15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)

05/25/2014 - THE VATICAN INSIDER-Pope invites Palestinian and Israeli Presidents to the Vatican to pray for peace-Pope Francis-Pope Francis in Bethlehem, stuns the world, by inviting Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Israeli President, Shimon Peres, to join him, in his home in the Vatican, to pray together for peace-Gerard O’Connell

Bethlehem-Pope Francis took the world by surprise at midday on Sunday, May 25, when at the end of mass in Manger Square, Bethlehem, he invited the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and Israeli President, Shimon Peres, to join him, at his home in the Vatican, to pray together for peace.Earlier that morning, he stopped and prayed at the Wall, which Israel insists it built for self-protection, but which has separated Israelis from Palestinians, divided communities, and caused enormous resentment and hate among the Palestinians.  He prayed at the wall for about 5 minutes and the put his forehead against the wall. The action was more eloquent that a thousand speeches.Earlier that Sunday morning he had a meeting with the Palestinian leadership at Bethlehem, before celebrating mass for 10,000 delighted Christians in Manger Square, Bethlehem, he made a passionate plea for an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the establishment of a Palestinian State alongside the State of Israel. He also expressed his hope to return again to visit Galilee. He arrived in Palestine from Jordan by helicopter, early May 25. His two friends from Buenos Aires, Rabbi Abraham Skorka and the Muslim Omar Abboud accompanied him here. After meeting the Palestinian leadership, in Bethlehem, 15 minutes’ drive from Jerusalem, he drove by car to Manger Square where 10,000 Christians from the West Bank, Gaza and Galilee, together with migrant workers from Asia and Africa, and pilgrims from Shanghai gave him a rapturous welcome, waving flags, scarves, banners, and singing. The Palestinian President was also present. In his homily, at the Mass of the Nativity concelebrated with the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Fouad Twal, and the bishops of the Holy Land, he thanked God “for this great grace”, and then focused on the Christ child and the world’s children.“The Child Jesus, born in Bethlehem, is the sign given by God to those who awaited salvation, and he remains forever the sign of God’s tenderness and presence in our world”, the Pope declared.Today too, he said,  “children are a sign. They are a sign of hope, a sign of life, but also a “diagnostic” sign, a marker indicating the health of families, society and the entire world.”“Wherever children are accepted, loved, cared for and protected, the family is healthy, society is more healthy and the world is more human”, he told the crowd that included very many children. The Child of Bethlehem was frail, he said, “like all newborn children. He cannot speak and yet he is the Word made flesh who came to transform the hearts and lives of all men and women. This Child, like every other child, is vulnerable; he needs to be accepted and protected.”Today too, the Pope said, “children need to be welcomed and defended, from the moment of their conception.” Sadly, he noted, “in this world of ours, with all its highly developed technology, great numbers of children continue to live in inhuman situations, on the fringes of society, in the peripheries of great cities and in the countryside. All too many children continue to be exploited, maltreated, enslaved, prey to violence and illicit trafficking. Still too many children live in exile, as refugees, at times lost at sea, particularly in the waters of the Mediterranean.”In the face of such a situation, he said, “we feel shame before God, before God who became a child.”

Pope Francis is a master at linking the Gospel of Jesus to the modern world, and he did so again in Manger Square when he told those present and the hundreds of millions worldwide that were following thanks to the presence of some 1,000 TV, Radio and print journalists, “We have to ask ourselves: Who are we, as we stand before the Child Jesus? Who are we, standing as we stand before today’s children?”He put some pointed questions: “Are we like Mary and Joseph, who welcomed Jesus and care for him with the love of a father and a mother? Or are we like Herod, who wanted to eliminate him? Are we like the shepherds, who went in haste to kneel before him in worship and offer him their humble gifts? Or are we indifferent? Are we perhaps people who use fine and pious words, yet exploit pictures of poor children in order to make money? Are we ready to be there for children, to “waste time” with them? Are we ready to listen to them, to care for them, to pray for them and with them? Or do we ignore them because we are too caught up in our own affairs?”Today, he said, “children are crying, they are crying a lot, and their crying challenges us. In a world which daily discards tons of food and medicine there are children, hungry and suffering from easily curable diseases, who cry out in vain.”“In an age which insists on the protection of minors”, he added, “there is a flourishing trade in weapons which end up in the hands of child-soldiers, there is a ready market for goods produced by the slave labor of small children. Their cry is stifled: they must fight, they must work, they cannot cry! But their mothers cry for them, as modern-day Rachels: they weep for their children, and they refuse to be consoled (cf. Mt 2:18).”Pope Francis concluded by telling his Palestinian and global audience, “The Child Jesus, born in Bethlehem, every child who is born and grows up in every part of our world, is a diagnostic sign indicating the state of health of our families, our communities, our nation. Such a frank and honest diagnosis can lead us to a new kind of lifestyle where our relationships are no longer marked by conflict, oppression and consumerism, but fraternity, forgiveness and reconciliation, solidarity and love.”In a significant gesture, at the sign of peace, Pope Francis embraced president Abu Mazen.Earlier in the morning, at the Presidential Palace in Bethlehem, Pope Francis thanked the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas for his warm welcome.“You are known as a man of peace and a peacemaker”, he told him in a speech that for the most part focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but that also explicity recognized “the Palestinian State”, as most states in the world have done since the United Nations General Assembly recognized it in 2012.“For decades the Middle East has known the tragic consequences of a protracted conflict which has inflicted many wounds so difficult to heal”, he said, and even in the absence of violence “the climate of instability and a lack of mutual understanding have produced insecurity, the violation of rights, isolation and the flight of entire communities, conflicts, shortages and sufferings of every sort.”  He expressed his “closeness to those who suffer most from this conflict”.He went on express his heartfelt conviction “that the time has come to put an end to this situation which has become increasingly unacceptable”. For the good of all, he said, “there is a need to intensify efforts and initiatives aimed at creating the conditions for a stable peace based on justice, on the recognition of the rights of every individual, and on mutual security.” Addressing the Palestinian leadership, but also with an eye to the Israeli leadership in Jerusalem, Pope Francis declared with utmost clarity: “The time has come for everyone to find the courage to be generous and creative in the service of the common good, the courage to forge a peace which rests on the acknowledgment by all of the right of two States to exist and to live in peace and security within internationally recognized borders.”

He expressed the hope that all sides “will refrain from initiatives and actions which contradict the stated desire to reach a true agreement, and that peace will be pursued with tireless determination and tenacity”.Peace, he reminded them, “will bring countless benefits for the peoples of this region and for the world as a whole”.  For this reason, “it must resolutely be pursued, even if each side has to make certain sacrifices.”In Ramallah, 45 kms from Bethlehem where the Prince of Peace was born.  Pope Francis prayed “that the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and their respective leaders will undertake this promising journey of peace with the same courage and steadfastness needed for every journey.”  He told them that “Peace in security and mutual trust will become the stable frame of reference for confronting and resolving every other problem, and thus provide an opportunity for a balanced development, one which can serve as a model for other crisis areas.”He also reminded the Palestinian leadership that an active Christian community (of some 40,000 faithful) in their homeland  “contributes significantly to the common good of society, sharing in the joys and sufferings of the whole people. Christians desire to continue in this role as full citizens, along with their fellow citizens, whom they regard as their brothers and sisters.”He acknowledged “the good relations” that exist between the Holy See and the State of Palestine, and his appreciation for the efforts being made to draft an agreement between the parties “regarding various aspects of the life of the Catholic community in this country, with particular attention to religious freedom.” He emphasized the importance of “this fundamental human right” which “is one of the essential conditions for peace, fraternity and harmony” and “tells the world that it is possible and necessary to build harmony and understanding between different cultures and religions.Religious freedom, the Pope said, “also testifies to the fact that, since the important things we share are so many, it is possible to find a means of serene, ordered and peaceful coexistence, accepting our differences and rejoicing that, as children of the one God, we are all brothers and sisters.”Pope Francis concluded by praying that God may bless and protect the Palestinian President and grant him “the wisdom and strength needed to continue courageously along the path to peace, so that swords will be turned into ploughshares and this land will once more flourish in prosperity and concord.”

05/25/2014 - THE VATICAN INSIDER-Francis prays in silence before the Wall of division-THE POPE IN FRONT OF THE “WALL OF SHAME”A significant unscheduled stop: he has the popemobile stop and prays in silence before the security barrier erected by the Israeli government, resting his forehead upon it-Gianni Valente

BETHLEHEM-Pope Francis has touched the Wall of Shame. In a resounding unscheduled stop during his visit to the Holy Land, before the Mass in Bethlehem’s Manger Square, the Bishop of Rome asked to be driven in front of a point of the cement barrier that Israel has been constructing since 2002 and that runs largely through Palestinian occupied territory, contravening international laws. There, Pope Francis remained a few minutes in total silence, surrounded by a group of young Palestinians. It was a silence that said more than a thousand speeches could, before the wall that, as the Mayor of Bethlehem Vera Baboun has said, also separates the Birthplace of Jesus from the place of his Resurrection. With his silent gesture, Pope Francis brought before the conscience of the world the wall erected unilaterally by the Israeli government as a protective barrier against terrorism, which itself has become a global symbol of injustice and oppression. The barrier extends for over 700 km, and in some points reaches 28 km over the “green line” – the Israeli border prior to the war in 1967 – to encompass Israeli settlements. By doing this, Israel has made it architectonically impossible to reverse the occupation and settlement of large areas of Palestinian land. In May 2004, construction of the barrier led to the clearing of 100 thousand olive and citrus fruit trees, the demolition of green houses, irrigation plants and storage units and the confiscation of thousands of square kilometres of land belonging to Arab families. In addition to the UN resolutions, the International Court of Justice in The Hague has defined the construction of the wall and the effects it has on the lives of the local population as “against international law”.The wall divides the lives of the communities in two, cuts off the horizon and suppresses freedom of movement, it prevents the farmers from accessing their lands and keeps families apart. The Christian communities of the Beit Jala district next to Bethlehem, also suffer greatly from it, and have been involved in a legal battle with the Israeli Court to prevent the wall from begin extended along its planned route and eviscerating the Cremisan Valley, between Bethlehem and Jerusalem, a precious “green lung” for the entire region. If the project goes ahead, the four hundred children that attend the local school of Salesian Sisters will be forced to spend their childhoods in a sort of open air prison, surrounded by barriers and check-points. Some time ago, rumours spread of a Vatican nulla osta,or order not to oppose the construction on lands confiscated from the Palestinians and Salesian religious communities, although this was not true.Since October 2011, the priests of the Latin parish of Beit Jala have been holding mass and reciting prayers among the olive groves of the Cremisan Valley, praying that the route of the Wall will be revised so that it will not massacre the valley. Last October, one of the priests had the chance to deliver a letter to Pope Francis, in which he denounced the “Wall of annexation” as one of the tools employed to “annex our land to Israel” and explained that today the Beit Jala area has been reduced to just “4 square kilometres, less than a third of its original size”.John Paul II spoke of the wall, to reiterate that “the Holy Land is in need of bridges not walls”. Pope Benedict XVI too, during his visit to Bethlehem, spoke strongly about the Wall “that comes into your lands, separating neighbours and dividing families.” Now Pope Francis’ gesture, in his silent overtness, embraces and questions everybody concerned, first and foremost the Israeli people who – as cardinal Pietro Parolin stated before leaving for the Holy Land, expressing the view of the Holy See – must be able to live in peace and security in the land that bears their name.Without proclamations, without invectives, the Pope “taken” almost to the end of the earth, moves amongst the visible signs of the wounds opened by the Arab-Israeli conflict with unarmed liberty or shunning security measures. Without worrying about the misunderstandings fostered by prejudice. He embraces the sense of impotence of the Palestinian farmers with the same free expression with which tomorrow he will lay flowers at Mount Herzl, which takes its name from the founder of the Zionist movement. This is how Pope Francis looks upon the suffering, injustices and wounds of the world: with an unarmed liberty that questions the consciences of everyone, and is against no one.

Army Radio reports the calls of “God is Great” in Arabic were met with cheers of “Viva Il Papa” by the Christians. The mosque, a symbol of religious coexistence, was built where Omar Ibn El Khattab, a successor to Mohammed, visited Bethlehem in 637 after issuing an edict pledging safety to all Christians and clergy and respect for their shrines. Previous popes making Mideast pilgrimages always landed in Israel first and then travelled to the West Bank.Francis said: “The time has come to put an end to this situation which has become increasingly unacceptable.” He said both sides needed to make sacrifices to create two states, with internationally recognized borders, for the good of their own people. Throngs mass in Bethlehem to greet Pope-Masses gather in Bethlehem’s Manger Square to greet Pope Francis, after His Holiness arrived by helicopter from Amman.According to the Ynet news site, the Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories approved entry to Israel for 23,000 West Bank Palestinians, as well as 600 Gazan Christians.Meanwhile, outside the presidential palace in Bethlehem, the pope’s official open-topped vehicle awaits its occupant.

Pope Francis offers less-than-subtle nod to Palestinian state-In its official program for Pope Francis’s arrival in Bethlehem, the Vatican referred to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as the president of the “state of Palestine,” AP reports.“The fact that he is coming straight from Jordan to Bethlehem, without going through Israel,” is a tacit recognition of a Palestinian state, said Hanan Ashrawi, a Palestinian Christian who is a senior official in the Palestine Liberation Organization.
These moves are significant. The Palestinian Authority was recognized as an observer state by the UN General Assembly in November 2012, part of its efforts to obtain statehood without depending on peace talks with Israel. The added recognition of the spiritual leader of over a billion Catholics is undoubtedly helpful to these efforts.

Palestinian leaflet on pope visit focuses on security barrier-A leaflet produced by the Palestinian Authority (but labeled “State of Palestine” in keeping with the PA’s new claims to statehood after a November 2012 UN General Assembly recognition of “Palestine” as an observer state) shows the highlights of Pope Francis’s itinerary in Bethlehem, at least as the PA sees it.The leaflet (PDF) is dominated by a graphic representation of the Israeli security barrier and red-roofed Jewish settlements. The barrier is labeled “Annexation Wall,” the settlements sport construction cranes. If the pope’s delegation had any doubts about what the PA hoped to achieve from the pontiff’s visit, the leaflet should clarify the matter.Part of a Palestinian Authority leaflet showing the itinerary for Sunday's visit by Pope Francis, dominated by graphic representations of Israel's separation barrier and Jewish settlements. Israeli media disbelieving at pope’s lax security-Pope Francis is famously a man of the people. In the Vatican, he has refused to live in the plush residence of the Bishop of Rome. And he has refused to ride around Rome in the iconic — and bullet-proof — Pope-mobile.That humility has continued in Israel. Pope Francis has adamantly refused, much to the frustration of security-conscious Israeli officials, the kind of protective envelope Israel usually offers visiting officials, not to mention the spiritual leader of over a billion human beings. Francis has refused even the basic precaution of an armored vehicle, according to reports, complicating Israeli security officials’ efforts to stymie the unthinkable: an attack on the pope in the Holy Land.

Pope’s itinerary in Palestinian visit-Welcome to our live blog of Pope Francis’s visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories.Francis kicked off his much-anticipated Middle East visit on Saturday in Jordan, where he called on the international community to heed the plight of Syrians affected by the civil war there. Now he heads to Israel and the Palestinian territories for a series of meetings and stopovers at various sites, some of which are fraught with political significance.Ahead of the visit, the pope has received a lot of love, and no small amount of politics, from both Israel and the Palestinians. The pontiff is heading to Bethlehem by helicopter from Amman for a series of religious events and meetings with Palestinian leaders and children. In the afternoon, he will come to Israel, launching a day of visits to religious sites and meetings with Israeli leaders. The pope’s schedule Sunday in the Palestinian territories, as provided to journalists by Israel’s Government Press Office, is as follows. Based on the language, it seems safe to assume the schedule was originally written by Vatican officials:

8:30 – Departure for Bethlehem by helicopter from Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.

9:30 – Arrival ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Bethlehem, Courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority.

10:00 – Meeting with Palestinian Authority leaders. Discourse of the Holy Father.

11:00 – Holy Mass in Manger Square in Bethlehem. Homily of the Holy Father. Regina Coeli prayer. Allocution of the Holy Father.

15:00 – Private visit to the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

15:45 – Farewell ceremony from the Palestinian Authority at the Bethlehem helipad.

16:00 – Departure by helicopter from the Bethlehem helipad for Ben Gurion International Airport in Israel.

05/25/2014 - THE VATICAN INSIDER-Pope Francis puts peace at centre stage on his first day in the Holy Land-Pope Francis called on Saturday for an "urgent" end to the Syrian civil war-Francis emphasized the urgent need to end the war in Syria and to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He appealed to the international community to assist here, and to help Jordan respond to the refugee crisis-gerard o'connell
amman-Pope Francis is not a man who ignores problems and certainly not those that concern the life and welfare of people. He believes in confronting them and finding ways, in discussion with others, to resolve them.  On the first day of his “pilgrimage of prayer” to the Holy Land, he made abundantly clear that he is keeping to that strategy in relation to the conflicts and problems in the Middle East.Speaking at the Royal Palace in Amman shortly after arriving in this majority Muslim country of 6.3 million people, where he was warmly welcomed by King Abdallah as “the moral conscience of humanity”, he  went straight to the heart of the problems that torment Jordan and the entire Middle East region. He began by praising Jordan for offering “a generous welcome” to “great numbers” of Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as those from other troubled areas and in particular Syria.  The Government recently said that Jordan has given refuge to 1.3 million refugees.  The UNHCR say 600,000 of them from Syria.Pope Francis knows well that refugees are the sad product of conflicts, and so he went to the heart of the situations that produce refugees by calling for “lasting peace” in the Middle East.  He praised the Jordanian authorities for their efforts towards this goal, and went on to state clearly that this goal “requires that a peaceful solution be found to the crisis in Syria, as well as a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict”. In his homily at Mass in the International Stadium in Amman, before an enthusiastic crowd of 30,000,  Pope Francis reminded Christians that  the Spirit of Christ, which has come to them through baptism and is given to Christians, is a Spirit that creates harmony and peace “in different situations and between different people”. He reminded this small Christian community  (around 2-3% of the population) which has been here since apostolic times and which, he said, enjoy full religious freedom, that they are “sent as messengers and witnesses of peace”. But, Pope Francis reminded them that “peace is not something which can be bought; it is a gift to be sought patiently and to be ‘crafted’ through the actions, great and small, of our everyday life”.  Indeed, he said, “the way of peace is strengthened if we realize that we are all of the same stock and members of one human family; if we never forget that we have the same heavenly father and are all his children, made in his image and likeness”. As he concluded that homily, he had a special word of “affection” for the many Christian refugees from Palestine, Syria and Iraq”, and assured them of his “closeness to them”.Late that same evening, he met 600 refugees at the Latin church in Bethany-beyond-the Jordan, and told them, “I have greatly desired to meet with you who have had to leave your homes and your country as a result of violence and conflict”.He told these refugees from Iraq, Syria, Palestine and other lands, and the young people with disabilities whom he also met at the same time, that he was “profoundly affected by the tragedies and sufferings of our times, particularly those caused by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East”, and especially by the three-year long conflict in Syria “which has caused countless deaths and forced millions to flee and seek exile in other countries”.  An estimated 140,000 have been killed in the war in Syria and around 4 million have been forced to leave the homes and many of them their country. There at Bethany beyond the Jordan, in his meeting with the young refugees, he again praised Jordan for its great generosity in opening to the refugees and he implored the international community “not to leave Jordan alone” in meeting this “humanitarian emergency”.  He renewed  his “appeal for peace in Syria”, “for the violence to cease” and for “respect for the humanitarian law” in that war torn country where this law is violated on a massive scale. there.   He prayed that “all parties” would “abandon the attempt to resolve issues by the use of arms, and return to negotiations” and insisted that a political solution can only be found “through dialogue and restraint”.  He asked the young people with disabilities and the refugees to offer their sufferings and prayers for this goal.He appealed yet again to the international community to help Syria “rediscover the path of peace”, and he prayed that God “may change the hearts of the violent and those who seek war”, “and convert those who make and sell arms that feed wars”, and  “strengthen the hearts and minds of peace makers”.IKing Abdallah of Jordan, welcoming at the Royal Palace, had hailed him as “the moral conscience of humanity” and told him “your humanity and wisdom can make a special contribution to easing the crisis of Syrian refugees and the burden on host neighboring host countries like Jordan”.  Furthermore, the King said, “your actions and support also continue to needed to help Israelis and Palestinians resolve their long conflict”.It is already clear that Pope Francis intends to do everything in his power, by word and gesture, in the coming days to work towards that goal. The Palestinians have high hopes that he can help them have their own state, with justice and peace.  The Israelis hope he can somehow assist them onto the path of lasting peace with security.  Since everybody knows that this Pope is a man of action as much as words, Israelis and Palestinians alike will be listening attentively to what he says, and will watch carefully what he does as he moves among them. His one day in Jordan went splendidly well, and underlined yet again how this Kingdom is an example to the world of Christian-Muslim relations.  The next two days will be a much greater challenge.

Pope Francis prays at Bethlehem wall, calls for Middle East peace

Pope Francis waves upon his arrival at the West Bank town of Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, West Bank (Reuters) - Pope Francis made a surprise stop at the hulking wall Palestinians see as a symbol of Israeli oppression on Sunday, minutes after begging both sides to end a conflict that he said was no longer acceptable. In an image set to become one of the most emblematic of his trip to the holy land, a somber-looking Francis rested his forehead against the concrete structure that separates Bethlehem from Jerusalem, and prayed silently as a child holding a Palestinian flag looked on.He stood at a spot where someone had sprayed in red paint "Free Palestine". Above his head was graffiti in broken English reading: "Bethlehem look like Warsaw Ghetto", comparing the Palestinian plight with that of the Jews under the Nazis.Israel says the barrier, erected 10 years ago during a spate of Palestinian suicide bombings, is needed to secure its security. Palestinians see it as a bid by Israel to partition off territory and grab land they want for their future state. On the second leg of a three-day trip to the Middle East, Francis delighted his Palestinian hosts by referring to the "state of Palestine", giving support for their bid for full statehood recognition in the face of a paralyzed peace process. But, speaking at the birthplace of Jesus in the Palestinian-run city of Bethlehem in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, he made clear that a negotiated accord was needed, calling on leaders from both sides to overcome their myriad divisions.Francis invited the Israeli and Palestinian presidents to come to the Vatican to pray for an end to the enduring conflict, just a month after the collapse of U.S.-backed peace talks."In this, the birthplace of the Prince of Peace, I wish to invite you, President Mahmoud Abbas, together with President Shimon Peres, to join me in heartfelt prayer to God for the gift of peace," the Pope said at an open-air Mass in Bethlehem.A spokeswoman for Peres said in Jerusalem that the president "always accepts any kind of initiative to promote peace". While Abbas heads the Palestinian government, Peres's post is largely ceremonial and he is due to leave office in July.

PROTEST

Francis had flown by helicopter to Bethlehem from Jordan, where he started his tour on Saturday, becoming the first pontiff to travel directly to the West Bank rather than enter via Israel - another nod to Palestinian statehood aspirations. He was due to travel to Israel later in the day for a swirl of meetings, with some 8,000 police deployed in Jerusalem to guarantee his security.Israeli police said they arrested 26 people who took part in a protest early on Sunday by Jewish nationalists at the Cenacle in Jerusalem, the traditional site of Jesus's Last Supper, where Francis is due to hold a Mass on Monday. The protesters say the authorities are preparing to hand the Church the site, where some Jews believe King David is buried. The Israeli government has denied any such deal.Israel has blamed the Palestinian president for the failure of the latest peace talks, but standing alongside Abbas, Francis pointedly referred to him as "a man of peace and a peacemaker".Although the Vatican said the primary purpose of this visit was religious, political overtones were ever present.A mural behind the altar at the Bethlehem Mass showed Jesus, who was a Jew, swaddled in a Palestinian keffiyeh, with his father, Joseph, also wearing the black and white headdress, made famous by the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.Pictures equating Palestinian suffering with that of Christ dotted the city. The pope was later due to meet refugees at a camp set up after the 1948 creation of Israel, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled, or were forced to abandon their homes. To avoid a diplomatic tangle, Francis will then get back in his helicopter and fly to Tel Aviv airport for a welcoming reception from Israeli leaders, rather than drive the short distance to Jerusalem.Israel calls Jerusalem its eternal and undivided capital, having annexed Arab neighborhoods seized in the 1967 war, including the Old City, the site of the main religious shrines. The rest of the world has not recognized the annexation. From Tel Aviv, he will fly to Jerusalem for what he has said is the main purpose of the trip - to commemorate the 50th anniversary of a historic meeting of Catholic and Orthodox Christian leaders, who moved to end centuries of bitter divisions between the two churches.(Writing by Crispian Balmer; Editing by Peter Graff)

Pope Calls to End 'Unacceptable' Arab-Israeli Conflict-Pope Francis begins expected 'charm offensive' towards both Israel and the PA as he arrives from Jordan; backs 'two-state solution'.

Pope Francis on Sunday urged an end to the "increasingly unacceptable" Israeli-Palestinian conflict, calling on leaders to show "courage" to achieve a peace based on a two-state solution."The time has come to put an end to this situation which has become increasingly unacceptable," he said in the Judean town of Bethlehem where Christians believe Jesus was born."The time has come for everyone to find the courage... to forge a peace which rests on the acknowledgement by all of the right of two states to exist and to live in peace and security within internationally recognised borders."Pope Francis arrived in Bethlehem Sunday to begin the most sensitive part of his three-day Middle East tour aimed at easing an ancient rift with Orthodox Christians and forging regional peace. He made the short trip from Amman, where he began his visit Saturday, aboard a Jordanian military helicopter. The pontiff appeared tired as he was helped down the steps to a red carpet welcome from local Palestinian Authority officials and priests.Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas received him at his palace with a warm embrace.Francis, who made an urgent appeal Saturday to end the bloodshed in Syria, has now taken his "pilgrimage of prayer" to Palestinian Authority-controlled areas. There he was to celebrate mass with 10,000 people in Bethlehem's packed Manger Square, near the site which Christians say was Jesus' birthplace. He is scheduled to begin his official Israeli visit later Sunday.Although Francis himself has said it will be a "purely religious trip," both Israel and the PA will be looking to use the visit to score a few political points. The Vatican said the main reason for the visit was a meeting in Jerusalem with Bartholomew I, the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople, seeking to heal a nearly 1,000-year rift between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. But ahead of the trip, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin defended the Palestinian Arabs' right to a "sovereign and independent" homeland and said he hoped Francis's visit would lead to "courageous decisions" for peace. Since dawn, Catholic pilgrims filed past security barriers into Manger Square. The scene was dominated by stage where the pope was to say mass, decked with huge PLO and Vatican flags and adorned with a giant tableau depicting the birth of Jesus. To get there, the crowd-loving pope will drive through the city in an open-top car, raising security concerns in a region racked by political and religious strife.Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, police arrested 26 Jewish protesters at a site on Mount Zion where the pope will celebrate mass on Monday. Earlier this week, police imposed restraining orders on 15 activists, barring them from sites the pope will visit. Jewish groups are angry over persistent rumors that the Israel government is planning to hand over control of King David's Tomb to the Vatican, despite repeated denials by Israeli officials.Overnight, police with sniffer dogs combed the narrow streets of the Old City, closely examining the stone alleyways down which the pontiff was to walk later Sunday. In a separate development, Israel's foreign ministry confirmed that two of the three people shot dead in an attack Saturday on the Jewish museum in Brussels were Israeli tourists. The incident has drawn condemnation from top Israeli and European officials.

'Charm offensive'

John Allen, an expert on the Vatican at the Boston Globe, said the pope was likely to "charm" both sides during the Israeli-PA leg of his visit."Francis comes in with a lot of political capital. He's sort of a new Nelson Mandela, a new moral authority on the world stage."The question is: can he spend that moral capital to shame both sides into talking to each other? You might be able to get a public commitment to resume dialogue. It's the most we can expect."US-led peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian Authority negotiators collapsed last month amid bitter recriminations, ending a nine-month bid to reach a negotiated solution, with no political initiative on the horizon.Travelling with the Argentine pontiff are two of his old friends from Buenos Aires - Rabbi Abraham Skorka and Islamic studies professor Omar Abboud - in a symbolic gesture of openness.

'Contribution to peace'

After celebrating mass, the pope will have lunch with several Palestinian Arab families then meet with children at the entrance to Dheishe refugee camp.During the afternoon, he will take a short flight to Tel Aviv where he will be formally welcomed to Israel by President Shimon Peres before flying on to Jerusalem. "I don't think the visit is going to bring the signing of a peace deal tomorrow... but I am sure that it will make a substantial contribution, because the pope respects all cultures and all religions," Peres told French daily Le Figaro. It is inside Jerusalem's walled Old City that he will attend a special joint prayer service with Bartholomew in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre - venerated  by Christians as the place of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection.

Abbas Accuses Israel of 'Judaizing' Jerusalem in Papal Meeting-'Religious, not political' visit takes decidedly political turn Sunday, after PA accuses Israel of 'judaization' and Pope calls PA a state.-By AFP and Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 5/25/2014, 1:09 PM / Last Update: 5/25/2014, 2:27 PM-IsraelNationalNews

Pope Francis met with Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem Sunday, in a historic meeting that saw Abbas accuse Israel of "Judaizing" Jerusalem. During the meeting, Abbas insisted that Israel is "systematically acting to change [Jerusalem's] identity and character, and strangling the Palestinians, both Christians and Muslims, with the aim of pushing them out."Earlier, Pope Francis addressed what he called "the State of Palestine," according to Ma'an, calling Abbas "a man of peace." In his speech, he called for a two-state solution and an end to the Israeli-Palestinian Arab conflict, which he deemed "unacceptable.""The time has come for everyone to find the courage... to forge a peace which rests on the acknowledgement by all of the right of two states to exist and to live in peace and security within internationally recognized borders," he urged. The pope also paused for several moments in front of a graffiti on the security wall in Bethlehem, bowing his head in prayer in front of a message proclaiming, "Pope we need to see someone to speak about justice. Bethlehem look like Warsaw ghetto. Free Palestine." Pope Francis invited both Abbas and Israeli President Shimon Peres on Sunday to his home in the Vatican for a "heartfelt prayer" for peace."I wish to invite you, president Mahmud Abbas, together with President Shimon Peres, to join me in heartfelt prayer to God for the gift of peace," he said at the end of an open-air mass in Manger Square in Bethlehem."I offer my home in the Vatican as a place for this encounter of prayer," he said. "Building peace is difficult, but living without peace is a constant torment. The men and women of these lands, and of the entire world, all of them, ask us to bring before God their fervent hopes for peace." According to the Washington Post, both Peres and Abbas accepted the invite Sunday afternoon.

Political or apolitical?

Although Francis himself has said it will be a "purely religious trip," both Israel and the PA will be looking to use the visit to score a few political points. Rabbi Sergio Bergman, a member of the Argentinian parliament and close friend of Pope Francis, reported in February that the pope intends to define himself as the "Che Guevera of the Palestinians" and support their "struggle and rights" during his visit. It has been noted that the pope has been remarkably tight-lipped over the violent persecution of Christians in Bethlehem, instead choosing to condemn alleged Jewish "price tag" vandalism.

Vatican Says Pope Will Demand 'Sovereign Palestine'-Vatican's Secretary of State says pope during visit will talk about 'Palestinian right to sovereign, independent homeland.'By Ari Yashar-First Publish: 5/22/2014, 7:11 PM-IsraelnationalNews

The Vatican's Secretary of State made a dramatic revelation ahead of Pope Francis's visit to Israel next Sunday and Monday, declaring that the pope will talk about the "Palestinian people's right to have a homeland, sovereign and independent."Cardinal Pietro Parolin holds a role in the Vatican City State, located in the Italian capital of Rome, equivalent to that of a prime minister. Speaking to Vatican television on Thursday, he said "we know that the pope is going to a particularly suffering land," reports AFP."I really hope that the fruit will be to help politicians and all people of good will take courageous decisions on the path to peace," Parolin stated. When asked what the pope particularly intends to talk about during the visit, Parolin revealed he would talk about "on the one hand, Israel's right to exist in peace and security within internationally recognized boundaries."On the other side, the pope would talk about "the Palestinian people's right to have a homeland, sovereign and independent, the right to move around freely, the right to live in dignity," according to Parolin. In fact, the Vatican recognized the "State of Palestine" in 2012 amid the United Nations (UN) vote to confer "Palestine" non-member observer state status, a status until then only held by the Vatican.Despite the pope's insistence that his visit is "religious not political," his decision to begin his trip from Jordan directly by helicopter with a stop in Palestinian Authority (PA) controlled Bethlehem has been greeted by Arab sources as a move to "recognize Palestine" and help "end the occupation."Rabbi Sergio Bergman, a member of the Argentinian parliament and close friend of Pope Francis, reported in February that the pope intends to define himself as the "Che Guevera of the Palestinians" and support their "struggle and rights" during his visit. It has been noted that the pope has been remarkably tight-lipped over the violent persecution of Christians in Bethlehem, instead choosing to condemn alleged Jewish "price tag" vandalism.

"Holy Father" asked to pressure Israel to let priests enter without IDF permission

On Thursday it was announced that 650 Christians from Gaza would be allowed to leave the Islamist-ruled enclave to travel to Judea and Samaria for the pope's visit. However, 20 priests from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, which presides over Arab Catholic communities in Judea and Samaria, wrote the pope a letter on Thursday, complaining that they had not been allowed to enter Jerusalem without IDF permission."According to the State of Israel, the illegal occupier, we do not have the right to travel to Jerusalem without permission from the Israeli army," the Arab priests said in the letter. In the letter, the priests claimed the Vatican had given them passes to enter Jerusalem which Israel hasn't stamped with visas. The IDF monitors passage over the 1949 Armistice lines."Jerusalem is becoming increasingly closed off to Christians from the West Bank," the letter added, calling for the pope to pressure Israel to submit on controlling passage on its own borders. The letter concluded "can the Holy Father be in the Holy Land without saying anything about the reality of injustice against an entire people held prisoner on its own land?"

Controversy, both religious and political

Another point of contention about the pope's visit is the status of the David's Tomb Compound in Jerusalem. While numerous government officials - including Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman and Israel's Sephardic Chief Rabbi - have denied control of the holy site will be transferred to the Vatican, reports have revealed a plan to indirectly transfer the site.Rabbi Avraham Goldstein, the Rosh Yeshiva (dean) of the Diaspora Yeshiva located in the Compound, revealed what he said were much more underhand plans than a straightforward hand-over. "According to the information we have...the state will be allowing the Church to conduct Mass on the upper floor; then according to Jewish law (halakha) Jews will not be able to pray downstairs (either), since on the upper floor there will be idol worship," the rabbi said. Jewish law forbids benefiting from anything - including a structure or shelter - used for idol-worship. Catholic effigies and other rituals fall under the Jewish legal definition of idol worship, meaning that the establishment of a permanent Catholic place of prayer in the Compound would effectively prevent Jews from conducting their own services in the entire building.A Catholic official confirmed the Vatican's intentions to put those very plans into effect, telling the Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday that the Vatican wants "to hold two hours of [Christian] prayer every day in the early morning before visitors start to visit it."

Muslim Brotherhood Entity in US Boasts of Gov’t Embrace-When Bin Laden was killed, the Muslim American Society defended his goal of creating an Islamic state in Afghanistan.-By Ryan Mauro-Tue, April 22, 2014

The Muslim American Society, which federal prosecutors confirm was “founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America,” is boasting on its new website of how it’s been embraced by the U.S. government and major interfaith groups. This is shocking, especially since the reaction of MAS to Bin Laden’s death was to defend his goal of creating an Islamic state in Afghanistan. The renovated MAS website emphasizes its work with law enforcement, the federal government, members of Congress, charities and interfaith organizations. Unlike its previous website, it does not try to address questions about its links to the Muslim Brotherhood and beliefs about the Caliphate and sharia in America. There is little dispute that MAS is a Muslim Brotherhood entity. A Chicago Tribune investigation in 2004 confirmed it, as did senior U.S. Muslim Brotherhood operative Abdurrahman Alamoudi after he was convicted on terrorism-related charges. In 2012, he testified, “Everyone knows that MAS is the Muslim Brotherhood.”In 2008, federal prosecutors said in a court filing that “MAS was founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.” The prosecutors also accused MAS and a related organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), of being deceptive. They said the groups “omit reference to a shared background that limits their membership to those of a particular political bent, and undercuts their credibility.”

Yet, somehow the MAS is treated well by the U.S. government. Its website claims it has even received taxpayer money by winning a federal grant through the President’s Faith Based Initiative Program. In January 2010, MAS joined a group of Muslim organizations (including the Islamic Society of North America, another Brotherhood entity) in meeting with Department of Homeland Security officials, including then-Secretary Janet Napolitano. The MAS website the meetings’ purpose was to “discuss joint efforts against domestic violent extremists, and to work with the government to address community concerns about DHS policies, such as racial, ethnic, and religious profiling at airports and borders.”It also claims it trained over 1,500 federal, state and local law enforcement officers on dealing with the Muslim-American community. The Justice Department honored the MAS Outreach Director with an award. MAS says it has trained over 7,000 civic and community activists and hosted a Muslim Community Action Forum with the Governor of Massachusetts.MAS is very involved in political activism. It is part of a new political coalition of Islamist groups including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Islamic Circle of North America, Muslim Alliance in North America and American Muslims for Palestine. The objective is to consolidate the Muslim-American vote behind their subtlety-radical agendas. There is national media recognition of MAS’ Center for Civic Empowerment and its Voting is Power Program. It has also distributed the “first American Muslim ‘Four Year Legislative Agenda’ ” to congressional offices.Like the other American Islamist groups, MAS is building credibility by allying with interfaith groups. The website says the MAS leadership is on the boards of the following groups:

Steering Committee of Religious Non-Governmental Organizations at the United Nations
Harvard University’s Islam in the West Program, Muslims in Boston Survey,
The Interfaith Alliance
Inter-religious Council for Public Life
Center for Jewish Muslim Relations
Religions for Peace
Interfaith Workers Justice
Washington D.C. Mayor’s Office on Metropolitan Ministries
The Temple of Understanding (hosted by the United Nations)

Part of the reason for MAS’s success is because it is skilled with semantics. The Tribune investigators came across a MAS memo that told members to condemn the vague term of “terrorism,” with the unstated understanding that the term does not include acts of jihad. This is in accordance with the doctrines of taqiyya and tawriya, which permit outright lying in some circumstances and, in other cases, the use of deceptive answers that are designed to give a false impression without crossing the threshold into being a clear lie.MAS officials have thought carefully about how to present the group as independent. Former MAS president Esam Omeish said, “The Brotherhood does not exist as far as we know in the United States,” but, “We still view them as a good ally.” The Tribune reported on an undated MAS memo that told members to answer questions about its Brotherhood affiliate by saying, “It [MAS] is a self-explanatory name that does not need further explanation.”After Osama Bin Laden was killed in 2011, MAS issued a press release authored by Khalilah Sabra that endorsed Bin Laden’s goal of creating an Islamic state. It described him as:
“…a visionary who believed in the possibility of an Islamic state in Afghanistan, and the possibility that this thing might someday be. There was nothing wrong with that dream, even if it differs from one that all Americans have here for themselves.”It again endorsed “that dream of a pure and merciful Islamic state in a Muslim land,” but said Bin Laden “created a nightmare on September 11, 2001” and “became someone we did not know and could not understand.”MAS subsequently retracted the press release, saying it “does not represent in any way the position of the Muslim American Society and its leadership” and an internal review had begun. It then condemned terrorism, hate and injustice — but it did not condemn Bin Laden’s vision of an Islamic state. It was another example of tawriya. There’s something clearly wrong when the government embraces the MAS—the same government whose prosecutors said it was “founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.” Either there is a serious information-sharing problem or the officials in charge simply don’t care about the history of MAS. Neither answer gives us reason to have confidence in the government on this issue.Ryan Mauro is the ClarionProject.org’s National Security Analyst, a fellow with the Clarion Project and is frequently interviewed on top-tier TV stations as an expert on counterterrorism and Islamic extremism.

LISTEN: Pope to Peres: I look forward to our meeting in the Holy Land-Pontiff sends regards to people of Israel on way to Jordan to kick off regional tour; calls for peaceful solution to Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Syria crisis-By AFP, AP and Times of Israel staff May 24, 2014, 5:50 pm
http://www.timesofisrael.com/pope-to-peres-i-look-forward-to-meeting-with-you-in-the-holy-land/

Pope Francis sent his good wishes to President Shimon Peres and to the Israeli people via his pilot as he flew to neighboring Jordan on Saturday to kick off his regional tour.“I send good wishes to you and all the people of Israel. I look forward to meeting with you and visiting the Holy Land,” the pope told Peres, as relayed to his pilot when they overflew Israel, according to Channel 2.Pope Francis arrived in Jordan early Saturday afternoon to embark on a Middle East tour aimed at boosting ties with Muslims and Jews as well as easing an age-old rift within Christianity. On Sunday, he will visit the Palestinian territories before heading on to Israel.Francis will spend Monday in Jerusalem, visiting the grand mufti of Jerusalem and Israel’s chief rabbis, albeit separately. He will also pray at the Western Wall and visit the Holocaust memorial at Yad Vashem. In Amman earlier Saturday, Francis urged respect for religious freedom in the Middle East and an end to persecution of Christians, saying they were “full citizens” with a right to be in the region.“Religious freedom is in fact a fundamental human right and I cannot fail to express my hope that it will be upheld throughout the Middle East and the entire world,” he said.“Christians consider themselves, and indeed are, full citizens.”The pope also thanked Jordanian King Abdullah II, his wife Queen Rania, and the Jordanian people on Saturday for welcoming hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria, calling for an “urgent,” peaceful solution to the conflict in the neighboring nation. In his palace speech, Francis said Jordan’s “generous welcome” to Syrian refugees warranted international appreciation and support.“I thank the authorities of the kingdom for all they are doing and I encourage them to persevere in their efforts to seek lasting peace for the entire region,” Francis said. “This goal urgently requires that a peaceful solution be found to the crisis in Syria, as well as a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”“The status-quo of ‘justice denied’ to the Palestinians; fear of the other; fear of change; these are the way to mutual ruin, not mutual respect,” said the pontiff. On the flight from Rome to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman early Saturday morning, the pope told journalists that the trip would be “challenging,” but rewarding. The 77-year-old pope said he felt like the Biblical prophet Daniel heading to the lions’ den.“I feel like Daniel, but now I know that the lions don’t bite,” he said, a reference to his visit to a region roiled by political and religious division.“My heart beats and is looking to love,” he said.Despite a cold and fatigue that forced him to cancel some recent appointments, Francis seemed in fine health on the flight and greeted each of the reporters traveling with him one-by-one, even posing for a “selfie” photograph.Upon landing in Amman, the pontiff smiled as he walked down the steps from his plane and was greeted by a military salute as he shook hands with political and religious dignitaries, before receiving bouquets of flowers from two children dressed in traditional Jordanian costume. From the airport, the pope was whisked off to meet with the king and queen. As his white car drove through the streets towards the royal palace, well-wishers waved Jordanian and Vatican flags and held up banners welcoming him, under the watchful eye of security guards.Later Saturday, he was then due to celebrate his first mass in the region at a stadium in the Jordanian capital before meeting Syrian refugees on the banks of the River Jordan, where Christians believe Jesus was baptized. The Vatican has billed Francis’ first visit to a region roiled by religious and political differences as a “pilgrimage of prayer,” saying the pope will shun bulletproof vehicles in favor of open-top cars despite security concerns.Israeli authorities have moved to lessen the possibility of trouble by ordering 15 right-wing Jewish activists to stay away from places being visited by the pope, after a string of hate attacks on Christian sites.“It will be a purely religious trip,” the pope told pilgrims at his last general audience in St Peter’s Square before a three-day visit that takes him to Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Israel.Francis said the main reasons for the trip were to meet with the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I and “to pray for peace in that land, which has suffered so much”.A joint prayer service with Bartholomew Sunday in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre — venerated as the place of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection — is seen by the Vatican as the highlight of the visit. The meeting is fitting, given that Francis has made the ideal of unity of the Christian Churches, one of the priorities of his papacy.Peres, in an interview with French daily Le Figaro, said he attached “great importance” to the pope’s trip, calling Francis “a man of noble humility.”“I don’t think the visit is going to bring the signing of a peace deal tomorrow, or even the organisation of a conference, but I am sure that it will make a substantial contribution because the pope respects all cultures and all religions,” he said. The 77-year-old Argentine pope has already set the tone for a trip rich in symbolism by inviting two old friends from Buenos Aires to join him, Jewish Rabbi Abraham Skorka and Muslim professor Omar Abboud.Earlier Saturday, cheering Jordanian Christians piled onto buses from churches across the country on Saturday, heading for an Amman stadium where Pope Francis will celebrate the first mass of a Middle East tour.“We are thrilled the pope is coming. He will bring love and peace for the Arab world,” said Sister Rachel, 77, dressed in her best habit.“We are already singing for him to become a saint,” she told AFP, adding that seven buses would be leaving from churches in the hill town of Mataba alone. In the stadium, which can fit up to 30,000 people, thousands of blue and red chairs were laid out in front of a large altar, behind which hung photographs of John Paul II and John XXIII, who were made saints by Francis this month.Christian refugees from Syria, Palestine and Iraq will attend the mass, during which some 1,400 children will receive their first communion.“This is huge, I’m so excited Pope Francis is coming. We’re really going to make him feel welcome,” said Veronica Moutaame, as groups began gathering under a huge banner of a smiling Francis with King Abdullah II outside the stadium.“This is a historic visit, we’re really proud to have him here,” said Michel Haddad, who was being joined later by his wife and two young children.Sister Rachel, who will have seen all four popes to have visited Jordan — Paul VI, John Paul II, Benedict XVI and now Francis — said the Argentinian’s presence was especially important because of his dedication to the downtrodden.“This pope is special. He only wants to see the poor and the diseased. He is the protector of the helpless,” she said.

Outreach’ and ‘interfaith’ buzzwords for Pope’s Israel trip-Argentina’s Rabbi Abraham Skorka and Sheik Omar Abboud join former colleague on visit; pinnacle to be ecumenical joint prayer service at Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulcher-By Ruth Ellen Gruber May 24, 2014, 4:48 am 5-The Times of Israel

ROME (JTA) – With a rabbi and a Muslim sheik as his travel companions, Pope Francis is heading to the Middle East with what he hopes will be a powerful message of interfaith respect. It will be the first time that leaders of other faiths are part of an official papal delegation. The aim is to send “an extremely strong and explicit signal” about interfaith dialogue and the “normality” of having friends of other religions, chief Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi told reporters.Starting Saturday, the three-day pilgrimage will take the 77-year-old pontiff to Jordan, the West Bank and Israel. The packed agenda includes courtesy calls on government leaders; open-air Masses; meetings with Christian, Muslim and Jewish religious authorities; and visits to holy sites of the three religions. The two men joining Francis are friends with whom the pope frequently collaborated when he was the archbishop of Buenos Aires: Rabbi Abraham Skorka, former rector of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary in Buenos Aires, and Sheik Omar Abboud, a former secretary-general of the Islamic Center of Argentina.“I don’t expect Francis to wave a magic wand and bring together Jews and Palestinians,” Skorka told the Italian Catholic newspaper Avvenire. “But his charisma and his great humility can give a powerful message of peace for the whole Middle East.”Since being elected to the papacy in February 2013, Francis, the first non-European pope in more than 1,200 years, has become known — and widely hailed — for breaking protocol, shunning the grand trappings of papal power and reaching out to the faithful on a personal level.    ‘On his upcoming trip, Francis has insisted that he will not travel in a bulletproof vehicle or special Popemobile’On his upcoming trip, Francis has insisted that he will not travel in a bulletproof vehicle or special Popemobile. Rather, he’ll get around in “a normal car or open-topped jeep” in order to be closer to the people who come out to greet him, according to the Vatican spokesman.Eric Greenberg, the director of communications, outreach and interfaith for the Multi-Faith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, said Francis’ ability to captivate world media means every step of his visit will be watched closely.“There will be opportunities to deepen the important bilateral relationship between Catholics and Jews, and to boost the larger dialogue among Catholics, Jews and Muslims,” Greenberg said.‘There will be opportunities to deepen the important bilateral relationship between Catholics and Jews, and to boost the larger dialogue among Catholics, Jews and Muslims’Francis will begin his trip in Jordan and proceed the next day by helicopter to Bethlehem for a 6 1/2-hour stay. He will meet there with Palestinian officials, celebrate an open-air Mass in Manger Square and visit with children from Palestinian refugee camps. The official Vatican program says the pope will be visiting ‘the state of Palestine’The official Vatican program says the pope will be visiting “the state of Palestine,” which has prompted rumors that the Vatican may announce recognition of an independent Palestinian state. From Bethlehem, Francis will fly by helicopter to Ben Gurion Airport and then to Jerusalem. He will visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust center and the Western Wall, where like his predecessors Benedict XVI and John Paul II, he will leave a message in a crack between the stones. The pope also will visit Christian sites and the Temple Mount, a site that is sacred to both Jews and Muslims and the locus of recent clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians protesting Jewish visitors. In recent years, the Vatican has made the state of Christians in the Middle East a priority issue. Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, the top Roman Catholic clergyman in the Holy Land, said this month that the recent spate of anti-Christian graffiti attacks by Israeli Jewish extremists “poisons the atmosphere of coexistence” surrounding the papal visit. He chided Israeli authorities for not cracking down.Rabbi David Rosen, the American Jewish Committee’s international director for interreligious affairs, said the media attention resulting from the papal trip has prompted some action to be taken against the extremists.Francis will be the fourth reigning pope to visit Jerusalem. His trip marks the 50th anniversary of the first papal visit to the Holy Land, Pope Paul VI’s pilgrimage in January 1964. On the trip, Paul’s meeting in Jerusalem with Patriarch Athenagoras, the spiritual leader of Orthodox Christians, was a major first step toward reconciling the 1,000-year rift between Western and Eastern Christianity.

The centerpiece of Francis’ stay will be his meeting with Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew

The centerpiece of Francis’ stay will be his meeting with Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew and an ecumenical joint prayer service with leaders of other Christian churches in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.Paul’s trip, the first by a reigning pope outside of Italy, came in a vastly different context than today in terms of Jewish-Catholic and Vatican-Israel relations. The visit came one year before the Second Vatican Council promulgated its Nostra Aetate declaration, which opened the way to interreligious dialogue between Catholics and Jews.It also took place decades before the Vatican and Israel established diplomatic relations with a Fundamental Agreement signed at the end of 1993. During his stay in Jerusalem, Paul did not even pronounce the word “Israel.”For the past 20 years, Israel and the Holy See have attempted to reach agreement on several outstanding bilateral issues, including establishing the juridical rights of the Catholic Church in Israel as well as regulating property and taxation issues.Just ahead of the pope’s visit, Israeli officials quashed rumors that Israel planned to transfer the Cenacle — the site where Jesus’ Last Supper took place — to the Vatican. Francis is to celebrate Mass at the Cenacle, which is revered by Christians.Jews venerate the site as King David’s Tomb, and on May 12, hundreds of haredi Orthodox protested there demanding that Israel retain control. It is impossible to separate bilateral Israel-Vatican relations from Catholic-Jewish relations-All of these factors and more mean that it is impossible to separate bilateral Israel-Vatican relations from Catholic-Jewish relations, the AJC’s Rosen says.Papal visits to Israel, he said, demonstrate “the remarkable new Catholic and Christian positive affirmation of the roots of its identity and its commitment to the welfare of the Jewish people.”Moreover, he said, “I greatly hope that there will still be an opportunity for an interfaith encounter with local representatives of the faiths communities in this land somewhere on the papal itinerary. I actually think that to bring along an Argentinian rabbi and imam is very nice, but if there is no interfaith meeting with the locals, it might be seen locally as rather disingenuous.”

05/24/2014 - VATICAN INSIDER-Pope speaks to journalists on flight to Amman and Padua prisoners pray for him-The Pope boards the Rome-Amman flight-Francis asked an Israeli journalist to “protect” his Palestinian colleague during the trip-ANDREA TORNIELLI

on the Rome-AMMAN flight-“I thank you so much for your services and I pray for you,” Francis told journalists on board the papal flight that is heading for the Holy Land. As he did back in July 2013 when he travelled to Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day, Francis did not hold the press conference on the on the outbound flight, announcing instead that he would speak to journalists on the return flight, on Monday evening. “Although some of you said it wouldn’t be possible to hold a press conference after such a tiring trip, we will have one on the way back.”“As I once said, I am like a lamb among lions but I know lions don’t bite,” the Pope joked.“This is going to be a very busy trip for you too; you have to watch, think, write,” the Pope continued, before going to greet each of the journalists on board the flight, individually.Just a few minutes before departure from Rome’s Fiumicino airport, the President of the Italian social co-operative Giotto, which works with prisoners in the city of Padua, telephones us and asked us to tell the Pope that as of 9 am this morning, a group of inmates in Padua’s Due Palazzi prison, have been praying for the success of Francis’ trip.We told the Pope this and he smiled. He passed on his thanks and said: “With me on this trip, I am carrying a pastoral staff that some prisoners made for me.”Francis also greeted the Israeli and Palestinian journalists present on the flight: David Cohen Cymerman from Channel 2 and Imad Freij fromt he Catholic Center for Media Studies. They were sat beside each other. The Pope asked the Israeli journalist to cover this papal visit.Seeing Cymerman and his Palestinian colleague sitting side by side, Francis said to the former: “Please, protect him during this trip.”

05/24/2014 -THE VATICAN INSIDER-“A peace pact between all religions, with Francis”
Shimon Peres-Interview with Israel’s president, Shimon Peres: he has captured the spirit of the time-Maurizio Molinari-correspondent in jerusalem

A pale blue tie, measured words, quotes from Ben Gurion and the Vatican colours draped around the presidential residence: This is how Shimon Peres is preparing to welcome Pope Francis, whom he said, “captures the spirit of our times.” Two weeks before the end of his seven year tenure as President of Israel, the 90-year-old Labour leader took this interview as an opportunity to send out a message to Europe, Iran and Palestine but also to inform he world about what he intends to do as a citizen: “To make my voice heard.”

What role do the Pope and the Church play in the Middle East?

“The Pope captures the spirit of our times, his modesty overcomes divisions and misunderstandings. Francis’ new era is reflected in various contexts, not just the spiritual context but also the global economy, where goodwill matters more than power. Global actions and a global spirit meet; one is able to keep one’s own identity whilst allowing a person to be different. I don’t think peace will be achieved here because of the Pope’s visit alone but I believe his presence will be an important contribution as everyone respects him, Jews, Christians, Muslims, Druzes. And there is great sense of collective anticipation for this visit because [the Pope] will be arriving at a very delicate moment in the peace process.”

You have met John Paul II and Benedict XVI, what distinguishes Francis from his predecessors?

“Every Pope has his own personality and personal messages. This Pope’s leadership is different in that he is tells us who we should be not what we should do.”

There is great concern about the attacks carried out against churches and mosques by Jewish extremist groups. What do you think about this kind of violence?

“Those who live in this land must respect the holiness of its sites. Every religion must respect the religions of others. The Israeli government is committed to making is possible for every individual to have free and secure access to churches, mosques and synagogues.”

Will Israel and the Vatican conclude the bilateral agreements?

“I launched them ten years ago and a final agreement is not far off. All we need to do is sign. Our intention is to protect the Church, starting with its top quality schools.”

The US-promoted negotiations between Israel and Palestinians are currently “on hold”. Is there a possibility they will be successful or have we reached a dead end?

“Not everything has come to standstill. Kerry met Abu Mazen in London and so did Livni. There is a crisis in negotiations but they have not failed because no one has come up with a better alternative to the two-State solution, despite all that is being said. Most people – just look at the surveys – are fed up with war. There is a conflict going on but Jews, Christians and Muslims cannot accept the possibility that their children may one day be killed as is happening today in Iraq and Syria.”

Can the Pope do something to help?

“Of course, religious leaders meet and matter, just as heads of States do. Some extremist groups say they are acting in the name of religion so faith leaders must join together and stress that those who kill do not go to heaven and cannot boast links with the afterlife. The great religious leaders could join forces and speak out against terrorism with one single voice.

How are the negotiations impacted by the agreement between Fatah and Hamas?

“We cannot have a government in which some seek peace and others kills people. If Hamas continues to be a terrorist organization that fails to respect the peace agreements signed, how can it join forces with Fatah? I negotiated with Arafat and I told him that for as long as there are two guns pointed at one another, we cannot have a single nation. I explained Abraham Lincoln to him, telling him that he went to war not for love of weapons but to unite his people. Divisions cannot be overcome with bits of paper alone, what we need are concrete actions. In 2005, Israel left Gaza altogether, they had 8 thousand citizens in 22 settlements protected by 75 thousand agents. We went away without destroying anything. Hamas no longer suffers life under occupation but it is afflicted by the poverty of Gaza’s approximately 2 million residents. So why spend so much money on tunnels and missiles? Palestinians must unite for the good of peace, but they must do so choosing the path of peace, not terror.”

In Israel there are some who are wary of Abu Mazen, do you believe he is credible?

“Government has mixed opinions about him but the important thing is for the negotiations to continue. I have known Abu Mazen for many years, him and I signed the Oslo Accords in Washington. You can talk with him but of course he has a certain audience. In my experience, no one can ignore the reality: differences are not as great as they seem. But there must be discretion in negotiations.”

You speak of ongoing negotiations when really we have reached a deadlock situation…“Of course, there has been an interruption in negotiations but we are in daily and constant contact. The Palestinian police are cooperating with us.”

Are there any secret negotiations underway?

“If there were I would not say anything about it.”The negotiations between the 5+1 group and Teheran on nuclear power seem to be coming to an end. What would have to be the outcome of the negotiations in order for them to be a success? “There can only be one successful outcome. As President Obama and European leaders said, Iran must be prevented from becoming a nuclear power. It is actions that will matter, not a combination of phrases.”

The Iranian president says he doesn’t want the atom bomb, do you believe him?

“If Iran’s leader says they don’t want the atom bomb then why are they still building transportation missiles for it? No one is threatening Iran’s existence, quite the opposite. Not only is Iran producing missiles, it also supports the terrorist acts of Hezbollah and Hamas. Why do they do so? Iranians must decide whether they are a nation of peace or of terror. What matters here is not a bunch of words but actions: they must prove that they will not use nuclear power as a weapon. Iranians have been our friends on many occasions throughout History. Now they have to decide they want peace, not the bomb.”

On 10 June the Knesset will elect a successor. What were the highlights and the toughest moments of this seven year leadership?

“It was great to give a voice to the results achieved by the Israelis. This is the most important result. I was also prime minister: the difference between that and being president is that the head of government spends most of his time trying to quell tensions whereas the president does not have great decision-making powers and so can give a voice to those who deserve it. Contributing to the times one is living in means supporting, not governing, being servants of the people, not leaders.”

What will you do when you leave the Israeli presidency?

“I will make my voice heard, although I speak in a low pitched voice. We have a non-profit organisation which will try to promote high technology. Today’s currency is not money but knowledge. Supporting poor countries through economic aid was a mistake, we must spread knowledge as an antidote to poverty. The land is a tangible thing, we must control it and defend it but in the modern era, it is no longer the government that is in charge of these tasks; there are other forces too, economic and human ones, that are in a position to do this.”

You began your career alongside Ben Gurion, the State’s founder. What is the most important lesson you learnt from this?

“He taught that what brings people together is not common interests but visions. Ben Gurion gave Jews a vision, he was a man of great strength but there wasn’t a drop of cynicism in him. He knew Jews base their lives on the Ten Commandments. He fought to defend his ideas, he resigned 15 times as prime minister and was called back on all 15 occasions. He was a democrat, he considered the Jewish nation as part of the world, he believed in wisdom, the fruit of honesty, his motto was “never lie, always dare.”

In July, it will be Italy’s turn to take over the presidency of the European Union. What is there on Europe and Israel’s common horizon?

“I hope the EU will be able to give us and the Palestinians – as well as Jordan – special status so that our exchanges can take place as if were a part of Europe. The expansion of the EU should have started from the Middle East because there is a strong link that comes from History and unites Rome with Jerusalem. It is this great idea, and it is a European idea, that can play a decisive role in achieving peace.”

You were one of Israel’s founders: what has struck you the most in the 66 years of the Israeli State’s existence?

“In Israel, reality outdoes the dream. We had a dream that was too small: we didn’t have an economy or water and there were 600 thousand of us. Now there are 8 million of us and some of the world’s most important companies are Israeli. We are not an industrial country but one of research, our blessing are our people. Every nation has its treasures, we have our citizens. Democracy is a question of defining oneself, each individual can express themselves. We have achieved a great deal but we have not finished. It is a desire to be perfect that guides us and the main characteristic of Jewish people is their tendency to be dissatisfied because it drives us to be creative.”

What advice would you give to your successor?

correspondent in jerusalem-Coca Cola’s CEO will be accompanied Bartholomew to tomorrow’s meeting with Pope Francis on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The Turkish-American business executive has been a key figure in important VIP social events in the United States  - such as the Millionnaire’s Retreat in the Sun Valley, in Idaho – and is a fervent supporter of globalization as a means of resolving conflicts and guaranteeing development. Kent’s visit to Pope Francis alongside Bartholomew will do wonders for this reputable philanthropist’s image.Kent is involved in the restructuring of the orphanage for Greek Orthodox children in Buyukada, in the Turkish city of Istanbul, which was shut down in 1964. It was recently handed back to the Orthodox Patriarchate following a long legal dispute. This charity project has strong symbolic importance for Kent as it will help Greek children in Turkey. The Patriarchate sees the project as an interpretation of its vocation to bring together more Orthodox faithful. The news that Coca Cola’s CEO would form part of the small delegation that will accompany Bartholomew to the Apostolic Nunciature in Jerusalem, was broken by Fr. Dositheos, the Patriarchate’s spokesman. He added that the third person to meet Francis will be Theodore Angelopoulos, another important entrepreneur of Greek origin. He is the son of Panayotis Angelopoulos who oversaw the reconstruction of the Patriarchate building in Istanbul, which was completed in 1989. It was rebuilt in the exact same place where the original building stood before it was destroyed in a fire in 1941.Kent and Angelopoulos will also be accompanying the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople to the mass celebration in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

05/24/2014 - THE VATICAN INSIDER-Francis: “A peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis is urgently needed”-Pope Francis with the King of Jordan-The first major event of Francis’ visit to the Holy Land will be his meeting with the Jordanian leadership: “I have profound respect and esteem for the Muslim community”. The Pope sent out an appeal to the religious community. “You have become the entire world’s conscience,” King Abdullah said-Andrea Tornielli

in Amman-Pope Francis’ first words upon landing in the Jordanian capital Amman, were words of thanks to the country for taking in refugees and for the ceasefire in the Syrian conflict. Francis was welcomed by King Abdullah and bin Al Hussein –the only monarch to have already been received twice by the Pope in the Vatican – and Queen Rania, at the royal palace in Amman. After a private meeting and after greeting the royal family, the Pope  addressed three hundred top figures in the kingdom, including religious leaders.King Abullah welcomed the Pope saying: “Holy Father, you have committed yourself to dialogue, particularly with the Muslim world. You are not only Peter’s successor but have become the entire world’s conscience.”“This country still generously welcomes a large number of Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as refugees from other areas facing a crisis, particularly neighbouring Syria, which has been shaken by a conflict that has gone on for too long. This welcome deserves the respect and support of the international community.” The Pope recalled the Church’s commitment to Caritas Jordan. He then asked, once again, for an end to violence in Syria and for peace between Israelis and Palestinians. “A peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis is urgently needed, as well as a just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” Francis also expressed his “profound respect and esteem for the Muslim community.”The Pope greeted Christian communities “present in the Country since the Apostolic times.” “Although they are a minority in terms of numbers, they are in a position to make a valuable contribution in the fields of education and health, in schools and hospitals and can profess their faith freely, enjoying religious freedom, which is a basic human right and which I hope will be taken into account in all parts of the Middle East and the world as a whole…”Religious freedom, the Pope explained, also “involves” “the freedom to choose the religion one believes to be true and to publicly express one’s own belief.”

14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

DANIEL 8:23-25
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king (EU DICTATOR) of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences,(FROM THE OCCULT) shall stand up.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power:(SATANS POWER) and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

37 Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers,(THIS EU DICTATOR IS A EUROPEAN JEW) nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
38 But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces:(HES A MILITARY GINIUS) and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
39 Thus shall he do in the most strong holds (CONTROL HEZBOLLAH,AL-QUAIDA MURDERERS ETC) with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many,(HIS ARMY LEADERS) and shall divide the land for gain.

6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

METEORS HIT THE EARTH

REVELATION 6:12-17
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
17 For the great day of his wrath is come;(LAST HALF OF THE 7 YR TRIB) and who shall be able to stand?

REVELATION 8:12-13
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

BETWEEN 1AM AND 3AM I LOOKED OUT TO SEE IF ANY METEORS WERE SHOWER ING.THE ONLY THING I SEEN OUTSIDE MY WINDOW WAS A CAT CAUGHT A BIRD AND AT FIRST WAS TEESING IT.THEN ATE IT I PRESUME.THAT WAS MY METEOR SHOWER FUN FOR FORCING MYSELF FROM SLEEP.I WAS EXPECTING TO SEE SOMETHING.NOT EVEN ONE.I KNEW THIS COULD NOT BE THE ONE IN THE BIBLE THAT HITS THE EARTH BECAUSE WE ARE NOT RAPTURED TO HEAVEN AND THIS EARTH METEOR HIT DOES NOT HAPPEN TILL THE LAST YEAR OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.SO THIS LINEAR OBSSESSION CAN END AGAIN.NOW FOR THE NEXT 2 DAYS WE GOT THE POPE AND PEACE TREATY OBSESSORS OUT THERE CLAIMING ALL KINDS OF THINGS.THANK GOODNESS THE SECOND BLOOD MOON WAS NOT THIS WEEKEND YET OR FOR SURE THE WORLD ENDERS WOULD CLAIM THE WORLD IS ENDING AND THE DATE SETTERS WOULD BE SAYING THE RAPTURE WOULD BE OCCURING.

DEUTERONOMY 18:22
17  And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
18  I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
19  And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
20  But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21  And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
22  When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Comet to pass by Earth after meteor shower-Reviews of Saturday's meteor shower depended on where stargazers were-UPDATED 9:25 AM EDT May 24, 2014

(CNN) —People across the country may be waking up Saturday and rubbing sore necks as they ask themselves if it was worth looking skyward in the middle of the night for hours.A unique meteor shower glittered the skies over North America, but judging from social media responses, it appeared to do so sparingly in some places, while delivering a few prize goods elsewhere. But for die-hard star geeks, there will be an Act II, an even bigger treat, as the last part of the shower -- a comet -- passes by Earth, beginning Saturday evening.Whatever the verdict, there will probably never be a second chance for the May Camelopardalids meteor shower. Many showers come annually, in October, December, January and April, said NASA meteor observer Bill Cooke. In August, for example, we will see the return of the spectacular Perseid meteor shower. But the Camelopardalid shower, named for the constellation the shooting stars appeared to fly out of, was a rare gift from the planet Jupiter. The biggest planet in the solar system bent the meteors' orbit with its powerful gravitational pull so that they would collide with Earth."Next year it will tug the debris field away from the Earth, and we won't see a meteor shower, so this is kind of a one-shot deal," Cooke said.

Rare comet pass

The debris field derives from the coming comet, which bears the uninspiring name 209P/LINEAR.
Astronomers have stopped coming up with fancy nomenclature for the hundreds of comets they spot and instead give each new one a number and the name of the project that discovered it.LINEAR stands for Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research.Jupiter will fling the comet our way, too, causing it to fly by our planet at a distance of 5 million miles."A comfortable distance, which is good," Cooke said. Its core is 1 to 2 miles wide, and a direct hit to Earth would be disastrous.Even though 209P/LINEAR passes by every five years while orbiting the sun, this time around it will offer a rare sight to hobby astronomers."The comet normally doesn't pass this close," Cooke said.Anyone with a consumer model 3-inch-reflector telescope should be able to see it in the north sky late Wednesday, if the heavens are clear. Those who want a sneak peek through a more powerful telescope can get it from 6 p.m. ET Saturday via the online observatory service Slooh. To have 209P/LINEAR's debris field pass the Earth ahead of its comet is like putting the tail before the dog.Usually debris fields follow comets just like their tails do. Again, Jupiter was the culprit. It ripped off the debris field and threw it out in front of 209P/LINEAR."Jupiter is a big gravitational bully of the solar system," Cooke said. This particular comet and its field just happen to pass through that planet's orbit. After many passes around the solar system, the comet also doesn't have much of a tail left, so gazers shouldn't expect to see a long, stunning ribbon trailing it, just a short dash.

Surprise package

Cooke said from the start that the May Camelopardalids could be a star-studded gala or a dud.NASA couldn't predict it ahead of time, because the debris field was formed some 200 years ago, when astronomers couldn't see it, Cooke said. They merely knew that it was coming."It's kind of like being able to predict rain at 11:30 in the morning but not being able to predict a drizzle or a thunder storm."
Reactions from shooting-stargazers across the country ran the gamut on social media, and judging by some, it did deliver fireworks."Izzi and I literally just saw and heard a meteor explode right before our eyes," .hannaH posted to Twitter."Just saw a awesomely bright meteor with a blue tail!! #MeteorShower," Twitter user Carmen said from Chicago. And it served up some disappointment. Some netizens called it a complete bust."Guess anyone who invited someone on a date to watch the 'meteor shower' is looking like a pretty big creep right about now," New Yorker Kevin Depew tweeted.A tweet from Los Angeles Times reporter Deborah Netburn seemed to sum up neatly reactions to the shower.."Watched the #Camelopardalids from the Eastern Sierras. Not exactly a meteor storm, but the 3 I saw were so cool. Long streaks across the sky."

Major meteor shower could delight N. America May 23-24

WASHINGTON: Skywatchers in the United States and Canada could see a one-of-a-kind meteor shower late Friday night and early Saturday, astronomers say.Never before have astronomers witnessed the debris trail behind this  particular comet, and a sea of white lights could dash across the night sky for  hours.

Or not.

“The problem we are having is, even though we can tell precisely when these  particles are going to encounter Earth’s orbit, we don’t know how many of them  there are,” said Bill Cooke, the head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office.Cooke said the uncertainty will not sway him from scanning the skies for  falling stars from the shower known as the May Camelopardalis, which could  appear as early as 10:30 pm Eastern time Friday (0230 GMT Saturday). The peak is expected to be 2-4 am (0600 GMT-0800 GMT) on Saturday.Comet P209/Linear is a very old comet that astronomers first discovered in  2004.Two years ago, experts at NASA’s Ames Research Centre in California  predicted that streams of dust that the comet spewed behind it in the 1800s  would cross Earth’s orbit on May 24, 2014."Jupiter’s gravity is going to tug that debris into Earth’s path this  year,” Cooke explained.“Right now it doesn’t produce much debris, but we have no idea what is was  doing 200 years ago,” he told AFP.The comet typically loops around the Sun and passes into Earth’s orbit  every five years. It will make a close pass by our planet this time, but not near enough to  be dangerous, experts say. When it does, the sky could be streaked with the white light of as many as  a 200 meteors per hour during the shower’s peak.“That’s a few meteors per minute. It is not a special-effects extravaganza  here,” said Paul Weigert, associate professor at the University of Western  Ontario.“Meteor showers are like the weather. They are a little bit hard to  predict,” he added. “It may not be spectacular, but we are hoping for a nice display.”    The meteors are also going to travel at a speed of about 36,000 miles per  hour (58,000 kilometres per hour), slower than the Perseids meteor shower, in  which meteors zoom by at a pace of 150,000 mph every year in July and August,  Cooke said. The best conditions to see the shower would be a clear night, unobscured by  clouds, with a view of as much of the sky as possible.“You want to lie on your back and look straight up and take in as much sky  as you can see,” said Cooke, who plans to look for it from Huntsville, Alabama.“No telescopes, no binoculars, just your eyes.”     --  AFP
