Like most Americans, I spent the 60s, 70s, and part of the 80s in awe of Bill Cosby and his total domination of popular culture. He was the first African American to star in a dramatic television series, I Spy, a show my family in Buffalo, New York, always watched. Cosby cut a striking figure on-screen then. He was funny, smart, and even elegant—all those wonderful things many white Americans didn’t associate with people of color. In fact, as I thought of going public with what follows, a voice in my head kept whispering, “Black men have enough enemies out there already, they certainly don’t need someone like you, an African American with a familiar face and a famous name, fanning the flames.”Imagine my joy in the mid-80s when an agent called to say Bill Cosby wanted me to audition for a role on the The Cosby Show. Cosby played an obstetrician, and he sometimes used models to portray pregnant women sitting in his office waiting room. It was a small part with one or two speaking lines at most, but I wanted in.I was in the midst of an ugly custody battle for my only child. I needed a big break badly and appearing on The Cosby Show seemed like an excellent way of getting Hollywood’s attention. I’d appeared in one or two movies already, but my phone wasn’t exactly ringing off the hook with acting jobs.Cosby’s handlers invited me to a taping of the show so I could get the lay of the land and an idea of what my role required. After the taping I met all the cast and then met with Cosby in his office to talk a bit about the hell I’d been through in my marriage. He appeared concerned and then asked what I wanted from my career going forward. He seemed genuinely interested in guiding me to the next level. I was on cloud nine.I brought my daughter to the next taping I attended. Afterward, Cosby asked if I could meet him at his home that weekend to read for the part. My ex-husband had primary custody of my daughter at the time, and I usually spent my weekends with her. Cosby suggested I bring her along, which really reeled me in. He was the Jell-O Pudding man; like most kids, my daughter loved him. When my daughter and I visited Cosby’s New York brownstone, his staff served us a delicious brunch. Then he gave us a tour of the exceptional multi-level home.Looking back, that first invite from Cosby to his home seems like part of a perfectly laid out plan, a way to make me feel secure with him at all times. It worked like a charm. Cosby suggested I come back to his house a few days later to read for the part. I agreed, and one late afternoon the following week I returned. His staff served a light dinner and Bill and I talked more about my plans for the future.After the meal, we walked upstairs to a huge living area of his home that featured a massive bar. A huge brass espresso contraption took up half the counter. At the time, it seemed rare for someone to have such a machine in his home for personal use.

Cosby said he wanted to see how I handled various scenes, so he suggested that I pretend to be drunk. (When did a pregnant woman ever appear drunk on The Cosby Show? Probably never, but I went with it.) As I readied myself to be the best drunk I could be, he offered me a cappuccino from the espresso machine. I told him I didn’t drink coffee that late in the afternoon because it made getting to sleep at night more difficult. He wouldn’t let it go. He insisted that his espresso machine was the best model on the market and promised I’d never tasted a cappuccino quite like this one.It’s nuts, I know, but it felt oddly inappropriate arguing with Bill Cosby so I took a few sips of the coffee just to appease him.Now let me explain this: I was a top model during the 70s, a period when drugs flowed at parties and photo shoots like bottled water at a health spa. I’d had my fun and experimented with my fair share of mood enhancers. I rapidly called him several more “motherfuckers.” By the fifth, I could tell that I was really pissing him off. At one point he dropped his hands from my waist and just stood there looking at me like I’d lost my mind.What happened next is somewhat cloudy for me because the drug was in fuller play by that time. I recall his seething anger at my tirade and then him grabbing me by my left arm hard and yanking all 110 pounds of me down a bunch of stairs as my high heels clicked and clacked on every step. I feared my neck was going to break with the force he was using to pull me down those stairs.It was still late afternoon and the sun hadn’t completely gone down yet. When we reached the front door, he pulled me outside of the brownstone and then, with his hand still tightly clenched around my arm, stood in the middle of the street waving down taxis.When one stopped, Cosby opened the door, shoved me into it and slammed the door behind me without ever saying a word. I somehow managed to tell the driver my address and before blacking out, I looked at the cabbie and asked, as if he knew: “Did I really just call Bill Cosby ‘a motherfucker’?”Why that was even a concern of mine after what I’d just been through is still a mystery to me? I think my mind refused to process it.The next day I woke up in my own bed after falling into a deep sleep that lasted most of the day. I had no memory of how I got into my apartment or into my bed, though most likely my doorman helped me out.I sat in there still stunned by what happened the night before, confused and devastated by the idea that someone I admired so much had tried to take advantage of me, and used drugs to do so. Had I done something to encourage his actions?In reality, I knew I’d done nothing to encourage Cosby but my mind kept turning with question after question.It took a few days for the drug to completely wear off and soon I had to get back to work. I headed to California for an acting audition. Not long after arriving, I decided I needed to confront Cosby for my own sanity’s sake. I thought if I just called him, he would come clean and explain why he’d done what he had.I dialed the private number he’d given me expecting to hear his voice on the other end. But he didn’t answer. His wife did. A little shocked, I quickly identified myself to her in the most respectful way possible and then asked to speak to Bill. Camille politely informed me that it was very late, 11:00 P.M. and that they were both in bed together.I apologized for the late call and explained that I was in Los Angeles and had forgotten about the three-hour time difference. I added that I would call back tomorrow.I didn’t call back the next day or any other day after that. At a certain moment it became clear that I would be fighting a losing battle with a powerful man so callous he not only drugged me, but he also gave me the number to the bedroom he shared with his wife. How could I fight someone that boldly arrogant and out of touch? In the end, just like the other women, I had too much to lose to go after Bill Cosby. I had a career that would no doubt take a huge hit if I went public with my story and I certainly couldn’t afford that after my costly divorce and on going court fees.---For a long time I thought it was something that only happened to me, and that I was somehow responsible. So I kept my secret to myself, believing this truth needed to remain in the darkness. But the last four weeks have changed everything, as so many women have shared similar stories, of which the press have belatedly taken heed.

Within a few hours of any formal Palestinian "declaration of independence," Arab citizens of Israel - now, over 1.8 million - will begin to transform their initially benign celebrations into full-scale riots and intifadas. Such "spontaneous" violence would serve to display this Israeli-Arab population's open and now overriding loyalty to Palestine.Significantly, these Arabs wouldn't feel any corresponding need to actually move to the new Palestinian state. After all, they would then already understand that what is "Occupied Palestine" (Israel) would soon be "absorbed" into the new state. Then, irony of ironies, although these almost two million Arabs had themselves been full citizens of a Jewish State, Palestine would become statutorily Judenrein, or "free of Jews."Palestine could not become a proper sovereign entity in consequence of assorted national approvals, whether within the United Nations, or outside of its particular collective jurisdiction.For Israel, this will represent the "international community's best idea of "justice."For Israel, which will have to fight for its life yet again, the security costs of staving off aggression and "absorption" could quickly become overwhelming. The core enemy, now, even after a legally problematic bestowal of Palestinian sovereignty, would not be Palestine per se, but rather an enlarged and conglomerate Arab/Islamist adversary, this one encompassing a broad alliance of both state and sub-state opponents.It is even possible, in these entirely predictable circumstances, that certain mobilized IDF elements would have to be placed in direct confrontation with ISIS, or ISIS-related foes.

In the short run, after formalization of Palestine, security dangers to Israel would center upon very bitter internal unrest, and on those corollary perils originating from domestic terror attacks, expanded border incursions from Palestine, and external (Palestine-based) rocket launches. In the longer term, Israel, now dangerously bereft of needed strategic depth, would face a steadily deteriorating "correlation of forces," that is, an overall weakening of Israeli military capacity. This weakening, in turn, could substantially enlarge the probability of conventional war with other Arab states, and also of conventional terror attacks.If such attenuations of Israeli power were to take place simultaneously with Iranian nuclearization, a reasonably plausible expectation, the single most catastrophic consequence of Palestine could eventually include nuclear war fighting. This sober assessment is identified here not because a Palestinian state would have any direct nuclear capabilities itself, but because that state's creation would nonetheless contribute to an increasingly corrosive regional balance of power.The precise hazards, to Israel, of a nuclear Iran, could be affected by what happens throughout the region, along the most primary Sunni-Shia axes of conflict, especially if ISIS were to make any further progress in its ongoing territorial takeovers, within sectors of Iraq and Syria. Another still widely-ignored factor in all of this prospective regional transformation is the growing probability of a new Cold War between Russia and the United States. However ignored thus far, such hardening bipolarity could strongly impact the nature and function of core Middle Eastern alignments.A still under-examined result of Palestinian independence would be the meaningfully enlarged threat to Israel (a country smaller than America's Lake Michigan) of nuclear war and nuclear terror. Understanding this, Palestine's emergence could spawn tangibly enlarged efforts in Jerusalem/Tel Aviv to properly strengthen Israel's traditionally "ambiguous" nuclear deterrent. Quickly, such indispensable measures could embrace a more-or-less dramatic shift to an openly declared nuclear strategy, one including explicit statements about nuclear basing and nuclear targeting doctrine.From a more narrowly legal perspective, there is one additional point. Under governing international law, the always-binding requirements of statehood are expressed at the Convention on the Rights and Duties of States ("Montevideo Convention"), a treaty which entered into force in 1934. Among other things, this authoritative pact clarifies that statehood is independent of recognition.In the matter of prospective Palestinian statehood, this means that Palestine could not become a proper sovereign entity in consequence of assorted national approvals, whether within the United Nations, or outside of its particular collective jurisdiction. No matter how many separate states might choose to support Palestinian statehood, and no matter how respected or powerful these approving states might be, such support would be overridden by the specific, codified, and still unrealized expectations of "Montevideo."So says international law.In the end, as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated before the U.N. General Assembly last September, "The people of Israel are not the occupiers in the land of Israel." The Mandate for Palestine (1922) merely reaffirmed the already-longstanding Jewish legal right to settle anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an authorization further codified and protected at Article 80 of the U.N. Charter.No state can be obligated to commit national suicide. It is not Israel's legal or moral obligation to carve another enemy Arab state out of its own still-living body. After losing a landmark decision on November 20 allowing them to be tried for terrorism charges in a $1 billion case, the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) have now filed a very rare appeal to the Second Circuit of courts trying to squash the case.Shurat Hadin (Israel Law Center) is leading the legal charge against the PA and PLO. In a press release on Thursday they noted that the appeal, known as a motion for a writ of mandamus, "concerns personal jurisdiction and should have been filed months ago.""This is a desperate attempt by the Palestinian Authority to stall this long planned trial," said Shurat Hadin Chairperson Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, whose organization is representing 11 American families of terror victims in the case.The November decision set a New York court date for January in which the Israel-based civil rights organization's lawsuit from 2004 will finally be heard, charging the PA over the involvement of PA and PLO members in seven terror attacks between 2001 and 2004 during the Second Intifada.Darshan-Leitner added "for over a decade the defendants have tried every tactic in the book to obstruct and avoid their inevitable date with a New York jury which will finally hear the shocking evidence of their involvement in the terror attacks that left so many Americans dead.""After more than a decade of litigation and the Palestinians filing motion after motion after motion, and dragging these American terror victims through this prolonged emotional experience they should not be allowed to avoid trial for even another moment. The polls have been coming out fast and furious, ever since the Knesset decided to dissolve itself three days ago. The latest poll, carried out by Midgam for Channel 2, indicates that a Labor ticket, after the merger with Hatnua, would receive 24 Knesset seats.Likud would receive 23 seats; Jewish Home 15; Yisrael Beytenu 8; Shas 9 and United Torah Judaism (UTJ) 8. This means that the traditional right wing-religious bloc would have a slim majority of 63 seats, or two more than it currently enjoys.Moshe Kahlon's Kulanu party would receive 9 seats, and Meretz would have 5. The Arab parties would split 11 seats between them.Kulanu is expected to be willing to join either a Likud-led coalition or a left-wing coalition. However, Kahlon's sudden shift from hard right views to somewhat leftist ones have left some observers at a loss regarding his real intentions.Asked whom they would like to see as the next prime minister, 36% said Binyamin Netanyahu, while 33% said they preferred a rotation between Tzipi Livni and Yitzchak Herzog.If Likud and Jewish Home ran together, the poll shows, they would drop in combined power to just 33 MKs, as opposed to a sum total of 48 if they run separately. A similar effect was felt in the last elections, when a combined Likud / Yisrael Beytenu list fared worse than the two did when they were separate.Midgam is considered to be leftward leaning.Poll expert Jeremy Saltan told Arutz Sheva that polls are expected to become less confusing and more stable in the last 47 days before the March 17 election, since the parties will have submitted their Knesset lists and no more splitting and joining will be possible.

The air forces of Israel and Greece rehearsed air combat maneuvering this week in a joint exercise dubbed Re'amim, or Thunderclaps, at Uvda Air Base in the Negev.This is the countries' third such joint exercise in recent years, and is part of the extensive security cooperation between them, reports the IDF Website. Besides maneuvering in simulated combat between jets, the pilots rehearsed facing other aerial challenges that both air forces face."In the course of the last few days, we were working on strengthing cooperation between the militaries, with an emphasis on scenarios and missions that both air forces share,” explained Major D., Deputy Commander of the Knights of the Orange Tail squadron. “We came to teach and learn from an air force that is a good, strong partner of the Israeli Air Force.”D. explained that the exercise has an “intimate” aspect in that it enables direct professional dialogue between the two air forces – something that is not as easy in the exercises involving a larger number of air forces.Last year, the IAF hosted the Greek Air Force in the Blue Flag exercise, Israel's largest-ever aerial exercise, with the participation of the air forces of Italy and the US.The exercise was held a week before Hanukkah, the holiday that marks a Jewish victory over Seleucid-Greek armies, over 2,000 years ago.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A billboard on Interstate 95 is stirring up controversy in downtown Richmond. It says "nobody is born gay," and the organization claims to help people who have "overcome" being gay. "Identical Twins," it reads. "One is gay, one is not. Nobody is born gay."It's an ad posted on the interstate by a group called PFOX - Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays. It's an in-your-face message hitting where it hurts for many in the gay community."I am shocked and really disappointed that at the end of 2014, we have a billboard in the middle of our city that says that kind of hate," said Beth Panilaitis, Executive Director at Rosmy, an organization that supports LGBTQ youth.The organization that posted the billboard did not return our media inquiry online, or a phone call. Their website says, "People deserve to know the truth about the many men, women, and children who have made a decision to change their lives," and that "it's important to remember that sexual orientation is a matter of self-affirmation and public declaration."In a statement, Regina Griggs, Executive Director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays, said:“We find it interesting that the attacks against the billboard and ex-gay community have nothing to do with the facts.Identical twins have the same genes or DNA. They are nurtured in equal prenatal conditions. If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also be gay…Because identical twins are always genetically identical, homosexuality cannot be genetically dictated. No one is born gay.Every person seeking positive life change needs the love and support of family, friends, the community and the church. Thousands of individuals have made the decision to leave the homosexual life and will attest to the fact that change is possible.
