Four rockets landed in northern Israel Thursday afternoon after being shot from Syria, sparking fires but causing no injuries.The rockets landed in the northern Galilee and Golan Heights, the Israeli military said in a statement.The army blamed Palestinian terror group Islamic Jihad for the rocket fire, saying it was done with “Iranian money and intention.”“We consider Syria to be responsible for the fire and it will also suffer the results,” the army said in a statement slightly after 8 p.m.The statement was followed by reports of Israeli shelling in Syria, according to Israel’s Army Radio.The rockets landed after sirens sounded in several communities around Israel’s north at about 5:45 p.m.The Israeli military confirmed in a statement that “four rockets were launched from the Syrian Golan Heights, landing in the upper Galilee and the Israeli Golan Heights.”No injuries were reported, the army said.Two of the rockets landed near a kibbutz in the Hula Valley in the Upper Galilee, according to Israeli media reports.Members of Islamic Jihad, which is known to have rockets in Gaza, had threatened to attack Israel earlier in the week over the fate of hunger striking Palestinian detainee Mohammed Allaan, who it says is part of the terror group.The army placed Iron Dome anti-missile batteries around the southern cities of Ashdod and Beersheba in response.Earlier in the day, Allaan ended his strike and was said to be improving.There was no immediate confirmation from Islamic Jihad.If the rockets were shot intentionally from Syria, it would be the first time sine 1973 that Israel was purposefully targeted by rockets from Syria. Stray mortar shells from internecine fighting in Syria occasionally explode in Israeli territory.An Israel Radio report said the rockets were artillery shells.The attack came amid peak tourism season for the north, when thousands of vacationing Israelis flock to lodges and camping sites in the verdant region.The Upper Galilee Regional Council instructed residents to remain near safe places after the attacks.Last month, a malfunction triggered air raid sirens across Israel’s north, sending residents into bomb shelters.Israeli troops recently held a large-scale drill in Israel’s north to prepare for the possibility of a large scale attack from either Syria or Lebanon, including the possibility of an Israeli offensive into Syria. Officials have warned for over a year that Iranian backed terror groups, including Hezbollah, were using Syria’s power vacuum to set up squads to carry out attacks against Israel from the Syrian Golan. Officials have also expressed worries over Islamist rebels making gains in the area attacking Israel.On Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon and top military officials visited the northern border and warned that Iranian money freed up in the nuclear deal would be funneled to terror groups on Israel’s borders.“We are ready for any eventuality. Those who try to attack us – we will hurt them,” Netanyahu said.

Israel on Thursday demanded the publication of undisclosed agreements reached between Iran and the UN International Atomic Energy Agency, after a report on part of the accord detailed Iran’s ability to police itself at a suspected military nuclear site.An Israeli diplomatic official said the report had proven Israeli opposition to the nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers correct.“There is just one safe way to verify this report: for the world powers to publicize all appendixes to the nuclear deal with Iran,” a diplomatic official said.The IAEA has refused to publicize details of the agreements it reached with Tehran, but on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported the nuclear watchdog ceded the responsibility of nuclear inspections at the Parchin military complex to Tehran officials.The IAEA inspection of Parchin, a site believed by some experts to be where Iran has previously experimented with high-explosive detonators for nuclear arms, is linked to a broader probe of allegations that the Islamic Republic has worked on atomic weapons in the past.“The more details we learn about the Iran deal the more we realize that our worries were justified and correct,” the Israeli official said.The Parchin deal is a side agreement worked out directly between the IAEA and Iran, and is not linked directly to the multilateral nuclear deal signed on July 14, though the US says it will only ease sanctions once the atomic watchdog gives its stamp of approval.The United States and five other world powers that signed the July 14 nuclear agreement were not party to the Parchin deal but were briefed on it by the IAEA and endorsed it as part of the larger package. The IAEA said the organization was required by law not to reveal the details of its agreements with Iran.Earlier on Thursday, the IAEA said it was was satisfied with arrangements concerning the inspection of Iranian military facilities, and an agency spokesman said the arrangements were “consistent with the IAEA verification practice and they meet the IAEA requirements.”IAEA head Yukiya Amano called the agreement “technically sound” and said the AP report had misrepresented his agency’s work.The White House also endorsed the confidential arrangements, and said it was “confident” in the abilities of the IAEA to monitor and inspect the possible military dimensions on Iran’s past nuclear work and was “comfortable” with agreement between the IAEA and Tehran to ensure compliance with the nuclear deal.Iran has refused access to Parchin for years. Based on US, Israeli and other intelligence and its own research, the IAEA suspects that the Islamic Republic may have experimented with high-explosive detonators for nuclear arms at that military facility.The IAEA has also repeatedly cited evidence, based on satellite images, of possible attempts to sanitize the site since the alleged work stopped more than a decade ago.Israel has repeatedly slammed the nuclear deal concluded by the P5+1 powers and Iran, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu branding it a historic mistake that will both pave Iran’s path to the bomb and, by lifting sanctions, cement the Islamist regime in power and allow it to fund more terrorist activity and other dangerous regional interventions.AP contributed to this report.

Iron Dome anti-missile defense systems were deployed Thursday in areas between the coastal port cities of Ashkelon and Ashdod. The system was also deployed Thursday in the northern Negev city of Be’er Sheva, where the system has not been deployed since last summer’s Operation Protective Edge against Hamas and allied terrorists in Gaza.Security coordinators for communities in the Gaza Belt and other districts in southern Israel have been warned of possible rocket fire by Gaza terrorists.Rocket fire was launched at northern Israel from the Syrian side of the border late Thursday afternoon. Two rockets exploded in open fields in the Galilee Panhandle, setting ripening crops ablaze. Two more rockets exploded in the Golan Heights and ignited fires in fields there as well. Firefighting crews were backed by by firefighter aircraft in helping to extinguish the flames.Israel Defense Forces and local security personnel have been placed on high alert in response to the deteriorating health condition of Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist Mohammed Alla’an, hospitalized at Barzilai Medical Center.The Gaza-based, Iranian-backed PIJ terror group has threatened to launch attacks against Israel if the hunger-striker dies.Alla’an, who was held on administrative detention in connection with terror activity, has caused himself brain damage after refusing to eat for more than 60 days. It is not clear whether or not the damage is reversible.Israel’s High Court of Justice order the state to suspend Alla’an’s detention and to allow his family unrestricted visitation.
