BRUSSELS - EU countries have moved a step closer to sending arms to Iraqi Kurds to help them fight the Islamic State (IS).Ambassadors at a meeting of the bloc’s Political and Security Committee in Brussels on Tuesday (12 August) agreed that individual member states are free to send weapons, but stopped short of launching an EU-level effort to support the Kurdish militia, the Peshmerga.The envoys’ joint statement “noted the urgent request by the Kurdish regional authorities to certain member states for military support and underlined the need to consider this request in close co-ordination with the Iraqi authorities”.In contrast to the EU divisions which marked the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, they “welcomed the efforts by the US ... to stop the IS advance”.The US began air strikes against the Islamist fighters last week, with the State Department on Tuesday saying US ground forces might be used to break an IS siege on Mount Sinjar in northern Iraq, where tens of thousands of refugees from the Yazidi minority are facing extermination.The EU the same day also activated its Emergency Response Co-ordination Centre - a mechanism for pooling humanitarian aid from the 28 member states.Meanwhile, the European Commission earmarked another €5 million for humanitarian assistance for the more than 200,000 Iraqi people driven from their homes by fighting in recent weeks.France has led the call for EU arms to Iraqi Kurds after its foreign minister, Laurent Fabius, visited the Kurdish capital, Erbil, on Sunday.He told French radio on Tuesday that: “There is an evident imbalance between this horrible group [IS] which has sophisticated weapons and the Kurdish peshmergas, who are courageous but don’t have these weapons”.The German foreign ministry earlier said it is considering shipments of armoured vehicles, mine-detection equipment, helmets, body armour and medical supplies. KIEV/VORONEZH Russia (Reuters) - Ukraine described Russia's dispatch of an aid convoy advancing now towards its border as a cynical act designed to fan a pro-Russian rebellion the UN said on Wednesday had claimed nearly 1,000 lives, fighters and civilians, in two weeks.Kiev declared that the convoy would not be allowed to pass; but a presidential spokesman later suggested a compromise might be found, bringing it under the control of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)."First they send tanks, Grad missiles and bandits who fire on Ukrainians and then they send water and salt," Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk said of a conflict that has killed over 2,000 since mid-April."The level of Russian cynicism knows no bounds."The comments reflected suspicions in Kiev and Western capitals that passage of the convoy onto Ukrainian soil could turn into a covert military action to help separatists in the Russian-speaking east now losing ground to government forces.Russia, which sees Russian-speakers in the east under threat from a government it considers chauvinistic, said any suggestion of a link between the convoy and an invasion plan was absurd.The convoy of heavy trucks rumbled out of Moscow region on Tuesday and traveled some 500 km (300 miles) to the southwestern Russian town of Voronezh. There it stopped at an air base behind high fences, according to a Reuters reporter.Several people who entered the airbase and spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said dozens of trucks were still parked at the airbase. It was not clear whether the Voronezh convoy was the only one traveling towards Ukraine."The journey isn't short, of course," one truck driver interviewed on Russian Rossiya-24 television commented."How can I put it? It's pretty difficult. But how could we not help our Slavic brothers? We are all for it."An ICRC spokeswoman in Geneva said Russia had given a "general list" of goods on its convoy to Ukrainian authorities and the ICRC, but the aid agency needed a detailed inventory."A number of important issues still need to be clarified between the two sides, including border crossing procedures, customs clearance and other issues," Anastasia Isyuk said.The list of contents on the 260-truck convoy provided by Moscow included food, water bottles and generators, she said.

DILEMMA

The last few weeks has seen significant government successes against rebels who have abandoned a string of towns under heavy fire. Kiev says rebel leaders, some of whom are Russians and who seek union with Russia, are receiving arms from Moscow, something the Kremlin denies.U.N. human rights spokeswoman Cecile Pouilly said the estimated death toll had risen to 2,086 as of Aug. 10 from 1,129 on July 26. The figures included Ukrainian soldiers, rebel groups and civilians, but were "very conservative estimates"."This corresponds to a clear escalating trend," she told Reuters in response to an inquiry.It was not clear to what extent the figures reflected escalation of the fighting, which erupted four months ago after a pro-Russian president was driven from office by protests, or delays in gathering data from government and local agencies.State-controlled Russian television presented a picture of fierce battles around the rebel stronghold of Donetsk, accusing the Ukrainian military of indiscriminate shelling or rocketing of civilian buildings. Residents interviewed said they were being bombed everyday and hiding in cellars.The approach of the convoy presents Kiev with a dilemma.Ukraine says it fears it could become the focus of tension and conflict once on its soil and provide pretext for a Russian armed incursion. At the same time, Kiev does not want to seem to be blocking aid and providing a moral basis for Kremlin action.

BORDER CROSSING

A presidential spokesman said that the Ukrainians, at a meeting late on Tuesday night, had agreed to accept the aid for Luhansk region in a bid to prevent "a full-scale invasion" by Russia.One option he said was for the aid to come into Ukraine at a point further along the border closer to Luhansk itself after checks by Ukrainian border guards, customs and officials of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).The aid could then be distributed under the supervision of the Red Cross, said the spokesman, Svyatoslav Tseholko.Kiev accuses Russia of supporting and arming the rebels - who now appear to be on the verge of defeat by government forces - with tanks, missiles and other weapons. Moscow denies this.Four months of fighting in the east has produced a humanitarian crisis in parts of eastern Ukraine. WARSAW (Reuters) - NATO member states are close to reaching consensus over steps to beef up the alliance's military presence in eastern Europe in response to Russia's intervention in Ukraine, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Wednesday in an interview.Sikorski told Reuters he believed the Kremlin could still invade eastern Ukraine, though he said the possibility of Russian troops entering under cover of a humanitarian aid convoy now heading towards the Ukrainian border had receded somewhat in the past few days.Poland, the biggest of the former Communist states to join NATO after the end of the Cold War, has been a leading voice in calling for sanctions on Russia and for NATO to shift troops and equipment eastwards to reassure members on Russia's flanks.NATO's leadership has proposed pre-positioning supplies and equipment at bases in the east in readiness for sending troops if needed, and said one option was to enhance an existing NATO regional headquarters in north-western Poland."Until this year we did not have war between two of our neighbors, and now we do. So our perception of the need for reassurance is even higher," Sikorski said in the interview."We've welcomed the proposals by the military authorities of the alliance who have formulated what they think a reasonable reassurance package is, and we believe that's a good proposal."He said he did not want to go into details about what the likely options were, because diplomats and military officials needed more time to prepare a consensus view that can be approved at a Sept. 4 NATO summit in Wales.Asked how close alliance members were to reaching that consensus, Sikorski said: "I think we're quite close," and that it should be achieved in time for the summit.The proposals under consideration by NATO fall well short of what Sikorski himself had earlier proposed, for the alliance to permanently station two brigades in eastern member states.Some NATO members have resisted increasing the alliance's military presence in the east.

FROZEN CONFLICT

Sikorski, who is Poland's nominee for the soon-to-be-vacant post of the European Union's chief diplomat, said it was a positive sign that Moscow has been negotiating with Kiev and the Red Cross over sending aid into eastern Ukraine.Several EU leaders have warned the planned Russian aid convoy on its way to the border with Ukraine could have been used as a cover for a military attack. Sharia law is the law of Islam. The Sharia (also spelled Shariah or Shari'a) law is cast from the actions and words of Muhammad, which are called "Sunnah," and the Quran, which he authored.The Sharia law itself cannot be altered, but the interpretation of the Sharia law, called "figh," by imams is given some leeway.As a legal system, the Sharia law covers a very wide range of topics. While other legal codes deal primarily with public behavior, Sharia law covers public behavior, private behavior and private beliefs. Of all legal systems in the world today, Islam's Sharia law is the most intrusive and strict, especially against women.

•  A woman can have 1 husband, but a man can have up to 4 wives; Muhammad can have more.
•  A man can unilaterally divorce his wife but a woman needs her husband's consent to divorce.
•  A man can beat his wife for insubordination.
•  Testimonies of four male witnesses are required to prove rape against a woman.
•  A woman who has been raped cannot testify in court against her rapist(s).
•  A woman's testimony in court, allowed only in property cases, carries half the weight of a man's.
•  A female heir inherits half of what a male heir inherits.
•  A woman cannot drive a car, as it leads to fitnah (upheaval).
•  A woman cannot speak alone to a man who is not her husband or relative.
•  Meat to be eaten must come from animals that have been sacrificed to Allah - i.e., be Halal.
•  Muslims should engage in Taqiyya and lie to non-Muslims to advance Islam.
•  The list goes on.

Where in the world is the Sharia law actually in use?

Muslims' aspired Sharia-ruled state is Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad. It has no legal code other than the Sharia, which is enforced without mercy (see Sharia law in Saudi Arabia). But the Sharia law is also used in full or in part, nationally or regionally in:

Do you ever find yourself reading a story so unbelievable that you simply do not know how to get your brain to properly process the data? I came upon such a story yesterday and I intend to report it but ultimately you need to decide what you believe. I am not afraid to print anything for discussion. But I will not characterize this story as undeniable truth. I want to throw it out so people can process it at their own pace. It might take me awhile. Fair enough? Dr. Jim Garrow is a former Nobel Peace Prize nominee. He was responsible for bringing the military litmus tests (whether soldiers will fire on American citizens) to light early in 2013. I believed that story because there have been other sources to report similar occurrences, including the infamous 29 Palms survey.About a month ago Dr. Garrow reported that Tom Clancy and Andrew Breitbart were basically assassinated by operatives from The Obama Administration. I can actually believe that could be true. However, the part I had a hard time swallowing was that Garrow claimed to have this knowledge only because he is a former CIA Agent. I printed that article, written by Dr. Eowyn but I must admit that the CIA Agent scenario seemed a bit odd to me.

I have two thoughts on this:

1-Dr. Jim Garrow is one of the last people I would expect to be a CIA Agent, but…
2-I really think they would have locked him up already for making claims like that if they were not true. I’m not sure what to believe. But wouldn’t portraying yourself as a former CIA Agent be some sort of crime? Well those stories seem like back page news compared to the potential bombshell that Garrow just dropped. I don’t like Barack Obama one bit. I think he is hell bent on destroying America. But would he nuke America? Interesting.

Is it truth? I don’t know but it is very interesting.As bizarre as this story may be, there are some things in place that might tend to support it. Check out CNN’s entry called Top nuclear missile commanders fired. I kind of doubt that they were fired for “alcohol and gambling” as the story suggests. I would have to assume some sort of insubordination was in play. You don’t fire a highly-decorated career officer because he is a drunk. These firings happened before Garrow posted, so if he is out of his mind he could have constructed a story around these events.And if you want to check out actual radiation levels you will see that there are areas of elevated radiation on the East Coast in the general vicinity of South Carolina. Here is a good source for that: http://www.netc.com/ Compare it to the West Coast which is purportedly suffering the effects of Fukushima and it doesn’t look all that bad, however. And since I don’t check those reports daily it could be that the Carolinas have had elevated or rising radiation levels for awhile, and that could have gone into the creation of a story as well.My gut feeling is that this story is not true and that Garrow has slipped off into another reality. If it is true then why has no one else come forward and why is an “ex-CIA” Agent the only one willing to expose the planned slaughter of 300 million Americans? Wouldn’t you hope that at least one of the three who were relieved of command would have something to say as well? If not them, then surely someone would have been so guilt-ridden that they had to tell someone. We are talking about 300 million lives. It seems like Garrow is off his rocker, but……if I was 100% confident of that I would not have bothered to even print this story. I still have a hard time believing that someone could make claims like this and not find themselves behind bars or worse. Do you think this administration would allow that? Brandon Raub got arrested for some pretty harmless Facebook posts and this seems far from harmless. Does Garrow really have the goods and is he using that as leverage to keep himself from the same fate? I can’t help but think about all of the unbelievable conspiracies that became reality in 2013. Do I believe that Obama would nuke this country to benefit from a “false flag?” Unfortunately yes I do believe that he would stoop to anything that would get him closer to his goals, but I just have a hard time believing that it’s true this time. Garrow just seems to be at the center of too many big stories that no one else seems to come by. Are his connections that strong? Or is he just crazy?I keep going back to wondering whether of not I believe Obama would do this. I believe he would. Is Garrow credible though? I am starting to have serious doubts.

Truce condition "rewards" for Hamas

According to the details about the truce conditions Israel has reportedly agreed to in order to stop the terror war launched by Hamas, Israel would pay the salaries of Hamas officials through a third-party country, and the siege on the terrorist enclave of Gaza would be lightened, reports Yedioth Aharonoth.The fishing zone for Gaza would be expanded by six nautical miles, and building materials would be sent in under supervision, despite the fact that cement transported to Gaza helped Hamas build a massive network of terror tunnels used in the operation to kill IDF soldiers.Israel is also reportedly close to agreeing to double the amount of trucks bringing materials to Gaza through the Kerem Shalom Crossing to 600 per day, as well as increasing the monthly amount of entry permits to Israel from the Erez Crossing, and expanding criterion for Gaza residents to enter Israel, Judea and Samaria.As for what Israel gets in return for the numerous concessions, reports have yet to specify what exactly is being offered. One thing they do suggest is that the truce deal does not include a demilitarization of Gaza, despite calls to do so.

Will Netanyahu convince the ministers?

Despite the private talks Tuesday, it remains to be seen whether the ministers will be "softened" by Netanyahu's meetings.Bennett already voiced his opposition Monday to paying the salaries of Hamas officials in Gaza. The minister said "it is impossible to fight our enemy with one hand and to fund it with the other."Likewise Liberman on Monday came out against Israel caving in to Hamas demands, such as funding Hamas and allowing a Gaza sea and airport, stating that Hamas must not leave the clash "with a feeling that terror pays."For its part, Hamas has bragged of holding negotiations with Israel "at gunpoint," and clarified that even if a truce is reached, it would only be so as to prepare the next terror war on Israel.

In a newly translated interview, Hamas spokesperson Husam Badran declared that his terror organization is holding truce talks in Cairo with Israel being held "at gunpoint" to accept the group's demands.Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) translated the interview from Al Jazeera, which is sponsored by Qatar, a key provider of Hamas funds. In it, Badran relates being asked in jail in 2002 by then-deputy head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Service) whether Hamas will ever negotiate with Israel."I said to him outright: If we ever negotiate with you, whether directly or indirectly, we will do so with our weapons in our hands. If we get what we want, so be it. If not, we will shoot you in the chest. What I said back then is how Hamas negotiates now," stated Badran.Hamas's lavish demands in the talks include serious threats on Israel's security, such as the release of terrorists, the opening of borders, as well as the establishment of a sea port and airport in Gaza.The Hamas spokesperson also clarified that his organization "began preparing for this confrontation the day the 2012 war ended," a reference to the last counter-terror operation in Gaza, Operation Pillar of Defense.The statement comes as Hamas announced its position on the ongoing Cairo truce talks Tuesday, saying "the warriors in Gaza are waiting with Allah's help to renew the fighting, or to return to planning the next campaign. There's no escape. Either jihad or planning (for the next jihad)."Together, the statements leave no doubts that Hamas intends to begin preparing for the next confrontation immediately after the current operation.Badran revealed that during the time since Pillar of Defense, "hundreds of our men were martyred digging the tunnels during the previous lull period. ...The mujahideen of the Al-Qassam Brigades were getting ready in the tunnels."Those who survived digging the terror tunnels did not meet a better end than their compatriots; in recent weeks Hamas has executed dozens of the diggers to make sure they would not reveal information about the locations they were digging in.The Hamas spokesperson also bragged of how Al-Qassam Brigades engineered domestic missiles and "drones that many countries in the region lack."In several cases the IDF shot down drones launched by Hamas during the operation. However, only two weeks later, the Lebanese newspaper alleged that the Turkish government was complicit in this, allegations that Ankara rejected.When the water supply was last cut in June, levels in man-made Lake Assad dropped by six meters, putting millions of Syrians without drinking water, the Al-Akhbar newspaper reported. The gradual reduction of water flow had been taking place over a period of a month-and-a-half.Nonetheless, according to the newspaper, Al-Akhbar’s interview with an anonymous source revealed Turkey had decided to intervene in the Syrian conflict by cutting the water supply from the river, something civilians began to refer to as the “water wars” waged at their expense.Despite the allegations, some say the water shortages that really hit hard in July are the work of the Islamic State. One anonymous engineer at the Tabqa dam told Al Jazeera that "the whole drop happened since the Islamic State group took over. They took control and then we saw major issues… "Deterioration of the [lake's] level all happened within one month."Other reports speak of illegal water drawn for the purposes of irrigation. No blame can be attributed with certainty in a chaotic situation that also involves the worst drought in 60 years, with rainfall down by 50-85 percent since October 2013.The Turkish government has also recently been in the spotlight with allegations that it helped Islamic State expansion by turning a blind eye to militants passing through its borders into Syria, where Turkish views align with those of the Sunni elements fighting President Bashar Assad. The water level of the Euphrates Lake has decreased by six metres in the body of the dam, RMC reported. Criticism of the Turkish government has been voiced by civil society activists in Northern Syria concerning Turkey's control of the River Euphrates. In recent weeks, the Turks have stopped the flow of water into Syria from the mighty river, which has its source in Turkey's Taurus Mountains before flowing into Syria and on into Iraq. The Euphrates is the main source of water for the Northern Syrian province of Raqqa."This threatens us with a real disaster within the next few days," said Abu Mohamed, a local activist from Raqqa. He pointed out that half of the villages in the district currently have no water available for residential use or agricultural purposes.The Euphrates has three main dams within Syria: Tishreen, Euphrates and Al-Baath. The Euphrates dam is considered the most important of the three. The water level in the Euphrates Lake (formerly known as Al-Assad Lake) has dropped significantly. It is the largest man-made lake in Syria at 85km long; until recently it held more than 14.2 billion cubic metres of water. The lake and hydro-electric power station on its dam is the source of water and electricity to Raqqa and eastern Aleppo.Turkey initially cut the flow of water into Syria at the beginning of May for six days. In June, the government decreased the river flow gradually until it was stopped completely by the middle of the month. According to a news report published by the independent Raqqa Media Centre (RMC), there are currently only three turbines working to generate electricity at the dam, instead of the usual eight, due to the low water level. The RMC also noted that the water level lake has dropped by 1.6 billion cubic metres; the report condemns Turkey for the suffering caused to the people of Raqqa. "Turkey is purposely not allowing the water to enter Syria for political reasons," claimed the RMC report.The Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS), which controls Raqqa province, were also angered by Turkey's control of the river. It issued a statement criticising the Turkish government for "cutting water to Al-Sham [Levant] prefectures."However, according to Abu Mohamed from Raqqa, ISIS has not expressed contempt about the issue, as the group is not concerned with the issues of the Syrian people; rather, it is concerned about maintaining control of the province. "ISIS provides water and electricity through generators for its own people," he added, emphasising that the negative impact of extremist groups on the people of Raqqa is now compounded by Turkish control of the Euphrates.A source close to ISIS told the pan-Arab daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi last week that the group called on the Turkish government to open the flow of the Euphrates River as a prerequisite for the release of the kidnapped Turkish consul in Iraq and his colleagues.The Istanbul-based Syrian National Coalition, which is considered the most important opposition body, has not yet issued a comment on the dispute. "The coalition doesn't have enough confidence to express an explicit stance on this issue," said Ali Amin Al- Suwaid, a Syrian political analyst and a member of the General Authority of the Syrian Revolution. He explained that the coalition headquarters is based in Turkey and so it must maintain diplomatic relations with the Turkish government. "What is needed is to urge Turkey to return to the Syrian people the agreed share of the Euphrates," he demanded.Turkey's decision to block the flow of the Euphrates also affects Iraq's share, said Khaled Abu Al-Waled, a media activist from Raqqa City. "This is a flagrant violation of international water conventions," he insisted. "No drop of the Euphrates now enters Syrian territory."Some villages have no safe drinking water, forcing locals to use water taken directly from the lake, despite the danger of disease.The pro-opposition Violation Documentation Centre in Syria (VDC) also condemned Turkey's behaviour, warning that the consequences will be negative. "This is a weird action," said Bassam Al-Ahmad, the VDC spokesperson. He called on the Turkish government to reverse the decision. "Our demands are clear for the Turkish government to take immediate measures to stop this action."Historically, Turkey has been in conflict with Syria and Iraq over the control of the Euphrates. In the past, Turkey denied that the Euphrates is an international river and that Syria and Iraq had any rights over the control of the flow.In 1994, an agreement between Syria and Turkey was registered at the United Nations to guarantee a minimum share of the water from the Euphrates to Iraq and Syria.
