Uri Schechter, a resident of the Gush Etzion resident of Rosh Tzurim, is believed to be the last person who saw and spoke with Dalia Lemkos, who was murdered in Monday’s terrorist attack in Gush Etzion.Schechter gave Lemkos a ride to the hitchhiking station outside the town of Alon Shvut, where she was stabbed to death by a terrorist. He recalled the day’s events in a post on his Facebook page on Monday evening."I am writing this post with trembling hands. Today I experienced one of the difficult and most painful experiences of my life," he wrote, recalling what happened that earlier that afternoon, as he made his way home from Modi’in."I saw a young woman standing at the Shimshon junction, holding up a sign reading ‘Gush Etzion’. I stopped and when she entered the car, the sign rolled over and I saw that the other side read ‘Kiryat Gat’.”"I asked her with a smile, ‘Are you going to Gush Etzion or to Kiryat Gat?’. A 20-year-old IDF soldier was critically wounded in a terrorist stabbing attack at the entrance to Tel Aviv's Hahagana train station on Monday.Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim at the site before sending him to Ichilov Hospital where he was brought to the surgery room.The victim was reportedly stabbed numerous times, including in the upper body and waist, as he tried to fight off his attacker. The attacker proceeded to try and escape from the scene towards Levanda Street as he was pursued by security forces and citizens.The terrorist has been identified by Channel 2 as Nur al-Din Abu Hashiya, an 18-year-old from Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria who had illegally entered into sovereign Israeli territory. Police spokesperson Luba Samri said "it was apparently an attack with nationalist motives. The suspect is a resident of the Nablus."Hashiya tried to snatch a weapon from his victim, but was prevented from doing so by citizens in the area at which he decided to flee.He was arrested and brought in for questioning, and during the process an officer in his 50s was reportedly lightly wounded and was given treatment at the scene; traffic in the area has been blocked off due to the attack.According to reports the terrorist was captured after trying to take refuge in a four-story apartment building, with forces locating him thanks to the help of citizens on the top floor of the building.A witness to the attack named Kobi told public radio "I got to Hahagana bridge with a friend and we saw a big man in a red sweatshirt stabbing a soldier twice, apparently someone from the air force. And they are calling all parties to respect the Status Quo, the understanding reached back in the days of the Ottoman Empire, which regulates relations between the various religious groups present in the area and protects the Holy Sites of all religions within the city.This call came in the form ofa joint declaration published in Jerusalem, which has been the centre of provocation, clashes and attacks around Haram al Sharif, the “sacred enclosure” of mosques where the Temple once stood. Right-wing Jewish nationalist groups are claiming their right to go and pray there in an increasingly open manner; Muslims see this as an act of blatant provocation. After the attack against one the movement’s leaders a day or so ago - Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who has been campaigning to have the Temple rebuilt, in the place of the al Aqsa Mosque – Jerusalem has become the scene of non-stop clashes and attacks. On Wednesday, two Israelis were deliberately run over by a Palestinian at a light rail stop. Ramallah (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - Europe's top diplomat on Saturday called for a Palestinian state sharing Jerusalem as its capital with Israel, hours after the police killing of an Arab-Israeli further fanned tensions.The appeal by the European Union's Federica Mogherini followed the dawn killing of the man by police in northern Israel, with his family saying he was killed "in cold blood" and a video showing he was shot in the back."I think Jerusalem can be and should be the capital of two states," the new EU foreign policy chief told reporters in the Israeli-occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.The status of Jerusalem is a sensitive issue that has blocked peace efforts for decades.Palestinians are seeking to achieve statehood in Gaza and the West Bank with annexed east Jerusalem as their capital. Uri Schechter, a resident of the Gush Etzion resident of Rosh Tzurim, is believed to be the last person who saw and spoke with Dalia Lemkos, who was murdered in Monday’s terrorist attack in Gush Etzion.Schechter gave Lemkos a ride to the hitchhiking station outside the town of Alon Shvut, where she was stabbed to death by a terrorist. He recalled the day’s events in a post on his Facebook page on Monday evening."I am writing this post with trembling hands. Today I experienced one of the difficult and most painful experiences of my life," he wrote, recalling what happened that earlier that afternoon, as he made his way home from Modi’in."I saw a young woman standing at the Shimshon junction, holding up a sign reading ‘Gush Etzion’. I stopped and when she entered the car, the sign rolled over and I saw that the other side read ‘Kiryat Gat’.”"I asked her with a smile, ‘Are you going to Gush Etzion or to Kiryat Gat?’. She replied that she lives in Tekoa in Gush Etzion and works in Kiryat Gat,” he continued.Lemkos told Shechter that she works as an occupational therapist in kindergartens and loves working with children, he recalled. "We continued to talk. I let her off at the intersection of Alon Shvut and headed towards my home in Rosh Tzurim. A 20-year-old IDF soldier was critically wounded in a terrorist stabbing attack at the entrance to Tel Aviv's Hahagana train station on Monday.Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim at the site before sending him to Ichilov Hospital where he was brought to the surgery room.The victim was reportedly stabbed numerous times, including in the upper body and waist, as he tried to fight off his attacker. The attacker proceeded to try and escape from the scene towards Levanda Street as he was pursued by security forces and citizens.The terrorist has been identified by Channel 2 as Nur al-Din Abu Hashiya, an 18-year-old from Shechem (Nablus) in Samaria who had illegally entered into sovereign Israeli territory. Police spokesperson Luba Samri said "it was apparently an attack with nationalist motives. The suspect is a resident of the Nablus."Hashiya tried to snatch a weapon from his victim, but was prevented from doing so by citizens in the area at which he decided to flee.He was arrested and brought in for questioning, and during the process an officer in his 50s was reportedly lightly wounded and was given treatment at the scene; traffic in the area has been blocked off due to the attack.According to reports the terrorist was captured after trying to take refuge in a four-story apartment building, with forces locating him thanks to the help of citizens on the top floor of the building.A witness to the attack named Kobi told public radio "I got to Hahagana bridge with a friend and we saw a big man in a red sweatshirt stabbing a soldier twice, apparently someone from the air force. I stopped the car and we started to run after him, shouting 'terrorist, terrorist.'"Kobi said he returned to help the soldier who was clearly in serious condition, saying "he was conscious but his situation deteriorated very quickly," reports AFP.The latest attack follows a day of escalated Arab violence Sunday, with numerous rock, firebomb and mob attacks in the north of the country as well as in the Jerusalem area that has experienced the worst of a wave of terror in recent months.In the backdrop of the recent spate of terrorism is an incident on Saturday night, in which an Arab man tried to stab police officers with a knife before being shot in the Galilee village of Kafr Kanna.That incident sparked riots in the Galilee region which have continued sporadically into Monday. Rome-Leaders of Christian Churches in Jerusalem are watching with great concern as the events currently taking place in the Esplanade of the Mosques unfold. And they are calling all parties to respect the Status Quo, the understanding reached back in the days of the Ottoman Empire, which regulates relations between the various religious groups present in the area and protects the Holy Sites of all religions within the city.This call came in the form ofa joint declaration published in Jerusalem, which has been the centre of provocation, clashes and attacks around Haram al Sharif, the “sacred enclosure” of mosques where the Temple once stood. Right-wing Jewish nationalist groups are claiming their right to go and pray there in an increasingly open manner; Muslims see this as an act of blatant provocation. After the attack against one the movement’s leaders a day or so ago - Rabbi Yehuda Glick, who has been campaigning to have the Temple rebuilt, in the place of the al Aqsa Mosque – Jerusalem has become the scene of non-stop clashes and attacks. On Wednesday, two Israelis were deliberately run over by a Palestinian at a light rail stop. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been trying to restore calm by repeating that there are no plans to make any changes to Haram al Sharif. But his words openly contradict what has been said by some members of parliament and representatives of his own government. They made some aggressive statements during a visit to the Esplanade in recent days.This extremely tense situation - which many have already described as the potential start to a new Intifada – is causing huge concern to the leaders of Jerusalem’s Christian communities. The text, which carries the signatures of the Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal and the Custos of the Holy Land, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, reads as follows: “We, the Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, wish to express our serious concern regarding response to recent activity on Haram al Sharif which has included both full closures and some limitation of access to Al Aqsa Mosque. These events have been provoked by acts of extremism which are becoming a phenomenon both here in the Holy Land and in the wider region.We condemn threats of changes to the status of the Holy Sites from wherever they may come. The Holy Sites need constant watchful protection so that reasonable access to them can be maintained according to the prevailing Status Quo of all three Abrahamic faiths. The existing agreed Status Quo governing these sites needs to be fully respected for the sake of the whole community. Any threat to its continuity and integrity could easily lead to unpredictable consequences which would be most unwelcome in the present delicate political climate.”The statement was published on the very day 5000 police agents were deployed throughout Jerusalem as it is feared fresh violence could break out during Friday prayers. Clashes are already taking place in the East part of the city. During a funeral service held this morning for one of the victims of the light rail incident, the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yitzhak Yosef spoke out against the actions of Jewish nationalists who have been going to the Esplanade, saying: “We must stop them. This is the only way to prevent the Israeli people whom shedding any more blood,” he said in bold terms. Yosef reiterated the theory put forward by the Orthodox Jews that praying on the Esplanade is a sacrilegious act. “It is inconceivable that lower ranking rabbis should be debating what Israel’s most important and authoritative rabbis have always said in relation to such issues,” he added.
