The IDF Armored Corps has begun using the Israel Military Industries (IMI) Hatzav shell (M329 APAM-MP-T), after first deploying it operationally during Operation Protective Edge in the Gaza Strip.The projectile was developed by IMI and the IDF Ground Arm following to lessons drawn from the Second Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead. The 120mm Hatzav shell, fitted with a delay mechanism, is intended to penetrate the first, outer wall of a building and only detonate inside the building. “The shell is highly accurate and provides tanks with a surgical urban warfare tool that minimizes collateral damage,” explains Israel Defense.According to Col. Nissim Levy, Head of the Authority for Tank Development, the cartridge is ideally suited for eliminiating terrorists who are inside a building. “Terrorists will not survive an explosion like this inside a structure,” he said.The Hatzav – which belongs to the same family as the IDF's Rakefet and Kalanit shells – can be fired at ranges of up to 5 km, or about 3 miles. It will replace the “Halulan” shell in the Merkava Mark 3 and 4 tanks. Every tank in Operation Protective Edge received a limited supply of the shells, and a total of about 500 were used during the counter-terror campaign.

Iran's Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, successfully used an attack drone in a strike that killed tens of Al Nusra Front members near Arsal, Syria, according to Iran's Fars news agency.The agency said the armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was used in a combined air and ground strike on the Lebanon-Syria border. Beside the drones, Hezbollah employed artillery and light arms against the Syrian rebel forces.An Iranian source said that Hezbollah had recently begun to use attack drones, which were apparently made in Iran.The Air Force conducted a rehearsal earlier this year for an event in which an enemy ​UAV infiltrates Israeli airspace.Both jet fighter and combat helicopter squadrons took part in the rehearsal, and practiced interception of a UAV near Israel's border, reported the Air Force Website.The IAF sees the threat as a growing one and the air crews rehearsed situations in which the most sophisticated UAVs in existence attempt to infiltrate – including models that Israel has never encountered.On April 25, 2013, a UAV penetrated Israeli air space from Lebanon, and was shot down. Kurdish fighters have issued an urgent call to arms amid warnings of an impending massacre by the Islamic State terrorist group in northern Syria.The Kurdish People's Protection Unit (YPG) has been locked in a fierce battle with IS and other Islamist groups almost since the start of Syria's civil war. Despite being relatively isolated and receiving no foreign aid from any states the YPG has proven perhaps the most effective force in pushing back against IS.But as the jihadis' focus shifts to consolidating power in northern Syria the Kurds have found themselves under fiercer attack than ever. Some 70,000 Syrian Kurds have fled into Turkey since Friday when IS captured dozens of villages near the border as part of a push to control the entire border area between Turkey and Syria.IS forces are now reportedly advancing towards the Kurdish frontier town of Kobani, known as Ayn al-Arab in Arabic. Recent bloody clashes have seen at least 39 IS terrorists and 27 Kurdish fighters killed, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.At least 11 civilians have also been executed by IS, which has captured around 64 villages around Kobani and has advanced to within 9 miles (15 kilometers) of the town, the Observatory reported.On the way, IS has been carrying out an all too familiar ritual of brutal killings in an attempt to cow the local population into submission. Reports of gruesome public beheadings - IS's trademark mode of execution - have already been reported by refugees."Rather than a war this is a genocide operation," Ibrahim Binici, a leading member of Turkey's pro-Kurdish HDP party told Reuters. After gearing their stories, Francis set adise his prepared speech and spoke evocatively about the unique dynamics of the distress and martyrdom experienced by Christians. “I am thinking of Peter chained up in prison,” the Pope said. “The entire Church prayed for him. And the Lord comforted Peter, the martyrs and the two people whose stories we heard here today. The Lord brought them comfort because there were people in the Church, God’s people, good and holy little old women and many cloistered nuns who prayed for them. This is the mystery of the Church: when the Church aks the Lord to comfort His people, the Lord consoles them in a humble and even invisible way. SURUC Turkey/BEIRUT (Reuters) - Islamic State militants tightened their noose on a northern Syrian border town on Sunday as the United Nations said the number of Syrian Kurds fleeing into neighbouring Turkey may have topped 100,000 and was likely to go much higher.Residents fleeing the frontier town of Ayn al-Arab, known in Kurdish as Kobani, and its surrounding villages said the militants were executing people of all ages in the areas they had seized to create a climate of fear and slavish obedience.Kurdish politicians in Turkey renewed their appeal to young people in the country's mainly Kurdish southeast to head to Kobani to help their ethnic kin push back Islamic State, which has seized swathes of Iraq and Syria in recent months and proclaimed a caliphate in the heart of the Middle East."ISIL (Islamic State) are continuing to advance. Every place they pass through they kill, wound and kidnap people. Many people are missing and we believe they were kidnapped," Welat Avar, a doctor, told Reuters by telephone from Kobani."We now urgently need medicines and equipment for operations. We have many casualties ... ISIL killed many people in the villages. They cut off the heads of two people, I saw it with my own eyes," he said.A Kurdish politician from Turkey who visited Kobani on Saturday gave a similar account of the Sunni militants' tactics."Rather than a war this is a genocide operation ... Some Syrian Kurds compared their plight to the Yazidi minority in Iraq, which came under attack from Islamic State earlier this year. Tens of thousands of Yazidis were forced to flee their homeland of Sinjar and other villages.The United States has carried out airstrikes against Islamic State in Iraq and has said it is prepared to extend them into Syria, but it is not clear when or where this could take place.U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power said on Sunday that other countries were willing to join Washington in launching air strikes in Syria against Islamic State militants."We will not do the air strikes alone," she told CBS' "Face the Nation". "But we're going to leave it to other nations to announce for themselves what their specific commitments to the coalition are going to be."

"WHERE IS THE WORLD?"

Among the tens of thousands crossing the border into Turkey on Sunday was Muhammet Abbas, a 40-year-old teacher who wore a blue cap as protection against the blazing sun. He led a group of about 20 people including his wife and six children."Everybody is scared ... Where is humanity? Where is the world? They are killing us and nobody cares."Turkey has said an estimated 70,000 Syrian Kurds have crossed the border since Friday, but the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said that figure may be too conservative."I don't think in the last three and a half years we have seen 100,000 cross in two days. So this is a bit of a measure of how this situation is unfolding and the very deep fear people have about the circumstances inside Syria, and for that matter Iraq," said Carol Batchelor, the UNHCR representative in Turkey."Quite frankly, we don't know when those numbers will end, we don't know what the future holds ... It could well go again into the hundreds of thousands. We need assistance for core, life-saving support," Batchelor told Reuters.Residents in Kobani said Islamic State was within 15 km (9 miles) of Kobani and closing in from the east, west and south.The town's strategic location has been blocking the Sunni Muslim insurgents from consolidating their gains in northern Syria. The group tried to take the town in July but was repulsed by local forces backed by Kurdish fighters from Turkey.Kurds are mostly Sunni Muslims but Islamic State views them as apostates because of their secular ideology. The group brooks no dissent and has persecuted and killed Shi'ite Muslims, Christians and Yazidis as well as moderate Sunni Muslims who reject their hardline version of Islam.

PKK INVOLVEMENT UNNERVES TURKEY

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors Syria's civil war, said up to 150,000 Kurds had been displaced - internally and externally - since Islamic State launched its latest offensive against Kobani last Tuesday.It also said that clashes overnight had killed 10 insurgents, bringing the number of Islamic State fighters killed to at least 39. At least 27 Kurdish fighters have died.Islamic State has seized at least 64 villages around Kobani since Tuesday, using heavy arms and thousands of fighters. KIEV (Reuters) - The Ukrainian military accused separatists and Russian troops on Sunday of continuing to shoot at government forces despite a Sept. 5 ceasefire and said Kiev would not go ahead with setting up a proposed buffer zone until the truce violations stopped.Ukraine's warring sides agreed on Friday to withdraw artillery and other heavy weapons to the outer limits of a 30 km (19 mile) buffer zone, building on the ceasefire in a conflict in eastern Ukraine that has killed more than 3,000 people.Military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said the pro-Russian separatists and Russian troops were continuing to target the positions of government forces."In the last 24 hours we have lost two Ukrainian soldiers, eight have been wounded," he told reporters on Sunday.Asked about the buffer zone, he said: "One of the main points of the agreement is the ceasefire, then other points follow."At the moment the first point has not been fulfilled so we are not talking about the other points. If there is to be a withdrawal of forces then it should be synchronized together with the withdrawal of Russian forces," he said.Lysenko said separatists had carried out a further attack on the government-held international airport of Donetsk, the east's main industrial hub. The rebels hold the city of Donetsk.He said 40 separatist fighters had been killed in "defensive" fire by Ukrainian forces. There was no independent confirmation of this figure.

CEASEFIRE "IN NAME ONLY"

Lysenko's comments echoed those of NATO's top military commander U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, who said on Saturday that fighting was continuing in Ukraine and that the truce was a ceasefire "in name only"."The situation in Ukraine is not good right now," U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove told reporters in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius following a meeting of chiefs of defense of NATO countries. "Basically, we have a ceasefire in name only.""The number of events, and the number of rounds fired and the artillery used across the past few days, match some of the pre-ceasefire levels. Kiev (AFP) - President Petro Poroshenko warned Sunday that Ukraine must be ready to defend itself should a peace plan aimed at ending a five-month war with pro-Russian insurgents fall through.The pro-Western leader's comments followed a warning by a top defence spokesman that Ukraine would not pull back its forces from the front line as required under a new truce until all sides put down their guns. Poroshenko delivered an 80-minute televised defence of his high-stakes decision Tuesday to hand a wedge of the industrial east three years of effective autonomy in return for the rebel-held area remaining a part of Ukraine.A September 5 ceasefire was reinforced on Saturday in a European-mediated deal signed with separatist leaders and Russia that required all sides to halt fire within 24 hours and set up a 30-kilometre (20-mile) demilitarisation zone.Poroshenko had been accused of essentially admitting defeat to the Kremlin by nationalist politicians who are jostling for votes ahead of parliamentary polls at the end of next month.And the 48-year-old chocolate baron came out swinging in his first extended question-and-answer session with reporters since the day after his May presidential election win."We must be ready to protect our country if the peace plan does not work," he said."Believe me, we have the means to defend ourselves," he added in reference to supplies of radar and other non-lethal military equipment he secured during his visit to Washington on Thursday and talks with NATO allies.Poroshenko conceded that the advanced technology was especially badly needed because 65 percent of the military hardware -- much of it left over from the Soviet era -- sent into the war zone had been destroyed.National Defence and Security Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said however that Ukraine would not withdraw its forces to allow the creation of a buffer zone until the rebels stopped shooting."If (Ukrainian forces) are withdrawn, it will be done simultaneously with the Russian troop withdrawal."NATO's top military commander had warned Saturday that Russian forces were "still in Ukraine" -- a menace that meant that the truce on the ground was holding "in name only".But Poroshenko argued that the conflict "cannot be won by military means alone" and stressed that the truce was reached thanks to three "very long" discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Simply put, when our troops walk into an infected zone, they can be infected for one hour and 44 minutes after the release of the Ebola into the air. When it comes to Ebola Reston, the virus can be contracted through aerosolized means for a period of two hours and forty-two minute, almost three hours! There is also strong experimental evidence that Ebola can be transmitted by airborne means.Jaax et al reported the unexpected death of two rhesus monkeys housed approximately three meters from monkeys infected with Ebola virus, concluding that respiratory or eye exposure to aerosols was the only possible explanation.This scientific evidence merely scratches the surface with regard to the available data related to these facts as they are presented in this article.

Instead, this President has overseen the obliteration of our southern borders, thus, making the citizens of this country vulnerable to the entry of Ebola from illegal immigrants emanating from West Africa as well as the distinct possibility of inviting an Ebola bio-terror attack.

One of my military sources has suggested that this is Obama’s way of covertly building up our troop presence in Africa in preparation for fighting against the Chinese troops. After living the life of an international diplomat at posts around the world including Italy and Botswana, Foreign Service officer William Bradford "Brad" Bishop Jr. settled with his family in the Washington, D.C. area in the early 1970s. Colleagues say the transition to a desk job was difficult for Bishop, a Yale graduate who spoke six languages and knew how to fly a plane. He, like a lot of his State Department colleagues, felt enormous pressure to be promoted."It's up or out," explained Foreign Service officer James Bruno. "If you don't get promoted to a certain position in a certain amount of time, you're out. We all take that very seriously in the Foreign Service," he said, but Bishop "took it much more seriously than I guess the rest of us did."When Bishop, who was 39 at the time, learned he had been passed over for a promotion on March 1, 1976, he left his job at the State Department early, telling his secretary he felt ill. He went to a hardware store, where he purchased a small sledgehammer and a gas can before heading to his home in Bethesda, Maryland. That evening, police say, Bishop fatally bludgeoned his mother, his wife and their three sons – ages 14, 10, and 5 -- with the hammer.Police say that Bishop, after killing his family, loaded their bodies into the family's station wagon and drove about five hours south to Tyrrell County in eastern North Carolina. There, in a heavily wooded area, they claim, he dumped their bodies into a shallow grave and set them on fire. Rising smoke alerted a ranger and authorities soon discovered the bodies. A massive manhunt ensued.

About 2½ hours south of the grave site, Bishop was spotted in a store near Jacksonville, North Carolina buying a pair of tennis shoes with his credit card, authorities said. The station wagon – still covered in blood -- was found abandoned in a parking lot at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, hundreds of miles west of where the bodies were found.In the days before DNA profiling and the Internet, it took a lot of old-fashioned detective work to trace the bodies back to Bethesda. The only clue investigators had was a price tag on a shovel left at the grave site with the letters "OCH HD." North Carolina state investigator Lewis Young said he and a colleague drove around the region looking for a hardware store with those letters in the name, and called law enforcement across the region for assistance. When they reached out to Washington Metropolitan Police, they learned there was a "Poch" hardware store in Potomac, Maryland. Not sure how to proceed, Young and his colleague headed to Potomac, where they posted a flyer with images of the unidentified victims' faces inside the hardware store, before returning to North Carolina.Around the same time, the Bishops' neighbors had told authorities they hadn't seen the family in a week, and mail and newspapers had piled up at the residence. When Montgomery County police entered the Bishop home, they found what officer Mike McNally described as a "horror house," with blood everywhere.Montgomery County authorities found the flyer that the North Carolina investigators left at Poch Hardware, and determined that the unidentified bodies found in North Carolina were the missing Bishop family.McNally said he'll never forget the hammer marks on the ceiling above the top bunk bed in one of the boys' bedrooms. "The number of marks, you know, how many times he must have hit his son," McNally said.There have been three credible sightings of Bishop since he disappeared in 1976: a Swedish woman and former acquaintance said she spotted him in Stockholm; a former neighbor saw him on a train in Basel, Switzerland; and a former colleague stood next to him in a men's room in Sorrento, Italy."I thought he was a vagrant," said retired Foreign Service officer Roy Harrell, who saw Bishop in Sorrento. "He was standing there and I came and stood right next to him, and for some reason turned. In my mind's eye I stripped off the beard, and saw the Foreign Service officer I had seen in Washington, D.C. I just impulsively said, 'You're Brad Bishop, aren't you?' And he began trembling and shaking and said 'Oh God, no' and turned around. I have no doubt it was him."This year, the FBI added him to its Ten Most Wanted fugitives list and commissioned a forensic artist to create a bust of what Bradford might look like today as a man in his late 70s.

French President Francois Hollande said on Friday that a "solution to the conflict" between the Israelis and Palestinian Arabs will be put to the United Nations (UN) Security Council.Hollande made the comments after meeting Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Paris, reported AFP."We will have a resolution, to be presented to the Security Council, that will say very clearly what we expect from the (peace) process and what the solution to the conflict must be," Hollande told reporters in a joint news conference with Abbas.The French president said that stop-start negotiations had gone on "too long" and "there is a perception that there will never be a solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, even though we know the outlines" of a possible deal".The most recent confrontation was "the third time that Gaza has been destroyed," Hollande said, according to AFP."What we must look for is a durable peace accord," he said, adding that stalled peace talks "must now reach their end".Abbas urged "all countries to assume their responsibilities to end a conflict that has lasted more than 66 years"."Making peace will give added legitimacy to the fight against terrorism in the region," he added.Abbas, who is trying to build support ahead of a new Palestinian Arab diplomatic push within the United Nations, said that France could give impetus to an Arab League-backed plan calling for an Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria.After France, he is to go on to New York to participate in the annual UN General Assembly starting September 24.Abbas has also been threatening to  sue Israel at the ICC. The Al-Qaeda-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis group in Egypt beheaded a man in the Sinai Peninsula for allegedly conspiring with Israel, security officials said Friday, according to The Associated Press (AP).The terrorists dumped the beheaded body on the road in the town of Sheikh Zuweyid, and continue to hold several other men for the same reason, according to the officials.They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief reporters.Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis carried out a similar act last week. A beheaded corpse was found in the same town in the Sinai Peninsula, bearing a note from the group alleging the victim was an "Israeli spy.""This is the fate of all who prove to be traitors in their homeland," the note said, claiming the victim "worked for the Mossad."In a similar incident several weeks ago, four decapitated bodies were found in Sheikh Zuweid, which is about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the Gaza border. Senate okays US-Israel Strategic Partnership bill-Legislation brands Israel ‘major partner,’ increases US weapons stockpiles in Israel, presages more cooperation in defense, energy, agriculture-By Rebecca Shimoni Stoil September 19, 2014, 6:53 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

WASHINGTON — With over three-quarters of its members as co-sponsors, the Senate unanimously adopted the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act late Thursday evening. The bill declares Israel to be a “major strategic partner” of the United States, and its proponents say it will lay the foundation for expanded US-Israel cooperation in defense, energy, agriculture, and a number of other key sectors.The bipartisan legislation was authored by Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) had 81 co-sponsors, out of a total of 100 Senators.“America’s long-standing relationship and strong cooperation with Israel dates back to the presidency of fellow Missourian Harry S. Truman,” Blunt said following the bill’s passage. “I’m pleased the Senate has passed this bipartisan bill to reaffirm and broaden the important US-Israel alliance through security, energy, and trade during this critical time in the Middle East region.”In addition to declaring that Israel is a “major strategic partner” of the United States, the legislation increases the frequency and detail of US government reporting on Israel’s qualitative military edge. It also includes a provision that will expand the authority for forward-deployed US weapons stockpiles in Israel.Under the new legislation, the US can increase by $200 million the value of US weapons held in Israel — bringing the total value of US weapons stored in Israel to a total of $1.8 billion. The forward-based weapons stockpiles in Israel have doubled in their value in the past two years, and are meant to speed up US resupply in the event of a crisis in the Middle East.The weapons in the stockpile can also be used by Israel in the event of an emergency, with Israel reimbursing the US for any weapons used. This stockpile — known as War Reserves Stock Allies-Israel (WRSA-I) — jumped to the headlines this summer after the US let Israel use 40mm grenades and 120mm mortar rounds located therein. Under scrutiny, the US placed additional reviews on the further transfer of armaments from the US to Israel during Operation Protective Edge.The legislation will also upgrade Israel’s trade status to expedite export licensing, authorize the president to provide assistance to promote cooperation in water, homeland security, agriculture and alternative fuel technologies. In addition, it creates new mechanisms for in enhanced energy cooperation, including the establishment of a US-Israel Center of Excellence in energy and water engineering, and supporting the development of research and development and academic partnerships. Passed days after Christopher Painter, the State Department’s Coordinator for Cyber Issues, visited Israel to discuss cyber-security, the bill also requires that the president study the feasibility of expanding US-Israel cooperation on cyber security.It also includes a carefully-worded provision to encourage the inclusion of Israel in the Visa Waiver Program. Allowing Israelis to enter the US without securing a tourist visa at a US consulate has been a recurring topic for years, but Israel is still not included among the three-dozen states with visa-free entry to the US.Boxer described the bill “affirming Israel’s ability to participate in the visa waiver program as long as she meets existing requirements.”Earlier this year, State Department Spokes woman Jen Psaki said that Israel has failed to meet the criteria to join the program, but State Department officials have said they’re working with Israel to bring the country into compliance with the requirements for consideration.A source at a pro-Israel organization described the visa waiver provision as a major advancement, in that its inclusion in the original House version of the legislation spurred the renewed round of US-Israel talks to bring Israel into compliance with the benchmarks. Israel’s high rate of visa rejections – the number of Israelis denied US visas – is above the US requirement for admission, and the two states have begun working together to try to address that metric.The bill also reiterates US support for a negotiated political settlement between the Israelis and Palestinians resulting in two states living side-by-side in peace and security.The passage of the bill was welcomed by AIPAC, which wrote in a statement Friday morning that “this bill will dramatically strengthen and expand the US-Israel alliance as a way to confront new threats and challenges in the Middle East.”William Daroff, senior vice president for public policy and director of the Washington office for Jewish Federations, also commended the legislation, saying that JFNA was “delighted that the Senate has come together to pass this important legislation building upon the remarkable relationship between Israel and the United States.”“In declaring Israel a ‘major strategic partner,’ the Senate has made perfectly clear that the Jewish state is and will remain one of our strongest allies in the world,” Daroff continued. “Alongside this week’s House resolution condemning anti-Semitism throughout the globe, it is heartening to know that at times of need, the Jewish community will always be able to count on our Congressional leaders for support.”The House of Representatives adopted a companion bill in March 2014, and pro-Israel advocates, including AIPAC, are pushing both houses to move quickly to reconcile the two versions of the legislation in order to advance it to the president for final approval. Differences between the two bills are described by those familiar with the legislation as ‘minimal’, and there are hopes that the legislation can be reconciled during the lame-duck session of Congress following the November midterm elections.
