U.S. Army Trains to Take On Tea Party

On April 17, the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, reported on a military exercise dubbed Mangudai, named after the special forces of Genghis Khan’s Mongol army who could fight for days without food or sleep. The Kentucky newspaper portrayed the exercise as an effort to train soldiers to battle the Taliban in Afghanistan.Designed to test the limits of officers’ physical, mental and emotional endurance, the emerging Army exercise offered a revealing window onto modern combat training in the era of Iraq and Afghanistan,Chris Kenning wrote for the newspaper. Over three days last week, participants had to crawl on their bellies under real machine-gun fire, shimmy commando-style over a single rope high in the air and march for more than 22 miles through forests.But according to information received by The Patriot Post blog, there is another aspect to the military exercises not reported by local media.This week, I was contacted by a number of military personnel, enlisted and officer ranks, who expressed concern about a military exercise underway at Ft. Knox, the U.S. Bullion Depository. As with most such exercises, the Ft. Knox alert occurred in stages, as if real time intelligence was being provided at various intervals,writes Mark Alexander.Alexander cites an intel advisory issued on Friday, April 23, 2010, that identifies terrorist threat adversaries as Local Militia Groups / Anti-Government Protesters / TEA Party (see image below).In short, the military was training in Kentucky to take on mythical militias — no word if they were of the FBI-created variety — and remarkably the non-violent Tea Party movement.

Anti-Government – Health Care Protesters have stated that they would join the TEA Party as a sign of solidarity during a protest at Fort Knox. The Tea Party groups are armed, have combative training and some are former Military Snipers. Some may have explosives training / experience,according to the intel report.An intel report update, dated Monday, 26 April 2010, noted that a rally at the Militia compound occurred,and Viable threats … have been made… Many members were extremely agitated at what they referred to as Government intervention and over taxation in their lives. Alcohol use fanned the flames.Many military grade firearms were openly carried. An ad hoc shoot the government agent event was held with prizes (alcohol) given for the best shot placement.In addition to being drunkards, the report describes the Tea Party as bomb-throwers. Components of bomb making are reported to have been on the site. Some members have criminal records relating to explosive and weapons violations.In response to the this immediate threat,the military established concentration camps for mass arrests.QRF, short for the Quick Reaction Force of the 16th Cavalry Regiment and the 194th Armored Brigade were placed on two hour recall. The 26 April order gives specific instructions for the 5-15 CAV (a 16th Cavalry battalion) to have weapons, ammo, vehicles and communications at ready, and it places the other 2,200 members of the units on two-hour recall. In other words, these orders are to gear up for defending Ft. Knox against Tea Party folks and their co-conspirators who oppose nationalization of our health care sector,writes Alexander.

Military officers and enlisted personnel told Alexander about their concerns:As one put it, the exercise misrepresents freedom loving Americans as drunken, violent racists — the opponents of Obama’s policies have been made the enemy of the U.S. Army.They were equally concerned that command staff at Ft. Knox had signed off on this exercise, noting, it has been issued and owned by field grade officers who lead our battalions and brigades, which is to say many Lieutenant Colonels saw this order before it was implemented.In fact, we can assume this exercise was orchestrated at the highest levels in the Pentagon. Lieutenant Colonels merely carry out orders.In July, 2009, Infowars reported on a Missouri National Guard unit out of Camp Crowder engaged in a training exercise designed to take on a fictitious militant group. An earlier exercise in the Black Hills of South Dakota trained soldiers to confront an insurgent group with a reputation for harassing convoys with ambushes and improvised explosive devices.Adding the Tea Party to the list of insurgents is a new and especially surreal development, but hardly an unexpected one considering the fear of the establishment to this growing political movement.A poll conducted earlier this month found supporters of the Tea Party to be primarily white, male, married and older than 45.Of the 18 percent of Americans who identified themselves as supporters, 20 percent, or 4 percent of the general public, said they had given money or attended a Tea Party event, or both. These activists were more likely than supporters generally to describe themselves as very conservative and had more negative views about the economy and Mr. Obama. They were more angry with Washington and intense in their desires for a smaller federal government and deficit,” the New York Times reported.

They are not, as the DHS and the Southern Poverty Law Center would have it, disgruntled returning veterans, white supremacists, and violent militia members who hate Obama because of his skin color.Over the last several months the government and corporate media have endeavored to portray this demographic as potentially violent and has fallaciously connected it to white supremacists and a mythical militia movement that is supposedly gearing up to attack the government.If we are to believe the above report, the U.S. military is preparing to attack Tea Party supporters. FORT KNOX, Ky. — After two days and nights of carrying heavy packs up steep hills, fighting off midnight insurgent attacks and lugging wounded comrades through bone-chilling rains, 1st Sgt. James McWhorter crouched in the woods preparing to assault a Taliban-held Afghan village.Islamic calls to prayer blared from loudspeakers as McWhorter — exhausted from two days with almost no sleep or food — gave silent hand commands to his squad, urging them out of the woods and around a hail of fire from a jumble of buildings.Go, go, go! he yelled, as a dozen U.S. soldiers flooded the village, shooting defenders with paintballs and securing a fake cache of Taliban weapons.For more than 40 non-commissioned officers at Fort Knox, the assault marked the end of an unusually extreme, 57-hour combat-training endurance exercise called Mangudai, named after the special forces of Genghis Khan's Mongol army who could fight for days without food or sleep.Designed to test the limits of officers' physical, mental and emotional endurance, the emerging Army exercise offered a revealing window onto modern combat training in the era of Iraq and Afghanistan.If you're fighting a hardened enemy like Al Qaeda, you have to learn to be even tougher and harder,said Sgt. Major John Wayne Troxell, a veteran Stryker Brigade commander who based the training exercise on his own Army Ranger training.Pain and agony helps you prepare.

Over three days last week, participants had to crawl on their bellies under real machine-gun fire, shimmy commando-style over a single rope high in the air and march for more than 22 miles through forests.They rappelled off towers, fought through a bayonet course, coped with role-playing Iraqi guides, navigated roadside bombs and endured ear-splitting bomb attacks — never knowing what would come next.They were allowed only a few hours of sleep, one full food ration and no tobacco or caffeine. As the exercise wore on, their feet blistered, muscles failed, minds faltered, tempers flared and four of the original 46 participants dropped out.Near the end, when the exhausted soldiers were offered foul-smelling rice balls made with wet cat food, some barely hesitated.

Organizers said they learn more about participants in the high-stress, exhaustion-induced training than any other environment. How they perform can factor into promotions, while the bonds formed through suffering can strengthen units, organizers said.You can't hide weaknesses,Troxell said, whose own war experience includes heading a 3,500-strong brigade that saw 54 killed and 500 wounded in Iraq.
Pushed to their limits It all began at 4:30 a.m. last Wednesday on a Fort Knox parking lot filled with soldiers lugging 60-pound packs, combat rifles and helmets.

Most were senior enlisted, career sergeants in their 30s. Nearly all had been to Iraq and Afghanistan several times. There were a handful of women, some desk workers, an Army band member and a visiting Serbian soldier.First Sgt. Gene Siler, whose 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry combat team was recently moved to Fort Knox from Fort Hood, Texas, as part of the military's base-realignment program, was among those set to head to Afghanistan later this year for his fourth tour.This is what a lot of us will be going through, so it's good training, even though it's pretty intense,he said as he shouldered a heavy machine gun and stuffed a Meal-Ready-to-Eat ration into his rucksack.Then orders came in: Clear a road harassed by the Taliban militia.Jumping into heavy Army transports, they were driven to a wooded area where Hamad,a soldier dressed in an Islamic head scarf and long Arabic shirt, waited nervously. Hamad drew a map in the dirt with a stick and would only say good,bad,boom and hamad house.Soon they were creeping through the forest and along a trail, avoiding roadside bombs, when Hamad ran off yelling danger, Hamad family! Atop a nearby hill, gunfire and explosions suddenly erupted, resulting in two wounded — a Taliban member and a U.S. soldier, who they carried through the woods on a stretcher.Remember, his guts are hanging out! Troxell yelled at the medics.

Quickly bundled onto trucks, the group then arrived at a four-story rappelling tower. At one point, Sgt. Carolyn Harvey, an administrator sergeant, stood on the edge, afraid to rappel back down the ropes. Others urged her on.I don't want to jump, she said, before finally disappearing over the edge.Later, with the sky darkening and heavy rain predicted, the tired soldiers marched through the woods to establish a combat outpost, a replica base complete with barbed wire, defensive towers and tents. There, they quickly came under attack from soldiers acting as insurgents. They fired back, shouting orders and scrambling to secure the area.

Afterward, soldiers passed a few minutes of down time talking and eating fortified, processed cheese spread onto slabs of fortified bread.They needed the energy, because soon they were at a special range, crawling for 300 meters on their bellies in the dark under live machine-gun fire and barbed wire to simulate a night infiltration. Deafening bombs exploded while loudspeakers blasted Arabic music.
Oh man, I'm flashing back to Iraq, Tagalicud said.Afterward, a solider said a foot injury meant he couldn't do the miles-long march back. Troxell gruffly ejected him from the entire event.It's like ranger school,he said.The only honorable way to get out is to graduate.

Exhaustion sets in
Two short hours of sleep came and went in tents battered by midnight wind and rain.
Then the group piled into the back of Stryker armored vehicles, arriving deep in the woods for a simulation mission to retrieve a downed pilot. Repelling yet another ambush, they hauled the wounded pilots and M-1 tank rounds for miles through the woods.As time wore on, exhaustion took a toll. Confusion and disorder increased.
Hiking up and down steep, rain-soaked hills, Metheny and Master Sgt. Carl Parker took nearly 20 minutes trying to remember how many hills they'd crested and what time it was.Sitting in the rain, 28-year-old Sgt. Amanda Judd, originally from Saipan near Guam, said she'd deployed three times but still struggled to finish events such as carrying 40-pound water cans through steep forest hills that were more like cliffs in the middle of the night.It's really hard. You're just moving all day, all night,she said.I'm so sore I can barely move.But on Friday afternoon, with some covered in painful paintball welts from enemy fire, their training was finally complete.It was just brutal, but it was rewarding, Siler said.You could see people's confidence building with each new challenge.Judd was confident, despite her feeling like she'd been hit by a bus.Most of us are decision makers, said 1st Sgt. (Turns out, he was a Leftwing nut.)In fact, Americans who attend Tea Party rallies are from all walks of life, as noted in the Patriot Declaration, Patriots who are peacefully and constitutionally petitioning their government for redress.As I noted in my tax-day essay, Tea Parties are not a call for revolution but for restoration -- a call to undertake whatever measures are dictated by prudence and necessity to restore constitutional Rule of Law.

However, Obama's words do have consequences.This week, I was contacted by a number of civilian and military personnel (enlisted and officer ranks) who expressed concern about a military exercise underway at Ft. Knox, the U.S. Bullion Depository. (For the record, I called Ft. Knox security for an official comment and received the standard reply: We are not authorized to discuss this exercise.)As with most such exercises, the Ft. Knox alert occurred in stages, as if real time intelligence was being provided at various intervals. The first intel advisory was issued on Friday, 23 April 2010, and identifies the terrorist threat adversaries as "Local Militia Groups / Anti-Government Protesters / TEA Party.

You read that right: TEA Party!

The alert states that plans for the demonstration may have been interrupted by Federal and local law enforcement raids on a White Supremacists Organization, but TEA Party organizers have stated that they will protest at the Gold Vault at a future date.Further, the intel advisory states, Anti-Government - Health Care Protesters have stated that they would join the TEA Party as a sign of solidarity.In accordance with the exercise, Ft. Knox post security is placed on high alert because, these groups are armed, have combative training and some are former Military Snipers. Some may have explosives training / experience,and a rally at their compound / training area is scheduled.Another intel update was issued on Monday, 26 April 2010, noting that the rally at the Militia compound occurred, and Viable threats ... have been made.The intel on the rally notes, Many members were extremely agitated at what they referred to as Government intervention and over taxation in their lives. Alcohol use fanned the flames.Many military grade firearms were openly carried. An ad hoc shoot the government agent event was held with prizes (alcohol) given for the best shot placement.The report states further, Components of bomb making are reported to have been on the site. Some members have criminal records relating to explosive and weapons violations.In response to the immediate threat,the exercise stipulates,local detention centers are being made ready for mass arrests.Both the QRF I and QRF II are placed on two hour recall, and the 5-15 CAV was ordered to draw weapons from holder and store in most available arms room, and coordinate with MASA for immediate ammunition draw; have equipment readied for immediate use, i.e. vehicles staged and loaded IAW 5-15 CAV SOP; LMR's charged.QRF refers to Quick Reaction Force. QRF I is the 16th Cavalry Regiment. QRF II is the 194th Armored Brigade.

The 26 April order gives specific instructions for the 5-15 CAV (a 16th Cavalry battalion) to have weapons, ammo, vehicles and communications at ready, and it places the other 2,200 members of the units on two-hour recall. In other words, these orders are to gear up for defending Ft. Knox against Tea Party folks and their co-conspirators who oppose nationalization of our health care sector.Now, for almost 30 years I have participated in the development and implementation of small and large scale military exercises within the U.S. and around the world.Such exercises are critical to the readiness of our forces, and the standard for the real time intel reports in these drills requires thinly veiled references to assets of existing or collateral threat vectors such as communist regimes such as China and real terrorist networks such as al-Qa'ida, etc.Perhaps the writers of such exercises today should focus on response plans for, say, an Islamic terrorist who attacks a post. Knox exercise is not only amateurish in its construct, but also sets an ominous political precedent.The military officers and enlisted personnel with whom I spoke are all dedicated uniformed Patriots who are loyal, first and foremost, to their oath to support and defend our Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.Their concerns about this exercise mirrored my own. As one put it, the exercise misrepresents freedom loving Americans as drunken, violent racists -- the opponents of Obama's policies have been made the enemy of the U.S. Army.They were equally concerned that command staff at Ft. Knox had signed off on this exercise, noting, it has been issued and owned by field grade officers who lead our battalions and brigades, which is to say many Lieutenant Colonels saw this order before it was implemented.

It's not likely that Ft. Knox Commanding General James Milano or Deputy Commander Col. David Teeples, or even the regimental and brigade commanders for the 16th Cav and 194th AB, actually read the exercise scenario, but that doesn't absolve responsibility for such an egregious example of political exploitation of U.S. forces.One officer insisted, The American people should require greater accountability of their commissioned officers, that they abide by their oath and never allow politically motivated propaganda like this exercise on any post or base again.Another observed, Whether this is complacency by officers who do not see such orders as a problem, or worse, officers who recognize the problem but do not insist the orders are changed, this is a serious problem. We are discussing the training of American citizen soldiers in the use of potentially deadly force against a specific group of political dissenters. There is never a time in an officer's career in which he does not have a duty to apply critical thought to the orders he is given and asked to give. It is my opinion that any officer that has allowed these orders to persist, to reach the level of junior officers and soldiers, has demonstrated a lack of judgment or apathy towards what his duty requires of him. Either way, we should demand more of the commissioned officers, who we as a nation empower to lead our sons and daughters into battle.Indeed, and at best, the blatant malfeasance on the part of the individuals who composed this exercise reflects poorly on the uniformed services.The antidote to this patent misrepresentation of peaceable Patriots is to expose it with the Light of Truth. The Missouri National Guard is training to engage in combat with militia groups, according to the News Tribune.During the battalion’s annual training exercise, eight members of the Jefferson City-based unit, acting as a fictitious militant group, attempted to disrupt the battalion’s operations through attacks and harassment. The battalion’s other two units, the Kansas City-based 205th Area Support Medical Company, and the Springfieldbased 206th Area Support Medical Company, fended off the attacks while performing their medical duties,the newspaper reported on June 30.

The civilians could be working with the insurgent group or could simply have a legitimate complaint,Allen writes.The two exercises serve as prime examples of an orchestrated attempt by the government to train soldiers to militarily confront domestic militia groups.In April, a leaked DHS report on rightwing extremism said right-wing militias will recruit veterans returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.DHS/I&A assesses that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat,the report claims.These skills and knowledge have the potential to boost the capabilities of extremists — including lone wolves or small terrorist cells — to carry out violence.The corporate media hyped the supposed threat posed by lone wolves after white supremacist and probable government operative James von Brunn allegedly attacked the Holocaust museum in Washington. The lone wolf is what concerns the Washington field office, what concerns the FBI the most,John Perren, head of the counterterrorism branch at the FBI’s Washington field office, told the Associated Press.

After Von Brunn’s brutal attack, the corporate media shill and government disinfo operative Glenn Beck attempted to link 9/11 truth activists to the deranged accused killer. The corporate media has attempted to link truth activists and patriots to the Von Brunn incident and an earlier one in Pittsburgh.A report produced by the Missouri State Police, entitled The Modern Militia Movement,specifically characterizes constitutionalists and Ron Paul supporters as domestic terrorists. Red flags outlined in the document include political bumper stickers such as those for U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, talk of conspiracy theories such as the plan for a mega-highway from Canada to Mexico and possession of subversive literature,the Missouri Information Analysis Center report states.In April, the Maryland National Guard was put on alert in anticipation of Tea Party protests, thus revealing that the government considers constitutional activists to be insurgents and militants.In March, the United States Army Reserve Command published a Force Protection Advisory recommending situational awareness and mitigation measures in response to End the Fed protests. On November 22, 2008, Alex Jones led a rally at the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas Texas. The Dallas protest is specifically mentioned in the official Army document. Ron Paul’s brother was also in attendance. The event was monitored by the Pentagon.Defense Secretary Robert Gates has recommended merging the National Guard into the “Total Force” of the U.S. military.The recommendations that are so disturbing are those involving the assimilation the National Guard and Reserves into the regular US military, under control and management of the DoD,writes Carolyn Harris.The DoD currently trains its employees to regard protest as a form of domestic terrorism. It has come to our attention that the Department of Defense’s Annual Level I Antiterrorism (AT) Training for 2009 misinforms Department of Defense (DoD) personnel that certain First Amendment-protected activity may amount to low level terrorism,complained the ACLU last month.

The federalized National Guard has increasingly engaged in training exercises and drills designed to confront the American people. The exercises in Missouri and South Dakota reveal how the government is brainwashing troops to consider constitutionalists and patriots as insurgents who will attack military checkpoints and convoys.In February, the National Guard conducted an urban military training mission in Arcadia, California. The Guard conducted a reconnaissance operation in the small town to identify possible locations of the weapons dealer,according to the Times Herald. The DHS, MIAC, the Virginia Fusion Center and others have characterized Second Amendment supporters and activists as potential terrorists.

National Guard troops in Ohio, New York, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Kentucky have deployed to conduct exercises against the American people, including taking over schools and jails and assuming police functions illegal under the Posse Comitatus Act. Tea Party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the general public, and are no more or less afraid of falling into a lower socioeconomic class, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

The 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be Republican, white, male, married and older than 45. They hold more conservative views on a range of issues than Republicans generally. They are also more likely to describe themselves as very conservative and President Obama as very liberal.And while most Republicans say they are dissatisfied with Washington, Tea Party supporters are more likely to classify themselves as angry.The Tea Party movement burst onto the scene a year ago in protest of the economic stimulus package, and its supporters have vowed to purge the Republican Party of officials they consider not sufficiently conservative and to block the Democratic agenda on the economy, the environment and health care. But the demographics and attitudes of those in the movement have been known largely anecdotally. The Times/CBS poll offers a detailed look at the profile and attitudes of those supporters. Their responses are like the general public’s in many ways. Most describe the amount they paid in taxes this year as fair.Most send their children to public schools. A plurality do not think Sarah Palin is qualified to be president, and, despite their push for smaller government, they think that Social Security and Medicare are worth the cost to taxpayers. They actually are just as likely as Americans as a whole to have returned their census forms, though some conservative leaders have urged a boycott.

Tea Party supporters’ fierce animosity toward Washington, and the president in particular, is rooted in deep pessimism about the direction of the country and the conviction that the policies of the Obama administration are disproportionately directed at helping the poor rather than the middle class or the rich. The overwhelming majority of supporters say Mr. Obama does not share the values most Americans live by and that he does not understand the problems of people like themselves. More than half say the policies of the administration favor the poor, and 25 percent think that the administration favors blacks over whites — compared with 11 percent of the general public. They are more likely than the general public, and Republicans, to say that too much has been made of the problems facing black people. Asked what they are angry about, Tea Party supporters offered three main concerns: the recent health care overhaul, government spending and a feeling that their opinions are not represented in Washington. The only way they will stop the spending is to have a revolt on their hands, Elwin Thrasher, a 66-year-old semiretired lawyer in Florida, said in an interview after the poll. I’m sick and tired of them wasting money and doing what our founders never intended to be done with the federal government.They are far more pessimistic than Americans in general about the economy. More than 90 percent of Tea Party supporters think the country is headed in the wrong direction, compared with about 60 percent of the general public. About 6 in 10 say America’s best years are behind us when it comes to the availability of good jobs for American workers.

Nearly 9 in 10 disapprove of the job Mr. Obama is doing over all, and about the same percentage fault his handling of major issues: health care, the economy and the federal budget deficit. Ninety-two percent believe Mr. Obama is moving the country toward socialism, an opinion shared by more than half of the general public. I just feel he’s getting away from what America is,said Kathy Mayhugh, 67, a retired medical transcriber in Jacksonville.He’s a socialist. And to tell you the truth, I think he’s a Muslim and trying to head us in that direction, I don’t care what he says. He’s been in office over a year and can’t find a church to go to. That doesn’t say much for him.The nationwide telephone poll was conducted April 5 through April 12 with 1,580 adults. For the purposes of analysis, Tea Party supporters were oversampled, for a total of 881, and then weighted to their proper proportion in the poll. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points for all adults and for Tea Party supporters. Of the 18 percent of Americans who identified themselves as supporters, 20 percent, or 4 percent of the general public, said they had given money or attended a Tea Party event, or both. These activists were more likely than supporters generally to describe themselves as very conservative and had more negative views about the economy and Mr. Obama. They were more angry with Washington and intense in their desires for a smaller federal government and deficit. Tea Party supporters over all are more likely than the general public to say their personal financial situation is fairly good or very good. But 55 percent are concerned that someone in their household will be out of a job in the next year. And more than two-thirds say the recession has been difficult or caused hardship and major life changes. Like most Americans, they think the most pressing problems facing the country today are the economy and jobs.

But while most Americans blame the Bush administration or Wall Street for the current state of the American economy, the greatest number of Tea Party supporters blame Congress. They do not want a third party and say they usually or almost always vote Republican. The percentage holding a favorable opinion of former President George W. Bush, at 57 percent, almost exactly matches the percentage in the general public that holds an unfavorable view of him. Dee Close, a 47-year-old homemaker in Memphis, said she was worried about a drift in the country.Over the last three or four years, I’ve realized how immense that drift has been away from what made this country great,Ms. Close said. Yet while the Tea Party supporters are more conservative than Republicans on some social issues, they do not want to focus on those issues: about 8 in 10 say that they are more concerned with economic issues, as is the general public. When talking about the Tea Party movement, the largest number of respondents said that the movement’s goal should be reducing the size of government, more than cutting the budget deficit or lowering taxes. And nearly three-quarters of those who favor smaller government said they would prefer it even if it meant spending on domestic programs would be cut. But in follow-up interviews, Tea Party supporters said they did not want to cut Medicare or Social Security — the biggest domestic programs, suggesting instead a focus on waste.Some defended being on Social Security while fighting big government by saying that since they had paid into the system, they deserved the benefits.

Others could not explain the contradiction.

That’s a conundrum, isn’t it? asked Jodine White, 62, of Rocklin, Calif.I don’t know what to say. Maybe I don’t want smaller government. I guess I want smaller government and my Social Security.She added,I didn’t look at it from the perspective of losing things I need.
