WARN THE PEOPLE-WW3
EZEKIEL 33:1-6
1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them,
When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man
of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4
Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not
warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon
his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not
warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall
deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow
not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and
take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but
his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with

41 He shall
enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be
overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,
and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and

10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the
realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor
planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
EZEKIEL 31:10-17
10
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his
heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him
into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal
with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And
strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left
him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen,
and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the
people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
14To
the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for
their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither
their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they
are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the
midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.(HELL).
15Thus
saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods
thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn
for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16 I made
the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to
hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the
choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in
the nether parts of the earth.
17They also went down into hell with
him unto [them that be] slain with the sword; and [they that were] his
arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
18To
whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of
Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the
nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the
uncircumcised with [them that be] slain by the sword. This [is] Pharaoh
and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
EZEKIEL 32:17-32
17
It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the
month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
18 Son of
man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her,
and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the
earth, with them that go down into the pit.
19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.
20
They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she
is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
21 The
strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with
them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain
by the sword.
22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
23
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round
about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused
terror in the land of the living.
24 There [is] Elam (IRAN) and all
her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the
sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the
earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have
they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
25 They
have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her
graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the
sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet
have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put
in the midst of [them that be] slain.
26 There [is] Meshech,
Tubal,(RUSSIA) (GERMANY, TURKEY) and all her multitude: her graves [are]
round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though
they caused their terror in the land of the living.
27And they shall
not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, which
are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid
their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their
bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the
living.
28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword.
29
There [is] Edom,(JORDAN) her kings, and all her princes, which with
their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall
lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
30
There [be] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the
Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they
are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that
be] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to
the pit.
31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all
his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith
the Lord GOD.
32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the
living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with
[them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his
multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:

7 Be thou prepared, and

thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be
visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is
brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against
the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is
brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of
them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a
cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with
thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall
also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy
mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt
say,(RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) I will go up to the land of unwalled

all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

15 And
thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many
people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a
mighty army:
16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel,
as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I
will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I
shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every

come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do
sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel,
that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM
ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood
of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of
bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall
see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon
them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I
saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood
all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many
of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction –
men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children
of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final
judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken
in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no
more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

5 soldiers
killed, several more hurt amid fighting with Hezbollah in southern
Lebanon-Slain troops were members of Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance
unit; IDF spokesman says terror operatives captured during same battle;
Hezbollah declares new ‘escalatory phase’-By Lazar Berman,ToI Staff and
Agencies 18 October 2024, 2:14 am
Five soldiers from the Golani
Brigade’s reconnaissance unit were killed amid the ground offensive in
southern Lebanon, the military announced Thursday, as Hezbollah
threatened to escalate attacks against Israel. The soldiers were named as
company commander Maj. Ofek Bachar, 24, from Nes Ziona; team commander
Capt. Elad Siman Tov, 23, from Tzofim; squad leader Staff Sgt. Elyashiv
Eitan Wieder, 22, from Jerusalem; Staff Sgt. Yakov Hillel, 21, from
Jerusalem; and Staff Sgt. Yehudah Dror Yahalom, 21, from Hebron.Another
officer and two soldiers were seriously injured in the incident. A
number of other soldiers were seriously hurt during separate battles in
southern Lebanon. In one incident, an officer and two combat engineers
from the Etzioni Brigade’s 8173rd Battalion were seriously injured, as
was another soldier from the battalion’s logistical unit. The injuries
came from an anti-tank missile attack.A soldier from the 12th Battalion
of the Golani Brigade was also seriously hurt in a firefight with
Hezbollah fighters. In the southern Gaza Strip, a soldier from the 450th
Battalion of the Bislamach Brigade, the same battalion that killed Hamas
leader Yahya Sinwar on Wednesday, was also seriously injured in a
battle with terrorists. The injured were brought to hospitals, and the
families of the killed and injured were all notified, said the
IDF.During a press conference Thursday night, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm.
Daniel Hagari said Golani soldiers captured Hezbollah operatives during
the battle in which the five troops were killed.Hezbollah meanwhile
declared that it was launching a new phase in its war against Israel,
saying it was using precision-guided missiles to target troops. In a
statement, the Iran-backed group “announces a transition to a new and
escalatory phase in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy, which will
be reflected in the developments and events of the coming days.”The
statement was issued after Israel said troops killed Sinwar, but made no
mention of the Hamas chief.Hezbollah said “hundreds of fighters…are
fully prepared to counter any Israeli ground incursion into southern
Lebanese villages,” noting that attacks against Israel have increased in
recent days.It also said its rocket strikes continue “to escalate day
by day,” with “precision-guided ones…being deployed for the first
time.”Earlier, legislator Hassan Fadlallah said the aim of the terror
organization’s military command is to keep fighting “with all available
means” to prevent Israel from achieving its goals and to eventually
agree on a ceasefire.“Our goal today is to end the aggression. We will
not go into any detail related to the mechanism or solutions,” he told
reporters, when asked whether Hezbollah still insists that it will only
stop fighting once the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza stops.Fadlallah also
asserted Israel has not been able to push deeper into Lebanon, stop
Hezbollah rocket fire or create the conditions for its citizens to
return to communities in the north near the border, which Israel last
month made an official war aim.“Until now, the enemy has been unable to
take full control of any village,” Fadlallah told the press conference
at Lebanon’s parliament.Israeli forces just “destroy, shoot and run,” he
went on, saying Hezbollah fighters are battling troops who have invaded
Lebanese territory by only a few “meters.”Hezbollah had said it was
engaged in close combat with Israeli forces near the border as videos
circulating on social media purported to show Israeli flags raised in
Lebanese frontier towns.AFP could not independently verify the
authenticity of the footage.Israel launched the ground offensive in
southern Lebanon weeks after adding to its official war goals the return
home of some 60,000 displaced northern residents. Fearing a Hezbollah
onslaught in the north, Israel evacuated the residents shortly after
thousands of Hamas-led terrorists stormed southern Israel on October 7,
2023, to kill nearly 1,200 people and take 251 hostages, sparking the
war in Gaza.A day later, Hezbollah-led forces began attacking border
communities and military positions on a near-daily basis, with the
terror group saying it was doing so in support of Gaza. The attacks on
northern Israel over the past year have killed 28 civilians, and 43 IDF
soldiers have been killed in the attacks and ensuing ground operations
in Lebanon. The Lebanese government has said that Israeli strikes have
killed over 2,400 people in Lebanon over the last year, mainly in the
last few weeks. According to the IDF, the toll includes at least 960
Hezbollah operatives.
IDF recovered Sinwar’s DNA in tunnel
complex where 6 hostages were executed-Israeli forces determined several
weeks ago that the Hamas chief had been in underground room near where
the slain Israelis were found in late August-By Lazar Berman-and Jessica
Steinberg-18 October 2024, 12:36 am
The IDF found Hamas leader
Yahya Sinwar’s DNA some weeks ago in a Rafah tunnel which was in the
same complex as — but a few hundred meters from — a separate tunnel
where six Israeli hostages were murdered in late August, The Times of
Israel learned on Thursday.IDF and Shin Bet forces were searching the
tunnel, which was part of the same complex in which the six hostages
were killed, and found a room that they believed senior Hamas commanders
may have used. They took DNA samples from the underground room and found
that some of it belonged to Sinwar, but were not able to pin down when
he was there. The mastermind behind Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack, which
started the ongoing war, Sinwar was long reported to have surrounded
himself with hostages, from among the 251 people kidnapped during the
assault. When news of his death broke on Thursday, Israeli officials were
quick to specify that no hostages had been found in his vicinity. An
unsourced report on Channel 12 said that Sinwar had previously been
hiding with the six hostages, and that the firefight on Wednesday in
which he was killed along with two bodyguards took place in the same
area where the hostages were held and killed.Sinwar likely gave the
order to kill the six hostages as he fled the area, the report
added.Hostages Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Alex
Lobanov, Carmel Gat, and Almog Sarusi are believed to have been executed
by their captors on August 29, before being discovered by troops less
than two days later. The tunnel where their bodies were found was a
narrow 120-meter-long passageway — not tall enough to stand in without
bending over — that connected parts of a large underground network in
the Tel Sultan neighborhood, which according to the IDF belonged to
Hamas’s Rafah Brigade.Gil Dickmann, Carmel Gat’s cousin, called on the
government and world leaders to leverage Sinwar’s death to negotiate the
immediate release of the remaining 101 hostages.“We don’t know if he
pulled the trigger, or ordered their deaths, it’s devastating to us and
shows how close we were to getting them out,” said Dickmann, at a press
conference.“We don’t know for how long they were held together or with
Sinwar or the conversations they were having. Now all six are gone and
so is Sinwar, but when the six were murdered we said we don’t know who
murdered them and don’t care about revenge, we care only about bringing
back the 101 hostages.”Sinwar was widely seen as a major obstacle to a
deal, and world leaders have urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to
use the opportunity to negotiate the remaining captives’ release. It is
believed that 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7
remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 34 confirmed dead by
the IDF.Hamas released 105 civilians during a weeklong truce in late
November, and four hostages were released before that. Eight hostages
have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies of 37 hostages have
also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military
as they tried to escape their captors.Hamas is also holding two Israeli
civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies
of two IDF soldiers who were killed in 2014.Emanuel Fabian contributed

Kamala Harris: Justice has been served-World
leaders welcome Sinwar’s death, hope it will precipitate hostage deal,
end to war-Biden says it’s ‘a good day’ for the world, calls Netanyahu
to congratulate him; German, British, NATO officials say Hamas leader,
architect of October 7 attack, will not be missed-By Jacob Magid,ToI
Staff and Reuters Today, 11:52 pm-OCT 17,24
US President Joe
Biden on Thursday welcomed the news that Israeli troops had killed Hamas
leader Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of the terror group’s October 7
attack on Israel, in a firefight in Gaza.“This is a good day for Israel,
for the United States, and for the world,” Biden said in a
statement.“To my Israeli friends, this is no doubt a day of relief and
reminiscence, similar to the scenes witnessed throughout the United
States after President Obama ordered the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden in
2011.”Biden called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from aboard Air
Force One to congratulate him. “The US president praised the IDF and
their excellent work,” the Prime Minister’s Office said. Both leaders
agreed that there was an opportunity now to move toward a hostage deal,
and that they would work together to achieve one, it said.In his
statement, the president connected Sinwar’s death to American
intelligence support, saying, “With our intelligence help, the IDF
relentlessly pursued Hamas’s leaders, flushing them out of their hiding
places and forcing them onto the run.”Though Israel has worked hard to
track down Sinwar, his death in a firefight on Wednesday was not part of
a specific effort to target him, and he was not identified until after
he was killed. The terror leader’s elimination “proves once again that no
terrorists anywhere in the world can escape justice, no matter how long
it takes,” Biden said.Biden called on Israel to leverage the Hamas
leader’s death to return the remaining hostages held captive by the
terror group and end the war, noting that “Hamas is no longer capable of
carrying out another October 7.”“There is now the opportunity for a
‘day after’ in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political
settlement that provides a better future for Israelis and Palestinians
alike. Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all of
those goals. That obstacle no longer exists. But much work remains
before us.”US Vice President Kamala Harris, running to succeed Biden,
said that “justice has been served, and the United States, Israel, and
the entire world are better off as a result.”“He had American blood on
his hands. Today, I can only hope that the families of the victims of
Hamas feel a sense and measure of relief,” the vice president
continued.“And I will say, to any terrorist who kills Americans,
threatens the American people, or threatens our troops, or our
interests, know this: we will always bring you to justice.”British
Defense Secretary John Healey said that he “will not mourn” Sinwar.“I,
for one, will not mourn the death of a terror leader like Sinwar —
someone who was responsible for the terror attack on October 7.”The
attack, in which thousands of Hamas-led terrorists killed some 1,200
people and took 251 hostages, “triggered not just the darkest, deadliest
day for the Jewish people since the Second World War, but [also]
triggered more than a year of conflict and an intolerable level of
civilian Palestinian casualties,” Healey said. His comments were echoed
by NATO chief Mark Rutte, who told reporters, “If he has died, I
personally will not miss him,” noting that “every reasonable soul” has
condemned the October 7 attack.US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was
reportedly passed a note about the Hamas leader’s demise at the same
NATO meeting that preceded Rutte’s comments.German Foreign Minister
Annalena Baerbock welcomed the news, saying in a statement, “Yahya
Sinwar was a brutal murderer and terrorist who was bent on eradicating
Israel and its people.”“As mastermind behind the October 7 terror
attacks, he brought death to thousands of people and immeasurable
suffering across an entire region.”“Hamas must now immediately release
all hostages and lay down its weapons; the suffering of the people in
Gaza must finally end,” Baerbock said.US Secretary of State Antony
Blinken, meanwhile, spoke with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman al-Thani about Sinwar’s death, and its implications for a
potential hostage deal to free the 101 remaining captives, living and
dead, held by Hamas in Gaza.My statement on the IDF eliminating the
leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar:Justice has once again been served by the
brave men and women of the Israeli military. Yahya Sinwar, the vile,
disgusting person who orchestrated the October 7th massacre, is dead.

17, 2024-US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson issued a
lengthy statement welcoming the death of Sinwar, declaring on X,
“Justice has once again been served by the brave men and women of the
Israeli military.”“Sinwar’s life was the embodiment of evil and marked
by hatred for all that is good in the world. His death brings hope for
all those who seek to live in freedom, and relief to Israelis he has
sought to oppress,” Johnson continued. The Republican speaker urged the
White House to capitalize on Sinwar’s death to “work in tandem with
Israel to apply a maximum pressure campaign against the head of the
snake: Iran,” which supports Hamas and other terror groups in the
region, including Hezbollah.“Despite the Biden-Harris Administration
condemning his strategies, Prime Minister Netanyahu has produced
multiple watershed victories for Israel such that we are on the
precipice of a new day of security and freedom in the Middle East. We
cannot let this moment go to waste,” he said.Senate Majority Leader
Chuck Schumer, a Democrat and the highest-ranking Jewish elected
official in American history, also welcomed the news.“Sinwar has the
blood of countless innocents in Israel and Gaza on his hands, and the
world is a much better place without him. For decades, he has pursued an
extremist and dead-end path of uber-violent terrorism and destruction,”
he said in a statement.“Let his death be a message to all who seek to
terrorize Israel and the Jewish people,” he continued.“Sinwar in his
beliefs and actions have caused so much pain to the Israeli and
Palestinian people; and I pray that his elimination from the scene will
clear a path to urgently and immediately bring home all the hostages —
including the 7 Americans — and negotiate an end to hostilities that
will ensure the security of the Israeli people and provide full
humanitarian relief and a new path forward for the people of Gaza.”I

prominent supporter of Israel, posted early on as news broke of the
terror leader’s potential death that “We are awaiting official
confirmation of the status of Sinwar’s corpse rotting in hell where he
belongs.”The congressman later posted a message to “American Media,”
asking news outlets not to whitewash Sinwar in their coverage of his
death, following harshly criticized obituaries of other eliminated
terror leaders.“Please do not eulogize Yahya Sinwar as a ‘father figure’
or a ‘moral compass’ or a ‘charismatic orator’ or an Abrahamic
egalitarian fighting for ‘the equality of Muslims, Jews, and
Christians.’ Sinwar’s legacy of barbaric bloodlust has been deadly for
Israelis and even deadlier for Palestinians. He died as he lived — a

Minister Antonio Tajani, slated to visit Israel on Monday, responded to
Sinwar’s death at a press conference Thursday.“It seems that the
military leader of Hamas has been killed, and I believe that, from this
point of view, Israel may have fulfilled its self-defense action against
the Hamas terrorists,” Tajani said.“I hope that the demise of the Hamas
leader will lead to a ceasefire in Gaza. I will tell this to the
Israeli leadership on Monday, asking for a ceasefire in Gaza and
Lebanon,” he added.
Israel said to view Sinwar’s death as
singular opportunity to advance hostage deal-Families demand progress
after Hamas leader’s death, say there will be no victory without loved
ones’ return; Hawkish Tikvah Forum calls for increased military
pressure-By ToI Staff and Agencies Today, 11:02 pm-OCT 18,24
Families
of hostages held captive in Gaza on Thursday welcomed the killing of
Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar while urging the government to leverage his
death to secure an immediate deal for the release of their loved ones
after over a year in captivity.Reacting to the killing of the terror
chief, the Hostages Families Forum expressed “appreciation for the
significant achievement” but said it still had “grave concern for the
fate of the 101 hostages who are still being held captive by Hamas in
Gaza.” As such, it called on the government to “leverage the military
achievement to secure an immediate deal to bring about their return.”The
comments came amid reports that Israeli hostage negotiators were
engaged in intensive discussions on revitalizing the long-stalled talks,
viewing the Hamas leader’s death as a unique and potentially brief
opportunity to finally secure a deal.“New ideas are being floated. We
need to act fast and we will,” a senior official told Channel 12.Sinwar
was widely seen as a major obstacle to a deal, unwilling to compromise
on stiff demands unacceptable to Israel that contributed to negotiations
repeatedly hitting brick walls over the past year.According to multiple
reports in Hebrew media outlets Thursday, Israeli officials hoped the
blow to Hamas morale and disorientation caused by Sinwar’s demise could
encourage his successors to reach a deal to ensure their survival, or
push operatives holding hostages to hand them in.Apparently seeking to
motivate such action, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense
Minister Yoav Gallant and others urged Hamas men on Thursday evening to
hand in hostages to save themselves.Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden
agreed during a call Thursday night that there was an opportunity now
to move toward a hostage deal, and that they would work together to
achieve one, the Prime Minister’s Office said.In a recording aired by
Channel 12 Thursday evening, Gallant told relatives of hostages he
believed Sinwar’s death would help advance a deal. The families forum
said: “For over a year now, the Israeli government has not been able to
leverage the unprecedented security achievements in the fighting in Gaza
to bring about the release of the hostages.”“The elimination of Sinwar
is an important milestone on the way to the real victory, which will
only be achieved with the return of the 101 abductees,” the statement
continued. “There isn’t and will not be a total victory without the
release of all 101 abductees.”Einav Zangauker, whose son Matan is
captive in Gaza, warned that “Israel may have settled the score with the
arch-murdered Sinwar, but now, more than ever, the lives of my son
Matan and other hostages are in tangible danger.”Recalling that
“Netanyahu, Gallant and the chief of staff have already said themselves
that Hamas has been defeated militarily,” Zangauker appealed for them to
“leverage the achievements and translate the elimination [of Sinwar]
into a political development that will bring our loved ones home.”She
warned if the government did not take this step, it would be proof that
Netanyahu “has decided to abandon” her son and the other 100 hostages
“with the aim of prolonging the war and consolidating his rule.”Without
citing sources, Hebrew media outlets reported Thursday that security
officials now believed Sinwar had previously been hiding with the six
hostages whose bodies were recovered by the IDF on August 31 after they
were executed.Channel 12’s Nir Dvori said it is thought that as military
forces neared his location, Sinwar ordered the six killed before
fleeing.Sinwar was killed on Wednesday in an exchange of fire with IDF
forces in Gaza’s Rafah, apparently after emerging from a hiding place in
the Strip’s underground tunnels. The military did not target him and
did not know it had killed him until approaching the body after the
firefight.Officials assured hostages’ families Thursday that there was
no indication that any hostages had been in Sinwar’s vicinity when he
died.Speaking to Channel 13 from a protest in Tel Aviv, Zangauker
addressed Netanyahu with additional remarks.“Prime Minister, since
October 7, you have been saying that Sinwar is the obstacle to a deal,”
she said. “Now that he is eliminated, it is time for you to show
leadership, put a new proposal on the table and bring Matan and all the
hostages home. No more excuses.” — כולנו חטופים (@Kulanu_Hatufim)
October 17, 2024-Like Zangauker, Avi Marciano, the father of slain
hostage Noa Marciano, welcomed Sinwar’s death but said he considered it
“a measure of justice but not consolation.”“A year after I hugged Noa
for the last time, the monster who had the blood of all our daughters on
his hands has finally been sent to the gates of hell,” he said. “It’s a
measure of justice, but not consolation. Consolation will come when
[the other female soldier hostages] Naama, Liri, Agam, Daniella and
Karina return home. They and all the other hostages have been wallowing
in Gaza’s tunnels for over a year.“What is important is the lives of our
hostages and not the death of monsters,” he stressed. In Tel Aviv,
Sinwar’s death became the central focus of a pro-hostage deal rally that
had been scheduled ahead of time. Two protesters held signs above the
crowd reading “I refuse to celebrate death, I’m waiting to celebrate
life,” while another held a sign proclaiming that “The picture of
victory is the final hostage, not Sinwar in a coffin.”A smaller protest
was also organized near Netanyahu’s private residence in
Caesarea.Meanwhile, the hawkish Tikva Forum, which represents hostage
families who favor military action to return their loved ones rather
than a ceasefire deal, said in a celebratory statement that their
“prayers were answered and the mass murderer Sinwar was eliminated by
our heroic forces.”“Now that the head of the snake has been cut off — we
must finish the job and destroy the body as well,” the forum continued,
confirming that its stance had not changed in light of Sinwar’s death.
“Precisely now — we must increase the military pressure, occupy maximum
territory and stop the ongoing supply of aid to Hamas terrorists.“When
Hamas is on its knees begging for a deal, we can consider a deal that
will return all the hostages together.”In the aftermath of Sinwar’s
killing, Axios reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had
discussed the matter with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin
Abdulrahman al-Thani and that the two had also discussed hostage deal
efforts.Negotiations had all but ground to a halt in recent weeks, and
Al-Thani said on Wednesday that there had been no talks with Hamas for
“three to four weeks.”He said that there had been “no conversation or
engagement at all” on the issue, and that mediators were “just moving in
the same circle with silence from all parties.”The New York Times
reported last week that Sinwar’s attitude had actually “hardened,” and
as such, US mediators now believed “Hamas has no intention of reaching a
deal with Israel.”Blinken also phoned President Isaac Herzog on
Thursday to congratulate him on the killing of Sinwar, according to an
Israeli readout.Blinken told Herzog that the killing brings justice to
Sinwar’s victims and stressed that the world is a better place with him
gone, Herzog’s office said.Herzog told Blinken that Israel’s top
priority is now freeing the remaining 101 hostages, adding that there is
now “an important opportunity” to do so following Sinwar’s
killing.Blinken informed Herzog that he is considering visiting the
region again soon in light of the killing, the Israeli readout
added.Still, Mossad chief David Barnea is said to have remained in
contact with Qatari mediators, and earlier this week, the Walla news
site reported that Shin Bet director Ronen Bar had met with Egyptian
officials on the matter.A November 2023 deal between Israel and Hamas,
brokered in a joint effort by Egypt, Qatar and the US, saw the release
of 105 of the 251 hostages Hamas took during its October 7 attack, when
it murdered some 1,200 people. In exchange for the hostages, fighting was
paused in Gaza for as week as women, children, and non-Israeli hostages
were released, and as Israel released female and minor Palestinian
prisoners from its jails.Ongoing attempts since then to broker a deal
for the release of the remaining hostages still held captive by Hamas
have repeatedly failed as Israel and the terror group accused each other
of sabotaging negotiations. The US has repeatedly said that Hamas was
the main obstacle to an agreement.Throughout the year of war in Gaza,
the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 42,000 people in the
Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting, though the
toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and
fighters.Israel says it has killed some 17,000 combatants in battle as
of August and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.Israel
has said it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities and stresses that
Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian
areas including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.Israel’s toll in
the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations
along the border with the Strip stands at 355.
Today, we showed
world the victory of the good over the evil-Full text of Netanyahu’s
address after killing of Hamas terror chief Yahya Sinwar-PM says Oct. 7
architect ‘was eliminated when he fled in panic’ from IDF; tells those
holding hostages to put down their weapons and they can live; says war
is not yet finished-By ToI Staff Today, 10:42 pm-OCT 17,24
Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s video statement after the killing of Hamas
leader Yahya Sinwar, October 17, 2024.Citizens of Israel, a year ago we
celebrated the festival of Sukkot. At exactly that moment, Yahya Sinwar
was making the final preparations for the slaughter of October 7.I
stand before you today to tell you that Yahya Sinwar has been
eliminated. The one who carried out the worst massacre in the history of
our people since the Holocaust, the mass murderer who murdered
thousands of Israelis, abducted hundreds of our people, was eliminated
today by our heroic soldiers.Today, as we promised we would, we settled
accounts with him.Today, evil suffered a heavy blow, but our mission is
not yet completed. To the dear hostage families, I say: This is an
important moment in the war. We will continue with full force until all
your loved ones — our loved ones — are returned home. That is our
supreme obligation. That is my supreme obligation-To the residents of
Gaza, I say: Sinwar destroyed your lives. He told you he was a lion but
in practice, he hid in a dark tunnel and was eliminated when he fled in a
panic from our soldiers. His elimination is an important milestone in
the demise of the Hamas axis of evil.I want to say again as clearly as
possible: Hamas will not rule again in Gaza. This is the beginning of
the day after Hamas, and this is an opportunity for you, residents of
Gaza, to finally be free of its tyranny. To the terrorists of Hamas, I
say: Your leaders are fleeing and will be eliminated.I say to all those
who are holding our hostages: Those who put down their weapons and leave
our hostages, we will allow them to come out and live. And by the same
token, I say, those who harm our hostages, his blood is on his head and
we will settle accounts with him.The return of the hostages is an
opportunity to achieve all of our goals, and it brings the end of the
war nearer. To the people of the region, I say: In Gaza, in Beirut, in
the streets of the entire area, the darkness is withdrawing and the
light is rising.Deif, Haniyeh, Sinwar, Nasrallah, Mohsen, Aqil and many
of their partners are no more.I call on you, peoples of the region: We
have a great opportunity to thwart the axis of evil and to create a
different future, a future of peace, a future in which the entire region
thrives. Together we can push away the curse and advance the
blessing. It’s now clear to all, in Israel and the world, why we insisted
not to stop the war — why we insisted, in the face of all the
pressures, yes to go into Rafah, the fortified stronghold of Hamas,
where Sinwar and many of the mass-murderers were hiding.I want to
express deep appreciation to the fighters of the IDF and the Shin Bet,
and their commanders, for their determined and brave operations. There
are none better than them.Today we again showed what happens to those
who hurt us. Today, we again showed the world the victory of the good
over the evil. But the war, the war, my dear ones, is not yet finished.
It is harsh and it takes a heavy price from us. I want to send from the
bottom of my heart my condolences to those who have lost their loved
ones. I want to embrace the families of our fallen heroes. Their
ultimate sacrifice, including in these very days, brings us closer to
victory. As King David said, “I will pursue my enemies and destroy them.
And I will not turn back until they are wiped out.”Citizens of Israel,
we are in the war of revival. We still face immense challenges. We need
stamina, unity in the ranks, courage, determined resilience. Together we
will fight and with God’s help, together we will win
From Negev
to Mars: Inhayle wins startup program to shoot for NASA-led space
mission-Israeli developer of air and surface disinfection tech wins
grant from space accelerator program that helps place it in the Artemis
program to land astronauts on the moon and Mars-By Sharon Wrobel-Today,
8:24 pm-OCT 17,24
Itai Benartzi’s father died after acquiring an
infection following a hospital stay. Years later, the tragic loss drove
Benartzi — who left the public sector two years ago after a decade-long
career where he last served as the head of policy of the Israel National
Cyber Directorate — to create technology that has an impact on
real-life problems and health safety.Last year, Benartzi co-founded
Inhayle, an Israeli startup that develops technology to purify and
disinfect air and surfaces from bacteria and germs in indoor spaces,
from hospitals to space stations. After emerging as the winner of
Israel’s space accelerator program Expand earlier this month, the Tel
Aviv-based startup is gearing up to be able to deploy its technology for
astronauts on deep-space exploration missions led by NASA in the coming
years.Following years of research and development led by its co-founder
and director of technology Effy Shaarabany, Inhayle was established in
late 2023 by Shaarabany together with Benartzi and Dr. Israel Biran.
Then during the October 7 massacre, Shaarabany’s 21-year-old daughter
Sivan was murdered by Hamas terrorists at the Nova music festival.“Sivan
was meant to join our operations, and despite facing a profound
personal loss with the tragic murder of his daughter, Shaarabany decided
to continue in her memory, honoring her spirit,” Benartzi told The
Times of Israel. “We are developing while we cry, which is the story of
many Israeli startups in these challenging times — it’s hard, but we
move forward.”The startup developed a multi-spectrum disinfection system
that generates and emits ozone-free hydroxyl radicals to neutralize
volatile organic compounds (VOCs), bacteria, mold, and viruses in
enclosed environments.Hydroxyl radicals are atmospheric oxidants that
act as natural air quality detergents, as they can inhibit pollutants.
The natural molecules are formed in the atmosphere when sunlight strikes
ozone in the presence of water vapor.“The problem is that they are not
found indoors, since there is no sunlight,” said Benartzi. “What our
patented technology manages to create are active hydroxyl radicals in
the same high concentration found outdoors.”“We are transforming indoor
air quality with a system that mimics the natural outdoor air
chemistry,” he added.Benartzi explained that the chemical-free system
developed by Shaarabany uses an electric technique to create a lightning
storm that generates ozone only within the startup’s machine and “our
patent is to convert the entirety of the ozone into hydroxyl radicals.”
The machine is connected to the central air ventilation system and blows
out hydroxyl radicals.“This is not another air purifier that sucks in
indoor air and passes it through a filter and pushes clean air back into
the room,” said Benartzi. “Our disinfection system transforms the air
composition in enclosed environments to resemble the earth’s natural
atmosphere’s defense mechanisms to fight bacteria and pollutants
accumulating on surfaces in real-time with people present.”In addition
to typical airborne contaminants, Inhayle’s hydroxyl radicals also
address pollutants like methane, carbon monoxide, and residual
byproducts from for example open-space fires, he added.Inhayle has
trialed its disinfection system at Netanya’s Dorot Geriatric Center, a
public hospital that treats many patients with compromised immune
systems. The need for constant air and surface purification in high-risk
environments such as hospitals, where pollutants like bacteria,
viruses, and VOCs accumulate, has become even more pressing amid
estimates that by 2050 more people will die from infections than from
cancer.“Months into the proof of concept in a hospital setting in the
respiratory care unit and a complex nursery, we achieved a disinfection
rate of over 90 percent with our prototype,” said Benartzi. The startup
is now set to do the same for space habitats and lunar bases, which have
low concentrations of hydroxyl radicals, Benartzi said.“This deficiency
leaves enclosed spaces vulnerable to the buildup of pollutants like
bacteria, VOCs, and other hazardous compounds, creating substantial
health risks for astronauts who are 400,000 kilometers [roughly 250,000
miles] away from earth,” said Benartzi.Over the summer, Inhayle was one
of five Israeli startups in the first cohort of the Expand space-tech
accelerator, which were selected out of 50 applicants in fields such as
construction, robotics, food, and health technologies. The startups
received support and mentorship from experts at the Israel Space Agency,
including consultants that lead Israel’s collaboration with NASA.In
2022, Israel officially signed onto the Artemis space program to land
astronauts on the lunar surface and establish a long-term human presence
on the moon as a precursor for future missions to Mars. The program is
led by NASA in partnership with the European Space Agency, US commercial
spaceflight operators, and other participating nations’ space
agencies.Expand is the flagship program of Creation-Space run together
with startup catalyst for the Negev region Tech7, which raised $1
million from US investment fund CreationsVC. It was launched earlier
this year in Mitzpe Ramon, a town in southern Israel’s Negev Desert
close to the Ramon Crater, to help integrate early-stage startups into
NASA’s Artemis program for exploration and colonization of the moon and
Mars. Mitzpe Ramon, chosen for its Mars-like terrain, serves as the
accelerator’s base and is part of a broader effort to turn the town into
a space innovation hub, boosting the Negev’s economy.Out of the five
startups, Inhayle was handpicked by a panel of space tech executives and
investors to receive a NIS 100,000 ($26,000) R&D grant for being a
“great fit for the Artemis program and space exploration because its
advanced disinfection technology addresses the unique challenges of
maintaining air and surface quality in confined environments like lunar
bases.”“The Inhayle team is tackling real-world and space challenges
with a solid solution, and I’m confident they will establish a strong
presence in both markets,” said Lion David, vice president of ventures
at Creation-Space. “Our program is one of the toughest, and companies
that succeed here prove they can deliver value on Earth and in space,
giving investors confidence in their success.”Benartzi said that winning
the grant “is meant to push forward as much validation as we need from
the market and from space experts in order to get into the Artemis
program.”Over the next 24 months, Inhayle is seeking to raise $3 million
in seed capital to initiate a space experiment in preparation for its
first space-based deployment and complete regulatory approvals to expand
to the US market.“About five years from now on, Inhayle will hopefully
be a standard solution for any space vehicle going up,” said Benartzi.
Yahya
Sinwar: Radical Islamist ideologue utterly committed to Israel’s
destruction-An early member of Hamas, he was initially known for his
brutal treatment of suspected collaborators and rose in the ranks to
lead the group and orchestrate the Oct. 7 slaughter-By ToI Staff and
Agencies 17 October 2024, 5:53 pm
Israeli officials expressed
growing certainty Thursday afternoon that a terror operative killed in
exchanges of fire with Israeli forces in Gaza in the past day was Hamas
leader Yahya Sinwar, on the run since the devastating October 7, 2023
attacks on Israel.Sinwar, the mastermind behind the Oct. 7 massacres,
had been in hiding in Gaza for the past year, defying Israeli attempts
to kill him since the start of the war.He was seen as Israel’s top
target since the murderous attack that constituted the deadliest day in
Israel’s history.Sinwar was announced as the new leader of Hamas in
early August following the assassination of former leader Ismail Haniyeh
in Tehran, which was ascribed to Israel. Sinwar, who spent half his
adult life in Israeli prisons, was the most powerful Hamas leader left
alive following the assassination of Haniyeh.Sinwar was born in 1962 in a
refugee camp in the Gaza town of Khan Younis. He was an early member of
Hamas, which was formed in 1987, adopting the group’s radical Islamist
ideology, which seeks to eliminate Israel and establish an Islamic state
in its place. He eventually led the group’s security arm, which worked
to purge it of spies for Israel.Israel arrested him in the late 1980s
and he admitted to killing 12 suspected collaborators, a role that
earned him the nickname “The Butcher of Khan Younis.” He was sentenced
to four life terms for offenses that included the killing of two Israeli
soldiers.Sinwar organized strikes in prison to improve working
conditions. He also studied Hebrew and Israeli society and was seen as
having a deep understanding of it.He survived brain cancer in 2008 after
being treated by Israeli doctors.Sinwar was released from prison in
2011 by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu along with some 1,000 other
prisoners, as part of an exchange for Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who
was captured by Hamas in a 2006 cross-border raid.Sinwar was unrepentant
about the Oct. 7 attacks after a year of war, people in contact with
him said, despite unleashing an Israeli invasion in Gaza and a war that
killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, laid waste to his Gaza
homeland and rained destruction on ally Hezbollah. For Sinwar, “armed
struggle” remained the only way to force the creation of a Palestinian
nation, four Palestinian officials and two sources from governments in
the Middle East said.Sinwar’s grip on Hamas remained unwavering after a
year of war, despite some signs of dissent among Gazans.Dubbed “The Face
of Evil” by Israel, Sinwar operated in secrecy, moving constantly and
using trusted messengers for non-digital communication, according to
three Hamas officials and one regional official.Over months of failed
ceasefire talks led by Qatar and Egypt, that focused on swapping
prisoners for hostages, Sinwar was the sole decision-maker, three Hamas
sources said. Negotiators would wait for days for responses filtered
through a secretive chain of messengers.Hamas’s ideology views Israel
not only as a political rival but as an occupying force on Muslim land.
Seen in this light, hardships and suffering were often interpreted by
Sinwar and his followers as part of a larger Islamic belief of
sacrifice, experts on Islamic movements say. Before the war, Sinwar would
sometimes tell of his early life in Gaza during decades of Israeli
control of the Strip, once saying his mother made clothes from empty UN
food-aid sacks, according to Gaza resident Wissam Ibrahim, who has met
him.In a semi-autobiographical novel written in prison, Sinwar described
scenes of troops bulldozing Palestinian houses, “like a monster
crushing its prey’s bones.”His understanding of the everyday hardships
in Gaza was well-received by Gazans and made people feel at ease, four
journalists and three Hamas officials said, despite his fearsome
reputation and explosive anger.Sinwar was regarded by Arab and
Palestinian officials as the architect of Hamas’s strategy and military
capabilities, bolstered through his strong ties with Iran, which he
visited in 2012.Nabih Awadah, a former Lebanese Communist militant who
was imprisoned with Sinwar in Ashkelon between 1991-95, said the Hamas
leader viewed the 1993 Oslo peace accords between Israel and the
Palestinian Authority as “disastrous” and a ruse by Israel, which he
said would only relinquish Palestinian land “by force, not by
negotiations.”Calling him “willful and dogmatic,” Awadah said Sinwar
would light up with joy whenever he heard of attacks against Israelis by
Hamas or Lebanon’s Hezbollah group. For him, military confrontation was
the only path “to liberating Palestine” from Israeli occupation.Awadah
said Sinwar was an “influential model to all prisoners, even those who
were not Islamists or religious.”Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, but
under Sinwar Hamas focused immense manpower and monetary efforts on
turning the Strip into a base of operations from which to work to
destroy the Jewish state, building a massive network of underground
tunnels, weapons caches and rockets from which to wage war. Before
orchestrating the Oct. 7 raids Sinwar made no secret of his desire to
strike his enemy hard. In a speech the year before, he vowed to send a
flood of fighters and rockets to Israel, hinting at a war that would
either unite the world to establish a Palestinian state on land Israel
captures in 1967, or leave the Jewish nation isolated on the global
stage.By the time of the speech, Sinwar and Hamas military chief
Muhammad Deif (who was eliminated by Israel in July 2024) had already
hatched secret plans for the assault. They were even running training
drills in public that simulated such an attack. His goals have not been
fulfilled. While the issue is once again at the top of the global
agenda, the prospect of a Palestinian nation is as distant as
ever.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has categorically
rejected a post-war plan for Gaza that would include a firm timeline for
the establishment of a Palestinian state, saying any such talk now
would be a reward for terror.Michael Koubi, a former official with
Israel’s Shin Bet security agency who interrogated Sinwar for 180 hours
in prison, said Sinwar clearly stood out for his ability to intimidate
and command.Koubi once asked the terrorist, then aged 28 or 29, why he
was not already married. “He told me Hamas is my wife, Hamas is my
child. Hamas for me is everything.” Sinwar married after his release
from prison in 2011 and had three children.
Hamas leader and Oct.
7 mastermind Yahya Sinwar killed by IDF troops in Gaza-IDF confirms
terror chief was shot dead in Rafah firefight Wednesday; troops spotted
body Thursday and Sinwar’s identity was formally confirmed after tests;
no hostages at location-By ToI Staff and Agencies 17 October 2024, 5:10
pm-OCT 17,24
Israel on Thursday night announced that IDF troops
had killed Hamas terror chief Yahya Sinwar in Gaza.Sinwar, architect of
the October 7 Hamas invasion and slaughter in southern Israel, was
killed in a firefight in Rafah, in southern Gaza, on Wednesday, the
Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security agency said.He was not being
directly targeted, and troops only realized that one of the three
terrorists killed in the incident was apparently Sinwar when they
inspected the scene on Thursday morning.Confirmation that the body was
indeed Sinwar was finalized on the basis of DNA and other testing. Part
of Sinwar’s finger was removed for expedited testing as the location was
booby-trapped. His body was extracted and brought to Israel later
Thursday. In a joint statement, the IDF and Shin Bet said Israel’s
military activities gradually constricted Sinwar’s area of operations,
ultimately leading to his death. The statement said that over the past
few weeks, the 162nd Division and Gaza Division operated in Gaza in
areas where intelligence indicated senior Hamas officials were hiding. A
force from the 828th Bislamach Brigade killed Sinwar and the other two
terrorists, it said. After the three terrorists were spotted, fired at
and injured, two headed into one building and the third, who turned out
to be Sinwar, went into another, the military said. The other two
terrorists were apparently bodyguards of Sinwar’s and had been moving in
front of him, clearing his way.IDF tanks and other forces opened fire
on both buildings.Sinwar then went up to the second floor. A tank fired
another shell at the building, and an infantry platoon moved up to
search. Sinwar threw two grenades, one of which exploded. The soldiers
withdrew, and a drone flew in to search the room. It found a man with
his arm injured and his face covered — Sinwar — who threw a wooden stick
at the drone. Another tank shell was fired at the man, killing him.On
Thursday morning, troops searching the building looked at the face of
the slain terrorist whom the drone had spotted, and noticed that he
resembled Sinwar. The Shin Bet took DNA and part of his finger to verify
his identity. No hostages were with Sinwar at the time.IDF Spokesman
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari confirmed in a Thursday night press conference
that the military “identified him as a terrorist in a building” and did
not know it was Sinwar. “We fired on the building and went in to search.
We found him with a flak jacket and a gun and NIS 40,000.”Sinwar had
apparently been moving around in the tunnels in the area for some time,
Hagari said. He was probably attempting “to escape to the north, to
safer areas” as the IDF closed in.“He was fleeing from house to house,
we identified him as a terrorist, we closed in professionally and
eliminated him.”Hagari said that Israel was actively searching for
Muhammad Sinwar, brother of the slain Hamas leader, and all Hamas
military commanders. The IDF on Thursday night published drone footage of
the injured Sinwar’s final moments.Drone Footage showing the Leader of
Hamas, Yahya Sinwar armed with a Stick and hiding behind several Chairs

2024-As he was wearing a head covering during the firefight, his
identity only became clear after he was killed. The army noted that there
were no hostages present in the area where the three terrorists were
killed.Photos circulating on social media (Warning, link contains
graphic images) showed Sinwar’s body.“The IDF and Shin Bet forces
operating in the area continue to operate under the necessary caution,”
the army said in an initial statement on Thursday afternoon.“At this
time, the identity of the terrorists cannot be confirmed,” the IDF said
in that statement, issued after rumors relating to the incident began
spreading widely online.Rafah location said near place where six
hostages were murdered-According to an unsourced report on Channel 12,
Sinwar had previously been hiding with the six hostages who were
executed by their Hamas captors on August 29 and whose bodies were
recovered by the IDF on August 31 — Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, Eden
Yerushalmi, 24, Ori Danino, 25, Alex Lobanov, 32, Carmel Gat, 40, and
Almog Sarusi, 27.It said Sinwar likely gave the order to kill the six as
he fled.It said the firefight on Wednesday took place in the same area
as the six hostages were held and killed. It also said that the IDF had
checked when the six hostages’ bodies were recovered whether terrorists
killed in the area had included Sinwar. This was found not to be the
case, but indications, including DNA evidence, were found at the time
that Sinwar had been in the area.IDF Spokesman Hagari confirmed on
Thursday night that the IDF was tracking Sinwar for months, and that his
DNA had been found in a tunnel a few hundred meters from where Hamas
murdered the six hostages in August.Channel 12 said the body suspected
to be that of Sinwar was not immediately brought back to Israel because
the area where it was found was heavily booby-trapped. The body also had
a military vest carrying grenades. As the assessment that Israel had
killed Sinwar grew, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant tweeted, “We will
reach every terrorist and eliminate them.”Quoting the biblical book of
Leviticus, Gallant added, “You will pursue your enemies, and they will
fall before you by the sword.”The defense minister attached photos of
former Hamas military chief Muhammad Deif and Hezbollah leader Hassan
Nasrallah with Xs over them along with a third photo that is blacked
out, but also had an X through it.“You will pursue your enemies and they
will fall before you by the sword.” – Leviticus 26-Our enemies cannot

October 17, 2024-US President Joe Biden was briefed on the killing of
Sinwar, and US officials were in close contact with Israeli officials,
according to a senior administration official.Architect of October 7-The
leader of Hamas in Gaza since 2017, Sinwar was the architect of the
October 7, 2023, invasion and massacre in southern Israel, in which
thousands of Hamas-led terrorists killed some 1,200 people and took 251
hostage, sparking the ongoing war in Gaza. Ninety-seven of the hostages
are still held captive in Gaza. The terror chief became leader of Hamas
after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in a Tehran blast in July, when he
was selected by Hamas’s 50-strong Shura Council, a consultative body
composed of officials elected by Hamas members in four chapters: Gaza,
the West Bank, the diaspora and security prisoners in Israeli jails.Born
in the Khan Younis refugee camp in southern Gaza, Sinwar joined Hamas
when Sheikh Ahmed Yassin founded the group around the time the first
Palestinian intifada began in 1987.Sinwar set up the group’s internal
security apparatus the following year and went on to head an
intelligence unit dedicated to flushing out and mercilessly punishing —
sometimes killing — Palestinians accused of providing information to
Israel.According to a transcript of an interrogation with security
officials published in Israeli media, Sinwar — the “butcher of Khan
Younis” — professed to have strangled an alleged collaborator with a
keffiyeh in a cemetery in that city.A graduate of the Islamic University
in Gaza, he learned perfect Hebrew during his 23 years in Israeli
jails. He was serving four life terms for the killing of two Israeli
soldiers, as well as four Palestinians he suspected of cooperating with
Israel, when he became the most senior of 1,027 Palestinian security
prisoners released in exchange for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit in
2011.He had received life-saving brain surgery while he was a prisoner,
as recounted by the dentist who identified the tumor in a New York
Times article in May. That same dentist’s nephew was killed on October
7.Sinwar reportedly recently renewed contact with mediators for a
potential hostage-ceasefire deal after weeks of silence that had stirred
speculation he might have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.In
February, the IDF released footage of what it said was Sinwar walking
through a Gaza tunnel with several of his family members.“The hunt for
Sinwar will not stop until we catch him, dead or alive,” IDF Spokesman
Daniel Hagaeri said in a press conference upon releasing the
footage.Terror command center strike-Earlier, in an apparently separate
incident, the military said it carried out a precision airstrike against
Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists operating a command and
control room from a building formerly used as a school in northern
Gaza. The IDF named 12 terrorists who were present at the Abu Hassan
School, adding that they were involved in launching rockets at Israel
and attacks on troops. The military said it took steps to limit harm to
uninvolved citizens in the strike. At least 19 Palestinians including
children were killed in the strike, an official from the Hamas-run Gaza
health ministry told Reuters. The terror group’s figures could not be
verified and do not differentiate between civilians and
combatants.Dozens were also injured in the strike, said the official,
Medhat Abbas, adding: “There is no water to extinguish the fire. There
is nothing.”Separately, the IDF said troops found a chalkboard with
statements written by terrorists praising the October 7 massacre in a
classroom during its ground incursion in northern Gaza’s Jabaliya.Troops
in the 401st Brigade have eliminated dozens of terrorists through
airstrikes and close-quarters urban combat since the incursion began
earlier this month, the military said, releasing footage of the
strikes. In the raid of the school, troops found dozens of weapons,
explosives, mortars, and ammunition. The war in Gaza was sparked by
Hamas’s onslaught on October 7, 2023. Israel’s counteroffensive has
killed more than 42,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run health
ministry. The figure cannot be verified and does not distinguish between
civilians and combatants. Israel said it had killed some 17,000
combatants in battle as of August, and another 1,000 terrorists inside
Israel during the October 7 onslaught.
Report: Blinken mulling
post-war Gaza plan to present after US elections-Axios reports Israel,
UAE asked top US diplomat to help bridge differences for joint proposal
regarding Palestinian Authority involvement in Gaza-By ToI Staff 17
October 2024, 3:24 pm
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is
trying to coordinate a post-war plan for Gaza to be presented after the
US presidential elections next month based on ideas offered by Israel
and the United Arab Emirates, Axios reported on Wednesday citing unnamed
US, Israeli, Palestinian, and Emirati officials.According to the US
officials, Blinken and others in the State Department believe that in
the absence of a deal that would see Hamas hostages freed alongside a
ceasefire in Gaza, an organized post-war plan would be the push needed
to begin ending the war in the Palestinian enclave.Having failed to help
broker an end to the war during his term, a successful post-war plan
would be seen as US President Joe Biden’s administration’s legacy, Axios
said. The plan Blinken is considering has reportedly caused internal
fighting in the US State Department as officials have disagreed over
various concerns, including that the plan would marginalize Palestinian
Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and other Ramallah officials. Both
Israel and the UAE are seeking to keep Abbas out of the plan, with the
Emirati sources accusing him of corruption and dysfunction, but the two
nations differ on PA involvement in Gaza beyond Abbas. The UAE reportedly
wants to replace Abbas and PA Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa with a
new “empowered and independent” Palestinian figure who would lead the
post-war transition in Gaza, but Israel is strongly opposed to any
immediate PA involvement, according to US and Israeli officials.Israel,
however, does not have the US’s support on this point with one State
Department official telling Axios that “we will not support a day-after
plan without a role for the Palestinian Authority in Gaza. How that role
could look like is still under discussion.”The issue could be less of a
problem than it seems as three officials told The Times of Israel in
July that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was more amenable in private
to discussing PA involvement in post-war Gaza even though he continued
to oppose it publicly.Israeli officials told Axios in the Wednesday
report that another point of contention was that the UAE wanted the plan
to be based on a vision for a two-state solution between Israel and the
Palestinians, but that Netanyahu was not even willing to consider
it.Meanwhile, a PA official told Axios that Ramallah was “highly
suspicious” of the Israeli-Emirati plan and doesn’t think it would be
supported throughout the region.“Playing with Gaza governance is too
dangerous. Any mistake could kill the Palestinian national project,” he
said.Planning for post-war Gaza has received a new push in recent
months, officials told Axios, with Strategic Affairs Minister Ron
Dermer, Blinken, and UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed holding a
secret meeting in Abu Dhabi in July.According to Axios, the UAE and
Israel have asked Blinken to help settle the disagreements between the
two Middle Eastern nations. The Israeli and Emirati embassies in
Washington, DC, declined Axios’s request for comment. The war in Gaza has
been ongoing for more than a year since Hamas’s unprecedented October 7
attack on Israel in which terrorists murdered some 1,200 people and
took 251 hostages. In response, Israel launched a ground operation in the
Gaza Strip with the proclaimed objectives of dismantling Hamas and
securing the release of the hostages. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry
says more than 40,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are
presumed dead in the fighting so far, though the toll cannot be verified
and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters. Israel says
it has killed some 17,000 combatants in battle as of August and another
1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.Israel has said it seeks to
minimize civilian fatalities and stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s
civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas including
homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.Israel’s toll in the ground
offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the
border with the Strip stands at 355.
Macron criticized from
within his party: Comments 'unworthy'‘Ignorance of history’: Unease in
France over Macron’s comments on Israel’s founding-Senior right-wing
politician slams ‘ignorance of the history’; in interview with French
outlet, Netanyahu accuses French president of ‘distressing distortion of
history’ and ‘disrespect’By AFP 17 October 2024, 2:44 pm
PARIS,
France – Emmanuel Macron’s comments that Israel owes its existence to a
UN resolution have sparked unease in France, with the president being
rebuked by the upper house speaker but also facing disquiet from within
his ranks. The remarks attributed to Macron during a cabinet meeting
Tuesday that Israel needed to adhere to UN resolutions in its campaigns
in Lebanon and Gaza as it was created by the world body have angered
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But there has also been a strong
reaction within France, home to Europe’s largest Jewish community, with
Jewish groups, political heavyweights and even Macron allies speaking
out against the comments.International affairs are one of the few
remaining areas where Macron, who is attending an EU summit in Brussels
on Thursday, enjoys political leeway following this summer’s legislative
elections which resulted in the centrist overseeing a distinctly
right-wing government.“It first of all shows an ignorance of the history
of the birth of the State of Israel,” Gerard Larcher, the right-wing
speaker of the upper house Senate, told Europe 1 radio. “Questioning the
existence of Israel touches on fundamental questions for me,” he
said.“I was astounded that these remarks could be made,” he added,
arguing that the creation of Israel “did not come as a notarial act
merely validated by the UN.”Larcher would take over the presidency if
centrist Macron was incapacitated or suddenly resigned. He is a senior
figure in the right-wing Republicans (LR) party to which French Prime
Minister Michel Barnier also belongs.‘Distortion of history’“Mr
Netanyahu must not forget that his country was created by a decision of
the UN,” Macron told the weekly French cabinet meeting. The president was
referring to the resolution adopted in November 1947 by the United
Nations General Assembly on the plan to partition Palestine into a
Jewish state and an Arab state.“Therefore this is not the time to
disregard the decisions of the UN,” he added, as concern grows over
Israeli fire on UNIFIL peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. Israel has said
that UNIFIL is not its target as it strives to dismantle Hezbollah’s
infrastructure, and Netanyahu urged the peacekeeping force to withdraw
from the area while the IDF was operating there.Macron’s comments from
the closed-door meeting at the Elysee Palace were quoted by two
participants who spoke to AFP and asked not to be named. In a blistering
attack that is highly unusual from an establishment figure in France,
Larcher questioned if Macron had taken account of the 1917 British
Balfour Declaration, which supported the creation of a Jewish homeland,
and even the Holocaust and its consequences.Larcher added Macron had
created “doubt” with his comments and while he “did not suspect him of
anything, I say that Israel’s right to exist is neither debatable nor
negotiable.”Netanyahu has hit back at Macron, saying the country’s
founding was achieved by the 1948 War of Independence, not a UN
ruling. He also said that among those who fought for Israel in 1948 were
French Jews who had been sent to death camps after being rounded up by
the collaborationist Vichy regime, which governed a large part of France
during the Nazi occupation in World War II.In an interview with
France’s Le Figaro daily published Thursday, Netanyahu accused Macron of
a “distressing distortion of history” and “disrespect.”‘International
rules’Caroline Yadan, a lawmaker for Macron’s centrist party, said the
comments attributed to the president were “unworthy.”“Reducing Israel to
a single UN decision is to deny the history of the Jewish people and
its legitimate and historical connection to this land,” she wrote on X.
“What does this statement imply? That what the UN has done, the UN can
undo? Is this a warning? Parliamentary sources told AFP that Macron’s
comments had sparked strong reactions within his own Renaissance
party.“There are some rather heated discussions,” prominent Renaissance
MP Sylvain Maillard confirmed to AFP, saying about 10 deputies were in a
messaging group on the issue.A former minister, asking not to be named,
added: “There have been monstrous arguments.”Government spokeswoman
Maud Bregeon insisted on Thursday that Macron’s remarks needed to be
looked at in their full context.“He recalled the need for everyone to
respect international rules. Israel must respect them,” she told Sud
Radio. She added Macron had been “at the side of Israel and the Israeli
people for a year and since the terrorist attacks of October 7” when
Palestinian terrorist group Hamas launched its attack on Israel in which
some 1,200 people were killed and 251 hostages were taken, that sparked
the Gaza war.Times of Israel contributed to this report.

fire across north; Kiryat Shmona building hit, no injuries-German UNIFIL
warship downs drone off Lebanon coast; IDF kills Hezbollah commander-PM
says military found ‘state-of-the-art’ Russian arms in Hezbollah bases;

A German warship operating as
part of the United Nations’ UNIFIL mission brought down an unmanned
flying object off the coast of Lebanon on Thursday, a spokesperson for
the German defense ministry said.“The corvette brought an unidentified
unmanned aerial vehicle into the water in a controlled crash,” the
spokesperson told Reuters, adding that there was no damage or injuries
to the German vessel or its crew. The corvette Ludwigshafen am Rhein is
continuing its duties, the spokesperson added. There were no further
details given. The drone interception comes amid tensions between Israel
and UNIFIL, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu angering European
allies in recent days by insisting that the international peacekeeping
force leave its posts in southern Lebanon to avoid getting caught in the
crossfire between Israel and Hezbollah. The IDF says its operations in
Lebanon have targeted Hezbollah posts, but their proximity to UN
peacekeepers and members of the Lebanese army has led to several
accidental strikes on the latter two groups. Netanyahu has accused
Hezbollah of using UNIFIL positions as cover while it attacks
Israel.Meanwhile, Netanyahu told a French newspaper in an interview
published Thursday that Israeli forces had found “state-of-the-art”
Russian weapons in searches of Hezbollah bases in south
Lebanon.Netanyahu highlighted to Le Figaro newspaper that under a 2006
UN Security Council resolution only the Lebanese army was allowed to
have weapons south of the country’s key Litani River. That resolution
tasked UNIFIL with helping ensure Israel was not threatened by Hezbollah
from south Lebanon.“However, in this area, Hezbollah has dug hundreds
of tunnels and caches, where we have just found a quantity of
state-of-the-art Russian weapons,” the French article quoted Netanyahu
as saying.“A new civil war in Lebanon would be a tragedy. It is
certainly not our aim to provoke one. Israel does not intend to
interfere in Lebanon’s internal affairs,” Netanyahu told Le Figaro. “Our
only aim is to allow our citizens living along the Lebanon frontier to
go home and feel safe.”As the IDF’s ground operation widens, the
military said Thursday that it killed a Hezbollah battalion commander in
the southern Lebanese Bint Jbeil district. The military said Hussein
Muhammed Auda was responsible for rocket fire on Israel originating from
several towns in the district, a Hezbollah stronghold.Additionally,
airstrikes killed 45 terrorists and destroyed 150 Hezbollah sites over
the past day, including weapons stores, rocket launchers and buildings
used for military purposes, according to the army.Explosions were heard
in east Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley on Thursday shortly after the military’s
Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee called on residents of the village of
Tamnine El Tahta to evacuate.Adraee said the military would strike
strategic facilities and interests belonging to Hezbollah located in the
area, and that residents nearby should evacuate for their own safety.A
map of the area to be targeted was posted on X and a short time later,
explosions were heard in the area.Meanwhile terrorists in Lebanon
continued to fire rockets at northern Israel overnight and into Thursday
morning, with multiple projectiles intercepted.A barrage of some 30
rockets was fired at the Upper Galilee. Some were intercepted, while
others landed in open areas.A short time later, two more rockets were
fired from Lebanon, triggering sirens across northern Israel, including
towns in the Haifa area. Air defenses shot down one rocket while the
other fell in an open area, the military said. No injuries were reported
in the attack. There was also rocket fire at multiple communities closer
to the northern border. In the early hours of the morning, a rocket
fired by Hezbollah struck a building in the northern city of Kiryat
Shmona. There were no injuries. The recent escalation in fighting came
after Israel added to its official war aims the return home of some
60,000 displaced northern residents. Fearing a Hezbollah onslaught in
the north, Israel evacuated the residents shortly after thousands of
Hamas-led terrorists stormed southern Israel on October 7, 2023, to kill
nearly 1,200 people and take 251 hostages, sparking the war in Gaza.A
day later, Hezbollah-led forces began attacking border communities and
military positions on a near-daily basis, with the terror group saying
it was doing so in support of Gaza. The attacks on northern Israel over
the past year have killed 28 civilians, and 38 IDF soldiers have been
killed in the attacks and ensuing ground operations in Lebanon. The
Lebanese government has said that Israeli strikes have killed at least
2,300 people in Lebanon over the last year, mainly in the last few
weeks. According to the IDF, the toll includes at least 960 Hezbollah
operatives.Drone from Iraq-Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces said
Thursday it identified “a suspicious aerial target that crossed [into
Israeli territory] from the east,” a term it has previously used to
refer to attacks from Iraq. The IDF added that it was looking into the
matter, without specifying whether the suspected drone was downed. The
statement from the military came shortly after sirens were activated in
two southern communities near the Jordanian border, and as air raid
alerts were activated further to the west in the Negev mountains
area. The Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in Iraq later claimed it
launched a drone attack on Israel’s southernmost city of Eilat.
US
stealth bombers hit Houthi underground weapons depots in apparent
warning to Iran-Long-range B-2 plane reported used in Yemen strike for
first time; US Defense Secretary Austin says op shows ability to target
enemies’ facilities that are seemingly out of reach-By AP 17 October
2024, 8:45 am
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — US long-range B-2
stealth bombers launched airstrikes early Thursday morning targeting
underground bunkers used by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, officials said.It
wasn’t immediately clear what damage was done in the strikes. However,
there are no previous reports of the B-2 Spirit being used in the
strikes targeting the Houthis, who have been attacking ships for months
in the Red Sea corridor over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, as
well as launching direct attacks on Israel. The Houthis’ al-Masirah
satellite news channel reported airstrikes around Yemen’s capital,
Sanaa, which the group has held since 2014. They also reported strikes
around the Houthi stronghold of Saada. They offered no immediate
information on damage or casualties.US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin
said in a statement that the B-2 bombers targeted “five hardened
underground weapons storage locations in Houthi-controlled areas of
Yemen.”The strike also appeared to be an indirect warning to Iran, the
Houthis’ main benefactor, which has targeted Israel with ballistic
missile attacks twice over the past year. The B-2 would be used in any
American attack on hardened Iranian nuclear facilities like Natanz or
Fordo given it is the only aircraft in service that can drop the GBU-57,
known as the “Massive Ordnance Penetrator.”“This was a unique
demonstration of the United States’ ability to target facilities that
our adversaries seek to keep out of reach, no matter how deeply buried
underground, hardened, or fortified,” Austin said.Austin and the US
military’s Central Command offered no immediate assessment of the damage
done. However, Central Command said in a statement that initial
assessments suggested no civilians had been killed. The Red Sea has
become a battlefield for shippers since the Houthis began their campaign
targeting ships traveling through the waterway, which once saw $1
trillion of cargo pass through it yearly.Houthis have targeted more than
80 merchant vessels with missiles and drones since the war in Gaza
started in October 2023, triggered by the Hamas attack on Israel.Houthis
have seized one vessel and sunk two in the campaign that has also
killed four sailors. Other missiles and drones have either been
intercepted by a US-led coalition in the Red Sea or failed to reach
their targets, which have included Western military vessels. In response
to the Houthi attacks, a US-led coalition has carried out airstrikes in
Yemen, and Israel has attacked the port of Hodeida. The latter serves as
a key location for delivery of aid and commercial goods which are
critical as the country is reliant on imports. The rebels maintain that
they target ships linked to Israel, the US or the United Kingdom to
force an end to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. However, many of the ships
attacked have little or no connection to the conflict, including some
bound for Iran. The Houthis also continue to launch missiles and drones
targeting Israel and have shot down a number of US military MQ-9 Reaper
drones. The rebels have threatened new attacks in response to Israel’s
ground invasion of Lebanon and its killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan
Nasrallah.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
Israeli
strike said to target weapons depot in Syria’s Latakia-Syrian state
media says 2 injured; video appears to show large secondary explosions,
suggesting presence of arms at targeted site; no comment from IDF-By
Agencies and ToI Staff 17 October 2024, 8:26 am
Syrian state
media said Thursday an Israeli air strike hit the coastal city of
Latakia, targeting a weapons depot according to a war monitor. Two people
were injured and buildings were damaged, state media reported citing a
military statement.SANA claimed that Syrian anti-aircraft defense
intercepted “hostile targets” in the skies above Latakia. The news agency
reported “fires were triggered by the Israeli aggression” at the
entrance to Latakia, a stronghold of President Bashar al-Assad.Video
circulated on social media appeared to show large secondary explosions,
suggesting the presence of weapons at the targeted site.Since Hamas’s
brutal October 7 massacre last year, which saw some 1,200 people killed
in Israel and 251 kidnapped, Israel has escalated its strikes on
Iranian-backed terror targets in Syria and has also struck Syrian army
air defenses and some Syrian forces. The Syrian government is allied to
the Hezbollah terror group, which began attacking Israel a day after
Hamas’s devastating October 7 onslaught, it what it said was a show of
support for Palestinians. The Israeli military, which has launched
hundreds of strikes in Syria in recent years, did not comment on the
alleged Latakia strike. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a
Britain-based monitor of unclear funding, said the Israeli raid
“targeted a weapons depot in Latakia city.”Strikes have been rare on the
port city, which is near the Russian air base in Hmeimim. The
Observatory on October 3 reported drones hit a weapons depot near
Jableh, located in Latakia province next to Hmeimim.“Huge explosions
were heard from far away,” the monitor said without detailing the source
of the drones.Anti-aircraft defense systems operated by Syria and
Russia, an ally of Assad, attempted to intercept the missiles according
to the Observatory. Syrian state media did not report on the Jableh
strikes. The Israeli military has intensified its raids on Syria in
parallel with its escalation in Lebanon, where for more than three weeks
it has targeted Hezbollah bastions.Israel has long accused Hezbollah of
transferring weapons through Syria.Last month, it was reported that
Israeli special forces carried out a massive raid on an Iranian weapons
facility in the Masyaf area in Syria, killing at least 14 people,
wounding 43, and sparking fires.Since the beginning of the Syrian civil
war in 2011, Israel — which rarely comments on individual strikes in
Syria — is believed to have carried out hundreds of strikes, mainly
targeting army positions and Iran-backed fighters including from
Hezbollah.
US imposes sanctions on ‘sham charity’ fundraising for
Palestinian terror group-Treasury says Popular Front for the Liberation
of Palestine uses Samidoun network to fundraise in Europe and North
America; Canada lists Samidoun as a terrorist entity-By Reuters and ToI
Staff Today, 10:09 pm-OCT 15,24
WASHINGTON — The United States on
Tuesday imposed sanctions on what it said was a key international
fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)
terror group. The US Treasury Department, in action taken with Canada,
said in a statement it imposed sanctions on the Samidoun Palestinian
Prisoner Solidarity Network, accusing it of being “a sham charity that
serves as an international fundraiser” for the PFLP.The PFLP, which has
also taken part in the fight against Israel in Gaza, was designated a
Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global
Terrorist by the US in October 1997 and October 2001, respectively. The
Treasury said PFLP uses Samidoun to fundraise in Europe and North
America. The group’s activities were banned by Germany last
year.“Organizations like Samidoun masquerade as charitable actors that
claim to provide humanitarian support to those in need, yet in reality
divert funds for much-needed assistance to support terrorist groups,”
Treasury’s acting under-secretary for terrorism and financial
intelligence, Bradley Smith, said in the statement. The Samidoun
Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network did not respond immediately to a
Reuters request for comment.A member of the PFLP’s leadership abroad
was also targeted with sanctions on Tuesday.Canada announced the listing
of Samidoun as a terrorist entity on Tuesday.“Violent extremism, acts
of terrorism or terrorist financing have no place in Canadian society or
abroad,” Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said in a
statement announcing the listing. The Treasury said the PFLP has remained
active in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, including
participating in the October 7 Hamas-led attack on Israel that started
the conflict and which killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, while 251
were taken as hostages to Gaza.
After bomb threat during Yom
Kippur service, Manhattan synagogue prayed on street-400 people
attending opening Kol Nidre service at Town and Village synagogue were
forced to abandon building, but were determined to not let hoax ruin
proceedings-By Jackie Hajdenberg Today, 9:39 pm-OCT 15,24
New
York Jewish Week via JTA — Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, as the
members of Town and Village Synagogue welcomed Yom Kippur by gathering
for the Kol Nidre service, an anonymous man called with a message: Five
bombs had been placed at the US Conservative congregation in downtown
Manhattan.Immediately after the call came in, the synagogue security
guard alerted both floors of the building on East 14th Street, prompting
400 congregants at two separate services to file out of the pews and
exit the building en masse, reconvening on the sidewalk outside while
police swept the building. In an email to the synagogue choir sent Monday
afternoon, Cantor Shayna Postman wrote that she initially thought
someone had fainted when she saw people moving at the back of the
sanctuary. She quickly realized what was happening.“Everyone was so calm
and quiet, and now people were starting to walk out of the sanctuary,”
Postman wrote. “Needless to say, I was concerned.”Hundreds of synagogues
across the United States have received similar bomb threats over the
past year. But for Town and Village, it was a jarring interruption to
what is, globally, perhaps the most well-known and well-attended prayer
service of the Jewish year — often experienced as a slow, meditative
moment at the onset of the Day of Atonement. For some congregants, the
experience, coming at an anxious time for Jews in New York City and
beyond, confirmed that the antisemitism they already feared was making
an appearance in their lives.“I told Bill to not put his yarmulke on
until we get inside the synagogue,” said Cheryl Gross, who attended the
service, referring to her husband. “We didn’t used to worry about that.
But we do now.”What happened after the evacuation, attendees said, was
inspiring: Standing together, the congregants kept praying together —
and finished the Kol Nidre prayer on the sidewalk.“Cantor Postman, who
hadn’t finished all three times of ‘Kol Nidre,’ finished it on the
street with choirs surrounding her,” recalled Beth Mann, a past
president of Town and Village Synagogue who was at the synagogue Friday.
“Rabbi [Abby] Sosland and I started singing ‘Oseh Shalom’ and other
songs, and people just joyously started singing in the street. And
anyone who passed by — it’s a Friday night, New York City — they just
stood and admired what was going on and asked what happened.
”Congregants finished that part of the service without their machzors,
or High Holiday prayer books, Gross said. “I don’t think we had time to
think about it too much,” her husband Bill added. But enough people in
the crowd had that part of the service memorized that they were able to
continue without the words in front of them. “We gathered outside on the
street, and we actually began singing,” Mann said. The NYPD’s Emergency
Services Unit examined the synagogue’s premises, “yielding negative
results,” a statement from a police spokesperson said. In other words,
like most if not all of the bomb threats called into US synagogues
recently, it was a hoax.“No injuries were reported as a result of this
incident,” the NYPD statement said. “There are no arrests and the
investigation remains ongoing.” The report classified the incident as
“aggravated harassment.”Following the sweep, congregants and guests
headed back inside, where they were able to complete their Yom Kippur
evening services.“We were undeterred from celebrating the holiday, from
making it meaningful for everyone,” Mann said. “We just reacted the way
we always do: with determination, with love, with peace and with
song.”She added: “If there’s a silver lining, it’s that it made our
prayers and our kavana, our intentionality — it deepened our
intentionality. And I think people need that.”
