops in Georgia. Kiev leases the port of Sevastopol to Moscow. Yushchenko tightened the rules of movement for the fleet, stationed in the pro-Russian Crimean region, and for several days there were concerns that there would be a standoff between the two countries as the ships came back. The first boat returned, without incident and to cheering crowds, on Friday. Thousands of pro-Russian supporters welcomed the Moskva flag ship on Saturday. The Moscow Times Issue 3973 News U.S. Envoy Sees Georgia In NATO 25 August 2008

Russia has hastened Georgia's march toward membership in NATO by going to war over its breakaway province of South Ossetia, a senior U.S. diplomat said Saturday.I think what Russia has done now is the strongest catalyst it could have created to get Georgia in NATO, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza, U.S. envoy to the Caucasus, told Ekho Moskvy radio. This is what is going to happen now. Georgia is going to accelerate its march toward NATO and, I hope, to an action plan in December, he said. The 26-member alliance, which already includes the three former Soviet Baltic states, will convene in December to decide whether to grant Georgia a road map to accession, known as a Membership Action Plan.NATO has promised Georgia, which Russia's considers part of its traditional sphere of influence, that it will one day be admitted to the alliance. But opposition from some European member states has prevented it from setting any timeframe.Russia sent its troops into Georgia to defeat an attempt by the country's pro-Western leadership to retake the breakaway province of South Ossetia.Moscow says it acted in its role as a regional peacekeeper to protect South Ossetia, most of whose people have been given Russian passports. But Georgia and its Western allies accuse Russia of going beyond that aim by pushing deep into Georgian territory.Russia has shown exactly why Georgia needs to be in NATO. ... Russia did not lift a finger against the Baltic states once they entered NATO. It would not lift a finger against Ukraine if Ukraine were in NATO. The same goes for Georgia, Bryza told Ekho Moskvy. We need Georgia and Ukraine in NATO to deter these kinds of tragic military adventures on the part of Russia when it feels it has some room to potentially block the accession of these countries to NATO.U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has said there is no plan to accelerate NATO's debate on whether to bring Georgia into the alliance.

Huge train blast as Russia faces new pressure to leave Georgia by Adam Plowright Sun Aug 24, 3:56 AM ET

TBILISI, (AFP) - A fuel train hit a mine and exploded near the stricken Georgian city of Gori on Sunday as Russia faced renewed European Union pressure to make a complete withdrawal from Georgia. The Georgian Interior Ministry said the rail track used by the train had been mined and a huge pall of black smoke could be seen across the Gori region after the huge explosion. The railway was mined and that was the reason for the explosion, Interior Ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili told AFP.The blast was the latest fallout from from the five day conflict between Russia, where its troops held a strategic port, and the Georgian army.Russia withdrew tanks, artillery and hundreds of troops from the heart of Georgia on Friday, saying it had fulfilled all obligations under a French-brokered peace agreement. But Russian troops still control access to the western port of Poti and have established a checkpoint just north of Gori.Acting as chair of the European Union, French President Nicolas Sarkozy telephoned his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday and asked him to withdraw his forces from a key road linking Poti to Senaki in western Georgia.

Sarkozy and Medvedev agreed on the need for an international mechanism in the area south of South Ossetia, a statement from Sarkozy's office said. The Kremlin said it was ready to cooperate with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to monitor a buffer zone near South Ossetia, where fighting broke out this month. But it added that international monitors would not replace Russian troops as a statement from the French presidency asserted.During the telephone conversation between the Russian and French presidents, there was no discussion about replacing Russian peacekeeping troops by an OSCE mission in the buffer zone, said a Kremlin spokesman. The West sees the presence of OSCE monitors as critical to ensuring the success of the ceasefire. The vague six-point peace plan has been interpreted differently by Russia and the West, with Russian claiming it has the right to leave peacekeepers deep inside Georgia.France, Britain, the United States, NATO and other Western powers have demanded Russia pull back further but this has been rejected by Russia.Georgian National Security Council secretary Alexander Lomaia told AFP however that he expected the Russians to withdraw from near Poti on Sunday. There were no changes in the position of Russian peacekeepers overnight but we are expecting that they will withdraw from Poti today, he said.Russian troops poured into Georgia on August 8 to repel a Georgian attempt to regain control of the breakaway region of South Ossetia, which is backed by Moscow. After smashing Georgia's small US-trained army, Russian troops fanned out through Abkhazia, another pro-Moscow breakaway region in the west, and pushed far into Georgian territory.

On Saturday, Russian soldiers backed up by four tanks were still on a bridge on the road heading from Poti to the city of Senaki further east and Batumi to the south, an AFP correspondent reported. Some 500 Georgians expressed outrage over the continued presence of Russian troops in Poti, going up to the post waving Georgian flags and shouting Russians go home!. Two Russian armoured vehicles and lorries on Saturday controlled a checkpoint in the village of Karaleti outside Gori on the main road to the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali. The troops, whose uniform was marked with the insignia of peacekeepers, did not let traffic further north without Russian military accreditation. They had erected concrete roadblocks and fenced off the area with razor-wire. Moscow retains full control of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and says it has the right to establish an buffer zone beyond taking in stretches of the highway linking Tbilisi to Poti. The speedy military victory over Georgia, which is pressing for membership of NATO, stunned Western powers and plunged relations between Russia and the West to their lowest point since the end of the Cold War.

The latest focus of international tension was the Black Sea, where NATO naval exercises are taking place. A US destroyer arrived on Sunday in Georgia with what the Pentagon says are humanitarian aid supplies. With its army humiliated and Russian troops openly shielding the separatists in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgia looks increasingly unlikely to recover its territory. Russia's two houses of parliament meet Monday to discuss appeals from South Ossetia and Abkhazia for recognition of their independence.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.

51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Iran will hit back if Israel attacks: Hezbollah Sun Aug 24, 10:29 AM ET

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israel will be targeted by thousands of rockets if it attacks Iran, a senior official in the Tehran-backed group Hezbollah said on Sunday. There has been speculation that either the United States or Israel could attack Iran's nuclear facilities, although both have said force should be a last recourse in curbing a nuclear program which they suspect aims to build atomic weapons.Iran, which says its nuclear program is peaceful, is the main backer of Hezbollah -- a Lebanese political and military group which fired thousands of missiles into Israel during a 34-day war in 2006.The first shot fired from the Zionist entity towards Iran will be met by a response of 11,000 rockets in the direction of the Zionist entity. This is what military leaders in the Islamic republic have confirmed, said Mohammed Raad, the head of Hezbollah's parliamentary bloc. His remarks were reported by the National News Agency.Hezbollah has not said what it would do in the event of a conflict between Iran and Israel. Analysts count Hezbollah, which shares Iran's Shi'ite Islamist ideology, as a major asset for the Islamic republic in the event of conflict.Tehran has said it will respond severely to any attack. Israel staged an air force exercise in June that triggered speculation about a possible assault on its nuclear sites. Both Hezbollah and Israel have said the group has expanded its missile capability since the 2006 conflict.(Writing by Tom Perry)

Iran says designing new nuclear power plant
Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:30am

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran has chosen the site and started designing a new 360-megawatt nuclear power plant, a senior atomic official said in remarks published on Sunday.

Iran has yet to complete construction of its first nuclear power plant and has previously sent conflicting signals about the state of work on a planned second plant. An Iranian official said this year construction work had already begun. The Islamic Republic is embroiled in a dispute over its nuclear plans, that the West says are to build atomic warheads but which Tehran insists are aimed at generating electricity. We are involved in the design phase of this power station, the deputy head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation, Mohammad Saeedi, said, referring to plans for a second plant to be built in the area of Darkhovin in southwest Iran.Gradually the complementary design phase and its building will begin, Saeedi said of the 360 megawatt (MW) plant, in comments carried by the official IRNA news agency. The site has been chosen and the preparation process is under way, he added. The country's first nuclear power plant, with 1,000 MW capacity, is being built by Russia in the port city of Bushehr. Iran has said it wants to build nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 20,000 MW by 2020.Iranian officials say Iran, which sits on the world's second biggest reserves of gas and oil respectively, wants nuclear energy so it can export more of its hydrocarbons. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which carries out routine inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities, has mentioned the Darkhovin project in previous reports on Iran.

Bushehr power plant has been hit by years of delays. Russia delivered fuel for the plant this year. The head of Russia's nuclear energy agency, Sergei Kiriyenko, is expected to visit Iran in September to discuss a start up date, IRNA reported.Asked about Kiriyenko's visit, Saeedi said: We are negotiating in order to determine the time of his trip to Iran.Iran has been holding several rounds of talks with senior IAEA officials for clarification about intelligence reports that suggested Iran illicitly tried to design atomic bombs. Iran has said it is not the IAEA's job to delve into such allegations.Asked about the talks, Saeedi said: Iran will try to answer the agency's questions within the framework of its commitments. Our ties with the International Atomic Energy Agency are continuing and are on the basis of our legal commitments.(Reporting by Hashem Kalantari, writing by Edmund Blair)

Israel set to release 199 Palestinians as gesture to Abbas Sun Aug 24, 9:04 AM ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel was making preparations on Sunday to free 199 Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture to president Mahmud Abbas ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, prison authorities said. In accordance with the government decision, the prisoner release will be carried out tomorrow (Monday) at 9:30 am (0630 GMT), the Israeli Prison Service said in a statement. The prisoners underwent medical examination, they were interviewed by Red Cross representatives and they will be transferred tomorrow to the Beituniya checkpoint near the West Bank political capital of Ramallah.Palestinians eagerly awaited the release, hoping that the freeing of two long-serving inmates convicted of involvement in deadly attacks against Israelis signalled an easing of Israel's release criteria.Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert approved the latest release of prisoners as a goodwill gesture to Abbas in the context of US-backed peace talks formally relaunched in November at a conference in Annapolis, Maryland. After their release, the prisoners will be taken to Abbas's presidential compound for an official celebration, Ashraf al-Ajrami, the Palestinian minister of prisoner affairs, told reporters in Ramallah. Our reception of the prisoners tomorrow will be like a national wedding, he said.

Those due to be released include two of the longest-serving Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, for whom Israel has made a rare exception to its policy of not freeing those implicated in deadly attacks on its citizens.Said al-Attaba, 56, has been serving a life sentence since 1977 for killing an Israeli woman, and Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Ali, 51, known as Abu Ali Yatta, has been behind bars since 1979 for killing an Israeli student.Abu Ali, a member of Abbas's Fatah party, was elected to parliament in 2006.Ajrami said the decision to release the two men was a small step opening the door to bigger ones and a sign that Israel was easing its criteria for releasing some of the more than 10,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails.Releasing these kinds of prisoners indicates that the criteria Israel used in the past will not endure. This clears the way for other prisoners, he said. The release will coincide with the arrival of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on her 18th visit to the region in two years aimed at brokering a Middle East peace agreement by 2009.The two sides have made little tangible progress on resolving the core issues of the conflict, including final borders and the status of Jerusalem, and the process has been marred by violence and Israeli settlement expansion.

THE NATIONAL RELIGIOUS PARTIES IN ISRAEL ARE TRYING TO COME TOGETHER AS ONE PARTY TO LEAD ISRAEL. I BELIEVE A RELIGOUS PARTY MUST BE IN POWER MYSELF TO GET THE THIRD TEMPLE REBUILT.

Rice to try to bridge Israeli-Palestinian gaps By Avida Landau
Sun Aug 24, 7:12 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice returns to the Middle East on Monday in another effort to bridge gaps holding up an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal that Washington says could still be achieved this year. Few analysts believe Rice, who plans talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and negotiators from both sides, can secure a major breakthrough that would set Palestinians on a fast track to statehood. But many are reluctant to rule out that the two sides could agree to some formal, limited accord that would enable Washington to meet its target of a deal before President George W. Bush leaves office in January.A senior U.S. administration official said on Sunday that Rice, despite recent setbacks in talks, is going to try to push the parties along. It's clear that we're very involved and she wants to see where the parties are, and also wants to know where she can be helpful. If she can be helpful in bridging any gaps, she'll do that, the official said.Efforts to seal a deal have been hampered by violence and the expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.A State Department spokesman said on Friday Washington still believed an agreement could be reached by the end of the year, but there's no attempt by the U.S. government to push the parties beyond where they believe they can go at this point.

PRISONER RELEASE

In what Israel has called a bid to bolster Abbas, who has been weakened by last year's takeover of the Gaza Strip by Hamas Islamists, Israeli authorities plan to release 199 Palestinian prisoners, many of them members of his Fatah faction, on Monday. The U.S. official said the talks should not be affected by Olmert's impending resignation in a corruption scandal.Olmert has said he will step down after his Kadima party's leadership election on September 17, but he could stay on for months as caretaker prime minister until a new government is formed. This process is bigger than any individual. Olmert is prime minister and we're working with him. But peace in the Middle East is something that everyone has an interest in, the U.S. official said. With Israeli politics in flux ahead of the Kadima vote and predictions of a general election as early as November, at least one key Israeli player in the peace process has been cautioning against any rush towards an agreement.Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Israel's chief negotiator and a possible successor to Olmert, said last week the international community must not pressure the sides to reach an accord by year's end. She said papering over differences would only stir discontent and might reignite a Palestinian uprising.(Additional reporting by Susan Cornwell in Washington)(Editing by Robert Hart)

Israel To Free Palestinian Prisoners As Rice Arrives AUG 24,08

JERUSALEM (AFP)--Israel was to free 199 Palestinian prisoners Monday in a goodwill gesture to president Mahmoud Abbas as U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was due in the region to give a push to U.S.-backed peace talks. The release was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. (0630 GMT), just hours before Rice's arrival on her 18th visit in two years.Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert proposed the release earlier this month, saying it would bolster the Western-backed Abbas, whom he has met on a roughly fortnightly basis since the talks were formally relaunched in November.

Prison authorities said Sunday the prisoners had undergone routine medical examinations, met with Red Cross representatives and would be freed at the Beituniya check point near the West Bank political capital of Ramallah. The prisoners would then be taken to Abbas's presidential compound for an official celebration, according to Ashraf al-Ajrami, the Palestinian minister of prisoner affairs. Our reception of the prisoners tomorrow will be like a national wedding, Ajrami said Sunday. Those due to be released include two of the longest-serving Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, for whom Israel has made a rare exception to its policy of not freeing those implicated in deadly attacks on its citizens.Said al-Attaba, 56, has been serving a life sentence since 1977 for killing an Israeli woman, and Mohammed Ibrahim Abu Ali, 51, known as Abu Ali Yatta, has been imprisoned since 1979 for killing an Israeli reservist.Abu Ali, a member of Abbas's Fatah party, was elected to parliament in 2006.Ajrami said the decision to release the two men was a small step opening the door to bigger ones and a sign that Israel was easing its criteria for releasing some of the more than 10,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails.Releasing these kinds of prisoners indicates that the criteria Israel used in the past will not endure. This clears the way for other prisoners, he said.

The release will coincide with the arrival of Rice in a new bid to push the two sides forward in their stated effort to reach a peace agreement by 2009.The two sides have made little tangible progress on resolving the core issues of the conflict, including final borders, the status of Jerusalem, and the fate of 4.5 million U.N.-registered Palestinian refugees. The process has been marred by violence in and around the Gaza Strip, where the Islamist Hamas movement seized power in June 2007, and Israeli settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank including annexed east Jerusalem.Rice was last in Israel in mid-June, when she strongly criticized the expansion of the Jewish settlements, saying they undermined the peace process. The latest visit will be Rice's first to the region since Olmert announced on July 30 he will be resigning from his post to battle corruption allegations after his centrist Kadima party chooses a new leader in September.Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who has been leading Israel's negotiating team with the Palestinians, is a front-runner to replace him, as is Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz, a former general. But Livni Thursday played down the likelihood of meeting the goal set at an a U.S.-hosted international peace conference last November of getting a peace deal this year. Pastor Attacked, Churches Burned in Wake of Swami's Death AUG 24,08

At least one Gospel for Asia missionary has been attacked, churches and homes have been destroyed and Christians are fleeing for their lives in India's Orissa state in the wake of the murder of a leading anti-Christian activist leader. A GFA correspondent has reported that as night fell Sunday on Orissa, the roads are being blocked by felling trees, and attacks on Christians have started.Last Christmas, during similar attacks, the anti-Christian militants also blocked off roads into the area of their attacks to hinder the arrival of government forces. Saturday night, Swami Laxmananand Saraswati, a top leader of the VHP (World Hindu Council), was killed in an attack by 20 men, suspected of being Maoist rebels. The Maosts had earlier warned the swami to leave the area. The attack, which included gunfire and a hand grenade, also killed four other people. It took place during a religious celebration. While Maost rebels are the major suspects, Hindu radicals are using the death as an excuse to increase their attacks on Christians in Orissa. The swami was an outspoken critic of tribals and lower caste Indians becoming Christians, and last December, a similar attack on him incited severe attacks that resulted in numerous Christian deaths and dozens of burned churches and caused hundreds of believers to flee for their lives into the jungles.

The swami's ultimate goal was to have India declared a Hindu nation, and to halt the growth of both Christianity and Islam on the subcontinent. The GFA correspondent reported that in the wake of his death, several church buildings are destroyed, Christian houses are torched and Christians under attack. One GFA missionary, Jeebaratna Lima, was attacked while en route to conduct Sunday services. He was attacked by a mob and they were almost setting him on fire but the fire did not catch, reported the correspondent. By God's grace, the police rescued him and have taken custody of him. We are trying to get him released. Local government authorities have posted some police personnel at the local GFA Bible college, and advised the Christians not to venture out.We thank God that the government officials are protecting our campus and our people. said GFA President K.P. Yohannan, That is a true blessing.A late report noted that a mob destroyed one church by hurling bombs and are on rampage to destroy several Christian houses. The condition may be same with other churches all over Orissa. GFA has dozens of missionaries in the district where the attack took place, who work with more than 30 churches and numerous mission stations. The fundamentalist groups have always opposed us, noted one GFA worker, and now there is great tension prevailing, and Christians are running away for their lives.Three leading Hindu groups, the VHP; the radical RSS, which specialized in organizing street gangs, and BJP nationalist political party, have called for a bandh (an illegal strike that uses intimidation to keep everyone indoors) for Monday, and the government has put security forces on high alert.

Having ministered in Orissa, I can only imagine the plight of these tribal believers, forced to run for their lives into the jungle, K.P. said. My heart goes out to the missionaries and believers. We must pray with all earnestness for the suffering church in Orissa at this time.GFA leaders in India have called for earnest prayer for protection of Christians and for harmony and peace among the various communities in Orissa. Specifically, they ask for prayer that:This unfortunate event will not be used to incite communal violence and target innocent Christians.
The life of Christians, pastors and leaders will be protected, as well as the church buildings. That our pastors and believers who have been targeted in the past will be spared. That our state office and Bible college campus and all the students and staff will be safe. That the government will handle the situation ably so that thelife of innocent people will be saved and there will peace and harmony among all the people of the state.

David's Comment: Another Mile-Stone In the Life of the Silver Family
Most of you are aware that our eldest son Stefan and his fiancee, Keren, were married in the hills of Jerusalem on Wednesday evening. Allow me to set the scene for you. It was a glorious ceremony held outdoors in a magnificent garden, with a rock strewn, olive tree lined Samarian hill in the background. The overwhelming scene was back-lit from the west by the yellow fireball of the setting sun as it descended into the Mediterranean Sea. About 240 family and friends filled the beautiful garden area as the bridegroom's party waited under the Huppa ( canopy ) for the bride's party to arrive. Finally the moment arrived and the bride appeared, looking as radiant and stunningly beautiful as only a bride can appear. Tradition Jewish marriage blessings were sung, Stefan & Keren exchanged their vows and the rings, the ceremony coming to its climax with the tradition lifting of the veil and the kiss. The bridal party was led out by the new Mr & Mrs Stefan & Keren Silver, followed by the family and friends, and the wedding moved onto the celebration meal.

As I pondered what I would say in my speech the word mile-stone came to me very strongly. Preparations for our first born son's wedding day was definately a mile-stone in our lives. We all have these mile-stones that stake out the path of our lives. The first mile-stone must be the day of our entry into this world. The next mile-stone may be our first day at school, perhaps followed by our first day at work. For most people the next mile-stone may be the day of our marriage, which if a person's life is in Godly order would be the birth of our children, which of course starts a new path with its own mile-stones ahead of it. All of you reading this article met the God of Israel at some time, placing another mile-stone in your life and changing the course of your life in a dramatic way. Most people live very regular lives, seldom deviating from the path of regularity, usually resulting in a safe but often un-exciting existence. Our family definately has passed some extra mile-stones over the last 20 years. A major one was when Josie & I both came to the Lord more than 20 years ago now. Then 16 years ago, we responded to the call of God to relocate our family to Israel - definately one of our extra mile-stones. The next extra-ordinary mile-stone was the day that Stefan was drafted into the army. Next. probably the most disconserting mile-stone we passed in our entire lives - living through the Second Lebanon War of 2006. As well as having Stefan in the midst of the fighting at the very front lines inside Lebanon, we endured 3 weeks in and out of our bomb shelters taking cover from the 4000 missiles that Hizbollah launched at the northern cities of Israel. By the grace of God we all survived that mile-stone ! I am sure that because we are doing our best to follow the mile-stones that YHVH has laid our before us, His hand has protected us. Stefan and his entire platoon were saved from even light injury, and we all survived the missile attacks.

In a way that only YHVH can orchestrate, the Lebanon war brought the Silver family to this latest mile-stone. During Stefan's time inside Lebanon, the Lord laid him on the heart of a young intercessor who lived in Jerusalem. Her heart felt intercession for Stefan which led to romance, and romance led to engagement leading to the wonderful wedding ceremony of two young Jews who live to love and serve the God of Israel and His Anointed One, that took place on Wednesday. From all reports, all in attendance were totally blessed by the venue, the ceremony and the wedding feast. Not only was the marriage of Stefan & Keren a mile-stone for them and both of the families, it is a sign to all of us who are anxiously awaiting the return of Yeshua to rule over the Kingdom of God on the earth, in the city of the King. I want to invite you to continue to rejoice with the 6 million plus Jewish people who have returned to the land of their forefathers, to live, to love, to work, to raise our children, and to see them marry in such a scene as I have described above. Marriages that take place in the resurrected nation of Israel are surely the greatest sign pointing to the soon return of the King. And proclaim it to all the other people you come in contact with - believers and unbelievers alike. The believers need to get in step with God and co-labour with Him in the restoration of Israel, and the unbelievers need to get right with God, then also get involved in the restoration of Israel.

Jer 33:10-11 Thus says the LORD: Again there shall be heard in this place-- of which you say, It is desolate, without man and without beast-- in the cities of Judah, in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast, the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say: Praise the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for His mercy endures forever-- and of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause the captives of the land to return as at the first,' says the LORD. (NKJ)

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray for our son Jordan, and all of his fellow soldiers in the IDF.

Shabbat Shalom ... David & Josie.

Financial slowdown to drag on AUG 24,08

Charles Bean took over as deputy governor earlier this year .The current global financial slowdown could drag on for some considerable time, the Bank of England's new deputy governor has warned. Charles Bean said the downturn was at least as bad as in the 1970s and that every time the markets began to look better, another grenade exploded. But he said growth should pick up and inflation fall next year, if oil prices and credit markets stabilised. Mr Bean described the crisis as a transitory period that would pass. The deputy governor, who was speaking at the annual conference of the world's top central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, said those at last year's event believed the crisis would have been over by Christmas 2007. We've got our fingers crossed that things will improve. But there is the recognition that there is still a long way to go yet Charles Bean Bank of England deputy governor.

But instead, he said, it had carried on for a year and every time the markets looked like they were stabilising, another grenade exploded as bouts of fear over sustainability hit financial institutions. It looks like it will drag on for some considerable time further yet.He described the mood at the conference as one of considerable caution for the next year. We've got our fingers crossed that things will improve. But there is the recognition that there is still a long way to go yet, he said.

Better regulation

He went on to say the global financial climate was as challenging a time as the 1970s, but said it would be foolish to believe it could be prevented from happening again. However, regulation could be improved to reduce problems when they occur, he said. Mr Bean, who took over as deputy governor earlier this year, also called on people not to place too much significance on the latest UK growth figures, which showed the economy at a standstill. Figures from the Office for National Statistics, released earlier this month, showed no growth from the first quarter of 2008. The deputy governor said he was hopeful growth would begin to pick up again next year and that inflation would also drop back. However, he acknowledged the squeeze on household incomes could create social issues. The most important message, he said, was that the crisis would come to an end. This is just a transitory period of subdued growth and we will get through the other side and the growth will resume to more normal levels.Bank of England governor Mervyn King has already warned that the UK economy is in for a difficult and painful period due to a combination of high inflation and rapidly slowing growth.

WE HAVE A SURE WORD OF PROPHECY (THE BIBLE)

2 PETER 1:19-21
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

ISAIAH 46:9-10
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

2 TIMOTHY 3:16
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

ISAIAH 28:9-11
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

EXODUS 20:3-17 THE 10 COMMANDMENTS KJV
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

05 For many (lots of seducers) shall come in my name saying I am Christ and shall deceive many.(much)
06 And ye shall hear of wars (battle, fight, wars) and rumours of wars see (take heed) that ye be not troubled for all these

Heres the scripture 1 week = 7 yrs Genesis 29:27-29
27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

9:27 And he (THE FUTURE ROMAN PRESIDENT) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,(3RD TEMPLE DESECRATED) and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.(WW3)

AT THE END OF THE 7 YR TREATY AFTER GOD HAS DEALT WITH ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM FOR THE FINAL 70TH WEEK OF DANIELS PROPHECY THE TRUE MESSIAH JESUS THEN RULES FROM JERUSALEM FOREVER.

JESUS RETURNS TO EARTH BODILY TO RULE AND REIGN FROM DAVIDS THRONE FOREVER AND WE COME BACK WITH HIM ON WHITE HORSES.

ACTS 1:9-11
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

ZECHARIAH 14:4
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

REVELATION 19:11-16
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

JUDE 14-16
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

TORAH PORTION FROM AUG 24, 2008 6PM TO AUG 30,2008

DEUTERONOMY 11:26 - 16:17
Verse 26: Look, I place before you today, a blessing and a curse.
Verse 27: The blessing--- that you heed the commandments of Ad-noy, your G-d, that I am commanding you today.
Verse 28: And the curse--- if you do not heed the commandments of Ad-noy, your G-d, and you veer from the course which I command you this day, to follow other gods which you did not know.
Verse 29: When Ad-noy, your G-d, has brought you to the land that you are coming to inherit, you shall place the blessers on Mount Gerizim and the cursers on Mount Eival.
Verse 30: Are they not across the Yardein and far beyond, along the route of the sunset? In the land of the Canaanites who dwell on the Arava Plain, opposite Gilgol, next to the Moreh Plain.
Verse 31: For you shall pass across the Yardein to come to inherit the land that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you; you will inherit it and will dwell in it.
Verse 32: You will guard to fulfill all the statutes and the laws that I am setting before you today.

Chapter 12
Verse 1: These are the statutes and the laws that you will guard to fulfill in the land that Ad-noy, G-d of your forefathers, has given to inherit, all the years that you are alive on the land.
Verse 2: You must obliterate all the places where the nations worshipped, whom you are inheriting, their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every evergreen tree.
Verse 3: You are to break apart their altars, and you are to smash their pillars, and their asherahs are you to burn in fire, and the statues of their gods are you to cut down; and you are to obliterate their name from that place.
Verse 4: Do not act this way to Ad-noy, your G-d.
Verse 5: Rather at the place that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses from all your tribes to set His Presence there, will you seek His Presence and come there.
Verse 6: You are to bring there your burnt-offerings and your sacred-offerings, and your tithes and the elevation of your hands, and your pledges, and your donations, and the firstborn of your cattle and your flocks.
Verse 7: You are to eat there before Ad-noy, your G-d, and you will be happy with the sum of your handiwork, you and your households, as Ad-noy, your G-d, has blessed you.
Verse 8: You may not do everything we do here today, each what is upright in his eyes.
Verse 9: For you will not have come as yet to the peace and to the territory that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you.
Verse 10: When you cross the Yardein and settle in the land that Ad-noy, your G-d, is apportioning to you, and He has granted you peace from all your enemies around, and you will live secure.

Sheini (Second Aliyah)
Verse 11: Let it be that the place where Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses to place His presence therein--- it is there you shall bring all that I am commanding you: your burnt-offerings and your holy-offerings, your tithes and your hand-offerings, and your choice promissory offerings that you pledge to Ad-noy.
Verse 12: You are to rejoice in the presence of Ad-noy, your G-d, you and your sons and your daughters, your male slaves and your female slaves, and the Levite who is in your cities, for he has no portion or territory with you.
Verse 13: Take heed, lest you offer up your burnt-offerings anywhere you envision as proper.
Verse 14: Solely in the place that Ad-noy chooses within one of your tribes, there are you to offer up your burnt-offerings, and there are you to do everything that I am commanding you.
Verse 15: Except with the fullness of your appetite you may slaughter and eat meat in accord with the blessing of Ad-noy, your G-d, that He has given you in all your cities; the ritually unclean and the clean will eat it like the deer and the gazelle.
Verse 16: However, you may not eat the blood; on the earth are you to spill it like water.
Verse 17: You are not permitted to eat in your cities the tithe of your grain and your wine and your olive oil, and the first-born of your cattle and your flocks, and all your pledges that you pledge, and your donations and the terumah-separation of your hand.
Verse 18: Rather, before Ad-noy, your G-d, are you to eat it, in the place that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses--- you and your son and your daughter, and your male slave and your female slave, and the Levite in your cities; and you will be happy in the presence of Ad-noy, your G-d, with the sum of your handiwork.
Verse 19: Watch yourself, lest you forsake the Levite, all your years on your land.
Verse 20: When Ad-noy, your G-d, expands your border as He promised you, and you say, I would like to eat meat because you have an appetite to eat meat; to the full extent of your appetite eat meat.
Verse 21: When the place is distant from you that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses to set His presence there, you may slaughter some of your cattle or your flocks that Ad-noy gave you, as I have commanded you; and you will eat in your cities with all your appetite.
Verse 22: Only, as the dear and the gazelle may be eaten, so may you eat it; the ritually unclean and the clean together may eat it.
Verse 23: Only, exercise strength in not eating the blood, for the blood is the life; and do not eat the spirit with the meat.
Verse 24: Do not eat it; onto the earth are you to spill it like water.
Verse 25: Do not eat it, so that you may enjoy beneficience, and your children after you, when you do the upright in Ad-noy's eyes.
Verse 26: However, your sacred offerings that you will have, and your pledges, you are to bring when you come to the place that Ad-noy chooses.
Verse 27: You are to execute your burnt-offerings---the meat and the blood--- on the altar of Ad-noy, your G-d; and the blood of your peace-offerings will be poured on the altar of Ad-noy, your G-d, then you will eat the meat.
Verse 28: Preserve and heed all these words that I am commanding you, in order that you have it good and your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and that which is upright in the eyes of Ad-noy, your G-d.

Sh'lishi (Third Aliyah)
Verse 29: When Ad-noy, your G-d, will have eliminated the nations whom you are coming there to inherit, from before you; and you inherit them and dwell in their land;
Verse 30: Look out for yourself, lest you are torn apart along with them, after they have been annihilated before you, and lest you inquire about their gods, saying, How did these nations worship their gods, let me do so, too.
Verse 31: Do not do so to Ad-noy, your G-d, because whatever is abominated by G-d, what He hates, they have done for their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in fire to their gods.

Chapter 13
Verse 1: Everything that I am commanding you--- be careful to fulfill it; do not add to it and do not subtract from it.
Verse 2: If a prophet arises among you or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives you an omen or a miracle,
Verse 3: And the omen or the miracle happens--- the one he told you about---saying, Let us go after other gods, that you do not know, and let us serve them.
Verse 4: Do not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer of a dream, because Ad-noy, your G-d, is testing you to know whether you love Ad-noy, your G-d, wholeheartedly and with your entire beings.
Verse 5: After Ad-noy, your G-d, are you to go, fear Him, keep His commandments, heed His voice, serve Him, and cleave to Him.
Verse 6: And that prophet or that dreamer of a dream is to be executed, for he has uttered a fabrication about Ad-noy, your G-d--- Who took you out of the land of Egypt, and Who redeemed you from the house of bondage--- to mislead you from the way that Ad-noy, your G-d, commanded you to go upon, and you will eliminate the evil from within you.
Verse 7: If one shall incite you, your brother--- son of your mother--- or your son or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your neighbor who is your soul mate, clandestinely, saying, Let us go and serve other gods whom you never knew--- neither you nor your forefathers.
Verse 8: From the gods of the nations that surround you, who are near you or at a distance from you, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the earth,
Verse 9: Do not be favorbly inclined towards him, and do not listen to him; and do not view him compassionately, and do not take pity and do not cover for him.
Verse 10: For you must surely execute him. Let your hand strike him first to execute him, and the hand of the entire people afterward.
Verse 11: And you are to stone him with stones so that he dies, for he sought to mislead you from Ad-noy, your G-d, Who took you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
Verse 12: And all of Yisroel will hear and will fear, and they will not proceed to do so evil a thing as this, within you.
Verse 13: If you hear in one of your cities that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you in which to settle, the following:
Verse 14: Men have gone out--- unscrupulous---from among you, and they have misled the inhabitants of their city by saying, Let us go and serve other gods that you do not know.
Verse 15: You must investigate, inquire, and interrogate thoroughly; and if in fact the report is true and accurate--- this abomination was committed among you.
Verse 16: You must surely strike down the inhabitants of that city by the sword; annihilate it and everything that is in it, and its livestock by the sword.
Verse 17: And all its booty are you to collect within its plaza, and you are to burn in fire the city and all its booty---totally--- for Ad-noy, your G-d; and it will be a ruin forever, it is never to be rebuilt.
Verse 18: Let nothing of the cherem cling to your hand; so that Ad-noy withdraws His raising fury and grant you mercy, and He will be merciful toward you and multiply you as He swore to your forefathers
Verse 19: When you heed the voice of Ad-noy, your G-d, to guard all His commandments that I am commanding you today, to do the upright in the eyes of Ad-noy, your G-d.

Revi'i (Fourth Aliyah)
Chapter 14
Verse 1: You are sons to Ad-noy, your G-d; do not lacerate yourselves and do not make yourselves bald between your eyes for a dead person.
Verse 2: For you are a sacred people to Ad-noy, your G-d, and Ad-noy has chosen you to be for Him a treasured people from all the peoples who are on the surface of the earth.
Verse 3: Do not eat any abomination.
Verse 4: These are the animals that you are to eat: the bovine, the sheep and the goat;
Verse 5: The gazelle, the deer and the fallow deer; and the ibex and the adax; and the wild ox and the wild sheep.
Verse 6: And every animal whose sole is cloven, whose hoof is truly split in two, regurgitating [its] cud within the animals, it may you eat.
Verse 7: These, however, do not eat from the regurgitators of cud and from the cloven-soled: the dromedary, the camel, and the hare and the hyrax; for regurgitators of cud are they, but have no cloven sole; they are ritually unclean for you.
Verse 8: Also the pig, because it is cloven-soled but does not [regurgitate its] cud; it is ritually unclean for you. From their flesh do not eat, and do not come in contact with their carcasses.
Verse 9: These are you to eat from whatever is in the water: whatever has fins and scales may you eat.
Verse 10: And whatever does not have fins and scales do not eat; they are ritually unclean for you.
Verse 11: You may eat any pure bird.
Verse 12: And this is what you may not eat: the griffon vulture and the bearded vulture, and the black vulture;
Verse 13: The ra'ah and the ayah, and the kite according to its kind;
Verse 14: And every raven according to its kind;
Verse 15: And the dark desert eagle owl and the kestrel, and the gull, and the sparrow hawk according to its kind;
Verse 16: The dark little owl and the long-eared owl, and the tinshames;
Verse 17: And the light little owl and the Egyptian vulture, and the shalach;
Verse 18: And the stork, and the heron according to its kind, and the duchifas, and the bat.
Verse 19: And all flying creeping creatures are ritually unclean for you; they may not be eaten.
Verse 20: Every ritually clean bird you may eat.
Verse 21: Do not eat any carcass; to the alien in your cities give it and he will eat it or sell it to a non-Jew, for you are a people sanctified to Ad-noy, your G-d; do not cook a kid in its mother's milk.

Chamishi (Fifth Aliyah)
Verse 22: You must surely tithe all the produce of your planting, that your field yields on a yearly basis.
Verse 23: You shall eat in the presence of Ad-noy, your G-d, in the place He chooses to house His presence there--- the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your olive oil, and the firstborn of your cattle and flocks; in order that you learn to fear Ad-noy, your G-d, all the years.
Verse 24: If the journey will be beyond you; if you will be unable to carry it because the place is distant for you where Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses to set His presence there, for Ad-noy, your G-d, has blessed you---
Verse 25: you will substitute coins. You will bundle the coins in your hand, and will go to the place that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses.
Verse 26: You will spend the money for anything you desire--- for cattle, sheep, wine, intoxicating liquor--- and for anything that you wish; and you will eat there in the presence of Ad-noy, your G-d, and will rejoice, you and your household.
Verse 27: And the Levite who is in your city, you must not abandon; since he has no portion or inheritance with you.
Verse 28: At the end of three years, separate all the tithes of your produce of that year and set them aside in your city.
Verse 29: The Levite shall come, for he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the proselyte and the orphan and the widow who are in your city, let them eat their fill;; in order that Ad-noy, your G-d, bless you in all the endeavors that you make.

Shishi (Sixth Aliyah)
Chapter 15
Verse 1: At the end of seven years, you are to make shemitah.
Verse 2: And this is the statement of shemitah: suspend every creditor's hand from his loan to his neighbor; he will not claim [it] from his neighbor or his brother because it was proclaimed shemitah to Ad-noy.
Verse 3: You should demand payment from the stranger, but what you have with your brother your hand will relinquish.
Verse 4: End it [poverty], so that there will be no one, destitute among you when Ad-noy will surely bless you in the land that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you as territory to inherit.
Verse 5: Only if you will listen to the voice of Ad-noy, your G-d, to guard to fulfill this entire mitzvah that I am commanding you today.
Verse 6: When Ad-noy, your G-d, blesses you just as He told you, you will grant loans to nations but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but over you they will not rule.
Verse 7: If there should be someone destitute in your midst among one of your brothers in one of your cities, in your land that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you; do not harden your heart and do not close your hand against your destitute brother.
Verse 8: Rather, you must surely open your hand generously to him, and you must surely extend a loan to him to cover the wants which he lacks.
Verse 9: Look out for yourself lest there be an evil thought in your mind, saying, The seventh year is approaching, the shemitah year, and you will look askance at your destitute brother and will not give him; and if he cries out concerning you to Ad-noy, you will be regarded as sinful.
Verse 10: You must surely give him, and let your heart not hurt when you give him; for, as a consequence of this thing, Ad-noy, your G-d, will bless you in all your work and in all your commerce.
Verse 11: For the destitute will not cease to exist within the land; therefore I am commanding you saying, Open your hand generously to your brother, to your indigent, and to your destitute in your land.
Verse 12: If your brother-Jew or Jewess is sold to you and he serves you six years; then in the seventh year you are to send him free from you.
Verse 13: When you send him free from you, do not send him away empty-handed.
Verse 14: You must surely present him with a severance bonus from your flocks, and from your threshing area, and your wine cellar, whatever Ad-noy, your G-d, has blessed you with are you to give him.
Verse 15: Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt and Ad-noy, your G-d, redeemed you; that is why I am commanding you this matter today.
Verse 16: Should he say to you, I am not leaving you; because he loves you and your household, for he has it good with you.
Verse 17: Take the awl and put it through his ear and the door, and he will become your perpetual slave. And do the same to your maid-servant as well.
Verse 18: Let it not seem difficult to you when you send him free from you, for double the profit produced by the wage earner has he worked for you six years; and Ad-noy, your G-d, will bless you in everything you do.

Shevi'i (Seventh Aliyah)
Verse 19: Every firstborn that is born in your cattle, and in your flocks---a male--you must consecrate to Ad-noy, your G-d; you may not work with your first-born ox, or shear the first-born of your flocks.
Verse 20: Before Ad-noy, your G-d, you must eat it, each year, in the place that Ad-noy chooses, you and your household.
Verse 21: And if it has a blemish--- if it is crippled or blind--- or has any severe blemish, do not slaughter it to Ad-noy, your G-d.
Verse 22: In your cities may you eat it; the ritually unclean and the clean together, like the deer and the gazelle.
Verse 23: Only, do not eat its blood; spill it like water on the ground.

Chapter 16
Verse 1: Take heed of the month of spring, when you will celebrate Pesach for Ad-noy your G-d; for in the month of spring Ad-noy, your G-d, took you out from Egypt at night.
Verse 2: You shall slaughter the pesach-offering to Ad-noy, your G-d, flocks of ruminants and cattle in the place that Ad-noy chooses to house His Presence there.
Verse 3: Do not eat chometz on it; seven days are you to eat on it matzos, bread of anguish; since in haste you left the land of Egypt, so that you remember the day of your exodus from the land of Egypt all the days of your life.
Verse 4: And no sourdough of yours may be seen in all of your boundary seven days; and none of the flesh may remain overnight which you slaughtered towards the evening of the first day---until morning.
Verse 5: You are forbidden to slaughter the pesach in any of your cities that Ad-noy, your G-d, is giving you.
Verse 6: Solely in the place that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses to house His Presence, there will you slaughter the pesach towards the afternoon, at sunset, at the time you left Egypt.
Verse 7: You shall cook [it] and eat [it] in the place that Ad-noy, your G-d, chooses; and you may depart in the morning and go to your residence.
Verse 8: For six days you shall eat matzos, and on the seventh day, is one of withdrawal for the sake of Ad-noy, your G-d, do not do work.

PROPHETS PORTION

ISAIAH 54:11 - 55:5
11 O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours, and lay thy foundations with sapphires.
12 And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.
13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.
15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.
17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

ISAIAH 55:1-5
1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.
5 Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION

1 CORINTHIANS 5:9-13
9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

1 JOHN 4:1-6
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

TORAH PORTION FROM AUG 17, 2008 6PM TO AUG 23,2008

DEUTERONOMY 7:12 - 11:25

1st Portion
Chapter 7
12. And it will be, because you will heed these ordinances and keep them and perform, that the Lord, your God, will keep for you the covenant and the kindness that He swore to your forefathers.
13. And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your soil, your grain, your wine, and your oil, the offspring of your cattle and the choice of your flocks, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give you.
14. You shall be blessed above all peoples: There will be no sterile male or barren female among you or among your livestock.
15. And the Lord will remove from you all illness, and all of the evil diseases of Egypt which you knew, He will not set upon you, but He will lay them upon all your enemies.
16. And you shall consume all the peoples which the Lord your God gives you; you shall not spare them, nor shall you worship their gods, for that will be a snare for you.
17. Will you say to yourself, These nations are more numerous than I; how will I be able to drive them out? 18. You shall not fear them. You shall surely remember what the Lord, your God, did to Pharaoh and to all of Egypt:
19. The great trials that your eyes saw, the signs, the wonders, the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm with which the Lord, your God, brought you out. So will the Lord, Your God, do to all the peoples you fear.
20. And also the tzir'ah, the Lord, your God, will incite against them, until the survivors and those who hide from you perish.
21. You shall not be terrified of them, for the Lord, your God, Who is in your midst, is a great and awesome God.
22. And the Lord, your God, will drive out those nations from before you, little by little. You will not be able to destroy them quickly, lest the beasts of the field outnumber you.
23. But the Lord, your God, will deliver them to you, and He will confound them with great confusion, until they are destroyed.
24. And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from beneath the heavens; no man will be able to stand up before you, until you have destroyed them.
25. The graven images of their gods you will burn with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is upon them and take it for yourself, lest you be ensnared by it, for it is an abomination to the Lord, your God.
26. Nor should you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be are to be destroyed like it, but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is to be destroyed.

Chapter 8
1. Every commandment that I command you this day you shall keep to do, that you may live and multiply, and come and possess the land that the Lord swore to your forefathers.
2. And you shall remember the entire way on which the Lord, your God, led you these forty years in the desert, in order to afflict you to test you, to know what is in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.
3. And He afflicted you and let you go hungry, and then fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your forefathers know, so that He would make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but rather by, whatever comes forth from the mouth of the Lord does man live.
4. Your clothing did not wear out upon you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.
5. You shall know in your heart, that just as a man chastises his son, so does the Lord, your God, chastise you.
6. And you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to go in His ways, and to fear Him.
7. For the Lord your God is bringing you to a good land, a land with brooks of water, fountains and depths, that emerge in valleys and mountains,
8. a land of wheat and barley, vines and figs and pomegranates, a land of oil producing olives and honey,
9. a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, you will lack nothing in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose mountains you will hew copper.
10. And you will eat and be sated, and you shall bless the Lord, your God, for the good land He has given you.

2nd Portion
Chapter 8
11. Beware that you do not forget the Lord, your God, by not keeping His commandments, His ordinances, and His statutes, which I command you this day,
12. lest you eat and be sated, and build good houses and dwell therein,
13. and your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and gold increase, and all that you have increases,
14. and your heart grows haughty, and you forget the Lord, your God, Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,
15. Who led you through that great and awesome desert, [in which were] snakes, vipers and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought water for you out of solid rock,
16. Who fed you with manna in the desert, which your forefathers did not know, in order to afflict you and in order to test you, to benefit you in your end,
17. and you will say to yourself, My strength and the might of my hand that has accumulated this wealth for me.
18. But you must remember the Lord your God, for it is He that gives you strength to make wealth, in order to establish His covenant which He swore to your forefathers, as it is this day.
19. And it will be, if you forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, and worship them, and prostrate yourself before them, I bear witness against you this day, that you will surely perish.
20. As the nations that the Lord destroys before you, so will you perish; since you will not obey the Lord your God.

Chapter 9
1. Hear, O Israel: Today, you are crossing the Jordan to come in to possess nations greater and stronger than you, great cities, fortified up to the heavens.
2. A great and tall people, the children of the 'Anakim, whom you know and of whom you have heard said, Who can stand against the children of Anak?
3. You shall know this day, that it is the Lord your God Who passes over before you as a consuming fire He will destroy them, and He will subdue them before you; and you shall drive out them and destroy them quickly, as the Lord spoke to you.

3rd Portion
Chapter 9
4. Do not say to yourself, when the Lord, your God, has repelled them from before you, saying, Because of my righteousness, the Lord has brought me to possess this land, and [that] because of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord drives them out from before you.
5. Not because of your righteousness or because of the honesty of your heart, do you come to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God drives them out from before you, and in order to establish the matter that the Lord swore to your forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6. You shall know that, not because of your righteousness, the Lord, your God, gives you this land to possess it; for you are a stiffnecked people.
7. Remember do not forget, how you angered the Lord, your God, in the desert; from the day that you went out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebelling against the Lord.
8. At Horeb, you angered the Lord, and the Lord was incensed with you to destroy you.
9. When I ascended the mountain to receive the stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water;
10. and the Lord gave me two stone tablets, inscribed by the finger of God, and on them was [inscribed] according to all the words that the Lord spoke with you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly.
11. And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me two stone tablets, the tablets of the covenant.
12. And the Lord said to me, Arise, descend quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have become corrupt; they have quickly deviated from the way which I commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten image.
13. And the Lord spoke to me [further], saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people.
14. Leave Me alone, and I will destroy them and obliterate their name from beneath the heavens, and I will make you into a nation mightier and more numerous than they. 15. So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were on my two hands.
16. And I saw, and behold, you had sinned against the Lord, your God; you had made yourselves a molten calf; you had deviated quickly from the way which the Lord had commanded you.
17. So I grasped the two tablets, cast them out of my two hands, and shattered them before your eyes.
18. And I fell down before the Lord as before, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sins you had committed, by doing evil in the eyes of the Lord to anger Him.
19. For I was frightened of the wrath and the fury that the Lord was angry with you to destroy you, and the Lord hearkened to me also at that time.
20. And with Aaron, the Lord was very furious, to destroy him; so I prayed also for Aaron at that time.
21. And I took your sin the calf, which you had made, and I burned it with fire, and I crushed it, grinding it well, until it was fine dust, and I cast its dust into the brook that descends from the mountain.
22. And at Tav'erah, and at Massah, and at Kivroth Hata'avah, you provoked the Lord to anger.
23. And when the Lord sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land I have given you, you defied the word of the Lord your God, and you did not believe Him, nor did you obey Him.
24. You have been rebelling against the Lord since the day I became acquainted with you.
25. So I fell down before the Lord the forty days and the forty nights that I had fallen down; because the Lord had said to destroy you.
26. And I prayed to the Lord and said, O Lord God, do not destroy Your people and Your inheritance, which You have redeemed in Your greatness, and which You have brought out of Egypt with mighty hand.
27. Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; do not turn to the stubbornness of this people, to their wickedness, or to their sin.
28. Lest [the people of] the land from which you brought us out will say, Because of the Lord's inability to bring them to the land about which He spoke to them, and because of His hatred toward them, He has brought them out to slay them in the desert.
29. But they are Your people and Your inheritance, which You brought out with Your great strength and with Your outstretched arm.

4th Portion
Chapter 10
1. At that time, the Lord said to me, Hew for yourself two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to Me onto the mountain, and make for yourself a wooden ark,
2. And I shall inscribe on the tablets the words that were upon the first tablets which you shattered and you shall place them into the ark.
3. So I made an ark of acacia wood, and I hewed two stone tablets like the first ones, and I ascended the mountain, with the two tablets in my hand.
4. And He inscribed on the tablets, like the first writing, the Ten Commandments, which the Lord had spoken to you on the mountain, from the midst of the fire, on the day of the assembly, and the Lord gave them to me.
5. And I turned and came down from the mountain, and placed the tablets in the ark which I had made, and there they were, as the Lord had commanded me.
6. The children of Israel journeyed from the wells of B'nei Ya'akan to Moserah; there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son served as kohen in his stead.
7. From there, they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Yotvath, a land with streams of water.
8. At that time, the Lord separated the tribe of Levi to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to serve Him, and to bless in His Name, to this day.
9. Therefore, Levi has no portion or inheritance with his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord, your God spoke to him.
10. And I remained on the mountain like the first days forty days and forty nights, and the Lord hearkened to me also at that time; the Lord did not wish to destroy you.
11. And the Lord said to me, Arise, go to lead the travels before the people, so that they may come and possess the land I promised their forefathers to give them.

5th Portion
Chapter 10
12. And now, O Israel, what does the Lord, your God, demand of you? Only to fear the Lord, your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to worship the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul,
13. to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes, which I command you this day, for your good.
14. Behold, to the Lord, your God, belong the heavens and the heavens of the heavens, the earth, and all that is on it.
15. Only your forefathers the Lord desired, to love them, and He chose their seed after them you, out of all peoples, as it is this day.
16. You shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, therefore, and be no more stiffnecked.
17. For the Lord, your God, is God of gods and the Lord of the lords, the great mighty and awesome God, Who will show no favor, nor will He take a bribe.
18. He executes the judgment of the orphan and widow, and He loves the stranger, to give him bread and clothing.
19. You shall love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
20. You shall fear the Lord, your God, worship Him, and cleave to Him and swear by His Name.
21. He is your praise and He is your God, Who did these great and awesome things for you, which your eyes have seen.
22. With seventy souls, Your forefathers descended to Egypt, and now the Lord, your God, has made you as the stars of heaven in abundance.

Chapter 11
1. [Therefore] you shall love the Lord, your God, keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments, all the days.
2. And you shall know this day; that [I speak] not with your children, who did not know and who did not see the chastisement of the Lord, your God, His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm,
3. His signs, and His deeds, which He performed in the midst of Egypt, to Pharaoh, king of Egypt and to his entire land,
4. and what He did to the army of Egypt, to its steeds, and to its chariots, that He caused the waters of the Red Sea to inundate them when they pursued you, and the Lord destroyed them, to this day,
5. and what He did for you in the desert, until you arrived at this place,
6. and what He did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, that the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up and their households and their tents, and all the possessions at their feet, in the midst of all Israel.
7. But your eyes, which have seen all the great work of the Lord, which He did.
8. [Therefore] keep all the commandments that I command you this day, in order that you may be strong and come and possess the land to which you are crossing, to possess it,
9. and in order that you may prolong your days on the land that the Lord swore to your forefathers to give to them and to their seed a land flowing with milk and honey.

6th Portion
Chapter 11
10. For the land to which you are coming to possess is not like the land of Egypt, out of which you came, where you sowed your seed and which you watered by foot, like a vegetable garden.
11. But the land, to which you pass to possess, is a land of mountains and valleys and absorbs water from the rains of heaven,
12. a land the Lord, your God, looks after; the eyes of Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
13. And it will be, if you hearken to My commandments that I command you this day to love the Lord, your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14. I will give the rain of your land at its time, the early rain and the latter rain, and you will gather in your grain, your wine, and your oil.
15. And I will give grass in your field for your livestock, and you will eat and be sated.
16. Beware, lest your heart be misled, and you turn away and worship strange gods and prostrate yourselves before them.
17. And the wrath of the Lord will be kindled against you, and He will close off the heavens, and there will be no rain, and the ground will not give its produce, and you will perish quickly from upon the good land that the Lord gives you.
18. And you shall set these words of Mine upon your heart and upon your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand and they shall be for ornaments between your eyes.
19. And you shall teach them to your sons to speak with them, when you sit in your house and when you walk on the way and when you lie down and when you rise.
20. And you shall inscribe them upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates,
21. in order that your days may increase and the days of your children, on the land which the Lord swore to your forefathers to give them, as the days of heaven above the earth.

7th Portion
Chapter 11
22. For if you keep all these commandments which I command you to do them, to love the Lord, your God, to walk in all His ways, and to cleave to Him,
23. then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will possess nations greater and stronger than you.
24. Every place upon which the soles of your feet will tread, will be yours: from the desert and the Lebanon, from the river, the Euphrates River, and until the western sea, will be your boundary.
25. No man will stand up before you; the Lord your God will cast the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land upon which you tread, as He spoke to you.

PROPHETS PORTION

ISAIAH 49:14 - 51:3
14 But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me.
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
17 Thy children shall make haste; thy destroyers and they that made thee waste shall go forth of thee.
18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thee with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on thee, as a bride doeth.
19 For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away.
20 The children which thou shalt have, after thou hast lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
21 Then shalt thou say in thine heart, Who hath begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? and who hath brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?
22 Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.
23 And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?
25 But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.
26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.

isaiah 50:1-11
1 Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
2 Wherefore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.
3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.
4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
5 The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.
6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
8 He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.
9 Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.
10 Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

ISAIAH 51:1-3
1 Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.
2 Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.
3 For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION

MATTHEW 4:1-11
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

LUKE 4:1-14
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.
4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12 And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

JAMES 5:7-11
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
