Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas

Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative Fathi Hammad months before the war, articulating the Hamas ideology to use civilians as human shields for Hamas fighters:"For the Palestinian people death has become an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: 'We desire death as you desire life.'"

ZEPHANIAH 2:1-7
1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
2  Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you.
3  Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.
4  For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.(ITS NO ACCIDENT THAT IN THIS GAZA WAR ITS ASHKELON-ASHDOD AND THE MURDERER HAMAS IN GAZA WERE MOST OF THE BOMBING ARE)(THIS IS PROPHECY COMING TO PASS BIGTIME)
5  Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast,(GAZA) the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines,(PALESTINIANS) I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
6  And the sea coast (GAZA) shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7  And the coast (GAZA) shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah;(ISRAEL) they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.(BY THIS PROPHECY I PREDICT ISRAEL WILL RETAKE GAZA SO ISRAELIS AROUND THE WORLD CAN IMMIGRATE THERE AND BUILD HOMES AND LIVE)

ISAIAH 14:29-32
29  Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina,(ARABS-PALESTINIANS) because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.(BOMBS)(WARFARE)
30  And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
31  Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina,(ARABS) art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.
32  What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion,(JERUSALEM) and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

EZEKIEL 39:11-21
11  And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog (RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.(THE ARAB-MUSLIM-RUSSIA BURRIAL SPOT WILL BE EAST OF THE DEAD SEA IN THE JORDAN VALLEY)

14  And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15  And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.
16  And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.
17  And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
18  Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19  And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20  Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.

Hamas Fires Rocket Barrage Moments Before Ceasefire-Hamas fires a barrage of rockets just minutes before midnight, when a new 72-hour ceasefire took effect.By Elad Benari-First Publish: 8/11/2014, 12:28 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Hamas terrorists fired a barrage of rockets towards Israel, including Tel Aviv, just before midnight on Sunday night, when a new 72-hour ceasefire went into effect.Just before midnight, residents of the Gush Dan region in central Israel reported hearing a loud explosion. Hamas later claimed it fired a long-range missile towards Tel Aviv.Officials confirmed that a rocket indeed exploded in an open region, causing no physical injuries or damages.Earlier, five rockets exploded in a community outside the Eshkol Regional Council. There were no physical injuries or damages. As well, the Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted two rockets over the city of Kiryat Malachi. Two rockets were intercepted over Ashdod and another one was intercepted over the Merhavim Regional Council. There were no physical injuries in any of the attacks.Israel confirmed earlier Sunday evening that the 72-hour truce will go into effect at midnight. According to Channel 2, the Israeli delegation will head to Cairo for talks Monday morning, if the fire from Gaza does indeed cease and the night is a quiet one.Hamas played a double game Sunday, with its negotiators reportedly agreeing to a ceasefire in Cairo, and its terrorists in Gaza launching missiles at Israel. Israel insists that it will not negotiate under fire, but Hamas appeared to be trying to make it do so anyway.

Left-Wing British Paper Runs Ad Condemning Hamas Human Shields-Decision to run ad branding Hamas's use of human shields as 'child sacrifice' comes after another paper refused to do so.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 8/10/2014, 5:23 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Britain's left-wing Guardian newspaper is to run a controversial advertisement condemning Hamas's use of human shields as "child sacrifice" - the same ad that was rejected by another British paper, The Times. The ad, co-written by Nobel Prize-winner and holocaust-survivor Eli Wiesel and US Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, is entitled "Jews Rejected Human Sacrifice 3,500 Years Ago, Now It's Hamas' Turn", and calls on "true Muslims", as well as world leaders, to condemn what it brands as Hamas’ use of "child sacrifices". It is sponsored by Rabbi Boteach's This World: The Values Network organization."In my own lifetime, I have seen Jewish children thrown into the fire," Wiesel writes in the ad. "And now I have seen Muslim children used as human shields, in both cases, by worshippers of death cults indistinguishable from that of the Molochites."What we are suffering through today is not a battle of Jew versus Arab or Israeli versus Palestinian. Rather, it is a battle between those who celebrate life and those who champion death. It is a battle of civilization versus barbarism."The ad was rejected by The Times, which claimed by way of explanation "that the opinion being expressed is too strong and too forcefully made and will cause concern amongst a significant number of Times readers'."The advert has already run in a number of major US publications, including The Times' sister publication, the Wall Street Journal, as well as The New York Times and The Washington Post. But the decision to run it in the Guardian - which is well-known for its hostile editorial line towards Israel - will come as particularly surprising, and raises further questions about The Times' decision not to run it.Condemning the decision by The Times to reject the ad, Rabbi Boteach accused the paper of "catering to bigotry."Hamas use of human shields throughout the conflict has been well- documented - whether by firing missiles from heavily-populated areas; using schools, hospitals, cemeteries and mosques as arms depots, rocket launchpads and military bases; or simply encouraging Gazans to act as human shields.A Hamas "urban warfare" manual captured recently by the IDF shed further light on how Hamas uses Gaza's civilian population in its fight against Israel.

Egypt Reportedly Trying to Give Abbas Power in Gaza-Senior diplomatic source reveals Egypt trying to advance Abbas as the 'general Palestinian leader,' negate Hamas gains.-By Ari Yashar-First Publish: 8/10/2014, 11:58 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

A senior diplomatic source familiar with the details of truce negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Cairo said Sunday morning that Egypt, which is acting as intermediary, is trying to strengthen Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in the talks. The source, who spoke to Walla! on condition of anonymity, said Egypt's goal in the negotiations is to strengthen Abbas's position, and to negate the honor and esteem Hamas is likely to gain in the Arab world as a result of confronting Israel directly and holding out in an extended conflict. The agreement Egypt is advancing according to the source would demand that Hamas and other Palestinian movements "recognize being in the second row, whereas Abu Mazen (Abbas - ed.), being as he is supported by Egypt, is the general Palestinian leader who will lead the reconstruction of Gaza." Abbas's Fatah signed a unity agreement with Hamas and created a unity government in June, although that unity government admittedly has no power in Gaza.Apparently Egypt is trying to change that status; a Palestinian source involved in the negotiations disclosed last week that Egypt reached a draft agreement whereby Egypt would open the Rafah crossing to Sinai, putting it under PA and not Hamas control. The agreement would not involve Israel.Perhaps indicating Egypt's favoritism towards Abbas, senior Hamas source Mustafa Sawaf, who is considered a close confidant of the Hamas leadership, called Saturday for Egypt to be replaced by another intermediary.Sawaf called the Egyptian intermediary "the basic delaying source preventing an agreement." He proposed finding a third-party that would bring to fruition the Hamas demands, and open the Erez and Rafah Crossings to Israel and the Sinai.Likewise, senior Hamas official Ezzat al-Rishq, who is involved in the Cairo talks, told AFP on Sunday that "the possibility of negotiations to succeed is weak. It is possible that the Palestinian delegation will leave to consult its leaders any minute." Egypt has held an antagonistic stance towards Hamas given the terror group's connections with the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization Egypt's military-backed government has been cracking down on.It is worth noting that despite the reports of Egyptian preference for Abbas over Hamas, Abbas has threatened Israel with diplomatic warfare over the counter-terror operation in Gaza. Abbas's Fatah faction has called for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel, and declared "open war" on Israel late last month.Another detail of the negotiations in Cairo was revealed by the diplomatic source to Walla!. He stated that despite Israel's insistence that it will not continue negotiations until the Hamas rocket fire restarted last Friday is halted, Israel in fact is continuing to coordinate with Egypt.

Hamas Reveals Enmity to Egypt, Arab League-Senior Hamas source calls for Egyptian intermediary to be replaced, threatens Arab League Secretary-General with violence if he visits Gaza.By Dalit Halevy, Ari Yashar-First Publish: 8/10/2014, 9:16 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

A senior Hamas source has revealed the terrorist group's antagonism both towards Egypt's mediation in truce talks regarding the ongoing conflict with Israel, as well as towards the Arab League. The source, Mustafa Sawaf, is considered a close confidant of the Hamas leadership. He advised the Palestinian negotiation team in Cairo, which is comprised of Hamas and Palestinian Authority (PA) members, to go home immediately.Sawaf recommend the team not to agree to Egyptian involvement, defining the Egyptian intermediary as "the basic delaying source preventing an agreement."An alternate intermediary should be sought out, wrote Sawaf on his Facebook page, recommending a third-party that would bring to fruition the Hamas demands, and open the Erez and Rafah Crossings to Israel and the Sinai.Sawaf likewise advised the Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El-Araby not to make a solidarity visit to Gaza accompanied by a delegation of Arab foreign ministers."El-Araby will not be received warmly, and Gaza residents will hit him and his delegation," threatened Sawaf.Explaining the enmity to the apparent show of solidarity, Sawaf said Arab residents of Gaza view the Arab League as "partners to the slaughter," in an accusation of support for Israel's counter-terror Operation Protective Edge; Sawaf did not provide examples of such support.Perhaps partially explaining the response are El-Araby's statements late last month, in which he called on Hamas to accept an Egyptian-brokered truce and agree to a ceasefire ending its attacks via rocket fire and terror tunnels.

"No concessions on any demands"

The negotiations in Cairo attempting to forge a truce between Israel and Hamas appear on the brink of collapse, as the terror group is refusing to curtail its demands, and renewed rocket fire has reportedly put talks on hold.Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum declared on Saturday, a day after the 72-hour ceasefire ended and Hamas promptly returned to firing rockets on Israeli civilian centers, that "there's no going back, and the struggle will continue at full power."In terms of the negotiations, Barhoum stated "there won't be a concession on any demand." At the same time, the Hamas spokesperson said "Israeli stubbornness won't help it at all," and that talks will not continue forever. The demands that Hamas is unwilling to compromise on include various threats to Israel's security, such as an airport in Gaza, a Gaza sea port, open border crossings and terrorist releases. At least as far as the border crossings are concerned, it appears that moves are being made to skirt Israel and have a direct agreement between Hamas and Egypt on the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Sinai.A Palestinian source involved in the Cairo negotiations revealed on condition of anonymity that Egypt has reached a draft agreement with Hamas and the PA. The draft would have Egypt open the Rafah crossing, putting it under PA and not Hamas control. However, following the renewed rocket fire by Hamas on Friday, Israeli officials stated negotiations would not continue until the rockets halted. A senior member of the Hamas and PA negotiating team told AFP they had given Israel until Sunday at 1 p.m. to return to negotiations before they would leave Cairo.Likewise, Hamas deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzouk said Saturday "the coming 24 hours will seal the fate of the entire negotiations. We aren't interested in an escalation, but we don't accept that there is no response to our demands."

Meshaal: Durable Truce Must Lead to Lifting Gaza Blockade-'In the case of Israeli procrastination or continued aggression, Hamas is ready to resist on the ground.'By AFP-First Publish: 8/10/2014, 9:44 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

A lasting truce must lead to the lifting by Israel of its blockade of the Gaza Strip, Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal told AFP in an exclusive interview in Doha on Sunday. The 72-hour ceasefire Hamas reached with Israel on Sunday "is one of the ways or tactics to ensure successful negotiations or to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza," said Meshaal. The final "goal we insist on is having the demands of Palestinians met and the Gaza Strip exist without a blockade"."We insist on this goal. In the case of Israeli procrastination or continued aggression, Hamas is ready with other Palestinian factions to resist on the ground and politically and... to face all possibilities," he said. The remarks by Meshaal, who lives in exile in Qatar, come as Israeli and Palestinian negotiators on Sunday accepted an Egyptian proposal for a 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza from one minute past midnight local time

Israel, Palestinians agree new Gaza truce-Reuters-By By Nidal al-Mughrabi and Lin Noueihed-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

GAZA/CAIRO (Reuters) - Israel and the Palestinians agreed on Sunday to an Egyptian proposal for a new 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza starting at 2100 GMT, officials from the warring sides said."Israel has accepted Egypt's proposal," a senior Israeli government official said, adding Israeli negotiators would return to Cairo on Monday to resume indirect talks with the Palestinians if the truce held. The Israeli team had flown home on Friday before a previous three-day truce expired and hostilities in the month-old conflict resumed.A Hamas official said Palestinian factions had accepted Egypt's call and that the Cairo talks would continue. In a statement, Egypt's Foreign Ministry urged "both sides to exploit this truce to resume indirect negotiations immediately and work towards a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire agreement".Earlier, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said "Israel will not negotiate under fire" and warned of a protracted Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip if rocket salvoes continued.Hamas has demanded an end to Israeli and Egyptian blockades of the coastal territory and the opening of a Gaza seaport - a project Israel says should be dealt with only in any future talks on a permanent peace deal with the Palestinians.Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said negotiations during the new truce would be "the last chance" for a deal.Israeli air strikes and shelling on Sunday killed nine Palestinians in Gaza, including a boy of 14 and a woman, medics said, in a third day of renewed fighting. One air strike destroyed the home of Gaza City's mayor, Nezar Hijazi, across the street from the Reuters bureau where reporters and cameramen hit the floor as the explosion occurred. There were no casualties in the attack because Israel telephoned warnings to residents in the house and neighbouring buildings. The Israeli military said it targeted 11 "terror squads" in Gaza among them gunmen involved in or preparing to fire rockets.Since the previous ceasefire expired, Palestinian rocket and mortar salvoes have focused on Israeli kibbutzim, or collective farms, just across the border in what appeared to be a strategy of sapping the Jewish state's morale without triggering another ground invasion of the tiny Gaza Strip.A month of war has killed 1,910 Palestinians and 67 Israelis while devastating wide tracts of densely-populated Gaza. But international pressure for a ceasefire has been weaker than in earlier rounds of Israeli-Palestinian conflict given other international security crises, notably in Iraq and Ukraine, distracting major powers. However, the violence over the past three days has been less intense than at the war's outset, with reduced firing on both sides. Israel withdrew ground forces from Gaza on Tuesday.

BLOCKADES

Before the truce ran out, Israel said it was ready to agree to an extension. Hamas did not agree, calling for an end to the economically stifling blockade of the enclave that both Israel and Egypt, which regards the Islamist movement as a security threat, have imposed.Israel has resisted easing access to Gaza, suspecting Hamas could then restock with weapons from abroad.A sticking point has been Israel's demand for guarantees that Hamas would not use any reconstruction supplies sent to Gaza to build more tunnels of the sort that Palestinian fighters have used to infiltrate the Jewish state.Egypt is meeting separately with each party, given that Hamas rejects Israel's right to exist and Israel regards the group as a terrorist organisation.Gaza hospital officials say the Palestinian death toll has been mainly civilian since the July 8 launch of Israel's military campaign to quell Gaza rocket fire.Israel has lost 64 soldiers and three civilians to the war, where losses of non-combatants in Gaza and the destruction of thousands of homes have drawn international condemnation. Israeli tanks and infantry left the enclave on Tuesday after the army said it had completed its main mission of destroying more than 30 tunnels dug by militants for cross-border attacks. In renewed fighting since the end of a three-day truce on Friday, Israel has killed 19 Palestinians in air strikes. Militants have fired more than 130 projectiles, mostly short-range rockets and mortar bombs, at Israel.Though Israel's Iron Dome rocket interceptor does not work at such short ranges - a version called "Iron Beam" is being developed to shoot down mortars - there have been few casualties, largely because as many as 80 percent of the border kibbutzim's 5,000 residents fled before last week's ceasefire. Some said on Sunday they would not return to their communities, which have long been symbols of Israel's pioneering spirit - an abandonment likely to raise pressure on Netanyahu.(Additional reporting by Lin Noueihed in Cairo, Dan Williams, Allyn Fisher-Ilan and Ori Lewis in Jerusalem; Writing by Jeffrey Heller in Jerusalem; Editing by Janet Lawrence)

Juncker's chief of staff: 'I get 800 emails a day'-08.08.14 @ 08:40-YAHOONEWS-By Valentina Pop

BRUSSELS - The centre of power in Brussels has temporarily moved to the ninth floor of the so-called Charlemagne building in the EU district. There, in a nondescript grey hallway guarded by security officers, pinned up pieces of paper with arrows guide vistors to the “President-elect Jean Claude Juncker” team.“We’ve put them up to make him laugh,” says Martin Selmayr, Juncker's chief of staff.Juncker is protocol-averse and insists on being called “Jean-Claude”, Selmayr told this website. A change from the more formal Jose Manuel Barroso, who still heads the EU commission across the street, in the Berlaymont building.Selmayr’s team consists of just a handful of people but will expand once Juncker replaces Barroso later this autumn.“I get around 800 emails a day,” says Selmayr.Specialised in EU law and communications, the 43-year old German lawyer has been part of the EU commission for 10 years. And always working for a Luxembourger. He worked for commissioner Viviane Reding from 2004 until this year, first as her spokesman, then as her chief of staff. In April, he went on unpaid leave to steer the election campaign for Juncker, also from the Grand Duchy. Before joining the commission, Selmayr worked as legal counsel for the European Central Bank and had a one-year stint at the International Monetary Fund in Washington. He also worked for four years as Brussels competition lawyer for Bertelsmann - a large German publisher.

Commissioner posts

In the Charlemagne headquarters, most of the activity these days revolves around the composition of the next EU commission.EU governments had an end-of-July deadline to send in names. Juncker has asked for a “significant number” of female commissioners, while the European Parliament said it might veto a college that has fewer women than the current nine.So far only four countries have officially nominated women - Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy and Sweden. But Selmayr says some countries have kept their main nominees under wraps and others have already indicated one or two more options, some of whom are women, so the tally may still be reached. The ultimate composition of the EU commission will be drawn up in the first weeks of September, depending on whom EU leaders pick as foreign affairs chief at a summit on 30 August. The foreign affairs chief not only chairs council meetings of EU foreign ministers, but is also part of the College of Commissioners to ensure that EU foreign policy is streamlined in both institutions.Three countries so far have sent in names for the foreign affairs post - Poland nominated its foreign affairs minister Radek Sikorski, Italy proposed Federica Mogherini, its foreign minister, and Bulgaria has opted for Kristalina Georgieva, the current humanitarian aid commissioner.Selmayr says all three are “good candidates”, but the final deal - which will also take into account key commissioner dossiers - has to represent a geographical balance and include at least one woman.“We have drawn up dozens of models [for the composition of the commission] and we have a pretty good idea of what may stay, but it’s enough to have 2-3 variables and you end up with so many different results,” Selmayr says.

New role for vice-presidents

With an unprecedented number of former prime ministers nominated for commissioners and amid demands to restructure the 28-strong college, Juncker is considering a redistribution of tasks. As they have governing experience, nominees like the former PMs of Finland, Latvia and Estonia could have a “filtering” role - perhaps even without a portfolio. With each commissioner wanting to put forward his own initiatives and proposals, the Secretariat General at the moment is the only “filter” for what actually gets done.“But it’s difficult - who can tell a commissioner what goes in the working programme and what not? It’s easier when it’s elected politicians, not a civil servant taking that responsibility,” Selmayr explains. This would be in line with the demands - coming from Britain and Germany - that the commission focus on fewer, bigger initiatives. And it would justify the better-paid vice-president posts, currently numbering eight out of 28 commissioners.

Fewer travels

What to expect of Juncker once he becomes commission president? Selmayr says there will be more focus on the inner matters of the EU.This would also mean less travelling and duplication with the EU council chief. During the previous five years, the Barroso-Van Rompuy tandem travelled (separately) to every international meeting possible.“He will ask what the added value is if the commission president is there. It shouldn’t be just a protocol issue,” Selmayr says.Juncker has also promised to make public all meetings of commissioners with lobbyists and interest groups - a long-standing demand by transparency groups and MEPs. In return, Juncker expects MEPs to live up to the same standards and also publish information about their meetings. Referring to the new system that brought Juncker to the commission presidency - under which the lead candidate of the most successful party in the EU elections is nominated for the position - Selmayr said its future success will itself depend on how successful the Juncker commission is.

Putin meets with Armenia and Azerbaijan heads-Associated Press-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin held a joint meeting Sunday with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as concerns mount over the escalation of fighting over the South Caucasus region Nagorno-Karabakh.Putin met with Armenian President Serge Sarkisian and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev in Sochi to discuss rising tensions in the disputed territory. Nagorno-Karabakh is part of Azerbaijan but it and some surrounding territory have been under the control of Armenian soldiers and local Armenian forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a separatist war. Since then, there have been sporadic clashes, but tensions have risen sharply in the past week as 19 soldiers were killed, 13 of them Azeri.Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told news agencies that the meeting had been beneficial and both sides had committed to continuing talks, but admitted that "the devil is in the details, and the most complicated questions are still unsolved."Years of diplomatic efforts under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe have made little visible progress in resolving the dispute. In their opening remarks, both leaders criticized the other side for failing to live up to its international obligations in the conflict.

Ukrainian forces encircle rebel-held city, talk of truce collapses-Reuters-By Richard Balmforth and Sergei Karpukhin-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

KIEV/DONETSK Ukraine (Reuters) - Artillery shells slammed into the outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Donetsk on Sunday as government forces tightened the noose around the rebel-held redoubt and called on pro-Russian separatists to surrender. To the east of Donetsk, government forces and the separatists were fighting for control of the town of Krasny Luch, a rail and road junction through which Kiev says the rebels are receiving supplies of Russian military equipment.Talk of a ceasefire, a possibility raised by a separatist leader on Saturday, evaporated as Kiev government forces kept up an offensive to crush the rebels. Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said if the rebels wanted a ceasefire this meant "raising white flags and putting down their guns".There would be no truce while the Ukrainian army continued "punitive" military action, the rebels retorted in a statement.Donetsk, a major industrial hub in Ukraine's Russian-speaking east, resonated with the crash of shells on its outskirts for about eight hours up to mid-day on Sunday, a Reuters witness in the town said.In the city's northern district of Putilovka, a building housing the offices of Ukrtelecom telecommunications company was ablaze, apparently hit by a shell. Residents had come out to watch, while one man was putting up corrugated metal to protect the windows of his home.

'TIGHTENING THE CIRCLE'

Lysenko said in the past 24 hours, the military had "continued successful offensive operations, considerably tightening the circle around the capital of the Donbass, Donetsk". He added: "The (separatist) fighters are in panic and chaos. There are numerous cases of desertion among the terrorists."Neither he nor the rebels gave any indication of casualties in the fighting over the weekend.A statement on the Facebook page of rebel commander Igor Girkin, known as Strelkov (The Shooter), said: "They have been bombing all morning. There are explosions, some close, some far off. There is news coming in all the time by phone. Just now, we had a fire near hospital No 18, a woman has been killed ..."Accusing the Ukrainians of maintaining "punitive" operations that endangered the people in Donetsk and threatened a humanitarian catastrophe, a later rebel statement said: "As long as the Ukrainian army is continuing military action there can be no ceasefire."Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Russia of orchestrating the separatist revolt which erupted in April after Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea peninsula. It says Russia is funnelling tanks and missile systems to the rebels, who have declared independent "people's republics" in the two main industrial regions. Moscow denies involvement.Donetsk, a once bustling metropolis of nearly one million people, is facing an increasing shortage of food, water and electricity. Few people are on the streets, though groups of armed separatist fighters can be seen, and few cars. Most people are staying indoors or have left the city for the countryside. Most shops are closed but the municipal authorities said bakeries were still producing bread despite a lack of electricity. Fuel supplies had run out and few chemists are operating. Banks are closed and pensions and social allowances are not being paid.

BATTLE UNDERWAY

Repeating charges of violations of Ukrainian airspace by Russian warplanes, something denied by Moscow, Lysenko said a battle was now underway for Krasny Luch, a junction midway between the two rebel-held cities of Donetsk and Luhansk and a staging post for supplies of Russian military equipment to the rebels, Kiev says."If we take this, it will guarantee we can block a route through which the terrorists are receiving aid. Fighting is going on there - very hot fighting," Lysenko said."Our forces are doing all they can to take it (the town) as quickly as possible," he said.Though all sides recognise the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in eastern Ukraine, Kiev and its Western allies suspect Russia could use the situation to move its forces into the country.Kiev said on Saturday it had headed off, by diplomatic means, an attempt by Russia to send troops into Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers accompanying a humanitarian convoy sanctioned by the Red Cross. Moscow dismissed the allegation as a "fairy tale".Ukraine and Western allies accuse Russia of orchestrating the revolt and arming the rebels. Moscow denies involvement. The geopolitical tussle over the future of the ex-Soviet country of 46 million people has grown sharper since the July 17 downing of a Malaysian airliner in the eastern Ukraine conflict zone, with the deaths of all 298 passengers and crew.Kiev and its Western allies have laid the blame for the attack at the door of the rebels. The separatists and Russia say flight MH17 was downed as a result of Ukraine's military offensive against the rebels.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday Moscow was in talks with Kiev, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations on sending humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine. The White House said that during a call on Saturday, U.S. President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel "agreed that any Russian intervention in Ukraine, even under purported 'humanitarian' auspices, without the formal, express consent and authorization of the government of Ukraine is unacceptable, violates international law, and will provoke additional consequences."Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron also discussed the crisis and said tougher sanctions should be imposed on Russia if it sends troops into Ukraine. On Friday, Russia's Defence Ministry said it had finished military exercises in southern Russia, near the Ukrainian border, which the United States had criticised as provocative.(Additional reporting by Natalia Zinets in Kiev and Maria Tsvetkova in Moscow; Writing by Richard Balmforth; Editing by Janet Lawrence)

Erdogan wins Turkey's first presidential election-Reuters-By Nick Tattersall and Tulay Karadeniz-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

ANKARA (Reuters) - Tayyip Erdogan secured his place in history as Turkey's first directly elected president on Sunday, sweeping more than half the vote in a result his opponents fear heralds an increasingly authoritarian state.Supporters honking car horns and waving flags took to the streets in the capital Ankara after Turkish television stations said Erdogan, the prime minister for more than a decade, had won 51.8 percent of the vote, 13 points more than his closest rival and avoiding the need for a second round runoff. The chairman of the High Election Board confirmed Erdogan had a majority, with more than 99 percent of votes counted, and said full provisional figures would be announced on Monday."The people have shown their will," Erdogan, 60, told a cheering crowd at a convention centre in Istanbul. He stopped short of declaring outright victory in the first general election for Turkey's head of state, a post previously chosen by parliament. But at the headquarters in the capital Ankara of his AK Party, a balcony was being prepared and thousands of followers were already gathered below to hear him.Turkey has emerged as a regional economic force under Erdogan, who has ridden a wave of religiously conservative support to transform the secular republic founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk on the ruins of the Ottoman empire in 1923.But his critics warn that a President Erdogan, with his roots in political Islam and intolerance of dissent, would lead the NATO member and European Union candidate further away from Ataturk's secular ideals. If his victory is confirmed, Erdogan will be sworn in as president on Aug. 28. The ruling AK Party was to begin meeting shortly to start deciding on candidates to replace him as premier and party leader. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is seen as a leading candidate.Erdogan's main rival in Sunday's election, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, a former diplomat and academic who won 38.5 percent of the vote according to broadcasters CNN Turk and NTV, congratulated Erdogan on the result in a brief statement.Selahattin Demirtas took 9.7 percent, according to the TV stations - a result for an ethnic Kurd that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago as Turkey battled a Kurdish rebellion and sought to quell demands from the ethnic minority."We will continue to defend our principles and values. The message we wanted to deliver has reached the whole country, to every village, district, town in Turkey," Demirtas told reporters in the mainly Kurdish city of Diyarbakir.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Erdogan's core supporters, religious conservatives, see his victory as the crowning achievement of his drive to reshape Turkey and break the hold of a secular elite. In a tea house in the working-class Istanbul district of Tophane, men watching election coverage on television praised Erdogan as a pious man of the people who had boosted Turkey's status both economically and on the international stage."Erdogan is on the side of the underdog. He is the defender against injustice," said Murat, 42, a jeweller, who declined to give his family name."This country was ruined by the old politicians. They lied to us. They caused economic crises, the PKK violence," he said. Erdogan has opened a peace process with Kurdish PKK militants to end a conflict which has killed 40,000 people in 30 years. The voting turnout, which exceeded 89 percent in March local elections, appeared to be low, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly observer George Tsereteli told reporters. Opinion polls had put Erdogan far ahead of two rivals competing for a five-year term as president. Parliament has in the past chosen the head of state but this was changed under a law pushed through by Erdogan's government. He has set his sights on serving two presidential terms, keeping him in power past 2023, the 100th anniversary of the secular republic. For a leader who refers frequently to Ottoman history in his speeches, the date has special significance. In his final campaign speech in the conservative stronghold of Konya on Saturday, he said the election would herald a "new Turkey" and "a strong Turkey is rising again from the ashes".But his vision left voters cold at one polling station in the capital Ankara, where many complained of deep polarisation under Erdogan and said only his AK Party loyalists had benefited from changes in the past decade."The freedom that he says has increased is for his own supporters. You can only be free if you support him. He has polarised this country in a way nobody has before," said Yucel Duranoglu, 45, who works for a private company.

"ONE-MAN RULE"

Erdogan has vowed to exercise the full powers granted to him by current laws, unlike predecessors who have played a mainly ceremonial role. But he also plans to change the constitution to establish a fully executive presidency. The current constitution, written under military rule after a 1980 coup, would enable him to chair cabinet meetings and appoint the premier and members of top judicial bodies including the constitutional court and supreme council of judges.Erdogan's AK scored a clear victory in local elections in March and Sunday's triumph will emphatically put an end to the toughest year of his time in power. He was shaken by nationwide anti-government protests last summer, and months later, Erdogan and his inner circle were targeted by a corruption investigation and a power struggle with his former ally, U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen. He accuses Gulen of seeking to overthrow him and has pledged as president to continue purging institutions such as the police and judiciary where Gulen is believed to wield influence.Despite the challenges Erdogan has faced, there was an air of resignation among many voters who oppose him."I am almost depressed. I worry for my country because I increasingly feel like an alien here. The prime minister is talking about a Turkey that I don't recognise," said Erkan Sonmez, 43, who works in an import-export business."I can no longer speak to my neighbours who vote for the AK Party, does that sound like a peaceful community to you?"(Additional reporting by Ayla Jean Yackley, Seda Sezer, Ece Toksabay, Dasha Afansieva in Istanbul and Orhan Coskun, Asli Kandemir, Gulsen Solaker, Humeyra Pamuk, Selin Bucak in Ankara; Seyhmus Cakan in Diyarbakir; Writing by Daren Butler and Nick Tattersall; Editing by Alastair Macdonald)

Heavy shelling resumes in Libyan capital Tripoli-Reuters-By Aziz El Yaakoubi-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Heavy shelling resumed in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Sunday after three days of relative calm following more than a month of street fighting between rival armed factions battling for control of the city's airport. The North African OPEC oil producer is facing the worst violence since the 2011 war that toppled Muammar Gaddafi, with more than 200 people killed. Many Western embassies and international companies have evacuated staff members.Southern Tripoli was covered by black plumes of smoke, with artillery and rockets hitting areas around the international airport, where two rival brigades of ex-rebels have established front lines. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the new exchanges. But the health ministry said it cannot reach hospitals because of power failures and gasoline shortages in Tripoli."We have been trying to gather information and details, but it is really hard to reach doctors," health ministry spokesman Ammar Mohammed said.A United Nations delegation has been in Tripoli since Friday to try to broker a ceasefire between armed factions loyal to Islamist-allied Misrata brigades and their rivals allied to the western town of Zintan. An official from the delegation, who declined to be identified, said on Saturday that U.N. envoys were optimistic."The mission has already met several key actors and is still fairly optimistic that a ceasefire can be obtained," the official said."The delegation is very concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing crisis if a ceasefire is not achieved very quickly," he added.

PARLIAMENT

Libya's newly elected parliament has also called for an immediate ceasefire, but the main Islamist political party and its allies have opposed the fact that parliament has been meeting in the eastern town of Tobruk, which they described as unconstitutional."We recognize the parliament, but we don't recognize its sessions in the town of Tobruk and all the decisions that come from there," Ahmed Hadil, a spokesman of the Central Shield brigades, one of the militias fighting to control the airport, told reporters on Saturday.Since the fall of Gaddafi, Libya's government has been unable to control rival militias of heavily armed former rebels, who once fought against Gaddafi but now refuse to disarm and count on semi-official support from ministries or politicians.Fighting since last month over the Tripoli airport involves two loose factions. On one side are Zintanis, including some former Gaddafi forces, who present themselves as a bastion against Islamist fundamentalists and the Muslim Brotherhood.Against them are brigades from the western port of Misrata, allied with Islamist political forces and other militias, who say they are fighting to clear out remnants of Gaddafi's army.In Benghazi, only sporadic gunfire has broken the calm that has prevailed since a coalition of fighters called the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council overran the main military base in the city 10 days ago.The Shura Council is an alliance between a group of former rebels and militants from Ansar al-Sharia, which Washington blames for killing its ambassador in 2012 and classifies as a terrorist organization.South Korea groups Hyundai and Doosan have suspended construction of a 1,400 megawatt Libyan power plant in the town of Sirte because of security concerns, the plant managing director and a town council spokesman said on Sunday.

China rebuffs U.S. efforts on South China Sea tensions-Reuters-By Lesley Wroughton and Paul Mooney-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

NAYPYITAW (Reuters) - China appeared to rebuff pressure from the United States to rein in its assertive actions in the South China Sea on Sunday as Southeast Asian nations declined to overtly back Washington's proposal for a freeze on provocative acts. The lack of progress in resolving the maritime tensions at Asia's highest-profile diplomatic meeting so far this year shows the tough task Washington faces in persuading smaller Asian nations to risk antagonizing the region's rising power.Foreign ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) released a statement expressing concern over "increased tensions" and called for stepped-up talks with China, in what U.S. officials said was a setback for Beijing's efforts to play down the disputes. But there was no specific mention of China, and ASEAN only "noted" a formal three-point plan submitted by U.S. ally the Philippines for a moratorium on destabilizing actions. The rancour over the disputed sea has split ASEAN, with several states including some of the claimant nations reluctant to jeopardize rising trade and investment ties with China. Beijing has been able to use its influence to block regional action on the maritime issue, most notably in 2012 when an ASEAN meeting chaired by Chinese ally Cambodia broke down in acrimony."We urged all parties concerned to exercise self-restraint and avoid actions which would complicate the situation and undermine peace, stability, and security in the South China Sea," ASEAN said in a communique following its meeting this weekend in the Myanmar capital Naypyitaw.Their meeting was part of the ASEAN Regional Forum, which brings together 27 countries including China, Russia, Japan, India and Australia.Sea tensions spiked in May when China parked a giant oil rig in waters claimed by Vietnam. The U.S. and Philippine proposals aimed to prevent such actions, as well as building and land reclamation work on disputed islands being carried out by China and other claimants.A senior U.S. official said ASEAN countries' concern over China's maritime actions was at an "all-time high" based on private conversations, although their public statements were more guarded to avoid antagonizing China.U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said he was satisfied with the communique."I think the language goes far enough," Kerry told reporters. "I think we made the points that we came to make. We were not seeking to pass something, we were trying to put something on the table that people could embrace."

CODE OF CONDUCT

The communique did call for ASEAN and China to finalize a proposed Code of Conduct to ease maritime tensions, including "concrete elements" to promote trust and confidence. They have begun talks on the code but made little substantive progress."This language represents a significant setback for China's efforts to play for time and change the subject," said one senior U.S. administration official.Chinese officials were not immediately available for comment. China rejects U.S. involvement in the dispute and has already dismissed the proposal for a freeze. China accuses the United States of emboldening claimants such as the Philippines and Vietnam with its military "pivot" back to Asia.ASEAN and China signed a trust-building agreement in 2002 called the Declaration of Conduct (DOC), committing to exercise "self-restraint" in activities that would escalate disputes, such as occupying islands and reefs or building on them. Most claimants have flouted those guidelines, leading to rising tension between four ASEAN claimant nations and China, which claims 90 percent of the waters. The ASEAN secretary-general, Le Luong Minh, said it was wrong to assume that the group did not support the U.S. proposal, noting that China and ASEAN had committed to implement the 2002 agreement."This clearly shows that the essence of the proposal of the U.S. is already reflected in the DOC," Minh said. The Philippines accused China in May of reclaiming land on the disputed Johnson South Reef and said it appeared to be building an airstrip. LUKE 21:25-26
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;(MASS CONFUSION) the sea and the waves roaring;(FIERCE WINDS)
26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear,(TORNADOES,HURRICANES,STORMS) and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth:(DESTRUCTION) for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.(FROM QUAKES,NUKES ETC)

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Storm drenches Japan; 1 dead, dozens hurt-Associated Press-By MARI YAMAGUCHI-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS

TOKYO (AP) — A tropical storm moved out of Japan on Sunday after lashing the country with rain and wind, leaving one person dead and prompting evacuation orders for more than 1 million residents near swollen rivers.Tropical Storm Halong also disrupted land and air traffic and injured dozens of people as Japan began its annual "Obon" Buddhist holiday week.Originally a typhoon, Halong was downgraded to a tropical storm as it approached the southwest coast and made two landfalls — over Shikoku Island and Hyogo prefecture in western Japan. It exited over the Sea of Japan from the northern coast near Kyoto on Sunday evening, and was expected to lose further strength over the next 12 hours. The storm was off the northern coast of Wajima City, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) northwest of Tokyo, on Sunday night.Japan's Meteorological Agency lifted a heavy rain alert for Mie prefecture in central Japan, and evacuation orders for most residents in the region and other areas were withdrawn. About 200,000 people were still subject to evacuation in some areas, down from about 1.2 million earlier Sunday. In Iwate prefecture in northern Japan, a 78-year-old man was found dead late Saturday after plunging into a swollen irrigation canal at his farm, local police said. In the western prefecture of Wakayama, a surfer went missing.Public broadcaster NHK said 78 people were injured in the storm.Halong brought powerful rain and wind to Tokyo, where an annual fireworks show scheduled for Sunday was called off.More than 200 flights were canceled, stranding thousands of holidaymakers at airports around the country. The storm also flooded about 330 homes and damaged 70 others in western Japan. The meteorological agency said the storm, packing winds of up to 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour, was expected to dump more rain in eastern and northern Japan by Monday morning, and warned of landslides and floods.Japan was also shaken Sunday afternoon by a magnitude-6.1 earthquake that struck off the northeastern coast. There was no danger of a tsunami, and there were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage. The Nuclear Regulation Authority said nuclear facilities in the area remained intact.

Hurricane Julio not expected to threaten Hawaii-Associated Press-By JENNIFER SINCO KELLEHER and MANUEL VALDES-AUG 10,14-YAHOONEWS
HONOLULU (AP) — The National Weather Service says Hurricane Julio continues to move away from Hawaii and will not pose a threat on the heels of a damaging tropical storm.Meteorologist John Bravender says Julio is about 400 miles (640 kilometers) northeast of Honolulu. It has been downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane, the lowest level. It is packing winds of about 90 mph (145 kph). The forecast Sunday calls for the return of blue skies and sunshine for parts of the state.Bravender says Julio is affecting trade winds that usually keep the islands cool, so hot, muggy weather is expected through the first half of the week.Tropical Storm Iselle knocked out power and toppled trees on Hawaii's Big Island when it made landfall early Friday but largely spared the other islands. It was the first time in 22 years a tropical storm hit Hawaii.

AND ALSO TODAY (NOW GOING ON) THE SUPER MOON.
In June of last year, a full Moon made headlines.  The news media called it a "supermoon" because it was 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons of 2013.   Around the world, people went outside to marvel at its luminosity. If you thought one supermoon was bright, how about three….? The full Moons of summer 2014—July 12th, August 10th, and Sept. 9th--will all be supermoons.

A supermoon happens once or twice a year when the full moon is closer to Earth than during other full moons.

The next supermoon is around August 10, 2014.

What is a supermoon?

The distance from moon to Earth varies throughout the month and year. On average the distance is about 238,000 miles (382,900 kilometers). During a month, when the moon is furthest away from Earth it's called apogee, when the moon is closest to Earth it is called perigee. When the full moon coincides with being closest to Earth, or perigee, it is called a supermoon. Reversely, the term Micro Moon refers to a full moon that occurs when the moon is farthest from Earth, or apogee.
