So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an
astonishment unto the (ARAB/MUSLIM) nations that are round about
thee,(ISRAEL) when I shall execute judgments in thee in anger and in
fury and in furious rebukes. I the LORD have spoken it.
16 When I

18 And another angel came out
from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to
him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and
gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully
ripe.
19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and
gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of
the wrath of God.
20 And the winepress was trodden without the

ISAIAH 66:15-18
15 For, behold,
the LORD will come with fire,(NUKES) and with his chariots like a

They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens

6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8
And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them;
they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed

9 Behold, the day of
the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For
the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their
light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall
not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for
their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the
arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the
terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13
Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of
her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his
fierce anger.
ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18
And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the
fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of
the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are
open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20
The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed
like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it;
and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass
in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that
are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they
shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and

message of love shall hate each other and kill one another."I saw the
angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I
saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood
all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many
of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction –
men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children
of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final
judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken
in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no
more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

IDF
has killed 500 terrorists in Lebanon since beginning of war, says
senior officer-Figure given by Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin higher than ToI
tally; military says Hezbollah hiding true number of fatalities among
its ranks-By Emanuel Fabian-and ToI Staff 26 July 2024, 6:17 pm
The
Israel Defense Forces have killed more than 500 terror operatives in
Lebanon in the past nine months of skirmishes, the chief of the
military’s Northern Command said Friday.“We have already eliminated more
than 500 terrorists in Lebanon, most of them from Hezbollah, and we
have destroyed thousands of infrastructures,” Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin told
troops of the Golani Brigade in northern Israel.Hezbollah has named 377
members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes,
mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. Another 68 operatives from
other terror groups in Lebanon have also been killed, bringing the tally
tracked by The Times of Israel to 445, a lower figure than the one
given by Gordin.Israeli defense officials estimate that this figure is
in fact higher, and Hezbollah is covering up the true number of
fatalities among its ranks. One Lebanese soldier and dozens of Lebanese
civilians have also been killed during the hostilities that began on
October 8.“Our backs are the residents, our backs are the citizens, and
our faces and our barrels are aimed at the enemy. When the moment comes
and we launch an attack, it will be a decisive attack,” Gordin
said.Gordin’s remarks followed comments made by an Israeli official
briefing reporters in Washington earlier Friday who said Israel will not
wait for the US to green-light any military activity it chooses to take
to push Hezbollah away from the Israel-Lebanon border. The official said
that the US knows Israel will not allow the situation on the northern
border — where Hezbollah forces have attacked Israeli communities and
military posts on a near daily basis — to remain as it is.Hezbollah says
it is attacking Israel to support Gaza amid the war against Hamas
there. So far, their attacks have resulted in the deaths of 12 civilians
in Israel, as well as the deaths of 18 IDF soldiers and reservists.
There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any
injuries.Israel is hoping that a solution can be reached through
diplomatic measures, the official stressed, but will not hesitate to
take military action if this proves to be impossible, the official
added. They also said Israel is not prepared to give up territory to
restore calm in the north.Only once it is deemed safe for the tens of
thousands of displaced people to return to their homes in northern
Israel will the threat posed by Hezbollah be considered resolved, the
official said.Hezbollah cell struck-A cell of Hezbollah operatives was
struck on Friday in southern Lebanon’s Markaba, the IDF said. Hezbollah
named two members killed in the strike. The military said the operatives
were spotted by troops of the 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit
entering a building used by the terror group, and a short while later, a
fighter jet carried out an airstrike.Separately, overnight, the IDF
said it struck another building used by Hezbollah in Ayta
ash-Shab.Meanwhile, one rocket launched from Lebanon at the Upper
Galilee was intercepted by air defenses, the IDF added. However an
anti-tank guided missile struck a factory in the border community of
Avivim, local authorities said. The Merom Hagalil Regional Council said
damage was caused to the factory in the attack. Hezbollah took
responsibility for the missile fire, saying it struck a building where
IDF troops were gathered.
WEEK OF DANIEL 9:27 WE KNOW ITS 7 YRS
The
King of Jerusalem[1] was the supreme ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem,
the Crusader state founded by Christian princes in 1099 when the First
Crusade took the city.Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler of the
Kingdom of Jerusalem, himself refused the title of king, and instead
chose the title "Defender of the Holy Sepulchre". Thus, the title of
king was only introduced for his successor, King Baldwin I in 1100. The
city of Jerusalem was lost in 1187, but the Kingdom of Jerusalem
survived (also known as the "Second Kingdom of Jerusalem"), moving its
capital to Acre in 1191. The city of Jerusalem was re-captured in the
Sixth Crusade, during 1229–39 and 1241–44. The Kingdom of Jerusalem was
finally dissolved with the fall of Acre and the end of the Crusades in
the Holy Land in 1291.After the Crusader States ceased to exist, the
title of King of Jerusalem was claimed by a number of European noble
houses descended from the kings of Cyprus or the kings of Naples. The
(purely ceremonial) title of King of Jerusalem is currently used by
Felipe VI of Spain. It was claimed by Otto von Habsburg as Habsburg
pretender, and by the kings of Italy until 1946.

DR SAMUEL DOCTORIANS VISION - SECOND ANGEL: MIDDLE EAST
Then
I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used
in harvesting. The second angel said: "Harvest time has come in Israel
and the countries all the way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few
split seconds."All of Turkey and those [inaudible] countries that have
refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill
one another."I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the
Middle East countries. I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of
Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full
of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear
weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere.
Sudden destruction – men destroying one another. I heard these
words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come." The angel said,
"The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of
God shall prepare the children of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The
angel said: "This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified,
protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water
shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men
will fight for water in those countries."The angel showed me that the
United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the
Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The angel with the
sickle shall reap the harvest.

It must end’: Australia, New Zealand,
Canada call for immediate Gaza ceasefire-Countries’ leaders say in joint
statement civilians can’t ‘be made to pay the price of defeating
Hamas,’ demand Israel ‘respond substantively’ to ICJ ruling on West Bank
presence-By Reuters and ToI Staff 26 July 2024, 4:40 pm
Australia,
New Zealand and Canada on Friday called for an immediate ceasefire in
Gaza and asked Israel to respond to a United Nations court that last
week ruled that the West Bank settlements and Israel’s military rule
there are illegal.“Israel must listen to the concerns of the
international community,” the leaders of the three countries said in a
joint statement.“The protection of civilians is paramount and a
requirement under international humanitarian law. Palestinian civilians
cannot be made to pay the price of defeating Hamas. It must end,” the
leaders said, adding that they “remain unequivocal in our condemnation
of Hamas.”The leaders also said Israel needed to hold extremist settlers
accountable for ongoing acts of violence against Palestinians, reverse
its settlement program in the West Bank, and work toward a two-state
solution.Israel’s Embassy in Australia on Thursday said it condemned
acts of violence against Palestinian communities.Last Friday, the
International Court of Justice (ICJ) said Israel’s occupation of
Palestinian territories and its settlements there are illegal and should
be withdrawn as soon as possible, its strongest findings to date on the
Israel-Palestinian conflict. The leaders of Australia, Canada and New
Zealand called on Israel to “respond substantively” to the July 19
ruling of the ICJ about the illegality of Israel’s military control over
the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. The Foreign Ministry
rejected the ICJ opinion as “fundamentally wrong” and one-sided, and
repeated its stance that a political settlement in the region can only
be reached by negotiations.Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza Strip and
East Jerusalem — areas the Palestinians now want for a state — from
Jordan and Egypt in the 1967 Six Day War.The United Nations and most of
the international community regard the areas as illegally occupied.
Israel rejects the argument, saying its settlements are on disputed
land.Ottawa’s, Canberra’s and Wellington’s joint statement, the second
since February, expressed concern about escalating violence with
Hezbollah on Israel’s border with Lebanon, and said the risk of a wider
regional war made a ceasefire in Gaza all the more urgent. The
Iran-backed terror group began shelling mostly evacuated communities in
northern Israel on October 8, a day after Hamas’s thousands-strong shock
assault on southern Israel that left nearly 1,200 people dead and saw
251 taken hostage, sparking the war in Gaza. The leaders’ statement came
hours after US Vice President Kamala Harris urged Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a Gaza ceasefire deal that would ease the
suffering of Palestinian civilians and free the remaining hostages,
striking a somewhat tougher tone than US President Joe Biden has.On
Thursday, Canberra announced sanctions on seven extremist settlers whom
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong accused of violent attacks on
Palestinians, including “beatings, sexual assault and torture of
Palestinians resulting in serious injury and in some cases, death.”
Hamas
said to reject proposal for hostage-ceasefire deal before receiving
it-Israeli official says terror group’s response ‘bizarre’ given that
plan not yet sent; Hamas reportedly objects to demands over Philadelphi
Corridor, return of Gazans to north Strip-By Agencies and ToI Staff 26
July 2024, 4:40 pm
The Hamas terror group preemptively rejected
the terms of an Israeli proposal for a hostage-ceasefire deal on
Thursday night, according to Reuters, in what a senior Israeli official
called “bizarre” messages, given that “nobody has read [the proposal]
yet.”A senior Israeli official said Hamas had not yet seen the latest
proposal, which was expected to go out “in the coming hours.”“We haven’t
sent it yet, nobody has read it yet. Even the negotiators haven’t got
it yet. They will read it before transferring it to Hamas for their
reaction,” said the official, presumably referring to the Arab
intermediaries facilitating the talks.Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu’s office, the White House, and Egypt’s foreign ministry did
not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.Families of
American-Israeli hostages who met with US President Joe Biden and
Netanyahu at the White House on Thursday said they were told Israel
would submit an updated deal proposal to Hamas within days. “The leaders
and their staff… are working as we speak to put together an updated
Israeli proposal that will be sent back to Hamas,” Jonathan Dekel-Chen,
whose son Sagui is held hostage, told The Times of Israel after their
meeting. “It is all within the framework of that three-stage proposed
deal that the President announced at the end of May.”Hamas reportedly
objected to an expected demand that Israel be allowed to screen
Palestinians returning to the north of the Gaza Strip after fleeing
south earlier in the war.Israel has agreed to allow civilians to return
home, but seeks a means to prevent Hamas fighters from returning with
them. Earlier this month, Netanyahu listed as a “nonnegotiable” that
“the return of thousands of armed terrorists to the northern Gaza Strip
will not be possible.”Israel and Hamas are in ongoing negotiations,
mediated by Qatar and Egypt and the US, for a potential ceasefire deal
that would see the release of 111 hostages still held in Gaza after they
were abducted from Israel during the October 7 attack, when thousands
of Hamas-led terrorists invaded southern Israel from Gaza, killing some
1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, starting the ongoing war between
Israel and the terror group. Dozens of the hostages still held are
presumed to be dead.Egyptian sources that spoke to Reuters also cited
the issue of Israeli military control over the Philadelphi Corridor, the
roughly 14-kilometer (9-mile) stretch separating Gaza from Egypt, as a
sticking point in negotiations.A senior Israeli official told The Times
of Israel this week that Cairo was privately moving toward allowing
Israeli troops to remain there, explaining, “They too don’t want Hamas
to resume smuggling on the border.”Israeli negotiators since May had
been discussing withdrawing from the corridor, with the US leading
trilateral discussions with Israel and Egypt about the creation of an
underground wall along the corridor and the installation of a
surveillance system to thwart any weapons smuggling into Gaza, US
officials have said. But seeking to capitalize off a boosted position on
the battlefield earlier this month, Netanyahu shifted course and
declared that the IDF remaining in Philadelphi was nonnegotiable,
alongside his demand that armed combatants not be able to return to
northern Gaza. The demand to remain in Philadelphi appeared to contradict
the framework approved in May, which envisioned Israel withdrawing from
the entirety of the Gaza Strip during the second of the deal’s three
six-week phases.A member of Israel’s negotiating team, along with an
Arab mediator, had expressed concern to The Times of Israel earlier this
month that the new demands from Netanyahu risked jeopardizing the
talks.US President Joe Biden publicly presented a framework for a deal
that would see a staged release of hostages in exchange for the release
of hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners and a ceasefire that,
initially temporary, would then become permanent in the second stage of
the deal.Jacob Magid contributed to this report.

international support for Israeli action in Lebanon-Hezbollah will pay
‘heavy price,’ PM vows after strike on Druze town kills 12
youngsters-Netanyahu says murder of Druze children won’t ‘pass in
silence’ as security officials meet to discuss best options; Gallant

Israel
will not let the murderous attack in Majdal Shams “pass in silence,”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Saturday afternoon, as senior
security officials held consultations in the wake of a deadly Hezbollah
rocket attack that left at least 12 young people dead in the northern
Druze town. The attack was the single deadliest Hezbollah attack since
the fighting on the Israel-Lebanon border began on October 8, Israel
Defense Forces spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said on Saturday
evening, and all the victims were aged between 10 and 20 years
old.Following the deadly strike, Netanyahu spoke to the spiritual leader
of Israel’s Druze community Sheikh Muafak Tarif, the Prime Minister’s
Office said, and vowed that Israel would not sit idly by.“Prime Minister
Netanyahu made clear that Israel will not allow the murderous attack to
simply pass on by, and that Hezbollah will pay a heavy price for this
that it has not paid until this point,” his office said. The prime
minister, who was still in the United States at the time of the attack
but cut short his trip by several hours and was expected to land back in
Israel early Sunday afternoon, repeated the sentiment in a video
message released shortly after.“Among the murdered were small children
who were playing soccer,” he said, “and others were also murdered. Our
hearts are all broken by these sights.”He pledged that Israel would “not
let this pass in silence,” and said the whole nation stood together
with the Druze community “in its difficult time, which is also our
difficult time.”Israel’s decision-making security cabinet was set to
convene on Sunday afternoon. In the immediate aftermath of the attack,
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was briefed by top military and security
officials on Israel’s options “for action against Hezbollah.”The meeting
was attended by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, Shin Bet head
Ronen Bar and Mossad chief David Barnea, among other officials. On X,
Gallant said he had spoken to Tarif “to share the heavy sorrow that
befell the Druze community and the entire Israeli nation.”He said that
in his call with the Druze spiritual leader, he had promised that Israel
“will strike the enemy hard.”Like Netanyahu, security officials have
vowed not to go easy on Hezbollah after the deadly attack, which was
carried out with an Iranian-made rocket, and have signaled that the
10-month-long deadly confrontation on the Israel-Lebanon border could
not be tolerated much longer.Visiting the scene of the attack on
Saturday night, Halevi told community leaders that the terror group,
which does not “distinguish between killing Druze or Jews,” would be met
with a “very, very significant response” from Israel. But when Israel
does retaliate, he warned, “Hezbollah may shoot more here, and caution
must be taken to follow the Home Front Command and Northern Command’s
instructions.“We want to deliver a hard blow to Hezbollah, without
having any more casualties here,” he added.Calls for Israel to respond
forcibly to Hezbollah were echoed across the political echelon as well,
with some going so far as to demand Israel launch a full-scale military
offensive against the Iran-backed terror group, even as an unnamed
Israeli security source told Sky News Arabic that Israel does not
“intend to spark a war.”Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Israel was
seeking international “support and legitimacy” to act against Hezbollah
after the terror group “crossed all red lines” in Saturday’s rocket
strike. The Foreign Ministry was preparing for an international campaign
that would work to “obtain support and legitimacy for Israeli action in
Lebanon, and to point the finger directly at Iran,” Katz said.Israel is
“approaching the moment of an all-out war against Hezbollah and
Lebanon,” he warned, pledging that the terror group’s leader Hassan
Nasrallah would be destroyed and that Lebanon would be severely
damaged.“This is not an army against an army,” Katz said of Hezbollah.
“It is an Iranian terrorist organization against civilians and
children.”Calling for the world to impose heavy sanctions on Hezbollah,
Katz said the group must be stopped “before it is too late.”Meanwhile,
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir accused the government of
having intentionally avoided “acknowledging that we are in a battle
against Hezbollah for ten months.”“Today, no one, in any forum,
including the defense minister who strived only to contain Hezbollah,
can avoid the bloody reality — we are at war,” the ultranationalist
minister said. “I call on the prime minister to immediately convene the
cabinet, [even] by encrypted phone, to make the decision that I have
been demanding for a long time – war in the north now!”MK Yitzhak
Kreuzer, of Ben Gvir’s far-right Otzma Yehudit party, echoed the call
for all-out war in a video filmed in Majdal Shams.“The blood of the
children of the Golan is not cheap,” he said, calling on the government
“to go to war, to destroy Hezbollah, to hit the state of Lebanon from
which came the rocket that hit here and caused this severe disaster.”The
call for Israel to retaliate in a meaningful way was echoed across the
political spectrum, albeit with fewer references to a desire to launch a
war in Lebanon. In an English-language statement on X, centrist National
Unity chairman Benny Gantz pledged that his party would provide “wide
support from outside the government for any determined and effective
response that will restore security to the citizens of the north.”The
former defense minister also visited Majdal Shams hours after the attack
and as the death toll continued to rise, to pay his condolences to the
Druze community leaders. He was accompanied by National Unity MK Michael
Biton, former MK and Druze politician Mufid Mari, and Golan Regional
Council head Uri Kellner.Reiterating the commitments he laid out in his
social media post, Gantz told Mayor Dolan Abu Saleh that the situation
in northern Israel had “gone on for too long,” and pledged that he would
do everything possible to allow for residents of northern Israel to
feel safe in their own homes once more.Knesset whip Ofir Katz of Likud
said too that “a difficult and painful response is required” while Labor
MK Merav Michaeli wrote on social media that “whoever launched these
rockets must pay a heavy price.”Right-wing New Hope MK Mishel Buskila
took a more blunt approach, and called on the government to “tear apart
Beirut” in the wake of the attack.
DC official fears all-out war
as US condemns ‘horrific’ rocket attack on Majdal Shams-After Hezbollah
hit kills 12 people aged 10-20 at a soccer field in Druze village, EU
foreign policy chief calls for int’l probe of ‘bloodbath’; Beirut urges
end to hostilities-By Agencies and ToI Staff Today, 2:24 am
The
United States condemned a rocket attack Saturday on a soccer field in
the Golan Heights that killed a dozen people, mostly children and teens,
calling the strike “horrific.”A Biden administration official expressed
concern that the deadly Hezbollah strike could spark an all-out war
between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group. “What happened today
could be the trigger we have been worried about and tried to avoid for
10 months,” the official told Axios. It was the single deadliest
Hezbollah attack on northern Israel since fighting there began in
October. The European Union called for an international probe of the
“bloodbath” in the northern Druze town of Majdal Shams. The US, which has
been leading diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating the conflict
across the Lebanese-Israeli border, denounced the attack and said US
support for Israel’s security was “iron-clad and unwavering against all
Iranian-backed terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah.”The US
“will continue to support efforts to end these terrible attacks along
the Blue Line, which must be a top priority,” the spokesperson for the
White House National Security Council said in a statement. The Blue Line
refers to the frontier between Lebanon and Israel.European Union
foreign policy chief Josep Borrell described “shocking images from the
soccer field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams.”“I strongly condemn this
bloodbath. We need an independent international investigation into this
unacceptable incident. We urge all parties to exercise utmost restraint
and avoid further escalation,” Borrell said in a post on X, formerly
Twitter.Lebanon’s government, in a statement that didn’t mention Majdal
Shams, urged an “immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts” and
condemned all attacks on civilians.Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson for the
UNIFIL peacekeeping force which operates in southern Lebanon, told
Reuters its force commander was in contact with authorities in both
Lebanon and Israel “to understand the details of the Majdal Shams
incident and to maintain calm.”The United Nations special coordinator
for Lebanon and the head of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon urged
maximum restraint.Hezbollah initially claimed responsibility for
launching a barrage of Katyusha rockets and a single heavy Falaq rocket
at a nearby military base.As news emerged of the heavy rocket hitting
the Druze town, and the deadly outcome of the strike, the terror group
issued a statement claiming that it had “absolutely nothing to do with
the incident.”But IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari, in a press conference
from the scene, identified the rocket as an Iranian-made Falaq-1. “A
Falaq-1 rocket struck here in the soccer field, it is an Iranian rocket,
manufactured in Iran, a rocket with a warhead of over 50 kilograms of
explosives,” he said.“The forensic findings at the scene point to this
rocket. Falaq-1 is only in use by the Hezbollah terror group, which
carried out this attack from Chebaa,” Hagari added. The IDF said it had
determined that the rocket was launched by the terror group from an area
just north of the Lebanese village of Chebaa. The shocking attack led to
swift promises of retaliation and talk of an unprecedented response
among Israeli officials as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hurried
home from the US, raising the specter of a fresh escalation and a
potential full-blown war between Israel and the Lebanese terror group. It
was the single deadliest attack on northern Israel since the Lebanese
terror group Hezbollah began hostilities late last year.Since October 8,
Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military
posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it
is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there that opened with
Palestinian terror group Hamas’s devastating cross-border attack on
Israel. So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 24 civilian deaths on the
Israeli side — including in Saturday’s attack — as well as the deaths
of 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks
from Syria, without any injuries.Hezbollah has named 381 members who
have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in
Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 68 operatives from
other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have
been killed.
Protesters demanding hostage deal, elections stand
in silence for Majdal Shams victims-In Jerusalem, demonstrators march in
a hush, say government should should similarly wallow in silence for
its failures; protest expected at airport when PM returns from US By
Canaan Lidor,Charlie Summers and ToI Staff Today, 1:05 am-JULY 27,24
Thousands
of attendees at weekly rallies demanding the release of Gaza hostages
and new elections observed a moment of silence Saturday night to honor
the victims of Hezbollah’s deadly rocket attack on the Druze town of
Majdal Shams in the Golan that killed 12 people, most of them kids and
teens.Speaking at a protest on Tel Aviv’s Kaplan Street, former prime
minister Ehud Barak reiterated his call for “widespread civil revolt,
nonviolent civil disobedience — including shutting down the country” to
bring down the government. On Wednesday, the Israel Defense Force
recovered the bodies of five hostages from Gaza. Two of their relatives
spoke at the Hostages Square rally on Saturday.“If we stop sanctifying
the lives of all people, we will very quickly lose the ability to live
here,” said Gal Goren, son of slain hostage Mia Goren. “But we will fix
this. We will demand that all those responsible are brought to
account.“If we don’t bring back the living [hostages] for rehabilitation
and bury the last of the slain, Israeli society will collapse from
within,” he added.Maya Ahimas, sister of Staff Sgt. Tomer Ahimas, who
was killed defending Kibbutz Nirim and whose body was also returned this
week, addressed the other families.“I’m sorry your loved ones are still
not here — it hurts so much,” she said. “Perhaps we are able to breathe
again after Tomer’s return, but I can’t breathe deep: It’s
unconscionable that there are another 115 hostages, citizens of Israel,
who are still in the hands of Hamas, and the world is silent.”“Our
country has no right to exist without them,” she added. At a press
conference ahead of the protests, some relatives of hostages accused
Netanyahu of derailing ceasefire-for-hostages talks with his latest
proposal to the terror group, which reportedly included various new
demands deemed unrealistic by other top officials. The Tel Aviv
anti-government demonstration was held in parallel to the rally of
captives’ relatives at nearby Hostages Square. Additional
anti-government protests were held in Jerusalem, Haifa, Karmiel, Rehovot
and the Amiad Junction in the Galilee. Demonstrators also protested
outside Netanyahu’s homes in Caesarea and Jerusalem.Hundreds of
protesters in Jerusalem, marching to Netanyahu’s official residence,
refrained from chanting slogans in light of the day’s tragic events,
saying the government should similarly wallow in silence and shame for
its failures.“This government has the privilege to do one thing and one
thing only, to rescue the hostages and go home in silence… We deserve a
government that cares for everyone, Jews and Arabs,” said Tomer Lev, an
activist leading the march.“We will walk in complete silence to show
this government exactly what they need to do,” he added.Prominent
liberal rabbi Benny Lau also spoke at the protest.“The horrific picture
of the dead children in Majdal Shams woke us up to the understanding
that we are in a difficult war, with an enemy who really wants to
destroy us,” he said. “But for the heart of this nation to be whole in
this war, we need to return the hostages now.”Haaretz reported some
clashes at the end of the Tel Aviv rally, with police violently
dispersing some protesters and detaining at least one.Netanyahu, who has
been in the United States since Monday, moved up his return to Israel
by several hours after the rocket attack in Majdal Shams. The premier
was expected to be met by protesters when he arrives at Ben Gurion
Airport on Sunday, around noon.Earlier Saturday, Israel relayed to the
US a new proposal in the talks. The proposal was said to include
Netanyahu’s latest demands that Israeli and Palestinian officials said
were a non-starter.“There is a deal on the table, and Netanyahu is
assassinating it,” said Einav Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan
Zangauker, in a statement preceding the rallies in Tel Aviv. “Today, he
conveyed a deal [proposal] that continues the foot-dragging, which the
security establishment has already warned would lead to a crisis in the
talks.”Netanyahu had disappointed hostages’ families in his speech to
the US Congress on Wednesday, in which the premier failed to commit to a
deal.Speaking in Tel Aviv, Barak said: “A steady baritone and perfect
English are no substitute for a total lack of courage, personality,
integrity and action rather than words. Netanyahu has none of these
things.”Feminist group Women in Pink held posters at the rally reading:
“A good speech won’t save them, a deal would.”Tens of thousands of
Israelis have flocked weekly to the Kaplan Street rallies since early
2023, to protest the government’s planned judicial overhaul. The
demonstrations stopped for several months after October 7, but have
again picked up steam over the government’s alleged failures in
preventing the attacks and in the prosecution of the war effort.
Netanyahu
moves up flight from DC after deadly Hezbollah rocket strike-PM
initially faced criticism for delay in changing flight schedule;
security cabinet to meet Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.-By Lazar
Berman-Today, 12:38 am-JULY 27,24
Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu ordered his return flight from Washington to be moved up in
the wake of Saturday’s deadly strike on the Druze town of Majdal Shams
in the northern Golan Heights.Netanyahu was initially slated to depart
after a high-profile visit to the US capital and to Florida at 11 p.m.
(6 a.m. Israel time), but was now scheduled to take off instead of 6
p.m. local time (1 a.m. Israel time). He was expected to land back in
Israel around midday on Sunday, amid growing calls for a major military
operation against Hezbollah in Lebanon.Netanyahu had faced criticism
from opposition figures and in the media after his office initially
dithered on whether he would change his flight plans.“Prime Minister
Netanyahu should be in Israel at such times and take part in the
management of the war,” said Opposition Leader Yair Lapid in a
statement. “The fact that he has not yet decided on returning to Israel
is another shameful proof of his complete detachment and above all that
he does not care about anything but himself.”An unnamed senior cabinet
official told Channel 12 Netanyahu’s failure to immediately move up the
flight exhibited “the height of disconnect.”Netanyahu’s office rejected
the criticism. “The prime minister made the decision to move his return
up as soon as the terrible disaster in Majdal Shams became known, and
even informed the defense minister about it before the false criticism
was heard in the media,” his office asserted.“The prime minister will
assemble the security cabinet immediately upon his return to
Israel.”Twelve children and youths, all aged 10-20, were killed and 30
more people were injured in the rocket attack on a soccer field on
Saturday afternoon. Israel placed the blame squarely on Hezbollah. It was
the single deadliest Hezbollah attack on northern Israel since fighting
there began in October. The security cabinet was slated to meet at 4
p.m. on Sunday at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, as Israeli officials
signaled the response would be unprecedented.Netanyahu was in Washington
to meet US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the
White House, to address a joint session of Congress, and to meet GOP
presidential candidate Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm
Springs, Florida. The IDF said it had determined that the rocket was
launched by the terror group from an area just north of the Lebanese
village of Chebaa.Israel Defense Forces Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel
Hagari said in a press conference at the scene on Saturday night that,
according to an initial probe, rocket sirens sounded in the town “but
this is an immediate alert — too short.”“From the… probe, it has emerged
that a single rocket” struck the soccer field in Majdal Shams, Hagari
stated, adding that the military was further investigating. He
identified the rocket that struck Majdal Shams as an Iranian-made
Falaq-1.“Our intelligence is clear, Hezbollah is responsible for the
murder of innocent children. The attack came after the IDF on Saturday
afternoon struck a cell of Hezbollah gunmen at a weapons depot in
southern Lebanon’s Kafr Kila. Hezbollah later confirmed that four of its
operatives, members of the terror group’s elite Nukhba force, were
killed in the strike.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked
Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily
basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the
war there.Emanuel Fabian contributed to this report.

attack-As Smotrich says ‘Nasrallah should pay with his head’ and Ben
Gvir demands ‘war in the north now,’ opposition leaders also call for an
aggressive reaction to deadly strike By Sam Sokol-Today, 12:28 am-JUL

Politicians from coalition and opposition were unanimous
Saturday in their demand for a fierce Israeli response to a Hezbollah
rocket attack that killed 11 people in the northern Druze town of Majdal
Shams, most of them children and teens. The strike was the single
deadliest Hezbollah attack on northern Israel since fighting there began
in October.Far-right ministers were the most belligerent in their
reactions.“For the deaths of little children, [Hezbollah chief Hassan]
Nasrallah should pay with his head,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich
tweeted,” asserting that it was “time for action” and that “Lebanon as a
whole has to pay the price.”National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir
said that “since October 8th I have said that we are in a state of war
in the north and the enemy needs to be defeated,” but Israeli
decision-makers “avoided acknowledging that we are in a battle against
Hezbollah for 10 months.” He called for “war in the north now!”Since
October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and
military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group
saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there.Culture and
Sport Minister Miki Zohar demanded that Israel “stop procrastinating and
deal a fatal blow to Hezbollah,” arguing that “the more we postpone the
campaign, the more painful will be the prices we pay.”Members of the
opposition also came out strongly in favor of retaliation against
Hezbollah, with New Hope MK Michel Buskila demanding that Jerusalem
“tear Beirut apart” and Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman
declaring that Nasrallah must “pay the price” for his actions. In an
English-language post on X, National Unity party chairman and former war
cabinet member Benny Gantz, who resigned from Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu’s coalition in June, pledged “wide support from outside the
government for any determined and effective response that will restore
security to the citizens of the north.”On the 7th of October Hamas'
massacring of children and kidnapping of innocent civilians did not
discriminate between race, religion or ethnicity. All were guilty of the
high crime of being Israeli. As innocent Israeli children in the Druze
village of Majdal Shams were murdered — בני גנץ – Benny Gantz (@gantzbe)
July 27, 2024In a statement, Opposition Leader Yair Lapid demanded that
the government “put an end to abandonment of the north.”Insisting that
events “cannot go on like this,” the Yesh Atid chairman accused the
prime minister of shirking his responsibilities, stating that “the fact
that he has not yet decided on returning to Israel [from the US] is
another shameful proof of his complete detachment and above all that he
does not care about anything but himself.”Netanyahu initially dithered
on whether he would move up his flight back from Washington, but
eventually announced he would be heading out a few hours earlier than
planned. He was expected to land around noon Sunday. In a statement, his
office argued he had “made the decision to move his return up as soon
as the terrible disaster in Majdal Shams became known.”MK Merav
Michaeli, of the left-wing Labor, also insisted that “whoever launched
these rockets must pay a heavy price.”Asked if that meant Michaeli was
calling for war in Lebanon, a spokesman for the former party chief said
that she was calling for “a harsh but calculated response, which will
not lead to escalation.”As Foreign Minister Israel Katz said he was
preparing for an international campaign “to obtain support and
legitimacy for Israeli action in Lebanon,” President Isaac Herzog called
on the international community not “to sit in silence in the face of
Nasrallah’s terror attacks, which come at the behest of the Iranian
empire of evil.”Katz told the Times of Israel that Israel is
“approaching the moment of an all-out war against Hezbollah and
Lebanon.” He said Nasrallah would be destroyed along with his
organization if such a war were to erupt, and warned that Lebanon would
be severely damaged. The Defense Ministry said on Saturday night that top
military and security officials had presented Defense Minister Yoav
Gallant with “options for action against Hezbollah” and that “Gallant
determined the courses of action and instructed the defense
establishment accordingly.” It did not elaborate. In the wake of Saturday
evening’s attack, coalition whip Ofir Katz of Likud announced that all
nonessential bills would be removed from the Knesset agenda for Sunday,
the final day of the summer legislative session.“Following Hezbollah’s
shocking massacre of the children of Majdal Shams, it was decided that
only urgent government bills will be on the Knesset’s agenda tomorrow.
Our hearts are with the residents and the entire Druze community,” he
stated.According to the public broadcaster Kan, one of the bills dropped
from the agenda is a controversial Shas-backed proposal that seeks to
grant the religious services minister the power to allocate additional
funds to local religious councils around the country. Voting on the bill
was already postponed more than once due to coalition infighting. The
coalition intends to try and pass the bill during the recess, the report
said.MK Yair Golan, head of the Labor-Meretz union The Democrats, said
the Knesset recess must be canceled. “It’s inconceivable that tomorrow, a
day of near-war in the north, of unimaginable burials, of war in Gaza,
115 hostages in Hamas’s hands, tens of thousands of displaced in the
north and south, the Knesset will simply go on vacation.”Emanuel Fabian

Deadliest Hezbollah
attack since October-12 killed, all aged 10-20, as Hezbollah rocket hits
soccer field, sparking wider war fears-Iranian-made rocket fired from
Lebanon hits Golan Druze town Majdal Shams; Israel dismisses Hezbollah
denial; dozens more wounded; officials signal response could be
unprecedented By Emanuel Fabian-and ToI Staff 27 July 2024, 10:40 pm
At
least 12 people were killed Saturday, mostly children and teens, and
dozens more were wounded when a rocket fired from Lebanon hit a soccer
field in the northern Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights.
It was the single deadliest Hezbollah attack on northern Israel since
fighting there began in October.Residents and first responders described
scenes of bloody carnage on the pitch. Though a warning siren had
sounded, it was too short an alert for the victims, who were unable to
flee in time. The IDF said late Saturday that all 12 fatalities were
aged 10-20.The shocking attack led to swift promises of retaliation and
talk of an unprecedented response among Israeli officials as Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hurried home from the US, raising the
specter of a fresh escalation and a potential full-blown war between
Israel and the Lebanese terror group.A Biden administration official
expressed concern that the deadly Hezbollah strike could spark an
all-out war between Israel and the Iran-backed terror group. “What
happened today could be the trigger we have been worried about and tried
to avoid for 10 months,” the official told Axios.Politicians from
across the spectrum expressed outrage at the attack and criticized the
government’s failure to bring security to the north after long months of
fighting, while demanding decisive action against Hezbollah.Israel
Defense Forces Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said in a press
conference on Saturday night that all the victims were aged 10 to
20.Photographs and video from the scene immediately after the rocket
strike showed people scrambling to help the casualties and parents
searching desperately for their children.— Sheren Falah Saab شيرين فلاح
صعب (@FalahSaab) July 27, 2024-Baruch Padeh Medical Center near Tiberias
said four people in serious condition were brought to the hospital. Ziv
Medical Center in Safed said it admitted 32 wounded, including six
being treated in the trauma ward, 13 in moderate-to-serious condition,
and 10 who were lightly hurt. Another four casualties were taken to
Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.Medics declared 10 of the victims dead at
the scene, while two were declared dead at hospitals, officials
said.“We witnessed great destruction when we arrived at the soccer
field, as well as items that were on fire. There were casualties on the
grass and the scene was gruesome,” said Idan Avshalom, a medic with the
Magen David Adom ambulance service.Hezbollah initially claimed
responsibility for launching a barrage of Katyusha rockets and a single
heavy Falaq rocket at a nearby military base.As news emerged of the
heavy rocket hitting the Druze town, and the deadly outcome of the
strike, the terror group issued a statement that it had “absolutely
nothing to do with the incident.”The army rejected that assertion,
saying the attack “was carried out by the Hezbollah terror group” while
citing “assessments carried out by the IDF and reliable intelligence
information available to us.”The IDF said it had determined that the
rocket was launched by the terror group from an area just north of the
Lebanese village of Chebaa.Hagari in a press conference from the scene
identified the rocket that struck Majdal Shams as an Iranian-made
Falaq-1.“A Falaq-1 rocket struck here in the soccer field, it is an
Iranian rocket, manufactured in Iran, a rocket with a warhead of over 50
kilograms of explosives,” he said.“The forensic findings at the scene
point to this rocket. Falaq-1 is only in use by the Hezbollah terror
group, which carried out this attack from Chebaa,” Hagari addedCol.
Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman, revealed the name
of the Hezbollah commander who directed the deadly rocket attack. He said
the attack was directed by Ali Muhammad Yahya, who is the commander of a
rocket launching site in the Chebaa area.“Despite its attempts to deny:
Hezbollah is responsible for the massacre in Majdal Shams and the
killing of children and boys on the soccer field,” Adraee added.Earlier,
Hagari said that according to an initial probe, rocket sirens sounded
in the town “but this is an immediate alert — too short.”“In the past
hour, Hezbollah has been lying and denying responsibility for the
incident,” Hagari said. “Our intelligence is clear, Hezbollah is
responsible for the murder of innocent children.“We share in the grief
of the families and embrace the Druze community in its difficult time,”
he added. “Once again the brutality of Hezbollah as a terrorist
organization is exposed. This is a very grave incident and we will act
accordingly.”Israeli officials signaled the military response to the
Hezbollah rocket attack would likely be a very aggressive one.Top
military and security officials presented Defense Minister Yoav Gallant
with “options for action against Hezbollah” in response to the deadly
attack, his office said.“Gallant determined the courses of action and
instructed the defense establishment accordingly,” the Defense Ministry
said in a statement. The minister had held an assessment with IDF Chief
of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, head of the Shin Bet Ronen Bar, head of
the Mossad David Barnea, and other officials.Channel 12 cited a senior
Israeli official in the prime minister’s delegation to Washington as
saying: “The events in the north will bring about a dramatic turning
point in fighting in the area.”Kan news cited an unnamed senior official
as saying “The disaster at Majdal Shams could signal a change of
direction in the war.” A security official told the public broadcaster:
“This is an incident that we will not gloss over. There will be a severe
response.”Netanyahu, who was still in the US on Saturday after his
speech to Congress and meetings with top American officials, moved up
his flight back to Israel by several hours following the attack. The
attack came after the IDF on Saturday afternoon struck a cell of
Hezbollah gunmen at a weapons depot in southern Lebanon’s Kafr Kila. The
military said the operatives were identified by troops of the 869th
Combat Intelligence Collection Unit entering the weapons depot, and a
short while later, an airstrike was carried out.Hezbollah later
confirmed that four of its operatives, members of the terror group’s
elite Nukhba force, were killed in the strike.Rocket fire from Hezbollah
toward northern Israel was ongoing throughout Saturday, with one
damaging a home in the border community of Arab al-Arashme in the
morning. No injuries were reported in that attack.Meanwhile, a Hezbollah
drone apparently heading toward offshore gas infrastructure in Israel’s
territorial waters on Saturday morning was shot down by the
ship-mounted Iron Dome system, known as C-Dome.According to the IDF, one
of the Navy’s Sa’ar 6-class corvettes intercepted the drone at a
significant distance from the Karish gas field, and there was no threat
to the offshore infrastructure in the incident. The IDF said it was
still investigating if the drone was laden with explosives or used by
Hezbollah for surveillance.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have
attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a
near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza
amid the war there. So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 24 civilian
deaths on the Israeli side — including in Saturday’s attack — as well as
the deaths of 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been
several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.Hezbollah has named 381
members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes,
mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 68
operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of
civilians have been killed.
Israel submits latest Gaza proposal
to US, but officials warn PM’s new demands won’t fly-Some officials say
fresh clauses could be ‘a death blow to negotiations’; Israeli
delegation set to depart for Rome Sunday-By ToI Staff 27 July 2024,
10:19 pm
Israel relayed a new proposal for a hostage release deal
with Hamas to the White House on Saturday. But sources cited by Hebrew
media said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s latest demands could
thwart the negotiations.According to Channel 12 news, the proposal
demands an inspection mechanism be put in place to ensure combatants are
not able to move to the Strip’s north; sees Israel remaining on the
Gaza-Egypt border during the first phase of the deal; and insists on
Israel receiving a list of all living hostages Hamas will release as
part of the deal. The report quoted a top Israeli official as expressing
doubt that the proposal would even make it past the Arab mediators.
“It’s doubtful they will pass the proposal on to Hamas given the
substantive change to it,” said the official.Walla news also cited
unnamed officials in the Israeli negotiating team and in the security
establishment as saying Hamas was unlikely to agree to the new demands
and that this could lead to a crisis in talks. An official in the Israeli
negotiating team was quoted by Haaretz as saying that the demand for an
inspection mechanism to prevent the return of gunmen to the north was
“a death blow to the negotiations.”“The security establishment will be
able to deal with the security challenges without the mechanism,” said
the source, adding that Netanyahu was “thoughtlessly risking hostages’
lives.”The new offer came as Mossad chief David Barnea was set to meet
in Rome Sunday with the talks’ mediators — CIA chief William Burns,
Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel and Qatari Prime Minister
Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.An unidentified Palestinian official
told Kan news that the Israeli offer was designed to “create roadblocks
in the talks,” and was effectively Israel’s way of saying no without
saying no.A senior Palestinian official quoted in the
Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen news outlet Saturday indicated that
Hamas considers any new proposal dead on arrival.Meanwhile, Einav
Zangauker, mother of hostage Matan Zanguaker and a prominent activist
for the hostages’ release, accused Netanyahu on Saturday of impeding
progress toward a deal with the latest offer.“There is a deal on the
table, and Netanyahu is assassinating it,” she said at a weekly
demonstration outside IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv. “Today, he conveyed a
deal [proposal] that continues the foot-dragging, which the security
establishment has already warned would lead to a crisis in the
talks.”Israel’s new conditions track with three of the “non-negotiables”
Netanyahu listed in a July 7 statement: maximizing the number of living
hostages to be released, preventing the return of gunmen northward, and
stopping Hamas’s arms smuggling from Egypt.Channel 12 reported on
Wednesday that Netanyahu was trying to secure a signed, written
commitment from US President Joe Biden that the US would uphold Israel’s
right to resume fighting until its war aims are reached — the fourth of
Netanyahu’s “non-negotiables.”Israel’s latest offer was relayed to the
White House as Netanyahu was wrapping up a visit to the US, where he has
been since Monday.Biden and Netanyahu met with American hostages’
relatives on Thursday. At the meeting, the US president said: “I am
telling you as a Biden that I am all in, and I am going to do all within
my power to make it happen.”Jonathan Dekel-Chen, father of hostage
Sagui Dekel-Chen, said after the meeting that “we feel probably more
optimistic than we have since the first round of releases in late
November.”The talks have failed to secure a truce in Gaza and release of
hostages there since the weeklong ceasefire in November, which saw
Hamas release 105 captives in return for 240 Palestinian prisoners. The
current round of talks is based on Israel’s May 27 proposal, outlined by
Biden in a May 31 speech. It is believed that 111 of the 251 hostages
abducted by Hamas during the October 7 attack remain in Gaza, including
the bodies of 39 confirmed dead by the Israel Defense Force. The shock
assault saw thousands of Hamas-led terrorists storm southern Israel to
kill nearly 1,200 people, sparking the war in Gaza. The Hamas-run Gaza
health ministry says more than 39,000 people in the Strip have been
killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far, though the toll
cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and
fighters. Israel says it has killed some 15,000 combatants in battle and
some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel during the October 7 attack.
UNESCO
puts monastery in Gaza, one of Middle East’s oldest, on endangered site

destruction amid ongoing war between Israel and Hamas-By AFP and ToI

The Saint Hilarion complex, one of
the oldest monasteries in the Middle East, has been put on the UNESCO
list of World Heritage sites in danger due to the war in Gaza, the body
said Friday.UNESCO said the site, which dates back to the fourth
century, had been put on the endangered list at the demand of
Palestinian authorities and cited the “imminent threats” it faced.“It’s
the only recourse to protect the site from destruction in the current
context,” Lazare Eloundou Assomo, director of the UNESCO World Heritage
Center, told AFP, referring to the ongoing war, sparked by Hamas’s
October 7 attack on Israel. In December, the UNESCO Committee for the
Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict decided
to grant the site “provisional enhanced protection” — the highest level
of immunity established by the 1954 Hague Convention.UNESCO said then
that it was “already concerned about the state of conservation of sites,
before October 7, due to the lack of adequate policies to protect
heritage and culture” in Gaza.During Hamas’s attack on October 7,
terrorists murdered some 1,200 people in Israel, most of them civilians,
and took 251 hostages. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than
39,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the
fighting so far, though the toll cannot be verified and does not
differentiate between civilians and fighters. Israel says it has killed
more than 15,000 combatants in battle and some 1,000 terrorists inside
Israel during the October 7 attack.
After meeting PM, Trump says
Jews who vote Harris ‘should have their head examined’GOP nominee writes
VP’s sit-down with Netanyahu was ‘terrible’ and ‘insulting,’ repeats
claim she’s an antisemite; says likely Democrat nominee’s ‘ineptness’
will prolong Gaza war-By ToI Staff 27 July 2024, 7:34 pm
Republican
presidential nominee Donald Trump said Saturday that Jews who support
presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris or the Democratic Party
should “have their head examined,” after the United States vice
president’s “terrible and insulting” meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu on
Thursday and her absence from the prime minister’s speech to Congress on
Wednesday.Trump also wrote on his social media platform that Harris’s
“ineptness” would “greatly prolong” the war in Gaza and prevent the
release of hostages Hamas is holding there. The word “insulting” was put
in quotation marks. It was unclear whom Trump was quoting, if at
all.Trump has a history of accusing Jewish Democrats of betraying their
religion and Israel. In April, when Joe Biden was still the presumptive
Democratic nominee, Trump had also said that Jewish Biden voters “should
have their head examined.”Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has been in
the US since Monday. On Friday, he met with Trump in Florida. The
meeting appeared to be part of Netanyahu’s reported bid to mend fences
with the Republican candidate, whom Netanyahu hadn’t met since Trump’s
presidency ended.Netanyahu met separately with Harris and Biden at the
White House on Thursday. After meeting the prime minister, Harris said
she would “not be silent” over Palestinian civilians’ suffering in
Gaza. Her speech drew an Israeli complaint that Harris’s highlighting the
“dire humanitarian crisis” in the Strip and the need to “end the war”
there could toughen Hamas’s stance in negotiations to secure a ceasefire
in Gaza and the release of hostages held by the terror group. After
meeting Netanyahu on Friday, Trump wrote that Harris is part of the
administration “that embarrassed us in AFGHANISTAN” and was now “telling
Israel not to fight any longer with Hamas.”Trump said Harris had
“refused to preside over Congress during [Netanyahu’s] speech, which is
an obligation of the [vice president].”“Rarely has such a thing
happened,” wrote Trump. The US vice president, who is president of the US
Senate, traditionally sits at the chamber’s rostrum during foreign
leaders’ addresses. Citing a scheduling conflict, Harris declined to do
so at Netanyahu’s speech to Congress on Wednesday, which was boycotted
by nearly 70 Democratic lawmakers.“Any Jewish person who votes for
Kamala, or a Democrat, should immediately have their head examined.
Likewise Catholics, who are being persecuted by this Administration,
should not be voting for radical left Kamala,” Trump wrote.Later on
Friday, Trump said at a religious convention in southern Florida that
Harris, whose husband and stepchildren are Jewish, had skipped
Netanyahu’s Wednesday address due to antisemitism.“She doesn’t like
Jewish people. She doesn’t like Israel,” said Trump. “That’s the way it
is, and that’s the way it’s always going to be. She’s not going to
change.”The remark — coupled with his claim that Harris “is totally
against the Jewish people” in North Carolina on Wednesday — marked an
escalation in Trump’s incendiary rhetoric, days after his campaign said
an attempt on his life had given him a focus on unity.Harris has all but
secured the Democratic Party’s nomination for president after Biden,
81, decided not to seek reelection amid intense concern over his age and
mental acuity. It is believed that 111 of the 251 hostages abducted by
Hamas during the October 7 attack remain in Gaza, including the bodies
of 39 confirmed dead by the IDF. The shock assault saw thousands of
Hamas-led terrorists storm southern Israel to kill nearly 1,200 people,
sparking the war in Gaza.Polls have shown Harris running neck-and-neck
with Trump, who had solidly led Biden since the US president’s halting
debate performance on June 27.Analysts say Harris’s ascent has caught
the Trump campaign unprepared and that Trump is workshopping lines of
attack on her at his rallies. On Wednesday, the editorial board of the
Wall Street Journal — whose owner, Rupert Murdoch, is a leading
supporter of Trump — warned Republicans against attacking Harris for her
race and for not being a biological motherThe editorial came as 2021
remarks by Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, resurfaced, in
which Vance said “childless cat ladies,” including Harris, were bent on
making the rest of the country as “miserable” as they were. The comment
generated a torrent of negative press for the Trump-Vance campaign as it
scrambles to regain momentum in the face of a re-energized Democratic
party.AFP contributed to this report.
French rail traffic to
return to normal Monday, minister says after sabotage-Authorities say
they still do not know who was behind attacks, but suspect leftists or
environmental activists; Israel has claimed Iran proxies behind
targeting Olympic host-By Reuters 27 July 2024, 3:18 pm
PARIS —
Traffic on France’s high-speed rail network should be back to normal by
Monday, French Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete said after sabotaged
signal stations and cables caused travel chaos on Friday, the opening
day of the Olympic Games.French rail operator SNCF reiterated that
transport plans for teams competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics would be
guaranteed.Friday’s pre-dawn attacks on the high-speed rail network
damaged infrastructure along the lines connecting Paris with cities such
as Lille in the north, Bordeaux in the west and Strasbourg in the east.
Another attack on the Paris-Marseille line was foiled, SNCF has
said. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.Foreign
Minister Israel Katz asserted on X on Friday that the fires were
“planned and executed under the influence of Iran’s axis of evil,” but
he did not provide any evidence for the claim besides a previous warning
he has made of such a plot.Speaking to reporters at Paris’ Montparnasse
train station, Vergriete and SNCF chief Jean-Pierre Farandou said train
services would continue to experience disruption throughout the weekend
as they gradually return to normal. On Friday, 100,000 people could not
take their trains, and another 150,000 faced delays but eventually got
to their destinations, Vergriete said.“There will still be disruptions
tomorrow,” Vergriete told reporters. “From Monday, there is no need to
worry.”Farandou confirmed this, adding that investigations were ongoing
and they did not yet know who was behind the attack.SNCF said in a
statement that traffic would remain disrupted on Sunday on the North
axis but should improve on the Atlantic axis for weekend returns.“On the
Eastern high-speed line, traffic resumed normally this morning at 6:30
a.m. (0530 GMT) while on the North, Brittany and South-West high-speed
lines, 7 out of 10 trains on average will run with delays of 1 to 2
hours,” it said. Two security sources have said the modus operandi meant
initial suspicions fell on leftist militants or environmental activists,
but they said there was not yet any evidence.French Prime Minister
Gabriel Attal on Friday said it was too early to say who could be behind
the sabotage.“What we know, what we see, is that this operation was
prepared, coordinated, that nerve centers were targeted, which shows a
certain knowledge of the network to know where to strike,” he said.Times

Putin, Assad meet in Moscow, discuss Middle East 'escalation'-by Doug Cunningham.
Washington
DC (UPI) Jul 25, 2024-Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Syrian
President Bashar al-Assad in Moscow, according to a Thursday morning
Kremlin announcement.Putin told Assad he wanted the Syrian leader's
opinion on the situation in the Middle East."Unfortunately, there is a
tendency towards escalation, we can see that," Putin said. "This also
applied directly to Syria."Assad told Putin, "Considering all the events
that are taking place in the world as a whole and in the Eurasian
region today, our meeting seems very important to discuss all the
details of the development of these events, to discuss possible
prospects and scenarios."Russia came to Assad's aid militarily when
Syrian rebels revolted in a civil war against Assad's authoritarian
regime. With the Russian military force, Assad was able to regain
control of Syria.Assad said the Moscow visit marks the anniversary of
diplomatic relations established between the countries.Russia's
state-run TASS news agency said Putin told Assad they had "the
opportunity to talk about the entire set of our relations. We have not
seen each other for a while."The meeting came as Turkish President Recep

Tel
Aviv (AFP) July 26, 2024 - Chanting "yes, to peace, yes, to a deal",
hundreds of Palestinian and Jewish Israelis marched noisily through Tel
Aviv on Thursday night, demanding an end to the war in Gaza and the
cycle of violence.Their agenda starts with a ceasefire in the
Israel-Hamas war, but ultimately, they want to reboot
Palestinian-Israeli relations, and breathe new life into the moribund
peace movement."It basically went silent after October 7," and the start
of the war, Amira Mohammed, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, said of
the peace camp."The radicals became louder than the peace movement. So
right now, we've got to be radical about the peace that we
want."Mohammed said that included an "acknowledgement of the power
dynamic between occupier and occupied" as well as "accountability on
both sides.""We can't stop violence with more violence," said teacher
Carmit Bar Levy, 49."We need to ensure a good life for both Palestinians
and Jews inside of Israel. We have to acknowledge they have the same
right to live here as us."She said there was a growing sense since the
outbreak of the war that the status quo could not hold."Peace is the
only way forward," said Marcelo Oliki, 64, a survivor of the
Hamas-attacks on Kibbutz Nirim."There are children, women and babies
dying just across the border from me. There are people there who are
grieving too, just like me, and that want peace, too, like me."As the
war grinds on, demonstrations have erupted in Israel's largest city
multiple times a week, some staged by families of the hostages in Gaza,
some held by anti-government demonstrators active before the war, and
others by the Jewish-Arab peace camp.About 20 percent of Israel's 9.5
million inhabitants are Arab, and many of whom identify as
Palestinian.According to activists and watchdogs, Palestinian citizens
of Israel have struggled to get authorisation for anti-war protests.
Thursday's march was postponed a week after organisers said permission
was abruptly withdrawn. While Tel Aviv's various protest groups may
diverge on politics, they overlap in the call for an immediate
ceasefire.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his
insistence on "total victory" while addressing the US Congress on
Wednesday, while at home, members of his far-right coalition have
threatened to collapse the government over any deal with Hamas. The Hamas
attack that started the war on October 7 resulted in the deaths of
1,197 people in Israel, most of them civilians, according to an AFP
tally based on official Israeli figures.Israel's retaliatory offensive
has killed at least 39,175 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the
Hamas-run territory's health ministry."We have to remember that peace is
an option, we don't have to convince the far-right... we just need to
convince the people in the middle who don't want any more war," said
Maya Ofer, 23, a student and member of activist group Standing Together,
which organised the march. The group's co-director Rula Daoud addressed a
crowd waving signs reading "peace now" and "war has no winner".The
demonstrators insisted their vision for long-term political solutions
stemmed not from idealism but deep pragmatism."Two peoples live in this
country, and neither of them is going anywhere," Daoud said.

sandwiched between both countries and below the Himalayan mountain
range, dithers on whether to submit to Indian or Pakistani
rule.Militants backed by Pakistan attack the territory after the
suppression of local uprisings against the monarch's rule, prompting him
to seek India's help repelling them and precipitating an all-out war
between both countries.A UN-backed, 770-kilometre (478-mile) ceasefire
line in January 1949 becomes a de facto frontier dividing Kashmir, now
known as the Line of Control and still heavily militarised on both
sides.- 1965-71: Kashmir and Bangladesh wars -Pakistan launches a second
war in August 1965 when it invades Kashmir, seeking to bring the
divided territory entirely under its control. The conflict ends
inconclusively seven weeks later after a ceasefire brokered by the
Soviet Union with thousands of soldiers dead on each side.Pakistan
deploys troops at the start of 1971 to violently suppress a growing
independence movement in what is now Bangladesh, which it had governed
since 1947.An estimated three million people are killed in the
nine-month conflict and millions more cross into India with harrowing
stories of atrocities by Pakistani troops.India mobilises a full
invasion of Bangladesh at the end of the year, forcing Pakistan's
surrender less than two weeks later.Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's
popularity reaches stratospheric heights as a result of the quick
victory, bolstered further when her government announces India's first
successful nuclear weapons test three years later.- 1989-90: Rebellion
in Kashmir -An uprising breaks out in Kashmir in 1989 as longstanding
grievances with Indian rule boil over, worsened by a territorial
election that locals accuse authorities of rigging.Hindus and other
minorities flee the region over the following year after targeted
assassinations, assaults, and threats by rebel fighters.Tens of
thousands of soldiers, rebels and civilians are killed in the following
decades during periodic battles between security forces and
militants.Widespread human rights abuses are documented on both sides of
the conflict.India accuses Pakistan of funding the rebels and aiding
their weapons training on its territory.- 1998-99: Nuclear weapons and
Kargil conflict -Pakistan conducts its first public nuclear weapons
tests in 1998 in response to another round of tests by India weeks
earlier. The UN Security Council unanimously condemns both governments
and orders them to refrain from more tests, while the United States
imposes economic sanctions on both countries.Pakistan-backed militants
cross into Indian-administered Kashmir the following year, seizing
military posts in the icy heights of the Kargil mountains.Raja Mohammad
Zafarul Haq, a leading member of Pakistan's ruling party, says his
country will not refrain from using nuclear weapons to protect its
security if necessary.Pakistan yields after severe pressure from
Washington, alarmed by intelligence reports showing Islamabad had
deployed part of its nuclear arsenal nearer to the conflict.Prime
Minister Nawaz Sharif blames army chief Pervez Musharaf for igniting the
conflict, which killed at least 1,000 people over 10 weeks, without his
knowledge or approval.Musharaf overthrows Sharif in a coup months
later.- 2008-Present: Mumbai attacks and Modi -Islamist gunmen attack
the Indian financial hub of Mumbai in 2008, killing 166 people including
29 foreign nationals.India blames Pakistan's intelligence service for
the assault and suspends peace talks.Contacts resume in 2011, but the
situation is marred by sporadic fighting.Indian Prime Minister Narendra
Modi makes a surprise visit to Pakistan in 2015 but the diplomatic thaw
is short-lived.A 2019 suicide attack kills 41 Indian paramilitary troops
in Kashmir and prompts Modi to order tit-for-tat airstrikes inside
Pakistan. The resulting stand-off between the two nations is swiftly
defused and Modi is re-elected months later, partly on a wave of
nationalist fervour spurred by the military response.
North Korea vows 'total destruction' of enemy on Korean War anniversary-By Reuters-July 27, 20248:38 PM EDT
SEOUL,
July 28 (Reuters) - North Korea vowed to "totally destroy" its enemies
in case of war when leader Kim Jong Un gives an order, state media KCNA
reported on Sunday.Senior military officials including Army Colonel Ri
Un Ryong and Navy Lieutenant Commander Yu Kyong Song made the comments
"out of surging hatred" towards the U.S. and South Korea at a meeting on
Saturday attended by Kim to celebrate the 71st Korean War armistice
anniversary, according to KCNA.North Korea and the United States do not
have diplomatic ties and talks over reducing tensions and denuclearising
North Korea have been stalled since 2019. North Korea's state media
recently said it doesn't expect that to change no matter who is next
elected in the White House. While accusing the U.S. and South Korea of
"being hell-bent on provoking a nuclear war," the military officials
vowed to strengthen war efficiency to stage an "overwhelming attack on
the enemy anytime and without delay and totally destroy them once the
respected Supreme Commander Kim Jong Un gives an order."North Korea
signed an armistice agreement with the United States and China on July
27, 1953 ending hostilities in the three-year war. U.S. generals signed
the agreement representing the United Nations forces that backed South
Korea.North Korea calls July 27 "Victory Day" while South Korea does not
mark the day with any major events.Hostilities ended with a truce, not a
treaty, meaning the two sides are still technically at war.Reporting by

Typhoon Gaemi forces evacuation, factory suspension in northeast China-By Reuters-July 27, 20245:25 AM EDT
BEIJING,
July 27 (Reuters) - More than 27,000 people in northeast China were
evacuated and hundreds of factories were ordered to suspend production
as Typhoon Gaemi brought heavy rains, the official Xinhua news agency
reported on Saturday.Gaemi lashed towns on China's coastal Fujian
province on Friday with heavy rains and strong winds as the most
powerful storm to hit the country this year began its widely watched
trek from the southeastern coast into the populous interior.Heavy rains
caused water levels to rise in 40 reservoirs across Liaoning province,
the area is expected to experience torrential rain from early on Sunday
Tuesday, the report said.Hundreds of chemical and mining companies
across the province have suspended operations and nearby residents have
been relocated to avoid flood risks, Xinhua said. The storm, which killed
dozens as it swept through Taiwan and worsened seasonal rains in the
Philippines, has affected almost 630,000 people in China's Fujian
province, with almost half of them being relocated, Xinhua has
reported.Reporting by Kevin Yao; Editing by William Mallard.
California wildfire explodes, becomes largest in US-By Joseph Ax-July 27, 20249:42 PM EDT
July
27 (Reuters) - Thousands of firefighters were battling a rapidly
growing wildfire in northern California on Saturday after the blaze more
than doubled in size in a 24-hour span. The Park Fire had burned more
than 350,000 acres (141,640 hectares) about 90 miles (144 km) north of
the state capital city of Sacramento as of Saturday evening, according
to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal
Fire.Cooler temperatures and more humid air were expected in the region,
potentially helping efforts to slow the spread of the fire, which was
10% contained as of Saturday evening. The fire has destroyed 134
structures, authorities said.Evacuation orders and warnings were issued
for multiple communities in several counties, including a warning for
Paradise, the town that was devastated by the 2018 Camp Fire, the
deadliest in the state's history.U.S. President Joe Biden has been
briefed on the fire and has directed his team to do everything possible
to support efforts to fight it, a White House official said.A man was
arrested on Thursday on suspicion that he started the Park Fire by
pushing a flaming car into a gully on Wednesday afternoon. The fire was
the largest of dozens of active blazes across the country that have
burned more than 2 million acres, according to the National Interagency
Fire Center. In Oregon, several fires were burning, including the Durkee
Fire, which had scorched more than 288,000 acres in the eastern part of
the state, authorities said.

Jasper, Alberta fire coming under control, say authorities-By Fergal Smith-July 27, 20247:53 PM EDT
TORONTO,
July 27 (Reuters) - Progress has been made suppressing fires in the
Canadian tourist town of Jasper, with the remaining ones expected to be
put out by the end of the day, authorities said on Saturday. The fires -
caused by a massive wildfire that is sweeping through Alberta's
mountainous Jasper National Park - are said to have destroyed about a
third of the town."Jasper townsite fire suppression has been progressing
well, and we are anticipating that all remaining fires within the
townsite will be extinguished today," Parks Canada, the government
agency that manages the country's national parks, said on X."Power is
being restored to parts of the downtown core and critical infrastructure
today. This will speed up further damage assessment and
recovery."Still, the status of the wildfire in Jasper National Park
remains classified as "out of control," the government agency said,
adding that it is the largest wildfire in more than 100 years in the
park. The town and park, which draw more than 2 million tourists a year
to this area of the Rocky Mountains, were evacuated on Monday. There are
157 wildfires currently burning across Alberta, according to the latest
update from the province. Still, that is six fewer than reported on
Friday."Cooler, rainy weather is helping the firefighters in their
efforts of trying to put out some of these wildfires," said Melissa
Story, provincial wildfire information officer, Alberta Wildfire."We all
must be patient. We know this will take some time but rest assured good
progress is being made."Reporting by Fergal Smith; Editing by Sandra

Oregon wildfire explodes to half the size of Rhode Island-By Rich Mckay-July 27, 20248:24 PM EDT
July
26 (Reuters) - Winds and lightning strikes have sparked and fanned
wildfires across the Pacific Northwest this week, including the largest
fire currently burning in the U.S., which was rapidly expanding near the
Oregon-Idaho border on Friday. The Durkee Fire near Huntington, Oregon,
has scorched 600 square miles (1,600 square km), an area more than half
the size of Rhode Island's land mass, authorities said. It is
threatening several towns. The blaze was set off by lightning on July 17,
and wind gusts up to 60 mph (100 kph) drove the flames across brush,
timberland and ranches, killing hundreds of cattle. The fire was only
20% contained on Friday, officials said. While there is zero chance of
rain through next week, winds have dropped and cooler air is in store,
said meteorologist Marc Chenard of the National Weather
Service."Hopefully it gives firefighters a break," he said.As of
Thursday, wildfires this year have burned almost 1 million acres
(400,000 hectares) in Oregon and 125,900 acres in Washington, according
to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center in Portland, Oregon. In
2020, the worst year in recent memory,
Oregon wildfires scorched
more than 1.14 million acres, according to a tally by CBS TV affiliate
KOIN.In California, the Park Fire, believed to have been started by an
arsonist, has forced the evacuation of more than 4,000 residents in
Butte County, about 100 miles northeast of Sacramento.A suspect was
arrested on Thursday, accused of pushing a burning car down a bone-dry
gully.
The fire grew uncontrolled overnight from 125,000 acres on
Thursday to 178,090 acres on Friday afternoon, according to the
California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. More than a
hundred buildings had been damaged or destroyed."The biggest challenge
with this fire is getting to it," said Fire Captain Dan Collins. "It's
steep land with almost no roads. It's hard to get our people and
equipment to the fire lines."More than 1,600 firefighters were deployed
to contain the blaze, CalFire said.Forecasters warned that winds would
reach 30 miles mph (50 kph) on Friday and through the weekend. Combined
with low humidity, it is a recipe for rapid growth, officials said.
Smoke
from fires in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest have brought
hazy skies and unhealthy air from the Rocky Mountains to Minneapolis and
as far east as Detroit, weather reports said.Denver had the worst air
quality in the U.S. on Friday and ranked the 30th worst in the world,
according to IQAir, a group that tracks air pollution across the
globe.Much of the smoke coming into the Central and Eastern U.S. comes
from a raging wildfire in the mountainous Jasper National Park in the
Canadian province of Alberta. The park and the town of Jasper, which
draws more than 2 million tourists a year, were evacuated on Monday,
displacing 10,000 residents and 15,000 park visitors. As much as half of
the structures in the town could be damaged or destroyed, officials
said, as the blaze burned more than 89,000 acres as of late
Thursday.Videos posted on social media show entire streets leveled by
the blazes in the Alberta province, with scorched trees, charred metal
skeletons of cars, and nothing but rubble where homes and businesses had
stood.Reporting by Rich McKay in Atlanta; Additional reporting by
Jonathan Allen; Editing by Rod Nickel, Sandra Maler and William Mallard.
