Montgomery County Right to Life hosted a pastors dinner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tuesday night to begin the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign that will last until Nov. 2.Twice a year prior to the start of each 40 Days for Life kickoff rally, MCRTL hosts a dinner for pastors and their wives to provide encouragement for their pro-life stance and to be strengthened through fellowship with other pastors and pro-life leaders. Pastors from West Conroe Baptist Church, Living Branch Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church and various ministers and ministry leaders attended the dinner, which was prepared by Vernon’s Kuntry Katfish.Director for Coalition for Life Bobby Reynoso, of College Station, was the guest speaker at the kickoff rally. He started volunteering in the pro-life movement in 2007 during the first national 40 Days for Life campaign. By 2008, he was hired at Coalition for Life in Bryan and became the executive director in 2010.After the abortion clinic in Bryan closed in the fall of 2013, Reynoso was asked to join the national 40 Days for Life team.The 40 Days Vigil runs from Sept. 24 to Nov. 2. MCRTL is coordinating prayer times at the Planned Parenthood facility at 4747 Louetta in Spring.“MCRTL and some area churches have maintained prayer at the clinic since it opened in April 2013,” MCRTL Director Teresa Strack said. “We will be praying for the unborn babies, for their families and for the clinic workers. Loving prayer is a powerful force.”Strack is giving an open invitation to pastors and ministry leaders in Montgomery County to go to the website and sign up for a time to pray.“Last year, we had 10 people sign up,” Strack said. “I was hoping for someone to pray for all 40 days. Shahina Siddiqui, President of the Islamic Social Services Association holds the handbook, United Against Terrorism - A Collaborative Effort Towards A Secure, Inclusive and Just Canada, at a press conference in the Winnipeg Central Mosque in Winnipeg Monday.A national anti-terrorist handbook was launched today in Winnipeg as the first step to counter ISIS and El al-Qaida extremists on Canadian soil.United Against Terrorism is a 38-page booklet and 14-month joint effort by the locally-based Islamic Social Services Association, the National Council of Canadian Muslims and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.It is also the result of some hard work by a extremely committed Winnipeg woman.Shahina Siddiqui, the president of the Islamic Social Services Association, said the launch is just the beginning of what the Muslim community has to do to mobilize an anti-terrorism effort in Canada.The booklet was presented at the Winnipeg Central Mosque downtown with guests including dignitaries such as Winnipeg police chief Devon Clunis and Manitoba attorney general Andrew Swan.The one agency credited with a central role in developing the booklet, the RCMP, did not send a representative and there was no immediate response to a request for comment.The role of the RCMP was to supply websites Canadian authorities have identified as Islamic terrorist conduits.They’re all listed in the booklet and Siddiqui said she did not expect the RCMP to send a representative today.Instead she’s looking forward to the next series of steps, now the booklet is out.Siddiqui outlined a detailed campaign geared to target intervention strategies within the country’s Muslim population, starting with Winnipeg.Beyond that effort, she also called for a series of separate initiatives to combat stereotypes that terrorists co-opt to turn disaffected youth to their cause."We want to make it clear we don’t see this phenomenon of terrorism as only a policing issue," Siddiqui said.The booklet will be mailed out to major Muslim organizations in Canada and Siddiqui said she will campaign with governments, various institutions and schools to help the Muslim community in Canada spread their counter-terrorism message." We see it as a social issue and we see it as a community issue and we also see it as a media and a political issue," Siddiqui said.Within an hour of the launch the national organization that worked with her on the booklet had issued a statement across Canada."We heard and responded to a pressing need to understand and evaluate the nature, origin, causes, facilitators and impacts of violent extremist messages on Canadian Muslim youth," it quoted Siddiqui as saying."Between the messages of extremists who twist religious principles to rationalize their hateful messages of violence, and the Islamophobes who apply the same cut-and-paste approach to foment hatred of Muslims, there exists a majority of Canadians of all faiths and backgrounds whose voices of reason, compassion, mutual respect, and tolerance are drowned out," Siddiqui’s was quoted as saying.That speech and the one delivered by her national counterpart were quoted in the statement."The best defense to violent extremist messages is to equip communities with sound knowledge, and to ensure that they are well-informed of their civic rights and responsibilities," said Ihsaan Gardee, the executive director of the National Council of Canadian Muslims."This handbook offers Canadian Muslims detailed information about how to actively participate in all aspects of civic life and to respond to misinformation. It also offers concrete steps for families and communities in responding to fears or concerns that a loved one has been swayed by extremist ideology, and strategies for dealing with unfair labels, stereotyping, and stigmatization," says Gardee.In 2012, the Harper government unveiled Canada’s first comprehensive counterterrorism strategy, called Building Resilence Against Terrorism. It included key elements that this handbook picked up and it called for roundtable discussions.In June 2013, the Winnipeg Muslim community convened their own roundtable, with 200 people who identified elements they needed to protect their teenage boys from being picked off by extremists.The handbook released today is the result. The terrorist to civilian ratio of Palestinian deaths in Operation Protective Edge is an unprecedented 1:1, a news study released last week reveals - supporting earlier findings regarding the so-called "civilian casualties" Hamas touts to international media. According to the highly respected Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC), 49% of the "martyrs" listed on the Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry (PHM) list were found to have been linked to terrorist organizations; just 51% were confirmed civilian casualties.The study, which has examined PHM's death tally since the war's early stages, has now tracked roughly 40% of published casualties during the war - some 842 people. According to the ITIC, of those 842: 354 of those killed were terrorist operatives. 367 of those killed were non-involved civilians.121 people who were killed are unidentified at this stage. Therefore, it is not possible to determine whether they were terrorist operatives or non-involved civilians.Of the 721 dead who could be identified, terrorist operatives constitute approximately 49% of the names. Non-involved civilians constitute approximately 51%.In addition, two names deemed originally as civilian casualties have now been re-identified as members of Hamas's "military wing," the Al-Qassam Brigades. A third has been re-identified as a member of Islamic Jihad.PHM - the officiating body for casualty counts in Gaza which has enacted a monopoly on Western media - is run by a known Hamas terrorist, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qurda. The PHM does not differentiate between terrorists and civilians, but several "Palestinian rights groups" - including one UN-based group - do, and have estimated the civilian casualty rate at between 72-82%.Israel, however, has maintained since the early stages of the operation that some 900 of those killed, or 47%, were terrorists.Such a ratio of combatant to non- combatant casualties - roughly 1:1 - would be almost unprecedented in the history of urban warfare.

Arutz Sheva was at the scene as hundreds of concerned Jews gathered on Tuesday in the Samaria town of Givat Assaf, located north of Jerusalem near Beit El, to join in a prayer rally to save the community from destruction.The far-left group Peace Now seven years ago petitioned for the town's destruction claiming it was built on Arab-owned land; residents argue it was not privately owned and therefore can easily be recognized as state land, adding that nearly all of the land was purchased and legally registered by residents in the state land registry.In a court discussion on three buildings in the town two weeks ago, a state representative said the government will not recognize the town, in a reversal of earlier promises which legal experts argue may pave the way for a wider destruction of the community. That fear was strengthened after judges chose to wait on the three buildings for an additional decision on the case."They claimed we were sitting on stolen land. The lands here were nearly all obtained in full, everything was in order, and everyone knew it," Givat Assaf resident Eldad Shorek told Arutz Sheva at the rally. "And then they invented a new claim, that these lands were not slated for regularization and the country isn't interested in resolving their recognition (as state land)."The move is a prelude to demolition, argues Shorek, noting that "telling the High Court there's no intention to regularize is like telling the High Court 'go on, destroy.'"Shorek added that there isn't even an Arab complainant in the case claiming ownership of the lands, saying "it's the most basic thing, you don't start a case without a complainant. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said Tuesday that Israel needs to “sober up” and learn a lesson from the recent war with Gaza – namely, that a similar situation must not be allowed to arise in Judea and Samaria.“ Once the area turns into Hamastan, it won't just be Hamas,” he warned, at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS). “We are talking about an Iranian proxy and global jihadi elements. Who can afford such a security situation in Judea and Samaria? What reply will there be if they fire mortar shells from the western hills of Samaria?”Yaalon revealed that Israel was considering some unspecified positive steps vis-a-vis the Palestinian Arabs in Judea and Samaria, “but then the abduction in which the three teens were murdered in Gush Etzion” and Operation Brother's Keeper began.Yaalon said he does not know for sure if Hamas planned in advance to start a large scale war against Israel in the summer. On this matter, he said, “there are many speculations, but what happened here is definitely an attempt [to start a conflagration], either by a terror abduction or a tunnel terror strike, which were foiled in the end.”Yaalon added that the security establishment believes that at least 50% of the 2,000 people killed in Gaza in the war were terrorists.He insisted that Israel was in control of the conflict from the outset. “When we entered the campaign, we thought in advance what goal to set, and how the campaign should end. Most Palestinian Arabs would favor resuming rocket fire at Israel if it does not lift its Gaza blockade, although support for armed confrontation is dropping off, according to a poll published Monday by AFP."An overwhelming majority of 80% supports the launching of rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel if the siege and blockade are not ended," said the survey of 1,200 Palestinian Arabs in Gaza and Judea and Samaria, conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR).Conducted a month after the end of Israel’s self-defense Operation Protective Edge in Gaza, the poll says 44 percent of respondents saw armed confrontation as the best way to “end Israeli occupation” and set up a Palestinian state.It said that 29 percent believed negotiations were the best option, while 23 percent favored non-violent resistance.The poll, carried out between September 25-27 and with a margin of error of three percentage points, reflected a falloff in support both for Hamas which rules Gaza and for violence, according to AFP.PSR said that in a similar survey a month earlier, in the immediate aftermath of the war, 53 percent backed armed confrontation. Asked how they would vote if a general election were held now, 39 percent of those polled said they would support Hamas, down from 46 percent a month ago.The rival Fatah of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas would win 36 percent, up from 31 percent in August, the survey found.In a presidential race, however, Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh would receive 55 percent support compared to 38 percent for Abbas.Asked if Israel won the July-August war, or Hamas -- which fired rockets deep into Israel -- 69 percent handed victory to the Hamas in the latest survey, down from 79 percent last month.

The Defense Ministry and the IDF have decided to build a fence enclosing the Gaza Belt region, after both a survey of the long-term damage of Operation Protective Edge on the bloc and in light of two terrorist infiltrations there within a 48-hour period. But the fence is no ordinary fence. Security sources told Walla! News Monday that the barrier will be a "smart barrier," with an alarm system designed to alert the Gaza Belt Regional Council and the Gaza Division of the IDF at any suspected infiltration attempt. A similar system is in place near the Palestinian Authority and in Judea and Samaria. "Work has already begun in [Gaza Belt] communities," the source, an officer in the Southern Command, revealed. "The goal is to become more alert to infiltrations as they happen on the ground, in face of threats from [nearby] Gaza - and there are many of them.""Some infiltrations are terror attacks, and some are merely Gazans looking to find jobs," he noted, "[but] for us, those who cross the fence are, first and foremost, terrorists." "Now, if he crosses the fence, we will have further information on whether or not he entered a community," he added. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon is directly behind the decision, an additional security source told the daily, which is also in tandem with measures to strengthen public institutions against rocket fire in those communities - especially schools. For now, the source noted, funding for the barrier fence is not from the separate project to strengthen buildings, but directly from the IDF's own budget.The Gaza Division, under the command of Brigadier General Itai Virov, is also in the midst of conducting dialogue with mayors and security staff in the various communities and kibbutzim over operational guidelines for the "smart fence." The prime problem, he said, is fine-tuning the system to detect infiltrations, specifically - not only farmers moving in and out of community lands during the course of a typical day. The decision surfaces after something of a mass exodus during and after Operation Protective Edge, which saw as many as 60% of residents flee for safer areas of Israel. Many residents also complained about the lack of security in the region, citing an ill-timed measure by the IDF and Defense Ministry to cut guard posts around the same communities just months before the latest war began. Residents also complained during this year's snowstorm that maintenance on the fence was low-priority, further leaving communities at risk. Over the past 48 hours alone, two separate infiltration attempts have been apprehended along the same border. One terrorist was armed; the other was not.

Hamas terrorists Marwan Kawasmeh and Amar Abu Eisha, who abducted and murdered Israeli teens Naftali Frenkel, Eyal Yifrah, and Gilad Sha'ar on June 12, were lauded with the highest status in Islam - martyrdom - by official Palestinian Authority (PA) press and leaders.The official PA news agency WAFA praised the two as martyrs last Tuesday after the IDF succeeded in eliminating the two terrorists earlier in the day in Hevron, after the terrorists engaged Israeli forces in a gun battle."Israeli occupation forces executed citizens Marwan Kawasmeh and Amar Abu Eisha today, Tuesday, in the early hours of the morning in a military operation in central Hevron... Security sources told WAFA that the occupation forces were still holding on to the bodies of the two martyrs," wrote WAFA, as translated by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW).PA Minister of Religious Affairs Yusuf Ida'is also called the two terrorists "martyrs" while speaking with the Palestinian Arab Ma'an News Agency last Tuesday.PMW notes that the status as martyrs indicates the highest level of heavenly reward in Islam, a status that has made Arab mothers ecstatic on many documented occasions. In addition to the unadulterated praise of the terrorists without noting their heinous crimes, numerous PA sources last Tuesday rushed to condemn Israel for taking out the two, amid insinuations that they were not actually guilty of the murders. The claims come despite the fact that a senior Hamas source in Turkey last month finally took credit for the attack, and last Monday Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal admitted to Yahoo News that the murders were indeed carried out by Hamas terrorists.

PA delegitimization

Ida'is accused Israel of "assassinating" the terrorists, while official PA TV news presented the elimination of the terrorists as a "cold-blooded execution." The claim is ironic given that the PA's "unity partner" Hamas executed numerous Gaza residents at the end of the recent operation, reportedly using the opportunity to take out Fatah rivals.PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction also got in on the condemnation action last Tuesday, with Fatah spokesperson Ahmad Assaf terming the killing a "cowardly execution," and "a serious violation of international law."In Hevron, where the elimination of the terrorists took place, local PA Governor Kamel Hamid said "the occupation carried out a death sentence on two Hevron citizens, and this is a premeditated crime."The PA also hinted that Israel killed the terrorist murderers to prevent them from somehow exposing they were not involved in the murder, despite the abundance of evidence.Fatah Leadership Committee Member Yahya Rabah wrote in his column for the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al- Jadida "it is possible that, were they alive, they would tell us and the world that the operation of kidnapping and murder of the three settlers is unrelated to the official Israeli version. BEIRUT/MURSITPINAR Turkey (Reuters) - U.S. warplanes attacked Islamic State targets in Syria overnight, in raids that a group monitoring the war said killed civilians as well as jihadist fighters.The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes hit mills and grain storage areas in the northern Syrian town of Manbij, in an area controlled by Islamic State, killing at least two civilian workers.Strikes on a building on a road leading out of the town also killed a number of Islamic State fighters, said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the observatory, which gathers information from sources in Syria.The U.S. military said on Monday an American air strike targeted Islamic State vehicles in a staging area adjacent to a grain storage facility near Manbij, but it had no evidence so far of civilian casualties.While raids in Iraq and Syria have taken a toll on Islamic State equipment and fighters on the ground, there is no sign the tide is turning against the group, which controls large areas of both countries.A U.S. Air Force general said Islamic State militants were changing their tactics in the face of American air strikes in Iraq and Syria, abandoning large formations such as convoys that had been easier for the U.S. military to target.“They are a smart adversary, and they have seen that that's not effective for their survival, so they are now dispersing themselves,” Air Force Major General Jeffrey Harrigian said at a Pentagon news conference.That “requires us to work harder to locate them, and then develop the situation to appropriately target them”, he said.In a statement to the United Nations that appeared to give approval of U.S. and Arab air strikes in Syria against the militants, Syria's foreign minister said his country backed the campaign against Islamic State.Syria "stands with any international effort aimed at fighting and combating terrorism", said Walid al-Moualem, whose government has long been an international pariah because of what critics say is its brutality in a civil war that has killed 190,000 people.U.S. congressional aides said Congress might not vote until next year on an authorization for President Barack Obama's air strikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, despite some lawmakers' insistence that approval is already overdue.Obama has said he does not need approval for the air strikes, despite the constitutional requirement that Congress authorize military action.The U.S.-led strikes have so far failed to halt an advance by Islamic State fighters in northern Syria on Kobani, a Kurdish town on the border with Turkey where fighting over the past week caused the fastest refugee flight of Syria's three-year-old war.At least 15 Turkish tanks could be seen at the frontier, some with guns pointed towards Syrian territory. More tanks and armored vehicles moved towards the border after shells landed in Turkey on Sunday and Monday.

ARAB ALLIES

The United States has been bombing Islamic State and other groups in Syria for a week with the help of Arab allies, and hitting targets in neighboring Iraq since last month. European countries have joined the campaign in Iraq but not in Syria.Islamic State, a Sunni militant group that broke off from al Qaeda, alarmed the West and the Middle East by sweeping through northern Iraq in June, slaughtering prisoners and ordering Shi'ites and non-Muslims to convert or die.It is battling Shi'ite-backed governments in both Iraq and Syria, as well as other Sunni groups in Syria and Kurdish groups in both countries, part of complex multi-sided civil wars in which nearly every country in the Middle East has a stake.The head of Syria's al Qaeda branch, the Nusra Front, a Sunni militant group that is a rival of Islamic State and has also been targeted by U.S. strikes, said Islamists would carry out attacks on the West in retaliation for the campaign.Obama has worked since August to build an international coalition to combat the fighters, describing them last week in an address to the United Nations as a "network of death".His comments in an interview broadcast on Sunday that U.S. intelligence had underestimated Islamic State offered an explanation for why Washington appeared to have been taken by surprise when the fighters surged through northern Iraq in June.The militants had gone underground when U.S. forces quashed al Qaeda in Iraq with the aid of local tribes during the U.S. war there that ended in 2011, Obama told CBS's "60 Minutes"."But over the past couple of years, during the chaos of the Syrian civil war, where essentially you have huge swathes of the country that are completely ungoverned, they were able to reconstitute themselves and take advantage of that chaos," he said.Obama's remarks came under fire on Monday from several U.S. lawmakers and members of the intelligence community."This was not an intelligence community failure but a failure by policy makers to confront the threat," said Mike Rogers, Republican chairman of the House of Representative Intelligence Committee.

BATTLE ON BORDER

Gunfire rang out from across the border, and a plume of smoke rose over Kobani as periodic shelling by Islamic State fighters took place. Kurds watching the fighting from the Turkish side of the border said the Syrian Kurdish group, the YPG, was putting up a strong defense."Many Islamic State fighters have been killed. They're not taking the bodies with them," said Ayhan, a Turkish Kurd who had spoken by phone with one of his friends fighting with the YPG. He said Kurdish forces had picked up eight Islamic State bodies.At Mursitpinar, the nearby border crossing, scores of young men were returning to Syria saying they would join the fight. More refugees were fleeing in the opposite direction."Because of the bombs, everyone is running away. We heard people have been killed," said Xelil, a 39-year-old engineer who fled Kobani on Monday. "The YPG have got light weapons, but Islamic State has big guns and tanks."A local official in Kobani said Islamic State continued to besiege the town from the east, west and south and that the militants were 10 km (6 miles) from the outskirts."From the morning there has been shelling into Kobani and ... maybe about 20 rockets," Idris Nassan, deputy foreign minister in a local Kurdish administration said by phone. He said the rockets had killed at least three people in the town.Turkey has not permitted its own Kurds to cross to join the battle: "If they've got Syrian identity or passports, they can go. PRINCETON N.J. (Reuters) - Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled al-Attiya defended on Monday his government's connections with armed militant groups in the Middle East and its involvement in negotiating the release of hostages but denied ever paying ransoms to secure their freedom."No, Qatar does not pay ransoms. Again, Qatar will not apologize for any soul or life we saved in Syria. If we can mediate to save another life we will do so," al-Attiya said in response to a question from Reuters after giving a speech at Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.The energy-rich Gulf Arab state, which does back some rebel factions fighting to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has mediated the release of foreign and Syrian captives on several occasions in the course of Syria's three-year-old civil war.Islamic State, a splinter of al Qaeda, has exploited the chaos in Syria to carve out territory in the country's eastern provinces and northern Iraq. It is accused of massacres and beheadings of civilians and soldiers.Qatar supported the U.S. strikes against Islamic State in Syria, contributing one plane on the first night of attacks on Tuesday but did not take an active role in the operation.Other U.S. allies Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia joined in the strikes. All are ruled by Sunni Muslims and are opponents of Assad, a member of a Shi'ite-derived sect, and his main regional ally, Shi'ite Iran.Although the Gulf states all oppose Assad, Qatar has long faced criticism, including from its Gulf Arab neighbors, for using its vast oil and gas wealth to back Islamists across the region including groups inside Syria.Qatar assured the West on Sept. 24 it was not aiding Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.In September it helped negotiate the release of 45 Fijian U.N. Peacekeepers taken hostage along the Syrian/Israeli border after being attacked by Islamist militant groups, including the al-Nusra Front, an al Qaeda affiliate, in the volatile area between Syria and Israel."The Fijians were working close with us, so they saw they saw our steps and movement to release their soldiers. We don’t believe in paying ransoms. This is another way of fueling, if you may call it supporting through the backdoor, and this we don’t do," al-Attiya said.Qatar helped secure the release, among others, of Peter Theo Curtis, an American held for nearly two years by al-Nusra; 13 Greek Orthodox nuns in March after more than three months of being held by Islamist fighters.
