Surviving Dallas officer recounts trying to save colleagues-[The Canadian Press]-Christine Armario, The Associated Press-JULY 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

DALLAS - Officer Jorge Barrientos never saw the gunman. The assailant announced himself with a loud, single burst of fire from a rifle, just as Barrientos and his colleagues from the Fox Trot Unit of the Dallas Police Department were finishing directing traffic away from protesters at a march downtown. The shot hit Officer Michael Krol, who stood just a few feet away from Barrientos. Krol screamed and fell to the ground. Then the bullets began to fly. They whizzed to the left and right, over his head and seemingly from every direction. Barrientos, 28, dropped to the ground, trying to make his way toward Krol and get cover. Not far away, two other officers from his unit lay shot and bleeding. What followed were long, desperate moments to try and save his fellow officers. Ultimately, three men from his unit were among the five officers killed in Thursday's attack, which also left at least nine officers and two civilians wounded."These were my brothers," Barrientos said Sunday as he recovered at home from a bullet wound to his left hand, which was wrapped in a bundle of gauze. "I'm frustrated because I couldn't do more."Barrientos, a four-year member of the Dallas Police Department, had been working with his colleagues in the Fox Trot Unit for the last six months. They responded to all sorts of 911 calls, growing close during long, tiring days in a busy city department. The march against police brutality had been entirely routine. The Fox Trot Unit was doing what Barrientos said they always do: taking care of the community. Officer Patrick Zamarripa, 32, took a homeless man to a nearby 7-Eleven to buy him food, Barrientos said. By around 9 p.m. the crowd was beginning to disperse. The men were expected to be discharged from their posts at an intersection any minute and go home to their families. That was not to be."Get down! Get down!" an officer cried as the first shots rang out.Barrientos crawled for cover, though he didn't know exactly where to hide."He knew what he was doing," Barrientos said of the gunman, later identified as Micah Johnson, a black Army veteran who told police he wanted to kill white officers. Johnson was killed with a bomb delivered by remote-controlled robot after a standoff."He knew where he was firing from. He ambushed us in a manner that he didn't want us to see where he was," Barrientos said. When the shooting appeared to begin dying down, Barrientos and his colleagues began loading the fallen officers into patrol cars to rush them to the hospital. In the process, Barrientos was shot in the hand and struck by shrapnel in his chest. He wrapped his hand in a bandanna and kept working."You don't have time to concentrate on being scared," he said. "I have a job to do. They're part of my job at that point. To save them."One of the officers Barrientos tried to save had a bullet wound to his chest. In a desperate bid to try and prevent the officer's lung from collapsing, Barrientos grabbed the plastic from a box of cigarettes he keeps in his pocket and tried to use it to create a seal and stop the bleeding. The officer was taken to the hospital, where he died, Barrientos said.In all, the three men from his unit died — Krol, Zamarripa and Lorne Ahrens, a father of two married to a fellow officer.Three days after the attack, Barrientos said he is not angry at the gunman, but angry at the situation. With Dallas now an epicenter for the nation's tensions over race, Barrientos said he wants people to know all the good that existed in the officers who died."God saved me that day," he said. "He had a plan for me to survive. Maybe it's to help spread what we do, how much love we actually have for people.""But," he said, sighing deeply, "it's hard."

Dallas gunman learned tactics at Texas self-defence school-[thecanadianpress.com]-July 10, 2016-YAHOONEWS

DALLAS - The gunman who killed five police officers at a protest march had practiced military-style drills in his yard and trained at a private self-defence school that teaches special tactics, including "shooting on the move," a manoeuvr in which an attacker fires and changes position before firing again.Micah Johnson, an Army veteran, received instruction at the Academy of Combative Warrior Arts in the Dallas suburb of Richardson about two years ago, said the school's founder and chief instructor, Justin J. Everman.Everman's statement was corroborated by a police report from May 8, 2015, when someone at a business a short distance away called in a report of several suspicious people in a parked SUV.The investigating officer closed the case just minutes after arriving at a strip mall. While there, the officer spoke to Johnson, who said he "had just gotten out of a class at a nearby self-defence school."Johnson told the officer he was "waiting for his dad to arrive" and pick up his brother. No one else was apparently questioned. On Friday, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings described Johnson as "a mobile shooter" who had written manifestos on how to "shoot and move."Authorities have said the 25-year-old gunman kept a journal of combat tactics and had amassed a personal arsenal at his home, including bomb-making materials, rifles and ammunition. The academy website refers to one of its courses as a "tactical applications program," or TAP."Reality is highly dynamic, you will be drawing your firearm, moving, shooting on the move, fixing malfunctions, etc. all under high levels of stress," the website says. "Most people never get to train these skills as they are not typically allowed on the static gun range."The TAP training includes "shooting from different positions," ''drawing under stress" and "drawing from concealment." Everman declined to specify which classes Johnson took."I don't know anything about Micah. I'm sorry. He's gone. He's old to us. I have thousands of people," Everman told The Associated Press on Saturday. The two men, however, were friendly and talked in Facebook conversations in August 2014. Everman knew Johnson had been out of the country. Army officials said he had been deployed in Afghanistan around that time.Everman suggested that Johnson "let me know when you make it down this way.""Will be great to get you back in the academy," Everman said, according to a comment thread saved by the AP before Johnson's Facebook profile was taken down."I concur!" Johnson replied.More recently, a neighbour reported to investigators that Johnson had been seen practicing some sort of military drill in his backyard in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, said Clay Jenkins, the Dallas County judge, the county's most senior elected official.Tensions were still high Saturday in Dallas, where 20 square blocks of downtown remained cordoned off as a crime scene. The police department tightened security Saturday evening after receiving an anonymous threat.Earlier in the day, President Barack Obama called Johnson a "demented individual" who does not represent black Americans any more than a white man accused of killing blacks at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, represents whites."So we cannot let the actions of a few define all of us," Obama said from Warsaw, Poland, where he attended a NATO summit. The president planned to visit Dallas in a few days and to convene a White House meeting next week with police officers and community and civil rights activists. It was the third time in as many days that Obama has spoken about the fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota that were immediately followed by the sniper attack in Dallas.Johnson, who donned a protective vest and used a military-style semi-automatic rifle, was killed by a robot-delivered bomb after the Thursday night shootings, which marked the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. In all, 12 officers were shot just a few blocks from where President John F. Kennedy was slain in 1963.Johnson was a private first class with a specialty in carpentry and masonry. He served in the Army Reserve for six years starting in 2009 and did one tour in Afghanistan from November 2013 to July 2014, the military said. The attack began Thursday evening while hundreds of people were gathered to protest the police killings of Philando Castile, who was fatally shot near St. Paul, Minnesota, and Alton Sterling, who was shot in Louisiana after being pinned to the pavement by two white officers.Video showed protesters marching along a downtown street about half a mile from City Hall when shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover.Marcus Carter, 33, was in the area when people started running toward him, yelling about gunshots. Carter said the first shot sounded like a firecracker. But then they proceeded in quick succession, with brief pauses between spurts of gunfire."It was breaks in the fire," he said. "It was a single shot and then after that single shot, it was a brief pause," followed by many shots in quick succession. After shooting at the Dallas officers, Johnson tried to take refuge in a parking garage and exchanged gunfire with police, authorities said.During negotiations, he said he wanted to exterminate whites, "especially white officers," the police chief said.___Associated Press writers Nomaan Merchant and Jamie Stengle in Dallas, and Hannah Cushman in Chicago contributed to this report.

UPDATE-JULY 12,2016-12:01AM
WELL YESTERDAY IN MICHIGAN ANOTHER 3 OFFICERS WERE SHOT. AT A COURT HOUSE ON THE 3RD FLOOR-EITHER A CRIMINAL OR POLICE HATER. GRABBED A GUN OFF A SECURITY OFFICER. SHOT HIM ANOTHER SECURITY OFFICER AND A POLICE OFFICER. AND 2 OR 3 CIVILIANS. THE CRIMINAL WAS SHOT AND KILLED OUTSIDE THE COURTHOUSE I BELIEVE. PLUS THE 21 OFFICERS INJURED OVER THE WEEKEND FROM THAT SO CALLED PEACE-LOVE-JOY-UTOPIA JUSTICE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT. THEN AT LEAST 4 OR 5 OTHER POLICE WERE SHOT AND INJURED IN SEPARATE PLACES AROUND AMERICA ALSO. BUT I WANNA TALK ABOUT THIS CASTILE SHOOTING  IN MINNESOTA FOR A MINUTE. WHY DID THE GIRLFRIEND OF CASTILE REGRET GOING TO THE PLACE WERE HER HUSBAND WAS SHOT IN THE ARM. AND AS WELL SHE ADMITTED THERE WAS MARIJUANA IN THEIR CAR. BUT WHY WOULD SHE REGRET BEING IN THE AREA WERE THEY WERE STOPPED. COULD IT POSSIBLY BE THAT CASTILE AND HIS GIRL FRIEND BOUGHT THE MARIJUANA SHE ADMITTED THEY HAD IN THE CAR-IN THE AREA. AND THE POLICE WERE WATCHING THEM GO INTO A HOUSE IN THE AREA. AND POSSIBLY HAD AN IDEA THEY BOUGHT DOPE IN THE AREA. AND THOUGHT THEY BETTER PULL HIM OVER AND SEE IF THEY DID BUY DOPE IN THE AREA. AND SINCE THIS WAS THE 53RD TIME CASTILE WAS STOPPED SINCE 2003. THERES SOME REASON THE POLICE STOPPED HIM THAT MANY TIMES IN 13 YEARS. BUT HIS GIRLFRIEND ON THE VIDEO SAYS. HE NEVER HAD A RECORD OR WAS CHARGED. BUT HE GOT SOME TICKETS OF SOME KIND. BUT SHE FAILED TO MENTION THAT. I STILL FIND IT FISHY WHY SHE REGRETS BEING IN THE AREA THEY WERE. AND NOTICE SHE JUST TAPED THE VIDEO AFTER HE WAS SHOT. SO THERES NO RECORD OF WHAT SHE CLAIMS HER BOY FRIEND SAID AND DONE BEFORE THE TAPE STARTED ROLLING. THERES SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE ABOUT HER TAKE ON THE SHOOTING. I JUST CAN'T GET IT OUTTA MY HEAD WHY WHEN SHE PHONED INTO THE CHURCH. SHE REGRETTED FOR BEING IN THAT AREA. WE HAVE NOT HEARD THE LAST OF THIS CASE YET-I PREDICT. MAYBE ITS ANOTHER FREDDIE GRAY CASE TO NAIL INNOCENT OFFICERS. AND WHY WOULD THE GIRL FRIEND GO ALL OVER THE MEDIA JUST AFTER IT HAPPENED-INSTEAD OF GRIEVING AND GETTING HIS FUNERAL SET UP. I NEVER SEEN THE LOUISIANA SHOOTING. BUT THERE WAS PROBABLY A REASON HE WAS SHOT AND KILLED ALSO. BUT ALL I KNOW THE MEDIA IS PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO THE SUCK UP BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT. THEN ALL THE INNOCENT POLICE OFFICERS THAT WERE KILLED AND INJURED IN THE LAST WEEK. AT LEAST 6 OR 7 OFFICERS KILLED IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS. AND AT LEAST 25 OR 26 INJURED.ALL IN THE LAST WEEK. BUT THE MEDIA MOSTLY SUCK HOLE UP TO THE FAKE PEACE-LOVE-JOY-UTOPIA BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT. WHEN THE MEDIA SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON ALL LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT. THEN THEY COULD SAY THEIR A PEACE-LOVE-JOY-UTOPIA PEACE UNITY-JUSTICE MOVEMENT. IF THE POLICE OFFICERS WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PROTECT THE BLACK LIVES PROTEST IN TEXAS. THEY WOULD STILL BE ALIVE. SO I AM CLEARLY BLAMING THE BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTESTERS-PEACEFUL OR NOT-FOR THE 5 INNOCENT OFFICERS DYING AND 12 SHOT AND INJURED TOTAL.

Protests of police killings: Dozens of arrests in Louisiana-[The Canadian Press]-Michael Kunzelman And Rebecca Santana, The Associated Press-July 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

BATON ROUGE, La. - Officers stared down hundreds protesting against police killings near a ramp leading to an interstate in Louisiana's capital Sunday night before another squad in riot gear arrived and authorities took dozens into custody.Earlier Sunday, some 2,000 people rallied outside the Capitol building to protest police killings of black people, State Police Maj. Doug Cain said."They didn't have any problems out there. They seemed to be very organized and peaceful," Cain said. But by nightfall, a few hundred people aimed for an on-ramp of Interstate 110, trying a tactic protesters were using over the weekend in multiple cities. And after a lengthy standoff, more police in full riot gear moved in, pinning some of the protesters as others fled. Some 30 to 40 people were taken into custody for trying to block a highway, sheriff's spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said. That could push Baton Rouge's weekend arrest total above 160, with just one reported injury to a police officer.Gov. John Bel Edwards said he was "very proud" of the Louisiana law enforcement response to the protests that have followed the fatal shooting of a black man by white police officers in the city.Flanked by law enforcement leaders, Edwards said he doesn't believe officers have been overly aggressive by using riot gear to push protesters off a highway."The police tactics in response have been very moderate. I'm very proud of that," said the Democratic governor, who comes from a family of sheriffs.Tensions between black citizens and police have risen palpably after police shootings of African-American men in Minnesota and Louisiana and the gunning down of five white police officers by a black suspect in Dallas in apparent retaliation.Activists said they were dismayed by the police response."I remain disappointed in the Baton Rouge police, who continue to provoke protesters for peacefully protesting. There's a lot of work to be done, with this police department specifically," said DeRay Mckesson, a prominent Black Lives Matter activist. The Baton Rouge police spokesman, Sgt. Don Coppola, blamed some violence and the large number of arrests on outside agitators. One officer lost teeth to a projectile thrown outside police headquarters, and police also confiscated three rifles, three shotguns and two pistols during that protest, he wrote in an email."It appears the protest at Baton Rouge Police Headquarters have become more violent as out of town protesters are arriving," he said. But most of those detained live in Louisiana and faced a single charge of obstructing a highway, Hicks told The Associated Press. The tumult reached well beyond Louisiana. In Minnesota, authorities said 21 law enforcement officers were hurt and about 100 people were arrested late Saturday and early Sunday during clashes in the state capital over the police killing of Philando Castile. There was very little violence by comparison in Baton Rouge."I can assure everyone we are hearing the protesters," the governor said. "We are listening to their voices. But I'm especially gratified that our citizens here in Louisiana, to a very large degree, have decided to protest in a constructive and peaceful manner."Edwards said hundreds have marched around the city, with only one injury to an officer and mostly misdemeanour arrests. Protesting peacefully is the best way to honour those killed, he said, adding that authorities won't allow people "to incite hate and violence.""I want to be clear that will not be tolerated. We don't operate like that in Louisiana," he said. The list of those arrested released by the sheriff's office included two homeless people, and 18 are from out of state. The vast majority of the Louisiana residents were from the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas.Demonstrations also occurred Saturday, beginning near the convenience store where 37-year-old Alton Sterling was killed by police. The protests then fanned out through the state capitol.Over the weekend, members of the New Black Panther Party for Self Defence called for the arrest and indictment of the officers involved in Sterling's death, shouting "Black Power" and raising their fists. The U.S. Justice Department has launched a civil rights investigation."These are human rights violations," Krystal Muhammad shouted to the crowd at the convenience store. "They are not operating as human beings. They are being predators on our communities across America."___AP reporter Janet McConnaughey contributed from New Orleans.

Trudeau won't say if Canada to keep sending troops to Ukraine to train military-[The Canadian Press]-Lee Berthiaume, The Canadian Press-July 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

KYIV, Ukraine - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is standing by Ukraine in its struggle against Russia, but he won't be pinned down on whether it will continue supplying troops to train Ukraine's military.During a joint news conference Monday in Kyiv to mark the signing of a Canada-Ukraine free trade deal, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said he has asked for 200 Canadian military trainers to remain in the country past March 2017.That's when the current mission near the western city of Lviv is set to expire.Canada will co-ordinate with its allies in supporting Ukraine, said Trudeau, who noted that the training mission is giving "significant support" to the Ukrainian military as it seeks to defend and reclaim territory lost to rebels in the east."We are right now focused on the training mission that is going so well for both Canadians and especially for the Ukrainian military," he said."As the situation evolves, we will continue to monitor and look at the best way we can continue to support and help Ukraine and we will do so in the spirit of collaboration and friendship that has always existed between Canada and Ukraine."Meanwhile, both Trudeau and Poroshenko slammed Russia for not living up to its commitments to a peace deal intended to bring an end to fighting in eastern Ukraine. Some European allies have grown impatient that Ukraine is not doing enough to implement its commitments in the Minsk peace agreement with the rebels and Russia, with warnings they may not renew sanctions against the latter.Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine two years ago, and has supported separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine."It is obvious that Ukraine has made some extremely important and difficult steps in Parliament and in their institutions to live up to their responsibilities on Minsk. And it's also quite clear that on the security side of the Minsk implementation, Russia has not been a positive partner," Trudeau said."They have not been moving responsibly or appropriately on things like ceasefires or international observers, and we are very hopeful that continued international unity and clarity around the expectations that we advance with Minsk are going to continue to put the necessary pressure on Russia to follow the process and act on the security concerns."For his part, Poroshenko said Ukraine has fulfilled 95 per cent of its political obligations and all of its security requirements under the agreement."With that situation, it is vitally important for us that Russia meet the security criteria for launching the political process. This is Russia who should make a disengagement. This is Russia who should remove the heavy artillery, weapons, multi-rocket launch systems, tanks, from their front lines."The free trade deal signed Monday between Canada and Ukraine isn't the biggest for either country, but it is seen as politically important given Ukraine’s efforts to escape from Russia’s influence.Ukrainian officials are also hoping it will spark an influx of Canadian investment for their country’s struggling economy.Later Monday, Trudeau is scheduled to visit the Maidan, Ukraine's independence square, where popular protests in early 2014 forced the previous pro-Russian president from power and ushered in what Ukrainians hope is a new era. More than 100 people were killed in clashes between police and demonstrators.Earlier, Trudeau and his oldest son Xavier paid tribute to the victims of mass atrocities in Ukraine, visiting several memorials dedicated to Ukrainians who were killed by the Nazis and Soviets.Remembrance has emerged as key feature during Trudeau’s trip to Eastern Europe, which included attending the NATO leaders’ summit in Warsaw before visiting the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on Sunday.— Follow @leeberthiaume on Twitter

Kashmir seethes as 25 killed in clashes with Indian forces-[The Canadian Press]-Aijaz Hussain, The Associated Press-July 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

SRINAGAR, India - Indian authorities struggled to contain street protests Monday by Kashmiris defying patrols and a stringent curfew after at least 25 people died in clashes that followed the killing of a top rebel leader.Paramilitary troops and police in riot gear patrolled villages and towns in the Himalayan region. Most shops were shuttered, businesses were closed, and cellphone and mobile internet services were suspended in parts of the region. But crowds ignored the clampdown and clashed with government troops in parts of the main city of Srinagar and several other places in the region. At least two teenagers injured in the clashes died in a hospital on Monday, said a police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to reporters. The protests erupted Saturday, a day after Indian troops killed Burhan Wani, the young leader of Kashmir's largest rebel group, Hizbul Mujahideen, which has been fighting since the 1990s against Indian rule. Wani, in his early 20s, had become the iconic face of Kashmir's militancy, using social media to rally supporters and reach out to other youths like him who had grown up while hundreds of thousands of Indian armed forces have been deployed across the region.Police Inspector-General Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani described Wani's killing as the "biggest success against militants" in recent years.Pakistan's foreign secretary expressed its concerns over the killings of Wani and civilian protesters to Indian authorities Monday evening. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry conveyed to Indian High Commissioner Gautam Bambawale that the use of force against peaceful protesters was a human rights violation and that a fair inquiry should be made into the killings, according to the secretary's statement.Pakistan and India each administer part of Kashmir but claim the region entirely. In the portion controlled by India, opposition to India is strong. Many in the region of 12 million people resent the deployment of hundreds of thousands of Indian troops and openly voice support for the rebels fighting for independence or a merger with neighbouring Pakistan. As news of Wani's death spread among Kashmiris, spontaneous protests grew and crowds of youths threw rocks at Indian police and paramilitary soldiers, shouting "Go India, go back!" Police said protesters attacked them and burned scores of police and paramilitary posts and some homes of pro-India politicians. At least 24 civilians and one policeman have died from wounds sustained in clashes since Saturday, as law enforcement officers used live ammunition, pellet guns and tear gas to try to break up the protests. Most of those killed were teens and men younger than 26 from southern Kashmir, police said. In addition, more than 150 civilians and 100 government troops have been injured. At least 10 of the injured civilians were in serious condition. In several neighbourhoods in Srinagar, activists painted graffiti on iron shutters of shops and walls, deploring India and eulogizing Wani. Messages that they wrote included "Burhan our hero" and "Burhan still in our hearts."Since the 1990s, more than 68,000 people have been killed in Kashmir's uprising against Indian rule and the subsequent Indian military crackdown.Amid the protests, Indian officials suspended an annual Hindu pilgrimage to a mountain cave that draws about half a million people each year. Authorities also postponed school and college examinations and suspended rail services.___Follow Aijaz Hussain: www.twitter.com/hussain_aijaz

Flash flooding triggers emergency declaration in Saskatchewan city-[The Canadian Press]-The Canadian Press-July 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

ESTEVAN, Sask. - A state of emergency has been declared in Estevan, Sask., after the southeastern city was hit by at least 130 millimetres of rain in just over two hours. The emergency was declared around 4:00 p.m. Sunday, soon after streets and basements were hit by flash flooding. There were concerns that some parts of the city of more than 11,000 would have to be evacuated."The storm sewers weren't able to take that volume of rain," said Estevan police Sgt. Kevin Reed."And then traffic driving around, having looks, creating situations where it just caused havoc to some of the residents."The power was out in some areas overnight and drivers were being told to stay off flooded roads. Two streets that are secondary routes in Estevan were still flooded as of Monday morning. Another street is closed due to a washout, but the main highways in and around the community were not affected.Further details on the extent of the flood were expected later Monday-Environment Canada says more heavy rain — possibly as much as 100 millimetres — is expected over parts of southern Saskatchewan during the next three days. The agency has previously issued a special weather statement."In these types of situations it's always a strain on emergency services and our public works," said Reed. "It's just a matter of hoping that things clear up quickly so the strain can be released." (CJME, The Canadian Press)

Lives are going to be shortened:' Fort McMurray firefighters fear for health-[The Canadian Press]-Chris Purdy, The Canadian Press-July 11, 2016-YAHOONEWS

Many Fort McMurray firefighters, unable to wear their usual air masks while battling a giant wildfire that attacked the northern Alberta city, are being screened for health problems because they spent several days breathing in hazardous smoke. Some of the 180 crew have developed a persistent cough, says firefighter Nick Waddington, president of the Fort McMurray branch of the International Association of Fire Fighters. Results of lung and blood tests will be private. But Waddington predicts the firefighters will need ongoing support and possible treatment for serious illnesses over the next 10 to 20 years."Realistically, a lot of our guys, their lives are going to be shortened because of this incident," Waddington says bluntly. "When you compound that with everything that we're going to have in our careers, we're definitely going to be in a high risk."The fire spread into the oilsands capital on May 3 and forced more than 80,000 people to leave. It destroyed roughly 2,400 homes and other buildings — about one-tenth of the city. Firefighters were credited with saving the rest of the community.Municipal crews were assisted in the following days by firefighters from other communities and wildland firefighters from across Canada and other countries — about 2,200 in all.But the hometown crew was there first, working around the clock, when the forest fire morphed into an urban blaze and moved from timber to buildings with toxins in vinyl siding, treated lumber and furniture.Firefighters "would have been out there for long periods of time sucking in the smoke," says Fort McMurray fire Chief Darby Allen. He explains that municipal firefighters normally wear a self-contained breathing apparatus. The air in the tanks might last up to an hour — enough time for going into a single house fire, but not for a marathon shift fighting flames consuming hundreds of homes."We didn't have time to get back to the hall to charge (the tanks)."Forest crews sometimes wear particulate filter masks. Waddington says those P100 masks aren't stocked in large numbers at municipal fire stations. Pallets of them arrived a few days after the fire raced into the city. But wearing such masks is a "double-edge sword," Waddington says. The filters make it harder to breathe and can get plugged. And the half-masks can cause safety glasses and visors to fog, says Jamie Coutts, fire chief of Slave Lake, Alta."How do you wear that for six days?" he says.Coutts and 13 Slave Lake firefighters helped during the initial days of the Fort McMurray fire and he says he didn't get a filter mask.He also didn't have one during a forest fire that spread into his town in 2011 and destroyed about 400 buildings. In the months after that fire, members of the Slave Lake crew developed chest infections and nose and throat problems, Coutts says. He was diagnosed with asthma and later lung sarcoidosis, although he says the disease can't be directly linked to the fire. After Coutts got home from Fort McMurray, he was coughing and wheezing again and couldn't run up the stairs, he says."I'm a firefighter. I've got a better-than-average chance of dying of cancer. It is what it is."Coutts says experts need to come up with a better way to protect crews when forest fires move into urban area."They're going to have to make better particulate masks."Peter Krich, president of the Alberta Fire Chiefs Association, says his group may look at whether filter masks should be stocked in communities in forested areas. The Fort McMurray fire was unusually large, Krich points out. "You're not just fighting one fire. You're fighting two fires, three, four, five ... It was going on and on and you could never stop."The challenge, he says, is that firefighters will do whatever it takes without thinking of their health."We have to learn," he says. "Hopefully we can ... be more prepared or help each other better in the event of something of this nature happening ever again."— With files from Lauren Krugel

Forest fire burning 10 km from Snare Hydro System grows to 1,500 hectares-[CBC]-July 10, 2016-YAHOONEWS

A massive forest fire continues to burn about 65 kilometres north of Behchoko and just 10 kilometres from the facility that powers Yellowknife — and it's grown now to 1,500-hectares.The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) says three fire crews as well as heavy equipment are in the area protecting the Snare Hydro System. The fire has grown about 600 hectares in 48 hours. It's one of 29 forest fires in the territory that are considered "out of control."Another that was reported four days ago has grown to about 300 hectares. ENR says it's near N'Dulee Crossing and is burning towards the Mackenzie River, not the highway. The fire danger continues to be "high" for most of the territory, including in the Inuvik Region. The first two fires of the season for that region began in the last 24 hours. One is burning 85 kilometres from Tsiigehtchic and the other is about 34 kilometres from Inuvik.Crews in the Sahtu Region are battling a forest fire that's only 22 kilometres away from Norman Wells.ENR officials say it's east of the community on Discovery Ridge. Officials aren't saying how large the fire is.Crews are in the area working on a burn line in order to contain the fire, and a group of aircraft are heading over to the area to help monitor it.There's one other fire in the Sahtu Region, 149 km from Deline. It's being monitored as well.Fire officials say as of right now, people in the region are not at risk.Other notable fires include:- One located about 30 kilometres from Yellowknife and near Bluefish Dam is under control. - Fire burning 16 kilometres from Lutsel K'e is now under control and is being mopped up. - Two fires located 21 and eight kilometres respectively from Fort Liard; crews are starting to handle.- One burning on an island about 87 kilometres from Fort Simpson, which was started by an abandoned campfire.

Quarantine zone set up after bird flu detected in southern Ontario-[The Canadian Press]-July 10, 2016-YAHOONEWS

OTTAWA - Food safety officials have established the parameters of a quarantine zone around an Ontario duck farm where a case of bird flu was detected last week. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the quarantine zone covering a three-kilometre radius has been placed around the farm near St. Catharines.Last week, the agency announced about 14,000 ducks at the commercial farm would be destroyed because of the H5N2 avian influenza.A spokesman for the agency said in an email Sunday that a "humane depopulation of birds on the infected premise" had been completed. The agency says bird flu hasn't been detected anywhere else in the quarantine zone, but officials say they're monitoring for any spread of the disease.Avian flu doesn't pose a risk to food safety when poultry products are properly handled and cooked.Bird flu rarely poses a risk to people who don't have constant contact with infected birds.A highly pathogenic subtype of the same virus caused outbreaks in Ontario and British Columbia last year. Canada had previously been free of notifiable avian influenza since last October.

Egypt said offering to host direct Netanyahu-Abbas talks-As Cairo FM makes rare visit to Israel, Palestinian officials say Sissi’s proposed tripartite summit will seek to deescalate regional tensions-By Tamar Pileggi July 11, 2016, 5:16 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has reportedly offered to host direct talks between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, as part of Cairo’s fresh efforts to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The tripartite summit, which would also be attended by senior officials from Jordan and Egypt, would seek to engage in confidence-building measures in an effort to calm the 10-month surge in violence in the West Bank, Palestinian officials told both the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper and Israel’s Haaretz daily. The reports comes on the heels of Sunday’s rare visit to Israel by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who met with Netanyahu in Jerusalem in an apparent effort to further Sissi’s bid for an Israeli-Palestinian peace accord.Shoukry’s visit to Israel was the first by an Egyptian foreign minister since 2007. Recently, Israel has emerged as a discreet ally of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who has positioned himself as a central player in jump-starting the stalemated peace process. The Shoukry visit came amid chatter over the renewal of an Arab peace initiative and as Israel’s military recently saluted “unprecedented” intelligence cooperation with Egypt to combat the Islamic State group.Speaking to journalists alongside Netanyahu before their meeting on Sunday, Shoukry said this was a “crucial and challenging juncture for the Middle East.” Cairo, he added, is dedicated to “a just and comprehensive peace between the Israeli and Palestinian people.”“The goal we aim to achieve through negotiations between the two parties is one that is based on justice, legitimate rights and mutual willingness to coexist peacefully in two neighboring independent states in peace and security,” he said.“Egypt remains ready to assist in achieving this goal,” he said, stressing that “such a momentous achievement will have a far-reaching, dramatic and positive impact on the overall conditions in the Middle East. The current state of affairs is, unfortunately, neither stable nor sustainable.”Shoukry, who visited Abbas in the West Bank last month, urged leaders from both sides to resume negotiations.According to Israel’s Channel 2 television, Shoukry’s surprise visit was also aimed at arranging a first meeting between Netanyahu and Sissi in Egypt in the coming months. The TV report said Shoukry’s first visit to Israel was coordinated between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, whose Arab Peace Initiative is backed by Sissi and much of the Arab world, and would form the basis of any regional peace effort. Netanyahu has rejected the initiative in its current form, but said in late May that it “contains positive elements that could help revive constructive negotiations with the Palestinians.”Raphael Ahren contributed to this report.

Egypt’s new rapport with Israel brings high hopes, but let’s not lose perspective-FM Shoukry’s visit to Jerusalem underlines countries’ converging interests, but if Cairo’s bid to relaunch peace process fails, Sissi is liable to take public ties back down a notch-By Raphael Ahren July 11, 2016, 4:44 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Sunday’s surprise visit to Israel by Egypt’s top diplomat, Sameh Shoukry, could herald a new golden age of Arab-Israeli cooperation. What started with a friendly dinner in Jerusalem discussing a prime ministerial visit to Cairo could lead to the relaunching of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks under Egyptian auspices, and maybe even end with the successful conclusion of a long-sought final-status agreement deal. But as Jews know from an earlier experience with Egypt, just because the road looks short doesn’t mean it won’t take 40 years. Jerusalem’s enthusiasm over the historic visit might yet prove premature. The last time an Egyptian foreign minister came to Israel was nine years ago. On July 25, 2007, Ahmed Aboul Gheit (who earlier this year became the secretary-general of the Arab League) and his Jordanian colleague Abdelelah Al-Khatib arrived in Jerusalem. Officially, their visit was billed as a mission of an “Arab League Initiative Supervisory Committee” tasked with explaining the Arab Peace Initiative to Israeli leaders. At the time, Benjamin Netanyahu was the head of the opposition, Ehud Olmert was prime minister and Tzipi Livni was foreign minister. She had returned from a meeting with then-Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in Cairo just a few months earlier. But major tectonic shifts have taken place in the Middle East since 2007, thoroughly reorganizing the regional system of alliances. These changes made possible Sunday’s visit, which was held in a “very good atmosphere,” a senior Israeli official said. “There is a welcome change from the Egyptians that manifested itself in their readiness to publicize their good relations with Israel,” the official said.Indeed, unlike his predecessor’s visit nearly a decade ago, Shoukry’s arrival in Jerusalem is not being sold as part of an international delegation. He held two meetings with Netanyahu — one at the office, one at the prime minister’s residence, where he signed the guestbook and even stepped out on the patio to watch the final of the Euro soccer tournament. The fact that Shoukry did not mind being photographed fraternizing with the Israeli leader in an nonprofessional context is truly remarkable.Tonight Sara & I hosted Egyptian FM Sameh Shoukry in our Jerusalem home. We made time to watch the #Euro2016Final. pic.twitter.com/30zQnBj6LY— Benjamin Netanyahu (@netanyahu) July 10, 2016-Furthermore, Israelis and Egyptians are currently planning to organize a meeting in Cairo between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah el-Sissi later this year, according to several Israeli and Arab sources. All these are clear signs of warming ties between the two governments and another impressive foreign policy achievement for Netanyahu. But in diplomacy it is all about interests, and the Egyptians are not cozying up to Israel because they have become ardent Zionists. Cairo is pursuing several goals in its rapprochement with Israel, and despite the justified satisfaction over Shoukry’s historic visit, Jerusalem should keep in mind that there are limits to the Egyptian-Israeli relationship.Cairo’s main interest in its budding friendship with Jerusalem is cooperation in the fields of security and energy. Egypt needs Israel’s help in effectively fighting Hamas and other terrorists groups, and is eager for Israel’s natural gas.Other areas of mutual concern are Turkey’s role in the Middle East and the Egyptian offer to return the Sanafir and Tiran islands to Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, Cairo reportedly believes Israel’s newly strengthened influence in Ethiopia could help Egypt in its negotiations with Addis Ababa over the latter’s construction of a new dam on the River Nile.Equally important, Sissi sees himself as the new patron of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, as he made plain in his May 17 speech calling on both sides to relaunch negotiations and offering his stewardship in the process. Israeli cooperation is crucial if Sissi wants to cement the regional leadership role he so craves.“My visit to Israel today is a continuation of Egypt’s longstanding sense of responsibility toward peace for itself and all the peoples of the region,” Shoukry declared Sunday at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem. “Egypt remains ready to contribute toward achieving this goal.”Cairo’s commitment to finding a solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict remains “steadfast and unwavering,” he reiterated, adding that his government was “serious in its determination to provide all possible forms of support in order to achieve this noble goal.”Israel, unhappy about the French plan for an international conference later this year Paris, has always preferred a regional approach and is not opposed to Egypt taking the lead in the peace process. The European approach, Netanyahu believes, will lead nowhere and only harden the Palestinian negotiating position. On the other hand, he expects the Sunni Arab states to be able to convince Ramallah to make the concessions needed for progress.A new peace push led by Sissi could block the French initiative and stifle any attempt by US President Barack Obama to support a Palestine-related resolution at the United Nations, the Israeli leader hopes. In this respect, too, there is real a convergence of interests between Jerusalem and Cairo. However, Shoukry made plain that he is not giving Israel any free passes when it comes to the Palestinian issue. “The plight of the Palestinian people becomes more arduous every day, and the dream of peace and security moves further out of the Israeli people’s reach as long as the conflict continues,” he said.“It is no longer acceptable to claim that the status quo is the most that we can achieve of the hopes and the aspirations of the Palestinian and Israeli peoples,” he declared. The status quo is unsustainable, he added, calling for “serious steps to build confidence.”Egypt has made the first step by coming to Jerusalem, and now the onus is on the Israelis to show they are serious about making progress, Shoukry implied. The ball is indeed now in Israel’s court, and Netanyahu might find it difficult to deliver the goods Egypt requires to keep showing goodwill. The prime minister’s May 30 declaration that the Arab Peace Initiative “contains positive elements” is not enough. In order to justify his embrace of Israel to the Egyptian people, Sissi will need to see concrete steps from Jerusalem. But Netanyahu’s right-leaning coalition — and his own convictions — could make it difficult for him to make moves that could lead to meaningful progress. And if the current efforts to relaunch Israeli-Palestinian negotiations crash and burn due to what many Egyptians will doubtlessly see as Israeli recalcitrance, Sissi might quickly downgrade again his public engagement with Jerusalem.

It refers to the area of the Temple Mount only as a ‘Muslim holy site of worship.’”The letter goes on to detail the Jewish people’s historic connection to the city and argues that Israel “defends religious freedom for all of the great faiths – Judaism, Christianity and Islam – against the tide of intolerance sweeping the Middle East region.”It says that “UNESCO’s adoption of utterly false allegations about Israeli archaeological practices is misplaced and hypocritical, at best” and urges the UN envoys to “oppose this effort to distort history.”— Times of Israel staff contributed.

We've uncovered all aspects of their culture. Now we're finally going to see the people '-First-ever Philistine cemetery found, offers unique glimpse of Israelites’ biblical enemy-‘Final great discovery’ from coastal city of Ashkelon, with graves of 210 individuals dating back 3,000 years, will shed light on deaths, and lives, of ancient foe-By Ilan Ben Zion July 10, 2016, 12:52 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Goliath’s death is described in gruesome detail in the Bible, but how the Philistine champion would have been laid to rest has been a mystery. Scientists now say an extraordinary find may lay that giant enigma, much like the biblical villain, to rest.Archaeologists digging at the southern coastal city of Ashkelon announced Sunday the discovery of the first cemetery belonging to the ancient Israelites’ dreaded and shadowy nemeses, the Philistines.Speaking to the press at Jerusalem’s Rockefeller Museum, Daniel Master, one of the heads of the Leon Levy Expedition, said the cemetery, “the final great discovery” after 30 years of excavation of Ashkelon, could help shed light on the origins and customs of the Philistines. The discovery of a sizable cemetery, with over 210 individuals, at a site conclusively linked to the Philistines, was a “critical missing link” that allows scholars “to fill out the story of the Philistines,” said Master, a professor of archaeology at Wheaton College. The cemetery, discovered just outside the ancient city walls and dated to between the 11th and 8th centuries BCE — a period associated with the rise of the Israelites — may contain thousands of individuals, providing an abundance of material to study, he said. With that broad a population, “we’re going to be able to reconstruct what the Philistines as a group were like,” Master said. The announcement was timed to coincide with the opening of an Israel Museum exhibit showcasing finds spanning 6,000 years from Ashkelon at the Rockefeller. Among the items on display are 3,800-year-old city gates, gold and silver jewelry demonstrating its commercial prominence, and a Roman marble slab etched with Crusader and Fatimid inscriptions.Throughout much of its 22 layers of settlement, Ashkelon was a “great seaport,” situated on the Mediterranean and on the main coastal trade route,” Harvard University’s Larry Stager, co-director of the dig, said. It was significantly larger than cities inland during the Bronze and Iron Age, with 10-12,000 people, because it could sustain greater population through commerce.Ashkelon was one of the five main Philistine cities for six centuries — , along with Gaza, Ashdod, Gath and Ekron — from the 1100s BCE down to Ashkelon’s destruction by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar’s army in 604 BCE.“We’ve uncovered their houses, we’ve uncovered their trading networks, we’ve uncovered all aspects of their culture,” Master said. With the discovery of the cemetery, “we’re finally going to see the people themselves.”“There have been other random finds of people caught in Philistine destruction on occasion,” he explained, “but nothing like this. No systematic example of what they thought about death and how they treated people in that process.”Isolated graves containing Philistine style pottery were thought to be possible examples of their practices, but the few cases were not enough to convince most scholars.“What we needed for a Philistine cemetery was to find a large one that was directly connected to one of the cities we know as a Philistine city,” Master said. “And Ashkelon is exactly that.”Scholars believe the Philistines were among a number of tribes of non-Semitic peoples who migrated across the Mediterranean — possibly from modern Greece and Turkey — and settled the Canaanite coast in the early Iron Age.Ancient Egyptian accounts describe hordes of “Sea Peoples” arriving by ship to the shores of the eastern Mediterranean in the late 13th and early 12th centuries BCE. During the reign of Ramesses III, hordes of seaborne people bore down on the kingdom, were thwarted by the Egyptian armies and settled along the Levantine coast. Among the groups mentioned in the reliefs of Ramesses III’s mortuary temple at Medinet Habu are the “Peleset,” whom scholars associate with the Philistines.“Ninety-nine percent of the chapters and articles written about Philistine burial customs should be revised or ignored now that we have the first and only Philistine cemetery,” said Stager, Dorot Professor of the Archaeology of Israel, Emeritus, at Harvard University, in a statement.Master said that there were no clear connections between Philistine funerary practices found in Ashkelon and any particular group from the Aegean, but DNA analysis of the remains could determine the proximity of relatedness to other populations in the region and point to the peoples’ origins.“Connecting to the Aegean is quite difficult, because Aegean burial practice is quite diverse. There isn’t one particular practice that we can say ‘that’s Aegean burial practice,'” he said. The Philistines at Ashkelon were buried in pits along with personal items, or sometimes cremated or buried in multi-chambered tombs.Canaanites and Israelites, by comparison buried their dead in cave tombs, then collected the bones after the flesh decomposed. Philistine dead, Master said, once buried weren’t disturbed, indicating the group held “different cultural ideas about what death meant and what the afterlife meant.”“As we look at the distinctive burial practices, we get a sense for how they treated and thought about death and the afterlife in different ways from the people around them,” Master said.Study of the bones found in the cemetery already pointed to physiological differences in the Philistine population from their Canaanite predecessors and Israelite neighbors. DNA tests whose results are forthcoming may provide additional information about their origins.Examining the remains has only just begun, and scholars are “only just scratching the surface” of how the Philistines lived and died.————Follow Ilan Ben Zion on Twitter and Facebook.

REVELATION 19:19

We shall have World Government, whether or not we like it. The only question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or consent.James Paul Warburg appearing before the Senate on 7th February 1950

Like a famous WWII Belgian General,Paul Henry Spock said in 1957:We need no commission, we have already too many. What we need is a man who is great enough to be able to keep all the people in subjection to himself and to lift us out of the economic bog into which we threaten to sink. Send us such a man. Be he a god or a devil, we will accept him.And today, sadly, the world is indeed ready for such a man.

No one will enter the New World Order... unless he or she will make a pledge to worship Lucifer. No one will enter the New Age unless he will take a Luciferian Initiation.- David Spangler Director of Planetary Initiative United Nations.

Obama: Brexit does not mean end of the EU By Andrew Rettman-EUOBSERVER

WARSAW, 8. Jul, 16:15-US president Barack Obama has said talk that Brexit would lead to the collapse of the EU is “misplaced”, amid promises to work more closely with Europe.Speaking to press at the Marriott Hotel in Warsaw on Friday (8 July) ahead of a Nato summit, he said the British vote to leave the EU “has led some to say that the entire edifice of European security and prosperity is crumbling … This kind of hyperbole is misplaced”.“Based on my conversations with [British] prime minister Cameron and with [German] chancellor Merkel and here today, I’m absolutely confident the EU will work in a pragmatic and cooperative fashion to ensure that the UK transition is orderly”, he said.“No one has an interest in protracted adversarial negotiations”, he said.Obama spoke alongside EU Council chief Donald Tusk and European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker.Calling them by their first names, he said the EU and US would continue to work hand-in-hand on the world stage.“The security of America and Europe is indivisible … Europe is an indispensable partner around the globe”, he said.He listed the main areas of cooperation, such as Russia sanctions, counter-terrorism, free trade talks, and climate change. But with populist politicians on the rise in the US and in the EU, he added that both Washington and Brussels must address the “fears” of poorer people who were “left behind” by globalisation.“Our governments, including in the EU, cannot be remote institutions. We have to be responsive, move quickly, with minimal bureaucracy to deliver economic growth”, Obama said.Tusk told press that “it's important to send a legible signal to the whole world that Brexit is, albeit sad and important, just one incident and not the start of a process”.“To all our opponents, who want to see a repeat of Brexit, I would like to clearly say that you won’t see on your screens the words ‘to be continued’,” he added. For his part, Juncker said the UK and the EU are bound together by shared “feelings” in “all aspects of life”.He said that it would remain a “strong ally”, but he warned Britain that it would not get access to the single market unless it let in migrant workers from Europe in return.Speaking later on Friday after a meeting with Polish prime minister Beata Szydlo, the outgoing British leader, David Cameron, said: “Great Britain might be leaving the EU, but we are not turning our back on Europe or on the defence and security of Europe”.The EU and the US-led Nato alliance the same day signed a memorandum on closer cooperation.Nato head Jens Stoltenberg said they would work together on “answers to hybrid threats, cyber threats and also maritime cooperation”, referring to Nato efforts to support EU anti-people smuggling operations in the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.Tusk said it would be an “illusion” to think that the EU could “go it alone” from Nato by forming parallel military structures. He said the EU could “add value” to Nato instead. “At stake is real life. Our critical infrastructure could be attacked. Our banking systems could be hacked. Our citizens could be exposed to disinformation campaigns on social media”, he said, referring to some forms of so called hybrid warfare. The memo envisages joint EU-Nato military exercises in 2017 and 2018 and a new action plan on future cooperation, to be drafted by Nato and by the EU foreign service by December. The discussion of hybrid warfare refers to Russia's covert and multi-pronged attack on Ukraine.Stoltenberg said on Friday that Nato's plan to post troops to eastern Europe and to firm up its anti-hybrid capabilities were prompted by Russia's behaviour."We have seen a more assertive Russia. We have seen a Russia which has been willing to use military force against sovereign nations in Europe, with aggressive actions against Ukraine, the illegal annexation of Crimea", he said."That’s the reason … why we are now increasing our military presence in the eastern part of the alliance."

Nato's Russia-deterrent takes shape in Warsaw By Andrew Rettman-EUOBSERVER

WARSAW, 8. Jul, 22:19-Canada, Germany, the UK and the US will take the lead in defending Europe from potential Russian aggression, in plans agreed at a Nato summit in Warsaw on Friday (8 July).Canada will head a force of some 1,000 men, called a battalion in military jargon, to be stationed in Latvia. Germany will lead a battalion in Lithuania. The UK will lead one in Estonia and the US will lead one in Poland.US leader Barack Obama told Polish president Andrzej Duda that almost 1,000 US soldiers would be deployed there to stand “shoulder-to-shoulder” with Polish troops. British leader David Cameron said he would send 500 men to Estonia and 150 to Poland.A senior Nato official said France would also send large numbers of men to Estonia and Lithuania. He said the US pledge was “substantial by its very nature”. If US troops were fired upon, it would guarantee direct US engagement alongside any Nato pledge.Nato head Jens Stoltenberg said “practically all the [Nato] nations" pledged on Friday that they would contribute soldiers either to the battalions or to reinforcement troops to be stationed elsewhere in Europe. He said the deployment would be “open-ended” and would last as long as the Russian threat persisted. The forces are to start coming “at some time” in 2017. They are to be “combat ready” to handle a “limited incursion”, such as Russia’s attack on Crimea in Ukraine two years ago, before reinforcements of up to 40,000 men and heavy armour arrived.Details of where they would stay and what kind of operations or drills they would conduct are still to be discussed. The Nato official said Friday’s meeting marked “the return of Canada” to European defence after the Cold War and that the decisions, more broadly, marked “the most significant change in a generation” to Nato’s posture. The battalions are part of wider plans that also include eight new military HQs in the Baltic states, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia and a joint Bulgarian-Romanian force with Nato elements in Romania. The Nato official indicated that the alliance is preparing for a full scale confrontation with Russia if need be, including large scale conventional warfare and nuclear warfare. He said Russia has built “bubbles” of conventional rocket bases in Crimea, in the Kamchatka region in Russia's far east, in its Kaliningrad exclave in Europe, and in Syria that could be used to cut Nato’s supply and reinforcement lines. But he added: “I’ll put this diplomatically, such a capability can be addressed and tackled in order to maintain freedom of movement”.Nato states’ ambassadors will meet with Russia’s envoy to the alliance in Brussels on Wednesday (13 July) to discuss the developments. The meeting will discuss how to make sure there’s no accidental exchange of fire and escalation in the Baltic region and in Syria. It will also discuss implementation of the “Minsk” peace deal in east Ukraine.Stoltenberg repeated on Friday that the moves are defensive in nature and that they come in reaction to Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and its menacing drills and statements in the Baltic region. He said “Russia cannot and should not be isolated” because it is Europe’s largest neighbour and a UN veto holder. He also said diplomatic dialogue is needed more than ever to reduce tensions. The French president, Francois Hollande, spoke of Russia in even warmer tones on Friday. He told press in Warsaw that: “For France, Russia is not an adversary, not a threat. Russia is a partner which, it is true, may, sometimes, and we have seen that in Ukraine, use force, which we have condemned, as when it annexed Crimea”.With Nato leaders and top EU officials putting on a show of solidarity in the Polish capital, the French president laid claim to a different foreign policy."Nato has no role at all to be saying what Europe's relations with Russia should be”, Hollande said.

HOARDING OF GOLD AND SILVER

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed:(CONFISCATED) their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

LUKE 2:1-3
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

GENESIS 49:16-17
16  Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.
17  Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

REVELATION 6:5-6

Iranian commander: 100,000 missiles ready to ‘annihilate’ Israel-Revolutionary Guards deputy chief says Lebanon-based rockets will ‘strike at the heart of the Zionist regime’-By JTA July 9, 2016, 12:04 am-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

The deputy commander of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards said the country has over 100,000 missiles in Lebanon alone readied for the “annihilation” of Israel.Speaking in a July 1 speech aired on on Iran’s state-run IRIB TV, Brigadier General Hossein Salami also said that Iran has “tens of thousands” of additional missiles that are ready to wipe the “accursed black dot” of Israel off the map.His comments were translated from the Farsi by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).“Today, more than ever, there is fertile ground — with the grace of God — for the annihilation, the wiping out and the collapse of the Zionist regime,” Salami said, according to the MEMRI translation.“In Lebanon alone, over 100,000 missiles are ready to be launched. If there is a will, if it serves [our] interests, and if the Zionist regime repeats its past mistakes due to its miscalculations, these missiles will pierce through space, and will strike at the heart of the Zionist regime. They will prepare the ground for its great collapse in the new era,” Salami said.Lebanon is the base for the Hezbollah terrorist group, a powerful Iranian proxy that waged war with Israel in 2006, during which it fired scores of rockets into the Jewish state. Hezbollah is today believed to have more than 100,000 missiles in its arsenal.Salami also boasted that “tens of thousands of other high-precision, long-range missiles, with the necessary destructive capabilities, have been placed in various places throughout the Islamic world.”“They are just waiting for the command, so that when the trigger is pulled, the accursed black dot will be wiped off the geopolitical map of the world, once and for all,” he said, referring to Israel.Salami’s remarks came days before Germany’s Foreign Ministry said it is closely watching Iran’s attempts to procure nuclear and missile technology.German intelligence agencies reported dozens of such attempts last year, according to the Associated Press. A separate report by a German domestic intelligence agency said that counter-espionage officials had spotted 141 procurement attempts in one German state in the last year.Martin Schaefer, a spokesman for Germany’s Foreign Ministry, said that Germany and its partners would work to enforce the agreement signed in Vienna last July meant to curb Iran’s nuclear program.“We are already talking to our partners in New York and elsewhere, and we won’t hesitate to discuss this with Tehran,” he said.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report

A lot of missiles will fly at the Israeli home front'-Bracing for next war, IDF troops drill for mass casualty rocket strike-A week after a Gaza missile hit a Sderot preschool, Home Front Command embarks on a massive exercise to prepare for the next attack-By Judah Ari Gross July 8, 2016, 8:09 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Smoke, explosions, rubble, screams, blood. Down in the south of Israel, a residential building in Safed was hit by a missile with a half-ton warhead. There was no immediate body count, but videos surfaced on social media of people trapped in collapsed building and under cars. Not really, of course. This was a search and rescue exercise by the Israel Defense Forces’ Home Front Command, on their base in Zikim near the Gaza border. The residential building hit by a rocket in “Safed” was actually hundreds of miles away from the real northern Israeli city. The explosions and smoke were clever pyrotechnics. The blood was fake, as were the screams. The rubble has been there for years, playing the part of numerous Israeli cities for search and rescue exercises.Sunday’s exercise was designed to be immersive, as close to the real thing as possible, with fake rocket alert sirens blaring in the background, pretend journalists interviewing rescue workers and the aforementioned pyrotechnics and other theatrics meant to reproduce the clamor of such attacks.“This advanced training exercise also included the integration of IDF officers, police officers, firefighters and Magen David Adom,” Brig. Gen. Dedi Simchi, chief of staff for the Home Front Command, told The Times of Israel on the sidelines of the exercise.Less than a week after a real rocket fired from Gaza struck an Israeli kindergarten in Sderot, IDF soldiers took part in a large, theatrical drill on Sunday designed to imitate just such an incident. The timing was a coincidence. The exercise had been planned long before last Friday night’s attack. But the recent strike demonstrated the necessity of drills like it.In Gaza, Lebanon, Syria or Iran, the immediate threats to Israel come in the form of rockets, missiles and mortars. While Israel possesses one of the world’s best missile defense batteries, the IDF has repeatedly stressed that those systems are not a panacea, that in the next war the country needs to be prepared for civilian casualties and strikes on Israeli cities.“In the next war, we determined that a lot of missiles of varying sizes and types will fly at the Israeli home front. Some of them will hit residential areas,” Simchi said.Israel may be a society that is used to war, but the Israeli civilian population has not been seriously harmed during a war in decades. In the 2014 Gaza war, six Israeli civilians died. In the 1973 Yom Kippur War — arguably the closest the Jewish state came to destruction — though approximately 2,500 Israeli soldiers were killed in the fighting, there were zero Israeli civilian deaths. The only person who died away from the front lines in the October war was an air force pilot who was killed when a Syrian surface-to-surface missile struck the Ramat David base in northern Israel.Israel’s last war with a large number of civilian casualties was in fact its first, with some 2,400 non-combatants dying in the War of Independence. Those figures are undoubtedly a testament to the IDF’s ability to protect the civilian population, but they may also give Israeli citizens a false sense of security, one that the IDF top brass has worked and is working to fix.“I don’t think that the population isn’t prepared. But I do think that we need to adjust citizens’ expectations. In the past three rounds with Hamas in Gaza, the rockets weren’t so heavy,” he said.In a speech last month, the head of army intelligence Maj. Gen. Herzi Halevy stressed the importance of those “expectations.”“In the Yom Kippur War, we had one person” — the IAF pilot — “killed on the home front from a Syrian missile. The situation in the next conflict will be completely different,” Halevy said.As such, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot instructed the Home Front Command to put additional effort into preparing itself and the country for attacks, Simchi said.“We understand that the home front is going to be the secondary front in every war. If there’s going to be a war up north or down south, the Israeli home front is going to be hit with rockets,” Simchi said.In addition to large-scale exercises, like the one conducted on Sunday, this has meant speaking with the country’s rescue services and government agencies to ensure that there is an understanding of who is responsible for what during an emergency — something that Israel has not always excelled at.“Today there are agreements — written and signed — between the Home Front Command and National Emergency Authority, written and signed agreements between the Home Front Command and the Israel Police. We are ready,” Simchi said.“There’s no doubt that since the Second Lebanon War, everything dealing with the home front and emergency preparedness has improved greatly. For instance, Simchi offered, in the 10 years since that conflict, the precision of Israel’s rocket alert system has improved tenfold. Where the country was once divided into 25 alert zones, there are now 250, Simchi said, and there are plans to make the system even more accurate. In addition to the military’s improvement, individual Israeli cities have also become more prepared for rocket attacks, the brigadier general said.“Approximately 93 percent of the local authorities are in ‘Good’ condition, which we define as being able to handle threats and know how to provide a response [to disaster],” he said.“There’s a lot to do, but we’ve done a lot. We have a very good trend of improvement.”

Iran rejects ‘biased’ UN report on its missile tests-Tehran says document ignores US failure to abide by landmark nuclear deal; Berlin also monitoring regime’s activity-By Times of Israel staff and AP July 8, 2016, 7:19 pm

Iran on Friday dismissed as biased a confidential report by United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon that condemned Tehran’s missile tests, urging Ban Ki-moon to produce “a fair and realistic report.”The Iranian reaction came a day after Reuters reported that Ban found Tehran’s missile tests to be inconsistent “with the constructive spirit” of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal. The deal saw the Islamic republic halt its atomic activity in return for the easing of years of crippling international economic sanctions.Reuters on Friday quoted an Iranian Foreign Ministry source as telling Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency that, “I suggest that Mr. Ban give a fair report … in which he also mentions America is not fulfilling its commitments under the deal.”While Ban’s report “stopped short” of saying the missile launches were a “violation” of the UN Security Council resolution of the nuclear deal, Reuters said, it did leave it to the Security Council to make a final decision on the issue. The Council will discuss Ban’s report on July 18, Reuters said.Germany also said Friday it is closely watching Iran’s attempts to procure nuclear and missile technology, after German intelligence agencies reported dozens of cases last year.Germany’s domestic intelligence agency said last month that Iran’s nuclear procurement efforts in the country remained “at a quantitatively high level” in 2015 and attempts to acquire missile technology showed an “upward trend.”A separate report by the domestic intelligence agency for North Rhine-Westphalia, published Monday, stated that counter-espionage officials had spotted 141 procurement attempts in the state last year — twice as many as in 2014.German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Friday that the intelligence report made for “unpleasant” reading, but noted that it covered a period before the deal with Iran came into force on Jan. 16, 2016.Schaefer said that Germany and its partners would work to ensure Iran abides by the agreement signed in Vienna last July.“We are already talking to our partners in New York and elsewhere, and we won’t hesitate to discuss this with Tehran,” he said.Referring to Iran’s ballistic missile testing last fall, Schaefer said it could be the result of political infighting inside the country.“There are considerable forces which can exert power on the domestic structures in Iran and for whom the policies of the president and the foreign minister are a thorn in their side,” he said.“They may be tempted to try to undermine and torpedo the Vienna agreement on the nuclear program and the resulting normalization of relations with us and the West as a whole.”

Belgian Jewish paper demands EU action on Abbas ‘blood libel’-Referring to PA chief’s false talk of rabbis wanting to poison Palestinian wells, editor Michael Freilich urges ‘unambiguous rejection of this anti-Jewish incitement’-By JTA July 8, 2016, 9:58 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

A Belgian Jewish newspaper urged European leaders to condemn a false statement by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, whose June 23 speech in Brussels about rabbis seeking to poison water wells sparked outrage in Israel. The Joods Actueel monthly on Monday published an open letter on the matter by its editor-in-chief, Michael Freilich, to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. In his speech before the European Parliament, Abbas said: “Just a week ago, some rabbis rose up in Israel and explicitly announced and demanded of their government that it poison the water in order to kill the Palestinians.”Abbas’s office later apologized for the reference to wells, which a probe by Israeli media showed was false. The anger was in part over the fact that the theme of poisoning wells was frequent motif in medieval blood libels against Jews, which often led to deadly pogroms. Freilich also branded Abbas’ speech a “blood libel.”European Parliament President Martin Schulz and the EU coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism, Katharina von Schnurbein, both failed to correct Abbas before or during the speech, for which Abbas received a standing ovation. They have also yet to distance their institutions from the claims, Freilich wrote.“Painfully, Martin Schulz even published a tweet calling Abbas’ speech ‘inspiring,’” Freilich said. The Joods Actueel editor wrote to Merkel after Schulz’s office told the paper: “The content of the address is a total responsibility of the state leaders and the European Parliament is not in a position to censure or to control it.“Inspiring address by Pres. #Abbas to #EPlenary – #EU supports aspiration by large majority of #Palestinians for peace and reconciliation— EP President (@EP_President) June 23, 2016-Belgian Jews seek neither control nor censorship, Freilich wrote, but they do require an “unambiguous rejection of this anti-Jewish incitement in the heart of Europe.”Merkel’s office confirmed its receipt the letter but will not reply, said Freilich, who subsequently set up an online petition demanding action on Merkel’s part.

Jewish couple in Morocco found murdered, dismembered-Police say gardener of Sam Toledano, Vicky Chetrit confesses to killing them, disposed of body parts across Casablanca-By Times of Israel staff July 9, 2016, 5:14 pm

An elderly Jewish couple in Morocco were murdered in their Casablanca home last week. The killer then dismembered their bodies and disposed of the parts in different areas across the city.According to Moroccan media, the couple’s gardener was arrested by police and has confessed to the crime, which he said he committed due to financial hardship. The victims were identified as Sam Toledano and Vicky Chetrit.According to local reports, the man, identified in the Moroccan daily Le360 by the initials M.R., was facing eviction from his apartment when he hatched a plan to kill the couple and steal their money and jewelry. He arrived at the couple’s home last Sunday and killed Toledano before attacking and killing Chetrit. He then dismembered their bodies and disposed of them in various neighborhoods of the sprawling Moroccan city. The two were reported missing last Wednesday by a member of the local Jewish community.Using ultra-violet light, police officers sent to the home were able to find traces of blood the killer had attempted to clean up, according to Le360.The gardener was quickly identified as the prime suspect and arrested. The police retrieved the couple’s remains within 24 hours of the arrest, according to the report.

Israeli moderately injured in shooting attack on West Bank highway-Army launches manhunt to find perpetrators; victim wounded by gunshot to the shin; incident occurred near Tekoa-By Judah Ari Gross July 9, 2016, 11:33 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

An Israeli man was moderately wounded in a drive-by shooting attack on Saturday night near the West Bank settlement of Tekoa outside of Bethlehem, the army said. The victim, a man in his 30s, received initial treatment on the scene before being taken by military ambulance to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for further care, the Magen David Adom rescue service said.He suffered a gunshot wound to the shin, according to a spokesperson for the hospital.“Multiple bullet holes were identified on the vehicle,” the army said. The man’s wife and five children were in the vehicle with him during the shooting, a spokesperson for the Etzion bloc said. The Israel Defense Forces launched a manhunt to locate the perpetrator or perpetrators of the attack, a military spokesperson said. The army closed off the village of Sa’ir, south of Tekoa, as an “additional security measure” during its search for the suspect, an IDF spokesperson said.Palestinian media reported that following the closure, clashes broke out between IDF soldiers and residents in Sa’ir.The shooting attack took place at what’s known as the “T” junction on the highway connecting the Efrat and Tekoa settlements in the Etzion bloc. The Tekoa settlement was closed off immediately following the attack, according to a message sent to residents.Davidi Perl, head of the Etzion bloc regional council, released a statement following the attack, calling for government action.“Enough! The ‘Lone Wolf Intifada’ has come out of its recess and returned with guns. The prime minister and defense minister need to make a dramatic change on the ground. We must return the security to the citizens of the State of Israel,” Perl said in a statement. The attack Saturday comes after the brutal killing of 13-year-old Hallel Yaffa Ariel last Thursday morning in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron. Ariel was stabbed to death by a Palestinian terrorist while she was sleeping in her bedroom.A day later, Rabbi Miki Mark, a yeshiva head from the settlement of Otniel, was killed in a drive-by shooting by Palestinian terrorists while driving on Route 60 with his family. Mark’s wife was seriously injured and two of his children were wounded in the shooting attack which caused the family’s car to overturn. This past week also saw a number of attempted attacks on troops. On Wednesday, three IDF soldiers were lightly injured in a suspected car-ramming attack near the Neve Daniel settlement outside of Bethlehem. Security officials were treating the incident as a suspected terror attack by the Palestinian driver, who was seriously hurt.On Tuesday, Israeli soldiers shot a Palestinian woman as she attempted to stab one of them at a bus stop near the West Bank settlement of Ariel. The woman received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment, a military spokesperson said.Since October 2015, 35 Israelis and four others have been killed and hundreds more injured in the wave of Palestinian attacks, though the violence had dramatically waned of late. More than 200 Palestinians have also been killed, some two-thirds of them while carrying out attacks and the rest in clashes with troops, Israeli officials say.

NATO boosts support for countries battling Islamic extremism-Allaince’s allies in Mideast, North Africa to launch new naval mission in Mediterranean, use surveillance planes-By Lolita C. Baldor and John-Thor Dahlburg July 9, 2016, 8:02 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — NATO allies agreed Saturday to do more to help countries in North Africa and the Middle East that are targets of Islamic extremism, including using NATO surveillance planes in the fight against the Islamic State group.NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said alliance leaders also agreed to launch a new naval mission in the Mediterranean, and made commitments to maintain a stable military presence in Afghanistan and to fund Afghan security forces through 2020.“Today we have taken decisions to strengthen our partners and to project stability beyond our borders,” Stoltenberg told reporters on the second day of a crucial NATO summit in Warsaw. He said millions of people in Africa and the Middle East have been rendered “homeless and helpless” by radical organizations like IS and that the extremist groups are also to blame for organizing terrorist attacks in Europe and America. In response, Stoltenberg said NATO will start a training and capacity-building mission for Iraqi armed forces in Iraq, a country he called central in the fight against IS. NATO is also working to establish an intelligence center in Tunisia, a major recruiting ground for IS, and will shortly start providing support to Tunisian special operation forces, he said.Stoltenberg said US President Barack Obama and leaders of the other 27 NATO countries also agreed in principle for alliance surveillance aircraft to provide direct support to the US-led coalition fighting IS in Syria and Iraq, a decision the NATO chief called “a clear signal of our resolve to help tackle terrorism.” NATO diplomats say they expect flights by alliance AWACS planes to begin this fall.Stoltenberg said the alliance will launch a new maritime operation in the Mediterranean called Operation Sea Guardian, whose responsibilities will include counterterrorism. NATO will also cooperate with the European Union’s efforts to shut down human smuggling operations that have fueled Europe’s greatest migrant crisis since World War II.The alliance will also increase cooperation with Jordan, and is preparing to help the new government in Libya design policies and institutions to help it better defend itself against extremist organizations, Stoltenberg said.“We will provide greater support to our partners, so they can secure their countries and push back against violent extremism,” he said.Obama had been urging his fellow NATO leaders in Warsaw to expand their support for the war in Afghanistan against the Taliban. Meanwhile, violence in the US led him to cut his Europe trip short so he can return home Sunday. The US has pledged to provide $3.5 billion annually to fund Afghan forces, and the government in Kabul is expected to contribute as much as $500 million. Allies would provide the remaining $1 billion. The funding would maintain a total of 352,000 Afghan Army troops and police officers.“We are very close and I am certain we will reach that (funding) level,” Stoltenberg told reporters. A senior US administration official said NATO has commitments for about 90 percent of the goal.Stoltenberg said it’s too soon to say exactly how many troops allies will agree to keep in Afghanistan under NATO’s Resolute Support training and advisory mission. But he said he believed that, based on commitments made Saturday, force levels will remain largely stable. Specific numbers will be finalized this fall, he said.US administration officials said they believe the number of forces dedicated to the NATO mission will be a bit more than 12,000, and the US has pledged about 6,700 of that total. The officials were not authorized to discuss the details publicly, so spoke on condition of anonymity.Earlier this week, Obama announced that overall he would keep 8,400 US troops in Afghanistan, rather than cut their numbers to 5,500 as he once planned. In addition to taking part in the NATO advisory-and-assist mission, the US has special operations forces in the country that conduct counterterrorism missions. The planned force levels allow NATO allies to remain in regional hubs around Afghanistan, with Germany in the north, Italy in the west, Turkey in the capital of Kabul and the United States in the east and south. The Warsaw summit, NATO’s first in two years, is considered by many to be the alliance’s most important since the Cold War. Stoltenberg says NATO, founded in 1949, needs to adapt to confront an array of new threats to its member nations’ security, including cyberattacks and violence sparked by radical organizations like IS.On Friday, NATO leaders approved the deployment of four multinational battalions to Poland and the Baltic states to deter Russia, as well as a Romanian-Bulgarian brigade for the Black Sea region. Germany will lead a multinational battalion in Lithuania, with similar battalions to be led by the United States in Poland, Britain in Estonia and Canada in Latvia. Those moves were strongly criticized Saturday by Mikhail Gorbachev, the former Soviet president during the Cold War.“NATO has begun preparations for escalating from the Cold War into a hot one,” Gorbachev was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency. “All the rhetoric in Warsaw just yells of a desire almost to declare war on Russia. They only talk about defense, but actually are preparing for offensive operations.”The White House, meanwhile, announced Obama would cut his Europe trip short by one day in the wake of the attack in Dallas that killed five police officers and wounded seven others during protests over fatal police shootings of black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.Obama will attend meetings in Warsaw on Saturday before heading to Spain for meetings with Spanish leaders and a visit with US troops. He returns to Washington on Sunday and will visit Dallas early next week at the request of Mayor Mike Rawlings.

Fatah TV airs cartoon shows Jews conspiring with the devil-Program for kids characterizes Jews as untrustworthy, driven by fear and jealousy of Muhammad and his followers-By Times of Israel staff July 8, 2016, 8:38 pm

A cartoon recently aired on a Fatah-owned Palestinian TV station showed Jews siding with the devil to fight Muslims and the Muslim prophet Muhammad. In one of the episodes of the show, the devil explains to another demon that he could not make the Jews fight Muhammad and his followers, because the hearts of the Jews were filled with fear. The clips were translated by Israel-based NGO Palestinian Media Watch.Another episode shows three Jews conspiring to fight against Muhammad. The character of the devil can be seen hovering behind the Jews as they conspire. The three are drawn in accordance with typical anti-Semitic tropes: long noses, beards and a proclivity to conspire. In a segment from the third episode, a character explains that Muhammad and his men are digging a trench near the northern edge of the city of Medina to defend it against the Kuraysh tribe – a Jewish tribe that had a treaty with Muhammad.According to the teachings of Islam, the tribe broke its treaty and Muhammad defeated them in a battle, after which he killed all the men in the tribe.A character in the cartoon explains that the Jews cannot be trusted to keep to the agreements they sign.A senior official in Fatah, which is headed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, was also criticized last month for telling Palestinian news site Donia al-Watan: “Wherever you find an Israeli, slit his throat.”
