Laughter at Trump joins a long line of jaw-dropping UN moments-From Khrushchev’s shoe-banging to Ahmadinejad’s conspiracy theories about 9/11, halls of General Assembly have seen world leaders pull more than a few shocking stunts-By AP-TOI-SEP 26,18

The laughter was sudden, loud and unexpected. It came at the expense of the US president as he addressed global leaders at the United Nations, and it was witnessed by an audience of tens of millions viewing immediate clips online of an awkward moment for Donald Trump. The laughter followed Trump’s boasts that “in less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.”Clearly startled by the laughter, he joked that it wasn’t the reaction he expected.Later, as he left the UN grounds, he told reporters that he had meant to be funny.“Oh it was great, well, that was meant to get some laughter, so it was great,” he said.Nonetheless, it was a jaw-dropping moment in the hallowed hall where war and peace, prosperity and poverty, famine and plenty have been passionately discussed over the decades.A look at some other moments that shocked at the General Assembly.KHRUSHCHEV’S SHOE-Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev did more than raise a few eyebrows in 1960 as the Cold War raged when he pounded his shoe on a desk in fury. It happened after the head of a delegation from the Philippines criticized Moscow for restricting the freedom of Eastern Europeans. His granddaughter later wrote that he was wearing new shoes that were tight, so he took them off while sitting. She and his interpreter said that when Khrushchev stood up, he pounded the table so hard with his fists that his watch fell off, and when he went to retrieve it, he saw the shoe and switched to banging that instead. The Berlin Wall went up the next year.ARAFAT’S OLIVE BRANCH AND GUN-In 1974, Yasser Arafat was invited to represent the Palestine Liberation Organization and his people before the world body, where he made it clear he was ready to use any means for statehood. He spoke of oppressed people and liberation the world over. Wearing his trademark Palestinian keffiyeh scarf, he concluded with a quote: “Today I have come bearing an olive branch and a freedom fighter’s gun. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand.”CASTRO’S LONG SPEECHES-Cuban leader Fidel Castro gave many speeches at the UN, railing at those he characterized as his country’s capitalist oppressors. The UN asks leaders to keep their speeches brief. But that was never for Castro: his General Assembly address in 1960 was timed at 4 1/2 hours. Clad in his trademark green military fatigues, Castro said the revolution he led 20 months earlier had ended the country’s status as “a colony of the United States,” but the US still believed it had “the right to promote and encourage subversion in our country.” In the rambling speech, Castro defended Cuba’s links to the Soviet Union, expressed serious concern that America’s “imperialist government” might attack Cuba, and called US President John F. Kennedy “an illiterate and ignorant millionaire.” Castro also complained of undergoing “degrading and humiliating treatment” in New York, including being evicted from his hotel.GADHAFI GOES FREE FORM-Libya’s Moammar Gadhafi also had a predilection for long, rambling monologues in his speeches at the world body. His 2009 address, clocked in at 1 hour, 40 minutes. Dressed in flowing brown Bedouin robes and a black beret, he chastised the United Nations for failing to prevent dozens of wars, suggested that those who caused “mass murder” in Iraq be tried, and defended the Taliban’s right to establish an Islamic emirate. At one point, Gadhafi waved a copy of the UN Charter and appeared to tear it, saying he did not recognize the document’s authority. Later that day, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the assembly: “I stand here to reaffirm the United Nations Charter, not to tear it up.”CHAVEZ AND THE DEVIL-The late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez drew gasps at the UN in 2006 when he said of US President George W. Bush, “Yesterday, the devil came here,” adding that the podium “still smells of sulfur.” The US was at the time heavily embroiled in the Iraq War, which Chavez had vehemently opposed.AHMADINEJAD AND 9/11-Iran’s hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad prompted disgusted walkouts from the assembly in 2010 when he questioned whether the September 11 attacks were staged. He suggested an inside job, arguing that only an explosion, not planes, could have brought down the twin towers. His visits to New York prompted fury among locals, but delighted the hard-line wing in Iran.BIBI AND THE BOMB-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking to the General Assembly about Iran’s nuclear program on Sept. 27, 2012, held up a large, cartoonish diagram of a bomb. The bomb was divided into sections marking 70 percent and 90 percent. Netanyahu said that Iran was 70 percent of the way to enriching uranium for a nuclear weapon and urged the world to draw a clear “red line” and stop the country’s nuclear program. He then drew a red line under 90 percent, asserting that the Iranians would be that far along by mid-2013 and must not be allowed to get there. Netanyahu warned that “nothing could imperil the world more than a nuclear-armed Iran” and insisted that “red lines” prevent wars.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

Trump dismisses ‘drunk’ Kavanaugh accuser as initial Senate vote scheduled-Supreme Court nominee to face judiciary panel on Friday; if approved by committee, must still face a vote by full Senate-By Paul Handley-TOI-SEP 26,18

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President Donald Trump dismissed the latest accuser of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as “drunk” and “messed up” on Tuesday, as Republicans prepared for a potentially explosive hearing over his suitability.Despite the swirling controversy over the nomination, the Senate Judiciary Committee scheduled a preliminary vote for Friday at 9:30 am (1330 GMT). If approved by the panel, Kavanaugh would still face a vote in the full Senate.Taking the political lead in the high-stakes battle over the future of the court, Trump rejected a claim by Deborah Ramirez that Kavanaugh was the person who dropped his pants and thrust his penis in her face at an alcohol-fueled Yale University dorm party about 35 years ago.He said Democratic support for her allegations, as well as those of Christine Blasey Ford, amounted to a “con game” to defeat a person he said was perfectly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court bench.“The second accuser has nothing. She thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not,” Trump told reporters in New York. “She admits that she was drunk. She admits that there are time lapses.”“Thirty-six years ago, nobody ever knew about it or heard about it, and now a new charge comes up and she said it might not be him, and there were gaps and she said she was totally inebriated, and she was all messed up,” Trump said.“The Democrats are playing a con game. They know it’s a con game,” he said. “It’s a shame that you can do this to a person’s life.”Trump’s comments came two days before the Senate Judiciary Committee holds a hearing in which Blasey Ford is expected to detail her allegation that Kavanaugh tried to tear her clothes off in an assault during a party around 1982, when both were students at elite private high schools in Washington.Kavanaugh, who has strongly denied the charge, will separately appear at the hearing. The charge has already delayed what was once though certain approval of his nomination, which is crucial to Republican hopes to turn the court sharply to the right for years to come, with huge implications for law on abortion rights and affirmative action programs. But since Blasey Ford’s charges, one and possibly two more women have come forth with similar allegations of sexual assault or abuse when he was young. On Sunday, The New Yorker published Ramirez’s story, which took place at Yale during 1983-84.On Monday, Michael Avenatti, a lawyer who represents a porn star claiming to have had an affair with Trump, has said he is also representing a third Kavanaugh accuser, whose identity and story he said would be revealed on Wednesday. And two former Yale classmates of Kavanaugh took issue Tuesday with his claims that he did not drink excessively or take part in abusing women during his university years.Republicans said they were determined to push the nomination through the narrowly-divided Senate as soon as a possible, rejecting Democratic calls to freeze the process to let the FBI investigate all of the allegations.“What message will we send right now in 2018 and the Me Too movement if the Senate rushes through this?” asked Democratic Senator Patty Murray. There was no guarantee of full Republican support ahead of the hearing, which could prove to be explosive. At least four Republican senators, including two women who have been outspoken against sexual abuse, have withheld judgment, acknowledging the potential validity of Blasey Ford’s allegation despite the amount of time that has passed and the paucity of hard evidence. There are more challenges for Republicans. With the midterm Congressional election looming in November, the party’s all-male representation on the panel risks appearing disrespectful of Blasey Ford in a way that could turn away women voters. To skirt that challenge, Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said Tuesday that Republicans had recruited an unnamed female lawyer to question Blasey Ford on their behalf.Blasey Ford’s lawyers have yet to say they agree with that move or other conditions Grassley has imposed. But Republicans vowed to push ahead.“We’re looking for the truth here. I don’t think because you happen to be a male you’re disqualified from listening to the evidence and making a decision based upon the evidence,” said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.“I’m confident we’re going to win. I’m confident that he will be confirmed in the very near future.”

Analysis-Why some settler leaders oppose building as a response to terror attacks-There is lingering concern that calls for construction as a tit-for-tat against terrorism — while politically expedient — imply expansion is less legitimate on other days-By Jacob Magid-SEP 27,18

Less than 24 hours after a terror attack took the life of Ari Fuld last week, the mayor of the Efrat settlement — in which the 45-year-old father of four had resided — announced his community’s response.“This morning we get up and charge forward,” Oded Revivi exclaimed in a Facebook post, vowing to develop a disputed hilltop adjacent to his community.“We are heading to Eitam! Not as thieves in the night. But — like Ari — as proud Jews in the light of day. Because this land is ours!”The post, while dramatic in tone, was typical for settler leaders and their supporters in the current government, who often call for extensive expansion beyond the Green Line in response to terrorism targeting the Jewish presence in the West Bank. The hilltop on which the Eitam neighborhood would be constructed, with plans for units that would house thousands of Israelis, is located northeast of Efrat’s current borders. The Peace Now settlement watchdog came out in vehement opposition of the project, arguing that it would represent a serious blow to a potential two-state solution, bisecting the West Bank and preventing territorial contiguity in a future Palestinian state. But while such expansions naturally enjoy unanimous support among settler leaders, there is lingering concern among some regarding the juxtaposition of settlement building and terror attacks.Palestinian violence provides convenient political cover for government attempts to avoid the international outcry that typically accompanies expansions of Israeli presence in the West Bank. However, because the calls for construction are often framed as “punishment” for Palestinian attacks, they seem to imply that building on other days of the year are not as justified.Speaking to The Times of Israel on Sunday, Revivi attempted to disassociate Fuld’s murder from his efforts to build the Eitam neighborhood.“We should be entitled to build all year round without [having to use such events as] justification… and we should never attach building to terror attacks,” he said.Revivi pointed out that building permits for an agricultural farm at Eitam had been approved weeks before the attack and that the intention had been to inhabit the hilltop regardless.A spokesman for the Civil Administration — the Defense Ministry body that authorizes West Bank construction — corroborated Revivi’s account, confirming that no approvals had been granted in the 24 hours since the attack. The mayor’s Facebook post appeared to be an attempt to show resolve in the wake of an attack that targeted one of his town’s residents — even if it went against his own belief that construction should not be linked to terrorism. The interim director of the Yesha settlement umbrella council, Yigal Dilmoni, downplayed the existence of a genuine debate among settler leaders over how construction should be framed. While he recognized that some have raised concern over the matter, Dilmoni rejected the implication that calls for construction in the wake of terror attacks was detrimental to other efforts to expand settlements.“We are constantly building and struggling and pressuring for more construction every day of the year. However, when there is a terror attack, I think that every ordinary citizen and every person who is a Zionist understands that the answer is an equivalent blow [demonstrating] our connection to Israel,” he asserted, while calling for stronger military crackdowns in the wake of attacks.Former Kedumim mayor Daniella Weiss’s views aligned with Dilmoni’s.“It’s not as if anyone is coming out and saying that we should not be calling for construction because blood was just spilled,” said Weiss, who remains active in establishing outposts throughout the West Bank. But one West Bank local council head who spoke on the condition of anonymity explained that the only reason such statements were not being made publicly by settler leaders was the high political price they would pay.“Nobody wants to be the one coming out and saying that we should not be building at any particular moment, but I am always careful to avoid making such public demands of the government after terror attacks, because it sets a dangerous precedent,” the council head said.He said that his fellow settlement mayors are forced to fight for every project, and that “there is concern that those approvals will only come when it is politically convenient.”Tzvi Succot, the director of the far-right Otzma Yehudit group, took a similar tone, asserting that “what will prevent attacks is not construction, but rather strong [military] deterrence.”Succot, an influential member of the northern West Bank settlement of Yitzhar, argued that in making building announcements following terror attacks, “the government is hinting that murder is equivalent to X number of building permits instead of a heavy blow to the enemy.”However, he clarified that there was a difference between how settler leaders and government officials were expected to respond to violence.“That a council head uses a terror attack to get more construction in his town is something I can understand. But when the government does it, that is much more flagrant,” he said, asserting that declarations by ministers should focus on security measures.-Security vs. safety-Settler leaders tend to frame their demands in terms of security when working to garner government support for civil projects — even ones unrelated to housing.Last year, Samaria Regional Council Chairman Yossi Dagan erected a protest tent outside the official residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, calling on the government to transfer hundreds of millions of shekels for the paving of West Bank roads and other infrastructure. While demands for additional highways, street lighting, and better roadside cell reception might more naturally be framed as matters of safety, Dagan chose to present them as matters of national security, tying them to terrorism and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Joining him in the campaign, which included a five-day hunger strike, were representatives of families that lost loved ones in terror attacks over the Green Line.Likely due to the presence of the bereaved families, Dagan managed to enlist the support of more than a dozen right-wing lawmakers and ministers, who paid visits to the bereaved family representatives in the tent, despite the fact that it had been erected in protest of their own government’s policies. After several weeks, the demonstration ended with a document signed by Netanyahu that put in writing a promise from the prime minister of a NIS 800 million ($228 million) infrastructure package that went on to be part of the 2018 budget.Noticeably absent from the protest was the Yesha Council, which chose to work with the government behind closed doors in order to ensure the transfer of the infrastructure funds.Though the Council insisted after the fact that the money was earmarked despite — rather than due to — Dagan’s more combative approach, the headlines implied otherwise: Dagan’s choice to link his demands to terror attacks had won the day.As with construction in the wake of terror attacks, it is easier for settler leaders to garner support for infrastructure improvements when they are tied to terrorism: Security trumps safety.Theoretically, bad cell reception outside of Yitzhar is no different from bad cell reception outside Tel Aviv. But only in one of those communities does the risk of terror attacks place Israelis in a position where they would need reception to reach security forces for help.Still, from a real estate perspective, framing campaigns regarding civil affairs over the Green Line around the issues of security plays into the assumption — to which settler leaders vehemently object — that the West Bank is a dangerous place to live.Succot rejected the notion that such a concern should be taken seriously, arguing that interest among Israelis in moving across the Green Line is only increasing. “If more building permits would be approved, I’m sure there would be many more people coming to move here,” he said. But Dilmoni appeared to be aware of the problems stemming from playing up the importance of the security situation in the West Bank.“When we have to deal with terrorism, we focus on dealing with terrorism, and when we have to deal with [affairs of] every-day life, we focus on everyday life,” he said of the Yesha Council’s approach. While the violent death of an Israeli father while running errands in the mall makes a differentiation between military and civilian affairs over the Green Line more difficult to maintain, such a distinction makes sense given the Yesha Council’s desire to entice more residents. This is especially true if the movement is to realize its goal of bringing the number of settlers in the West Bank from 450,000 to one million.

Brexit, anti-Semitism loom as Corbyn makes pitch for power-With party facing deep divisions, speech to Labour conference not expected to address toxic issue of whether to stay in European Union-By AFP-TOI-SEP 27,18

LIVERPOOL, United Kingdom — Britain’s opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will use a keynote conference speech Wednesday to present himself as the man to lead Britain but faces a daunting task uniting his rebellious MPs over the divisive Brexit question and anti-Semitism allegations that have roiled the party. The veteran leftist is expected to dodge direct commitments on the toxic Brexit issue, and instead advance a radical domestic agenda built around themes of social justice. He hopes it will appeal to voters who could be heading to the polls if Prime Minister Theresa May’s government collapses under the pressure of Brexit before Britain is set to leave the EU in March.Corbyn is due to use his speech in Liverpool, north west England, to promise an expansion of free childcare for poor households, saying that “driving up standards of childcare will make that vital difference for millions of our children.”But Brexit and the accsusations that the party has failed to tackle anti-Semitism have loomed large over the four-day party event, causing ructions that the leader will be keen to avoid on Wednesday.“I think Corbyn’s speech will be built around the theme of government-in-waiting, ‘this lot have failed on everything from Brexit to the NHS, they’ve let the country down, it’s time for a change’,” Anand Menon, Professor of European Politics and Foreign Affairs at King’s College London, told AFP.While allegations of anti-Semitism have dogged Corbyn since he became Labour leader three years ago, the furor has reached fever pitch since March. The crisis over anti-Semitism in the Labour Party has caused a major schism within its ranks and led Jews to express fears over their future in the country. On Tuesday, Labour’s foreign affairs spokeswoman Emily Thornberry warned that the party must kick out “sickening individuals on the fringes of our movement, who use our legitimate support for Palestine as a cloak and a cover for their despicable hatred of Jewish people, and their desire to see Israel destroyed.”“Those people stand for everything that we have always stood against and they must be kicked out of our party,” Thornberry said.Menon said it would be good to hear Corbyn speak out on the issue from the rostrum as well.“It will be good to have some strong statements from the platform, saying ‘ok, we got this wrong’,” said Menon. “They can’t pretend it hasn’t happened.”On Sunday, Corbyn himself insisted he was not an anti-Semite, but refused to apologize for a series of incidents involving him and other party members that have drawn accusations of rampant anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiment. In an interview with BBC host Andrew Marr ahead of the party’s annual conference, Corbyn defended his own conduct and his handling of some of the scandals that have rocked the opposition party in recent months. When asked by Marr if he wanted to “express personal remorse” over the ongoing crisis, Corbyn responded: “I’ll simply say this, I am an anti-racist and I’ll die an anti-racist. Anti-Semitism is a scourge in any society. I have opposed it all my life and I will continue to oppose it all my life.”Corbyn insisted to Marr that he was “absolutely” not anti-Semitic, while defending a remark he made about British Zionists not understanding irony, his attendance at a memorial for Palestinian terrorists, and Labour’s reluctance to fully adopt the IHRA’s definition of anti-Semitism.-Election calls-With the Brexit negotiations entering their final phase, a conference spat between two senior MPs gave Corbyn a taste of the showdown looming within the party.Shadow finance minister John McDonnell, a key Corbyn ally, and Brexit secretary Keir Starmer both publicly pressured Corbyn on whether or not to rule out another referendum on Britain’s EU membership.Party delegates voted on Tuesday to support “all options remaining on the table” on Brexit, including campaigning for a second vote if May is unable to get a final deal through parliament. But veteran leftist McDonnell went off message on Monday, saying the option of staying in the European Union should not be on any ballot paper. The pro-EU Starmer hit back, receiving rapturous applause from members when he also veered off script to insist that remaining in the bloc was still on the table, exposing the power struggle behind the veneer of party unity.Corbyn, a long-time eurosceptic, must find a way to reconcile his pro-EU MPs and members with the party’s working class voter base, who broadly support Brexit, if he is to capitalize on May’s vulnerability at the ballot box.The leader kept his options open on Tuesday, telling the BBC: “We haven’t said there’s going to be anything yet.”“What we’ve said (is that) all options must be considered if and when this government collapses or its negotiations collapse.”For now, the party can unify around attempts to bring down the government, the first step of which will be voting to reject any deal May strikes with the EU, which Starmer said was “increasingly likely.”May would then need the support of almost all of her MPs to get it through parliament, an unlikely scenario given her own party’s divisions.Labour has also vowed to block a no-deal Brexit, and suggested a general election should be called in such a scenario, although pro-EU David Lammy doubted it would happen.“Most people here want a general election and want Jeremy Corbyn running the country, in the end that will be down to getting a two-thirds majority in the House of Commons, my own view is that’s not likely to happen,” he told AFP.TOI staff and agencies contributed to this report.

Pompeo accuses EU of ‘solidifying Iran’s ranking’ as top state sponsor of terror-US secretary of state blasts European states over payment plan to preserve business with Tehran and avoid renewed American sanctions-By AFP-TOI-SEP 26,18

NEW YORK — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denounced Tuesday a European Union plan to set up a way to preserve business with Iran and avoid renewed American sanctions.Addressing the United Against a Nuclear Iran pressure group being held near the annual UN General Assembly, Pompeo said he was “disturbed and indeed deeply disappointed” by Monday’s announcement from remaining members of an international nuclear deal.“This is one of the most counterproductive measures imaginable for regional peace and security,” Pompeo said, accusing the European Union of “solidifying Iran’s ranking as the number-one state sponsor of terrorism.”“I imagine the corrupt ayatollahs and IGRC were laughing this morning,” Pompeo added at the event in New York, referring to the elite Revolutionary Guards, in a speech that was interrupted several times by anti-war protesters.President Donald Trump pulled out of an agreement negotiated under his predecessor Barack Obama for Iran to curtail its nuclear program sharply in exchange for sanctions relief.EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, speaking late Monday alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, said that the agreement was in the global interest and pointed to UN inspectors’ findings that Iran is in compliance. She said that European Union members were working on a legal entity that would allow businesses to buy oil and conduct other business with Iran in hopes of avoiding US sanctions.

Bolton warns Iran of ‘hell to pay’ in impassioned NY speech-Using unusually harsh language even for Trump administration, US national security adviser tells Tehran: ‘We are watching, and we will come after you’-By TOI staff and Agencies-26 September 2018

US national security adviser John Bolton warned Iran of “hell to pay” and “serious consequences” if it defies the US, using some of the most aggressive language employed by administration officials in recent decades.Bolton delivered the speech Tuesday in New York, hosted by an organization that opposed the 2015 nuclear deal that the Trump administration withdrew from earlier this year. The speech, which saw excerpts released before the delivery, features rhetoric that is tough even by the standards of an administration fiercely opposed to Tehran.“According to the mullahs in Tehran, we are ‘the Great Satan,’ lord of the underworld, master of the raging inferno,” Bolton told the annual summit of United Against Nuclear Iran. “So, I might imagine they would take me seriously when I assure them today: If you cross us, our allies, or our partners; if you harm our citizens; if you continue to lie, cheat, and deceive, yes, there will indeed be hell to pay.”“The Iran deal was the worst diplomatic debacle in American history,” he continued in the speech, which coincided with the annual UN General Assembly. “It did nothing to address the regime’s destabilizing activities or its ballistic missile development and proliferation. Worst of all, the deal failed in its fundamental objective: permanently denying Iran all paths to a nuclear bomb.“The United States is not naive. We will not be duped, cheated, or intimidated. The days of impunity for Tehran and its enablers are over. The murderous regime and its supporters will face significant consequences if they do not change their behavior. Let my message today be clear: We are watching, and we will come after you.”Earlier Tuesday, US President Donald Trump urged the international community to isolate Iran, during a combative address before the UN General Assembly in which he accused the Tehran regime of sowing “chaos, death, and destruction.”“We cannot allow the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism to possess the planet’s most dangerous weapons,” Trump said, citing Iran’s “threatening Israel with annihilation” and chants of “death to America.”“We ask all nations to isolate Iran’s regime as long as its aggression continues and we ask all nations to support Iran’s people as they struggle to reclaim their religious and righteous destiny,” he added. In May, Trump withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal with Iran, which was forged under his predecessor, Barack Obama. The administration tore into the deal for its sunset clauses that allow certain restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program to expire, its failure to prevent Iranian ballistic missile testing, and the partial access it provides for inspectors into Iran’s military sites.Trump’s pullout from the deal was met with intense criticism from world leaders, especially those of the other countries — Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russia — that brokered the accord.Iranian President Hassan Rouhani responded to Trump’s fiery speech by calling the reimposed sanctions “economic terrorism” and claiming the United States was plotting to overthrow Tehran’s regime.“It is ironic that the US government doesn’t even conceal its plan for overthrowing the same government it invites to talks,” he said.Eric Cortellessa contributed to this report.

HOSEA 4:1-3
1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.

DEUTORONOMY 28:22-24

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Signs of life-NASA’s Mars Opportunity rover seen, but still not heard-Spacecraft sends back a photo of Opportunity, which has been silent ever since a massive dust storm engulfed the red planet in late spring-By Marcia Dunn-SEP 27,18

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (AP) — NASA’s Mars rover, Opportunity, has been seen, but still not heard.A spacecraft around Mars has sent back a photo of Opportunity, which has been silent ever since a massive dust storm engulfed the red planet in late spring. The rover appears in the photo as a pale dot.The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took the picture last week from 166 miles (267 kilometers) up. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory released the photo Tuesday. The global dust storm prevented sunlight from reaching Opportunity’s solar panels, and the rover fell silent in June. Although the skies have cleared considerably, Opportunity has yet to send word to flight controllers.NASA has stepped up efforts to contact Opportunity, but acknowledged the nearly 15-year-old rover may not have survived the prolonged power outage..@MarsRovers Opportunity: We’re rooting for you! While we keep listening for the rover to wake from hibernation due to a dust storm that swept over the Red Planet a little more than 100 days ago, a new image from our Mars orbiter spotted Opportunity. Russia said to spurn Israeli bid to send top officials to discuss downed plane-Jerusalem reportedly wanted to dispatch national security adviser to Russia last week, and even weighed visit by PM or defense chief to relieve tensions; Moscow said no-By TOI staff-SEP 26,18

Russian officials reportedly rebuffed an Israeli attempt to dispatch a high-level government representative to Moscow last week following the downing of a Russian spy plane by Syrian air defenses during an Israeli airstrike.Israel initially sought to send a delegation led by its national security adviser, Meir Ben-Shabbat, along with air force officials, the Haaretz newspaper reported late Tuesday. The government also considered having Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman personally visit Moscow to tend to the spiraling diplomatic crisis between the two countries over the deadly incident. But Russia spurned the offers, preferring the explanations over the downing of the plane be left to military officials, according to the daily. The report also underlined the Russian Defense Ministry’s decision to blame the Israeli military, rather than the government, for the Russian casualties. The report suggested the wording was predicated on the Russian military officials’ belief that the Israeli government was being misled by its “unprofessional” air force. An Israeli air force delegation was ultimately sent to brief their Russian counterparts on the incident and persuade them the Syrian operators were at fault.Russian defense officials, however, have publicly rejected the Israeli account and blamed Jerusalem for the deaths of over a dozen Russian servicemen. The Russian spy plane was downed while Israeli fighter jets were conducting an airstrike last Monday night on a weapons facility in the coastal city of Latakia, which the IDF said was going to provide weapons to the Hezbollah terror group and other Iranian proxies. It was shot down during a counterattack by Syrian air defenses and its 15 crew members were killed.Since the downing of the IL-20 spy plane, Israel’s relationship with Moscow has appeared to be rapidly deteriorating.Russia has accused one of the Israeli pilots of using the reconnaissance plane as a shield after the attack, hiding behind it to avoid being hit by the Syrian surface-to-air missile.Israel has repeatedly denied the allegation and maintains that it notified the Russians 12 minutes before the attack — far longer than Moscow claims.Israeli and Russian military officials are scheduled to meet in order to address the growing rift between the two countries, Netanyahu said earlier on Tuesday.Speaking to reporters before boarding a flight to New York, Netanyahu said Israel would continue to fight Iran’s efforts to establish a permanent military presence in Syria.“We will do whatever is necessary to protect Israel’s security,” he said. The security cabinet, which met Tuesday morning, released a statement around the same time, with a similar message.“The security cabinet has instructed the IDF to continue to take action against attempts by Iran to establish a military presence in Syria while continuing the security coordination with Russia,” the statement read, echoing comments made by Israeli defense officials over the past week.Netanyahu said he spoke twice with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the wake of the incident and expressed his “sincere” condolences over the Russian servicemen who died in the “tragic event.”In the three years since Jerusalem and Moscow agreed to establish a so-called deconfliction mechanism to avoid clashes over Syrian skies, Israel has been “very successful” in thwarting Iran’s effort to entrench itself in Syria and provide advanced weaponry to the Hezbollah terror group, Netanyahu said.“That doesn’t mean there weren’t exceptions, but by and large it has been a great success,” he said. This crisis has threatened the coordination between the countries’ militaries, with potentially serious implications for the Israel Defense Forces’ ability to fight Iran in Syria.Netanyahu said Tuesday that the IDF and Russian military would work to resolve the issue.“I reached an agreement with Putin that work groups from the IDF and Russian army will meet soon for this purpose,” he said.In his short press briefing, the prime minister made no mention of Russia’s latest actions in Syria: the decision to provide Syrian dictator Bashar Assad with the powerful S-300 air defense system and to establish electronic warfare equipment along the Syria coast, which could jam Israeli radars and communication equipment. On Monday, both Jerusalem and Washington warned Russia against providing the Syrian military with the advanced surface-to-air missiles within two weeks, saying the move would further destabilize the region and increase already-high tensions.Putin informed Netanyahu of the decision to provide Syria with the S-300 system in a phone call Sunday. In response, according to a statement by Netanyahu’s office, “The prime minister said providing advanced weapons systems to irresponsible actors will magnify dangers in the region, and that Israel will continue to defend itself and its interests.”Concurrently, US National Security Adviser John Bolton said Russia’s decision was a “major mistake” that would cause a “significant escalation” of  tensions. He urged Moscow to reconsider.Channel 10 news quoted a senior American official who noted that the system could also endanger US Air Force jets operating against the Islamic State group in Syria.“Bringing more anti-aircraft missiles into Syria won’t solve the Syrian army’s unprofessional and indiscriminate firing of missiles and won’t mitigate the danger to aircraft flying in the area,” the unnamed official said.Earlier on Monday, the Kremlin issued a devastating critique of Israel over the plane incident, accusing Israel’s air force of “premeditated actions,” and warning that the incident would harm relations between the two countries.“According to information of our military experts, the reason (behind the downing) were premeditated actions by Israeli pilots which certainly cannot but harm our relations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov produced data that he said had been collected by Russian air defense systems in Syria purportedly indicating that one of the Israeli F-16 fighter jets was flying close to the much larger Russian plane. When the F-16 was targeted by a Syrian missile it suddenly veered off, resulting in the missile homing in on the bigger target.Konashenkov also said that data showed that the Israeli jets remained over the Mediterranean Sea off Syria’s coast after the Russian plane was downed, though Israel has said its fighters were long gone by the time the Syrian missiles were launched.Russia had originally agreed to sell the system to Syria in 2010, but scrapped the plan at Israel’s behest. However, the Syrian military has already received training on use of the system.Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted that Russia had also intended to supply Syria with the systems in 2013, but had held back because of Israeli concerns. Now, he said, “the situation has changed, and that isn’t our fault.”Peskov said the measures were “not directed against third countries but towards defending our own military.”However, Syria’s Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said following the announcement that Damascus required the S-300 “in order to defend Syrian land from Israel’s aggressive actions.”Russia already has its own S-300 air defense system in Syria, along with the more advanced S-400 system.Judah Ari Gross, Raphael Ahren contributed to this report.
