Long search looms for Malaysia jet, families renew protests-By Matt Siegel and Rujun Shen 15 minutes ago-MAR 30,14-Yahoonews-Black box locator is days away from new search zone

HMAS STIRLING NAVAL BASE, Australia/KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - T he search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 could take years, U.S. Navy officials suggested on Sunday, as search and rescue officials raced to locate the plane's black box recorder days before its batteries are set to die.Ten ships and as many aircraft are searching a massive area in the Indian Ocean west of Perth, trying to find some trace of the aircraft, which went missing more than three weeks ago and is presumed to have crashed. The chief of the China Maritime Search and Rescue Center, He Jianzhong, told the Xinhua state news agency no objects linked to the plane had been found on Sunday, and that Chinese vessels would expand their search area.Numerous objects have been spotted in the two days since Australian authorities moved the search 1,100 km (685 miles) after new analysis of radar and satellite data concluded the Boeing 777 travelled faster and for a shorter distance after vanishing from civilian radar screens on March 8. None has been confirmed as coming from Flight MH370.U.S. Navy Captain Mark Matthews, who is in charge of the U.S. Towed Pinger Locator (TPL), told journalists at Stirling Naval Base near Perth that the lack of information about where the plane went down seriously hampers the ability to find it."Right now the search area is basically the size of the Indian Ocean, which would take an untenable amount of time to search," he said."If you compare this to Air France flight 447, we had much better positional information of where that aircraft went into the water," he said, referring to a plane that crashed in 2009 near Brazil and which took more than two years to find. The U.S. Navy cannot use the pinger locator and other sonar used to listen for the beacons on the aircraft's flight data and cockpit voice recorders until "conclusive visual evidence" of debris is found, U.S. Navy spokesman Commander William Marks told CBS' "Face the Nation" program. If no location is found, searchers would have to use sonar to slowly and methodically map the bottom of the ocean, he said. "That is an incredibly long process to go through. It is possible, but it could take quite a while," he said.Among the vessels to join the search is an Australian defense force ship, the Ocean Shield, that has been fitted with a sophisticated U.S. black box locator and an underwater drone.Australia, which is coordinating the search in the southern Indian Ocean, said it had established a new body to oversee the investigation and issued countries involved in the search a set of protocols to abide by should any wreckage be found.Malaysia says the plane, which disappeared less than an hour into a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was likely diverted deliberately. Investigators have determined no apparent motive or other red flags among the 227 passengers or the 12 crew.

WEATHER THREATENS EXPANDED SEARCH

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said aircraft from China, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the United States were involved in the search on Sunday. The search has involved unprecedented cooperation between more than two dozen countries and 60 aircraft and ships but has also been hampered by regional rivalries and an apparent reluctance to share potentially crucial information due to security concerns.Asked if more resources could added to the international effort, U.S. Navy spokesman Marks told CBS, "We have about as many assets out there as we can. You have to wonder if the debris is even out there. If we fly over something, we will see it."This week, Australia issued a set of rules and guidelines to all parties involved in the search, giving Malaysia authority over the investigation of any debris to be conducted on Australian soil, a spokeswoman at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Reuters."Australia intends to bring the wreckage ashore at Perth and hold it securely for the purposes of the Malaysian investigation," the spokeswoman said.Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Sunday appointed a former chief of Australia's defense forces, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, to lead a new Joint Agency Coordination Centre-The JACC will coordinate communication between all international partners as well as with the families of passengers, many of whom are expected to travel to Perth.

FAMILY PROTESTS

The Malaysian government has come under strong criticism from China, home to more than 150 of the passengers, where relatives of the missing have accused the government of "delays and deception".On Sunday, dozens of angry relatives of Chinese passengers from Beijing met with Chinese embassy officials in Kuala Lumpur, piling more pressure on the Malaysian government over its handling of the case."We arrived here this morning with sorrow and anxiety, because the special envoy from Malaysia, the so called high-level tech team, did not give us any effective information in meetings that took place in three consecutive days," said Jiang Hui, a relative of one of the victims."We want the Malaysian government to apologize for giving out confusing information in the past week which caused the delay in the search and rescue effort."(Additional reporting by Morag MacKinnon and Michael Martina in Perth, Lincoln Feast in Sydney, Paul Carsten and Xihao Jiang in Beijing, Andrea Shalal in Washington; Editing by Dean Yates, Jeremy Laurence and Frances Kerry)

New Eaton Microgrid Management System Enhances Fuel Savings, Reliability, and Troop Safety on Military Forward Operating Bases-Date: March 27, 2014--Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System Designed for Force Provider to Transform Generators into a Fuel Reducing Demand-Managed Microgrid

PITTSBURGH … Power management company Eaton today announced the launch of Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System, a microgrid management solution engineered to enhance the efficiency, reliability and safety of military forward operating bases. The new system can transform independently operating generators into a demand-managed microgid. In initial testing at U.S. military base Fort Devens, the systems reduced fuel consumption in excess of 30 percent.Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System manages the output of generators as an intelligent system and is designed to provide adequate power to meet current demands, rather than inefficiently engaging all generators at all times. This can reduce energy waste and provide bases with enhanced power surety by preventing grid collapse caused by generator fault, and by shifting demand onto supporting generators for a reliable, safe supply of power.“Reducing energy demand is a critical priority for the military with the potential not only to save revenue but to enhance the safety of our troops,” said John Stampfel, vice president and general manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton. “By increasing the efficiency of onsite power Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System can help limit the risks that troops face as they use, transport and store fuel.”Demonstrating the impact of the solution, Fort Devens tested Eaton’s Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System. Following the system enhancement, fuel consumption for a typical forward operating base was reduced by more than 30 percent.“The success of Army missions and the security of our soldiers are dependent on reliable access to energy and water,” said Katherine Hammack, assistant secretary of the Army, Installations, Energy and Environment, during a panel at the Association of the United States Army annual meeting. This dependence, and the threat it faces in military zones, has led the Army to pursue energy alternatives and resource management strategies.Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System is designed to be compatible with leading generator manufacturers to help simplify installation and enhance scalability for future power system expansion. Additionally, the demand-managed system can be further enhanced with optional solar and energy storage connectivity for seamless integration into renewable energy microgrid installations. To learn more about Intelligent Mobile Power Distribution System and Eaton’s portfolio of power management solutions for government and military applications, visit www.eaton.com/government.Eaton’s electrical business is a global leader with expertise in power distribution and circuit protection; backup power protection; control and automation; lighting and security; structural solutions and wiring devices; solutions for harsh and hazardous environments; and engineering services. Merchant ship shot at in Strait of Hormuz Sunday- NATO
Mar 30,14-Yahoonews

DUBAI (Reuters) - Unknown assailants in a speedboat shot at a merchant vessel as it sailed through the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman on Sunday, the NATO Shipping Centre (NSC) said. The unidentified merchant ship reported being shot at twice from close range from a speedboat carrying six people armed with machine guns, on Sunday morning. It repelled the attack with hoses and the vessel and crew are safe, NSC said.Although suspected Somali pirates commonly attack merchant shipping in the Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin, attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz - a vital oil and gas shipping route - are rare. The attack happened on the Gulf of Oman side of the Strait of Hormuz, about 90 minutes after a different merchant ship was approached by two speedboats with crews wearing military clothing, NATO said."Two green colored skiffs with three-four persons on board in military clothing and armed with gun machines got to 150 meters of a merchant vessel," the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's merchant shipping alert service said in a statement."After a while the skiffs turned away to Iranian coast."No shots were fired by the crews wearing military uniforms. That incident happened about 30 nautical miles to the west of the shooting by a different speedboat.A spokesman for the NATO Shipping Centre said the two incidents were being investigated. He said the nationalities of the non-merchant crews had not yet been determined and that it was to early to say whether the two incidents were related.(Reporting by Daniel Fineren, Editing by Angus MacSwan)

Russia plays down impact of Western sanctions before talks with U.S.
By Alexei Anishchuk and Lesley Wroughton 1 hour ago-MAR 30,14-Yahoonews

MOSCOW/PARIS (Reuters) - Western sanctions imposed on Russia over its intervention in Ukraine have caused some disruption but not been too painful, Moscow's foreign minister said hours before talks on Sunday with his U.S. counterpart on a way out of the East-West standoff.U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet in Paris at 1630 GMT seeking to hammer out the framework of a deal to reduce tensions over Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimea region. They will aim to develop a proposal conceived by Kerry and Lavrov at earlier sessions, with Western leaders considering broader sanctions against Russia that would target vital sectors of its economy including its mainstay oil and gas industry.Ideas on the table included a deployment of international monitors in Ukraine, the withdrawal of Russian forces from Crimea and the border zone around Ukraine, and the launch of direct talks between Moscow and the government in Kiev."Today, we expect Secretary Kerry and Foreign Minister Lavrov to continue the discussion they've been having in the interest of finding concrete ways to de-escalate the conflict," a senior U.S. State Department official said.

Tymoshenko wants Crimea back

Kerry and Lavrov hoped to build on a phone call on Friday between presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama, according to senior U.S. officials, to defuse the worst East-West confrontation since the Cold War ended two decades ago.A spokeswoman for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said the EU strongly favored "meaningful dialogue" between Ukraine and its old Soviet-era master Russia."Russian officials have been stating that Moscow has no intentions beyond Crimea. We expect to see words translated into deeds, including with regard to the military build-up at the regions bordering Ukraine," Ashton's spokeswoman said. The United States and EU have meted out two rounds of sanctions on Russia, including visa bans and asset freezes for some of Putin's inner circle, to punish Moscow over its seizure of Crimea, a Russian-majority Black Sea peninsula, after mass protests ousted Kiev's pro-Russian president in February."I don't want to say that sanctions are ridiculous and that we couldn't care less, these are not pleasant things," Lavrov told Russia's Channel One."We find little joy in that, but there are no painful sensations. We have lived through tougher times."

RUSSIA RAPS WESTERN CURBS ON CONTACT

Lavrov said Western powers had put unofficial restrictions in place, urging their diplomats in Moscow to boycott meetings attended by Russian officials and lawmakers on the sanctions list.He said Russian diplomats stationed in European Union capitals had also been refused meetings with officials from EU foreign ministries."Diplomacy is the art of talking and making agreements," Lavrov said. "If diplomats are motivated to become instruments of the sanctions policy, then it's a totally different story."Crimeans voted to secede from Ukraine and join Russia in a March 16 referendum dismissed as a sham by Western governments that say it violated Ukraine's constitution and was held only after Russian forces seized control of the Black Sea peninsula. The West has threatened the tougher sanctions against Russia's stuttering economy if Moscow invades eastern Ukraine. The West has refused to recognize Crimea's absorption into Russia although U.S. officials acknowledge that the takeover of the predominantly Russian-speaking region is not likely to be resolved soon. Instead, talks have honed in on warnings to Moscow not to go further into Ukraine.U.S. officials are deeply worried about the massing of what they estimate are up to 40,000 Russian troops on Ukraine's border, which is stoking concerns in Washington and elsewhere that Russia is preparing a wider incursion into Ukraine. While Moscow has said the buildup is part of normal Russian exercises only, Obama has described it as out of the ordinary that could be a precursor to other actions. The meeting in Paris comes days before a gathering of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday that is likely to focus on Ukraine and Russia's actions.Lavrov, speaking on Russian television on Saturday, said Moscow had "no intention" of invading eastern Ukraine and reinforced a message from Putin that Moscow would settle - at least for now - for control over Crimea.Lavrov, added, however that Russia was ready to protect the rights of Russian speakers, referring to what Moscow sees as threats to the lives of compatriots in eastern Ukraine.Kerry will meet French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius before his talks with Lavrov at 6.30 p.m. Paris time. The phone conversation between Putin and Obama on Friday was the first known direct contact between the estranged leaders since Washington and its European allies approved sanctions.Russia has drafted counter-sanctions, barring senior U.S. officials from entering Russia. On Friday Moscow said it had retaliated against expanded Western sanctions but did not name any U.S. or EU officials affected.(Editing by Mark Heinrich)

How to thwart a gunman at 29,000 feet, by the only pilot who ever did-With world attention focused on MH370, Uri Bar-Lev recalls how he saved his El Al passengers from an attempted skyjacking, and says other pilots should have been trained to do the same — on 9/11 and in countless other cases By Mitch Ginsburg March 24, 2014, 2:14 pm-The Times of Israel

With the world’s attention focused on Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, a retired El Al pilot, a veteran of five armed hijacking attempts and plots, including one movie-worthy standoff at 29,000 feet, splashed some local brandy into his afternoon tea.“When you don’t know, you just don’t know,” Uri Bar-Lev said of the fate of the airliner, speaking two weeks after it dropped off the radar. Then, while he was folding the Hebrew paper, which was splayed open to the MH370 story of the day, came an endearingly familiar routine, the ritual dance performed by so many Israelis of Bar-Lev’s 1948 generation: Why do you want to hear this story? What’s so special about it? It’s been told before. Haven’t you read it? Why would people want to hear it now? The Times of Israel mentioned the missing plane and hinted at his heroics. We said there might be a lesson to be learned or simply a tale worth re-telling. He waved his hand dismissively, but, fresh from Pilates and in a rush to finish his chores before setting off for Chile the next day to visit a newborn grandson, the 83-year-old pilot agreed to deliver the abridged version of events. On September 6, 1970, Bar-Lev, who had flown as a 16-year-old in the 1948 War of Independence and later during the 1956 War, was picked up from his Amsterdam hotel and brought to Schiphol airport to fly the second leg of El Al Flight 219 from Tel Aviv to New York. Before take-off, El Al’s security officer on duty at the airport told the pilot that there were four suspicious people seeking to board the flight. Two held Senegalese passports with consecutive numbers; two others, a couple, carried less suspicious looking Honduran passports, but all had ordered their tickets at the last minute.Bar-Lev, in consultation with the security officer, barred the Senegalese passengers from boarding and demanded that the local security officers closely inspect the two Honduran nationals before allowing them to board.Although at the time he did not know that no such inspection had been performed, he stopped at seat 2C and had a chat with Avihu Kol, one of the two armed security officers on the plane. “I told him, I want you in the cockpit with me,” Bar-Lev said.Kol was alone in first class. He might as well have been wearing a sign that said air marshal. “Someone could just come up behind him and shoot him in the head,” Bar-Lev said, recalling that Kol had warned him about just such a scenario two weeks before.Skyjackings were not a new phenomenon. During the previous year alone, dozens of planes had been hijacked. Yet El Al was the only airline in the world to field armed guards and re-enforced steel cockpit doors — precautions that had been put in place after the 1968 hijacking of an El Al jet to Algeria, the only time Israel’s national carrier has been hijacked. Kol, though, initially resisted Bar-Lev’s demand that he sit in the cockpit, saying it contradicted his orders. Finally, Bar-Lev pulled rank.

At 29,000 feet, with the plane still climbing, the emergency light flashed in the cockpit. False alarm, one of the crew members said. It happened often. Flight attendants sometimes grazed against the warning panels, sounding the alarm. “No,” Bar-Lev responded, “we’re being hijacked.”Seconds later a flight attendant’s voice came through the intercom: two people, armed with a gun and two grenades, wanted to enter the cockpit. If he didn’t open the door, they would blow up the plane.Bar-Lev sent flight engineer Uri Zach to look through the peep hole. The “Honduran” man, Nicaraguan-American Sandinista supporter Patrick Argüello, a former Fulbright scholar operating on behalf of George Habash’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was holding a gun to a female flight attendant’s head. Uri, she said to the pilot through the locked door, they are going to kill me if you don’t open up.According to the International Air Transport Association rules, Bar-Lev said, a pilot is responsible “for the welfare of his passengers” and therefore must acquiesce to the demands of terrorists. His thinking was just the opposite: acceding will only further endanger the passengers. Giving voice to an unformed thought, he said aloud, “We are not going to be taken hostage.”Sitting in the right-hand seat, having let the co-pilot handle the take-off from Amsterdam, Bar-Lev recalled his mandatory training on the Boeing 707 at the company headquarters several years earlier. The certification training was eight hours long. After six hours, the company instructor told Bar-Lev he was cleared to fly and wondered if he had any other questions. He did. He wanted to know the outer limits of the plane’s capacity. The instructor, a Korean War vet, walked him through some of the maneuvers and explained that the passenger plane was very strong and could endure more than it would seem at first glance.

The plane began to plummet, dropping 10,000 feet in a minute-Bar-Lev told Kol, the air marshal, to hold on tight. He was going to throw the plane into a dive. The negative g-force, akin to the feeling one gets on the downhill section of a roller coaster ride, would accomplish two things: it would lower the plane’s altitude, reducing the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the plane, which would make a bullet hole or a grenade explosion less dangerous; and it would throw the hijackers off their feet. The passengers, he said, were all belted in and would be fine.Bar-Lev lifted the nose of the aircraft, dipped one of the wings, and then tilted the nose down to earth. The plane began to plummet, dropping 10,000 feet in a minute. When he pulled out of the dive, Kol charged through the door and killed Argüello. The second terrorist, Leila Khaled, a Palestinian veteran of previous skyjackings, rolled a grenade forward but it didn’t explode. In her memoir, Bar-Lev said, Khaled claimed to have been violently subdued, but the air marshals found her passed out from the dive and quickly arrested her.“The whole thing took two and a half minutes,” Bar-Lev said. But it was far from over. Three other planes, in what Bar-Lev called a more complex attack than 9-11, had been hijacked. The two men carrying Senegalese passports had commandeered a Pan Am flight and flown it to Egypt. TWA and Swiss Air flights were flown to Jordan. The Shin Bet, via an El Al dispatcher, sent Bar-Lev a terse command: About face. Come home.On board he had two armed Shin Bet officers — Kol, and a second agent who was at the back of the plane — plus a dead man and an internationally wanted terrorist. Pivotally, though, he also learned that Shlomo Vider, the chief flight attendant, had charged the hijackers and been shot several times. Before responding to the Shin Bet’s orders – Bar-Lev didn’t know and wasn’t told about the other hijackings – he called for a doctor to come forward and examine Vider. The most qualified person was a dentist. He ruled that Vider was in stable condition. “I didn’t think so, though,” said Bar-Lev. Vider was pale and though he had been shot, he didn’t seem to be bleeding out, raising concerns about internal bleeding.Bar-Lev told Tel Aviv that Vider didn’t have five hours left in him. He was going to request permission to land in London.Headquarters again ordered him to return to Israel, but Bar-Lev contacted the British authorities and began to descend. En route, he heard the voice of an El Al pilot preparing to take off from Heathrow to Israel. “I told him to switch to the internal frequency,” Bar-Lev said.Speaking quickly and in Hebrew, he told the other pilot the situation and the plan: he would land near him. In the commotion, no one would notice if the two armed Shin Bet marshals slipped through the flight engineer’s maintenance door between the wheels and quickly boarded the Israel-bound plane in the same way. The last thing he needed was for the two to be arrested by the local authorities and possibly charged for killing Argüello. He insisted that he had simply flown the plane throughout and did not know how the Nicaraguan terrorist had died.Bar-Lev had good reason for concern. In February 1969 a Shin Bet air marshal named Mordechai Rachamim had fought off a squad of terrorists attacking an El Al plane in Zurich. After jumping out of the airplane door under fire, apprehending three of the terrorists and killing the fourth, the Swiss authorities, before finally exonerating him, first put him on trial for manslaughter. After Bar-Lev slowed the plane to a stop, the crew welcomed an emergency British medical team on board. Vider, he later learned, reached the local hospital an estimated five minutes from death. But when Bar-Lev tried to close the door and head back to Tel Aviv, several armed agents from the British secret services drew their sidearms and said, “Do not shut that door. You are on the soil of Great Britain.”Bar-Lev and the rest of the crew were taken for interrogation. Asked what he told the British authorities, he said, “I told them nothing.” He insisted that he had simply flown the plane throughout and did not know how the Nicaraguan terrorist had died.An El Al security officer, in the meanwhile, printed tickets for the two Shin Bet air marshals who had slipped onto the Israel-bound flight and, after going through the passenger list repeatedly, the British authorities were forced to let the plane take off.Bar-Lev and the crew were released the following day. The British authorities knew they were lying but could find no proof. Leila Khaled remained in the United Kingdom. She was let out of British custody three weeks later, after a British jet was hijacked on September 9, en route from Bahrain, expressly in order to secure her release. For Bar-Lev, though, the ordeal was still not over. Upon return to Israel, a man he did not recognize took him into a side room and began asking questions: Why had he insisted on bringing the sky marshal into the cockpit? Why had he refused a direct order to return to Tel Aviv? Why had he dismissed the dentist’s assessment? The next day, El Al Director General Mordechai Ben-Ari told him that the Shin Bet would not provide security for Israel’s national air carrier so long as he remained an active pilot. Ben-Ari tried to convince him to take a year off, to pacify the Shin Bet, and then return to service.“In those days, though,” Bar-Lev said, “you could still call the prime minister.”He phoned Golda Meir and asked to explain his side of the story. After giving his version of events to Meir, Moshe Dayan and the head of the Shin Bet at the time, he was given a two-week holiday and then reinstated, with honors for bravery.Several months after that, then-transportation minister Shimon Peres helped pass a new law that gave pilots the right to resist hijackings and immunity against foreign lawsuits, such as the one Pan Am filed against Bar-Lev for not alerting the airline to the danger posed by the two Senegalese men and the one the British authorities briefly pursued – to charge Bar-Lev as an accomplice to murder.Today, though, he said, despite the thousands of deaths caused by airline terror since that day in September 1970, there is still not a consensus among airlines that pilots are part of the inner circle of protection against terror. Lamenting the tragedy of 9/11, and the way 2,977 innocent people were killed by 19 hijackers wielding household objects such as penknives, he said the “formula for prevention” is for the crew to be trained, in mind more than in body, to resist.“As long as you know you’re not going to allow it to happen, then you’ll find the way,” he said.

DAY 22 MH370 - MISSING PLANE - NEW SEARCH AREA - NUMBER OF DEBRIS PICKED UP

JEWISH KING JESUS IS COMING AT THE RAPTURE FOR US IN THE CLOUDS-DON'T MISS IT FOR THE WORLD.THE BIBLE TAKEN LITERALLY- WHEN THE PLAIN SENSE MAKES GOOD SENSE-SEEK NO OTHER SENSE-LEST YOU END UP IN NONSENSE.

THE MISSING PLANE MH370 SITUATION AT 9:45AM SAT MAR 29,2014

THE AREA IS 123,000 SQUARE MILES WERE THEY ARE NOW LOOKING.2 SHIPS PICKED UP SOME ITEMS-BUT WE WERE NOT TOLD IF IT IS DEBRIS OR PLANE PARTS.AND THE CHINESE SAW 3 COLORED ONJECTS YESTERDAY.

AT THE BEGGINING FOR THE FIRST FEW DAYS I REMEMBER THEY THOUGHT THE PLANE ONLY WENT FOR 4 HOURS.OR BETWEEN 1,500 TO 3,000 KM.I WONDER IF THEY SHOULD TRY LOOKING AT THE 4 HOUR MARK OF THE FLIGHT INCASE SOMETHING HAPPENED AT THAT POINT.MAYBE.I'M JUST THROWING ANOTHER THOUGHT OUT THERE.SO WE CAN TRY TO FIND THAT PLANE SOMEHOW.TO GIVE CLOSURE TO THE POOR FAMILIES.

I WONDER IF THE MH370 AFTER THE HIJACK-THEN THE TURN THEN AROUND THE 4 HOUR MARK MANAGED TO LAND SOMEWHERE IN INDONESIA-UNLOAD THE FREESCALE WORKERS.THEN TOOK BACK OFF BEFORE THE PING COULD KNOW THEY WERE ON LAND.AND EITHER ONE OF THE PILOTS OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE THEN DRIVEN THE PLANE WITH THE OTHER PASSENGERS OUT TO THE INDIAN OCEAN FOR A SUICIDE MISSION.THE IMAGINATIONS ARE ENDLESS WHAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO THE PLANE.AND I'M JUST THROWING ANYTHING OUT THERE.

Chinese ships search new area for Malaysian plane
By Jane Wardell and Matt Siegel 3 hours ago-MAR 29,14-Yahoonews

SYDNEY/PERTH (Reuters) - Chinese ships trawled a new area in the Indian Ocean for a missing Malaysian passenger jet on Saturday, as the search for Flight MH370 entered its fourth week amid a series of false dawns over sightings of debris.Australian authorities coordinating the operation moved the search 1,100 km (685 miles) north on Friday after new analysis of radar and satellite data concluded the Malaysia Airlines plane travelled faster and for a shorter distance after vanishing from civilian radar screens on March 8.A Chinese military aircraft spotted three suspicious objects on Saturday in the new search area some 1,850 km (1,150 miles) west of Perth, colored white, red and orange respectively, the official Xinhua news agency said. That sighting follows reports of "multiple objects of various colors" by international flight crews on Friday, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). Some looked like they were from fishing boats and nothing could be confirmed until they were recovered by ships, it added."We're hopeful to relocate some of the objects we were seeing yesterday," Royal New Zealand Air Force Squadron Leader Flight Lieutenant Leon Fox told Reuters before flying out to the search zone on an Orion P-3. "Hopefully some of the ships in the area will be able to start picking it up and give us an indication of what we were seeing."The Chinese navy vessel Jinggangshan, which carries two helicopters, reached the new search area early on Saturday where it was expected to focus on searching for plane surfaces, oil slicks and life jackets in a sea area of some 6,900 sq km, state news agency Xinhua reported.Another four Chinese vessels and one from Australia were on the way but would not arrive until late in the day.Malaysia says the Boeing 777, which vanished less than an hour into a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was likely diverted deliberately but investigators have turned up no apparent motive or other red flags among the 227 passengers or the 12 crew.U.S. officials close to the investigation said the FBI found nothing illuminating in data it had received from computer equipment used by MH370's pilots, including a home-made flight simulator. The search has involved more than two dozen countries and 60 aircraft and ships but has been bedeviled by regional rivalries and an apparent reluctance to share potentially crucial information due to security concerns. Two Malaysian military aircraft, which arrived in Perth on Saturday, are expected to join the search party for the first time on Sunday.

FAMILY PROTESTS

The Malaysian government has come under strong criticism from China, home to more than 150 of the passengers, where relatives of the missing have accused the government of "delays and deception".More than 20 Chinese relatives staged a brief protest on Saturday outside the Lido hotel in Beijing where families have been staying for the past three weeks, demanding evidence of the plane's fate. The peaceful protest came just days after dozens of angry relatives clashed with police after trying to storm the Malaysian embassy. Many of Saturday's protesters carried slogans demanding the "truth" about their lost loved ones."They don't have any direct evidence," said Steve Wang, who had a relative on the flight. "(Their conclusion) is only based on mathematical (analysis) and they used an uncertain mathematical model. Then they come to the conclusion that our relatives are all gone."Malaysia's acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said his country was committed to seeing the investigation through to its final conclusion."What they want from us is a commitment to continue the search, and that I have given, not only on behalf of the Malaysian government but the so many nations involved," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur after speaking with families on Saturday.

SHIFTING SEARCH

For more than a week, ships and surveillance planes had been scouring seas 2,500 km (1,550 miles) southwest of Perth, where satellite images had shown possible debris from Flight MH370. That search zone has now been abandoned. In the first week of the search, Vietnamese, Chinese and Malaysia ships and planes concentrated their efforts in the South China Sea.The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said the latest shift north was based on analysis of radar data between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca. At that time, the Boeing 777 was making a radical diversion west from its course.Malaysian officials said the new search area was the result of a painstaking analysis of Malaysian military radar data and satellite readings from British company Inmarsat carried out by U.S., Chinese, British and Malaysian investigators.Engine performance analysis by the plane's manufacturer Boeing helped investigators determine how long the plane could have flown before it ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean thousands of miles off course, they said.Officials close to the investigation told Reuters last week that the plane may have passed close to Port Blair, the capital of India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 550 miles further northwest from where Malaysia has said its military radar last detected it.At around 319,000 sq km (123,000 sq miles) - roughly the size of Poland - the new search area is larger, but closer to Perth, allowing aircraft to spend longer on site. It is also favorable in terms of the weather as it is out of the deep sea region known as the Roaring 40s for its huge seas and frequent storm-force winds.Searchers have perhaps a week to find debris, calculate the likely crash area and find the aircraft's voice and data "black boxes" before batteries showing their location run out.(Additional reporting by Michael Martina in Perth, Niluksi Koswanage and Rujun Shen in Kuala Lumpur, Mark Hosenball in Washington, Lincoln Feast in Sydney, Paul Carsten and Xihao Jiang in Beijing; Writing by Jane Wardell; Editing by Dean Yates and Jeremy Laurence)

U.S. Gives Russia Free Military Equipment Used By Army, Marines
March 26, 2014 |-Judicial watch Blog

Behind closed doors the U.S. government is giving Russia free military equipment—also used to train American troops—even after President Obama announced punitive sanctions against Moscow and, more importantly, a suspension in military engagement over the invasion and occupation of Ukraine. The secret operation was exposed this week by members of Congress that discovered it in the process of reviewing the Fiscal Year 2014 budget and the proposed Fiscal Year 2015 budget request. It turns out that the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has been providing the Russian Federation with the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES), the federal legislators say. The U.S. military uses MILES for tactical force-on-force training because it has a system of lasers and dummy ammunition to simulate ground combat. It’s a crucial, military-grade technology that’s similar to a “laser tag” available in some commercial markets, according to one of the outraged lawmakers (Oklahoma Republican Jim Bridenstine) that helped uncover the scandal. Bridenstine, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has joined forces with Ohio Republican Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, to demand an end to the program. Along with about a dozen other House colleagues they penned a letter to Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, who oversees the agency carrying out the “irresponsible military equipment transfers” to Russia. The Obama administration’s planned supply to the Russian Federation is a grave mistake given the recent invasion of Ukraine launched by Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, the legislators point out. “It is difficult to imagine a worse time to provide military- grade technology employed by the U.S. Marine Corps, Army, and Special Operations Forces to Russia than when it has illegally invaded Ukraine and is violating the intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty,” the letter to Moniz says. “To make matters worse, it is our understanding from the budget documents that the Department has been, and continues to propose, providing this technology to Russia free-of-charge.”This is preposterous and borders on criminal if you really think about it. As if we need reminding, Congressman Turner recants Putin’s “brazen disregard for the sovereignty and stability of Eastern Europe” as well as his disregard for international law. “Despite this overwhelming evidence that Putin is not our ally, it is astonishing that the Obama Administration would still provide superior, U.S. military technology to an aggressive and advancing Russia,” Turner said. “The United States must seriously redirect its approach and immediately terminate all military aid to Russia.”President Obama has already proven to be an international joke for his response to the worsening crisis in Ukraine. Even the mainstream media in this country has blasted the commander-in-chief’s foreign policy as based on fantasy. One famously liberal magazine published a satirical article saying that the Obama administration froze Putin’s Netflix account as a “major ramping up of sanctions.” In a piece published a few days ago, a former veteran congressman wrote this: “The embarrassment of U.S. impotence in dealing with Russian aggression in the Ukraine is only the beginning of what will likely be a series of foreign policy disasters.”

Russia has no intention of sending troops to Ukraine: Lavrov
2 hours ago-MAR 29,14-Yahoonews

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian said on Saturday it had no intention of sending its armed forces into Ukraine, signaling Moscow wants to ease tensions in the worst East-West standoff since the Cold war.Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reinforced a message from President Vladimir Putin that Russia will settle - at least for now - for annexing Crimea, although it has thousands of troops near Ukraine's eastern border."We have absolutely no intention of - or interest in - crossing Ukraine's borders," Lavrov told a Russian television channel. He added, however, that Russia was ready to protect the rights of Russian speakers, referring to what Moscow sees as threats to the lives of compatriots in eastern Ukraine since Moscow-backed Viktor Yanukovich was deposed as president. The West imposed sanctions on Russia, including visa bans for some of Putin's inner circle, after Moscow annexed Crimea following a referendum on union with the Russian Federation which the West said was illegal. The West has threatened tougher sanctions targeting Russia's stuttering economy if Moscow sends more troops to Ukraine. In a sign that Putin is ready to ease tensions in the worst East-West standoff since the Cold War, Putin called U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday to discuss a U.S. diplomatic proposal for Ukraine. The White House said Obama told Putin that Russia must pull back its troops and not move deeper into Ukraine. The Kremlin said Putin had suggested "examining possible steps the global community can take to help stabilize the situation," and said the foreign ministers of the two countries would discuss this soon. The U.N. General Assembly on Thursday passed a non-binding resolution declaring invalid Crimea's Moscow-backed referendum earlier this month on seceding from Ukraine, in a vote that Western nations said highlighted Russia's isolation. Both Russia and West accused each other of using threats to affect the vote.(Reporting by Katya Golubkova, Editing by Timothy Heritage)

IDF Eliminates Terrorists Near Syrian Border-IDF soldiers shoot and hit two terrorists who tried to infiltrate into Israel in the Golan Heights.By Elad Benari, Canada-First Publish: 3/28/2014, 11:35 PM-Israelnationalnews

IDF soldiers were able to prevent two terrorists from infiltrating into Israel in the Golan Heights, near the border with Syria, on Friday night.According to the IDF, the soldiers identified two suspects tampering with the security fence along the border. It is believed they also tried to place an explosive device. The troops open fired, hitting the two terrorists."The IDF will continue to protect the border and prevent attacks,” said the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit in a statement quoted by Channel 2 News.Friday’s incident comes only one day after the IDF Northern Command announced that it was changing its orders regarding opening fire in areas along the Golan border fence. Anyone from the Syrian side who comes near the fence should expect to be shot, the IDF said.Previously, soldiers would fire in the air to warn off and ward off suspicious figures. As per the new orders, soldiers will immediately open fire in the direction of suspicious looking characters. There have been heightened tensions along the Israel-Syria border in recent weeks. Last week, an explosive device went off on the Golan Heights, as an IDF jeep was passing by.Three soldiers were wounded in the attack and were taken to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa. One of them sustained serious injuries in the explosion. The Israel Air Force (IAF) retaliated several hours later, striking several targets on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights which had aided and abetted the attack against the soldiers. Two weeks ago, also on a Friday night, an explosive device went off as IDF soldiers patrolled near the Lebanese border. No one was injured in that incident, although three soldiers were treated for shock at Ziv Hospital in Tzfat. The following day, Saturday, IDF soldiers identified several individuals approaching the border in a suspected attempt to set another explosive. The soldiers fired on the suspects, who fled.(Arutz Sheva’s North American Desk is keeping you updated until the start of Shabbat in New York. Netanyahu told Kerry gov’t could fall if prisoners released’-US urged Abbas in vain to extend talks, telling him Israel fears coalition will disintegrate over Arab Israeli inmates, PA sources say-By Yifa Yaakov and AFP March 29, 2014, 10:44 am 18-The Times of Israel
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told US Secretary of State John Kerry that he fears his coalition could fall apart if Israel frees a fourth batch of Palestinian prisoners who were slated for release this weekend — among them 14 Israeli Arabs.Citing sources in the Palestinian Authority, the London-based pan-Arab al-Hayat newspaper reported Saturday that US negotiators had told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas Netanyahu feared his coalition, which includes the right-wing Jewish Home and Yisrael Beytenu parties, might disintegrate over the prisoner release.Kerry and US special Middle East envoy Martin Indyk relayed Netanyahu’s fears to Abbas in order to convince him to accept the postponement of the prisoner release, the sources said. The US negotiators reportedly urged Abbas to agree to extend peace negotiations beyond the April 29 deadline before the 30 prisoners are released. Netanyahu has insisted agreement be reached for extending the talks before the prisoners can go free, and has ruled out releasing Israeli Arab inmates. However, Abbas refused, insisting that the prisoners must be released before the Palestinian Authority can discuss prolonging the talks.Meanwhile Saturday, a senior Palestinian official said the release by Israel of Arab prisoners would not go ahead on Saturday as envisaged but he hoped there would only be a short delay.“Today the prisoners will not be released… maybe in the coming days,” Issa Qaraqae, the minister of prisoner affairs, told AFP.“We have told the families of the prisoners that they will not be released today,” he added.”“There are efforts to solve the crisis and I believe that in 24 hours everything will be clearer.”Under the deal that relaunched peace talks last July, Israel agreed to release 104 Arabs held since before the 1993 Oslo peace accords in exchange for the Palestinians not pressing their statehood claims at the United Nations. So far, Israel has freed 78 prisoners in three batches but ministers had warned they would block the final release, which had been anticipated for Saturday, if the Palestinians refused to extend the talks beyond their April 29 deadline. There has been no official Israeli update on the last batch of prisoners, which the Palestinians want to include Arab Israeli citizens, a demand hotly opposed by Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partners and by hardliners within his own Likud party. The cabinet convenes on Sunday morning for its weekly meeting. A special ministerial panel needs to approve any releases 48 hours before they go ahead, to leave time for petitions against the releases to the Supreme Court. Palestinian official Jibril Rajoub, a member of Fatah’s central committee, told AFP Friday that “the Israeli government has informed us through the American mediator that it will not abide with its commitment to release the fourth batch of Palestinian prisoners scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 29.”The peace talks have been teetering on the brink of collapse, with Washington fighting an uphill battle to get the two sides to agree to a framework for continued negotiations until the end of the year.Kerry met Abbas in Amman on Wednesday in a bid to salvage the talks, with US special envoy Martin Indyk meeting the Palestinian leader in Ramallah a day later.State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki on Friday denied reports that negotiations had already collapsed.“Any reports that suggest the talks are off are inaccurate,” she told journalists covering a visit to Saudi Arabia by Kerry and President Barack Obama.“Ambassador Indyk and the negotiating team remain closely engaged with both parties on the ground and will continue to work over the coming days to help them bridge the gaps and determine the path forward.”Israeli media say Netanyahu could give a green light to the prisoner release if the US frees Jonathan Pollard, who was arrested in Washington in 1985 and condemned to life imprisonment for spying on the United States for Israel.Israel is not commenting on such reports, with Netanyahu spokesman Mark Regev saying only that in general the spy’s fate is “often raised at high-level meetings between Israelis and Americans.”On Wednesday, Psaki said “there are currently no plans to release Jonathan Pollard.”

PA: Israel Will Regret Not Releasing the Terrorists-Fatah official says the international community will hold Israel responsible for hurting the peace process by not releasing terrorists.-By Elad Benari, Canada-First Publish: 3/28/2014, 10:55 PM-Israelnationalnews

The Palestinian Authority (PA) said Friday that Israel would regret its decision not to go through with the release of the fourth batch of terrorists it undertook to release as a “gesture” to the PA.Fatah official Hazem Abu Shanab told the PA-based Ma’an news agency that the release of the final group of terrorists would be pivotal in determining the future of Israeli-PA relations. He added that the international community will be inclined to hold Israel responsible for hindering the peace process."The release of prisoners is a legitimate, lawful, and human right. Their freedom should not be linked to concessions regarding extending or continuing the diplomatic process," Abu Shanab told Ma'an.Earlier, Israel announced it would not go through with the fourth and final batch of terrorist releases, which was scheduled for Saturday night.PA official Jibril Rajoub told the AFP news agency that Israel had informed the PA through American mediator Martin Indyk that it will not release the fourth batch of terrorists, adding that the move was a "slap in the face of the U.S. administration and its efforts." Nevertheless, the United States later denied that the peace effort it has led between Israel and the PA had failed."Any reports that suggest the talks are off are inaccurate," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told journalists."Ambassador Indyk and the negotiating team remain closely engaged with both parties on the ground and will continue to work over the coming days to help them bridge the gaps and determine the path forward," she added. The release, intended as a "gesture" to promote the stalled peace talks, has been widely protested in Israel. Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon threatened to resign if the move went through. So far Israel has released 78 of the promised 104 terrorists; many of the terrorists were convicted of murdering Israeli citizens.Much of the objection to the fourth release came after the PA chief negotiator, Saeb Erekat, admitted earlier this month that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas was staying in talks solely for the sake of the terrorist releases.Abbas has set the terrorist release, as well as a construction freeze in Judea and Samaria, as a condition for continued talks. Rajoub on Friday reiterated PA threats to take unilateral moves for recognition at the UN next week, in breach of conditions of the peace talks, due to the release not occurring."Not releasing the prisoners will mark the beginning of the efforts in the international community to challenge the legality of the occupation," he stated.(Arutz Sheva’s North American Desk is keeping you updated until the start of Shabbat in New York. Erdogan’s fight against a shadow enemy-The Turkish PM suspects his nemesis, a 73-year-old cleric, of running a ‘deep state’ from rural Pennsylvania-By Philippe ALFROY March 29, 2014, 2:29 pm-The Times of Israel

ISTANBUL (AFP) — Embroiled in political turmoil, Turkey’s leader has declared war on a shadowy enemy, a Muslim cleric he accuses of running a parallel “deep state” from faraway rural Pennsylvania.Out on the campaign trail ahead of Sunday’s local elections, there are few doubts about who Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has in mind when he vows to “liquidate” his foes.
His declared nemesis is the moustachioed 73-year-old imam Fethullah Gulen, an estranged former ally turned alleged puppet-master plotting the strongman’s downfall. For months, Erdogan has faced the worst crisis of his much lauded 11-year-rule, weathering massive street protests, an explosive corruption scandal and a stuttering economy. His Islamic-leaning government has endured a barrage of damaging online leaks, with tales of sleaze and graft going viral on Twitter, Facebook and Erdogan has responded by lashing out at “traitors” and “terrorists”, while alienating Western allies with draconian curbs on social media. As he faces the first ballot-box test since the crisis started in June, he has bitterly vowed to pursue his adversaries “into their caves”.Erdogan and Gulen were once close allies who transformed a political landscape that had for decades been the domain of secularists and coup-happy generals. With a strong popular appeal among conservative Muslims tired of the era of “military tutelage,” Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) took power in 2002 and has won every election since. Both faithful and pro-business, the AKP presided over a building boom and dynamic economy as Turkey earned plaudits abroad as a model Muslim democracy and emerging global player. If the AKP delivered stunning ballot-box muscle, Gulen provided the technocrats for the bureaucracy, tapping into what is part religious movement, part business empire.Gulenists, known for their piety and business acumen, say their faith seeks to merge a “civil Islam” with modernity, science and Turkish nationalism.Gulen fled to the US in 1999 to escape charges of “anti-secular” activities. He now heads a foundation which runs a range of media outlets, cultural centres and schools. Its Hizmet (Service) educational network operates schools in 150 countries, encouraging civility and diligence and promoting a modern and tolerant Islam. In Turkey it runs pre-university cram schools called Dershanes, whose loyal alumni have been prominently placed in the police and justice apparatus.“We don’t prepare for exams only, we prepare them for life,” said spokesman Faruk Akdic. Students, he said, learn “kindness, universal law, not to be corrupt, not to steal … to become role models”.Many point to the opaque nature of the tight-knit movement.“Nothing is transparent,” said Sinan Ulgen of the Edam research centre. “We do not know who takes orders from whom. They have infiltrated the entire system, both in the executive and in justice and law enforcement.”Erdogan, a former semi-pro footballer and Istanbul mayor, is dubbed admiringly the “tall man” or “sultan” by his loyal followers, but critics accuse him of having drifted toward “one-man rule”.When police cracked down on protesters in June in clashes that left eight people dead and thousands wounded, Gulen newspapers provided comprehensive coverage. The Gulen-linked Journalists and Writers Foundation warned that Turkey risks losing “its character as a state governed by the rule of law”.Its vice president Cemal Usak told AFP that claims the “respected doctor” Gulen is pulling strings are false, stressing that “we’ve never done and never will do politics”.In an escalating feud, Erdogan in November threatened to close down Gulenist cram schools, gloating that “they are going to lose $1 billion annual income,” a move parliament approved this month. The massive corruption scandal that erupted in December was, most Turks believe, payback time.Dozens of the premier’s political and business allies were detained. The allegations, backed by a spate of online leaks, ranged from bribery to gold smuggling and illicit trade with Iran.Erdogan responded by purging thousands of police and prosecutors, while the government tightened controls over the judiciary and the Internet.Gulen, who rarely gives interviews, charged in a comment piece in the Financial Times this month that “a small group within the government’s executive branch is holding to ransom the entire country’s progress”.In the past week, the gloves truly came off, when a clandestine recording appeared on YouTube of a high-level security meeting debating possible military action in Syria. The dust is unlikely to settle any time soon. With parliamentary and presidential elections on the horizon, Erdogan faces a long season of campaigning even after Sunday’s local elections, and rumous are flying of more leaks on the way. The battle for control in Turkey is far from over

Dempsey to meet with Ya’alon in Jerusalem-Amid spat between defense minister and Obama administration, US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman to visit Israel-By Times of Israel staff March 29, 2014, 12:58 pm 0

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey is due to visit Israel next week amid ongoing tensions caused by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon’s disparaging comments towards the Obama administration. On Sunday, Dempsey will arrive in Jerusalem, where he will meet with Ya’alon in person, Reuters reported. As of Saturday, the US was still waiting for a formal apology from Ya’alon for comments he made last week, in which he accused the Obama administration of being weak on Iran.State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters more than a week ago that the US was “disappointed with the lack of apology” from Ya’alon, despite the fact that he spoke with Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, and issued a statement indicating regret over his statements.“We still have remaining concerns about Ya’alon’s pattern of behavior,” she said. “I think we clearly expressed our displeasure by his offensive comments and an apology would be a natural next step.”Israel’s Channel 2 last week quoted a senior, unnamed American source complaining about Ya’alon’s “insulting and disappointing” comments about figures in the administration. The same report suggested that the Obama administration, in keeping the dispute alive, was trying to “delegitimize” Ya’alon, who holds hawkish positions on dealing with the Palestinians. The defense minister said in a TV interview earlier this month that Mahmoud Abbas was “not a partner” for a viable permanent accord and that he did not expect to see peace in his lifetime.According to a statement issued by Ya’alon’s office, he told Hagel that he had no intention of harming the US or ties with it. The ostensible apology was Ya’alon’s second in two months for remarks knocking the Obama administration.“In my statements, there was no antagonism or criticism or intent to harm the United States or [Israel’s] relations with it,” he said. “The strategic relationship between the two countries as well as the personal relationship and mutual interests are of utmost importance. I value the relationship at all levels, between Israel and the United States in general and the security establishment in particular.”Ya’alon 12 days ago had questioned the US administration’s commitment to Israel’s security, saying Israel would have to act alone to thwart Tehran’s nuclear drive. The statements, delivered in a closed event at a university but promptly leaked, provoked a harsh response from the US, with Secretary of State John Kerry calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in protest.“It is certainly confusing to us why Defense Minister Ya’alon would continue his pattern of making comments that don’t accurately represent the scope of our close partnership on a range of security issues and on the enduring partnership between the United States and Israel,” Psaki had told reporters.According to the defense minister’s statement, Ya’alon told Hagel, “I have a very deep appreciation for the relationship between [Israel and the US] and for you personally. I greatly admired these relations even as Chief of Staff and I appreciate them to this day as defense minister, and I am aware of their full depth and significance. I have a total commitment to these relations and to [advancing] the cooperation between Israel and the United States in every way.”Hagel was said to have been empathetic in talking to Ya’alon, and suggested that some of his remarks might have been taken out of context, Israel’s Channel 2 news reported. However, a statement issued by the US Defense Department stopped short of referring to Ya’alon’s call as an apology, instead saying that Hagel thanked the defense minister for his clarification. Two months ago, Ya’alon was also forced to issue an apology to Kerry over private comments in which the minister blasted the top American diplomat, among other critiques, for his “inexplicably obsessive” and “messianic” efforts to produce an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.

Relatives demand Malaysia retract conclusion that MH370 'ended in Indian Ocean'-UPDATED : Thursday, 27 March, 2014, 1:28pm-Li Jing and Mandy Zuo-South China Morning Post

With no wreckage found, several relatives of mainland passengers aboard missing flight MH370 demanded yesterday for Malaysian officials to retract their statement that the plane had "ended in the southern Indian Ocean", as tension between the families and authorities escalated. At a meeting with Malaysian official delegates at Beijing's Metropark Lido Hotel, about 200 angry relatives questioned Kuala Lumpur's conclusion that the plane had crashed in the Indian Ocean, leaving no survivors. The delegation - which included Iskandar Sarudin, Malaysia's ambassador to China, along with an airline representative, an air marshal and air vice-marshal - explained the government's conclusions, but offered no additional information. The representatives refused to answer family members' technical questions and instead said they would take those queries and concerns - including their demand for a retraction - to investigators in Kuala Lumpur. Is there any possibility that the British organisation made a wrong conclusion?

A RELATIVE

One female family member told the Malaysian representatives that the plane's path depicted on British investigators' charts appeared not to match Malaysian military radar. She also expressed doubts about the accuracy of calculations made by British satellite company Inmarsat, which, using a new method, estimated the plane's location. No debris has been found."Is there any possibility that the British organisation made a wrong conclusion as they are using the calculation method for the first time?" she asked.Another relative said he blamed Malaysia's military for failing to communicate with the plane when it appeared on military radar. "If you ever made an inquiry to the pilot, all of us would not need to be here now," he said.A Royal Malaysian Air Force lieutenant general whose name was not announced explained that the radar operator identified the craft as a friendly "blip", but added that the incident was under investigation. Many relatives have pleaded with Malaysian officials to intensify their search efforts. The delegation said the search had been beefed up southwest of Perth, Australia. "We still have not ruled out hijacking. We have not ruled out any scenario," the ambassador, said.Family members also said they were furious that volunteer counsellors initially sent by Malaysia Airlines had not visited the hotel since Monday. Airline CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya had said 700 volunteers would offer support and counselling to relatives around the clock. An airline representative said Beijing had advised Malaysian volunteers to stay away from the hotel for their safety."This was because the situation was out of control after the announcement was made on Monday night," he said. Some mainland family members in Kuala Lumpur were trying to persuade other relatives in Beijing to fly to the Malaysian capital to press for answers on the missing plane."The Malaysian government is afraid of organised, influential protests by us because the media from across the world is here," said Li Peng, a relative from China who flew to Kuala Lumpur. About a dozen mainland relatives flew there after the plane disappeared on March 8.In Hong Kong, more than 100 people - some who knew passengers on the missing flight - have sought help from a local counselling charity.Post Crisis Counselling Network executive director Timothy To Wing-ching said a hotline would serve employees at three multinational firms. Staff there knew some passengers. In addition, four crisis counsellors are scheduled to answer calls from the public from 10am to 6pm until April 30. The number is 5181 5501.Additional reporting by Danny Mok

Friday, March 28, 05:45 PM MYT +0800 Malaysia Airlines MH370 Flight Incident - Press Briefing by Hishammuddin Hussein, Minister of Defence and Acting Minister of Transport

Introductory statement-Malaysian airlines Investigation team-Mar 28,14

Today, the search for MH370 has been further refined. The international investigation team continue working to narrow the search area, and shed further light on MH370’s flight path.We are, as always, grateful for the continuing co-operation of our partners in this difficult and intensive search.
Whilst search operations are on-going, we continue to focus our efforts on caring for the families. In Cabinet this morning, we discussed the importance of continuing to support the relatives of the passengers and crew.

1.  Refined search area
On Monday, the Prime Minister announced that based on new data analysis, Inmarsat and the AAIB had concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth. On Tuesday, I confirmed that further study of this data would be undertaken to attempt to determine the final position of the aircraft. The Malaysian investigation team set up an international working group, comprising agencies with expertise in satellite communications and aircraft performance, to take this work forward. The international working group included representatives from the UK, namely Inmarsat, AAIB, and Rolls Royce; from China, namely the CAAC and AAID; from the US, namely the NTSB, FAA, and Boeing; as well as the relevant Malaysian authorities. The group has been working to refine the Inmarsat data, and to analyse it – together with other information, including radar data and aircraft performance assumptions – to narrow the search area.Information which had already been examined by the investigation was re-examined in light of new evidence drawn from the Inmarsat data analysis.
In addition, international partners – who continue to process data in their home countries, as well as in the international working group – have further refined existing data. They have also come up with new technical information, for example on aircraft performance.Yesterday, this process yielded new results, which indicated that MH370 flew at a higher speed than previously thought, which in turn means it used more fuel and could not travel as far. This information was passed to RCC Australia by the NTSB, to help further refine and narrow the search area. The Australian authorities have indicated that they have shifted the search area approximately 1,100 kilometres to the north east. Because of ocean drift, this new search area could still be consistent with the potential objects identified by various satellite images over the past week. This work is on-going, and we can expect further refinements. As the Australian authorities indicated this morning, this is standard practice in a search operation. It is a process of continually refining data which in turn further narrows the search area. With each step, we get closer to understanding MH370’s flight path.Searches must be conducted on the best information available at the time. In the search for MH370, we have consistently followed the evidence, and acted on credible leads. Our search and rescue efforts have been directed by verified and corroborated information. This latest refinement of the search area is no different.

2.  Satellite images
Last night, Japanese authorities announced they had satellite images which showed a number of floating objects approximately 2,500 kilometres southwest of Perth. Early this morning we received separate satellite imagery from the Thai authorities which also showed potential objects. These new satellite images join those released by Australia, China, France, and Malaysia, all of which are with RCC Australia. The range of potential objects, and the difficulty in re-identifying them shows just how complex this investigation is. We remain grateful to all our partners for continuing to assist in the search operations.

3.  Concluding remarks
The new search area, approximately 1,680 kilometres west of Perth, remains in the Australian area of responsibility.Australia continues to lead the search efforts in this new area, and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority gave a comprehensive operational update earlier today. As more information emerges, they will be issuing frequent operational updates, including on assets deployed.I would like to echo their statements that the new search area, although more focused than before, remains considerable; and that the search conditions, although easier than before, remain challenging. For the families of those on board, we pray that further processing of data, and further progress in the search itself, brings us closer to finding MH370.

Search for lost Malaysian jet shifts significantly after new lead
By Jane Wardell and Michael Martina 4 hours ago-MAR 28,14-YAHOONEWS

SYDNEY/PERTH (Reuters) - An international air and sea taskforce hunting for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 was re-directed on Friday to an area 1,100 km (685 miles) north of where they have been searching for more than a week, after Australian authorities received new radar information from Malaysia. The dramatic shift in the search area, moving it further than the distance between London and Berlin, followed analysis of radar data that showed the missing plane had travelled faster, and so would have run out of fuel quicker, than previously thought. The new search area is larger, but closer to the Australian west coast city of Perth, allowing aircraft to spend longer on site by shortening travel times. It is also vastly more favorable in terms of the weather as it is out of the deep sea region known as the Roaring 40s for its huge seas and frequent storm-force winds."I'm not sure that we'll get perfect weather out there, but it's likely to be better more often than what we've seen in the past," John Young, general manager of the emergency response division of Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), told reporters, adding the previous search site was being abandoned."We have moved on from those search areas to the newest credible lead," he said. For more than a week, ships and surveillance planes have been scouring seas 2,500 km (1,550 miles) southwest of Perth, where satellite images had suggested there could be debris from Flight MH370, which went missing on March 8 with 239 people aboard.Ten aircraft searching on Friday were immediately re-directed to the new area of 319,000 sq km (123,000 sq miles), roughly the size of Poland, around 1,850 km (1,150 miles) west of Perth. The Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation was also redirecting satellites there, AMSA said.A flotilla of Australian and Chinese ships would take longer to shift north, however, with the Australian naval ship the HMAS Success not due to arrive until Saturday morning. The shift was based on analysis of radar data between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said.At that time, the Boeing 777 was making a radical diversion west from its course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.ATSB Chief Commissioner Martin Dolan said radar and satellite polling data had been combined with information about the likely performance of the aircraft, speed and fuel consumption in particular, to arrive at the best assessment of the area in which the aircraft was likely to have entered the water. An international investigative team continued to analyze the data, Dolan said, which "could result in further refinement of the potential flight path of MH370".

SHIFTING SEARCHES

The latest twist underscores the perplexing and frustrating hunt for evidence in the near three-week search. It comes less than a day after the latest reports of sightings of possible wreckage, captured by Thai and Japanese satellites in roughly the same frigid expanse of sea as earlier images reported by France, Australia and China.Satellite images had shown suspected debris, including pieces as large as 24 meters (70 ft), within the original search area in the southern Indian Ocean.Potential debris has also been seen from search aircraft, but none has been picked up or confirmed as the wreckage of Flight MH370, which disappeared from civilian radar screens less than an hour after taking off.Officials believe someone on board may have shut off the plane's communications systems before flying it thousands of miles off course, where it crashed into the ocean in one of the most isolated and forbidding regions on the planet.Theories range from a hijacking to sabotage or a possible suicide by one of the pilots, but investigators have not ruled out technical problems. David Brewster, a visiting fellow at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University, said it was surprising that the new data analysis was just coming to light."The Malaysians have never really had to handle a search and rescue operation of this nature before so it is maybe complicated by lack of experience," Brewster said."There is no doubt they haven't got their systems working smoothly in terms of sharing within Malaysian organizations or with neighboring countries."

The U.S. Navy said on Friday it was sending a second P8-Poseidon, its most advanced maritime surveillance aircraft, to help in the search."It's critical to continue searching for debris so we can reverse-forecast the wind, current and sea state since March 8 to recreate the position where MH370 possibly went into the water," said Commander Tom Moneymaker, a U.S. 7th Fleet oceanographer. The United States has also sent a device that can be towed behind a ship to pick up faint pings from the plane's black box voice and data recorders, but time is running out."We've got to get this initial position right prior to deploying the Towed Pinger Locator since the MH370's black box has a limited battery life and we can't afford to lose time searching in the wrong area," Moneymaker said. The prolonged and so far fruitless search and investigation have taken a toll, with dozens of distraught relatives of 150 Chinese passengers clashing with police and accusing Malaysia of "delays and deception".Chinese insurance companies have started paying compensation to the families of passengers, some of the firms and state media said.(Additional reporting by Suilee Wee in Beijing, Niluksi Koswanage in Kuala Lumpur, Stanley White in Tokyo, Amy Sawitta Lefevre in Bangkok and Lincoln Feast in Sydney; Editing by Dean Yates and Alex Richardson)

NEW SEARCH AREA CLOSER TO AUSTRAILIA BY 684 MILES

The updated advice was provided by the international investigation team in Malaysia with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) determining “that this is the most credible lead to where debris may be located”.The new search area is approximately 200,000 square miles and around 1,150 miles west of Perth.
“ATSB advises the potential flight path may be the subject of further refinement as the international investigative team supporting the search continues their analysis,” AMSA said, adding that Australia was repositioning its satellites to the new area.

Russia criticizes U.N. resolution condemning Crimea's secession
1 hour ago-MAR 28,14-YAHOONEWS

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Friday a U.N. resolution declaring invalid Crimea's Moscow-backed referendum on seceding from Ukraine was counterproductive and accused Western states of using blackmail and threats to drum up "yes" votes. The non-binding resolution passed with 100 votes in favor, 11 against and 58 abstentions in the 193-nation U.N. General Assembly on Thursday, in a vote that Western nations said highlighted Russia's isolation."This counterproductive initiative only complicates efforts to resolve the domestic political crisis in Ukraine," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. It accused Western states of using the "the full force of the unspent potential of the Cold War-era propaganda machine" to whip up support for the resolution."It is well-known what kind of shameless pressure, up to the point of political blackmail and economic threats, was brought to bear on a number of (U.N.) member states so they would vote 'yes'," the ministry said.Several Western diplomats, however, have said Russia's U.N. envoy led an aggressive lobbying campaign against the resolution in what they said showed how seriously Moscow took the U.N. vote condemning a referendum that led to its annexation of Crimea.(Reporting by Alissa de Carbonnel, Editing by Timothy Heritage)

Op-Ed: Russia Ups Military Presence in the Mediterranean Sea-Published: Thursday, March 27, 2014 2:30 PM-The writer is witness to news in the making and photographs the event - exclusive to Arutz Sheva.Dr. Mordechai Kedar

Sunday, March 23, was a lovely, warm day in Istanbul, the air lit with a bright, late-March sun. Thousands of people enjoyed the day on the boardwalk along the shore of the Bosporus, on the western side of the city. This writer was there as well, sitting in a fish restaurant teeming with families. The atmosphere was pastoral, seagulls hovered overhead and the crowding cars that normally pack the area seemed less numerous than usual. A feeling of warm-weather vacationing was in the afternoon air and the parts of the boardwalk that met the water line were filled with families. All of a  sudden the pastoral atmosphere was disturbed by the loud sound of super-powerful motors. The restaurant's windows overlooking the Bosporus shook as a gigantic rusty gray ship, with artillery and a Russian name, came into view, hiding the opposite shore. The vessel  was sailing rapidly southward, leaving a trail of foam in its wake. It was a Ropucha-1 large landing craft named Minsk and  numbered 127.  Its companion, the Olenegorsky Goniak, numbered 012,  came into view three minutes later and Kalingrad, numbered 102, followed three minutes after that. Some of the people at the shore gazed at the ships with astonishment, sensing that something special was happening before their eyes, while others paid it no attention.According to the facts that are known about these landing craft, they can carry a 450 ton cargo which may, in addition to soldiers and their personal weapons, include tanks, personnel carriers or any other equipment, armaments and spare parts. The most important detail for us to know is that the cargo can be in the ship's hold, not visible to observers stationed on the mountains overlooking the Bosporus or to flight cameras trying to detect its content. Each ship has two 2.244 inch diameter cannon, one in the bow and one in the stern, where there are also two doors for loading and unloading. The Soviet navy purchased 28 of these ships between the years 1975 and 1991.It should be noted that in August 2012, three landing craft of this type reached the Syrian port of Tartus, apparently bringing armaments to Assad's forces, which, a year and a half earlier, in March 2011, had begun shooting at anti-Assad demonstrators and kept losing ground from then on.Are the three landing craft that passed through the Bosporus Straits to reach the Mediterranean Sea connected to the war  in Syria? Are these ships intended to improve the Syrian Air Force's ability to defend itself on the same  Sunday that a Syrian plane strafing rebels north of Latakia was downed by Turkey? Or is the Russian navy's deployment from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean connected to what is going on in Ukraine and to the battleship that the US moved into the Black Sea? Could it just be ordinary maneuvers unconnected to specific events? I leave the final judgment to my readers on the basis of the photos I took of the three ships. In my opinion, they are in dire need of immediate maintenance. But who am I to teach the Russians what to do?

Sliding Down a Slippery Legal Slope

This week 529 Egyptians were sentenced to death because a policeman was killed during a demonstration in which they took part. This death sentence appears extreme and not for real. Even if someone was murdered in some event, did everyone in the vicinity hold a deadly weapon? Did they all pull the trigger together? It seems as though the Egyptian courts hold anyone nearby, who demonstrated and who in his heart supported the act, responsible.  This puts the courts in a suspicious position, sentencing someone to death because he identifies with a murder.A sneaking suspicion is that the courts do not act according to legal criteria based on facts and proofs, but according to political and public considerations in which people are judged by their appearance and especially by their beards, by their mode of dress and by the demonstration in which they participate. If there is one system in Egypt that has kept its integrity intact during the past three years, it is the judicial system, the one system that most of Egypt trusts is fair, serious, professional, businesslike and guided by objective and non-political criteria. This judgment – and it seems that more are to come for similar reasons – undermines the integrity of the Egyptian judicial system, even in the eyes of those who are against the "Muslim Brotherhood."Defining the defendants as terrorists was meant to declare open season on their lives and feed them to the jaws of the regime that is using the judicial system in the same way Mubarak did, but with greater cruelty due to the conditions prevailing today. Defense Minister Sisi seems to be the winning candidate in the soon-to-be-held elections for president and he wants to close the "Muslim Brotherhood" file before he begins to rule, before what is being done becomes  officially  "his".  Today he can pull the strings from backstage, and he wants to make it as clear as possible that he will not renege on defining the Brothers as terrorists, who deserve – all according to law, of course – the stiffest sentence there is.Except that over 300 of those sentenced to death are not even imprisoned and are held to be evading the law. Will they give themselves up to be thrown into jail and possibly led to the gallows as well, or will they adopt more radical, extreme and dangerous forms of action that might justify labeling them "terrorists". In that event, open war will be declared between the government and the Brothers, bringing the Bagdad and Damascus tragedies to Cairo. Consider yourselves warned.
