Rick Warren to Interview Tony Blair at Saddleback Church
By Katherine T. Phan|Christian Post Reporter

Megachurch pastor Rick Warren will speak to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Egypt and peace in a globalized economy next month at Saddleback Church.Tony Blair Attributes Conversion to Wife, Universal Nature of Catholicism
Blair is very excited about being a guest lecturer at the seventh Saddleback Civil Forum to be held March 6, said the California megachurch pastor on Sunday. We're going to take five letters of the Global PEACE Plan and the five global giants and talk about spiritual emptiness, corrupt leadership, extreme poverty, pandemic diseases, and illiteracy and education. These are the five problems the PEACE Plan is designed to [address], Warren told his congregation. The acronym for the PEACE plan is based on the five actions Jesus modeled: Promote reconciliation; Equip servant leaders; Assist the poor; Care for the sick; and Educate the next generation.

Blair, who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from May 1997-June 2007, is the official envoy on the Middle East peace process, representing the United States, the United Nations, the European Union, and Russia.I'm going to talk to him about Egypt and all the inside information, said Warren.Warren is expected to award Blair with the annual International Medal of PEACE. The award is given to individuals who exemplify outstanding contribution toward alleviating the five global giants.Last fall, George W. Bush was a guest of the Saddleback Civil Forum on leadership and service shortly following the release of his memoir Decision Points. Bush was a recipient of the PEACE medal in 2008 for his administration's work in combating AIDS.Launched in 2008, the Saddleback Civil Forum features influential leaders who speak on pressing issues in the world in order to promote personal responsibility, social civility and spiritual maturity. The most notable civil forum to date was the one that hosted then presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain in 2008. The candidates were asked questions on issues that concern Christians, including religious persecution, AIDS, abortion, marriage and stem cells.Tickets are usually provided at no cost for admission to the event.

Membership of Pentecostal Church, Jehovah's Witnesses Up, Protestant Down
The National Council of Churches Releases Membership Statistics of American Churches.
By DAN HARRIS and MAGGY PATRICK Feb. 16, 2011

According to a report by the National Council of Churches, the biggest losers are the mainstream Protestant churches -- the Presbyterian Church, Methodists and Lutherans are all showing a dip in membership. While each of them are down just a few percentage points (the data was compiled in 2009 and reported to the council in 2010) the declines have reached into the double digits over the last decade. Some of them are responding with ad campaigns.I think one of the things about mainline is that because it was the dominant church for so long, it took for granted that it would be publicly valuable, said Rev. Serene Jones of the Union Theological Seminary. To suddenly find yourself no longer the big guy on the block, meaning you suddenly have to start figuring out who you are and explain yourself.Pentecostal churches, on the other hand, are seeing a surge in membership. About 150,000 more people are attending the services this year, where members believe that the Holy Spirit can give you gifts, like speaking in tongues. Sarah Palin famously used to attend. It's a worldwide organization, said one man, a member of a Pentecostal church. It is one of the fastest growing faiths in the nation today. It seems like one of the attractions to Pentecostalism, it's a full body faith, said a female member of the church. It's a faith you can feel. The Jehovah's Witnesses, known for their door-to-door preaching, had the largest growth of any single denomination. They believe secular society is corrupt, and that Armageddon is imminent. Famous members include Venus and Serena Williams. Membership shot up 4.37 percent in a year.

Membership in the Mormon Church also went up, by nearly 80,000 members. With famous members like Mitt Romney, Glenn Beck and Twilight author Stephanie Meyer, the church is doing more outreach to the mainstream media. The biggest competition for churches isn't other churches, it's other things entirely, like television, the Internet and the mall. The new report says that total church membership in America continues to decline.Fifteen percent of Americans say they have no religion, though that doesn't mean they've given up on God.

Religion in America: A New Survey
They pray, said Jones. They ask deep questions of life. And they are the ones I think in the long run are going to recreate religion in North America.America's dynamic religious scene, perhaps in the midst of a new reformation.

James Turk - The Dollar Collapse Will Shock the World-Today King World News interviewed James Turk out of Spain and Turk issued the following warning regarding the US dollar, I am looking at the weekly chart for the last 2 1/2 years and my conclusion is that the dollar is forming a massive top. If we stop to consider that gold was rising while the dollar was basically going sideways during this period of time, imagine how rapidly gold will rise when the dollar starts falling.March 2, 2011

What I’m watching here very carefully is how the dollar is reacting to events in the Middle-East and higher commodity prices. Brent crude is presently $115 and that is signaling higher inflation. It’s a signal that everybody around the world is watching. So watch the dollar index closely. It broke below 77 and the chart is starting to look heavy.Eric you have been saying all along that the dollar isn’t bouncing and it now appears the dollar is ready to fall off of the edge of a cliff. The dollar collapse is going to be the next big story. If I am right and the dollar really starts to dive, the implications are global in nature and I truly believe this event will shock the world. When asked about gold Turk responded, To me the most important thing is this huge base that we now have in gold under $1,400. I see it as a major launching pad that could easily take gold to my $1,800 target for this year. When asked about silver specifically Turk stated, I think the major message in silver is that every dip is well bid for. The shorts and other big players may gun for stops from time to time, but they can’t change the underlying trend, or the very bullish fundamental picture. When the gold and silver markets start becoming disorderly, then we will know the metals are going to take a breather. But everything at the moment says we should be focusing on higher prices for both gold and silver.71 to 74 is seen as the last support if the dollar heads lower. If that support fails and the dollar breaks 71, then a waterfall decline with panic selling could come into play. Turk is right, that event would shock the world.

BIBLE PROPHECY AND THE FUTURE OF LIBYA Posted: February 28, 2011 by joel c rosenberg

Israel could still strike Iran, despite Mideast unrest - While chaos and change reigned supreme, Iran succeeded in repairing its uranium-enrichment plant after the cyber attack by the Stuxnet computer worm.

It is so painful to watch the horror show underway in Libya right now. Estimates tell us that at least 1,000 Libyans are dead. Many more are wounded. Some 100,000 people have apparently fled Libya in recent days as the situation goes from bad to worse. The first sentence of a new Time magazine article asks, Is it the End of Days for Libya? The article looks at the rising death toll as Gaddafi continues using his army to slaughter the Libyan people desperate for change. It also asks the question of whether Libya will experience peace even if (or when) Gaddafi is deposed. Dirk Vandewalle, a Libyan expert at Dartmouth University, told Time: Both sides, both the population, and the security organizations, know exactly what's at stake. If government militias [are to] win, they will have to kill many more, and if the security organizations lose, then the people, the regular people in Libya are going to take their revenge….Either way we're going to see a terrible blood bath. David Mack, a former deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, told Time that the worst possible outcome would be a widespread lawlessness in which Libya degenerated into a kind of Somalia on the Mediterranean. What does the Bible tell us? Libya is referred to numerous times in the Scriptures, both directly and indirectly.

In Matthew 27, for example, we learn that it was a Libyan man - Simon of Cyrene (a part of ancient Libya) – who carried the cross for our Lord Jesus. In Acts chapter 2, we learn that God-fearing men from Libya were present in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost and heard the Apostle Peter preach the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. Some 3,000 people that days repented of their sins and became fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. It is likely that Libyans were among them since they are mentioned in the text. In Acts 11, we learn that Libyan (Cyrene) followers of Jesus Christ helped bring the gospel to Antioch, Syria, and made disciples for Jesus there. In Acts 13 we learn that a Libyan man - Lucius of Cyrene - becomes one of the leaders of the church at Antioch, helping send out Barnabus and Paul to take the gospel to Asia and Europe.Again and again in the Scriptures we see that the Lord loves the people of Libya. He wants them to know Him and receive His free gift of salvation. That said, Bible prophecy also tells us the government and many of the people of Libya will be engaged in great evil in the End of Days.

In Ezekiel 38-39, we learn that Libya is one of the nations that joins the Russian-Iranian alliance against Israel in the last days. In this prophecy, Ezekiel uses the name Put. The first century historian Flavius Josephus wrote in his famous book, The Antiquities of the Jews, that Put or Phut is ancient Libyos. Ancient Libyos, we know, certainly included the territory of the modern nation state we refer to today as Libya, but also included Algeria and possibly Tunisia. This tells us the no matter what the near term outcomes of the revolutions underway in North Africa are, in the not-too-distant future Libya for certain and possibly her neighbors will have virulently anti-Semitic and anti-Israel leadership who will eagerly join a coalition bent on destroying the Jews and occupy the land of Israel. Gaddafi, of course, is already such a leader. Perhaps he will ride out this storm and stay in power. Perhaps someone worse will rise up after him. Hopefully Gaddafi will be deposed and a more moderate leadership will rise up for a season before the prophecy of the War of Gog and Magog comes to fulfillment. Either way, the Church should be using this window of time to do everything possible to get the gospel into Libya and to strengthen the persecuted believers in Libya before the country faces God's judgment for attacking Israel.

In Daniel 11, we learn that Libya is one of the countries that will be under the control and direction of the Antichrist in the last days. The Hebrew Prophet Daniel tells us that a despicable person will arise during a time of tranquility and will seize global power by intrigue and by overflowing forces in the End Times. This person, known in Christian theology as the Antichrist, will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done. The Bible tells us the Antichrist will enter the Beautiful Land - that is, Israel - and will stretch out his hand against other countries." Eventually, the Antichrist will gain control of the entire world and force all people who haven't received Christ as Savior and Lord to bow and worship him or be beheaded. But the Bible specificially notes that the Antichrist will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Ethiopians [the people of Cush, which includes modern Sudan, Ethiopia and possible Eritrea] will follow at his heels. It is not entirely clear why the Bible points specifically to Libyans and Ethiopians as among those who will follow and serve the Antichrist, but this is what the Lord tells us in advance will happen. This is all the more reason the Church must seek to reach all of North Africa with the gospel of Jesus Christ before it is too late. Please be praying faithfully for Libya and all of North Africa at this critical hour. Distributed by www.worldviewweekend.com

Economy Hit with the Ultimate Smokescreen: Biflation
Eric Blair Infowars.com March 7, 2011

You can tell when a Ponzi scheme is approaching its collapse by the number of increased smoke and mirrors needed to cover up the counterfeit foundation of the scheme. The U.S. government, who already grossly disfigures the real numbers for GDP, unemployment and inflation, is constantly having to twist reality to keep their scheme afloat. The government recently reported that unemployment numbers reached the lowest point in nearly two years at 8.9%, sparking optimism in the establishment media. Many analysts point to two months in a row of job growth as evidence that the U.S. is well on its way to recovery and it should be good news for job seekers.

Try telling that to a random unemployed commenter who responded to the news with the following:All lies. Why not just up the ante and say the unemployment rate is 5%? The last job I applied for had 440 applicants, many of whom had Phd’s, for the whopping non-living wage figure of 35K.Even if jobs are added, the question begs–what kind, and how much per hour? $8? We all know the inherent problems with the official unemployment number, as it never tells the full story. But assuming hiring has gotten better, these lower wage jobs will surely affect consumer spending in the near and long term. Additionally, John Challenger, an executive with an outplacement firm, claimed his optimism is tempered because, Certainly the specter of rising gas prices could impact employers’ staffing decisions over the next six months.Which brings us to the phony number in the theater to hide the Ponzi scheme that I want to focus on: inflation. The 12-month inflation rate as of January 2011, was 1.6% according to the official Consumer Price Index, or only 1% when you remove food and energy. The report stated:Over the last 12 months, the food index has risen 1.8 percent with the food at home index up 2.1 percent; both 12-month changes are the highest since 2009. The energy index has increased 7.3 percent over the last 12 months, with the gasoline index up 13.4 percent.

The gasoline index is indeed an eye-popping number. Too bad it’s not accurate. According to a recently released report by the American Petroleum Institute (PDF) gas prices are up about 25% on average over the last 12 months, and a whopping 105.7% in just over two years (since December 29, 2008 lows). And these numbers scarcely reflect recent jumps in oil prices due to turmoil in Libya and the Middle East, which has already caused the Obama Administration to consider tapping the nation’s strategic oil reserves. For all the news lately about looming food inflation with commodities skyrocketing, the Consumer Price Index for the past twelve months seems somewhat accurate. In other words, the commodity speculation is only now starting to impact food prices in a major way. The CPI release pointed out that The index for food at home posted its largest increase in over two years with all six major grocery store food group indexes rising, and January’s food at home index has already increased 0.7 percent.

We will protect your privacy…guaranteed!

All of these real increases to the cost of living for average people are balanced out with used housing, cars, and washing machines that are declining in price to create a palatable inflation official number. This phenomenon is called biflation. First introduced by Dr. F. Osborne Brown, biflation is where inflation and deflation occur simultaneously in the economy. It is an effective tool to confuse the public and give pundits the intellectual case for spinning the numbers in either direction.
During biflation, there’s a rise in prices of commodity-based assets like food and energy (inflation) and a simultaneous fall (deflation) in the price of debt-based assets like homes, cars, and appliances. The free-market concept is that the price of all assets are based on the demand for them versus the amount of money in circulation to buy them. In other words, their sales are utterly dependent on banks for credit, which is in turn dependent on the job market.

Wikipedia clearly describes the process of biflation as follows:
With biflation on the one hand, the economy is fueled by an over-abundance of money injected into the economy by central banks. Since most essential commodity-based assets (food, energy, clothing) remain in high demand, the price for them rises due to the increased volume of money chasing them. The increasing costs to purchase these essential assets is the price-inflationary arm of biflation. With biflation on the other hand, the economy is tempered by increasing unemployment and decreasing purchasing power. As a result, a greater amount of money is directed toward buying essential items and directed away from buying non-essential items. Debt-based assets (mega-houses, high-end automobiles and other typically debt based assets) become less essential and increasingly fall into lower demand. As a result, the prices for them fall due to the decreased volume of money chasing them. The decreasing costs to purchase these non-essential assets is the price-deflationary arm of biflation. This biflationary period will likely continue, as money will continue to be printed to cover bank losses and government debt, while hardships will likely continue to mount for the average consumer. Although the deflationary debt-based products seem like necessities in our modern world, their demand elasticity is far greater than that of food and energy, meaning they should not be equally weighed to determine the struggle of middle-and-lower class households. So don’t be fooled; biflation is being used as a smokescreen to keep the public from becoming alarmed about rapidly rising food and energy prices. Those who recognize the severity of the problem would be wise to prepare for massive inflation of human necessity today before the problem gets even worse.

Ex-Rep, Gopher Leaves Radio Show After Alleged Pressure Over Islam Comments
By Judson Berger Published March 05, 2011| FoxNews.com

This 1993 file photo shows Fred Grandy when he was a member of Congress.
Fred Grandy, the former Love Boat star who served several terms in Congress before landing a gig as a radio host, resigned from his show this week after he was pressured to stop talking so much about radical Islam, his wife, Catherine, told FoxNews.com. Catherine Mann-Grandy, who spoke with FoxNews.com extensively about the details of their split with WMAL management, confirmed that the couple's critical commentary on radical Islam was the driving factor behind Grandy's resignation. You're not allowed to talk about what's happening in your country, she said. Fred Grandy, best known for his role as Gopher in The Love Boat, had been on air as a host at Washington, D.C.'s WMAL since 2003. He worked most recently as host of The Grandy Group -- his wife made regular appearances on that show under the nickname Mrs. Fred. But while both of them started devoting more and more segments to the subject of Muslim influence in America over the past year, it was Catherine's comments that apparently led to an ultimatum. Mann-Grandy, who did a regular segment called domestic terrorism 101, hit a string of topics on their show last Friday. Though the segment was taken off the radio's site, she described it. She said that, on air, she quoted a rabbi who compared radical Muslims to Nazis, complained that President Obama was not doing enough to help Israel, warned that Shariah-compliant individuals work in the government and discussed several other Islam-related topics.
Perhaps sensing she might have stepped over a line, she warned on air about the possibility that she might not return the following week.

Sure enough, she didn't. Mann-Grandy said her husband told her Tuesday that management told him she could no longer be on the show. Further, she said her husband was told to really tone it down on the Islam stuff. In response, Fred Grandy resigned.Though he was not able to discuss his departure in detail for legal reasons, Fred Grandy also confirmed to FoxNews.com it was my decision.Jeff Boden, president and general manager of WMAL, disputed Mann-Grady's account. To be clear, at no time has WMAL told Fred that he was not allowed to discuss his views on Islam over the air, he said in a statement to FoxNews.com. In fact, he has done so on numerous occasions. Further, WMAL has not been contacted by any organization seeking to restrict his broadcasts.WMAL remains committed to its goal of providing a forum for discussing a broad spectrum of issues while delivering compelling programming including Chris Plante, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin, he added. The sudden departure immediately triggered rumors that the Council on American Islamic Relations, the country's largest Muslim advocacy group, was somehow involved -- a charge CAIR denied. Mann-Grandy said she thinks that's what happened, though she doesn't have evidence. That is just my gut instinct, she said. Fred Grandy said he had no conclusive evidence.WMAL, which carries several programs featuring conservative pundits, dumped host Michael Graham several years ago following comments he made about Islam and a subsequent campaign against the station's advertisers by CAIR.James Lafferty, chariman of the Virginia Anti-Shariah Task Force, accused WMAL of becoming the first Shariah-compliant radio station in America.
Reached for comment, Lafferty said the host was told to tone it down and keep his wife off the program.

CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper attributed the charges against his group to the extreme anti-Muslim blogosphere. That claim is as credible as any other claim these hate mongers make,he told FoxNews.com. They make it up out of whole cloth.Hooper said CAIR had not even made any complaints to the station about Grandy. The Washington Post reported that Grandy's ratings had also been trailing those of other right-leaning hosts. But Lafferty alleged that WMAL caved to pressure. The group called on listeners to call the station Monday and Tuesday to demand Grandy and his wife return to the show.Mann-Grandy, claiming she and her husband have gotten hundreds of e-mails of support, said she doesn't think they'll be asked to return but suggested she'd go back on air.I would be happy if someone else did that segment ... but nobody's doing it,she said.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

Rain and snow to hit much of East on Sunday
MAR 6,11

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Heavy rain and snow will strike much of the East on Sunday and overnight, affecting states from Tennessee and North Carolina through New England, with the Northeast especially hard hit, forecasters said.A moisture-packed storm will batter the Northeast today through early on Monday, meteorologist Bill Deger wrote on the AccuWeather website. He said the storm could bring up to three inches of flooding rain in some areas, and more than a foot of wet snow in others.By this evening, an all-out snowstorm will be underway from northern Pennsylvania through northern New York,Deger said. The National Weather service showed flood watches in effect for much of the Mid-Atlantic region, while the Weather Channel site said heavy rainfall will be possible in the Northeast and may result in some flooding problems.Colder air coming in behind the storm would change rain to snow across the interior of the Northeast,it said. Some rain and snow will linger into (Monday) morning across New England and eastern parts of New York, and into the evening hours in northern Maine,Weather Channel lead meteorologist Mark Avery wrote on the Channel's site.In Philadelphia about an inch of rain was expected, with a forecast of wet roads and possible minor flooding in low-lying areas.Flash flood warnings and flood advisories remained in effect across Tennessee after heavy daylong rain moved through the middle of the state on Saturday and was heading to the eastern portion on Sunday. Snowflakes were reported in the higher elevatons.

Elsewhere in the nation, the Great Plains were dry on Sunday, but heavy snowfall is expected across the region this week.Up to two inches of snow are expected Monday in eastern Nebraska, then a lull before the storm dumps to six inches of heavy, wet snow in the Omaha area Tuesday and Wednesday.(Additional reporting by Dave Warner in Philadelphia, Tim Ghianni in Nashville, and David Hendee in Omaha; Writing by Jerry Norton; Editing by Lauren Keiper)

Bleak future for Christchurch as population flees
by Amy Coopes – Sat Mar 5, 10:46 pm ET

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AFP) – After a deadly earthquake left homes creaking and wiped out buildings and jobs, thousands of residents have turned their back on Christchurch, raising questions over the city's future.City officials estimate one-sixth of Christchurch's 390,000 population -- some 65,000 people -- have fled New Zealand's second city, terrified by incessant aftershocks or because their workplace has been affected. The key question is how many of those departures will prove to be permanent.I'm leaving, said resident Tyra Yeabsley, who was in the worst-hit CTV building a day before the February 22 tremor razed it to the ground, killing dozens.

I was always intending to but this has just made that resolve to move all the more strong. The shallow, 6.3-magnitude quake devastated the South Island's bustling tourist gateway, reducing two major office buildings to rubble, leaving a large hotel tilting and causing parts of the iconic Christchurch Cathedral to crumble.
Estimates are that the tremor -- that killed at least 166 people -- destroyed one-third of the buildings in central Christchurch and left 10,000 people homeless.
Mayor Bob Parker has warned it could be months before parts of the city reopen, and though the government has underwritten all employees' wages for six weeks in a bid to protect jobs, prospects for the CBD's 52,000 workers are uncertain.I know already that populations in other towns in the South Island have risen exponentially as people from here who have the ability to or have a holiday home or have a contact relocate, Parker told AFP.They need to make arrangements for their children's education, they need some sort of permanence.Hundreds of Canterbury University students are being shipped to Australia to finish their studies while thousands of schoolchildren have enrolled elsewhere, some as far away as Auckland, after some local schools warned they could be closed for a year.

The quake, an aftershock of a 7.0-magnitude shudder on September 4 which caused damage but no deaths, has left city businesses scrambling for office space in the suburbs, setting up in warehouses and homes. Some companies had moved their servers into bunkers after the earlier quake, meaning staff can log in from home while the city remains in lockdown, but others have lost everything.Meanwhile tens of thousands of residences are still without power or water, and a quarter of all homes will need some sort of repair work.About 10,000 will need to be demolished -- entire streets in some suburbs -- and the rush is on to find parks and other land for temporary housing before the punishing southern winter sets in.Cruise ships are even being considered to accommodate the residents of Lyttelton, epicentre of the violent quake, according to civil defence controller Steve Brazier. But many have been scarred by their experience and simply want out. We're leaving for an indeterminate period, said resident Kerry Kinsman, who has to pass through police and army roadblocks just to leave her street.I'm sick of having earthquakes every day. In the centre right where we live we feel them a lot.Delicatessen manager Maarten Loeffen believes it will take at least five years to clean up the city centre and while larger firms could move staff to operations in other New Zealand cities, small business owners will struggle.

I think the whole economy and the whole structure of Christchurch will change, more people will maybe go out to the suburbs,he said.I really think there's going to be poverty.Redundancies have begun in earnest, with at least one major supermarket chain joining scores of small businesses in refusing to reopen its doors, costing hundreds of jobs at two stores alone. The devastation in Christchurch, which accounts for some 15 percent of New Zealand's economy, has been estimated at NZ$16 billion ($12 billion), with officials warning it could send the country into recession. But while the exodus is undeniable, experts believe it will only be temporary, with the city's location in Canterbury's rich farming heartland and proximity to the major port of Lyttelton still strong drawcards for business. It's partly driven by a strong agricultural sector, the expansion of manufacturing, which is probably a bit cheaper to run in Christchurch than Auckland, said population geographer Ward Friesen, from Auckland University. And I'd imagine that would remain to be the case -- assuming the ground stabilises a bit.

Magnitude-6.2 earthquake shakes northern Chile
MAR 6,11

SANTIAGO, Chile – A magnitude-6.2 earthquake on Sunday shook a northern region of Chile that has felt several frightening but inconsequential tremors in recent days. No injuries or major damage were reported. The quake was centered in Putre, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) east of the port of Arica near the border with Peru, and nearly 1,400 miles (2,200 kilometers) north of the capital, Santiago, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake happened about 9:30 a.m. local time (7:30 a.m. EST; 1231 GMT) and had a depth of about 70 miles (110 kilometers), the agency said. Some people ran out of homes and churches into the streets when they felt the shaking, but there were no reports of injuries or damage, Chile's national emergency agency said.Several quakes have rattled northern Chile recently, most of them with a magnitude of 5 or less.Chilean and foreign scientists have warned that the region is long overdue for a significant quake. The nation is prone to major earthquakes like the magnitude-8.8 temblor that shook central Chile on Feb. 27, 2010, generating a tsunami and killing 524 people.

UK's Huhne says unrest shows need to wean off oil
– Sun Mar 6, 5:10 am ET

LONDON (AFP) – The unrest in the Arab world makes it all the more urgent to wean Britain off oil and onto greener sources of power, its energy minister said Sunday.

Britain has no other option but to speed up efforts to move away from oil towards other energy sources, Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne told The Observer newspaper, as prices at the petrol pumps soar.Britain will launch a new national Carbon Plan this week aimed at getting government departments to shake up their operations and make their projects less dependent on fossil fuels.Getting off the oil hook is made all the more urgent by the crisis in the Middle East, Huhne said.We cannot afford to go on relying on such a volatile source of energy when we can have clean, green and secure energy from low-carbon sources. The Carbon Plan is about ensuring that the whole of government is engaged in a joined-up effort to lead us into a low-carbon world. The Carbon Plan will be launched this week by Prime Minister David Cameron, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Huhne.Non-governmental organisations will be asked to play a monitoring role to ensure progress across departments, The Observer said.It is being published in draft form ahead of a final version before 2012. It will be updated annually, with progress being published quarterly on the Downing Street website, the weekly said.Public anger is mounting at the cost of petrol in Britain -- most of which goes to the Treasury.Finance minister George Osborne hinted Saturday that in his budget later this month, he might drop the one penny above inflation tax rise in a bid to ease the pressure on motorists.

Alan Duncan, Britain's junior international development minister and a former oil trader, warned Saturday that the price of a barrel of crude could top $200 (140 euros) if the unrest worsens.

Stocks hit oil slick but economy to trump
By Edward Krudy - Sun Mar 6, 11:32 am ET

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Stocks will take their cues from the oil market this week as unrest rumbles through the Middle East. But so far equity investors are sanguine, believing the economic recovery wins the day.Sentiment is driving large daily swings as traders vacillate between the fear that oil prices will hit consumers and derail the recovery, and the euphoria that the U.S. labor market is turning a corner.Reports of escalated fighting in Libya and protests in Bahrain, Yemen and top oil-exporter Saudi Arabia rattled investors on Friday -- oil rose, equities fell.We are in such a sentiment-driven market right now and everyone is watching the equity market with one eye and oil and commodity markets with the other, said Michael James, a senior trader at Wedbush Morgan in Los Angeles.

SHIFT TO OIL STOCKS

Some hedge funds are trading the inverse correlations between oil and equities that have grown in recent weeks, while other investors are shifting their exposure to oil stocks and paring back in overvalued areas of the market.Through it all the S&P 500 is down less than 2 percent from a near three-year high hit in late February, which even bears concede is a remarkably robust performance. Last week, stocks ended flat.
So far the trade seems to be a reallocation of risk within equities rather than a move out of stocks altogether.Zahid Siddique, a portfolio manager at the Gabelli Equity Trust, has used the turmoil as a chance to raise his exposure to energy stocks, which have surged with oil prices. The S&P energy sector (.GSPE) has risen 10 percent since the middle of January when troubles in the Arab world began. Since then the wider market has crept up by just a fraction of that. Over the same period Brent crude oil rose nearly 18 percent to more than $116 per barrel. These type of crises make you refresh your portfolio and just take another look, Siddique said. Near-term we may have some volatility in the market ... although the markets could still trend higher within that.In the energy sector Siddique has added to positions in Suncor Energy (SU.TO) (SU.N), Marathon Oil (MRO.N) and Exxon Mobil (XOM.N).At the same time he has taken the opportunity to pare back positions that he believes are starting to look over-priced. Those include Deere & Co (DE.N) and Caterpillar Inc (CAT.N).If oil prices spike higher, other areas of the market could start to look more vulnerable.

STRONG ECONOMIC MOMENTUM

Barry Knapp, managing director of equity research at Barclays Capital in New York, recently downgraded the consumer discretionary sector, a move he partly attributes to risks posed by higher oil prices. If there is one sector that is particularly vulnerable, it would be the consumer discretionary sector, Knapp said. That sector is the only cyclical sector that Knapp has underweighted as he continues to believe the economy will strengthen. On balance we do not think that this oil price supply shock is going to be strong enough to offset the economic momentum,he said. Spending, savings and jobs data during the week continued to inspire confidence in the consumer. Although Friday's payrolls report fell short of the fireworks the market expected, many investors feel the jobs situation has finally turned. That is feeding into general optimism that the recovery is becoming self sustaining and will continue after the Federal Reserve stops its stimulative asset purchases later this year. The game changer for this market is and continues to be the consumer, said Douglas Cote, a senior market strategist at ING Investment Management in New York. The consumer, despite 9 percent unemployment, is setting records in not only in their incomes but their spending. That theory will be tested again this week when consumer confidence and retail sales data are published on Friday. The Reuters consensus forecast is that confidence will ease slightly in March. Any indication that consumers are less stalwart about rising energy and gasoline prices could be a warning sign.(Editing by Kenneth Barry)

Deutsche Boerse will have upper hand in NYSE merger - CEO
MAR 6,11

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Deutsche Boerse (DB1Gn.DE) will have the upper hand in the planned mega-merger deal with NYSE Euronext (NYX.N), the exchange operators' chief executive told a paper, as fears of fading significance linger. The proposed $10.2 billion (6.2 billion pounds) takeover of NYSE Euronext by Deutsche Boerse unveiled last month would leave Boerse's shareholders with 60 percent of the combined entity, but analysts have cautioned that the company may end up with less power. In a letter from NYSE Euronext Chief Executive Duncan Niederauer to NYSE staff, the deal was touted as a merger of two great companies, not a sale or an acquisition, with Frankfurt and New York both emerging winners. But a close look at a merger filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission reveals that in the long run, the New York bourse could win the upper hand, despite Deutsche Boerse's larger size.In an excerpt of an interview with German business daily Handelsblatt to be published on Monday, Deutsche Boerse Chief Executive Reto Francioni said the high market capitalization puts us (Deutsche Boerse) in a position to do this deal the way we envisage it.

He was also quoted as saying that the synergies of the deal may be higher than the $300 million expected so far, adding that Frankfurt as a financial market place would be strengthened by the deal.Loss anxiety is absolutely misplaced, Francioni, who would become chairman of the combined company, said, adding no decision had been made yet on the name.(Reporting by Christoph Steitz; Editing by Jon Loades-Carter)

ECB's Gonzalez-Paramo: April rate hike possible
– Sun Mar 6, 4:04 am ET

MADRID (Reuters) – An April rate increase is possible as the European Central Bank continues its mission to control inflation, ECB Executive Board member Jose Manuel Gonzalez-Paramo said in an interview published on Sunday. It's not about responding to higher oil prices, but about preventing a second round of effects, Gonzalez-Paramo told Spanish newspaper El Mundo, echoing comments made last week by ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet.Asked about the impact of a rate hike for Spain, whose economy is recovering at a slower pace than others in the euro zone, Gonzalez-Paramo said the ECB must think about the euro zone as a whole rather than individual countries. If the ECB was devoted to countries with slower recoveries, it would not be able to ensure price stability over the medium term, he said.Regarding the European rescue fund, Gonzalez-Paramo said the fund must be large enough and flexible enough to act as a market deterrent and guarantee stability. It's not about a specific country, but the systemic effect. But using the rescue fund should not be an attractive option, he said.Spain has been in markets' sights since Ireland was forced to take an international bailout late last year, largely because of problems with its savings banks since a burst property bubble.Gonzalez-Paramo applauded recent reforms introduced by the government to shore up banks' capital, but said the country still had to define a future business model for the sector.(Reporting by Tracy Rucinski; Editing by Daniel Magnowski)

Gaddafi launches counter-offensive on Libya rebels
By Maria Golovnina and Michael Georgy – MAR 6,11

TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi launched counter-offensives against rebel-held towns Sunday, increasing fears that Libya is heading for a protracted civil war rather than the swift revolutions seen in Tunisia and Egypt. The Gaddafi government proclaimed sweeping overnight victories over what it called terrorist bands. But after what residents said was a day of fierce fighting with artillery, rockets and mortar bombs, rebel forces announced they had fought off Gaddafi's forces in the towns of Zawiyah and Misrata to the immediate west and to the east of Tripoli. We would like to put the people of this great nation at ease...because the regime is spreading rumors, opposition rebel council spokesman Hafiz Ghoga told a Benghazi news conference. Both Zawya and Misrata are secured, liberated cities.Gaddafi's troops, backed by tanks, artillery, warplanes and helicopters also attacked positions near the oil port of Ras Lanuf, 660 km (410 miles) east of the capital.

Misrata, with a population of 300,000, is the largest town controlled by rebels outside the rebel-held east of the country. If rebel soldiers were able to continue their fitful advance westwards, Misrata could be a stepping stone to reaching the capital, Gaddafi's principal stronghold.Loyalists had poured into the streets of Tripoli at dawn on Sunday firing into the air and holding portraits of the leader who has headed the OPEC oil and gas producer for 41 years. These are celebrations because government forces have taken control of all areas to Benghazi and are in the process of taking control of Benghazi, spokesman Mussa Ibrahim said, referring to Libya's second city, situated in the far east. But the celebrations appeared to be premature as Benghazi remained firmly under rebel control and insurgents at Zawiyah and Misrata said they had repulsed assaults and were now fighting to take back the town of Bin Jawad, west of Ras Lanuf.Government troops pushed the insurgents out of Bin Jawad which they had captured Saturday. But the rebels regrouped around Ras Lanuf and moved back to the outskirts of Bin Jawad, a small, dusty town sandwiched between the coastal highway and the Mediterranean Sea, 160 km (100 miles) east of Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte. One fighter returning wounded to Ras Lanuf from the government assault on Bin Jawad was asked what he had seen.Death,he replied, too distraught to say any more.

FIGHT BACK

Rebels surrounded by troops near the center of Zawiyah, 50 km (30 miles) west of Tripoli, faced another attack after repelling two assaults by tanks and infantry the day before. This morning, there was a new attack, bigger than yesterday. There were one and a half hours of fighting ... Two people were killed from our side and many more injured, spokesman Youssef Shagan said by telephone. We are still in full control of the square, he added.Elite brigades under Gaddafi's son Khamis also launched an assault on Misrata, 200 km (125 miles) east of the capital. The brigades tried to reach the center of the town but revolutionaries managed to repel them. They retreated to the airbase, said a resident who declined to be named. The revolutionaries captured 20 soldiers and seized a tank. The town is now fully in the control of the youths, he said.At least 18 people, including a baby, were killed in the fighting in Misrata Sunday, a doctor told Reuters by phone. We have 18 martyrs but the figure is not final. We also have many people wounded, I cannot even count them, said the doctor, who works at Misrata main hospital, adding that the dead included rebels and civilians.Rebels first took Bin Jawad Saturday, but later withdrew. Army units then occupied local homes and set up sniper and rocket-propelled grenade positions for an ambush. It's real fierce fighting, like Vietnam, rebel fighter Ali Othman told Reuters. Every kind of weapon is being used. We've retreated from an ambush and we are going to regroup. When the rebels returned, a fierce exchange of rockets and mortar bombs ensued just outside Bin Jawad with the army also using heavy artillery. Behind rebel lines, hundreds of fighters armed with machine guns and assault rifles waited to advance.

The firing is sustained, there is the thud of shells landing, the whoosh of rockets, puffs of smoke and heavy machine gun fire in the distance, a Reuters correspondent there said. The rebels said they had shot down a helicopter Sunday and Reuters was shown the wreckage of a warplane Saturday near Ras Lanuf that rebels said they had brought down.Doctors at Ras Lanuf hospital said two dead and 22 wounded had arrived from the fighting. A French journalist was shot in the leg, a doctor said, and four rebels were seriously wounded and unlikely to survive.

BRITISH TROOPS SEIZED

Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague said Sunday that what he called a British diplomatic team that had been captured in the eastern city of Benghazi have now left Libya. The Sunday Times earlier reported a British Special Air Service (SAS) unit had been captured after a secret diplomatic mission to make contact with opposition leaders backfired. They (the rebel army) did capture some British special forces. They could not ascertain if they were friends or foes. For our safety we are holding them and we expect this situation to be resolved soon,a rebel source in Benghazi said.Western leaders have denounced what they call Gaddafi's brutal response to the uprising, and the International Criminal Court said he and his inner circle face investigation for alleged targeting of civilians by his security forces.German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said in a newspaper Sunday that the United Nations security council should launch fresh sanctions against Gaddafi.Selective sanctions are necessary against those who are responsible for crimes against the Libyan people, he told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. The flow of money must be cut off.The International Energy Agency said the revolt had blocked about 60 percent of Libya's 1.6 million bpd oil output. The drop, due largely to the flight of thousands of foreign oil workers, will batter the economy and have already jacked up crude prices abroad.(Additional reporting by Michael Georgy in Tripoli, Alexander Dziadosz in Ajdabiya, Mohammed Abbas in Bin Jawad, Stefano Ambrogi in London, Nick Vinocur in Paris and Tom Pfeiffer in Benghazi; Writing by Jon Hemming; Editing by Michael Roddy)

Shiite protesters in Bahrain besiege PM office
MAR 6,11

MANAMA, Bahrain – Thousands of Shiite opposition supporters blocked the entrance to the Bahraini prime minister's office but failed to disrupt a government meeting on Sunday as the campaign for reform in the strategic Gulf nation entered its third week.Bahrain's Shiite majority has long complained of discrimination and political persecution in the island nation, which is ruled by a Sunni dynasty. The protesters demanded the prime minister step down because of corruption and a deadly crackdown on the opposition in which seven people were killed.Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the prime minister and the king's uncle, has been in power for 40 years.Khalifa, who was presiding over a weekly meeting of government ministers, told the state-run Bahrain News Agency that changes are under way and the kingdom's reform march will continue. The government's development policies will continue upbeat as we are determined more than ever to achieve our goal of upgrading the citizens' standards of living by providing them with the means of decent life,he said.

The Shiite opposition groups have called for a constitutional monarchy, but some of the protesters camped out in the capital's Pearl Square are demanding that the Sunni monarchy step aside altogether.Currently, one house of Bahrain's parliament is the only elected body, but it holds limited authority since all the country's decisions — including the appointment of government ministers — rest with the king. The 40-member institution has been in limbo since the 18 opposition legislators resigned last month to protest the government's deadly crackdown.Bahrain holds particular importance to Washington as the host of U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, the main American military counterweight to Iran's efforts to expand its armed forces and reach into the Gulf. The king, Sheik Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has taken some steps to end the Shiite revolt that rattled one of the wealthiest corners of the Middle East. It was long assumed that the Gulf region's oil wealth would stave off the kind of unrest that has roiled Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and Libya.Bahrain, however, has little oil compared with the regional crude titans that make up the other members of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, and the unrest is taking its toll on the tiny country's economy. International ratings agencies have either downgraded or warned about cuts to its ratings.

In a statement released Sunday, Bahrain's Chamber of Commerce said that general economic conditions in the kingdom are very difficult. The island's tourism industry was hit the hardest, the statement said, adding that the revenue fell by about 80 percent and the losses stemming from damage to the sector were estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Much of Bahrain's tourism comes from neighboring Saudi Arabia.Compounding the damage was the cancellation of Formula 1's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix. The race, staged annually in the kingdom since 2004, is a major revenue earner for Bahrain. In a bid to allay the tensions, the king assigned Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to lead talks with the opposition and ordered the creation of 20,000 new government jobs.Unemployment is particularly high among Shiite youth. They complain of government jobs often being given to Sunnis from Arab countries and Pakistan who were granted Bahraini nationality to boost Sunni numbers in the Gulf nation.Opposition leaders have accepted Salman's invitation for talks, but no date has been set for them to meet.On Sunday, the crown prince again called for all parties to join him in dialogue, saying the crisis will have to be resolved in a civil manner. All (parties) are invited to talk, Salman said. I will not succeed without the support of the nation,he told Bahrain's state TV.

White House considers tapping oil reserves
By Jackie Frank – Sun Mar 6, 11:23 am ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – White House Chief of Staff William Daley said on Sunday the Obama administration was considering tapping into the U.S. strategic oil reserve as a way to help ease soaring oil prices.Speaking on NBC television's Meet the Press, Daley said: We are looking at the options. The issue of the reserves is one we are considering. It is something that only is done -- and has been done -- in very rare occasions. There's a bunch of factors that have to be looked at. And it is just not the price. All matters have to be on the table when you see the difficulty coming out of this economic crisis we're in and the fragility, Daley added.Congress has pressured the Obama administration to look to the emergency oil supply to ease consumers' fears over rising gasoline prices, which are threatening again to top $4 per gallon at U.S. gas stations.Higher oil prices could undermine the fragile U.S. economic recovery and politically damage President Barack Obama as he moves toward his 2012 re-election bid. While the White House has said governments around the world had options, including oil reserves, that could be used to prevent an inflationary price spiral due to oil supply disruptions, none have taken the rare step of tapping into their oil reserves.

U.S. oil prices jumped on Friday to more than $3 a barrel to $105.17, their highest level since September 2008, as fighting in Libya worsened and protests in the Middle East intensified. The International Energy Agency said the revolt in Africa's third-largest producer had blocked about 60 percent of Libya's 1.6 million bpd (barrels per day) oil output, largely due to the flight of thousands of foreign oil workers. On Thursday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner played down the risks to the oil supply from political disturbances in the oil-rich Middle East and North Africa in testimony before a congressional panel. He said there was considerable spare oil production capacity around the world and substantial reserves on hand.If necessary, those reserves could be mobilized to help mitigate the effect of a severe, sustained supply disruption, Geithner told the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.Geithner said high food and oil prices were causing hardships in many parts of the world. But he said Americans were feeling less impact.

DEMOCRATS BACK DRAWDOWN

There has been support among Senate Democrats for tapping America's emergency oil supply to cool gasoline prices.Senator Jay Rockefeller urged Obama on Thursday to allow a limited draw-down from the oil reserves, to protect our national security by preventing or reducing the adverse impact of an oil shortage. But Republican Senator Lamar Alexander, speaking on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, said he would not support the oil reserve drawdown. On Wednesday, U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu ruled out releasing oil from the reserve, saying ramped-up oil production in Saudi Arabia should lower the crude price. That's going to mitigate the price increase, he told reporters. We're hoping market forces will take care of this.Tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, created in the mid-1970s after the Arab oil embargo, is a relatively rare event. It has been U.S. policy to turn to the emergency supply only when faced with a major supply disruption. It was last done in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, helping to drive oil prices down by about 9 percent.British finance minister George Osborne on Friday signaled he would cut the country's fuel tax to counter soaring oil prices. A one penny-per-liter rise in the fuel duty planned by the previous Labour government was due to take effect in April. Israeli PM: World conditioned to back Palestinians
– Sun Mar 6, 11:12 am ET

JERUSALEM – Israel's leader has accused the international community of automatically siding with the Palestinians.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the Palestinians are refusing to make peace overtures, instead preferring to take advantage of the international community's Pavlovian reflex in their favor.Peace talks broke down in September. The Palestinians blame Israel for the stalemate, saying continued Israeli settlement building in the West Bank and east Jerusalem is preventing the resumption of talks.Netanyahu reportedly is considering making an unspecified interim offer, but the Palestinians have rejected provisional arrangements and want nothing short of an accord for a permanent Palestinian state.

TEHRAN (AFP) – Two Iranian warships, which entered the Mediterranean last month sparking an outcry from Israel, have passed through the Suez Canal back into the Red Sea, naval commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayari said on Saturday. The flotilla ... has completed its mission successfully in the Mediterranean Sea and has returned to the Red Sea transiting through the Suez Canal, the official news agency IRNA quoted Sayari as saying. It was the first time since the 1979 Islamic revolution that Iranian warships had entered the Mediterranean and Iran's archfoe Israel described the move as a political provocation. The frigate Alvand and supply ship Kharg passed through the Suez Canal on February 22 and docked two days later at the Syrian port of Latakia.Sayari did not say when the warships began their return journey, but said it took them 10-12 hours to transit the canal. He said the flotilla conveyed a message of peace and friendship to friendly countries and showed that the Zionist regime and other enemies could not take any actions against us whatsoever.

Israel, which considers Iran its biggest threat after repeated predictions by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of its demise, put its navy on alert during the flotilla's mission.Sayari said the Israelis had contacted the warships and asked them to identify themselves, the Fars news agency reported, adding that he hailed it as evidence that the deployment had worried and frightened the Zionist regime. The Zionist regime's naval stations sent out a message to our dispatched flotilla to communicate and identify ourselves, but we responded by saying that 'this is none of your business and shut up, the Iranian commander said.Analysts say the port visit by the two ships to close ally Syria was an attempt by Iran to project its clout at a time when anti-government protests sweeping the Arab world from Casablanca to Cairo are shifting the regional balance of power. The Suez Canal Authority said last month that ships of any nationality can pass through as long as the country is not in a state of war with Egypt.

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

HOW CAN A PALESTINIAN STATE BE GOOD FOR ISRAEL.WHEN OVER 10,000 ROCKETS HAVE BEEN FIRED BY THE ARABS INTO ISRAEL OVER THE PAST 7 YEARS IS MY QUESTION.

Chile president: Palestinian state good for Israel
– Sun Mar 6, 10:46 am ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) – Chile's president on Sunday sought to mollify Israel over his country's recognition of Palestinian statehood, saying that the move was ultimately for the good of the Jewish state.Speaking to journalists after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Jerusalem office, Sebastian Pinera echoed a phrase often used by his host, saying that any lasting peace must be based on security.Chile has just recognised the Palestinian state because we have always thought that Israel has the right to live within secure borders, internationally-recognised borders, in peace, he said in English. We also think that the Palestinian people have the right to their own state, a free state, a democratic state, he added.

On January 7, Santiago announced it was formally recognising Palestinian statehood, following the footsteps of Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador.Israel opposes the policy, saying a Palestinian state should only be established through bilateral negotiations.Unlike its neighbours, Chile did not specifically refer to a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders -- those which existed before Israel occupied the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem during the Six-Day War of that year.Pinera on Sunday said recognition was fully compatible with a negotiated peace.
That's why when we recognised the Palestinian state we made it very clear that the best way to reach a strong, secure, durable peace is by direct talks between the two countries, he said.If they reach an agreement, then peace will be built on rock, not on sand.Pinera met on Saturday in Ramallah with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmud Abbas, who reiterated his dismissal of any interim accord with Israel for a Palestinian state with provisional borders. This project was already submitted to us and, if it is presented again, we will reject it again, Abbas said at a news conference with Pinera following their talks.Sources close to Netanyahu have said he plans to deliver a key speech in Washington announcing a new diplomatic gambit towards the Palestinians, which would stipulate a long-term interim agreement, rather than negotiations on a final settlement, Israeli media reported.International pressure is mounting for movement in the moribund peace process, which collapsed late last year over a dispute about Jewish settlements. The failure of the peace talks prompted a Palestinian diplomatic initiative to win widespread international recognition for their state, with the aim of securing UN recognition in September.

Parshah Vayikra - Leviticus 1:1-5:26

SINCE WHAT ISRAEL READS WILL BE FULFILLED IN THAT WEEK I WILL BE PUTTING THE WEEKLY TORAH PORTION ON FOR ALL OF US TO KEEP TRACK OF ISRAEL HAPPENINGS.

TORAH PORTION FROM MAR 06 2011 6PM - MAR 12 6PM 2011

LEVITICUS 1:1 - 5:26
1 And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.
3 If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.
4 And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him.
5 And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
6 And he shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces.
7 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire upon the altar, and lay the wood in order upon the fire:
8 And the priests, Aaron's sons, shall lay the parts, the head, and the fat, in order upon the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:
9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
10 And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish.
11 And he shall kill it on the side of the altar northward before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron's sons, shall sprinkle his blood round about upon the altar.
12 And he shall cut it into his pieces, with his head and his fat: and the priest shall lay them in order on the wood that is on the fire which is upon the altar:
13 But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it upon the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
14 And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.
15 And the priest shall bring it unto the altar, and wring off his head, and burn it on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be wrung out at the side of the altar:
16 And he shall pluck away his crop with his feathers, and cast it beside the altar on the east part, by the place of the ashes:
17 And he shall cleave it with the wings thereof, but shall not divide it asunder: and the priest shall burn it upon the altar, upon the wood that is upon the fire: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

LEVITICUS 2:1-16
1 And when any will offer a meat offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon:
2 And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:
3 And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
4 And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil.
5 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil.
6 Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering.
7 And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.
8 And thou shalt bring the meat offering that is made of these things unto the LORD: and when it is presented unto the priest, he shall bring it unto the altar.
9 And the priest shall take from the meat offering a memorial thereof, and shall burn it upon the altar: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
10 And that which is left of the meat offering shall be Aaron's and his sons': it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.
11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.
12 As for the oblation of the firstfruits, ye shall offer them unto the LORD: but they shall not be burnt on the altar for a sweet savour.
13 And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
14 And if thou offer a meat offering of thy firstfruits unto the LORD, thou shalt offer for the meat offering of thy firstfruits green ears of corn dried by the fire, even corn beaten out of full ears.
15 And thou shalt put oil upon it, and lay frankincense thereon: it is a meat offering.
16 And the priest shall burn the memorial of it, part of the beaten corn thereof, and part of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

LEVITICUS 3:1-17
1 And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD.
2 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron's sons the priests shall sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.
3 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
4 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is on them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away.
5 And Aaron's sons shall burn it on the altar upon the burnt sacrifice, which is upon the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
6 And if his offering for a sacrifice of peace offering unto the LORD be of the flock; male or female, he shall offer it without blemish.
7 If he offer a lamb for his offering, then shall he offer it before the LORD.
8 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron's sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the altar.
9 And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat thereof, and the whole rump, it shall he take off hard by the backbone; and the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
10 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away.
11 And the priest shall burn it upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD.
12 And if his offering be a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD.
13 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of it, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the altar round about.
14 And he shall offer thereof his offering, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
15 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away.
16 And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the LORD'S.
17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

LEVITICUS 4:1-35
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:
3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.
4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD; and shall lay his hand upon the bullock's head, and kill the bullock before the LORD.
5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock's blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation:
6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the vail of the sanctuary.
7 And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8 And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin offering; the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,
9 And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away,
10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt offering.
11 And the skin of the bullock, and all his flesh, with his head, and with his legs, and his inwards, and his dung,
12 Even the whole bullock shall he carry forth without the camp unto a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn him on the wood with fire: where the ashes are poured out shall he be burnt.
13 And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty;
14 When the sin, which they have sinned against it, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin, and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation.
15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD: and the bullock shall be killed before the LORD.
16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullock's blood to the tabernacle of the congregation:
17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the blood, and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD, even before the vail.
18 And he shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD, that is in the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall pour out all the blood at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
19 And he shall take all his fat from him, and burn it upon the altar.
20 And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin offering, so shall he do with this: and the priest shall make an atonement for them, and it shall be forgiven them.
21 And he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp, and burn him as he burned the first bullock: it is a sin offering for the congregation.
22 When a ruler hath sinned, and done somewhat through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD his God concerning things which should not be done, and is guilty;
23 Or if his sin, wherein he hath sinned, come to his knowledge; he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a male without blemish:
24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD: it is a sin offering.
25 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out his blood at the bottom of the altar of burnt offering.
26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.
27 And if any one of the common people sin through ignorance, while he doeth somewhat against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and be guilty;
28 Or if his sin, which he hath sinned, come to his knowledge: then he shall bring his offering, a kid of the goats, a female without blemish, for his sin which he hath sinned.
29 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering in the place of the burnt offering.
30 And the priest shall take of the blood thereof with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the altar.
31 And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat is taken away from off the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall burn it upon the altar for a sweet savour unto the LORD; and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and it shall be forgiven him.
32 And if he bring a lamb for a sin offering, he shall bring it a female without blemish.
33 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin offering, and slay it for a sin offering in the place where they kill the burnt offering.
34 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out all the blood thereof at the bottom of the altar:
35 And he shall take away all the fat thereof, as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace offerings; and the priest shall burn them upon the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed, and it shall be forgiven him.

LEVITICUS 5:1-26
1 And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.
2 Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether it be a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and if it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.
3 Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever uncleanness it be that a man shall be defiled withal, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.
4 Or if a soul swear, pronouncing with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall pronounce with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these.
5 And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that he hath sinned in that thing:
6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a kid of the goats, for a sin offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his sin.
7 And if he be not able to bring a lamb, then he shall bring for his trespass, which he hath committed, two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, unto the LORD; one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering.
8 And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin offering first, and wring off his head from his neck, but shall not divide it asunder:
9 And he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin offering upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be wrung out at the bottom of the altar: it is a sin offering.
10 And he shall offer the second for a burnt offering, according to the manner: and the priest shall make an atonement for him for his sin which he hath sinned, and it shall be forgiven him.
11 But if he be not able to bring two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, then he that sinned shall bring for his offering the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon: for it is a sin offering.
12 Then shall he bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it, even a memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD: it is a sin offering.
13 And the priest shall make an atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in one of these, and it shall be forgiven him: and the remnant shall be the priest's, as a meat offering.
14 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
15 If a soul commit a trespass, and sin through ignorance, in the holy things of the LORD; then he shall bring for his trespass unto the LORD a ram without blemish out of the flocks, with thy estimation by shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass offering:
16 And he shall make amends for the harm that he hath done in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering, and it shall be forgiven him.
17 And if a soul sin, and commit any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments of the LORD; though he wist it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.
18 And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atonement for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and wist it not, and it shall be forgiven him.
19 It is a trespass offering: he hath certainly trespassed against the LORD.
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
3 Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
4 Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found,
5 Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering.
6 And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, a ram without blemish out of the flock, with thy estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest:
7 And the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD: and it shall be forgiven him for any thing of all that he hath done in trespassing therein.

PROPHETS PORTION

ISAIAH 43:21-44:23
21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.
22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.
23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.
24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.
25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.
27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.
28 Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.
1 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
2 Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:
4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.
5 One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.
6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing?
11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.
12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.
16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.
18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.
19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?
21 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.
22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.
23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION

ROMANS 8:1-13
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

HEBREWS 10:1-14
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

HEBREWS 13:10-16
10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.
11 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp.
12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
13 Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.
14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board-Board of Trustees Meeting Highlights February 22, 2011 - Delegations

Energy Efficiency Plans
Cathy Colton presented a report on the Board’s plans and priorities related to improving energy usage.

Part One: outlined the allocation of the Energy Efficient Schools Funding for the 2009/10 and 2010/11 school years which totalled $1,082,786. The funding, received through a Ministry initiative, was used to create environmentally friendly learning spaces, reduce energy use, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and included an energy audit of all schools by Callidus Engineering, upgrades to the lighting
in gymnasiums, HVAC systems, boilers, and windows.(I HOPE SHES NOT FOR HIGH TAXES THREW THIS CARBON TAX SCAM IF SHES FOR THIS ENERGY EFFICIENT PLAN).CHURCHES SHOULD NOT BE FOR THIS GODLESS GREEN SCAM TO MAKE US PAY CARBON TAXES FOR THE GOOD OF THE EARTH WORSHIP.

Part Two: Renewable Energy Funding approved for St. Anthony’s School in Kincardine for a solar project. The Ministry will fund $198,900 of the estimated $203,400 cost. With an Annual Generated Income of $8,769, the payback period is projected at 25 years. The project also provides an educational opportunity for the students. Upgrades to the roof and installation of the Solar Power project is to be completed by the end of August.(BUT WHO PAYS THE $203,000 IN ADVANCE,CITIZENS OF KINCARDINE.IF IT TAKES 25 YRS TO GET THE MONEY BACK.HIGH TAXES IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY THATS HOW.

Part Three: The Ministry has made available a Utility Consumption Database for school boards to help prioritize future capital investments and/or maintenance and renewal plans. While use of this database is optional, the Bruce Grey Catholic DSB has opted to take advantage of this offer Through this data, we will be able to identify schools who are not as efficient as they should be, and this information can help inform decisions about future projects. We will continue to track utility costs using spreadsheets as well.
THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SMART METERS DO TRACK OUR EVERY MOVE.I DON'T LIKE THIS BEING DONE BY THE CATHOLIC SCHOOL BOARD.THE GOVERNMENT TRACKS US IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY ALREADY.NOW THE SCHOOL BOARD OF A CHURCH IS POISONING THE MINDS OF CHILDREN IN SCHOOL TO KEEP TRACK OF ALL THE CONSUMPTION.WHICH MEANS THEY KEEP TRACK OF ALL THE SCHOOLS.CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE OUTRAGED AT OUR EVERY MOVE BEING TRACKED THROUGHT SO CALLED SAVE THE EARTH ENERGY VEHICLES.THIS IS WHAT THIS SCHOOL BRAINWASHING OF STUDENTS KEEPING TRACK WILL ULTIMATELY LEAD TO.

REVELATION 13:16-18
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all,(WORLD SOCIALISM) both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

Part Four: To develop a multi-year energy plan, with the assistance of the School Board Support Branch of the Ministry of Education.

Part Five: To work with an Incentive Program Advisor from the Ministry to help our board to take advantage of the variety of incentives that are available. This has been a free service for our Board and we have been successful on many applications and have received at total of $25,617 in funding through this support.

Authentic Governance through Ethical Leadership
Norm Bethune, Bev Eckensweiler, Bruce MacPherson, and Matt McLean shared highlights from Module 1 of the Ministry Governance training. The primary goal as trustees is to promote student achievement and well being. Student achievement: based on the parable of the talents, as Catholic School Boards, it must be part of our mission to give our students the tools they need to use their talents fully and wisely
Student well-being: our schools must be Christ centred learning environments
Student Faith Formation: as an integral part of the church’s mission to evangelize youth, Catholic schools must develop in our youth a love for God, an appreciation of prayer and character based on Catholic virtues.Board mission and vision: based on moral purpose, shared values and mutual understanding, all of the boards work must be driven by its mission and vision.Stewardship - a call to Christian ministry: we must ensure and safeguard the integrity of the Catholic system, Catholic gospel values must be embedded in policy and procedure, support faith development for staff and board members, employ staff that are committed to the vision, strengthen the homeparish-school partnership, promote public understanding of and support for Catholic education and its vital contribution to the social character of the province.

Hydro One using this area as testing ground
By Paul Jankowski MAR 6,11 PAUL JANKOWSKI Sun Times staff

The Owen Sound region is the testing ground for Hydro One as it looks to update its electricity distribution system to incorporate everything from smart meters to thousands of new generating systems feeding renewable energy from solar panels, biomass generators and wind turbines into the provincial grid.Hydro One's transmission system is very smart. They can operate it remotely, they can see the whole system right across the province from our grid control centre in Barrie and it's highly automated. The distribution system not so much, Dave Watts, the communications lead for the Hydro One's advanced distribution system project, said in a recent interview.A customer has to call us to let us know the power is out. We can't see the system, we can't remotely operate equipment on the system, we can't monitor the health of the system . . . Our work in the Owen Sound area is a first initial step at (changing) that. That work, to begin later this year, consists of modernizing and automating one of the four transformer stations, two of the 30 distribution stations and 20 or so of the few hundred switches, controllers, reclosers and other devices in the Owen Sound region — an area roughly bounded by Tobermory, Hanover, Lake Huron and Stayner, according to Danièle Gauvin, a spokeswoman for Hydro One.

This work will be largely invisible to customers in the short-term. However, over the longer term, the modernization of the system will result in less frequent power interruptions of shorter duration as the new equipment will sense power interruptions automatically, much better data collection on the health of the system, allowing us to make more efficient maintenance and operating decisions and safely and reliably incorporating small renewable cleaner forms of generation on the distribution system,Gauvin said in an e-mail.This work will be largely invisible to customers in the short-term. However, over the longer term, the modernization of the system will result in less frequent power interruptions of shorter duration as the new equipment will sense power interruptions automatically, much better data collection on the health of the system, allowing us to make more efficient maintenance and operating decisions and safely and reliably incorporating small renewable cleaner forms of generation on the distribution system, Gauvin said in an e-mail.Today, when a switch needs to be opened or closed, a line crew would be sent to do that, Watts said. The notion is to automate some of those devices so they can be monitored remotely and worked remotely. The project won't be first of its kind in the industry, according to Watts. Many of the larger utilities in the province, for example Toronto Hydro, they have this automation now.The key difference is geography. Many utilities like Hydro One have widely dispersed, less dense geographies and traditionally this equipment is not used in those geographies. But given the emerging technologies . . . this becomes absolutely doable,he said.

Utilities in Ontario already have the ability to turn down the central air conditioning units of customers who have signed up for the peaksaver program. There are predictions fridges will soon keep track what's inside them and suggest recipes based on that, warn when milk is going bad according to its best before date and be hooked into the Internet or a smartphone app so it can order supplies. Combined those sorts of things with smart meters, which measure when you're using power and how much, and it raises some serous questions how well customers' privacy is protected on the so-called smart grid.Ann Cavoukian, Ontario's information and privacy commissioner, has warned the smart grid has the potential to erode privacy, as new components will be able to collect far more granular data about electricity consumption in the household — from the time you go to bed, to when you shower, to when you eat, to whether you have an electronic security system. But Hydro One, working with Cavoukian and suppliers GE, IBM and Telvent have come up with the gold standard of protection, the privacy commission said at a recent convention. It has been baked into the system at the design stage, Gauvin said. It just sends the encrypted data of here's how much usage there was in this household at this time. It wouldn't say it was a stove that was on versus something else that was on. It wouldn't say this is Mrs. Smith's meter.

There are two components to smart meters, Watts said. One measures electricity use and one is basically a radio that twice a day wakes up and communicates with the meter next to it and to the next meter, to the next meter, to the next meter in a local area network. That network feeds a regional collector and the regional collector sends the data to Hydro One. We, in turn, provide that data to a central data warehouse . . . They verify all the buckets are filled up, all the hourly intervals, then they send it back to us for billing,he said. What you can view today, if I go up to your meter, a conventional meter, I can get your meter number and your usage. With a smart meter same thing, meter number and usage.

It will take about a year to get the Owen Sound region program up and running. How long it will take to roll it out across Hydro One's whole system — the company has 122,000 kilometres of low voltage lines serving 1.3 million customers in Ontario — Watts couldn't say.I don't have a plan that takes me out that far, he said. You would need to do all the appropriate business cases before you decide to roll it out further.Article ID# 3008216

School needs to be demolished: Board
By Denis Langlois MAAR 4,11

It's time for the historic wing of St. Mary's High School to be demolished, says the head of the area's separate school board. We're at the stage now where we're just waiting on the city so we can move forward, Bruce MacPherson, the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board's director of education, said Thursday. He confirmed the next step in the board's redevelopment plan for the Owen Sound high school is to knock down the 120-year-old annex.City council voted Monday to delay by another three weeks a decision on the board's latest plan to demolish the building and replace it with a mostly glass entranceway and monument to commemorate the original school.MacPherson said the board has received no provincial money to finance its demolition and monument plan. That money will come out of the board's existing budget. The board has long said the two-storey 1891 portion of St. Mary's High School is cost prohibitive to repair and slowly shifting in the ground.Public access was blocked off in 2009 and its windows boarded up with plywood.

The board had intended to demolish the structure after an addition on the school's opposite end was built. The new wing opened in 2009.Since then, the board's plan to demolish the boarded-up annex has been put on hold by the city.It wasn't until last April that council withdrew its intention to designate the annex under Ontario Heritage Act legislation. In its decision, council said it would work with the school board to find a mutually satisfactory solution to commemorate the school while permitting its demolition. The two sides have failed to reach a compromise since then. The new plan, brought forward at Monday's council meeting, will be debated on March 21. Coun. Jim McManaman introduced a motion to delay council's decision, saying all of council should be present to vote on the significant matter. The board is seeking permission to build a 73-square-metre, mostly glass addition to the school to replace the annex at the school's west end.

The entranceway features of the original school would be reconstructed, after demolition, using materials from the old annex, to create a monument to the old school, according to plans submitted to city hall by the school board.Staff is recommending council approve the plan, but require the board to submit a three-dimensional electronic survey of the historic building's exterior and photographs of the interior for preservation before a demolition permit is issued. It is also recommending that council require the school board to detail how original materials from the demolished annex would be salvaged to create the monument. Staff is also recommending a completion deadline of February 2012 for demolition of the original school and construction of the new entranceway.Article ID# 3006294

OPG's Deep Geologic Repository EIS document to be released in March
Six-month public consultation period to commence after publication
By Troy Patterson, Kincardine News Staff, The Kincardine News
Posted MAR 4,11 - THE SUN TIMES

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is confident of its public safety and environmental case, heading into the next milestone for Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) proposed Deep Geologic Repository (DGR) for low and intermediate-level nuclear waste.Municipality of Kincardine council was unanimous in it support as the host community, after an update on the project at the March 3 council meeting.

This month (March 2011), NMWO is anticipating the submission of the DGR Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Preliminary Safety Report and Technical Support Documents to the Joint Review Panel, consisting of technical experts from the federal Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).Once submitted, the extensive 10,000-page document, and 60-page summary will be made available to the public for a sixth-month review period.Anything you ever wanted to know about the project is there, said NWMO's Marie Wilson, whose federal organization is providing technical services and regulatory support for DGR owner, operator and licensee, OPG. The profile will be heightened during this time, both regionally and nationally. The proposed repository would be built 680-metres beneath the surface, with a multiple-layer, 200-metre cap of shale and sedimentary, low-permeable limestone above the site to protect the environment from any radioactive decay climbing upwards over thousands of years, said Wilson. What we have are ideal geologic conditions for this repository, said Wilson. The formations are predictable.
OPG and NWMO are committed to communicating with the public in a transparent and open manner, through an all-encompassing public consultation program in the coming months. Once public consultation is complete, a public hearing is scheduled for 2012 before the Joint Review Panel, who will make a recommendation to the federal government. If approved by cabinet, OPG/NWMO will be granted a site preparation and construction license in 2012, with the facility expected to be operational as early as 2018.

In an effort to maintain a public presence and keep the region informed, the NWMO has been promoting the DGR project through multiple forms of media, regional newsletters and attendance at public events. This project won't succeed unless we have strong community support, she said. The DGR will be constructed if it is safety to do so and only with regulatory approval and community support, she said.Wilson said they have a wealth of data to draw from after an intensive four-year geologic investigation at the site. The project has drawn the attention of world-class geologists, engineers and ecological experts, who have helped validate the case though a peer review process, she said. The DGR project will not have any adverse effects on the public or the environment, said Wilson. The series of two panels of repositories will have a capacity to store up to 200,000 cubic metres of low and intermediate-level nuclear waste at the Bruce site, north of Kincardine, about 1km inland from the lake at the Western Waste Management Facility. The body of waste will consist of about 75% low level operational waste (incinerated clothing, maintenance/cleaning supplies), 15% intermediate level operational waste (irradiated tools, reactor components and resin used to clean moderator water), as well as an additional 10% made up of low and intermediate-level refurbishment waste. The material will be collected from all of OPG's 20 reactors, including six of the eight reactors in service that are leased to Bruce Power. As part of their safety case, Wilson stressed there is no risk to local groundwater or Lake Huron, as drinkable water only exists within the first 100 metres below ground and Lake Huron's deepest point at the Bruce site is 200-metres.Our case is very solid about our ability to protect the lake, she said, adding the only traces of water found at level are miniscule and prehistoric, with a salinity eight to 10 times that of ocean water.

She stressed they are seeking a license for only low and intermediate-level nuclear waste, not used nuclear fuel which is a completely separate project for NMWO through Adaptive Phased Management. Used fuel storage is prohibited by the Municipality of Kincardine under a Memorandum of Understanding and would require a public referendum to allow the document to be altered.Council has said it is not interested in used fuel, she said. That will not change.Municipality of Kincardine mayor Larry Kraemer, Deputy Mayor Anne Eadie and councillors praised OPG and the NWMO for turning them from skeptics to believers that this is the right thing to do.At the very first, I wasn't even clear on the difference in waste, said Eadie. You've done an excellent job getting information across to the public.Councillor Mike Leggett questioned what would be done with the hundreds of thousands of tonnes of aggregate extracted from the site. Wilson said they have accounted for the waste rock and have a plan to address the issue.Kraemer, who as mayor in 2002 who toured similar long-term nuclear storage facilities and repositories in Switzerland, France and Sweden, said the OPG DGR safety case has gone beyond the best facilities in the world of similar design to get to this point. He said the closest resemblance to the DGR's design is a facility about 50-metres under the Baltic Sea at a Swedish nuclear facility in Forsmark.

I think the safety case is far stronger here... at well over 2,000-feet, you could stick the CN tower in it and have a couple hundred metres of fill on top, that's how deep it is,said Kraemer. All of what we saw (in Europe) was the best in the world. What we have here will be the best ever built... the geology is as close to perfect as we can get.Kraemer said the public and political representatives from each country were optimistic about the safety of the projects, as well as the economic benefits they bring to communities.Every municipality we visited representatives recommended we go forward, even those who weren't in favour before it was in place, he said.

Senator wants nuclear a major player in nation's energy future
By TROY PATTERSON , KINCARDINE NEWS STAFF MAR 2,11

Canadian Senator David Angus praised Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) in a speech leaning on nuclear power as a mature green alternative to meet Canada's future electricity needs.Angus' speech Preparing for our Energy Future -Towards a Canadian Sustainable Energy Strategy was delivered during the Canadian Nuclear Association's Nuclear Industry Conference and Trade Show last Thursday (Feb. 24).

With over 700 in attendance from 15 countries, the event brought together nuclear industry companies, suppliers, trade organizations and other energy professionals from around the world.Despite the publicity surrounding Atomic Energy of Canada's (AECL) financing and restructuring, the Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources supports the Crown corporation, its 62-year track record and its future as a relatively cheap form of electricity that Canadians can rely on, Angus said. With upwards of $50 billion invested in the CANDU nuclear technology, which has seen a recent resurgence in interest, he said misspending in the past shouldn't qualify it for disassembly.I can't conceive how this kind of baby could be thrown out with the bath water, said Angus, who has recently been touring Canada's nuclear sites. There's nothing like being there and that's what we're telling the Prime Minister. Canada may be off the rails right now... but with passionate leaders like (Bruce's) Duncan Hawthorne and Tom Mitchell (OPG)... we're so impressed by nuclear.Angus said the committee understands Ontario's commitment to nuclear power, adding it's not spoiled by financial issues that have impacted refurbishment projects.

The committee's goal is to research Canada's future energy needs, balancing out traditional technologies like nuclear, hydro-electric and natural gas, while considering the place for newer technologies like wind and solar power. He said with about 15 groups doing similar studies on Canada's electrical future, there are regional, national, economic and cooperative challenges that will all impact its overall outcome. He compared the Canadian public's uncertainty with nuclear power to that of France or Japan, adding the Canadian public is paranoid that a Chernobyl or Three Mile Island-type nuclear incident is bound to happen here. Angus said France is the opposite, with 93% of its electricity from nuclear plants and a similar level of support for nuclear power in Japan. They don't have our luxuries or alternatives, or the social issues with waste, he said.Considering Ontario's policy to shutdown coal generating plants, Angus said his sources have made it clear the scrubber technologies to significantly cut back carbon emissions are years from becoming financially viable for wide-spread use, making it not realistic. The technology is miles away from being viable, he said. With each province handling its power needs differently, the committee is looking forward to seeing how energy policies are developed across Canada, so they may use their data in their research to determine what should be recommended for Canada's energy future.I think Canada is so well placed to take the lead in so many things, said Angus. We want Canadians to understand what we have and not be reticent about trying new things.Their research is focused on the debate Canadians are having on what do we want in terms of power generation, as the world is expected to increase in population from 6.8 to 9.2 billion over the next 40 years. He said energy conservation can save upwards of 20% of Canada's future electricity needs, but the public and electricity distributors have to be willing to make investments, cut back and do what needs to be done to save electricity regularly. We want the cleanest and cheapest form of energy, but we have to stop the waste, said Angus.Article ID# 2999032
