Israel Democracy Institute poll, which was conducted April 9-12 and the
results of which were published Monday, found a large gap between Jewish
and Arab Israelis’ attitudes toward the fighting with Iran and its
Lebanese proxy.Among Jews, a full half said they were “certain” Israel
should continue fighting Hezbollah. A further 30 percent said they
thought it should, and only 11.5% said they thought or were certain it
should not. The remaining 8.5% said they did not know.Among Arabs, by
contrast, just 19% of respondents said they thought or were certain
Israel should keep fighting Hezbollah, while a majority (66%) said they
thought or were certain it should not. The remaining 15% said they did
not know.Asked about the US-Iran ceasefire announced last week, only
about a quarter (26%) of Jewish Israelis said they felt somewhat or very
relieved when they heard about it, while 38% said they were either
somewhat or very unhappy. A remaining 33.5% said they felt neither
relieved nor unhappy, and 2.5% said they did not know.Meanwhile, a
majority (57%) of Arab Israelis said they felt very relieved, and a
further 13% said they felt somewhat relieved. Only 12% said they felt

The Israeli military has nearly
completed the capture of the Hezbollah stronghold of Bint Jbeil in
southern Lebanon, killing more than 100 members of the terror group in
the area in the process, the Israel Defense Forces said
Monday.Meanwhile, Hezbollah continued to fire rockets at northern Israel
throughout the day, including one that injured a woman in Nahariya.
Also Monday, two IDF soldiers were moderately hurt and six lightly
wounded by a Hezbollah drone attack in southern Lebanon.Bint Jbeil is
considered a symbol of Hezbollah power and the IDF has been encircling
the town in recent weeks as it seeks to extend its control of southern
Lebanon after the Iran-backed group broke the ceasefire that had been in
place since November 2024 to support Tehran.During the Second Lebanon
War in 2006, the IDF battled the terror group in the town but failed to
capture it fully. Earlier, in May 2000, after the IDF withdrew from
southern Lebanon following an 18-year occupation, then-Hezbollah chief
Hassan Nasrallah delivered a victory speech in Bint Jbeil, where he
infamously described Israel as “weaker than a spider web.”The operation
in Bint Jbeil was being led by the 98th Division with its Paratroopers
and Commando brigades, along with the Givati Infantry Brigade.The IDF
said it initially isolated and encircled the town to prevent Hezbollah

Myung drew condemnation over the weekend from Israel’s Foreign Ministry
after comparing Israeli military actions to the Holocaust in a social
media post.Lee’s X post on Thursday reposted a video showing an Israeli
soldier pushing the body of a Palestinian man off of a building in the
West Bank in 2024. The leader wrote that he needed to “look into whether
this is true, and, if so, what measures were taken.”He then called the
issue of “forced sexual servitude of ‘comfort women,’” which South Korea
resents the Japanese for practicing during World War II, “no different
from the Holocaust or wartime atrocities.”The video was posted by an
account whose bio reads “Unapologetic Muslim Palestinian.” Lee later
clarified that he had learned that the incident had taken place in
September 2024 and that Israel had “conducted an investigation into the
matter and taken appropriate measures.”But the damage was done. The
Israeli Foreign Ministry condemned Lee’s post on X on Friday, writing,
“The remarks by the President of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, including the
trivialization of the massacre of Jews on the eve of Holocaust
Remembrance Day in Israel, are unacceptable and warrant strong

Monday found cement maker Holcim’s Lafarge unit guilty of charges that
its Syrian subsidiary financed terrorism and breached European sanctions
to keep a plant operating in northern Syria during the country’s civil
war.The case was the first time a company has been tried in France for
financing terrorism. Sherpa and ECCHR, two organizations that filed the
initial lawsuit, in a joint statement called it “a historic decision in
the fight against multinational corporations’ impunity.”Eight former
Lafarge employees were found guilty, including former CEO Bruno Lafont,
who was sentenced to six years in jail. His lawyer told Reuters he would
appeal.A lawyer for Christian Herrault, the former deputy managing
director of the Lafarge group who was sentenced to five years in jail,
said Herrault would also appeal.Judges determined that Lafarge paid, in
total, 5.59 million euros ($6.54 million) to jihadist groups, including
Islamic State and the al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, both designated
as terrorists by the European Union, between 2013 and September 2014.The
presiding judge, Isabelle Prevost-Desprez, said the payments made by
Lafarge helped to strengthen jihadist groups that carried out deadly

terrorist organization was to keep the Syrian plant running for
economic reasons. Payments to terrorist entities enabled Lafarge to

form of a genuine commercial partnership with the Islamic State,” she
added.The cement maker was ordered to pay a 1.125 million euro ($1.32
million) fine, the maximum penalty available for a company, as
prosecutors had requested.“Lafarge SA acknowledges the court’s finding,
which concerns a legacy matter involving conduct that occurred more than
a decade ago and was in flagrant violation of Lafarge’s Code of
Conduct,” the company said in a statement.“The decision is an important
milestone in Lafarge SA’s actions to address this legacy matter
responsibly, and the company is reviewing the court’s reasoning.”Holcim
did not immediately respond to a request for comment.It was not
immediately clear whether the other former employees found guilty would
also appeal. They were handed sentences ranging from one to seven years,
as well as fines.The Jalabiya plant, located in northern Syria and
bought by Lafarge in 2008 for $680 million, began operating in 2010,

2011.Employees were housed in the nearby town of Manbij and needed to
cross the Euphrates River to access the plant. Among the payments, the
court found more than 800,000 euros ($93,792) were paid to secure safe

source materials from quarries that were under Islamic State control,
the court said.Lafarge became part of Switzerland-listed Holcim in
2015.In a separate case in the United States, Lafarge admitted in 2022

at a London protest on Saturday over expressions of support for
Palestine Action, the anti-Israel activist group designated a terror
organization by the UK following its raids on defense plants.“I’m
witnessing a farcical authoritarian overreach,” he said. “We’re talking
about vandalism — that’s not a crime, in light of the crimes that are
being committed against the Palestinian people, and now the Lebanese
people, and the Iranian people, and so on and so forth.“We believe
ourselves to be the good people. But we’re the people on the side of the
missile launchers, not the people the missiles are being fired at,” Del
Naja added, though the wars in Gaza and Lebanon both began with
Iran-backed groups firing rockets at Israel, and Iran fired some 650
ballistic missiles at Israel amid the latest war, prior to the current
truce.Palestine Action was proscribed last July after the group broke
into defense plants and a Royal Air Force base, causing millions of
pounds in damage and at one point attacking a police officer with a
sledgehammer. The ban made it a criminal offense, punishable by up to 14
years in prison, to belong to or support the group.In mid-February, the
High Court in London upheld a challenge to the ban, saying it had
interfered with the right to freedom of speech. London’s Metropolitan

The premier castigated Europe
on Monday, as Israel ushered in Holocaust Remembrance Day in a
pre-recorded ceremony from Yad Vashem, amid ongoing hostilities with
Iran and the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.In his speech, Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Europe today is “afflicted by deep
moral weakness,” and that Israel is now defending the continent, “which
has forgotten so much since the Holocaust.”He accused Europe of “losing
control of its identity, of its values, of its responsibility to defend
civilization against barbarism.”“It has much to learn from us,” the
premier said, “especially the essential lesson of the clear moral
distinction between good and evil, which in moments of truth demands
that we go to war for the sake of what’s good, for the sake of
life.”“Israel, on the other hand, doesn’t forget that eternal
responsibility,” Netanyahu said.“Along with the US, and along with other
countries with which we are creating alliances that will be spoken
about in the future, we are defending ourselves — we are defending the
