UPDATES-DEC 31,14-11:00PM
Reddit small type from indonesia-4:10PM-A vigil has been held in the Indonesian city of Surabaya for the victims of the AirAsia Flight QZ8501 crash. Hundreds of residents and relatives of those on board lit candles and observed a minute's silence for the victims. Flight QZ8501, carrying 162 people from Surabaya to Singapore, disappeared on Sunday.

Improved weather raises hopes that divers can reach suspected AirAsia plane wreck-Reuters-By Fergus Jensen and Wilda Asmarini-dec 31,14-yahoonews
PANGKALAN BUN/SURABAYA, Indonesia (Reuters) - A break in bad weather on Thursday raised hopes that divers would be able to investigate what is believed to be the sunken wreck of an AirAsia jet off Borneo and retrieve the plane's black box that should explain the cause of the crash. The Airbus A320-200, carrying 162 people, fell from the sky while trying to climb above stormy weather early on Sunday, during a flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore. The pilots did not issue a distress signal. So far, at least eight bodies have been recovered from waters near where sonar has detected a large, dark object on the ocean floor, lying just 30-50 meters (100-165 feet) deep. But so far rough seas have prevented divers from investigating it."They will try again this morning," said Siahala Alamsyah, a naval officer involved in the search. He said that on Wednesday night, bad weather had prevented a team of 47 Indonesian Navy divers from even flying out to warships at the crash site. However, the skies over Pangkalan Bun air base near the site cleared on Thursday morning and the seas calmed, raising hopes that the search effort could be stepped up.The plane's black box flight data and cockpit voice recorder should help solve the mystery of the crash. Investigators are working on a theory that it went into aerodynamic stall as the pilot climbed steeply to avoid a storm.Bodies recovered from the Java Sea are being taken in numbered coffins to Surabaya, where relatives of the victims have gathered, for identification. Authorities have been collecting DNA from the relatives to help identify the bodies. Some of the bodies recovered so far have been fully clothed, including a flight attendant still wearing her AirAsia uniform. That could indicate the Airbus was intact when it hit the water and also support the aerodynamic stall theory. Most of the 162 people on board were Indonesians. No survivors have been found.

HUNT FOR "BLACK BOX"

Strong wind and waves hampered the search, and with visibility at less than a kilometer (half a mile), the air operation was called off on Wednesday afternoon.Speaking on Wednesday evening, Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, the head of the search and rescue agency, said the weather was "challenging in the field, with waves up to 5 meters high, wind reaching 40 km per hour (and) heavy rain, especially in the search area."Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his priority was retrieving the bodies.Relatives, many of whom collapsed in grief when they saw the first grim television pictures confirming their fears on Tuesday, held prayers at a crisis center at Surabaya airport.

"UNBELIEVABLY" STEEP CLIMB

The plane was traveling at 32,000 feet (9,753 meters) and had asked to fly at 38,000 feet to avoid bad weather. When air traffic controllers granted permission for a rise to 34,000 feet a few minutes later, they received no response.A source close to the probe into what happened said radar data appeared to show that the aircraft made an "unbelievably" steep climb before it crashed, possibly pushing it beyond the Airbus A320's limits."So far, the numbers taken by the radar are unbelievably high. This rate of climb is very high, too high. It appears to be beyond the performance envelope of the aircraft," he said. The source, who declined to be named, added that more information was needed to come to a firm conclusion.Online discussion among pilots has centered on unconfirmed secondary radar data from Malaysia that suggested the aircraft was climbing at a speed of 353 knots, about 100 knots too slow, and that it might have stalled. The Indonesian captain, a former air force fighter pilot, had 6,100 flying hours under his belt and the plane last underwent maintenance in mid-November, according to the airline, which is 49 percent owned by Malaysia- based budget carrier AirAsia.Three airline disasters involving Malaysian-affiliated carriers in less than a year have dented confidence in the country's aviation industry and spooked travelers.Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went missing in March on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew and has not been found. On July 17, the same airline's Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board. On board Flight QZ8501 were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans, and one person each from Singapore, Malaysia and Britain. The co-pilot was French. The AirAsia group, including affiliates in Thailand, the Philippines and India, had not suffered a crash since its Malaysian budget operations began in 2002.(Additional reporting by Gayatri Suroyo, Kanupriya Kapoor, Michael Taylor and Charlotte Greenfield in JAKARTA/SURABAYA, Jane Wardell in SYDNEY and Anshuman Daga in SINGAPORE; Editing by Mark Bendeich and Ryan Woo)

Bodies from crashed AirAsia plane arrive in Indonesian city-Reuters-By Wilda Asmarini and Fergus Jensen-DEC 31,14-YAHOONEWS

PANGKALAN BUN/SURABAYA, Indonesia (Reuters) - The first two bodies from the AirAsia plane that crashed off the coast of Borneo arrived on Wednesday in the Indonesian city of Surabaya, where relatives have gathered to await news of their loved ones.Rescuers believe they have found the plane on the sea floor off Borneo, after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters near where debris and bodies were found on the surface.Ships and planes had been scouring the Java Sea for Flight QZ8501 since Sunday, when it lost contact during bad weather about 40 minutes into its flight from Surabaya to Singapore.Seven bodies have been recovered from the sea, some fully clothed, which could indicate the Airbus A320-200 was intact when it hit the water. That would support a theory that it suffered an aerodynamic stall.Tatang Zaenudin, an official with Indonesia's search and rescue agency, said earlier that one of the bodies had been found wearing a life jacket. But he later said no victim had been recovered with a life jacket on."We found a body at 8.20 a.m. and a life jacket at 10.32 a.m. so there was a time difference. This is the latest information we have," he told Reuters. Two bodies, in coffins bedecked with flowers and marked 001 and 002, arrived by an air force plane in Surabaya. Most of the 162 people on board were Indonesians. No survivors have been found.

HUNT FOR "BLACK BOX"

Hernanto, of the search and rescue agency in Surabaya, said rescuers believed they had found the plane on the sea bed with a sonar scan in water 30-50 meters (100-165 feet) deep. The black box flight data and cockpit voice recorder have yet to be found.Authorities in Surabaya were making preparations to receive and identify bodies, including arranging 130 ambulances to take victims to a police hospital and collecting DNA from relatives."We are praying it is the plane so the evacuation can be done quickly," Hernanto said.Strong wind and waves hampered the search and with visibility at less than a kilometer (half a mile), the air operation was called off in the afternoon."The weather today was really challenging in the field, with waves up to 5 meters high, wind reaching 40 km per hour (and) heavy rain, especially in the search area," Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo, the head of the search and rescue agency, told reporters in Surabaya. He added that the plane's whereabouts had not yet been confirmed and so the search for it would continue. Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his priority was retrieving the bodies.Relatives, many of whom collapsed in grief when they saw the first grim television pictures confirming their fears on Tuesday, held prayers at a crisis center at Surabaya airport.

Search area expanded in hunt for AirAsia plane-Associated Press-By TRISNADI MARJAN and ROBIN McDOWELL December 30, 2014 12:35 AM-YAHOONEWS
SURABAYA, Indonesia (AP) — With no sign of the missing AirAsia jetliner, dozens of ships and planes on Tuesday joined a widening international effort now covering huge swaths of Indonesian sea and land. A device that can detect underwater signals from the aircraft's black boxes was also on its way, more than two days after Flight 8501 vanished from radar. The United States announced it was sending the USS Sampson destroyer, joining at least 30 ships, 15 aircraft and seven helicopters in the search for the jet carrying 162 people, said Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo.A Chinese frigate was also on the way, while Singapore said it was sending two underwater beacon detectors to try to detect pings from the plane's all-important cockpit voice and flight data recorders. Malaysia, Australia and Thailand also are involved in the search. The plane vanished Sunday halfway into what should have been a two-hour hop from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. Officials saw little reason to believe the flight met anything but a grim fate.Based on the plane's last known coordinates, the aircraft probably crashed into the water and "is at the bottom of the sea," Soelistyo said Monday. It is believed to have crashed into Indonesia's Java Sea, a busy shipping lane where water on average is only 45 meters (150 feet) deep, but broad aerial surveys so far have turned up no firm evidence of the missing Airbus A320-200.On Monday, searchers made various sightings they thought might be related to the plane, but by Tuesday all had been dismissed.Soelistyo said an Indonesian navy ship reached the spot where a military craft reported two oil patches in the Java Sea east of Belitung island. It was not jet fuel, or even oil, but coral."They were just shadows of two wide shapes of coral clusters that when seen from the air looked like oil spills," he said. The search has expanded to include not only the sea but nearby land. As the sun rose Tuesday over Pangkalan Bun on the western part of Kalimantan, two Indonesian helicopters flew over the island looking for any sign of wreckage. Two other copters were hundreds of kilometers east over the smaller islands of Bangka and Belitung."Until now, we have not yet found any signal or indication of the plane's whereabouts," Soelistyo told The Associated Press, adding that fishermen from Belitung island were also helping. The AirAsia pilots had been worried about the weather on Sunday and had sought permission to climb above threatening clouds, but were denied due to heavy air traffic. Minutes later, the jet was gone from the radar without issuing a distress signal.Pilots rely on sophisticated weather-radar systems that include a dashboard display of storms and clouds, as well as reports from other crews, to steer around dangerous weather, and it's unlikely that alone would cause the plane to crash."A lot more information is available to pilots in the cockpit about weather" than ever, said Deborah Hersman, former chairman of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. But the technology has limits and sometimes information about storms "can be a little bit stale."The suspected crash caps an astonishingly tragic year for air travel in Southeast Asia, and Malaysia in particular. Malaysia-based AirAsia's loss comes on top of the mystery surround Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 in March with 239 people aboard, and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July over Ukraine, which killed all 298 passengers and crew.Nearly all the passengers and crew are Indonesians, who are frequent visitors to Singapore, particularly on holidays.Ruth Natalia Puspitasari, who would have turned 26 on Monday, was among them. Her father, Suyanto, sat with his wife, who was puffy-eyed and coughing, near the family crisis center at Surabaya's airport."I don't want to experience the same thing with what happened with Malaysia Airlines," he said as his wife wept. "It could be a long suffering."Few believe this search will be as perplexing as the ongoing one for Flight 370, which remains a mystery. Authorities suspect the plane was deliberately diverted by someone on board and ultimately lost in a remote area of the Indian Ocean that's thousands of feet deep. Flight 8501 vanished over a heavily traveled sea that is relatively shallow, with no sign of foul play. The captain, Iryanto, who like many Indonesians uses a single name, had more than 20,000 flying hours, AirAsia said.People who knew Iryanto recalled that he was an experienced military pilot, flying F-16 fighters before shifting to commercial aviation. His French co-pilot, Remi Plesel, had been in Indonesia three years and loved to fly, his sister, Renee, told France's RTL radio."He told me that things were going well, that he'd had a good Christmas. He was happy. The rains were starting," she said. "The weather was bad."___McDowell reported from Jakarta. Associated Press writers Ali Kotarumalos, Niniek Karmini and Margie Mason in Jakarta, Chris Brummitt in Singapore, Joan Lowy in Austin, Texas, Scott Mayerowitz in New York, David Koenig in Dallas and Lori Hinnant in Paris contributed to this report.

AirAsia victim with life jacket raises new questions about plane's last moments-Reuters-By Fergus Jensen and Gayatri Suroyo-dec 31,14-yahoonews

PANGKALAN BUN/SURABAYA, Indonesia (Reuters) - A body recovered on Wednesday from the crashed AirAsia plane was wearing a life jacket, an Indonesian search and rescue official said, raising new questions about how the disaster unfolded.Rescuers believe they have found the plane on the ocean floor off Borneo, after sonar detected a large, dark object beneath waters near where debris and bodies were found on the surface.Ships and planes had been scouring the Java Sea for Flight QZ8501 since Sunday, when it lost contact during bad weather about 40 minutes into its flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.Seven bodies have been recovered from the sea, some fully clothed, which could indicate the Airbus A320-200 was intact when it hit the water. That would support a theory that it suffered an aerodynamic stall. The fact that one person put on a life jacket suggests those on board had time before the aircraft hit the water, or before it sank. And yet the pilots did not issue a distress signal. The plane disappeared after it asked for permission to fly higher to avoid bad weather."This morning, we recovered a total of four bodies and one of them was wearing a life jacket," Tatang Zaenudin, an official with the search and rescue agency, told Reuters. He declined to speculate on what the find might mean.A pilot who works for a Gulf carrier said the life jacket indicated the cause of the crash was not "catastrophic failure". Instead, the plane could have stalled and then come down, possibly because its instruments iced up and gave the pilots inaccurate readings."There was time. It means the thing didn't just fall out of the sky," said the pilot, who declined to be identified. He said it could take a minute for a plane to come down from 30,000 feet and the pilots could have experienced "tunnel vision ... too overloaded" to send a distress call."The first train of thought when you get into a situation like that is to fly the aircraft."Most of those on board were Indonesians. No survivors have been found.Hernanto, head of the search and rescue agency in Surabaya, said rescuers believed they had found the plane on the sea bed with a sonar scan in water 30-50 meters (100-165 feet) deep. The black box flight data and cockpit voice recorder has yet to be found.Authorities in Surabaya were making preparations to receive and identify bodies, including arranging 130 ambulances to take victims to a police hospital and collecting DNA from relatives."We are praying it is the plane so the evacuation can be done quickly," Hernanto said.Strong wind and waves hampered the search and with visibility at less than a kilometer (half a mile), the air operation was called off in the afternoon."We are all standing by," Dwi Putranto, heading the air force search effort in Pangalan Bun on Borneo, told Reuters."If we want to evacuate bodies from the water, it's too difficult. The waves are huge and it's raining."Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his priority was retrieving the bodies.Relatives, many of whom collapsed in grief when they saw the first grim television pictures confirming their fears on Tuesday, held prayers at a crisis center at Surabaya airport.AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes has described the crash as his "worst nightmare".

EXPERIENCED PILOT

The plane was traveling at 32,000 feet (9,753 meters) and had asked to fly at 38,000 feet. When air traffic controllers granted permission for a rise to 34,000 feet a few minutes later, they received no response.Online discussion among pilots has centered on unconfirmed secondary radar data from Malaysia that suggested the aircraft was climbing at a speed of 353 knots, about 100 knots too slow, and that it might have stalled. Investigators are focusing initially on whether the crew took too long to request permission to climb, or could have ascended on their own initiative earlier, said a source close to the inquiry, adding that poor weather could have played a part as well. The Indonesian captain, a former air force fighter pilot, had 6,100 flying hours under his belt and the plane last underwent maintenance in mid-November, said the airline, which is 49 percent owned by Malaysia-based budget carrier AirAsia.Three airline disasters involving Malaysian-affiliated carriers in less than a year have dented confidence in the country's aviation industry and spooked travelers.Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went missing in March on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew and has not been found. Sonar detects wreckage from AirAsia QZ8501-6 bodies -- 3 men, 3 women -- have been recovered so far-Author: By Jethro Mullen, Josh Levs and Catherine E. Shoichet CNN-Published On: Dec 30 2014 12:12:24 AM CST
Indonesian searchers using sonar equipment have located wreckage from AirAsia Flight QZ8501 at the bottom of the Java Sea, a search and rescue official told CNN on Wednesday. At the moment, they still don't know if it's in one piece or broken up, said the official, Hernato, who goes by one name.
Divers, ships and aircraft began a new search Wednesday in the waters off Indonesia, a day after spotting the first signs of debris from AirAsia Flight QZ8501.The grim discovery of wreckage from the missing plane and several bodies dealt a heartbreaking blow to families whose loved ones were lost.Debris was found 100-200 kilometers (60-120 miles) from the aircraft's last known location over the Java Sea, Indonesia's search and rescue agency said.Six bodies -- three men and three women -- have been recovered so far, Indonesian search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo said Wednesday. One of the females found was wearing a flight attendant's uniform, Soelistyo said. Now search teams are homing in on the area near where the debris was found, looking for bodies and parts of the plane, including its so-called black boxes. Those could help investigators determine what went wrong on the flight, which lost contact with air traffic controllers on Sunday with 162 people aboard.Sonar equipment is searching the bottom of the sea, 40 to 50 meters (131 to 164 feet) below the water's surface, according to SB Supriyadi, the search agency's director of operations.Dozens of ambulances were lined up in the Indonesian city of Surabaya, ready to carry any bodies recovered. The search isn't easy; heavy winds and cloudy weather could affect visibility and make scanning the water more difficult. On Tuesday, searchers spotted a shadow that looked like the plane's "skeleton," Supriyadi said, but strong currents have so far stopped their efforts to locate it again on Wednesday. As families watched a live news conference Tuesday about the discovery of the debris and saw video of a helicopter lowering a diver to what appeared to be a floating body, some people fainted. Stretchers were brought into the room.Family members burst into tears, dabbing their eyes as officials passed out tissues. Some sat with their eyes full of tears, hands covering their mouths or heads buried in their hands. Others had phones jammed against their ears."Everyone became hysterical, especially the mothers. One mother even blacked out," said Maria Endang Wirasmi, whose daughter, son-in-law and two grand children were on the flight. Her husband, Imam Sampurno, said he was relieved the plane had been found." We hope that our children will be saved by a miracle," he said.AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes told reporters he hoped there was "at least some closure" for families."My heart is filled with sadness for all the families involved in QZ 8501," he tweeted. "On behalf of AirAsia my condolences to all. Words cannot express how sorry I am."

Flight 8501 was operated by AirAsia's Indonesian affiliate.Military crew spotted an object's shadow
Soelistyo, the head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, said the debris was discovered when a crew on a military aircraft spotted the shadow of an object that looked like a plane in the water off the coast of Indonesia's Central Kalimantan province on Borneo.Further searching found floating objects believed to be the bodies of passengers, and then what appeared to be an emergency exit of the plane. Officials sent other search teams racing to the area.Several nations are contributing resources to the effort, including the United States. The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Sampson arrived Tuesday. The USS Fort Worth is also being prepared to deploy from Singapore, Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said. It "can be ready to sail in a day or two to get on station and can be there very quickly," he said. The United States is also preparing maritime patrol aircraft that could help, he said. The flight, which was lost Sunday on its way to Singapore, was carrying 155 passengers and seven crew members. The overwhelming majority were Indonesians. There were also citizens of Britain, France, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.Search and rescue teams are diverting all their resources to where the debris is, in the Karimata Strait, about 110 nautical miles southwest of the Indonesian city of Pangkalan Bun, AirAsia said.

Unanswered questions

Fernandes said the focus for now must remain on the recovery effort, and no sweeping changes were planned for the airline, which has 1,000 flights a day. "But rest assured," he said, that once the investigation is done, if "there are things we need to change, that we will change it."The Airbus A320-200 lost contact with air traffic control early Sunday shortly after the pilot requested permission to turn and climb to a higher altitude because of bad weather, according to Indonesian officials.Authorities mounted a huge effort to find the aircraft, mapping out a search zone covering 156,000 square kilometers.Questions remain about why Flight 8501 lost contact with air traffic control and what happened afterward. Some experts have said the aircraft might have experienced an aerodynamic stall because of a lack of speed or from flying at too sharp an angle to get enough lift.Analysts have also suggested the pilots might not have been getting information from onboard systems about the plane's position or that rain or hail from thunderstorms in the area could have damaged the engines. The key to understanding what happened is likely to be contained in the aircraft's flight recorders."Until we get the black boxes, we won't know what's going on with the engines," said Bill Savage, a former pilot with 30 years of experience.

Bad weather hampers search for AirAsia wreckage after debris, bodies found-Reuters-By Wilda Asmarini and Cindy Silviana-DEC 30,14-YAHOONEWS

SURABAYA, Indonesia/JAKARTA (Reuters) - Ships and planes resumed the search for wreckage, bodies and black boxes of a doomed AirAsia plane on Wednesday after Indonesian rescuers found several bodies and debris floating in shallow waters off the coast of Borneo. However, 2-3 meters (6-9 ft) waves and winds prevented divers from searching the crash zone for the sunken remains of Flight QZ8501, which had 162 people on board when it vanished on Sunday about 40 minutes into its flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.Aviation experts believe that, weather permitting, the fuselage may be easily found by divers as the aircraft probably only broke up when it hit the water.Searchers found three bodies on Wednesday morning, including a flight attendant still wearing her AirAsia uniform, bringing the total to six so far, said the head of the search and rescue agency, Fransiskus Bambang Soelistyo.Fully clothed bodies could also indicate the plane was intact when it hit the water and support a theory that the Airbus A320-200 suffered an aerodynamic stall and plunged into the sea."The fact that the debris appears fairly contained suggests the aircraft broke up when it hit the water, rather than in the air," said Neil Hansford, a former pilot and chairman of consultancy firm Strategic Aviation Solutions.Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501 lost contact with air traffic control early on Sunday during bad weather. The plane was carrying mostly Indonesians. No survivors have been found.Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his priority was getting bodies off the bottom of the Karimata Strait in the Java Sea, where rescuers retrieved a plane door and other debris on Tuesday, so victims could be identified."I feel a deep loss over this disaster and pray for the families to be given fortitude and strength," Widodo said in Surabaya on Tuesday after grim images of the scene in the Java Sea were broadcast on television.AirAsia Chief Executive Tony Fernandes has described the crash as his "worst nightmare".Widodo said AirAsia would pay an immediate advance of money to relatives, many of whom collapsed in grief when they saw the television pictures of debris and a body. The United States said its destroyer USS Sampson and combat ship USS Fort Worth were awaiting instructions from the Indonesian search command on the recovery operation. Singapore said it was sending two underwater beacon detectors to try to pick up pings from the black boxes, which contain cockpit voice and flight data recorders.About 30 ships and 21 aircraft from Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the United States have been involved in the search.

NO DISTRESS CALL

The plane, which did not issue a distress signal, disappeared after its pilot failed to get permission to fly higher to avoid bad weather because of heavy air traffic. It was traveling at 32,000 feet (9,753 meters) and had asked to fly at 38,000 feet. When air traffic controllers granted permission for a rise to 34,000 feet a few minutes later, they received no response from the aircraft.Online discussion among pilots has centered on unconfirmed secondary radar data from Malaysia that suggested the aircraft was climbing at a speed of 353 knots, about 100 knots too slow, and that it might have stalled.Investigators are focusing initially on whether the crew took too long to request permission to climb, or could have ascended on their own initiative earlier, said a source close to the inquiry, adding that poor weather could have played a part as well.A Qantas pilot with 25 years of experience flying in the region said the discovery of the debris field relatively close to the last known radar plot of the plane pointed to an aerodynamic stall, most likely due to bad weather. One possibility is that the plane's instruments iced up in a tropical thunderstorm, giving the pilots inaccurate readings. The lack of a distress call indicated the pilots may have realized too late they were in trouble and were too busy struggling to control the aircraft to issue a call, the Qantas pilot said. The Indonesian pilot, a former air force fighter pilot with 6,100 flying hours under his belt, was experienced and the plane last underwent maintenance in mid-November, said the airline, which is 49 percent owned by Malaysia-based budget carrier AirAsia.Three airline disasters involving Malaysian-affiliated carriers in less than a year have dented confidence in the country's aviation industry and spooked travelers across the region.Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 went missing in March on a trip from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew and has not been found. On July 17, the same airline's Flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board. On board Flight QZ8501 were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans, and one person each from Singapore, Malaysia and Britain. The co-pilot was French. The AirAsia group, including affiliates in Thailand, the Philippines and India, had not suffered a crash since its Malaysian budget operations began in 2002.(Additional reporting by Fergus Jensen, Wilda Asmarini, Charlotte Greenfield, Fransiska Nangoy, Cindy Silviana, Kanupriya Kapoor, Michael Taylor, Nilufar Rizki and Siva Govindasamy in JAKARTA/SURABAYA, Al-Zaquan Amer Hamzah and Praveen Menon in KUALA LUMPUR, Saeed Azhar, Rujun Shen and Anshuman Daga in SINGAPORE, Jane Wardell in SYDNEY, Andrew Callus and Tim Hepher in PARIS; Writing by Jane Wardell, Mark Bendeich; Editing by Michael Perry, Robert Birsel)

QZ8501 tragedy rekindles pain for MH370 relatives-AFP | Updated: December 31, 2014-astro awani

QZ8501 tragedy rekindles pain for MH370 relatives-BEIJING: Tearful relatives of those on board missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 said Tuesday their torment has been awakened anew by the AirAsia loss in Indonesia, nine months into their nightmare."It is just like what happened nine months ago when I heard the news of MH370," said Steven Wang, whose 57-year-old mother was on the flight which remains one of the biggest aviation mysteries ever."I can feel the desperation that the next-of-kin are suffering now. It is terrible. It is horrible," he said.Wang emerged as one of the most vociferous campaigners for answers on how MH370 went missing on March 8, one hour into a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. An unofficial leader of hundreds of Chinese relatives who packed into often rowdy meetings with airline officials in the weeks after the disappearance, Wang was a sombre shadow of his former self after months of anguish."Most of the time now we are asking for information, but they say they have nothing," he said, with a dejected, weary tone.Two-thirds of the 239 people on board the missing Boeing 777 are Chinese citizens.A vast multi-national search has failed to find any sign of wreckage of MH370.On Tuesday authorities looking for AirAsia flight QZ8501 -- also owned by a Malaysian airline -- said they had found bodies, the shadow of a plane and debris in the sea off Indonesia.Selamat Omar, whose son Mohamad Khairul Amri Selamat was on MH370, said the news on AirAsia would provide some solace to victims' families."It looks like there could be no survivors after the QZ8501 crashed into the sea. I praise the Indonesian authorities and neighbouring countries for finding the plane in less than 50 hours after the plane vanished," he said."Now the victims' families can console themselves and give the victims a proper burial. The families can now have a closure and have a peace of mind which I am dying for."For other families of MH370, coping with their personal nightmare has filled the days since the plane vanished."Our entire life is a mess now," said Xu Jinghong, whose 65-year-old mother Liu Fengying was one of 153 Chinese passengers who failed to return home."I lost 10 kilogrammes (22 pounds) in weight, I couldn’t sleep well and don’t dare to see photos of my mother or think about her," she added, her voice cracking with emotion.

'Flood of emotion'

The disappearance of QZ8501 off Indonesia on Sunday sparked deep personal reflection on the plight of the relatives of the 162 people on board."I empathise with them because I’ve been there too," Xu said softly. "I want to tell them to take care of themselves."Xu spoke to AFP from her Beijing home as she welcomed another MH370 relative Dai Shuqin, whose younger sister Dai Shulin was on the plane, along with three generations of her family.Dai has channelled her grief into seeking answers from both Malaysia Airlines and the Chinese government over what happened to the jet.She regularly visits a "support centre" which was set up near Beijing airport after Malaysia Airlines stopped paying for families to attend meetings at the Lido Hotel in the city."I still have hope -- always -- as long as there’s no evidence to show that they are dead," said Dai, explaining why she continues her seemingly futile wait for answers."I won’t give up," the 61-year-old added in determined tones, but in a sentence interrupted by tears."I have experienced so much pain and hardship, and I have worked so hard for answers."American Sarah Bajc, whose partner Philip Wood was on MH370, told of the horror she felt learning another jet had vanished, a moment she said to herself: "Oh my God -- it has happened again."Bajc and Wood previously lived in Beijing, but were planning a life together in Kuala Lumpur before the plane's disappearance.Speaking from the Malaysian capital, she likened her emotions on hearing about MH370 with the loss of both the AirAsia jet and MH17, another Malaysia Airlines fight that went down in strife-torn eastern Ukraine in July with 298 people on board."You just instantly start to shake because all that flood of emotion of what we went through on March 8 all comes back," she said."You can't even control it. It's impossible. It is just a physical response.""Then you start thinking what those poor families are going through and you think 'Oh my God' -- nobody has to go through that."Read more at: http://english.astroawani.com/news/show/qz8501-tragedy-rekindles-pain-mh370-relatives-51235?cp

Israel to PA: You Can't Achieve Statehood with Provocations-Israeli UN representative Israel Nitzan urges the Security Council "to stop indulging the Palestinians" after their resolution was rejected.-By Elad Benari-First Publish: 12/31/2014, 2:16 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
The Middle East Adviser for the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations (UN), Israel Nitzan, told the Palestinian Authority (PA) on Tuesday night that statehood cannot be achieved using provocations.Nitzan made a statement to the Security Council shortly after it rejected the PA’s resolution which would have set a deadline for Israel to withdraw from lands the PA considers to be “occupied territory”.“The Palestinians have found every possible opportunity to avoid direct negotiations. They have engaged in a never-ending string of political games and now they are parading into this Council with preposterous unilateral proposals,” he said.“I have news for the Palestinians - you cannot agitate and provoke your way to a state,” continued Nitzan.“I urge the Council to stop indulging the Palestinians and put an end to their march of folly,” he concluded. The unilateral resolution failed to pass the Security Council after only eight countries voted in favor of the resolution, one short of the nine required to pass it. Two countries voted against, and there were five abstentions.France, China and Russia were among the countries that supported the text. Australia and the United States voted against. The resolution failed to pass despite earlier claims by the PA that it had the necessary nine-vote majority to enable it to pass the resolution calling for recognition of a "Palestinian state" as well as an Israeli withdrawal from Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem by the end of 2017.Had the resolution passed, it would have forced the United States - which has stated its firm opposition to such unilateral measures - to use its veto at the Security Council, potentially causing tensions with some of America's Arab allies in the UN.As recently as Monday, PA foreign minister Riyad Al-Maliki had indicated that the vote would be postponed until after the new year, after the vote was put off last Friday and again on Monday. Analysts believed the PA would be better off to wait until after January 1, when the make-up of the Security Council will change and more countries with pro-PA stances become members.

PA's Statehood Resolution Defeated at Security Council-PA's unilateral resolution calling on Israel to "end the occupation" fails to receive the nine required votes to pass.By Elad Benari-First Publish: 12/31/2014, 12:32 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

The United Nations (UN) Security Council failed on Tuesday night to adopt a resolution on Palestinian statehood, AFP reports.Only eight countries voted in favor of the resolution, two voted against, and there were five abstentions. The resolution needed nine votes in its favor to have passed.France, China and Russia were among the countries that supported the text setting a 12-month deadline for negotiations on a final peace deal with Israel, reported AFP.Australia and the United States voted against. The resolution failed to pass despite earlier claims by the Palestinian Authority (PA) that it had the necessary nine-vote majority to enable it to pass the resolution calling for recognition of a "Palestinian state" as well as an Israeli withdrawal from Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem by the end of 2017.Had the resolution passed, it would have forced the United States - which has stated its firm opposition to such unilateral measures - to use its veto at the Security Council, potentially causing tensions with some of America's Arab allies in the UN.As recently as Monday, PA foreign minister Riyad Al-Maliki had indicated that the vote would be postponed until after the new year, after the vote was put off last Friday and again on Monday. Analysts believed the PA would be better off to wait until after January 1, when the make-up of the Security Council will change and more countries with pro-PA stances become members. The United States reiterated on Monday that it does not support the unilateral draft resolution, with State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke saying Washington believes the resolution would not advance the goal of peace or address Israel's security needs."We don't think this resolution is constructive," Rathke told reporters. "We think it sets arbitrary deadlines for reaching a peace agreement and for Israel's withdrawal from the West Bank, and those are more likely to curtail useful negotiations than to bring them to a successful conclusion.”He continued, "Further, we think that the resolution fails to account for Israel's legitimate security needs, and the satisfaction of those needs, of course, integral to a sustainable settlement."

PA Says it Has Majority Needed for UN Statehood Resolution-Reports France, Luxembourg have decided to support PA bid at UNSC; move could force US to use its veto.By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 12/30/2014, 10:32 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
The Palestinian Authority is claiming it has the necessary nine-vote majority to enable it to pass a resolution through the UN Security Council calling for recognition of a "Palestinian state" as well as an Israeli withdrawal from Judea, Samaria and "East Jerusalem".The vote is due to take place tonight (Tuesday) at 10 p.m. GMT, after the PA about-faced on its prior plans to postpone the vote until after the new year.As recently as Monday PA foreign minister Riyad Al-Maliki had indicated that the vote would be postponed until after the new year, after the vote was put off last Friday and again on Monday.iplomatic sources had claimed the resolution would flop due to a lack of support by the council's 15 members. But according to Channel Two, France and Luxembourg have now decided to vote for the resolution, tipping the balance in the PA's favor. If true it would force the US - which has stated its firm opposition to such unilateral measures - to use its veto at the Security council. That move could provoke tensions with some of America's Arab allies in the UN.Earlier Tuesday, US State Department spokesperson Jeff Rathke reiterated the US's opposition to the PA bid, noting "there are a number of countries that have indicated they cannot support this resolution.""Even among countries that are longstanding supporters of the Palestinians and that have indicated they would vote in favor of the resolution, many of them have also acknowledged that it is an unconstructive and poorly-timed resolution," added Rathke.Britain's UN Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant also voiced his country's disapproval of the proposed resolution, telling reporters the UK would notsupport it - but not indicating whether that meant it would use its UNSC veto or simply abstain."There's some difficulties with the text, particularly language on time scales, new language on refugees. So I think we would have some difficulties," he told reporters.Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird - whose country is not a UNSC member - called on the council's member-states to reject the proposal, accusing the PA of attempting to "circumvent negotiations.""Canada fundamentally believes that Palestinian statehood can only be a by-product of negotiations with the State of Israel. We have long rejected unilateral action on either side, as we believe it is ultimately unhelpful to the cause of peace," Bard said in a statement Tuesday."The resolution that was submitted to the United Nations Security Council on December 29 is just another attempt to circumvent negotiations and place preconditions on future discussions," he added. "Canada therefore calls upon members of the UN Security Council to reject this resolution and instead use its influence to urge both sides to sit down without preconditions.""For far too long, Israelis and Palestinians have been at odds. It is time for serious negotiations and concessions from both sides to ensure a future of peace, security and prosperity."

Canadian FM: Palestinians Trying to Circumvent Negotiations-Canada's Foreign Minister John Baird calls on UN Security Council to reject PA resolution calling for imposed Israeli withdrawal.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 12/30/2014, 9:34 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird has joined calls urging the United Nations Security Council to vote down a resolution drafted by the Palestinian Authority calling for an imposed solution on the Arab-Israeli conflict. The UN Security Council will vote later Tuesday on a draft resolution submitted by Jordan on behalf of the PA, demanding recognition as a state and Israeli withdrawals from Judea, Samaria and "East Jerusalem".It is almost certain to be rejected, as both the US and Britain have voiced their opposition to it already.Diplomats said it was unlikely that the resolution - which will be voted on at 10 p.m. GMT - would garner the nine votes necessary for adoption - a scenario that would allow the United States to avoid resorting to its veto power.A US veto risks angering key Arab allies, including partners in the US-led coalition carrying out air strikes against the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq."Canada fundamentally believes that Palestinian statehood can only be a by-product of negotiations with the State of Israel. It is time for serious negotiations and concessions from both sides to ensure a future of peace, security and prosperity."By turning to the UN for unilateral recognition, the PA is effectively in breach of several accords it has signed with Israel in the past.Earlier Tuesday, US State Department spokesperson Jeff Rathke reiterated the US's opposition to the PA bid, noting "there are a number of countries that have indicated they cannot support this resolution.""Even among countries that are longstanding supporters of the Palestinians and that have indicated they would vote in favor of the resolution, many of them have also acknowledged that it is an unconstructive and poorly-timed resolution," added Rathke.Britain's UN Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant also voiced his country's disapproval of the proposed resolution, telling reporters the UK would not support it - but not indicating whether that meant it would use its UNSC veto or simply abstain."There's some difficulties with the text, particularly language on time scales, new language on refugees. So I think we would have some difficulties," he told reporters. The Tuesday vote comes as something of a surprise after PA foreign minister Riyad Al-Maliki indicated on Monday that the vote would be postponed until after the new year, after the vote was put off last Friday and again on Monday. But on Monday, PA envoys drafted a more toughly-worded version of the resolution after meeting Arab ambassadors at UN headquarters for about two hours. The updated text contains new provisions on declaring eastern Jerusalem the capital of a Palestinian state, settling the issue of terrorist prisoner releases and halting Jewish construction in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem. The resolution demands UN recognition of the PA as the "state of Palestine," as well as Israeli withdrawals from eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria by 2017, and prior to that a 12-month deadline for wrapping up negotiations on a final settlement.Russia has said it will support the resolution. Despite Rathke's statements, US Secretary of State John Kerry has not publicly stated that Washington would use its veto against the resolution. However, Kerry's spokeswoman did day the United States will not support the resolution.

Hamas Slams PA Statehood Bid as 'Surrender' to Israel-Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri accuses PA of making decisions for the 'Palestinian cause' without the people's consent.By Dalit Halevy, Tova Dvorin-First Publish: 12/30/2014, 2:14 PM / Last Update: 12/30/2014, 3:00 PM-ISRAEL NATIONAL NEWS

Hamas again criticized the political process of the Palestinian Authority (PA), the center of which is a draft resolution calls for Israel to “end the occupation” - that is, to withdraw from Judea and Samaria - by 2017.Mushir al-Masri, a spokesman for the Change and Reform Party in Hamas and a Hamas leader, called the resolution a "threat" to the "Palestinian problem" and the continuing series of concessions fly a "white flag."Masri accused the Palestinian Authority of "giving in" to Israel and walking through pointless negotiations of a political settlement, without a clear national strategy and adherence to the basic principles of the Palestinian people, in his words. The draft resolution, said Masri, is inconsistent with the underlying positions of the Palestinian people, and those (a hint to the PA) who seek to make decisions separately and independently of the Palestinian people cannot be in a leadership position and must be brought to justice, he said. The resolution has already been criticized by Hamas, whose spokesman said last week the resolution "doesn't represent [the] consensus of the Palestinian people."Several days ago Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar added that the draft resolution in favor of Palestinian statehood was "disastrous," and that it has "no future in the land of Palestine."Zahar explained that Hamas would not accept the resolution because of its focus on the pre-1967 borders, and not on all of Israeli territory which Hamas considers to be “historic Palestine”.He further added that the movement refuses to consider allowing to be Jerusalem a capital for both Palestinian and Israeli states.Tensions between the PA and Hamas are also apparent in light of the visit of Palestinian Authority "Prime Minister" Rami Hamdallah to Gaza, along with a delegation of ministers. Analysts say Hamdallah's visit is to demonstrate the alleged control of the PA government offices in Gaza, and to ensure that border crossings are transferred to unity government control.Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri criticized Hamdallah over the move, noting that the PA has no power to dismiss the workers at the border for operation under its control. The dispute between the parties is concerned solely with the continued payment of salaries to tens of thousands of civil servants appointed by the Hamas government.

Op-Ed: Despite It All, Israel is Here to Stay-Israel is the world's only country which hasn't seen one day of peace since its founding. But it is here to stay.Published: Tuesday, December 30, 2014 8:32 AM-Giulio Meotti-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Judged through a rational, empirical - and European - lens, Israel should have already been obliterated.
Israel is the world's only country which in the last six months has experienced 50 days of war under daily rocket attacks, the kidnapping and killing of three students, the slaughtering of four rabbis, the attempted assassination of its social activists, the daily stabbing and Molotov cocktail attacks in its cities and on its roads. The Israelis do not fear the danger and have fun.Israel's is the world's only country whose water devices are removed from Western buildings. The Harvard University dining services just removed the labels from its SodaStream machines and replaced them with American-made water machines. Israel is the world's only country that has so few friends and so many more enemies, so many people who would shout "eureka!" if Israel would disappear .Israel is the world's only country which can be destroyed in one day of war: a small battery of nuclear-tipped rockets can vanish it entirely.Israel is the world's only country without recognized borders.Israel is the world's only country which hasn't seen one day of peace since its founding. Israel is the world's only country which has 1,000 kilometers of besieged and ghettoized borders.Israel is the world's only country which looks perilous and temporary, a dot on the map and a patch of near-desert.Israel is the world's only country which withdrew from territory won in defensive wars.Israel is the world's only country which has to free hundreds of assassins to see again one of her soldiers.Israel is the world's only country whose books, professors, writers and scientists are banned, boycotted and expelled from Western universities and libraries. The country is open to offensives, with long and absurd borders; it lives in a state of siege, surrounded by dangerous enemies. The Israelis do not fear the danger and have fun. The philharmonic orchestra plays on a kibbutz along the Jordanian-Syrian border, while in Jerusalem they held competitions for young filmmakers.A French journalist called the Israelis a people that does not smile. Perhaps. Perhaps influenced by a long history of Jewish persecution, distant and recent, of collective and personal tragedies that are the very foundation of this nation of refugees. Israel is not, probably, a cheerful country as a whole; but surrounded by enemies, the Israelis demonstrate with facts that smack of not being afraid of the future. The Israeli Jews are engaged in long-term programs; they build for future generations a modern, highly industrialized country, one that is therefore more vulnerable. With the ratio of forces so disproportionate, the fact that the State of Israel continues to exist is a contradiction,  or if you prefer, a permanent miracle. Israel is squeezed between the sea and five hostile nations, eighty times larger and twenty times more populated. The birth, survival and achievements of Israel are in itself a great victory. Israel is a state built from nothing and built, defended, developed against obstacles that the reason judged insurmountable. And Israel, the only democratic nation born from a religious idea, promoted as a refuge for the persecuted, will remain one of the most exciting human adventures. So despite all, Israel will not fall. Following the first exile in 586 B.C. and the second exile in 70 A.D. and 132 A.D., Jews spread throughout Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean Basin, northern and eastern Europe, even unto India and China. The Holocaust closed that noble Jewish adventure in the Diaspora. In the last century, Jews began returning to their land and rebuilt the third Jewish commonwealth. This will not fall. It cannot fall. It must not fall. Jews wouldn't survive to another exile. And a world without Jews would be a meaningless world. The people of Israel will live. The Land of Israel will thrive. Israel is here to stay.

Tensions remain after New York City mayor meets police unions-Reuters-By Jonathan Allen and Sebastien Malo-DEC 31,14-YAHOONEWS

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Police union leaders said their grievances with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio remained unresolved after meeting with him on Tuesday, 10 days after they said he was partly to blame for a gunman's deadly attack on two policemen. The meeting came after a marked drop in arrests across the city last week. One city newspaper said the decline was evidence of a "virtual work stoppage", but city officials were unable to say on Tuesday whether or not a police slowdown was under way.De Blasio, whose turbulent relationship with his police department has become the gravest crisis of his year-old mayoralty, had called the meeting to "foster constructive and responsible dialogue," his press secretary, Phil Walzak, wrote in an e-mail.Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, who a week ago said there was "blood on the hands" of the mayor for the policemen's deaths, said the meeting had resolved nothing."Our thought here today is that actions speak louder than words and time will tell," Lynch said in brief remarks to reporters outside the Police Academy building in Queens as leaders from the four other main police unions stood alongside him.The mayor has angered police by saying he understands some of the concerns of protesters who have vilified the police as being hostile to black citizens at rallies in New York City and beyond. Although he has made recent speeches filled with warm superlatives about the New York Police Department, de Blasio has also said he has often warned his biracial, teenage son about the "dangers" of police encounters. Some police officers have taken to turning their backs on the mayor at public events in unusual displays of hostility since the two policemen were killed. There was a marked decline in arrests and court summonses in the last week, according to statistics released by police on Tuesday. Police said they made 1,820 arrests last week, compared with 5,370 arrests for the same week a year ago, a 66 percent drop. The number of court summonses issued for minor crimes dropped 94 percent to 300 last week, from 4,831 over the same week in 2013, police said.In two Brooklyn police precincts, the number of summonses and traffic tickets given out dropped from 626 in the week before the officers were killed to just one the following week, the New York Daily News reported. The New York Post said officers in the nation's largest police department had begun a work slowdown in protest and out of fear for their safety.City Hall and police press officials declined to answer questions on whether this was the case.Walzak, the mayor's press secretary, later released a brief statement saying the meeting had "focused on building a productive dialogue" but gave no specific details.Frayed relations reached a new low on Saturday, Dec. 27, when a black man fatally shot two policemen, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn. The shooter wrote online that he wanted to kill police officers as retribution for the deaths of unarmed black men by police, and killed himself soon after the attack.Police Commissioner William Bratton, who joined Tuesday's meeting, has attributed some of the tension with police to unresolved negotiations on new labor contracts.Asked about the reports of a work slowdown, Albert O'Leary, spokesman for the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, said: "I don't know anything about that," adding that no such instructions had come from the union. The mayor has declined to take questions from reporters for more than a week while, his office says, he focuses on trying to "bring our city together."(Reporting by Jonathan Allen; Editing by Dan Grebler and Andrew Hay)

Police identify man responsible for Edmonton mass murder-Edmonton Journal-msn news-dec 31,14

EDMONTON - Investigators have identified the man who killed eight people in Edmonton this week as 53-year-old Phu Lam, sources tell the Edmonton Journal.Lam is the co-owner of the north Edmonton home where seven of the victims — including two young children — were found dead early Tuesday morning. Another victim was found shot to death in a home in south Edmonton late Monday night, Lam was discovered dead in a restaurant in the neighbouring community of Fort Saskatchewan early Tuesday. Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht has said the attack was “planned, deliberate and targeted.”“In my 39 years of policing, I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said.At both the north and south Edmonton homes, memorials are springing up, as neighbours and concerned citizens leave flowers and stuffed animals to commemorate the victims of what is the worst mass murder in the city’s history.Knect has stressed the public is not in danger. “These events do not appear to be gang-related, but rather tragic incidents of domestic violence.”The series of events began at 6:52 p.m. Monday when police were called to a residence in the Haddow neighbourhood in south Edmonton where they say a man entered the home, and shot and killed a woman with a 9-mm handgun, before fleeing. At the time, police said the death occurred in a “family setting.”Late Tuesday, police identified the woman as Cyndi Duong, 37. An autopsy confirmed she died of a gunshot wound.Neighbours say Duong and her husband, David Luu, had three children ages six to 13. A grandmother also lived at the house — government documents list a 59-year-old woman, Huong Lam, as a resident at the home.On Wednesday morning, a small memorial with a red heart, pink flowers and a handful of candles was outside the home on Haswell Court. Four cars were parked outside the home, and the man who answered the door would not comment on the deaths. Two women later came out of the house with the man, loaded the trunks of the cars with belongings and drove away. Most neighbours said they didn’t know the family and didn’t didn’t see or hear anything unusual on Monday night. It’s unclear what ties the family to the gruesome homicide scene in north Edmonton. But it seems someone at the house recognized the shooter Monday night because at that time, police said they had information on the suspect but he was not in custody.Later that night, police responded to a home in the Klarvatten neighbourhood in north Edmonton after a man’s family had reported he was depressed, overly emotional and potentially suicidal.Edmonton police initially said they went to the home around 8:30 p.m., but late Tuesday night they revised that time to 9:44 p.m.Police walked around the exterior of the home and peered in windows and found nothing suspicious. Nobody answered the door and there was no trace of the man, so officers left. Before entering the home, police needed “reasonable and probable grounds” to do so, and did not have them at that time, Knecht said. They returned just after midnight after receiving further information from a “second individual,” the chief said, although he would not elaborate on the nature of the information or who the person was.At that time, police found the bodies of seven people inside: three women, two men, and a boy and a girl.Police say the adults are all aged 25-50, and the children both younger than 10. Knecht could not say what time they had been killed.Land title documents show the home is owned by Phu Lam and Thuy-Tien “Tien” Truong. Neighbours say a couple lived in the home with two children, a boy around age eight and a toddler, as well as an elderly woman.Elvis, the eldest child, was a favourite in the neighbourhood. One neighbour helped him take the training wheels off his bike, while another said Elvis played with all the kids on the block and was in Grade 3 with her son.Police have not officially confirmed the suspect’s identity, but sources tell the Journal that it is Lam.On Tuesday, Knecht said the suspect, who lived at the Klarvatten home, said he has a history of violence and drug-related crimes dating back to 1987. Officers responded to the home twice in the past two years: in November 2012 for domestic violence, sex assault and threats and in 2013 to check on someone’s welfare.Thanh Nguyen, a friend who stopped by the home Tuesday afternoon, described Lam as “a really nice guy,” but noted that “the family had trouble, problems.”Neighbours say they had seen the couple arguing in the past. Moe Assiff said he saw the couple yelling outside the house at 3 a.m. in August.Nguyen said Lam’s ex-wife owns a restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan. Two hours after police found the bodies in north Edmonton, officers in Fort Saskatchewan spotted a black Mercedes SUV that was connected to the first killing. It was parked outside a Vietnamese restaurant called VN Express, which police also linked to the suicidal male from the north Edmonton homicides. On Tuesday, Knecht said that the man had a “business interest” in the restaurant but would not specify exactly what that means. “To what extent, that is also being investigated at this time,” said Knecht.Suspecting the man was inside, police surrounded the restaurant and then rammed its entrance at 6:30 a.m., and commanded he come out.Receiving no response, police entered the restaurant at 7:34 a.m. and found a dead man matching the description of the suicidal male. Investigators then shut down the downtown area for an hour as they collected evidence. At around 2:30 p.m. the medical examiner’s office arrived at the scene and the body was removed on a stretcher.Edmonton police are remaining tight-lipped about their investigation. Knecht said twice on Tuesday that the situation was “fluid” and that officers that investigators are still trying to sort out the exact sequence of events, and how all of the victims and suspects are linked.Knecht said the handgun used in all of the deaths was legally registered in B.C. in 1997, but was stolen in Surrey in 2006.The scope and the scale of the carnage has stunned everyone from neighbours to Alberta Premier Jim Prentice.“I wish to express my sorrow at the tragic incident which claimed lives in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan today,” Prentice said in a statement. “In this season of peace and goodwill, this act of violence is all the more difficult to comprehend.”Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson released a statement Wednesday saying he was “shocked and saddened” about the homicides. “As more details have emerged, it now seems clear that this is a devastating case of domestic violence. The scale of these events is rare and exceptional. However, domestic violence remains all too common in our society and this tragedy is a harsh reminder of the continuing need for support for individuals and families in crisis, and the critical importance of reporting any instances of domestic violence to police.”Amy Duong, the vice-president external of the Edmonton Viets Association, said the group did not know the victims. All are believed to be Vietnamese.“It’s a tragic and horrific event,” Duong said. “I’ve never heard of this kind of domestic violence in the Vietnamese community before.”Sonia Bitar is a former citizenship judge and the executive director of Changing Together, a local NGO that works to support immigrant women.“It’s really a disaster,” she said. “It’s absolutely tragic, what happened. Can you imagine? In one day, eight people?”Bitar said that police have released so little information about the victims and the circumstances, it’s hard to draw conclusions about what happened and why. But, she notes, the Christmas season can create serious financial stresses for many families. It can also be a harder time of the year for people to get support to cope with domestic tensions. Domestic violence is a problem in all kind of families, she said, but it can be particularly difficult for immigrant women who don’t speak fluent English, or who feel culturally isolated, to ask for assistance.“Sometimes, it’s really embarrassing to call for help. For so many families, the violence is hidden or accepted, for the sake of the children.”Near the crime scenes, residents expressed horror over the events. When Farley Yuras moved into his home on 180A Avenue over two years ago, a boy who lived around the corner asked if he could take Yuras’s dog for a walk. Yuras is stunned now that the house was the scene of a mass murder.“I’m just sort of disgusted and shocked,” he said. “It’s just really, really sad.”Prior to the killings on Monday and Tuesday, there had been 27 homicides in Edmonton in 2014. These eight deaths bring the total to 35.Knecht said autopsies will be performed on the suspect and seven victims from the north Edmonton home on Jan. 1.Responding officers did an admirable job, the chief said.“At this point it appears we did everything we could have at that time,” Knecht said. With files from Ryan Cormier, Paula Simons, Elise Stolte and Madeline Smith

Police in Edmonton area investigate nine deaths in three locations-The Canadian PressBy The Canadian Press | The Canadian Press – DEC 30,14-YAHOONEWS

EDMONTON - Police have confirmed the deaths of six adults and two young children in what Chief Ron Knecht called a "senseless mass murder."Knecht told a news conference Tuesday that the victims included a woman found Monday night by officers responding to a weapons complaint at a south Edmonton home. The bodies of three more women, two men, a boy and a girl were discovered a few hours later at a northeast home where officers had checked on reports of a "suicidal male" earlier in the evening.None of the victims was identified, but Knecht said the public was not in danger."This series of events are not believed to be random acts and there is no risk to the broad public. These events do not appear to be gang-related, but rather tragic incidents of domestic violence."A man matching the description of the suicidal male was found dead in a restaurant in the Edmonton bedroom community of Fort Saskatchewan on Tuesday morning, Knecht said."It was established that a restaurant in that location was related to the suicidal male sought in the second homicide location," the chief said."This morning ... RCMP were able to establish that a male was found deceased at the restaurant location from what appeared to be an apparent suicide."Knecht went on to confirm that the man found dead in the restaurant "is in fact the same male that police have been attempting to locate since 8:28 p.m. (Monday).""Our homicide investigators have established associations and linkages between these homicides."The investigation is complex and fluid at this point, he added.Police investigate a scene where a car rammed an RCMP truck and damaged restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta on Tuesday December 30, 2014. The scene is said to be related to multiple deaths.

LUKE 1:32-33
32  He (JESUS) shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:(IN JERUSALEM)
33  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob (ISRAEL) for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.(THATS RULING FOREVER FROM JERUSALEM JESUS DOES)

ECCLESIASTES 1:4
4  One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.(AND EVER)(WORLD NEVER ENDS)(END OF THE AGE OF GRACE ONLY,NOT THE END OF THE WORLD)

PSALMS 104:5
5  Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.(NO END OF THE WORLDERS NONESENSE HERE)

MATTHEW 5:5
5  Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.(FOREVER,NOT HEAVEN)

PSALMS 37:29
29  The righteous shall inherit the land,(ON EARTH-NOT HEAVEN) and dwell therein for ever.

ISAIAH 45:17
17  But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation:(FOREVER) ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.(JERUSALEM ISRAEL ON EARTH FOREVER-NEVER ENDING)

EPHESIANS 3:21
21  Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

WE CHRISTIANS WHO BELIEVE IN PROPHECY.BUT DO NOT BELIEVE THE WORLD WILL END. WILL BE THROWN IN WITH THE CHRISTIAN CONSPIRACY THEORY CROWD ALSO.ALREADY THIS WRITER TALKS ABOUT GOOD PROPHECY TEACHERS LIKE JOHN HAGGE AND MARK BILTZ AS END OF THE WORLDERS.I KNOW JOHN HAGGE DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT.BECAUSE HE BELIEVES IN A PRE-TRIB RAPTURE. MARK I'M SURE BELIEVES IN A PRE-TRIB RAPTURE ALSO.SO THESE TWO ARE NO END OF THE WORLDERS.THE END OF THE WORLD CROWD SAYS COMETS OR SOME SKY EVENT WILL KILL EVERYONE ON EARTH.AND THEY USE PROPHECY COMBINED WITH GOVERNMENT HATE AND PREPPER CONSPIRACY THEORIES MIXED WITH THE BOOK OF REVELATION TO SAY THE WORLD IS ENDING.AND MOST OF THEM DO NOT BELIEVE IN A PRE-TRIB RAPTURE.THEY BELIEVE THEY HAVE TO SUFFER TRIBULATIONS AND BIG TIME PERSECUSSIONS UNTIL AT LEAST THE MIDPOINT OF THE TRIBULATION PERIOD.SOME BELIEVE THEY GET RAPTURED SOMETIME WHENEVER THE WRATH OF GOD IS POURED OUT ON THE EARTH.BUT IN THE END THEY STILL BELIEVE THE WORLD WILL END WETHER ITS BEFORE THEY DIE FROM TRIBULATIONS OR FROM THE SKYS.BUT THE CHRISTIAN-CONSPIRACY MIXTURES BELIEVE THE WORLD WILL SOON BE ENDING.THEY SET DATES FOR COMETS AND ASTEROIDS ALSO.WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS YOU NEVER DO.SO THEY CAN KNOW AND BE PREPED FOR THE END OF THE WORLD AT ANY TIME ON THOSE DATES.WELL THEY CAN BELIEVE THAT DANGEROUS BELIEF.NOT ME.IN ORDER FOR JESUS TO RULE FROM JERUSALEM FOREVER.THERE HAS TO BE AN EARTH. AND THERE HAS TO BE AN ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM AS A NATION ON THAT EARTH.FOR JESUS TO RULE FROM THE 4TH TEMPLE FOREVER.JESUS JUST REMODELS THE EARTH FROM ALL THE NUCLEAR WAREFARE THAT KILLED OFF HALF OF EARTHS POULATION OR 4 BILLION PEOPLE.DURING THE 7 YEAR PEACE TREATY OR 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.THE WORLD NEVER ENDS.SO DO NOT EVER LET THESE PREPPER CONSPIRACY THEORIST-CHRISTIAN MIXERS WITH BIBLE PROPHECY EVER DECIEVE YOU TO BELIEVE THE LIE THAT THE WORLD WILL BE ENDING.JUST BECAUSE FOUR BILLION DIE.DOES NOT MEAN ITS THE END OF THE WORLD.WERE WILL THE OTHER 4 BILLION GO IF THE WORLD IS ENDING.NO THE OTHER 4 BILLION GO INTO THE THOUSAND YEAR REIGN OF CHRIST ON EARTH.NOT HEAVEN.SO THERES NO POSSIBLE WAY THE WORLD CAN END.LIKE I SAID BEFORE.JESUS REMODELS AND HEALS THE EARTH DURING HIS LITERAL 1,000 YEAR REIGN ON EARTH.AND THEN TOTALLY RESTORES IT TO THE GARDEN OF EDEN AT THE END OF HIS 1,000 YEAR REIGN.AND THEN WE CHRISTIANS LIVE ON EARTH FOREVER WITH JESUS-NEVER ENDING IN OUR MANSIONS 1,500 MILES BY 1,500 MILES CUBED NEW JERUSALEM FOREVER.HOVERING OVER JERUSALEM WERE JESUS' 4TH TEMPLE WILL BE.AND JESUS WILL BE RULING FROM THAT 4TH TEMPLE OF EZEKIEL CHAPTERS 40-48 FOREVER-NEVER ENDING.THEN THE BIBLE VERSE PRAYER THAT SAYS THY KINGDOM COME WILL LITERALLY BE FULFILLED. AS JESUS WILL RULE FOREVER ON EARTH.NEVER ENDING.WITH THE CHRISTIANS FROM THE TIME OF ADAM.TILL THE END OF JESUS' THOUSAND YEAR RULE.ALL THE CHRISTIANS FROM THE BEGINING WILL HAVE OUR NEVER DYING BODIES. AND WE RULE OVER NATIONS FOREVER WITH JESUS AS HE RULES FOREVER FROM JERUSALEM AS THE KING OF THE JEWS AND THE WHOLE EARTH. IN FACT JERUSALEM WILL NOT JUST BE ISRAELS CAPITAL.BUT FOREVER-JERUSALEM WILL BE THE WORLD CAPITAL.

MATTHEW 6:9-13
09  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11  Give us this day our daily bread.
12  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

JESUS RETURNS TO EARTH BODILY TO RULE AND REIGN FROM DAVIDS THRONE FOREVER AND WE COME BACK WITH HIM ON WHITE HORSES.

ACTS 1:10-11
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

ZECHARIAH 14:4
4 And his (JESUS) feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

MATTHEW 24:27-30
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.(WW3 BIGTIME DEATH)
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days (AT THE END OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION-PEACE TREATY PERIOD) shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

JUDE 14-16
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,(THE RAPTURED CHRISTIANS FROM 7 YEARS EARLIER)
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.(KING JESUS-GOD)
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.

REVELATION 19:11-16
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse;(JESUS RETURNS TO EARTH LITERALLY) and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies (CHRISTIANS RAPTURED 7 YEARS EARLIER) which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

ISAIAH 9:6-7
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:(JESUS 1ST COMING AS A BABY OR SAVIOR) and the government shall be upon his shoulder:(JESUS 2ND COMING AS RULING KING AND JUDGE FROM JERUSALEM FOREVER AT THE END OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION) and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his (JESUS) government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David,( IN JERUSALEM) and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Saturday, December 27, 2014-Why doomsday ‘prophets’ are convinced 2015 is the last year-By JAMES KARIUKI-daily nation
The “blood moon” is largely considered a rare natural phenomenon scientifically explained as a version of the total lunar eclipse. But to a section of Christians, the four-part cycle of a reddish moon that occurred two times in April and October this year with two more expected in 2015 is a divine sign that the world is coming to an end at least by next September.A time like this, when the end of one year dovetails into a new one, provides a sense of renewal with resolutions and plans on the cards. However, the New Year also provides the perfect opportunity for sections of those who are religiously inclined to prophesy the end of the world — which coincides with the return of Jesus for those who subscribe to Christianity — or an apocalyptic scenario without any religious foundation where life as we know it is annihilated. The strongest prediction so far is the “blood moon” or lunar tetrad, mostly pushed by American preachers Mr Mark Blitz and Mr John Hagee. It is said to fulfill a biblical prophecy, particularly based on Joel 2:31, which talks of the sun being turned to darkness and the moon to blood.

DOOMSDAY PREDICTIONS
Unfulfilled predictions of doomsday have been made for centuries, but this has not stopped the proclamation of new ones. Some prophesies provide a way out for those who follow prescribed rules and beliefs, others claim post-apocalyptic difficulties for survivors while some are less forgiving with their everything-will-be-wiped-out message.Various people, organisations and cults have tried to predict the precise moment this will happen and whereas the Bible states no-one knows the hour or day the messiah returns, there have been doomsayers and “prophets” alike who have always tried to tell the end of the world and have prepared for it.From psychics to crackpots to pseudo-theologians and pseudoscientists, every once in a while, up comes a man or woman who claims to correctly predict when the world will end.Doomsday scenarios have also been depicted in movies — from a comet about to collide with our planet, an unrelenting virus that sweeps through the population, a giant supernatural creature that demolishes everything and anything in its path, an alien invasion, vicious weather that makes the tsunami look like child’s play and an impending nuclear war, among others.Kenya has not been spared from these predictions. Last week’s death of one of the most bizarre “prophets” of the end times was a reminder of a notorious incident eight years ago.Mr Moshe Sang had led other followers of House of Yahweh in Nyandarua to declare that the world would end in September 2006.

SECT FOLLOWERS ARRESTED
He and his sect members begun preparing to outlive the apocalypse by burrowing themselves a few feet below the ground in caves – astoundingly hoping to survive whatever it was they said would come upon the world. He mobilised his followers to dig ditches they planned to live in, in case a nuclear war broke out, and a major drill was conducted for all followers who arrived at the Mauche church donning rudimentary gas masks and a small well-wrapped bundle containing foodstuffs and a bottle of water they intended to imbibe while living underground. There was a network of underground hideouts where the members would live as well as a large area where they would meet for spiritual nourishment and briefing.Among the foodstuffs was fermented porridge flour that would have been enough to feed them for a year hoping that all “sinners” would have been wiped off the earth by then.“You doubt me but time is coming when  they will be caught unawares once the war kicks off and if the war is not there, let the police arrest me after the deadline lapses,” he said then. The police were obviously not impressed and arrested the sect followers. And the world did not end as Mr Sang had predicted, triggering a row within House of Yahweh.Mr Sang’s relationship with his wife also went cold leading to a separation but he maintained contact with his four children whom he supported through school until his recent death.

ERRONOUS INFORMATION
A House of Yahweh member David Yahshua Yegon told Lifestyle this week that Mr Sang was not the leader of the church but a member like any other, insisting that the House of Yahweh leader was based at the world headquarters in Texas, US.Mr Yegon added that the church’s activities would go on, saying most of the doomsday information given by Mr Sang was erroneous and had since been disowned by other members.“ The House of Yahweh is intact and we have grown from strength to strength with branches sprouting in various parts of the country,” he said, adding that Mr Sang was buried in his parents’ home in Bomet County.Theologian Buri Edward, a pastor at the Presbyterian Church of East Africa in Nairobi, says that by nature, human beings are curious about what happens beyond the world we know.“There is a certain side of us that is drawn to ‘beyondness’. It’s appealed to by science and by religion. Scientists investigate ‘the other world’ and that is why institutions like NASA (in the US) invest so much in trying to find out what’s out there. They try to answer questions like ‘are we alone in the universe?’” said Mr Buri, who is based at the St Andrews church. He added: “Then, theologically speaking, the first thing is that the Scriptures – which is what most of such people use – open the room for such imagination.

ROOM FOR IMAGINATION

The scriptural philosophy that the earth will end dramatically leaves a lot of room for imagination. The end of the world is provided for in the Bible. The second thing is that Scripture is vague about the end of the world, which is the second door to creativity and imagination. Then of course, for them it’s not doomsday, it’s a day to glory. They all promise a better place,” he told Lifestyle. He explained that some preachers seem to specialise in end times, making people who want to unravel the mystery and build hope to follow them.“The world is cruel in many ways. If there is a person who is telling you about a better place, they tend to attract a certain side of the human being. What we see is normal curiosity simply taken sometimes to dangerous extremes and these turn out to be cults,” he said.Six years before House of Yahweh hit the headlines, more than 700 doomsday cultists were killed in neighbouring Uganda after that group’s predictions failed to come true. The deaths were attributed to group suicide or mass murder. Members of the cult led by Joseph Kibwetere, and his principal prophetess, Credonia Mwerinde, had earlier been told to sell all their property. The Ugandan doomsday prediction was one among many made ahead of the year 2000.

CONSPIRACY THEORISTS

But while Kenya’s House of Yahweh had a basic plan in anticipation, hundreds of people in the US take the post-apocalypse preparations so seriously that they have every detail covered.Known in some quarters as the “preppers”, they were recently featured in a Sky News report that exposed their deep fears — and the “doomsday entrepreneurs” reaping from these fears. One told the reporter that he was not afraid of the actual events that would destroy the whole world — these he had planned for— but what would happen after that.“I think that is what I’m scared of the most,” he said, “Not the actual events. I’ve already prepared for that. It’s the aftermath, when there are no police, there are no military to protect us, we’re going to be protecting ourselves.”The trigger could be a terrorist attack, a collapse of the financial system, a failure in power generation, or a natural disaster.Psychologist Mbutu Kariuki says that these doomsday conspiracy theorists are people who take ordinary curiosities and sink into extremism.Mr Kariuki particularly has no kind words for religious leaders who head outfits that push the doomsday message.“The leaders are mostly very intelligent people who know what they are doing. They introduce mysteries that they know people have difficulty understanding. They use those to knock people off balance. The leaders are people who have no shame or qualms. They are psychopaths. They benefit from these relations,” he said.

DOCTRINE AND CONFUSION
Mr Kariuki compared them to thieves and robbers who do not use the gun, but rely on doctrine and confusion.“It is white collar crime. A lot of times, they even tell followers to sell property and amass that property,” he told Lifestyle.Mr Kariuki explained that most of the followers are often people with lower intelligence than the leaders and who tend to have an escapist mentality as opposed to mastering their environments.“It’s not about formal education, it’s about cognitive ability to be able to operate and survive their environments without going to the extreme towards seeking extra-terrestrial search for answers. Everything, including religion, requires moderation,” he said.In contrast to go-it-alone survivalists, preppers in the US have embraced social media, blogging and self-publishing to share knowledge and build networks in the event of “The End Of The World As We Know It”.There is even a reality TV show, Doomsday Preppers,  on the National Geographic channel. And some like James Stevens, 73, alias Dr Prepper, who lives on a secluded hilltop in Texas with five years’ supply of food and his own water supply, have been prepping for decades.

SURVIVAL RESOURCES
Prepping even appears to enjoy a degree of subtle government endorsement: for example, on its website, the Federal Emergency Management Agency tells citizens to put together a basic disaster kit with food and water for three days. But why stop there? Preppers can shop online for everything from a year’s supply of food for one person for about Sh90,000 to pre-fabricated underground bunkers in case of a nuclear, biological or chemical attack. And while House of Yahweh followers had simple caves, which looked like they could collapse under the slightest pressure, in California, the Vivos Group markets luxury bunkers for anyone from a family of four (“discreetly installed just about anywhere in one week”) to a community of 1,000 people outfitted for a year of survival.“Members need to only arrive before their facility is locked down and secured from the chaos above,” it says. And in a recent Sky News feature, American “doomsday entrepreneur” Larry Hill explained how he had converted a former underground nuclear missiles silo into a hideout for the rich when catastrophe hits the world. It even has a Jacuzzi and cinema for residents to relax in safety as the rest of the world is destroyed. But this does not come cheap: Sh270 million is the price for a floor of the luxury facility. So, as 2015 approaches, will the “blood moon” prediction that the end is nigh before or after the divine sign of the final lunar eclipse in September be fulfilled? Only time will tell.Additional information from BBC and AFP
