The eldest son of a rabbi killed almost three years ago in a terror shooting attack in the West Bank died Sunday after being involved in a traffic accident on Friday.Shlomi Mark, 29, was critically injured Friday evening in a motorbike accident near the southern city of Kiryat Gat while he was on his way to his work at the Prime Minister’s Office.He was taken to Soroka hospital in Beersheba, where medical staff fought for his life but eventually pronounced him dead on Sunday morning. An Iranian man shot and killed seven members of his wife’s family, state media reported on Sunday.The man opened fire on his relatives late Saturday in the southwestern city of Dezful using a Kalashnikov assault rifle, according to state organ IRNA.Another outlet, the Mehr news agency, said four people had also been wounded in the shooting.There was no immediate report on the motive behind the shooting, which claimed the lives of five men and two women.The shooter, who has not been identified by officials, attempted to kill himself after the attack, officials said, but survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was hospitalized.His condition is not immediately known.Shootings are rare in Iran, where citizens are only allowed to own hunting rifles.The incident is the first such shooting in Iran since January 2017, when a gunman shot and killed five people in the city of Arak, just a month after a man in a southern rural region of Iran shot and killed 10 family members.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told Arab leaders on Sunday that the United States will tell Israel to annex part of the West Bank.Abbas made the comment less than a week after US President Donald Trump formally recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, but did not say when he expected the US to advise Israel to make the move.“[The US] illegitimately announced its recognition of Israel annexing the occupied Syrian Golan… which we and the whole world reject. What is coming from the United States is even more dangerous,” Abbas said in a speech to the opening session of an Arab League summit in Tunisia. “It will tell Israel: ‘Annex part of the Palestinian land, give what remains of it self-rule and grant the Gaza Strip a nominal state for Hamas to play with.’”Israel has not formally annexed the Golan, but rather has extended its laws to the territory, a measure considered tantamount to annexation.A senior Israeli official said last Tuesday that US recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan will help the Jewish state lay claim to other lands it captured during defensive wars.
