A Canadian-based sugar manufacturer will collaborate with Israeli startup DouxMatok to create sugar-cane based sweeteners that are 30 to 50 percent lower in sugar for food manufacturers in North America.The accord between the publicly traded Rogers Sugar Inc., the parent company parent of Lantic Inc., and DouxMatok, whose technology enhances the delivery and flavor of sugar by targeting specific taste buds, is an important step toward the commercialization of the Israeli startup’s technology, the firms said in a joint statement on Wednesday.DouxMatok engineers sugar grains so that most of the flavor reaches the taste buds, where the sweetness is felt, in contrast to normal sugar, where 80% of the sugar goes directly into the stomach.The DouxMatok technology coats sugar molecules onto a tasteless mineral or a fiber or protein that are made for the purpose, which the company says ensures that more of the sugar lands on the taste buds. This allows for considerable reduction in sugar content while retaining the same taste. Pro-LGBT legislation that sought to make official state documents more inclusive of same-sex couples was rejected by the Knesset Wednesday.The bill fell 48 to 25 in its initial reading after Blue and White abstained, despite supporting the measure on paper, in order to toe the line of its right-wing and ultra-Orthodox coalition partners. Only members of Yesh Atid, Yisrael Beytenu and one Blue and White MK voted for the legislation.The measure would have changed the parental information section of all government forms and documents, including identity cards and passports, to read “parent 1” and “parent 2” as opposed to the current heteronormative categories of “mother” and “father.”Blue and White MK Eitan Ginzburg, who is openly gay, broke ranks with the rest of his party to support the measure.Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn (Blue and White) was also present during the vote but abstained. Blaming the Likud party, Nissenkorn said the legislation had not been brought before government ministers, and that it could not be supported before first being agreed upon by the coalition partners.“I have made it clear to the plenum that I am determined to promote equality in all areas of life, including the LGBT community, with broad consensus,” he said.Nissenkorn added that there were many official forms that could be changed already, and Blue and White ministers would see to changing the forms within their respective ministries, he said according to Walla news.Opposition leader Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid) attacked Blue and White, and accused Nissenkorn of selling out his convictions.“There is a point when a person needs to say that if he is working against his own values and conscience, he is not a good person. The Trump administration is expected to announce it will allow US citizens born in Jerusalem to list Israel as their country of birth on their passports, Politico reports.According to the news site, which cites an unnamed US official, the policy change could be announced as soon as tomorrow.Current US policy is that American citizens born in Jerusalem identify only the city as their birthplace in their passports, unless they were born before Israel’s creation in 1948. In those cases, they can list “Palestine” as their birthplace.The reported change will follow a series of other recent moves by Trump seen as pro-Israel, ahead of next week’s US presidential elections.

They’ve embarked upon this project, or it came upon them, and they won’t change. They can’t change. If they change, the Israeli occupation will finish them off,” al-Zahar said.“Can this organization, which is dependent on Israel and external actors for financial support — can this organization do without such support?” al-Zahar asked rhetorically.Senior officials in both Hamas and Fatah claimed in late September to have made major strides toward bridging the gaps between them.
