REVELATION 18:9-11,15-21
9 And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,(NUKE ATTACK I BELIEVE)
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16 And saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18 And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
China defense chief says military hardware drive no threat
JAN 10,11
(Reuters) - BEIJING, Jan 9 (Reuters) – China's military technology lags decades behind the world's most advanced armed forces and does not threaten any country, the Chinese defense minister said on Monday after talks with Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Gates's visit from Sunday to Wednesday comes a week before Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visit to Washington. The efforts that we place on the research and development of weapons systems are by no means targeted at any third country or any other countries in the world, and it will by no means threaten any other country in the world, Chinese Minister of Defense Liang Guanglie told reporters after talks with Gates.U.S. officials have noted quick advances in China's anti-ship ballistic missile programme, which could challenge U.S. aircraft carriers. China may also be preparing to launch its first aircraft carrier in 2011, faster than some estimates, and new photos indicate it has a prototype of a stealth fighter jet.(Reporting by Ben Blanchard; Writing by Chris Buckley)
Gates says China moving fast on new weapons
By ANNE GEARAN, AP National Security Writer - JAN 10,11
BEIJING – The U.S. defense secretary says China's rapidly developing defense capabilities are worrisome to the United States. Robert Gates is on a long-awaited visit to Beijing to formally reopen military exchanges and is meeting Monday with his Chinese counterparts.China has made strides in building a new stealth fighter jet, and Washington is also concerned about a new ballistic missile that could theoretically explode a U.S. aircraft carrier nearly 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) out to sea. China has also apparently beaten U.S. estimates to develop that weapon.
Gates met Monday with Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie and will remain in Beijing until Wednesday. He plans to meet with other top Chinese leaders, including president and Communist Party chief Hu Jintao, who is himself scheduled to travel to the U.S. next week for a state visit.Gates is the first U.S. defense secretary to visit Beijing since 2000. His trip marks the official restoration of contacts with the Chinese military that were suspended by Beijing last year after the U.S. announced a $6.4 billion arms package for Taiwan.Gates told reporters traveling with him to Asia on Sunday that China had the potential to put some of our capabilities at risk.We have to pay attention to them. We have to respond appropriately with our own programs, Gates said. The United States has long known that China wanted to field a stealth jet, but development outpaced U.S. intelligence estimates, Gates said.
China is still years behind U.S. capabilities in radar-evading aircraft, and even by 2025 the United States would still have far more such aircraft flying than any other nation in the world, Gates said.China says it does not pose a threat and its military forces are purely for defense — which by Beijing's definition includes deterring Taiwan, the self-governing island that Beijing claims as its territory, from declaring formal independence. In an apparent nod to U.S. calls for more openness, China allowed video and pictures of last week's runway tests of its prototype stealth fighter to be taken and posted online.Gates is trying to coax Chinese military leaders into more regular discussions with the U.S.The Pentagon is focusing scarcer defense dollars on ways to counter the kinds of weapons China is now building. For example, Gates said recently that he wants to spend more on a new long-range nuclear bomber and updated electronics gear for the Navy that could throw an incoming missile off course.Gates will also visit South Korea for talks about averting war with the North, as well as Japan, which is alarmed by Chinese military moves.
CHINA AND KINGS OF THE EAST MARCH TO ISRAEL (MIDEAST)IN 2ND WAVE OF WW3
SKorea, Japan to discuss first-ever military pact By HYUNG-JIN KIM, Associated Press - JAN 10,11
SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean and Japanese defense chiefs will start military talks on accords to share intelligence and provide each other with fuel and medical support.A Defense Ministry official said Monday that the accords, if signed, will be the countries' first military treaty since Tokyo's colonial rule of the Korean peninsula ended in 1945.The official says the accords won't be signed during Monday's one-day talks. It was unclear when the signing could happen. The official spoke on condition of anonymity citing the issue's sensitivity.South Korea and Japan are important trading and diplomatic partners. But their relations still suffer over territorial and historical disputes stemming from Japan's brutal 35-year colonial occupation.
JERUSALEM DIVIDED
ZECHARIAH 12:1-5 King James Bible
1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.
JOEL 3:2
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
ZECHARIAH 14:1-9 King James Bible
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
Redeeming Jerusalem is Theme of Beit Orot Event
by Fern Sidman, INN NY Correspondent JAN 10,11
On January 5, hundreds of pro-Israel activists and supporters gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New York for a celebration of the famed Beit Orot yeshiva and community on Har Hazeitim (the Mount of Olives) in the northern part of East Jerusalem. The master of ceremonies was long time radio personality Nachum Segal (JM in the AM) who said, referring to the controversy that swirls around the U.S. demand that construction of new Jewish homes and yeshivas in East Jerusalem come to a screeching halt, I am one who believes that Jews should be able to live wherever they choose in the land that was bequeathed to them by G-d and which is their possession and inheritance. The holy city of Jerusalem takes on special significance for the Jewish people as it has been the Jewish capital for thousands of years and every inch of this precious city must maintain a Jewish presence. The Beit Orot hesder yeshiva, in which students combine Torah study with serving in the Israel Defense Forces, represents the epicenter of the Har Hazeitim developing neighborhood and is the first Jewish presence in over 2000 years in this part of Jerusalem. Also known as The Irving Moskowitz Yeshiva and Campus, it stands on the strategically crucial northern ridge of the Mount of Olives and boasts a most spectacular view of the old city of Jerusalem.
Seth H. Schreiber, Chairman of the Board of Americans Friends of Beit Orot, said, We will never allow the powers that be to stop us from building our homes in our own land. We just recently got our license to build and we are committed to continue to build a strong and united Jerusalem as we secure our future for generations to come. He added that when a Jew builds a home in his own land, he is charged with inciting global unrest, while the real terrorists who refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and who proudly proclaim their desire to obliterate the Jewish people are viewed as downtrodden victims. The evening included a video presentation of the testimony of Rabbi Chanan Porat, a founder of Beit Orot, who spoke of losing his beloved platoon commander, Giora Ashkenazi to Arab forces in the 1967 war. Giora was not religious but was as straight as a man can be, Rabbi Porat said with tears in his eyes. I always wondered who would say kaddish for him and today his grandchildren are religious Jews. His grandson comes to Beit Orot to recite kaddish for him and his wife supports our efforts to build in the very place that Giora gave his life for his people.A formidable contingent of attendees at the dinner represented Americans For a Safe Israel (AFSI), a pro-Israel advocacy organization that has been in the forefront of support for the building of Jewish homes and communities throughout Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.(IsraelNationalNews.com)
Navy Readies for its New Submarines
by Gil Ronen JAN 9,11
The Israel Navy is making advanced preparations to absorb two new German-made Dolphin-class submarines, IDF journal Bamachaneh reported in its latest issue. The number of soldiers selected for submarine warfare has grown by 30% in the latest IDF recruitment batches, in order to man the additional submarines. The Navy currently has three submarines, also of the Dolphin class, so the addition of two subs means that the force is growing 66% bigger. We are in mid-process and are slowly adding more crews to be trained for service in the submarines, explained Naval Instruction Base Commander Col. Ronen Nimni. We are also taking care to add crew commanders who closely mentor the soldiers.More officers are being trained for submarine posts as well. The number of cadets who will be trained for submarine command positions is rising by 35%.According to an article in World Politics Review, Israel's three submarines reportedly carry nuclear-tipped cruise missiles of an unidentified type.
The missiles, part of Israel's estimated 100-strong nuclear arsenal, reportedly have a range of up to 800 miles. The subs probably cannot hit Iran without passing through the Suez into the Red Sea and ultimately the Indian Ocean. The Red Sea is also the best route to the Gulf of Oman, where Israeli ships and submarines might enforce a blockade of Iran, during wartime.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Liberal Smear Machine Backfires After Gunman Found To Be Occultist, Pot-Smoking Left Winger - Related: Arizona Assassin Obsessed With Mind Control Alex Jones & Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com January 10, 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj47lB1a-0Y&feature=player_embedded
A full scale demonization campaign against conservatives, free speech and the Second Amendment on behalf of Democrats and the establishment media in the wake of Saturday’s shootings has sensationally backfired after it emerged that gunman Jared Lee Loughner was a left-wing, pot-smoking liberal who was into dressing like the grim reaper and dabbling in the occult. In their fervor to tear down the First and Second Amendments, Democrats and their allies in the corporate media hastily characterized Loughner as an anti-government right-winger in their rush to link him to the Tea Party and Sarah Palin, a connection that is still being invoked as Dems seek to rush through gun control legislation as well as a bill that could make criticism of government a form of hate speech. However, precisely as Alex Jones forecast on his show last night, it has emerged this morning that Loughner is a devil-worshipper wannabe who idolized fake human skulls and dressed up like the grim reaper. How often have you witnessed a tear partier, an anti-government activist or a conservative engage in any of the following behaviors, all of which are confirmed to have been conducted by Loughner. (1) (2) (3) (4)
- Burning the American flag
- Being a left-winger and a liberal
- Smoking pot
- Having long hair
- Dressing up as the grim reaper
- Dabbling in the occult by worshipping a replica of a human skull
- Expressing the desire to be a woman
- Describing Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto as a favorite book
Does it sound like Jared Lee Loughner was a right-wing conservative, as the liberal smear machine is attempting to claim? Despite the fact that Loughner’s former classmate described him as quite liberal and left wing, the New York Times, Washington Post, along with a host of statist blogs like Huffington Post and the Daily Kos, were beating the drum for so-called right-wingers (opponents of Obamacare or big government) to be politically silenced in the name of toning down the rhetoric. In reality, Loughner’s political views were all over the map, sharing characteristics of conservatism, liberalism and libertarianism. He was a fundamentally disturbed and deranged individual, which was the main reason for the carnage he become embroiled in, not because he was a tea partier influenced by the resistance against big government, as the establishment is now trying to claim.
The haste with which the attack machine had manufactured Loughner’s persona before his name was even known as a dangerous right-winger proves that the establishment had already embarked on a sickening plan to exploit the tragedy mere minutes after news of the shootings broke. We don’t even have a clear motive for why Loughner apparently targeted Congressman Giffords. Indeed, since both Giffords and federal judge John Roll were both very conservative in their policies towards gun control and immigration, how do we know that Loughner’s anger wasn’t rooted in leftist rage?
Another key facet to this story is the fact that Loughner’s mental instability was well known on his campus, and yet “College authorities ignored repeated warnings that the drug-taking 22-year-old was a potential danger, a former teacher claimed last night.Despite the fact that Loughner’s profile is now confirmed as a black-clad, occult-dabbling, pot smoking unstable loner, in a similar mould to Columbine killers Harrison and Klebold, the establishment is still blaming so-called right-wing radio and talk show hosts for the tragedy and demanding that Americans “tone down their rhetoric,’ which is a mere euphemism for a brazen attempt to stifle criticism of the state altogether.Speaking to Fox News, the father of the 9-year-old girl killed as a result of Loughner’s rampage commendably labeled the tragic events a random act and said that the death of his daughter should not be exploited to revoke freedoms.Speaking on the subject of how travel became a nightmare after 9/11, John Green said, We don’t need any more restrictions on our society, as a consequence of the shootings, and said that tragic events such as those that led to the murder of his daughter was the price Americans have to pay for freedom.
Unclear whether shooter's motivation was political By MICHAEL R. BLOOD, AP Political Writer – Mon Jan 10, 5:53 am ET
TUCSON, Ariz. – Soften the political tone: that's been the message from lawmakers from across the nation since a gunman tried to assassinate an Arizona congresswoman and killed six people after posting confusing online rants about his views.Yet as an image of the suspected shooter emerges, friends and online ramblings paint a picture of a troubled young man whose beliefs are unclear. Some Democrats have suggested 22-year-old Jared Loughner was motivated by anti-government language from the tea party movement and rabble-rousing rhetoric from conservative figures such as Sarah Palin. The House temporarily postponed the debate over repealing the health care law.But tea party activists in the state said the man identified as the suspect did not appear on mailing lists and did not appear to have attended any events in the state.
I don't think his ideology is anything coherent, said Trent Humphries, co-founder of the Tucson Tea Party.I just think he was a very, very disturbed individual. The tragedy at a Tucson shopping mall has left behind politically tricky ground for both parties, which are maneuvering carefully as details from the shooting emerge. The attack occurred after a turbulent political season marked by tea party energy that that helped return control of the House to Republicans and bolstered conservative ranks around the nation. Arizona has been a hotbed of political strife, particularly over its tough illegal immigration law.Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is a moderate Democrat who narrowly won re-election in November against a tea party-backed candidate who campaigned against the health care law. The suspected shooter registered as an independent in 2006, and he voted in the November 2008 presidential election, according to the secretary of state. At an event about three years ago, Giffords took a question from Loughner: What is government if words have no meaning?
Loughner was angry about her response — she read the question and had nothing to say, according to two of his high school friends who spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they wanted to avoid the publicity surrounding the case.Steven Cates, who attended an advanced poetry writing class with Loughner at Pima Community College last spring, said he didn't recall Loughner talking about politics. He didn't seem very interested in politics. Whatever politics were brought up in class, he seemed to tune it out, Cates said.According to his cryptic Web postings, Loughner feared he was the target of government surveillance and considered police authority unconstitutional. He railed against the Education Department and questions the value of U.S. currency not backed by gold or silver.I can't trust the current government, he wrote in one video posted online, one of several expressing deep suspicion of authority. The government is implying mind control and brainwash on the people by controlling the grammar.Elsewhere, Loughner lists favorite books including Mein Kampf and The Communist Manifesto, along with two novels about control of the masses, Animal Farm and Brave New World.
The postings suggest Loughner is a person who doesn't have a very concrete ideology, said Frederic L. Solop, chair of the Department of Politics and International Affairs at Northern Arizona University. I don't see any reflection of a political party or a specific set of ideas. An official familiar with the investigation said local authorities are looking at a possible connection between Loughner and an online group known for its anti-government rhetoric. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation. The anti-government organization American Renaissance is connected to the white supremacist New Century Foundation, according to an analysis by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based group that tracks hate crimes. The group's leaders said in a posting on their website that Loughner never subscribed to their magazine, registered for any of the group's conferences or visited their Internet site. One of the high school friends who spoke on condition of anonymity paused when asked if he considered Loughner a Republican or Democrat. Is there a radical party? It went beyond that, it wasn't left or right, the friend said.Associated Press writers Justin Pritchard in Tucson, Ariz. and Eileen Sullivan in Washington contributed to this report.
SPLC blames Ayn Rand, David Icke and Others for Arizona Shooting
Aaron Dykes Infowars.com January 8, 2011
Who is to blame for Jared Loughner’s bizarre shooting yesterday? According to Mark Potok, anyone with even the vaguest links to his bizarre and disjointed online ramblings. As a shocked world looks to the background of accused shooter Jared Lee Loughner for clues as to why he would shoot a Congresswoman, a Federal judge and others, Mark Potok, spokesman for the Southern Poverty Law Center, predictably stepped forward on Keith Olbermann’s MSNBC program to paint a broad brush against the radical right, whom he automatically deems responsible for the shootings.Going from the books posted on the accused shooter’s You Tube reading list, Potok deceitfully attempts to connect him to author Ayn Rand’s We The Living while ignoring Loughner’s praise for the Communist Manifesto and national socialist Hitler’s Mein Kampf.Even more outrageously, Potok excerpts a vague term used by Loughner about conscience dreaming, which he says he studied in college, and links it to new age speaker, British author and ‘conspiracy theorist’ David Icke, despite the fact that nothing known about Loughner has ever mentioned Icke or his work. Not only is this an example of unjustified guilt-by-association, but David Icke has manifestly promoted non-violence throughout his decades of work. Further conscious dreaming is a term often linked to yoga practices and Eastern philosophy not radical right wing ideology.
Because Loughner allegedly posted statements about gold and silver-backed currency on his MySpace and other postings, Mark Potok further connects Loughner to right wingers on this point; however, it is the Constitution, in Article I Section 10, which demands that No State shall… make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts.Loughner’s You Tube account further includes a bizarre video titled, How to: Your New Currency, wherein he makes such incoherent and repetitive statements as If I’m thinking of creating a new coin that’s in my control as treasurer then I’m thinking my new coin is starting a new currency system. I’m thinking of creating a new coin that’s in my control as treasurer. Hence I’m thinking my new coin is starting a new currency system.Regardless of why Loughner advocated gold & silver currency, the position has nothing to do with violent action, nor is it patently connected to the so-called radical right.Potok and his Southern Poverty Law Center are searching for a broader enemy so they can demonize political opponents and chill free speech in general. Jared Lee Loughner’s actions are deplorable and disgusting, but there is no reason to believe it was motivated, endorsed or encouraged by the right wing or any other known political faction. Indeed, the motivation for the accused assassin’s shootings may be hard to pinpoint, as he has many incoherent ramblings which may add up to nothing in particular at all.
Sticks & Stones, Not Words, Cause Injury
Even if other clues about Loughner’s background– such as his being a liberal atheist, critic of government-controlled grammar, admirer of the Communist Manifesto, of death music and abortion, or anti-semitic groups– played a role in his going overboard, it is no reason to demonize anyone else matching that background. Potok’s words are influential, and he should be more cautious about casting blame in the direction of any given political movement. Already publications like Politico and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel have run with the idea that Loughner’s murders and near-fatal shootings were triggered by right wing conspiracy theorists.Until there is evidence this shooting was caused by anyone other than Loughner himself, people like Potok should put down the blame game. Everyone recognizes that this incident was a tragedy. Alleged links to writers, deceased or otherwise, that Loughner supposedly read may factor into his bizarre background, but have no apparent connection to the shootings’ motivation, nor do they construct a comprehensive pattern. Why then would Potok seek to connect a web of right-wing rhetoric to this killer? That is the war on free speech waging in Potok’s own mind (and he has been at long before this unfortunate incident).

Jared Loughner is described as a left-wing political radical.A classmate of the man accused of shooting Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords this morning describes him as left wing and a pot head in a series of posts on Twitter this afternoon.Caitie Parker did not immediately respond to our request for an interview, but her tweets in the hours after the shooting paint a picture of Jared Loughner as a substance-abusing loner who had met Giffords before the shooting. She says, Loughner described the congresswoman as stupid and unintelligent. We've confirmed that Parker and Loughner went to school together at Mountain View High School in Tucson and that both attended Pima Community College, so her claims of knowing Loughner seem to be legit.Parker tweets that she and Loughner were in the band together and were friends until 2007 when he became reclusive after getting alcohol poisoning and dropping out of college. She describes him as quite liberal and as a political radical.Below is a log of tweets posted by Parker beginning around the time of the shooting.

DOCTOR DOCTORIAN FROM ANGEL OF GOD
then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.
JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
REVELATION 18:10,17,19
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.
REVELATION 13:16-18

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Portugal under pressure to seek EU/IMF aid: source
By Jan Strupczewski – Sun Jan 9, 6:43 pm ET
BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Pressure is growing on Portugal from Germany, France and other euro zone countries to seek financial help from the EU and IMF to stop the bloc's debt crisis from spreading, a senior euro zone source said on Sunday. Some preliminary discussions on the possibility of Portugal asking for help if its financing costs on markets become too high have taken place since July, the source said.No formal talks on aid have started yet, a number of euro zone sources said, but the pressure was rising in the Eurogroup, which brings together euro zone finance ministers.France and Germany have indicated in the context of the Eurogroup that Portugal should apply for help sooner rather than later, the senior source said, adding Finland and the Netherlands had expressed similar views.
But Germany denied any pressure.
It is not the strategy of the German government to push Portugal to take the bailout, said Steffen Seibert, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman.Earlier on Sunday, a Portuguese government spokesman denied a German magazine report that Lisbon was under pressure from Berlin and Paris to seek a bailout from the European Union and International Monetary Fund.Leading Portuguese newspaper Publico on Sunday joined the ranks of those who think a bailout is inevitable. Only a miracle will save us from the IMF, a Publico editorial read. Many policymakers hope EU/IMF financing for Portugal would ring fence the euro zone debt crisis, in which Greece and Ireland have taken bailouts. Before Ireland got its 85-billion-euro ($109.7 billion) bailout late last year there were reports of pressure from core euro zone countries for Dublin to accept an aid package.Lisbon has repeatedly denied it is facing pressure or needs a bailout in recent months -- there have been frequent reports that such help may become necessary.Help for Lisbon would aim to protect Spain, which might be next in line, but whose financing needs would stretch current euro zone aid capabilities to the limit. The real battle will be the battle of Spain -- but there I think we have much higher chances of success, the source said.Asked to estimate the possible size of a program Portugal could need, the source said: More than 50 billion euros and less than 100 billion euros, say between 60 and 80 billion, but this is off the cuff, because we don't know the needs of the Portuguese banking sector.
BOND YIELDS
Portugal is viewed by many economists as the peripheral euro zone country most likely to follow Ireland and Greece as it grapples to cut its debts and borrowing costs.A Reuters poll of economists last week showed almost all expected Portugal to need a bailout.Portugal has not requested it -- you cannot force somebody to want something, a second senior euro zone source said. Strictly arithmetically speaking, it would not be necessary, but given the hysterics of some market participants it may become useful. The growing pressure on Lisbon follows a sharp rise in Portuguese 10-year bond yields at the end of last week to euro lifetime highs above 7 percent, as investors worried about the prospect of up to 1.25 billion euros of bond supply it will offer at an auction on Wednesday. The yield of five-year Portuguese bonds on the secondary market is 6.43 percent and 10-year paper trades at 7.26 percent. Economists say a key question for Portugal is how long it can sustain the high yield levels, and the auction will be an important gauge of that. That auction will be very closely watched, the first source said. There had already been pressure on Lisbon to ask for financial help before an EU leaders' summit in mid-December, but to no effect, the first source said, because Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates opposes such a move. There are still memories in Portugal of the IMF program of the 1970s and the loss of sovereignty that it entails, the source said.Asked when Portugal could be forced to turn to the EU and the IMF for help, the first source said it depended on yield developments, the position of Socrates and how much pressure German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy were willing to apply.
The five-year paper is above the cost of funding that Portugal would get under EU/IMF aid, the source said.Portuguese opposition leader Pedro Passos Coelho said on Sunday if the country were forced to seek foreign financing the government would not be in a position to continue ruling as its policies would have failed.(Additional reporting by Axel Bugge in Lisbon; editing by Jon Boyle)
Economists foretell of U.S. decline, China's ascension
By Mark Felsenthal – Sun Jan 9, 12:32 pm ET
DENVER (Reuters) – To hear a number of prominent economists tell it, it doesn't look good for the U.S. economy, not this year, not in 10 years.Leading thinkers in the dismal science speaking at an annual convention offered varying visions of U.S. economic decline, in the short, medium and long term. This year, the recovery may bog down as government stimulus measures dry up.In the long run, the United States must face up to inevitably being overtaken by China as the world's largest economy. And it may have missed a chance to rein in its largest financial institutions, many of whom remain too big to fail and are getting bigger. On the one hand, Harvard's Martin Feldstein said he believes the outlook for U.S. economic growth in 2011 is less sanguine than many believe.First, the boost to growth from government spending will be drying up this year, he said. Renewal of expiring tax cuts is no more than a decision not to raise taxes, and the impact of one-year payroll tax cut is likely modest, he said. There's really not much help coming from fiscal policy in the year ahead, he said. Woes from the dire situations of state and local governments may actually be a drag on growth, he said.Growth got a lift from a lower saving rate in 2010, but that probably will not last this year as households worried about an uncertain future return to paring back debt and socking more away, Feldstein added. Discouraging declines in home values mean there is less to save from, he said.People are worried, so there's a strong reason for precautionary saving, he said.
THE RACE IS ON
On the other hand, there is the race with China and the dynamic Asian economies, including India. Most estimates put the size of the Chinese economy on par with the United States by the early 2020s, said Dale Jorgenson, also of Harvard.Jorgenson sees Asian emerging markets as the most dynamic in the world, eclipsing other emerging market contenders such as Brazil and Russia with steady growth over the next decade. The rise of developing Asia is going to accompany slower world economic growth, he said. The United States will need to come to terms with the fact that its prevalence in the world is fated to come to an end, Jorgenson said. This will be difficult for many Americans to swallow and the United States should brace for social unrest amid blame over who was responsible for squandering global primacy, he said.MIT's Simon Johnson put it more bluntly, saying the damage from the financial crisis and its aftermath have dealt U.S. prominence a permanent blow. The age of American predominance is over, he told a panel. The (Chinese) Yuan will be the world's reserve currency within two decades.Johnson said he believes the United States has failed to learn its lesson from the financial crisis and continues to implicitly back its largest financial institutions.I'm concerned about the excessive power of the largest global banks, he said. Who are the government-sponsored enterprises now? It's the six biggest bank holding companies. To be sure, Raghuram Rajan, a former IMF chief economist now with the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business, could still envision an ongoing U.S. leadership role.
Nothing proceeds in a straight line, he said, and there are many pitfalls along the way even for dynamic Asian economies. I would say the age of American dominance may be nearing an end. But America as the biggest mover will be in place for a long time,he said.(Reporting by Mark Felsenthal; Editing by Maureen Bavdek)
Brussels wants bondholders to help pay for bank failures
LEIGH PHILLIPS 07.01.2011 @ 09:11 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The public would be spared from further pain in bailing out banks in the future, with bondholders instead footing more of the bill under plans unveiled on Thursday (6 January) by the European Commission to give EU national regulators more powers to intervene ahead of any crisis. The EU executive outlined a series of ideas up for discussion that suggest bondholders should be forced to accept a haircut on their investments in a troubled bank or convert their bonds into equity.Reacting to high-profile banking failures during the economic crisis from Belgium's Fortis, to the crash of US investment house Lehman Brothers, to Icelandic banks and Ireland's debt-engorged Anglo Irish Bank, EU member states have chosen to bail out their banking sector, with private debt being shifted wholesale over to the public sector. Governments support for banks has amounted to 13 percent of GDP, according to commission figures.Capitals have since used the opportunity to impose sweeping austerity measures as a way to pay for the tab, moves that have proved massively unpopular amongst citizens who complain that they are paying the price of a crisis they did not create. The impact on taxpayers is obvious, the EU executive said in a statement, adding that the existing arrangements covering how to deal with such crises retained serious shortcomings. We must put in place a system which ensures that Europe is well prepared to deal with bank failures in an orderly manner - without taxpayers being called on again to pay the costs, said internal market commissioner Michel Barnier.
Under the proposals, which would see a so-called bail-in from investors, national authorities would be given the power to write down or convert debt into equity in the failing bank. However, out of fear of setting off fresh panic in the markets, the commission stresses that such measures would only affect future debt, with existing bondholders spared any such pain.It is not envisaged that such a power would apply to existing debt that is currently in issue, as that could be disruptive, it explained.Under the outlined proposals, national regulators would be given powers to react to brewing banking failures earlier on, including the ability to impose a replacement of management, force a bank to stop engaging in excessively risky activities, or require the bank to implement a recovery plan. Regulators could also be able to appoint a special manager, a Mr Fix-It parachuted in for a short period to run the firm. The commission also hopes to see the development of a framework for EU cross-border co-ordination in the event of future banking failures. During the crisis, cross-border responses to banking disasters have been ad-hoc, the EU executive worries. In the future, national authorities would co-ordinate their responses to ensure financial stability in all affected member states in order to achieve an outcome that best benefits the EU as a whole. The proposals are currently at the consultation stage, with fleshed out legislative initiatives not expected before the summer. They also focus only on banks. Similar measures focusing on insurance firms and other types of financial institutions are to be unveiled before the end of the year. However, markets were quick to react to Brussels' call on them to pay up, with interest rates on Portuguese and Spanish government bonds jumping.
After Lisbon announced it was to attempt a sale of between €750 million and €1.24 billion in bonds next Wednesday, yield spreads between Portuguese debt and German bonds climbed to 4.14 percentage points.Belgian rates also climbed to 4.05 percent for ten-year bonds, although analysts regard this as more of a reaction to the latest episode in the ongoing failure of the countries' Flemish and francophone parties failure to form a government. Johan Vande Lanotte, a mediator appointed by the king resigned, declaring: You can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink.A government coalition has yet to form since the general election, which tool place on 13 June last year.
EU and Israel at odds on how to lift Gaza siege
ANDREW RETTMAN 06.01.2011 @ 09:29 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Israel has said that a new EU-sponsored force could see the re-opening of Gaza crossing points. But the union's Gaza plan falls short of hard security guarantees. If you want to bring about a lifting of the closure around Gaza you should take responsibility and establish a strong, real and effective force to prevent smuggling there ... I can promise you that the minute the smuggling of arms into Gaza stops, the closure will be lifted, Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman said in a communique to press after meeting EU foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton in Jerusalem on Wednesday (5 January).Close co-operation between Israel and the EU can end the smuggling and terror against Israel, removal of the siege and even the release of Gilad Shalit, the communique added, referring to the Israeli soldier being held by Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza. The Lieberman statement appears to be a potential breakthrough for EU efforts to end the Gaza siege, imposed by Israel after Hamas took power in the strip in 2007.A contact in the Ashton delegation told this website on Thursday that it is difficult to see how the security force idea fits in with the EU's current offer, however. We have offered a three-pronged approach: help with infrastructure, equipment and training of Palestinian officials on the border, to help revive Gaza's economy and make sure we meet Israeli security concerns, the EU source explained. The contact said the union wants to reopen the Kerem Shalom crossing point on the Egypt-Gaza-Israel border, even though Hamas would prefer to reopen the Rafah crossing on the Egypt-Gaza border instead.
The Ashton delegation, which includes the European External Action Service's new Middle East chief, French EU official Hugues Mingarelli, is meeting with Palestinian leaders in the West Bank on Thursday. The trip was almost jeopardised by a pay-related strike in the Israeli foreign ministry, which has seen Russian President Dmitry Medvedev cancel an upcoming trip to Israel due to lack of protocol facilities.
Meanwhile, publication on Wednesday of leaked US diplomatic cables by Norway's Aftenposten newspaper has shed fresh light on Israel's Gaza policy.A cable dating back to October 2008 noted: As part of their overall embargo plan against Gaza, Israeli officials have confirmed to [US officials] on multiple occasions that they intend to keep the Gazan economy on the brink of collapse without quite pushing it over the edge.Another cable from 2007 said: The objective [is] to damage the Hamas government in Gaza financially without creating a humanitarian crisis, and to buy time for [rival Palestinian movement] Fatah to rebuild support. It added: The current closure of Gaza border crossings is not sustainable, with several thousand Palestinians currently waiting to enter Gaza through the Rafah crossing.Israeli analysts say the EU has in the past exaggerated the level of hardship endured by the 1.4 million Palestinians living in Gaza. There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza - people are not dying of hunger. The tunnel economy means that the markets there are full of goods, Avi Melamed, an Israeli counter-terrorism expert, told EUobserver on a visit to the region in November.Mr Melamed estimated that there are around 1,300 active and inactive underground tunnels in Gaza. Around 200 are specialised in smuggling arms from Egypt. Another 200 or so are used primarily for smuggling gasoline, while many others are used as Hamas military bunkers underneath civilian facilities in Gaza itself in what amounts to a huge spider's web below the strip.

Iranian Threats of Revenge for Mordechai's Purim Massacre'
by Gil Ronen JAN 9,11
Iranian authorities have downgraded the status of the site known as the Tomb of Esther and Mordechai the Jews. They have removed an official sign at the mausoleum, in the city of Hamadan in central Iran, that declared it an official pilgrimage site. The state-run Iranian news agency Fars hinted that the fate of the site could be much worse. It said Iran has chosen to ignore, for the time being, the responsibility of Esther and Mordechai for the massacre of 75 thousand Iranians, which the Jews celebrate at Purim.Fars noted that Jews from the world over visit the site, including Israelis who possess additional, non-Israeli passports.According to the official Iranian news agency MEHR, a group of about 250 student-members of the Basij militia gathered in front of the tomb in December and threatened to tear it down The Basij members sent to threaten the landmark were students from Abu Ali Sina University. They said they were responding to alleged Israeli plans to damage the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem
Muslims, be aware that [the Israelis] have started the destruction of Al-Aqsa mosque while their second sacred site in Iran, the Esther and Mordecai tomb, is at peace and no Muslims make a sound, the protesters stated. We, the student basijis... warn Zionist regime leaders if they assault the Al-Aqsa mosque in any way we will destroy the tomb of these lowly murderers, they said.Mordechai and Esther, they accused, massacred 77 thousand Iranians in a single day. Some of them wore burial shrouds as a declaration of their willingness to die for their cause.According to a report on FightHatred.com, Iranian authorities have also taken to revising the history of Esther and Mordechai, teaching schoolchildren that the two carried out a massacre of tens of thousands of non-Jews, and that the annual Jewish festival of Purim is celebrated by Jews to commemorate this Iranian Holocaust. Flights canceled, roads icy as storm hits South By DORIE TURNER and HOLBROOK MOHR, Associated Press - JAN 9,11
ATLANTA – A blast of winter weather rolled across the South on Sunday, coating bridges and roads with snow, sleet and freezing rain and causing thousands of flight cancelations. The governors of Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Tennesseee declared emergencies for their states. By late Sunday, snow and ice had covered the ground in Atlanta and Birmingham, Ala., with 2 to 3 inches reported west and northwest of Atlanta. We don't have weather events like this," Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said in an on-air interview with CNN. I think the amount of snow we're getting is probably a 10-year event for the city of Atlanta.Georgia was expecting up to 6 inches of snow in the northern mountains from the powerful storm that also dumped snow and ice in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. Forecasters said the front could also bring sleet and freezing rain lasting into Tuesday in Georgia.
Alabama Gov. Bob Riley said workers had readied snow and salt trucks to help clear icy roads, and he asked all residents to stay home Sunday night and Monday unless it is imperative that they have to travel.Mississippi officials warned motorists that ice was accumulating on roads and bridges in many counties, creating hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service posted winter storm warnings from east Texas to the Carolinas. The snow in downtown Atlanta was coming down heavily, coating sidewalks and streets. Cars were having trouble on the slippery streets and highways all over the South, with numerous slideoffs, though there are no immediate reports of serious accidents. At times, the snow was mixing with sleet around Atlanta, said National Weather Service meteorologist Robert Beasley.By Sunday night, snow was falling from Memphis, Tenn., to Birmingham, Ala., to Atlanta.Forecasters expected the most extreme conditions in Mississippi and northern Louisiana overnight with the possibility of heavy ice accumulation in places, including in the Atlanta metro area where snow was coating the ground. And since it's going to be pretty cold over the next few days, we could see whatever accumulates sticking around for a few days, said NWS meterologist Daniel Lamb ,Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas were expecting icy weather overnight. Around Birmingham, besides a few inches a snow, about a tenth of an inch of ice was also coating the roadways, the NWS said.
The storm forced Georgia officials to move Monday's inauguration of newly elected Gov. Nathan Deal from the state Capitol steps inside to the shelter of the House chamber. The inaugural gala was scrapped to keep supporters off treacherous roads.
Thousands of flights have been canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.Delta Air Lines canceled 330 flights starting about 8 p.m. Sunday and another 1,400 flights Monday. AirTran Airways canceled 14 flights for Sunday and another 270 for Monday, spokesman Christopher White said. Reed said officials did not want people to be stranded at the airport or on planes.Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport spokesman David Magana said 200 flights, or about a quarter of the schedule, were canceled in anticipation of the weather. In eastern Tennessee, the Weather Service said 4 to 6 inches of snow could fall by Sunday evening, with the heaviest hitting early Monday.Churches across the South canceled Sunday night services. The worship leader at one prepared to use a web camera to broadcast an abbreviated worship service over the Internet from his home since members couldn't make it to church.I'll just do one or two acoustic songs, something like that, just to keep it going until next week, said Ben Nelson of Helena United Methodist Church, located in suburban Birmingham.Numerous schools and colleges called off classes for Monday in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.Auburn University students must go somewhere other than campus to watch the Tigers play in the national championship bowl game Monday. The university has canceled all viewing parties and other events planned as the state prepares for severe winter weather.Associated Press writers Carol Druga in Atlanta, Jay Reeves in Birmingham, Ala., and Schuyler Dixon in Dallas contributed to this story.
Flash floods hit Australia's third biggest city
By Michael Perry - JAN 9,11
SYDNEY (Reuters) – Residents of low-lying parts of Australia's third largest city, Brisbane, sandbagged their homes against rising waters on Monday as torrential rain exacerbated record floods that have paralyzed the coal industry in the northeast and now threaten tourism.Prime Minister Julia Gillard insisted the cost of the floods would not delay a return to budget surplus in 2012-13, but J.P. Morgan predicted the disaster would crimp growth this year and could delay another increase in interest rates.Weather officials issued a severe weather alert, warning of flash flooding and worsening river floods in Queensland state's heavily populated southeast and the center of the country's lucrative Gold Coast tourist strip.People need to think about how to get out and if you don't need to travel, stay off the roads, said Police Chief Superintendent Alistair Dawson. The worst floods in 50 years, affecting an area the size of France and Germany combined, began last month and have severely cut Queensland's $20 billion coking coal export industry, starving Asian steel mills of coal and pushing up world prices. The floods have caused an estimated A$6 billion ($6 billion)in damage and economists say they will cut Australia's economic growth in 2011 and heighten inflation as food prices rise and reconstruction gets under way in the nation's second largest state.
With more rain falling it could be months before the floodwaters clear and the extent of the damage to essential infrastructure is known, said J.P. Morgan's chief economist Stephen Walters.J.P.Morgan on Monday cut its GDP growth forecast for 2011 to 3.3 percent from 3.7 percent, raised its inflation forecast to 3.8 percent from 3.2 percent, and pushed out the likely timing for the next interest rate hike to May from February.Even inflation-conscious RBA (Reserve Bank of Australia) officials won't hike with Queensland under water, said Walters.Gillard announced more flood aid on Monday, but added the floods would not derail an expected return to a budget surplus in 2012-13.From the start of November we have seen extreme weather events in many parts of the country. The flood crisis is still emerging, so we don't know how many communities will be impacted by these floods, Gillard told a news conference in Canberra. But Gillard added: The Budget will return to surplus in 2012-13. That will require us to make some hard choices, and we will make those hard choices.
FLOODS TO HIT TOURISM
More than 200,000 people and more than 10,700 properties have been affected in the Christmas-New Year floods, which have killed four people. The weather bureau forecast monsoon rains would continue for the rest of the week, giving flooded towns little respite. The fresh heavy rains were causing flash flooding, quickly cutting off some small towns and flooding homes and businesses. The State Emergency Service advises that people in the affected area should avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters, take care on the roads, especially in heavy downpours and avoid swimming in swollen rivers and creeks, said the Bureau of Meteorology's severe weather warning.A major concern now is the ground is so waterlogged the heavy rains are unable to be absorbed and full rivers, creeks and man-made watercourses are bursting their banks.About 116,000 megalitres of water a day was being released from Brisbane's Wivenhoe Dam, which may cause road closures, said local authorities. The heavy rains had also forced authorities to release water from other near-full dams around Brisbane and the Gold Coast, further exacerbating the floods.Queensland Tourism said the heavy rains and flooding would have a negative impact on the state's tourism industry but that it was too early to quantify the impact, adding areas around the Great Barrier Reef in the far north were untouched by floods.
The majority of the state's tourist operators remained open, it said, noting that while some roads and rail links were restricted, only one of the state's 20 airports was closed. There is a little cancellation coming through due to the perception things are not open and a little drop in day traffic from Brisbane, said Queensland Tourism's Leanne Coddington.
FLOODS PARALYZE COAL INDUSTRY
Floods have paralyzed operations that produce 35 percent of Australia's estimated 259 million metric tons of exportable coal. Australia contributes two-thirds of global coking-coal exports, needed to make steel.Global miners Anglo American, Rio Tinto, Xstrata and BHP Billiton, have all been hit by the floods, and all have made force majeure declarations, which release firms from delivery commitments.Flooding has begun to recede in the main Bowen Basin coal region, but many mines remain flooded and will take weeks to drain and resume full production. While some rail links between mines and the ports have resumed, others remain under water.Coal stocks were running low at the key coal port of Dalrymple Bay, but it was receiving enough to keep loading ships, while the port of Gladstone said it may be days to weeks before it starts getting coal supplies back to normal. All the systems apart from the Blackwater (rail line) are operating so we are just waiting for that floodwater to recede, said a QR National railway spokesman. When the flood waters come down we will have a good opportunity to have a look at what's underneath and see what the recovery will be.Roughly 8 percent of the world's thermal coal production -- used in power generation -- has been temporarily eliminated by the flooding, according to Australia & New Zealand Bank analyst Mark Pervan.Analysts expect steel coals to rise as much as a third to $300 a tonne in the aftermath of the floods, sweeping thermal coal prices higher in the process.Asian steel-makers are anxious over Australian supplies, worried the disruptions could outlast their stockpiles, which typically hold around a month's worth of consumption. In 2008, flooding stalled some mines for as long as six months, but others began producing within six weeks.(Additional reporting by Rob Taylor in Canberra; Editing by Alex Richardson and Dean Yates)
Flooding in Germany inundates roads, villages
– Sun Jan 9, 12:05 pm ET
BERLIN – Rivers in western Germany are overflowing their banks due to pouring rain and melting snow, flooding many roads and parts of several villages.Authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate, the worst-hit state, said Sunday the wine towns of Cochem and Zell along the Mosel River were partly inundated and dozens of basements had filled up with water.German news agency DAPD reported that the Rhine River had also dangerously swollen and many roads in the Rhine Valley were closed. Part of the city of Konstanz was inundated and commercial shipping was banned on the Rhine up to the city of Cologne.DAPD, however, quoted meteorologists in Trier as saying the swelling of the Mosel, a tributary of the Rhine, was not unusual and was likely to pass without causing major damage.

Parshah Beshalach - Exodus 13:17-17:16
SINCE WHAT ISRAEL READS WILL BE FULFILLED IN THAT WEEK I WILL BE PUTTING THE WEEKLY TORAH PORTION ON FOR ALL OF US TO KEEP TRACK OF ISRAEL HAPPENINGS.
TORAH PORTION FROM JAN 09 2011 6PM - JAN 15 6PM 2011
EXODUS 13:17 - 17:16
17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him: for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you; and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you.
20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.
21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.
EXODUS 14:1-31
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baalzephon: before it shall ye encamp by the sea.
3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in.
4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that the Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so.
5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?
6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.
8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: and the children of Israel went out with an high hand.
9 But the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baalzephon.
10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.
11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.
29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
EXODUS 15:1-27
1 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name.
4 Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
6 Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.
7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.
8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.
10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
11 Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.
13 Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation.
14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.
15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away.
16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.
17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.
18 The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.
19 For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea.
20 And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
21 And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?
25 And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,
26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.
27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
EXODUS 16:1-36
1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?
8 And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
9 And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
16 This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
32 And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.
33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.
34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
35 And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.
36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
EXODUS 17:1-16
1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?
3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
4 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.
5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.
6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?
8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
13 And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
PROPHETS PORTION
JUDGES 4:4-5:31
4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.
5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.
6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand.
8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go.
9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him.
11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh.
12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor.
13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon.
14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
15 And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet.
16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left.
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.
18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle.
19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and enquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No.
21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.
23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan.
1 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
2 Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.
3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.
4 LORD, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
5 The mountains melted from before the LORD, even that Sinai from before the LORD God of Israel.
6 In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.
7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.
8 They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
9 My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the LORD.
10 Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way.
11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gates.
12 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
13 Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the LORD made me have dominion over the mighty.
14 Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.
16 Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
17 Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.
18 Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field.
19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.
20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
21 The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.
22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones.
23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.
24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
25 He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
26 She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.
27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.
28 The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots?
29 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself,
30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?
31 So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.

LUKE 2:22-24
22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
JOHN 6:25-35
25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.
27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
JOHN 19:31-37
31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
1 CORINTHIANS 10:1-13
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-15
1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
4 Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
7 Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.
8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.
9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.
11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.
12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:
14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:
15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
REVELATION 15:1-4
1 And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.
2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.
3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.
4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

NEW TESTAMENT PORTION
LUKE 2:22-24
22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
3 For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

AZ shooting targets US congresswoman, kills 6 By PAULINE ARRILLAGA, Associated Press - JAN 9,11 8AM
TUCSON, Ariz. – The shady individual showed up at a public gathering for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords asking to see the lawmaker, according to event volunteer Alex Villec. Told he would have to wait his turn, the man left but returned minutes later and gunfire erupted. The man, wearing a black cap and baggy pants and shirt, rushed by a table separating him and Giffords, raised an arm, and then came shots, Villec, 19, told The Associated Press.Firing a semiautomatic weapon, the gunman targeted Giffords as she met with constituents around 10 a.m. Saturday outside a busy Tucson supermarket. Authorities said Arizona's chief federal judge and five others were killed and 13 people were wounded, including the Democrat lawmaker. He also fired at her district director and shot indiscriminately at staffers and others standing in line to talk to the congresswoman, said Mark Kimble, a communications staffer for Giffords. He was not more than three or four feet from the congresswoman and the district director, Kimble said, describing the scene as just complete chaos, people screaming, crying.
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik said the rampage ended only after two people tackled the gunman. He was definitely on a mission, said Villec, a former Giffords intern.Police say the shooter was in custody, and was identified by people familiar with the investigation as Jared Loughner, 22. U.S. officials who provided his name to the AP spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release it publicly. His motivation was not immediately known, but Dupnik described him as mentally unstable and possibly acting with an accomplice. His office said a man possibly associated with the suspect who was near the scene was being sought. The man, who was photographed by a security camera, was described as white with dark hair and 40-45 years old.The assassination attempt left the three-term congresswoman in critical condition after a bullet passed through her head.It also left Americans questioning whether divisive politics had pushed the suspect over the edge.A shaken President Barack Obama called the attack a tragedy for our entire country.Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement Sunday that FBI Director Robert Mueller was traveling to Arizona to help coordinate the investigation.Giffords, 40, is a moderate Democrat who narrowly won re-election in November against a tea party candidate who sought to throw her from office over her support of the health care law. Anger over her position became violent at times, with her Tucson office vandalized after the House passed the overhaul last March and someone showing up at a recent gathering with a weapon.
Authorities said the dead included U.S. District Judge John Roll, 63; Christina Greene, 9; Giffords aide Gabe Zimmerman, 30; Dorothy Morris, 76; Dorwin Stoddard, 76; and Phyllis Scheck, 79. Judge Roll had just stopped by to see his friend Giffords after attending Mass. The sheriff blamed the vitriolic political rhetoric that has consumed the country, much of it occurring in Arizona.Giffords expressed similar concern, even before the shooting. In an interview after her office was vandalized, she referred to the animosity against her by conservatives, including Sarah Palin's decision to list Giffords' seat as one of the top targets in the midterm elections.
For example, we're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, that the way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they have to realize that there are consequences to that action, Giffords said in an interview with MSNBC.In the hours after the shooting, Palin issued a statement in which she expressed her sincere condolences to the family of Giffords and the other victims. During his campaign effort to unseat Giffords in November, Republican challenger Jesse Kelly held fundraisers where he urged supporters to help remove Giffords from office by joining him to shoot a fully loaded M-16 rifle. Kelly is a former Marine who served in Iraq and was pictured on his website in military gear holding his automatic weapon and promoting the event.
I don't see the connection, between the fundraisers featuring weapons and Saturday's shooting, said John Ellinwood, Kelly's spokesman. I don't know this person, we cannot find any records that he was associated with the campaign in any way. I just don't see the connection. Arizona is a state where people are firearms owners — this was just a deranged individual.Law enforcement officials said members of Congress reported 42 cases of threats or violence in the first three months of 2010, nearly three times the 15 cases reported during the same period a year earlier. Nearly all dealt with the health care bill, and Giffords was among the targets. The shooting cast a pall over the Capitol as politicians of all stripes denounced the attack as a horrific. Capitol police asked members of Congress to be more vigilant about security in the wake of the shooting. Obama dispatched his FBI chief to Arizona. Doctors were optimistic about Giffords surviving as she was responding to commands from doctors. With guarded optimism, I hope she will survive, but this is a very devastating wound, said Dr. Richard Carmona, the former surgeon general who lives in Tucson.
At 6 a.m. Sunday, University Medical Center spokeswoman Darcy Slaten said the congresswoman was in critical condition and sedated after undergoing two hours of surgery. She said nine other wounded were being treated at the hospital, four of them critical and five of them serious. Slaten said the three others were treated at other hospitals and released. Giffords spokesman C.J. Karamargin said besides the aide Zimmerman, who was killed, two other Giffords staffers were shot but expected to survive. Zimmerman was a former social worker who served as Giffords' director of community outreach.Greg Segalini, an uncle of Christina, the 9-year-old victim, told the Arizona Republic that a neighbor was going to the event and invited her along because she had just been elected to the student council and was interested in government.Christina, who was born on Sept. 11, 2001, was involved in many activities, from ballet to baseball. She had just received her first Holy Communion at St. Odilia's Catholic Church in Tucson, Catholic Diocese of Tucson officials told The Arizona Daily Star.In the evening, more than 100 people attended a candlelight vigil outside Giffords' headquarters, where authorities investigated a suspicious package that turned out to be non-explosive.The suspect Loughner was described by a former classmate as a pot-smoking loner, and the Army said he tried to enlist in December 2008 but was rejected for reasons not disclosed.Federal law enforcement officials were poring over versions of a MySpace page that included a mysterious Goodbye friends message published hours before the shooting and exhorted his friends to Please don't be mad at me.
In one of several YouTube videos, which featured text against a dark background, Loughner described inventing a new U.S. currency and complained about the illiteracy rate among people living in Giffords' congressional district in Arizona. I know who's listening: Government Officials, and the People, Loughner wrote.Nearly all the people, who don't know this accurate information of a new currency, aren't aware of mind control and brainwash methods. If I have my civil rights, then this message wouldn't have happen (sic). In Loughner's middle-class neighborhood — about a five-minute drive from the scene — sheriff's deputies had much of the street blocked off. The neighborhood sits just off a bustling Tucson street and is lined with desert landscaping and palm trees.Neighbors said Loughner lived with his parents and kept to himself. He was often seen walking his dog, almost always wearing a hooded sweat shirt and listening to his iPod.Loughner's MySpace profile indicates he attended and graduated from school in Tucson and had taken college classes. He did not say if he was employed.High school classmate Grant Wiens, 22, said Loughner seemed to be floating through life and doing his own thing.Sometimes religion was brought up or drugs. He smoked pot, I don't know how regularly. And he wasn't too keen on religion, from what I could tell, Wiens said.
Lynda Sorenson said she took a math class with Loughner last summer at Pima Community College's Northwest campus and told the Arizona Daily Star he was obviously very disturbed. He disrupted class frequently with nonsensical outbursts, she said.In October 2007, Loughner was cited in Pima County for possession of drug paraphernalia, which was dismissed after he completed a diversion program, according to online records.Giffords was first elected to Congress amid a wave of Democratic victories in the 2006 election, and has been mentioned as a possible Senate candidate in 2012 and a gubernatorial prospect in 2014.She is married to astronaut Mark E. Kelly, who has piloted space shuttles Endeavour and Discovery. The two met in China in 2003 while they were serving on a committee there, and were married in January 2007. Sen. Bill Nelson, chairman of the Senate Commerce Space and Science Subcommittee, said Kelly is training to be the next commander of the space shuttle mission slated for April. His brother is currently serving aboard the International Space Station, Nelson said.Giffords is known in her southern Arizona district for her numerous public outreach meetings, which she acknowledged in an October interview with The Associated Press can sometimes be challenging. You know, the crazies on all sides, the people who come out, the planet earth people, she said following an appearance with Adm. Mike Mullen in which the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was peppered with bizarre questions from an audience member.I'm glad this just doesn't happen to me.Associated Press Writers Amanda Lee Myers and Terry Tang in Tucson, Jacques Billeaud, Bob Christie and Paul Davenport in Phoenix, and David Espo, Matt Apuzzo, Eileen Sullivan, Adam Goldman and Charles Babington in Washington contributed to this report.

Reports: Congresswoman, 6 Others Killed In Tucson Shooting
By David Espo | Associated Press Published: January 08, 2011
ARIZONA -- Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was shot in the head and an unknown number of others were wounded Saturday when an assailant sprayed bullets into an area where the lawmaker was meeting with constituents, congressional officials said.
These officials said one of the victims died soon after the attack, and others were taken to a nearby hospital. The officials said the wounded included some of Gifford's aides who were with her at the time. The officials who described the events did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not permitted to comment publicly. They said the FBI and local law enforcement were investigating the attack, which took place while Giffords was greeting constituents outside a grocery store.Giffords, 40, was re-elected to her third term last November. She was a member of the Arizona House and Senate before coming to Washington. She first won election to Congress amid a wave of Democratic victories in 2006. In November, she edged a tea party favorite.
Arizona shooting leaves US stunned - America has a long history of assaults on its politicians but this comes in a climate of deep division and growing extremism
Paul Harris guardian.co.uk, Saturday 8 January 2011 23.05 GMT 7:40PM EST
The shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and some of her top aides has left America shocked. Not only for the violence against an elected leader but also for the fact that it happened in broad daylight.Politicians from all sides expressed outrage and sadness.I am horrified by the senseless attack ... an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve, said Republican House speaker John Boehner. This is a sad day for our country. The recent heated political atmosphere in America has led many to fear for the safety of elected officials. And the attack on Giffords is not without precedent. America has a long history of attacks on its leaders, whether from deranged loners, politically motivated assailants or even cults. They have spanned the full gamut from rightwingers to leftist revolutionaries. The last congressman to be murdered was Leo Ryan who was killed during the Jonestown cult massacre in Guyana in 1978.Few are expecting the circumstances surrounding the attack on Giffords to be as bizarre as that. But it is certainly no less disturbing set against a background of heated rhetoric. Much debate has painted American politicians in general, and the federal government in particular, as somehow being a force for evil. Indeed many rightwing commentators have portrayed President Barack Obama and senior Democrats as socialists or even Marxists bent on fundamentally changing the American way of life. Some fringe groups and conservative politicians have even hinted at resorting to illegal measures in order to defend the nation from what they see as a dire threat. Giffords's own offices were vandalised after she voted for healthcare reform.
Elsewhere, there has been a rash of attacks on government targets from individuals pursuing extremist aims. Last year in Texas Joseph Stack flew a private aeroplane into a branch of the Internal Revenue Service tax authorities. He left a rambling suicide note that contained numerous anti-government statements. Neo-Nazi James von Brunn shot dead a security guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington in 2009. In the same year a doctor who performed abortion was killed in Kansas City and several incidents occurred in which people with links to white supremacists killed people or were found with explosives caches.Gun-rights advocates across America have made a point of turning up to some political events carrying weapons, including powerful rifles, in order to demonstrate their right to bear arms. That is a fact that might become relevant given that the shooting of Gifford occurred in public at an open meet and greet political event. The rise of political extremism in recent years has been tracked by the Southern Poverty Law Centre which issued a report in 2009 that warned of rising numbers of potentially violent right-wing militia groups. The numbers of hate groups grew from 602 in 2000 to 926 in 2009, the organisation has found.Attacks on American politicians can happen at any time, anywhere and seemingly for any reason. In 1981 Republican President Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley in Washington DC. Hinckley later claimed he was acting out of a desire to impress the actress Jodie Foster. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity and has been in psychiatric care ever since.
The deaths that plagued the Kennedy family also came about via a variety of causes. The 1963 murder of President John F Kennedy has long been the subject of endless and fruitless conspiracy theories. Officially the assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, acted alone on a deranged one-man mission. But many people believe in a greater plot. Kennedy's brother Robert was killed while campaigning in 1968 by Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan, who made an antisemitic diatribe during his trial. Many other presidents and top elected leaders have also had attempts on their lives. Gerald Ford, who was only president for three years, faced two. The first was a shooting attempt by a one-time follower of murderous cult leader Charles Manson. The second, just three weeks later, was a leftist revolutionary who had become fascinated by the Patti Hearst kidnapping. The suspect identified by media as having been arrested in the Giffords shooting is Jared Lee Loughner, aged 22. A YouTube channel purportedly linked to him has been turned up in which he had apparently posted several videos.Much of the content was deeply confused and incoherent, claiming the government was attempting to control people's minds by controlling grammar.
