Tsunami warning lifted after Japan quake Fri Apr 20, 12:55 AM ET
TOKYO - Three strong earthquakes rattled southwestern Japan islands on Friday, but there were no immediate reports of injury or damage. Japan's Meteorological Agency at one point warned that a small tsunami was possible, but later said no such waves had developed. The strongest quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7, struck at 10:46 a.m. Two other quakes, each with preliminary magnitudes of 6.2, struck shortly before and then after the larger temblor, the agency said. All the quakes struck near the island of Miyakojima, 1,130 miles southwest of Tokyo, part of the Ryukyu islands chain that stretches southwest toward Taiwan.Japan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries.

Leading Article: A global warning from the dust bowl of Australia
Published: 20 April 2007
Australia is in the midst of a crippling drought, the country's worst on record. Many towns and cities have been forced to enact drastic water restrictions as reservoirs have run dry. Rivers have been reduced to a trickle. The drought has severely damaged the agricultural sector. Farmers are raising emaciated cattle and sheep. Cotton-lint production has plummeted. Wine grape and rice output has collapsed. Agricultural production has fallen by almost one-quarter in a year. And it is estimated that the drought has knocked three-quarters to 1 per cent off the country's growth as a whole. And now the government is reaching for desperate measures. Australia's Prime Minister, John Howard, has announced there may be a ban on the use of the country's largest river system for irrigation unless there is significant rainfall over the next two months. The government is preparing to wrest regulatory control of the Murray and Darling rivers from the five states through which they run to ensure that water is reserved for urban drinking supplies and farmers' domestic use.
The Murray-Darling river basin has been called Australia's food bowl. It generates about 40 per cent of the country's farm produce. If this tract of land - the size of France and Spain combined - is denied irrigation it would spell ruin for Australia's agricultural sector.
Thousands of farmers could lose their citrus, almond and olive trees if they cannot be watered. Trees would die and production would be impossible for at least half a decade. Even if the rains do come in Australia in the coming weeks, as forecast, they will have to be especially long and prolonged to alleviate the crisis. Moreover, this is a taste of things to come - not just for Australia, but the world. As the latest report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change makes clear, the runaway warming of the earth will bring severe drought in its wake. And the economic consequences will be disastrous. Sir Nicholas Stern's report for the Treasury outlined last year how climate change could be as economically traumatic as the Great Depression or the world wars of the 20th century.
There is already a growing drought problem in the Horn of Africa, most likely brought about by global warming. The Darfur crisis has been exacerbated by competition between Arab and African tribes for water resources. But this seems to be the first extended drought brought about by climate change in a developed country. It is a grim irony that Australia is suffering first. The country is led by
a man who has helped to wreck concerted international action to slow climate change. Australia is the only industrialised nation, apart from the US, to refuse to sign up to the Kyoto Protocol. Mr Howard, along with President George Bush in the US, has formed an axis of denial over the seriousness of global warming. Earlier this year he suggested the jury is out on the link between climate change and man-made carbon dioxide emissions, despite the consensus among the world's scientists that such a
link is pretty much beyond doubt. But Mr Howard is now singing a rather different tune. His government recently announced plans to ban inefficient light bulbs to reduce Australia's carbon emissions. And now he prays for rain. This is because the drought is likely to be an important issue in Australia's elections this year. Mr Howard recognises that baiting asylum-seekers and posturing as President Bush's deputy sheriff in the Pacific is not enough. Suddenly, the environment matters.
Today, Australia; tomorrow, vast areas of the world's surface: the imperative for the world's leaders to take serious action to curb climate change has never been starker.

DANIEL 11:40-45
40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south( EGYPT) push at him:(EU DICTATOR IN ISRAEL) and the king of the north (RUSSIA AND MUSLIM HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
44 But tidings out of the east(CHINA 2ND WAVE OF WW3) and out of the north(RUSSIA,

45 And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
The Third and Final Wave of WW3 is when all Nations march to Jerusalem, but JESUS bodily returns to earth and destroys them, sets up his KINGDOM OF RULE FOR 1000 YEARS THEN FOREVER.
EU-Russia trust at post-Cold War low: EU trade chief
Reuters April 20, 2007; 6:13 PM (Washington Post)
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The level of trust between the European Union and Russia has reached its lowest level since the collapse of communism, EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said in a speech prepared for delivery on Friday.Mandelson, a central figure in Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) and in a row over Moscow's ban on Polish meat imports, urged both sides to take a long-term view. But relations between the EU and Russia are going through a difficult period, Mandelson said the speech he is due to deliver at a conference on Russia in Bologna, Italy.
Indeed, they contain a level of misunderstanding or even mistrust we have not seen since the end of the Cold War.
Mandelson said Russia and the EU suspected each another of double standards, including on the core issue of gas and oil supplies. Both believe the other is using the energy weapon as an instrument of politics, he said, adding EU countries too often gave Moscow mixed messages from Europe.EU countries have criticized Moscow for shutting off supplies of oil and gas during disputes with neighboring customers like Ukraine. They fear Russia is using its vast energy resources as a political weapon.EU leaders have also expressed concerns about the unexplained murders of dissidents and journalists critical of the Kremlin and the recent heavy-handed behavior of police during anti-government demonstrations in Russia. On the key issues -- pluralism, rule of law, freedom of speech, economic freedoms I am sure that EU policies are correct and that we should say so, Mandelson said.
TRANSPARENCY
He urged Russia to move towards the transparent rule of law and stem the state's growing influence over the economy.Effective engagement is surely as much about understanding how you will be perceived as choosing what to say. Unless we recognize our different perceptions of what has happened since the end of the Soviet Union we risk getting the EU-Russia relationship badly wrong.
Mandelson said the EU needed guarantees that Russia will not cut off oil and gas supplies, and both sides would benefit from rules for energy investments on both sides of the borders.Russia also needed to diversify its economy to avoid being trapped in the false strength of a petro-state and its attempts to join the WTO was essential in that sense.Russia needs to be in the WTO and we have a duty to assist this which is why I am frustrated by our continuing bilateral disagreement on a number of issues, Mandelson said. The EU is hoping to negotiate a new sweeping cooperation and trade pact with Russia but Poland is blocking the process due to Russia's 16-month ban on Polish meat imports.Senior EU and Russian officials are due to meet on Saturday to seek a solution to the meat row.
Virginia Tech Killer Cho Seung-Hui, Like Jesus Christ or Demon Possessed APR 20,07
MEDIA ADVISORY, April 20 /Christian Newswire/ Virginia Tech killer Cho Seung-Hui claimed he was like Jesus Christ. Worldwide minister Paul Davis examines the spiritual forces that motivated this murderer.
Paul Davis has extensive experience dealing with demon possession, mind renewal, inward transformation, and helping confused individuals become integrated and congruent. Paul's ability to move in the supernatural power of God to break demonic influences destroying human beings has impacted people on every continent.
If God does not touch our feelings, the devil will. Religion that is cold as ice is never nice. The Church was meant to be a lifeboat, not a pleasure boat. If we do not rescue the perishing, we will need rescuing ourselves. - Paul F. Davis
Cho's deceptive decline and the critical components that led to him being overtaken by demons were:
1. Cho was a silent loner and isolated recluse.
Isolation is the breeding ground for deception. The devil preys on the weak and works on people when they are alone. The first banana that gets peeled is the one that separates from the bunch. Idle time is the devil's playground. Paul F. Davis
Satan is the father of lies, spewing falsities and accusations. Falsities belittle a person and diminish their self-esteem, while accusations get them to question who they are. There are three origins of voices: God, man, and the devil.
Isolated individuals often cannot differentiate between the voices they hear and often internally take ownership of them as their own. Internalizing and taking personal ownership of demonic voice's directives can be both deceptive and deadly. - Paul F. Davis
2. Cho was jealous and envious.
Cho left an angry note in his dorm against rich kids and women.
Jealousy is the rage of a man and envy like rottenness in the bones (Proverbs 6:34; 14:30). Cho was eaten up with jealousy and envy, which at its peak propelled his fit of rage.
3. Cho was suicidal.
He had mentioned committing suicide to his roommates. The devil was certainly working overtime to kill, steal, and destroy this young man. Jesus warned of a day when people would kill in the name of God and claim they are serving Him. Those who kill don't know God (John 16:1-3; Exodus 20:13).
The eyes are the window of the soul. Cho Seung-Hui's eyes revealed there was another resident occupying and possessing him. Cho's dull eyes displayed an absence of life and abandonment. His body was the host and the demons the parasitical inhabitants, which clearly spoke through him during his video manifesto mentioning my children, my brothers and sisters of which there was no factual basis.Cho's deep sense of self-hatred and disregard for human life manifested in his angry creative writing.
4. Cho lacked solid values, beliefs, and faith.
He seems to have been troubled about religion and American values. He railed against snobs, debauchery, and deceitful charlatans on campus.Unsure of his beliefs, what little Cho knew he twisted and perverted. The strange inscription on one of his arms -- the words ISMAIL AX in red ink, referenced the near sacrifice of Abraham's son Isaac before God intervened. Apparently Cho identified with the ideal of sacrifice, though this truth he distorted and grossly perverted in his interpretation of Scripture and intention to kill.God wants people to be living sacrifices not dead ones (Romans 12:1-2). Sadly Satan knows and quotes the Bible more than most Christians (Matthew 4:5-6). The devil twisted the sacred text and Cho right along with it.
We cannot pretend demons don't exist. Demoniacs and troubled youth like Cho Seung-Hui are labeled weird, but they must be liberated by God's love and power. Mary Magdalene was packing seven devils before Jesus unloaded her baggage. Jesus commanded His disciples to cast out devils, not create denominations! - Paul F. Davis
5. Cho lacked caring and confrontational friends.
When Simon the sorcerer tried to buy the gift of God with money, the apostle Peter rebuked him for such a wicked thought as his heart was not right in the sight of God (Acts 8:9-25).The apostle Paul told Elymas the sorcerer he was full of all subtlety and mischief, a child of the devil, an enemy of all righteousness, and one who perverted the right ways of the Lord (Acts 13:6-12).
Cho desperately needed someone to compassionately confront him and walk with him out of isolation. Though Cho believed in Christ, his heart was not right in the sight of God. Instead of dealing with his own unfinished business and issues, Cho in his pride was silently accusatory and murderous.
Disassociating from and projecting his pain on to others, Cho was never made whole himself. Cho's unresolved anger, inner hurts, and wounds left him suseptible to demonic attack. Isolated and dwelling in darkness within, demons feasted upon him like buzzards on a decaying carcass. His fragile and shattered identity unattended to combined with demonic activity led Cho to a deadly destiny. Our society desperately needs a powerful spirituality capable of restoring people's identity and driving out the devils lodged internally.Paul Davis is ready to proclaim the good news, heal the hurting, and set the captives free! EU confirms April 25 Solana-Larijani nuclear talks Fri Apr 20, 5:12 AM ET
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana will meet Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani on April 25 to discuss whether it is possible to resume negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program, an EU official said on Friday. The official said the venue had not yet been fixed.
Iranian news agency ISNA said earlier Larijani and Solana had agreed the meeting by telephone on Thursday in the latest of a series of contacts since the U.N. Security Council imposed new sanctions on Iran last month over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment.
Va. Tech Professor, Holocaust Survivor Buried in Israel
By Scott Wilson - Washington Post Foreign Service - Friday, April 20, 2007; 12:26 PM
RA'ANANA, Israel, April 20 /Amid the citrus groves of Israel's coastal plain, friends, family and former colleagues gathered Friday to bury Liviu Librescu, the Virginia Tech University professor who died shielding a classroom full of engineering students from a rampaging gunman. That act has made Librescu, 76, a hero in this country, where he arrived nearly three decades ago after surviving the
Holocaust and securing the right to leave Communist Romania after years of struggling to do so.
Liviu Librescu, a 76-year-old aeronautics engineer and lecturer, died trying to barricade the door of his Virginia Tech classroom to keep gunman Cho Seung-Hui away from his students. Those who assembled in a cemetery here held up his life as an example to all Israelis, who have celebrated Librescu since his murder as an ideal ambassador for this nation that worries over its image abroad and, at the moment, the quality of its leadership at home.
He was remembered as a dedicated scientist and teacher, an aeronautical engineer who gained international acclaim for his research but never learned how to drive or master such modern amenities as e-mail up to the time of his death. They also imagined the stark terror of his final moments in a Blacksburg classroom. That he was killed on a day when Israel paused to remember the victims of the Holocaust, which he endured in Romania and Russia, added poignancy for many of the more than 100 Jewish mourners. He did not hesitate to use his body to block the door, said Zeev Bielski, a former mayor of this upper middle-class suburb of Tel Aviv who now heads the Jewish Agency. In that way, he gave life to many.Librescu lived in Israel for eight years, teaching engineering at Tel Aviv University. A dissident in Nicolae Ceausescu's Romania, Librescu was fired from his government aerospace job when he applied to emigrate. Then-Prime Minister Menachem Begin intervened personally in 1977 to secure Librescu's passage to Israel the following year.
He could not speak Hebrew when he arrived. But he was hired quickly by the university's engineering department based on his reputation as a brilliant researcher, who published prolifically throughout his career. His official resume runs 61 pages.Where did he die? In the heart of the academy, in the classroom, said Yakov Aboudi, a Tel Aviv University professor and friend who helped hire Librescu.
Was there a better place for him? It's where he wanted to be.As spires of cypress swayed amid the tangerine orchards in a slight breeze, mourners clustered around Librescu's shroud-covered body. His two sons, Joe and Ariyeh, live here and his widow, Marlena, also a Holocaust survivor, has said she intends to return.God gave and God took, a rabbi sang in the plaintive opening prayer. We lived 42 years together, day by day, Marlena said in a tearful eulogy. I looked to your wisdom and your advice. And I thank you for the two children you gave us.I ask forgiveness of you, she continued as many mourners, tears steaming down cheeks, looked toward the ground. And feel a lot of pain thinking of the last few minutes of your life. His son Joe, 40, said, Father, I have so many questions for you that I have not asked.I'm proud of you, he said. I walked in the street today proud I have such a father.Ariyeh, 36, reminded the crowd that his disciplined father would likely be wondering what all the fuss was about.
I believe you are looking at us from above, at this gathering, and saying, What, don't you have anything to do? I did what I had to do, he said. A hero has to have a combination of characteristics, which you had.A representative of the Romanian government awarded Librescu the Star of Romania, the highest honor given to a civilian. Chabad, the outreach arm of the Lubavitcher ultra-Orthodox movement, announced that it would open a Chabad House on the Virginia Tech campus in his name.
After Marlena leaned over her husband's body for a last embrace, mourners proceeded along a cypress-lined path to a freshly dug grave. They lowered him in, and one by one family and friends threw spadefuls of earth over the body.We didn't know him, but came just to show respect for someone who seemed to be a very special man, said Reuben Katzen, a 25-year-old engineering student from Ra'anana, who stood with Yael Gross, 23, as the grave filled.
Nearby, Zvi Ben-Dov and Jacques Gheber stood in the strengthening sun in blazers, ties and blue-satin skullcaps. As boys, the men were Librescu's schoolmates in the central Romanian town of Focsani.Ben-Dov, 75, kept in touch with Librescu through e-mail, a convenience the professor never felt comfortable with and often had his wife ghost-write his dictated replies.Ben-Dov sent him a note before Passover earlier this month, asking whether Librescu would accompany him in May on his first visit to Focsani since he left 60 years ago. Librescu declined, saying he would be lecturing in Taiwan.
Every year there are fewer and fewer of us of this age and from that place, Ben-Dov said, watching over the grave. It was a heroic life.

2 PETER 3:10-11
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.
ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).
ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

JOEL 2:20,30
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army,(RUSSIA,MUSLIMS) and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.(SIBERIAN DESERT)
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
EZEKIEL 20:47
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.
ZEPHANIAH 1:18
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
MALACHI 4:1
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds).
MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Nuclear terror: How likely is it? 50% chance of detonation within 10 years, says expert Posted: April 20, 2007 1:00 a.m. Eastern - WorldNetDaily.com - Graham T. Allison
WASHINGTON – How likely is it that terrorists will some day be successful at detonating a nuclear device in a major American city? That was the question debated in an online forum sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations this week. And while Harvard's Graham T. Allison and the CFR's Michael A. Levi may disagree over the likelihood of such an attack, they agreed it is a serious threat and much more needs to be done to avoid the disastrous consequences. Levi, the skeptic, said:
Al-Qaida has grand ambitions and seeks mass casualties. And regardless of the probability of nuclear terrorism, the potential consequences of a successful attack should be enough to prompt us to more urgent action than we are currently taking.
Allison, author of the forthcoming book, On Nuclear Terrorism, pointed out a growing consensus on the severity of the threat. In the hotly contested American presidential election in 2004, the two candidates agreed on only one fundamental point, he said. In the first televised debate, they were asked, what is the single most serious threat to the national security to the United States? President Bush, answering second, said: I agree with my opponent that the biggest threat facing this country is weapons of mass destruction in the hands of a terrorist network.Michael A. Levi Allison cited other authorities, including former Sen. Sam Nunn, who is on record as saying the likelihood of a single nuclear bomb exploding in a single city is greater today than at the height of the Cold War. Perhaps no one, however, has studied the issue more thoroughly than Allison. In his book, based on the current trend line, he concludes the chances of a nuclear terrorist attack in the next decade are greater than 50 percent. He said former Secretary of Defense William Perry believes that assessment underestimates the risk.
From the technical side, Richard Garwin, a designer of the hydrogen bomb who Enrico Fermi once called, the only true genius I had ever met, told Congress in March he estimated a 20 percent per year probability with American cities and European cities included of a nuclear explosion not just a contamination, dirty bomb a nuclear explosion.
Discounting arguments that terrorists don't want to take chances with potential failure, Allison explains why the stakes are so high for terrorists to conduct a nuclear attack.
[T]he effect of a nuclear terrorist attack would reverberate beyond U.S. shores, he says. After a nuclear detonation, the immediate reaction would be to block all entry points to prevent another bomb from reaching its target.
Vital markets for international products would disappear, and closely linked financial markets would crash. Researchers at RAND, a U.S. government-funded think tank, estimated that a nuclear explosion at the Port of Los Angeles would cause immediate costs worldwide of more than $1 trillion and that shutting down U.S. ports would cut world trade by 7.5 percent.Even a so-called dud in nuclear terms would cause more destruction than the most dramatic conventional attack. If a terrorist's 10-kiloton nuclear warhead were to misfire (known to nuclear scientists as a fizzle) and produce a one-kiloton blast, bystanders near ground zero would not know the difference, explains Allison. Such an explosion would torch anyone one-tenth of a mile from the epicenter, and topple buildings up to one-third of a mile out.Allison concludes: The most important takeaway from this debate is that we must do everything technically feasible on the fastest possible time line to prevent terrorists from getting their hands on nuclear materials. Whether nuclear explosion, fizzle, or total dud, the repercussions of such materials in jihadist clutches are unacceptable.
The largest and most recent study of the effects of nuclear detonations in major U.S. cities showed that, while millions will die, millions of others can be saved with some practical preparations and education. The three-year study by researchers at the Center for Mass Destruction Defense at the University of Georgia found a concerted effort to teach civilians what to do in the event of a nuclear attack is the best – perhaps only – thing that could save an untold number of lives that will otherwise be needlessly lost. If a nuclear detonation were to occur in a downtown area, the picture would be bleak there, said Cham Dallas, director of the program and professor in the college of pharmacy. But in urban areas farther from the detonation, there actually is quite a bit that we can do. In certain areas, it may be possible to turn the death rate from 90 percent in some burn populations to probably 20 or 30 percent – and those are very big differences – simply by being prepared well in advance.
The government's own National Planning Scenario projects even a small, improvised 10-kiloton nuclear bomb would likely kill hundreds of thousands in a medium-sized city. The carnage was estimated at 204,600 dead in Washington, D.C. – with another 90,800 injured or sickened. Another 24,580 would likely die of thyroid cancer later because the simple compound potassium iodide, which can prevent it, was not made available to civilians in advance of the disaster. President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the 9/11 commission have all concluded a nuclear terrorist attack is not only the nation's No. 1 nightmare but also something of an inevitability at some time in the future.
JOHN MUST LISTEN TO ISRAEL NATIONAL RADIO, ITS THE ONLY ONE I KNOW THAT PLAYS BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB, BOMB IRAN. IT HAS A RING TO IT. GO ISRAEL
Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran, US senator sings Fri Apr 20, 6:37 AM ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Republican US presidential contender John McCain turned to popular music to illuminate the debate on the Middle East, singing at the suggestion that the United States bomb, bomb, bomb Iran. That old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran? McCain said in response to a question about US policy on its diplomatic pariah at an electoral campaign meeting in the state of North Carolina. His questioner had struck an anti-Iran tone, asking him when the United States was going to send an air mail message to Tehran, drawing cheers from the crowd.McCain then briefly sang Bomb, bomb, bomb an adapted snippet of the rock 'n' roll band's refrain Ba-ba-ba, Ba-Barbara Ann winning laughter from the audience. The performance was filmed and posted by users on the video-sharing website YouTube. One posting presented an edited version of the clip, with added photographs of children suffering from injuries cause by violence in Iraq.
Iran is dedicated to the destruction of Israel, McCain went on in a serious tone, however. That alone should concern us, but now they are trying for nuclear capabilities. I totally support the president (George W. Bush) when he says we will not allow Iran to destroy Israel.McCain is the Republican candidate most supportive of the war in Iraq, though he has harshly criticized President George W. Bush's handling of it.He has long been seen as a likely favorite on the Republican side for the 2008 US presidential race, but recently has scrambled to overhaul his campaign strategy as he lags behind in fundraising and in the polls.McCain's campaign spokesman Kevin McLaughlin told ABC news that the senator was just trying to add a little humor to the event.
ISRAEL WILL BECOME A NATION. LITERALLY IN THE SPRING.
GENESIS 12:1-3
1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram,(CHANGED TO ABRAHAM LATER) Get thee out of thy
country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:(PALESTINE,ISRAEL)
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
EZEKIEL 36:24
24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
EZEKIEL 37:9-28
9 Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Come from the four winds,(ALL THE WORLD) O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.(COME TO LIFE)
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.(ISRAEL WILL HAVE A POWERFUL ARMY)
11 Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.(BURNED BY HITLER)
12 Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.(THE DRY BONES COME TO LIFE IN ISRAEL)
13 And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,
14 And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.
15 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.
21 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen, whither they be gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
22 And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:
23 Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions: but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces, wherein they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
24 And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them.
25 And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant, wherein your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children, and their children’s children for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore.
27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
28 And the heathen shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore.

DANIEL 9:24
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

LUKE 21:24
24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Back to Homesh for Independence Day
by Hana Levi Julian (INN) APR 20,07
The united action committees which brought thousands of Israelis to the site of the former northern Samaria community of Homesh in the week before Passover have announced they will march there again on Independence Day. The march will step off from the nearby community of Shavei Shomron.
At least ten thousand people are expected to participate in the trek to the hilltop ruins, a significantly higher number than the previous event. Homesh was destroyed during then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharons 2005 Disengagement from northern Samaria and Gush Katif.
Organizers from the Homesh First group said the event will symbolize a return to the Zionist values of building and ideology. (Ed. note: Information about locations, departure times and fees for organized transportation may be obtained at 052-630-2222. In the north, the number is 052-462-7118.)
Thousands will march to Homesh, in a happy and beautiful manner.Extreme left-wing Knesset Member and Meretz party Chairman Yossi Beilin slammed the decision, railing that it meant there has been no disengagement, and that It is as if the withdrawal was only make-believe.Beilin accused the government of being afraid to oppose the activists. This is a moment of great shame for the weak government, which simply cannot say no a situation they must not stand for, declared Beilin. Although no authorization was requested, the organizers informed security forces of the planned route and itinerary. In response, the IDF Central Command told Army Radio Thursday that it approved the march and even offered to provide protection for the marchers if they cooperate with security personnel. The IDF spokesman also said the army agreed to the march on the instructions of the government. According to the radio report, however, the Defense Ministry denied any knowledge of the event. Homesh is technically classified as a closed military zone, but organizer Yossi Dagan said the IDF is hoping to avoid any violent confrontations. Thousands will march to Homesh, in a happy and beautiful manner, he promised.

Eurocrat empire building APR 20,07
The European Union recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The EU was established on March 25, 1957, when its six founding states (Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg) signed the Treaty of Rome. They solemnly declared that they would aim for an ever closer union. As a first step towards the goal of political unification the six states decided to integrate their economies.
They have meanwhile been joined by 21 other European countries, Economic activities, however, cannot result in achieving a predetermined political goal without strict economic controls and centralist planning. The controlling and planning body of the EU is the European Commission, based in Brussels. The commissioners are not elected and are accountable to no one. This deliberate democratic deficit was built in as a structural feature of the EU. An unelected and unaccountable structure makes it easier to impose centrally driven change on a society.
Some of the EU's founding fathers claimed that political unification was needed to prevent European nations from going to war again. Others, such as Paul-Henri Spaak, the Belgian foreign minister who authored the Rome treaty, dreamed of a European superstate. He hoped that such a state might one day become as powerful as the United States. Robert Rothschild, Mr. Spaak's chef de cabinet, recalled later how Mr. Spaak told him in 1957: I think we have re-established the Roman Empire without a single shot being fired.Washington foolishly supported the European unification project. It failed to see that democratization and decentralization are far more likely to preserve peace than unification and centralization. Washington also thought that without the gradual obliteration of the former European nation-states the Europeans were bound to wage war on each other again. America became the EU's midwife. Without the Americans we would not have gotten anywhere, Mr. Rothschild acknowledged.
Empires, however, are carnivorous monsters. They have to keep growing in order to avoid unraveling. Hence, they inevitably grow ever more totalitarian and expansionist. The EU is interfering more and more in the daily lives of its subjects. At the same time, its territory continues to expand, from the original six members to the present 27. By definition, there is no end to this process. The Leviathan has to be fed. With the accession of Romania and Bulgaria on Jan. 1, the EU's territory has reached the outer boundaries of the European continent. Since the European Empire by definition has to expand, it has to move into Asia and Africa. The preparation for this crossing of the Rubicon in this case the crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bosporus -- has been going on for years.
Five years ago, Louis Michel, then the Belgian minister of foreign affairs and at present a member of the European Commission, told the Belgian parliament that eventually the EU will encompass the entire Mediterranean basin, including North Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Michel also posited that only by incorporating both Israel and Palestine into the EU will there be peace between them.
The European-Mediterranean (Euro-Med) partnership between the EU and the countries of the Maghreb (an Arab word meaning the West and denoting Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya the North African Muslim countries to the west of Egypt) was established specifically to promote the economic, cultural and political integration of the EU and the Maghreb countries.
The Brussels bureaucrats embrace Islam because they want the EU to expand into the Muslim east and south. They think that eventually the Maghreb will become part of Europe, but many ordinary Europeans fear that Europe is on its way to becoming the Maghreb, the Muslim West. The problem for the Brussels establishment is that the present institutional framework of the EU is not adapted to the rapid expansion which the EU has experienced since the fall of the Iron Curtain in the late 1980s. To cope with expansion, the EU establishment produced the so-called European Constitution, a bloated 70,000-word document full of politically correct phrases and carefully omitting any reference to Europe's Christian heritage and its cultural tradition. It expands the powers of the Brussels Eurocracy and limits the national sovereignty of the member states.
In early 2005 the constitution was rejected in referendums in France and the Netherlands. One of the reasons why people voted against it was their fear of Islam and their subsequent opposition to the admission of Turkey into the EU. Theoretically the constitution should have been discarded after its rejection at the polls. The Europeanist politicians, however, refuse to accept the electorate's no. It has to be yes, they say, as they know that the empire will collapse if it cannot expand. They are now writing down a new and binding institutional framework, which, as German Chancellor Angela Merkel made clear, shall not be put before the electorate in a referendum. Empires cannot be democracies.
TROUBLE FROM HERE ON IN NOW THAT THE EU HAS A HATE LAW. HOW WILL THIS END UP IN THE FUTURE. LETS LOOK AT SCRIPTURES TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OUTCOME.

REVELATION 6:9-11
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain(BEHEADED) for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
REVELATION 14:9-11
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
EU agrees breakthrough hate-crime law
20.04.2007 - 09:23 CET | By Renata Goldirova
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – After six years of political wrangling, the European Union has agreed to make incitement to racism and xenophobia a crime across the 27-nation bloc, setting a jail sentence of at least one to three years.
But the text avoids controversial terms such as the Holocaust and crimes under the Stalin regime. The deal agreed by justice ministers on Thursday (19 April) proves that the EU now has moral responsibility and not only on the economy EU home affairs commissioner Franco Frattini said. There is no safe haven for racist violence, anti-Semitism or people inciting to xenophobic hatred, he added, underlining the text agreed by ministers is a right balance between fully respecting freedom of speech and punishing any criminal actions, not ideas.Under the new law, offenders will face up to three years in jail for public incitement to violence or hatred, directed against a group of persons or a member of such a group defined by reference to race, colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin. The same rules will apply to people publicly condoning, denying, or grossly trivialising crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, but only those recognised under statutes of the International Criminal Court.
According to German justice minister Brigitte Zypries, speaking on behalf of Berlin's six-month EU presidency, the EU-wide sentencing framework is an important political signal...especially to the young generation.
However, the wording has been carefully chosen to make it acceptable to the UK, Ireland and the Scandinavian countries, who were particularly worried about the scope of freedom of speech. Denial of the Holocaust is allowed under British freedom of speech rules, unless it specifically incites racial hatred. On the other hand, the three Baltic countries and Poland and Slovenia - all carrying the burden of a communist past - gave up their demand that crimes under the Stalin regime in the former Soviet Union also fall under the bill's scope. In exchange, a declaration saying the EU will organise high profile public debates on totalitarian regimes accompanies the new law. This is our political response to those concerns, Mr Frattini said.
Divorce law faces Swedish opposition
However, ministers failed to strike a deal on a proposal tabled by Germany to simplify the application of divorce law across the EU. About 170,000 out of 845,000 divorces annually now involve couples of different nationalities. According to the draft paper, for example, if a Czech-German couple living in Belgium decide to divorce, spouses would be allowed to choose which law – Czech, German, Belgian - to apply to their case, or would automatically be referred to a court in Belgium, the place of their latest residence.
This option is currently impossible, making divorces a lengthy and unpredictable procedure. But what appears as a citizen-friendly idea to Germany, Sweden finds in conflict with its national law. We will not accept any part of a foreign law that limits the right to divorce, as some countries limit this right for women or for both men and women, Sweden's state secretary Magnus Graner was cited as saying by Swedish media, with Swedish diplomats earlier referring to traditional Islamic law, Sharia, as well as the Maltese legal system which does not permit divorce at all.
In addition, not all member states recognize same-sex marriages or life partnerships, raising questions about how to deal with recognition and enforcement of such specific court-decisions. But Germany's Brigitte Zypries tried to play down those concerns, saying "the objective is not to harmonize European divorce law - we still let member states decide what marriage and divorce is - but only set common procedure in case of international marriages.Ministers will return to the thorny issue once again in June.

Sudden sea level surges threaten 1 billion By Michael Kahn
Thu Apr 19, 5:31 PM ET
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - More than 1 billion people live in low-lying areas where a sudden surge in sea level could prove as disastrous as the 2004 Asian tsunami, according to new research presented on Thursday. New mapping techniques show how much land would be lost and how many people affected by rapid sea level rises that are often triggered by storms and earthquakes, a U.S. Geological Survey-led team determined.E. Lynn Usery, who led the team, said nearly one-quarter of the world's population lives below 100 feet above sea level -- the size of the biggest surge during the 2004 tsunami that pulverized villages along the Indian Ocean and killed 230,000 people. What we are suggesting is what kind of areas are at risk (in) a catastrophic event, Usery told a meeting of the Association of American Geographers.
The fact that there are that many people living at that sea level means there are probably a lot of people potentially in harm's way.The team also found that a 100-foot (30-meter) rise in sea level would cover 3.7 million square miles of land worldwide.A rise of just 16 feet would affect 669 million people and 2 million square miles of land would be lost.Sea levels are currently rising about 0.04 to 0.08 inches (1 to 2 millimeters) each year, making it unlikely such a scenario would suddenly occur across the globe, Usery said. But he said 10,000 years ago sea levels rose 20 meters in 500 years -- a relatively short span -- after the collapse of the continental ice sheets. It can happen in a short period of time if we look at the historical data, Usery said.More importantly, he said, the new mapping technique provides detail that was previously unavailable and gives policymakers better tools to prepare for potential disasters. With just a mouse click on the computer, researchers can gauge how much land would be lost at various sea levels, and where.
The team developed its own mapping projection software and then plugged in U.S. Geological Survey data on population, elevation and different types of land cover. This can be used by nations in the world to put contingency plans in place, Usery said. We haven't had data sets at this kind of resolution before. The impetus for the project came after the 2004 tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005 underlined the devastating impact sudden sea level surges can have on those living in coastal areas, Usery said.Even though people know low-lying areas like the Netherlands or many parts of Asia are at risk of flooding, many do not realize just how big a risk they are facing.A 30-meter surge in Florida would leave the whole state covered except for a little plateau area, Usery said.
The Nation's Weather By WEATHER UNDERGROUND, For The Associated Press
Thu Apr 19, 5:32 AM ET
A low pressure system was expected to pass through the Rockies and northern Plains on Thursday, bringing rain and high elevation snow. Snow advisories were in effect in areas spanning from Utah through Montana, with several inches expected in parts. High wind advisories were in effect from Arizona through eastern Montana.Rain was expected along the coast of Oregon and Northern California early Thursday and was expected to move southward along the coast throughout the day. Snow was possible in the Sierras and parts of Nevada.Rain and thunderstorms were expected in parts of the Ohio Valley and Southeast, as a small, fast-moving low pressure system works its way through the regions.
Temperatures in the 40s and 50s were expected in the Northeast and in the 70s and 80s in the Southeast. The Rockies were expected to see temperatures in the 30s and 40s, while lower-elevation areas of California were expected to have temperatures ranging from the 60s to the 80s.Temperatures in the lower 48 states on Wednesday ranged from a low of 17 degrees at Embarrass, Minn., to a high of 95 degrees at Goodyear, Ariz.
Colombia volcano erupts, thousands flee By FERNANDO VERGARA, Associated Press Writer Wed Apr 18, 9:03 PM ET
NEIVA, Colombia - Thousands of people were evacuated after a long-dormant volcano erupted late Tuesday and again early Wednesday, provoking avalanches and floods that swept away houses and bridges. The Nevado del Huila volcano's eruptions were its first on record since Colombia was colonized by the Spanish 500 years ago. There are about 10,000 people living in the area around the volcano, and about 3,500 had been evacuated, Luz Amanda Pulido, director of the national disaster office, told The Associated Press after flying over the volcano in southwest Colombia. There were no reports of deaths or injuries. The eruption sent an avalanche of rocks down the volcano's sides and into the Paez and Simbola rivers, causing them to flood.
The bridges were swept away, the highway used by the indigenous in the zone was destroyed for various kilometers (miles) and the problem we have now is the lack of a route to deliver goods and medicines to the population, Police Gen. Orlando Paez said.Experts were not ruling out more eruptions. The seismic activity remains light but permanent, and we can't rule out another bigger event in the next hours or days, said Mario Ballesteros, director of the government's Institute for Geology and Mining. The Nevado del Huila, which is topped with a crown of ice, is Colombia's third-highest peak at 18,484 feet. Located 170 miles southwest of Bogota, it became active again in March with a series of internal rumblings. In 1985, the town of Armero was wiped from the map and 25,000 people were killed when another volcano, the Nevado del Ruiz, exploded and set off a series of mudslides. It was Colombia's worst natural disaster.
Wildfires Destroy 14 Homes in Georgia
Firefighters battle a wildfire near Waycross, Ga. - Provided By: The Associated Press Last Modified: 4/19/2007 3:09:55 PM
WAYCROSS, Ga. (AP) -- Firefighters were making slow progress Thursday against two wildfires that have forced more than 1,000 people from their homes and destroyed 14 houses as they spread over more than 45 square miles of tinder-dry forest in southeast Georgia. The fires threatened the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, one of the nation’s best-preserved wetland areas, with one reaching the outer edges of the refuge, said Eric Mosley, spokesman for the Georgia Forestry Commission. That fire — the larger of the two — burned into a wet prairie area and slowed, officials said. The smaller fire, a little over 3 square miles, had burned to within five miles of the refuge by Thursday morning but was mostly contained, said Shawn Gillette, a spokesman for the refuge.
Firefighters, helped by higher humidity, also made gains in containing the much larger fire, which was 30 percent contained Thursday morning. It began Monday near Waycross when a tree fell on a power line, then raced through the forest.Fourteen homes were destroyed, Mosley said. No deaths were reported, but several firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation or minor injuries, including a firefighter who suffered a broken leg and cuts to his hand. The cause of the smaller fire was still unknown.Southeast Georgia is extremely dry, with rainfall deficits of 6 to 8 inches for the year, officials said. The weather today is probably going to be a little bit better than it has been. The winds seem to have died down, the smoke has lifted some, said Jim Burkhart, a ranger at the Okefenokee refuge. But officials worried about stronger wind over the weekend spreading any flames.Mosley recommended that people stay away from areas affected by the fires and stay inside to avoid smoke, which can be somewhat abrasive to the lungs.Four counties in the Jacksonville, Fla. area — Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns — issued health advisories Tuesday and Wednesday because of the smoke generated by the Georgia fires.(Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press. Syria Threatens War, Olmert Dismissive
by Ezra HaLevi (INN) APR 19,07
Syrian President Bashar Assad said Wednesday that Syria is ready for a war with Israel. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel has no intention of starting that war. Syria grows stronger every day, Assad told the Arabic Dar Al-Hayat daily, adding that Israel is a bitter enemy. He also said that contacts between Syria and Israel take place about once a month, with no results, due to Israels refusal to unilaterally withdraw from the Golan Heights. We do not know whether war will take place, but we should not disregard this possibility, Assad concluded. Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal said Sunday that, If Israel rejects the Arab League peace proposal, resistance will be the only way to liberate the Golan Heights.Israel has annexed the Golan Heights, the high ground overlooking northern Israel, after liberating it from Syria in 1967 during the Six Day War. More than 40,000 Israeli Jews now live in the Golan.Prime Minister Ehud Olmert responded to the threats Wednesday before the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. He said Israel has no intention of attacking Syria and opined that Syria will not attack Israel either, but is talking about defending itself if attacked.
MK Israel Katz (Likud) slammed Olmerts response to Assads war talk during the committee meeting. You are mistaken to think that the Syrians are increasing their strength for self defense, he said, addressing the prime minister. The Syrians are planning a terror attack in the Golan Heights in the summer and are building fortifications to prevent Israel from defending itself when the attack comes. You should be warning the Syrian president, not reassuring him, Katz said. A terror attack perpetrated by Hizbullah along the Lebanese border is what triggered the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
Syria Building Advanced Missile-Launch-Bunkers
The Christian Broadcasting Network has gone into further detail about Syrias preparations for war. Missile expert Uzi Rubin describes what he terms Syrias Cape Canaveral, referring to the headquarters of the American NASA space agency. One installation features Syrian missile launchers housed in more than 30 huge concrete bunkers surrounding an operations command center. They learned the trick that even shorter-range missiles that are fired in salvos from multiple rocket launchers are very effective against Israel's civilian population, Rubin said. Another military site includes a drive-through building were chemical warheads are stored. The Scud D can hit any point in Israel from the furthermost point in Syria near the Iraqi border, Rubin says. It was done specifically in order to have this range to hit every single point in Israel.
UN Concerned
The UN Security Council issued an expression of serious concern Tuesday in response to concrete reports of the amassing of Syrian arms smuggled over the border to Lebanon. The council dispatched a mission to assess the implementation of UN resolution 1701, which brought the Second Lebanon War to a close with guarantees that the UN would prevent the smuggling of arms to the Hizbullah from Syria. The council called on Syria to take further measures to prevent arms transfers.

Iran would cut the hand of any attacker by Farhad Pouladi
Wed Apr 18, 8:53 AM ET
TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran on Wednesday warned that its armed forces would cut off the hand of an enemy and Tehran would consider using oil as a weapon if the Islamic republic was attacked over its nuclear programme. Our army has a defensive mission and not an offensive one. But it is completely ready to confront any aggressor and cut off their hand, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told a military parade to mark army day on the outskirts of Tehran. The army and armed forces must be more ready with each passing day, he told the forces outside the shrine of Iran's revolutionary founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.Meanwhile, Iran's oil minister refused to rule out using oil as a weapon in the standoff with the West over its nuclear programme, saying that Tehran would use every means if attacked.
The Islamic Republic of Iran's policy is to supply energy as a responsibility. We are never seeking to cut the energy supplies to the world, Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh told an energy conference in Tehran.
But naturally every country, which is subject to danger or attack, should use all its possibilities to defend itself and this is every country's right, he said.Analysts have said that Tehran could cause oil prices to surge if it cut off the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping channel, which would trigger a massive disruption in global supplies. The United States has refused to rule out the option of military action to force Iran to halt its atomic drive which Washington suspects is aimed at making weapons. Iran insists that its nuclear programme is peaceful.Iran's repeated refusal to suspend sensitive uranium enrichment operations has already brought two sets of UN sanctions targeting its ballistics and nuclear industries. The military parade in Tehran showed off regiment after regiment of ground forces, tanks, a new set of drones as well as medium-range Nazeat (Meteor) missiles one of which was inscribed Death to Israel.
However, Iran's longer-range ballistic missiles, which are under the control of the Revolutionary Guards, were not on display and there was no sign of any hitherto unknown weaponry. They think that with sanctions on our weapons we would be paralysed but we have succeeded in producing all we need in arms, said Ahmadinejad in the brief address. In the military parade, Iran showed off a succession of drones with names like Oqab (Eagle), Sayad (Hunter) and Azarakhsh (Thunderbolt) which it said were able to confront "any aerial or ground threat by the enemy. Also on display were Zelzal-2 (Quake) missiles which are said to have a range of 100 to 400 kilometres (60 to 250 miles) and Nazeat missiles which have a range of around 100 kilometres.Other units taking part in the parade included a regiment of motorcyclists with shoulder-launched missiles as well as divers equipped with aqualungs on top of their mini-submarines.Ahmadinejad said that despite the standoff over its nuclear programme, Iran wanted to have friendly relations with all countries, with the exception of Israel which it refuses to recognise.
Our people hold out the hand of friendship to all the peoples. We want friendly and just relations with all the peoples except the Zionist regime, he said.Ahmadinejad, who returned briefly to Tehran for the parade from a continuing trip to the southern Fars province, has repeatedly insisted that Iran has no intention of giving in to Western demands over its nuclear drive. Iran has defiantly announced that its uranium enrichment activities have reached an industrial scale although Western observers stay there is still uncertainty over what stage its nuclear programme has in fact reached.
Former Hitler youth makes comparisons about Hitler and Islam
Chad Groening OneNewsNow.com April 19, 2007
Author Hilmar von Campe, a former Hitler Youth member and German soldier, sees shocking parallels between Nazi Germany under Hitler and radical Islam. He has written an autobiography describing his life as an active participant in -- and his remorse over -- what he calls the greatest tragedy of the 20th century. In the book, titled How Was it Possible?, von Campe discusses the appeasement of the 1930s. If the British and the French had realized how evil Hitler and the Nazis were and what their real purposes were, he observes, they could have prevented another world war, if they had acted two years or so earlier.Von Campe says even though the Allies eventually defeated Hitler, his ideology survives today. The Nazi ideology comes back through the back door, so to speak, through Islam, the author asserts. And unfortunately, he notes, even Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has apparently forgotten the lessons of the past in his willingness to give in to Islamic demands in the hopes that they will become friends.
Unfortunately, in appeasing Islamic leaders, the Israeli prime minister has taken the same approach as those European leaders of the 1930s, von Campe contends. Olmert, to me, belongs to the suicide cult, he says, because the suicide cult, they believe that if you give in here a little point and there a little point, then we will make friends of Islam or whoever. However, this is a mistake, von Campe insists. Appeasement of radical Islamists does not work, he says, because if you give up one thing, then they come and want the next thing. You give them that, then they come with another one.American Family News Network - All Rights Reserved
Netanyahu Going Into Action to Topple Olmert
by Gil Ronen (INN) APR 19,07
Likud Chairman and head of the Opposition Binyamin Netanyahu has decided to abandon his wait-and-see strategy and to launch a public campaign for toppling Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government. In a rally held Tuesday at the Likud headquarters building Metzudat Ze'ev' in Tel Aviv, Netanyahu reportedly told his supporters this government has to go home and we need to start acting to make this happen. He told them to begin holding weekly protest vigils every Friday in busy intersections throughout Israel as well as street demonstrations. The slogan is simple, he said: You've Failed Go Home'.According to NRG, the meeting was attended by dozens of Likud branch chairmen and other central activists from all parts of Israel. Netanyahu informed them of a working plan for country-wide protest vigils with the intention of creating an atmosphere conducive to bringing down the government. Netanyahu assured the activists that he would be joining the protests on a regular basis.
Netanyahu's move appears to be timed with precision, as the date of release of the interim report by the Winograd Commission approaches. The Winograd Commission was appointed to investigate failures in the conduct of the Second Lebanon War last summer and is expected to have harsh criticism for the government and its heads. Prime Minister Olmert has received record-setting low marks of support in the polls, one of which recently gave him an amazingly low 3% support level less than the margin of error. The polls also predict the Likud will receive 30 to 35 Knesset seats compared to its present representation of 12 MKs. The polls have consistently predicted an election outcome that would make it possible for Netanyahu to handily form a coalition based on a partnership with the National Union/NRP and Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu, which are expected to garner about 20 seats between them, and a haredi religious party like Shas, which is expected to receive about 10 seats. In addition, a recent poll gave Arkadi Gaydamak 9 seats, assuming he will indeed form a political party as he has said he would.
In interviews he gave the press at the start of the Passover holiday, Netanyahu said he felt ripe for the position of Prime Minister and had learned his lessons from his previous term at the government's helm. He also predicted Olmert's government would fall prematurely due to public pressure. Olmert's government has thus far proven stable, despite its decline in popularity. There is some apprehension among Olmert's opponents who maintain that a deal between Olmert and the media may be in the works, in which the media would prop him up in exchange for his adoption of a far left agenda.
This Week with Rabbi Eckstein
April 20, 2007
Dear Friend of The Fellowship,
On May 14, 1948, Jewish leaders gathered in Tel Aviv to announce the birth of the modern state of Israel. This state, they declared, "will be open to the immigration of Jews from all countries of their dispersion; will promote the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; will be based on the precepts of liberty, justice and peace taught by the Hebrew prophets. Further, it would extend our hand to all neighboring states and their peoples … and appeal to them to establish bonds of cooperation and mutual help with the sovereign Jewish people.Israel Independence Day, which will be observed next Monday, commemorates this monumental event. It is a fitting time to recall these words from the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel, and to reflect upon the principles set forth in that document. And with the current volatile state of affairs in the Holy Land, it is equally important to consider the ideals expressed in the Hamas Charter, the founding document of the party currently leading the Palestinian Authority.
What kind of a nation was created by Israel's founding fathers who drafted the Declaration of the State of Israel? It is a Jewish state, but one where freedom of religion is written into law and respected in practice. It is a democratic, multi-ethnic state where differences are addressed through an orderly - though sometimes rambunctious - political process. It is a state whose founding citizens followed the call of David Ben-Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, to "make the desert bloom, transforming barren desert into lush and productive farmland. It is a state formed by survivors of one of the worst calamities in history, the Holocaust, which nonetheless has shown astounding levels of economic growth. It is a state that since its founding has been trying to realize the dream of peace and cooperation with its neighbors.
If you want to understand the source of the hostility between Israel and her Palestinian neighbors, you don't have to look much further than the differences in their founding documents. The Hamas charter, unlike Israel's stirring declaration of independence, is full of strident calls for attacking and eliminating Israel (which it calls the Zionist invaders) and paranoid anti-Semitic delusions about Jews' causing war and controlling the world banking system. It even flatly declares that so-called peaceful solutions … are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement. With this as their foundation, perhaps it's not surprising that the Palestinians live in a society ruled by violence and chaos. It seems every day there is another murder, another innocent bystander shot in Gaza - the fruit of a bitter power struggle between rival Hamas and Fatah parties. It is a society whose leaders define success not in terms of its positive accomplishments for the Palestinian people, but by the depth of its hatred for Israel. Foreign aid money that could be used to feed hungry Palestinians, repair crumbling infrastructure, or create jobs - the unemployment rate in the Palestinian territories is 50 percent by some estimates - is routinely siphoned off to purchase weapons. Even the Palestinian Finance Minister has admitted that hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the Palestinians has been misappropriated.
Years ago, former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said something that is just as relevant then as it is today: There will be peace in the Middle East only when the Arabs love their children more than they hate Israel. This is the root of the problem. Israel wants and is willing to compromise for peace - but Palestinian leadership wants to destroy Israel more than it wants to provide a decent life for its own people. I encourage you to read the Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel and excerpts from the Hamas Charter we have posted on our site and the see if you don't think they paint accurate pictures of the societies that sprang from them.Recognizing the profound difference between the two peoples' values and ethos, you can understand why Israel must defend herself - and why she depends on friends like you to pray and act for the peace of Jerusalem. With prayers for shalom, peace,
Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

Sudden sea level surges threaten 1 billion By Michael Kahn

Cho's package to NBC contained pictures of himself with guns
The student who shot dead at least 30 people at Virginia Tech sent a package to the US TV network NBC News on the day of the shootings, police said. The package contained disturbing photographs, video and writings, NBC said, posted from the college campus between the two rounds of killings.
Cho Seung-hui is shown pointing guns at the camera, and ranting angrily. A total of 33 people, including the gunman himself, died in shootings at two locations on Monday. You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today, the 23-year-old gunman said angrily, in an excerpt shown on NBC Nightly News.
But you decided to spill my blood. You forced me into a corner and gave me only one option. The decision was yours. Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off, Cho said. I didn't have to do this. I could have left. I could have fled. But now I will no longer run, the gunman said.
Police have revealed that Cho was admitted to a mental health unit in late 2005. He was sent for evaluation after two female students made complaints against him, they said.
Very angry
NBC said a time stamp on the package indicated it was sent in the two-hour interval between two killings in a dormitory and a second, massive round of killings in a classroom building. The envelope, sent to NBC's headquarters in New York, was slightly misaddressed and carried the wrong postal zip code, which delayed its delivery by a day. The TV network said the package was received in Wednesday morning's mail. Memorials have been erected on the Virginia Tech campus It contained an 1,800-word diatribe and 43 photos, 11 of them showing Cho aiming handguns at the camera. He also sent 28 video clips. Head of NBC News Steve Capus said it had a rambling, manifesto-like statement embedded with a series of photographs.Mr Capus said the material was hard-to-follow... disturbing, very disturbing - very angry, profanity-laced, but did not contain any images of Monday's shootings.
Student complaints
Two people were killed at the West Ambler Johnston Hall, a university dormitory, at 0715 on Monday. Two hours later Cho killed 30 others, plus himself, at the Norris Hall complex across campus. Authorities have not yet linked the 23-year-old to any of those he killed. Police say the same gun was used at both locations but have not definitely proved that Cho was at West Ambler Johnston at the time of the shootings there. The complaints by students against Cho were made in November and December 2005, around the time Cho's English teachers raised concerns over his writing and general behaviour. In the aftermath of the shootings, teachers and fellow students have spoken of Cho's extreme moods, violent writings and unpredictable behaviour.

Utilities still struggling after storm By CLARKE CANFIELD, Associated Press Writer APR 18,07
PORTLAND, Maine - Utility crews cut their way through downed trees Wednesday to restore service to thousands of customers still without power since a huge weekend storm battered the East Coast. Communities from New Jersey to Maine were still coping with stream flooding after the storm dumped more than 8 inches of rain in places, along with coastal flooding brought on by astronomical high tides and heavy surf.Seventeen deaths were blamed on the weather system.New Hampshire safety officials made plans Wednesday to breach the 19th century Hayden Mill Pond dam at Hollis to relieve the pressure of high water from the storm and avert a failure. A dozen families living near the six-acre reservoir were evacuated Tuesday evening and National Guard troops closed part of a highway as a precaution.
More than 50,000 businesses and residences remained without power Wednesday in Maine, where Central Maine Power Co. was being helped by repair crews from neighboring New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and as far away as Pennsylvania.Utility officials warned that some people might be without power until the end of the week.
It's a huge number of trees that are down, so it's a big job cutting those away, said CMP spokesman John Carroll. Plus there are 250 broken poles. That's an
enormous number of poles.Utilities in New Hampshire reported nearly 19,000 homes and businesses still had no electricity Wednesday and said some might not be reconnected until the weekend. In many areas, road damage and fallen trees blocked repair crews' access, said New Hampshire Electric Cooperative spokesman Seth Wheeler. There are 18 different tree crews we've hired ... just clearing trees first before the line crews can get in there and do construction, Wheeler said.
About 1,700 New Jersey residents were in emergency shelters Wednesday because of flooding, up slightly from the day before, as more rivers crested. Rescue crews went house to house by boat in a flooded section of Fairfield asking if residents of any of about three dozen homes needed to be evacuated, said State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones. The numbers are fluctuating, actually going down in some places as folks go home, but rising in others as people who had been holding out just give in and go to a shelter, Jones said.Sections of some New Jersey highways were still closed by standing water Wednesday.More than 80 New Hampshire roads remained closed by high water or damage, said Department of Transportation spokesman Bill Boynton. Most were expected to be reopened soon, but it could take weeks to repair landslide damage to Route 101 in Wilton, he said.
New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch had asked the Federal Emergency Management Agency to start a preliminary damage assessment in all 10 counties to determine eligibility for federal disaster relief. Many New Hampshire communities have been overwhelmed by all the flooding, he said.Swollen rivers in Massachusetts were receding but waves still crashed over sea walls and flooded coastal roads early Wednesday, authorities said. Two families were evacuated from oceanfront homes in Duxbury, Mass., late Tuesday but were able to return Wednesday morning, fire Capt. Skip Chandler said. Their homes had knee-deep water on the ground floor, he said. Thank goodness it wasn't worse,he said. Most roads had reopened in the suburbs north of New York City, as homeowners in Westchester County piled water-ruined carpets and furniture in heaps outside. On Fire Island, a barrier island along the south side of New York's Long Island, some homes were clinging to narrow beaches atop rickety pilings because the storm's waves had scoured the sand out from beneath them. There's nothing I can do, said homeowner Bill Raymond, 55. You've got to keep your fingers crossed.
The Nation's Weather By WEATHER UNDERGROUND, For The Associated Press
Wed Apr 18, 5:55 AM ET
A storm system that dumped rain on parts of the West will continue to move eastward on Wednesday, bringing rain and light snow to parts of the Rockies and high Plains. Northern California and Washington are expected to also experience rain, while scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely in the northern high Plains. Temperatures in the 30s and 40s are expected in the Northwest.
Light to moderate snow and coastal rain are expected in New England, while light snow is also possible over parts of the Great Lakes region, turning into rain later in the day.A low pressure system that caused severe weather over Texas on Tuesday is expected to move through the lower Mississippi Valley and parts of the Southeast on Wednesday, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys, moving into parts of the Mid-Atlantic region by evening.Temperatures in the lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of 16 degrees at Alpine, Ariz., to a high of 90 degrees at Imperial, Calif.
House topples, highway closes in Daniel's Harbour
Last Updated: Wednesday, April 18, 2007 | 2:02 PM NT - CBC News
Landslides in a town on Newfoundland's west coast claimed their first house Wednesday, as officials restricted traffic on a nearby highway.A series of landslides have caused several structures to tumble down a steep cliff in Daniel's Harbour.(CBC) The house, a bungalow, slid down a steep cliff in Daniel's Harbour. It has toppled off the edge of the embankment … and is now gone, CBC reporter Bernice Hillier said early Wednesday afternoon.People here are pretty upset about this. They, I guess, didn't think that this was going to happen, Hillier said.
Here's a house where a man has worked all his life, and put so much into, raised a family, and now it's gone.RCMP have closed traffic in both directions on Route 430, better known as the Northern Peninsula Highway.Traffic was first closed after midnight, but reopened for a few hours on Wednesday morning.Hillier said crews are now trying to find an alternate route to the Northern Peninsula Highway. The precautions were taken in the wake of a series of landslides — including a large slide on Sunday morning that pushed tonnes of soil into the Gulf of St. Lawrence — that have put a series of Daniel's Harbour structures at risk.Six homes and one business have been cleared because they are in danger of sliding down a cliff.Owners of two of the homes were told earlier this week to evacuate. Orders for the rest had been made last fall, in the wake of a massive landslide last October.
Derrick Biggin, who left his home on Monday, said he salvaged most of his material possessions, but that he is losing much more than that. When those houses do end up in the drink, it's going to be very dramatic to everyone involved. … It's part of you, Biggin said. It's been part of you for 30-plus years and it's hard to get over those things.Biggin said he expects to lose his house before the week is out.
A series of small landslides after Sunday's massive tumble have chewed away at the narrowing safety zone leading to the highway, which runs along the side of a vertical cliff where all the slides have occurred.
Democrats Easter message censors Christ, Resurrection
Fear offending non-Christians
Dear Stan,
First, the politcally correct crowd tried to take Christ out of Christmas. Now, the Democratic Party has taken Christ and the Resurrection out of Easter. On March 30, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued a press statement titled DNC Offers Passover Greetings.
The press statement read: On Monday night, Jews around the world will begin celebrating Passover, a week-long holiday that commemorates the Israelites' freedom from persecution and slavery.A week later, Dean and the DNC issued another statement concerning Easter: Easter Sunday is a joyful celebration. The holiday represents peace, redemption and renewal, a theme which brings hope to people of all faiths.
The DNC refused to even mention Jesus or the Resurrection, the very heart of Easter. The DNC took one of two unique Christian holy days and turned it into a politically correct religious day. The DNC treated Easter as if was not unique to the Christian faith, and made it into a nondescript, universal, nonexclusive religious celebration celebrated by every religion in the world. The DNC greeting had not one word to say about the Resurrection, but said Easter represents peace, redemption and renewal. They define the Jewish holy day correctly, as they should. But to keep from offending any non-Christian, the DNC takes the Christian Easter and defines it in a politically correct manner.
Intentionally offending Christians is something the DNC doesn’t mind doing.

CHRISTIAN BOOKSTORE BOMBED IN GAZA
Joshua Fund offers to help rebuild this lighthouse in the darkness
By Joel C. Rosenberg
(Washington, D.C., April 16, 2007) -- Just a week ago, our Joshua Fund team was in Jerusalem, getting a briefing from Palestinian, Egyptian and Jordanian evangelical leaders, including two brave Christian leaders from Gaza.
They shared with us the intense opposition they face from radical Muslims who will stop at nothing to keep the good news of Jesus's love for all mankind from being heard in the Palestinian-controlled territories. They explained that hundreds of Muslims have turned to faith in Christ over the past year despite such opposition. They also asked us to pray not that the persecution would stop, but that they and their Christian colleagues would have the courage both to endure and to truly love their Muslim neighbors and their jihadist enemies the way Christ loved the lost while on earth. Yesterday just seven days after that meeting I received the following email from an Arab believer in Gaza:
At 2:00 am on Sunday, two cars with masked gunmen parked in front of the Bible Society office in Gaza and kidnapped the security guard. An hour later they returned and placed a large bomb on the doors.
The damage is very big. We thank the Lord that there were no injuries....The team is strong and encouraged in the Lord, [One Palestinian Christian leader] has gone down to Gaza this morning to stand by them and give them support, as well to start the process of fixing and reopening the bookshop. At noon time a group from the Ministry of Culture will come to show their support and their denial towards such an act. This is expected to draw more attention by the media who has been covering this attack since it took place early morning. Many channels including Al-Jazeera have reported this story.
The Associated Press also reported on the story: Three explosions hit Gaza City early Sunday, damaging two Internet cafes and a Christian bookstore. No one was hurt and no group claimed responsibility for the blasts, which took place around 3 a.m. local time, Palestinian security officials said. Several similar attacks on Internet cafes and music stores in recent months have been claimed by a little-known extremist Islamic organization calling itself the Swords of Truth.
The officials would not speculate on the identity of those behind the Sunday attacks, saying only that the incidents were under investigation. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. Heavy external damage was visible at the three stores. At the bookstore, which is funded by American Protestants and known as the Bible Society, a number of books were also burned in the explosion. In recent months, about three dozen Internet cafes and shops selling pop music have been attacked in the Gaza Strip, with assailants detonating small bombs outside businesses at night, causing damage but no injuries. Palestinian security officials have said they suspect a secret vice squad of Muslim militants.Another Arab ministry leader wrote to me, saying: Our staff and the Bible society staff are all safe, but the challenge is what is coming. Please pray for wisdom to continue the ministry and a protection for staff and their disciples who from [a Muslim] background.
I agree as Jewish and Gentile believers, let us join together to pray for our brothers and sisters and ask the Lord to prevent radical jihadists from being able to silence the gospel as they so desperately desire. And let us remember what Jesus told us in Matthew 16:18: I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. (KJV)
The Joshua Fund has offered to help finance the rebuilding of this lighthouse in the darkness. We'll let you know the details of this project as soon as we can.

ElBaradei sees nuclear-arms-free Mideast as inevitable (Roundup)
Apr 15, 2007, 14:35 GMT
Amman - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director Mohamed ElBaradei on Sunday expected the eventua emergence of a Middle East free of nuclear arms that also includes Israel and Iran. Eventually, a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction that also assembles Israel and Iran is inevitable, ElBaradei told reporters after a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan. This will be the last chance for us to set up a Middle East security order that is based on cooperation and confidence rather than on the possession of nuclear arms, he said. The IAEA chief criticized the double standards applied to Israel on the one hand and other countries in the region on the other as far as nuclear programmes were concerned. There has been a mistake in dealing with this (Israeli) nuclear file over the past five decades, he said. ElBaradei blamed Arab countries for joining the nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT) without Israel's joining of the agreement or stipulating that Israel joins it at a later stage.
This was a mistake that led to imbalance, with Israel possessing a nuclear deterrent while Arab states committing themselves to programmes for peaceful uses, he said. However, there is an opportunity for taking the security aspect into account as part of the peace process, he added.
When a just and comprehensive peace is established between the Arab states and Israel, it should be forged in parallel with a security order based on wiping out all weapons of mass destruction, he said. Responding to a question, ElBaradei said he had not so far come to the conclusion that the Iranian nuclear programme was set up for military purposes. We still have enough time ahead for resolving this problem through peaceful means. The Iranian issue cannot be resolved except through dialogue, he added. He said any military solution to the Iranian nuclear standoff will be irrational, catastrophic and will complicate the problem further.ElBaradei said that he would be dispatching an IAEA team to Jordan next week to conduct a serious and comprehensive study to help Jordan set up its own nuclear programme. Iran Recruiting Israeli Jews as Spies
by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz 29 Nisan 5767, April 17, '07
(IsraelNN.com) The General Security Services (GSS) recently uncovered a new effort to recruit Jews with family or other interests in Iran into the service of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and National Security (VEVAK), the Islamic Republic's chief intelligence agency. According to information released by senior GSS officials on Tuesday, at least ten Israelis have passed the first stage of
recruitment and have received money from Iran. All ten were recruited when visiting relatives in Iran, but none have been indicted, as they had not yet passed any information on to their handlers. According to a senior GSS source, the last year has seen an increase in Iranian intelligence activities targeting Israel, including approximately 100 attempts by Iranian agents to recruit Israeli Jews visiting family members in Iran. In exchange for the promise of information about events in Israel, the Islamic Republic has paid thousands of US dollars to Israeli Jewish collaborators.
Iran, the senior GSS source explained, identified in the trips by Israelis to Iran an opportunity to serve its interests in espionage against Israel. The recruitment process begins at the Iranian Consulate in Turkey, where Israelis who wish to visit Iran go to obtain entry permits. There are no current restrictions on Israelis visiting the Islamic Republic, which has not been legally declared an enemy state. Israelis seeking entry to Iran are grilled for information in Turkey by agents of VEVAK presenting themselves as consular diplomats. The Israelis are asked about their family ties and military service, as well as about political and social issues in the Jewish State, among other topics. In some cases, Israelis have been questioned for hours on end in an isolated room inside the Iranian Consulate. Once in Iran, the visiting Israeli identified by the Iranian agents as a potential recruit is put through a lengthy series of interviews with VEVAK agents. There have been cases of Israelis refusing to cooperate with the Iranian authorities at this stage, leading to their arrest for several months.
Once an Israeli tourist has been successfully recruited, the VEVAK agents may request seemingly innocuous tasks of them upon their return home. Israelis have been asked to do such things as provide Iran with pictures of certain places in Israel, identify key figures in Israeli society and recruit an acquaintance as an agent for Iran, as well. I see Israeli Jews leaving the country for business or family visits in Iran, where they are recruited for the purposes of spying, as a serious phenomenon, the GSS official continued. This time, we did not file charges, but in the future, we will not restrain ourselves from prosecuting such people.Commenting on the reports of Israeli Jewish spies in the employ of Iran, Knesset Member Aryeh Eldad (National Union-NRP) said that the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee must quickly finalize the draft of his legislative bill defining Iran as an enemy state. Eldad submitted the bill several months ago, in an effort to fill the legal lacuna left by Israel's previous friendly relations with the Persian state under the deposed Shah. Eldad said that, if the process is given top priority, the draft law could be completed and brought to the plenum within a week.
Drought uncovers Australia's drowned town by Neil Sands APR 18,07
ADAMINABY, Australia (AFP) - Australia's worst drought in a century has uncovered a town deliberately flooded 50 years ago as part of a massive hydro-electricity scheme, stirring painful memories for former residents. Adaminaby, a small farming town nestled in the Snowy Mountains on the border between New South Wales and Victoria states, was submerged under 30 metres (98.5 feet) of water in 1957 when the local valley was dammed to form the man-made Lake Eucumbene. The settlement was never expected to be seen again but the severity of the drought has evaporated most of the lake, bringing it back to the surface. We couldn't believe it when the old streets started to reappear, said Leigh Stewart, a local history buff who grew up in the old town and once ran a shop there. It brought back a lot of memories, I can still see in my mind's eye how the town was, he adds, gesturing around the muddy wreckage of what was once his family home.Stewart said the town's re-emergence was a striking demonstration of the severity of the drought. It shows how bad the situation is around here, he said.
The dam's at about 20 percent capacity now and it's getting worse. We're all hoping it turns around soon and we get some consistent rains that will fill the lake again.
The hills around the lake are topped with green vegetation that stops abruptly at a line mid-way down the valley, replaced with brown mud that marks the old shoreline, some 30 metres above the current water level.
The sloping main street of the old town, its bitumen eroded from decades underwater, is now being used by locals as a boat ramp to access the depleted Lake Eucumbene. Shards of pottery, rusted batteries, bottles and other remnants of everyday life in the old town dry in the sun, with the foundations of old houses covered by a thick layer of silt from what used to be the bed of the lake. The blackened skeletons of trees drowned half a century ago poke out from the water about 50 metres (165 foot) from the current shoreline in a straight row, still marking the route of a road they once lined in the old town.A flight of concrete steps leads up to the remains of the St Mary's Catholic Church, now reduced to a few tilting brick columns and rotten wooden floorboards. It was at the top of these stairs that Greg and Mary Russell were sprinkled with confetti when they were married 60 years ago.Greg, now 82, said he had mixed feelings wandering the streets in the old town where he played as a child. It's sad and it makes me a bit nostalgic, he told AFP. We had some good times there and it's strange to see it this way now.
The creation of Lake Eucumbene was one of the largest projects in the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, a huge post-war engineering project designed to harness the power of the Snowy River. The scheme involved building seven power stations and 16 dams, linked by 145 kilometres (90 miles) of tunnels through the mountains and 80 kilometres (50 miles) of viaducts.
More than 100,000 workers were involved in its construction, many of them refugees from war-ravaged European communities whose arrival permanently altered Australia's demographics, diluting the predominance of those from British roots. Tiny Adaminaby, a hamlet of about 700 people, stood in the way of the ambitious nation-building project and policy-makers in Canberra decided it must be sacrificed in the name of progress. We were told we had to move, said Anne Kennedy, who was still a child when her home was flooded. A lot of us never wanted to go, my father tried to chase them down the street with a gun, but they said it was for the good of the nation and we had no choice in the matter. A contemporary photograph taken at the ceremony to mark commencement of the dam's construction shows the townsfolk dressed in their Sunday best, their sombre, worried expressions contrasting with the official bunting and celebratory placards.
More than 50 buildings from the old town were moved nine kilometres away over a hill to the town that now bears the name Adaminaby. Some timber houses were simply lifted onto the back of trucks and driven to the new settlement, others such as St John's Church of England were dismantled stone-by-stone and rebuilt. Kennedy said only about 250 of Adaminaby's residents resettled in the new town, the rest took compensation packages they regarded as woefully inadequate and moved elsewhere. She said the town, which had once been a thriving local hub, struggled as its regional rivals prospered with the development of ski-fields and other tourism attractions in the area. Many locals developed a deep mistrust of outsiders because they felt they had been betrayed when their community was relocated, she said. We had an influx of new people a few years ago who bought retirement homes here, she said. People weren't very welcoming because they didn't trust outsiders after what happened with the relocation. Adaminaby was starting to get a reputation as an unfriendly place.Kennedy's solution was to begin work on a huge quilt showing the town's history that involved all members of the community working together in the local town hall for two years. She said the plan successfully brought the community together and the re-emergence of the old town now also gave displaced townsfolk a chance to come to terms with the past. It lets people say goodbye to the old town because they never really had a chance to do that originally, she said. She was also hopeful the ruins of the old town could become a tourist attraction to bring visitors to modern Adaminaby. Who knows? she said. At least it would mean something good came from all of this.
3 slain at Bible distributor in Turkey By BENJAMIN HARVEY, Associated Press Writer APR 18,07
ISTANBUL, Turkey - Assailants tied up three people at a publishing house that distributes Bibles in Turkey and then slit their throats Wednesday, adding to a string of attacks apparently targeting the country's tiny Christian minority. The killings occurred in Malatya, a city in central Turkey known as a hotbed of Turkish nationalism and is the hometown of Mehmet Ali Agca, the gunman who tried to
assassinate Pope John Paul II in 1981.Malatya Gov. Ibrahim Dasoz said two of the victims at the Zirve publishing house were found already dead and the third died after being taken to the hospital.
All had their throats cut and their hands and legs were bound, he said.Dasoz said police detained four suspects and were investigating whether another man who suffered head injuries when he jumped from the window of the publisher's office may have been involved in the attack. He was reported undergoing surgery for his injury.
The German Embassy said one victim was German. I am shocked that a German citizen is among the victims. Even if the exact circumstances of the crime are not yet known, I most strongly condemn this brutal crime, German Ambassador Eckart Cuntz said in a statement.
Another victim was Turkish, Dasoz said, but he could not confirm the nationality of the third person killed.Zirve's general manager told CNN-Turk television that his employees had recently been threatened. We know that they have been receiving some threats, Hamza Ozant said, but could not say who made the threats. The publishing house had been targeted previously in protests by nationalists who accused it of proselytizing in this overwhelmingly Muslim but officially secular country, Dogan news agency reported.Making up less than 1 percent of Turkey's 70 million people, Christians have increasingly become targets amid what some fear is a rising tide of hostility toward non-Muslims.In February 2006, a teenager fatally shot a Catholic priest as he prayed in his church, and two more Catholic priests were attacked later in the year. A November visit by Pope Benedict XVI was greeted by nonviolent protests, and early this year a gunman killed Armenian Christian editor Hrant Dink.

Slain Israeli Professor Saved Others in Va. Tech Massacre
by Gil Ronen 29 Nisan 5767, 4/17/2007
(IsraelNN.com) As Israel observed Holocaust Day, thousands of miles away, A Rumanian-born Holocaust survivor gave his life in another senseless murder - and apparently in an act of heroism. Among the 32 people killed by a lone gunman at Virginia Tech Monday is 77-year-old engineering professor, Liviu Librescu, a citizen of Israel.
According to eyewitness accounts, Librescu ran to the door of his classroom and blocked it with his body – preventing the gunman from entering but getting shot to death himself as a result. Alec Calhoun, a 20-year-old student who had been in Librescu's class in room 204, told a reporter that at 9:05 a.m. the heard screams and a loud banging sound from the next-door classroom. When the students realized it was gunfire, he said, some hid behind tables, and others leapt from the classroom's windows. Calhoun himself was among the last to jump. Before I jumped from the window, I turned around and looked at the professor, who stayed behind, maybe to block the door. He had been killed.Librescu is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marlena, who was with him in Virginia, and sons Aryeh and Joe who are in Israel. They intend to bury him in Israel.
Asael Arad, an Israeli student who visited the widow after the tragedy, told Army Radio Tuesday that Marlena had been receiving e-mails from students who credited Prof. Librescu with saving their lives. I lost my best friend, the widow told a reporter for NRG at her home near the Blacksburg campus. He was a great person, who loved teaching more than anything. Marlena said someone had initially informed her that her husband was injured in the shooting. I looked for him in the hospitals all day but I didn't find him, she said. The Librescus are Rumanian Jews who came on aliyah (immigrated to Israel) in 1978 – after then-Prime Minister Begin interceded on their behalf with the Rumanian government, according to Marlena. The couple went on a sabbatical to the United States since 1986 and has been living there ever since.

Candlelight vigil at Virginia Tech -By Mike Wereschagin
TRIBUNE-REVIEW - Wednesday, April 18, 2007
BLACKSBURG, Va. Thirty-three bred a gathering of thousands. Here, on the soft grass of the Drill Field, between two pieces of a catastrophe, the heart of Virginia Tech glowed last night. A candlelight vigil, organized by students in remembrance of the 33 students and professors gunned down Monday in the worst shooting in modern U.S. history, drew more than 10,000. Many left campus yesterday to be with family, draining the school of still more students. Last night became a testimony from those who remained a resurrection of place. I plan to go on, said Thomas Connors, 22, a senior from Charlotte, N.C. Leaving was never a thought. All my friends feel that way.For some, it was the first time they'd seen their friends since Monday morning, when the campus was locked down and no one knew who remained alive. It's good to see you, was, for a night, a powerful enough greeting to elicit tears.
This is the way the community is around here, said Crystal Horning, 44, a municipal worker in nearby Christiansburg. Her husband, Leslie, 43, said the size of the gathering came as no surprise.
The challenge is how to recognize and accept (the shooting), and move on with our lives, he said. You can't bury it.Organizers set up six double-sided white, wooden placards which will stand there until Sunday and attached black markers. Well-wishers posted messages of defiance, solidarity and eternity. The crowd began trickling onto the field nearly an hour before the scheduled 8 p.m. start. By the time the vigil began, a shimmering sea of soft orange light coated the field, the participants standing so close and in such numbers that it was difficult to tell where one person stopped and the next began.
We heal. We come back, said Gade Kimsawatde, 21, a bio-technology major from Bangkok, Thailand. She wanted to leave earlier to be with family until university classes resume Monday, but as a resident assistant, she stayed an extra day to make sure people on her dormitory floor were doing all right. This is love, Zenobia Hikes, vice president of student affairs at the school, said, speaking to the crowd. Look after each other.Brief remarks from Hikes, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and student leaders lasted only about nine minutes. For about a half-hour afterward, they stood silently, sang Amazing Grace and broke into a boisterous, spontaneous call-and-response: Let's go! came the cry. Hokies! the reply.
Between speakers, the massive assembly stayed hushed through a moment of silence, and remained still during a long, slow rendition of Taps played by a member of the school's Corps of Cadets. And when it was over, they didn't leave. They raised their candles higher. Mike Wereschagin can be reached at mwereschagin@tribweb.com or (412) 391-0927.

UNFORTUNATELY THE BIBLE TELLS ME THE OPPOSITE THAT WW3 STARTS AT THE EUPHRATES RIVER IN IRAQ AND OR SYRIA. NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED AS 1/2 OF EARTHS POPULATION DIE.
