Aug, 09:17-Russian and Nato drills indicate they are “preparing for a possible confrontation”, in a political climate which risks accidental war, a British think tank warns.The European Leadership Network (ELN), a London-based NGO, profiled a massive Russian exercise in March and a smaller Nato drill, called Allied Shield, in June.The Russian manoeuvres saw soldiers wake up on 16 March to orders which eventually drew in 80,000 servicemen.Russian airborne troops simulated an invasion of Latvia supported by attack helicopters and artillery, while its Baltic Sea fleet carried out search and destroy missions and air defence operations.Its Northern Fleet, based in the Barents Sea, conducted similar exercises, supported by strategic bombers and fighter jets.Its Black Sea Fleet carried out anti-submarine sweeps. 6 August 2015, Hiroshima/ Geneva (IFRC/ICRC) – Seventy years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japanese Red Cross Society hospitals are still treating thousands of survivors for long-term health effects, with nearly two-thirds of deaths among them due to cancer."Even after so many decades, we continue to see the catastrophic health impact from the use of nuclear weapons on these two cities," said ICRC President Peter Maurer. "What more compelling argument could there be for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons, especially as most of the bombs in the arsenals of nuclear armed states today are more powerful and destructive?"With nearly 200,000 survivors still alive it is expected that many thousands will continue to need care for radiation related illnesses in the coming years, while the psychological impact of the bombings continues to haunt even those survivors not physically ill."This commemoration is a reminder of the indiscriminate humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons," said Tadateru Konoé, the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies who is representing the Movement at Peace Memorial Ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Aug, 19:18-The memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreed by the Greek government and creditors on Tuesday (11 August) sets out a very constraining roadmap for Greece in exchange for a new bailout, the amount of which is yet to be decided.The 29-page document, which was leaked to media on Wednesday, requires wide-ranging and specific reforms to be implemented according to a precise timetable.The document, if it is endorsed by the Eurogroup, which will take place on Friday (14 August) in Brussels, and then ratified by eurozone countries, will leave very little room for manoeuvre for Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras.A set of prior actions will have to be voted by the Greek parliament, probably on Thursday, as a condition for the Eurogroup to endorse the deal.Prior actions include pension, tax and healthcare reforms, a strategy to address the issue of non-performing loans, reform of the gas market, and implementation of an already-agreed privatisation programme.By the end of August, the creditors ask the Greek government to "finalise a comprehensive strategy for the financial system which has deteriorated markedly since end-2014”.-Ownership-The Greek government will then be required to implement reforms with deadlines almost every month until autumn next year, under close control by its creditors - the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."Success requires ownership of the reform agenda programme by the Greek authorities," the MoU says in its preamble.It adds that the Greek government must "stand ready to take any measures that may become appropriate for this purpose as circumstances change”."The government commits to consult and agree with the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund on all actions relevant for the achievement of the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding before these are finalised and legally adopted”, the document says.Concerning the banking and financial sector, the MoU specifies that "no unilateral fiscal or other policy actions will be taken by the authorities, which would undermine the liquidity, solvency, or future viability of the banks"."All measures, legislative or otherwise, taken during the programme period, which may have an impact on banks' operations, solvency, liquidity, asset quality etc. should be taken in close consultation with the EC/ECB/IMF and where relevant the ESM”, it adds, referring to the European Stability Mechanism, the eurozone fund which will furnish a large part of the bailout.-Primary budget-In the meantime, the creditors are careful to say "the recovery strategy takes into account the need for social justice and fairness, both across and within generations"."Fiscal constraints have imposed hard choices, and it is therefore important that the burden of adjustment is borne by all parts of society and taking into account the ability to pay”.The MoU identifies four pillars on which it builds the bailout programme strategy: "restoring fiscal sustainability", "safeguarding financial stability", "growth, competitiveness, and investment", and "a modern state and public administration"."Success will require the sustained implementation of agreed policies over many years," it warns, with the bailout programme to cover the years 2015 to 2018.In order to achieve the designed strategy, the Greek government is required to achieve a primary budget with a deficit of 0.25 percent of GDP this year, with a surplus of 0.5 percent in 2016, 1.75 percent in 2017, and 3.5 percent in 2018.The target is lower than the 1 percent target outlined in previous discussions in June.At the time, the EU expected 0.5 percent growth of the Greek economy this year.But according to EU sources quoted by the AFP news agency Wednesday, the Greek economy is now expected to shrink by 2.3 percent this year, and 1.3 percent in 2016.To meet these targets in a downgraded environment, the Greek government is required to adopt next October "a supplementary 2015 budget as needed, the draft 2016 budget and a 2016–19 medium-term fiscal strategy, supported by a sizable and credible package of parametric measures and structural fiscal reforms”.Reforms-The measures will include further pension reforms, tax reforms to increase revenue, as well as the extension, until 2018, of a special contribution from Greece's shipping sector, and the reduction of military spending by €100 million in 2015 and €400 million in 2016.In addition, the Greek government will have to take "credible structural measures", also in October, to ensure spending cuts of "0.75 percent of GDP coming into effect in 2017 and 0.25 percent of GDP coming into effect in 2018".Other measures required from Greek authorities in the coming months include the deregulation of some professions, an overhaul of the welfare system, the privatisation of the electricity transmission company, ADMIE, a reform of the agriculture sector, and "capacity-building and de-politicising" of the Greek administration.In a country where deficient tax recovery and tax evasion are an old problem, the MoU asks Greek authorities to adopt measures by September and October and to "produce by November 2015 a comprehensive plan for combating tax evasion based on an effective interagency co-operation".

Vatican City-Pope Francis appointed as Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia (Turkey), the Jesuit Father Paolo Bizzeti, 67, of Florence, a Middle East expert, until now rector of Patavina Residentia Antonianum and director of the Antonianum Center for the formation of the laity in Padua. The seat had been vacant since, in 2010, the Capuchin Bishop Luigi Padovese was killed. “I am very happy that the Holy See will give continuity to the work, the commitment, the testimony of Bishop Padovese,” declared the Jesuit at the microphones of Vatican Radio. “The local Christian community has long awaited a pastor and so I think there is reason for joy, together with our brothers who are surely living a situation of the Christian life as an extreme minority with some difficulties.” This is, Bizzeti continues, “a small but vibrant community, proud of its faith that continues onward in a context that is certainly not easy. However Turkey is a big country that also has a very beautiful tradition of tolerance, of multi-religiosity. We could just say that it is a country where religions have always met and where there has always been a fruitful exchange between the Western and Eastern traditions. He entered the Society of Jesus on November 22, 1966; was ordained a priest on June 21, 1975 and made his solemn profession on June 12, 1982. As a specialist in Middle Eastern issues, among many positions held, Bizzeti founded and leads the Friends of the Middle East non-profit organization, the community of families “Maranatha” and the “Tavola Pellegrini Medio Oriente (TPM)” (“Pilgrims Table of the Middle East” ed). From 2007 to 2013 he was Rector Scholasticate in Philosophy at the Aloisianum Institute of Padua, and since 2007, Rector at Patavina Residentia Antonianum and director of the Antonianum Center for the formation of the laity in Padua. Besides Italian, he speaks English, German, Spanish and French. The Turkish office had been vacant since June 3, 2010, when just days before a visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Cyprus, the then Apostolic Vicar for Anatolia, Luigi Padovese, was killed. His driver, Murat Altun, was arrested and sentenced for murder. Soon, at a date and place still to be determined, Bizzeti will be ordained bishop and in a few months will begin his pastoral service in the ecclesiastical region ranging from Antioch on the Orontes (Antakya today) and Tarsus - deep in southern Turkey - to the shores of Black Sea, with the city of Trabzon and Samsun.

And so it was, the latest baptism celebrated by Pope Francis, last Saturday, August 8, in the chapel of St. Martha’s House. Two young Argentines received the first sacrament, and one of them is the newborn daughter of an old friend. It is neither the first nor the last of these gestures, because Francis has shown that, despite being at the head of the universal Church, he has not lost the habits of a pastor.The stage? St. Martha’s House. Lucas Schaerer and Ana Laura De Abreu arrived, where they presented Simona Libertad (a little more than two months old) and her sister Charo (9 years old). The Pope received them as a priest. Aug, 09:17-Russian and Nato drills indicate they are “preparing for a possible confrontation”, in a political climate which risks accidental war, a British think tank warns.The European Leadership Network (ELN), a London-based NGO, profiled a massive Russian exercise in March and a smaller Nato drill, called Allied Shield, in June.The Russian manoeuvres saw soldiers wake up on 16 March to orders which eventually drew in 80,000 servicemen.Russian airborne troops simulated an invasion of Latvia supported by attack helicopters and artillery, while its Baltic Sea fleet carried out search and destroy missions and air defence operations.Its Northern Fleet, based in the Barents Sea, conducted similar exercises, supported by strategic bombers and fighter jets.Its Black Sea Fleet carried out anti-submarine sweeps. 6 August 2015, Hiroshima/ Geneva (IFRC/ICRC) – Seventy years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japanese Red Cross Society hospitals are still treating thousands of survivors for long-term health effects, with nearly two-thirds of deaths among them due to cancer."Even after so many decades, we continue to see the catastrophic health impact from the use of nuclear weapons on these two cities," said ICRC President Peter Maurer. "What more compelling argument could there be for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons, especially as most of the bombs in the arsenals of nuclear armed states today are more powerful and destructive?"With nearly 200,000 survivors still alive it is expected that many thousands will continue to need care for radiation related illnesses in the coming years, while the psychological impact of the bombings continues to haunt even those survivors not physically ill."This commemoration is a reminder of the indiscriminate humanitarian consequences of nuclear weapons," said Tadateru Konoé, the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies who is representing the Movement at Peace Memorial Ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The hospitals have together handled more than 2.5 million outpatient visits by atomic bomb survivors and more than 2.6 million admissions of survivors as inpatients.The 70th commemoration of the atomic bombings comes just months after the failure of the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons to agree on moves forward towards their elimination. Aug, 09:28-Friday’s (14 August) Eurogroup meeting on the Greek bailout could see Germany push for tighter conditions and clash with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on debt relief.Meanwhile, the Greek Parliament, on Friday morning, approved the bailout agreement and the required prior actions after almost 24 hours of discussions, which exposed the ever-deeper rift in Greek PM Alexis Tsipras' coalition.Two hundred and twenty two MPs voted Yes, 64 voted No, including 32 from Tsipras' own party, while 11 abstained.The Vouli debate went on all night, with heated exchanges between MPs and with the parliament speaker, Zoe Konstantopoulou, trying to delay the vote to Friday afternoon through procedural manoeuvres."I am not going to support the prime minister any more”, Konstantopoulou, a representative of Syriza's left wing, said in an indication of what could be a definitive split in the party.Tsipras told MPs the choice was between "a memorandum with the euro or a memorandum with the drachma”.He also warned them that German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble would try to take back the up-to €86 billion aid which Greece had managed to negotiate if they did not vote in time for the Eurogroup event.' Partially compliant'-Germany had already voiced skepticism on the technical EU-Greece accord reached on Tuesday, and Schaeuble is expected to push for new conditions at the Eurogroup.A document from the German finance ministry leaked by Green MEP Sven Giegold indicates Schaeuble will say the memorandum of understanding (MoU), which outlines reforms to be implemented during the three-year bailout, does not meet all the conditions agreed at July’s euro summit."Large parts of the summit statement including the prior actions from the aide-memoire are included in the MoU. BRUSSELS, Today, 22:36-Euro countries have agreed to lend Greece up to €86 billion more to keep it in the single currency, with the first tranche, of €23 billion, to be transferred next Thursday (20 August).The agreement was clinched at a meeting of euro finance ministers in Brussels on Friday (14 August).Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who chaired the event, told press that if Athens implements the required reforms it will “allow Greece to return to sustainable growth”.European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker said: “The message of today's Eurogroup is loud and clear: On this basis, Greece is and will irreversibly remain a member of the euro area”.Valdis Dombrovskis, his economic affairs commissioner, called the deal “solid and comprehensive … fair”."Today's agreement will lift the uncertainty that has hung over the country and the euro area for too long”, he added.The money is to come in the form of a 32.5-year maturity, 1 percent interest rate, loan from the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), the EU’s Luxembourg-based anti-crisis fund, which has up to €455 billion in its coffers.But ESM chief Klaus Regling noted, in Brussels, that he expects the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to join the programme in autumn, reducing the ESM’s full share of the burden.He also said he expects income from Greek privatisations to reduce the burden further."Greece is the only euro area country which hasn't turned the page on the crisis", he noted.Toxic debate-The accord comes after Greek MPs, following a toxic debate on Thursday night, voted through a tough package of reforms, dubbed “prior actions”.It also comes despite German reservations, with Berlin having signalled earlier in the day the reform package was not quite tough enough.The ESM board plans to rubber-stamp the agreement at a meeting next Wednesday, enabling it to pay out the €23 billion the next morning, in time for Greece to repay a €3.2 billion loan to the European Central Bank (ECB).It also aims to disburse a further €3 billion in September or October and to create a €10 billion “reserve fund”, wich can be tapped by Greek banks if they get into trouble in the short term.With Greece having been forced to impose capital controls in recent weeks to stem a potential bank run, Dijsselbloem underlined that Greek savers will not be forced to “bail-in” - contribute money - to the rescue package, even though some “senior” Greek bondholders will lose out.“We wanted to make sure there is no unrest among depositors”, Dijsselbloem said.Among a laundry list of measures demanded from Greece, its banks will face “stress tests” in autumn, before receiving recapitalisation funds.The ownership of the recapitalised banks will then be transferred to a new Greek privatisation fund, which is to be co-managed by the commission, the ECB, and the IMF.The arrangement means the return to Greece of what used to be called the “troika” of EU and IMF monitors - a hated institution which Greek PM Alexis Tsipras had earlier pledged to abolish.Political uncertainty-Despite the Greek Yes vote on Friday, Tsipras faces a rebellion by the left wing of his party, auguring potential political instability.But Dijsselbloem, Regling, and Dombrovsksis praised the Greek PM in glowing terms.Dijsselbloem said the Greek government has become “very serious” in the way it is now managing the crisis and in the way it has “normalised” its working relationship with creditors.He declined to speculate whether Greece will need long-term debt relief or further bailouts before it gets back on its feet.He also said he is happy that, despite the Syriza rebellion, the bailout conditions have a “broad majority from a broad range of parties [in Greece] … from the right, from the moderate left, and from the centre”.

Aug, 19:18-The memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreed by the Greek government and creditors on Tuesday (11 August) sets out a very constraining roadmap for Greece in exchange for a new bailout, the amount of which is yet to be decided.The 29-page document, which was leaked to media on Wednesday, requires wide-ranging and specific reforms to be implemented according to a precise timetable.The document, if it is endorsed by the Eurogroup, which will take place on Friday (14 August) in Brussels, and then ratified by eurozone countries, will leave very little room for manoeuvre for Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras.A set of prior actions will have to be voted by the Greek parliament, probably on Thursday, as a condition for the Eurogroup to endorse the deal.Prior actions include pension, tax and healthcare reforms, a strategy to address the issue of non-performing loans, reform of the gas market, and implementation of an already-agreed privatisation programme.By the end of August, the creditors ask the Greek government to "finalise a comprehensive strategy for the financial system which has deteriorated markedly since end-2014”.-Ownership-The Greek government will then be required to implement reforms with deadlines almost every month until autumn next year, under close control by its creditors - the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)."Success requires ownership of the reform agenda programme by the Greek authorities," the MoU says in its preamble.It adds that the Greek government must "stand ready to take any measures that may become appropriate for this purpose as circumstances change”."The government commits to consult and agree with the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund on all actions relevant for the achievement of the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding before these are finalised and legally adopted”, the document says.Concerning the banking and financial sector, the MoU specifies that "no unilateral fiscal or other policy actions will be taken by the authorities, which would undermine the liquidity, solvency, or future viability of the banks"."All measures, legislative or otherwise, taken during the programme period, which may have an impact on banks' operations, solvency, liquidity, asset quality etc. should be taken in close consultation with the EC/ECB/IMF and where relevant the ESM”, it adds, referring to the European Stability Mechanism, the eurozone fund which will furnish a large part of the bailout.-Primary budget-In the meantime, the creditors are careful to say "the recovery strategy takes into account the need for social justice and fairness, both across and within generations"."Fiscal constraints have imposed hard choices, and it is therefore important that the burden of adjustment is borne by all parts of society and taking into account the ability to pay”.The MoU identifies four pillars on which it builds the bailout programme strategy: "restoring fiscal sustainability", "safeguarding financial stability", "growth, competitiveness, and investment", and "a modern state and public administration"."Success will require the sustained implementation of agreed policies over many years," it warns, with the bailout programme to cover the years 2015 to 2018.In order to achieve the designed strategy, the Greek government is required to achieve a primary budget with a deficit of 0.25 percent of GDP this year, with a surplus of 0.5 percent in 2016, 1.75 percent in 2017, and 3.5 percent in 2018.The target is lower than the 1 percent target outlined in previous discussions in June.At the time, the EU expected 0.5 percent growth of the Greek economy this year.But according to EU sources quoted by the AFP news agency Wednesday, the Greek economy is now expected to shrink by 2.3 percent this year, and 1.3 percent in 2016.To meet these targets in a downgraded environment, the Greek government is required to adopt next October "a supplementary 2015 budget as needed, the draft 2016 budget and a 2016–19 medium-term fiscal strategy, supported by a sizable and credible package of parametric measures and structural fiscal reforms”.Reforms-The measures will include further pension reforms, tax reforms to increase revenue, as well as the extension, until 2018, of a special contribution from Greece's shipping sector, and the reduction of military spending by €100 million in 2015 and €400 million in 2016.In addition, the Greek government will have to take "credible structural measures", also in October, to ensure spending cuts of "0.75 percent of GDP coming into effect in 2017 and 0.25 percent of GDP coming into effect in 2018".Other measures required from Greek authorities in the coming months include the deregulation of some professions, an overhaul of the welfare system, the privatisation of the electricity transmission company, ADMIE, a reform of the agriculture sector, and "capacity-building and de-politicising" of the Greek administration.In a country where deficient tax recovery and tax evasion are an old problem, the MoU asks Greek authorities to adopt measures by September and October and to "produce by November 2015 a comprehensive plan for combating tax evasion based on an effective interagency co-operation".

Taxes on fuel for farmers is to be raised from €66 per 1,000 litres to €200 from October.Early retirement will be phased out, with the retirement age to be set at 67 years in 2022 at the latest.A previous pension reform voted in 2010 at the creditors' request are to be implemented and measures introduced by Tsipras’ government earlier this year are to be repealed.The price of off-patent drugs and generic medicine is be cut to 50 percent and 32.5 percent, respectively, of the patent price.Measures on healthcare introduced by the left-wing government have to be taken back.The government is required to launch a strategy to address the issue of non-performing loans - loans which are not being repaid to Greek banks.The list of prior actions also includes implementation of an already-agreed privatisation programme and gas market reform.Opposition-Tsipras said on Wednesday the bailout deal “will put a final end to economic uncertainty" .But the Greek PM is facing strong opposition from the left wing of his Syriza party.He was voted into power in January on an anti-austerity ticket and he called a referendum, in July, on creditors’ demands in which Greeks voted No.In July, 39 Syriza MPs already voted against the first set of prior actions and 36 MPs voted against the second set.Rebels could be more numerous on Thursday, casting a shadow over the future of the Syriza-led coalition government.A vote in support of the creditor's demands would trigger an “immediate divorce”, Costas Isichos, a former Tsipras government minister, warned.

Rome-The Holy Year of Mercy will open, according to Pope Francis, on December 8, Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which “is the initial plan of God. God wants us all spotless, pure within, and this original beauty, which now has been lacking in history because of human sin, has started again with Maria.” So, inaugurating the Jubilee in that Solemnity, “the Pope tells us, ‘This is the dream of God,’ and we can all take a step to get closer to the dream of God.” This was stated by Cardinal Angelo Comastri, Vicar General of the Pope for the State of Vatican City, in an interview with Vatican Radio.We must allow ourselves “to be led by Mary,” is his invitation, “Let us be taken by her: Mary will show us the way of mercy, the way in which we can recover all the beauty we have lost. God is ready; the door is open: we enter.”The occasion of the interview with Alessandro Gisotti is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven: tomorrow the Pope will recite the Angelus at 12 along with the faithful gathered in St. Peter's Square. Mary was not discouraged. Vatican City-“Overcome Indifference and Win Peace.” This is the theme that Pope Francis has chosen for the 49th World Day of Peace, which will be celebrated on January 1, 2016, with the intention, explained in a statement issued today by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, to “build a sense of responsibility and create awareness about the serious problems and challenges afflicting our time, such as fundamentalism, intolerance and massacres, persecutions on account of faith and ethnicity, disregard for freedom and the destruction of the rights of entire peoples, the exploitation of human beings submitted even to the different forms of slavery, corruption and organized crime, war and the plight of refugees and forcibly displaced persons.”The World Day of Peace was initiated by Paul VI, and is celebrated each year on the first day of January. The Holy Father's Message is sent to all Foreign Ministers of the world, and also indicates the Holy See’s diplomatic line during the coming year. That of 2015 is the third World Day of Peace by Pope Francis.“Indifference in regard to the scourges of our time,” explains the note from the Dicastery led by Cardinal Peter Turkson, “is one of the fundamental causes of the lack of peace. Today, indifference is often linked to various forms of individualism which cause isolation, ignorance, selfishness and, therefore, lack of interest and commitment. Vatican City-Pope Francis appointed as Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia (Turkey), the Jesuit Father Paolo Bizzeti, 67, of Florence, a Middle East expert, until now rector of Patavina Residentia Antonianum and director of the Antonianum Center for the formation of the laity in Padua. The seat had been vacant since, in 2010, the Capuchin Bishop Luigi Padovese was killed. “I am very happy that the Holy See will give continuity to the work, the commitment, the testimony of Bishop Padovese,” declared the Jesuit at the microphones of Vatican Radio. “The local Christian community has long awaited a pastor and so I think there is reason for joy, together with our brothers who are surely living a situation of the Christian life as an extreme minority with some difficulties.” This is, Bizzeti continues, “a small but vibrant community, proud of its faith that continues onward in a context that is certainly not easy. However Turkey is a big country that also has a very beautiful tradition of tolerance, of multi-religiosity. We could just say that it is a country where religions have always met and where there has always been a fruitful exchange between the Western and Eastern traditions. So I hope that we can also establish bridges, the relations between the Christian communities present here and the others, just as Saint Paul did, who connected even very diverse Christian communities from the East and the West.”Moreover “Antioch on the Orontes, Tarsus, are places where - we could say - to have been born, as much as Jerusalem.”Already in 1984, said the press office of the Italian Jesuits, Father Bizzeti had asked his superiors to be sent as a missionary in Turkey: “I realized the importance of the land to the Church and its extreme poverty of consecrated persons, but time was not yet ripe.” Since then his love and interest in this country has continued to grow. “I have thorough knowledge of the many biblical sites (Antioch, Tarsus, Ephesus), of the small existing Christian communities, I brought many groups of pilgrims, I wrote a guide, I was there on vacation ... so it is a country I love. I love its people, its nature, its history.”As for dialogue with Islam at this complex juncture throughout the Middle Eastern scenario, “it is more important than ever - and more than ever, especially in prayer, we ask God alone to protect us from divisions, from sterile wars, and from fundamentalism. I believe that the vast majority of people do not agree with either violence or fundamentalism. We must give voice to what the vast majority of the people feel and want,” said the Jesuit on Vatican Radio. What wishes for the new mission? “I will go with a lot of humility, because I am not very young, I have to learn the language ... and so I will go at the beginning of this Jubilee Year of Mercy asking everyone to have mercy upon me and hoping to bring to them the mercy of God.” And, as reported by the press office of the Italian Jesuits, Bizzeti states: “I do not intend to proselytize. Even the Pope has been very clear on this point. I want to help Christians to live fully in the local Churches, to guard their precious identity and to be loyal citizens of a country that can always grow better if it values diversity.”Bizzeti was born in Florence on September 22, 1947. He holds a license in Philosophy from the Pontifical Faculty of Philosophy at the Aloisianum Institute of Gallarate, a baccalaureate in Theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy and the degree in Humanities from the Alma Mater Studiorum at the University of Bologna. He entered the Society of Jesus on November 22, 1966; was ordained a priest on June 21, 1975 and made his solemn profession on June 12, 1982. As a specialist in Middle Eastern issues, among many positions held, Bizzeti founded and leads the Friends of the Middle East non-profit organization, the community of families “Maranatha” and the “Tavola Pellegrini Medio Oriente (TPM)” (“Pilgrims Table of the Middle East” ed). From 2007 to 2013 he was Rector Scholasticate in Philosophy at the Aloisianum Institute of Padua, and since 2007, Rector at Patavina Residentia Antonianum and director of the Antonianum Center for the formation of the laity in Padua. Besides Italian, he speaks English, German, Spanish and French. The Turkish office had been vacant since June 3, 2010, when just days before a visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Cyprus, the then Apostolic Vicar for Anatolia, Luigi Padovese, was killed. His driver, Murat Altun, was arrested and sentenced for murder. Soon, at a date and place still to be determined, Bizzeti will be ordained bishop and in a few months will begin his pastoral service in the ecclesiastical region ranging from Antioch on the Orontes (Antakya today) and Tarsus - deep in southern Turkey - to the shores of Black Sea, with the city of Trabzon and Samsun.

Vatican City-An intimate ceremony, without protocol or official photographers. There were only eight guests. And so it was, the latest baptism celebrated by Pope Francis, last Saturday, August 8, in the chapel of St. Martha’s House. Two young Argentines received the first sacrament, and one of them is the newborn daughter of an old friend. It is neither the first nor the last of these gestures, because Francis has shown that, despite being at the head of the universal Church, he has not lost the habits of a pastor.The stage? St. Martha’s House. Lucas Schaerer and Ana Laura De Abreu arrived, where they presented Simona Libertad (a little more than two months old) and her sister Charo (9 years old). The Pope received them as a priest. He himself prepared the ceremony and, in the end, turned off the candles and said: “I still have the habits of a pastor.”Schaerer forms part of “La Alameda,” an Argentine organization that fights against trafficking and slave labor. She and her family were able to make the journey to Rome thanks to a huge economic effort and the generosity of their family and friends.According to Schaerer, the christening was not just a gesture of friendship, but also a “blessing” for the work done by activists of “La Alameda,” who accompanied Cardinal Bergoglio when he celebrated Mass against trafficking in Plaza Constitución in Buenos Aires, where about 150 people participated. Those were different times, and Bergoglio was not so popular.
