Analysis 'It can be 400 people flying from Dubai with no air marshal'Israel has unprecedented air security, but flydubai incident raises key questions
With air marshals, screening and cockpit rules — not to mention the IAF — Israel has famously secure civil flights. Does that help when foreign airlines have different rules? By Lazar Berman and Emanuel Fabian Today, 9:20 pm-SEP 30,26

Wednesday’s flydubai flight that made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after the copilot apparently attempted to crash the plane appears to be the closest Israeli air travelers have come to being intentionally killed in over two decades.Though some details remain hazy, the incident raises unsettling questions about vulnerabilities at a time when Israel’s enemies have ample incentive to try to carry out mass casualty attacks against its citizens.Wednesday’s narrowly averted disaster evokes another attempted attack in 2002. On November 28 of that year — at the same time 10 Kenyans and three Israelis were killed and 80 others wounded when a car bomb went off at Mombasa’s Israeli-owned Paradise Hotel — a surface-to-air missile targeted, but missed, an Arkia plane carrying 271 people as it took off from Mombasa airport. That attempted mass murder of Israeli passengers came a little over a year after 78 passengers and crew, mostly Israelis, were killed when their flight from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk, Russia, was accidentally shot down by the Ukrainian Air Force. And the memory of a string of plane hijackings by Palestinian terror groups jumps to the mind of Israelis when their countrymen are targeted in the air.The famous 1976 Entebbe raid in which Israeli commandos rescued 102 of 106 hostages after their Air France flight was diverted by terrorists to Uganda cost the life of the rescue operation’s commander, Yoni Netanyahu.Four years earlier, his younger brother Benjamin — today Israel’s prime minister — was part of an elite Sayeret Matkal team that rescued 90 passengers from a Sabena flight that members of the Palestinian Black September organization hijacked and forced to land in Israel. The era of high-profile Palestinian plane hijackings was set off in 1968, when PFLP terrorists carried out the only successful hijacking of an El Al flight, forcing it to land in Algeria. The 12 Jewish passengers were eventually freed 40 days later when Israel agreed to release 16 terrorists.Unprecedented security-It is no secret that flights are an enticing target for enemy countries and terrorist groups. If the plane is taken over and forced to land in hostile territory, the hijackers have dozens, potentially hundreds of Israeli passengers as bargaining chips. And if hijackers crash the plane, they are potentially killing more Israeli civilians than a dozen successful suicide bombings or rocket attacks.Israel has recognized this danger for much of its existence and takes unprecedented measures to keep its civilian planes safe. Before passengers can check in, they have to speak with security officials, who are trained to identify suspicious behavior and attempts to hide information.Once onboard, more unique measures protect passengers. All Israeli airlines have armed air marshals on every international flight.El Al planes even have anti-missile systems installed to protect them from repeat attempts of the 2002 incident. The cockpits, the target of plane hijackings, are carefully protected as well. Cockpit doors are bulletproof and must be locked at all times during the flight.Pilots need to leave the cockpit at times to receive food and use the bathroom, so the cockpits have double doors, meaning one is locked at all times.IAF protection-Israel’s military is also a key player in securing civilian flights.Part of the Israeli Air Force’s role is to deal with unusual incidents involving civilian aircraft making their way to Israel, including preventing the possibility of an airborne terror attack. The IAF said it has a protocol that can be activated in a variety of scenarios, including an aircraft deviating from its planned flight path, failing to respond to radio calls, transmitting a distress signal, experiencing a technical malfunction, or a passenger suffering a medical emergency that requires an emergency landing. When the protocol is activated, various measures are taken to protect Israeli airspace. If necessary, Israeli airspace is closed, and fighter jets are scrambled to identify and escort the civilian aircraft.Meanwhile, the military conducts constant assessments until the circumstances of the incident are understood and the concern is resolved.A military official said the IAF routinely drills the protocol, with an emphasis on resolving incidents within short periods of time and making rapid decisions.Relevant IAF forces are required to know how to move, within a short period of time, from identifying an irregularity or suspicious sign to understanding the situation and activating the appropriate response. The activation of the protocol does not necessarily indicate suspicion of a security incident, as it has occasionally been activated due to technical malfunctions, communication problems, deviations from a flight path, or human errors by aircraft crews making their way to Israel. The military official said the IAF examines every unusual incident until the concern is resolved, adding that the IAF is prepared “at all times to defend the country’s airspace and borders against a variety of threats, in routine and emergency situations.”“Forces remain on constant alert and work to maintain freedom of action and security in the airspace, while maintaining the ability to rapidly transition from routine operations to an operational response according to the development of the threat,” the official added.Vulnerabilities-Even with the multi-layered security in place, there are always vulnerabilities.Wednesday’s incident highlighted those connected to non-Israeli carriers flying in and out of the country.Foreign carriers, like flydubai, often fly to or from Ben Gurion Airport full of Israeli citizens, but don’t have the same security measures in place. Israel cannot mandate air marshals, cockpit security, or pre-boarding checks.“It can be a flight of 400 people from Dubai with no air marshal on board,” an Israeli air security professional told The Times of Israel.Surprisingly — and seemingly a major part of Wednesday’s incident — Israel can’t limit the nationality of foreign pilots flying into Israel, as long as they stay on the plane, said the expert. The flydubai pilot who stabbed his partner was reportedly an Omani national, a country that does not recognize Israel.Israel often comes to agreements with other countries about preventing pilots from certain countries from flying into Israel, but, for reasons that have yet to surface, that didn’t seem to have kept a pilot reportedly from Oman from flying a plane full of Israelis toward Tel Aviv.Other pressing questions remain unanswered, especially foreign involvement. Was the attacker acting alone, or was he operating at the behest of a foreign power, especially Iran? The Islamic Republic has been behind numerous terror plots against Jewish and Israeli targets.Numerous Iranian attempts to direct terror attacks inside of Israel in the past two years have been foiled, according to the Mossad. In April, the Mossad and Shin Bet announced that Israel had exposed an Iranian terror network that targeted Israeli officials and assets around the world.Prior to that, in October 2025, the Mossad revealed information about a transnational terror network run by the IRGC’s Quds Force that it said was behind a string of recent attacks on Jewish sites in Western countries. In 2024, an Argentinian court placed the blame on Iran for ordering deadly attacks in 1992 on Israel’s embassy and the 1994 attack on the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish center. No evidence has emerged linking Iran to the flydubai incident. But it is one of several pressing questions that remains unanswered as Israel, the Emiratis, and other partners take stock of what could have been a national tragedy.

Cockpit attack puts spotlight on flydubai, a key air link for Israelis since Oct. 7-Airline, which has played important role in helping Israelis travel to locations across world via Dubai, announces suspension of service to and from Israel as incident investigated-By JTA and ToI Staff Today, 2:38 am-SEP 30,26

The apparent attempt to crash flydubai Flight 1073 has put a spotlight on the Emirati airline, which has become a main air link connecting Israelis to the rest of the world. The incident could also test the relationship between Israel and one of the airlines that has come to symbolize the ties forged by the 2020 Abraham Accords, in which the United Arab Emirates was one of a small number of Arab countries that recognized Israel.Flydubai, a Dubai government-owned airline, began operating in 2009 and launched regular flights to Israel in 2020, shortly after the UAE and Israel established diplomatic relations. When war broke out in October 2023 after the Hamas-led attack on Israel, many foreign airlines suspended flights to the country for extended periods. Flydubai and other UAE airlines continued operating flights to and from Israel through much of the conflict, providing an important connection for Israelis seeking to travel abroad at a time when international air service to the country was severely reduced. The airline has also become an important hub for Israelis traveling beyond the UAE itself. Through Dubai, passengers can connect to destinations across Asia, Africa and other regions. The airline operates dozens of flights between Tel Aviv and Dubai each week.According to Ben Gurion Airport data for August, flydubai carried roughly 90,000 passengers during the month. Since the beginning of 2026, more than 420,000 passengers have flown with the airline to or from Ben Gurion, accounting for roughly 4% of the airport’s international passenger traffic and placing it third among international airlines operating at the airport by passenger volume. The incident aboard Flight 1073 could now put that relationship under scrutiny.Transportation Minister Miri Regev has reportedly asked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately suspend flydubai flights to Israel until the circumstances of Wednesday’s incident are clarified, according to Hebrew media reports.Regev said flydubai violated the countries’ aviation agreement, which she described as requiring pilots operating flights to Israel to be citizens of countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations. Israeli and international media have reported that the copilot who instigated the incident was an Omani national.Former Israeli ambassador to the UAE Amir Hayek pushed back against calls to suspend the flight. In a post on X, Hayek wrote that flydubai and Etihad were the only two airlines in the world that continued flying to Israel “even during the most difficult times,” and argued that the UAE and the airline should be allowed to fully investigate what happened rather than face action based on speculation.“I trust them,” he wrote. The Emirati airline later announced however that all flydubai flights to and from Israel would be suspended while an investigation into the incident was ongoing.“This temporary suspension will allow the relevant authorities to continue their work and establish all the facts surrounding the incident,” a flydubai spokesperson said. “We are fully committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and maintaining the highest safety standards across our network.”“We remain in close coordination with government authorities, regulators and airport stakeholders and will review the suspension as more information becomes available,” the spokesperson added. The episode came as Flydubai continues to expand its global network. The airline said this month that it was operating an average of 2,200 flights a week and serving more than 125 destinations in 56 countries. Its partnership with the major airline Emirates gives passengers access to a combined network of more than 214 unique destinations in more than 100 countries, with more than 4,600 possible connections through Dubai.

Safely home 'Life is stronger than everything, we decided to fight for it'Hailing pilot and three Israeli heroes, passengers say midair ‘miracles’ thwarted alleged attempt to crash plane-Indian flydubai pilot saluted for using ‘last moments of his energy’ to click open cockpit door so knife-wielding copilot could be subdued by Israelis, one of whom says he knew how to then stabilize plane from watching TV show about air crashes-By ToI Staff, Emanuel Fabian, aron Wrobel and Nava Freiberg Today, 12:53 am-SEP 30,26

Passengers saved from a copilot’s apparent attempt to crash a flydubai flight landed safely in Israel on Wednesday, with the heroes who thwarted him sharing the story of their efforts after arriving at Ben Gurion Airport.Footage taken by an Israeli on the flydubai rescue flight showed passengers cheering and singing as their plane touched down at Ben Gurion Airport, after their earlier flight from Dubai made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia due to an alleged attempt by the copilot to deliberately crash the plane. There were reportedly 166 Israelis and eight other passengers on the rescue flight, which departed Saudi Arabia after six hours on the ground. Some were given medical treatment in the terminal.Several of the passengers were initially unwilling to board the second flydubai plane for the journey home. Israel had wanted to send its own planes to return them, but Saudi authorities refused.Mossad officials approved the plane’s flight crew, and the passengers then agreed to board, Channel 12 news reported.A 51-year-old man aboard the flight was taken to an Israeli hospital in good condition after suffering trauma to his upper body, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service, which said it examined all of the passengers. The flydubai captain who was attacked by his copilot was identified as Indian national Smit Machchhar.Machchhar was stabbed by his copilot, who is said to be an Omani national. Some passengers said Machchhar was stabbed in his head and hands, and badly wounded.Machchhar lives in Dubai and has 13 years of experience as a pilot, including over four with flydubai, The Times of India reported.Amid the attack, the plane initially plummeted some 17,000 feet in under two minutes. A group of Israeli passengers managed to force their way into the cockpit, subdue the stabber and stabilize the plane, witnesses said.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s spokesperson Doron Spielman said the wounded captain, bloodied and lying on the floor, had drawn on “the last moments of his energy” to click open the release on the cockpit door.“At that moment, some of the passengers who realized something was happening raced forward, entered the pilot’s cabin. They saw the injured pilot on the ground, and the other… the attacking pilot was standing over the control panel, bashing the control panel,” he said. After being attacked by his copilot, Machchhar was treated by Dr. Shota Musayev, an Israeli dentist on board.“When I heard screaming, after 10 seconds I ran — I didn’t wait,” Musayev told The Times of Israel upon arriving back in the country. “When I came into the cockpit, the pilot was in real bad shape, with heavy bleeding, particularly from his head.”“I was the only doctor on the plane, and eventually I managed to stop the bleeding and stabilize his blood pressure,” he said.Musayev, who was traveling back from China, said he provided emergency medical treatment to the badly wounded 39-year-old pilot, which he believes helped save his life.“These were very hard moments, but together with a few brave people on the plane, we managed to avert a situation that was very close to a disaster,” he recounted. “Now I just want to go home and hug my children.”Speaking separately with Channel 12, Musayev also recalled tying up the copilot’s hands and legs multiple times to ensure he would not break free and resume his attack.Netanyahu hailed Machchhar, calling him a “true hero” and wishing him a full recovery from his wounds.“My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic midair disaster,” Netanyahu wrote on X.“He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero,” the premier said.‘I watch Mayday’: Israeli hero credits Canadian documentary for helping him prevent nosedive-Yaniv Hayun, one of three Israeli passengers who helped subdue the attacker, recounted how he entered the cockpit, dragged the suspected assailant away from the controls and then helped stabilize the nosediving aircraft.Meeting Netanyahu at Ben Gurion Airport after returning to Israel, Hayun said he and another man forced their way into the cockpit, where the wounded pilot was lying near the door.“When I went in, I saw the terrorist on the controls, between the two seats. There were no pilots in the seats,” he recounted. “I grabbed the terrorist, put him in a hold, and first of all pulled him outside,” he said.Asked by Netanyahu what the alleged attacker had been doing, Hayun replied: “He was trying to destroy the controls in order to disable the plane.”Hayun said he called other Israelis on the flight to help hold back the man before returning to the cockpit as the aircraft was tilting sharply.“I jumped back in there, grabbed the controls, started pulling the controls,” he said, explaining that he pulled backward and quipping that he knew what to do because “I watch Mayday,” referring to a Canadian documentary television program that examines air crashes.“The plane started leveling out a little more, and then the pilot told me he was taking over from there,” he said.Fighting for life-Assaf Rajwan, another of the Israelis who helped subdue the copilot, told Channel 12 that the experience “was just [like] in the movies. I didn’t think something like this could happen in real life.”“It was a case of to be or not to be,” he said.According to Rajwan, who was injured in the incident “but not too badly,” passengers heard shouting from the cockpit, and the plane spiraled out of control. The cockpit door was open, and he and the other Israelis went in, together with members of the crew, and overcame the copilot. He praised the plane’s captain and the two off-duty pilots on board who subsequently managed to stabilize the plane.“We kept the terrorist neutralized for 55 minutes,” Rajwan added, “and we landed safely.”He said passengers were extremely reluctant to board another flydubai plane for the journey home, and did “not get clear answers” from Israeli authorities. They asked that the plane be delayed while checks were carried out on the second plane’s crew.He said he was “in shock — I can’t believe I was in Thailand a few hours ago… on a family vacation.”“I thank God… and everybody who helped” enable them to survive the incident, Rajwan said, stressing that it was not him alone who did so.“Life is stronger than everything, and we decided to fight for it,” he said. “It’s hard for me to believe that it ended the way it did… I’m very happy to be here.”Tzvika Manes, the third Israeli hero, also recalled the dramatic incident in an interview with Channel 12.Manes said his wife had been accompanying his young daughter to the bathroom at the front of the plane when she heard screams and a struggle taking place in the cockpit.Manes’s wife then got the attention of a flydubai flight attendant and told them to go into the cockpit to check what was going on.At this point, the pilot fell out of the cockpit door as his copilot was stabbing him, Manes said. The plane began to spiral dramatically toward the ground and passengers “went flying.”Manes said he pulled his daughter out of the bathroom before heading to engage the attacker. The two other Israelis joined him, with Hayun managing to take hold of the steering wheel and pull the plane back upward. It took roughly 20-25 minutes to subdue the alleged hijacker, with the three Israelis using corded headphones to tie him up.Manes likened the incident to a “horror film,” saying there were moments when he thought he would not come out alive. He recalled his daughters screaming “We don’t want to die,” as the plane nosedived — “something traumatic for any father to hear.”“It was a very difficult scenario… but because we’re Israelis, so we responded quickly,” he told Channel 12.Lital Shahar, another passenger, credited “two miracles” with saving her life along with those of her daughters and everyone else on the plane.“It was so scary to death on the plane. I felt sick. There are no words to describe what we experienced. Imagine I’m a mother and had my four girls next to me,“ Shahar, from Givat Shmuel, told The Times of Israel. “We were sitting fairly toward the front in row 10, so we were very close and could hear people screaming that there was a stabbing.”“There were two miracles — that Israelis were on the plane who heroically went into the cockpit… and that there were off-duty pilots onboard who could land the plane in Saudi Arabia,” Shahar recounted with great relief.Shahar expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome that passengers received at Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk airport after the flydubai flight succeeded in making an emergency landing.“We immediately felt safe because they were really amazing and generous,” said Shahar. “So many soldiers and nurses and doctors. They all spoke English and helped us.”“They didn’t stop saying, ‘You are in a safe place now,’” said Shahar.

I felt like 'September 11 is happening again'Passengers laud ‘heroism’ of Israelis who subdued flydubai flight attacker, as videos show moments of fear
Passenger Tzvika Manes describes a crew member entering cockpit and throwing copilot out, as he and two other Israelis jumped on him, tied him up with airline headphones-By ToI Staff, Emanuel Fabian and AFP 30 September 2026, 7:02 pm

Passengers on Wednesday described the horrifying moment when their flydubai flight dived thousands of feet during an alleged attempt by a copilot to crash the plane, and the heroic effort of passengers who managed to subdue the suspected attacker and prevent a disaster reminiscent of the September 11 attacks. Some of the 180-odd passengers on the commercial flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv told Hebrew media outlets that the flight’s copilot had stabbed the captain, at which point the plane lost control and dived 17,000 feet in under two minutes. Two off-duty pilots reportedly took the reins after the copilot, an Omani national, had been incapacitated by Israeli passengers who managed to enter the cockpit. The airline said that the motives behind the incident were still being investigated.Tzvika Manes, CEO of Bank Leumi’s underwriting arm Barak Leumi, was one of the passengers who subdued the copilot.“My younger daughter was in the bathroom, and my wife heard sounds in the cockpit,” he told the Kan public broadcaster. “Another team member entered the cockpit and saw the stabbing and threw him out. Three of us jumped on him with all our strength and tied him up with the multimedia headphones; that’s how we subdued him.”Videos taken by passengers aboard the flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv showed the moments after the plane took the rapid plunge.Footage taken by a passenger aboard the flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv after the plane took a rapid plunge. pic.twitter.com/O3vd5644pL — Emanuel (Mannie) Fabian (@manniefabian) September 30, 2026-Another video clip taken by a passenger aboard the flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv shows the plane taking a rapid plunge. According to flight tracking data, the plane dropped more than 14,000 feet in under 30 Seconds. Pic.twitter.com/wtiqBYhEw1 — Emanuel (Mannie) Fabian (@manniefabian) September 30, 2026-In another dramatic and graphic video from the plane, the captain was seen covered in blood on the floor of the aircraft, outside the cockpit, as passengers tended to him. A second crewmember was seen tied up beside him, seemingly nconscious.Passengers were heard telling others nearby that “it’s good for you” while they were filming. “You saved the plane. It’s good for you.”One Israeli passenger told the person filming: “We were attacked and were guarding the pilot.”Another passenger said: “They tried to murder the pilot. We subdued [the attacker].Someone pointed to the bound man and said: “This is the man who… stabbed him.”‘September 11 is happening again’A passenger identified as Daniel also shared his experiences on the flydubai plane with Channel 12 news.“Suddenly I heard a struggle. Something like a fight coming from the cockpit,” he said, on the phone from Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk Airport, where the plane made an emergency landing. “The door was slightly ajar, and I saw an attempt to push someone out. Then three Israelis who were sitting behind me came to see what was happening, and the plane suddenly went into a very steep dive, nose down, with a very intense spin.“From what I understood, a copilot stabbed the captain, and once they subdued the attacker, there were two other pilots on the plane, and they took control,” he said.“The spinning stopped. It took some — I don’t know, it felt like an eternity, but I think it was two minutes, at least two or three minutes, during which the plane was simply diving and spinning like crazy,” Daniel recounted. “It felt like, that’s it. It’s over. September 11 is happening again.”Made with Claude using Flightradar24 data. pic.twitter.com/PBgp8EO7d1 — Joshua Davidovich (@Josh_Davidovich) September 30, 2026-Daniel said he “definitely” thought it was a terrorist attack. “I heard the screams during the struggle and saw the blood on the floor from the pilot, who was brought out.”“Those three Israeli guys are real heroes. It’s hard to explain just how heroic they were,” he said. But Daniel said that at the time it was not clear at all that the danger had passed.“The focus was on neutralizing the guy, the attacker. I looked outside and saw desert; I couldn’t see anything. I realized Iran was close. Thoughts went through my head that they were hijacking the plane to Iran,” he said.yasnivDaniel said the two other pilots who took control initially did not communicate with the passengers, as they were apparently focused on securing the plane.“The pilots locked themselves in the cockpit, and we had no contact with the pilots,” he recalled. “There were also two flight attendants who were completely helpless, from flydubai. They were hysterical; they didn’t really know how to handle the situation.”He added: “All kinds of thoughts were running through our heads, but the moment we heard the pilot start speaking to the passengers and telling them that they were going to land, we calmed down.”Another unnamed passenger on the flydubai plane described how passengers prayed for their lives.“We heard screams on the plane. Then they opened the cockpit and we saw blood, and someone had stabbed the pilot with a pocketknife,” the unnamed woman told the network via text message. The woman said Israeli passengers helped restrain an attacker along with members of the crew. “We prayed, ‘Shema Yisrael,’” she said, referring to the prayer Jews have traditionally invoked before death.  “There were also moments when we thought we weren’t going to make it out alive.”Another woman, identifying herself as Noam, told the network in a call: “Screams began on the plane… by passengers who realized what was happening. We understand that one of the pilots was stabbed and seriously wounded, and they lost control of the plane. It started to dive quickly. It was very scary.”Passenger Hila Gayer told Kan radio that her daughter had gone to the restroom “when suddenly the plane dived.”“You feel like you’re in a crazy air pocket, like you’re descending and there’s terrible screaming. Crazy screaming, and you don’t understand what’s happening,” she said.Passenger Miryam Shira Ohayon said the plane was “pretty much out of control” during the altercation.“So the copilot tried to murder the pilot and basically carry out a suicide attack on the plane,” she told reporters by speakerphone held up by her mother, who was waiting at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv.“It was really on the way to crashing, and it was simply the resourcefulness of many people who took control of the copilot and neutralized him,” she said.“There was also a doctor who gave first aid, and people who treated both of them. Other than the pilot, there were no injuries, but the bigger fear was really a crash, which is exactly what he was trying to do.”Earlier, Yasmin Abukasis, Ohayon’s mother, told AFP her daughter called her from Saudi Arabia: “She said one pilot tried to kill the other pilot with a knife. They heard shouting”.Another passenger went to the cockpit “and saw a lot of blood. She started screaming ‘come help,’ and some people went in and caught the guy,” she added. “All the while, the plane started going down very fast. People thought they were going to die.”Asaf and Ofir Shani, who were seated almost all the way in the back of the flydubai plane, told Channel 12 that the flight attendants offered little assistance during the incident. The flydubai flight attendants were foreigners and provided almost no instructions to passengers as the plane began spinning out of control, the Shanis said.Ofir Shani told Channel 12 that the intercom didn’t seem to work. She said that the flight attendants at one point began walking down the aisles, trying to assure passengers that the flight was going to land in Tel Aviv, even though it wasn’t — an emergency landing was made in Tabuk.Ofir Shani also said that the flight attendants appeared no less panicked than the passengers as the incident unfolded. It was like “we were having very big turbulence, but there was no turbulence,” passenger Almog Italie told AFP, describing the sensation of losing thousands of feet of altitude in seconds as similar to riding a “rollercoaster.”But there was no “hysteria” among passengers, Italie noted, even as fighting erupted near the cockpit for control over the aircraft.“The other passengers from the front took over control,” he told AFP via video call from Tabuk.Still, Italie said, “people kept calm.”Also appearing on Channel 12, he said that passengers were being treated well by Saudi staff at Tabuk Airport.“They’re performing in the best way,” he said. “They’re taking care of us. At the moment, we’re relying on them.”“In Saudi Arabia, we trust!” he added with a smile, in English.Hours after the incident, the passengers in Saudi Arabia took off for a 45-minute flight with flydubai to Israel. Some passengers expressed discomfort with flying the same airline back to Israel, delaying the flight, a passenger told Channel 12.
