Beijing’s bellicose rhetoric intensifies

Chinese state media is once again bragging about Beijing’s military prowess, touting the fact that China’s new H-6K strategic bomber can attack U.S. military bases in South Korea as well as the Japanese mainland using long range nuclear cruise missiles.
Image: H-6K strategic bomber (YouTube).
The report features on the prominent pro-Communist Party news website Want China Times.
“With a range of between 1,500 and 2,000 kilometers, the CJ-10 meets the requirements of the PLA Air Force to possess the capability to launch strategic missile attacks against US military facilities and those of its allies in the Western Pacific,” states the report. The article also lauds the fact that the H-6K can target the Japanese mainland without even leaving Chinese airspace, in addition to Russian cities in the far east, all major cities in India, as well as Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines, “in a potential war against Southeast Asian neighbors over territories in the South China Sea.”“An H-6K taking off from the air base of the PLA’s 10th air division in Anqing, Anhui province, would be able to strike at all US military bases in South Korea,” states the report, noting that “the long-range cruise missile has become a crucial part of China’s nuclear arsenal.”This is just the latest example of aggressive and bellicose rhetoric emerging out of China.Earlier this month, a PLA military website bragged that China’s first aircraft carrier combat task force was close to rivaling the U.S. Navy.In November, Chinese state-run media released a map showing the locations of major U.S. cities and how they would be impacted by a nuclear attack launched from the PLA’s strategic submarine force.China’s moon landing program was also used as a reminder of Beijing’s growing offensive capabilities, with one state media report even discussing plans to turn the moon into a Star Wars-style “death star” from which the PLA could launch missiles against any target on Earth.A display to promote China’s Jade Rabbit Moon rover also included a background photograph of a mushroom cloud over Europe, a startling detail which some have interpreted as an indication that Beijing’s space program is a cover for the militarization of space.China is currently embroiled in a territorial dispute with Japan over the Senkaku Islands, tensions that were heightened earlier today when Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited a shrine seen by critics as a symbol of Tokyo’s wartime aggression.Facebook @ https://www.facebook.com/paul.j.watson.71-FOLLOW Paul Joseph Watson @ https://twitter.com/PrisonPlanet

Palestinians fume at Netanyahu plan to announce new settlement units

PA official says Israel ‘killing peace process’; PM to issue list of new plans close to release of Palestinian prisoners next week

December 26, 2013, 6:14 am 23

Palestinian Authority officials expressed outrage at a report Wednesday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was set to announce new settlement construction next week, coinciding with Israel’s release of Palestinian prisoners in the third of four phased releases agreed upon as a precondition to peace talks.
The Palestinian Authority minister for Prisoners’ Affairs, Issa Karake, said that the linkage between Palestinian prisoner releases and new settlement units was “unacceptable.”“Unlike the release of prisoners, which advances peace talks and creates hope that a [peace] agreement can be reached, the building of settlements scuttles the possibility of moving forward [with negotiations],” said Karake, according to a report in Maariv Thursday. He added that from the Palestinian point of view, the upcoming announcement is considered an “inappropriate Israeli stunt that is not conducive to future talks.”Wasil Abu Yousif, a Palestinian official, said Wednesday that the expected announcement is evidence that Israel is “not serious” about pursuing peace. “It’s clear to everyone now that the Israeli government is killing the peace process.” While stopping short of threatening to withdraw from the current round of peace negotiations, he said Israel’s policy would force the Palestinians to seek “more substantial alternatives.”Israeli TV reports said that the plan to be announced by Netanyahu called for 1,000 to 2,000 new settlement homes. Channel 10 said the prime minister was going ahead with the announcement of new settlement building despite the fact that the last such announcement, which coincided with the second phase of prisoner releases, almost caused the collapse of peace talks. It said the US and EU had both urged him not to go ahead with the plan, but he was unmoved.Despite a recent uptick in violence in the past week, with attacks on Israeli targets in Gaza and the West Bank, and the attempted bombing of an Israeli bus in Bat Yam, the cabinet decided Wednesday it would proceed as planned with the release of the 26 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons next Sunday.
Netanyahu in November halted much larger plans for new settlement construction advocated by his Housing Minister Uri Ariel, saying the move to push forward tens of thousands of new units over the Green Line was a “meaningless step” that would create pointless tension with the international community.According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, since the beginning of 2013, 32,290 construction sites for housing units were erected across Israel, an increase of 5.5% compared to the corresponding time frame in 2012.The release of Palestinian prisoners was one of the preconditions to negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. Israel in July agreed to release 104 prisoners, most of whom were convicted before the 1993 Oslo Accords, in four phases over the course of the nine-month negotiation process.According to a Channel 2 report, the Netanyahu cabinet decided Wednesday that it would stick by its pledge on the prisoner releases to the US, which is brokering the talks with the Palestinians, and that the spike in terrorism did not justify breaching that commitment. Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Wednesday that security officials would review which prisoners to release and which would remain incarcerated.Ya’alon remarked that Israel was not overjoyed to let them free, but reiterated that the release of these prisoners “stems from broader considerations.”Channel 2 said the pro-settlement Jewish Home party was not pushing for the announcement of new settlement building, since it felt the linkage of prisoner releases to West Bank settlement construction was damaging to the settlement enterprise. Thus, the report said, the announcement would be at the personal choice of Netanyahu.AP contributed to this report.

None hurt after Kassam fired at Ashkelon area

Rocket lands in open area; Iron Dome batteries deployed in Beersheba, Sderot, and Ashdod as Gaza tensions escalate

December 26, 2013, 1:59 am

A Kassam rocket was fired from Gaza and slammed into an open area near Ashkelon late Wednesday night.
There were no injuries and no damage, officials said.Red alert sirens wailed through the region before the missile hit, for the second time this week. The rocket came amid heightened tensions between Israel and the Palestinians following a string of attacks against Israeli civilians, police officers and soldiers, and Israeli retaliatory strikes against Gaza on Tuesday.Earlier Wednesday, the IDF deployed an Iron Dome missile interception battery to the area near the southern cities of Beersheba and Sderot, and on Thursday put a third battery near Ashdod. An IDF spokesperson said that the army usually moves its six anti-missile units around the country to address operational and training needs.Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon said Israel was taking measures designed to ensure it was ready for any escalation of hostilities, although IDF sources said they did not expect an escalation. On Tuesday, a Defense Ministry civilian worker was killed by sniper fire from the Gaza Strip, prompting retaliatory attacks by the Israeli Air Force. On Monday, a rocket fired from Gaza landed next to a children’s bus stop in the Ashkelon area.Relatives of the slain Defense Ministry worker, 22-year-old Saleh Abu Latif of Rahat, said Wednesday the IDF abandoned him and that the Defense Ministry didn’t provide him with body armor or a helmet while he was performing maintenance work on a damaged stretch of the border fence.A Defense Ministry spokesperson said in response that the IDF, not the ministry, was responsible for protecting civilian contractors and providing them with the necessary hardware. The IDF said it was investigating, and would “draw conclusions” at the end of the investigation.Following Tuesday’s killing, the IAF launched airstrikes against Hamas targets and IDF ground forces gathered along the border and fired into the Strip. Palestinian sources in Gaza claimed two people — 3-year-old Hala Sabiha and her father — were killed during the Israeli strikes, and nine were injured. The IDF did not comment on the claims. In the wake of the violence, the IDF closed the Kerem Shalom border crossing with the Gaza Strip to all commercial traffic. In spite of the heightened readiness on the border with Gaza and the deployment of Iron Dome, sources in the IDF said they expected a deescalation by Hamas.
In Jerusalem, the cabinet met on Wednesday, with ministers saying that Israel would retaliate with force against any attacks from the Gaza Strip, but that silence would be met with silence.“As far as we’re concerned Hamas is the sovereign power in the Gaza Strip and it is responsible for what happens there,” Ya’alon said. “We expect it to impose its authority on its people and on the members of other groups, and if it doesn’t do so we will continue to retaliate like we responded [on Tuesday] in a forceful and pointed manner.” “For greater security, we are planning for the possibility of an escalation [of hostilities] — with deployment of an Iron Dome battery and with other preparations — in case someone on the other side thinks otherwise,” the defense minister added.Despite the uptick in violence in the past week, with attacks on Israeli targets in Gaza and the West Bank, and the attempted bombing of an Israeli bus in Bat Yam, the cabinet decided Wednesday that it would proceed as planned with the release the another group of Palestinian prisoners next Sunday. This is the third of four phased releases of long-term terror convicts, agreed as part of the preconditions to negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. Israel in July agreed to release 104 prisoners convicted before the 1993 Oslo Accords in four waves over the course of the nine-month negotiation process.According a Channel 2 report, Israel said that it would stick by its commitment to the US, which is brokering the talks with the Palestinians, and that the spike in terrorism did not justify breaching that commitment. Ya’alon said, however, that security officials would review which prisoners to release and which would remain incarcerated.Ya’alon remarked that Israel was not overjoyed to let them free, but reiterated that the release of these prisoners “stems from broader considerations.”
Channel 2 said the prisoner releases would be accompanied by an Israeli announcement of new building plans in the settlements, which it said had been coordinated with US Secretary of State John Kerry. The pro-settlement Jewish Home was not pushing for the announcement of new settlement building, since it felt the linkage of prisoner releases to West Bank settlement construction was damaging to the settlement enterprise. Thus, the report said, the announcement would be at the personal choice of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel blames terror surge on Palestinian incitement

Netanyahu’s office calls on Mahmoud Abbas to condemn series of recent attacks, one of which killed a civilian

December 25, 2013, 12:40 pm 20-The times of Israel

Israel pointed to ongoing incitement in the Palestinian Authority as the driving force behind a spate of recent terror attacks on Israelis, one of which was fatal, and criticized Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas for not speaking out against the incidents.“The terrorist attacks against Israelis over the last few days are a direct result of the incitement and hatred propagated in Palestinian schools and media,” said Mark Regev, spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement on Wednesday. “We are disappointed that so far President Abbas has not condemned these acts of terrorism as one would expect from a partner in peace talks.”Regev leveled the accusation the day after an Israeli man working on the border fence with Gaza, 22-year-old Saleh Abu Latif, was shot dead by a sniper from within the Hamas-controlled coastal strip. The IAF responded with a series of airstrikes on Hamas targets that were accompanied by fire from IDF ground forces gathered along the border.According to Palestinian sources in the Strip, two people — a 3-year-old child named Hala Sabiha and her father — were killed during the Israeli strikes, and nine were injured.

The Gaza clashes came alongside a series of terror incidents this week that saw a bomb explode on a bus in Bat Yam on Sunday minutes after the occupants were safely evacuated, and a policeman stabbed in the back in near Jerusalem on Monday. There was also an attempted drive-by shooting at an IDF jeep on Tuesday night that caused no damage or injuries, as well as other attacks on Israeli civilians and police in the West Bank.Economy and Trade Minister Naftali Bennett also blamed the Palestinian Authority for the increase in violence because, he said, it goads the Palestinian population to carry out terror.“Israel is continuing with the peace process as though there is no terror while the Palestinians are continuing the terror as though there is no peace process,” he wrote in a Monday post on his Facebook page. “The claim that the Palestinian Authority is not connected to the terror attacks is blowing up in our faces every day.”“When you educate children in terror from the age of kindergarten, when your television broadcasts depict Jews as monsters, when even Tel Aviv is not on your maps — then you are a terrorist,” he concluded.

MATTHEW 5:10-12
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

MATTHEW 24:9
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

JOHN 15:18-20
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me (JESUS) before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

1 PETER 4:16-19
16  Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17  For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

REVELATION 6:9-11

10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

REVELATION 20:4
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands;(WILLINGLY-THEY CHOSE THE IMPLANT) and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Christmas Bomb Attacks Kill at Least 34 in Baghdad's Christian Areas

BAGHDAD — At least 34 people were killed in three bombings in Christian areas of Baghdad on Wednesday, including a car bomb that exploded as worshippers were leaving a Christmas service, Iraqi police and medics said.Elsewhere in Iraq, at least 10 people were killed in three attacks that targeted police and Shiite pilgrims, police said.Iraq is enduring its deadliest violence in years, reviving memories of the sectarian bloodshed between Sunni and Shiite Muslims that killed tens of thousands in 2006-07.The day's deadliest incident occurred in the Doura district of southern Baghdad when the car bomb went off as Christians were emerging from a Christmas mass, killing at least 24 people.Shortly before, two bombs in a crowded market in a separate, mostly Christian area of Doura killed another 10 people.
Ahmed Edan, a policeman on duty in the area of the attacks, said the sound of the first of the two explosions caused worshippers to leave the church."A car parked near the church exploded when the families were hugging each other goodbye before leaving. The blast was powerful," he said. "Bodies of women, girls and men were lying on the ground covered in blood. Others were screaming and crying while they were trying to save some of their wounded relatives."No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks in Baghdad, which also wounded 52 people.Iraq's fast-dwindling Christian minority has been a target of al-Qaida Sunni militants in the past, including a 2010 attack on a church that killed dozens of people. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad condemned the bombings, saying in a statement that Christians in Iraq had suffered "deliberate and senseless targeting by terrorists for many years, as have many other innocent Iraqis."Al-Qaida-linked militants have stepped up attacks on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's Shiite-led government and anyone seen as supporting it in recent months. More than 8,000 people have been killed this year, according to the United Nations.Car bombs, shootings, and suicide attacks killed scores of Shiite pilgrims in the week before the Shiite holy day of Arbain, which coincided with Christmas Eve this year.On Wednesday, a bomb struck a minibus in southern Baghdad carrying pilgrims back from the Shiite holy city of Kerbala, killing three and wounding eight, police and medics said.To the west of Tikrit, 150 kilometers (95 miles) north of Baghdad, gunmen killed three policemen on patrol, police sources said.A bomb exploded near a football pitch in the town of Ishaqi, 100 kilometers north of the capital, killing four people, including two policemen, and wounding eight, police said.

Jerusalem patriarch urges 'just' Israel-Palestinian solution

AFP
Bethlehem (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) - The Latin patriarch of Jerusalem called on Tuesday for a "just and equitable solution" to the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict and for reconciliation in the Middle East.Monsignor Fuad Twal issued his plea in a homily he is to deliver at Christmas Eve midnight mass in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, a copy of which was obtained by AFP.The service will be attended by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas and other dignitaries.Addressing Abbas, he said "we pray for you and for your mission in finding a just and equitable solution to the present conflict, for Palestinian unity, for the peace and prosperity of your country. We ask God to grant you wisdom and courage.""In the Holy Land, we are living a conflict that does not seem to have a solution in the short term and which weighs heavily" on its inhabitants," said Twal, who its senior Roman Catholic prelate."This painful reality raises numerous questions concerning our future in this country and causes us much worry," added the 73-year-old patriarch.
But "the answer lies neither in emigration nor in closing in on ourselves. It consists in staying here and in living and dying here," he added, echoing Pope Francis's concerns of a massive exodus of Christians from the Middle East."From this Holy Place, we remember all the adversities in our world: from civil wars in Africa to the typhoon in the Philippines, the difficult situation in Egypt and in Iraq, the tragedy playing out in Syria/
He also spoke of "our own problems here: the prisoners and their families who hope for their release, the poor who have lost their land and their homes demolished, families waiting to be reunited, those out of work and all who suffer from the economic crisis."In prayer, he said: "O Holy Child, God of goodness and mercy, look with kindness on the Holy Land and on our people who live in Palestine, in Israel, in Jordan and all in the Middle East. Grant them the gift of reconciliation so that they may all be brothers – sons of one God."

And here are the bounderies of the land that Israel will inherit either through war or peace or God in the future. God says its Israels land and only Israels land. They will have every inch God promised them of this land in the future.

Israel will 'Contain' Latest Gaza Violence

Israel plans to “contain” the latest murder perpetrated by the Hamas-run Gaza terror entity, according to reports on Voice of Israel public radio.A civilian worker for the IDF, 22 year-old Salah Shukri Abu Latyef was shot fatally Tuesday by a sniper near Gaza, where he was working on fixing the security fence. However, a senior military source told the radio station that the IDF “intends to contain the terror attack and not escalate the situation.” The source said that the incident is a serious one, seeing as it involves the first killing of an Israeli by Gazans since the end of operation Pillar of Defense last year. The message delivered to Hamas is that the IDF “is weighing its next steps,” he said. Agriculturalists in the region have been told to stay at least one kilometer (3,000 feet) away from the Gaza security fence, and to use roads that avoid the area near the fence.Speaking on Voice of Israel, Bennett appeared to deliver a similar message. He said that while the South would remain quiet for now – if the terror wave continues, there will be no quiet on the Arab side, either. He also noted that the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority is engaged in incitement to terror, naming its squares for suicide bombers and granting stipends to jailed terrorists.Bennett pointed out that the latest terror wave began when the negotiations with the PA were recently revived. “Last year there were no diplomatic negotiations,” he said, “and it was the quietest year in the last 35 years.”Likud-Beytenu MK Tzahi Hanegbi responded by accusing Bennett of “exaggeration.” He said that the security establishment estimates that Hamas does not want to escalate the situation and stressed that Israel maintains its readiness while continuing to make a great effort to prove its readiness to make peace.MK Binyamin Ben-Eliezer (Labor) said that the negotiations with the PA are a strategic Israeli interest and that efforts to advance them must not be eased, even as Israel deals strongly with terror organizations.MK Nisan Slomiansky (Jewish Home) said that releasing more terrorist murderers next week is “an unparalleled absurdity” and that the recent spate of terror proves this.“Day after day,” he added, “the residents of Israel face mortal danger, and the state continues to blindly submit to the demands made by the PA and the Americans.”"We must put an end to this farce," Slomiansky continued, calling for an end to prisoner releases during negotiations. "As long as the waves of terror against Israel continue, we must not release a single terrorist."

Temple Mount Activist: Only the People Can Stop Desecration

Veteran Temple Mount activist says politicians won't stop Muslim desecration of Judaism's holiest site; answer is popular re-engagement.-By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 12/25/2013, 12:02 PM-INNews

Ancient Wooden Beams lie exposed after being discarded by the Waqf-Temple Institute
A special Knesset committee which met yesterday to discuss the ongoing destruction of Jewish antiquities on the Temple Mount, saw MKs and Antiquities Authority officials debating how best to end the alarming phenomenon atop Judaism's holiest site. The destruction of Jewish artifacts by the Islamic Waqf trust is seen by many observers as part of a concerted effort to Islamize the Temple Mount, by erasing all traces of the Jewish Temples. Islamist and Palestinian Authority figures have long denied the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount and Jerusalem in general, despite the wealth of archaeology and historical documentation to the contrary. Those present at the committee called for greater political involvement by government ministers in tackling the phenomenon - including the Prime Minister itself. But speaking to Arutz Sheva, one veteran Temple Mount activist said he had little faith in the political establishment's willingness to tackle the problem, given the decades of inaction by successive Israeli governments. Instead, Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute insisted that the Temple Mount can only be preserved through popular re-emgagement, and increased awareness on the part of ordinary Jews worldwide."The Waqf's destruction of Temple remnants is deliberate and calculated. It's not an 'accusation'," he asserted. "They've already been convicted. And as far as their organized, aggressive harassment of Jewish visitors – this, too, is a demonstrable fact, which can be observed daily."The Waqf engages in 'Temple Denial Syndrome.' They deny that there ever was a Holy Temple here – and thereby they delegitimize any Jewish claim to Jerusalem, by obliterating Jewish history in preparation for the far-reaching 'final status' of Jerusalem." Rabbi Richman also dismissed claims by police that the situation on the Temple Mount has "improved" in recent months as "utterly ridiculous", adding that the harassment of Jewish visitors was still "a daily occurrence".As part of a raft of restrictions, Jewish and other non-Muslim visitors are banned from praying at the site, and face arrest and summary bans from ascending if seen to break the rules. Religious Jews in particular are often harassed by Muslim extremists on the Mount.
"I visited the Temple Mount this morning and was mistreated and abused by members of the Waqf," he said. "Jewish visitors are discriminated against and degraded; their visits are barely tolerated... If it were reported that Jews were being treated this way in any other country, the State of Israel would protest strongly and condemn such acts of overt anti-Semitism."But simply blaming the Waqf for the discrimination of Jewish visitors and destruction of Jewish antiquities is disingenuous, says Rabbi Richman. The root cause, he insists, is a lack of education and awareness within the Jewish community, which translates into apathy and a lack of popular resistance to the current situation, and in turn facilitates the continued inaction by authorities.
The Temple Mount is Judaism's holiest site and the location of the two ancient Jewish Temples; yet centuries of anti-Semitic decrees by Christian and Muslim occupying powers banning Jews from it altogether - coupled with halakhic (Jewish legal) disputes over how to properly manage access to the site - has left the site vulnerable to abuse by political and religious extremists who oppose Jewish sovereignty in the land of Israel in any form."Generations of Jews have been raised and taught that we have no connection to the Temple Mount; that it is a Muslim site and that we Jews belong down below at the Kotel (Western Wall). This complicit Jewish 'Temple Denial Syndrome' aids and abets our own destruction," he lamented.
The only way to force action on the part of the government is through popular re-engagement, he said.
"If that which should be the holiest thing to us, is literally trashed before our eyes, and we do not react – if we can be so insensitive to the life's blood of our own heritage – then we are deserving of every ignominy which befalls us," he concluded.

Seoul (AFP) - North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has urged the country's military to bolster its combat readiness, saying a war could break out "without any prior notice", state media reported Wednesday.

The call comes at a time of heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula following the execution of Kim's uncle and former mentor in an unusually public purge.Kim visited the Command of Large Combined Unit 526 on Christmas Eve, the North's official Korean Central News Agency said."He instructed the unit to put utmost spurs on rounding off its combat readiness... always bearing in mind that a war breaks out without any prior notice," it said. The unit is based in the North's western port city of Nampo, according to the South's Yonhap news agency. There are growing concerns over the regime's stability after the execution of Jang Song-Thaek, a senior leader who was also the uncle and former political mentor of the younger leader.
Seoul and Washington have warned of possible provocative acts by the nuclear-armed North following the purge.South Korean President Park Geun-Hye called for "watertight security readiness" during her trip Tuesday to a frontline guard post, describing the situation over the border as "ominous"."We should react sternly and mercilessly to any provocations by North Korea," she said.In recent days the reclusive state's propaganda mill has gone into overdrive describing Jang as a traitor while extolling Kim's leadership.
Tens of thousands of troops pledged loyalty to him in a mass rally on the death anniversary of his father last Tuesday. The Kim dynasty has ruled the impoverished but nuclear-armed state since 1948 with an iron fist and pervasive personality cult.

Ice storm means dark Christmas for thousands of Canadians

Toronto Hydro says 70,000 still without power in the city alone Wednesday morning

CBC News Posted: Dec 24, 2013 6:10 AM ET Last Updated: Dec 25, 2013 7:56 AM ET
Thousands of Canadians are awakening to a dark Christmas, days after a brutal storm that hit southern Ontario and Quebec and is pounding the Maritimes. In southern Ontario, close to 150,000 customers remained without power as late as Tuesday morning. Early Christmas morning, Toronto Hydro reported about 70,000 people were still without power, compared to 300,000 at the height of the outage."We've restored all critical customers (TTC, water services etc), and crews continue to repair priority feeders, which will restore the largest groups of customers at one time," Toronto Hydro said in a Christmas morning release. "Crews will then respond to more localized outages, which affect streets or individual homes." On Tuesday, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne reacted to criticism that power wasn't being restored quickly enough by saying: "So far the progress we're seeing in affected communities is very encouraging," "We're three days into this and tens of thousands of people who didn't have power — hundreds of thousands of people who didn't have power  — have power now and the progress has been remarkable."Many customers, however, could be without electricity until the weekend, and Toronto Hydro CEO Anthony Haines said the situation could get worse."I can honestly say I've never paid so much attention to the weather forecast before in my life until I did this week," he said Tuesday morning."We're expecting 30 km/h winds today, and so it continues to be one of my big concerns that if we see another weather event with trees that continue to be laden with ice and snow, that we'll get additional damage."Hydro One said late Tuesday afternoon about 39,000 of its customers outside of Toronto remain in the dark. Earlier Tuesday morning the number was around 60,000.
"Right now we're really watching the weather," CEO Carmine Marcello said. "The wind is picking up and we've noticed that that number creeps up and comes back down, so as it stands now we're making great progress … but it is a long, icy road ahead of us."The utility put out a call on Twitter asking anyone who runs a restaurant that will be open on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day to contact them as the crews working to restore power need food.

'Tonight it will be cold'

The power outages combined with the sharp drop in temperatures have left some residents resorting to dangerous measures to stave off the cold. Two people were killed in Newcastle, Ont., after it's believed carbon monoxide seeped into their home from a gas generator running in the garage. Police say the generator was being used to help heat the house."Do not heat your home with devices that are designed for outdoor use, particularly barbecues or outdoor generators," Wynne said."I know that people are trying to stay warm but please be careful and do not put yourselves at risk."Wynne urged residents with wired smoke alarms and CO detectors to ensure they have battery backups in case of a power outage.Emergency crews in the Toronto area have responded to more than 100 calls because of carbon monoxide exposure."Temperatures should warm up starting tomorrow, which will make it a little easier," Toronto Mayor Rob Ford said at a media briefing Tuesday morning."But unfortunately tonight it will be cold. Please help seniors and people with disabilities."The City of Toronto is running a number of warming centres where residents can seek shelter, food or rest.In Quebec, about 20,000 customers remained without power on Tuesday, largely in the province's Eastern Townships, as technicians worked to fix power lines and other equipment damaged by the storm.

Light snow in the forecast

Special weather statements are in place in much of southern Ontario as temperatures drop.Temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing until Christmas Day and won't move closer to the freezing mark until the weekend."To those who are still without power due to continued challenges in getting the hydro lines up and running, it is advised to seek warm shelter and prepare for the colder than average temperatures that are expected," Environment Canada advised."Furthermore, given the well below freezing temperatures, much of the ice will not melt and will likely remain on many surfaces through Christmas and Boxing Day until the end of the week."The Greater Toronto Area bore the brunt of the storm on Sunday with between 10 and 30 millimetres of ice accumulation bringing down tree limbs and power lines.

Storm hits Atlantic Canada

Meanwhile, an icy mix of rain and freezing rain that hit Atlantic Canada on Monday played havoc with the electricity grid and hampered travel plans.N.B. Power said more than 45,000 customers were without power in southern New Brunswick today. The CBC's Catherine Harrop said from Fredericton Tuesday morning that N.B. Power was facing a tough job."N.B. Power is saying they're really struggling because, of course, the crews have to work on ice and they're working with those who can take down tree limbs at the same time as the linemen are working on the power lines. So it's a pretty tricky situation."In Nova Scotia, NS Power said the number of people without power dropped to about 3,300 by this afternoon."[The Maritimes are] still dealing with the remnants of the storm which has given a few days' worth of snow, freezing rain and drizzle in some locals," Kennedy said."Tomorrow another system skirts by and Nova Scotia may pick up another two to four centimetres of snow with a light dusting possible in southern New Brunswick."The storm was expected to hit Newfoundland Tuesday, where residents in some areas were warned to expect as much as 25 centimetres of snow.Meanwhile, travel in the region was disrupted due to slick roads, while dozens of flights were delayed or cancelled at airports — mainly due to backlogs created by severe weather that also hit Quebec and Ontario.Passengers were stranded in airports from Toronto to St. John's. Several airlines, including Air Canada, advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. They also urged passengers to give themselves extra time in case of delays on the road.

Ice storm leaves 500K without power in US, Canada

Associated Press
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — More than 500,000 homes and businesses were still without power Tuesday in parts of central and northeastern U.S. and into Canada after a weekend ice and snow storm rolled across the region. At least 14 people have been killed in the storm. The U.S. National Weather Service said more snow was expected to move into the Northern High Plains and Central Rockies on Tuesday before rolling into the Great Lakes and Midwest by Wednesday morning. In Canada, police said two people in Ontario are dead from carbon monoxide poisoning after using a gas generator to heat their blacked-out home northeast of Toronto.Toronto officials said 90,000 customers were still without power Tuesday. While that was down from 300,000 people at the height of the weekend outages, some were likely to be in the dark until after Christmas. The region was under a cold alert, with temperatures expected to be well below freezing Tuesday.
Some U.S. states kept emergency shelters open for people without power. The number of customers in Maine without power spiked to more than 100,000 on Tuesday, even as Central Maine Power Co. sent more than 1,000 workers to help restore power throughout the state. That was the case, too, in Michigan, where Jackson-based Consumers Energy — the state's largest utility — said it hadn't had this many outages during any Christmas week since its founding 126 years ago. Close to 17 percent of its 1.8 million electric customers lost power during the storm that hit late Saturday; roughly 157,000 remained without it Tuesday.

Christmas in mud as rain pelts Philippine disaster zone

AFP
Tacloban (Philippines) (AFP) - Survivors of the Philippines' deadliest typhoon spent a gloomy Christmas Day surrounded by mud Wednesday as heavy rain drove many inside their flimsy shelters, dampening efforts at holiday cheer in the deeply devout nation.Groups of children in plastic raincoats braved the incessant rain in the devastated central city of Tacloban, knocking on doors in trick-or-treat fashion and beseeching pedestrians for candies, coins and other Christmas presents. But housewife Susan Scala sat glumly under a white tarpaulin in one of Tacloban's many tent cities for those made homeless by Super Typhoon Haiyan. At a time when her family should be celebrating, all she could think of was her missing husband."Even if it's not Christmas I don't stop thinking about him," the mother of five said of her husband Oscar, a telephone utility worker believed lost at sea when giant waves whipped up by the November 8 storm swept away homes in the city's San Jose slum.Like many of the city's survivors, the miserable weather made Scala nervous. "This incessant rain is scary. It reminds me of what happened (during the typhoon)," the 53-year-old said.
Haiyan left more than 6,100 people dead and nearly 2,000 others missing, many of them from Tacloban and nearby towns, in the storm-prone country's deadliest typhoon disaster.About 4.4 million others were left homeless across the central islands and now live in tents provided by aid agencies or rough shacks fashioned by survivors from the wreckage of destroyed homes and fallen trees. At the city's ruined Sagkahan fish port, 67-year-old widow Emiliana Aranza pulled sweets and shortbread from jars at her makeshift store outside her shanty to give to the children who knocked on her counter."It's a sad Christmas Day. We have lost our home and the government will not allow us to rebuild here as it's too close to the shore," she told AFP.But she said sharing what was left of her possessions had an uplifting effect."There are still a lot of reasons that we should be thankful to God," Aranza said, including the fact that her two adult children and their 13 sons and daughters, who now have to live together in the cramped shanty, survived the disaster."Because of the typhoon, members of my family are now tightly knit. Gone are the petty quarrels," she added.Scala said her family ate a traditional midnight meal on Christmas Eve in keeping with tradition in the largely Catholic nation. But they had to make do with tinned sardines and steamed rice, part of the weekly aid rations from the government and humanitarian agencies. For breakfast on Christmas Day, she said her family ate the previous night's leftovers and would have to make do with instant noodles for lunch. She has no idea where she will get the money to build a new house or whether she will be able to send her two school-age children back to school. The Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, acting as a representative for Pope Francis, celebrated Christmas mass in Tacloban and urged the faithful not to lose hope."Do not despair, do not be overcome by adversity... I now reassure you once again: the church will never forget you. We will never forget you," he told worshippers. The Save the Children charity had planned to host an event with sports and art activities to cheer up about 300 children on Christmas in the storm-ravaged city of Ormoc, said programme manager Reggie Aquino. But local officials in the city 45 kilometres (28 miles) from Tacloban cancelled the event due to the rain.Instead, the charity held the event in a tent for children in the nearby town of Kananga where there was just heavy drizzle. In central Tacloban, Maria Meneses, 31, dived into a pile of garbage outside a department store, along with half a dozen or so other residents left impoverished by Haiyan."This is for my daughter," she said, showing a salvaged pack of two tiny candy-coloured cake candles that she had spirited into her pink handbag."I was waiting for the store to open to buy batteries for my daughter's walkie-talkie toy and told myself, 'Why not, some of those items thrown in among the trash are still in good condition'."

Bethlehem enjoys merry Christmas as thousands of pilgrims flock to Jesus' biblical birth town

Associated Press
Thousands of Christians from the world over packed Manger Square in Bethlehem Monday to celebrate the birth of Jesus in the ancient West Bank town where he was born. For their Palestinian hosts, this holiday season was an especially joyous one, with the hardships of the Israeli occupation that so often clouded previous Christmas Eve celebrations eased by the United Nations' recent recognition of an independent state of Palestine. In his annual pre-Christmas homily, the top Roman Catholic cleric in the Holy Land, Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal, said the road to actual freedom was still long, but this year's festivities were doubly joyful, celebrating "the birth of Christ our Lord and the birth of the state of Palestine.""The path (to statehood) remains long, and will require a united effort," added Twal, a Palestinian citizen of Jordan, at the patriarchate's headquarters in Jerusalem's Old City. Then he set off in a procession for the West Bank city of Bethlehem, Jesus' traditional birthplace. There, he was reminded that life on the ground for Palestinians has not changed since the U.N. recognized their state last month in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.Twal had to enter the biblical town through a massive metal gate in the barrier of towering concrete slabs Israel built between Jerusalem and Bethlehem during a wave of Palestinian suicide bombings in the last decade. The Israeli military, which controls the crossing, said it significantly eased restrictions for the Christmas season.Israel, backed by the United States, opposed the statehood bid, saying it was a Palestinian ploy to bypass negotiations. Talks stalled four years ago.
Hundreds of people greeted Twal in Manger Square, outside the Church of Nativity. The mood was festive under sunny skies, with children dressed in holiday finery or in Santa costumes, and marching bands playing in the streets. After nightfall, a packed Manger Square, resplendent with strings of lights, decorations and a 17-meter (55-foot) Christmas tree, took on a festival atmosphere, as pilgrims mixed with locals.
A choral group from the Baptist Church in Jerusalem performed carols on one side of the square, handing out sheets of lyrics and encouraging others to sing along with songs such as "We Wish You A Merry Christmas."Vendors sold balloons, cotton candy and corn on the cob, bands played Christmas songs and tourists packed cafes that are quiet most of the rest of the year. Pilgrims from around the world wandered the streets, singing Christmas carols and visiting churches.Festivities led up to the Midnight Mass at St. Catherine's Church, next to the fourth-century Church of the Nativity, built over the grotto where tradition says Jesus was born.Devout Christians said it was a moving experience to be so close to the origins of their faith."It's a special feeling to be here, it's an encounter with my soul and God," said Joanne Kurczewska, a professor at Warsaw University in Poland, who was visiting Bethlehem for a second time at Christmas.
Pastor Al Mucciarone, 61, from Short Hills, New Jersey, agreed."We come here to celebrate Jesus. This is a very important town. Great things come from small events. The son of God was born in this small village. We hope all will follow Jesus," he said.Audra Kasparian, 45, from Salt Lake City, Utah, called her visit to Bethlehem "a life event to cherish forever. It is one of those events that is great to be a part of."Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas also visited Bethlehem and said "peace will prevail from the birthplace of Jesus, and we wish everyone peace and happiness," according to the official Palestinian Wafa news agency.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a special Christmas greeting too, wishing Christians "a year of security, prosperity and peace."Christmas is the high point of the year in Bethlehem, which, like the rest of the West Bank, is struggling to recover from the economic hard times that followed the violent Palestinian uprising against Israel that broke out in late 2000.Tourists and pilgrims who were scared away by the fighting have been returning in larger numbers. Last year's Christmas Eve celebration produced the highest turnout in more than a decade, with some 100,000 visitors, including foreign workers and Arab Christians from Israel. The Israeli Tourism Ministry predicted a 25 per cent drop from that level this year, following last month's clash between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza, which put a chill on tourist arrivals. Foreign tourists heading to Bethlehem must pass through Israel or the Israel-controlled border crossing into the West Bank from Jordan.Outside the town's quaint Manger Square, Bethlehem is a drab, sprawling town with a dwindling Christian base — a far cry from the pastoral village of biblical times.
About 22,000 Palestinians live in Bethlehem, according to the town council, but combined with several surrounding communities has a population of some 50,000 people.Overall, there are only about 50,000 Christians in the West Bank, less than 3 per cent of the population, the result of a lower birthrate and increased emigration. Bethlehem's Christians make up only a third of its residents, down from 75 per cent a few decades ago.Elias Joha, a 44-year-old Christian who runs a souvenir store, said even with the U.N. recognition, this year's celebrations were sad for him. He said most of his family has left, and that if he had the opportunity, he would do the same."These celebrations are not even for Christians because there are no Christians. It is going from bad to worse from all sides ... we are not enjoying Christmas as before."Located on the southeastern outskirts of Jerusalem, Bethlehem has the highest unemployment in the West Bank, but the tourist boom of Christmas offered a brief reprieve. Officials say all 34 hotels in the town are fully booked for the Christmas season, including 13 new ones built this year.Israel turned Bethlehem over to Palestinian civil control a few days before Christmas in 1995, and since then, residents have been celebrating the holiday regardless of their religion. Many Muslims took part in celebration Monday as well.Christians across the region marked the holiday. In Iraq, Christians gathered for services with tight security, including at Baghdad's Our Lady of Salvation church, the scene of a brutal October 2010 attack that killed more than 50 worshippers and wounded scores more.Earlier this month, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, who is responsible for the Vatican's outreach to the Middle East's Catholic communities, travelled to Iraq and presided over a Mass to rededicate the church following renovations. In his homily, he remembered those who were killed and expressed hope that "the tears shed in this sacred place become the good seed of communion and witness and bear much fruit," according to an account by Vatican Radio. The exact number of Christians remaining in Iraq is not known, but it has fallen sharply from as many as 1.4 million before the U.S.-led invasion nearly a decade ago to about 400,000 to 600,000, according community leaders cited by the U.S. State Department. In the Vatican, Pope Benedict XVI lit a Christmas peace candle set on the windowsill of his private studio.Pilgrims, tourists and Romans gathered below in St. Peter's Square for the inauguration Monday evening of a Nativity scene and cheered when the flame was lit.The pope was set to appear in St. Peter's Basilica to lead Christmas Eve Mass.____Associated Press writer Adam Schreck contributed from Baghdad.

In his Urbi et Orbi message this Christmas Francis called for peace in Syria, Africa and the Holy Land. The Pope prayed for an end to tragedies such as the boat sinking in Lampedusa and also for those children who are robbed of their childhood

Andrea Tornielli Vatican City
“Let us pause before the Child of Bethlehem. Let us allow our hearts to be
touched, let us allow ourselves to be warmed by the tenderness of God; we need his caress. God
is full of love: to him be praise and glory forever! God is peace: let us ask him to help us to be
peacemakers each day, in our life, in our families, in our cities and nations, in the whole world.
Let us allow ourselves to be moved by God’s goodness.” These were the concluding words of the Pope’s Urbi et Orbi message to Rome and the world, on this, his first Christmas as the Bishop of Rome. Francis recalled the many lands throughout the world that have become violent battlegrounds, in particular Syria.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favours, Francis said in the opening part of his message. “I take up the song of the angels who appeared to the shepherds in Bethlehem on the night when Jesus was born … it is a song for every man or woman who keeps watch through the night, who hopes for a better world, who cares for others while humbly seeking to do his or her duty.” “Christmas bids us to … give glory to God, for he is good, he is faithful, he is merciful. Today I voice my hope that everyone will come to know the true face of God, the Father who has given us Jesus. My hope is that everyone will feel God’s closeness, live in his presence, love him and adore him. May each of us give glory to God above all by our lives, by lives spent for love of him and of all our brothers and sisters,” Francis said.True peace Francis went on to say “is not a balance of opposing forces. It is not a lovely “façade” which conceals conflicts and divisions. Peace calls for daily commitment, starting from God’s gift, from the grace which he has given us in Jesus Christ. Looking at the Child in the manger, our thoughts turn to those children who are the most vulnerable victims of wars, but we think too of the elderly, to battered women, to the sick …Wars shatter and hurt so many lives!”“Too many lives have been shattered in recent times by the conflict in Syria, fuelling hatred and vengeance. Let us continue to ask the Lord to spare the beloved Syrian people further suffering, and to enable the parties in conflict to put an end to all violence and guarantee access
to humanitarian aid. We have seen how powerful prayer is! And I am happy today too, that the followers of different religious confessions are joining us in our prayer for peace in Syria. Let us never lose the courage of prayer!”, Francis added referring to last October’s peace vigil. “And I am happy today too, that the followers of different religious confessions are joining us in our prayer for peace in Syria. Let us never lose the courage of prayer! The courage to say: Lord, grant your peace to Syria and to the whole world.” “I also invite non-believers  to yearn for peace, with their yearning, a yearning that makes the heart bigger,” Francis said, setting his written speech aside.Francis called for peace in the Central African Republic, a country that is “often forgotten and overlooked.” “Yet you, Lord, forget no one! And you also want to bring peace to that land, torn apart by a spiral of violence and poverty, where so many people are homeless, lacking water, food and the bare necessities of life.” Francis also prayed for “social harmony in South Sudan, where current tensions have already caused numerous victims and are threatening peaceful coexistence in that young state.”

The Pope asked God to “turn hearts aside from violence and inspire them to lay down
arms and undertake the path of dialogue. Look upon Nigeria, rent by constant attacks which do
not spare the innocent and defenceless. Bless the land where you chose to come into the world,
and grant a favourable outcome to the peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians. Heal the
wounds of the beloved country of Iraq, once more struck by frequent acts of violence.”Francis then prayed that God would protect “all who are persecuted for [His] name. Grant hope and consolation to the displaced and refugees, especially in the Horn of Africa and in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Grant that migrants in search of a dignified life may find acceptance and assistance. May tragedies like those we have witnessed this year, with so many deaths at Lampedusa, never occur again!”Finally, Francis asked the Child of Bethlehem to “touch the hearts of all those engaged in human trafficking, that they may realize the gravity of this crime against humanity. Look upon the many children who are kidnapped, wounded and killed in armed conflicts, and all those who are robbed of their childhood and forced to become soldiers.” And he prayed to the Lord to “look upon our planet, frequently exploited by human greed and rapacity. Help and protect all the victims of natural disasters, especially the beloved people of the Philippines, gravely affected by the recent typhoon.”

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

The Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations are on the verge of a breakthrough and an American-drafted framework agreement could be signed by the end of the month, the London-based Arabic newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported on Sunday. The report cited Arab League officials who said that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas presented them with the details of the U.S. plan at an emergency meeting of the Arab League foreign ministers that was held in Cairo this weekend at the request of the Palestinians.Arab diplomats quoted in the report said that Abbas expressed disappointment in the American plan, which he claimed favored Israeli security interests over other core issues that must be resolved in a final status agreement."The Americans are determined to present an agreement by the end of December and have already chosen a location for the signing ceremony for the framework agreement," Abbas reportedly told Arab diplomats.Palestinian officials in Ramallah confirmed the report and said U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to present the final outline for the framework agreement during his upcoming visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories at the end of the week.Meanwhile, the Arab League rejected on Saturday a reported U.S. proposal that would allow for a continued Israeli military presence on the eastern border of a future Palestinian state.Palestinian officials have said Kerry's proposal that was made earlier this month included letting Israel maintain control of a Palestinian state's border with Jordan for at least 10 years to address Israel's concerns about a potential influx of terrorists and weapons. At the Arab League meeting in Cairo on Saturday, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby said that not a single Israeli soldier could remain in the territory of a Palestinian state. An Arab League report on the issue called Kerry's proposal "dangerous to the Palestinians," saying it "achieved Israeli security expansionist demands, and guaranteed [Israel's] continued control of [the Jordan Valley] on the security pretext." The report also characterized the proposal as "an American retreat."Aides to Abbas have criticized the proposal. One aide, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the negotiations, told Reuters on Saturday that the Palestinians are trying to shorten the time span of any Israeli withdrawal.

Erekat: Final peace accord won't be reached by April, but framework deal might

PLO negotiator says final deal can be reached in 6-12 months, after framework deal specifies definitions of core issues.

A final peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians will not be reached by the end of the nine-month period set for the talks, but an initial framework agreement could be reached, chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters on Wednesday according to Palestinian news agency Ma'an.Stressing that a deal is only possible with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's cooperation, Erekat said the two sides could reach a framework agreement by April 29, the end of the nine-month period, that would "specify the borders, percentage of the [land] swaps, security arrangements, Jerusalem status, refugees" and other core issues.
The PLO negotiator said the Palestinians would be willing to continue negotiations beyond the nine-month period if such a framework agreement is reached.Following the signing of a framework agreement, Erekat estimated the two sides could reach a final accord in six to twelve months."Once you reach the framework agreement, between that day to reach a comprehensive treaty, on all core issues... you need six to 12 months in the best case," he said. The Palestinian negotiator said that the fact the talks are being held under the auspices of US Secretary of State John Kerry is what makes the main difference between this round of negotiations and previous attempts at reaching an agreement, asserting that Kerry could lead the two sides to an accord.Erekat also told reporters that while the Palestinians are willing to agree to gradual Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, recent reports on a US security plan to keep Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley for a decade after the signing of the accord were "imaginary" and invented by journalists.Erekat, who offered his resignation to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas last month, accused Israel of trying to sabotage the peace talks, adding that Jerusalem's "unreasonable behavior" is what led to his resignation. While Abbas did not accept Erekat's resignation, the Palestinian negotiator said he hopes the PA president accepts the resignation soon, because he does not want to end his career as a failing negotiator.
On Tuesday, Ma'an reported that Abbas's Fatah party and Hamas were holding talks to form a unity government ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections.Erekat told reporters that there will be no Palestinian state without the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, and that Hamas was a legitimate political party like any other, adding that the upcoming elections will be a solution to the ongoing conflict between the two factions.
