We have received numerous emails and telephone calls from our viewers who were upset when they tuned into TBN on Wednesday night expecting to see our program dealing with churches that have lost their way and four well known leaders that are promoting Chrislam – a uniting of Christianity with Islam. On Wednesday afternoon we received a call from Matt Crouch of TBN informing us that they would not run that program, despite having aired it Monday evening. The reason he gave was that we specifically mentioned Rick Warren and Robert Schuller and that it is TBN’s policy that broadcasters are not allowed to rebuke other ministries. This is a rather hypocritical statement in light of the fact that they have never said anything in the past when we have rebuked others such as Bishop Spong, Bishop Pike, and in the past few months Harold Camping and Rob Bell.
They also stated that they would not run any future program where we offered our DVD Reclaiming & Restoring Biblical Christianity as a premium for a donation to our ministry. A DVD that exposes false teachers and the heresies that they proclaim.
Beloved, I Will Not Be Silenced! I will not allow anyone to tell me what I can and cannot preach. When I see heretical teaching leading to apostasy, I will speak out. The Bible says All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:(II Timothy 3:16 emphasis mine). The Apostle Paul also gives instructions in Titus 1:9 – 11, 13 “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers…Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake…Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith” (emphasis mine).

First Rabbinically Approved Sacrifice in 1500 Years Has Been Performed in Israel by Stacy L. Harp on June 13, 2011
We are truly in the end of days and prophecy is being fulfilled daily right before our eyes if we are watching. The following came in to my email from Prophecy Today, the ministry of Jimmy DeYoung.It’s been 1500 years since there has been a rabbinically approved sacrifice to take place in Israel and the rabbis did approve a Gentile who trained under the leadership of selected rabbis to perform the sacrifice of two turtledoves recently in Israel. The ceremony took place in the Jordan Valley near Jericho as a number of rabbis watched to make certain all Levitical laws were kept in the offering of these two doves.There are a number of religious Jews that have been preparing for the building of the temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem who believe that Jews need to become accustomed once again to the offering of animals for the sacrifices called for when the temple is once again standing in Jerusalem.
A rabbinically approved sacrifice being performed in Israel is tangible evidence that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled. Since the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70AD there has not been an opportunity for Jews to offer any of the required sacrifices called for under Levitical law. Over the last 2000 years there have been several occasions in different parts of the world where rabbis would approve the offering of animals in sacrifice but nothing compared to the days when the temple was standing in Jerusalem. Recently a Gentile, one trained by a number of rabbis, performed a sacrifice of two turtledoves in the Jordan Valley near the Dead Sea, the first rabbinically approved sacrifice in 1500 years.This is a part of a program to prepare the Jewish people for the restoration of the sacrificial system that is called for in the first 7 chapters in the book of Leviticus. Daniel 9:27 reveals that the sacrificial system will be restored when there is a temple in Jerusalem. Even the Messiah’s temple described in Ezekiel 40-46 calls for sacrifices to be restored as a part of daily Jewish life. There will be two temples in the future for the Jewish people, one in the Tribulation period and then another in the time of the Millennial Kingdom of the future. In both of these temples, sacrifices will be made. In fact for the next temple all preparations have been made and its ready to be built in Jerusalem even right now.A sacrifice made in Israel recently is indeed evidence that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled.
Fischer Won’t Head IMF, Disqualified by Board

Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer will not head the International Monetary Fund, after the IMF board disqualified him on Monday.According to a report by Reuters, the IMF board shortlisted French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Mexican central bank chief Agustin Carstens for the IMF top job and disqualified Fischer due to the fact that his age – 67 – is two years beyond the ceiling set by the organization’s bylaws.Reuters cited two IMF officials who requested anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made official. The two told the news agency there was not enough support to change the fund’s rules to allow Fischer to run.Fischer officially announced his candidacy on Saturday after mulling the matter for nearly two weeks.A unique, unplanned and possibly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has arisen to run for the head of the International Money Fund, Fischer told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz, which after consideration I decided I wanted to pursue.Steinitz welcomed the news of Fischer’s candidacy, saying: On the one hand, we would love to see Stanley Fischer continue in the important role the Bank of Israel governor, but on the other hand, there is no doubt that the prestigious candidacy is a tribute to the State of Israel and its economy.Fischer is considered an excellent Governor of the Bank of Israel, having gotten Israel through the 2008 recession. Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon heads today (Monday) for the Vatican, leading an Israeli delegation taking part in a plenary session of the Bilateral Permanent Working Commission between Israel and the Vatican.The exact agenda has not been announced, though it was said that the goal is to promote economic negotiations between the two countries. Public concern was raised at this time last year that Israel would agree to a Church exemption from taxes on its many properties in Jerusalem and around Israel, a pledge never to confiscate them, and possibly even to give the Church control of additional areas in the Old City.Last year at this time, Benny Kalmanson, a Professor of History at Herzog College and the Dean of Yeshivat Otniel in the South Mt. Hevron region, explained the gravity of the situation: Christian churches hold tremendous amounts of lands and assets in Israel, in key areas – such as in Jerusalem, around the Kinneret Sea, and elsewhere – and a promise never to confiscate them will create a great bottleneck in the development of these areas.He said that other countries might be able to afford to grant special status to churches and the like, but in Israel, the proportion of church-owned properties, especially in the capital city, is very large. I don’t say we should confiscate their properties, but I also see no need to make a commitment never to do so.
Vatican: Pro-PLO State - Despite International Resolutions

Expert: King Abdullah Not Serious About Reforms

While Jordan’s King Abdullah promised on Sunday that he will be implementing democratic reforms in his country, Dr. Assaf David of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem believes his intentions are neither serious nor genuine.If he had said these things three months ago they would have sounded more credible, Dr. David told Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew website on Monday. He backed this statement by bringing as proof a proposal King Abdullah recently received to join the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Such a move, explained Dr. David, will lead Jordan to quickly solve its economic problems, would allow the King to steer away from dependence on the United States, and would also allow him to avoid implementing significant reforms in his country.The Gulf States’ proposal allows will allow him to have a lot of money available quickly,said Dr. David.It allows Abdullah to reject demands for reform which are coming from within.On Sunday, King Abdullah promised Jordanians in a televised address Sunday that a future government will be elected instead of appointed by the king. The king appoints his cabinet ministers and can dissolve parliament, which is elected by the people. He stated his opposition to chaos that leads to destruction and warned against the dictates of the street.The King likely made his promises out of a concern that the Muslim Arab Spring would spread to his kingdom.His promises represent the first time he has outlined concessions to Jordanians, many of whom have demanded that he surrender much of his power. There have been few calls, for the time being, for the demise of the Hashemite monarchy, which is widely respected in the country.

The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, in cooperation with the Local Government Center, held a special conference on Monday on the subject of preparedness in local authorities for emergency situations. The conference was attended by mayors from across the country, including the Arab sector. The conference sought to learn from the experience of regional authorities who have experienced significant security events in their city, as well as to receive insights that will enable to improve the way the state will cope with future threats.
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin referred at the beginning of the conference to the recent decision to establish the Ministry of Homefront Defense, saying that even though there are those who argue that the decision to establish the Ministry was tainted by political considerations, I believe that it is a good thing that the state has decided to assign a Minister whose designation is to be responsible for the homefront during times of emergency.The Minister for Homefront Defense is MK Matan Vilnai of Defense Minister Ehud Barak’s Atzmaut (Independence) party, which was established after Barak defected from the Labor party. Some have said that Vilnai’s position was created simply to provide him with a ministerial position.MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima), who chairs the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said during the conference, The events in the Middle East have created a domino effect which affects the young people, including those residing in Judea and Samaria. Israel’s supreme interest in light of the events taking place in the region is to keep the peace with Egypt and Jordan. Despite the fact that the changes in the Middle East have started with younger people, ultimately, they have not seized power.

Israel Transfers Medical Supplies to Gaza

The Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, together with the Coordination and Liaison Administration of the Gaza Strip allowed on Monday the entry of medical equipment from Israel into Gaza. The equipment is to be used by the Jordanian hospital in the Gaza Strip. Also allowed was a turnover of 195 members of the hospital staff.The convoy came into Gaza through the Erez crossing and included 19 trucks with food and medical supplies for the hospital, as well as five buses carrying the medical staff. Along with the medical supplies and staff, the convoy also included a fuel tanker and a cooling truck for the hospital as well as prefabricated buildings, which will be added to the existing structure and will expand the hospital building by 300 square meters.Despite the violent takeover of the Gaza Strip by the Hamas terror group and despite its claims that Israel is not allowing any supplies to enter the Strip, Israel has continuously allowed the entry of humanitarian supplies into the region.In 2009, some 4,883 tons of medical equipment and medicine were delivered to the region, as well as medical supplies for the disabled such as wheelchairs, crutches and first aid kits. Also shipped to the region’s hospitals and clinics that year were heart monitors, baby feeding tubes, dental equipment, medical books, ambulance emergency equipment, artificial limbs and infant sleeping bags.
In the first quarter of 2010, 152 trucks of medical supplies and equipment made their way into Gaza.Israel has continuously allowed the entry of such supplies into Gaza despite heavy rocket attacks which originated from the region.Israel has also allowed Gaza residents in need of medical care to leave the Strip and receive it in Israel. In 2009, 10,544 patients and their companions left Gaza to access medical care in Israel, and there were 382 emergency evacuations from Gaza for medical purposes.Last year, an Egyptian journalist reported about a prosperous Gaza in which prices are low and luxury businesses are booming. He noted that Gaza’s markets are filled with a plethora of goods.Thanks to Israel, Gaza has also been allowed to export to Europe products such as cherry tomatoes, strawberries, carnations, and peppers.A spokesperson for the Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza said in a statement on Monday that the entry of medical equipment to hospitals was conducted as part of our humanitarian efforts for Gaza residents. First Rabbinically Approved Sacrifice in 1500 Years Has Been Performed in Israel by Stacy L. Harp on June 13, 2011
We are truly in the end of days and prophecy is being fulfilled daily right before our eyes if we are watching. The following came in to my email from Prophecy Today, the ministry of Jimmy DeYoung.It’s been 1500 years since there has been a rabbinically approved sacrifice to take place in Israel and the rabbis did approve a Gentile who trained under the leadership of selected rabbis to perform the sacrifice of two turtledoves recently in Israel. The ceremony took place in the Jordan Valley near Jericho as a number of rabbis watched to make certain all Levitical laws were kept in the offering of these two doves.There are a number of religious Jews that have been preparing for the building of the temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem who believe that Jews need to become accustomed once again to the offering of animals for the sacrifices called for when the temple is once again standing in Jerusalem.
A rabbinically approved sacrifice being performed in Israel is tangible evidence that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled. Since the destruction of the Jewish temple in 70AD there has not been an opportunity for Jews to offer any of the required sacrifices called for under Levitical law. Over the last 2000 years there have been several occasions in different parts of the world where rabbis would approve the offering of animals in sacrifice but nothing compared to the days when the temple was standing in Jerusalem. Recently a Gentile, one trained by a number of rabbis, performed a sacrifice of two turtledoves in the Jordan Valley near the Dead Sea, the first rabbinically approved sacrifice in 1500 years.This is a part of a program to prepare the Jewish people for the restoration of the sacrificial system that is called for in the first 7 chapters in the book of Leviticus. Daniel 9:27 reveals that the sacrificial system will be restored when there is a temple in Jerusalem. Even the Messiah’s temple described in Ezekiel 40-46 calls for sacrifices to be restored as a part of daily Jewish life. There will be two temples in the future for the Jewish people, one in the Tribulation period and then another in the time of the Millennial Kingdom of the future. In both of these temples, sacrifices will be made. In fact for the next temple all preparations have been made and its ready to be built in Jerusalem even right now.A sacrifice made in Israel recently is indeed evidence that Bible prophecy will be fulfilled.
Fischer Won’t Head IMF, Disqualified by Board

Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer will not head the International Monetary Fund, after the IMF board disqualified him on Monday.According to a report by Reuters, the IMF board shortlisted French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Mexican central bank chief Agustin Carstens for the IMF top job and disqualified Fischer due to the fact that his age – 67 – is two years beyond the ceiling set by the organization’s bylaws.Reuters cited two IMF officials who requested anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made official. While Jordan’s King Abdullah promised on Sunday that he will be implementing democratic reforms in his country, Dr. Assaf David of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem believes his intentions are neither serious nor genuine.If he had said these things three months ago they would have sounded more credible, Dr. David told Arutz Sheva’s Hebrew website on Monday. He backed this statement by bringing as proof a proposal King Abdullah recently received to join the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Such a move, explained Dr. David, will lead Jordan to quickly solve its economic problems, would allow the King to steer away from dependence on the United States, and would also allow him to avoid implementing significant reforms in his country.The Gulf States’ proposal allows will allow him to have a lot of money available quickly,said Dr. David.It allows Abdullah to reject demands for reform which are coming from within.On Sunday, King Abdullah promised Jordanians in a televised address Sunday that a future government will be elected instead of appointed by the king. The king appoints his cabinet ministers and can dissolve parliament, which is elected by the people. He stated his opposition to chaos that leads to destruction and warned against the dictates of the street.The King likely made his promises out of a concern that the Muslim Arab Spring would spread to his kingdom.His promises represent the first time he has outlined concessions to Jordanians, many of whom have demanded that he surrender much of his power. The Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, together with the Coordination and Liaison Administration of the Gaza Strip allowed on Monday the entry of medical equipment from Israel into Gaza. The equipment is to be used by the Jordanian hospital in the Gaza Strip. Also allowed was a turnover of 195 members of the hospital staff.The convoy came into Gaza through the Erez crossing and included 19 trucks with food and medical supplies for the hospital, as well as five buses carrying the medical staff. Along with the medical supplies and staff, the convoy also included a fuel tanker and a cooling truck for the hospital as well as prefabricated buildings, which will be added to the existing structure and will expand the hospital building by 300 square meters.Despite the violent takeover of the Gaza Strip by the Hamas terror group and despite its claims that Israel is not allowing any supplies to enter the Strip, Israel has continuously allowed the entry of humanitarian supplies into the region.In 2009, some 4,883 tons of medical equipment and medicine were delivered to the region, as well as medical supplies for the disabled such as wheelchairs, crutches and first aid kits. Also shipped to the region’s hospitals and clinics that year were heart monitors, baby feeding tubes, dental equipment, medical books, ambulance emergency equipment, artificial limbs and infant sleeping bags.
In the first quarter of 2010, 152 trucks of medical supplies and equipment made their way into Gaza.Israel has continuously allowed the entry of such supplies into Gaza despite heavy rocket attacks which originated from the region.Israel has also allowed Gaza residents in need of medical care to leave the Strip and receive it in Israel. In 2009, 10,544 patients and their companions left Gaza to access medical care in Israel, and there were 382 emergency evacuations from Gaza for medical purposes.Last year, an Egyptian journalist reported about a prosperous Gaza in which prices are low and luxury businesses are booming. He noted that Gaza’s markets are filled with a plethora of goods.Thanks to Israel, Gaza has also been allowed to export to Europe products such as cherry tomatoes, strawberries, carnations, and peppers.A spokesperson for the Coordinator of Government Activities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza said in a statement on Monday that the entry of medical equipment to hospitals was conducted as part of our humanitarian efforts for Gaza residents. Early this morning, hours after a Shomron news agency publicized an internal anti-settler IDF directive, a large police force raided its offices, confiscated computers, and made two arrests.An unusually large force of 100 policemen arrived in Yitzhar, north of Tapuach in Samaria, and swooped down on the offices of HaKol HaYehudi (the Jewish Voice). Officials in Yitzhar say the raid is most certainly linked directly to the agency's publication of an IDF Division Head's memo against soldiers who live in Judea and Samaria (Yesha).The Jewish Voice reported yesterday on the internal letter by Brig.-Gen. Nitzan Alon, head of the Judea and Samaria Division in the IDF. The memo states that soldier-residents of the Jewish communities in Yesha must be interviewed in advance to ensure that they do not plan to leak advance information of planned outpost demolitions. He said their background must be carefully investigated, and that they must be deployed accordingly.Alon cited two incidents over the past several months in which soldiers are suspected of having leaked such information, thus preventing demolitions. The two soldiers were suspended, tried, and distanced from their units.

Maple Group goes hostile for TMX

TORONTO (Reuters) – Maple Group launched a C$3.7 billion ($3.8 billion) hostile bid for Toronto Stock Exchange operator TMX Group on Monday, an all-Canadian challenge to the London Stock Exchange's agreed bid.The Maple Group consortium's long-awaited official bid proposed C$48 a share cash for 70 percent of shares, compared with 60 percent in the original proposal nearly a month ago.The group, comprised of four leading banks, five top pension funds and four new institutional investors, said in a takeover circular to shareholders that its offer was superior in value and provided greater certainty for TMX shareholders.The C$3.7 billion figure is based on C$48 multiplied by the number of fully diluted shares, Maple said. Previously, the C$3.6 billion value of the proposed offer was calculated based on the number of basic shares outstanding.With less than three weeks left until investors vote for the LSE-TMX deal, the Canadian consortium urged shareholders to vote against its rival. Maple's bid dies if TMX shareholders vote for LSE's $3.4 billion offer on June 30.TMX Group shareholders should be aware that Maple's offer can only proceed if the LSE take-over plan does not, Luc Bertrand, Maple's chief spokesman and vice-chairman of Quebec-based National Bank, said in a statement.Unlike LSE shareholders, TMX investors do not get a second vote if there are conditions attached to any regulatory approvals that may come after June 30.
The consortium said in its circular that unlike LSE's all-stock offer, Maple's bid offers cash to shareholders and would maintain TMX's current dividend. It also disputed LSE and TMX's assertion that the transatlantic tie-up would enhance liquidity for Canadian capital markets.The heads of TMX and LSE, Tom Kloet and Xavier Rolet, said on Friday their bid was different from other transatlantic exchange tie-ups in that it focused on growth and building new businesses rather than cost and revenue savings.LSE's planned takeover must pass muster with the Canadian government, which will decide if it meets the terms of the Investment Canada Act, which says foreign takeovers must carry a net benefit to Canada.We think we're in quite good shape now, Kloet told a global exchanges conference hosted by Sandler O'Neill in New York on Friday. Strong quakes again rock shaken New Zealand city

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Strong aftershocks rattled New Zealand's quake-devastated city of Christchurch again Monday, toppling one of the few buildings still standing downtown and sinking thousands of homes into darkness.Bricks crashed down in the cordoned-off city center, where only workers have tread since it was devastated in February's major earthquake. About 200 people were there when the quakes struck Monday, and two were briefly trapped in a church. More than 40 people have been taken to hospitals with minor injuries from falling debris, the city council said.We are being enveloped with dust, Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker told New Zealand's National Radio. It is very, very scary.All across the city, people fled buildings in panic when a 5.2-magnitude quake struck during lunchtime; just over an hour later, a 6.0 hit, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Smaller quakes were also recorded.
Several buildings were damaged in the central city and suburbs.All the shops have fallen down,said Renee Murray, who works at a Domino's Pizza in a suburb. Half of the roof has fallen in (but) they have not fully collapsed.Thousands of aftershocks have followed the 6.3-magnitude quake that killed 181 people on Feb. 22. That tremor and its aftershocks have been very shallow, which along with proximity to the city, have made the quakes very destructive. Monday's temblors were six miles (10 kilometers) deep, according to the USGS.About 47,000 homes in the city's eastern suburbs were without power Monday night, when temperatures were expected to approach freezing. Rocks tumbled down hills in the area, which was among the hardest hit in February, and silt bubbled from the earth — a process known as liquefaction that sometimes happens during a quake.After the February quake, 300,000 tons of silt had to be scraped away, and the silt alone made thousands of homes uninhabitable.On one road Monday, an SUV tipped front-first into a sinkhole that opened in the tarmac. A police car sank into another.Roger Sutton, chief executive of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, said the extra damage to the city center means some buildings that had been salvageable are now seriously damaged and will have to be brought down.
The group's demolition manager was driving (during the 6.0 quake), and there were buildings coming down in front of him, coming down behind him, Sutton said. He's very lucky to be alive.Two people who were injured were salvaging windows from St. John's Church when the facade, the last wall standing after February's quake, collapsed. Police said they were rescued and taken to a hospital with cuts and bruises.Another building nearby fell, according to police, and the dean of Christchurch Cathedral said the collapsed building suffered new damage.This has been a setback for Christchurch and its people, but it does not lessen our resolve to rebuild,Prime Minister John Key told reporters.The people of Christchurch should know all New Zealanders are thinking of them and will continue to support and stand by them in this very difficult time.New Zealand's earthquake monitoring service GNS Science says Monday's quakes were within a forecasted range but are likely to trigger new aftershocks themselves.

China prepares for more flooding as rain expected

BEIJING – More heavy downpours are forecast this week over central and southern China, where seasonal flooding has already killed more than 100 people, Chinese state media reported Monday.This month's rains have partially relieved the country's worst drought in half a century, while also causing landslides, toppling homes and cutting power supplies and telecommunications.Torrential rain is expected to sweep Hunan, one of the worst flood-hit provinces, from Monday evening until Friday, the province's flood control and drought relief headquarters said Monday.Compared with the last round, this time the area to be soaked is larger and the rainfall will be at least the same,said the headquarters' director, Bai Chaohai, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.The local government in Hunan said rainfall in some areas could be as high as 7 to 9 inches (180 to 220 millimeters).Bai said that soil in Hunan had become loose because of the drought, and areas including the mountainous western parts of the province were prone to mud-rock flows and landslides in heavy rain.Rain-triggered mountain torrents and mud-rock flows last week caused 36 deaths and left 21 missing in Hunan.The area affected by drought has halved since June 2 in the Yangtze River area of Hunan, neighboring Hubei and Jiangxi provinces, and Jiangsu and Anhui to the east, China's flood control agency said Monday.

Wildfire evacuation lifted for two Arizona towns

LUNA, New Mexico (Reuters) – Forest fire crews held the line on Sunday against a monster blaze in eastern Arizona despite another day of high winds and low humidity, allowing thousands of evacuees to return home and securing a New Mexico border town.
The so-called Wallow Fire displaced as many as 10,000 people at its peak and has scorched more than 680 square miles of Arizona's White Mountains, a mostly pine-studded region popular as a weekend getaway for families seeking to escape the summer heat.Much of the firefighting effort on the 15th day of the blaze focused on keeping flames from encroaching on Luna, New Mexico, a village of about 200 people at the edge of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest near the fire's easternmost flank.This is without a doubt the biggest fire I've been on, by a longshot, said firefighter Rod Schultz, part of a crew from Utah who has worked for three days helping clear a buffer zone of tinder-dry brush and trees between the fire line and Luna.Staring out across a wide canyon to a steep, smoldering hillside that had been engulfed in flames hours earlier, Schultz said, It ripped pretty good last night.

Second Temple Mount Rock Attack

Arab youths Sunday morning hurled stones at Jewish worshipers who ascended the Temple Mount. The attack came just two days after Friday afternoon's stone throwing incident which forced the Israel Police to storm Judaism's holiest site.Yoel Keren, a Land of Israel activist and regular visitor on the Temple Mount, told Israel National News that the attack came during his weekly ascent.It was the morning aliyah, my regular Sunday time, around 7:45, Keren related.We went up... myself, attorney Baruch Ben Yosef, and four female [Jewish] worshipers.Keren said the group was accompanied by a member of the Israel Police and a Waqf official onto the edge of the platform of the Al Aqsa mosque.We were on the northern end of the platform of the mosque,Keren explained.Its closer [to the forbidden zone of the Mount] than most groups go, but still outside the halachic Temple Mount according to [Jewish sages] Radbaz, Rambam, Rav Tzvi Rogen... and most of the major archeologists,Keren explained.That's when I heard the rocks ricocheting near us and looked up to see three Arab kids throwing stones at us... kids from the school up there. They were about 20 meters away. I turned and asked Baruch if he saw it... and he had a rock at his feet.Keren said the Israel Police officer present did nothing when the rocks and fleeing Muslim youths were pointed out to him and told the group to keep going.I asked the officer if he saw what happened and he said he didn't know what I was talking about,Keren related. When I pointed at the rocks and the kids, who were just kind of sauntering off, not sure what the cop would do, he just asked if we'd been hit [by the stones]. When we told him no he just told us to 'keep going.' It probably woundn't have been a big deal if I was hit, but three of the ladies were elderly. He didn't do anything.Israel police spokesman Mickey Rosenthal said in every incident, whether on the Temple Mount or elsewhere, the safety of the public is an officer's first priority.
All incidents on the Temple Mount are investigated,Rosenthal told Israel National News. Whether then and there, or using other means later, is something that has to be assessed by the officers on the scene, but our first concern in any incident anywhere is the safety of the public.A lone officer with a group on the Mount has to put the group's safety ahead of making arrests. We have CCTV cameras on the Temple Mount that we can and will review just like we did with Friday's incident. We made several new arrests over the weekend in that incident and more are coming. 1,500-Year-Old Building Discovered in Akko

A 1,500-year-old public building dating to the Byzantine Period has been found in excavations conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) in the northern Israeli city of Akko.The building was found in an archaeological excavation the Israel Antiquities Authority conducted approximately 100 meters west of Tel Akko, and it is believed that it may have been used as a church.The large ashlar-built public building was found to have an abundance of roof tiles, parts of marble ornamentations, pottery, and coins, all of which point to a public structure that served the Bishop of Akko’s city in the Byzantine period. Terra cotta pipes survived below the wall levels and mosaic pavements adorned the floor in one of its rooms. The building’s inhabitants also had a readily available supply of water from a well that was situated in one of the courtyards of the building.According to Nurit Feig, director of the excavation on behalf of the IAA, Until now, the city was known from Christian sources which mention its bishop who took part in formulating the new religion. Now, the first tangible evidence is emerging in the field.She added that this is an important discovery for the study of Akko because until now no remains dating to the Byzantine period have been found, save those of a residential quarter situated near the sea.Early Christian sources mention the bishops of Akko and Caesarea who participated in major international conferences and meetings that dealt with formulating religious doctrine. This, along with evidence of an anonymous pilgrim from the city of Piacenza in Italy regarding the richness and splendor of the city in the year 570 CE in which he mentions the beautiful churches within its precincts, attest to the centrality of Akko for the Christian religion in this period.In the past, IAA has also uncovered a treasure trove of some 350 rare pieces of marble, hoarded beneath an ancient cellar floor during an excavation conducted approximately 100 meters north of the Old City wall of Akko.The unique find, which dates back to the Crusader period (the thirteenth century CE), is a collection of items that were gathered from buildings that had been destroyed.(Israel National News.com)

US intercepted N. Korea ship over arms fears

SEOUL (AFP) – The US Navy intercepted a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles or other weapons to Myanmar and made it turn back, a senior US official said Monday.The comments by Gary Samore, special assistant to President Barack Obama on weapons of mass destruction, confirmed reports of the incident, which happened last month, in The New York Times and South Korean media.The New York Times said the ship was intercepted south of the Chinese city of Shanghai by a US destroyer on May 26.In an interview with Yonhap news agency, Samore identified the cargo ship as the M/V Light and said it may have been bound for Myanmar with military-related contraband, such as small arms or missile-related items.We talked directly to the North Koreans. We talked directly to all the Southeast Asian countries including Myanmar, urging them to inspect the ship if it called into their port, he was quoted as saying.The US Navy also contacted the North Korean ship as it was sailing, to ask them where they were going and what cargo they were carrying.North Korea is subject to international and United Nations sanctions designed to curb its missile and nuclear programmes.UN Resolution 1874, adopted in June 2009, one month after the North's second nuclear test, toughened a weapons embargo and authorised member states to intercept such shipments.Another North Korean ship, the Kang Nam I, was forced to reverse course in 2009 after being suspected of trying to deliver military-related supplies to Myanmar.The New York Times said the Light was registered in Belize, whose authorities gave the United States permission to inspect the ship.

Russia objects to US warship in Black Sea

MOSCOW – Russia is voicing concern about a U.S. warship now just off its shores in the Black Sea.The guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey, which is taking part in annual joint military exercises conducted by NATO and Ukraine, is an integral part of U.S. plans to create a missile shield in Europe, which Russia opposes.Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement Sunday saying Russia has repeatedly stressed that we will not leave unnoticed any elements of U.S. strategic infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of our borders and will consider any such steps as a threat to our security.Russia agreed to consider NATO's proposal last fall to cooperate on the missile shield, but insisted the system be run jointly. EIN BOKEK, Israel – The Dead Sea is dying, goes the conventional wisdom: The water level of the fabled salty lake is dropping nearly 4 feet (1.2 meters) a year. Less well known: Part of the lake is actually overflowing, threatening one of Israel's key tourism destinations.Israel is feverishly campaigning to have the Dead Sea — the lowest point on earth and repository of precious minerals — named one of the natural wonders of the world. At the same time, it's racing to stabilize what it calls the world's largest natural spa so hotels on its southern end aren't swamped and tourists can continue to soak in the lake's therapeutic waters.Without intervention, in five to 10 years, (the water) would flood the hotel lobbies, no question, said Alon Tal, one of the researchers the government has commissioned to find a solution.
The Dead Sea is divided into a northern and southern basin, which are located at different elevations, largely disconnected and miles (kilometers) apart. That means the rising waters of the southern basin cannot simply pour into the shrinking basin in the north.Heavy industrialization is what's causing the waters on the southern basin to rise. Chemical companies have built evaporation pools there to extract lucrative minerals from the lake. Millions of tons of salt are left annually on the floor of these pools, causing the water to rise 8 inches (20 centimeters) a year.
Israel's tourism and environmental protection ministers are endorsing Tal's most expensive proposal: A complex $2 billion plan to chip off the salt buildup on the part of the lake that's rising and send it by conveyor belt to the northern end that's dropping.They're also demanding that Dead Sea Works Ltd. — the multibillion-dollar Israeli industry that mines the mineral-rich waters — foot the bill.As the polluters, they should pay, said Roee Elisha, associate director of the Dead Sea Preservation Government Company Ltd., a branch of Israel's Tourism Ministry.The Dead Sea, which is linked to the sites of the biblical Sodom and Gomorra, runs more than 60 miles (100 kilometers) through Israel, the West Bank and Jordan. Its minerals have been sought after since ancient times: The pharaohs were embalmed with the lake's natural asphalt lumps, and Cleopatra is said to have used its skin-rejuvenating salts and mud.Today, the lake is one of Israel's top tourism draws. Half of the 3.45 million tourists to Israel paid a stop there in 2010. Almost 200,000 stayed in the 4,000 hotel rooms along the lake. Locals flock there too, with more than 630,000 — or almost one in 10 Israelis — spending time at Dead Sea hotels last year.
Dead Sea tourism revenue totaled some $300 million last year, propping up an industry that accounts for thousands of jobs in a part of the country that otherwise offers limited employment opportunities.Current efforts to preserve the Dead Sea as a natural treasure shine a spotlight on how extensively the lake has been exploited by modern industry — and how it paradoxically also depends on industry for its survival.Israel's Dead Sea Works and Jordan's Arab Potash mine Dead Sea waters for potash and other minerals, exporting them worldwide for use in fertilizers, cosmetics, cars and laptops.The southern basin now in danger of flooding nearly dried up before the chemical companies intervened. In the 1960s, Dead Sea Works dug a 10-mile (16-kilometer) canal to pump saltwater from the lake's northern basin into its nearly parched southern end, turning it into a network of evaporation pools.That pool is where the bulk of the Israeli hotels lie, and where tourists bob in filmy water so heavy with salt and minerals that they float.But as the water rises, it encroaches on hotel beaches, where blobs of salt stick out near the shores and the salty floor sparkles in the turquoise waters. At one beach, stairs leading to the lake have become half-submerged, and a sun umbrella permanently affixed to the edge is now deep in the water.Dead Sea Works says it will foot some of the bill to dredge the salt from the evaporation pools and send it north, but is negotiating its share with the government, said Noam Goldstein, the company's vice president of infrastructure.Environmentalists accuse the company of profiting at the expense of the ecology. Early this morning, hours after a Shomron news agency publicized an internal anti-settler IDF directive, a large police force raided its offices, confiscated computers, and made two arrests.An unusually large force of 100 policemen arrived in Yitzhar, north of Tapuach in Samaria, and swooped down on the offices of HaKol HaYehudi (the Jewish Voice). Officials in Yitzhar say the raid is most certainly linked directly to the agency's publication of an IDF Division Head's memo against soldiers who live in Judea and Samaria (Yesha).The Jewish Voice reported yesterday on the internal letter by Brig.-Gen. Nitzan Alon, head of the Judea and Samaria Division in the IDF. The memo states that soldier-residents of the Jewish communities in Yesha must be interviewed in advance to ensure that they do not plan to leak advance information of planned outpost demolitions. He said their background must be carefully investigated, and that they must be deployed accordingly.Alon cited two incidents over the past several months in which soldiers are suspected of having leaked such information, thus preventing demolitions. The two soldiers were suspended, tried, and distanced from their units.

Maple Group goes hostile for TMX

TORONTO (Reuters) – Maple Group launched a C$3.7 billion ($3.8 billion) hostile bid for Toronto Stock Exchange operator TMX Group on Monday, an all-Canadian challenge to the London Stock Exchange's agreed bid.The Maple Group consortium's long-awaited official bid proposed C$48 a share cash for 70 percent of shares, compared with 60 percent in the original proposal nearly a month ago.The group, comprised of four leading banks, five top pension funds and four new institutional investors, said in a takeover circular to shareholders that its offer was superior in value and provided greater certainty for TMX shareholders.The C$3.7 billion figure is based on C$48 multiplied by the number of fully diluted shares, Maple said. Previously, the C$3.6 billion value of the proposed offer was calculated based on the number of basic shares outstanding.With less than three weeks left until investors vote for the LSE-TMX deal, the Canadian consortium urged shareholders to vote against its rival. Maple's bid dies if TMX shareholders vote for LSE's $3.4 billion offer on June 30.TMX Group shareholders should be aware that Maple's offer can only proceed if the LSE take-over plan does not, Luc Bertrand, Maple's chief spokesman and vice-chairman of Quebec-based National Bank, said in a statement.Unlike LSE shareholders, TMX investors do not get a second vote if there are conditions attached to any regulatory approvals that may come after June 30.
The consortium said in its circular that unlike LSE's all-stock offer, Maple's bid offers cash to shareholders and would maintain TMX's current dividend. It also disputed LSE and TMX's assertion that the transatlantic tie-up would enhance liquidity for Canadian capital markets.The heads of TMX and LSE, Tom Kloet and Xavier Rolet, said on Friday their bid was different from other transatlantic exchange tie-ups in that it focused on growth and building new businesses rather than cost and revenue savings.LSE's planned takeover must pass muster with the Canadian government, which will decide if it meets the terms of the Investment Canada Act, which says foreign takeovers must carry a net benefit to Canada.We think we're in quite good shape now, Kloet told a global exchanges conference hosted by Sandler O'Neill in New York on Friday. Strong quakes again rock shaken New Zealand city

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – Strong aftershocks rattled New Zealand's quake-devastated city of Christchurch again Monday, toppling one of the few buildings still standing downtown and sinking thousands of homes into darkness.Bricks crashed down in the cordoned-off city center, where only workers have tread since it was devastated in February's major earthquake. About 200 people were there when the quakes struck Monday, and two were briefly trapped in a church. More than 40 people have been taken to hospitals with minor injuries from falling debris, the city council said.We are being enveloped with dust, Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker told New Zealand's National Radio. It is very, very scary.All across the city, people fled buildings in panic when a 5.2-magnitude quake struck during lunchtime; just over an hour later, a 6.0 hit, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Smaller quakes were also recorded.
Several buildings were damaged in the central city and suburbs.All the shops have fallen down,said Renee Murray, who works at a Domino's Pizza in a suburb. Half of the roof has fallen in (but) they have not fully collapsed.Thousands of aftershocks have followed the 6.3-magnitude quake that killed 181 people on Feb. 22. That tremor and its aftershocks have been very shallow, which along with proximity to the city, have made the quakes very destructive. Monday's temblors were six miles (10 kilometers) deep, according to the USGS.About 47,000 homes in the city's eastern suburbs were without power Monday night, when temperatures were expected to approach freezing. Rocks tumbled down hills in the area, which was among the hardest hit in February, and silt bubbled from the earth — a process known as liquefaction that sometimes happens during a quake.After the February quake, 300,000 tons of silt had to be scraped away, and the silt alone made thousands of homes uninhabitable.On one road Monday, an SUV tipped front-first into a sinkhole that opened in the tarmac. A police car sank into another.Roger Sutton, chief executive of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, said the extra damage to the city center means some buildings that had been salvageable are now seriously damaged and will have to be brought down.
The group's demolition manager was driving (during the 6.0 quake), and there were buildings coming down in front of him, coming down behind him, Sutton said. He's very lucky to be alive.Two people who were injured were salvaging windows from St. John's Church when the facade, the last wall standing after February's quake, collapsed. Police said they were rescued and taken to a hospital with cuts and bruises.Another building nearby fell, according to police, and the dean of Christchurch Cathedral said the collapsed building suffered new damage.This has been a setback for Christchurch and its people, but it does not lessen our resolve to rebuild,Prime Minister John Key told reporters.The people of Christchurch should know all New Zealanders are thinking of them and will continue to support and stand by them in this very difficult time.New Zealand's earthquake monitoring service GNS Science says Monday's quakes were within a forecasted range but are likely to trigger new aftershocks themselves.

China prepares for more flooding as rain expected

BEIJING – More heavy downpours are forecast this week over central and southern China, where seasonal flooding has already killed more than 100 people, Chinese state media reported Monday.This month's rains have partially relieved the country's worst drought in half a century, while also causing landslides, toppling homes and cutting power supplies and telecommunications.Torrential rain is expected to sweep Hunan, one of the worst flood-hit provinces, from Monday evening until Friday, the province's flood control and drought relief headquarters said Monday.Compared with the last round, this time the area to be soaked is larger and the rainfall will be at least the same,said the headquarters' director, Bai Chaohai, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.The local government in Hunan said rainfall in some areas could be as high as 7 to 9 inches (180 to 220 millimeters).Bai said that soil in Hunan had become loose because of the drought, and areas including the mountainous western parts of the province were prone to mud-rock flows and landslides in heavy rain.Rain-triggered mountain torrents and mud-rock flows last week caused 36 deaths and left 21 missing in Hunan.The area affected by drought has halved since June 2 in the Yangtze River area of Hunan, neighboring Hubei and Jiangxi provinces, and Jiangsu and Anhui to the east, China's flood control agency said Monday.

Wildfire evacuation lifted for two Arizona towns

LUNA, New Mexico (Reuters) – Forest fire crews held the line on Sunday against a monster blaze in eastern Arizona despite another day of high winds and low humidity, allowing thousands of evacuees to return home and securing a New Mexico border town.
The so-called Wallow Fire displaced as many as 10,000 people at its peak and has scorched more than 680 square miles of Arizona's White Mountains, a mostly pine-studded region popular as a weekend getaway for families seeking to escape the summer heat.Much of the firefighting effort on the 15th day of the blaze focused on keeping flames from encroaching on Luna, New Mexico, a village of about 200 people at the edge of the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest near the fire's easternmost flank.This is without a doubt the biggest fire I've been on, by a longshot, said firefighter Rod Schultz, part of a crew from Utah who has worked for three days helping clear a buffer zone of tinder-dry brush and trees between the fire line and Luna.Staring out across a wide canyon to a steep, smoldering hillside that had been engulfed in flames hours earlier, Schultz said, It ripped pretty good last night.

Second Temple Mount Rock Attack

Arab youths Sunday morning hurled stones at Jewish worshipers who ascended the Temple Mount. The attack came just two days after Friday afternoon's stone throwing incident which forced the Israel Police to storm Judaism's holiest site.Yoel Keren, a Land of Israel activist and regular visitor on the Temple Mount, told Israel National News that the attack came during his weekly ascent.It was the morning aliyah, my regular Sunday time, around 7:45, Keren related.We went up... myself, attorney Baruch Ben Yosef, and four female [Jewish] worshipers.Keren said the group was accompanied by a member of the Israel Police and a Waqf official onto the edge of the platform of the Al Aqsa mosque.We were on the northern end of the platform of the mosque,Keren explained.Its closer [to the forbidden zone of the Mount] than most groups go, but still outside the halachic Temple Mount according to [Jewish sages] Radbaz, Rambam, Rav Tzvi Rogen... and most of the major archeologists,Keren explained.That's when I heard the rocks ricocheting near us and looked up to see three Arab kids throwing stones at us... kids from the school up there. They were about 20 meters away. I turned and asked Baruch if he saw it... and he had a rock at his feet.Keren said the Israel Police officer present did nothing when the rocks and fleeing Muslim youths were pointed out to him and told the group to keep going.I asked the officer if he saw what happened and he said he didn't know what I was talking about,Keren related. When I pointed at the rocks and the kids, who were just kind of sauntering off, not sure what the cop would do, he just asked if we'd been hit [by the stones]. When we told him no he just told us to 'keep going.' It probably woundn't have been a big deal if I was hit, but three of the ladies were elderly. He didn't do anything.Israel police spokesman Mickey Rosenthal said in every incident, whether on the Temple Mount or elsewhere, the safety of the public is an officer's first priority.
All incidents on the Temple Mount are investigated,Rosenthal told Israel National News. Whether then and there, or using other means later, is something that has to be assessed by the officers on the scene, but our first concern in any incident anywhere is the safety of the public.A lone officer with a group on the Mount has to put the group's safety ahead of making arrests. We have CCTV cameras on the Temple Mount that we can and will review just like we did with Friday's incident. We made several new arrests over the weekend in that incident and more are coming. 1,500-Year-Old Building Discovered in Akko

A 1,500-year-old public building dating to the Byzantine Period has been found in excavations conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) in the northern Israeli city of Akko.The building was found in an archaeological excavation the Israel Antiquities Authority conducted approximately 100 meters west of Tel Akko, and it is believed that it may have been used as a church.The large ashlar-built public building was found to have an abundance of roof tiles, parts of marble ornamentations, pottery, and coins, all of which point to a public structure that served the Bishop of Akko’s city in the Byzantine period. Terra cotta pipes survived below the wall levels and mosaic pavements adorned the floor in one of its rooms. The building’s inhabitants also had a readily available supply of water from a well that was situated in one of the courtyards of the building.According to Nurit Feig, director of the excavation on behalf of the IAA, Until now, the city was known from Christian sources which mention its bishop who took part in formulating the new religion. Now, the first tangible evidence is emerging in the field.She added that this is an important discovery for the study of Akko because until now no remains dating to the Byzantine period have been found, save those of a residential quarter situated near the sea.Early Christian sources mention the bishops of Akko and Caesarea who participated in major international conferences and meetings that dealt with formulating religious doctrine. This, along with evidence of an anonymous pilgrim from the city of Piacenza in Italy regarding the richness and splendor of the city in the year 570 CE in which he mentions the beautiful churches within its precincts, attest to the centrality of Akko for the Christian religion in this period.In the past, IAA has also uncovered a treasure trove of some 350 rare pieces of marble, hoarded beneath an ancient cellar floor during an excavation conducted approximately 100 meters north of the Old City wall of Akko.The unique find, which dates back to the Crusader period (the thirteenth century CE), is a collection of items that were gathered from buildings that had been destroyed.(Israel National News.com)

US intercepted N. Korea ship over arms fears

SEOUL (AFP) – The US Navy intercepted a North Korean ship suspected of carrying missiles or other weapons to Myanmar and made it turn back, a senior US official said Monday.The comments by Gary Samore, special assistant to President Barack Obama on weapons of mass destruction, confirmed reports of the incident, which happened last month, in The New York Times and South Korean media.The New York Times said the ship was intercepted south of the Chinese city of Shanghai by a US destroyer on May 26.In an interview with Yonhap news agency, Samore identified the cargo ship as the M/V Light and said it may have been bound for Myanmar with military-related contraband, such as small arms or missile-related items.We talked directly to the North Koreans. We talked directly to all the Southeast Asian countries including Myanmar, urging them to inspect the ship if it called into their port, he was quoted as saying.The US Navy also contacted the North Korean ship as it was sailing, to ask them where they were going and what cargo they were carrying.North Korea is subject to international and United Nations sanctions designed to curb its missile and nuclear programmes.UN Resolution 1874, adopted in June 2009, one month after the North's second nuclear test, toughened a weapons embargo and authorised member states to intercept such shipments.Another North Korean ship, the Kang Nam I, was forced to reverse course in 2009 after being suspected of trying to deliver military-related supplies to Myanmar.The New York Times said the Light was registered in Belize, whose authorities gave the United States permission to inspect the ship.

Russia objects to US warship in Black Sea

MOSCOW – Russia is voicing concern about a U.S. warship now just off its shores in the Black Sea.The guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey, which is taking part in annual joint military exercises conducted by NATO and Ukraine, is an integral part of U.S. plans to create a missile shield in Europe, which Russia opposes.Russia's Foreign Ministry issued a statement Sunday saying Russia has repeatedly stressed that we will not leave unnoticed any elements of U.S. strategic infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of our borders and will consider any such steps as a threat to our security.Russia agreed to consider NATO's proposal last fall to cooperate on the missile shield, but insisted the system be run jointly. EIN BOKEK, Israel – The Dead Sea is dying, goes the conventional wisdom: The water level of the fabled salty lake is dropping nearly 4 feet (1.2 meters) a year. Less well known: Part of the lake is actually overflowing, threatening one of Israel's key tourism destinations.Israel is feverishly campaigning to have the Dead Sea — the lowest point on earth and repository of precious minerals — named one of the natural wonders of the world. At the same time, it's racing to stabilize what it calls the world's largest natural spa so hotels on its southern end aren't swamped and tourists can continue to soak in the lake's therapeutic waters.Without intervention, in five to 10 years, (the water) would flood the hotel lobbies, no question, said Alon Tal, one of the researchers the government has commissioned to find a solution.
The Dead Sea is divided into a northern and southern basin, which are located at different elevations, largely disconnected and miles (kilometers) apart. That means the rising waters of the southern basin cannot simply pour into the shrinking basin in the north.Heavy industrialization is what's causing the waters on the southern basin to rise. Chemical companies have built evaporation pools there to extract lucrative minerals from the lake. Millions of tons of salt are left annually on the floor of these pools, causing the water to rise 8 inches (20 centimeters) a year.
Israel's tourism and environmental protection ministers are endorsing Tal's most expensive proposal: A complex $2 billion plan to chip off the salt buildup on the part of the lake that's rising and send it by conveyor belt to the northern end that's dropping.They're also demanding that Dead Sea Works Ltd. — the multibillion-dollar Israeli industry that mines the mineral-rich waters — foot the bill.As the polluters, they should pay, said Roee Elisha, associate director of the Dead Sea Preservation Government Company Ltd., a branch of Israel's Tourism Ministry.The Dead Sea, which is linked to the sites of the biblical Sodom and Gomorra, runs more than 60 miles (100 kilometers) through Israel, the West Bank and Jordan. Its minerals have been sought after since ancient times: The pharaohs were embalmed with the lake's natural asphalt lumps, and Cleopatra is said to have used its skin-rejuvenating salts and mud.Today, the lake is one of Israel's top tourism draws. Half of the 3.45 million tourists to Israel paid a stop there in 2010. Almost 200,000 stayed in the 4,000 hotel rooms along the lake. Locals flock there too, with more than 630,000 — or almost one in 10 Israelis — spending time at Dead Sea hotels last year.
Dead Sea tourism revenue totaled some $300 million last year, propping up an industry that accounts for thousands of jobs in a part of the country that otherwise offers limited employment opportunities.Current efforts to preserve the Dead Sea as a natural treasure shine a spotlight on how extensively the lake has been exploited by modern industry — and how it paradoxically also depends on industry for its survival.Israel's Dead Sea Works and Jordan's Arab Potash mine Dead Sea waters for potash and other minerals, exporting them worldwide for use in fertilizers, cosmetics, cars and laptops.The southern basin now in danger of flooding nearly dried up before the chemical companies intervened. In the 1960s, Dead Sea Works dug a 10-mile (16-kilometer) canal to pump saltwater from the lake's northern basin into its nearly parched southern end, turning it into a network of evaporation pools.That pool is where the bulk of the Israeli hotels lie, and where tourists bob in filmy water so heavy with salt and minerals that they float.But as the water rises, it encroaches on hotel beaches, where blobs of salt stick out near the shores and the salty floor sparkles in the turquoise waters. At one beach, stairs leading to the lake have become half-submerged, and a sun umbrella permanently affixed to the edge is now deep in the water.Dead Sea Works says it will foot some of the bill to dredge the salt from the evaporation pools and send it north, but is negotiating its share with the government, said Noam Goldstein, the company's vice president of infrastructure.Environmentalists accuse the company of profiting at the expense of the ecology. 9 Then shall he bring with a bullock a meat offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil.
10 And thou shalt bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
11 Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid.
12 According to the number that ye shall prepare, so shall ye do to every one according to their number.
13 All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
14 And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as ye do, so he shall do.
15 One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as ye are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.
16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth with you.

29 Ye shall have one law for him that sinneth through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them.
30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.
34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
37 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:
39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring:
40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.
41 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them?
12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them;)
14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17 And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

HEBREWS 3:7-19
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
