Promises to keep-Giant Jerusalem poster thanks Trump for embassy move-‘Mazeltov on your decision,’ reads a perhaps premature Bethlehem Road banner on the side of a construction site-By Times of Israel staff January 22, 2017, 4:49 am
A multi-story poster in Jerusalem’s Baka neighborhood hails US President Donald Trump’s proclaimed plan to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital. The sign, which went up in the days leading up to Trump’s Friday inauguration, reads: “Mazeltov on your decision to move your Embassy to Jerusalem.”Trump vowed to make the move while on the campaign trail and after his election victory in November. The poster is part of an ad for a real-estate development company. It covers the side of a building under construction in the capital’s Bethlehem Road, and has become a favorite target for shutterbugs in recent days. The congratulations may be premature. Despite the campaign promises, Trump’s transition team and White House officials have declined to confirm any specific plan to move the embassy.Still, last week, Trump told the Israel Hayom Hebrew-language daily that he intended to go through with his pledge, saying that “clearly I did not forget” the promise made on the campaign trail.Asked by the paper Tuesday night at the Chairman’s Global Dinner in Washington, DC — an exclusive black tie event for diplomats and members of the incoming administration — if “you have not forgotten your promise concerning the embassy in Jerusalem,” Trump responded that “of course I remember what I said about Jerusalem.”“You know that I am not a person who breaks promises,” he added in comments published in Hebrew by the paper on Thursday morning. And on Thursday, Trump’s then-incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said an announcement on the administration’s plan to relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was in the works.Asked about Trump’s intention to make the move — upending decades of US policy on the issue — Spicer told reporters to “stay tuned” and that “there will be a further announcement on that.”Spicer’s statement came less than 24 hours after newly retired president Barack Obama warned his successor to be sure he’s “thought it through,” warning that “unilateral actions” in a volatile region like the Middle East can be “explosive.”“The actions we take have enormous consequences and ramifications,” Obama said when asked about Trump’s stated goal of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s sovereign capital. “We’re the biggest kid on the block.”“I think it is right and appropriate for a new president to test all the assumptions and re-examine the old ways of doing things,” he added. “But if you’re going to make big shifts in policy, just make sure you’ve thought it through and understand that there are going to be consequences.”Palestinian and Arab leaders have warned that relocating the embassy could lead to mass protests and unrest. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has indicated he could revoke the PLO’s recognition of Israel, while Abbas’s Fatah party warned the move “would open the gates of hell.”Members of the Israeli government, meanwhile, have been vocally supportive of the plan, but Israeli security officials are reportedly preparing for possible violence in the wake of such a move.According to a report Friday in the Haaretz newspaper, officials from the IDF, police and Shin Bet earlier this week presented Netanyahu and senior members of the cabinet — among them Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan — with scenarios that could ensue after an embassy relocation. The prime minister instructed the security officials to prepare for such a move from the moment that the new president is sworn in.Haaretz quoted two senior Israeli officials familiar with topics raised at the meeting as saying that Netanyahu and others present made it clear that Israel has no solid information on if and when Trump will issue a notice to transfer the embassy to Jerusalem. One of the officials said Netanyahu has spoken with Trump by phone several times since the election, but at the time of the meeting, had not received a clear answer from the new president about the timing of an embassy relocation.According to Haaretz, the two officials said that the purpose of the meeting was to prepare for possible repercussions from the relocation of the embassy, particularly in light of a media campaign being waged against it by the Palestinian Authority. One of the officials said there has been explicit incitement to violence by Palestinian officials in recent weeks regarding the matter.News agencies contributed to this report.
Jerusalem mayor says he’s in talks with US about embassy move-Nir Barkat believes Trump is serious about controversial relocation, but warns it won’t be done in a day-By Joshua Davidovich January 23, 2017, 10:40 am-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said Monday he has held talks with American officials about moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a day after a White House official said discussions of the controversial transfer were only in their early stages.Barkat, who has hailed Trump for committing to move the embassy to Jerusalem, a move long sought by Israeli officials, said he believes the administration intends to follow through on its promises.“From the conversations I’ve had with US government officials, I know they are serious in their intentions [to move the embassy],” Barkat told Army Radio. He said the Americans owned a number of a properties in Jerusalem they could use to house the embassy.“I definitely don’t think they will move the embassy in a day,” he acknowledged, though. On Sunday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said talks had begun on moving the embassy, but seemed to indicate an actual move could be a long time away.“We are at the very beginning stages of even discussing this subject,” Spicer said in a statement. The statement contrasted with reports over the last several weeks that the announcement of the move could come as early as this week, but also confirmed that the administration intends to at least entertain the plan, despite warnings from the international community that it could significantly ramp up tensions in the volatile region.Spicer’s statement came about an hour before Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held their first phone conversation since Trump became president Friday, with the president inviting Netanyahu to visit next month.Neither the White House nor the Prime Minister’s Office made any mention of the embassy move in statements sent out following the phone call. While far from a full announcement of the move, as some had expected would be in the offing, Spicer’s statement still represented the most serious commitment by a sitting US president to transfer the embassy, a move Israeli officials have pushed for over decades.Like other presidential candidates, Trump promised to make the embassy move. But presidents have avoided following through on that pledge in part because of concerns that it would inflame tensions in the Middle East.In Israel, the statement was interpreted as confirmation that the embassy would be moved.“US Embassy on the way to Jerusalem,” read a chyron at the top of Channel 2’s main news program at 8 p.m.Several Israeli officials quickly reacted to the statement by thanking Trump for transferring the embassy from Tel Aviv.“Trump proves that he is a true friend of the State of Israel who makes good on his promises,” Barkat said in a statement shortly after Spicer’s announcement.Jerusalem Affairs Minister Ze’ev Elkin said he “welcomed the Trump administration making the campaign promise a reality.”Trump vowed to move the embassy during his address at last year’s AIPAC Policy Conference, and he has indicated during his transition that he will follow through on that promise. However, the plan has brought warnings of far-reaching diplomatic repercussions, as well as the possibility of violence.Palestinian and Arab leaders have warned that relocating the embassy could lead to mass protests and unrest.Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas indicated he could revoke the PLO’s recognition of Israel, while his Fatah party warned the move “would open the gates of hell.”On Sunday, top Palestinian official Jibril Rajoub told The Times of Israel such a move would be a “declaration of war.”In December, reports emerged that Trump’s advisers were already in the process of planning the relocation, though Spicer’s statement seemed to counter that narrative.White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has said it is “a very big priority” for Trump.Trump’s nominee as ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, has indicated he will live in an apartment he owns in Jerusalem while serving as envoy.Israeli officials have loudly pushed for the embassy move, seeing it as long-sought US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The move would “send a clear message to the world that Jerusalem is the united capital of the State of Israel,” Barkat said in a message last week.In 1995, Congress adopted a resolution, led by former House speaker and current Trump confidant Newt Gingrich, that called on the president to move the embassy. But each presidency since then has repeatedly used the prerogative granted to them to delay implementation of that demand. The current waiver expires in May 2017.Each president since then, including Barack Obama, has maintained that the future status of Jerusalem should be settled in final negotiations between the parties, as both Israelis and Palestinians claim the holy city as their rightful capital.Eric Cortellessa, Avi Issacharoff and AP contributed to this report.
High Court halts work on Amona outpost compromise-Ruling comes after Palestinian landowners’ petition, top official says deal with residents in doubt because of legal complications-By AFP and Times of Israel staff January 23, 2017, 7:36 pm
The High Court of Justice on Monday issued a temporary injunction halting work to prepare a new location for the Amona outpost in the West Bank, complicating government efforts to find a solution for the settlers and avoid a possible violent standoff.Amona is scheduled for court-ordered removal by a February 8 deadline and, in a deal struck last month with the government, the residents agreed to move to an adjacent plot. The injunction prevents preparation of the new site until a further decision is taken, but does not halt the removal of the existing outpost. The petition, filed by human rights group Yesh Din, objected to a government plan to divide certain plots, which supposedly had no present claimant, and called for the deal to be canceled.“Ever since the notion of using abandoned property was suggested, we have claimed that one injustice cannot be corrected with another, and that additional land cannot be taken over just to appease Amona residents,” Yesh Din executive director Neta Patrick said in a statement. The deal had apparently run into trouble even before the court ruling, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s chief of staff Yoav Horowitz reportedly telling ministers from his Likud party on Sunday that the agreement with Amona residents could not be implemented because of legal complications. The lack of a clear solution has once again raised the possibility of a forced evacuation of the Amona settlers and fears that violence could result.Settlers in the Amona outpost of some 40 families, which was built on Palestinian land, accused the government Monday of not living up to the terms of the deal reached in December that would see them voluntarily moved nearby.“Right now we’re dealing with the fact that the government and officials lied,” said Eli Greenberg, an Amona resident and spokesman for the outpost.“They promised all kinds of lies to us.”Leader of the Campaign for Amona organization Avichai Baron said in an interview with the Hebrew-language Ynet website that the outpost residents had been cheated by the government.“You led us astray, and swindled us,” he complained. “The agreement said that alternative homes are to be built for the families. That didn’t happen and it isn’t starting to happen. We don’t intend to keep to the agreement of voluntary evacuation since you didn’t keep to the agreement. Deals need to be honored.”The Defense Ministry unit that oversees civilian affairs in the West Bank did not respond to a request for comment. The long-running saga has centered on a 2014 high court ruling ordering the outpost northeast of the town of Ramallah to be evacuated because it was built on private Palestinian land.An initial deadline of December 25, 2016 was given for the outpost to be removed.Hundreds of hardline Jewish youths also flooded into the outpost in a bid to prevent the evacuation. But with the deadline approaching, Israeli right-wing politicians rushed to Amona’s defense while also promoting a bill to legalize thousands of other settler homes in the West Bank.Negotiations resulted in a deal on December 18, under which Amona residents agreed to relocate peacefully to nearby land considered abandoned. The court then granted an extension of the deadline to February 8 when the settlers promised to relocate peacefully.

EU, US officials slam German ruling synagogue arson not anti-Semitic-Court said 2014 attack by 3 men of Palestinian descent was an expression of anti-Israel, not anti-Jewish, protest-By Raoul Wootliff January 23, 2017, 7:12 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
BRUSSELS, Belgium — European and US officials on Monday slammed a German court’s ruling earlier this month that an arson attack on a synagogue was an expression of anti-Israel protest and should not be considered anti-Semitism.Speaking at the European Jewish Association’s annual Jewish Leaders Conference in the Belgian capital, representatives of both the European Union and the US State Department questioned the Dusseldorf High Court’s decision, which found no procedural errors in the 2015 and 2016 trials against three men of Palestinian descent for felony arson against a Wuppertal synagogue.“We believe that when a Jewish house of worship is firebombed in response to Israeli policy, it is anti-Semitism,” Holly Huffnagle, from the US State Department Office of Religion and Global Affairs, said.Huffnagle, who acted as an adviser to Ira Forman, the special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism under former US secretary of state John Kerry, said that while criticism of Israel is not inherently anti-Semitic,” in the Dusseldorf case case, “a line had been crossed between legitimate criticism of Israeli policy and anti-Semitism.”Katharina Von Schnurbein, the European Union’s coordinator on anti-Semitism, speaking with Huffnagle on a panel exploring “The new anti-Semitism,” said she and her office agreed.“In my opinion, throwing Molotov cocktails into a synagogue is always anti-Semitism,” Von Schnurbein said. The arson attack on the Bergisch Synagogue in Wuppertal took place in the early morning hours of July 29, 2014, following an end of Ramadan celebration and during the height of anti-Israel protests in Germany and elsewhere over the Gaza war.The men were found guilty of arson and given suspended sentences in 2015 with a threat of jail if they got into trouble again; their threatened jail terms were lengthened in January 2016 following an appeal by the state prosecutor. The high court last month rejected the defendants’ appeal on procedural grounds. In a statement last week, Moshe Kantor, the president of the European Jewish Congress, said it was “unbelievable that attempts to burn a synagogue have been equated with displeasure with Israeli government policies.” He said the verdict back in 2015 had been equal to an “open season on Jews.”The three defendants had claimed during their 2015 trial that they were drunk and high on marijuana when they tried to take out their anger against Israel over the war in Gaza by throwing Molotov cocktails toward the synagogue. A neighbor witnessed the incident and alerted police. Damage was minimal and there were no injuries. The men insisted they had not wanted to hurt anyone. They apologized to the Jewish community.Though the head of the local Jewish community, Leonid Goldberg, said he saw the attack as a sign of “pure anti-Semitism,” the court did not agree. The targeting of a Jewish place of worship was “serious circumstantial evidence” but did not allow the court to conclude it owed to anti-Semitic motive, the judges wrote in 2015.Last year, a court in Essen upheld a verdict that anti-Israel chants of “death and hate to Zionists” at a demonstration were tantamount to anti-Semitism. After losing his appeal, the defendant’s sentence of probation was increased to ten months.— JTA contributed to this report.
As anti-Semitic tides rise, Diaspora turns to Israel for help-‘It’s very important that Israel give help to European countries to fight against this terrorism,’ says head of Belgium Jewish community-By Raoul Wootliff January 23, 2017, 4:35 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
BRUSSELS — Leaders of Jewish communities across Europe called on Israel Monday to help them tackle the rising threat of terrorism and anti-Semitism, saying that the Jewish state can provide vital security assistance against potential attacks.Speaking at the European Jewish Association’s annual Jewish Leaders Conference here in the Belgian capital, community leaders spoke of how growing anti-Semitic sentiment caused by both far-right political gains and left-wing anti-Zionist activists have led to an increasing number of attacks and other incidents across Europe.Philippe Markiewicz, chairman of the Consistoire of Belgium, an umbrella group of Jewish organizations in the country, said that European communities could stand to benefit form Israel’s experience in combating terrorism.“I think that Israel can help Europe a lot to fight against terrorism because Israel has a long experience of the subject,” Markiewicz said. “It’s very important that Israel give help to European countries to fight against this terrorism.”Citing a string of deadly terror attacks that hit Brussels, as well as Belgium’s neighbor France, in recent years, Markiewicz said that European countries are now more understanding of the challenges facing Jewish communities.“For many years we Jews were the targets of terrorism — today, we are still targets but we are not the only targets. In the past we have felt very alone because we felt that others did not understand the situation of the Jew in Europe, but that has changed with Charlie Hebdo, Paris and Brussels. People realize that we are all victims of terrorism,” he said. With that in mind, Markiewicz said, Israel can play a greater a role in helping Europe protect itself. At least 34 people were killed and scores were wounded in twin attacks in Brussels’s airport and metro in March 2016. The bombings followed similar mass casualty attacks in France, including a January 2015 shooting at the Hyper Cacher kosher market in Paris in which four people were killed. As part of a series of discussions on tackling anti-Semitism across Europe, participants of the conference heard a presentation from Israeli security officials on how better to protect Jewish institutions.Pascal Markowicz of CRIF, an umbrella organization of French Jewish groups, told the conference that since the attacks, France has upped its rhetoric against anti-Semitism; yet, he added, “we don’t see a lot of actions from the government.” He said that it was thus up to the Jewish community to heighten its own vigilance.“It is a war against us, and as such we must act like soldiers,” he said. “We have to train, because if we don’t we will be vulnerable.”Alexander Zaltsman, a representative of the Jewish Communities of Russia, said that there had been hundreds of anti-Semitic attacks in the country over the past year, but that there had also been an increase in the number of people brought to justice for such incidents, with 124 charged for attacks in 2016.

Last week, Rajoub called Trump a 'lunatic' and a 'fascist' for contemplating embassy relocation-Senior Palestinian official: Moving US embassy ‘a declaration of war’ on Muslims-Jibril Rajoub threatens ‘consequences’ if Trump goes ahead with Jerusalem move; other PA officials say PLO could revoke recognition of Israel-By Avi Issacharoff January 23, 2017, 1:43 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
A senior Palestinian official warned Sunday that a move by the Trump administration to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem would be perceived as an act of aggression against the entire Muslim world.“In our opinion moving the embassy to Jerusalem is a declaration of war against Muslims,” Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rajoub, who also presides over the Palestinian soccer association, told The Times of Israel in an interview.Rajoub, one of the most powerful figures in Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s ruling Fatah party, warned that “it is not inconceivable that the United States will give the Jews the keys to the holy sites in Jerusalem – sites also holy to both Christians and Muslims. If someone among you [Israelis] thinks there won’t be consequences, he is making a grave mistake.”“We are talking about a dangerous step that won’t bring stability to the ground,” he continued, adding that “it contradicts previous United Nations resolutions and the policy of the United States since 1967.”“We don’t intend to wave a white flag” in front of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or US President Donald Trump, he declared.Last week, Rajoub called Trump a “lunatic” and a “fascist,” attacking his promise to move the embassy to Jerusalem in an interview translated by MEMRI.On Sunday, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said talks had begun on moving the embassy, but seemed to indicate an actual move could be a long time away. “We are at the very beginning stages of even discussing this subject,” he said in a statement. The statement contrasted with reports over the last several weeks that the announcement of the move could come as early as this week, but also confirmed that the administration intends to at least entertain the plan, despite warnings from the international community that it could significantly ramp up tensions in the volatile region.Spicer’s statement came about an hour before Trump and Netanyahu held their first phone conversation since Trump became president Friday, with the president inviting Netanyahu to visit next month. Neither the White House nor the Prime Minister’s Office made any mention of the embassy move in statements sent out following the phone call.Rajoub’s comments echoed statements made by other officials in the PA and Fatah, as well as declarations by leaders in the Arab world, including in states that are considered moderate and have relations with Israel. One such country, Jordan, a key player in the saga over the potential embassy move, has already said such a step would be “crossing a red line.” The ruling Hashemite dynasty in Jordan sees itself as the protector of the holy Muslim sites in Jerusalem, in particular the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which its stewards in the Islamic Waqf administer. Thus, Amman asserts that if the new US administration follows through with its promise to move the embassy, it will constitute a direct attack on its authority in Jerusalem and its status at the city’s holy sites.Jordan’s King Abdullah met with Abbas in Amman on Sunday to discuss the issue. According to Israel Radio, Abbas asked Abdullah to help establish a direct line of communication between the PA and the administration in light of growing anxiety regarding the embassy move.Following the meeting, Abbas said that he and Abdullah agreed upon “a series of steps we’ll take if the US moves the embassy to Jerusalem,” without elaborating.A Palestinian official told Israel Radio after the meeting that if Trump gives the go-ahead to the embassy move, the PA will turn to the United Nations General Assembly to request a suspension of Israel’s UN membership. On Monday, a spokesman for the Jordanian government said that unspecified contacts were taking place to safeguard the kingdom’s role as caretaker of the Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and declared that Israel, as an occupying power, has no right to make unilateral changes in areas it had taken by force.Saudi Arabia has also warned of the consequences that will result from moving the embassy to Jerusalem.Palestinian officials told The Times of Israel that any step by the Americans and Israelis to move the embassy to Jerusalem will likely have dramatic consequences. According to the officials, the leadership of the Palestinian Liberation Organization has already decided that if the move goes through it will renounce its recognition of Israel, as well as in practice its recognition of the Oslo Accords. On Monday, the PLO leadership is expected to meet in order to deliberate the possibility the embassy will indeed by moved, as well as its response to such a step. “No one will try and no one can demand from people to act with restraint. No one will try to stop the demonstrations on the ground against a step like this,” the officials said.-Pressure builds toward a planned outburst-If a decision to move the embassy is made, Fatah will try to lead the demonstrations on the ground in order to prevent its rival Hamas from “stealing the show.”But to a great extent Israel’s concern should not be a spontaneous eruption on the ground, but rather an organized outburst, since the PA and Fatah – together with Arab states like Jordan and Saudi Arabia – have already outlined a clear plan of resistance. Thus, in order to prevent mass protests and an outbreak of violence, Israel will need the assistance of the PA and Jordan, although it is doubtful they will be forthcoming in offering their help. Israel will be dependent to a great extent on the goodwill of the PA to preserve the prevailing quiet, even though the PA will have little interest in doing so in light of the particularly dramatic and troublesome manner in which Palestinians will interpret an embassy move.Still, there were some voices among the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah that interpreted the announcement from the White House that more time is needed to implement the decision as an indication that Washington does not want move forward too quickly with the move. They perceive Trump’s ostensible hesitance as the result of Israel’s strong push to follow through with it.In any case, the coming months are expected to be particularly eventful in regards to an embassy move. An Arab League summit is scheduled to take place in March in Amman, and as host, Jordan is expected to lead a hawkish stance against it.Prior to the summit, a meeting between the Jordanian king and Trump is expected to take place, during which Abdullah will likely try and convince the US president to not push forward with the move.A month later, at the end of April, former US president Barack Obama’s waiver of the Jerusalem Embassy Act – a 1995 law that mandated the US embassy be moved to Jerusalem — will expire, as did every previous six-month waiver of his predecessors.Owing to Trump’s unpredictable nature, no one is sure whether he will stick with precedent and sign the waiver or not. However, one thing is certain: until then, the pressure will continue to build.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
Opposition MKs, Bennett urge release of damning Gaza war report-Lapid, Herzog say state comptroller must make full assessment available for sake of families of soldiers who died-By Marissa Newman January 23, 2017, 6:47 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
Education Minister Naftali Bennett and opposition lawmakers on Monday pressed the government to make public a damning state comptroller report that is said to fiercely criticize the high-level security cabinet’s conduct during the 2014 Gaza war with Hamas.A Knesset State Control subcommittee was expected to debate and vote on Tuesday on whether to release the report in full. According to Channel 2, the panel has a majority to unseal the report after Likud MK David Bitan, who is also coalition chair, announced he would support such a move. The revised draft of State Comptroller Yosef Shapira’s report is said to intensify its criticism of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Moshe Ya’alon while toning down its disapproval of the conduct of the Israel Defense Forces, according to leaks to Israeli media.Shapira’s report found that despite Netanyahu’s claims to the contrary, the prime minister and Ya’alon did not properly inform the high-level security cabinet of the extent of the tunnel threat, Channel 2 said in November. The cabinet was only notified of the dangers one week before the start of the war, after then-economy minister Naftali Bennett presented the ministers with the information and offered possible solutions to disarm the underground network, the report said, according to Channel 2.Netanyahu has repeatedly denied that cabinet members were not apprised of the threats but two of his chief political rivals, Bennett and Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid, both of whom were cabinet members during the war, have repeatedly claimed that the cabinet was not properly updated on the issues. Both Lapid and Bennett on Monday urged lawmakers to release the full report.“We must not suppress the report on Protective Edge or use it to see heads roll,” but rather learn from it, said Bennett at the weekly Jewish Home faction meeting.“Only the disclosure of the non-confidential elements and learning its details will allow us to move forward,” said Bennett. “I was there; we have what to improve upon.”Yesh Atid leader Lapid said the government must make the report public for the sake of the bereaved Israeli families of soldiers killed in the 50-day conflict.“They need to release the report for the families of the fallen, they deserve to know what happened there. There’s no room for politics when you are talking about the security of soldiers and well-being of residents of Gaza-area communities,” he said.Lapid accused Netanyahu of attempting to bury the report for political reasons.“The Prime Minister’s Office fears this report, because serious failures emerge from it,” he said. “Because the report reveals that the account the public received [on the war] was not the true account.”Also joining the chorus was opposition leader Isaac Herzog.“The Israeli public, and especially families who lost loved ones, deserve to know how their leaders acted when they sent their sons into battle, and how discussions on new strategic threats, chief among them the tunnels, were carried out,” he said at the start of the weekly Zionist Union meeting. In an unusual move, Netanyahu requested an additional meeting with the state comptroller in October in order to present him with information that would show the cabinet was informed. But the leaks from the revised draft two months ago appeared to indicate that Shapira remained unconvinced by Netanyahu’s testimony.Channel 2 also reported in November that the latest version of the report softened its criticism of the Israel Defense Forces, as the army’s shortcomings are no longer described as “a grave failing.”A number of tunnels were used by Hamas fighters to infiltrate Israel and carry out deadly attacks on troops during the Gaza Strip conflict in the summer of 2014. During that campaign, dubbed in Israel “Operation Protective Edge,” Israeli forces discovered and destroyed at least 34 tunnels, many of them leading into Israeli territory.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
Trump’s inauguration rabbi targeted by anti-Semitic messages-Marvin Hier’s blessing at new president’s swearing-in met by wave of online posts featuring Nazi imagery, racist abuse-By Times of Israel staff January 22, 2017, 12:56 am
Rabbi Marvin Hier, one of the religious leaders who offered a prayer at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Friday, was met with a wave of anti-Semitic comments on social media. In his 2-minute blessing, Hier prayed: “Eternal God, bless President Donald J. Trump and America, our great nation…[and] all of our allies around the world who share our beliefs,” and cited a Psalm remembering Zion and Jerusalem.Heir faced criticism for his participation from some in the Jewish community who said Trump’s presidential campaign targeted minorities and at times invoked tropes that many, including the Anti-Defamation League, considered anti-Semitic.The rabbi’s own Simon Wiesenthal Center, in a 2016 report on global anti-Semitism, noted that a prominent group of neo-Nazis had embraced Trump and that Jewish journalists critical of the Republican presidential candidate were frequently targeted with anti-Semitic tweets.MY EARS ARE BEING RAPED BY JEW INCANTATIONS OMG PUSH THIS RABBI WITCH OFF THE STAGE— Cassandra (@CasstasticX) January 20, 2017-After Hier delivered the prayer on Friday afternoon, the 77-year-old rabbi became the target of hundreds of racist and anti-Semitic messages from US viewers watching the inaugural events online. The messages — some from social media accounts prominently affiliated with white supremacist movements — called to “light the Jew on fire,” or claimed “the Jew put a spell on us,” while others made references to Hitler and gas chambers. What the hell is some Jew rabbi doing at the inauguration?! They are the enemies of America !— White Lives Matter (@darwinsvaxcine) January 20, 2017-Hier was among six faith leaders to accept the invitation to participate in the inauguration. The others included Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York, and Franklin Graham, a prominent Christian evangelist.Ahead of the ceremony, Hier said he believed that “all of us should pray for [Trump’s] great success, because his great success means our great success.”He added that accepted the invitation from the Trump team because “it was the menschlichkeit thing to do,” using the Yiddish word meaning honorable, “and I am proud to do it.”Hier said his participation would be in line with previous blessings he offered to a bipartisan array of presidents and presidential candidates over the past three decades, though never as part of inaugural festivities. He is also a longtime family friend of Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.Hier is believed to be the first rabbi to speak at a presidential inauguration since 1985.
US nonprofit to sue Trump over foreign payments-CREW ethics watchdog says president violating constitution’s emoluments clause by accepting profits from overseas properties-By AFP January 23, 2017, 5:54 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
WASHINGTON — A Washington group of lawyers and researchers plans to file a federal lawsuit against Donald Trump Monday, alleging that the US president is violating a constitutional ban on accepting payments from foreign governments. In a statement released Sunday the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) said the newly sworn-in Trump was in violation of the Constitution because his business properties abroad operate partly based on goodwill from foreign governments and regulators. The US Constitution states that no federal official can receive a gift or “emolument” from a foreign government.“We did not want to get to this point,” CREW executive director Noah Bookbinder said in the statement. “It was our hope that President Trump would take the necessary steps to avoid violating the Constitution before he took office.”“We were forced to take legal action.”The group cited payments from guests at his hotels and golf courses and space leased in his properties by foreign governments as examples of “getting cash and favors.”The CREW nonprofit will not seek monetary damages but intends to file the suit in a Manhattan federal court when it opens Monday morning.“President Trump has made his slogan ‘America First,'” Bookbinder said.“So you would think he would want to strictly follow the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause, since it was written to ensure our government officials are thinking of Americans first, and not foreign governments.”Trump’s two eldest sons Eric and Donald Trump Jr. are officially staying in New York and running the Trump Organization in their father’s absence. The new president stopped short of making a full divestment prior to taking office, earning a swift rebuke from an ethics watchdog and Democratic Party opponents.

18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
REVELATION 19:17-18
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;(AGAINST ALL NATIONS ARMIES THAT COME AGAINST JERUSALEM AND ISRAEL)
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
EZEKIEL 38:1-7
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:TOBOLSK)
4 And I (GOD) will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(AFRICAN MUSLIMS,SUDAN,TUNESIA ETC)

2 And I will turn thee back,(RUSSIA-ARAB MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS) and leave but the sixth part of thee,(5/6TH OR 300 MILLION DEAD RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS I BELIEVE) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR ATOMIC BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.
