WARN THE PEOPLE-WW3
EZEKIEL 33:1-6
1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them,
When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man
of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4
Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not
warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon
his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not
warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall
deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow
not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and
take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but
his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south( EGYPT) push at
him:(EU DICTATOR IN ISRAEL) and the king of the north (RUSSIA AND MUSLIM
HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with
chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter
into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
41 He shall
enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be
overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,
and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and
over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the
Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
44 But tidings out of the

13 For thou hast said
in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above
the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in
the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the
realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor
planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
EZEKIEL 31:10-17
10
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his
heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him
into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal
with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And
strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left
him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen,
and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the
people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
14To
the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for
their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither
their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they
are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the
midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.(HELL).
15Thus
saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods
thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn
for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16 I made
the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to
hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the
choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in
the nether parts of the earth.
17They also went down into hell with
him unto [them that be] slain with the sword; and [they that were] his
arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
18To
whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of
Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the
nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the
uncircumcised with [them that be] slain by the sword. This [is] Pharaoh
and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
EZEKIEL 32:17-32
17
It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the
month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
18 Son of
man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her,
and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the
earth, with them that go down into the pit.
19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.
20
They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she
is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
21 The
strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with
them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain
by the sword.
22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
23
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round
about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused
terror in the land of the living.
24 There [is] Elam (IRAN) and all
her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the
sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the
earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have
they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
25 They
have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her
graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the
sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet
have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put
in the midst of [them that be] slain.
26 There [is] Meshech,
Tubal,(RUSSIA) (GERMANY, TURKEY) and all her multitude: her graves [are]
round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though
they caused their terror in the land of the living.
27And they shall
not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, which
are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid
their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their
bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the
living.
28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword.
29
There [is] Edom,(JORDAN) her kings, and all her princes, which with
their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall
lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
30
There [be] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the
Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they
are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that
be] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to
the pit.
31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all
his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith
the Lord GOD.
32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the
living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with
[them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his
multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA)

against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against

4 And I (GOD) will turn thee back, and put hooks into

all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields,
all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6
Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of

thee.(AFRICAN MUSLIMS,SUDAN,TUNESIA ETC)
7 Be thou prepared, and
prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto
thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be
visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is
brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against
the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is
brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of
them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a
cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with
thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall
also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy
mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt
say,(RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) I will go up to the land of unwalled
villages;(ISRAEL) I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely,
all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12
To take a spoil,(OIL IS IN SPOIL) and to take a prey; to turn thine

14 Therefore, son of man,
prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my
people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?
15 And
thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many
people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a
mighty army:
16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel,
as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I
will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I
shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
EZEKIEL 39:11-22
11
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog
(RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of

they bury Gog (RUSSIAN) and all his multitude:(ARAB/MUSLIM HORDE) and
they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.(BURIEL SITE OF THE 300
MILLION,RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS)
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.(OF ISRAEL)
13
Yea, all the people of the land (OF ISRAEL) shall bury them; and it
shall be to them a renown the day that I (GOD-JESUS) shall be glorified,
saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual
employment,(NUCLEAR ATOMIC BOMB EXPERTS) passing through the land to
bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth,
to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.

16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.(OF THE ISRAEL-GOD HATERS)
17
And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every
feathered fowl,(500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS THREW ISRAEL EVERY
SPRING,FALL) and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and
come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do
sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel,
that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM
ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood
of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of
bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall
see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon
them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few split seconds."All of Turkey
and those [inaudible] countries that have refused me and refused my
message of love shall hate each other and kill one another."I saw the
angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I
saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood
all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many
of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction –
men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children
of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final
judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken
in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no
more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

Macron
speaks with Netanyahu, but doesn’t retract his call for arms embargo-PM
says he expects friends to stand behind Israel as France pushes for
ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, a day after calling the French leader’s
actions a ‘disgrace’ By Lazar Berman-Today, 10:25 pm-OCT 6,24
Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macron spoke
by phone on Sunday, a day after the latter called for an arms embargo on
Israel, sparking outrage in Jerusalem. The two leaders “acknowledge[d]
their differences of opinion, as well as their desire to be well
understood by each other,” said a French readout of the call, but
indicated that the Macron would not back off his opposition to arms
sales to Israel, while its troops continue to fight in Gaza and
Lebanon.“I think that today, the priority is that we return to a
political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to fight in Gaza,”
Macron told broadcaster France Inter in an interview aired on Saturday,
adding that France is not sending any arms to Israel. In response,
Netanyahu labeled Macron’s call for an arms embargo on Israel “a
disgrace.”On Sunday, the two spoke “in complete frankness and with
respect for the friendship between France and Israel,” said Paris.“It is
expected that Israel’s friends stand behind it, and don’t place
limitations on it that only strengthen the Iranian terror axis,”
Netanyahu told Macron, according to the Israeli readout. The premier said
the IDF operations against Hezbollah, which Macron opposes, “create an
opportunity to change the reality in Lebanon toward stability, security,
and peace in the entire region.”Macron, according to his office,
reiterated France’s commitment to Israel’s security and noted that
France participated in the defense of Israel against Iranian attacks.“On
the eve of the first anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist offensive against
Israel, he expressed the solidarity of the French people with the
Israeli people, particularly the victims, the hostages and their loved
ones,” according to Macron’s office. “Like everyone, Israel has the
right to defend itself against terrorism. Attacks against Israel and its
citizens must cease, whether they are carried out by Iran or its
proxies in the region.”Macron also said that “the time for a ceasefire
has now come.”“The arms deliveries, the prolongation of the war in Gaza
and its extension to Lebanon cannot produce the security expected by the
Israelis and by everyone in the region,” Macron told Netanyahu. “We
must immediately make the decisive effort that will allow us to develop
the political solutions necessary for the security of Israel and
everyone in the Middle East.”Also Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces said
that troops had encircled the northern Gaza city of Jabaliya, as pat of
a new ground operation targeting efforts by Hamas to reestablish itself
there.French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot will be in Israel
tomorrow. He is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Israel Katz,
Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, and will be at Re’im for a
tribute to the victims of the Nova music festival massacre one year
after the Hamas invasion.France, which administered Lebanon from
1920-1944, maintains close cultural and diplomatic ties with the
country. The IDF continued its campaign of airstrikes in Lebanon on
Sunday, with the military saying it carried out a series of pinpoint
attacks on Hezbollah targets in Beirut overnight, including several
weapons depots and other terror infrastructure.Israel says it has
widened operations against Hezbollah to enable the safe return to their
homes in the north of some 60,000 Israeli civilians who were evacuated
when the Iran-backed terror group began firing rockets on October 8.
Hezbollah said the attacks were in support of the Palestinians in Gaza
during the war sparked by Hamas’s devastating onslaught a day earlier. So
far, the skirmishes in the north have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on
the Israeli side, and — excluding the soldiers killed in the ground
operation — the deaths of 22 IDF soldiers and reservists. Two soldiers
were killed in a drone attack from Iraq, and there were also several
attacks from Syria, without any injuries. The IDF’s toll in the ground
offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon stands at nine.Hezbollah has
named 516 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing
skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some in Syria. Another 94 operatives
from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians
have also been killed. These numbers have not been consistently updated
since Israel began a new offensive against Hezbollah in September,
including a ground operation in which the military says at least 440
Hezbollah operatives have been killed.
Kamala Harris defends
security aid to Israel alongside pressure for ceasefire-VP and
Democratic presidential candidate says White House working
‘diplomatically with the leadership of Israel’ on pushing its goals,
dodges question on alliance with Netanyahu-By Jacob Magid-Today, 10:25
pm-OCT 6,24
US Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday defended US
security assistance to Israel, but also said the Biden administration
would not halt its pressure on Jerusalem for an end to the fighting.“The
aid that we have given Israel allowed Israel to defend itself against
200 ballistic missiles that were just meant to attack the people of
Israel,” Harris told CBS’s “60 Minutes” in a preview clip of a rare
interview, slated to air in full Sunday night. The administration has
faced questions over its continued aid to Israel given accusations that
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is bucking Washington’s interests and
objectives in the region.“When we think about the threat that Hamas,
Hezbollah… Iran present, I think that it is without any question, our
imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself against
those kinds of attacks,” said Harris, who is running against Republican
nominee and former president Donald Trump to succeed President Joe Biden
in the White House. The Democratic nominee insisted that the security
aid to Israel is provided in parallel to diplomatic engagements with the
country’s leaders aimed at influencing their actions.“The work that we
do diplomatically with the leadership of Israel is an ongoing pursuit
around making clear our principles, which include the need for
humanitarian aid, the need for this war to end, the need for a deal to
be done which would release the hostages and create a ceasefire, and
we’re not going to stop in terms of putting that pressure on Israel and
in the region, including Arab leaders,” she said.Monday, on a 60 Minutes
election special, Bill Whitaker asks Vice President Kamala Harris if
the U.S. lacks influence over American ally Israel’s Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu. https://t.co/TG3WOCA23A pic.twitter.com/IH6MXMjuCP —
60 Minutes (@60Minutes) October 6, 2024-Pressed on what that pressure
has accomplished, given how the war in Gaza has dragged on and the
fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has expanded dramatically in
recent weeks, Harris rejected the premise, but did not provide concrete
examples to back her point.“The work that we have done has resulted in a
number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much
prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what
needs to happen in the region,” she said.Asked whether the US has a
close ally in Netanyahu, Harris dodged once again.“I think, with all due
respect, the better question is, do we have an important alliance
between the American people and the Israeli people? And the answer to
that question is yes,” she said.Harris has made this argument once
before, cautioning against the conflation of Israel’s government with
its people, given the Biden administration’s growing rift with Netanyahu
over his handling of the war in Gaza. She has also repeatedly in recent
months stressed the need for the US to continue militarily supporting
Israel in the face of a wide range of threats.Following the Iranian
missile strike on Israel last week, Harris slammed the “reckless and
brazen” attack, saying it further demonstrates that Tehran is a
“destabilizing, dangerous force” in the Middle East.“I will always
ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself against Iran and
Iran-backed terrorist militias. My commitment to the security of Israel
is unwavering,” she added at the time.Last month, Harris said in an
interview during a campaign event that she supports Biden’s decision in
May to withhold a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs from Israel over
concerns the IDF would use them in densely populated areas of
Gaza.Harris has not deviated publicly from the Biden administration’s
policies on Israel during her time as vice president, although some have
seen her rhetoric throughout the war as more sharply emphasizing the
plight of Palestinians.
October 7 anniversary marked worldwide
with memorials, pro- and anti-Israel protests-Pro-Israel demonstrators
remember the victims of Hamas’s attack, call for the release of hostages
while pope makes same plea, calls for day of prayer, fast on Monday-By
ToI Staff and Agencies Today, 11:23 pm-OCT 6,24
PARIS, France —
Crowds were participating in pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protests
and memorial events across Europe, North Africa, and Asia on Sunday. on
the eve of the first anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attack on
Israel.Sunday’s events followed massive rallies that took place Saturday
in several European cities, including London, Berlin, Paris, and Rome.
Other events were scheduled through the week, with an expected peak on
Monday, the date of the anniversary. At a march in Berlin, near the
Brandenburg Gate, hundreds of pro-Israeli demonstrators set off up the
famed Unter den Linden behind a banner that read “Against all
antisemitism,” accompanied by a police escort. With many Israeli flags
waving overhead, some Jewish leaders led a song about “shalom” — peace —
while marchers chanted “Free Gaza from Hamas!” and “Bring them home,”
referring to the more than 100 hostages still held in the Gaza
Strip.Thousands gathered in Paris for a Jewish memorial event featuring
speakers and artists paying tribute to those killed in the October 7
attack and standing with those still in captivity. In London, thousands
gathered in Hyde Park in a similar memorial event. The crowds chanted
“Bring them home” and waved Israeli flags and placards with the faces of
hostages still held by Hamas. The event was organized by the Board of
Deputies of British Jews, the Jewish Leadership Council, and other
groups in collaboration with the Israeli embassy in London.“Today’s
event is for one purpose only: it is a memorial. We want to remember the
people who have been brutally murdered and we want the world to
remember,” Henry Grunwald, chair of the organizing committee told
AFP.Mandy Damari, whose daughter Emily was one of the 251 people taken
hostage by Hamas, said her daughter was “full of life.”Speaking at the
memorial, Damari said “One year has passed and she is still in hell. How
is it she is still in prison?”British Jewish actress Tracy-Ann Oberman
was among the attendees and spoke at the event, saying that “we must not
forget our humanity” and remarking that it was “heartening” to see how
many people had come out for the event. One attendee, Mabel Russell, 53,
said it was “important to be here, to remember those who are no longer
here. We will remember always.”Another attendee, Sharon, who did not
want to give her last name, said she “pray(s) everyday for the
hostages,” but was opposed to a ceasefire in Gaza.“We cannot bow down to
tyranny. If there’s a ceasefire things are never going to change,” she
added. Two other rallies, one in Manchester and one in Leeds, were also
set to take place on Sunday.Massive protests-Meanwhile, people took to
the streets from Pakistan to Morocco in massive pro-Palestinian and
anti-Israel demonstrations.In Morocco’s capital, Rabat, thousands
marched by the parliament and called on the government to revoke its
2020 agreement normalizing the country’s ties with Israel.Abdelilah
Miftah, from Casablanca, said Palestinians and Lebanese were now facing
“Israeli arrogance.”“Israel is not respecting any laws and is waging an
aggressive war against them,” Miftah said. The protest in Rabat was among
the largest in months. Morocco’s government has spoken out against the
war in Gaza, but retained its ties with Israel. In the southern Pakistani
city of Karachi, a massive pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel rally was
organized by the country’s largest religious political party,
Jamaat-e-Islami. Its chief, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, said the protest “is
to wake up the world. … This protest is to tell the US that it is
supporting terrorists.”Earlier on Sunday in Australia, thousands of
people rallied in support of Palestinians and Lebanon and against
Israel. A pro-Israeli rally also took place in Melbourne.Samantha Gazal
said she came to the rally in Sydney “because I can’t believe our
government is giving impunity to a violent extremist nation and has done
nothing…. We’re watching the violence play out on live stream, and
they’re doing nothing.”In Melbourne, supporters of Israel held up
posters showing Israeli hostages who are still missing.“We feel like we
didn’t do anything to deserve this,” said Jeremy Wenstein, one of the
participants. “We’re just supporting our brothers and sisters who are
fighting a war that they didn’t invite.”Heightened security
alerts-Security forces in several countries warned of heightened levels
of alert in major cities, given concerns that the escalating conflict in
the Middle East could inspire new terror attacks in Europe or that some
of the protests could turn violent.France’s interior minister was to
hold a special security meeting on Sunday evening to assess the “terror
threat,” his office said.On Sunday, Italy’s Premier Giorgia Meloni
expressed her “full solidarity” with police, the day after security
forces used tear gas and water cannons to disperse violent demonstrators
in Rome.Meloni firmly condemned clashes between a few pro-Palestinian
demonstrators and law enforcement officers, saying it was “intolerable
that dozens of officers are injured during a demonstration.”Thirty
police officers and four protesters were hurt in clashes at the
pro-Palestinian march in Rome on Saturday, local media said. In Rome’s
central Piazzale Ostiense, hooded protesters threw stones, bottles and
even a street sign at the police, who responded using water cannons and
tear gas.Pope Francis, celebrating his Sunday Angelus prayer from the
Vatican, issued a new appeal for peace “on every front.” Francis also
urged his audience not to forget the many hostages still held in Gaza,
asking for “their immediate liberation.”The pope called for a day of
prayer and fasting on Monday, the first anniversary of the attack.Risk
of a regional escalation-On October 7 last year, Hamas launched a
surprise attack on Israel, murdering some 1,200 Israelis, mostly
civilians, taking 251 people hostage and setting off a war with Israel
that has shattered much of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. The Hamas-run
Gaza health ministry says more than 40,000 people in the Strip have
been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far, though the toll
cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and
fighters. Israel says it has killed more than 17,000 combatants in
battle as of August and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on
October 7.Israel has said it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities and
stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting
from civilian areas including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques. It
is believed that 97 hostages remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at
least 33 confirmed dead by the IDF.Hamas released 105 civilians during a
weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released before
that. Eight hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies
of 37 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly
killed by the military as they tried to escape their captors.Hamas is
also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and
2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who were killed in
2014.Israel has also experienced attacks — missiles from Iran and
Hezbollah, explosive drones from Yemen, fatal shootings and stabbings —
as the region braces for further escalation. In late September, Israel
shifted some of its focus to Hezbollah, which holds much of the power in
parts of southern Lebanon and some other areas of the country,
attacking the terrorists with airstrikes and, eventually, a limited
ground operation in Lebanon.Israel has eliminated the vast majority of
Hezbollah’s top leadership in the last few weeks, as it seeks to push
the group away from the border and allow tens of thousands of evacuated
residents to return to their homes.
Reported Israeli airstrikes
on military targets in Syria-IDF strikes some 150 Hezbollah targets in
24h; rocket attack wounds man in north-Troops find weapons in almost
every home in some villages, officers say; military imposes third closed

airstrikes-By Emanuel Fabian, Lazar Berman-and Agencies Today, 11:49

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday afternoon it
had struck more than 150 Hezbollah targets over the preceding 24 hours,
during its ongoing ground operations in southern Lebanon, as it issued a
further evacuation order for civilians near several buildings in the
Hezbollah stronghold of Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Lebanon.Troops
with the IDF’s 98th and 36th divisions have been locating and destroying
weapon depots, tunnel shafts, and other Hezbollah infrastructures in
villages in southern Lebanon, the military said. The soldiers have also
been exchanging fire with Hezbollah operations in the area, and
directing airstrikes on gunmen and sites used by the terror group. The
targets hit by the Israeli Air Force included anti-tank missile launch
positions, cells of operatives, tunnels, and weapon depots, the IDF
added. While operating in southern Lebanon, troops are continuing to find
massive amounts of weaponry left behind by Hezbollah operatives,
according to the military.Officers involved in the fighting in some of
the villages in southern Lebanon said that Hezbollah placed weapons in
nearly every single home. The IDF said that the 188th Armored Brigade,
operating under the 36th Division, located several weapon caches and
tunnels during their operations in recent days. The troops also located
and demolished a Hezbollah command center that the IDF said was used by
the terror group to plan and carry out rocket fire on northern
Israel.“In the last few days we are focused on dismantling the above and
underground infrastructure, and we will continue to do so as long as it
takes, until we guarantee the return of the residents to the north in
complete safety,” the commander of the 188th Brigade, Col. Or
Vollozinsky, said in remarks provided by the IDF.During the operations,
the IDF imposed a new closed military zone on the Lebanon border, in the
areas of the communities of Manara, Yiftah, and Malkia, on Sunday. The
military said the move followed a fresh assessment during ground
operations inside southern Lebanon. It is the third closed military zone
imposed on the northern border since the IDF launched its ground
operations in Lebanon last week. The order prohibits civilians from areas
where the Israeli military is operating, including areas in Israel
across the border from Lebanese villages where fighting may be taking
place.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the border Sunday for a
situation assessment with IDF Northern Command head Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin
and 36th Division commander Brig. Gen. Moran Omer.“A year ago we
suffered a terrible blow,” Netanyahu said during the visit, according to
the Prime Minister’s Office. “Over the past 12 months, we are changing
reality from end to end.”The premier said the international community
has been impressed with Israel’s military might, telling troops of the
36th Division, “The whole world is astonished by the blows you inflict
on our enemies.”As troops operated in southern Lebanon on Sunday, a
barrage of 25 rockets and several drones were fired from the country at
northern Israel, some of which were intercepted by air defenses, while
others impacted in the area, according to the IDF.One rocket appeared to
hit a home in the Galilee town of Ma’alot-Tarshiha, with video of the
house on fire circulating on social media. Police reported widespread
damage to property in the attack.A 65-year-old man was also lightly
wounded in a rocket impact there, medics said. The Magen David Adom
ambulance service said the man was treated for injuries caused by the
blast of the rocket impact.Hezbollah claimed it launched rockets at a
gathering of soldiers in Ma’alot-Tarshiha, which lies some 8 kilometers
(5 miles) from the Lebanese border in the Western Galilee.Around 10
p.m., several rockets fired from Lebanon bombarded the northern city of
Karmiel, according to authorities, with reports of possible impacts
inside the city.Videos shared online show what appear to be successive
rocket interceptions over the city of 50,000 some 16 kilometers (10
miles) from the northern border. The Magen David Adom rescue service said
it did not know of any casualties in the attack so far, but was
checking possible impact sites. There were also unverified reports of a
building in the neighboring town of Deir al-Assad, taking a direct
hit. Also around 10 p.m. Sunday, the IDF called on Lebanese civilians
near four buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah
stronghold known as Dahiyeh, to evacuate immediately ahead of
airstrikes.Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language spokesman,
published maps alongside the announcement, which called on civilians to
distance themselves at least 500 meters from the sites, which the
military said belong to Hezbollah. In the past week, the IDF has issued
several evacuation orders for specific sites in Dahiyeh ahead of
airstrikes on Hezbollah infrastructure. In a visit to Beirut, UN refugee
agency chief Filippo Grandi said that Lebanon is seeing a “major
displacement crisis” as a result of Israeli airstrikes, and that some of
the strikes have violated international law.Lebanese government
officials estimate that 1.2 million people are now displaced. The UN has
appealed for $425.7 million to respond to the humanitarian crisis.
About 40% has been funded so far.Grandi said that a strike that cut
access to a major border crossing between Lebanon and Syria had also
created an obstacle for civilians attempting to flee to safety. The
escalating violence has pushed both Lebanese citizens and Syrian
refugees in Lebanon to cross the border en masse. In Syria, the state
news agency SANA, citing a military source, said the Israeli Air Force
carried out airstrikes in central Syria Sunday evening. The report said
the IAF warplanes launched their missiles from over northern Lebanon,
and targeted several military sites in central Syria. The strikes caused
“material losses,” SANA said. The pro-government Sham FM radio says the
airstrikes were carried out in the Homs area. The Britain-based Syrian
Observatory for Human Rights reported that one Israeli strike hit an
empty Iranian car factory in Homs, while the state news agency at one
point quoted a local official as saying that no factories were targeted
inside the city.Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011,
Israel — which rarely comments on individual strikes in Syria — is
believed to have carried out hundreds of strikes, mainly targeting army
positions and Iran-backed fighters including from Hezbollah.#BREAKING An

communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis,
with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war
there. So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the
Israeli side, and — excluding the soldiers killed in the ground
operation — the deaths of 22 IDF soldiers and reservists. Two soldiers
have been killed in a drone attack from Iraq, and there have also been
several attacks from Syria, without any injuries. The IDF’s toll in the

skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. Another 94
operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of
civilians have also been killed. These numbers have not been consistently
updated since Israel began a new offensive against Hezbollah in
September, including a ground operation in which the military says at
least 440 Hezbollah operatives have been killed.

interview on Saudi TV-By Lazar Berman-and ToI Staff Today, 10:09 pm-OCT

President Isaac Herzog on Sunday called on the Lebanese and
Iranian peoples to “rise up” and confront the Iranian regime, calling
the ongoing war a “golden opportunity” to reshape the Middle East, on
the eve of the first anniversary of Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack.“I
think that now, when things are shaking in the Middle East, we should
find a common exit strategy that enables a better future for the people
of the region,” Herzog told the Saudi Al Arabiya network. He called the
current moment “a golden opportunity for the powers that want to have a
better future for the Middle East to move forward with new ideas and new
plans in order to resolve this conflict,” and suggested “a NATO-like
structure in the region that blocks radicalism and terror.”Herzog was
interviewed as the region braces for Israel’s potential response to
Iran’s missile attack last week, when the Islamic Republic sent some 200
ballistic missiles at Israel, the majority of which were intercepted.
Two Israelis were hurt and one Palestinian was killed. When asked what
Israel’s response would consist of — whether the country might hit
Iran’s oil fields, nuclear sites, or even its leaders — the president
paused and said, “I have no intention of responding to your question,
don’t take it personally.”He rejected, however, the anchor’s suggestion
that Israel is seeking “revenge and retaliation” a year after the Hamas
attack.Rather, he said, “there was a huge opportunity that was laid out
originally by President Biden” of Israel-Saudi normalization, “that
would bring hope and a huge message of peace in the region, and this
hope was derailed by this vicious, horrific attack of the Iranian
proxies.”The president noted the various Iranian proxies beyond Hamas
that have attacked Israel over the last year, and said: “It’s a big
challenge, but if we can change the equation and uproot this empire of
evil, and move forward to a better future of connectivity and peace in
the region, this could be of historic magnitude.”Herzog defended Israel
against accusations of war crimes in international forums, saying, “We
truly believe in our vision: we are a democracy. We are an oasis in the
Middle East. We have Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, and Circassians
living and dwelling together,” noting that Hezbollah has struck Muslim
towns and cities in some of its daily rocket attacks over the last
year.He said he could “definitely rule out” that any war crimes have
been committed by Israeli soldiers over the course of the yearlong war,
telling his interviewer, “We follow the exact rules of international
humanitarian law,” and saying if any violations are suspected, they are
investigated immediately.“We care for the pain of our neighbors, but we
have the right to defend ourselves from missiles in people’s homes, in
people’s shops, in people’s mosques, in people’s playgrounds or
schools,” he said. “It’s unbelievably annoying when you see this in Gaza
or in southern Lebanon, or throughout Lebanon. It’s unacceptable.”“The
world needs to stand up and say, this is unacceptable. Don’t put any
missile in your living room or in your sleeping room or anywhere else,
just get it out of there,” Herzog said.Following a year of fighting with
the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon, which began
attacking Israel in support of Hamas after the October 7 attack last
year, Israel has ramped up fighting against the Lebanese group, and
launched a limited ground operation in southern Lebanon last week,
largely aimed at destroying weapons stored in villages near the
border. The president also rejected French President Emmanuel Macron’s
call for at least a partial weapons embargo on Israel, saying Israel is
“fighting for the future of the free world,” and that extremist forces
have Europe and the United States in their sights as well. The interview
came one day before Israel marks the first anniversary of the October 7
attack, which saw thousands of Hamas-led terrorists invade southern
Israel from Gaza, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages,
during acts of brutality and sexual assault. In Israel, the day will be
marked by both an official government ceremony and an alternative event
organized by victims of the attack who are critical of the government.
ADL
finds 10,000 antisemitic incidents in US since Hamas’s October 7
attack-Largest number of incidents recorded in US since watchdog began
keeping records, with hotspots including college campuses, Jewish
institutes targeted with bomb threats-By ToI Staff Today, 8:51 pm-OCT

More than 10,000 antisemitic incidents were recorded in the
US in the last year since Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, according
to statistics released by the Anti-Defamation League on Sunday. The data,
which was gathered between October 7, 2023 and September 24, marked a
massive spike in antisemitism in the US in the last year with a more
than 200 percent rise from the same period the previous year, which saw
3,325 incidents. The last year also saw the largest recorded number of
antisemitic incidents in the US since the ADL began keeping track in
1979.The incidents recorded by the ADL included at least 8,015 cases of
verbal or written harassment, 1,840 incidents of vandalism, and more
than 150 physical assaults. At least 1,200 antisemitic incidents happened
on college campuses, where massive anti-Israel protests took place over
the last year at institutions across the US. Discourse featured at the
demonstrations ranged from calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas
war in Gaza to accusing Israel of committing genocide against
Palestinians in the enclave and calling for more violence against
Jews. The latter included calls to “globalize the intifada,” a reference
to two periods in Israeli history that were characterized by constant
terror attacks against Jews in the country as well as calls for “another
10,000 October 7s.”The number of antisemitic incidents on US college
campuses marked a 500% rise from the year before, which only saw 200
cases. The ADL added that over 2,000 antisemitic cases were recorded at
Jewish institutions, where more than half took the form of bomb threats,
and 3,000 took place at anti-Israel protests which were not confined to
colleges but also took place off campus across the US.“Today, we mourn
the victims of the October 7 Hamas attack in Israel, marking one year
since the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. From that day on,
Jewish Americans haven’t had a single moment of respite,” said ADL CEO
Jonathan Greenblatt. “Instead, we’ve faced a shocking number of
antisemitic threats and experienced calls for more violence against
Israelis and Jews everywhere.”The ADL’s antisemitism report comes a day
before the anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel last
year.During the attack, Hamas terrorists murdered some 1,200 people,
mostly civilians, and took 251 hostages. The atrocities committed during
the attack included sexual abuse, the murder of entire families, and
the massive destruction of homes in Israeli communities near the Gaza
border.
Ahead of anniversary, IDF displays weapons, vehicles used
by Hamas in Oct. 7 attack-Military presents weeklong exhibition of
motorcycles, pick-up trucks, RPGs, anti-tank missiles, and other combat
material seized from Hamas on October 7 and in Gaza-By ToI Staff Today,

The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday presented a
display of weapons, ammunition, and vehicles used by Hamas during its
October 7 attack last year and throughout the subsequent war in Gaza,
that will be open this week for visits by foreign journalists,
representatives of international research organizations, and
diplomats. The display includes vehicles and equipment used by some of
the thousands of Hamas-led terrorists who invaded southern Israel that
day, including pickup trucks, motorcycles, tractors, uniforms and
intelligence materials, the IDF said in a statement. The attack last
year, which started the ongoing war, saw some 1,200 people, mostly
civilians, killed, and 251 taken hostage into the Gaza Strip. The display
also includes weapons such as anti-tank missiles, RPGs, rockets,
explosive devices, and drones that were collected over the course of the
yearlong campaign against the terror group following the attack, the
IDF said. The display has existed in some form or another for many
months, but has been presented anew this week, and is expected to
receive diplomats, think-tank representatives, and journalists, on the
first anniversary of the Hamas attack last year that started the ongoing
war.It is a project of the Technological and Logistics Directorate’s
Enemy Assets Confiscation Unit, the military said. The unit is mostly
composed of reservists, and is charged with locating, documenting, and
collecting weapons and other enemy material from combat zones.Since the
start of the war, the unit has confiscated approximately 70,000 items of
enemy equipment, including around 1,250 anti-tank missiles and RPGs, as
well as about 4,500 explosive devices, according to the IDF.

cop killed, 10 wounded in terror shooting attack at Beersheba central
bus station-Female officer, 19, shot dead by terrorist who opened fire
inside McDonald’s; gunman was Israeli citizen and relative of
perpetrator of 2015 attack inside same bus station-By Emanuel Fabian,

A Border Police officer was
killed and at least 10 others were wounded when a terrorist opened fire
in the Beersheba bus station on Sunday afternoon. The victim was
identified as Sgt. Shira Suslik, 19, a Border Police officer from
Beersheba. She was killed when a gunman stormed into a McDonald’s in the
southern city’s central bus station and opened fire on those inside. The
shooter, who was said to be killed at the scene by IDF soldiers, was
identified as Ahmad al-Uqbi, 29, an Israeli citizen from the
unrecognized Bedouin village of Uqbi, near Hura. He is said to have a
prior criminal record. The Magen David Adom ambulance service said that
10 people were wounded in the attack and taken for treatment to the
Soroka Medical Center, including a woman in serious condition and four
men in moderate condition, all of whom sustained gunshot wounds.Another
five were listed in good condition after being hit by glass shards or
blunt trauma, while three others were treated for acute anxiety, MDA
added.Police said they were investigating whether the attack involved
both stabbing and gunfire by the terrorist. In November 2023, Suslik
posted on Instagram about celebrating her 19th birthday in the shadow of
war, writing that the situation “gives even more meaning to the
privilege I have to celebrate life in uniform, just over a month after
kids my age were killed in battle for the state in the same uniform.”In a
statement, the Israel Police said she is survived by her parents and
three siblings.Tarin Yaakobov, the manager of the McDonald’s branch,
told Ynet that “we heard gunshots and then we saw the terrorist spraying
gunfire with his weapon. He shattered all the glass [windows]. We
closed the door of the freezer and hid inside. We held the door closed
so he couldn’t enter, and 15 minutes later we went back out.”Boris
Mento, a paramedic with MDA, said there was “a lot of chaos and
commotion and some of the wounded had fled into other stores” inside the
bus station. The first responders treated them at the scene to stop the
bleeding before taking them to the city’s local hospital, he
added.According to the Kan public broadcaster, al-Uqbi is a relative of
Muhanad al-Uqbi, from the same Bedouin town, who carried out a deadly
2015 terror shooting inside the Beersheba central bus station.Following
the attack, Transportation Minister Miri Regev said the families of
terrorists should be deported: “The time has come for a deterrent
punishment that prevents attacks on Israeli territory,” she
tweeted.Yisrael Beytenu party chairman Avigdor Liberman also tweeted a
message in favor of deporting the family members of terrorists, noting
that his faction had put forward such a bill earlier this year that
passed an initial reading but did not advance further. He accused the
government of “wasting time as we pay the price for it in human life.”“I
call on the members of the government and the Knesset speaker to hold a
special session of the Knesset plenum and to pass [the bill] this
week,” he added. “The blood of our brothers and sisters is not [spilled]
in vain.”The leader of the Arab Islamist Ra’am party, MK Mansour Abbas,
condemned the attack, writing that “today a heinous crime was committed
in Beersheba against innocent civilians. We condemn the attack,
especially since the perpetrator is an Arab citizen from the Bedouin
community in the Negev.”“This is not the way of Arab citizens who have
shown civic, moral and legal commitment and abhorred any type of
violence, and rejected any attempt to be dragged into taking part in
acts of political violence,” he added.Sunday’s attack came on the eve of
the anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 mass onslaught against southern
Israel, the worst terror attack in Israel’s history, and a few days
after a deadly shooting attack in Jaffa in which two Palestinian
terrorists from Hebron opened fire at a light rail stop, killing seven
people.

another way to dehumanize us and celebrate our death' Jewish students
say anti-Israel Oct. 7 events at Montreal campuses set to celebrate
Hamas-Even after McGill and Concordia take measures to stem antisemitism
on campus, protest groups continue to glorify terror a year after the
Hamas massacre, putting local Jews on edge-By Eliyahu Freedman Today,
5:16 pm-OCT 6,24
Independent student groups formerly affiliated
with Montreal’s McGill and Concordia universities have sparked outrage
with a planned coordinated campus “flood” to mark the first anniversary
of the October 7 terror onslaught in southern Israel, which Hamas dubbed
the “Al-Aqsa Flood.”The event, promoted as a commemoration of “the
historic breach of the colonial border wall and a year of Palestinian
resistance,” encourages students to walk out of class and “flood” the
campus in protest of what organizers call “a year of genocide.”
Promotional materials feature an image of Gazans celebrating atop a
stolen Israeli military vehicle on October 7 — a visual that many
interpret as glorifying acts of terror. For many Jewish students, this
protest represents more than just a symbolic walkout; it is the
culmination of a year of hostility and fear.“It’s another way of
dehumanizing us and celebrating our death,” said Ora Bar, a recent
Concordia graduate who has been active in pro-Israel advocacy. “If they
let it happen, glorifying the killers, this shows the direction where
Canada is going.”The upcoming protest is part of a broader pattern of
pro-Hamas activism that has left many Jewish students saying they’ve
faced a climate of antisemitism and intimidation over the past year.Bar
described the constant tension on campus since the events of October 7,
2023, when thousands of Hamas-led terrorists stormed into southern
Israel, brutally murdering 1,200 men, women and children, and kidnapping
251 to the Gaza Strip.“We’ve seen a year of open celebration of
violence,” she said, recalling demonstrations in Montreal whose
organizers distributed candy and glorified attacks on Israelis shortly
after the massacre. “What’s happening now with this protest is just a
continuation of the same dehumanizing behavior that’s been allowed to
fester.”For many Jewish students, the lack of response from university
leaders to earlier incidents, including campaigns by the Boycott,
Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement — which has faced accusations of
antisemitism — and the dissemination of lists of Jewish-owned
businesses to boycott, has only deepened their sense of vulnerability
and fear on campus.According to a recent report by the Anti-Defamation
League (ADL), antisemitic incidents in the United States skyrocketed
after October 7, with particularly disturbing trends emerging on college
campuses.Among the most alarming findings was a 434 percent increase in
violent antisemitic posts on social media platforms such as X and
Telegram on the day of the attack. Additionally, protests across the US
have featured explicit support for terrorist groups including Hamas,
Hezbollah, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP),
with demonstrators chanting slogans like “Long live the Intifada” and
waving banners of convicted terrorists. Equally shocking, the widespread
removal and vandalization of hostage posters — often targeting events
that hosted survivors of the October 7 massacre — occurred at least 57
times across US college campuses in the year following the attack,
signaling a disturbing trend of minimizing or denying Jewish
suffering. The planned walkout at McGill and Concordia underscores how
anti-Israel protesters are staying a step ahead of university
administrators and law enforcement. In July, a months-long encampment at
McGill was dismantled by a private security firm. By the end of the
summer, both McGill and Concordia universities had officially severed
ties with their campus chapters of Students for Palestine’s Honour and
Resistance (SPHR), the group behind the planned October 7
event.Meanwhile, the Montreal-based Jewish community organization
Federation CJA is also planning a “Student Unity Vigil” on McGill’s
campus on October 7, “in remembrance of those we lost and in solidarity
with the hostages still held.”More anti-Israel October 7 events are
being planned at universities and cities across the US, with many of
them drawing controversy for what critics see as the glorification of
violence and terror. In New York City, several events were planned for
the weekend of October 5 and on October 7 itself across the city, with
one “NYC Student Walkout” highlighting “One year of the student
intifada.”These events, like the ones at Montreal universities, are
promoted as acts of solidarity with the Palestinians but have been
widely condemned by Jewish organizations as dangerous expressions of
antisemitism. The growing prevalence of these events has fueled concerns
about campus safety for Jewish students, prompting protests and
counter-demonstrations at several institutions. Some schools, such as
Tufts University, have reportedly sanctioned pro-Palestinian student
groups over planned October 7 protests.“SPHR has no affiliation with
McGill University and is using the McGill name on social platforms
without authorization from the university,” clarified McGill’s Media
Relations Office. “The University officially notified Meta and Twitter/X
that the group was using McGill’s name without permission and demanded
that Meta and Twitter/X remove the McGill name from the account.
Unfortunately, Meta and Twitter/X are still allowing the account to use
McGill’s name without authorization.” Neither SPHR McGill nor SPHR
Concordia responded to requests for comment regarding the event or their
involvement.According to B’nai Brith Quebec regional director Hank
Topas, campus protesters are increasingly employing creative strategies
to circumvent university administrators and law enforcement. One tactic
involves setting up “mini-encampments,” where pro-Hamas or anti-Israel
groups suddenly gather outside or inside classrooms, chanting slogans
and disrupting lessons.“They will show up, barge into a class or be
outside a class making all kinds of noise and their usual hateful
slogans,” Topas said. These spontaneous demonstrations often last up to
20 minutes before security arrives, and by the time the police show up,
“the class is over and everybody has disappeared,” he added.Topas
emphasized that the intent is to harass Jewish students and others
sympathetic to Israel, creating an atmosphere of intimidation without
facing legal consequences. The impact of campus protests is spilling over
into the broader Montreal Jewish community, with nightly demonstrations
near the Israeli consulate in Westmount.“There are nightly
demonstrations with the beating of drums, the loudspeakers, the entire
nine yards,” said Topas. The protests, held near a residential area home
to many Jewish seniors, have distressed the local community. Despite
efforts by B’nai Brith and meetings with various levels of government,
Topas expressed frustration that there is “almost a hands-off approach,”
particularly from Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante, who, he said, has
failed to support the Jewish community. While the police have tried to
assist, their efforts have been limited, creating a growing sense of
vulnerability among Montreal’s Jewish residents. Not all Jewish students
at McGill share the concerns raised by organizations like B’nai Brith. A
self-identifying leftist Jewish student, speaking on condition of
anonymity, pushed back against what they called a “moral panic” around
Jewish safety on campus.“I don’t experience there to be much
antisemitism at all,” they said. The student also expressed discomfort
with the increased security presence, stating, “McGill is hiring a ton
of security, which I think makes a lot of people feel unsafe on campus.
There is sort of a feeling of being pretty constantly
surveilled.”Although they do not support the October 7 protest,
explaining that they find it “not something that I feel comfortable
supporting,” they emphasized, “I don’t think it will make me feel
unsafe.”Instead, the student said, “I support disruptive protest,” but
believes that the current discourse is unnecessarily inflaming tensions.
IDF
preparing for possible long-range rocket attacks from Gaza on Oct. 7
anniversary-Army assesses projectiles could be fired at central Israel
as nation marks 1 year since Hamas attack; IDF bolsters defenses on Gaza
border, deploys troops to surrounding towns-By Emanuel Fabian-and ToI

The IDF said Sunday it has
bolstered forces on the Gaza border as it anticipates possible
long-range rocket fire or other attacks from the Strip on the
anniversary of the October 7 massacre.Monday marks one year since the
October 7, 2023, terror onslaught, in which Hamas-led terrorists
murdered some 1,200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza.Military
sources said that while Hamas has been largely dismantled as a military
organization, its operatives can still carry out rocket attacks. The IDF
anticipates Hamas attacks on the first anniversary of the onslaught and
assessed that such attacks from Gaza could include rocket fire, possibly
even at central Israel. The military said it was therefore bolstering
defenses both along the Gaza border and in the Netzarim Corridor area in
the Strip’s center, where the IDF maintains a presence.“The Southern
Command is prepared in defense and attack for several scenarios during
the coming month, along with allowing memorial events in the [Gaza
border communities] to be carried out safely,” the IDF said in a
statement. The military said several companies were being deployed to
defend the Israeli border towns, and that it would coordinate with
police and medical services in the event of attacks.“We are on
heightened alert for the coming days. At a high level of readiness… with
offensive actions,” the chief of the Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaron
Finkelman, told officers in a video distributed by the IDF.On Saturday
night, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari warned at a televised
briefing that Israeli civilians could be targeted.“We are prepared with
increased forces in anticipation for this day,” when there could be
“attacks on the home front,” he said.Organizers of an unofficial
commemoration marking a year since Hamas’s October 7 massacre said
Saturday it will be held with a limited crowd made up of families of the
victims, due to IDF Home Front Command restrictions that prevent large
gatherings. The commemoration, which was organized by the families of
those killed and kidnapped, is set to be held at Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park
at 7 p.m. on Monday.Currently, the IDF Home Front Command limits
gatherings to up to 2,000 people in Tel Aviv due to the ongoing threat
of rocket attacks from Hezbollah in Lebanon as well as from Hamas. The
ceremony will be broadcast on Israeli television stations and dozens of
foreign broadcast networks. Dozens of cities in Israel and around the
world will also host screenings of the event. In addition to those
murdered on October 7, hundreds more Israelis have been killed in the
war sparked by the massacre, taking the toll to over 1,600.It is
believed that 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7
remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 33 confirmed dead by
the IDF. Hamas is also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the
Strip in 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who
were killed in 2014.Agencies contributed to this report.

delays start of school year amid increased fighting-Large strikes in

evacuation alerts for 25 areas in south Lebanon-By Emanuel

The Israel
Defense Forces continued its campaign of airstrikes in Lebanon on
Sunday, with the military saying it carried out a series of pinpoint
attacks on Hezbollah targets in Beirut overnight, including several
weapons depots and other terror infrastructure. The strikes caused large
fireballs and huge plumes of smoke in the southern suburbs of the
Lebanese capital. Smoke was still billowing from the site after dawn.
The Lebanese health ministry did not release information on
casualties. The strikes reportedly targeted a building near a road
leading to Lebanon’s international airport and another formerly used by
the Hezbollah-run broadcaster Al-Manar.The military said the strikes
were preceded by extensive steps to avoid harm to civilians, including
advance warning. The IDF accused Hezbollah of placing its arms storage
and production sites under residential buildings in the Lebanese
capital, endangering the population, and vowed to keep striking
Hezbollah’s military assets in full force. On Sunday morning, Lebanese
media reported another large Israeli strike in Beirut. There was no
immediate comment from the IDF.The Lebanese health ministry said Sunday
that Israeli strikes killed 23 people across the country a day earlier.
An additional 93 were wounded, the ministry said, without including
casualties in the airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs after
midnight. The health ministry figures did not differentiate between
civilians and combatants. The military said one airstrike killed
Hezbollah’s company commander in the southern Lebanese village of Kafr
Kila, who was responsible for a deadly anti-tank missile attack in
January. Hader Ali Tawil was behind the attack that killed Barak Ayalon,
45, and his mother Miri Ayalon, 76, when an anti-tank missile slammed
into their home in Kfar Yuval, the IDF said. The strikes came amid
continued rocket fire and drone launches from Lebanon at northern Israel
on Sunday. Two missiles fired at the northern coastal plain were shot
down by air defenses, the military said. The surface-to-surface missiles
triggered sirens between Haifa and Hadera along the coast. There were no
reports of injuries or damage in the attack.Additionally, several
suspected drones launched from Lebanon were shot down by Israeli air
defenses, the IDF said.According to the military, the “suspicious aerial
targets” did not cross into Israeli airspace. On Saturday, over 110
rockets were fired at northern Israel from Lebanon, with an additional
30 fired in an overnight barrage at Kiryat Shmona.Fighting continued in
southern Lebanon as the IDF issued new evacuation alerts for residents
of around 25 areas in southern Lebanon, calling on them to head
immediately north of the Awali River.Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Prime Minister
Najib Mikati called for “pressure on Israel” for a ceasefire as
Hezbollah continued to fire rockets and launch drones at Israel. Mikati
said he backed US and French efforts for a truce.Lebanon said the start
of the new school year was being postponed until November 4 due to the
escalation in fighting.Education Minister Abbas Halabi said the start
date for more than one million students would be delayed because of
“security risks.”Israel says it has widened operations against Hezbollah
to enable the safe return to their homes in the north of some 60,000
Israeli civilians who were evacuated when the Iran-backed terror group
began firing rockets on October 8. Hezbollah said the attacks were in
support of the Palestinians in Gaza amid the war sparked by Hamas’s
devastating onslaught a day earlier. So far, the skirmishes in the north
have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, and — excluding
the soldiers killed in the ground operation — the deaths of 22 IDF
soldiers and reservists. Two soldiers have been killed in a drone attack
from Iraq, and there have also been several attacks from Syria, without
any injuries. The IDF’s toll in the ground offensive against Hezbollah in
Lebanon stands at nine.Hezbollah has named 516 members who have been
killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but
some also in Syria. Another 94 operatives from other terror groups, a
Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have also been killed. These
numbers have not been consistently updated since Israel began a new
offensive against Hezbollah in September, including a ground operation
in which the military says at least 440 Hezbollah operatives have been
killed.
Hezbollah operatives were duped into holding pagers with 2
hands, causing worse injuries-Disclosing details of alleged Mossad
operation, sources tell Washington Post detonation signal was an
encrypted message that required double-button press to reveal
contents-By ToI Staff Today, 11:11 am-OCT 6,24
The signal that
detonated thousands of Hezbollah pagers last month was an encrypted
message that required users to hold the devices with both hands,
maximizing the chances of causing debilitating injuries, sources said in
a Saturday report. An alleged Israeli operation blew up pagers and
walkie-talkies used by the Lebanese terror group on September 17 and 18,
kicking off an ongoing series of Israeli airstrikes that have dealt
immense blows to Hezbollah, including the killing of its leader, Hassan
Nasrallah.Israeli, US, and Middle Eastern officials estimate that up to
3,000 Hezbollah members were killed or injured by the pagers, as well as
an unknown number of civilians, the Washington Post reported on
Saturday. The Post report — which cited Israeli, Arab, and American
security officials, politicians and diplomats, as well as Lebanese
sources close to Hezbollah, all of them anonymous — said the pagers were
made in Israel and conceived by the Mossad spy agency. After Mossad
officials revealed the capability to elected officials on September 12
and the operation was allegedly okayed by Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu’s cabinet, thousands of Hezbollah operatives got a message
telling them they had received an encrypted message that required
pressing two buttons — effectively forcing them to use both hands, and
to be injured in both hands when the blasts occurred as they pushed the
buttons.“You had to push two buttons to read the message,” one official
explained, so that the blast would likely “wound both their hands,”
rendering the user “incapable to fight.”The report also revealed that
hundreds of booby-trapped walkie-talkies — which were detonated a day
later — had been used by Hezbollah since 2015, providing Israel
continued real-time access into the terror group’s communications for
many years before the devices were weaponized in a more literal
way.Hezbollah had purchased pagers to avoid Israeli communications
surveillance. Earlier this year, a sales pitch convinced the group to
buy large-battery AR924 pagers from Apollo, a known Taiwanese brand. The
contact came from a woman who had in the past been a Middle East sales
agent for Apollo and who was trusted by Hezbollah. Officials declined to
reveal her identity. According to the Washington Post report, she had
set up her own company to sell pagers under the Apollo brand.Previous
media reports tracked down a woman called Cristiana Bársony-Arcidiacono,
the CEO of Budapest-based BAC Consulting, which the Taiwanese trademark
holder of the pagers said was responsible for manufacturing the
devices.Among the touted advantages of the pagers was their waterproof
design and a large battery that enabled months of use without
charging. The terror group bought 5,000 devices and manufacture was
outsourced. Unknown to Hezbollah — and apparently Apollo and the
saleswoman — they were assembled in Israel with a small amount of
explosive added to each battery. The pagers were eventually distributed
to what the report described as Hezbollah’s “mid-level fighters and
support personnel” in February. The tiny explosives in the pagers and the
walkie-talkies were concealed in a way that taking apart the device —
or even X-raying it — could not reveal the danger to Hezbollah members,
who readily embraced the Israeli-designed and -manufactured gadgets,
sources told the Post. Israeli officials assess that some of the devices
did in fact undergo such examinations, the report said. The existence of
the pager setup was only revealed to senior Israeli cabinet members on
September 12, when Netanyahu held a meeting with security advisers about
dealing with Hezbollah, the Israeli officials said.US officials said
that Washington was not told about the pagers or the discussions about
exploding them.Alongside using the pagers, Israeli officials also
discussed targeting Hezbollah leader Nasrallah, whose movements and
location Israel had known for years despite his furtive lifestyle,
officials said.Killing Nasrallah was expected to lead to an open war
with Hezbollah and, possibly, Iran. In addition, the US had been pushing
Nasrallah to agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon that would satisfy
Israel’s demand that Hezbollah withdraw its fighters from border
areas.US and Middle Eastern officials said that while Israel had
supported the US plan, Nasrallah refused, insisting that a halt in the
fighting only come after a ceasefire in Gaza.On September 17, the signal
was sent to detonate the pagers and a message in Arabic appeared on
their screens reading, “You received an encrypted message.”When the
operators pressed the two required buttons to read the message, the
pagers exploded. Less than 60 seconds later, the Post reported,
thousands of other pagers also exploded even without the pair of buttons
being used. The following day, hundreds of Hezbollah walkie-talkies also
exploded, causing deaths and injuries.Nasrallah was killed on September
27 in a massive attack on his Beirut bunker. The fighting with Hezbollah
began when the Iran-backed terror group started to launch cross-border
rocket and drone fire last October 8, one day after Palestinian terror
group Hamas led a devastating attack on Israel that opened the ongoing
war in the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah has since carried out near-daily
attacks in support of Hamas. The fighting has also drawn in direct rocket
barrages from Iran. Last week the Islamic Republic fired around 200
rockets at Israel, causing some damage, though most were either
intercepted or hit open areas. One of the apparent targets of the barrage
was Mossad headquarters near Tel Aviv.

Jabaliya push since start of war-IDF launches new ground op in north
Gaza’s Jabaliya to foil Hamas efforts to regroup-Army says preparing for
evacuation of all civilians from north of Strip into expanded
humanitarian zones; confirms strikes on operatives at former school,
mosque in Deir al-Balah-By Emanuel Fabian-and ToI Staff Today, 10:34

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that troops had
encircled Jabaliya amid a new ground operation targeting efforts by
Hamas to reestablish itself in northern Gaza. The military said that the
162nd Division’s 401st and 460th armored brigades encircled the city
overnight and troops were operating in the area following intelligence
on Hamas operatives and infrastructure, alongside efforts by the terror
group to regroup there. There were reports of loud explosions in the
Jabaliya area overnight. The IDF later said it carried out a wave of
airstrikes and artillery shelling as troops entered the area. The
military said the strikes targeted dozens of Hamas sites in Jabaliya,
including weapon depots, tunnels, cells of operatives, and other
infrastructure.Several dozen terror operatives were killed in airstrikes
and tank shelling, according to the IDF.“The operation will continue as
long as necessary, while systematically striking and thoroughly
destroying the terror infrastructure in the area,” the IDF said.Prior to
the operation, the 162nd Division was withdrawn from Rafah and the
Philadelphi Corridor — the Egypt-Gaza border area — after five months
there, and handed over responsibility for the area to the IDF’s Gaza
Division, the first time that the regional division has been given
responsibility over a large portion of the Strip. The IDF said there was
no reduction in forces in the Egypt-Gaza border area. The fresh operation
marked the fourth push into Jabaliya by the IDF since the start of the
war a year ago. The most recent round of fighting there in May was
described by the IDF and some officers as “intense” and the “most
violent” of the war. The operation comes just days after the military
launched a ground offensive in Lebanon against the Hezbollah terror
group.Amid the expanded operation, the IDF announced on Sunday that it
was preparing to evacuate civilians from the entire north of Gaza, and
would increase the size of the Israeli-designated humanitarian zone in
the southern Strip. The zone, where the vast majority of the Gazan
population currently reside, is where most humanitarian aid is being
delivered. There are also field hospitals there. The IDF published maps
for Palestinian civilians “highlighting potential evacuation areas in
northern Gaza, including ‘block zones’ that correspond to neighborhoods
and regions.”The military also said it was opening up two evacuation
routes for Palestinians — along the Salah a-Din road and the coastal
road. Some 200,000 Palestinians are estimated to remain in northern Gaza,
after the IDF called for the entire region to evacuate to the Strip’s
south early in the war.The preparations for the evacuation of the
northern part of the coastal enclave came just a day after the IDF
called on Palestinian civilians in parts of the central Gaza Strip to
move to the humanitarian zones. Meanwhile, there were heavy Israeli
strikes in other parts of Gaza overnight, as the IDF said that warplanes
conducted a pinpoint strike on terror operatives who were at a command
center in a compound that formerly housed the Ibn Rushd school in Deir
al-Balah in the central Strip.Additionally, the IDF said another
targeted airstrike hit a second Hamas control center in Deir al-Balah,
located in the former site of the Shuhada al-Aqsa mosque, where Gaza
medical officials said at least 18 people were killed. The number could
not be independently verified and Hamas does not differentiate between
civilians and terror operatives.Hospital records showed that the dead
were all men.The IDF said that command centers were used by Hamas to
plan and carry out terror attacks against IDF forces and Israel. The
military said that many steps were taken to mitigate potential harm to
civilians in both strikes, including using accurate munitions, aerial
visual intelligence and intelligence information. The latest military
action in the Strip comes as the IDF prepares for the likelihood of
Hamas efforts to launch attacks on the anniversary of the terror group’s
deadly October 7 onslaught in southern Israel that sparked the war.On
Saturday night, IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari warned at a
televised briefing that Israeli civilians could be targeted.“We are
prepared with increased forces in anticipation for this day,” when there
could be “attacks on the home front,” he said. The Hamas-run Gaza health
ministry says more than 41,000 people in the Strip have been killed or
are presumed dead in the fighting there so far, though the toll cannot
be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.
Israel says it has killed some 17,000 combatants in battle as of August
and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.Israel has said
it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities and stresses that Hamas uses
Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas
including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.Israel’s toll in the
ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along
the border with the Strip stands at 348.Agencies contributed to this
report.
After 40,000 planned to attend, alternative Oct. 7
memorial limited to 2,000 people-Organizers say wartime cap on
gatherings will limit crowd, invite public to watch in their own
communities; Herzog says Israel can’t fully heal while hostages remain

An
unofficial commemoration marking a year since Hamas’s October 7 massacre
will be held with a limited crowd made up of families of the victims
due to IDF Home Front Command restrictions currently in place that
prevent large gatherings amid the recent fighting with Hezbollah, its
organizers said Saturday. The commemoration, which was organized by the
families, is set to be held at Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park at 7 p.m. on
Monday and will be broadcast on Israeli television stations and dozens
of foreign broadcast networks.Dozens of cities in Israel and around the
world will also host screenings of the event.“The ceremony is expected
to be difficult and painful to watch, and we ask that the general public
obey the life-saving instructions and watch it together with their
loved ones in the various communities,” the organizers said in a
statement.Currently, the IDF Home Front Command limits gatherings to up
to 2,000 people in Tel Aviv due to the ongoing threat of rocket attacks.
Organizers said last month that all 40,00 tickets to the event had been
reserved within eight hours of them being released. The event will be
co-emceed by writer, actor and comedian Hanoch Daum and actress and TV
host Rotem Sela. Artists Aviv Gefen, Agam Buhbut, Eden Hasson, Ran
Danker, Shlomo Artzi and others will perform at the event.Meanwhile, a
pre-recorded state memorial is expected to air at 9:15 p.m. that
evening.Families of hostages and other victims of October 7 have fumed
at the government’s decision to charge Transportation Minister Miri
Regev with organizing that event.Several Gaza border communities have
accused the government of using the official ceremony to avoid
responsibility for the role it played in failing to prevent Hamas terror
assault, and for failing the communities in the aftermath of the
massacre. Many of them announced that they would not participate in
Regev’s ceremony. The minister has refused a number of compromise
proposals to solve the dispute. Regev dismissed the criticism as “noise”
and compared the idea of holding memorial ceremonies other than the
official one to a contentious annual joint Israeli-Palestinian memorial
ceremony held annually on Memorial Day, which is seen by right-wing
critics as equating terror victims with slain assailants, or criticized
for equating Israeli and Palestinian pain.‘Our wounds still cannot fully
heal’President Isaac Herzog said Saturday that Israel remains wounded
by the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, with 101 hostages still held
captive in Gaza and residents displaced by ongoing fighting.“Our wounds
still cannot fully heal because they are ongoing. Because hostages are
still being tortured, executed, and dying in captivity,” the president
said in a statement broadcast to mark a full year since the Hamas
onslaught.President Isaac Herzog at the inauguration ceremony for the
new monument in memory of Jerusalem residents who were murdered on
October 7 or He also said Iran remains an “ongoing threat” to Israel, as
the region waits for Jerusalem’s response to Tuesday’s Iranian
ballistic missile attack.“In many senses, we are still living the
aftermath of October 7… It is in the ongoing threat to the Jewish state
by Iran and its terror proxies, who are blinded by hatred and bent on
the destruction of our one and only Jewish nation-state,” Herzog
said.Monday marks one year since the October 7, 2023, terror onslaught,
in which Hamas-led terrorists murdered some 1,200 people and took 251
hostages in the deadliest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

NEW YORK — This October 7, 1,200
Israeli flags will be planted in a field in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Meanwhile, family, friends, and former classmates and teachers will
gather at King David High School in Vancouver, Canada, to remember
alumnus Ben Mizrachi, who was murdered at the Supernova music festival
near Kibbutz Re’im.The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) plans
to hold over 400 such events across 180 cities to mark one year since
Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel, brutally murdering 1,200
people, most of them civilians, in the worst massacre of Jews since the
Holocaust.Of the 251 hostages Hamas kidnapped to the Gaza Strip that
day; 101 remain in captivity, though not all are alive. In addition to
sparking the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, the onslaught also triggered an
outpouring of antisemitism worldwide. And as federation leaders plan
events, they also find themselves reflecting on how they’ve been
personally affected by the past year.“I have never felt more honored or
more privileged to play a role in supporting Jewish communities as this
date approaches,” said JFNA executive vice president Shira Hutt. “Many
of us are still moving through the pain and trauma of what happened in
Israel and how it played out in communities across North America. We are
still holding the pain of what happened.”Hutt, who has worked in Jewish
spaces for over 20 years, said she expects that while every community
will approach the day somewhat differently, most will lean heavily into
rituals such as lighting memorial candles and reciting the traditional
Kaddish mourning prayer. In New York City, home to the largest Jewish
community outside of Israel, the UJA-Federation of New York will hold
eight events across five boroughs. The marquee event, which will
accommodate 5,000 people, will take place in Midtown Manhattan. An
overflow site will accommodate 3,000 more, said UJA-Federation of New
York CEO Eric Goldstein, who added that the precise locations of the
event and overflow site have yet to be disclosed for security
reasons.Goldstein was visiting his daughter and granddaughter in Tel
Aviv on October 7 of last year, and so as he puts the finishing touches
on the event, memories of that day sit just below the surface.“It weighs
very directly on [my family], on me, and us as a community,” Goldstein
said. “The reverberations of the attack continue. The dramatic
antisemitism directed at Jews after the attack means it’s more important
than ever to maintain and strengthen ties. If there is a small ray of
light in all this, it’s that Jews in New York have dramatically
reconnected with each other.”Fear of attacks-Aside from the sorrow,
there has also been uncertainty and fear among Jews in the Diaspora. In
the immediate aftermath of the attack and before Israel responded to it,
anti-Israel protesters around the world took to the streets in droves.
In the United States and elsewhere, Jewish students report harassment
and intimidation by classmates and faculty as the war drags on; Jewish
writers have been blacklisted and berated by anti-Israel activists for
having expressed anything other than condemnation for the Jewish state;
and Jewish medical professionals say they are being ostracized by
peers.“This past year has seen an unprecedented rise in antisemitism,
showing us a Canada many of us do not recognize and resulting in an
increase of approximately 1,300% in security needs,” said Ezra S.
Shanken, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver.“Yet, amidst
the challenges, our community has shown incredible resilience, with more
individuals seeking connection and support. Combating hate and ensuring
the safety of our community are increasingly critical priorities of our
work,” he said. There was a 63% increase in antisemitic hate crimes from
2022 to 2023, according to the FBI’s annual hate crime statistics for
2023. Although Jews only make up 2% of the US population, antisemitism
motivated two-thirds of religious-based hate crimes, according to the
report.“Hate crimes — including antisemitism — started dramatically
increasing after the 2016 campaign, with flashpoints like
Charlottesville and Pittsburgh and thousands of smaller but still hugely
dangerous incidents. And post-October 7, this crisis has expanded in
even more dire ways,” Amy Spitalnick, CEO of the Jewish Council for
Public Affairs, said in a statement.Meanwhile, on Wednesday, which is
the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the six-story building that houses the Jewish
Federation of Los Angeles will be wrapped in the federation logo, with
the “A” in the logo represented by a yellow hostage ribbon.Commemoration
plans have been underway for several months, said the federation’s CEO
and president Rabbi Noah Farkas. On October 7 it will co-host a program
with the Israeli-American Council, Stand With Us, Temple of the Arts and
over 60 synagogues at the city’s historic, 2,100-seat Saban Theatre. The
event, which will feature actor and activist Mayim Bialik and over 30
elected officials, is already sold out. However, it will be
live-streamed and watch parties are planned at various Hillels and
synagogues.Rabbi Noah Farkas, left, CEO and president of the Jewish
Federation of LA, visits ravaged kibbutzim near the Gaza border shortly
after the October 7 terror onslaught.Farkas said the event planners are
being careful to keep politics out of the commemoration, as well as
anything overtly graphic.“Survivors can talk about what they felt as
they ran, but not what they saw. The emphasis will be on the people and
the emotions of that day and the days since,” Farkas said. That focus on
emotions will be the centerpiece of a “Night to Remember,” in
Oregon.Micha Bitton, an Israeli musical performer from one of the Gaza
border kibbutzim destroyed during the terror rampage, will be performing
and sharing his own personal story during an October 6 event
co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, along with 40
other communal organizations.Whether it’s a memorial flag display in
honor of October 7 victims or hearing testimony from Nova Music Festival
survivors, federation leaders agree the solemnity of the day must also
highlight Jewish solidarity.“During the past year, I’ve seen the various
ways in which Jewish communities across North America have reconnected
with Israel as well as with each other. In the face of rising
antisemitism and what happened on October 7 there have also been moments
of tremendous hope and inspiration,” Hutt said.
Netanyahu:
Israel has duty and right to hit back at Iran for missile attack, will
do so-Prime minister says no country would accept rocket barrages on its
citizens, and neither will Israel, touts successes in north against
Iran’s proxy Hezbollah-By Lazar Berman-and ToI Staff 5 October 2024,
11:56 pm
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday repeated
his promise to strike back against Iran for its ballistic missile attack
earlier in the week, saying Israel has an obligation to retaliate and
will do so.Speaking from the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv,
Netanyahu said: “No country in the world would accept such an attack on
its cities and citizens, and Israel won’t either.“Israel has the duty
and the right to defend itself and respond to these attacks — and it
will do so.”The attack of some 180 ballistic missiles launched Tuesday
caused some damage in Israel, including in Israeli airbases. The
military has said that no aircraft or critical infrastructure were hit,
and the Israeli Air Force is operating at full capacity. Most of the
incoming missiles were either intercepted by air defenses or landed in
open areas. However, the attack sent 10 million Israelis rushing for
cover and caused damage to civilian structures as well, including a
school. The Israel Defense Forces said earlier Saturday the response
would be “serious and significant.”Iran’s rocket barrage, the second
such attack this year, came amid the war against terror groups Hamas in
the Gaza Strip and Hezbollah in Lebanon.Iran said it fired the missiles
into Israel in response to attacks that killed leaders of Hezbollah,
Hamas and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. It referenced Hezbollah
leader Hassan Nasrallah and Revolutionary Guard Gen. Abbas Nilforoushan,
both killed in an Israeli airstrike last week in Beirut. It also
mentioned Ismail Haniyeh, the former leader of Hamas who was
assassinated in Tehran in July in an attack widely attributed to
Israel. Most of Netanyahu’s other remarks focused on the fighting in
Lebanon, where he said Israel was changing “the balance of power in the
north.”Nearly a year into a war that began on October 7, when Hamas led a
devastating attack on Israel, the military is also battling Iran-backed
Hezbollah which began attacking Israel’s north the day after the Hamas
assault. Over the past few weeks, Israel has moved its military focus to
the north, where near-daily rocket and drone attacks by Hezbollah since
October have forced over 60,000 people to leave their homes.“About a
month ago, as we moved toward the end of the destruction of Hamas
battalions in Gaza, we started fulfilling the promise I gave to the
residents of the north,” said the premier, referring to his pledge to
return them to their homes.“We eliminated [Hezbollah leader Hassan]
Nasrallah and the Hezbollah leadership, we eliminated the commanders of
the Radwan Force who planned to invade the Galilee and carry out a
greater and more terrible massacre of our citizens than that of October
7,” Netanyahu said, referring to a series of successes Israel has scored
against the group.Netanyahu asserted that Israel has destroyed “a large
part” of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket stockpile. “And right now our
heroic soldiers are destroying the array of terror tunnels that
Hezbollah secretly prepared, close to our borders,” he said, adding that
“although we have not yet completed the removal of the threat, we have
clearly changed the course of the war and the balance of the war — and
we’re not done yet.”Netanyahu mocked the late Hezbollah leader for
calling Israeli society a “spider’s web” in a famous speech years
ago.“He and the whole world discovered the iron sinews of Israel — a
strong country with a strong, daring and moral army,” he said. “A
country determined to defend itself against any threat.”“That includes
the threat from Iran, which is behind all the attacks on us — from Gaza,
from Lebanon, from Yemen, from Iraq and Syria — and of course, from
Iran itself,” said Netanyahu. In a subsequent video posted to his social
media accounts, Netanyahu lambasted French President Emmanuel Macron for
urging an arms embargo on Israel.“As Israel fights the forces of
barbarism led by Iran, all civilized countries should be standing firmly
by Israel’s side,” Netanyahu said.“Yet President Macron and other
Western leaders are now calling for arms embargoes against Israel,” he
continued. “Shame on them.”My message to Macron >>
