MIAMI (AP) — Alberto is holding on to tropical storm strength as it spins east off the coast of Florida.
Alberto's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 kph) Monday evening with some weakening expected during the next two days.The
storm is centered about 225 miles (362 kilometers) east of
Jacksonville, Fla. Alberto is moving east near 8 mph (13 kph) but is
expected to turn northeastward sometime in the next two days before
fizzling out.Alberto is expected to stay offshore of the Carolinas and Georgia coast.Meanwhile
in the Pacific, a tropical depression far south of Mexico's coast is
expected to strengthen to a tropical storm. The depression's maximum
sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 kph). It's centered about 510 miles
(821 kilometers) south of Acapulco, Mexico.

HOT WEEK AHEAD…
This last full week of May will feature above average temperatures
with increasing winds by mid-week. As for rain chances, slim to none.
And the slim chance comes this evening and tomorrow. Average high for
this time of year is around 85 to 86 degrees.
THIS EVENING…
There is a weak cold front that has slid just south of DFW this
afternoon. You wouldn’t know it because temperatures are still very
warm. But there was a subtle wind shift with winds light out of the
North here this afternoon. There is a small chance a few very isolated
showers and thunderstorms could pop up this evening, but the chance is
less than 20%.
TOMORROW…
This cold front will move back north as a warm front tomorrow. There
is a slim chance a storm could develop along that front tomorrow, but
again rain chances will be less than 20%.
WEDNESDAY THRU THE WEEKEND…
Winds will increase out of the south starting on Wednesday and it
will remain breezy thru the weekend with south winds generally 15 to 25
mph each day. Temperatures will heat up too. We will see highs in the
90 to 93 degree range Wednesday thru the weekend and even on Memorial
Day. No rain chances at all during this time frame.

U.N. observers see Syrian forces kill two: rebels

AMMAN (Reuters) - Syrian police killed two people on Tuesday when they opened fire on a crowd who came out to welcome United Nations observers in the eastern province of Deir al-Zor, a rebel official said.
"As soon as the
U.N. convoy entered al-Busaira, a jubilant crowd of hundreds came out to
welcome them. It was not minutes before they came under fire," Abu
Laila, a Free Syrian Army official, said by phone from the town."The observers
immediately left al-Busaira. We called them to come back but they
refused," he said, adding that fighting ensued between President Bashar al-Assad's forces and rebels based in the town.
There was no independent confirmation of the incident.Another opposition source in the province said that
government forces surrounding al-Busaira had begun firing anti-aircraft
guns at the town.Government troops have been battling a widening uprising against Assad for 14 months.Al-Busaira is one
of many towns and villages under rebel control in Deir al-Zor, a large
oil-producing province bordering Iraq, that have been attacked
repeatedly in the last four months by government troops trying to regain
control.Assad, a member of Syria's
Alawite minority, had relied on a network of alliances with Sunni
