GENESIS 16:11-12
11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.

ISAIAH 33:1,18-19 Woe to thee that spoilest,(destroys) and thou wast not spoiled;(destroyed) and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil,(destroy) thou shalt be spoiled;(destroyed) and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.
JOHN 16:2
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
Mosque Near Ground Zero Like a Pig in the Temple(ABOMINATION)
by Eli Stutz AUG 4,10
The plan to build a mosque adjacent to the ruins of the Twin Towers passed a crucial hurdle Tuesday when New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission voted 9-0 not to declare the building now occupying the site protected, making way for it to be demolished and a mosque and Islamic center to be built in its place. No one was more shocked by the news than retired Brigadier General Dov Shefi, a former chief military prosecutor and now attorney general of the Defense Ministry who lost his son in the 9/11 attack on the Twin Towers. For us it's like bringing a pig into the temple,Shefi told Arutz-7. According to Shefi, people cannot accept the fact that a mosque will be built on the site of the disaster.I think that the establishment of a mosque in this place, a place that serves as a memorial site for 40,000 families, is like bringing a pig (an unkosher animal) into the Holy Temple. It is inconceivable that in all the city of New York, this site was specifically chosen to establish an institution that represents the culture that led the terrorists of Al-Qaeda to carry out the greatest crime ever.America sometimes loses its mind. America raised the banner of the freedom and liberty, allowing everyone to express an opinion, but this belief often makes them lose sight of reality.Shefi has already turned to U.S. government officials, calling on them to cancel this initiative. I'm connected to all the support groups of the U.S. families and victim organizations, and I'm not ashamed to write them. I sent a letter to the mayor of New York. I know it will be hard for them to accede to my request but they must understand us.
Shefi told Arutz-7 of his son Haggai, and the terrible news on the day of the disaster. He related that Hagai was a genius of geniuses and that and at the age of 29 he was already president of a high-tech company. The Shefi family flew immediately to the U.S. after the disaster, and Haggai's body was found and brought to burial in Israel. Shefi said that Haggai phoned his wife after the plane hit the north tower to say goodbye to her.(IsraelNationalNews.com)
Is the Cordoba House Good for America?-The former Burlington Coat Factory building that will make way for the Ground Zero Mosque Max Fisher – Tue Aug 3, 12:19 pm ET
WASHINGTON, DC – Now that the New York City landmarks commission has approved the Cordoba House, an Islamic community center that has drawn attacks for its planned location two blocks from the former World Trade Center site, the so-called Ground Zero Mosque is one step closer to reality. Whether it ends up happening as planned or is scuttled as demanded by such conservatives as Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich, observers are weighing in on what the center would mean for America. What would it do, or not do, for the country and its millions of Muslim-Americans?
The Case Against the Cordoba House
Senator Lieberman: Pause The Project Connecticut Independent Senator Joe Lieberman said on Fox radio show Imus in the Morning,I'd say I'm troubled by it, but I don't know enough to say that it ought to be prohibited. ... But frankly I've heard enough about it and read enough about it that I wish somebody in New York would just put the brakes on for a while and take a look at this. ... If the people building this large Islamic center are just looking to build a large facility — a house of worship and center — in New York, why so close to 9/11, with all the sensitivity associated with that? ... I've also read some things about some of the people involved that make me wonder about their motivations.
Undermines Interfaith Understanding Bush-era U.S. official in Iraq Dan Senor worries in the Wall Street Journal that the center could strengthen the link between Islam and the brand of radicalism and violence espoused by al Qaeda and like-minded groups. He writes, the Cordoba House will not be seen as a center for peace and reconciliation. It will rather be celebrated as a Muslim monument erected on the site of a great Muslim military victory—a milestone on the path to the further spread of Islam throughout the world.
Loathsome Extremism and Mysterious Funding of Center The Directors of the conservative blog RedState declare, The fact is that the groups behind the Ground Zero mosque/ Cordoba House / Park51 chose the site explicitly for its proximity to Ground Zero, and then spent months boasting about it in the press. ... The arrogant and insensitive Ground Zero branding of Rauf, Khan and el-Gamal is why [we oppose this].They accuse the center's founders of loathsome extremism and of deliberate opacity behind the Ground Zero mosque’s' funding.
The Case for the Cordoba House
Center Hurts al-Qaeda, Makes Us Safer The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg gets real. The Cordoba Initiative, which is headed by an imam named Feisal Abdul Rauf, is an enemy of al Qaeda. ... Bin Laden would sooner dispatch a truck bomb to destroy the Cordoba Initiative's proposed community center than he would attack the ADL, for the simple reason that Osama's most dire enemies are Muslims,he writes. [Rauf] represents what Bin Laden fears most: a Muslim who believes that it is possible to remain true to the values of Islam and, at the same time, to be a loyal citizen of a Western, non-Muslim country. Bin Laden wants a clash of civilizations; the opponents of the mosque project are giving him what he wants.Alienating Friendly Muslims a Terrible Policy The Washington Monthly's Steve Benen writes, For folks like Gingrich, Cheney, Giuliani, et al, Feisal Abdul Rauf is exactly the kind of American ally who should be embraced. Instead, the right is going to genuinely ridiculous lengths to isolate, offend, and ostracize him, signaling their belief that all Muslim Americans should be treated as second-class citizens. If Osama bin Laden were to write a script for what he'd like to see happen here, it'd be identical to the one Gingrich & Co. are following. This isn't intended to question their patriotism, but rather, their sanity.
NYC Mayor Bloomberg: This Is America New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg today delivered a speech defending the center. Highlights are below:Our doors are open to everyone. Everyone with a dream and a willingness to work hard and play by the rules. New York City was built by immigrants, and it's sustained by immigrants -- by people from more than 100 different countries speaking more than 200 different languages and professing every faith. And whether your parents were born here or you came here yesterday, you are a New Yorker.... Whatever you may think of the proposed mosque and community center, lost in the heat of the debate has been a basic question: Should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion? That may happen in other countries, but we should never allow it to happen here. This nation was founded on the principle that the government must never choose between religions or favor one over another. The World Trade Center site will forever hold a special place in our city, in our hearts. But we would be untrue to the best part of ourselves and who we are as New Yorkers and Americans if we said no to a mosque in lower Manhattan.
Let us not forget that Muslims were among those murdered on 9/11, and that our Muslim neighbors grieved with us as New Yorkers and as Americans. We would betray our values and play into our enemies' hands if we were to treat Muslims differently than anyone else. In fact, to cave to popular sentiment would be to hand a victory to the terrorists, and we should not stand for that.... Political controversies come and go, but our values and our traditions endure, and there is no neighborhood in this city that is off-limits to God's love and mercy, as the religious leaders here with us can attest.
Defending Religious Tolerance: Remarks on the Mosque Near Ground Zero
Michael R. Bloomberg – Tue Aug 3, 5:45 pm ET
Read Michael R. Bloomberg's other articles on HuffingtonPost.com The following are New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg's remarks as delivered on Governors Island.
We have come here to Governors Island to stand where the earliest settlers first set foot in New Amsterdam, and where the seeds of religious tolerance were first planted. We've come here to see the inspiring symbol of liberty that, more than 250 years later, would greet millions of immigrants in the harbor, and we come here to state as strongly as ever - this is the freest City in the world. That's what makes New York special and different and strong. Our doors are open to everyone - everyone with a dream and a willingness to work hard and play by the rules. New York City was built by immigrants, and it is sustained by immigrants - by people from more than a hundred different countries speaking more than two hundred different languages and professing every faith. And whether your parents were born here, or you came yesterday, you are a New Yorker. We may not always agree with every one of our neighbors. That's life and it's part of living in such a diverse and dense city. But we also recognize that part of being a New Yorker is living with your neighbors in mutual respect and tolerance. It was exactly that spirit of openness and acceptance that was attacked on 9/11. On that day, 3,000 people were killed because some murderous fanatics didn't want us to enjoy the freedom to profess our own faiths, to speak our own minds, to follow our own dreams and to live our own lives.
Of all our precious freedoms, the most important may be the freedom to worship as we wish. And it is a freedom that, even here in a City that is rooted in Dutch tolerance, was hard-won over many years. In the mid-1650s, the small Jewish community living in Lower Manhattan petitioned Dutch Governor Peter Stuyvesant for the right to build a synagogue - and they were turned down.In 1657, when Stuyvesant also prohibited Quakers from holding meetings, a group of non-Quakers in Queens signed the Flushing Remonstrance, a petition in defense of the right of Quakers and others to freely practice their religion. It was perhaps the first formal, political petition for religious freedom in the American colonies - and the organizer was thrown in jail and then banished from New Amsterdam. In the 1700s, even as religious freedom took hold in America, Catholics in New York were effectively prohibited from practicing their religion - and priests could be arrested. Largely as a result, the first Catholic parish in New York City was not established until the 1780's - St. Peter's on Barclay Street, which still stands just one block north of the World Trade Center site and one block south of the proposed mosque and community center.
This morning, the City's Landmark Preservation Commission unanimously voted not to extend landmark status to the building on Park Place where the mosque and community center are planned. The decision was based solely on the fact that there was little architectural significance to the building. But with or without landmark designation, there is nothing in the law that would prevent the owners from opening a mosque within the existing building. The simple fact is this building is private property, and the owners have a right to use the building as a house of worship. The government has no right whatsoever to deny that right - and if it were tried, the courts would almost certainly strike it down as a violation of the U.S. Constitution. Whatever you may think of the proposed mosque and community center, lost in the heat of the debate has been a basic question - should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion? That may happen in other countries, but we should never allow it to happen here. This nation was founded on the principle that the government must never choose between religions, or favor one over another. The World Trade Center Site will forever hold a special place in our City, in our hearts. But we would be untrue to the best part of ourselves - and who we are as New Yorkers and Americans - if we said no to a mosque in Lower Manhattan.
Let us not forget that Muslims were among those murdered on 9/11 and that our Muslim neighbors grieved with us as New Yorkers and as Americans. We would betray our values - and play into our enemies' hands - if we were to treat Muslims differently than anyone else. In fact, to cave to popular sentiment would be to hand a victory to the terrorists - and we should not stand for that. For that reason, I believe that this is an important test of the separation of church and state as we may see in our lifetime - as important a test - and it is critically important that we get it right.
On September 11, 2001, thousands of first responders heroically rushed to the scene and saved tens of thousands of lives. More than 400 of those first responders did not make it out alive. In rushing into those burning buildings, not one of them asked What God do you pray to? What beliefs do you hold? The attack was an act of war - and our first responders defended not only our City but also our country and our Constitution. We do not honor their lives by denying the very Constitutional rights they died protecting. We honor their lives by defending those rights - and the freedoms that the terrorists attacked.Of course, it is fair to ask the organizers of the mosque to show some special sensitivity to the situation - and in fact, their plan envisions reaching beyond their walls and building an interfaith community. By doing so, it is my hope that the mosque will help to bring our City even closer together and help repudiate the false and repugnant idea that the attacks of 9/11 were in any way consistent with Islam. Muslims are as much a part of our City and our country as the people of any faith and they are as welcome to worship in Lower Manhattan as any other group. In fact, they have been worshiping at the site for the better part of a year, as is their right. The local community board in Lower Manhattan voted overwhelming to support the proposal and if it moves forward, I expect the community center and mosque will add to the life and vitality of the neighborhood and the entire City. Political controversies come and go, but our values and our traditions endure - and there is no neighborhood in this City that is off limits to God's love and mercy, as the religious leaders here with us today can attest.
FALSE TEACHERS,PROPHETS,DECIEVERS
MATTHEW 24:4-5,11,24-25
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
1 TIMOTHY 4:1-2
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
MARK 13:22-23
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
2 TIMOTHY 3:13
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
DEUTORONOMY 18:10-12
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
JUDE 10-13
10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.
MATTHEW 10:32-33
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
THIS REPLACING ISRAEL WITH THE CHURCH AND JERUSALEM WITH HEAVEN IS COMPLETE NON-SENSE SCHEEMED UP BY SATAN TO DECIEVE CHURCHES AND THEIR MEMBERS.
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Replacement Theology - Part 1
By James A. Showers The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry
If you watch the news headlines, you may have read these: Episcopal Church Is the Next to Shun Israel,Presbyterian Church to Justify Israel Divestment, and Methodist Church Renews Drive for Divestment From Israel.Divestment involves withdrawing investments from companies doing business with a particular nation in order to put economic pressure on the government. It was a technique used against South Africa to break apartheid. Over the years, some Protestant churches have asked people to stop investing in companies doing business with Israel based on their claim that Israel is a racist nation. But nothing could be further from the truth.Israel is a democracy that freely gives the vote to both Jews and Arabs. Apartheid occurs when a minority race uses its power to take economic advantage of the majority of another race. Such is not the case in Israel. In 2007 a Methodist women’s group wrote a report, sponsored by and paid for by the Methodist church, that referred to the founding of the State of Israel as the original sin, thus equating modern Israel with Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God. The report implied humanity sinned against God in creating the modern nation. It was a shocking statement. The same report claims,The Holocaust, and the impact of the Holocaust on Israel’s society, has caused hysteria and paranoia amongst Israelis. The report not only treated the murder of 6 million people casually, as if it were a minor event, but also claimed Jewish people have blown it out of proportion. If an event in history had put 6 million Methodists to death, these women probably would have a different outlook on the Holocaust.
Then, of course, there is Jimmy Carter. The former U.S. president’s 2006 book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, distorted facts, demonized Israel, and contained hundreds of falsehoods and fictional statements. In light of all these events, perhaps you’ve asked yourself, Why are all of these Christians picking on Israel? What’s behind these attacks? The answer is Replacement Theology, the belief the church has replaced physical Israel (the Jewish people) in the plan of God. Those who hold this view believe the church has become spiritual Israel and the inheritor of all the covenant promises God made to Israel. But they say the Jewish people retain all the curses.
Effects on the Church
In the Old Testament God often said, in effect,Keep My covenant, and I’ll bless you; I’ll do all these good things for you. But if you do not keep My covenant, I will curse you; and these judgments will come upon you.Replacement theologians take the blessings for themselves and leave the curses with Israel. Therefore, whenever they read Israel in Scripture, they replace it with church. The leadership of most mainline Protestant churches and the Roman Catholic Church hold to Replacement Theology.
Here are some implications of this belief:
-The Jewish people as a nation have no place in God’s future plan, and Israel has no future as a nation.
-There is no Tribulation or Millennial Kingdom. In fact, such prophecies become problematic, which is why Replacement theologians want us to see Israel not as a physical nation but as the church.
-The church begins with Abraham in Genesis 12, not at Pentecost in Acts 2. Old Testament Israel (not physical Israel, but only those who put their faith in God) are defined as the church.
-Old Testament Law still applies to the church because, if the church began with Abraham and continues today, then everything in the Old Testament still relates to the church.
(The church, in this discussion, includes all denominations.)
Some churches, for example, have altars up front, in the center. Why? Because the Law requires sacrifice, and sacrifices go on an altar. Consequently, they view communion as the re-sacrifice of Christ, believing the elements mutate into the physical body and blood of Christ through transubstantiation.Under the Law, a man needed an intercessor between himself and God. He could not go to God directly. Hence, some churches have priests rather than pastors.Infant baptism replaces circumcision that, under the Law, placed a child under God’s covenant.
Have you ever heard Christians refer to Sunday as the Sabbath? In Scripture, Sabbath is sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. God defined it that way, telling Israel, Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work (Ex. 20:9–10). So church leaders thought, Because we worship on the first day of the week, we’ll redefine Sabbath to be Sunday. It is commonly referred to as the day of rest. However, Sunday is the first day of the week, not the seventh. To refer to Sunday as the Sabbath Day is contrary to Scripture. There was a reason the church began to meet on the first day: it was the day our Lord arose from the dead. All these church practices came about because of the belief that God replaced Israel with the church and that the Old Testament Law still applies to the church.Replacement theologians make the grievous error of interpreting the Old Testament by reading the New Testament back into it. Doing so is the only way they can make their argument. However, if you take God’s Word progressively, in its literal and historical context, as God revealed it to us, you will not believe in Replacement Theology.Clearly, Replacement theologians believe the State of Israel has no theological reason to exist. They call it a mistake in history and see its creation as the original sin. Dispensationalists know better. And Dispensationalism makes better sense.
Understanding the Differences
Dispensationalism is a system of biblical interpretation that sees God working with mankind in different ways at different times in history. It is based on a consistent, literal interpretation of Scripture. While salvation has always been by grace through faith, dispensationalists believe the Bible teaches the ultimate purpose of history is not the salvation of man but, rather, the glorification of God. Dispensationalists believe God has two distinct programs for history: one for Israel and one for the church.Dispensationalism: God began birthing Israel by calling Abraham and leading him to Canaan, often called the Holy Land. Then He brought the Israelites down to Egypt where they grew into a nation. By the time they fled Egypt, they numbered in the millions.God led the Israelites into the wilderness and gave them the Mosaic Law, which covers the period of Old Testament history in which they were in the Promised Land. Then they were exiled because of disbelief and idolatry. Later God returned them to their land, where they remained for several hundred years before Christ’s First Coming. All this time, the Gentiles were in a period of ignorance. Then came Christ’s First Advent, His death on the cross, and His burial and resurrection. Shortly thereafter the Jewish people were scattered, and the church began (Acts 2). Today we are in the Church Age. But the Bible says the church will be caught up and taken out of this world. We call that the Rapture. And with it, the Church Age will come to an end. Many will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ after the Rapture, but they will not be part of the church. The church (also called the bride of Christ) will be in heaven with its Bridegroom, Jesus.
After the Rapture, the seven-year Tribulation will begin. It has two purposes: (1) to bring Israel to repentance, reconciliation with its Messiah, and restoration as a nation; (2) to judge the Gentile nations for their rebellion against God and their treatment of the Jewish people. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will return to Earth and set up His Millennial Kingdom. He will confine Satan, restore Israel and elevate it above all nations, establish His throne in Jerusalem, and rule the world from there. Believing Gentiles who survive the Tribulation will enter the Millennial (1,000-year) Kingdom. At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be freed and allowed to lead a final rebellion against God and the reigning Messiah, but he will be defeated and destroyed. Then will come the Great White Throne judgment of all unbelievers, followed by the appearance of the new heavens and new earth.
Replacement Theology: It teaches there are not two programs for history but only one and that Israel and the church began with Abraham’s call. Therefore, the Mosaic Law did not end with Christ but still applies to the church today.Replacement theologians say that in Old Testament times, God worked through physical Israel; and in the New Testament He worked through so-called spiritual Israel, meaning the church. The Jews once were God’s Chosen People, but now they are the rejected people of covenant curses. The Gentiles who were ignorant in the Old Testament are now the chosen people. There is no Tribulation or Millennium. They are not needed. In fact, the Millennial Kingdom becomes a real problem for churches that embrace Replacement Theology. They wrestled with it, and out of that struggle came Amillennialism: the belief that the Church Age is the Kingdom of God on Earth and that, at some point, Christ will return to judge sinners and take us to the eternal state — the new heavens and new earth. Amillennialism projects a negative outlook on life because it provides no resolution. The world continues until Christ comes back and judges it before taking believers to the new heavens and earth, and that’s that.Later in church history, Postmillennialism came along. It contends the church is the active agent of change in the world; and as the church’s impact grows, the entire world will eventually believe in Christ, opening the doors for Christ’s return. This seems to be a more positive outlook, but it is not what the Bible teaches.
Replacement Theology has been the black sheep of Christendom because, over the past 2,000 years, it has led to countless acts of anti-Semitism by some in the church — and I cannot overemphasize the word countless. A tremendous amount of anti-Jewish violence has been committed by people who claimed to be doing it for the Lord. Jewish people have lived for centuries with the legacy of Christians persecuting them in the name of Christ. And it is because of Replacement Theology that Christians have justified their actions. In the next article we will travel back through history to see how Replacement Theology became established in the church.

Establishment Media Pushes Brain Eating Vaccines

Scientific dictatorship wants lobotomized, subservient public
The establishment media and the scientific dictatorship are promoting brain-eating vaccines that virtually lobotomize people and rewire their minds into a state of subservient compliance so that their natural instinct to get angry and rebel against the tyranny being imposed upon them is neutered and sterilized.Academics say they are close to developing the first vaccine for stress – a single jab that would help us relax without slowing down, reports the Daily Mail.Dr Robert Sapolsky, professor of neuroscience at Stanford University in California, says the vaccine is intended to impose a state of focused calm by altering brain chemistry. The proposals ominously hark back to George Lucas’ 1971 dystopian chiller TXH 1138, in which the population is controlled and subjugated through the use of special drugs to suppress emotion.
Feeling stress, getting angry, expressing emotion and displaying passion are all innate, natural and vital aspects of human behavior. Reacting with stress to dangerous or uncomfortable situations is an essential and healthy response, and is one shared by just about every living thing on the planet.Scientists are now telling us that getting angry, upset and passionate is abnormal and needs to be treated through a fresh dose of pharmaceutical drugs and injections that will virtually lobotomize us into submissive compliance. This is blatantly a part of the full spectrum assault on our minds, our bodies and our nervous system through the contamination of our food and water supply. The new research on brain-altering vaccines dovetails with proposals to add lithium to the water supply in order to treat mood disorders.People globally are already being bombarded with sodium fluoride, a cancer causing neurotoxin, through the water supply, toothpaste, and many foods. The first occurrence of fluoridated drinking water on Earth was found in Germany’s Nazi prison camps. The Gestapo had little concern about fluoride’s supposed effect on children’s teeth; their alleged reason for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to sterilize humans and force the people in their concentration camps into calm submission.
As a growing number of people worldwide begin to educate themselves about what they are putting in their bodies and how they are under chemical and biological attack from the foods they eat, the establishment in getting increasingly desperate in trying to maintain a sick and weak populace, even telling them that injecting the toxic poison mercury into their bloodstream will be beneficial to their health. The effort to chemically lobotomize the public is part of the elite’s drive to create a sub-species of drugged up, dumbed-down slaves who don’t have the intelligence or the energy to resist the control measures being imposed on them by their population-reduction obsessed masters. While the elite will be free to enjoy.Infowars is promoting a new viral Google search term in order to attract much needed attention to this grave issue.Search for brain eating vaccines and by elevating this term to the top of Google Trends, we can reach millions of new people who would otherwise have never come across this information.

World Health Organization: Fluoridate Water-Supply Population-Specifically
Jurriaan Maessen Infowars.com August 4, 2010
http://www.infowars.com/world-health-organization-fluoridate-water-supply-population-specifically/
A WHO publication of the Expert Consensus Meeting Group Report advises adding fluoride in the water-supply for specific segments of the population. The consensus reached among the experts reads, that higher income groups often already consume enough fluoride for their purposes, which- by the way- has decidedly nothing to do with some dental battle against tooth decay. For example, we can read in the report, in countries such as those in Scandinavia, where public dental awareness is very high and alternative vehicles for fluoride (e.g. fluoridated toothpaste) are widely available and widely used, a decision to not fluoridate the water, or remove fluoride, or to supply drinking water with suboptimal levels of fluoride would likely be of little consequence. The report continues with the statement that for segments of the population which do not have wide access to fluoridated toothpaste, the WHO would me more than willing to dump trace amounts of it into the water-supply, free of charge:On the other hand in developing and developed countries where public dental health awareness in some population groups (e.g. lower income) might be much lower, water containing either natural or added fluoride at concentrations of 0.5 to1.0 mg/l would be important for dental health. This idea perfectly coincides with the ruling guidelines of the WHO Oral Health Programme, which include a particular focus on the disadvantaged and under-served population groups.:
The WHO Oral Health Programme
, jointly with the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), have embarked on an action plan for the promotion of using fluoride, particularly focusing on the disadvantaged and under-served population groups.Furthermore, the WHO’s Guidelines for drinking water quality states:In setting national standards for fluoride or in evaluating the possible health consequences of exposure to fluoride, it is essential to consider the intake of water by the population of interest and the intake of fluoride from other sources (e.g., from food, air and dental preparations).Dr.Richard Shames, graduated Harvard and University of Pennsylvania, after in-depth research into the effects of Fluoride on the human biological system, noted:(…) the Nazi concentration camps used fluoridated water to suppress the will and vigor of inmates. This appears to have been during the 1930s and was the first known example of fluoridated water supplies for a specific population.Fluoride, in whatever amount, is nothing less than a chemical weapon. Considering it is applied to entire populations or certain groups within a population, the definition reads: chemical warfare.

In 2006 Article White House Science Czar Still Talks Population Reduction and a Substantial Carbon Tax - Jurriaan Maessen Infowars.com August 2, 2010
As recently as 2006, White House science czar repeated his call for curbing human population for the sake of the environment and substantial carbon taxes. In the article titled The Energy Innovation imperative: Addressing Oil Dependence, Climate Change, and Other 21st Century Energy Challenges, Holdren admits (among other things) that notions such as notably improving health care, reproductive rights, and educational opportunities for women are, although attractive in their own right, only measures by which reduced population growth can be achieved. In regards to population-issues Holden writes (page 15):Lower is better for many reasons. If world population were 8 billion in 2100 rather than the midrange UN forecast of about 10 billion, holding down the carbon emissions from the energy to make everybody prosperous would be that much easier. Fortunately, reduced population growth can be achieved by measures that are attractive in their own right (notably improving health care, reproductive rights, and educational opportunities for women).Holdren not only makes clear he isn’t satisfied by the UN-target of 10 billion by the year 2100 (he would prefer cutting that number by 2 billion), he readily admits that improving health, reproductive rights and educational opportunities for women are means to that end.
In the same year Holdren published his essay, professor of medical demography of the London school of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, John Cleland, admitted to- and rejected- the fact that the scientific and political communities use coded language when speaking of population control. Speaking in front of representatives of the UN Population fund, the International Planned Parenthood Foundation, European Commission, World Bank and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Cleland stated (page 33):
No more shrouding our statements in code. Because code just confuses people.(…) It does this cause no service at all to continue to shroud family planning in the obfuscating phrase sexual and reproductive health. People don’t really know what it means. If we mean family planning or contraception, we must say it. If we are worried about population growth, we must say it. We must use proper, straightforward language. I am fed up with the political correctness that daren’t say the name population stabilization, hardly dares to mention family planning or contraception out of fear that somebody is going to get offended. It is pathetic! In the mid-seventies, the current White House science czar had no problem using straightforward language, no problem at all, when he argued for a wide range of measures to cut population size to an acceptable level. In the much-debated textbook Ecoscience, Holdren was not hindered by political correctness when he proposed a number of gruesome measures to lower worldwide fertility-levels:Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods is a suggestion that seems to horrify people more than most proposals for involuntary fertility control. Indeed, this would pose some very difficult political, legal, and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems. No such sterilant exists today, nor does one appear to be under development. To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements: it must be uniformly effective, despite widely varying doses received by individuals, and despite varying degrees of fertility and sensitivity among individuals; it must be free of dangerous or unpleasant side effects; and it must have no effect on members of the opposite sex, children, old people, pets, or livestock. In the 2006 article mentioned before, John Holdren also touched upon the possibility of a carbon-tax:Perhaps most importantly in the context of the character of energy challenges as elaborated in this article, companies are likely to continue to under-invest in developing and deploying low- and no-carbon energy options until there is a stronger marketplace incentive for such action, either in the form of a substantial carbon tax or its practical equivalent in the form of economy-wide emissions caps implemented through tradable permits. It’s becoming clear that the aim of reducing the world’s population was still firmly on John P. Holdren’s mind in 2006, just as it was in 1977 when he co-authored Ecoscience. What has changed is the language he chooses to use.

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

Poland accuses Russia of delaying handover of Smolensk air crash data
MATEJ HRUSKA 03.08.2010 @ 09:26 CET
Polish prime miniser Donald Tusk wants an explanation from Moscow as to why it has not yet provided evidence from a plane crash that killed President Lech Kaczynski and 95 other people in April.Mr Tusk said Monday (2 August) that the interior minister and head of an investigation commission, Jerzy Miller, should during his forthcoming visit to Russia tell Moscow that Poland categorically expects documents needed for the ongoing inquiry. The Polish side will be waiting for information and explanations about the reasons hampering the Russian side in forwarding the appropriate documents, Mr Tusk said, according to the Irish Times. Now, when the probe is entering its final phase, our co-operation is worse than at the beginning, he added.A formal request questioning the reasons for the delay will be addressed to the head of the Russian MAK Interstate Aviation Committee.Several weeks ago I submitted a list of documents that are of interest to the Polish commission but which it has not yet received, Mr Miller said Monday. The exact date of Mr Miller's visit to Moscow is not yet known. Meanwhile, Mr Tusk said he would personally meet Russian government leaders or President Medvedev, if necessary. Attorney general Andrzej Seremet said during a press conference last week that Poland was promised a further ten volumes of documents to be provided in August and expressed slight concern about the lack of Russian response in the hand-over deal.Russia's initial cooperation after the crash near Katyn was seen as a possible new beginning in the relations between Warsaw and Moscow and was welcomed by Polish leaders. But local Russian authorities since then have appeared to delay the passing of some documents and evidence from the aircraft crash site, causing annoyance in Warsaw.
In May, Mr Miller, accompanied by the attorney general and chief military prosecutor, went to Moscow to negotiate access to the black boxes storing recordings of pilots' conversation before the crash.A spokesman for the Polish prosecution service said before the visit its main purpose was to get assurances that the investigation materials will be transmitted to Poland as soon as possible.
MUSLIM NATIONS
EZEKIEL 38:1-12
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW)and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY)of the north quarters, and all his bands:(SUDAN,AFRICA) and many people with thee.
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
EZEKIEL 39:1-8
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

Egypt Says Gaza-Based Terrorists Fired on Eilat from Sinai
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu AUG 4,10
Egyptian security sources admitted Wednesday that Monday’s rocket attack on Eilat was launched from within its territory in the Sinai and blamed a Gaza-based terrorist group, without identifying it. Other sources identified Hamas by name.
Cairo previously had claimed that the Katyusha rockets were not fired from within its borders. The official Middle East News Agency reported that the terrorists infiltrated from Gaza into the Sinai through smuggling tunnels.Hamas controls Gaza and has denied any involvement in the launching of the missiles. One of the missiles hit the Jordanian side of the Gulf of Aqaba and killed one person. The Fatah Intifada Movement representative in Lebanon said Monday his group backs rocket attacks on Israel and would be willing participate, a Lebanese television station reported. The Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's largest opposition political party, accused Israel of being behind the rocket attack on Eilat, saying it was undoubtedly a Zionist act [to] shake the safety and stability of Jordan and drag countries in the region to increased security coordination with Israel.Eilat police updated a previous report and said that two of the six rockets exploded within the city’s limits and not in the sea, as was previously stated by Eilat Mayor Yitzchak HaLevi. Authorities have not yet located the impact sites of three other missiles that landed in the area.Israel National News reported Tuesday night that if Hamas terrorists from the Sinai were involved in the attack, it would be strong evidence of its ability to use the Sinai Peninsula to stage attacks on Lebanon.Israel withdrew from the Gaza area in 2005 and surrendered control of the Philadelphi smuggling route along the Egyptian-Gaza border. Smuggling of terrorists, weapons and human traffic—particularly Africans—has increased sharply since then, often with the cooperation of Bedouin tribes.Failure of Egypt to prevent cooperation among Hamas, Bedouin and Egyptian’s Muslim Brotherhood terrorists would increase Hamas’s stature in Gaza and in other parts of the Arab world while trying to draw Israel into a conflict on an additional front.(IsraelNationalNews.com)
Ahmadinejad Escapes Assassination Attempt; Suspect Arrested
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu AUG 4,10
Arab and Iranian sources confirmed Wednesday that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad escaped an assassination attempt in the city of Hamadan and that several people were wounded. The Iranian conservative Khabaronline.ir website said that the attacker was arrested.Iran's semi-official media originally confirmed the report, but the office of Ahmadinejad later denied it, claiming that someone threw a firecracker at his motorcade to celebrate his arrival. The Arabic-language Arabiya website, which is considered responsible and has published several articles against Ahmadinejad, reported that the Iranian presidency confirms that President Ahmadinejad escaped an assassination attempt as his procession was targeted by a bomb.Arabiya said that Ahmadinejad’s procession was targeted by a bomb, but other sources said a grenade was thrown at the convoy and landed approximately 300 feet from Ahmadinejad's car. After the attack, Ahmadinejad continued with his schedule and addressed a crowd as planned.Iran’s semi-official media reported in mid-July that Israel, in collaboration with Iranian terror groups, plotted to kill the Iranian leader. The Zionist regime had met with the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) to execute the plan, according to the Fars News Agency. (IsraelNationalNews.com)

Floods in northern China collapse reservoirs
Wed Aug 4, 5:12 am ET
BEIJING – Heavy rains hindered efforts by workers to repair reservoirs and place sandbags along breached riverbanks Wednesday as the death toll from China's worst flooding in a decade climbed above 1,000.Thousands of workers rushed to repair 51 small reservoirs that suffered damage and to fortify riverbanks along the Songhua River after floods triggered by torrential rains pounded northeastern Jilin province, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. Flooding overwhelmed major roads after some portions of the Songhua reached water levels twice as high as normal. The death toll for China's worst flooding in a decade rose to 1,072 people, with 619 still missing. The floods have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage across 28provinces and regions, Xinhua said.Premier Wen Jiabao visited the flood-hit town of Yongji county in Jilin this week, urging local officials to increase efforts to repair reservoir damage and prevent further flooding.Shu Qingpeng, deputy director of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, said record rains had left thousands of reservoirs in dangerous condition and affected most major rivers.
Although the level of the Three Gorges (dam) continues to fall ... the country is still in a critical period of flood prevention, so we need better forecasts and early warning systems, Shu said.He warned of the potential for landslides and flash floods caused by severe flooding to continue around the Songliao Basin in northern China and along the Yangtze River as the rainy season continues, with more storms expected in the northeast, southwest and east through Thursday. There had been flooding all over China this year. About 875,000 homes have been destroyed, 9.61 million people evacuated, and 22 million acres (8.76 million hectares) of crops ruined, according to the state flood control office.
Food fears for Pakistan flood survivors by Masroor Gilani – Wed Aug 4, 7:40 am ET
CHARSADDA, Pakistan (AFP) – Desperate survivors crushed into relief centres Wednesday after Pakistan's worst floods in living memory as officials feared a food crisis could compound the humanitarian disaster. With over three million people affected by the flooding, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani told his cabinet to speed up relief work and estimate damages likely to present a headache for a cash-strapped government.Record rains last week triggered floods and landslides that washed away entire villages and ruined farmland in one of the country's most impoverished and volatile regions, already hard hit by Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked violence. The international community has mobilised with offers of aid after the flooding that aid workers say has killed 1,500 people and affected 3.2 million, including 1.4 million children, according to UN and Pakistani figures. We see urgent need of food assistance to people affected by floods to prevent a starvation-like situation, said Amjad Jamal, spokesman for the UN World Food Programme.Eight percent of food reserves have been destroyed by the floods, which also caused massive damage to livestock, markets, roads and overall infrastructure.People need assistance immediately. The WFP wants to quickly deliver food supplies. We can avert a big crisis with immediate response, he said.Anger was at boiling point among impoverished survivors complaining they had been abandoned by the government after their livelihoods were swept away and protesting at a joy ride visit to Europe by President Asif Ali Zardari.
About 2,000 people, including women in burqas, who thronged the home of a local politician to receive food items in Shah Alam village near Charsadda said they had received no assistance from the government, only from local families.Falak Naz, 28 was visibly shaken. I am totally helpless now. I built a small house with a lot of effort. It is destroyed. How will I repair it? Will there be any government help? These questions keep haunting my mind, he said.Pakistan has issued new flood warnings as the rains spread, threatening to compound the misery of hundreds of thousands of victims. Many have fled, their belongings piled into donkey carts and cars, or taken refuge in mosques. We are facing severe shortages of food and medicine. People need food, they need medicine. We fear they will be die from hunger if not provided on time, information minister in the northwest, Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters. The United Nations said clean drinking water and sanitation were urgently needed to stop disease spreading after Pakistan's worst floods in 80 years following relentless monsoon rains. The number of affected districts in Punjab has risen to seven and there are alert warnings in five districts of southern province Sindh, the UN said.Nadeem Ahmad, chairman of Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority, estimated that roughly three million people were affected -- 1.5 million in the northwest and the same number in the central province Punjab. At one school converted into a relief centre, doctor Mahmood-ul Hassan said 1,500 people were getting treatment daily, suffering from different injuries and skin diseases. We have noticed cholera-like symptoms in some patients, but there is no epidemic so far. I am giving them antibiotics.Pakistan's weather bureau forecast widespread rains in the southern province of Sindh, Pakistani-held Kashmir and southwestern Baluchistan, as well as the hardest hit areas in the northwest and Punjab over the next two days.
The military, Pakistan's most powerful institution, said more than 60,000 people had been rescued from flood-hit areas and moved to safer places, with 40 helicopters and 450 army boats mobilised. The United States, which has pledged 10 million dollars in aid, said it was sending in army helicopters to help with the relief effort. Canada announced two million dollars in emergency aid while China said it was sending in 1.5 million dollars of supplies, in addition to pledges of aid from the United Nations and Britain among others.Jamaat-ud-Dawa, a charity on a UN terror blacklist and considered a front for the group blamed by India for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, said it was sending in 10 truck-loads of goods and nine medical teams to northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.A trail of destruction lined the road from Peshawar to Charsada, one of the worst-hit areas, where houses and shops were razed to the ground Wednesday as if a massive earthquake had jolted the region, said an AFP reporter.Anwer Kazmi, a spokesman for Pakistan's largest charity, the Edhi Foundation, said it had reports that more than 1,500 people had died. The United Nations has said around 980,000 people had lost their homes or been temporarily displaced.
Tropical Storm Colin now a low in the Atlantic

MIAMI – Tropical Storm Colin has degenerated into a tropical low, but forecasters say it could still reform before hitting the U.S. Atlantic seaboard next week. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the remnants of Colin had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph Tuesday, which are comparable to those of a tropical storm. But the system lacks a defined center or the circular movement characteristic of a tropical storm.Forecasters says the system could likely be reenergized in a few days when it moves into a more favorable environment. The system is located about 540 miles (865 kilometers) east of the Leeward Islands and is moving west-northwest near 35 mph (56 kph).Colin was the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.
MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Colin is moving rapidly across the Atlantic but early forecasts put it on a track off the U.S. Atlantic seaboard rather than into the Gulf of Mexico, where BP is working to finally plug its blown-out oil well. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kph) Tuesday and some slow strengthening is expected.Colin is located about 840 miles (1,355 kilometers) east-southeast of the Leeward Islands and is moving west near 24 mph (39 kph).Colin is the third tropical storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Powerful quake hits eastern Indonesia
Tue Aug 3, 8:57 am ET
JAKARTA, Indonesia – A powerful earthquake struck waters off of eastern Indonesia on Tuesday, but there were no immediate reports of damage and officials said there was no threat of a tsunami. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 and was centered off Sulawesi island, around 26 miles (42 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor. Some buildings shook in Manado, 100 miles (160 kilometers) east of the epicenter, and in the nearby cities of Bitung and Tondano. But Deny Hendrawanto, an official at Indonesia's earthquake monitoring office, said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.Dr. Fauzi, chief of the agency, said there also was no threat of a tsunami. Like many Indonesians, Fauzi uses just one name.Indonesia straddles a series of fault lines that make the vast island nation prone to volcanic and seismic activity. A giant quake off the country on Dec. 26, 2004, triggered the Indian Ocean tsunami that killed 230,000 people, half of them in Indonesia's westernmost province of Aceh.

Thick smog from raging wildfires engulfs Moscow By KHRISTINA NARIZHNAYA, Associated Press Writer - AUG 4,10
PEREDELTSY, Russia – Moscow was engulfed Wednesday by the thickest blanket of smog yet this summer, an acrid, choking haze from wildfires that have wiped out Russian forests, villages and a military base.Passengers on Moscow's subway said the eye-stinging haze hovered above the platforms, and City Hall warned of health risks from the smoke, which is carrying harmful gases including carbon monoxide.I woke up before dawn and thought I was going to die of suffocation, said Yadviga Pashkova, a frail, 62-year-old former schoolteacher who lives in central Moscow. It felt awful because there was no way out.To the east, firefighters focused on beating flames back from a top-secret nuclear research facility. In the capital, President Dmitry Medvedev fired several high-ranking military officials over what he called criminal negligence in fires that ravaged a military base.Russia is suffering through its worst heat wave on record, a condition that has sparked forest and peat fires across its central and western regions that have killed at least 48 people in the past week.
Over the last 24 hours, firefighters have extinguished 293 fires, but 403 others have been spotted and more than 500 others have continued to rage over large swathes of countryside, some of them out of control, the Emergencies Ministry said.Dry winds have sent clouds of smog over Moscow before, but Wednesday's was the worst yet, with the haze obscuring the capital's landmarks and penetrating the subway system.Moscow's 10 million residents were cautioned to protect themselves against the polluting smog, which came from wildfires in forests and peat bogs to the south and east. The bogs were drained in Soviet times to harvest peat, leaving them prone to wildfires.Pollution indicators in the capital reached a critical barrier overnight and even healthy people must take preventative measures, Moscow weather officials said. Residents were urged to face masks outdoors.Humans were not the only ones suffering. The smoke and smog in Moscow also have sickened and killed wild and pet birds who are especially sensitive to air pollution, said Vladimir Romanov, director of The Green Parrot Hospital. He did not have specific figures. Some 250 miles (400 kilometers) to the east, about 2,000 army troops and emergency personnel were fighting back flames that surrounded Russia's top nuclear research facility in Sarov. The situation there was tense but not critical, Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov said after new robotic firefighting equipment was sent to the scene overnight. There is no threat to the Federal Nuclear Center, and there is no reason for worry, Bulgakov was quoted by the ITAR-Tass news agency as saying. The country's nuclear chief, Sergei Kiriyenko, was quoted as saying that all explosive and radioactive material had been moved off site as a precaution.
The top-secret facility is Russia's main nuclear research center and the birthplace of Soviet nuclear weapons. Lawyers for the late Russian security agent Alexander Litvinenko, who died in London in 2006 after drinking tea laced with polonium, claimed the radioactive isotope that killed him was produced at Sarov.Another risk of radioactive contamination stems from the forest fires sweeping through areas polluted by the 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, Russian environmentalists said. The fires have the potential to send radioactive dust into the air, Nikolai Shmatkov of the World Wildlife Fund's Russia office and Vladimir Chuprov of Russian Greenpeace told The Associated Press. But nuclear energy scientists said the danger came not from radioactivity but from fine particles in the smoke. The concentration of radioactive elements will be so negligible that the smoke itself will be many more times more dangerous than the radioactivity in it, Ravil Bakin of the Institute for Safe Development of Nuclear Energy told the AP. Fine dust that contains chemical pollutants is the real danger and is much more poisonous than radioactivity. In the tiny village of Peredeltsy about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of Moscow, locals worried about their future after wildfires left their homes in smoldering ruins. I pray we won't be left in the street, said Yelena Savina, 27, who lost the home she shared with seven other family members. She said the fire approached the village so quickly on Sunday the family barely had time to escape.Everything burned in 15 minutes, she said of the village of about 20 houses, now surrounded by charred woodland. She said she was counting on Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to follow through on promises of 200,000 rubles ($6,600) compensation plus new homes. Medvedev fired the chief of Russia's naval aviation and at least seven high-ranking military officials after fires burned at least half of the buildings at a military base near Moscow. Russian media said up to 200 naval aircraft may have been destroyed. If something similar happens in other places, in other agencies, I'll do exactly the same thing, with no sympathy, Medvedev said at a security council meeting Wednesday. The weather this week will not likely help the firefighting efforts, as temperatures in Moscow and to the south and east were forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius (100 Fahrenheit).Associated Press writers David Nowak, Vladimir Isachenkov and Mansur Mirovalev contributed to this report.

Mexico: 28,000 killed in drug violence since 2006
Tue Aug 3, 11:42 pm ET
MEXICO CITY – President Felipe Calderon said he would consider a debate on legalizing drugs Tuesday as his government announced that more than 28,000 people have been killed in drug violence since he launched a crackdown against cartels in 2006.Intelligence agency director Guillermo Valdes also said authorities have confiscated about 84,000 weapons and made total cash seizures of $411 million in U.S. currency and $26 million worth in pesos (330 million pesos).Valdes released the statistics during a meeting with Calderon and representatives of business and civic groups, where attendees exploring ways to improve Mexico's anti-drug strategy called on the government to open a debate on legalization.Calderon said he has taken note of the idea of legally regulating drugs in the past. It's a fundamental debate in which I think, first of all, you must allow a democratic plurality (of opinions), he said. You have to analyze carefully the pros and cons and the key arguments on both sides.Three former presidents — Cesar Gaviria of Colombia, Ernesto Zedillo of Mexico and Fernando Cardoso of Brazil — urged Latin American countries last year to consider legalizing marijuana to undermine a major source of income for cartels. And Mexico's congress also has debated the issue. But Calderon has long said he is opposed to the idea, and his office issued a statement hours after the meeting saying that while the president was open to debate on the issue, he remains against the legalization of drugs. In proposing the debate Tuesday, analyst and writer Hector Aguilar Camin said, I'm not talking just about marijuana ... rather all drugs in general. The most recent official toll of the drug war dead came in mid-June, when the attorney general said 24,800 had died. Valdes did not specify a time frame for the new statistics. The government does not regularly break down murder statistics, but leading newspapers who kept their own counts say last month was the deadliest yet under Calderon: According to national daily Milenio, 1,234 were killed in July.
The Mexican government says most victims were involved in the drug trade. Some attendees criticized the government for lacking consistent statistics on the drug war and an effective way to communicate its successes. They also said the government needs to do more to combat the financial arm of organized crime. There's no systematic policy for investigating or seizing the assets of organized crime, said Jose Luis Pineyro of Mexico's Autonomous Metropolitan University, nor a system of locating the properties of organized crime.
Egypt admits rocket attack from its own soil By MAGGIE MICHAEL, Associated Press Writer - AUG 4,10
CAIRO – The deadly rocket attacks on Israel and Jordan's Red Sea ports were carried out by the militant Palestinian Hamas group operating from Egypt, an Egyptian official said Wednesday after days of denials.Immediately after a barrage of rockets crashed into the sea near Israel's Eilat resort town and killed a taxi driver in Jordan's Aqaba port, Egyptian officials had strongly denied the attack had come from Egypt. The security official said Hamas had fired seven rockets, including one which misfired and left debris near a security facility in the town of Taba. The attackers fired Soviet-style Grad rockets of the type used by militants in Lebanon and Gaza, he added, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
Hamas denied the Egyptian accusations and said it had no plans to start operating outside of the occupied territories. We don't accept this accusation, said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. The incident, Abu Zuhri said, was fabricated by the Zionist occupation in order to create an atmosphere of chaos in the region.Hamas' battle was and remains against the Israeli occupation of the land of Palestine, he said. The rockets hit a narrow area of the Red Coast where the Israeli and Jordanian ports are located side by side. One person was killed and four people wounded, all in Aqaba. It was the second such attack this year, after a similar volley in April that Israel also said was fired from Egypt.Aqaba and Eilat are more than 190 miles (300 kilometers) from Hamas' stronghold in the Gaza Strip.Egypt's official media indicated that Egypt will retaliate to Hamas' attacks in a powerful and a fierce way. The state-run Al-Gomhouriar, which is close to the ruling party an a front page editorial headlined read: Hamas and its ingratitude.
Hamas insists on harming Egypt's interests, the editoral read. It seems that from now on, Egypt will be its enemy and Hamas will do everything it can to destabilize security in our lands.Egypt has brokered several rounds of talks between Palestinian factions, including Hamas and is also a key mediator between the militant organization and Israel, especially over exchanging Palestinian prisoners for captured Israeli soldier Sgt. Gilad Schalit.Associated Press writer Ibrahim Barzak in Gaza City contributed to this report.
UN disputes Lebanese claim Israel violated border By BASSEM MROUE and ZEINA KARAM, Associated Press Writers - AUG 4,10
DEIR EL-ZAHRANI, Lebanon – U.N. peacekeepers said Wednesday a cypress tree an Israeli soldier was cutting down just before a border clash with Lebanese soldiers erupted was in Israeli territory, contradicting Lebanese claims that their frontier was breached. The clash Tuesday left a senior Israeli officer, two Lebanese soldiers and a Lebanese journalist dead and was the most serious since Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah fought a brief war in 2006. It was a stark reminder of how volatile the border remains, even though both sides appeared to be trying to restore calm and prevent an escalation. The Israeli soldier was cutting down the tree — something Israel does occasionally to improve its sight line into Lebanon — when Lebanese forces opened fire. The Lebanese army and a witness said U.N. peacekeepers intervened to ask the Israeli to stop cutting the tree, but Israel refused. UNIFIL, the peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, has not commented on that.
Both sides claimed the tree was in their territory.
Lebanon acknowledged Wednesday that the tree was south of an official, U.N.-drawn boundary known as the Blue Line separating the countries. The line was drawn in 2000 following the end of a two-decade Israeli occupation of south Lebanon that began with a war in 1982.However Lebanese Information Minister Tarek Mitri said his country disputes the Blue Line demarcation in certain areas, including the village of Adeisseh where the clash took place, and saw Israel's act in as a clear provocation.UNIFIL established, however, that the trees being cut by the Israeli army are located south of the Blue Line on the Israeli side, said force spokesman Lt. Naresh Bhatt. He said the peacekeepers were still investigating the clash.
Israel said the U.N. announcement clearly corroborated its version of events. Our routine activity yesterday was conducted entirely south of the frontier on the Israeli side and that the Lebanese Army opened fire without any provocation or justification whatsoever, government spokesman Mark Regev said.Tensions along the border have risen in recent months. Israel claims Hezbollah, a powerful force within Lebanon, has significantly expanded and improved its arsenal of rockets since their 2006 war with help from its allies Syria and Iran. However Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak sought Wednesday to calm the situation.I hope we will have a quiet summer and things will return to their normal course, he told Israel Radio. An Israeli military spokesman said the army was continuing operations as usual in the area and pruning more trees on Wednesday. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with military regulations.Mitri, the Lebanese minister, said Lebanon had been notified in advance of Wednesday's pruning under UNIFIL supervision and approved it. He said if Israel had done the same on Tuesday, we wouldn't have had the escalation.Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Andy David said the army was surprised by the violence because Israel carries out maintenance on the border regularly.Once a week, the army prunes bushes and trees on the border in coordination with UNIFIL, which coordinates with the Lebanese, David said. There was nothing unusual in the procedure. The border area where the clash took place has been a point of tension between the two countries in the past few years with several small incidents during which Lebanon accused Israel of crossing or encroaching on Lebanese territory. While (Lebanon) has respected the Blue Line and committed itself to respect the Blue Line, it has always affirmed that the Blue Line is not the international border and there are areas south of the Blue Line that are Lebanese territory, Mitri told reporters in Beirut. The area where the tree was to be cut yesterday ... is south of the Blue Line but is Lebanese territory.A fence that Israel erected may contribute to the confusion about which territory the tree is in. An Associated Press photo from Tuesday shows an Israeli standing on a crane reaching over the fence and into a wooded area, angering people on the Lebanese side.
But the fence does not match the Blue Line boundary in all places.
Lebanese and Israeli army officers and UNIFIL planned to meet later Wednesday along the border, the U.N. force's spokesman Andrea Tenenti said. The gathering had been planned before Tuesday's fighting, but it has taken a new urgency now. Hezbollah did not take part in the latest violence, but the group's leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, said Tuesday night that his forces would not stand by idly if Israeli troops ever attack Lebanese forces again. Adding to the friction, more than 70 people in Lebanon have been arrested since last year on suspicion of collaborating with Israel. In Beirut, security officials said Wednesday a former army brigadier general was detained on suspicion of spying for Israel a week after a current lieutenant colonel was arrested also on suspicion of collaborating with Israel.
Also Wednesday, funerals were being held for those killed Tuesday.
In the southern Lebanese village of Deir el-Zahrani, hundreds turned out as Lebanese Sgt. Abdullah Tufeili's coffin was carried through the streets. His 3-year-old daughter, Zahraa, and 6-year-old son, Mohammed Jawad, marched behind their father's coffin draped in Lebanon's white, red and green flag as a military band played funeral music. As Tufeili laid to rest in his grave, his father, Mohammed, held back his tears as he shouted: You are a hero, you are a hero! Iran claims to have S-300 surface-to-air missiles By ALI AKBAR DAREINI, Associated Press Writer – Wed Aug 4, 7:24 am ET
TEHRAN, Iran – Iran has obtained four S-300 surface-to-air missile systems despite Russia's refusal to deliver them to Tehran under a valid contract, a semiofficial Iranian news agency claimed Wednesday. The Fars news agency, which has ties to Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard, Iran's most powerful military force, said Iran received two S-300s from Belarus and two others from another unspecified source. Fars didn't elaborate, and there was no official confirmation of the report.Russia signed a 2007 contract to sell the S-300s, but so far has not delivered. The powerful, long-range missiles would significantly boost Iran's defense capability, and Israel and the United States have strongly objected to the deal. The S-300 is capable of shooting down aircraft, cruise missiles and ballistic missile warheads at ranges of over 90 miles (144 kilometers) and at altitudes of about 90,000 feet (27,432 meters). The report comes as Iran faces increasing pressure from the West over its nuclear program. The U.S. accuses Tehran of seeking to build an atomic weapon, a claim Iran denies. The United Nations has imposed four rounds of financial sanctions on Tehran for its refusal to halt uranium enrichment, a process that can be used to produce fuel for a reactor or a warhead. Iran says it has a right to conduct enrichment for what it says is its peaceful nuclear program.Moscow said in June that the latest round of U.N. sanctions would prevent it from delivering the S-300s to Iran. The U.S. State Department said that Washington appreciates Russia's restraint.
But last month, Sergei Chemezov, the head of the state-owned industrial giant Russian Technologies, said the contract for the delivery of S-300s to Iran had not been annulled yet pending a decision by President Dmitry Medvedev.Asked to comment on the Iranian report, Vyacheslav Davidenko, a spokesman for the Russian state arms trader Rosoboronexport, said that his company hadn't delivered any S-300s to Iran. We are abiding by the U.N. sanctions, he said.
Officials in Belarus refused to comment on the report.Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has forged close ties with Tehran, and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who visited the ex-Soviet nation in 2007, has called the Belarusian leader one of his best friends.Former Belarus' leader Stanislav Shushkevich, now an opposition politician, said that Russia in the past has used Belarus as a conduit for weapons deliveries to rogue nations.Belarus might well have used the established gray schemes to deliver S-300s to Iran, Shushkevich told The Associated Press. The deliveries of S-300s from Belarus to Iran would have been absolutely impossible without Russia's knowledge and sanction.Iran has insisted that Moscow is under an obligation to carry out the contract to provide the S-300 missiles to Tehran.
Iran possesses four S-300 PT missiles,Fars reported. The agency said Iran's possession of the missiles was revealed for the first time last year by Al-Menar TV, which is affiliated the Iranian-backed Islamic militant Hezbollah group in Lebanon. Fars said Iranian government officials never denied the report. It added that Iran may try to start building the missiles itself.Russia — which has sold other air-defense missiles, aircraft and other weapons to Iran — is in a difficult position in the international standoff with Iran, in part because it does not want to jeopardize decades of political and trade ties with the Islamic republic. Still, Moscow has lately shown increasing frustration with Iran, and last month backed the new sanctions.Associated Press Writers Vladimir Isachenkov in Moscow and Yuras Karmanau in Minsk, Belarus contributed to this report.

Oiled crabs stoke fears spill is tainting food web By JOHN FLESHER, AP Environmental Writer 3:00PM AUG 9,10
BARATARIA, La. – To assess how heavy a blow the BP oil spill has dealt the Gulf of Mexico, researchers are closely watching a staple of the seafood industry and primary indicator of the ecosystem's health: the blue crab.Weeks ago, before engineers pumped in mud and cement to plug the gusher, scientists began finding specks of oil in crab larvae plucked from waters across the Gulf coast. The government said last week that three-quarters of the spilled oil has been removed or naturally dissipated from the water. But the crab larvae discovery was an ominous sign that crude had already infiltrated the Gulf's vast food web — and could affect it for years to come.It would suggest the oil has reached a position where it can start moving up the food chain instead of just hanging in the water, said Bob Thomas, a biologist at Loyola University in New Orleans. Something likely will eat those oiled larvae ... and then that animal will be eaten by something bigger and so on.Tiny creatures might take in such low amounts of oil that they could survive, Thomas said. But those at the top of the chain, such as dolphins and tuna, could get fatal megadoses.Marine biologists routinely gather shellfish for study. Since the spill began, many of the crab larvae collected have had the distinctive orange oil droplets, said Harriet Perry, a biologist with the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.
In my 42 years of studying crabs I've never seen this, Perry said. She wouldn't estimate how much of the crab larvae are contaminated overall, but said about 40 percent of the area they are known to inhabit has been affected by oil from the spill.Tulane University researchers are investigating whether the splotches also contain toxic chemical dispersants that were spread to break up the oil but have reached no conclusions, biologist Caz Taylor said.If large numbers of blue crab larvae are tainted, their population is virtually certain to take a hit over the next year and perhaps longer, scientists say.How large the die-off would be is unclear, Perry said. An estimated 207 million gallons of oil have spewed into the Gulf since an April 20 drilling rig explosion triggered the spill, and thousands of gallons of dispersant chemicals have been dumped.Scientists will be focusing on crabs because they're a keystone species that play a crucial role in the food web as both predator and prey, Perry said.Richard Condrey, a Louisiana State University oceanographer, said the crabs are a living repository of information on the health of the environment.Named for the light-blue tint of their claws, the crabs have thick shells and 10 legs, allowing them to swim and scuttle across bottomlands. As adults, they live in the Gulf's bays and estuaries amid marshes that offer protection and abundant food, including snails, tiny shellfish, plants and even smaller crabs. In turn, they provide sustenance for a variety of wildlife, from redfish to raccoons and whooping cranes.Adults could be harmed by direct contact with oil and from eating polluted food. But scientists are particularly worried about the vulnerable larvae. That's because females don't lay their eggs in sheltered places, but in areas where estuaries meet the open sea. Condrey discovered several years ago that some even deposit offspring on shoals miles offshore in the Gulf.
The larvae grow as they drift with the currents back toward the estuaries for a month or longer. Many are eaten by predators, and only a handful of the 3 million or so eggs from a single female live to adulthood. But their survival could drop even lower if the larvae run into oil and dispersants. Crabs are very abundant. I don't think we're looking at extinction or anything close to it,said Taylor, one of the researchers who discovered the orange spots. Still, crabs and other estuary-dependent species such as shrimp and red snapper could feel the effects of remnants of the spill for years, Perry said. There could be some mortality, but how much is impossible to say at this point, said Vince Guillory, biologist manager with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.Perry, Taylor and Condrey will be among scientists monitoring crabs for negative effects such as population drop-offs and damage to reproductive capabilities and growth rates.Crabs are big business in the region. In Louisiana alone, some 33 million pounds are harvested annually, generating nearly $300 million in economic activity, Guillory said. But fishermen who can make a six-figure income off crabs in a good year now are now idled — and worried about the future. If they'd let us go out and fish today, we'd probably catch crabs, said Glen Despaux, 37, who sets his traps in Louisiana's Barataria Bay. But what's going to happen next year, if this water is polluted and it's killing the eggs and the larvae? I think it's going to be a long-term problem.
Work remains even with BP leak plugged, oil fading By HARRY R. WEBER and GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writers - 2PM AUG 4,10
NEW ORLEANS – BP claimed a key milestone Wednesday in the effort to plug its blown-out well as a government report said much of the spilled oil is gone, heartening officials who have taken heat during the tricky cleanup but leaving some Gulf Coast residents skeptical.BP PLC reported that mud forced down the well overnight was pushing the crude back down to its source for the first time since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded off Louisiana on April 20, killing 11 workers. And a federal report being released Wednesday indicated that only about a quarter of the spilled oil remains in the Gulf and is degrading quickly, with the rest having been contained, cleaned up or otherwise disappeared.President Barack Obama, while noting that people's lives have been turned upside down, declared in Washington that the operation was finally close to coming to an end.The containment effort isn't over. Crews performing the so-called static kill effort overnight now must decide whether to follow up by pumping cement down the broken wellhead. Federal officials said they won't declare complete victory until they get into the well from the other end, and that won't happen for weeks. This job will not be complete until we finish the relief well and pump mud and cement in through the bottom, retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man on the spill response, said at a news briefing in Washington.Nearly three-quarters of the oil — more than 152 million gallons — has been collected at the well by a temporary containment cap, been cleaned up or chemically dispersed, or naturally deteriorated, evaporated or dissolved, according to a report by the Interior Department and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It was captured. It was skimmed. It was burned. It was contained. Mother Nature did her part, White House energy adviser Carol Browner said on NBC's Today show.
That leaves nearly 53 million gallons in the Gulf. The amount remaining — or washed up on the shore — is still nearly five times the size of the 11 million-gallon Exxon Valdez spill, which wreaked environmental havoc in Alaska in 1989.About a quarter of the oil evaporated or dissolved in the warm Gulf waters, the same way sugar dissolves in water, federal officials said. Another one-sixth naturally dispersed because of the way it leaked from the well. Another one-sixth was burned, skimmed or dispersed using controversial chemicals.Nearly 207 million gallons leaked from the well in total, according to government estimates. The cap held back nearly 35 million gallons. The report's calculations were based on daily operational reports, estimates by scientists and various analyses by experts. The government acknowledged it made certain assumptions about how oil dissolves in water naturally over time.
Officials, while encouraged by the report, stressed that the fight wasn't over.
Less oil on the surface does not mean that there isn't oil still in the water column or that our beaches and marshes aren't still at risk, NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco cautioned in a news release.A Florida State University oceanographer who has long been tracking the spill, and who early on challenged the government's low estimates of its size, called the report spin. There's some science here, but mostly it's spin, and it breaks my heart to see them do it,said the oceanographer, Ian McDonald. This is an unfortunate report,he said.I'm afraid this continues a track record of doubtful information distributed through NOAA.Charter boat captain Randy Boggs, of Orange Beach, Ala., said Wednesday he has a hard time believing BP's claims of success with the static kill and similarly dismissed the idea that only a quarter of the oil remains in the Gulf. There are still boats out there every day working, finding turtles with oil on them and seeing grass lines with oil in it, said Boggs, 45. Certainly all the oil isn't accounted for. There are millions of pounds of tar balls and oil on the bottom. In the fishing town of Yscloskey, La., crabber Oliver Rudesill, 28, said he has been out of business like most of his buddies, some of whom are doing cleanup for BP instead but are earning about a quarter of what they do fishing. As soon as BP gets this oil out of sight, they'll get it out of mind, and we'll be left to deal with it alone,he said Tuesday.
At the entrance to Gulf Islands National Seashore at Pensacola Beach, Fla., Don Allen still wasn't expecting to sell many snow cones or Italian sausages from his food truck. I don't know where it went if it's not out there, said Allen, who had to lay off his son because business has been so slow as tourists abandoned beaches over the summer. It's all just numbers, and it has changed so often.BP applied nearly 2 million gallons of a chemical dispersant to the oil as it spewed from the well, an attempt to break it into droplets so huge slicks wouldn't tarnish shorelines and coat marine animals, and to encourage it to degrade more quickly. In Washington on Wednesday, lawmakers pressed scientists to explain what effects the chemical, whose long-term effects have been questioned, will have on the Gulf's ecosystem. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., called use of the chemicals a grand experiment that didn't guarantee limited damage from the spill or make clear whether greater harm was possible. The 75-ton cap placed on the well in July had been keeping the oil bottled up inside over the past three weeks but was considered only a temporary measure. BP and the Coast Guard wanted to plug up the hole with a column of heavy drilling mud and cement to seal it off more securely. The static kill — also known as bullheading — involved slowly pumping the mud from a ship down lines running to the top of the ruptured well a mile below. A previous, similar effort failed in May when the mud couldn't overcome the unstemmed flow of oil.Workers stopped pumping mud in after about eight hours of static kill work and were monitoring the well to ensure it remained stable, BP said.Weber reported from aboard the Q4000. Contributing to this report were Associated Press writers Dina Cappiello and Seth Borenstein in Washington, Jay Reeves in Birmingham, Ala., Jennifer Kay in Pensacola Beach, Fla., and Jason Dearen in Yscloskey, La.
BP oil well gushed 4.9 million barrels: US
Mon Aug 2, 7:21 pm ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) – The US government on Monday said BP's ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico gushed an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oil, making it the largest accidental oil spill of all time.Overall, the scientific teams estimate that approximately 4.9 million barrels of oil have been released from the well, the joint response command that includes BP and the US government said in a statement describing the new estimate. Not all of this oil and gas flowed into the ocean; containment activities conducted by BP under US direction captured approximately 800,000 barrels of oil prior to the capping of the well, they said. The 4.9 million barrels is at the upper end of an earlier official estimate, which said that between 3.0 million and 5.3 million barrels had spewed from the well between April 20, when the BP-leased Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, and July 15, when a cap placed over the wellhead was finally sealed. The refined estimates are the most accurate to date and have an uncertainty of plus or minus 10 percent, according to the statement. The 4.1 million uncontained barrels estimated to have spewed into the water make the spill the biggest accidental oil disaster in the history of the petroleum industry, and second only to the intentional release of crude by Iraqi forces during the 1991 Gulf War.
The previous largest accidental spill was a 1979 disaster -- also in the Gulf of Mexico -- in which 3.3 million barrels gushed from the Ixtoc-1 well after an explosion on a rig operated by Mexican state oil company Pemex. The BP spill revision was based on new pressure readings, data and analysis of oil reservoir modeling studied by teams comprised of federal and independent US scientists, including a Department of Energy team of scientists led by President Barack Obama's energy secretary, Steven Chu, the statement said. The revised estimates are part of this administration's ongoing commitment to ensuring that we have the most accurate information possible, Chu said. When the well first ruptured, 62,000 barrels of oil per day were leaking from the well, beyond the 35,000 to 60,000 barrels most recently estimated by US authorities, but the flow rate decreased to 53,000 barrels per day just before the well was capped, the statement said.As a result of depletion of the hydrocarbon reservoir, the daily flow rate decreased over the 87 days prior to the well's closure, according to the statement. The new figures are based in part on analysis of high-resolution videos taken by remotely operated underwater vehicles, acoustic technologies, measurements of oil collected by vessels on the surface, and readings of pressure measurements inside the containment cap.Government scientists will continue to analyze data and may in time be able to further refine this estimate, the statement said.
BP: Upcoming kill attempt might do the trick alone By GREG BLUESTEIN, Associated Press Writer - AUG 2,10
NEW ORLEANS – After insisting for months that a pair of costly relief wells were the only surefire way to kill the oil leak at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, BP officials said Monday they may be able to do it just with lines running from a ship to the blown-out well a mile below. As crews planned testing to determine whether to proceed with a static kill to pump mud and perhaps cement down the throat of the well, BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells said if it's successful the relief wells may not be needed, after all, to do the same weeks later from the bottom. The primary relief well, near completion, will still be finished and could be used simply to ensure the leak is plugged, Wells said.Even if we were to pump the cement from the top, we will still continue on with the relief well and confirm that the well is dead,he said. Either way,we want to end up with cement in the bottom of the hole.
Government officials and company executives have long said the wells, which can cost about $100 million each, may be the only way to make certain the oil is contained to its vast undersea reservoir. A federal task force says about 172 million gallons of oil made it into the Gulf between April and mid-July, when a temporary cap bottled up all the oil. That number is on the high end of recent estimates that anywhere from 92 million to 184 million gallons had gushed into the sea.The company began drilling the primary, 18,000-foot relief well May 2, 12 days after the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and killed 11 workers, and a second backup well May 16. The first well is now only about 100 feet from the target, and Wells said it could reach it as early as Aug. 11.Precisely what the relief wells will do remains to be seen given what we learn from the static kill, BP spokesman Daren Beaudo said. Can't predict it for certain.Retired Adm. Thad Allen, the government's point man on the spill response, said Monday that the focus now is on making sure the static kill is successful. But he cautioned that federal officials don't see it as the end all, be all until we get the relief well done. One of the biggest variables is whether the area called the annulus, which is between the inner piping and the outer casing, has sprung an oil leak. Engineers probably won't be able to answer that question until they drill in from the bottom, he said.Everyone would like to have this thing over as soon as possible, Allen said, adding: We don't know the condition of the well until we start pushing mud into it.The company's statements Monday might signal that it is more concerned than it has acknowledged about debris found in the relief well after it was briefly capped as Tropical Storm Bonnie passed last week, said Ed Overton, a Louisiana State University environmental sciences professor.
Plus, trying to seal the well from the top gives BP two shots at ending the disaster, Overton said.Frankly, if they can shut it off from the top and it's a good, permanent seal, I'll take it,Overton said. A bird in the hand at this point is a good thing with this deal. Before the effort can begin, engineers must probe the broken blowout preventer with an oil-like liquid to decide whether it can handle the static kill process. They had hoped to begin the hours-long test Monday but delayed it until Tuesday after a small leak was discovered in the hydraulic control system.
The static kill is meant as a bit of insurance for the crews who have spent months fighting the oil spill. The only thing keeping oil from blowing into the Gulf at the moment is the experimental cap, which has held for more than two weeks but was never meant to be permanent.BP and federal officials have managed to contain large parts of the spill through skimmers, oil-absorbant boom and chemical dispersants meant to break up the oil.Federal regulators have come under fire from critics who say that BP was allowed to use excessive amounts of the dispersants, but government officials counter that they have helped dramatically cut the use of the chemicals since late May. The Environmental Protection Agency released a study Monday concluding that when mixed with oil, chemical dispersants used to break up the crude in the Gulf are no more toxic to aquatic life than oil alone.Associated Press writers Jeffrey Collins and Harry R. Weber in New Orleans and Matthew Daly in Washington contributed to this report.
Investigators blast BP for liberal dispersant use By H. JOSEF HEBERT and MICHAEL KUNZELMAN, Associated Press Writers - 12:50PM SUN AUG 1,10
NEW ORLEANS – As BP inched closer to permanently sealing the blown-out oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, congressional investigators railed against the company and Coast Guard for part of the cleanup effort, saying too much toxic chemical dispersant was used. The Coast Guard routinely approved BP requests to use thousands of gallons of the chemical per day to break up the oil in the Gulf, despite a federal directive to use the dispersant rarely, the investigators said. The Coast Guard approved 74 waivers over a 48-day period after the Environmental Protection Agency order, according to documents reviewed by the investigators. Only in a few cases did the government scale back BP's request.Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., released a letter Saturday that said instead of complying with the EPA restriction, BP often carpet bombed the ocean with these chemicals and the Coast Guard allowed them to do it.
Officials for BP and the spill response effort did not immediately comment.
The chemical dispersant was effective at breaking up the oil into small droplets to be consumed more easily by bacteria, but the long-term effects to aquatic life are unknown. That environmental uncertainty has led to several spats between BP and the government over the use of dispersants on the surface and deep underwater when oil was spewing out of the well.BP's apparently generous use of dispersants helps explain why so little oil has been spotted on the surface, said Larry McKinney, executive director of the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.Whether the benefits of dispersants outweigh the possible risks is a debatable point,he said. They've protected the Gulf Coast's fragile wetlands from heavier bands of oil but are capable of killing shrimp and crab eggs and larvae. That's a debate with no right answer,he said.A temporary cap has held the gusher in check for more than two weeks, and engineers were planning to start as early as Monday on an effort to help plug the well for good. The procedure, dubbed the static kill, involves pumping mud and possibly cement into the blown-out well through the temporary cap.If it works, it will take less time to complete a similar procedure using a relief well that is nearly complete. That effort, known as a bottom kill, should be the last step to sealing the well. Before the static kill can take place, however, debris needs to be cleared from one of the relief wells. The debris fell in the bottom of the relief well when crews had to evacuate the site last week because of Tropical Storm Bonnie.Companies working to plug the disaster for good are engaged in a billion-dollar blame game. But the workers for BP, Halliburton and Transocean say the companies' adversarial relationship before Congress isn't a distraction at the site of the April 20 rig explosion, where Transocean equipment rented by BP is drilling relief wells that Halliburton will pump cement through to choke the oil well permanently.Simply, we are all too professional to allow disagreements between BP and any other organization to affect our behaviors,Ryan Urik, a BP well safety adviser working on the Development Driller II, which is drilling a backup relief well, said in an e-mail last week.
The roles of the three companies in the kill efforts are much the same as they were on the Deepwater Horizon, the exploratory rig that blew up, killing 11 workers. The Justice Department has opened civil and criminal investigations, hundreds of lawsuits have been filed, and congressional investigators are probing the blast and its aftermath.BP is trying to move forward from the disaster, which sent anywhere from 94 million to 184 million gallons of oil spewing into the Gulf, announcing once the cap was finally in place that its vilified chief executive, Tony Hayward, would be leaving in October. The are other signs of change in the Gulf. State waters closed by the spill have slowly reopened to fishing, most recently in Florida, where regulators on Saturday reopened a 23-mile stretch of Escambia County shoreline to harvest saltwater fish. The area was closed June 14 and remains closed to the shrimp and crab harvesting pending additional testing. Oysters, clams and mussels were never included in the closure. In Alabama, the Department of Public Health lifted all swimming advisories for the Gulf of Mexico. BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles planned a boat tour of recovery efforts Sunday off Venice, La.Interior Secretary Ken Salazar toured three offshore oil rigs last week, his most extensive trip since the unprecedented shutdown of offshore drilling. Salazar told The Associated Press, which accompanied him, that he's gathering information to decide whether to revise or even lift the ban, which is scheduled to last until Nov. 30. Business groups and Gulf Coast political leaders say the shutdown is crippling the oil and gas industry and costing thousands of jobs, even aboard rigs not operated by BP PLC. The freeze is like punishing the whole class when a student does something wrong, oil executive John Breed told Salazar during a tour of the Noble Danny Adkins, one of the rigs Salazar visited Wednesday. Salazar told the AP he believes the industry-wide moratorium imposed after BP's Gulf oil spill was the correct call.I think we're in the right direction,he said, adding that the ultimate goal is to allow deepwater operations to resume safely. We're not there yet,he said.Contributing to this report were Associated Press writers Matt Daly on the Gulf of Mexico; Harry R. Weber in Port Sulphur, La.; Greg Bluestein in New Orleans; and Ray Henry in Atlanta.
