Answer: This is a two-part question. The first part is “Did God know Satan would rebel and Adam and Eve would sin? The answer lies in what the Bible teaches about God’s knowledge. We know from Scripture that God is omniscient, which literally means all-knowing. Job 37:16, Psalm 139:2-4; Psalm 147:5, Proverbs 5:21, Isaiah 46:9-10, and 1 John 3:19-20 leave no doubt that God’s knowledge is infinite and that He knows everything that has happened in the past, is happening now, and will happen in the future.Looking at some of the superlatives in these verses—perfect in knowledge; his understanding has no limit; he knows everything—it is clear that God’s knowledge isn’t merely greater than our own, but it is infinitely greater. He knows all things in totality. Not only that, but Isaiah 46:10 declares He not only knows everything, but He controls everything as well. How else could He make known to us what would happen in the future and state unequivocally that His plans will come to pass? So did God know that Adam and Eve were going to sin? Did He know Lucifer would rebel against Him and become Satan? Yes! Absolutely! Were they out of His control at any time? Absolutely not. If God’s knowledge is not perfect, then there is a deficiency in His nature. Any deficiency in God’s nature means he cannot be God, for God’s very essence requires the perfection of all His attributes. Therefore, the answer to the first question must, by necessity, be yes.Moving on to the second part of the question, Why did God create Satan and Adam and Eve knowing ahead of time they were going to sin? This question is a little trickier because we are asking a why question, to which the Bible doesn’t usually provide comprehensive answers. Despite that, we should be able to come to a limited understanding if we examine some biblical passages. To begin, we have already seen that God is omniscient and nothing can happen outside of His knowledge. So if God knew that Satan would rebel and fall from heaven and Adam and Eve would sin, and yet He created them anyway, it must mean that the fall of mankind was part of God’s sovereign plan from the beginning. No other answer makes sense given what we have been saying thus far.

Now we must be careful to note that Adam and Eve falling into sin does not mean that God is the author of sin, nor that he tempted Adam and Eve to sin (James 1:13). The fall serves the purpose of God’s overall plan for creation and mankind. This, again, must be the case or else the fall of mankind would never have happened.If we consider what some theologians call the ‘meta-narrative’ (or over-arching story-line) of Scripture, we see that biblical history can be roughly divided into three main sections: 1) paradise (Genesis 1-2); 2) paradise post (Genesis 3 - Revelation 20); 3) paradise regained (Revelation 21-22). By far the largest part of the narrative is devoted to moving from paradise lost to paradise regained. At the center of this meta-narrative is the cross. The cross was planned from the very beginning (Acts 2:23). It was foreknown and foreordained that Christ would go to the cross and give His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28)—those chosen by God’s foreknowledge and predestined to be His people (Ephesians 1:4-5).Reading Scripture very carefully and taking what has been said so far, we are led to the following conclusions:

1. The rebellion of Satan and the fall of mankind were foreknown and foreordained by God.
2. Those who would become the people of God, the elect, were foreknown and foreordained by God.
3. The crucifixion of Christ, as atonement for God’s people, was foreknown and foreordained by God.

So we are left with the following questions: Why create mankind with the knowledge of the fall? Why create mankind knowing that only some would be saved? Why send Jesus knowingly to die for a people that knowingly fell into sin? From man’s perspective, it doesn’t make sense. If the meta-narrative moves from paradise to paradise lost to paradise regained, why not just go straight to paradise regained and avoid the whole paradise lost interlude? The only conclusion we can come to in view of the above assertions is that God’s purpose was to create a world in which His glory could be manifest in all its fullness. The glory of God is the overarching goal of creation. In fact, it is the overarching goal of everything He does. The universe was created to display God’s glory (Psalm 19:1), and the wrath of God is revealed against those who fail to glorify God (Romans 1:23). Our sin causes us to fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23), and in the new heaven and new earth, the glory of God is what will provide light (Revelation 21:23). The glory of God is manifest when His attributes are on perfect display, and the story of redemption is part of that.The best place to see this in Scripture is Romans 9:19-24. Wrath and mercy display the riches of God’s glory, and you can’t get either without the fall of mankind. Therefore, all of the above assertions—fall, election, redemption, atonement—serve the purpose of glorifying God. When man fell into sin, God’s mercy was immediately displayed in not killing him on the spot. God’s patience and forbearance were also on display as mankind fell deeper into sin prior to the flood. God’s justice and wrath were on display as He executed judgment during the flood, and God’s mercy and grace were demonstrated as he saved Noah and his family. God’s wrath and justice will be revealed in the future when He deals with Satan once and for all (Revelation 20:7-10).

The ultimate exhibition of God’s glory was at the cross where His wrath, justice, and mercy met. The righteous judgment of all sin was executed at the cross, and God’s grace was on display in pouring His wrath for sin on His Son, Jesus, instead of on us. God’s love and grace are on display in those whom He has saved (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9). In the end, God will be glorified as His chosen people worship him for all eternity with the angels, and the wicked will also glorify God as His justice and righteousness will finally be vindicated by the eternal punishment of all unrepentant sinners (Philippians 2:11). None of this could have come to pass without the rebellion of Satan and the fall of Adam and Eve.The classic objection to this position is that God’s foreknowledge and foreordination of the fall does damage to man’s freedom. In other words, if God created mankind with full knowledge of the impending fall into sin, how can man be responsible for his sin? The best answer to this question can be found in the Westminster Confession of Faith chapter III:God, from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of his own will, freely, and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass; yet so, as thereby neither is God the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures; nor is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established(WFC, III.1)

What this is saying is that God ordains future events in such a way that our freedom and the working of secondary causes (i.e., laws of nature) are preserved. Theologians call this concurrence.God’s sovereign will flows concurrently with our free choices in such a way that our free choices always result in the carrying out of God’s will (when I say free choices what I mean is that our choices are not coerced by outside influences).Wrapping this up, God knew that Satan would rebel and Adam and Eve would sin in the Garden of Eden. With that knowledge, God still created Lucifer and Adam and Eve because creating them and ordaining the fall was part of His sovereign plan to manifest His glory in all its fullness. Even though the fall was foreknown and foreordained, our freedom in making choices is not violated because our free choices are the means by which God’s will is carried out.

Introduction:

Having provided the reader in Parts One and Two with evidence, albeit of a somewhat gnostic[13] and mythical nature, that the seed of the Fallen Angels and that of the Satanic line of Cain survived the Great Flood,I will in this the concluding episode attempt to connect the dots and bring us up to the present day, and answer the question which is the very subject base of this article; namely; Who Rules The World?

Please be aware that this series of articles is pure hypothesis. I was not there, and did not perceive any of the events and circumstances depicted with one or another of my five senses. On the other hand, I hope the reader agrees that what I have written in some way helps to explain the dire circumstances we find ourselves in in this first decade of the twenty first century.For the purposes of this article, the term Fallen Angels is a general term used to describe both the Nephilim, who fell from pride with Lucifer, and also those Son's Of God,known as The Watchers,who led by Samyaza fell through lusting after the daughters of men.[10]

The Origin Of Evil:

Jesus Christ spoke of one He called a murderer from the beginning and a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44, NRSV). Here Jesus identifies the origin of evil and suffering, a being who initiated lying, deceit, hatred and murder-the enemy, the adversary of mankind, Lucifer the devil (1 Peter 5:8).We wonder, and rightly so, what happens in the mind of a Criminal, President or a Dictator, that transforms him into a sadist, mass murderer, a savage beast with no compassion. What causes a human being to act in such a way? Such a change took place in the mind of the being who became Satan and through his seed, evil entered the world and through his seed, it is still here with us.Scripture tells us he was once a glorious super angel whose name, Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12), meant light-bringer.God says of this being: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you (Ezekiel 28:12-15).Lucifer was a special kind of spirit, the anointed cherub who covers-an angel whose wings covered the very throne of God himself (compare Exodus 25:17-20; Hebrews 9:1-9, 23).But something changed in Lucifer. God tells him: How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High(Isaiah 14:12-14, NIV).

Lucifer convinced himself he was as good as or even better than his Maker. He rebelled against God, determining to exalt himself above the stars of God; the other angels (Revelation 1:20). You were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you ... Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendour ...(Ezekiel 28:16-17, NIV).Although the Bible introduces Lucifer as Satan when he seduces Eve in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3), he has been around far longer. He was in effect the first criminal, a divine being whose mind and thinking grew corrupt, twisted and perverse. He introduced evil into the world, by inseminating Adam's wife, thereby be-getting Cain, and introducing the Satanic Bloodline into mankind. Then this greatest of sins was was compounded further by the two hundred Watcher's of Samyaza, who fell through lusting after the daughters of men, and copulated with them producing a race of Giants known as the Gibborim or Anakim. This is the source of the evil with which humanity has struggled against ever since.Ye Offspring Of Vipers: That Jesus spoke of two distinct seeds, one that came from God through Adam, and another originating from Satan and the Fallen Angels, is a part of the Biblical record (which we shall examine in greater detail below). In Chapter Eight of the Gospel Of John, Christ states unequivocally when addressing the Pharisees, that they, the High Priests of Judaism, were the seed of the Satan. Jesus makes reference in a number of places to Satan's children. In the parable of the Tares and the Wheat,he spoke of the farmer who sowed good seed in his field and his enemy came along during the night-time and sowed poisonous weeds, the tares among the wheat. When the farmer's servants saw the tares growing among the wheat they asked him if they should go and pull them. The farmer said: No, you might pull up some of the wheat with them. Let them grow together until the time of the harvest, and then the reapers will first gather the tares into bundles to be burned, and then put the wheat in my barn.In Matthew 13:38-39 Jesus explains, that the field is the world; the Wheat,the good seed are the children of Adam but the Tares are the children of Lucifer. One time, when addressing the Pharisees, Jesus says in Matthew 12:34: O generation of vipers, how can ye being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Since the very beginning, they had borne the characteristics of their father Satan, and Jesus knew who they were! In Matthew 23:29-35 it is recorded: Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. Ye serpents, ye genema (ye offspring, children) of vipers. How can ye escape the damnation of hell? That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar.

It is my contention that Jesus was identifying the Pharisees and their kind as an evolution entirely apart from the children of God through Adam and Seth. One which through intermarriage had eventually embodied in any or all races, retaining the characteristics of the proud and lustful, murderous and slanderous Fallen Angels from which they descended. The established Christian Churches have refused to acknowledge what Jesus taught outright; that the Tares, the sons of Satan have been genetically sown among the good seed of the son's of Adam through Seth, and that they even today walk among us as Fallen Angels incarnate, and their offspring, who maintain the meticulous outward appearance of men and women, but whose blood seethes with hatred and wantonness, lacking entirely any sense of Godly righteousness. As in the story told by Christ, the seed of God is embodied in every race, nation and tribe, and the seed of Lucifer/Satan has been sowed amongst them all. Throughout the Bible it records the two seed lines; Yahweh and Lucifer's. For example in the Weymouth translation, this same verse, John 3:12 reads, We are not to resemble Cain who was a child of the evil one and killed his brother.The Phillips' translation reads, We are none of us to have the spirit of Cain who was a son of the devil and murdered his brother.The superlative New English Bible reads: Unlike Cain who was a child of the evil one and murdered his brother.The Biblical verses that theologians often use as a basis to denounce the belief that there are on this earth today the literal descendants of Cain and therefore Satan, is John 8:31-33, in which Jesus is speaking to the Judeans;If ye continue in My doctrines indeed, then ye shall be My disciples; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.They answered Him,We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man.But even a casual reader of the Bible will know that all of Abraham's children had been in bondage at one time or another? Here is evidence that these people whom Jesus was addressing were not descendants of Abraham.If they had been of any of the twelve tribes of Israel, they would have been in bondage the first time in Egypt. If they belonged to the ten northerly tribes, they would have been in bondage the second time in Assyria. If they were of the two tribe southern kingdom of Judah, they would have been in bondage the second time in Babylon. Yet the Judeans admitted they had never been in bondage to any man, thus demonstrating they weren't of Israel or Judah. Who of them could say that the Hebrew Patriarch Abraham was one of his ancestors?

The Edomites:

Esau and Jacob, the grandsons of Abraham were twin brothers, presumably born with the same bloodline. However, Esau married two Canaanite women in violation of Yahweh's law. In doing this, Esau's line became contaminated, because among the Canaanites, who were the progeny of Satan and the Fallen Angels, the evil bloodline thrived and coalesced.Subsequently, Esau's descendants would carry the demon seed of Lucifer and transmit it widely. The Bible tells us that Esau and his two Canaanite wives moved down to Mount Seir, a rugged mountain range south-east of the Dead Sea. This is where the Anakim were said to live. Among the people who had the blood line of the Fallen Angels were the Horites. They were the cave dwellers also known as the Horim, who were of the seed of the Anakim..Genesis 36:20-30 lists Esau's descendants. Listed are all the various chieftains among the family of Seir, the Horite Satanic line, including his daughter Timna. Genesis 36:12 records that Timna was a concubine to Esau's son Eliphaz and bore him a son, Amalek. The Old Testament account of Amalek and his tribe of Amalek is damning indeed and depicts them behaving entirely according to their Satanic bloodline. (Exodus 17:8-16 and Numbers 20:14-21).When Nebuchadnezzar captured Jerusalem, his army, as was the military tradition in those times, looted and burned the city and then slaughtered the inhabitants. Proving themselves wicked, and no kinsmen to the Sons Of Judah,the Edomites came rushing in to assist in the massacre and plunder. The Bible book of Obadiah is almost a continuous condemnation of the Edomites. It also predicted their eventual slaughter and punishment for what they did. Obadiah verse 10 records: For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off forever.The Edomites, carrying the Satanic Bloodline arrived in the land of Judah during two migrations. At the same time that the tribes of Judah and Benjamin were suffering in forced exile in Babylon, the Edomites were driven out of Mount Seir by the Nabateans, an Arabic people from the east. So the Edomites were driven westward. They couldn't go directly west or south-west as that would have meant entering Egypt and they weren't strong enough to do battle with the Egyptians. Consequently they went slightly north-west and took over the southerly half of what had been the kingdom of Judah and settled there.The second wave of Edomites arrived when Herod became king of Judea, under the protection of the Roman Empire. In 37 B.C., Rome formally recognized Herod as the local king of Judea. With him had come his Edomite followers who quickly overran the area. This is the same Herod that tried to murder Jesus as a baby.

Herod left the kingdom of Judea to his son Herod Archelaus, whom the Romans gave the title Ethnarch. For ten years he ruled as all tyrants do, until the people finally petitioned Rome to take control. From that time on, the province was ruled by a series of Roman procurators, of which Pilate was the sixth to hold office. Although the military government was entirely in the hands of the Roman procurators, and they were also in full charge of the tax collections for Rome, the Herodian Edomites still retained control of the entire religious apparatus and the temple, along with control of the local civil government, and could collect their own taxes.But Jesus knew them for who they were. He recognized the two seed lines. He said clearly that they were the children of Lucifer. Both the Old and New Testaments recognize the two Bloodlines;The Adamic line of Yahweh's children, and the Satanic line of Satan, of which some of the most malevolent have come down through the line of Cain and thereafter Esau.

A Rage Of Angels:

Dr Paul D. Hanson of Harvard University when addressing the account of the Fall of Angels in the Books of Genesis and Enoch[10] writes: All of the evil in the world stems from from a heavenly event, the rebellion of a divine being and his legions, and more immediately from the resulting generation of their pernicious offspring in the world.Does the Biblical tale of the Fall of Angels offer us an explanation in our own times regarding the apparent differential in stature and power among men? As in the authority and control exercised by the Illuminati Elite over the mass of humanity for example. If we for one moment turn from those ancient times so long ago, when Lucifer, the Nephilim and later the Watcher's of Heaven[11], insinuated their unwanted attentions into the lives of men, and consider those individuals on earth today who display so easily that magnetic personality and greater sense of self importance to which the little people always seem to defer. Those imposing and ingratiating men and women who seem to believe it is their birthright to rule the rest of us. The latter, who make up the great mass of humankind, being so thoroughly intimidated and in awe of the former, they become as their forefathers in antiquity were, the idolaters of men who believe themselves as Gods, rather than worshippers of their creator.For countless Millennia, the Fallen Angels have been propagating themselves as the Rulers over the ruled. Modelled on the original prototype himself, they have cloned and carbon copied through ceaseless interbreeding an oppressive Luciferian Power Elite. These are the Caesars and Tyrants, the emperors and high priests, senators and warlords, money-changers and lawyers, secure in their private clubs and retreats, in firm control, with money and sex as their cherubim. They rule the world as if it was their own, or at the very least as Proxy Lords for their Satanic Master.Few today seem to understand, or even care why so many people and even whole societies have become so angry, blasphemous, raging, rebellious and restless. Human Civilisation has become like a dying race whose core has become rotten. Is it because those who control us, and manipulate our opinions to suit their own, through their control of education, the media and all other avenues of information, are just not who or what we think they are? In the early days of Christianity, between the second and fourth centuries A.D., the question of Satan and the Fallen Angels becoming corporeal, along with the very nature of evil itself occupied the thoughts and debates of those we call the Church Fathers.Convinced that the wicked ones were still living amongst men, they turned to the Book Of Enoch for explanations. In the second century for example, Justin Martyr ascribed all evil to Demons whom he alleged to be the offspring of those Watchers who fell from grace through lust after the daughters of men.One of the most influential of the early clerics was Origen,much of whose writing was later banned by the Church. He believed that Angels could embody as men, and along with others of his time suggested that the wicked ones amongst us, the Caligula's, Nero's and all the other brutal murderers, men without conscience or pity, were of an entirely different psychological and spiritual make-up than others. Such killers, when angered, respond with a species of inhuman viciousness, without either mercy or remorse. A depravity that is surely derived from their ungodly father. Origen and his fellows reasoned that the very cause of the wickedness in the world at that time was due to the continued presence and influence in the lives of men of the Nephilim and Watchers.So are the Fallen Angels and their descendants, down through the line of the Anakim and Cain, really with us today and if so how do we recognise them? I would suggest like the early church fathers that they are. And like any rotten tree, we can judge them by their fruit.

They have no remorse nor regret for their evil ways and malevolent conduct, as the way to forgiveness was barred them an eternity since. They have no pity for their victims, slaughtered in their millions in wars of aggression few except they and their blood-kin, understand the purpose of. Being so filled with evil, they are unable to respond to the cries of mankind begging for them to stop creating terrible weapons of mass destruction. Nor do they allow any worthwhile redress to all those whose money they have misappropriated in the inner sanctums of International Banking Houses. Instead, they take our gold, and give in return only worthless inflated Fiat currency; pieces of paper in exchange for our toil and labour.By their words and their deeds, the Fallen Angels and their kind have been eroding our planet for a very long time, along with our civilisation, our religion, our hearts and our souls. Like the Giants of Genesis, their appetites are insatiable and voracious.As I said at the very beginning of Part One, I do not believe that my fellow men and women are capable in themselves of such rancorous evil and malevolence. Only Satan himself, his embodied Nephilim[12], the Watchers and their offspring, could have masterminded such a complex, interwoven and diabolically cunning scheme to subjugate humankind to their total domination.These Fallen Angels and their kin, relatively few in number as they are, want us to believe that they are like us, for it is in their anonymity that their strength lies. They masquerade as the children of Adam, but that they are not! They are the very origin of our despair. They are the murderers, the torturers, the tormentors. They are the ones who waged ceaseless wars of conquest, and committed unimaginable atrocities. They are those who sent men, women and children to the concentration camps of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, and they are still with us today, wielding more power than ever before, conducting false flag operations against those who mistakenly consider them as protectors.It is they who are behind the slaughter in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it is them behind the manipulated global financial crisis.Still, they heap the guilt for their crimes against humanity, upon specific races or nations, by appearing to be Italian or German, Jew or Japanese, black or white, Russian or American, thereby escaping human justice, but surely not the divine retribution due them. Using their divide and conquer strategy, they set brother against brother, wives against husbands, children against parents, and then when they are ready, they will unleash their final global holocaust. This has been the deadly game they have played against mankind since the beginning of time.But now, as their conspiracy reaches it's conclusion, they are ever more forced to raise their heads above the ramparts, and more and more people are beginning to recognise them. It really isn't that difficult. Just apply Cui Bono or who benefits,to world events and the clouds of confusion lift quickly enough.

And so to identifying then.

The Illuminati:

The Illuminati,is the name given to those individuals and secret organizations who working together, and apart, continue to this day, to do the work of Lucifer, whom they see as their ancient ancestor. The order's existence can be traced back to Babylon, in the sixth century BC, and coincided with the advent of the Jewish heresy of the Kabbalah. They believe themselves the descended ones of the Satanic Bloodline of Lucifer and the Fallen Angels, continued through the line of Cain and the Anakim, who they say taught them the Ancient Mysteries,which they have been hoarding down through the centuries, passing on the knowledge from generation to generation.The Book of Enoch tells is that it is these Fallen Ones, who first introduced humanity to the occult arts, including astrology, magic and alchemy. This period in history is believed by occultists to accord with the lost continent of Atlantis. Illuminati Mythology, much of which conforms to the Secret Doctrine of Madam Helena P. Blavatsky [9]maintains that the race produced by the intermixing of the Fallen Angels and humans is the Aryans.According to Kabbalistic interpretation, the entire line of Jewish kings were descended from Jacob's son Judah and his wife Bath-Shua, a Canaanite woman. They were the ancestors of King David and his Royal line. King Solomon, to whom much of Kabbalistic tradition is attributed, was the son of David by Bathsheba, a Hittite woman, and the Hittite's were yet another of the Canaanite peoples believed to be derived from the Anakim. Therefore, according to Kabbalistic interpretation, although the Messiah is to be a descendant of the royal line of David, being the Son of David,he is also descended from the Satanic lineage of the Fallen Angels.

The Unholy Blood And The Unholy Grail: Tracing Cain.

The books The Holy Blood And The Holy Grail and more recently, the Da'vinci Code, have popularised the idea that what has become known as the Grail Bloodline is sacred because it came from Christ, and that this most important of the Illuminati bloodlines, was derived originally from the union of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. However, the likelihood of this possibility is slim to none, as the core doctrines of this lineage are based on Gnostic principals. BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Worldwide audience will be able to watch the longest solar eclipse in China in this century through TV, Internet and mobile phones on July 22, said the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC) here Friday. Four stations for live broadcasting will be set up in Chongqing, Wuhan, Hangzhou and Shanghai cities, where the total eclipse can be observed, said Hao Jinxin, NAOC deputy director. Six stations will be set up in Beijing, Kunming, Urumqi, Taipei and Hong Kong where partial eclipse can be seen, he said. Video programs from these stations will be sent through headquarters in Beijing to TV stations, websites and service providers of mobile phones for free, he said.

Broadcasting will last from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on July 22.

The broadcasting project was sponsored by NAOC, Microsoft Research Asia, CAS Computer Network Information Center and Shanghai Astronomical Observatory. Oh, I remember, the Bible, the scary part. But anyway, that would lead to a global government.Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is globetrotting in an attempt to pump up confidence in our dollar. I'm sure Saudi Arabia will believe that tomorrow when he arrives just like the Chinese did when he said that to the Chinese students and they all laughed.

Stephen, I thought of you this morning, when I was going through all the stuff that had to happen. And I thought, you know, Stephen is going to be able to relate because you and I sat at dinner a few years ago and went, there are no way these clowns will do these things. And they are all happening now. And this is crazy town. Get off the dollar and have a global currency. But I think it's going to happen.STEPHEN MOORE, SENIOR ECONOMIC WRITER, WALL STREET JOURNAL: Yes, when you started first talking about this a couple of years ago when we first met, Glenn, I thought you were into the black helicopters and the meteor shower crowd.But you know what? As you look at what has happened over the last three months, it isn't so crazy anymore. It's pretty scary. It is not just the global currency. Look at all the money that we're putting into these global organizations...BECK: IMF? MOORE: ...like the IMF, the World Bank, huge amounts of funding for the United Nations, which has always wanted a world governance.

And then, the other piece to this puzzle, two pieces to the puzzle, Glenn, are the Kyoto Treaty, the Law of the Sea Treaty, and of course, what the Congress passed just two weeks ago, which is the cap-and- trade bill, which basically, to make that work, requires a kind of world governance of all energy use.BECK: Let me go — I'm going to come back to the dollar here for a second.MOORE: OK.BECK: But I want to go to where you were talking about and cap-and-trade. Here is what Al Gore said last week — but we were all fascinated by other things that nobody really paid attention to this. This is what he said in London. He said, I bring you good news from America,and listen to what the good news is:FORMER VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE: It is the awareness itself that will drive the change. And one of the ways that will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements.BECK: OK. Then, we have Chirac from 2000 talking about the Kyoto protocol. He said, This is the first component of an authentic global governance. We have the E.U. environmental minister on Kyoto. He said,This is about the economy, about leveling the playing field for big businesses worldwide.Stephen, I have to tell you, there are times that I feel nuts for even thinking this, but you've got to call a spade a spade: Sometimes, I think the people in our government are intentionally trying to trap us into this global government, because it's insane how they're thrashing our dollar.MOORE: Yes. The only way this works is if you have global governance, where you have a global regulator and global taxer to police every activity of the economy in every corner of the globe. The topic of this article is the answer to the following question: what happens in a stock market crash? There is sort of a general consensus among the public that the stock market is a frightening thing. It is going to happen eventually. The market simply cannot withstand and support constant overwhelming growth.However, there are at times a stock market downturn because of a specific situation. It can be an economic situation, a political situation, a social situation, because the market is based on a number of things that are usually not measurable mathematically or scientifically. Let's take an example: Enron. Enron was a massively huge scandal that occurred in 2002. You would think that the Enron scandal would only affect Enron stock. However, this is wrong. The confidence of all investors in any company and its practices and its future viability was shaken, and the stock market experienced a serious downturn. Another recent example is what happened to the market after the terrorist attacks in 2001. The confidence of investors, and the public, was shaken in the entire fabric of society. Investments took a downturn.The technical meaning of a stock market crash is that the value of the stocks in the market drops incredibly all across the market. Then investors automatically panic. Because of the panic, more and more people sell their stocks. People don't think sensibly-they don't hold on to their stocks-and everybody rushes to jump off the boat and save themselves.The people involved in a stock market crash are the shareholders who panic and cannot have enough self discipline to hold onto their stocks. They also speculate, driving down prices. Companies also don't react well to stock market crashes, because they worry about losing even more money, so they stop spending, leading to an even worse economic situation. A stock market crash can begin as simply being the result of natural trends in the market, but then the problem is that people panic, whether it is the shareholder or the company itself or the analysts. Climbing into his Volvo, outfitted with a Matrics antenna and a Motorola reader he'd bought on eBay for $190, Chris Paget cruised the streets of San Francisco with this objective: To read the identity cards of strangers, wirelessly, without ever leaving his car.It took him 20 minutes to strike hacker's gold.Zipping past Fisherman's Wharf, his scanner detected, then downloaded to his laptop, the unique serial numbers of two pedestrians' electronic U.S. passport cards embedded with radio frequency identification, or RFID, tags. Within an hour, he'd skimmed the identifiers of four more of the new, microchipped PASS cards from a distance of 20 feet.Embedding identity documents passports, drivers licenses, and the like with RFID chips is a no-brainer to government officials. Increasingly, they are promoting it as a 21st century application of technology that will help speed border crossings, safeguard credentials against counterfeiters, and keep terrorists from sneaking into the country.But Paget's February experiment demonstrated something privacy advocates had feared for years: That RFID, coupled with other technologies, could make people trackable without their knowledge or consent.He filmed his drive-by heist, and soon his video went viral on the Web, intensifying a debate over a push by government, federal and state, to put tracking technologies in identity documents and over their potential to erode privacy.Putting a traceable RFID in every pocket has the potential to make everybody a blip on someone's radar screen, critics say, and to redefine Orwellian government snooping for the digital age.

Little Brother,some are already calling it even though elements of the global surveillance web they warn against exist only on drawing boards, neither available nor approved for use.But with advances in tracking technologies coming at an ever-faster rate, critics say, it won't be long before governments could be able to identify and track anyone in real time, 24-7, from a cafe in Paris to the shores of California.The key to getting such a system to work, these opponents say, is making sure everyone carries an RFID tag linked to a biometric data file.On June 1, it became mandatory for Americans entering the United States by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean to present identity documents embedded with RFID tags, though conventional passports remain valid until they expire.Among new options are the chipped e-passport, and the new, electronic PASS card credit-card sized, with the bearer's digital photograph and a chip that can be scanned through a pocket, backpack or purse from 30 feet.Alternatively, travelers can use enhanced driver's licenses embedded with RFID tags now being issued in some border states: Washington, Vermont, Michigan and New York. Texas and Arizona have entered into agreements with the federal government to offer chipped licenses, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recommended expansion to non-border states. Kansas and Florida officials have received DHS briefings on the licenses, agency records show.The purpose of using RFID is not to identify people, says Mary Ellen Callahan, the chief privacy officer at Homeland Security, but rather to verify that the identification document holds valid information about you.Likewise, U.S. border agents are pinging databases only to confirm that licenses aren't counterfeited. They're not pulling up your speeding tickets,she says, or looking at personal information beyond what is on a passport.

The change is largely about speed and convenience, she says. An RFID document that doubles as a U.S. travel credential only makes it easier to pull the right record fast enough, to make sure that the border flows, and is operational even though a 2005 Government Accountability Office report found that governmentRFID readers often failed to detect travelers' tags.Such assurances don't persuade those who liken RFID-embedded documents to barcodes with antennas and contend they create risks to privacy that far outweigh the technology's heralded benefits. They warn it will actually enable identity thieves, stalkers and other criminals to commit contactless crimes against victims who won't immediately know they've been violated.Neville Pattinson, vice president for government affairs at Gemalto, Inc., a major supplier of microchipped cards, is no RFID basher. He's a board member of the Smart Card Alliance, an RFID industry group, and is serving on the Department of Homeland Security's Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee.Still, Pattinson has sharply criticized the RFIDs in U.S. driver's licenses and passport cards. In a 2007 article for the Privacy Advisor, a newsletter for privacy professionals, he called them vulnerable to attacks from hackers, identity thieves and possibly even terrorists.
RFID, he wrote, has a fundamental flaw: Each chip is built to faithfully transmit its unique identifier in the clear, exposing the tag number to interception during the wireless communication.Once a tag number is intercepted, it is relatively easy to directly associate it with an individual,he says. If this is done, then it is possible to make an entire set of movements posing as somebody else without that person's knowledge.Echoing these concerns were the AeA the lobbying association for technology firms the Smart Card Alliance, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Business Travel Coalition, and the Association of Corporate Travel Executives.Meanwhile, Homeland Security has been promoting broad use of RFID even though its own advisory committee on data integrity and privacy warned that radio-tagged IDs have the potential to allow widespread surveillance of individuals without their knowledge or consent.

In its 2006 draft report, the committee concluded that RFID increases risks to personal privacy and security, with no commensurate benefit for performance or national security, and recommended that RFID be disfavored for identifying and tracking human beings.For now, chipped PASS cards and enhanced driver's licenses are optional and not yet widely deployed in the United States. To date, roughly 192,000 EDLs have been issued in Washington, Vermont, Michigan and New York.But as more Americans carry them you can bet that long-range tracking of people on a large scale will rise exponentially,says Paget, a self-described ethical hacker who works as an Internet security consultant.Could RFID numbers eventually become de facto identifiers of Americans, like the Social Security number? Such a day is not far off, warns Katherine Albrecht, a privacy advocate and co-author of Spychips, a book that is sharply critical of the use of RFID in consumer items and official ID documents.

There's a reason you don't wear your Social Security number across your T-shirt, Albrecht says, and beaming out your new, national RFID number in a 30-foot radius would be far worse.There are no federal laws against the surreptitious skimming of Americans' RFID numbers, so it won't be long before people seek to profit from this, says Bruce Schneier, an author and chief security officer at BT, the British telecommunications operator.Data brokers that compile computer dossiers on millions of individuals from public records, credit applications and other sources will certainly maintain databases of RFID numbers and associated people,he says.They'd do a disservice to their stockholders if they didn't.But Gigi Zenk, a spokeswoman for the Washington state Department of Licensing, says Americans aren't that concerned about the RFID, particularly in this day and age when there are a lot of other ways toaccess personal information on people.Tracking an individual is much easier through a cell phone, or a satellite tag embedded in a car, she says. An RFID that contains no private information, just a randomly assigned number, is probably one of the least things to be concerned about, frankly.Still, even some ardent RFID supporters recognize that these next-generation RFID cards raise prickly questions.Mark Roberti, editor of RFID Journal, an industry newsletter, recently acknowledged that as the use of RFID in official documents grows, the potential for abuse increases.A government could do this, for instance, to track opponents, he wrote in an opinion piece discussing Paget's cloning experiment. To date, this type of abuse has not occurred, but it could if governments fail to take privacy issues seriously.Imagine this: Sensors triggered by radio waves instructing cameras to zero in on people carrying RFID, unblinkingly tracking their movements.

Unbelievable? Intrusive? Outrageous?

Actually, it happens every day and makes people smile at the Alton Towers amusement park in Britain, which videotapes visitors who agree to wear RFID bracelets as they move about the facility, then sells the footage as a keepsake.This application shows how the technology can be used effortlessly and benignly. But critics, noting it can also be abused, say federal authorities in the United States didn't do enough from the start to address that risk.The first U.S. identity document to be embedded with RFID was the e-passport.In the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks and the finding that some of the terrorists entered the United States using phony passports the State Department proposed mandating that Americans and foreign visitors carry enhanced passport booklets, with microchips embedded in the covers.The chips, it announced, would store the holder's information from the data page, a biometric version of the bearer's photo, and receive special coding to prevent data from being altered.In February 2005, when the State Department asked for public comment, it got an outcry: Of the 2,335 comments received, 98.5 percent were negative, with 86 percent expressing security or privacy concerns, the department reported in an October 2005 notice in the Federal Register.Identity theft was of grave concern,it stated, adding that others expressed fears that the U.S. Government or other governments would use the chip to track and censor, intimidate or otherwise control or harm them.It also noted that many Americans expressed worries that the information could be read at distances in excess of 10 feet.

Those concerned citizens, it turns out, had cause.

According to department records obtained by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, under a Freedom of Information Act request and reviewed by the AP, discussion about security concerns with the e-passport occurred as early as January 2003 but tests weren't ordered until the department began receiving public criticism two years later.When the AP asked when testing was initiated, the State Department said only that a battery of durability and electromagnetic tests were performed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, along with tests to measure the ability of data on electronic passports to be surreptitiously skimmed or for communications with the chip reader to be eavesdropped,testing which led to additional privacy controls being placed on U.S. electronic passports.Indeed, in 2005, the department incorporated metallic fibers into the e-passport's front cover, since metal can reduce the range at which RFID can be read. Personal information in the chips was encrypted and a cryptographic key added, which required inspectors to optically scan the e-passport first for the chip to communicate wirelessly.The department also announced it would test e-passports with select employees, before giving them to the public. We wouldn't be issuing the passports to ourselves if we didn't think they're secure,said Frank Moss, deputy assistant Secretary of State for passport services, in a CNN interview.

But what of Americans' concerns about the e-passport's read range?

In its October 2005 Federal Register notice, the State Department reassured Americans that the e-passport's chip the ISO 14443 tag would emit radio waves only within a 4-inch radius, making it tougher to hack.Technologists in Israel and England, however, soon found otherwise. In May 2006, at the University of Tel Aviv, researchers cobbled together $110 worth of parts from hobbyists kits and directly skimmed an encrypted tag from several feet away. At the University of Cambridge, a student showed that a transmission between an e-passport and a legitimate reader could be intercepted from 160 feet.The State Department, according to its own records obtained under FOIA, was aware of the problem months before its Federal Register notice and more than a year before the e-passport was rolled out in August 2006.Do not claim that these chips can only be read at a distance of 10 cm (4 inches),Moss wrote in an April 22, 2005, e-mail to Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. That really has been proven to be wrong.The chips could be skimmed from a yard away, he added all a hacker would need to read e-passport numbers, say, in an elevator or on a subway.Other red flags went up. In February 2006, an encrypted Dutch e-passport was hacked on national television, with researchers gaining access to the document's digital photograph, fingerprint and personal data. Then British e-passports were hacked using a $500 reader and software written in less than 48 hours.The State Department countered by saying European e-passports weren't as safe as their American counterparts because they lacked the cryptographic key and the anti-skimming cover.

But recent studies have shown that more powerful readers can penetrate even the metal sheathing in the U.S. e-passport's cover.John Brennan, a senior policy adviser at the State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs, concedes it may be possible for a reader to overpower the e-passport's protective shield from a distance.However, he adds, you could not do this in any large-scale, concerted fashion without putting a bunch of infrastructure in place to make it happen. The practical vulnerabilities may be far less than some of the theoretical scenarios that people have put out there.That thinking is flawed, says Lee Tien, a senior attorney and surveillance expert with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which opposes RFID in identity documents.It won't take a massive government project to build reader networks around the country, he says: They will grow organically, for commercial purposes, from convention centers to shopping malls, sports stadiums to college campuses. Federal agencies and law enforcement wouldn't have to control those networks; they already buy information about individuals from commercial data brokers.And remember,Tien adds,technology always gets better .With questions swirling around the e-passport's security, why then did the government roll out more RFID-tagged documents the PASS card and enhanced driver's license, which provide less protection against hackers?

The RFIDs in enhanced driver's licenses and PASS cards are nearly as slim as paper. Each contains a silicon computer chip attached to a wire antenna, which transmits a unique identifier via radio waves when awakened by an electromagnetic reader.The technology they use is designed to track products through the supply chain. These chips, known as EPCglobal Gen 2, have no encryption, and minmal data protection features. They are intended to release their data to any inquiring Gen 2 reader within a 30-foot radius.This might be appropriate when a supplier is tracking a shipment of toilet paper or dog food; but when personal information is at stake, privacy advocates ask: Is long-range readability truly desirable? The departments of State and Homeland Security say remotely readable ID cards transmit only RFID numbers that correspond to records stored in government databases, which they say are secure. Even if a hacker were to copy an RFID number onto a blank tag and place it into a counterfeit ID, they say, the forger's face still wouldn't match the true cardholder's photo in the database, rendering it useless.Still, computer experts such as Schneier say government databases can be hacked. Others worry about a day when hackers might deploy readers at chokepoints, such as checkout lines, skim RFID numbers from people's driver's licenses, then pair those numbers to personal data skimmed from chipped credit cards (though credit cards are harder to skim). They imagine stalkers using skimmed RFID numbers to track their targets' comings and goings. They fear government agents will compile chip numbers at peace rallies, mosques or gun shows, simply by strolling through a crowd with a reader.Others worry more about the linking of chips with other identification methods, including biometric technologies, such as facial recognition.The International Civil Aviation Organization, the U.N. agency that sets global standards for passports, now calls for facial recognition in all scannable e-passports.Should biometric technologies be coupled with RFID, governments will have, for the first time in history, the means to identify, monitor and track citizens anywhere in the world in real time,says Mark Lerner, spokesman for the Constitutional Alliance, a network of nonprofit groups, lawmakers and citizens opposed to remotely readable identity and travel documents.

Implausible?

For now, perhaps. Radio tags in EDLs and passport cards can't be scanned miles away.

But scientists are working on technologies that might enable a satellite or a cell tower to scan a chip's contents. Critics also note advances in the sharpness of closed-circuit cameras, and point out they're increasingly ubiquitous. And more fingerprints, iris scans and digitized facial images are being stored in government databases. The FBI has announced plans to assemble the world's largest biometric database, nicknamed Next Generation Identification.RFID's role is to make the collection and transmission of people's biometric data quick, easy and nonintrusive, says Lerner.Think of it as the thread that ties together the surveillance package.

Clothing is one of the groups of products showing the smallest price variation among EU member states. The United Kingdom (83 per cent of the average) was cheapest and Finland (123 per cent of the average) was most expensive for clothing.Consumer electronics is another group of products where prices differed less among member states. The lowest prices for these products were found in the United Kingdom (86 per cent of the average) and the highest in Malta (126 per cent).Excluding Denmark, price differences among member states were also limited for personal transport equipment. The Bush administration and Congress discussed the possibility of a breakdown in law and order and the logistics of feeding US citizens if commerce and banking collapsed as a result of last autumn's financial panic, it was disclosed yesterday.Making his first appearance on Capitol Hill since leaving office, the former Treasury secretary Hank Paulson said it was important at the time not to reveal the extent of officials' concerns, for fear it would "terrify the American people and lead to an even bigger problem.Mr Paulson testified to the House Oversight Committee on the Bush administration's unpopular $700bn (£426bn) bailout of Wall Street, which was triggered by the failure of Lehman Brothers last September. In a clear departure from the historical norm, the White House is not cheering the return of huge profits to Wall Street. On the contrary, the recent windfalls at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, and the promise of giant year-end paydays for banking executives and traders, has caused a bit of consternation in the West Wing, coming as it does so soon after the taxpayer bailouts saved the entire financial system from total collapse.If I were a Wall Street firm, I would perhaps be cognizant of the fact that the financial regulatory-reform process is only beginning in Congress,warns a senior White House official, speaking about the political problems that huge paydays at Wall Street firms could create later this year, when new laws to regulate the industry will be written on Capitol Hill. Officials have also begun to worry aloud whether the Wall Street firms learned anything from the catastrophic financial crisis that was largely of their making or whether they are now returning to the old business of making short-term profits that create long-term risks.On July 14, Goldman Sachs posted second-quarter profits of $3.44 billion, more than the company made in all of 2008 and about on par with the precrisis gilded age, while announcing that it had set aside $11.4 billion this year to compensate workers, or $386,489 per employee. The huge profits were hailed on Wall Street as another sign that the crisis might be ending. On July 15, the Dow Jones industrial average jumped 3.1%, and other banking giants are expected to issue their own similarly glowing reports. On July 16, JPMorgan announced that it had earned $2.7 billion in the second quarter.The good news for traders has created two distinct concerns for President Obama's advisers. The first problem is political. For much of the year, populist revulsion at Wall Street greed has been palpable. Obama, who prides himself on his cool countenance, has repeatedly channeled this fury, flashing anger and frustration at the logic of financial titans, who continued to justify huge paydays even as their banks begged financial lifelines from the U.S. taxpayer.That is the height of irresponsibility, the President said in January, after a report emerged of large 2008 bonuses on Wall Street.It is shameful.

But the President has thus far resisted calls for a heavy government hand in limiting financial paydays, aside from certain limits on senior executives at firms that have not paid back some taxpayer funds and a number of proposals for regulators to develop new ways of better tying compensation to long-term risks. That leaves the White House vulnerable in the coming months. If Wall Street decides to cash in on its recent winnings despite the public rhetoric of the Administration, the contrast with the nation's still growing unemployment rate couldn't be starker.It's just got to feel wrong to a lot of people,says Douglas Elliott, a fellow at the Brookings Institution, speaking of the Goldman compensation announcement.It seems to me a political mistake.
The eye-popping Goldman profits also create a policy problem for lawmakers, including the President, as they try to reform the financial system to ensure that history does not repeat itself. At issue is not just the safeguards that traders are using to ensure that another crisis of confidence doesn't occur, but whether traders on Wall Street are taking advantage of the public backstop against systemic failure to create personal profits.We want financial systems to be healthy,says Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary. But, he adds,the President continues to have concerns that compensation will be based on risky behavior instead of performance.Though both Goldman and JPMorgan have paid back their infusion of Treasury dollars, the recent crisis has made clear to investors that the firms are considered by U.S. policymakers to be too big to fail.The crisis has also created a premium for those firms willing to take on more risk in trades. According to company data, Goldman - which converted to a commercial bank at the height of the crisis in order to gain easier access to cheaper government credit - has significantly reduced its leverage ratio, which measures how much money it borrows, from 27.9 at the beginning of 2008 to 14.2 today. At the same time, Goldman has increased the amount of money it is risking on a day-to-day basis, and the number of competitors it faces in the marketplace has significantly shrunk, with onetime stalwarts like Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers becoming casualties of the crisis.The President's financial reforms, which were sent to Congress earlier this summer, have yet to be acted upon by the banking committees in the House and Senate, and White House officials do not expect concrete legislative action until late this year at the earliest. That means that both the White House and Congress can expect many more months of needing to explain why it is O.K. for Wall Street to be thriving while the rest of the country, and much of the world, is suffering. As Gibbs explained on July 15, when asked about the big Wall Street paydays,It is something that continues to be a great concern.

NEW YORK – Investors are betting that the stock market has restarted its spring rally.

Stocks ended little changed Friday but held onto an enormous gain for the week. Investors are looking to another flood of corporate earnings reports next week to provide more signs that the economy is healing.The Dow Jones industrials and the Standard & Poor's 500 index posted their best weekly performance since early March, when the market's spring rally began. Major stock indexes rose about 7 percent for the week.The earnings are better than expected and the economic news is not horrifically bad, said Jeff Buetow, managing partner at Innealta Portfolio Advisors. I think people want the market to go up.Solid results from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Intel Corp. spurred buying early in the week. But not all the results Friday were strong, so the market barely budged.Bank of America Corp. and Citigroup Inc. became the latest banks to report big profits but also weakness in their loan portfolios. General Electric Co. beat earnings forecasts, but its revenue came up short.The important thing is these earnings results, while not all entirely positive, are beginning to show some signs of stabilization,said Tom Kersting, an analyst at Edward Jones.The week's upward move has, at least for now, halted a slide that began in mid-June as investors worried the 40 percent jump in stocks this spring was overdone. Analysts said it was a healthy sign that the market was taking a breather on Friday.

I think it's very constructive that we're taking a pause here and not heading back down,said Richard Sparks, senior equities analyst at Schaeffer's Investment Research.
Sparks said it's too early to say whether this week will be representative of the rest of earnings season. Next week's large batch of reports includes Dow components Caterpillar Inc., DuPont and Merck & Co.The Dow Jones industrials rose 32.12, or 0.4 percent, to 8,743.94. The blue chips rose 7.3 percent for the week, the first weekly gain after a month of losses. It was the best percentage gain since the week ended March 13 and the 597-point jump was the biggest point gain since late November.On Friday, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 0.36, or less than 0.1 percent, to 940.38, while the Nasdaq composite index rose 1.58, or 0.1 percent, to 1,886.61.The number of stocks that fell narrowly outpaced those that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated trading volume came to 5 billion shares, flat with Thursday.Financial stocks mostly fell, weighing on the broader market. Investors have been encouraged by strong profits from large banks, but there are still signs that the recession's grip hasn't eased as much as hoped, such as higher loan defaults.

BofA, which has struggled more than some of its peers from loan losses, beat Wall Street estimates just as Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase & Co. did earlier in the week. However its profit fell from a year earlier as losses from delinquent loans continued to climb. BofA fell 28 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $12.89.Citigroup, another troubled bank, surprised Wall Street with a $3 billion profit instead of the big loss analysts had expected, but results were boosted by the sale of a majority stake in its Smith Barney brokerage. Its shares fell a penny to $3.02.One exception was CIT Group Inc., whose shares jumped 29 cents to 70 cents, on speculation that the troubled lender might be able to avoid bankruptcy. Construction of new homes and apartments jumped 3.6 percent in June to the highest level in seven months, beating economists' estimates. But the market's response to Goldman's actual report the following day was somewhat subdued amid mixed economic data. Strong earnings and an upbeat forecast from Intel pulled more investors into the market on Wednesday, and hope for more good earnings from the technology sector stirred buying again on Thursday.Bond prices fell. Russian Bulava missile test fails again,Another test of Russia's intercontinental Bulava missile has failed, the defence ministry said on Thursday, with the missile blowing up in mid-flight, following a similar failed test in December. Published: 11:02PM BST 16 Jul 2009

Diplomats: Iran has means to test bomb in 6 months

VIENNA — Diplomats say Iran is blocking U.N. nuclear agency attempts to upgrade monitoring of its atomic activities and now has the means to test a weapon within six months.The diplomats emphasize there are no indications of plans for such a nuclear test. They told the AP Friday it was unlikely Iran would risk heightened confrontation with the West — and chances of Israeli attack — with such a course.

But one said Iran has the capacity, if not the intention, to set off a test explosion in six months. TEHRAN, Iran – In a sign of endurance for Iran's protest movement, demonstrators clashed with police Friday as one of the nation's most powerful clerics challenged the supreme leader during Muslim prayers, saying country was in crisis in the wake of a disputed election.The turnout of tens of thousands of worshippers for former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's sermon at Tehran University and the battles with police outside represented the biggest opposition show of strength in weeks. Protesters faced fierce government suppression and hundreds were arrested following the disputed June 12 presidential election.Outside the university, protests grew from several hundred before the sermon to thousands afterward as worshippers joined in, chanting, death to the dictator,a reference to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Protesters were confronted by riot police and a menacing line of pro-government Basiji militiamen on motorcycles, who charged with batons. Plainclothes Basijis fired volleys of tear gas, and young protesters with green bandanas over their faces kicked the canisters across the pavement. Some set a bonfire in the street and waved their hands in victory signs. Dozens were arrested, taken away in trucks, witnesses said.

Protests, which flared following the election, had been stifled in recent weeks. The sometimes tearful sermon by Rafsanjani could be a significant boost to the movement's staying power. It was an open challenge to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, aired live on nationwide radio from one of the country's most potent political stages. By openly showing the divisions in the leadership, it punched a hole in efforts by Khamenei and hard-line clerics to end the controversy over Ahmadinejad's re-election.Worshippers chanted azadi, azadi,Persian for freedom,during Rafsanjani's sermon, his first since the election. In a few days, the Israeli anti-missile Arrow system will face the first real test, weather permitting, of its ability to knock out an Iranian Shehab-3 or Sejil II ballistic missile at the outset of its flight toward Israel, DEBKAfile's military sources report. The test will take place off central California's Pacific coast.

Lieut. Gen. Patrick O'Reilly, director of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, said Tuesday, July 14: The test will allow Israel to measure its advanced Arrow 3 system against a target with a range of more than 620 miles (1,000 km), too long for previous Arrow test sites in the eastern Mediterranean.The test will try and engage a target not only upwards of 1,000 km distant but close to its launch.Until now, our military sources report, Arrow tests have been restricted by the small area of the Mediterranean Sea, the heavy air and maritime traffic in and above it, and the location of the Israeli missile launch site at Palmahim, from which missile flight westward is limited to a few hundred kilometers and disallowed in any other direction.

None of its 16 test flights has exercised the full potential of the Arrow's operational range for intercepting the flight path of possible Iranian missile attack on Israel.For this reason, the Israeli missile command described past tests as 100 percent successful, while the Americans rated their success 90 percent.The Pacific test will be launched from a point between Point Mugu and Santa Barbara north-west of Los Angeles. It will test the Arrow in uninterrupted flight against a target in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The closest land to the site is Japan. According to our military sources, this third Arrow exercise from a US site will also examine US-Israeli cooperation in missile interception in the event of an Iranian response to a possible Israeli strike at Iran's nuclear facilities or an Iranian pre-emptive missile attack on Israel. General O'Reilly announced that this would be the first full test of the ability of the American and Israeli intercept systems to work together and provides us the opportunity to have the Patriot system, the THAAD system and the Aegis system all interacting with the Arrow system so that we're demonstrating full interoperability as we execute this test.The significance of this disclosure is that for the first time, the joint operational capabilities of the Israel-based missile intercept systems and the American missile-intercept systems stationed in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf will be tested.

The exercise will also examine cooperation between the Israeli anti-aircraft defenses and the American satellites' early warning devices for missile launches. The Israeli and US arrays are connected through the sophisticated FBX-T radar station positioned at Israel's Nevatim airbase in the Negev, which is operated by soldiers and technicians belonging to EUCOM, the US European theater command.
