An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday night targeted the home of senior Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar, security officials told the AFP news agency.There was no one in the house, in western Gaza City, at the time the airstrike hit, the security sources and witnesses said.Witnesses said at least two missiles hit Zahar's home, flattening the four-storey building and causing damage to the adjacent mosque and several neighboring houses.Israeli strikes also hit the home in western Gaza City of Bassem Naim, a senior Hamas official, and those of former health minister Fathi Hammad and Hamas MP Ismail al-Ashqar, both in Jabalia in the north.The airstrikes came hours after the IDF advised residents of several neighborhoods in northern Gaza to leave their homes ahead of an impending airstrike.“As part of our effort to avoid harming civilians, we are sending messages to residents of northern Gaza to leave homes for their own safety,” the IDF Spokesperson tweeted on Tuesday night.The IDF routinely warns innocent civilians ahead of an airstrike so that they are unharmed, whereas Hamas openly boasts about the "success" of its strategy of using civilians as human shields.Al-Zahar recently issued a direct threat against Israel, declaring that Hamas has rockets that can hit any city in Israel.He further said that during Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012, Hamas held a “dry run” in attacking Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The IDF has warned residents of northern Gaza to evacuate their homes, Al Arabiya reported on Tuesday night.According to the report, the warning was given to residents of the Sajaiya and Zeitoun neighborhoods. The IDF traditionally warns innocent civilians ahead of an airstrike so that they are unharmed.Earlier this week, the IDF dropped leaflets above northern Gaza and sent cell-phone messages to locals.The messages warned civilians to move away from Hamas terrorists and command centers, which pose a grave risk to their safety. An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday night targeted the home of senior Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar, security officials told the AFP news agency.There was no one in the house, in western Gaza City, at the time the airstrike hit, the security sources and witnesses said.Witnesses said at least two missiles hit Zahar's home, flattening the four-storey building and causing damage to the adjacent mosque and several neighboring houses.Israeli strikes also hit the home in western Gaza City of Bassem Naim, a senior Hamas official, and those of former health minister Fathi Hammad and Hamas MP Ismail al-Ashqar, both in Jabalia in the north.The airstrikes came hours after the IDF advised residents of several neighborhoods in northern Gaza to leave their homes ahead of an impending airstrike.“As part of our effort to avoid harming civilians, we are sending messages to residents of northern Gaza to leave homes for their own safety,” the IDF Spokesperson tweeted on Tuesday night.The IDF routinely warns innocent civilians ahead of an airstrike so that they are unharmed, whereas Hamas openly boasts about the "success" of its strategy of using civilians as human shields.Al-Zahar recently issued a direct threat against Israel, declaring that Hamas has rockets that can hit any city in Israel.He further said that during Operation Pillar of Defense in 2012, Hamas held a “dry run” in attacking Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Hamas is known to have test-fired long-range M-175 rockets that can reach Tel Aviv and even beyond that when fired from Gaza.It is believed that Al-Zahar and the other senior leaders of Hamas are hiding in underground bunkers.

The IDF has warned residents of northern Gaza to evacuate their homes, Al Arabiya reported on Tuesday night.According to the report, the warning was given to residents of the Sajaiya and Zeitoun neighborhoods. The IDF traditionally warns innocent civilians ahead of an airstrike so that they are unharmed.Earlier this week, the IDF dropped leaflets above northern Gaza and sent cell-phone messages to locals.The messages warned civilians to move away from Hamas terrorists and command centers, which pose a grave risk to their safety. Hamas urged Palestinian Arabs to ignore these warnings.During the current escalation, Hamas has openly boasted about the "success" of its strategy of using civilians as human shields, and the IDF has published extensive evidence of the practice.Meanwhile, AFP reported that three people were killed in two Israeli air strikes on Gaza on Tuesday night.One strike killed two men in a car in southern Rafiah, and a second in central Johr al-Deeq killed one man, emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told the news agency.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan fired more accusations at Israel on Tuesday, even after Israel accepted a cease-fire agreement that saw Hamas rain tens of missiles on innocent Israeli civilians in its wake."Israel is continuing to carry out state terrorism in the region. Nobody, except us, tells it to stop," Erdogan told members of his ruling party in parliament, accusing Israel of perpetrating a "massacre" of Palestinians."To what extent will the world remain silent to this state terrorism?" he asked. "What's the difference between this mentality and that of Hitler?"Meanwhile, over 30 rockets have rained on Israel in three hours on Tuesday, after Israel accepted a cease-fire proposal from Egypt and agreed to halt its self-defense operation, Operation Protective Edge. Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zahri reiterated shortly after the truce announcement that it is uninterested in attacking the Israeli civilian population - despite the fact that all of Hamas's rockets have been aimed at civilian population centers. OTTAWA - Canada's foreign affairs minister says the refusal by Hamas to honour an Egyptian-sponsored ceasefire in Gaza makes it clear the group has no interest in peace.Israel resumed bombardment of Gaza on Tuesday after Hamas rejected the truce plan and instead unleashed more rocket barrages at the Jewish state.Minister John Baird told a news conference the battle isn't between the Palestinian people and Israel or even the Palestinian Authority and Israel — rather it's a fight between Hamas and a country trying to defend its people."It is a conflict between an international terrorist organization and the Jewish state," he said Tuesday. "Hamas started this bloodshed.
