DANIEL 7:8,24
8 I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn,(WORLD DICTATOR) before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings(10 NATIONS-10 WORLD DIVISION WORLD GOVERNMENT) that shall arise: and another shall rise after them;(#11 SPAIN) and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.(EITHER THE EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR BOOTS 3 ORIGINAL COUNTRIES FROM THE 6 FOUNDING MEMBERS OR THE DICTATOR TAKES OVER THE WORLD ECONOMY BY CONTROLLING 3 WORLD TRADE BLOCS)

EUROPEAN UNION ARMY

REVELATION 19:19
19 And I saw the beast,(EU LEADER) and the kings of the earth, and their armies,(UNITED NATIONS TROOPS) gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse,(JESUS) and against his army.(THE RAPTURED CHRISTIANS)

We shall have World Government, whether or not we like it. The only question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or consent.James Paul Warburg appearing before the Senate on 7th February 1950

Like a famous WWII Belgian General,Paul Henry Spock said in 1957:We need no commission, we have already too many. What we need is a man who is great enough to be able to keep all the people in subjection to himself and to lift us out of the economic bog into which we threaten to sink. Send us such a man. Be he a god or a devil, we will accept him.And today, sadly, the world is indeed ready for such a man.

No one will enter the New World Order... unless he or she will make a pledge to worship Lucifer. No one will enter the New Age unless he will take a Luciferian Initiation.- David Spangler Director of Planetary Initiative United Nations.

THE EU WORLD DICTATOR

REVELATION 6:1-2,13:1-3,7-9,16
1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse:(EU WORLD DICTATOR) and he that sat on him had a bow;(PEACE) and a crown was given unto him:(WORLD LEADER) and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.(THIS IS THE EU DICTATOR)
1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.(7 HEADS ARE THE 7TH WORLD EMPIRE IN HISTORY (THE EU) AS WELL AS THE VATICAN WHICH IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS. 10 HORNS ARE 10 KINGS THAT ARISE FROM THE EU, THEN #11 COMES ON THE SCENE BECOMES THE HEAD OF 3 OUNTRIES AND THEN THE EU DICTATOR, COMES FROM 1 OF THE 3 COUNTRIES THAT RULE FOR THIS TERM. I BELIEVE THE 3 COUNTRIES RULING AT THE TIME ARE SPAIN AND 2 OF THE ORIGINAL 6 THAT STARTED THE EU. FROM 1 OF THESE 3 COUNTRIES COME THE FUTURE EU DICTATOR PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION WHO GUARENTEES ISRAELS SECURITY FOR A LAND FOR PEACE 7 YEAR TREATY.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.(THE JEWISH EU DICTATOR GETS HIS POWER FROM SATAN,HE COMES FROM THE OCCULT).
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.(THE DICTATOR HAS A FALSE RESURRECTION. JUST LIKE JESUS HAD A LITERAL RESURRECTION THIS DICTATOR GETS MURDERED AT THE 3 1/2 YR MARK OF THR 7 YEAR TREATY AND COMES BACK TO LIFE. THIS IS HOW HE CAN CLAIM TO BE GOD AND GET AWAY WITH IT AND CONTROL THE WHOLE EARTH.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
16 And he (FALSE POPE) causeth all,(WORLD SOCIALISM) both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

WELL THE BIBLE CLEARLY SAYS THE WORLD LEADING REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE WILL BE INSPIRED BY THEN TOTALLY LEAD BY SATAN. FOR THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD OR 7 YEAR ISRAEL/ARAB PEACE TREATY. SO SINCE THE LEADER OF THE EU SAYS HE TALKS WITH ALIENS WHICH ARE DEMONS. FITS RIGHT INTO BIBLE PROPHECY.

EU President Jean Claude Juncker declared that he had met representatives of several planets in a meeting of the EU Parliament.
Here's the qoute:[Jump To Reply] ... of our flight towards the future, the horizons await us, and we fly toward the horizons that are those of Europe and of the whole planet. It must be known that those that observe us from afar are restless, I have seen and heard and listened to several of the leaders of other planets that are very restless because they wonder about the way the European Union is going to follow, and so we must assure and the Europeans and those that watch us from farther away.

Netherlands say No to deeper EU integration-By EUOBSERVER-july 5,16

Today, 11:57-Dutch PM Rutte told MEPs Tuesday that "to rush blindly into more political integration and a more federal Europe would be a denial of the sentiment felt by many people in Europe" that EU states should retain control of European affairs. French far right leader Le Pen said the EU would "die" if it went down that path. Belgian federalist MEP Verhofstadt said it would die if it did not.

Juncker refuses to take blame for Brexit-By EUOBSERVER-july 5,16

Today, 14:29-European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker Tuesday rebuffed calls by some politicians for him to step down over Brexit. "I refuse to let the commission be blamed for the outcome of the referendum", he told MEPs in Strasbourg. Council chief Donald Tusk urged national leaders to stop "often unfair" attacks on EU institutions. He added, however, that the EU cannot solve any serious problems "against the will of the member states".

Rats' and 'parrots' in heated EU debate on Brexit-By EUOBSERVER-july 5,16

Today, 11:54-MEPs traded barbed words in a debate on Brexit in Strasbourg Tuesday. Belgian liberal Verhofstadt said Brexit leaders in UK who had resigned after the vote were "rats leaving a sinking ship". British Tory Kamall said Brexit critics "jabbered" like "parrots". Green MEP Harms said she "despised" far-right eurosceptics. German deputy Weber called Brexiters "irresponsible". British eurosceptic MEP Nutall decried EU "bullying" and called for a "grown up" Brexit debate.

EU reassures Balkans on post-Brexit enlargement By Nikolaj Nielsen-july 5,16-euobserver

BRUSSELS, Today, 09:24-The EU, France and Germany have told Balkan leaders that the UK's exit from the EU would not stop aspirant countries from one day joining the fractured bloc.French president Francois Hollande and Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel at a summit in Paris on Monday (4 July) told their six Balkan counterparts that enlargement of the European Union would continue."The British decision does not in any way put into question commitments made toward countries in the Balkan region. They will be respected," said Hollande.Merkel issued a similar call of reassurance.EU foreign relations chief Federica Mogherini said: "It is very important for the European Union to reaffirm the willingness to proceed on the European integration of the Western Balkan countries - all of them”.Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia are at different stages in the enlargement process.-Serbia’s new chapters-Croatia on Monday agreed to no longer block Serbia from opening two new accession chapters that deal with the rule of law, the judiciary, and human rights. All EU states, except Croatia, had in April backed the opening of the chapters (23 and 24). But Zagreb at the time had issues with Serbia's treatment of the Croatian minority in Serbia and with its courts jurisdiction war crimes.Croatia's decision prompted Johannes Hahn, the EU commissioner in charge of enlargement, to send out a tweet saying that "#European perspective is real!”.Hahn at the summit also announced the EU would provide €96 million for three railway infrastructure projects in Serbia, Albania and in Kosovo."We will also provide €50 million for greening measures such as energy efficiency in residential buildings and small scale hydro projects," he said.-Brexit ‘earthquake’-The Paris summit is unlikely to have allayed all concerns that the EU will be able to return to business as usual, however.Serbia's prime minister Aleksandar Vucic described the UK decision "as the biggest political earthquake since the fall of the Berlin wall", reports the Associated Press. He said the knock-on effects would be felt in Serbia."There is no doubt that this will have significant consequences not only in the short but also in the long term. What the EU enlargement policy will be, I cannot tell you at this moment," he added. He spoke amid a growing pro-Russian sentiment that has taken root in Serbia, Moscow's only strategic ally in the region, with some in Serbia hoping that the UK referendum result would bring EU expansion to a halt.

EU wobbles on Canada free trade By Aleksandra Eriksson-euobserver-july 5,16

BRUSSELS, Today, 09:29-The European Commission could make a last-minute U-turn on plans to ratify a Canada free trade deal amid member states’ complaints. The issue at stake is whether to ratify CETA, the EU-Canada take pact, via the EU institutions simply, or to give national parliaments a say,Several commissioners, including commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and trade commissioner Cecilia Malmstroem, have in the past argued it was enough for the EU Council, represented by the 28 EU trade ministers, and a majority in the European Parliament to conclude the deal. They said that CETA covers matters that are the exclusive competence of the EU.But some countries, notably Austria, France and Germany, have said that CETA is a ”mixed” agreement, which also contains provisions that fall under member state responsibility.Under the mixed model, all 28 EU states’ legislatures would also have to give their approval. That would include, in some cases, devolved parliaments in federal EU states such as Belgium, Germany and Spain, bringing the total figure to 38 separate assemblies. The German deputy chancellor, Sigmar Gabriel, has warned that attempts to bypass national parliaments would provoke anti-trade and eurosceptic sentiment, which is already on the rise in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.French president Francois Hollande and Austrian chancellor Christian Kern have said the same. Most parliaments are likely to give the deal a green light, but not the ones of the Netherlands and in the Belgian region of Wallonia.Bulgaria and Romania have also threatened to veto the pact unless Canada grants their citizens visa-free travel. The commission has said that a ”simple” ratification process by the Council and the European Parliament would be democratic because trade ministers could ask their parliaments on how to vote. Its legal service has ruled out that CETA is a “mixed” agreement. Many MEPs also say their vote would provide the necessary parliamentary scrutiny. But Financial Times reports that Juncker got cold feet after last week’s EU summit, where he failed to receive the support of heads of government for his point of view.Other media report that Germany is unhappy with Juncker’s high-handed behaviour ahead of and after the British referendum on EU membership.Speaking in the margins of last week’s summit, Juncker declared that he ”wasn’t ready to die at the altar of legal issues”.The college of commissioners will decide on the ratification process during their meeting on Tuesday (5 July). The commission has in the past asked the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to clarify the nature and ratification process of a similar agreement, on trade relations with Singapore, but the case has been stuck in court since 2014.The decision on CETA is also likely to act as a precedent for the future EU-US trade deal, TTIP, that is currently being negotiated.

Greece has become a small problem' By Eric Maurice-july 5,16-euobserver

Prague/Brussels, Today, 14:26-At a press conference last Friday (1 July), neither European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker not Slovak prime minister Robert Fico, whose country now holds the EU presidency, uttered the name Greece. It was a sea change compared to a year ago, when, on 5 July 2015, 63 percent of Greek voters rejected a bailout plan proposed by its creditors in a referendum. The vote took place amid political tension in Greece, whose banks had been forced to impose capital controls, and intensified fears of a Grexit - a Greek exit from the eurozone or even from the EU.But an even more austere bailout than first proposed went through anyway a few days later, while each subsequent review, such as the last one, in May, added still harsher conditions.A year on, and for Greek political scientist Dimitri Sotiropoulos from the University of Athens: "Greece has a three-year window during which it can try to attract foreign investment, proceed with structural reforms and hopefully enjoy political stability”.The bailout programme runs until 2018 and the next general election in Greece is due in 2019.Sotiropoulos, who spoke to EUobserver in a recent interview at the Prague European Summit, a conference, said that Greece lost one year and a half to two years of time it could have spent fixing the economy on fighting its losing battle with the creditors - the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).-'Silent revolution'-He said the government of prime minister Alexis Tsipras “tried what was an unrealistic option to make European decision makers turn around”.He added that, if things go well, Greece "will soon hopefully come close to the point where we were towards the end of 2014," before Tsipras came to power. The most successful part of the current programme has been the reform of the banking sector, Sotiropoulos said.Four systemic banks - the National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank, Piraeus and Eurobank - were recapitalised last year and the Greek banks' presence in south-east Europe was preserved. The three other parts of the programme - fiscal consolidation, competitiveness of the Greek economy and reform of the public sector - have so far produced limited effects, Sotiropoulos said. The objective of a primary budget surplus (a surplus before payment of debt) of 3.5 percent in 2018 is "quite high," he noted, and has met with two obstacles.First, Sotiropoulos warned, "if the government continues to try to achieve fiscal consolidation mainly by increasing taxes, there will be a silent revolution of Greeks not paying their taxes anymore."In recent years, he said, the Greek tax system has been changed several times and tax hikes have "almost exclusively hit owners of real estate, regardless of the size of properties and of the salary strata".On one hand, Sotiropoulos said, "many Greeks are now really unable to contribute anymore". On the other hand, tax increases have not been accompanied by a plan to battle tax evasion.-'€500 salary is low enough'-As a consequence, many self-employed Greek people - a sector that represent more than a third of the labour force - can continue to avoid paying taxes.Sotiropoulos also said that tax policies applied to meet the fiscal target set by creditors would be "useless unless Greece obtain a small scale restructuring of its debt" from those creditors."Without [debt] relief, the problem will surface again and again," he said. The part of the bailout p[lan designed to enhance the competitiveness of the Greek economy also faces problems. In September, Sotiropoulos said, the Greek government and the creditors will start discussing a reform of the labour market to make it more flexible. The reform is "necessary," he said, but "wages and salaries have been slashed for the last six years and that didn't make the economy more competitive and provided no stimulus for foreign investment to come in.""We need a larger package which would not depress income," he said.He said that political instability, a "large and inefficient bureaucratic apparatus" and a "frequently changing legal framework," especially on tax and the justice system, have so far prevented the economy from rebounding."Relaxing the protection of workers and bringing down salaries will not make the economy more competitive," he said.Referring to the current salary of some young people in Greece, he added that "€500 [a month] is low enough to attract foreign capital".-Public sector-The reform of the public sector remains a crucial and difficult part of what Greece has to achieve under the bailout.Sotiropoulos said that reforms and salary cuts in recent years made many public sector voters turn to Tsipras’ left-wing Syriza party and its right-wing nationalist ally, Anel. That could prevent the government from making deep reforms for fear of losing their electorate, he said. But he said that the government should do "more to bring the minimum salary in the public sector on a par with minimum salary in the private sector, because the public sector is still very much attractive and that is not a fair policy option."He said that the government "needs to find ways to merge public services and to enforce mobility" because some parts of the public sector are now understaffed while others are overstaffed.Since the bailout agreement last summer and a snap election won in September, the legitimacy of Tsipras' government has been "shrinking," Sotiropoulos noted, especially because of the tax policies that it enforced. But "opposition is not united, not strong enough, it has not gotten rid of accusations that past policies had a tremendously negative impact on the middle and lower classes and it doesn't have a plan of reform," he said.In recent years, and ever more so more since last summer, Greek governments have been under creditors' oversight, but Greece's situation has not much improved.-Maverick behaviour-"After 2011-2012, creditors gave up and adapted to the Greek propensity to keep the public sector intact, to be very reluctant in reforms and to limit the austerity package to its financial aspect which is fiscal consolidation without changing Greece's economic model and public structures," Sotiropoulos said.

Now, he added, "creditors are not insisting enough on structural reforms".He noted that creditors do not completely agree with each other, but also that they do not really trust "a government that has behaved in maverick fashion" in the past.Compared to migration, terrorism and now Brexit, "Greece has become a small problem," he added.A year after Greeks refused austerity but were forced to accept an austere bailout anyway, their economic prospects are uncertain and will depend on the main players' will to act."Without serious attempts from the government to implement reforms and serious attempts from creditors to discuss some kind of public debt restructuring, we won't have hope after [the end of the bailout in] 2018," Sotiropoulos said.

Black Lives Matter flooded with hate mail following Toronto Pride Parade sit-in-[The Canadian Press]-Diana Mehta, The Canadian Press-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

TORONTO - An activist group that stalled Canada's largest Pride parade to demand more rights for racialized communities says it's being flooded with hate mail, some of it sent by members of the LGBTQ community.Black Lives Matter Toronto says the vitriol demonstrates the racism it is trying to combat with its actions. The group — a Canadian chapter of the a larger U.S. movement active in Toronto since late 2014 — caused a stir on Sunday when some of its members who were marching in the city's Pride Parade staged a sit-in — bringing the event to a halt for about half an hour. The parade resumed when Pride Toronto's executive director Mathieu Chantelois signed a list of demands that included more funding and better representation for racialized communities during Pride events, and a ban on police floats in future parades.Chantelois later told the media that he only signed the list of demands so he could get the parade moving again."The show and the parade had to go on," he told local TV station CP24, adding that he had only agreed to have a conversation about the issues raised by the group with his LGBTQ community.Ever since the sit-in, however, Black Lives Matter Toronto has been the target of vicious, racist emails, some from members of the larger LGBTQ community, said Janaya Khan, a co-founder of the group."Particularly our queer and trans members, myself included, we have received dozens and dozens and dozens since the action," said Khan. "I think that is testament to why we had to create an intervention into Pride in the first place."The hate mail, which is "100 per cent" made up of anti-black racism, denounces members of Black Lives Toronto who have identified as queer and trans, said Khan."It's 'You could never be a part of our community, you savage monkey,' that kind of thing," she said. "The reality is that gender and sexual diversity doesn't negate the reality of racism and white privilege...In their minds my blackness made it so that I couldn't possibly be a part of their community."The group is now focused on ensuring Pride Toronto follows through with the list of demands that was signed at the stalled parade."Whether or not our demands are seen through — and they will be seen through — the success that comes out of creating the type of dialogue that we've seen is monumental," said Khan."This type of push back, this type of backlash, it means that we've struck a nerve...It shouldn't have taken 30 plus years for Pride to really consider what would make black communities and racialized communities feel safer in Pride."Sunday's sit-in was just the latest in a series of actions taken by the group that has frequently accused Toronto police of racial profiling and violence against the black community.Last summer, a rally shut down a portion of a busy expressway as the group called for justice in the police shooting deaths of two black men. This March, members of the group camped out in front of Toronto police headquarters for two weeks, demanding an overhaul of Ontario's police watchdog and the release of the name of an officer who fatally shot a man last summer. The group has also been a vocal critic of the controversial practice of police carding, street checks which it said unfairly targeted young black, brown and indigenous people. The group's demand to ban police floats and booths from the Pride Parade and Pride community spaces appears to have emerged as its most contentious call since Sunday, but Khan said Black Lives Matter Toronto isn't seeking a meeting with police over the matter."We're not closed off to discussion and negotiation, but we do not at this point trust commitments that the police make to us directly," Khan explained. "We're going to move forward focusing on what the community wants from us."The group specified, as well, that its demand centred around police floats in particular, and would not prevent LGBTQ officers from being at the event if they wanted to."We believe they should not have police floats and we believe they should not be in uniform and they should not be armed," said Khan. "That type of police presence within the parade itself is inherently problematic and creates very exclusive space for police officers and excludes marginalized communities from participating in the parade."Pride Toronto said it hopes to gather feedback on this year's Pride events at a public town hall scheduled for August.

Different targets, different countries: The challenge of stopping Islamic State-[Reuters]-By Warren Strobel and John Walcott-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Deadly attacks in four countries linked to Islamic State show the limitations of U.S.-led efforts to loosen the group's grip in Syria and Iraq, and the challenge of stopping attacks that are not only globally dispersed but very different in their choice of targets, current and former U.S. officials said."Bombing the heck out of (Islamic State's capital) Raqqa is not going to stop this stuff," said Paul Pillar, a veteran CIA analyst now at Georgetown University. In recent months, Obama administration officials have frequently portrayed the group's deadly strikes worldwide as a direct response to the U.S.-led military coalition's success in ousting it from large tracts of Iraq and Syria. While that may be true in part, the current and former U.S. officials said, it is overly simplistic and understates how Islamic State's influence has spread beyond the territory it controls. The ultra-hardline Sunni Muslim group's recruiting and propaganda directed outside its self-proclaimed caliphate long predates its loss of key cities in Iraq such as, most recently, Falluja, U.S. officials said."Evidence has been growing for some time that ISIS has been expanding its outreach, recruiting and propaganda, both online and with emissaries, as the military and economic costs of maintaining, much less expanding, its original caliphate have become clear," said a U.S. official who closely watches militant Islamic groups. In its new guise, some analysts said, Islamic State is coming to more closely resemble al Qaeda, which has primarily focused on large-scale attacks rather than try to hold territory.Building and maintaining a caliphate has possibly been more expensive and complicated than Islamic State first realized, the U.S. official said.U.S. officials said they are still analyzing the links between Islamic State and a June 28 attack on Istanbul airport that killed 45 people; an attack on a cafe frequented by foreigners in Dhaka on Friday that killed 20 people; a suicide truck bombing in a mainly Shi'ite Baghdad neighborhood on Saturday that killed at least 175 people; and attacks in Saudi Arabia targeting U.S. diplomats, Shi'ite worshippers and a security office at a mosque in the holy city of Medina. All took place during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ends this week with the Eid al-Fitr feast.A U.S. official said the attacks in Turkey, Iraq and Saudi Arabia appear to have direct links to Islamic State. The one in Bangladesh may have been Islamic State-inspired but also have local roots, the official said.Intercepted Islamic State messages suggest targets to attack, including gathering places for non-Muslims and Shi'ite Muslims in predominantly Sunni areas, and government installations, another U.S. official said."There's a fair amount that falls somewhere in between inspiration and outright direction," this official said. "Call it suggestion."Counter-terrorism experts say there is no silver bullet that will stop strikes on civilians that are so globally dispersed and use methods of attack that range from single suicide bombers to massive truck bombs to hostage-taking."The challenge involved is, the action and initiative is coming from a lot of different places," said Georgetown's Pillar.Closer diplomatic cooperation, intelligence sharing and tracking money flows were crucial, he said."We've always made clear that the military campaign is not enough to defeat Daesh (Islamic State) or to remove the threat that it poses," State Department spokesman John Kirby said on Tuesday. "A holistic campaign that addresses the root causes of extremism is the only way to deliver a sustainable defeat.(Additional reporting by Mark Hosenball, Yara Bayoumy, Jonathan Landay and Arshad Mohammed; Editing by Ross Colvin)

Families of Iraq War dead hope British inquiry will criticize ex-PM Blair-[Reuters]-By Michael Holden-sJuly 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

LONDON (Reuters) - A British inquiry into the Iraq War delivers its long-awaited report on Wednesday, with critics of the U.S.-led invasion hoping it will condemn former Prime Minister Tony Blair while some families of slain soldiers fear it may be a whitewash. To be published seven years after the inquiry was set up when the last British combat troops left Iraq, the report runs to 2.6 million words - about three times the length of the Bible - and will include details of exchanges Blair had with then U.S. President George W. Bush over the 2003 invasion.Iraq remains in chaos to this day. Islamic State controls large areas of the country and 175 people died on Saturday in Baghdad's worst car bombing since the U.S.-led coalition toppled dictator Saddam Hussein. The inquiry's purpose was for the British government to learn lessons from the invasion and occupation that followed, in which 179 British soldiers died. But opponents of Blair's decision to join the war will be pouring over the report for its judgment on how the Labour leader, who quit in 2007, justified the military action. At the time, he said intelligence showed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction but after the invasion none was found."I was lied to. The media, the press, the families, parliament, everybody was lied to," Reg Keys, whose son was among the British fatalities and who stood as a candidate for parliament against Blair in the 2005 election, told Reuters TV.Blair has always rejected any suggestions he acted dishonestly, and a spokeswoman for him said she would not comment until the report was published. The inquiry, headed by former civil servant John Chilcot, looked at the reasons for the invasion, the war itself and the aftermath - and has taken longer to complete than the British military involvement itself.Public hearings, including two appearances by Blair, ended in 2011 but since then the writing of the report has been dogged by rows over the release of secret government files and the contacts between London and Washington. It will include details of notes from Blair to Bush and quotes from more than 130 records of their conversations.Critics believe Blair, who sent 45,000 British troops for the invasion, gave Bush an unconditional promise that Britain would join military action and that he then distorted intelligence to back this up and put pressure on government lawyers to give the invasion legal approval.Keys noted that Chilcot had said the inquiry would not play the blame game. "But I certainly hope it points the finger of accountability in the direction of the former prime minister who was the key player with all of this deceit," Keys said. However, he said he feared the report might be watered down as those facing criticism have been allowed to respond prior to publication.Chilcot played down this risk in a BBC TV interview on Tuesday. "I made very clear right at the start of the inquiry that if we came across decisions or behavior which deserved criticism then we wouldn't shy away from making it," he said."Indeed, there have been more than a few instances where we are bound to do that. We are not a court - not a judge or jury at work - but we've tried to apply the highest possible standards of rigorous analysis to the evidence where we make a criticism."His report is expected to be released sometime after 11 am (1000 GMT).-BLAIR'S APOLOGY-In an interview with CNN last October, Blair apologized that the pre-war intelligence had been wrong and for mistakes in planning, but not for getting rid of Saddam. He also accepted the war had played a role in the rise of Islamic State but it was far from the only factor."I've said many times over these past years, I'll wait for the report and then I will make my views known and express myself fully and properly," Blair told Sky News on Sunday.British media said lawmakers led by the Scottish National Party were considering invoking an ancient law, last used in 1806, to impeach Blair in parliament."You cannot have a situation where this country blunders into an illegal war with the appalling consequences and at the end of the day there isn't a reckoning," SNP lawmaker Alex Salmond told Sky News. The Sunday Times newspaper also reported that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn - whose own position is in jeopardy after Britain voted last month to leave the European Union - was simply hanging on because he wanted to "crucify Blair".(Editing by Guy Faulconbridge and David Stamp)

What went wrong? Bangladesh militant's father seeks answers-[Reuters]-By Aditya Kalra and Serajul Quadir-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

DHAKA (Reuters) - On the last Friday of Ramadan, Meer Hayet Kabir was hoping his son Meer Saameh Mubasheer, missing for the past four months, would come home. In Bangladesh, even kidnappers sometimes released hostages on a holy day.The 18-year-old did return to the capital Dhaka that night, but not to his father. Instead police believe he, along with at least four other gunmen, attacked an upscale restaurant in the city and murdered 20 people, mostly foreigners. Now he is dead, killed with his fellow assailants by police. On Tuesday, still in shock, Kabir was trying to make sense of what happened and what made the quiet, soft-spoken teenager give up a privileged life and loving home in one of Dhaka's upscale neighbourhoods to take up arms in the name of radical Islamism. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack."Something has gone wrong. Something has gone wrong," said Kabir, 53, holding back tears as he showed pictures from Mubasheer's 18th birthday in December on his iPad."I still don't want to believe my son has done it with his own, conscious mind," he told a small group of reporters who visited his home.It is a question many people in Bangladesh are asking after the attack on Friday, one of the most brazen in the South Asian nation's history and potentially damaging to its $26 billion (£20 billion) garment export industry. Most of the attackers were young like Mubasheer, went to some of the best schools and came from well-to-do families.Another suspected attacker, Nibras Islam, was around 22 and went to Monash University in Malaysia, where a bachelor's course costs nearly $9,000 a year, at least six times the average income in Bangladesh. As the stories of the militants emerge, they are challenging the popular narrative that poverty and illiteracy are the key ingredients in the making of a South Asian militant.Kabir, a telecoms executive, blamed Islamist groups in the country for luring his son away. Some people close to the family blamed it on the Internet, while Kabir thinks the smartphone he gave his son months before his disappearance might have been the way extremist groups reached him.He said that if such groups could radicalise someone who came from a loving family and was getting secular education at the elite Dhaka school Scholastica, no one should feel safe."We are a caring family," Kabir said. "If they can steal my son from my family, they can steal anybody's kid."H.T. Imam, political adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, told Reuters the attackers could not have acted alone and must have come in contact with radicals who influenced them. Imam said the militants' parents should also be investigated.-DINOSAURS, MOVIES-As a child, Kabir said his son was interested in dinosaurs and could memorize several of the animals' complicated names."His one speciality is that once he is interested in something he will get into details," Kabir said.During a visit to India around eight years ago, the family visited the city of Agra, home to the famous Taj Mahal. After that, Mubasheer became interested in history and started drawing pictures of Mughal emperor Akbar and Hindu Goddess Durga.Over the next few years, he also began to study Bangladesh's history, including its 1971 war of independence from Pakistan."He would buy independence war-related movies, dramas. That was his craze," Kabir said.Mubasheer was also fond of watching English films and cartoons. Occasionally he cooked food for himself and his father. In the months before his disappearance, Kabir said he noticed no visible change in his behaviour, other than that he stopped using Facebook and focussed more on studies.Family pictures at their spacious home, complete with tiled floors and a chandelier, depicted a normal childhood; in one, Mubasheer stands with his elder brother and plays a synthesizer. But his "mental growth was slow," Kabir said."His classmates also noticed it. They would say he was a Mamma's boy. He would not like it."Other than hobbies, Mubasheer was always interested in religion. His father advised him to use the right sources for learning about the subject when he gave him an English version of the Koran."Sometimes he would say he wants to become an accountant, sometimes he would say theology or sociology," Kabir said.Inside Mubasheer's small bedroom, a photograph of the Koran hung on a wall behind his bed, next to a study table that was covered with books on business studies, accounting and TOEFL, an English language test.Mubasheer would usually pray five times a day and visit a nearby mosque.Kabir has yet to go and identify the body believed to be that of his son."I am hoping a miracle happens, that he is not one of these guys."(Writing by Aditya Kalra; Editing by Paritosh Bansal and Mike Collett-White)

Trump takes potential VP running mates for test drives-[Reuters]-By Steve Holland-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Donald Trump is taking some of his potential vice presidential running mates out for a test drive this week, meeting in private and trotting them out in public as he seeks to make his choice before the Republican National Convention less than two weeks away.Republicans close to the campaign say Trump and his team are considering announcing his running mate pick next week ahead of the convention, to be held July 18-21 in Cleveland, to try to get maximum media buzz from the decision. As his aides vet the people on his short list, Trump is getting an up-close look at some of the candidates and talking about it publicly, dispensing with the usual tradition of keeping secret the process of choosing a running mate.Trump, who is to be formally nominated at the convention as the Republican candidate for the Nov. 8 election, met privately on Tuesday with one possible pick, U.S. Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, at Trump Tower in New York. On Tuesday night, the two appeared together at a Trump rally in Raleigh, North Carolina.Trump introduced Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as "a great friend of mine, somebody respected by everybody." Then it was Corker's turn."I’ve figured out the reason why you love him so much," the senator told the crowd. "The reason you love him so much is because he loves you. He loves you and he wants the best for you."On Wednesday, Trump is to be joined for an event in Cincinnati by Newt Gingrich, a former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives who is another possible pick by Trump for the No. 2 position. Gingrich has been a close Trump adviser and is well regarded at Trump Tower. On Monday, Trump met on Monday with U.S. Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa, another candidate on his short list.Others on Trump's running mate list include Indiana Governor Mike Pence, who Trump met with on Saturday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama. Christie, a former Trump rival for the Republican nomination, and Sessions are among Trump's earliest supporters in the party and closest advisers.(Editing by Jonathan Oatis and Leslie Adler)

Canada Post issues 72-hour lockout notice; work stoppage possible Friday-[The Canadian Press]-Jordan Press, The Canadian Press-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

OTTAWA - The federal government will stay out of a looming work stoppage at Canada Post for now, putting the onus on the corporation and its largest union to come to an agreement quickly before the mail stops being delivered.Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday that his government is not considering back-to-work legislation right away, a change from the former Conservative government's decision to follow that path in the immediate aftermath of a lockout in 2011.Trudeau did leave the door open to government involvement if there is a prolonged work stoppage at Canada Post, saying the Liberals didn't feel it was the "immediate responsibility" of governments "to be heavy-handed" in labour disputes."We are a government that believes in good faith negotiations that happen at the bargaining table. That is where these discussions need to be worked out," Trudeau said in Montreal. The federal NDP called the Liberal position in the labour dispute disappointing, saying the government was following the same path the Conservatives took in 2011. The party's labour critics said the Liberals have broken election promises to "end the Conservative-style attempts to discredit and disrupt our postal service."A halt in postal services could come as early as Friday if Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Works cannot work out a new collective bargaining agreement for the approximately 50,000 rural and urban mail carriers in the country. In a statement early Tuesday, Canada Post said it plans to suspend the collective agreement as of Friday. It blamed prolonged negotiations, the union's strike mandate and the financial cost of a rapid decline in mail volume.Canada Post said the 72-hour notice delivered to the union does not necessarily mean it will shut down on Friday.Rather, it said, the announcement would allow the Crown corporation to "take measures that are necessary to respond to the changing business reality."For the union, that means its workers are being threatened with a lockout, as CUPW has vowed to not go on strike and stay at the bargaining table.Canada Post said its latest offer presented on June 25 was fair and reasonable and that it still hoped to negotiate a deal with the union. The union wants to see a pay increase for its rural, mostly female carriers, who earn 28 per cent less than their urban, mostly male, counterparts to address what CUPW sees as a pay equity issue.Canada Post has said CUPW's demands are "not affordable" and would add $1 billion in costs over the life of a new contract as the postal service undergoes a review of operations, including the move away from door-to-door delivery.CUPW national president Mike Palecek said the Crown corporation turned in a nearly $100-million profit last year and appears to be on track for bigger profits in 2016, although Canada Post has not opened its books to the union."We know we're dealing with an unscrupulous employer. They have no problem lying to the public and they have been untruthful about the real financial situation facing Canada Post for years," Palecek told a news conference in Ottawa.Canada Post spokesman Jon Hamilton called Palecek's claims ridiculous and uncalled for. He said the Crown corporation regularly puts out audited financial statements and figures that the union regularly questions."Just because the union doesn't want to agree with the numbers doesn't make them not true," he said.He said the Crown corporation isn't planning to lock out workers and wants to negotiate a new deal.A lockout would mean a halt to delivery of mail and parcels, and Canada Post wouldn't accept any new items to send domestically or abroad. That has left companies fretting about what the impact could be on their business, school workers in Quebec hastily stuffing envelopes with report cards, and the federal government setting up contingency plans. The Crown corporation and its union have agreed to keep delivering social benefits like old age security, Canada Pension Plan, the working income tax benefit, and the Liberals' vaunted new Canada Child Benefit, which is set to be delivered for the first time this month. The payments will be delivered on the 20th of the month. The majority of those payments aren't done through the mail. Employment and Social Development Canada said about 95 per cent of employment insurance payments, 96 per cent of CPP payments, and almost 98 per cent of old age security payments are done through direct deposit.Employment insurance recipients who haven't or can't sign up for direct deposit can contact Service Canada at 1-800-206-7218 to ask for a cheque that can be picked up at the nearest Service Canada location.

Oil tumbles, loonie and stocks fall amid more Brexit worries-[CBC]-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

The price of benchmark North American oil retreated almost five per cent Tuesday, while the loonie dropped by almost a cent and stocks tumbled as investors fretted about the British financial system. The price for the August contract for light sweet crude was down $2.39 US to settle at $46.60 US per barrel. After triple-digit losses earlier in the trading session, the S&P/TSX composite index ultimately finished down 39.30 points at 14,219.57. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average shed 108.75 points, closing at 17,840.62, after the July Fourth holiday. The broader S&P 500 closed at 2,088.55, down 14.40 points, while the Nasdaq composite index fell 39.67 points to hit 4,822.90.The drops came as more concerns emerged about the British economy in the wake of the recent vote to quit the European Union. On Tuesday, a trio of U.K. real estate funds halted trading amid a rush of redemptions. In addition, Bank of England governor Mark Carney loosened capital rules to allow banks to lend more to businesses and households."There's just so many unanswered questions both from the legal standpoint, a diplomatic standpoint, an economic standpoint," said Tom di Galoma, managing director at Seaport Global Holdings. On currency markets, the loonie traded lower. The Canadian dollar was down by 0.95 of a cent at 76.83 cents US.The British pound fell to $1.3029 US from $1.3259 US, hitting its lowest since the Brexit vote and the weakest in 31 years.Meanwhile, investors sought safety in gold. The price for gold futures for August closed at $1,358.70 US per ounce, up $19.70 on the day.

North Korea sends 'state-sponsored slaves' to Europe - rights group-[By Emma Batha]-July 5, 2016-YAHOONEWS

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - North Korea has sent hundreds of workers to labour as "state-sponsored slaves" in EU nations as Pyongyang seeks to circumvent international sanctions aimed at starving it of money over its nuclear weapons programme, rights campaigners said on Wednesday.North Korean labourers commonly work 10-12 hour shifts, six days a week, but up to 90 percent of their pay is sent back to the hermit state, according to the European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea (EAHRNK).Most are working in Polish shipyards, construction sites and farms. North Koreans are also employed in leisure and clothing firms in Malta, and have worked in other EU countries, it said. The North Korean embassy in Warsaw denied workers were deprived of pay."This is all nonsense," said an official, declining to give his name. "Nobody is taking (their salaries), they work and make money for themselves."But campaigners say North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's regime is using overseas labour to earn much needed foreign currency to offset the impact of U.N. sanctions, which were expanded in March after a nuclear test on Jan. 6 and a Feb. 7 rocket launch.EAHRNK director Michael Glendinning said Pyongyang was "in full control and benefiting hugely".A U.N. report last year estimated there were over 50,000 North Koreans working abroad, earning the state $1.2 billion to $2.3 billion annually, although some experts question these figures. Most are labouring in Russia and China. Others are working in African countries and on construction sites in the Middle East, including in Qatar which is preparing to host the 2022 World Cup.But EU countries are more attractive for North Korea because wages are higher, Glendinning said.-FAMILIES HELD "HOSTAGE"-The conditions faced by North Korean workers in Poland will be revealed in a report due to be published on Wednesday by LeidenAsiaCentre in the Netherlands.Researchers used testimonies from North Korean labourers in and outside the EU, field research in Poland and data from governments and other sources to compile the study.Earlier this year, LeidenAsiaCentre detailed the case of a North Korean welder who died from 95 percent burns in an accident at a Polish shipyard in 2014. Investigations showed the clothing supplied to him by his Polish employers was flammable.Campaigners say the welder had been working over 70 hours a week without proper remuneration.North Koreans do not have proper contracts or payslips, must surrender their passports and face restrictions in their movements, Glendinning said. They are also kept under surveillance and have to participate in ideological study sessions."What we're seeing is a mini-Pyongyang being exported. They are literally sending their human rights abuses to the EU and we're tolerating it," he added.Poland issued 2,783 work permits for North Koreans between 2008 and 2015, according to the LeidenAsiaCentre which has linked 32 Polish companies to their employment.Glendinning said Poland stopped issuing new visas for North Korean workers this year.Campaigners say North Koreans are vetted closely before being sent overseas to minimise the risk of defection."They only select workers who are married and have children - hostage-taking essentially," Glendinning said."If they were to defect the family would likely face some kind of punishment in a political prison camp, a re-education camp or - in extreme cases - execution."There has been one defection in Poland and possibly a few elsewhere, he said.A recent documentary by Vice News shows footage of North Korean labourers in Polish shipyards and on construction sites, but workers approached by the filmmakers declined to talk. One North Korean who escaped while working in Russia told them his family had been "destroyed" after his defection.Campaigners do not want North Koreans deported to non-EU countries where conditions could be worse, but say firms must ensure they enjoy the same rights and pay as other workers. The 2016 Global Slavery Index estimates almost 46 million people are living as slaves globally. North Korea ranks worst for prevalence, with one in 20 people thought to be in some form of modern slavery.(Additional reporting by Magda Mis. Palestinian Authority said to sever ties with the Quartet-Ramallah has had enough of the international group’s ‘pro-Israel’ bias, reflected in its latest report, London-based daily says-By Dov Lieber July 5, 2016, 1:43 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

The Palestinian Authority has decided to cut ties with the Middle East Quartet, Arab media reported on Tuesday. The London-based pan-Arab newspaper Al Hayat reported that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas decided to stop working with the Quartet — the United States, European Union, Russia and the United Nations — following a series of disappointments in Ramallah in the group’s work.Abbas reportedly informed the central committees of both the Palestinian Liberation Organization and his party Fatah of the decision. The decision was confirmed to the paper by Fatah Central Committee member Mohammed Ashtiya. The Quartet on Friday released a long-awaited report on the peace process, which, for the first time in a major international forum, cited Palestinian incitement against Israel as a major obstacle to ending the conflict. The report accused Hamas and Fatah of encouraging terror attacks against Israelis. It also criticized Israel’s settlement building, and its demolition of Palestinian homes and confiscation of land, saying those policies were “steadily eroding the viability of the two-state solution.”PLO secretary general Saeb Erekat, who is also the lead Palestinian negotiator, expressed disappointment that the report criticized both sides rather than only Israel.“It does not meet our expectations as a nation living under a foreign colonial military occupation,” he said, and criticized what he called the report’s attempt “to equalize the responsibilities between a people under occupation and a foreign military occupier.”On Monday, Erekat told journalists that Abbas would send a letter to the Quartet members to the effect that negotiations could not resume without a full cessation of settlement building — including in East Jerusalem — indicating that the reported decision to cut ties with the group wound not have been made until later that day.In 2015, Abbas stopped meeting with former Quartet envoy Tony Blair, reportedly because he considered the former British prime minister biased toward Israel.A senior Palestinian official told Al Hayat that the US has the “upper hand” in the Quartet, “the UN does not have any power, the European Union doesn’t have a unified voice,” and though Russia is “a friend to the Palestinians,” Moscow often comes to understandings with Washington over the region.Ashtiya, the Fatah Central Committee member, told the paper that though the PA would cease working with the Quartet, it would still work individually with each of its members. Ashtiya added that Ramallah is still working through the French peace initiative — a regional approach to bringing an end to the conflict — to end settlement-building and create a clear time frame for the establishment of a Palestinian state.Israel has rejected the French initiative, saying only direct bilateral negotiations would be effective.Israel also slammed the Quartet report. A statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the report only “perpetuates the myth that Israeli construction in the West Bank is an obstacle to peace. When Israel froze settlements (between 2009-10), it did not get peace.”

Half of Israeli Jews oppose West Bank withdrawal — poll-Overall support tilts in favor of pullout if peace achieved; over 40% want only Jews to vote on withdrawal referendum-By Times of Israel staff July 5, 2016, 2:00 pm

If a referendum were held today on an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank excluding major settlement blocs, a majority of Jews, 52 percent, would vote against such a withdrawal, according to a major poll of Israeli public opinion.Just over one-third of Israeli Jews, or 36%, would support a withdrawal “in principle,” according to the June 2016 Peace Index, a monthly study of Israelis’ views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, among other issues. The figures are reversed among Arab Israelis, with fully 69% saying they would support a withdrawal “today,” and 24% opposing it.Across the entire Israeli population, opposition to a withdrawal in the current situation enjoys a plurality of 48% to 41%.But given a peace agreement between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority, the answers shift in favor of withdrawal. Jewish views tilt toward near parity, with 46% opposed to withdrawal and 43% in favor. Among Arabs, support for withdrawal reaches over 76%.Though the Jewish vote tilts slightly against withdrawal in the case of a peace agreement, Israel’s population overall would favor (49% to 41%) a withdrawal if it were conducted in the context of a peace agreement.A significant minority of Jews (44%) believe that only Jewish citizens of the state should be allowed to vote in a referendum on withdrawal. A majority, 51%, believe all Israelis should vote.Meanwhile, fully 65% of Arabs say they are “sure” a referendum is desirable if there is progress in peace talks, three times as many as the 22% of Jews who say they are “sure.”Majorities on both sides are either “sure” or “think” a referendum is desirable, with 59% of Jews and 73% of Arabs preferring a referendum “if, in the future, there were to be progress in talks with the Palestinians leading to a draft peace agreement that would be acceptable to the Israeli government,” according to the study’s authors, Ephraim Yaar and Tamar Hermann, professors at Tel Aviv University who run the peace index project for the Israel Democracy Institute. The study found that Arabs and Jews have very different hopes but similar expectations on the question of the future of the West Bank.Asked what their preferred outcome would be — with the option of a peace settlement excluded from the question — Arabs and Jews offered sharply differing answers, with one-third of Arabs supporting international intervention to push Israel out of the West Bank and one-third of Jews favoring a West Bank annexation without granting equal rights to Palestinians living there. The situation should remain as it is: 23% of Jews, 33% of Arabs-The international community should force Israel to withdraw to the 1967 lines: Jews 12%, Arabs 34%-Israel should annex the West Bank and give equal rights to Palestinians living there: Jews 19%, Arabs 26%-Israel should annex the West Bank but not give equal rights to Palestinians living there: Jews 32%, Arabs 3%-Those preferences — as long as peace isn’t on the table — aren’t necessarily what Israeli think will happen. Asked to predict what they expect for the future, Jews and Arabs give similar answers, with a large plurality of both saying the situation will remain as it is.The situation will remain as it is: 38% of Jews, 45% of Arabs-The international community will force Israel to withdraw to the 1967 lines: Jews 20%, Arabs 23%-Israel will annex the West Bank and give equal rights to Palestinians living there: Jews 9%, Arabs 9%-Israel will annex the West Bank but not give equal rights to Palestinians living there: Jews 20%, Arabs 15%-The study also found that Arab Israelis are far more likely to visit in the West Bank than Jews.Four percent of Israeli Jews say they are settlers in a West Bank settlement, with another 14% saying they have family members there. Yet over 52% of Jews said they have not visited or traveled in the West Bank in the past five years. Just 14% say they travel there regularly. Among Arab Israelis, fully 34% say they travel often to the West Bank. The survey was conducted June 28-29 by phone by the Midgam Research Institute. It queried 500 Jews and 100 Arabs “who constitute a representative national sample of the entire adult population of Israel aged 18 and over,” according to a press release. It carries a margin of error of ±4.1% at a confidence level of 95%.

Oil spill in Haifa Bay forces beach closures-Ship hits underwater pipeline during maintenance work to remove old infrastructure-By Stuart Winer July 5, 2016, 3:36 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

An oil spill Tuesday polluted Haifa Bay after a ship hit an old fuel supply line, pouring hundreds of gallons of oil into the water. The current carried the slick toward the shore and northward, prompting the closure of beaches in Haifa and the surrounding area as emergency crews worked to contain and clean the spill. In a statement, the Environmental Protection Ministry said it was the leak was “several cubic meters” in size and was not “very large.”Kiryat Yam, which lies directly north of Haifa, was expected to be worst-hit by the leak, the ministry said. The Health Ministry issued a warning against bathing in the sea along the Haifa coast and nearby beaches.Haifa, home to Israel’s largest seaport, is also center of chemical production plants and oil refineries. The spill happened during maintenance work to replace old pipelines operated by the Petroleum and Energy Infrastructures company.“In cooperation with, and under the instructions of, the Environmental Protection Ministry, the company is removing old fuel lines from the sea,” the company said in a statement. “During the work, a flexible pipe was hit and oil spilled into the sea.”It said that, in view of the high chance of a leak occurring, an emergency team had already been on standby together with suitable equipment to deal with a spill, and that the group immediately attended to the problem.“The pipe has been physically blocked so that the leak stopped and most of the fuel was collected,” the company said. The sea protection non-government organization Zalul said the incident should serve as a warning that Israel is not suitably prepared to deal with a major oil spill, Channel 2 reported.“Israel is about to renew the permits for oil and gas drilling, but is not ready to deal with leaks at sea,” Zalul said. “This is a warning sign that testifies to the need to fast-track a law that demands preparation for an emergency with highly skilled professionals, emergency equipment, and adequate budgeting.”

Teen injured in drive-by terror attack released from hospital-Tehila Mark, 14, whose father was killed by Palestinian gunman in shooting, goes home in stable condition-By Times of Israel staff July 5, 2016, 5:26 pm

A teenage girl who was moderately injured in a drive-by terror attack last week in which her father was killed and her mother critically injured, was released from the hospital Tuesday.Tehila Mark, 14, was allowed home from Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. She was said to be in a good and stable condition.Rabbi Miki Mark was driving with his wife and two children on Route 60 south of the West Bank city of Hebron Friday when suspected Palestinian terrorists opened fire on them. The gunfire caused the car to spin out of control and overturn, killing the father of 10.Tehila’s mother Chava Mark was seriously injured in the incident. Tehila and her 15-year-old brother Pedaya were also injured, though Pedaya was not hospitalized. On Sunday, Chava Mark, an Israeli who also holds American citizenship, was brought out of a medically induced coma and resumed breathing independently. As her husband was laid to rest in Jerusalem, Chava came to for the first time since the terror attack. The hospital described her condition as stable.Tehila, who sustained moderate injuries in the shooting, was allowed to leave the hospital by ambulance to attend her father’s burial at the Har Hamenuhot cemetery.A relative read out her eulogy to her father which she was unable to give herself.“We will be strong for you, because I know that’s what you would want,” Tehila said. “God took you because he needs more righteous people. Watch over us from above.”An initial investigation indicated the terrorists passed the Marks’ car with their vehicle near the settlement of Beit Hagai, south of Hebron, then opened fire at them. Officials said over 20 bullet holes were found in the car.On Saturday, the IDF arrested several suspects in the Hebron area as part of the hunt for those responsible for the attack, which was the second deadly assault in the area in as many days.

Court rules Ethiopian-Israeli rabbis were discriminated against-State ordered to pay religious leaders damages and back pay, after they received lower wages for years-By Stuart Winer July 5, 2016, 1:11 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

The Beersheba Regional Labor Court on Monday ordered the state to compensate Ethiopian-Israeli rabbis and religious leaders, ruling that they were discriminated against for years by the religious councils on which they serve.Concluding a trial that lasted eight years, the court said each of the 16 plaintiffs should receive NIS 50,000 ($13,000) in damages because they had been paid less well than their non-Ethiopian counterparts and were denied some of their employment rights, Army Radio reported. The court ruled that Ethiopian rabbis and kesim — community priests — are entitled to wages equal to those paid to other neighborhood rabbis. In addition to the compensatory damages, the state was ordered to retroactively pay the rabbis for the difference in wages they had not received during their years of employment. In summing up, the judges noted that “neither the state nor the religious councils presented any evidence regarding the existence of sufficient practical reasons to justify the difference between the wages of the plaintiffs and other neighborhood rabbis’ wages.”Three of the plaintiffs were also told they were entitled to pension plans, which they had not received since they started work. The rabbis’ legal representative, attorney Alex Spinrad, said, “The ruling shows that a stubborn stand on rights, like the one they valiantly took, can sometimes end with a great victory.”Jewish religious services in Israel are provided by rabbis who answer to the state-controlled Chief Rabbinate.Last month the Religious Affairs Ministry temporarily extended the tenure of the chief rabbi of Israel’s Ethiopian community after he was said to be facing dismissal over having protested the Chief Rabbinate’s alleged discrimination against Jews of Ethiopian descent.Reports of the firing of Rabbi Yosef Hadane had drawn criticism, including from Education Minister Naftali Bennett.Issues of alleged discrimination against Israeli-Ethiopians have been raised in other matters, including that of police brutality toward members of the community. On Sunday hundreds of protesters took to central Tel Aviv to demonstrate over police brutality, a year after similar protests resulted in some of the most intense clashes the city has ever seen. Twelve Ethiopian-Israeli protesters were arrested but later released without charges. Many of the protesters were seen wearing shirts and carrying signs demanding justice for Yosef Salamsa, an Ethiopian-Israeli man who committed suicide in 2014, allegedly as a result of police abuse. Earlier this year, investigators announced the criminal investigation into Salamsa’s death would be closed after no evidence of criminal conduct by police officers was uncovered.Salamsa was found dead in a quarry in the northern city of Binyamina in July 2014. Police determined he had committed suicide. Ethiopian-Israeli community activists said Salamsa was the victim of repeated abuse by officers, a factor that may have contributed to his suicide.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

Kenya president vows to help Israel strengthen Africa ties-Hosting Netanyahu in Nairobi, Uhuru Kenyatta promises to back Israeli bid to regain observer status in African Union, says warmer relations vital in war against terrorism-By Raphael Ahren July 5, 2016, 3:29 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

NAIROBI, Kenya – Fourteen years after Israel was booted out, Kenya is backing Israel’s bid to regain observer status at the African Union, the country’s president announced Tuesday.“We believe that there is need for us as a continent once again to reengage Israel on a more positive basis, with an understanding that our partnership can help make this world that much more secure,” President Uhuru Kenyatta said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Nairobi State House.“This is something that Kenya will continue to push, to see how Israel can regain her observer position at the African Union. I believe that this is not just good for Kenya. It is good for Africa. It is good for global peace. It is good for partnership,” said the president.Strengthened Israel-African cooperation is important for both sides, Kenyatta went on, adding that while some countries on the continent have had tense relations with the Jewish state, current global challenges obligate African countries to reassess their position.“We think that the world has changed,” the Kenyan president said. “Global problems that we now share are different than what they were some 30 years ago. And we need to partner with each other. We need to deal with the security threats we have together.”Israel was kicked out of the African Union in 2002 at the behest of Libya. Recent efforts to have Israel rejoin the group failed, due to objections from South Africa and others. The AU, based in Addis Ababa and currently comprising 54 African countries, is an organization dedicated to promoting cooperation among its members. The single biggest challenge facing not just Kenya and Africa but the entire world, said Kenyatta, is terrorism committed by “deranged people who believe in no religion.”“It would be foolhardy for one to sit back and say that, faced with those challenges, Kenya and Africa cannot engage in Israel in this particular issue. That’s like an ostrich burying its head in the sand,” he declared.Kenyatta went on: “The importance is not for Israel to be recognized by the African Union. (Rather), it is critical for us to be able to partner with all those who see this as a challenge and with whom we share a common position… That’s why I strongly believe it is critical for us to reevaluate our relations with the State of Israel, given the challenges we on the African continent especially are faced with today.”Netanyahu, who is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to visit Kenya, thanked Kenyatta for advocating Israel’s return to the union, saying the president’s words were “very important.”Regaining observer status at the African Union “has very great significance for us,” Netanyahu said. “Africa is a continent with 54 countries. The possibility of changing their position and their attitude toward Israel is a strategic change in Israel’s international standing.”The nascent African-Israel rapprochement is already resonating on the continent, the prime minister added, “but it will have a very big resonance in the future of Israel’s international relations in our effort to make a very large number of countries support Israel.”In their remarks, both Kenyatta and Netanyahu mentioned Kenya’s role in Israel’s Operation Entebbe 40 years ago.“As a country, we stood with Israel both in practice and in principle,” the Kenyan leader said, recalling that “many of our people were subsequently killed in Uganda by Idi Amin as a result of the support that we gave.”After terrorists hijacked an Air France plane to Entebbe, Uganda, in June 1976, Israeli special forces launched a spectacular rescue operation. On their way back from Entebbe, the Israeli plane landed in Kenya to refuel.“We remember Kenya’s assistance in the rescue mission in Entebbe,” Netanyahu said, a day after he marked the rescue — at which his brother Yonatan, head of the Sayeret Matkal commando team that carried out the operation, was the only Israeli military fatality — at a ceremony at Entebbe airport. “Our pilots landed here afterwards, and in retrospect we know that was not merely an act to save innocent Israeli hostages, but it was an act that dealt a devastating blow to international terror at the time.”Read: How Kenya played a vital, silent role in Entebbe, ‘the most audacious hostage rescue in history’Today, though, said Netanyahu, “we are engaged in the resurfacing of a new form of terrorism that threatens all our countries. And we must join forces.”Earlier Tuesday, Netanyahu laid a wreath at the grave of Kenya’s founder, Yoma Kenyatta, the current president’s father. After their press conference, Netanyahu and Kenyatta were scheduled to attend a forum of African and Israeli businessmen.Nairobi is the second stop on Netanyahu’s historic four-country visit to East Africa, which started Monday in Entebbe. On Wednesday he will visit Rwanda before wrapping up his trip in Ethiopia.

Somalia’s president recently held first-ever meeting with Israeli PM-More talks expected soon, says official close to President Mohamud, leader of East African Muslim country that never recognized Jewish state-By Raphael Ahren July 5, 2016, 3:29 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

NAIROBI, Kenya – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently met with the president of Somalia in a first high-level contact between the two countries, a source close to the Somali leader told The Times of Israel.Israel does not have diplomatic relations with the East African nation, which has a population of some 11 million. Somalia, a mostly Sunni Muslim country and a member of the Arab League, has never recognized the State of Israel. Two weeks ago, a report on the Caasimada Online, a news website operated by journalists opposed to the Somali regime, stated that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and three other Somali officials came to Tel Aviv on a short visit and met there with Netanyahu and other Israeli officials.A senior official close to Mohamud confirmed to The Times of Israel that the meeting took place, though the official could not say whether it was held in Tel Aviv.Another meeting between the two leaders is planned for the near future, the senior official said. The source said there was also a lower-level official meeting in Jerusalem in December, involving representatives from the Israeli economy ministry and officials from Somalia.Mohamud, who took office in 2012, is considered by some to be a reformer. In 2013, he was featured in Time magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. “The leader of Somalia’s first constitutional government in 20 years, President Mohamud symbolizes an increasingly confident Africa that is shedding its long history of strife and moving toward greater stability and prosperity,” Rwandan President Paul Kagame wrote at the time.Israeli officials on Tuesday refused to comment on the matter. Foreign Ministry Director-General Dore Gold said he could neither confirm or deny it.Netanyahu is currently on a tour through four countries in Eastern Africa, including Kenya and Ethiopia, which borders Somalia.

Turkey rules out Egypt thaw despite diplomatic blitz-Erdogan, irked at Cairo’s crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood, says ‘context’ is different from Israel, Russia-By AFP July 5, 2016, 4:38 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

ANKARA, Turkey — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday ruled out a reconciliation with Egypt, despite a diplomatic blitz that has seen Ankara mend fences with Russia and Israel.Ties between Turkey and Egypt ruptured in 2013 after the military ousted elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi, a close ally of Erdogan’s AKP government.Observers had suggested a rapprochement may be on the cards after last week saw Turkey restore ties with Russia and Israel following bitter diplomatic rows, seeking to boost trade and shore up its regional clout. But Erdogan said Tuesday that a thaw with Egypt’s “oppressive regime” should not be expected any time soon.“The context with Egypt is different from the approaches undertaken with Russia and Israel,” the Turkish strongman told journalists in comments cited by Dogan news agency. He stressed that Turkey’s dispute was with Egypt’s government, not its people, and repeated his condemnation of the crackdown on Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood.“Sentences handed down to Morsi and his friends have been based on fabrications,” he said.“These people are our brothers, we cannot accept these decisions by an oppressive regime.”Erdogan has previously condemned the “coup” against Morsi, and in a show of solidarity at rallies he often uses a four-finger hand gesture known as “Rabia” — seen as a symbol of the Muslim Brotherhood.Saudi Arabia, an increasingly close Turkish ally that is one of the main backers of Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, is keen to see the two nations reconcile.
