ISAIAH 14:12-14
12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer,(SATAN) son of the morning!(HEBREW-CRECENT MOON-ISLAM) how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.(AND 1/3RD OF THE ANGELS OF HEAVEN FELL WITH SATAN AND BECAME DEMONS)

JEREMIAH 14:14
14  Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

ACTS 20:29
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

2 CORINTHIANS 11:13
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

PHILLIPIANS 3:18
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

1 TIMOTHY 6:5
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

2 TIMOTHY 2:20
20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

2 PETER 2:1-2
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

MARK 7:6
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

LUKE 16:15
15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

TITUS 1:16
16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

MATTHEW 24:4-5,11,24-25
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many (MILLIONS) shall come in my name,(JESUS-I AM) saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.(MILLIONS)(THIS IS DEFINATELY THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT)
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.(CALIFORNIA THE NEW AGE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD-SO NO WONDER SAN FRANSICO IS THE SODOMITE RAINBOW GROUPERS CAPITAL OF THE EARTH ALSO).

1 TIMOTHY 4:1-2
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits,(NEW AGE MOVEMENT) and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;(NEW AGERS BELIEVE SATANS LIES OF NO SIN,POSSITIVE THINKING,PEACE,LOVE,JOY,UTOPIA)

MARK 13:22-23
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

2 TIMOTHY 3:13
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

DEUTORONOMY 18:10-12
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire,(OCCULT SACRIFICES) or that useth divination,(NEW AGER AND CRYSTALS ETC) divination n. The art or act of foretelling future events or revealing occult knowledge by means of augury or an alleged supernatural agency.) or an observer of times,(Meaning of observer. ... for sketching it. horoscope - Comes from Greek hora, hour, time, and skopos, observer.) or an enchanter,(The word enchant is derived from the Latin word incantare which refers to uttering an incantation or casting a spell). or a witch,(WITCH. Definition: [noun] a female sorcerer (SORCERY IN THE BIBLE IS DRUGS OR OCCULT ACTIVITY) or magician.)
11 Or a charmer,(charmer means a dealer in spells, especially one who, by binding certain knots, was supposed thereby to bind a curse or a blessing on its object.) or a consulter with familiar spirits,(function as mediums or psychics) or a wizard,(MALE WITCH-influence; a magical spell WITH WANDS) or a necromancer.(one seeking unto the dead.)
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

JUDE 10-13 (HERES FALSE PASTORS)
10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

MATTHEW 10:32-33
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me(JESUS) before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me (JESUS)(AND MY WORD THE BIBLE) before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

SV FALSE POPE FROM THE VATICAN

REVELATION 13:11-13
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth;(FALSE VATICAN POPE) and he had two horns like a lamb,(JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD) and he spake as a dragon.(HES SATANICALLY INSPIRED,HES A CHRISTIAN DEFECTOR FROM THE FAITH)
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

REVELATION 17:1-5,9,15-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

St. Egidio's 2013 International Meeting of Prayer for Peace
St. Egidio's 2013 International Meeting of Prayer for Peace
lisa palmieri billig rome In the 26th year of its international interreligious conferences to which leaders of the world’s major religions are invited as active, vocal participants, the Community of St. Egidio this year managed to gather together in Rome nearly 200 panelists from all areas of the globe. Attended by approximately 5000 people, the three day meeting entitled “The Courage to Hope”, with its 33 panels and its impressive final Peace ceremony on Rome’s Capitol Hill (Campidoglio), saw the largest Jewish participation to date.

Begun in 1987 with a first meeting in Rome aimed at furthering the ground-breaking tradition begun by John Paul II in 1986 when he called the world’s religious leaders to come to Assisi to pray for peace,   the St. Egidio Community annually synergizes the spiritual energies of these leaders in encounters held in different international cities, with a multitude of panel discussions on the most important issues of the day.  Religious leaders from the world’s trouble spots thus have opportunities to share eyewitness reports and in-depth analyses. At the opening ceremony,  Rabbi David Rosen, International Director of Interreligious Affairs for AJC  (the American Jewish Committee) invited St. Egidio to reconvene a multi-faith conference in Jerusalem to follow up on the one held there a decade ago.“Now, more than ever before St. Egidio can serve as an inspiration for politicians” said Rabbi Rosen, “as it sets an example by affirming the Divine Image in people from diverse religions and cultures.”
“In the Middle East in particular”, he holds, “religion must be part of the solution”.In all panels, the international religious representatives took stands against their own extremist factions and condemned the misuse of God’s Name to justify killing and war. It was in this interreligious consensus that many saw a glimmer of hope for the future. The Syrian conflict cast a dark shadow over discussions. A panel on the Middle East Crisis with political, media, diplomatic and religious experts from Italy and the Islamic and Christian Arab world, included Domenico Quirico, “La Stampa’s” correspondent taken captive in Syria and only recently released.Quirico and the other panelists agreed that the international community had waited too long to intervene to help the fledgling forces of democracy of the Arab spring, thus allowing Islamist extremist formations such as Al Qaeda to grow and gain strength. The desperate humanitarian situation in Syria and other Arab countries was described. Mohammad Sammak, a leader of the Christian-Arab dialogue in Lebanon stressed the impellent need to invest in education, pointing out that one third of the Arab world is illiterate, and more money was spent on beauty products than books.  Italian Ambassador Roberto Toscano referred to the “Arab Human Development Reports” to support these conclusions with statistics. Among the nearly 200 international panelists, over a dozen were Jewish leaders and rabbis from Italy, Israel, the U.S., Argentina, Germany and Belgium. They too called for religions to summon their highest spiritual resources to counter the wave of barbaric, evil acts sweeping all over the world today, many of which are committed in the name of religion. The Jewish representatives spoke on many topics.  They included “The Value of Life and Vulnerability” (Oded Wiener, Director General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel), “Religions respond to violence against Women”  and “The Suffering of Peoples and Paths to Peace” (Rabbi David Rosen), “Old Age as a Blessing” (Riccardo Di Segni, Chief Rabbi of Rome), “Latin America and Pope Francis (Rabbi Abraham Skorka, Buenos Aires, Argentina),” God Loves the Poor”, (Rabbi Israel Singer, Touro University, USA), “Poverty and the Environment: Eco-Sustainability”(Rabbi Shmuel Goldin, President of the Rabbinical Council of America), “The Power of Prayer throughout History”(Rabbi Avichai Apel, Dortmund Germany), “Hope Today” (Lisa Palmieri-Billig, AJC Liaison to the Holy See, Italy), “The Imperative Need of Family” (Riccardo Pacifici, President of the Rome Jewish Community), “God is Mercy” (Rabbi Elia Richetti, President of the Assembly of Rabbis of Italy), “Terror in the name of Religion” (Rabbi Joseph Levi, Chief Rabbi of Florence), “Is Violence Inevitable?” (Jakob Finci, President of the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina), “The Courage to Hope” (Sandro di Castro, President of B’nai B’rith, Italy) and finally, Rabbi David Brodman of Savyon, Israel, a Holocaust survivor whose heartfelt  talk at the Aula Magna of the Lateran University as a “Witness to Peace” to 3000 high school (liceo) students in two separate sessions, moved his young audience deeply.Rabbi Brodman, a white-bearded gentleman with a cane, accompanied everywhere by his 14 year old grand-daughter, Tamar, spoke of his early years as a deportee in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp. His memories reflected the sensibility and suffering of the small child he was then. Recently, he accompanied over 500 university student members of the Communities of Sant’Egidio in Eastern Europe to Auschwitz on a pilgrimage of “Young People against Racism and Anti-Semitism.”

“It is always painful to recall those events” Rabbi Brodman said, “but my friendship with the Community of Sant’Egidio persuaded me to take this step”.  His simple message of peace is contained in the sentence, “We must create a world without violence.”“So many young people came up to me after my conversation with them at the Lateran University” he said, “They told me ‘You have changed my life. Thank you!’  Some asked what they could do to accelerate the coming of the Messiah.  I told them they must work on changing this world, beginning  with their families.  Peace begins at home.” Similar statements on peace, forgiveness, and the importance of memory were delivered by another Holocaust survivor,  Rita Prigmore, a member of the Sinti Community in Germany.  She recalled the Shoah of the gypsies at the hands of Nazi Germany. “I always say to young people ‘You are not responsible for what happened, but you bear the responsibility of preventing that all this happen again.’ And quite simply, I tell them my story.”Her story, in brief, is that as a newborn child she and her twin sister were torn from their mother at birth by the Gestapo. Both were subjected to horrible medical experiments by Dr. Heyde, a disciple of Dr. Mengele. Her sister died as a result, and Rita still suffers their consequences. “I am shaken to the bottom of my heart at the growth of radical Right groups in many European countries” she says,  “and when I see gypsies insulted with the same words as in the past,  or when they are told that ‘the Third Reich forgot to gas you.’ ”“But I want to say to you that nothing can be built through hatred except for more hatred… I am convinced that only forgiveness can build a future, and hatred must be relegated to the past. The future can be built only through reciprocal understanding.  And reciprocal understanding is an active process: one must show interest in the other, speak to him, meet him and force oneself to understand him.”Oded Wiener, Director-General of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel  attended this annual St. Egidio  meeting for the tenth consecutive year.  In the course of these annual encounters, he has established contacts with many Muslim and Christian representatives from Arab countries.  “When you meet one another, face to face, things change”, he said.  “The other is no longer an unknown stranger.  This is the beginning of reciprocal understanding.”Rabbi Rosen remarked on the coincidence that the audience of the religious leaders with Pope Francis “who has generated openness and engagement with the other religions of the world”,  took place on September 30 – on the same day as the announcement of the forthcoming canonization on April 27 of John Paul II and John XXIII, “two great heroes of Jewish-Christian reconciliation.”

Israeli, Palestinian teams plan to intensify talks

Ramallah: MKs visit Abbas, who says nine months is enough time for a final status agreement

October 8, 2013, 12:38 am 0-The Times of Israel
Israeli and Palestinian officials held another round of negotiations in Jerusalem Monday, where they agreed to honor an American request to increase the pace of talks.“The intensity of the conversations went up,” a senior Palestinian official told Reuters, “and the sides agreed to extend the meetings to eight hours a day, and to increase their frequency. Within two months, they will need to see in Washington how the unavoidable gaps between the sides have been minimized.”“Up till now,” he said, ”we haven’t achieved anything.”
US Secretary of State John Kerry announced on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in late September that Israelis and Palestinians had agreed to intensify peace talks aimed at reaching a final status agreement. The secretary said that negotiators had engaged in seven rounds of bilateral talks in recent months, with a number of those meetings including US Special Envoy Martin Indyk. Also Monday, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas sounded an optimistic note in a Ramallah meeting with 12 MKs –11 from Labor and one from Hatnua — regarding peace talks.“The period of nine months [set aside for the current talks] is enough to reach an agreement,” Abbas said, “All the issues were discussed in the past, whether at Camp David, Taba, or with [former PM Ehud] Olmert. He emphasized that security cooperation with Israel was at an all-time high. “You all know, and the world knows, that cooperation on all issues, on a day-to-day basis, is at 100%. The reason is simple: we want a completely normal atmosphere between Israelis and Palestine.”The MKs were in Ramallah on a visit of the Knesset Caucus to Resolve the Arab-Israeli Conflict headed by MK Hilik Bar (Labor). The caucus’s previous meeting, which took place in the Knesset in late July, was joined by PA representatives and marked the first time the Palestinian flag was raised in Israel’s parliament. No Israeli flag was in evidence, however, during Monday’s Ramallah meeting.
The MKs were met in Ramallah by a group of senior Palestinian officials, including Abbas’s adviser Yasser Abed Rabo and presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh. On Sunday, speaking at the 20th anniversary ceremony of Bar-Ilan University’s Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu placed blame for the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict on Ramallah’s refusal to come to terms with Israel as a Jewish state.“The Palestinians must abandon their refusal to recognize the right of the Jewish people to have their national state,” he said.Netanyahu dismissed claims that Israel’s presence in the West Bank stood at the heart of the conflict, stating instead that as long as the Palestinians don’t internalize the Jewish state’s right to exist, there will not be peace.“In order for the process in which we find ourselves to be significant… in order for it to have a real chance of success,” he said, referring to the current rounds of negotiations begun this summer, “it’s necessary to hear the Palestinian leadership finally say that it recognizes the right of the Jewish people to a state of its own, which is the state of Israel.”“I hope that it shall be so, so that we can advance a real solution to the conflict,” continued Netanyahu. Also Sunday, Maariv reported that Israel and the Palestinian Authority have reached an impasse due to an Israeli refusal to discuss land-swap and border issues.According to an unnamed, senior foreign diplomat with knowledge of the discussions, during the latest round of talks the Israeli team of Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Netanyahu adviser Yitzhak Molcho made it clear to the Palestinians that Israel intends to retain some of the settlement blocs as part of a final agreement, but refused to name which areas or discuss possible compensation to the Palestinians for the territory to be annexed.Havig Rettig Gur and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

PROVERBS 31:10-31
10  Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
11  The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12  She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
13  She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14  She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15  She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16  She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
17  She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18  She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19  She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
20  She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
21  She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22  She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23  Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
24  She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25  Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26  She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27  She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28  Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29  Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

The Women of the Wall agreed in principle to transfer its monthly prayer services to a newly built egalitarian plaza and withdraw its demand to hold services in the women’s section of the Western Wall. However, the group, which made the decision during a board meeting Sunday night, stated that it would only do so once all of its demands were met, among them for funding equal to the traditional prayer sites and the creation of a continuous plaza at the Wall to connect them all.In a statement on the group’s website, Women of the Wall chair Anat Hoffman stated that the decision was not an easy one, but that as “agents of change, we see before us the duty to consider this new strategy.”“We have to rise above dispute in order to build the future that we wish for the future generations of our daughters and granddaughters,” she said. The statement concluded by noting that change and acceptance were required not only of the group, but also of Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Western Wall’s rabbi. It said that Rabinovitch would have to ease his grip on the holy site and make it a place where members of all the streams of Judaism can pray freely. The group’s demands are already known to Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky, who outlined a proposal in April to build an egalitarian prayer plaza in order to end the ongoing feud between the pluralistic prayer group and Orthodox groups. The Women of the Wall were pressured by the Conservative movement to be open to Sharansky’s proposal following the construction of the egalitarian plaza in August. When the plaza was initially built, Hoffman dismissed it as a “sunbathing deck,” and said that the organization would not accept a “second-rate Wall for second-rate Jews.”The group is due to submit a position paper in the upcoming days to a committee appointed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resolve the ongoing dispute.

New Song: 'Boycott Israel, If You Think That's Just'

Jewish rapper Ari Lesser makes "Boycott Israel" music video viral about the wrongs of other nations violating human rights.-By Kochava Rozenbaum-First Publish: 10/8/2013, 1:42 AM-Israelnationalnews

Amid the constant bashing of Israel on the internet and other media platforms, Jewish musician and rapper Ari Lesser has produced a video to highlight the "double standard" which singles-out the Jewish State.
The chorus says it all: "Boycott Israel, if you think that's just, but unless you have a double standard you must, also boycott the rest of the nations with allegations of human rights violations."The American-born and now Tzfat based MC admitted that the 65-year-old country is sometimes "not perfect," and yet the State of Israel is, by comparison, better than the nations which kidnap, torture, oppress, and murder its civilians.
Lesser's message about honest, pro-Israel reporting has sparked the support of many from across the globe. One response came from a Youtube user called MCJustiz who wrote: "As a born Muslim I am with you 100%. When people try and tell me to boycott Israel I normally have long Facebook rants about some of the countries you mentioned, now I can just post a link to this great song."

Discordant Shas faces possible schism after Yosef’s death

The peerless spiritual leader held together a fractured party; the feuding politicians he left behind may be unable to to do the same

October 7, 2013, 11:54 pm 0-The Times of Israel
It is hard to exaggerate the influence on Israeli religion, politics and public life of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, who died Monday at the age of 93. For millions of Israelis – some 800,000 of whom attended his funeral in Jerusalem Monday night – Yosef was the embodiment of religious piety, learning and Sephardi pride. His religious rulings, famously composed of long compendia of past rabbinic opinions, showcased his vast, encyclopedic knowledge of Jewish law. His was a genius matched by few living Jews. And he used that genius to correct a historic wrong: the shunting aside of Sephardi Jewish immigrants in the early years of the Jewish state. Born into an Iraqi Jewish family, Yosef took great pains throughout his career to appeal to Sephardic Jewish communities that were starkly different from his, successfully uniting religious Yemenites, Moroccans, Algerians, Egyptians and others both in religious doctrine and, from the 1980s onward, under the banner of the Shas party.Political founder, ethnic unifier, unparalleled legal genius, religious mentor to a generation of successful Sephardic politicians, Maran — or “master” as his followers called him — was the political and spiritual heart of the Shas movement. In that sense, his passing marks the fading of an age. No single Israeli was more central to the reclaimed pride of Sephardic Jewry in a state founded by a narrow Ashkenazi elite. And, perhaps, no single Israeli generated more political opposition than the politician-rabbi whose electoral power was founded on ethnic division and resentment. His passing also marks a political crisis for the movement he founded. Shas’s leadership, both the political and the religious, is divided into two opposing factions: supporters of former party chief MK Eli Yishai and those of the current leader MK Aryeh Deri. The divide is also rabbinic: Yishai supports former chief rabbi Shlomo Amar to replace Yosef as Shas’s spiritual and political supreme leader, whereas Deri seeks an heir either in Yosef’s son, the current Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, or in Rabbi Shalom Cohen, head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva and a member of Shas’s four-member Council of Torah Sages. With the old master who kept them united in shared allegiance to him now gone, the party faces the very real danger of splitting along that factional divide. The two camps – Yishai-Amar and Deri-Yosef – have a history of bad blood between them.Deri was the political genius behind Shas’s rapid rise to power in the 1980s. He was Israel’s interior minister at the tender age of 29, a role in which he garnered praise from unexpected quarters, including legendary Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kolek, a Labor Party man who nevertheless called Shas’s first interior minister the most effective Israel had ever had.Deri’s ascent was followed by an abrupt fall when he was convicted of bribery in 2000 and sentenced to three years in prison. He announced his return to politics in mid-2011 and managed to obtain Ovadia Yosef’s blessing to lead Shas once again in October 2012, unceremoniously ousting Yishai as party leader ahead of the January 2013 national elections.Deri’s return from the political desert was swift and comprehensive. Last year, he worked hard to stymie the efforts of then-chief rabbi Shlomo Amar to be reelected to a second 10-year term. Amar was too closely identified with Yishai, he felt. Deri preferred Ovadia Yosef’s son, Yitzhak, who was eventually elected chief rabbi in July 2013.Deri’s closest confidante, MK Ariel Atias, was placed third on the party list, ensuring his appointment as Knesset faction chair in charge of the party’s legislative agenda. It was a rapid takeover, made possible by the all-important support of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef. Now, all eyes are on Shas’s top leaders to see if the party’s new leadership can survive the old master’s death. The challenge to Deri’s power could come quickly. Deri is unlikely to be unseated as party chairman by Shas’s Council of Torah Sages so soon after Ovadia Yosef himself approved his appointment. But Yishai, Deri’s political nemesis, may not need to oust him in order to get out from under his yoke.By law, a group of MKs can split from their current party and still receive public campaign financing if they take with them at least one-third of the MKs of the party they are leaving. Eli Yishai enjoys the support of several Shas MKs, including Avraham Michaeli and Yaakov Margi. MKs David Azulai and Meshulam Nahari are thought to be wavering between the camps. The loyalty of several others is either unknown or in flux. In fact, of eleven Shas MKs in the current Knesset, Deri can count with absolute surety only on himself and Atias. And since Yishai, bristling under the thumb of his hated adversary, only needs three additional MKs to establish his own financially viable party overnight, the temptation to walk away from Shas may be hard to resist.Hundreds of thousands of Israelis lost a spiritual guide on Monday. The party he founded lost something more. The party’s very raison d’etre was in its service to Maran. Shas’s leaders will now find themselves faced with two uneasy choices: to unite in fashioning a post-Ovadia party out of the political shell he left behind, or to splinter away into more comfortable fragments destined for political oblivion.

US budget trouble hits EU trade talks

Today @ 09:28-OCT 8,13
BRUSSELS - Talks between the EU and US on a landmark trade deal have been cancelled this week as a result of the continuing government shutdown in Washington DC.US trade officials were expected to arrive in Brussels on Monday (7 October) for the second round of negotiations on a proposed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Plan (TTIP) with talks planned to last all week.As yet there are no indications of when the talks will be rescheduled. The US government was forced into a partial shut-down last week, after Democrats and Republicans in Congress failed to reach a deal on the country's budget.Republicans are refusing to adopt new spending plans unless President Obama's healthcare reforms are blocked or are stripped of funding, three years after the bill was adopted in Congress.Only essential government functions will take place until the two parties reach an agreement with thousands of state employees going without pay.
However, a deal needs to be reached by 17 October, the date when the US is due to default on its debt repayments.Obama also scrapped plans to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in Bali, the other key priority of US trade policy, although US Trade Representative Michael Froman was present.
Speaking with Bloomberg television on Sunday (6 October), Froman said that there could be little progress in trade negotiations until the end of the shut-down.“We’ve had to pull back on our negotiations, we’ve had to stop some of our enforcement efforts, we’re not able to monitor a lot of our existing agreements,” he said.
The cancellation of the talks will also come as a blow to EU officials, particularly the commission's trade chief, Karel de Gucht, who has set an ambitious deadline - next year - for concluding the talks. The EU executive believes that a trade deal harmonising technical and regulatory standards, as well as scrapping remaining tariff barriers, could be worth up to 1 percent of GDP.In a statement released Friday (4 October), de Gucht described the move as “unfortunate” but did not undermine the “clear commitment of the EU and the US to the TTIP process.”“It in no way distracts us from our overall aim of achieving an ambitious trade and investment deal between Europe and the US,” he added. For her part, Marietje Schaake, a Dutch MEP on the Parliament's US delegation, called on the two sides to continue talks “via digital means” until the US side could re-open formal negotiations.

Assad Places War Jets in Iran for Safety

German intelligence agents say Syrian jets are parked in Iran; Iran sent elite troops to support Assad’s forces.-By Kochava Rozenbaum-First Publish: 10/8/2013, 2:44 AM-Israelnationalnews

Iran has given permission to Bashar Assad's regime to keep his war planes in their territory to protect them from possible attack, according to a report by the German newspaper, Der Spiegel.According to the report, marked "classified," Iran and Syria had signed an agreement a while back permitting Assad to transfer a large part of his air force to Iran, taking back the aircraft when he needed them. The German intelligence paper reportedly said Iran had also sent elite troops from its Revolutionary Guard to support the forces of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. The intelligence report also said a source had reported that a Syria-Iran military deal from November 2012 allowed Assad “to station large parts of his air force on safe Iranian territory and to use them when needed,” said Spiegel Online. The weekly news magazine published an interview with Assad in which he again denied responsibility for deadly chemical weapons attacks in late August, accusing rebels whom he labels terrorists of being behind them.“We have not used chemical weapons. This is wrong,” Assad is quoted as saying. “And so is the picture you’re drawing of me of someone who kills his own people.”Assad also suggested Germany could play a mediator role in ending the bloody conflict that has killed more than 100,000 people in over two years.Germany’s outgoing Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, during an Afghanistan visit, rejected the idea, saying Berlin supports UN special envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, Spiegel Online reported.

Attacks surge in Egypt, a day after deadly clashes

Nine security personnel are dead after strikes that blur the lines between a wave of Islamist protests and an insurgency previously confined to Sinai

October 8, 2013, 2:42 am 0-The Times of Israel
CAIRO (AP) — A string of attacks killed nine members of Egypt’s security and military forces and hit the country’s main satellite communications station Monday, in an apparent retaliation by Islamic militants a day after more than 50 supporters of the ousted president were killed in clashes with police. The attacks show a dangerous expansion of targets, including the first strike against civilian infrastructure in the heart of the capital. They also blur the lines between the wave of Islamist protests against the military ouster of President Mohammed Morsi, and an insurgency that had been previously been largely confined to the northern Sinai Peninsula. It is also likely to harden positions of the military-backed government and its opponents, making reconciliation more difficult.“We are at war with them,” said Mohammed Ibrahim, the country’s interior minister in charge of security forces, pointing to militant groups. He suggested the surge in attacks, particularly the targeting of the satellite station— which left a minor damage on one of the dishes — was in retaliation for the government crackdown on Sunday’s protests.“This is an attempt to prove they are still around and are not broken,” he told The Associated Press, without specifying which groups are behind the attacks. “They also aim to confuse, to distract” security forces. In another development Monday likely to give momentum to the government crackdown on Islamists, a panel of judges recommended the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood’s political party, the Freedom and Justice Party, which was registered months after the 2011 ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak. The judges’ recommendation said the party represents an outlawed group. The recommendations will be delivered to a Cairo court reviewing a case demanding the party’s dissolution on Oct. 19.Another court had already ordered a ban on the Brotherhood’s activities, and froze its assets, a decision currently reviewed by a government appointed committee amid legal challenges from group members.Ashraf Badreddin, a member of the FJP, said authorities had already shut down offices of the party long before a court decision, telling Doha-based satellite broadcaster Al-Jazeera Mubasher Masr that the recommendation was “politicized.”At least 2,000 of the group’s leading and mid-level members have been detained, including Morsi, and head of the FJP, Saad el-Katatni. Most of them will face trial on charges that range from murder and inciting violence to abuse of power and conspiring with foreign powers. Hundreds others died in a violent crackdown on protests and sit-ins held by Morsi supporters.Authorities accuse pro-Morsi supporters of seeking to create chaos to discredit the new government. The government declared it is waging a war against terrorism.Pro-Morsi supporters deny they resort to violence.Ahmed Mostafa, a Brotherhood student leader, said there are plans to hold rallies at universities this week to denounce the killings and the military leaders, saying authorities are engaged in a campaign to pull his group and supporters toward violence, or armed confrontation. There are also calls for protest in Cairo’s central Tahrir Square.
He dismissed accusations that Islamists are behind the surge in attacks.“We reaffirm that peacefulness of our actions is stronger than weapons,” he said. Such attacks, he said, “may be fabrications by intelligence agencies to justify their campaign against (us).”A suicide bomber struck a security headquarters in the town of el-Tor, in southern Sinai, earlier Monday, killing three policemen, wounding 55 others, and damaging the building. Southern Sinai is famous for its beach resorts such as Sharm el-Sheikh and has been generally spared the violence of the northern tip of the peninsula in the past six years. Attacks there in 2005 and 2006 left dozens, including tourists, dead.Near-daily attacks against security forces and soldiers in the volatile northern Sinai Peninsula have increasingly resembled a full-fledged insurgency, especially in the three months since the ouster of Morsi. Ibrahim said counter-insurgency operations there have pushed militants into neighboring southern Sinai. The body parts of the suicide bomber in el-Tor are still being analyzed to determine who was behind the attack, Ibrahim said.In another attack, masked gunmen pulled alongside a pickup truck full of troops on patrol near the Suez Canal and opened fire, killing six soldiers, security officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief reporters. And in a brazen targeting of a civilian infrastructure, gunmen believed to be hiding in nearby buildings fired a projectile into the compound housing the satellite dishes just before dawn, leaving a hole in one but causing no disruption of communications. Earlier, security officials said they believed rocket-propelled grenades were used in the attack, but Ibrahim said it was unlikely. The surge in violence in the aftermath of the coup has raised questions about whether extremist sympathizers of Morsi, and others within his Brotherhood group, are using such attacks to bargain with authorities for a political goal, said political science professor Gamal Abdel-Gawad.
On the other hand, he said: “The government in Egypt is more prepared to deal with terrorism rather than with political instability.“This is a security apparatus that has long experience in dealing with terrorism,” he said in reference to a wave of terror attacks in the late 1980s and 1990s that targeted Egypt’s security forces, liberal figures, politicians, Christians, and tourist resorts. The violence is certain to set back efforts by the interim, military-backed government to revive the economy, especially the vital tourism sector, and bring order to the streets of Cairo, where crime and lawlessness have been rife.In a sign of increased nervousness, security measures were heightened at Cairo International Airport Monday, with authorities using explosives detectors and dogs to inspect vehicles.Abdel-Gawad said the targeting of the communications center appeared aimed at “paralyzing” symbols of the modern state by disrupting communications, but added that it was too early to say whether this is a new trend.Abdel-Gawad said militants now have more capabilities than before. This time around also, “there are more people willing to grant legitimacy to terrorist activities because of the political developments,” he said.

Erdogan calls Assad a ‘terrorist,’ blasts Kerry

Turkish PM’s comments come after Syrian president said he was a liar ‘responsible for the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians’

October 7, 2013, 11:01 pm 0-The Times of Israel
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan leveled scathing criticism at Syrian President Bashar Assad, calling him a terrorist who is no longer a politician.“I don’t regard Bashar Assad as a politician anymore. He’s a terrorist carrying out state terrorism. A person who killed 110,000 of his people is a terrorist. There’s state terrorism — I’m speaking frankly,” Erdogan said at a press conference Sunday after a meeting with India’s president, Hurriyet reported. “I’m having difficulty understanding those in the Turkish media who defend this.”Erdogan has been one of Assad’s harshest critics since Syria’s uprising erupted in March 2011. On Monday he also denounced US Secretary of State John Kerry for praising Syria’s compliance with the international community in relinquishing its chemical weapons.“You are a human being and me, too,” said Erdogan. “How can we appreciate the behavior of a person who killed 110,000 people, I ask you. The result of either chemical or other types of weapons is death. Then how can we appreciate this? I cannot imagine a person who appreciates this. I don’t think Mr. Kerry made such a statement. If he made it, he would be contradicting himself.”Erdogan’s comments came only days after his country was harshly criticized by Assad. In an interview with Turkey’s private Halk TV last Thursday, the Syrian president warned that Ankara would pay “a high price” for allowing foreign fighters to enter Syria from its territory and join rebel forces. Assad also called Erdogan a liar, and accused him of supporting terrorists.Assad made no mention of his government’s role in the civil war that has killed at least 100,000 people so far, instead blaming foreign fighters and governments, including Turkey’s, for the bloodshed.“This government, represented by Erdogan, is responsible for the blood of tens of thousands of Syrians, and is responsible for the destruction of Syria’s infrastructure,” Assad said. It is also “responsible for endangering security of the region, not only Syria.”
“You cannot hide terrorists in your pocket. They are like a scorpion, which will eventually sting you,” Assad added, saying Muslim extremists from more than 80 countries are coming to Syria by sneaking across the border with Turkey.Erdogan has long advocated the removal of Assad from power. On August 31, the Turkish leader said a limited military response to the reported use of chemical weapons by Assad’s regime was not enough, and any kind of intervention should aim to topple him.“It can’t be a 24 hours hit-and-run,” Erdogan told reporters at the presidential palace in Ankara. “What matters is stopping the bloodshed in Syria and weakening the regime to the point where it gives up.”There are currently some 500,000 Syrian refugees living in Turkey. Erdogan, a former ally of the Syrian president, turned against him several months after the Syrian conflict began in March 2011.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
