A net 37 percent of members have died, transferred out, or simply vanished in the past decade.The drop is consistent with an accelerating exodus of members since the denomination redefined marriage as between any two persons in 2014. Despite the arguments by progressives within the Presbyterian church that these changes are needed to bring in young people, the exact opposite has happened as 56 percent of members are now over the age of 55.At its current rate of shrinkage the PCUSA will not exist in about 20 years. Sadly, the end of this "church" cannot come fast enough.

As more organizations begin wading into uncharted territory, society will be forced to examine a host of new privacy and security questions – without easy answers-Back in 1969, when Star Trek’s fleet officers scanned their thumbs on a pad to pay bills, TV audiences got more than a dose of sci-fi. They gazed into the future.That future is now a reality.Since last August, earth-born employees at Three Square Market, a Wisconsin-based tech firm, have been breezing into their workplace, operating computers and making purchases at onsite vending machines – all by waving a hand implanted with a data-crammed microchip. Elsewhere, in Sweden, an early adopter of microchip implants in every day life, train conductors scan passengers’ hands after they book tickets online and register them on their chip.These current uses only hint at the extraordinary potential for microchip implants -- in the United States and around the globe.“It’s the future, and these chips are going to be more and more ubiquitous,” said Arthur Caplan, director of the division of medical ethics at the NYU School of Medicine.With credit cards, passports and driver’s licenses incorporating identification-embedded microchips and many pet owners implanting chips into their pets to track their whereabouts, it was only a matter of time before they entered the human body.Predictions abound that everyone – from babes in arms to elderly folks suffering from dementia – will one day have a microchip implant for one reason or another.Looking ahead, Lee Barrett, executive director and CEO of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, sees value in hospitals micro-chipping newborns to ensure that mothers leave with the infants they bore. And he envisions an ever-growing use of microchip implants containing detailed data on an individual’s medical conditions, including allergies, so that physicians can readily access the information in the event of an emergency hospital admission.In rural areas, where no physicians practice, microchip implants could remotely transmit an individual’s health data to a nurse or doctor, said Caplan, who sees the devices particularly advantageous to astronauts and submarine personnel. The chips could also let authorities know whether pilots are drunk before or after takeoff.Predictions abound that everyone – from babes in arms to elderly folks suffering from dementia – will one day have a microchip implant for one reason or another.In the world of law and order, a microchip – with GPS capabilities – could be implanted in inmates to minimize prison breakouts, as well as increase the likelihood of capturing escapees before they do any harm in the outside world.But along with their many uses, microchip implants could be prone to abuses, predict experts.Through WiFi, black hatters could latch onto microchip implants, infecting them with havoc-producing viruses, or they could access the vital, private information the devices contain. “Someone can use the information to extort you, sell it and threaten to release it in public places,” said Caplan.The chips could also spur physical violence, with thieves abducting micro-chipped individuals and forcing them to wave their hands to withdraw cash at ATMs.To prevent such scenarios, Robert J. Shaker II, senior manager, product management, in Symantec’s Cyber Security Services manager, envisions a technology that monitors heart rates and brainwaves in order to send signals to the chip that the implanted individual is under duress – and to block access to an ATM. Adding DNA to the chip’s recognition abilities, he noted, would thwart the efforts of criminals who forcibly remove implants and insert them into their own bodies.“The implant would notice something is wrong and could start sending signals for help,” said Shaker, who views the microchip’s tie-in with DNA, brainwaves and heart as an “end-to-end authentication process.”Brian Green, director of Technology Ethics at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, expressed concern that in a world where retailers, credit card companies and employers would each have their own chips for human implantation, the government could become the centralized surveillance body, which would turn the country into a “surveillance state.” Plus, it could be hackable.“A loss of privacy is the underlying issue," said Green.As implants become more widespread, Green believes that individuals should have the right to decide whether they want the microchip in their bodies. But, in a surveillance state, individuals who decline implanted microchips could be out of sync with technology and even marginalized. They would risk not having the same protections as those who are micro-chipped – and if they were in danger, the police wouldn’t be able to rescue them as readily, imagined Green.On a micro-level, a company could also become a surveillance entity. Although tracking devices are already embedded in corporate-owned cars and other equipment provided to employees for their work, “we can detach ourselves from the car,” said Michael Ansell, an attorney specializing in labor employment and consumer class action cases and associated with the New Jersey law firm Ansell Grimm & Aaron PC. “But there’s no cut-off for a chip implanted.” Employers would have knowledge of their micro-chipped workers’ comings, goings and doings -- before, during and after work hours.And unless the country passes legislation similar to HIPAA, which provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information, employers are under no obligation to stay mum about their workers’ personal lives. “As soon as you allow employers to have it, it doesn’t prevent them from disclosing it to others,” said Ansell.According to experts, other possible consequences include doctors refusing to care for individuals whose microchip indicates that they aren’t eating properly or taking their daily medicine and insurance companies denying coverage to people implanted with a tracking chip that reveals their tendency to speed.“There’s no lying, cheating, hiding or ducking,” said Caplan. “It’s Big Brother in a tiny chip.”

Elon Musk, the futurist billionaire behind SpaceX and Tesla, outlined his plans to connect humans' brains directly to computers on Tuesday night, describing a campaign to create "symbiosis with artificial intelligence." He said the first prototype could be implanted in a person by the end of next year.Arriving at that goal "will take a long time," Musk said in a presentation at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, noting that securing federal approval for implanted neural devices is difficult. But testing on animals is already underway, and "a monkey has been able to control the computer with his brain," he said.Musk founded Neuralink Corp. in July 2016 to create "ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers." The company said in 2017 that its initial goal was to devise brain interfaces to alleviate the symptoms of chronic medical conditions.It's widely presumed, however, that Musk is characteristically after something much larger. Following the song "God Welcomes All" by the church choir, Sparke Leigh walked up on stage and, rather than reading from the Bible, read the book Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag to the audience.Milk is considered the first openly homosexual elected politician in California and worked as a homosexual rights activist. The story was intended for children, some of whom sat at his feet during the reading. Milk was a well known pedophile.At another point during the service, a man stood up and gave his ‘testimony’. Not of finding Christ, but of his "coming out" and acceptance of the Gay lifestyle.Meanwhile, Ginter Park Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia has just ordained its first pastoral candidate who identifies as gender non-binary (not exclusively masculine or feminine) over the weekend.Cook becomes the first non-binary person to complete the PCUSA's ordination process but, no doubt, will not be the last. Cook will fit right in with the recent nomination of Kathy Luecker, who had been asked to serve as president of the Presbyterian church's "A Corporation", which manages the church's real estate and finances.Luecker was fired from the Presbyterian church fifteen years ago for meeting with the terrorist group Hezbollah, in Lebanon, but oh how times have changed. Now the Presbyterians are leading the charge for the BDS movement which seeks to sanction Israel economically for its perceived injustices towards the Palestinians.Each General Assembly has become a forum to see who can put forward the most anti-Israel resolutions. Many Jewish groups that try to build bridges with Christians say they can no longer work with Presbyterians due to their outlandish positions.This is the same denomination that has continuously shown its pro-choice credentials by overwhelmingly rejecting a motion at its annual meeting suggesting the church publicly condemn the killing of babies born alive after botched abortions.Fully 78 percent of delegates from the PCUSA voted against a "two year season of reflection on the plight of unwanted children," which called on church leaders to "issue statements that denounce the practice of killing babies born live following an abortion procedure, such as was revealed in the Dr. Kermit Gosnell clinic in Philadelphia."You also have Auburn Seminary, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, that held a breakfast to honor Planned Parenthood's Cecile Richards as a hero and someone worthy of emulation.And of course the PCUSA is a member of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice -- a group which supports Planned Parenthood financially.The good news is that those who still hold to solid doctrine have abandoned this church.Statistics made available by the PCUSA Office of the General Assembly (OGA) show the denomination continues to decline, dropping to 1,352,678 active members in 2018. A net 37 percent of members have died, transferred out, or simply vanished in the past decade.The drop is consistent with an accelerating exodus of members since the denomination redefined marriage as between any two persons in 2014. Despite the arguments by progressives within the Presbyterian church that these changes are needed to bring in young people, the exact opposite has happened as 56 percent of members are now over the age of 55.At its current rate of shrinkage the PCUSA will not exist in about 20 years. Sadly, the end of this "church" cannot come fast enough.

As more organizations begin wading into uncharted territory, society will be forced to examine a host of new privacy and security questions – without easy answers-Back in 1969, when Star Trek’s fleet officers scanned their thumbs on a pad to pay bills, TV audiences got more than a dose of sci-fi. They gazed into the future.That future is now a reality.Since last August, earth-born employees at Three Square Market, a Wisconsin-based tech firm, have been breezing into their workplace, operating computers and making purchases at onsite vending machines – all by waving a hand implanted with a data-crammed microchip. Elsewhere, in Sweden, an early adopter of microchip implants in every day life, train conductors scan passengers’ hands after they book tickets online and register them on their chip.These current uses only hint at the extraordinary potential for microchip implants -- in the United States and around the globe.“It’s the future, and these chips are going to be more and more ubiquitous,” said Arthur Caplan, director of the division of medical ethics at the NYU School of Medicine.With credit cards, passports and driver’s licenses incorporating identification-embedded microchips and many pet owners implanting chips into their pets to track their whereabouts, it was only a matter of time before they entered the human body.Predictions abound that everyone – from babes in arms to elderly folks suffering from dementia – will one day have a microchip implant for one reason or another.Looking ahead, Lee Barrett, executive director and CEO of the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission, sees value in hospitals micro-chipping newborns to ensure that mothers leave with the infants they bore. And he envisions an ever-growing use of microchip implants containing detailed data on an individual’s medical conditions, including allergies, so that physicians can readily access the information in the event of an emergency hospital admission.In rural areas, where no physicians practice, microchip implants could remotely transmit an individual’s health data to a nurse or doctor, said Caplan, who sees the devices particularly advantageous to astronauts and submarine personnel. The chips could also let authorities know whether pilots are drunk before or after takeoff.Predictions abound that everyone – from babes in arms to elderly folks suffering from dementia – will one day have a microchip implant for one reason or another.In the world of law and order, a microchip – with GPS capabilities – could be implanted in inmates to minimize prison breakouts, as well as increase the likelihood of capturing escapees before they do any harm in the outside world.But along with their many uses, microchip implants could be prone to abuses, predict experts.Through WiFi, black hatters could latch onto microchip implants, infecting them with havoc-producing viruses, or they could access the vital, private information the devices contain. “Someone can use the information to extort you, sell it and threaten to release it in public places,” said Caplan.The chips could also spur physical violence, with thieves abducting micro-chipped individuals and forcing them to wave their hands to withdraw cash at ATMs.To prevent such scenarios, Robert J. Shaker II, senior manager, product management, in Symantec’s Cyber Security Services manager, envisions a technology that monitors heart rates and brainwaves in order to send signals to the chip that the implanted individual is under duress – and to block access to an ATM. Adding DNA to the chip’s recognition abilities, he noted, would thwart the efforts of criminals who forcibly remove implants and insert them into their own bodies.“The implant would notice something is wrong and could start sending signals for help,” said Shaker, who views the microchip’s tie-in with DNA, brainwaves and heart as an “end-to-end authentication process.”Brian Green, director of Technology Ethics at Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, expressed concern that in a world where retailers, credit card companies and employers would each have their own chips for human implantation, the government could become the centralized surveillance body, which would turn the country into a “surveillance state.” Plus, it could be hackable.“A loss of privacy is the underlying issue," said Green.As implants become more widespread, Green believes that individuals should have the right to decide whether they want the microchip in their bodies. But, in a surveillance state, individuals who decline implanted microchips could be out of sync with technology and even marginalized. They would risk not having the same protections as those who are micro-chipped – and if they were in danger, the police wouldn’t be able to rescue them as readily, imagined Green.On a micro-level, a company could also become a surveillance entity. Although tracking devices are already embedded in corporate-owned cars and other equipment provided to employees for their work, “we can detach ourselves from the car,” said Michael Ansell, an attorney specializing in labor employment and consumer class action cases and associated with the New Jersey law firm Ansell Grimm & Aaron PC. “But there’s no cut-off for a chip implanted.” Employers would have knowledge of their micro-chipped workers’ comings, goings and doings -- before, during and after work hours.And unless the country passes legislation similar to HIPAA, which provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information, employers are under no obligation to stay mum about their workers’ personal lives. “As soon as you allow employers to have it, it doesn’t prevent them from disclosing it to others,” said Ansell.According to experts, other possible consequences include doctors refusing to care for individuals whose microchip indicates that they aren’t eating properly or taking their daily medicine and insurance companies denying coverage to people implanted with a tracking chip that reveals their tendency to speed.“There’s no lying, cheating, hiding or ducking,” said Caplan. “It’s Big Brother in a tiny chip.”

Elon Musk, the futurist billionaire behind SpaceX and Tesla, outlined his plans to connect humans' brains directly to computers on Tuesday night, describing a campaign to create "symbiosis with artificial intelligence." He said the first prototype could be implanted in a person by the end of next year.Arriving at that goal "will take a long time," Musk said in a presentation at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, noting that securing federal approval for implanted neural devices is difficult. But testing on animals is already underway, and "a monkey has been able to control the computer with his brain," he said.Musk founded Neuralink Corp. in July 2016 to create "ultra-high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers." The company said in 2017 that its initial goal was to devise brain interfaces to alleviate the symptoms of chronic medical conditions.It's widely presumed, however, that Musk is characteristically after something much larger. He has frequently warned that the rapid advance of artificial intelligence, or AI, threatens to leave humanity in the dust, calling it an existential risk.Musk repeated Tuesday night that one of the goals of Neuralink was to treat brain disorders, saying, "We can solve that with a chip."But he went on to say that it also sought to help you "preserve and enhance your own brain" and to "create a well-aligned future."As he has before, Musk warned that as it stands, humanity is at risk of being left behind by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, or AI — "even in a benign AI scenario — hopefully, it is a benign scenario."Addressing that, Musk said Tuesday, will require finding a way for the brain to "merge" with AI, most likely through tiny wireless chips implanted in the brain through a 2-millimeter incision to create what he called "some sort of symbiosis with artificial intelligence," with a goal of no less than securing "humanity's future as a civilization relative to AI."The biggest technical hurdle is bandwidth, Musk said, meaning the tools humans use to interface with computers, like current hardware systems and smartphones.While Neuralink "aspirationally" hopes to implant the first chip in a human patient before the end of 2020, Musk acknowledged that the larger goal will take a long time. Still, the ultimate hope is for "some sort of symbiosis with artificial intelligence," which he said would take root "at the civilizational scale.""With a high-bandwidth brain interface, I think we can have the option of merging with AI," he said.Asked how Neuralink could make such an advance system affordable and widely available, Musk said the infrastructure would be so simple that it wouldn't need expensive neuroscientists to implant and maintain."I think it's safe to say you could repay the loan with superhuman intelligence," he said. "I think it's a safe bet."In November, Musk touted "an AI extension of yourself" in an interview with comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan, saying: "If you can't beat it, join it."From a long-term existential standpoint, that's, like, the purpose of Neuralink, to create a high-bandwidth interface to the brain such that we can be symbiotic with AI," he said. "Because we have a bandwidth problem. You just can't communicate through your fingers.
