Politicians Warn Against PA State
by Hillel Fendel MAR 26,11
The upcoming UN General Assembly session in September, where many countries are poised to recognize a Palestinian state, does not bode well for Israel.Even Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who, as Prime Minister in 1998, once offered Yasser Arafat close to 98% of Judea, Samaria and Gaza for such a state, is concerned. In a speech last week, Barak said he considers this scenario a political tsunami against Israel. He even said that this political development will carry a strong element of de-legitimizing the State of Israel.As opposed to an increasing number of politicians, however, his solution, was not to try to head off its formation – but only to remove its unilateral nature. He accused his boss, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, of not being more forthcoming in negotiations with the PA, and said Israel must express immediate willingness to discuss issues such as final borders, Jerusalem, and the settlement of Arab refugees.
Politicians Against PLO State
Many other politicians, however, are not willing to entertain the possibility of a Palestinian state at all, unilaterally or otherwise. MK Anastasia Michaeli, for instance, of the Israel Our Home party, said this week that she and her party are doing all we can to prevent… the formation of a hostile and belligerent state in Judea and Samaria.Also last week, coalition whip and Likud faction chairman MK Zev Elkin, visiting post-massacre Itamar, stated strongly that "there is no place for a Palestinian state, not in temporary borders and not in any other configuration.The grassroots Mattot Arim organization, based in Raanana, recently urged its members to work strongly against Israel's upcoming big military mistake, namely turning Area A into a Palestinian state.
Can Israel Override PLO Army?
The organization explained, Even today, there is a Palestinian army in Area A. However, when this Palestinian army gets completely out of hand - for example, in 2002 when its members participated in horrendous terror attacks - the IDF simply retracts the PA army's freedom of operation, partially or completely, for a few hours or for many months. [On the other hand,] once there is a Palestinian state, the IDF will no longer be able to cast it or its army aside, temporarily or permanently, even after that state or army becomes heavily involved in terrorism.
Similarly, Arab-world expert Dr. Mordechai Kedar of Bar Ilan University wrote this week that Israel has only a little time left before the General Assembly session to convince the world how dangerous a Palestinian state would be, not only to Israel but also to its neighbors.
Conditions Not Fulfilled
Kedar wrote that though Netanyahu laid down two conditions for his acceptance of an Arab state in Judea and Samaria, neither of these two conditions appears to be materializing. They were that the PA must recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish nation, and that any future PA state must be demilitarized. Palestinian spokesmen repeat day and night that they would not dream of recognizing the State of Israel as the Jewish national home,Kedar wrote, and added that the recent capture of large shipments of weapons bound for Gaza show that the Arabs strongly intend to arm the PA entity to the teeth with the longest-range, most modern weaponry.Ten days ago, Likud MK Yariv Levin reported to his constituents his recent efforts against the formation of a Palestinian state. Having gone on record as being diametrically opposed to recognizing a Palestinian state, he said he had raised this issue in the last two Likud faction meetings, and in a personal conversation earlier this year with Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon.A week earlier, Yaalon himself, who also serves as Strategic Affairs Minister, told an interviewer that he hopes it is incorrect that Netanyahu said he intends to offer the PA a state with temporary borders.Last month, Deputy Prime Minister and former Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom went so far as to hint that he might leave the government were it to agree to the formation of a PA state. Shalom told the weekly B’Sheva newspaper that although Netanyahu is talking about such a state, in our system of government, determinations are made by governmental decision, and there is no such government decision. I have never spoken about a Palestinian state and for as long as it is possible to influence the decision making process in the government, and for as long as no decision has been made that contradicts my position, I am in the government.
Netanyahu Against PA State
Netanyahu himself made perhaps the clearest case against a Palestinian state, when he addressed the Likud Central Committee in May 2002. Such an entity, he said, will demand all the powers of a state, such as controlling borders, bringing in weapons, control of airspace and the ability to knock down any Israeli plane that enters its area, the ability to sign peace treaties and military alliances with other countries. Once you give them a state, you give them all these things, even if there is an agreement to the contrary - for within a short time they will demand all these things, and they will assume these powers, and the world will stand by and do nothing - but it will stop us from trying to stop them.We will thus have created with our own hands a threat to our very existence, Netanyahu continued. What will happen if the Palestinians do what the Germans did after World War I, when they nullified the demilitarized zone? The world did nothing then, and the world will do nothing now as well. Even now, the Palestinians are removing all the restrictions to which they agreed in Oslo – they are smuggling in arms, polluting the water sources, building an army, making military deals with Iran and others, and more… But when we try to take action against this, the world opposes us – and not them...Netanyahu quoted Yasser Arafat: Arafat said it best when talking to reporters the day he signed the Oslo Accords: Since we can't defeat Israel in war, we must do it in stages, we must take whatever area of Palestine we can get, establish sovereignty there, and then at the right time, we will have to convince the Arab nations to join us in dealing the final blow to Israel.Self-rule, yes. But a state with which to destroy the State of Israel - no...Netanyahu continued, When Arafat threatened to declare a Palestinian state in 1999, I announced at the United Nations that if he did so, we would annex broad areas of Judea,Samaria and Gaza – and Arafat capitulated.Might Netanyahu today follow his own advice from 2002? On matters vital to our existence,he concluded in 2002,we always took clear action, even if others didn’t agree with us. Because the bottom line is that saying Yes to a Palestinian state means No to a Jewish State, and vice-versa.(IsraelNationalNews.com)
Iron Dome Defense To Start Working Sunday in Southern Israel
MAR 26,11
Arutz Sheva reporter Kobi Finkler reported that the IDF will be installing two operative stations of the Iron Dome anti-missile system in southern Israel tomorrow, three months earlier than the date set for their operation.The IDF reported: This week we held several trials to check the system’s preparedness and their success has resulted in our being able to operate the system, starting tomorrow.Meanwhile, Gazan terrorist organizations held a meeting on Saturday evening and announced that they are willing to agree to stop launching missiles towards Israel if Israel agrees to stop its air and artillery attacks on Gaza.They did not allude to the many such offers they have broken nor to the fact that Israel’s military actions are retaliatory and preventive in nature, a result of the barrages of mortar fire, rockets and even several grad missiles that reached Beer Sheva, Ashkelon and Ashdod last week.Hamas’ spokesman in Gaza said, We guarantee a ceasefire if the occupation forces’ guarantee the same and added that the Hamas would see to it that the ceasefire is enforced. Another spokesman told the Israeli radio station, Radio Kol Chai, that the ball is now in Israel's court.This evening (Saturday) a kassam rocket from Gaza exploded in an open area in the Eshkol regional authority’s jurisdiction. There was no one wounded and no damage resulted. On Friday night, two kassam rockets were fired on Israel from Gaza. One exploded inside a community in the Eshkol region and severely damaged a home. The next door house also sustained damage, although no one was hurt. The second rocket landed in an empty area.Youngsters will be going back to school tomorrow in Beer Sheva, Ashdod and Ashkelon after schools were closed in response to last week's grad missiles.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Engineers toil to pump out Japan plant
By Yoko Kubota - MAR 26,11
TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese engineers struggled on Sunday to pump radioactive water from a crippled nuclear power station after radiation levels soared in seawater near the plant more than two weeks after it was battered by a huge earthquake and a tsunami.Tests on Friday showed iodine 131 levels in seawater 30 km (19 miles) from the coastal nuclear complex had spiked 1,250 times higher than normal but it was not considered a threat to marine life or food safety, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said.Ocean currents will disperse radiation particles and so it will be very diluted by the time it gets consumed by fish and seaweed, said Hidehiko Nishiyama, a senior agency official.Despite that reassurance, the disclosure is likely to heighten international concern over Japanese seafood exports. Several countries have already banned milk and produce from areas around the Fukushima Daiichi plant, while others have been monitoring Japanese seafood.Prolonged efforts to prevent a catastrophic meltdown at the 40-year-old plant have also intensified concern around the world about nuclear power. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said it was time to reassess the international atomic safety regime.The crisis at the plant, 240 km (150 miles) north of Tokyo, has overshadowed a big relief and recovery effort from the magnitude 9.0 quake and the huge tsunami it triggered on March 11 that left more than 27,100 people dead or missing in northeast Japan.Engineers trying to stabilize the plant have to pump out radioactive water after it was found in buildings housing three of the six reactors.On Thursday, three workers were taken to hospital from reactor No. 3 after stepping in water with radiation levels 10,000 times higher than usually found in a reactor. That raised fear the core's container could be damaged.
An official from plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) told a Sunday news conference experts still had to determine where to put some of the contaminated water while engineers were still trying to fully restore the plant's power.TEPCO said it was using fresh water instead of seawater to cool down at least some of the reactors after concern arose that salt deposits might hamper the cooling process.Two of the plant's reactors are now seen as safe but the other four are volatile, occasionally emitting steam and smoke. However, the nuclear safety agency said on Saturday that temperature and pressure in all reactors had stabilized.The government has said the situation was nowhere near to being resolved, although it was not deteriorating.We are preventing the situation from worsening -- we've restored power and pumped in fresh water -- and making basic steps toward improvement but there is still no room for complacency, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference on Saturday.More than 700 engineers have been toiling in shifts but there's no end in sight.Aftershocks that have jolted the region since March 11 have been tailing off. One on Sunday of magnitude 4.2 hit near the stricken plant but there were no reports of further damage.
FISHING INDUSTRY OBLITERATED
At Three Mile Island, the worst nuclear power accident in the United States, workers took just four days to stabilize the reactor, which suffered a partial meltdown. No one was injured and there was no radiation release above the legal limit.At Chernobyl in Ukraine, the worst nuclear accident in the world, it took weeks to stabilize what remained of the plant and months to clean up radioactive materials and cover the site with a concrete and steel sarcophagus. So far, no significant levels of radiation have been detected beyond the vicinity of the plant in Fukushima.
The U.S. Department of Energy said on its website (http://blog.energy.gov/content/situation-japan/)
no significant quantities of radiological material had been deposited in the area around the plant since March 19, according to tests on Friday.In Tokyo, a metropolis of 13 million people, a Reuters reading on Saturday morning showed ambient radiation of 0.22 microsieverts per hour, about six times normal for the city. That was well within the global average of naturally occurring background radiation of 0.17-0.39 microsieverts per hour, a range given by the World Nuclear Association.The government has prodded tens of thousands of people living in a 20 km-30 km (12-18 mile) zone beyond the stricken complex to leave. Edano said the residents should move because it was difficult to get supplies to the area, and not because of elevated radiation. Kazuo Suzuki, 56, who has moved from his house near the nuclear plant to an evacuation center, said neighbors he had talked to by telephone said delivery trucks were not going to the exclusion zone because of radiation worries. So goods are running out, meaning people have to drive to the next town to buy things. But there is a fuel shortage there too, so they have to wait in long queues for gasoline to use the car.Radiation levels at the evacuation center were within a normal range of about 0.16 microsievert, according to a Reuters geiger counter reading. In Japan's northeast, more than a quarter of a million people remain in shelters, and the impact on livelihoods is becoming clearer. The quake and tsunami not only wiped out homes and businesses but also a fishing industry that was the lifeblood of coastal communities.Fishermen lost their gear, ships and just about everything. About half will probably get out of the business, said Yuko Sasaki, a fishmonger in the tsunami-hit city of Kamaishi.The double disaster probably destroyed aqua farms for abalone, sea urchins, oysters, scallops and seaweed that authorities say account for 80 percent of the revenue of the region's fisheries.The tsunami obliterated centuries-old fishing ports along the northeast coast, sending ships adrift in the Pacific Ocean, to the bottom of the sea, or depositing them on land, where they now lie among the splintered remains of homes.(Additional reporting by Kiyoshi Takenaka, Chizu Nomiyama and Shinichi Saoshiro in Tokyo, Jon Herskovitz in Kamaishi, Editing by Robert Birsel)
Radiation spike in sea near Japan nuclear plant
by Huw Griffith - MAR 26,11 6PM
SENDAI, Japan (AFP) – Radiation levels have surged in seawater near a tsunami-stricken nuclear power station in Japan, officials said Saturday, as engineers battled to stabilise the plant in hazardous conditions.Urgent efforts were under way to drain pools of highly radioactive water near the reactors after several workers suffered radiation burns while installing cables as part of efforts to restore the critical cooling systems.The new safety worries further complicated efforts to bring the ageing facility under control, and raised fears that the fuel rod vessels or their valves and pipes are leaking.It is becoming very important to get rid of the puddles quickly, said an official at the nuclear safety agency, Hidehiko Nishiyama.
One of the worst-case scenarios at reactor three would be that the fuel inside the reactor core -- a volatile uranium-plutonium mix -- has already started to burn its way through its steel pressure vessel.Highly radioactive water is flowing inside the buildings and then into the sea, which is worrying for fish and marine vegetation, said Olivier Isnard, an expert at France's Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety.One hypothesis is that the reactor vessel is breached and highly radioactive corium is coming out.Fire engines have hosed thousands of tons of seawater onto the plant in a bid to keep the fuel rods inside reactor cores and pools from being exposed to the air, where they could reach critical stage and go into full meltdown.Several hundred metres offshore in the Pacific Ocean, levels of iodine-131 some 1,250 times the legal limit were detected on Saturday, a tenfold increase from just days earlier, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said.
Drinking a half-litre (20-ounce) bottle of fresh water with the same concentration would expose a person to their annual safe dose, Nishiyama said, but he ruled out an immediate threat to marine life and seafood safety.Generally speaking, radioactive material released into the sea will spread due to tides, so you need much more for seaweed and sea life to absorb it, he said.Because iodine-131 decays relatively quickly, with a half-life of eight days, by the time people eat the sea products, its amount is likely to have diminished significantly,he said.However, TEPCO also reported levels of caesium-137 -- which has a half life of about 30 years -- almost 80 times the legal maximum. Scientists say both radioactive substances can cause cancer if absorbed by humans.Government assurances did little to lift the gloom that has hung over Japan since a 9.0-magnitude quake struck on March 11, sending a huge tsunami crashing into the northeast coast in the country's worst post-war disaster.
The wave easily overwhelmed the world's biggest sea defences and swallowed entire communities. The confirmed death toll stood at 10,489 as of 9:00 pm (1200 GMT) on Saturday, Kyodo News said, citing the National Police Agency, with 16,621 listed as missing.The tsunami knocked out the cooling systems for the six reactors of the Fukushima plant, leading to suspected partial meltdowns in three of them. Hydrogen explosions and fires have also ripped through the facility.High-voltage electric cables have since been linked up to the reactors again and power has been partially restored in two reactor control rooms.Worried about the salt buildup in the crippled plant, engineers have started pumping in fresh water into some of the reactors. The US military is supporting the effort by sending two full water barges from a naval base near Tokyo.I believe we have prevented the current situation worsening, taking steps towards real progress such as resuming power and injecting water, chief government spokesman Yukio Edano told reporters.Radioactive vapour from the plant has contaminated farm produce and dairy products in the region, leading to shipment halts in Japan as well as the United States, European Union, China and a host of other nations.Singapore extended a ban on food imports from Japan on Saturday, suspending imports of all fruit and vegetables from the whole Kanto region, a large area including greater Tokyo.Higher than normal radiation has also been detected in tap water in and around Tokyo, some 250 kilometres (155 miles) from the plant, leading authorities at one stage to warn against using it for baby milk formula.
Japan widened the zone around the plant from which it suggests people evacuate to 30 kilometres -- still below the 80 kilometres advised by the United States. Environmental watchdog Greenpeace started its own monitoring near the plant, saying authorities have consistently appeared to underestimate both the risks and extent of radioactive contamination.The campaign group said it would provide an alternative to the often contradictory information released by nuclear regulators.
Japan's government criticizes nuke plant operator By ERIC TALMADGE and MARI YAMAGUCHI, Associated Press – Sat Mar 26, 2:03 pm ET
SENDAI, Japan – Japan's government revealed a series of missteps by the operator of a radiation-leaking nuclear plant on Saturday, including sending workers in without protective footwear in its faltering efforts to control a monumental crisis. The U.S. Navy, meanwhile, rushed to deliver fresh water to replace corrosive salt water now being used in a desperate bid to cool the plant's overheated reactors.Government spokesman Yukio Edano urged Tokyo Electric Power Co. to be more transparent, two days after two workers at the tsunami-damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi plant suffered skin burns when they stepped in water that was 10,000 times more radioactive than levels normally found near the reactors.We strongly urge TEPCO to provide information to the government more promptly, Edano said.The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, or NISA, said TEPCO was aware there was high radiation in the air at one of the plant's six units several days before the accident. And the two workers injured were wearing boots that only came up to their ankles — hardly high enough to protect their legs, agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama said.Regardless of whether there was an awareness of high radioactivity in the stagnant water, there were problems in the way work was conducted, Nishiyama said.NISA warned TEPCO to improve and ensure workers' safety, and TEPCO has taken measures to that effect, Nishiyama said, without elaborating.
TEPCO spokesman Hajime Motojuku declined to comment.The government's admonishments came as workers at the plant struggled to stop a troubling rise in radioactivity and remove dangerously contaminated water from the facility, which has been leaking radiation since a massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 knocked out the plant's key cooling systems. Officials have been using seawater to try to cool the plant, but fears are growing that the corrosive salt in the water could further damage the machinery inside the reactor units.TEPCO is now rushing to inject the reactors with fresh water instead, and to begin extracting the radioactive water, Nishiyama said.
Defense Minister Yoshimi Kitazawa said late Friday that the U.S. government had made an extremely urgent request to switch to fresh water. He said the U.S. military was sending water to nearby Onahama Bay and that water injections could begin in the next few days.The U.S. 7th Fleet confirmed that barges loaded with 500,000 gallons of fresh water supplies were on their way.The situation at the crippled complex remains unpredictable, Edano said Saturday, adding that it would be a long time until the crisis ends.We seem to be keeping the situation from turning worse, he said.But we still cannot be optimistic.Efforts to get the nuclear plant under control took on fresh urgency this week when nuclear safety officials said they suspected a breach in one or more of the plant's units — possibly a crack or hole in the stainless steel chamber around a reactor core containing fuel rods or the concrete wall surrounding a pool where spent fuel rods are stored.Such a breach could mean a much larger release of radioactive contaminants.Radioactivity was on the rise in some units, Nishiyama said Saturday.
It is crucial to figure out how to remove contaminated water while allowing work to continue, he said, acknowledging that the discovery would set back delicate efforts to get the plant's cooling system operating again.Workers have begun pumping radioactive water from one of the units, Masateru Araki, a TEPCO spokesman, said Saturday. Plant officials and government regulators say they don't know the source of the radioactive water. It could have come from a leaking reactor core, connecting pipes, or a spent fuel pool. Or it may be the result of overfilling the pools with emergency cooling water.But a breach in the chamber surrounding the reactor core seemed more likely, Nishiyama said.TEPCO said late Saturday that a trace of radioactive water had leaked from the Unit 2 reactor building into a sewage line. It was not clear if the source of the water was the same as the other leakage. TEPCO said officials were investigating.Radiation has been seeping from the plant since the magnitude-9 earthquake and tsunami struck more than two weeks ago. Since then, it has made its way into milk, seawater and 11 kinds of vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower and turnips.
Tap water in several areas of Japan, including Tokyo, has shown higher-than-normal levels of radiation. In the capital, readings were at one point two times higher than the government safety limit for infants, who are particularly vulnerable to radioactive iodine.But levels have fallen steadily since peaking Wednesday, and Tokyo metropolitan officials said Saturday that tap water was safe for babies to drink.Just outside a reactor at the coastal nuclear plant, radioactivity in seawater tested about 1,250 times higher than normal, Nishiyama said. He said the area is not a source of seafood and the contamination posed no immediate threat to human health.
However, tests conducted 18 miles (28 kilometers) offshore found radioactive iodine-131 at levels nearing the regulatory limit set by the Japanese government, the International Atomic Energy Agency said. The tests also detected another radioactive substance, cesium-137, at lower levels.IAEA experts said the ocean will quickly dilute the worst contamination. Radioactive iodine breaks down within weeks but cesium could foul the marine environment for decades.The nuclear crisis has added to the misery and uncertainty facing Japan in the wake of the disastrous earthquake and tsunami.Japanese soldiers and U.S. Marines were clearing away debris so they could keep searching for bodies and bury the dead. The official death toll was 10,418 Saturday, with more than 17,000 listed as missing, police said. Those lists may overlap, but the final death toll was expected to surpass 18,000.Overwhelmed by bodies along the coast, government officials conducted more mass burials Saturday. In Yamamoto, relatives wailed and yelled their farewells as the first 11 caskets were buried in one end of a long mass grave in a vegetable patch, with at least 400 more burials planned in the coming days.In Higashimatsushima, soldiers lowered plywood coffins into a ditch dug at a recycling plant as freezing rain fell on mourners weeping quietly under umbrellas. Funerals in Japan are a highly formalized Buddhist ceremony, and the mass burials are yet another tragedy for the hard-hit coastal towns.The misery has extended to the hundreds of thousands whose homes were destroyed, many of whom now sleep on crowded school gymnasium floors with few comforts. Those living within a 12-mile (20-kilometer) radius of the plant have been evacuated.
Life was also tough in the ghost towns inside a larger voluntary evacuation zone, with most residents choosing to flee and wary truckers refusing to deliver goods. In Minamisoma, a city of 71,000 about 20 miles (30 kilometers) north of the plant, all but one or two shops shut their doors because of a lack of goods and customers, city official Sadayasu Abe said.Commercial trucks are simply not coming to the city at all due to radiation fears, he said.Military troops and some private companies took up the task of delivering rice, instant noodles, bottled water and canned foods to eight central spots in the city, Abe said.He said the city was urging the 10,000 or so still remaining to leave since the situation at the plant remains precarious. Life is very difficult here, he told The Associated Press by telephone. We have electricity, gas and running water, but no food.Muneyuki Munakata, a 58-year-old firefighter who was evacuated from his home near the plant, has been living in a shelter about 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of the nuclear complex for 15 days. Evacuees have plenty of instant noodles, but not enough rice or fuel for the stove, he said.People here are all exhausted, he said. We all talk about when we can go home, but I don't know when because of uncertainty over the nuclear disaster.
Yamaguchi reported from Tokyo, as did Associated Press writers Shino Yuasa, Kristen Gelineau, Jeff Donn, Mayumi Saito and Joji Sakurai. Jay Alabaster contributed to this report from Yamamoto.

Libyan rebels rout Gaddafi forces in strategic town
By Angus MacSwan - MAR 26,11
AJDABIYAH, Libya (Reuters) – Libyan rebels backed by allied air strikes retook the strategic town of Ajdabiyah on Saturday after an all-night battle that suggested the tide was turning against Muammar Gaddafi's forces in the east.France said its warplanes had destroyed five Libyan and two helicopters on the ground at an air base outside the insurgent- held town of Misrata. Pro-Gaddafi forces had earlier pounded the town with tank, mortar and artillery fire that halted only as coalition aircraft appeared overhead, a rebel told Reuters.One inhabitant said 115 people had been killed in Misrata in a week and snipers were still shooting people from rooftops.In Ajdabiyah, rebel fighters danced on tanks, waved flags and fired in the air near buildings riddled with bullet holes. Half a dozen wrecked tanks lay near the eastern entrance to the town and the ground was strewn with empty shell casings.Rebels said fighting had lasted through the night. By the town's western gate there were bodies of more than a dozen Gaddafi fighters, and an abandoned truckload of ammunition suggested Gaddafi forces had beaten a hasty retreat.Thank you Britain, thank you France, thank you America, said one rebel, praising Western air strikes against Gaddafi targets.Capturing Ajdabiyah, a gateway from western Libya to the rebel stronghold of Benghazi and the oil town of Tobruk, was a big morale boost for the rebels a week after coalition air strikes began to enforce a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone.
Western governments hope the raids, launched with the aim of protecting civilians, will also shift the balance of power in favor of the Arab world's most violent popular revolt.In Misrata, the only big insurgent stronghold left in Libya's west and cut off from the main rebel force to the east, shelling by Gaddafi's forces fell silent on Saturday when Western coalition planes appeared in the sky, a rebel said.
The shelling stopped when the planes appeared in the sky, the rebel, called Saadoun, said by telephone.It seems his (Gaddafi's) focus now is Misrata,he said.He pulled his forces out of Ajdabiyah and Brega so that he puts all his weight in attacking Misrata and winning so he can control the whole west versus losing the whole east.
Earlier, Saadoun told Reuters Gaddafi forces had attacked the city from the west and the east, shelling the port with mortars and artillery, and sending tanks along a coastal road.Misrata, Libya's third-largest city, has been encircled and under bombardment for weeks, but Western aircraft and missiles have been increasing their raids on government positions there.Reports from Misrata could not be independently verified.The Pentagon said there had been air strikes overnight from Friday to Saturday at Libyan targets but no Tomahawk missiles.Aircraft strikes included fixed targets and maneuver forces along the coastline and near the cities of Tripoli, Misrata and Ajdabiyah,said Captain Darryn James, a Pentagon spokesman.
REBELS SAY FORCES SEIZE BREGA
Rebels said they had seized control on Saturday of the oil port of Brega, 70 km (45 miles) west along the Mediterranean coast from Ajdabiyah. But there was no independent confirmation.Brega, site of an oil export terminal and refinery, sprawls over a large area and overall control can be hard to determine.Brega is 100 percent in the hands of liberating forces, Shamsiddin Abdulmolah, a rebel spokesman in Benghazi, said.U.S. President Barack Obama, criticized by U.S. politicians across the spectrum for failing to communicate the goals of the air campaign, told Americans that the military mission in Libya was clear, focused and limited.He said it had already saved countless civilian lives.Obama said Libya's air defenses had been disabled, Gaddafi's forces were no longer advancing and in places like Benghazi, his forces had been pushed back.So make no mistake, because we acted quickly, a humanitarian catastrophe has been avoided and the lives of countless civilians -- innocent men, women and children -- have been saved, Obama said in a weekly radio address.Obama, due to speak to Americans about Libya again on Monday evening, had also been faulted by fellow politicians for taking on another military mission in a Muslim country with the United States embroiled in the Iraq and Afghan wars.NATO has agreed to take over that role in enforcing the no-fly zone and arms embargo against Libya, but final details have not yet been worked out for the military alliance to take over the air strikes on Gaddafi's military and its equipment.Libyan state television was broadcasting occasional, brief news reports of the air strikes. Mostly it showed footage -- some of it grainy images years old -- of cheering crowds waving green flags and carrying portraits of Gaddafi. Neither Gaddafi nor his sons have been shown on state television since the Libyan leader made a speech from his Tripoli compound on Wednesday.State TV said the brother leader" had promoted all members of his armed forces and police for their heroic and courageous fight against the crusader, colonialist assault.(Additional reporting by Alexander Dziadosz, Maria Golovnina, Michael Georgy, Ibon Villelabeitia, Lamine Chikhi, Mariam Karouny and Patricia Zengerle; Writing by Tom Pfeiffer and Ibon Villelabeitia; Editing by Mark Heinrich)
China voices worry about Nato civilian casualties in Libya
VALENTINA POP Today MAR 26,11 @ 14:29 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - China's vice-foreign minister Fu Ying has voiced concern that Nato's anti-Gaddafi operation will cause even more civilian casualties in Libya.China's abstention in the UN Security Council vote on Libya on 18 March allowed the US-and-French-led international coalition to launch Operation Odyssey Dawn. Under a new agreement, Nato will this week take over military command and launch the second phase of action under the title Unified Protector.When asked by EUobserver on Friday (25 March) at the Brussels Forum if China supports Nato's new role, the country's vice-foreign minister, Fu Ying, said: We don't support military action against Libya, as we think this will cause even more civilian casualties.Speaking earlier at the event, a symposium organised by US think-tank the German Marshall Fund, Fu explained: We stayed away from a veto because the Arab League had very strong feelings about this [enforcing a no-fly zone] and we never vote against the interests of development countries.She added that China's extraction of 36,000 Chinese nationals from Libya in just eight days was the largest evacuation we've ever done and a wake-up call on improving consular protection for the growing number of Chinese citizens living abroad. On the economic impact of the Arab spring, China is worried that the longer the turmoil goes on, the more the stability of supply and prices of oil and gas will be affected.
Nato has meanwhile appointed a Canadian general, Charles Bouchard, to run military action. A Nato official described the last four days of hand-over talks in Brussels as a madhouse, with France and Turkey at odds on issues including the mandate for hitting ground targets.The French wanted the coalition to stay in place forever, while the Turks wanted Nato to take over immediately. In the end, the compromise was that the transition would take a few days, so as to give more time to the coalition to do its raids, the source said.A senior US official has said Nato will take over control not just of the no-fly zone and arms embargo, but also protection of civilians - which could include deployment of special forces and bombing of Gaddafi tanks.The US official disagreed with French President Nicolas Sarkozy's Thursday statement that Nato will not have operations on the ground and that the original coalition countries will retain political control.There is an agreement that this operation will be commanded and controlled by Nato, and as such, it will be directed by the North Atlantic Council, which is the guiding and deciding body for any military operation that is conducted by Nato and under Nato,he explained. A contact group of foreign ministers from the 12 coalition countries - Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Norway, Qatar, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the US - is to meet in London on Tuesday. It has also invited the Arab League, the African Union and the United Nations.In their seventh day of operations, coalition jets and warships on Friday launched missiles and dropped bombs on Gaddafi air defences, communication posts and troops.More than half of the 96 airstrikes carried out in the last 24 hours were by American pilots, US admiral William E. Gortney said in a press briefing. What we must focus on is limiting the regime's ability to inflict the harm by squeezing it and denying it the tools to do so,he added.
Experts: Gaddafi terrorist threat is hot air
ANDREW RETTMAN 25.03.2011 @ 16:47 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Counter terrorism experts believe Gaddafi assassins could attack rebel supporters residing in the EU in revenge for the uprising. But his threat to launch a new terrorist campaign is seen as hot air.Gaddafi loyalists have in recent days made specific threats against prominent rebel sympathisers living in the UK, according to one source with knowledge of the subject who asked to remain anonymous.The risk of individual murders is considered real by security experts, such as Robert Baer, a former CIA field officer who worked in north Africa, and Michel Koutouzis, a freelance consultant who advises the European External Action Service (EEAS).I think he has a couple of people stationed in Europe. But the worst he could do is an assassination attempt against Libyan dissidents, Baer told EUobserver in an interview on Thursday (24 March).Gaddafi has a group of people in the secret services from his clan who specialise in assassination ... I'm sorry to say, but we all have those kinds of people, Koutouzis told this website after completing a two-month-long trip to north Africa and the Middle East.In a series of speeches since the war began, Gaddafi has claimed both that al-Qaeda is behind the rebellion and that he will team up with it to launch strikes against coalition countries.Given his background as a major sponsor of terrorism in the 1980s, the US and the EU are listening.Top US counter-terrorism official, John O. Brennan, when asked by press in New York last week if Gaddafi poses a threat answered: We have to anticipate and be prepared for things he might try to do to flout the will of the international community.
An EEAS counter-terrorism official told this website: These things are always taken seriously. Prima facie, you have to look at it.Most experts believe he is capable of no more than a symbolic attack, however.Alastair Crooke, a veteran MI6 officer who currently runs a conflict-prevention NGO in Beirut, said: In any European city, it's simple enough to buy a gun. But when you talk about something more sustained, more elaborate - this is probably hot air.Baer added: He doesn't have a network in Europe. He got out of the terrorism business some time ago ... His intelligence services are largely incompetent. The Libyans just can't do it. They're incapable of clandestine operations in Europe. They don't have the sophistication.Koutouzis said: Gaddafi has very bad relations with ex-terrorists in Algeria and with AQLIM [Al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb]. He mainly has the Touareg tribes. They work for him like soldiers, but they are primarily interested in trade - drugs, weapons, food.
Worst-case scenario
The main threat to EU security more broadly is if Gaddafi clings to power and coalition forces get dragged in to a ground war. Ismail Patel, the head of the British-based pro-Palestinian NGO Friends of al-Aqsa, said a ground war could see jihadists go to Libya to fight Western soldiers as in Afghanistan and Iraq: There are anti-Western elements around the world that would use Libya as an arena of conflict.British Muslims support the liberation of Benghazi. But the war could release a fresh wave of anti-Western feeling if Prime Minister David Cameron mishandles his propaganda, Patel added: People are already wondering why the West cornered Gaddafi. Right from the start they blocked his exit by saying he would go to the Hague. Maybe they cornered him so they could get into Libya.Patel and Crooke noted that the Arab League's role in the coalition gives Western countries less political cover than they might think.The Arab League does not represent the Arab people in north Africa, especially not the revolutionary movements,Patel said.The Arab League endorsement is based on the Saudi Arabian king's personal enmity for Gaddafi. It's too tenuous to represent wider opinion,Crooke explained.

Winter weather to make weekend comeback in some states
– Sat Mar 26, 11:54 am ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Cold weather, snow, and severe storms were expected over the weekend in several parts of the country, weather forecasters said on Saturday.A band of snow and cold rain is expected to sweep from Omaha, Nebraska to the District of Columbia, according to AccuWeather.com.While the storm will not bring excessive snowfall, it will put down as much as 6 inches of snow along part of this path, AccuWeather.com senior metrologist Alex Sosnowski said. Most areas within the west-east band will get 1 to 3 inches of snow.The storm is expected to reach Illinois by Saturday evening and Virginia overnight.The Weather Channel described the weekend weather as being a clash between winter and spring.Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely all day Saturday and throughout the night in much of the South, the Weather Channel's Tim Ballisty said.The Tennessee River Valley will see the heaviest rain while high winds and large hail will rip through Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
The National Weather service has issued flood alerts in those areas.In the West, heavy snow will continue in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, adding between two and four feet to the one to four feet already on the ground, according to accuweather.com, presenting an avalanche risk.Heavy rain will pound closer to the Pacific coast from central California to Southern Washington, amounting to between one and three inches.Combined with what has been heavy rain for March, the rain will likely trigger flash flooding, mudslides and debris flows.(Reporting by Wendell Marsh; Editing by Jerry Norton)
Tsunami threat could catch Northwest off guard TIM FOUGHT and ALICIA CHANG, Associated Press – Sat Mar 26, 11:04 am ET
CANNON BEACH, Ore. – When the big one hits the Pacific Northwest, the best place to escape the wall of water moving at jetliner speed from 50 miles off the coast may be a City Hall on stilts.Once the ground finishes two to four minutes of lurching and shaking, residents and tourists in Cannon Beach would flock to the refuge on concrete columns 14 feet above the waves racing beneath.They would ... if the refuge gets built. There's nothing like it from Northern California to British Columbia and, so far, no money for anything like it.It's an example of how underprepared the West Coast is for an earthquake and tsunami on the scale of what happened in Japan.
Scientists say it's inevitable that an offshore seismic menace called the Cascadia Subduction Zone will one day unleash a megaquake. The last time it happened was 300 years ago when a magnitude-9 shaker spawned enormous ocean waves that slammed into the West Coast and damaged Japanese fishing villages.Mindful of the risks of waves as high as 60 feet, communities in the Pacific Northwest have worked on their defenses, installing sirens to warn of dangerous waves, posting hazard signs to mark inundation zones, designating evacuation routes and holding evacuation drills.
Scientists in the Pacific Northwest hadn't understood the geology and the threat it poses until recent decades when they discovered evidence of big quakes near the coast over the last 10,000 years — about 20 the size of the March 11 quake in Japan.
By contrast, the Japanese have long paid close attention to quakes and tsunamis. Their written records from 1700 allowed North American scientists a few years ago to fix the timing of the last Pacific Northwest megaquake, right down to the hour it occurred.So the death and damage caused by this month's earthquake and tsunami in Japan were worrisome on the other side of the Pacific.We're not nearly as well prepared as the Japanese, and clearly they were overwhelmed, said Bill Steele, coordinator of the University of Washington's Seismology Laboratory. It is a problem.
Elevated refuges are among the Japan-style responses to the tsunami threat that experts say helped to mitigate the destruction and death.And these are just pieces in a giant puzzle for the Northwest in dealing with the aftermath of a disaster that could bring Katrina-style devastation to a region of 13 million people west of the Cascade Range.In Cannon Beach, Jay Raskin is terrified at the prospect — terrified is a word he uses three times in the first few minutes of an interview.The former city council member and mayor has proposed replacing the current City Hall, seismically unsound, with a two-story building on stilts to provide refuge to as many as 1,500 people. The second floor would house city offices. Atop that would be a terrace.The idea is still conceptual, awaiting vetting by structural and geophysical engineers. That could add to the tentative $4 million price tag Raskin puts on it.There are no current plans in California to build special tsunami-resistant structures, but some communities are looking at ways to herd residents to existing buildings perched on higher ground in the event of dangerous waves, said Rick Wilson, senior engineering geologist with the California Geological Survey.
In Washington state, emergency managers are working with coastal communities to develop local plans for elevated evacuation structures that could do double duty, such as steel-reinforced earthen berms 20 feet high that could support bleachers at a stadium.Right now, there's no funding for anything like this, through state and federal funding, said John Schelling of the Washington State Emergency Management. He argues, though, that it's important to develop the plans for the day when money is available. That's particularly the case, he said, for places on the Pacific Northwest coast that don't have high ground close to the beach, such as the flats of southwest Washington's Long Beach peninsula.Among the critics of such work is Patrick Corcoran, an Oregon State University extension worker who specializes in marine hazards and argues that the regional emphasis on geology and engineering misses the mark.This is a cultural, behavioral issue far more than an engineering issue, he said.The message that has to be driven home for coastal residents, he said, is there are just a few keys to surviving a tsunami, including the importance of getting to higher ground and staying there, even if your family is scattered. It's also important to find a way to hoof it to higher ground — rather than trying to drive and dealing with gridlock — while also designating someone on solid ground as the family contact point.Governments, he said, can make it easier for people to survive tsunamis by creating shelters on high ground, and making sure paths uphill are clear of the invasive blackberry brambles that plague the coast.
In Cannon Beach, the 1,500 capacity of the proposed City Hall refuge is about the size of the town's permanent population. At the height of the tourist season, there are three to four times as many people.Most would have to rely on following an evacuation route to get above the waves — something locals would likely know well but could be difficult for tourists already panicked by the quake.Raskin said his concern about earthquakes dates to his work as an architect in the San Francisco Bay area during the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and argues that Cannon Beach has a responsibility to the tourists the town has invited to the coast.Choking up in an interview, he said, I don't want to be in a position to say that I didn't do enough.
Chang reported from Los Angeles.
Canadian federal election to be on May 2
– Sat Mar 26, 9:28 am ET
OTTAWA (Reuters) – A general election will be held in Canada on May 2, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Saturday after his minority Conservative government was brought down on a nonconfidence vote in Parliament the day before.Opposition parties toppled Harper on Friday on the grounds that his government was tainted by sleaze, had managed the economy poorly and was in contempt of Parliament.Polls show the right-of-center Conservatives are set to retain power in what will be Canada's fourth election in less than seven years.Harper, in power since 2006 with two successive minority governments, says Canada does not need an election at a time when economic recovery is still fragile.Against our advice, the opposition parties have chosen to force an election the country doesn't' want and the economy doesn't need, he told reporters.Harper spoke after visiting Governor General David Johnston -- the representative of Queen Elizabeth, Canada's head of state -- to seek the dissolution of Parliament.The prime minister says that unless the Conservatives get a majority, the three opposition parties will form what he calls an unstable and reckless coalition.Michael Ignatieff, leader of the main opposition Liberal Party, issued a statement on Saturday saying he would not form a coalition with other parties.(Reporting by David Ljunggren; editing by Peter Galloway)
Parshah Tazria - Leviticus 12:1-13:59
SINCE WHAT ISRAEL READS WILL BE FULFILLED IN THAT WEEK I WILL BE PUTTING THE WEEKLY TORAH PORTION ON FOR ALL OF US TO KEEP TRACK OF ISRAEL HAPPENINGS.
TORAH PORTION FROM MAR 27 2011 6PM - APR 02 6PM 2011
LEVITICUS 12:1 - 13:59
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.
3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.
4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.
5 But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.
6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:
7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath born a male or a female.
8 And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
LEVITICUS 13:1-59
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying,
2 When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the plague of leprosy; then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the priests:
3 And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and when the hair in the plague is turned white, and the plague in sight be deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy: and the priest shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.
4 If the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and in sight be not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague seven days:
5 And the priest shall look on him the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague in his sight be at a stay, and the plague spread not in the skin; then the priest shall shut him up seven days more:
6 And the priest shall look on him again the seventh day: and, behold, if the plague be somewhat dark, and the plague spread not in the skin, the priest shall pronounce him clean: it is but a scab: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.
7 But if the scab spread much abroad in the skin, after that he hath been seen of the priest for his cleansing, he shall be seen of the priest again:
8 And if the priest see that, behold, the scab spreadeth in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a leprosy.
9 When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought unto the priest;
10 And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the rising be white in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising;
11 It is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean, and shall not shut him up: for he is unclean.
12 And if a leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy cover all the skin of him that hath the plague from his head even to his foot, wheresoever the priest looketh;
13 Then the priest shall consider: and, behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: it is all turned white: he is clean.
14 But when raw flesh appeareth in him, he shall be unclean.
15 And the priest shall see the raw flesh, and pronounce him to be unclean: for the raw flesh is unclean: it is a leprosy.
16 Or if the raw flesh turn again, and be changed unto white, he shall come unto the priest;
17 And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the plague be turned into white; then the priest shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: he is clean.
18 The flesh also, in which, even in the skin thereof, was a boil, and is healed,
19 And in the place of the boil there be a white rising, or a bright spot, white, and somewhat reddish, and it be shewed to the priest;
20 And if, when the priest seeth it, behold, it be in sight lower than the skin, and the hair thereof be turned white; the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a plague of leprosy broken out of the boil.
21 But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hairs therein, and if it be not lower than the skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:
22 And if it spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a plague.
23 But if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not, it is a burning boil; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.
24 Or if there be any flesh, in the skin whereof there is a hot burning, and the quick flesh that burneth have a white bright spot, somewhat reddish, or white;
25 Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the hair in the bright spot be turned white, and it be in sight deeper than the skin; it is a leprosy broken out of the burning: wherefore the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is the plague of leprosy.
26 But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:
27 And the priest shall look upon him the seventh day: and if it be spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is the plague of leprosy.
28 And if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not in the skin, but it be somewhat dark; it is a rising of the burning, and the priest shall pronounce him clean: for it is an inflammation of the burning.
29 If a man or woman have a plague upon the head or the beard;
30 Then the priest shall see the plague: and, behold, if it be in sight deeper than the skin; and there be in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a dry scall, even a leprosy upon the head or beard.
31 And if the priest look on the plague of the scall, and, behold, it be not in sight deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it; then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague of the scall seven days:
32 And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the plague: and, behold, if the scall spread not, and there be in it no yellow hair, and the scall be not in sight deeper than the skin;
33 He shall be shaven, but the scall shall he not shave; and the priest shall shut up him that hath the scall seven days more:
34 And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the scall: and, behold, if the scall be not spread in the skin, nor be in sight deeper than the skin; then the priest shall pronounce him clean: and he shall wash his clothes, and be clean.
35 But if the scall spread much in the skin after his cleansing;
36 Then the priest shall look on him: and, behold, if the scall be spread in the skin, the priest shall not seek for yellow hair; he is unclean.
37 But if the scall be in his sight at a stay, and that there is black hair grown up therein; the scall is healed, he is clean: and the priest shall pronounce him clean.
38 If a man also or a woman have in the skin of their flesh bright spots, even white bright spots;
39 Then the priest shall look: and, behold, if the bright spots in the skin of their flesh be darkish white; it is a freckled spot that groweth in the skin; he is clean.
40 And the man whose hair is fallen off his head, he is bald; yet is he clean.
41 And he that hath his hair fallen off from the part of his head toward his face, he is forehead bald: yet is he clean.
42 And if there be in the bald head, or bald forehead, a white reddish sore; it is a leprosy sprung up in his bald head, or his bald forehead.
43 Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the rising of the sore be white reddish in his bald head, or in his bald forehead, as the leprosy appeareth in the skin of the flesh;
44 He is a leprous man, he is unclean: the priest shall pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is in his head.
45 And the leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head bare, and he shall put a covering upon his upper lip, and shall cry, Unclean, unclean.
46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the camp shall his habitation be.
47 The garment also that the plague of leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;
48 Whether it be in the warp, or woof; of linen, or of woollen; whether in a skin, or in any thing made of skin;
49 And if the plague be greenish or reddish in the garment, or in the skin, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a plague of leprosy, and shall be shewed unto the priest:
50 And the priest shall look upon the plague, and shut up it that hath the plague seven days:
51 And he shall look on the plague on the seventh day: if the plague be spread in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in a skin, or in any work that is made of skin; the plague is a fretting leprosy; it is unclean.
52 He shall therefore burn that garment, whether warp or woof, in woollen or in linen, or any thing of skin, wherein the plague is: for it is a fretting leprosy; it shall be burnt in the fire.
53 And if the priest shall look, and, behold, the plague be not spread in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin;
54 Then the priest shall command that they wash the thing wherein the plague is, and he shall shut it up seven days more:
55 And the priest shall look on the plague, after that it is washed: and, behold, if the plague have not changed his colour, and the plague be not spread; it is unclean; thou shalt burn it in the fire; it is fret inward, whether it be bare within or without.
56 And if the priest look, and, behold, the plague be somewhat dark after the washing of it; then he shall rend it out of the garment, or out of the skin, or out of the warp, or out of the woof:
57 And if it appear still in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin; it is a spreading plague: thou shalt burn that wherein the plague is with fire.
58 And the garment, either warp, or woof, or whatsoever thing of skin it be, which thou shalt wash, if the plague be departed from them, then it shall be washed the second time, and shall be clean.
59 This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woollen or linen, either in the warp, or woof, or any thing of skins, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.
PROPHETS PORTION
2 KINGS 4:42-5:19
42 And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
43 And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.
1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.
2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.
4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.
5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.
6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter is come unto thee, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest recover him of his leprosy.
7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man doth send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeketh a quarrel against me.
8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore hast thou rent thy clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.
11 But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.
13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean?
14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.
16 But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.
17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
18 In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.
19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
LUKE 7:18-23

21 And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

9 When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought unto the priest;
10 And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the rising be white in the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in the rising;
11 It is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall pronounce him unclean, and shall not shut him up: for he is unclean.
12 And if a leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy cover all the skin of him that hath the plague from his head even to his foot, wheresoever the priest looketh;
16 Or if the raw flesh turn again, and be changed unto white, he shall come unto the priest;
17 And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the plague be turned into white; then the priest shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: he is clean.
18 The flesh also, in which, even in the skin thereof, was a boil, and is healed,
19 And in the place of the boil there be a white rising, or a bright spot, white, and somewhat reddish, and it be shewed to the priest;
24 Or if there be any flesh, in the skin whereof there is a hot burning, and the quick flesh that burneth have a white bright spot, somewhat reddish, or white;
29 If a man or woman have a plague upon the head or the beard;
32 And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the plague: and, behold, if the scall spread not, and there be in it no yellow hair, and the scall be not in sight deeper than the skin;
35 But if the scall spread much in the skin after his cleansing;
38 If a man also or a woman have in the skin of their flesh bright spots, even white bright spots;
43 Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the rising of the sore be white reddish in his bald head, or in his bald forehead, as the leprosy appeareth in the skin of the flesh;
47 The garment also that the plague of leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;
48 Whether it be in the warp, or woof; of linen, or of woollen; whether in a skin, or in any thing made of skin;
53 And if the priest shall look, and, behold, the plague be not spread in the garment, either in the warp, or in the woof, or in any thing of skin;

22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
23 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

LIVE: PM arrives at Rideau Hall-Leaders to kick off campaigns after writ drops Saturday CBC News Posted: Mar 26, 2011 12:15 AM ET Last Updated: Mar 26, 2011 9:02 AM ET
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has arrived at Rideau Hall to meet with the Governor General to formally end the parliamentary session and kick off Canada's 41st federal election.Harper walked into the residence hand-in-hand with his wife Laureen, who gave a quick wave to reporters, ahead of the prime minister's meeting with Gov. Gen. David Johnston. There, they'll make it official: Canada's 40th Parliament is over, and Canadians are starting election season.Once the formal meeting is over at around 9:30 a.m., Harper will emerge from the stately stone mansion and speak to the media. He said Friday he wouldn't take questions until then.Where he goes after 1 Sussex Dr. is a tightly held secret. The Conservative Party won't disclose where Harper and his campaign will spend the first few days of the election.Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff and NDP Leader Jack Layton have both planned rallies in downtown Ottawa before leaving town. Ignatieff will travel to Montreal, where Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe is spending Saturday. Layton is flying to Edmonton Saturday afternoon.
Building a story
It's starting to become clear just what script each party will follow. The Conservatives are hitting hard on the election being unnecessary and irresponsible, and can build a campaign around the hold-steady style of budget they presented earlier this week. They are painting the opposition parties as a threat to the economy and arguing a coalition is inevitable if voters don't choose the Conservatives. The opposition parties say the issue is one of ethics and respect for democracy, which they say are lacking in the Conservative Party.Ignatieff indicated Friday the Liberals will focus on recent scandals hitting the Conservatives, including charges of electoral fraud for two senators, allegations staff interfered with access to information requests and an accusation a former senior advisor to the prime minister tried to use his influence to promote his girlfriend's business.The NDP, meanwhile, say they're the real alternative to the Conservatives because in many ridings their candidates run second to the Tories who won seats.The Bloc say they're the only party who can defend Quebec's interests.
Non-confidence
The opposition Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois came together Friday afternoon in a historic vote to say they no longer have confidence in the Conservative government.
The motion says the House agrees with a committee report tabled earlier this week that found the government in contempt of Parliament, which is unprecedented in Canadian parliamentary history, and consequently the House has lost confidence in the Government.Earlier this week, the procedure and House affairs committee tabled a report that said the government is in contempt of parliament for refusing to supply enough information on the cost of the F-35 fighter jets, their justice system reforms and their projections for corporate profits and tax rates.
Ignatieff rules out coalition with NDP, Bloc
The Canadian Press Date: Saturday Mar. 26, 2011 9:16 AM ET
OTTAWA — Michael Ignatieff is ruling out a coalition with the New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois. But the Liberal leader says he's open to working issue-by-issue with other parties if his party wins the election.However, Ignatieff also says he's categorically ruling out a coalition or even a formal arrangement with the Bloc.
Whoever leads the party that wins the most seats on election day should be called on to form the government,Ignatieff said in a statement, issued even before the election was formally called. If that is the Liberal party, then I will be required to rapidly seek the confidence of the newly elected Parliament.If our government cannot win the support of the House, then Mr. Harper will be called on to form a government and face the same challenge. That is our Constitution. It is the law of the land.The coalition question threatened to dog Ignatieff during the campaign as Stephen Harper's Conservatives raised the spectre of a cabal with the NDP and Bloc Quebecois.The Tories have accused the Liberals of being in bed with the socialists and separatists.Until Saturday morning's statement, Ignatieff had been coy about a coalition. He dodged questions after the government fell Friday afternoon, repeating the line that Canadians have a choice between a blue door and a red door -- a reference to the party colours of the Conservatives and Liberals.
Harper to seek Parliament dissolution Saturday

Canadian government falls, election set for May
By Randall Palmer and David Ljunggren – Fri Mar 25, 6:07 pm ET
OTTAWA (Reuters) – The opposition toppled Canada's Conservative government on Friday, accusing it of sleaze and mismanagement, and set the scene for a May election that polls indicate the Conservatives will win.Opposition legislators threw papers in the air in glee after voting 156-145 in the House of Commons to defeat the minority government, which they also say has mismanaged the economy and is overly secretive.The defeat paves the way for an election that will likely be fought on two main themes -- ethics and the economy. Likely dates are May 2 or May 9.Canada's dollar was steady at C$0.9810 to the U.S. dollar, or $1.0194. Domestic stocks ignored the political news and ended slightly higher on a rally in resource stocks.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper admitted he was disappointed by the result, and said Canadians did not want what will be the fourth general election in less than seven years.Our priority will remain to ensure stability and security for Canadians in what remain extremely challenging global circumstances, he told reporters soon after the vote.Harper said he would visit Governor General David Johnston, the representative of Queen Elizabeth, Canada's head of state, on Saturday to seek the formal dissolution of Parliament and set a date for the election.The Conservatives, in power since 2006 with two successive minority governments, are well ahead of the main opposition Liberal Party in opinion polls. If the polls translate into votes, Harper would once again get the most number of seats.Only the Conservatives or the Liberals can realistically win and both stress the need for fiscal austerity and the importance of paying down Canada's record budget deficit.The opposition thinks it can benefit from a series of ethical scandals to hit the Conservatives, who came to power promising to clean up Ottawa.This week, a parliamentary committee slapped the government with the first contempt ruling in Canada's history, saying the Conservatives had hidden the full costs of a spending program.There are only two alternatives here -- more of this disrespect for democracy, more of this contempt for the Canadian people, or a compassionate, responsible Liberal government, said Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, an academic and broadcaster who has headed the party since 2008.
Harper says that if he does not win a majority in the forthcoming election, the Liberals, the left-leaning New Democrats and the separatist Bloc Quebecois are planning to form an unstable coalition government.The charge could dog Ignatieff, who has so far declined to categorically rule out the idea.Any democratic politician ... respects the verdict of the people, he said.Pollster Ipsos Reid released a survey on Thursday showing 43 percent of voters back the Conservatives [ID:nN24181946] .If that number holds, it could bring Harper and the Conservatives their first majority in the 308-seat House of Commons and secure a four-year term in office.But an Ekos poll broadcast on Friday put the lead much smaller, at seven points, which would mean the Conservatives would be shy of a majority of seats. The Conservatives say an election is the last thing Canadians need at a time when the economy is outshining those of most industrialized nations but is still fragile as it recovers from recession.The Liberals vow to scrap C$6 billion ($6.1 billion) in corporate tax cuts and end multibillion-dollar plans to buy new fighter jets and build prison cells.Police are investigating allegations of misconduct by a former Harper aide and, last month, four Conservative officials were charged with violating election financing rules in 2006.(Reporting by David Ljunggren; editing by Rob Wilson and Janet Guttsman)
God's Hand? 44% of Americans See Natural Disasters as Sign of End Times
LiveScience.com Stephanie Pappas,livescience.com – Fri Mar 25, 8:20 pm ET
According to just over half of Americans, God is in control of everything that happens on Earth. But slightly fewer are willing to blame an omnipotent power for natural disasters such as Japan's earthquake and tsunami.A new poll finds that 56 percent of Americans agree or mostly agree that God is in control of all Earthly events. Forty-four percent think that natural disasters are or could be a sign from the Almighty. The fire-and-brimstone version of a vengeful God is even less popular in America: Only 29 percent of people felt that God sometimes punishes an entire nation for the sins of a few individuals.Nonetheless, the desire to turn to God for an explanation after a disaster is a widespread human urge, said Scott Schieman, a sociologist at the University of Toronto who studies people's beliefs about God's influence on daily life.There's just something about the randomness of the universe that is too unsettling, Schieman told LiveScience.We like explanations for why things happen … many times people weave in these divine narratives.
Deity of disaster
The poll surveyed a random sample of 1,008 adults in the continental United States in the few days after the Japanese disaster. The sample was weighted by age, sex, geographic region, education and race to reflect the entire population of U.S. adults.The poll found that evangelical Christians are more likely to see disasters as a sign from God than other religious faiths. Of white evangelicals, 59 percent said disasters are or could be a message from the deity, compared with 31 percent of Catholics and 34 percent of non-evangelical Protestants. The margin of error for the survey was plus or minus 3 percent.Forty-four percent of all Americans said that recent natural disasters could be a sign of the Biblical end times, with 67 percent of white evangelicals holding that view. (In comparison, 58 percent of Americans attributed recent severe natural disasters to global climate change, as did 52 percent of evangelicals.)It makes sense that those who interpret the Bible more literally would link disasters to God, said David Foy, a psychologist at Pepperdine University in Los Angeles who has studied religious coping and post-traumatic stress disorder. However, Foy said, the poll should be interpreted with caution.They try to draw some conclusions between evangelicals and mainline Protestants and Catholics, and I don't think they can do that from the data that they've got, Foy told LiveScience.[The poll participants] weren't selected on those variables, and other things that could have influenced their responses weren't controlled.
A vengeful God?
The poll found that 53 percent of white evangelical respondents and 20 percent of Catholics and mainline protestants said God sometimes punishes entire nations for the sins of a few.That belief can make it harder to cope after a tragedy, Foy said. In his work with combat veterans, Foy has found that those who see tragedies as evidence of God's wrath are not as psychologically well-off as those who seek other explanations for negative events.Less clear are the risks and benefits of believing that God is in the driver's seat, Schieman said, adding that the number of people in the survey who believe in a God that controls the universe (56 percent) matches what he's seen in his work.It doesn't surprise me, especially given the nature of God-talk in everyday society, how people talk about God being in control and influential,he said.Among the group of people who believe in a take-charge kind of God are those who see the hand in the divine in every aspect of life, down to the number of empty parking spaces at a busy shopping mall, Schieman said. And then there are those who see God as an absentee sort of manager — someone who cares and is in-charge, but isn't fiddling with the weather or engineering tsunamis.It's an interesting question,Schieman said. If you package or interpret events like this in the context of divine control, does it make people feel better? Does it make people feel more motivated? There's no straightforward answer to that question, Schieman said. In one 2008 study of data from a phone survey of U.S. adults, Schieman found that people who believed in a controlling God felt that they had less personal control over their own lives. But that association was strongest in people who rarely prayed or went to religious services. Those who believed in a controlling God but were invested in services and prayer showed no decrease in personal feelings of control, Schieman found.One of the toughest questions for believers is how to reconcile the image of an all-powerful, all-good and all-mighty deity with one that allows disasters like the Japanese tsunami, Foy said. How people cope with the question depends on their conception of God, he said.If you believe God ultimately is in charge of everything but doesn't control the minutiae of daily life, then I think it's easier to reconcile,Foy said.God would still care, but did not cause the tsunami to punish people.You can follow LiveScience senior writer Stephanie Pappas on Twitter @sipappas.

Study finds wind speeds rose over world's oceans
By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, AP Science Writer – Thu Mar 24, 3:43 pm ET
WASHINGTON – During the last quarter-century, average wind speeds have increased over the world's oceans, as have wave heights, generating rougher seas, researchers reported in a study published online Thursday.Since faster winds cause more evaporation, the increase could lead to more water vapor in the air, compounding any increase from global warming and providing added moisture for rain. Generally, that means a higher chance for rainfall.Researchers led by Ian Young of Swinburne University of Technology in Australia report in the journal Science that over a 23-year period, average wind speed over the oceans rose by 0.25 percent per year.The proportion of increase in wave height was less than for wind speed, the researchers noted, while the increase for extreme winds was more than for average winds.The researchers said the higher winds aren't necessarily the result of global warming.But Eugene S. Takle, director of the climate science program at Iowa State University, and not part of Young's research team, noted that evaporation rises with higher wind speeds, so the result would be more moisture in the air even without global warming. And the warming shown in many studies would also increase evaporation.
Just two years ago, Takle and colleagues published a study of wind speeds over land showing a decrease, rather than the increase Young's team found in its measurements from satellites and buoys. Young studied satellite records from 1985 to 2010, though records for 1990-91 were not available because of satellite problems.I don't think these results provide a clear contradiction to our findings of declining wind speeds over land, since measurements are made in different environments,said Takle.He noted that the day-to-night changes in temperature are different over land than over water and the boundary layer — the portion of the atmosphere that most closely interacts with the surface — is generally thicker over land than water.

Powerful quake in NE Myanmar kills more than 70
By AYE AYE WIN, Associated Press – Fri Mar 25, 11:23 pm ET
YANGON, Myanmar – A powerful earthquake that toppled homes in northeastern Myanmar has killed more than 70 people, and there were fears the toll would mount as conditions in more remote areas became known.The Thursday night quake, measured at magnitude 6.8 by the U.S. Geological Survey, was centered just north of Tachileik town in Shan State near the Thai border. It was felt hundreds of miles (kilometers) away in the Thai capital, Bangkok, and the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi.Myanmar state radio announced Friday that 73 people had been killed and 111 injured. It said 390 houses, 14 Buddhist monasteries and nine government buildings were damaged. Earlier in the day, news broadcasts had put the death toll at 74. No explanation was given for the decrease.Significant damage was reported in the villages around Tachileik, including to bridges and roads, which developed massive fissures, complicated relief efforts.A U.N. official said a small hospital and bridge were damaged in the nearby town of Tarlay, making it difficult to access the town. The private relief agency World Vision said water tanks and wells were also damaged, making water scarce.On the Thai side of the border, one woman was killed in Mae Sai when a wall fell on her, according to Thai police, but damage was otherwise minimal.The U.N. official said medicine would be sent to the affected areas as soon as possible along with an assessment team in cooperation with the Myanmar Red Cross Society. He said 95,000 people were estimated to live near the quake's epicenter, but it was unknown how many suffered damage from it.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because Myanmar's government frowns on giving unauthorized information to the media.Other relief efforts also were gearing up. World Vision said that at the request of the government, it would provide 250 households with basic necessities, such as food and water.Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton offered the United States' sincere condolences.Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy,she said in a statement.Most of rural Myanmar, one of Asia's poorest countries, is underdeveloped, with poor communications and other infrastructure, and minimal rescue and relief capacity. The country's military government is also usually reluctant to release information about disasters because it is already sensitive to any criticism.In 2008, the government delayed reporting on — and asking for help with — devastating Cyclone Nargis, which killed 130,000 people. The junta was widely criticized for what were called inadequate preparations and a slow response to the disaster.Somchai Hatayatanti, the governor of Thailand's Chiang Rai province, said dozens of people suffered minor injuries on the Thai side of the border. Cracks were found in buildings in downtown Chiang Rai city, about 55 miles (90 kilometers) from the epicenter, including a provincial hospital and city hall. The tops of spires fell from at least two Buddhist temples.As a precaution for aftershocks, a relief center was being set up Friday in Mae Sai.We are worried that the area might be hit with stronger quakes. There was another quake at 7 a.m. this morning,said Somsri Meethong of the Mae Sai District office, referring to a 4.9 aftershock.I had to run again like last night. What we have seen on TV about Japan added to our fear.

Latest in Japan's quake, tsunami, nuclear crisis
By The Associated Press – Sat Mar 26, 3:16 am ET
U.S. naval barges loaded with fresh water sped toward Japan's overheated nuclear plant to help workers who are scrambling to stem a worrying rise in radioactivity and remove dangerously contaminated water from the facility. Workers at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant have been pumping seawater to try to stabilize reactors that went haywire after a tsunami knocked out the complex's crucial cooling system earlier this month. But plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. is now rushing to inject the reactors with fresh water instead amid concerns about the corrosive nature of the salt in seawater. The U.S. military is sending water to nearby Onahama Bay and will begin water injections early next week. The official death toll from the disaster stands at 10,151, with more than 17,000 listed as missing. The final death toll is expected to top 18,000.

10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:

5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.

Syrian troops storm protest sit-in near Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria – Security troops stormed a protest sit-in near the capital Damascus, arresting about 200 people in the midnight raid, activists said Saturday, the latest violence in the unrelenting crackdown on protests that have spread to this Mideast country.The activists said up to 4,000 people were demonstrating in the town of Douma on the outskirts of Damascus when, around midnight Friday, electricity was cut and the protesters came under attack. The activists spoke on condition of anonymity fearing reprisals.They said troops attacked the protesters with sticks and clubs, injuring several, but those reports could not be independently confirmed. An eyewitness who drove to Douma Saturday said there were no traces of a fight in the area and shops were open.As calm returned to Syrian cities Saturday, a human rights activist said authorities released 70 political prisoners. The release was an apparent effort to appease the protesters and contain the fallout from a deadly crackdown on demonstrations that have gripped Syria for a week. Groups of detainees have been released earlier in the week as well.Abdul-Karim Rihawi, who heads the Syrian Human Rights League, said most of those released on Saturday had been imprisoned at Saidnaya prison in a Damascus suburb where political detainees are usually kept. He said no further details were immediately available and there was no official confirmation.But authorities also reportedly detained dozens of others during the violence as one of the Middle East's most repressive regimes sought to quell demonstrations that exploded nationwide demanding reform.
The Douma midnight raid capped a day of a relentless government crackdowns on protests which dramatically spread to multiple cities across Syria. The once-unimaginable scenario posed the biggest challenge in decades to Syria's iron-fisted rule.Security forces opening fire on Friday shot dead more than 15 people in at least six cities and villages, including a suburb of the capital, Damascus, witnesses told The Associated Press. Their accounts could not be independently confirmed.Funerals were under way Saturday across Syria for many of those killed the previous day.Also Saturday, the state-run news agency said an armed group attacked an officers' club in the city of Homs on Friday, killing one person and wounding others.Videos posted on social networking sites Friday night showed protesters in Homs tearing down a large poster of Hafez Assad, the late Syrian president, over the entrance to the Officers Club. The footage could not be independently verified.In the southern city of Daraa, protesters on Friday regained control of the al-Omari mosque — the epicenter of the past week's deadly protests.Tens of thousands had poured into Daraa's central Assad Square after Friday prayers, many from nearby villages, chanting Freedom! Freedom! and waving Syrian flags and olive branches, witnesses said. Some attacked a bronze statue of Hafez Assad.Troops responded with heavy gunfire, according to a resident who said he saw two bodies and many wounded people brought to Daraa's main hospital.After night fell, thousands of enraged protesters snatched weapons from a far smaller number of troops and chased them out of Daraa's Roman-era old city, taking back control of the al-Omari mosque.
The accounts could not be immediately independently confirmed because of Syria's tight restrictions on the press.A Daraa resident said up to 2,000 people were holed up in and around the mosque on Saturday, adding security troops had retreated.The Syrian government said 34 had been slain in Daraa before Friday, while the U.N. human rights office put the figure at 37. Activists said it was as high as 100. In Damascus, the heart of Bashar Assad's rule, protests and clashes broke out in multiple neighborhoods as crowds of regime opponents marched and thousands of Assad loyalists drove in convoys, shouting, Bashar, we love you! The two sides battled, whipping each other with leather belts, in the old city of Damascus outside the historic Umayyad mosque, parts of which date to the 8th century. About two miles (three kilometers) away, central Umayyad Square was packed with demonstrators who traded punches and hit each other with sticks from Syrian flags, according to AP reporters at the scene.

Syrian troops storm protest sit-in near Damascus
By ZEINA KARAM, Associated Press - MAR 26,11

March 24, 2011 Beck: White House's Head-Scratching Response to World Events | Glenn Beck With: Glenn Beck-This is a rush transcript from Glenn Beck,March 23, 2011. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.
GLENN BECK, HOST: Welcome to The Glenn Beck Program.Tonight, it's a doozy. It's actually -- it kind of fell together in my head. This is one for the DVR.The average American -- I don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, independent, it doesn't matter. We're all -- we're all scratching our heads over the events of the days. We're looking at things and they just don't make sense. They don't make sense to us. There's leaders all around the world that say it doesn't make sense.So, what's happening? Well, let's look at some of the things that don't make sense and see if we can tie them together tonight.High oil prices -- we have high oil prices but we're not drilling. In fact, I will give you an update on this. It's much worse than not drilling. And yet, this weekend, we help Brazil drill. We're giving them permits to do things that we won't do in our own water and then we say we want to buy it. It doesn't make sense.The president supports the youth revolution in Egypt -- oh, he's a big cheerleader for that. Democratic revolution, but not for the democratic revolution in Iran and there are youth in Iran, too. And then he uses the military in Libya. That doesn't make sense.This administration has praised for the Muslim Brotherhood as peaceful but cries that the Tea Party is violent. And then when you go to Madison, the unions are actually being violent and he says they're peaceful. It doesn't make sense.No war for oil. No war. No war without Congress. And then we have war -- war without Congress, war for oil and war with a third Muslim country. That really doesn't make sense!
France is leading the attack. That never made sense.And we disrespect England and Israel -- traditional allies -- while we're friendly with our traditional foes.I don't know if you have a feeling inside that something is not right. But you can't put it all together. But you feel like our allies have changed.Do you really feel like we are being a friend to Israel? Is America on the wrong side? I think we are.
Two things to watch for -- one -- Israel is about to strike back. Israel can only take so much. Nobody in the press is covering what's happening to Israel. But when Israel strikes back -- which they are being forced to do now -- watch out, because the gates of hell are going to open up and we will do nothing. And it's worse than that, as you will see tonight.The second thing -- I think you need to watch for a call to come from Washington to pull out our troops in the Middle East -- which may be our best option -- which would send the world in to chaos. But the other option will be soon to send more troops because of its humanitarian crisis. Either way you slice it, our troops and our nation is at peril.Tonight, I believe I can put some of this together in your head and some of these things will make sense. You won't like the answer but they will make sense.
(MUSIC)BECK: Hello, America.Nothing in the world makes sense. Tonight, we're going to shed some light on some of the issues and decisions that are leaving people a little confused. We have some updates on the economic terrorist plot that we expose on this program Monday. That doesn't make sense.Now, these are not just run-of-the-mill bad decisions. This is putting our country at stake. And there is a motivating force behind some of these decisions. And sometimes, these forces work together intentionally and sometimes unintentionally. Sometimes, it's just a friend of the enemy of my enemy is my friend.But I will tell you that these are some of the motivations that I can find that -- some of them are just the traditional stuff. People make decisions all the time and the world is no different -- on money, on power and on faith.Which are you motivated by? Because those are really -- these motives that are controlling the world right now. This is a motive that will begin to motivate people to come to the people who are driven by faith, power or money.
You're going to see the motives of destroy Israel. There are people that want to destroy Israel and wipe it off the map.To redistribute the wealth because they care so much.
To destroy capitalism or the Western way of life -- there are many people that are trying to do this. And some of them believe in an open society, like George Soros. I want you to know, an open society is not -- an open society a power structure. It's not like I want to talk to everybody. Let's have an open discussion and open -- that's not what it is. It is a competitor. People want to create a new world order.
There is a lot to cover. I'm going to lay a lot of this out tonight and we're going to move rapidly. These are the kind of shows that always get me into trouble. But you know what? We have come to a point in our nation's history that you must speak.Do you know who this man is? This is Dietrich Bonhoeffer. This is something that hangs in my office just down the street.Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.
I look at this every day -- every day.Another way of saying it here in America is this. Here it is. Basically, this is the ad in New York -- 60 million eyes in this city and we're counting on all of them. If you see something, say something.Well, I see something. And I'm going to say something because that's what we promised each other we would do on 9/11. If you see something, say something. And if we don't have responsible people, enough people in the country that care enough with the country and freedom that will do their homework, not run off all half-cocked, do your own homework. If you don't believe me -- look it all up. Do your homework. Do not take my opinion.And please, enough, George Soros. He's got 86 people now on staff at Media Matters -- 86 -- and the CEO of Media Matters said, Well, we need to hire some more. He was fundraising. We need to hire more because it takes a lot of people to correct all of Glenn Beck's nonsense.
There are 10 people -- 10 -- that work on the program. Ten that put it together -- ten! It takes 86 to try to tear us down.Tonight, you're going to see the big picture. But I want you to remember this man and please read this book, Dietrich Bonhoeffer.If you see something, say something.There are people who are watching this program saying, Glenn, I know. And every day, I see it get closer, but I don't know what to do.I will say this until my dying breath -- this is a sacred and special land. It is. There are many in this country that don't believe it. It is sacred and special. And it was set apart for a special purpose and I don't know what it is, but I don't think we've hit it yet.And as long as the citizens that inhabit this land turn to God and try to serve him and be good, we can expect his protection. The Founders talked about it. He is the only one that can shield us.
And I am telling you, for as much trouble as I'm going to show you tonight that we are in -- and it will cascade, you will start to see the whole picture -- I will tell you this, for as much trouble as there is out there, with firm reliance on the divine -- the protection of Divine Providence, I tell you now expect miracles in your lifetime. I believe you will see the hand of God protecting this nation. I promise you that. A great storm is coming, but we will make it.OK, there is a world view -- there is a world view that has been allowed to fester and it is anything other than a republic. There is an open society and look how many people are swarming around in an open society with George Soros. There is the United Nations. And there are so many people in the United Nations. There's a caliphate. There's communism. They all want global domination.And then there is the Jeffersonian republic. And here we are.We haven't been organizing, but they have. And they've been allowed to organize and fester and grow because nobody believed they could ever come to this point. Nobody would ever believe that they could defeat the U.S. without guns and that the world would turn its guns on freedom. But we are here, gang. We're here.So, here we go, here are the things that just don't make sense in Libya. In Libya -- I don't even understand Libya.Let me go back to the beginning on Libya. You have to go -- before Libya, you have to go to Tunisia because everything else is dominoes. Tunisia, on January 31st, I said Tunisia might be our Archduke Ferdinand moment. I've been looking for it for the last five or six years.Archduke Ferdinand -- Ferdinand's assassination ended up sparking a world war. But at the time, the public didn't perceive the significance of that moment. Tunisia may indeed, in the end, be our modern day Archduke Ferdinand moment that will plunge the world into war. The press covered it. But if the uprising stopped, if it would have stopped there, it just would have been a blip.WikiLeaks was influential in kick-starting that uprising. WikiLeaks, anti-capitalism, knock America down, redistribute the wealth, anti-Israel -- there's all kind of motives with WikiLeaks. But they're just telling the truth and so, it starts in WikiLeaks.And then the uprising spreads. And the next place it really catches fire is Egypt. Now, when it's catching fire here in Egypt, I explained this theory on what is happening and I've been criticized before. In fact, that's all that ever happens, since nobody ever takes my theories and proves them wrong. What they do instead is just prove me to be some sort of an idiot or whatever.
Great!It's not about me. I have never -- I've seen opposition. I have never seen opposition strike this fast, this hard, as this one did on the media. And all they said the same thing. The people who are applauding Al Jazeera and saying, We got real news there, are calling call me a conspiracy theorist because this is what I said:Radicals, Islamists, communists and socialists will work together against Israel, against capitalism and overturn stability. The protest will become contagious. They will cascade, sweep the Middle East, begin to destabilize Europe and the rest of the world.Conspiracy theory? What was it that Cass Sunstein suggested? I want you to remember -- can you give me the picture of Cass Sunstein real quick, it's on the board up there? You know, you got to remember Cass Sunstein here because he's going to play an important role tonight. Cass Sunstein, he is in the White House Office of Information -- important -- Information and Regulation -- also important. He wrote a paper where he was talking about how government might ban conspiracy theories, somehow defined, and that you should discredit conspiracy theories even if they ended up being true by just calling them conspiracy theories and the government should actually get actively involved in that.OK. So, we're discredited. But Egypt -- Egypt has the president's reaction, too. Now, the president goes out of his way to support the uprisings. Rise up. Rise up.Now, this is odd because that is the -- Egypt is the only thing that is protecting Israel. They have this huge army. And that's the keystone, if you will, of protecting Israel and keeping some sort of peace. And Mubarak has been a traditional ally. He's a bad guy, but Obama doesn't even flinch -- he doesn't flinch in supporting here.But he also doesn't flinch to when he hears the cries of the people in Iran. He doesn't flinch. He doesn't look. I don't know if he's playing golf. I don't know where he is.
He says, rise up, overthrow. But here in Iran, he remains quiet.This is pro-Israel under Mubarak. This is anti-Israel under Iran. But Mubarak has to go. He urges revolution. The State Department even works closely with activists to help destabilize the region and trigger Egypt's revolution.Our government at that time dismisses the Muslim Brotherhood. They say they're not anti-Israel, they're secular.
But that doesn't make sense because while they are saying that, we have the leader of their spiritual Muslim Brotherhood side giving a speech a week later in the square. We're showing you this while he's telling you they are peaceful, we're saying, warning: this guy is coming back. A week later, he comes back and he gives a speech here to these people.It was 31 years since he was able to give a speech. In it, he says he despises Israel, in his own words, he's advocating using children as human bonds, go kill Israel without fear.But they say the Muslim Brotherhood won't play a role. Wall Street Journal says the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood founded in '28, the remnants of the old ruling National Democratic Party are the loudest champion of today's referendum, and the current timetable. They want elections before democratic forces can organize. So, we have the Muslim Brotherhood that they tell us are not radicals -- but they are -- and are not going to play a role, will.But the revolutions spread. They spread throughout the region. They spread over to Bahrain. They spread down to Syria and Oman and Saudi Arabia. But we're only protecting here, remember. Something is wrong -- because as this is happening, the president cannot take again like he did with Iran, he cannot take five minutes to make a statement on Libya and say, rise up.He is too busy -- believe it or not this is true -- he took time and rearranged his schedule so he could coach his daughter's basketball team. Well, when I first heard that, I thought, OK, well, he's a dad, that's OK. But then I found out his daughter isn't playing or practicing that day, she's skiing.Not a word about Qaddafi. He lets it stew. As he sits back, the world finally starts to come to a consensus. Obama says he's going to wait for the U.N. He wants the U.N. to take the lead. And Europe openly questions if Obama even cares about this at all.
So, are we seeing the world view of the United Nations? Well, you could say that. Remember, the president was cheering for Egypt and Madison but silent on Qaddafi.
Now, we know Jeremiah Wright praises Qaddafi. We know that Farrakhan is a fan. And Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright visited Qaddafi. But that does -- what does that tell you?I couldn't understand. I couldn't understand why he wasn't just securing the air space.And so, we told you when we found this, that Muammar Qaddafi, as recent as 2009, had an American PR firm work to rehabilitate his image around the globe. This is really interesting.I'm going to turn this around. He worked to rehabilitate the image of Qaddafi and some people were involve that were interesting. It's monitor, it's out of Harvard. They wanted to rehabilitate him.Who was involved? Well, there was Cass Sunstein and George Soros. Now, Soros is the biggest donor to the Fabian socialist London School of Economics -- a school that Qaddafi's son attended. And Soros helped Qaddafi's son get in.Remember, rehabilitating the image. Soros encourages the London School of Economics to accept a $1.5 million donation from Qaddafi's son and when Qaddafi's son gets caught plagiarizing on his thesis and Soros had vouched for him -- well, Soros was humiliated and he offered this statement, that, quote -- he had advised the school it was acceptable to receive the contribution from Qaddafi's son, Saif, on the grounds that it appeared at the time to be a believer in an open society. And he claimed to be moving Libya in that direction.Remember, an open society. What is it? According to Karl Popper, who, by the way, is Soros' mentor, an association of free individuals respecting each other's rights within the framework of mutual protection supplied by the state, thus achieving through the making of responsible, rational decisions, a growing measure of humane and enlightened life.So, we have to go to some guy, Popper -- that you've never heard of, I've never heard of -- but he loves, instead of going back to our Founders. It's a new world order.But there's more to this -- more to this that we tied together today that just starting to make things look a little dangerous for America and Israel. I'll show it to you when we come back.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: All right. I know we're moving fast tonight. Please DVR this show and share it with a friend.I've been telling you something is not right in Libya. And I'm going to show you how our good friend of Israel is being led into war and it will start the world on fire. I'm going to tie this together for you tonight.OK. England and France -- we have England and France. Now, since when has America ever followed France? England and France, we're following them into war. Two colonial powers and why are they going in to help the people of Libya?
Why?
Three little letters. They get oil from Libya, right?
So, the president from the left goes and follows colonial powers to fight a war for oil.
Now, here's the justification that he has used. The Responsibility Project, the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect.
All right. We have Soros and Cass Sunstein helping rehabilitate Qaddafi because, in Soros' words, he promised an open society. But then Soros is burned. In Libya, France and England are followed in. After the U.N. approves -- the U.S. says OK. And what they are using is the responsibility to protect.
Now, most people have never even heard of this. They don't know. But the U.N. has embraced this concept, but most Americans haven't paid attention to the U.N. And it sounds good on the outset. It asserts that government must protect their people from four evils: genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. It's great. Those four things, who doesn't -- who is not against those?
Now, if they don't do that, then the international community can take some steps, including the dispatch of U.N. envoy, the imposition by the U.N. Security Council of sanctions and the threat of International Criminal Court, ICC prosecution.
So far, it sounds good -- except it's all international crap. But let's just go with it. All right, all those things.
But the red flags -- the red flags began today when I started to look and see who was for it, who was leading the idea. It was Samantha Powers. Do you even know who she is? She's currently an adviser to Obama on foreign policy. She wrote a book called "The Problem from Hell." Do we have that book here? Here it is. "The Problem from Hell." Right here. It's all about genocide.
Obama called her after reading her book on genocide. But it really wasn't -- it really wasn't Obama, because then he left to Harvard. She left for Harvard to work for Obama. And she became his foreign policy adviser. So, she's in the White House.
But it was more than just a book.
See, this book is really quite anti-Israel, because they are played out right now. Before she was officially advising the president, someone else asked her what her policy would be if she were to advise the president on Israeli-Palestinian issues. Now listen, here's how she responds. Watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SAMANTHA POWERS, OBAMA ADVISER: Putting something on the line might mean alienating a domestic constituency of tremendous political and financial import; it may more crucially mean sacrificing -- or investing, I think, more than sacrificing -- billion of dollars, not in servicing Israel's, you know, military, but actually investing in the new state of Palestine, in investing billions of dollars it would probably take, also, to support, I think, what will have to be mammoth protection force.
(END VIDEO CLIP)BECK: A mammoth. Let's remember this -- a mammoth -- three Ms or one? Three.Not often a bad speller gets the word mammoth. Mammoth -- do you know how bad this job is for somebody who is a really lousy speller? Mammoth protection force -- let's remember that.So, now, she's an adviser. She's saying that we have to stop investing in Israel and start investing in this new Palestinian state. And it's a mammoth protection force that they need, one that would protect against Israel. OK?
Now -- so, who is she? Let me come back over here for a second because she's the one who convinced -- according to all the papers -- she's the one who convinced Barack Obama to go ahead and follow England and France -- and I see their underpants. Obama is now attacking with these guys because she is one who's the linchpin.But there are a few things you need to know. She's not just an author. Guess who took this idea from her book and got it done? Guess who thought, hey, you know what, this is a brilliant idea? George Soros.The Global Center for the Responsibility to Protect lists George Soros' Open Society Institute as one of the two foundations that bankroll it. So, this policy that we're following from the U.N. came actually from her to him. But someone is missing here.Muammar Qaddafi. Sure. We're going after him. But then look, Cass Sunstein, he's all alone. Is it good for him to be all alone like that over here? No, no, no. He should find a mate. Oh, you know, who -- this makes a cute couple. I pronounce them husband and wife.
She is married to Cass Sunstein.You couldn't write this. If it were a movie, people would walk out. It's not a movie. And the ending depends on you. The ending of this movie only each individual American can write, but you better catch up to the movie before the ending catches up to you.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: This is complex, but I have never treated you as a moron. As you will see, there are -- there are two answers that will solve this problem and that is the light -- the light. We need the light. And then the light, as in sunlight, is the best disinfectant. Those are the two answers.There is a fight for power right now and it is obvious that America has lost power. We are not leading the world. You know that and I know that. And you know we -- something's not right here. And now what's happening is the players in the world are fighting to take the top dog spot, and they don't agree on everything. But they do agree on these few things -- I showed you at the beginning. They're anti-Israel. They want to realign the power. They want to defeat capitalism or the western way of life. They're anti-American, anti-west.Now, Libya is the key to this. Libya -- France is leading in England. That bothered me and we were waiting for the U.N. And then we started using this responsibility to protect. It's this idea that came from -- you would think from the U.N. It didn't. The idea comes from -- what's her name? Susan Powers. She is -- what's her name? Samantha Powers. Samantha Powers. Now she is -- she's here advising the president of the United States, but she's also the wife of Cass Sunstein. Don't they make a cute little couple? So the idea comes from Powers, the wife of Cass Sunstein. And Soros likes the idea and funds the idea. And it's an idea out of this book. It becomes this, funded by him. And the U.N. adopts the idea and this is the idea that she advises him to use to go into Libya to go to war. Got it? Now I want to introduce you because this is so much more than Libya. This really has nothing to do with Libya. Libya -- Muammar Qaddafi -- it doesn't matter to him. He doesn't care. Muammar Qaddafi -- if he is on the side for the open society, great. If he's not, he's out. It doesn't matter. As his number two man told us, the ship has sailed. You're either on it or you're off. It doesn't matter. It's the open society that matters to him.Now, the U.N.'s special repertoire on human rights in occupied Palestine territories. That sounds -- that sounds (INAUDIBLE) is this guy, Richard Falk. Richard Falk is very anti-Israel. He said in a report delivered to the Human Rights Council in Geneva that Israeli policies amount to ethnic cleansing and wars -- and crimes against humanity. Oh, but he goes much further than that. Listen to him speak about Israel.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
RICHARD FALK: Tons of collective punishment that are being imposed on the entire people of Gaza have a resemblance to collective punishment that was imposed by the Nazis in Germany. And that if this kind of circumstance is allowed to persist, it could produce a holocaust.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
BECK: Could produce a holocaust. It could produce a holocaust. It could produce a holocaust. By the way, just like Van Jones, he's also a 9/11 truther. OK. So wait a minute. What does this say? Could you please put up the bullet points here of the things that this does that we all agree on? We all agree on the things that this is supposed to protect people of -- of the responsibility to protect. Do you have -- do you have that thing up? It is -- it's fantastic. I'm sorry to ask for it out of the blue like that.It says -- there it is. We're supposed to protect against genocide war crimes, ethnic cleaning, crimes against humanity. You know what? A word that would really just sum that all up is a holocaust. So here's the guy at the U.N. saying that Israel, the way that they're treating the people in Gaza could produce a holocaust.Now he wants to use this -- the responsibility to protect -- to invade
-- not Libya. He would like to use it to invade Israel because he believes that Israel is engaged in ethnic cleaning and crimes against humanity. Two of the four platforms of this.
The idea is that the international community -- if it ever decided that you, as a country, were doing crimes against humanity, then they would be justified in intervening. Now if you think this is nuts, let me show you what the deputy prime minister of Turkey -- you remember what I told you a couple of weeks ago. Watch Turkey. Something's not right in Turkey.Deputy prime minister, quote, We wish the United Nations had made such resolutions and countries had taken action in the face of the incidents in Gaza, Palestine and other regions. This guy is asking now to use this to go into Israel. An open society. A borderless world going against Israel. Boy, we haven't even begun.Gang, we are on the wrong side. How could Sunstein be for Muammar Qaddafi and Soros? How could they be for him and now they're against him. Well, it's really quite easy. It's really quite easy, and I'll show you next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: Tonight we're throwing together a show for you and I mean throwing together. We've spent a long time on all of these facts, and we put them together for you today. And we're trying to move as rapidly as we can. It's a lot and I appreciate your patience with us. And please DVR the shows and tie them all together.On tomorrow, a special show about the Fed that you don't want to miss.While everyone was wondering about Libya and what was going on, no one, we noticed, was talking about Israel. First of all, we were the only show that gave complete coverage on the slaughter of the Fogel family. Five members of an Israeli family, they were brutally stabbed to death by terrorists. Mom, dad, three kids age 11, four, and three months old, stabbed by Palestinian terrorists. The kids were found next to their toys lying in pools of blood. And what's worse, the Palestinians were dancing in the streets when they heard the news. No one covered it.Then we came back after last weekend and everybody was talking about the bombing on Libya, and we asked again why no one was covering the largest rocket pounding into Israel in the last two years.Benjamin Netanyahu had come out the Friday before and said the communists, the socialists and extremists had created a fusion and were working together, but he was all but ignored.
Yesterday there was a terrorist bombing in Israel and the deputy prime minister of Turkey is calling for the bombing of Israel now with this: the U.N. Responsibility to Protect funded by Soros, pushed by Cass Sunstein's wife who's an adviser in the White House, and what we're using to go into Libya.Now let me ask you, Israel is under tremendous pressure. Netanyahu said they are going to have to retaliate. I want to show you this map real quick. I mean, Israel I surrounded -- oops, sorry, you lost me on that. Israel is surrounded. Israel, surrounded. Surrounded. For the first time that the government of the United States of America, the administration -- first time in my life I think we have sold out our ally of Israel. We are on the wrong side.You have people -- you have people that are pushing for a grand solution. And what was it Cass Sunstein's wife called for? She said a mammoth protection force. Something that would be great, a mammoth protection force against Israel. Well, the Muslim Brotherhood are about to have their hands on a mammoth protection force. It used to be called the Egyptian army. Why fund it when you can just take it?
I contend part of this mammoth army may be the Egyptian army. This mammoth army that Mrs. Sunstein -- Mrs. Powers has been longing for may be soon also the Libyan army. You have "TIME Magazine" reporting that Obama knew, or may have known -- his advisers did -- that the rebels we are now protecting may be al Qaeda or the Muslim Brotherhood. I contend that Gaza is also being armed.Let me show you this photo. This is a ship from Turkey where they are smuggling arms into Gaza. The one thing that is hanging out there that needs to be solved is if you're trying to make Qaddafi into a hero, why go after him? Because the enemy of my enemy is my friend, but once my friend has been defeated, he is again my enemy.Soros dishonored himself. He allowed himself to be dishonored by vouching for Qaddafi because he said Libya was going to be part of his open society. Well that ship has sailed.Have you ever heard the phrase, there is no honor among thieves? The ship has sailed. Do you really think Soros ever really considered Qaddafi friends? Finish the puzzle. They were never friends. He is useful on our side, great. If he's more useful on the other side, great, I don't really care. All they care is about winning the game. It's in rules for radicals. The ends justifies the means. The win is the destruction of Israel, the destruction of capitalism, the destruction of the economic system. And to the winner goes the spoils. Who will win?
