Pyongyang had been in talks with the United States on food aid, but they stopped because of Kim Jong Il's death.The United Nations has said a quarter of North Korea's 24 million people need outside food aid and that malnutrition is surging, especially among children.The North's message said organic farming methods should be used and that farming machinery and materials should be provided, but it did not go into specifics for improving food supplies.The message, carried in a joint editorial in the Rodong Sinmun, Joson Inmingun and Chongnyon Jonwi newspapers, said North Korea must build on the foundations laid last year and turn itself into an economic giant.The power and coal industries also will be a focus and the North Korean capital Pyongyang will be turned into a world class city, it said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.Northeastern Japan was devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 that left nearly 20,000 people dead or missing. McDONALD, Ohio (AP) — Officials said Saturday they believe the latest earthquake activity in northeast Ohio is related to the injection of wastewater into the ground near a fault line, creating enough pressure to cause seismic activity.The brine wastewater comes from drilling operations that use the so-called fracking process to extract gas from underground shale. But Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Jim Zehringer said during a news teleconference that fracking is not causing the quakes.The seismic events are not a direct result of fracking, he said.

Environmentalists and property owners who live near gas drilling wells have questioned the safety of fracking to the environment and public health. Federal regulators have declared the technology safe, however.Zehringer said four injection wells within a 5-mile (8-kilometer) radius of an already shuttered well in Youngstown will remain inactive while further scientific research is conducted.A 4.0 magnitude quake Saturday afternoon in McDonald, outside of Youngstown, was the 11th in a series of minor earthquakes in area, many of which have struck near the Youngstown injection well. The quake caused no serious injuries or property damage, Zehringer said.Thousands of gallons of brine were injected into the well daily until its owner, Northstar Disposal Services LLC, agreed Friday to stop injecting brine into the earth as a precaution while authorities assess any potential links to the quakes.Michael Hansen of the Ohio Seismic Network said Saturday that more quakes are possible, most likely small ones, until the pressure at the fault line has been completely relieved.The temblor Saturday appeared to be stronger than others, which generally had a magnitude of 2.7 or lower. A seven-year-old Indian girl was murdered in a tribal sacrifice and her liver offered to the gods to improve crop growth, police in the central state of Chhattisgarh said on Sunday.The body of Lalita Tati was found in October one week after her family reported her missing.A seven-year-old girl was sacrificed by two persons superstitiously believing that the act would give a better harvest, Narayan Das, the police chief of Bijapur district, told AFP by telephone.The two men was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of killing the girl and offering her liver to the gods in a grisly tribal ceremony. Police said the men had confessed to the crime.

The girl was murdered in a jungle district of Chhattisgarh that is a stronghold of rebel Maoists who have tapped into disaffection among local tribal groups.Human sacrifices occasionally make headlines in deeply religious and superstitious India, and usually occur in poor areas where some people revere practitioners of black magic.Two suspected child sacrifices were reported in Chhattisgarh in 2010, while in the same year the decapitated body of a factory worker was found in a temple in the eastern state of West Bengal.The victims are often ritually killed by witchdoctors to appease gods, spirits or deities.

Seventeen dead as Syrians stage mass protests Beirut: Syrian security forces, undaunted by the presence of Arab League observers, have killed at least 12 protesters as hundreds of thousands demonstrated against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, opposition activists said.Five members of the security forces were also killed in a shooting in the city of Homs, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Friday.Assad, 46, has signed up to an Arab League plan for a verifiable withdrawal of his troops and heavy weaponry from towns and cities, where they have been trying to crush protests that have raged since March.But the presence of Arab League monitors in hotspots across Syria since Monday has, if anything, energised the protesters, while provoking scepticism in Western countries.

Demonstrators determined to show the scale of their movement to the monitors threw rocks at security forces in the Damascus suburb of Douma, where troops tear-gassed the chanting crowds.Five people were shot dead in the city of Hama and five in the city of Deraa as crowds braved army and police, the Observatory reported, adding that at least two dozen people had been injured in Douma.We are determined to show them (the monitors) we exist. Whether or not there's bloodshed is not important, an activist named Abu Khaled said by phone from the northern city of Idlib.Most foreign media are banned from Syria and witness reports and videos are hard to verify. An opposition supporter named Manhal said thousands had tried to reach the main square of Idlib to start a sit-in but failed because the security forces are firing a lot of tear gas and a few rounds of live fire.People hoped the presence of monitors will prevent fierce attacks. Obama has yanked our soldiers back out of Iran and Afghanistan, manipulating whatever kiss up factor he can gain from the progressive left. Obama’s concerned leftists have been mad at him this whole time because he hasn’t stopped the war and brought our troops home. So, at the right, politically expedient, Saul Alinsky moment, Obama yanked them home and in doing so has turned our sure victories into certain defeats, while ignoring General after General and simple common sense. Shame on him.Now, we hear, thanks to www.france24.com, now that our troops are gone out of Iraq that top figures are warning of a push for dictatorship and civil war. Just like with Obama’s betrayal of Egypt, while Muslim Brotherhood swooped in and long time alley, Hosni Mubarak was thrown out, now radicals circle their wagons around Iraq. After all, America is gone….just as Obama would have it.Another disaster looming, among coming disasters in Afghanistan is the pathetic lack of leadership regarding their first big oil contract. CNN money states that China got the deal, offering the best offer, giving Afghanistan 85% of the profit and giving China 15%. Also in the bidding were Britain, Australia and the US. How in God’s green earth did the US not win this bid and do an oil deal with Afghanistan when we have spent hundreds of billions to free them and rebuild their country??? What incredible lack of leadership in the Obama regime would dare to allow such a thing and not make sure the US offered the best deal and won? It is as if, sabotage reigns to destroy any political, economic and military advantage with us and Afghanistan after hundreds of billions have been spent to fight Islamic terror there, free the people and help them rebuild.Obama continues to do whatever he can to promote radical Islamic leadership change throughout the Middle East. Obama is pressing Congress to release the remaining 147 million from the previous budget cycle, in which US aid to the Palestinians was to be $545.7 million. According to the AP lawmakers are pushing for Palestinian bid for UN membership and have now freed up 20% of 187 million for that goal.

Lets see what we have as 2012 approaches

Obama has long ago given Islamic radical and terrorist group HAMAS over 900 million dollars.Never mind that the 40 million dollars is aiding a dangerous scheme by the left and Palestinians to force their way in as a voting member of the UN and be deemed a country. Damn that this boldly increases the danger to Israel and that the ability for Palestine to attack Israel and get away with it from an international viewpoint. Bottom line….Damn Israel.We have already been enlightened by Obama during Arab Spring when Obama and Hillary immediately betrayed long time alley Hosni Mubarak in Egypt and rallied behind Islamic terrorist group Muslim Brotherhood. It is as if Obama wanted radical Islamics to control Egypt and bring more danger to Israel, the West and Middle East. All over the Middle East Obama has backed Muslim Brotherhood and other radical Islamic groups who continue to threaten, attack and murder Jews, Christians and anyone of difference. Why would a REAL President of the US want to give Islamic radicals, like Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, Palestinian leadership or any other name they hide behind, any support or money until they first show bold and verified signs to the US, UN and world that they will stop their threats and attacks on Israel, people of difference and the world? This will never happen with Obama at the helm because I believe he is aiding international Muslim and global elite take over.

A real President who loves America and freedom would harshly rebuke Islam and Sharia law until they stop the sound bites and really show American and the UN reforms. Perhaps the Saudis could start by changing their high school textbooks found for 10th graders that show in graphic detail how to cut off the hands and feet of a thief. 2012 is about to come hurtling into our lives. If the coming New Year could be defined, before even being played out, it would be called The Year of the Scare.
With a myriad of sources vying to capture the attention of everyday people, it will get very difficult sorting out what is true and what is false.Stories about government watch lists will join warnings about coming communication blackouts, the death of the worldwide web, the return of the plague, contagious influenza with the power to kill off world populations, bloody revolutions on the street imposed by shady powers behind the well-funded, media darling Occupy Wall Street (OWS) Movement.

By the time a modern day Samuel Pepys happens along to make sense of it all, events will have frightened some people from coming out of their homes.People are being deliberately kept on the edge. People kept on the edge are not as productive as they would be on an even playing field.Seeping already into the ongoing exchange of ideas is a strong sense of embitterment that can be seen on website comment sections, and one steadily making enemies of longtime friends.Political arguments are gathering heat, and screaming matches are replacing what were once only political disagreements.Over the months leading up to Election Year, a not-so-subtle shift has taken place.Thanks to the embittered Clintons, carping Hollywood stars, and all those ready to blame their personal life failures on anyone else, the Enemy of the State was George Bush, who political replacement Barack Obama has done a stellar job keeping blame on for the steady decline of the United States of America.
But blaming Bush is only an astroturfed political convenience. The biggest and most dangerous shift that has come into the public arena is the one that lets off the hook the first and only president who has publicly promised the fundamental Transformation of America.

How does this shift survive in the light of day? How did it happen that more heated opinion and embitterment follow presidential candidates than the man under whose watch the economy failed, the free market was effectively suppressed and where jobs disappeared into a sink hole and still disappear daily? The United Nations has come up with several influenza scares since Obama took office.With the mainstream media now dancing along the same party trail as some of the major conspiracy theorists, how to distinguish between truth and propaganda? The Dry Arab Spring and the Lost Left

All it takes to understand why the Arab Spring was doomed to turn into an Islamic Winter is that Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa were being asked to choose between a Socialist left and an Islamic right. The left has consistently lost open elections in Europe and America, it lost the battle of ideas in Russia and China, and unsurprisingly it also lost the Arab Spring.

The left wields power in the West only because it has managed to seize control of political and cultural institutions. Those institutions are used to maintain a death grip on the national dialogue, to criminalize dissent and to feed money to its supporters who are often literally paid to continue supporting it, whether in government contracts, welfare checks or organizational benefits. If the left did not have its media, its unions and its flow of supportive immigrants, then it would be just another bunch of cranks.The Western left expected that overthrowing the dictators would pave the way for their favorite leftists to take over. Instead, it wasn’t the bloggers or the twitter activists who are ahead, it’s the Islamists. To be fair to the left, many of its key foreign policy people did know that this would happen but were lying about it. They aren’t idiots, they’re traitors.I doubt that anyone at the State Department with a background in the Middle East didn’t know that the Muslim Brotherhood would surge in Egyptian elections or that the organization had numerous affiliates waiting to exploit the Arab Spring. The same goes for all the ex-diplomats holding down organizational positions in groups dedicated to promoting democracy in the region or writing articles for foreign policy journals.

They knew that the liberal bloggers were an expendable way to sell the Arab Spring to the West, but that the final victory would belong to the Islamists. And they know it now, even as they keep lying that the Islamists are moderate and that their victories are only a temporary phenomenon until the local left gets its bearings. Some are working directly or indirectly for the Gulf Arab states, but quite a few are following the Western left’s methodology of using the Clash of Civilizations to bring down the empire of Western civilization.How could anyone have believed that the Middle Eastern left would have won when it has absolutely nothing to offer? El Baradei’s Kefaya movement and the unacknowledged party of many of the twitter activists got its start protesting against America and Israel. How was it supposed to have anything to offer Egyptians beyond the same negative energy that the Muslim Brotherhood could do so much better. If you’re an Egyptian who wants a war with Israel, are you going to trust a simpering puppet like El Baradei to get it done or are you going to cast your vote for the Brotherhood or the Salafis.Kefaya was in the peculiar position of being the American backed Anti-American movement, its activists trained by the Western left, and with Western leaders demanding that El Baradei be appointed to run a transition government. Kefaya smelled a lot like a puppet regime that constantly denounced its puppeteers and that schizophrenic identity didn’t give it much credibility as a revolutionary party.All that left were economic reforms which are not exactly the left’s strong suit and not very popular. The average Egyptian wants cheaper food and more jobs, but he doesn’t want the process that would make it happen. The Russians quickly turned on the reformers who then turned over the country to the KGB. Netanyahu’s reforms have been as unpopular as they were necessary, but the focus on terrorism and the implosion of the left, as well as the popularity of Sharon, allowed him to do what had to be done. Despite the rise of the Tea Party, the reform proposals in America are not faring any better.

People like the idea of reforms, but they don’t like giving up subsidies or the uncertainty and chaos of the transition to a truer free market system. And the Middle Eastern left are not exactly plausible candidates for economic reform. Had Gamal Mubarak and Saif Gaddafi ever taken power, it is likely that they would have opened up their countries more than any of their revolutionary successors will.The old Arab Socialists could promise national greatness, but the New Arab Left which lacked the military uniforms or the example of the Soviet Union as a model for the region, had nothing of the kind on tap. All they could do was try to sell social justice minus Islam, but not in opposition to Islam and not as a rejection of Islam—and that went over about as well as could be expected.In the United States or Europe a contest between the New Left and the Conservative Right would have provided palatable political options. In the Muslim Middle East it meant a debate over who would offer more subsidies, hate America more and restore the lost dream of national greatness that bedevils the Muslim world.The Middle Eastern left is not secular, it’s not reformist, it’s not populist—it’s not, to put it bluntly, much of anything except in the opposition. It was useful only as the opposition, it allowed educated men and women with a sense of humor and some culture to act as the ambassadors of the Arab Spring to gullible Western journalists who didn’t seem to realize that the reason all these young people were so Westernized is because they are members of the upper classes and live in a bubble of imported Western culture and education. Now they’ve done their jobs and their only accomplishment was to pave the way for the Islamists to come to power. Despite their Western veneer, many of them can live with that, particularly those who had personal or familial grudges to settle with the old regime.

The real problem with the Arab Spring has been the lack of any domestic alternative to the Islamists. For all the talk about exporting American democracy, all we really did was subsidize local leftist NGO’s and fly out bloggers to talk about reform. Could we imagine NOW and DailyKos taking power in America in open elections, and if not, then what were the odds that was going to happen in a Muslim country where people like that are much less representative than they are here.America’s way of life derives from a culture of personal independence that can’t be exported along with its institution. It was a country built by farmers, merchants and rebels who had their fill of lords and laws. The conservative reflex in American politics derives from that culture and it creates a base of opposition to the left. Anti-Monarchism is to American conservatism what Monarchism is to European conservatism, and what Islamism is to the Muslim world. It’s the memory that people reach for when they imagine the better way of life that used to be.This was always the flaw in the neo-conservative program which imagined that the American reflex of independence was universal and that it derived from free and open elections, rather than from the culture of a nation built by people looking to escape oppressive governments.

Democracy does not mean freedom, it means the freedom to choose. What exactly was the Muslim world likely to choose and what choices did it really have? Its domestic left is a joke and its Islamist parties are polished liars who have the money and contacts to create temporary economic booms that allow them to become entrenched and purge their rivals.The Arab Spring had dried up a long time ago. There were no palatable regional alternatives to the Islamists, no philosophy with a regional grip that could counter it, and even the left hesitated to be actual alternatives to the Islamists, fully embracing a secular vision for their countries. Everything that happened was inevitable and it will happen again so long as the region is so barren that even when there is the freedom to choose, there is still nothing worth choosing.

Palestine - Bye Bye Oslo, Hullo Jordan and Egypt

Veteran Middle East correspondent Robert Fisk may have been a little premature when he stated on 20 September:It’s over: the peace process, the road map, the Oslo agreement; the whole fandango is history.Personally, I think Palestine is a fantasy state, impossible to create now that the Israelis have stolen so much of the Arabs’ land for their colonial projects.Fisk - in attributing this simplistic reason for signing Oslo’s death certificate - totally ignored the two offers made by Israel in 2001 and 2008 to cede its claims under the Mandate for Palestine and the United Nations Charter in more than 90% of the land won from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War.

The real reasons for Oslo’s demise are far deeper and more complex - revealing unbridgeable gaps between Israel and the PLO in reaching any agreement with regard to the following issues after failed on and off negotiations extending over the last 19 years:Israel’s demands that
Israel be recognized as the Jewish State
Any Palestinian State be demilitarized
The final borders determined between it and a Palestinian State be secure and recognized boundaries as stipulated by United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338 the PLO’s demands that Israel cede its claims in 100% of the territory won from Jordan in the 1967 War - with possibly equivalent land swaps to negate the removal of Jews from their homes in the West Bank and East Jerusalem
Israel agree to accept millions of Palestinian Arabs - and their descendants - who became refugees as a result of the 1948 War

Fisk’s prediction has however been given added weight with the news this week that Hamas has agreed to join the PLO.

If this was to actually occur Israel’s Prime Minister made his government’s position very clear when Israel Radio reportedly quoted him as saying that if Hamas joins the Palestinian government, he would refuse to conduct peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority.Little comfort can be taken from the news that the Palestinian Authority might now be prepared to resume the long stalled peace negotiations with Israel if it released 100 prisoners. The parties can talk till the cows come in. But after 19 fruitless years - can sufficient pressure be put on both sides to come to an agreement on all their outstanding demands? The Oslo Accords - and the Palestinian Authority - were born amid great enthusiasm in 1993.The Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee - Francis Sejersted - expressed the following hopes of the Committee when awarding the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize jointly to Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzchak Rabin

In the committee’s view, the so-called Oslo Accords concluded last year between Israel and the PLO meant that developments in the Middle East had taken a new turning. What was revolutionary about them was the de facto mutual recognition by the two parties. Not least by virtue of that recognition, the accords opened up a possible way out of the vicious circle of violence breeding violence, and towards peaceful co-existence.The Nobel Committee’s optimism was misplaced.Yasser Arafat had signed a side letter dated 9 September 1993 - nine days prior to signing the Declaration of Principles in which he assured Yitzchak Rabin:The signing of the Declaration of Principles marks a new era…I would like to confirm the following PLO commitments: The PLO recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist in peace and security. The PLO accepts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The PLO commits itself…to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations…the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators…the PLO affirms that those articles of the Palestinian Covenant which deny Israel’s right to exist, and the provisions of the Covenant which are inconsistent with the commitments of this letter are now inoperative and no longer valid. Consequently, the PLO undertakes to submit to the Palestinian National Council for formal approval the necessary changes in regard to the Palestinian Covenant.

In breach of those commitments:
The PLO Covenant still remains unchanged and unrevised in 2011.
The PLO has rejected the idea of Israel being entitled to secure and recognized borders as required under Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338
The PLO has unilaterally sought to gain statehood - not through negotiations - but by seeking recognition and admission to the United Nations and UNESCO.
The PLO is demanding pre-conditions for resuming the stalled negotiations with Israel.

Indeed one would be unable to find any improvement in the relationship between Israel and the PLO in 2011 to that which existed in 1994 when Mr Serjested declared:
The situation is still full of tension, marked by violence, killings, and insecurity, and stability is still far to seek
The PLO has been given its opportunity for the last 19 years to create a second Arab state in former Palestine - in addition to Jordan - but quite frankly has missed the boat.Martin Sherman has summed up the current situation in these terms:For almost two decades after the Oslo Accords—despite massive financial aid and political support—they have produced nothing but a deeply divided entity, crippled by corruption and cronyism.The result is a dysfunctional polity unable to conduct even the semblance of timely elections, and a puny economy, comprising a minuscule private sector and a bloated public one, totally unsustainable without massive infusions of foreign funds.Sherman’s prescription to abandon Oslo and the two-state solution predicated by the Bush Roadmap is described by him as follows :Since the geography is immutable, the focus must be on the demography.It is thus no more than “elementary” that the long-term preservation of the Jewish state must involve the relocation of the non-Israeli Arabs between the river and the sea. Any other option is self-deluded wishful thinking—or at least the burden of proof to show otherwise is on the proponents of such an option, especially in view of the post-Oslo/post-disengagement experiences.I beg to differ.

Restoring the status quo at 4 June 1967 - as far as can now be done in direct negotiations between Israel and Jordan (and possibly Egypt) and within the framework of Security Council resolutions 242 and 338 and their existing peace treaties - will involve no-one - Arab or Jew - having to leave his current home unless he voluntarily wishes to do so.This is not self-deluded wishful thinking - but It will need some pressure by the Quartet - America, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations - to be placed on Jordan and Egypt to sit down and negotiate with Israel if they refuse to do so voluntarily.The alternative-continued tension, violence, insecurity, killings and instability - cannot be allowed to deteriorate into an inevitable slide into open warfare.To hope for anything else as we usher in 2012 is pure folly.

G-d Went Into Gaza

Miracles in Gaza is the name of this very inspiring video. Like an onion, there are layers and layers one can peel to see different aspects of Israel. Right now, Israel just finished celebrating the miraculous and joyful holiday of Chanukah, and school has started back as of today. The news is rife with a group of violent Haredi extremists called the Sikrikim. We need more rain in Israel. The Arab Spring is turning into a winter. And in international news, Iran is still a major worry to Israel and the West. Peel away all the brown paper lining of the onion, and one remembers that G-d put the Jewish people here in Israel for a purpose, and He promises us that He will be with us if we keep the Torah. It's a miracle, that we in Israel can live, go to school, shop in malls, celebrate birthdays and weddings, barbecue in our yards, learn at universities, travel on vacation, and pursue our hobbies and interests, when we are surrounded by hundreds of millions of Jew-hating Islamists who want to slit our throats and throw us into the sea. It's a miracle that we are alive here, and even more of a miracle that we survive so WELL here with a special quality of life, despite the glassy-eyed, salivating, rag heads out there with sharpened knives that surround us.

While we have a lot we can worry or complain about, we have a lot we need to be grateful for too. We need to remember how blessed we are, and that living in this tough neighborhood of the Middle East, that G-d is still with us. We just need to look for Him. -And sometimes we can't help but see Him and His handiwork.Now, watch this inspiring video, of how G-d accompanied our soldiers into battle. I don't think I got teary-eyed because my own son is now in the paratroopers. I got teary-eyed because I too can get distracted by all the 'buzz' of the news, the kvetching, the arguments, etc... and forget to see the bigger picture. You decide for yourself where you choose to stand, and what you choose to perceive when you look at life in Israel. But always remember, G-d is with you where you let Him be, where you make space for Him. He will even go into battle with our sons in Gaza.

Lebanon Cannot Get Its Story Right on Arms to Syria-Lebanon is trying to stay out of the Syrian troubles, but Syria and Hizbullah are allies and the latter backs Syria's propaganda line.By Amiel Ungar First Publish: 12/30/2011, 4:45 AM

The Assad regime in Syria has long ignored Lebanese sovereignty and used the porous Syrian Lebanese border as a conduit for smuggling arms to Damascus' allies in Lebanon and most notably the Hizbullah.There is therefore an element of poetic justice to hear the Assad regime blaming Lebanon for allowing Al Qaeda terrorists to infiltrate Syria via Lebanon.Syria has blamed Al Qaeda for the double car bomb attack last Friday that killed 44 people and wounded more than 100. The Syrian opposition accuses the Assad regime of staging the atrocity to backstop its claim that it was fighting international Islamic terrorism rather than dissidents.Lebanon's problem is complicated by the fact that his cabinet is dominated by Assad's Hizbullah allies. This gave rise to a comic exchange when the Lebanese Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn said last week that al Qaeda insurgents were operating on the border disguised as Syrian opposition activists.Syria's envoy to Beirut picked up Ghosn's accusation and urged the Lebanese government to crack down on cross-border arms smuggling that aided and abetted the terrorism.In an interview with the Hizbullah-run website Al-Intiqad, Ambassador Ali Abdelkarim Ali urged Lebanon to initiate serious, strict measures to end arms smuggling from Lebanon into Syria.

The interior minister then contradicted his defense minister, denying the presence of al Qaeda in Lebanon.Prime Minister Najib Mikati tried to reconcile the two positions by saying that there was no evidence that al Qaeda militants were operating in Lebanon It's not the first time there are differences of opinions inside the government,he said. The interior minister said he had no information. The defense minister said he had some information but not complete proof.The area named by Ghosn and Syria as the smuggling center into Syria is Aarsal, adjacent to the Syrian city of Homs. Aarsal is loyal to opposition leader Rafiq Hariri. In general, the Sunni north of Lebanon supports the Sunnis against the Alawite clan of Bashar Assad.Lebanon's Western-backed opposition denounced Ghosn as a minister for the defense of the Assad regime for his accusations and claimed that Syria had violated Lebanese sovereignty by firing at refugees fleeing the Assad crackdown and condemned the government for doing nothing.MP Ahmad Fatfat of Hariri's Future Bloc said on Thursday that the army is present [in the northern town of Akkar], but not present directly at the border with Syria, which means that there is no [political] decision for it to be deployed there.Fatfat told Future News TV that the only beneficiary of the chaos [at the border] is the Syrian regime.In an interesting twist, he claimed that just as South Lebanon spawned a resistance against Israel it was necessary to do the same against Assad.
