2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.(DICTATOR COMES FROM NEW AGE OR OCCULT)
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death;(MURDERERD) and his deadly wound was healed:(COMES BACK TO LIFE) and all the world wondered after the beast.(THE WORLD THINKS ITS GOD IN THE FLESH, MESSIAH TO ISRAEL)
4 And they worshipped the dragon (SATAN) which gave power unto the beast:(JEWISH EU DICTATOR) and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?(FALSE RESURRECTION,SATAN BRINGS HIM TO LIFE)
5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.(GIVEN WORLD CONTROL FOR 3 1/2YRS)
6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God,(HES A GOD HATER) to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.(HES A LIBERAL OR DEMOCRAT,WILL PUT ANYTHING ABOUT GOD DOWN)
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints,(BEHEAD THEM) and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.(WORLD DOMINATION)
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.(WORLD DICTATOR)
9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
10 He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.(SAVED CHRISTIANS AND JEWS DIE FOR THEIR FAITH AT THIS TIME,NOW WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE BUT DURING THE 7 YEARS OF HELL ON EARTH, PEOPLE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH (BEHEADINGS) FOR THEIR BELIEF IN GOD (JESUS) OR THE BIBLE.
THE WEEK OF DANIEL 9:27 WE KNOW ITS 7 YRS
Heres the scripture 1 week = 7 yrs Genesis 29:27-29
27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.
DANIEL 9:26-27
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come (ROMANS IN AD 70) shall destroy the city and the sanctuary;(ROMANS DESTROYED THE 2ND TEMPLE) and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he( EU ROMAN, JEWISH DICTATOR) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:( 7 YEARS) and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease,( 3 1/2 YRS) and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
We shall have World Government, whether or not we like it. The only question is whether World Government will be achieved by conquest or consent.James Paul Warburg appearing before the Senate on 7th February 1950
Like a famous WWII Belgian General,Paul Henry Spock said in 1957:We need no commission, we have already too many. What we need is a man who is great enough to be able to keep all the people in subjection to himself and to lift us out of the economic bog into which we threaten to sink. Send us such a man. Be he a god or a devil, we will accept him.And today, sadly, the world is indeed ready for such a man.

EPHESIANS 6:10-13
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,(DEMONIC ANGELS IN HIGH PLACES) against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.(SPIRTIUAL DEMONIC PERSONS)
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
LUKE 4:5-7(BECAUSE SATAN OFFERS WORLD POWER, WORLD ORDERERS HAVE ACCEPTED SATANS GIFT)
5 And the devil, taking him (JESUS) up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
DANIEL 7:23-25
23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
DANIEL 12:4,1
4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
REVELATION 13:1-3,7,8,12,16-18
1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
16 And he causeth all,(WORLD SOCIALISM) both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
REVELATION 17:3,7,9-10,12,18
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

BUSTING THE BILDERBERG BLACKOUT Why the Blackout on Bilderberg?
The following is a transcript of a letter sent to The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times regarding their participation and their unethical refusal to cover Bilderberg. Gentlemen (and I use the term loosely): It is mindboggling that, for years, you would attend secret Bilderberg meetings, gain foreknowledge of Earth-shaking events to come, and keep your crooked promise to report nothing. This is journalistic prostitution, plain and simple.I, too, have attended Bilderberg for many years, but they are less gracious tome. But you will learn from the enclosed AMERICAN FREE PRESS that, as usual, Bilderberg has plans that are big and bad.Covering Bilderberg has made it possible to write advance stories on wars, the dumping of Margaret Thatcher as prime minister of Britain, fluctuations in the value of the dollar and oil prices, among others. Lady Thatcher later acknowledged, in a private conversation with me, that she had been denounced and thrown out of office by Bilderberg. She said it was a tribute to be denounced by Bilderberg and spoke harshly of international groups that try to impose their will on sovereign nations. Britain still uses the pound, not the euro.Jimmy Lee Hoagland, associate editor of The Washington Post, always attends Bilderberg, holding Chairman Donald Graham’s hand. You were both there when Bilderberg met in Chantilly, Va. (near Washington) in 2002. Your newspaper was reporting, repeatedly, that the U.S. invasion of Iraq would come in the late summer or early fall of that year. But you both heard Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld say the invasion would not come until the next year—2003.Yet, you let your newspaper be wrong to protect Bilderberg. Either of you could have told the staff to stop reporting war in 2002 without mentioning Bilderberg, but you were too protective.
Things like this happen every year, but not just in the spring. In March 1985, The Washington Post carried a brief paragraph in the social section about a meeting David Rockefeller and Henry Kissinger had in Moscow with Mikhail Gorbachev, head of the then-Soviet Union. It described the meeting as productive, and that was all. But a check of the Soviet-controlled media revealed enormous developments.Bilderberg accidentally ended the Cold War: Rockefeller and Kissinger told Gorbachev they could arrange U.S. financial aid to its puppet state of Poland only if Americans could observe a free election. It was agreed that one-third of seats in the national assembly would be reserved for the entrenched Communist Party and another third for the Peasant Party, which had voted in lock-step with the Communists for 40 years.
One-third would be freely elected. Could you imagine how Americans would react if only one-third of Congress was freely elected? But when it came time to form a government, young turks in the Peasant Party seized the moment and voted with the freely elected legislators to throw the Communists out of power and elect a young electrician as head of state. The fires of freedom spread throughout the Captive Nations, and the Iron Curtain came tumbling down. The result was good but unintended by Bilderberg. Wars are a source of big bucks to international financiers. Sorry you guys missed the story.Yours with contempt,Jim Tucker,Editor.AMERICAN FREE PRESS
BILDERBERG MEETS IN SPAIN Global Cabal Weakened, But Won’t Give Up NWO Dream By James P. Tucker, Jr.
Bilderberg boys were so depressed as they gathered at the Dolce luxury hotel in Sitges, Spain June 3 that many important people are not showing up, because they always find out and we get into trouble at home, said one, echoing the sentiments of all.Still, they hope to inflict much evil on the world. An unprecedented but fruitless effort to hide the Bilderberg meeting this year was conducting the Group of 20 (G-20) economic meeting in Busan, South Korea.Always before, like clockwork, the Bilderberg group would meet on the same continent as the G-20: Europe or North America. This, too, proved futile. Bilderberg was greeted with a hostile press and public.Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner was conspicuous at G-20. The meeting ended Saturday. But, with a 12-hour time difference, Korea’s Saturday ended in plenty of time for Geithner to join his Bilderberg buddies.Bilderberg had bad news out of the G-20 meeting. Not only was G-20 pessimistic about survival of the euro, it gave up on establishing a global bank tax following complaints from Canada, Australia, Brazil and India. Both the international currency and international bank tax are crucial to Bilderberg’s plan to establish a world Treasury Department. The London Times had an advance story headlined Secretive Bilderberg Club Ready for Protests. It said David Rockefeller and colleagues would be graced with the presence of Spanish Prime Minister Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who will give a welcoming address. It is routine for the head of state of the host country—except in the U.S.—to give a 30-minute welcoming address, then be required to leave. The smallest, purely local newspaper is invited to cover this event, but no questions. The story, designed to reassure locals that nothing ominous is taking place behind the armada of armed guards, is approved by Bilderberg before publication.
Also attending from Spain were Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos and former Economy Minister Pedro Solbes. The Guardian of London carried a commentary by Charlie Skelton, who humorously observed that Spain was hoping the arrival of Bilderberg will not have the same effect suffered by the last country to host Bilderberg. In 2009, Bilderberg met in Greece, and within a year the country was bankrupt and people were rioting in the streets.
BOMB IRAN
Sadly, Bilderberg remains committed to a U.S. attack on Iran on Israel’s behalf. But the cruel and clumsy attack on a flotilla bringing food and medicine to the besieged Palestinians in the Gaza Strip backfired, too (for more on this and subsequent attacks, see page 4). World outrage, including from many Jews, left Bilderberg gasping. There is division within Bilderberg; most Americans want war, but some Europeans oppose air strikes. Many argue that Iran is not making nuclear weapons, while, they point out, Israel has had nuclear weapons since 1962. This was made public by the late Bilderberg luminary, George Ball, who was No. 2 man in the State Department under both presidents John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.Iran is building nuclear weapons, which poses a threat, not only to Israel, but also to all of Europe and, potentially, to the United States, said an American, but not to universal agreement. We’re not sure of that, a European countered. And you have a lot more dead boys than we do.Israel may have to conduct a preemptive strike to protect itself from a nuclear Iran, said an American, believed by the inside source to be Keith Alexander, director of the National Security Agency, but not positively identified.
The term preemptive strike was invented by Israel as a synonym for waging aggressive war in 1968,the European countered.Israel bombed Egypt in a surprise attack, wiping out the Egyptian air force on the ground. Israel was under no threat at all.The American walked away, shaking his head with a where have I failed? look.
GLOBAL WARMING
They are still trying to exploit the myth of global warming to establish a world Department of Energy although one mourned that we are about whipped on climate change.Leading climatologists say fluctuations in Earth’s temperature are natural.Global warming claims are a fraud, they say.
A newly leaked internal document outlines how Spain’s green economy initiatives have been a financial disaster, reported David E. Robinson, in his newsletter Brunswick Bits Abound. The report suggests that the real rate of job losses as a result of green policies is in fact worse than the 2.2 jobs lost for every one gained and that the green economy must be abandoned if the country is to save itself from economic ruin,Robinson stated.Despite setbacks, Bilderberg is still trying to exploit the global financial crisis to create a world Treasury Department and a global currency.
These would be major steps in Bilderberg’s ultimate goal of creating a one-world government. This has been a harsh struggle for the global plutocracy—in the 1990s Bilderberg was confident of achieving world government by the year 2000. A decade later, the goal remains elusive.
AFP editor James P. Tucker Jr. is a veteran journalist who spent many years as a member of the elite media in Washington. Since 1975 he has won widespread recognition, here and abroad, for his pursuit of on-the-scene stories reporting the intrigues of global power blocs such as the Bilderberg Group. Tucker is the author of Jim Tucker’s Bilderberg Diary: One Man’s 25-Year Battle to Shine the Light on the World Shadow Government. Bound in an attractive full-color softcover and containing 272 pages—loaded with photos, many never published before—the book recounts Tucker’s experiences over the last quarter century at Bilderberg meetings. $25 from AFP. ISAIAH 13:6-9 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.
HALF OF EARTHS POPULATION DIE DURING THE 7 YR TRIBULATION.(THESE VERSES ARE JUDGEMENT SCRIPTURES NOT RAPTURE SCRIPTURES)
LUKE 17:34-37
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds due to the nuke killings).

JUDE 14-16
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.(KING JESUS-GOD)
16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men's persons in admiration because of advantage.(NEW WORLD ORDER BANKERS,ENVIROMENTAL EARTH WORSHIPPING NUTCASES)
REVELATION 19:15-21
15 And out of his (JESUS) mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.(KING JESUS THE GOD OF ISRAEL AND THE WHOLE EARTH)(THE ONLY WAY TO SALVATION)(NO OTHER)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
20 And the beast (EU NEW WORLD ORDER DICTATATOR BANKER) was taken, and with him the false prophet (CHRISTIAN FAKER (DECIEVER) IN SHEEPS CLOTHING) that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21 And the remnant (OF GOD,ISRAEL HATERS) were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse,(JESUS) which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.(FLESH FROM GODLESS NUTCASES FOR ANIMALS TO FEAST ON)

Damage done mainly by white middle class punks who are known as anarchists
Who was responsible for the violence in Toronto? By Arthur Weinreb Monday, June 28, 2010 CANADA FREE PRESS
It could have been worse. Major damage arising from the protests against the G8 and G20 only occurred during Saturday’s protests and marches. While there were many more arrests made on Sunday, no major damage to the city occurred on that day. On Saturday, four police cruisers were torched. Windows of banks and of course Starbucks were smashed along with that of other businesses including mom and pop stores. Bottles and other objects were thrown at police by the mainly white middle class punks who are known as anarchists. One fact that is not in dispute is that there was a large police contingent; made up of police officers from all over Canada, on both days of the protests. So there must be a reason why major damage was done on Saturday but not on Sunday.Real responsibility lies with the Ontario Federation of Labour and other groups So who was responsible for all the violence? Well, the anarchists themselves, many of whom came from far away with the sole purpose of damaging private and public property. These pampered children rail against, among other things big oil that surely must be happy at all the gas they used to get here. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the police will certainly be blamed for the massive police presence that the left will argue provoked the peaceful protesters into taking action. But the real responsibility lies with the Ontario Federation of Labour and other groups who organized their family-friendly demonstration in which approximately 10,000 people took part in.
It’s all about rights and nothing about responsibilities Yes, they had a right to demonstrate. Every time Toronto Mayor David Miller and his politically correct police chief opened their mouths, their comments were always prefaced with the phrase that people have the right to demonstrate. The organizers of Saturday’s protests clearly illustrate what’s wrong with society today; it’s all about rights and nothing about responsibilities. From what had transpired during past G8 and G20 summits, these organizers knew or ought to have known that anarchists and other groups that were bent on destruction would use the peaceful march as a cover to remain hidden until they felt the time was right to wreak havoc and cause wanton destruction. These labour unions hold demonstrations, marches and protests all the time and they had a right to protest but they didn’t have to protest on that particular day. The truth is that even though they intended to march and demonstrate peacefully, the only rational conclusion that can be drawn is that they really didn’t mind facilitating the anarchists’ objectives of doing significant property damage in downtown Toronto. The organizers and their supporters that included families with little children acted as useful idiots for all those who were intent on causing as much damage as possible. The organizers of the peaceful demonstration justified their holding the march by saying that they had a message that they wanted to deliver to the G20 leaders. What a croc! Whatever their message was, the leaders were safely tucked away, unable to hear it. The leaders will only know what they picked up from the media. The media. Sticking to the principle of if it bleeds, it leads, most of the media focused on the damage, especially the torched police cars. If the focus was not the damage or the many standoffs between the police and protesters, it was to tell the stories of the poor little dears who were arrested. We learned from some of the media that they were all innocent. INN O CENT! And in case anyone who is reading this spent the entire weekend watching CP24, there actually was a summit held in Toronto where world leaders discussed issues like the economy. They were on the other side of the fence.
The organizers of the demonstration knew or ought to have known that their message had virtually no chance of getting out this past weekend, with the anarchists in town.On Sunday, when there was no large peaceful demonstration for the little punks to hide in there was virtually no damage done. Those who organized and took part in the organized march on Saturday facilitated the damage that was done to the city; without them it would not have occurred. But they will never acknowledge that fact.
Yes, they had a right to demonstrate; but they took no responsibility aiding and sheltering those who caused the damage. It’s too much to expect the peaceful people to take any responsibility. They could have held a massive rally and marched on any other weekend and had a better chance of getting their message out. But that’s just too much to ask.
G20 Protesters Being Abducted, Bundled Into Unmarked Vans In Toronto
Steve Watson Prisonplanet.com June 29th, 2010
In a repeat of scenes witnessed at last year’s G20 meeting in Pittsburgh, protesters in Toronto are being abducted off the streets and bundled into unmarked vehicles which are driven away at high speeds.Several videos show police tackling protesters to the ground, cuffing them and then handing them over to unidentified casually dressed individuals who shove the demonstrators into unmarked black vans.Police then randomly grab further protesters as more of the unmarked vehicles arrive on the scene.

Police Lied About Law Demanding G20 Protesters Show ID - Investigation into direct violation of Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms should follow

The Ontario government has declared that it never passed any secret emergency law allowing police to demand ID from protesters on threat of arrest in the vicinity of the G20 meeting in Toronto last weekend.Last week multiple reports suggested that police had been given unprecedented powers to to arrest anyone near the security zone who refused to identify themselves or agree to a police search.
The Toronto Star reported:The regulation was made under Ontario’s Public Works Protection Act and was not debated in the Legislature. According to a provincial spokesperson, the cabinet action came in response to an extraordinary request by Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair, who wanted additional policing powers shortly after learning the G20 was coming to Toronto. The Globe and Mail reported that there were no limits to police powers during the summit, and no clear legal precedent specifying what they could and could not do.Throughout the weekend reports flooded in of protesters and even citizens of Toronto who were merely passers by being stopped outside the security perimeter and questioned by police under the amended law. However, the truth has now emerged that no such amendment to the law was ever made. The Ontario government did not pass a secret law that gave police additional power to arrest people during the G20 summit in Toronto, said Laura Blondeau, a spokeswoman for Community Safety Minister Rick Bartolucci.Blondeau said that the rules only applied to a limited area within the security perimeter, not up to five meters outside it or beyond, as earlier reports quoting Police Chief Bill Blair had suggested.Canadian Press reports: Asked Tuesday if there actually was a five-metre rule given the ministry’s clarification, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair smiled and said, No, but I was trying to keep the criminals out.As the Canadian Press article points out, police did cite the Public Works Protection Act when detaining and searching people outside the security fences. Furthermore, Neither the province nor police set the record straight. In fact, both made comments about the necessity of such powers in media interviews all weekend.Yesterday, the Chief said he was originally under the impression that the five-metre rule applied to an area outside the perimeter but once he was told otherwise, a directive was issued to officers on the appropriate application of that regulation.Asked if failing to clarify the five-metre rule misled the public, he said: No, I never spoke publicly again about that regulation.
As The National Post points out:So he informed the entire city of something that wasn’t true, and, despite the ensuing uproar he kept his mouth shut. And that’s not misleading? Wrong, chief.Though Blondeau, the government spokesperson has said that no arrests were made under the phantom law, there is clear evidence showing that this is not true.As we highlight in our feature article today, British activist Charlie Veitch was arrested last Thursday, outside the security perimeter, for failing to provide identification which, he was told, was a crime under The Public Works Act.Veitch appeared on the Alex Jones show after he was eventually released from hours of captivity at the giant movie studio turned temporary prison during the G20 summit.Veitch even received a form documenting his arrest that said he had been detained under the phantom amendment to the law.Surely realizing that the truth would emerge, authorities re-arrested Veitch yesterday on the charge of impersonating a police officer – a weak accusation that stems from deadpan comments Veitch made in his exchange with his original arresting officer when he joked that he was a British police provocateur, in Toronto to instigate trouble so that a harsh crackdown by Canadian security would be justified. As we also highlighted in a previous article, plain clothes security were witnessed literally screeching up in black vans and abducting protesters outside the security perimeter, while kettling those who remained and eventually firing rubber bullets and tear gas at them.Below is another video of this incident which shows the makeshift movie studio prison in the background. The building is five kilometres away from the security perimeter:The long and short of this is that the Chief of police in Toronto knowingly misled his officers about a secret law granting them unfettered powers of arrest, which those officers then put into force aggressively, setting a new record for the largest mass arrest in Canadian history.Further reports of the extreme threats and abuses those arrested, including journalists, were subjected to by police have also exacerbated the situation.Despite multiple opportunities to set the record straight, Chief Blair opted to publicly state that such powers were necessary and allowed officers all over the city to detain and arrest people under laws that never existed.Given that this activity is in violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and tramples over the right to peacefully protest, there needs to be an immediate investigation into the matter, and Chief Blair should face the consequences that go with such a violation.
Police admit no five-metre rule existed on security fence law.GLOBE AND MAIL JUNE 29,10

Toronto — The Canadian Press Published on Tuesday, Jun. 29, 2010 11:33AM EDT
The expiration of the five-metre rule that had Toronto residents fearing arrest if they strayed too close to the G20 security perimeter came with a startling revelation Tuesday – it never existed. The rule seemed straightforward when the news broke last Friday that the Ontario government made a regulatory change to a little-known act in secret.Come within five metres of the summit security fence and you’d better have some identification or risk arrest. The temporary regulation, which was passed in secret June 2, did decree that all streets and sidewalks inside the fence were a public work until 11:59 p.m. Monday. Under the Ontario Public Works Protection Act, that allowed police to search people trying to enter that area. But there was no power to search people coming within five metres of the fence, said ministry spokeswoman Laura Blondeau. The area designated by the regulation as a public work does not extend outside the boundary of the fence, Ms. Blondeau said.
Asked Tuesday if there actually was a five-metre rule given the ministry’s clarification, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair smiled and said, No, but I was trying to keep the criminals out.The confusion, it seems, came from the wording of the regulation. The phrase five metres does appear, but it references land well within the fence that is neither a sidewalk nor street – land near a parking lot and land behind the Rogers Centre. A driveway below ground level in front of Union Station was also designated a public work.Still, the misconception that any zone within five metres of the imposing steel fence – which wound its way through the downtown core – was included persisted throughout the weekend despite extensive media coverage Friday.Neither the province nor police set the record straight. In fact, both made comments about the necessity of such powers. The Canadian Civil Liberties Association demanded an apology from the Ontario government. The lack of transparency surrounding the designation of the security perimeter as a public work led to misunderstanding as to the scope of the search and seizure powers during the summit, said association spokeswoman Nathalie Des Rosiers. In our view it was an inappropriate use of search and seizure powers. There were complaints about police engaging in arbitrary searches throughout the weekend in different areas of Toronto, even far away from the G20 security zone. The New Democrats said Premier Dalton McGuinty and his community safety minister allowed people to misinterpret the law until the G20 was over and the regulation itself had expired.Mr. McGuinty’s solicitor general misled the people of Ontario and the police into believing that police had the authority to demand identification and to search people without warrants, said NDP justice critic Peter Kormos.
Toronto lawyer Rob Kittredge, an avid photographer who works near the G20 site, said Tuesday he was handcuffed and searched by police last week for taking pictures of the security fence, from the outside.Mr. Kittredge said he knows his rights – or at least thought he did in this case – and always politely refuses to comply with police demands for identification if he feels they have no grounds. They told me that I did in fact have an obligation to answer their questions and provide identification and cited the Public Works Protection Act,said Mr. Kittredge. They explained they had the right to ask me the purpose of my being there, they had the right to ask my name and demand identification and my address.Mr. McGuinty still hasn’t explained why cabinet passed the regulation change in secret, and then kept it secret. They knew that this was going to be a live issue and that people were going to be getting legal advice and that chances are if they didn’t publicize it, the legal advice would be wrong and misleading, said lawyer Jonathan Dawe, who has argued cases before the Supreme Court of Canada on the scope of police powers. As a matter of basic fairness people should be told in advance what they’re doing that constitutes an offence.Opposition Leader Tim Hudak said Mr. McGuinty should have been more honest about the regulation change.I think if this was known to the general public ahead of time the vast majority of Ontario residents would have understood the need, said Mr. Hudak.
Dollar should be replaced as international standard, U.N. report saysBy Gabriella Casanas and Mick B. Krever, CNN June 29, 2010 7:14 p.m. EDT
Under proposed system, countries would not have to buy up foreign currencies, as China has done with U.S. dollar.dollar has proved not to be a stable store of value, report says.Dollar under increasing scrutiny since U.S. entered recession U.N. report supports proposal to create standardized international system Under proposal, countries would no long have to buy up foreign currencies
New York (CNN) -- The dollar is an unreliable international currency and should be replaced by a more stable system, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs said in a report released Tuesday. The use of the dollar for international trade came under increasing scrutiny when the U.S. economy fell into recession. The dollar has proved not to be a stable store of value, which is a requisite for a stable reserve currency, the report said. Many countries, in Asia in particular, have been building up massive dollar reserves. As a result, those countries' currencies have become undervalued, decreasing their ability to import goods from abroad. The World Economic and Social Survey 2010 is supporting a proposal long advocated by the International Monetary Fund to create a standardized international system for liquidity transfer.Under this proposed system, countries would no longer have to buy up foreign currencies, as China has long done with the U.S. dollar. Rather, they would accumulate the right to claim foreign currencies, or special drawing rights, or SDRs, rather than the currencies themselves. The special drawing rights would be backed by a basket of currencies, which would make them less susceptible to volatility in any one currency. And because the value of a special drawing right is defined by the IMF, changes in the value of any one currency could be adjusted for.
These initiatives, supported by U.N. Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, are meant to help sustain the international trade and financial systems that will allow less-developed countries to participate and integrate into the global economy. In addition to the proposed reforms regarding international currency, the survey also offered guidance on increasing social well-being.The survey said that the number of the poor in the world living on less than $1.25 a day decreased from 1.8 billion in 1990 to 1.4 billion in 2005, but nearly all of this reduction was concentrated in China. The number of poor increased in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia over the same period. Income inequalities within countries have increased since the early 1980s with few exceptions, the report said. There's too little aid being provided, it's too fragmented, and it's too volatile in terms of the resources that are flowing to countries, said Rob Vos, director of the development policy and analysis division of the U.N.The survey projects that by 2050 the population will be at 9 billion, with 85 percent living in developing countries, and the global economy will have to sustain a system that will allow for decent living.By 2050, one of every four people living in a developed country and one in every seven in countries now being developed will be over age 65. The fast ageing of the population will call for proper pension and health care systems that are sustainable.
Hypocrite Toronto Police Demands Resignation of Labour President over Agent-Provocateur Comments Jurriaan Maessen Infowars.com June 28, 2010
http://www.infowars.com/hypocrite-toronto-police-demands-resignation-of-labour-president-over-agent-provocateur-comments/
On June 17, the Star reported that the Toronto police union is calling for Ontario Federation of Labour president Sid Ryan to resign after he expressed concern over the possibility of the police using agent-provocateurs at the G20-meeting.In 2007 in Ottawa cops posed as anarchists.Ryan, who planned to join the protests, stated that the city is rapidly turning into a police-state, stating that: (…) We got these armed forces in our city, the likes of which I’ve never seen.I am very concerned, Ryan continued, that there could be political pressure from the federal Conservative government to use police to provoke a situation that will lead to arrests — purely to justify the enormous security costs of the G20 summit. And frankly, that should be a concern for the police union as well. The president of the Toronto Police Association, Mike McCormack, responded in a defensive reflex, stating that It’s a totally irresponsible, inflammatory and idiotic thing to say for someone in his position. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not quite. There have been numerous well-documented cases where provocateurs were caught trying to incite violence at key globalist gatherings. In other words: miniature false flag operations conducted by the (military) police with the specific aim of radicalizing the protests and equating anyone resisting these key globalist meetings with trigger-happy idiots. The truth notwithstanding, the Minister of State of Foreign Affairs Peter Kent joined McCormack in his hypocritical reaction, demanding Ryan’s resignation. Watch fragment:
The history of provocateurs igniting false flag-riots is extensive. Time and time again intelligence agencies have been caught deploying agent-provocateurs in the hope of escalating the protests. Lucky for us, many of the attempts by these intelligence agencies have failed miserably. In 2007 agent-provocateurs were identified by real protestors. The silly sods had forgotten to take off their boots – which happened to be identical to those worn by the present riot police. Watch fragment:During the G20 global governance rally in Pittsburgh in September of 2009, provocateurs were spotted on several occasions mixing with the real protestors and attempting to incite violence. Watch:The phenomenon agent-provocateur is also haunting the Tea Party meetings, where they are almost certainly getting ready to radicalize the meetings. We know using such plants is the favorite device of the new world order and is a clear signal that they will stop at nothing to achieve their objectives. Despite the hypocritical denial of McCormack and Kent, even the globalists themselves do not deny the use of agent-provocateurs at globalization summits. In a 2003 UNESCO discussion paper heralding the emergence of world government entitled Not globaphiles or globaphobes but globacritics the author acknowledges that anti-globalization protest groups have been infiltrated by certain central government political intelligence elements seeking to radicalize the protests. The document was composed by Jaime Preciado Coronado: a professor and researcher at the Department of Iberian and Latin American Studies at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. In the paper, two different forms of opposition are being distinguished. The first, total repudiation and resistance to globalization (globaphobes), the second: grassroots alternatives to counter the deleterious effects of such globalization(globacritics). After sketching the classical false distinction between neo-liberal globalization and social globalization, Coronado turns to the issue of anti-globalization protests: The use of violence is a further divisive issue, since some of those opposing globalization, at least under its current terms, support peaceful forms of protest that nevertheless serve to apply pressure for winning negotiations, while others favor openly confronting the forces of repression. The latter seek to teach lessons through confrontation and to amass opposition in order to radicalize the struggle.
We cannot conceal the fact that they have been infiltrated by certain central government political intelligence elements, Coronado continues, although this does not justify the repressive authoritarian measures they (these intelligence elements) have used in a bid to thwart the respective protests. Here Coronado acknowledges that government operatives intentionally radicalize anti-globalization protests by either provoking radical elements such as anarchists to use violence or plant agent-provocateurs to do the same. This further underlines the fact that governments within the new world order make regular use of agent-provocateurs to radicalize the opposition.

Peaceful Protesters Attacked, Arrested While Cop-Car Arsonists Left Alone
Paul Joseph Watson Prison Planet.com Monday, June 28, 2010
An eyebrow-raising photograph of one of the anarchists who set fire to a Toronto police car during anti-G20 protests this past weekend shows him wearing Nike clothing, a potential indication that provocateurs dressed up as black-bloc anarchists were again employed by authorities to cause mayhem in order to justify a brutal police crackdown and crush free speech, as peaceful protesters were attacked and arrested while the anarchists who torched the cars were left alone. The picture shows the two culprits who set fire to the police car congratulating each other and looking remarkably relaxed about potentially being caught by police considering what they had just done. One of the men is wearing Nike pants – the distinctive logo of the company can be seen above his left pocket. Why would a hardcore anarchists so dedicated to his cause that he is willing to torch a police car be wearing clothing made by a company that anarchists universally abhor, and one that has routinely been targeted by anarchists for well over a decade? The authorities certainly wasted no time in responding to the mayhem the anarchists helpfully generated for them with brute force. After anarchists torched four police cars, reporters and other peaceful protesters were targeted with rubber bullets, with another Guardian journalist being repeatedly punched and elbowed by cops.A newspaper photographer was shot with a plastic bullet in the backside, while another had an officer point a gun in his face despite identifying himself as a member of the media, reported the Canadian Press news agency.Journalist Steve Paikin of public broadcaster TV Ontario described the brutal beating of the Guardian reporter. As I was escorted away from the demonstration, I saw two officers hold a journalist. The journalist identified himself as working for the Guardian. He talked too much and pissed the police off. Two officers held him a third punched him in the stomach. Totally unnecessary. The man collapsed. Then the third officer drove his elbow into the man’s back. No cameras recorded the assault. And it was an assault.
Paikin noted how middle class, peaceful demonstrators were being attacked and arrested by police, while the anarchists who provided them with the pretext to do so were nowhere to be seen. The police just started arresting people. I stress, this was a peaceful, middle class, diverse crowd. No anarchists. Literally more than 100 officers with guns pointing at the crowd. Rubber bullets and smoke bombs ready to be fired. Rubber bullets fired.I have lived in Toronto for 32 years. Have never seen a day like this. Shame on the vandals and shame on those that ordered peaceful protesters attacked and arrested, added Paikin.Could the two men in the picture be cops dressed up as anarchists? It wouldn’t be the first time that cops had posed as protesters and deliberately staged violence in an effort to justify a heavy-handed police response. We have documented numerous different occasions where the black bloc anarchists were completely infiltrated by the authorities to provide a pretext for a police state crackdown.A recent example occurred at last year’s Pittsburgh G20 summit, where footage showed three burly older men who look completely out of place with black bandanas over their face walking alongside young protesters during a march against police brutality in a You Tube clip entitled G20 Epic Undercover Police Fail. The clip would be hilarious if it was not so disturbing. Protesters walking behind what are obviously badly disguised cops claim they broke cameras and acted aggressively towards genuine protesters, as well as carrying gas canisters. During a peaceful demonstration on the same night, riot cops savagely attacked protesters with batons and rubber bullets while also assaulting and arresting students who weren’t even part of the demonstration.Following the SPP protests in Canada three years ago, Quebec provincial authorities were forced to admit that three rock-wielding black mask-wearing anarchists were in fact police infiltrators used to gather information on protesters.
Video shows two of the provocateurs pick up rocks and try to incite violence before they are outed as cops by legitimate demonstrators. The two thugs then tried to slip behind police lines before their fellow officers were forced to stage their arrest. Again, the fact that they were cops in disguise was later admitted by authorities. Interestingly as it applies to the Toronto anarchists, one of the primary reasons the men initially aroused suspicion was the fact that they were wearing the same distinctive boots as the uniformed riot police.Watch the video.Alex Jones’ film Police State 2: The Takeover exposed how the black bloc anarchists were completely infiltrated and provocateured by the authorities during the violent 1999 WTO protests in Seattle. The authorities declared a state of emergency, imposed curfews and resorted to nothing short of police state tactics in response to a small minority of hostile black bloc hooligans. Police allowed the black bloc to run riot in downtown Seattle while they concentrated on preventing the movement of peaceful protestors. The film presents clear evidence that the black bloc anarchist group was actually controlled by the state and used to demonize peaceful protesters. Watch the video below. At the WTO protests in Genoa 2001 a protestor was killed after being shot in the head and run over twice by a police vehicle. The Italian Carabiniere also later beat on peaceful protestors as they slept, and even tortured some, at the Diaz School. It later emerged that the police fabricated evidence against the protesters, claiming they were anarchist rioters, to justify their actions. Some Carabiniere officials have since come forward to say they knew of infiltration of the so called black bloc anarchists, and that fellow officers acted as agent provocateurs.
At the Free Trade Area of Americas protests in Miami in late November 2003, more provocateuring was evident. The United Steelworkers of America calling for a congressional investigation, stated that the police intentionally caused violence and arrested and charged hundreds of peaceful protestors. The USWA suggested that billions of dollars supposedly slated for Iraq reconstruction funds are actually being used to subsidize homeland repression in America. The leadership of the black bloc has been completely usurped by the authorities and anyone who still professes to be a member of the group is either supremely naive or completely stupid. To dress up like terrorists, all in black with ski masks and bandanas (like the police) immediately sends out a negative message to the watching public and demonizes legitimate protesters, as does pointlessly setting fire to a police car. Engaging in such acts only bolsters the rational and reasonable facade of groups like G20 that the anarchists supposedly want to discredit.Such incidents provide the perfect justification for the authorities to shut down the free speech of legitimate demonstrators who actually have something of substance to say and a means of communicating their message, people like Charlie Veitch, who was arrested, tortured and caged by Toronto police thugs after he used a bullhorn.

TORONTO (Reuters) – The head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, said on Sunday the G20 nations' target to halve their deficits by 2013 was not as important as the measures they implement to reduce debt.Strauss-Kahn, the IMF managing director, said while setting the common goal to slash government debt was an interesting idea, it was oversimplifying the problem.Talking about halving the deficits is oversimplifying the problem because it differs from one country to another, he told a news conference at the end of a two-day Group of 20 summit of rich and emerging economies.I am more interested in the fact that countries do implement the right measures.Strauss-Kahn said he felt more upbeat after the meeting about the willingness of G20 members to coordinate their policies to ensure the global recovery does not stall. He said it did not matter that countries moved at different speeds to rein in their fiscal stimulus. It could be a catastrophe if all the countries were tightening, it could totally destroy the recovery, he added.
Strauss-Kahn said the G20 did not raise the possibility of a double-dip recession and the IMF was not forecasting a relapse.Strauss-Kahn said the fact that China was not named in the G20 communique at the end of the summit for its foreign exchange policy was not that important. What is important, is that the move by the Chinese shows that they want to take part in this collective action to rebalance the global economy, he added. PM hails G20 deficit reduction targets-Fresh Toronto protests trigger summit perimeter lockdown Last Updated: Sunday, June 27, 2010 | 10:52 PM ET CBC News
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has hailed an agreement among G20 leaders at the close of their Toronto summit on a Canadian-led plan for industrialized nations to slash their deficits in half within three years.Speaking with reporters on Sunday after the G20 released its final summit communiqué, Harper said he expects Canada will halve its deficit and put its debt load on a stable or downward path by next year.In the communiqué, the G20 leaders gave each other plenty of leeway in meeting the deficit reduction targets and warned that too drastic cuts could spark another global economic meltdown similar to last year's crisis.U.S. President Barack Obama, left, talks with Prime Minister Stephen Harper during the opening plenary session of the G20 summit in Toronto on Sunday. (Jason Reed/Associated Press)Harper said the leaders came to Toronto amid growing concerns of swelling deficits, but recognized the need for fiscal consolidation is not an end in itself. The G20 still has a lot to do to fully entrench the global recovery, but these are important steps forward and, as you know, they are steps that Canada was seeking,he said. While he insisted the G20 leaders have a common goal of strengthening the world's economy, the prime minister acknowledged that everything is voluntary in the statement.Speaking shortly after Harper, U.S. President Barack Obama committed his country to the G20's goal of cutting the country's deficit in half by 2013, despite previously warning other leaders that turning off the stimulus taps too quickly could choke off the fragile economic recovery. We have to make sure we're not rushing too quickly to the exits and all at the same time,Obama said. Our fiscal health tomorrow will rest in no small measure on our ability to create jobs today. The president also said that all G20 leaders agreed to build a global framework for banking regulations and want it to ready by the next G20 meeting in the South Korean capital Seoul in November.
Security costs defended amid fresh standoffs
(Mike Segar/Reuters)As leaders concluded their talks safely behind the barricades of the security zone in Toronto's downtown core, police and anti-G20 protesters engaged in tense — and at times violent — confrontations and standoffs in several parts of Toronto for a second day.Police in full riot gear continued to arrest several protesters well into Sunday evening at the major intersection of Queen Street and Spadina Avenue, just blocks away from the summit site.During his closing remarks, Harper deplored the actions of a few thugs, saying the weekend's violence goes a long way to explain why security costs are so high at this week's dual G8 and G20 gatherings. The Conservative government has faced heavy criticism for the estimated price tag for security at the two summits, which is expected to exceed $1 billion. But Harper defended the need for Canada's hosting the back-to-back summits, saying they are inextricably linked with the country's economic health. As I constantly remind Canadians, there isn't really a Canadian economy anymore; it's a global economy, he said. And, yes, the Canadian economy so to speak is doing better than many other countries. But the general trajectory of the Canadian economy — whether we're on the downhill as we were last year or on the rebound as we are this year — is fundamentally determined by the state of the global economy, and that's what these meetings are all about. But opposition critics condemned the prime minister's handling of the summit agenda, saying he failed to make issues such as climate change a priority.Documents obtained by The Canadian Press show Harper rejected advice from his own officials to take the lead and eliminate tax incentives for the oil patch. Instead, the prime minister opted to reiterate actions taken in the past rather than volunteer any additional gestures.Harper says we must recognize we are in a global economy, yet he undermined progress on global solutions for climate and finance reform, NDP MP Paul Dewar said Sunday on Twitter during Harper's news conference.
Statement allows for tailored policies
The communiqué recognizes that not all countries are in the same position, which means the policies could be tailored to each country's circumstances. The G20 has given greater latitude to Japan to repay its deficit and debt.Serious challenges remain, the leaders said in the closing statement released as Harper spoke Sunday.
While growth is returning, the recovery is uneven and fragile, unemployment in many countries remains at unacceptable levels, and the social impact of the crisis is still widely felt.U.K. PM: tightening process needs to start now
Some European countries, including Britain, are more concerned with avoiding a financial crisis brought on by too much government spending. Those countries cited the trouble facing Greece earlier this year, when it had to be bailed out because it was close to running out of money.Countries with large deficits, the tightening process needs to start now, British Prime Minister David Cameron told reporters in his closing news conference. As anticipated, a proposed bank tax — a measure vehemently opposed by the Canadian government — was not included in the final communiqué.Instead, the G20 statement said countries can decide on their own whether to pursue a financial levy or follow other options. In his remarks ahead of Harper's speech, French President Nicolas Sarkozy took a different view of the final statement's verdict and called on Europe to show the way for the bank tax. It's difficult to have everybody go in the same direction,he said. But at least it has been accepted. With files from The Canadian Press Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/06/27/g20-economics.html##ixzz0s76tROAM
Report: Toronto police rough up journalists, arrest peaceful protesters at G20 Daniel Tencer Raw Story June 27, 2010
Reporters covering the G20 summit in Toronto say they were the target of police violence overnight, as riots blamed on anarchist groups left four police cars burning in the financial district and resulted in the arrests of some 150 people.A newspaper photographer was shot with a plastic bullet in the backside, while another had an officer point a gun in his face despite identifying himself as a member of the media, reported the Canadian Press news agency. The agency did not say if it was its own reporters who were targeted.Previously: Toronto gets secret arrest powers ahead of G20 protests. In a remarkable series of Tweets early Sunday morning, journalist Steve Paikin of public broadcaster TV Ontario said he witnessed police brutality against a reporter and the arrests of peaceful demonstrators.I saw police brutality tonight. It was unnecessary. They asked me to leave the site or they would arrest me. I told them I was doing my job,he Tweeted. And it was an assault.Paikin had been at a demonstration in Toronto’s Esplanade neighborhood, a densely-populated area near the waterfront. He said police moved in on a crowd of peaceful, middle class protesters and began arresting them.
Police on one side screamed at the crowd to leave one way. Then police on the other side said leave the other way. There was no way out,he Tweeted. So the police just started arresting people. I stress, this was a peaceful, middle class, diverse crowd. No anarchists. Literally more than 100 officers with guns pointing at the crowd. Rubber bullets and smoke bombs ready to be fired. Rubber bullets fired.Paikin, a respected journalist who has hosted national election debates in Canada, said he was escorted away by police before he could see how many people were arrested, but it must have been dozens.I have lived in Toronto for 32 years. Have never seen a day like this. Shame on the vandals and shame on those that ordered peaceful protesters attacked and arrested.Earlier in the day, police told media that a small group of Black bloc demonstrators broke off from a protest of 10,000 people and began smashing storefront windows along the city’s trendy Queen Street.
The CBC News Network reported that protesters smashed in the windows of an American Apparel outlet, pulled out the mannequins and spread feces on the floor. The storefronts of McDonald’s and Starbucks locations were also damaged, as were numerous bank branches.Police shut down all public transit in the city center, including subway and streetcar lines. They also shut down a large downtown shopping complex after reports of looting. AFP reported that some 200 people were trapped inside, unable to leave after the mall was put into lockdown.
Toronto gets secret arrest powers ahead of G20 protests By Daniel Tencer
Friday, June 25th, 2010 -- 3:00 pm
TORONTO -- A government changes a law to allow police to arrest people without probable cause. It does so without any legislative debate. Then it keeps the change a virtual secret, until someone is arrested under those new powers. The Soviet Union circa 1950? Nope. Try Canada, June 2010.Civil liberties advocates and political activists are up in arms after it emerged Friday that police in Toronto have been given special powers to arrest anyone near the site of the G20 summit if they fail to identify themselves. What's more, the government of the province of Ontario, which green-lit the new powers, didn't tell anyone about it until after someone was arrested under the new powers.Thirty-one-year-old Dave Vasey was arrested near the G20 perimeter security fence in downtown Toronto Thursday afternoon after refusing to identify himself to a police officer. The officer told me, I am going to have to place you under arrest if you don’t show your identification, and I replied I’m not comfortable with that,Vasey said, as quoted at the Toronto Star. With Vasey's arrest, it emerged that Ontario secretly changed its Public Works Protection Act to allow police officers unprecedented powers of arrest. That law allowed police to arrest people if they fail to identify themselves to a police officer when inside a government building or near a "public works" project. It has now been expanded to include the area around the G20 summit, meaning a significant portion of downtown Toronto.
The Toronto Star reports:The regulation kicked in Monday and will expire June 28, the day after the summit ends. While the new regulation appeared without notice on the province’s e-Laws online database last week, it won’t be officially published in The Ontario Gazette until July 3 — one week after the regulation expires.According to the new regulation, guards appointed under the act can arrest anyone who, in specific areas, comes within five metres of the security zone.Within those areas, police can demand identification from anyone coming within five metres of the fence perimeter and search them. If they refuse, they face arrest. Anyone convicted under the regulation could also face up to two months in jail or a $500 maximum fine.
Toronto Chief of Police Bill Blair, who reportedly requested the arrest powers, denied Friday that it had been done in secret. We haven’t changed the rules, he said, as quoted at the National Post. We have put up a fence. We have told people very very clearly that we will not be allowing the public access into that area. ... Our authority comes primarily comes from common law, but also by the regulation that has been passed by the province of Ontario. But the assertion that the change wasn't secret was immediately challenged by reporters covering the G20 summit.Funny, writes Adam Radwanski at the Globe and Mail,I asked two different spokespeople for the integrated G20 police unit — at least one of whom was from the Toronto force — about the legal justification for the measures being taken around the perimeter. Neither breathed a word about anything about the Public Works Protection Act, let alone any recent cabinet decisions that affected it.It’s just unbelievable you would have this kind of abuse of power where the cabinet can create this offense without having it debated in the legislature,Vasey's lawyer, Howard Morton, told the Star.Activist groups say that keeping the new police powers a secret means they have been giving G20 protesters inaccurate advice about how to deal with police confrontations. Vasey himself refused to show identification to police because he was following the advice laid out by the Toronto Community Mobilization Network, which is organizing some G20 protest activities. This act values public property over the freedom of people and prevents community members from walking freely through the streets without questioning from authorities, the group said on its Web site Friday. We will not be made examples of, but rather, we will publicly denounce oppressive activities of the state and highlight the solidarity in our communities.Vasey is scheduled to appear in court on July 28.
Police arrest more than 400 at Toronto summit By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press Writer - JUNE 27,10 8:20 AM
TORONTO – Police say more than 400 arrests have been made after black-clad demonstrators broke off from a crowd of peaceful protesters at the global economic summit in Toronto, torching four police cruisers and smashing windows.Toronto Police Sgt. Tim Burrows said Sunday a total of 412 people were arrested in Saturday's destruction. The roving band wearing black balaclavas shattered shop windows for blocks, including at police headquarters, then shed some of their black clothes, revealing other garments, and continued to rampage through downtown Toronto.Police used shields, clubs, tear gas and pepper spray to push back the rogue protesters who tried to head south toward the security fence surrounding the Group of 20 summit site.
G20 protests bring violence, arrests Toronto mayor says thugs to blame for attacks Last Updated: Saturday, June 26, 2010 | 9:58 PM ET CBC News
Protesters and police in riot gear continued to clash Saturday evening after massive anti-G20 protest marches through downtown Toronto in which at least three police vehicles were set ablaze, store and bank windows were smashed and much of the area was put under security lockdowns.Toronto police Chief Bill Blair, speaking at a 9:15 p.m. news conference, said 75 arrests were made during the day.Blair also confirmed that tear gas was deployed by authorities for the first time in Toronto. It was used after a warning was given to the public about its impending use.Shortly before 8 p.m., a police vehicle that had been damaged earlier in the day on Queen Street, just east of Spadina, was torched. Police in riot gear descended near the burning wreckage to push people back.Police cruisers were torched earlier at the corner of King and Bay streets in the heart of the financial district, sending plumes of black smoke into the air. At one point, as one vehicle burned, protesters surrounded police officers who were trying to protect the car, CBC reporter Amber Hildebrandt reported on Twitter. The size of the protest crowd was estimated to be as high as 10,000. Witnesses said tear gas had been used in the area around the Ontario legislature at College and University, but police initially denied using any.As the evening wore on, the area around Queen's Park emerged as a major flashpoint in the continuing confrontation between police and protesters. Several hundred police in riot gear — many on horseback — ringed government buildings and lined streets in the area, as well as the nearby park grounds.Police repeatedly moved toward groups of demonstrators to move them back. At one point, many protesters were arrested.

Sign up for CBC news alerts, or follow us on Twitter and Facebook. As soon as they arrest them, they move them off to a temporary holding pen that they have built, the CBC's Bill Gillespie reported. The idea is to neutralize them and get them out of the area.Toronto Mayor David Miller said a small group of thugs were to blame for the violence.People are calling them protesters. That is not fair to the people who came to protest, he said.Police have said there have been only minor injuries. The G20 summit was set to begin later Saturday evening with a working dinner hosted by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. With the violence escalating in the heart of Canada's largest city, the entire area around the summit site at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre — enclosed by concrete barricades and fences — was under a security lockdown.
Transit halted
The area's boundaries include Wellington Street to the north, Lakeshore and Bremner boulevards to the south, Windsor Street and Blue Jays Way to the west and a section of Bay Street to the east.Subway service in downtown Toronto remained suspended, with no service in the loop between Bloor and St. George stations, and no streetcars or bus service.A police car burns after G20 summit protesters set fire to it in downtown Toronto on Saturday. (Chris Young/Canadian Press)GO train service into and out of Union Station has also been stopped. The airspace over downtown Toronto was closed as was the Gardiner Expressway, one of the city's major traffic arteries.
Some hospitals, hotels, businesses and the tourist attraction the Eaton Centre are also under lockdown. In a statement Saturday evening, federal Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said the images of violence are truly shocking to Canadians and he condemned the attacks by radical protesters. We are taking all measures necessary to ensure Canadians, delegates, media and international visitors remain safe, Toews said.As the demonstration started just after 1 p.m. ET at the legislature, the mood was upbeat and peaceful. Protesters danced, clapped and chanted while carrying signs, flags and umbrellas as they first moved from the legislature grounds down one of the city's main thoroughfares, University Avenue. But the mood turned ugly as members of splinter groups broke away in attempts to move toward the summit site. They used a tactic commonly known as the Black Block, in which protesters wearing black hoodies, masks, balaclavas and skateboard helmets engage in violent behaviour.
At one point, protesters smashed windows on both sides of Yonge Street in the normally busy shopping area in the Yonge-Dundas corridor. Witnesses said rioters smashed the information booth of the large Future Shop electronics store. It's a sizable crowd and getting bigger and bigger in some areas, the CBC's Steven D'Souza reported. It doesn't look too dangerous, but it is gathering momentum where I am right now.Why do they come here and make problems and make problems for every store?
— Myung Hwon Yang, store ownerSteven Connor, who works at the Hard Rock Café near the Eaton Centre, said several glass storefronts were smashed, with some protesters using street pylons and road equipment, as some people were inside. No one seemed to be injured, Connor said. There's been a lot of damage in the downtown core, the CBC's Michael Serapio reported.Michael Hyatt, who was at a gym near Yonge and Dundas streets, said the protesters seemed to target a number of U.S.-based chains. It is pretty horrible what they have done to a lot of the stores here. They’ve destroyed the windows at an American Apparel — they destroyed all the windows and pulled out the mannequins and [threw] feces into the store.

It stinks and it is unbelievable. Foot Locker is destroyed. Pizza Pizza is destroyed. They’ve kind of gone up the street and picked at every U.S. vendor they could find. It’s really kind of sad.
Bricks, rocks thrown
On many downtown streets, many store windows were either broken with bricks or rocks, or defaced with graffiti. (Nazim Walji/CBC)It's important for countries to meet, but an island area is better. Why do they come here and make problems and make problems for every store? Myung Hwon Yang told CBC News.In one incident, a man dressed in red was arrested and then dragged screaming into a police van. As it happened, a large crowd gathered, denouncing police and chanting Let him go.Miller said police made thorough preparations ahead of the summit and did a commendable job under difficult circumstances.I'm sure there have been small moments where perhaps there’s some tensions between a crowd and the police, Miller told reporters. In the broad brush, I think we should be very confident in their work.He added that police Chief Bill Blair had been very clear in recent days that authorities would facilitate a lawful, democratic protest, while expressing concern about groups who come here just to perpetrate violence. We've seen that his concern was justified, Miller said.Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/06/26/g20-saturday-protests.html##ixzz0s1Bsgmq5

Wise up to smart meters by Joshua Hart

EDITOR,
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. claims the smart meters that they plan to install in Scotts Valley in July are safe and accurate. However, reports of faulty meters and questions about health impacts continue to surface. The World Health Organization says that electromagnetic radiation is a possible carcinogen. It’s one thing to be able to choose whether to take a risk by installing Wi-Fi or using cell phones voluntarily. It is quite another to force anyone who uses gas and electricity to endure this radiation with no right to opt out. These meters will save the company millions by allowing it to lay off meter readers, most of whom will join the unemployment rolls even as PG&E’s profits soar. It’s no surprise that they would roll out these meters without thorough public outreach and adequate investigation into their safety. The San Francisco County Board of Supervisors just voted to implement a moratorium on the installation of smart meters in the city. It’s time Scotts Valley, and other cities that are at risk of becoming PG&E’s guinea pigs, do the same.Joshua Hart, Scotts Valley.Read more: Press-Banner - Wise up to smart meters.
World summit turning attention to nuclear threats By DARLENE SUPERVILLE and MARTIN CRUTSINGER, Associated Press Writers - JUNE 26,10
HUNTSVILLE, Ontario – After failing to resolve their differences on economic strategy, world leaders are turning their attention to grappling with some of the globe's toughest foreign policy problems.President Barack Obama and other leaders of the Group of Eight major industrial countries were scheduled to open their second day of talks Saturday focused on nuclear standoffs with Iran and North Korea. On Iran, the U.S. and European nations will push other major powers to join them in imposing tough new sanctions on Tehran over its suspect nuclear program, a move that would build on expanded U.N. Security Council measures adopted this month. But China and Russia only reluctantly supported those sanctions and have balked at new unilateral steps against Iran. The foreign policy discussions among the leaders of the G-8 — the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Russia — were taking place after an opening day of talks during which the group failed to resolve a dispute over the proper mix of government spending and deficit reductions needed to keep the global economy on track.Obama made the case that the global economy remained fragile and should not be put at risk by countries moving too rapidly to trim their bulging deficits through spending cuts and tax increases, which can slow economic growth.
But leaders of Britain, Germany, Canada and Japan argued that deficit cuts were needed to reassure nervous investors, given the severe market turmoil experienced in May after the near-default of Greece on its huge debt burden. The G-8 talks were being held in a resort that is a two-hour drive north of Toronto. After they wrap up at midday Saturday, the G-8 leaders were scheduled to travel to Toronto for discussions with the larger Group of 20, which includes not only the wealthy nations but major emerging powers such as China, Brazil and India. The G-20 leaders' summit, launched in response to the global financial crisis in the fall of 2008, has now replaced the G-8 as the world's premier forum for discussing and coordinating economic policy. In addition to the group discussions, the leaders were holding a series of one-on-one talks.Obama was meeting Saturday with new British Prime Minister David Cameron for the first time since Cameron took power last month. Those talks were expected to cover the difficulties posed by the BP oil spill, the biggest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.Obama was also to meet with South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak to discuss South Korea's push for action by the U.N. Security Council to hold North Korea accountable for the sinking of a South Korean warship in March. In a third meeting, Obama was to hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao, a week after China announced it would start allowing its currency, the yuan, to rise in value against the dollar. The administration had been pushing China to take this step as a way of boosting U.S. exports to China.
In Toronto, hundreds of protesters moved through city streets Friday, but police in riot gear blocked them from getting near the summit security zone. Some 19,000 law enforcement officers, from all over Canada, were providing security at a cost of more than $900 million. The protests have been tame compared with past summits. The largest demonstration, sponsored by labor unions, was planned for Saturday.Obama arrived in Canada fresh from a congressional win on financial overhaul, a victory that the administration hopes will persuade the other G-20 nations to adopt their own tough standards for banks in an effort to avoid a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis that pushed the global economy into a deep recession. But in Friday's discussions, Obama made no headway in his call for more stimulus to keep the world economy growing. Instead, he ran into strong opposition from countries wanting to put deficit reduction first. There was little expectation of economic breakthroughs on the deficit versus stimulus debate, or on the issue of financial overhaul by the time the three days of talks end on Sunday. The G-20 leaders were expected to push tough decisions on global banking regulations off to their next meeting in Seoul, South Korea, in November.Divided on economic remedies, the leaders searched for common ground on other issues, such as providing greater support for maternal and infant health care in desperately poor countries — a key goal of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the summit host. Harper announced late Friday that the G-8 leaders had pledged to contribute $5 billion over the next five years to the initiative. He said Canada's contribution was $1.1 billion and the White House announced the U.S. would contribute $1.35 billion over the next two years, subject to congressional approval. Japan announced a pledge of $500 million over five years.
A Japanese spokesman, Kazuo Kodama, said that new Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan told his counterparts from Canada and Germany that North Korea's alleged torpedo attack is a threat to the peace and stability of the region. Kan wants summit partners to issue a clear message of condemnation of North Korea, the spokesman said.On Afghanistan, Cameron said he did not expect British troops — now numbering about 10,000 — to be in Afghanistan in five years' time. We can't be there for another five years, having been there for nine years already, he told Britain's Sky News.Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organization — for which Obama voiced strong support on Thursday after a meeting in Washington with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev — could also come up during the weekend talks. Obama pledged to help Russia speed up its more than decade-long bid in hopes that Moscow could win acceptance as early as Sept. 30.Crutsinger reported from Toronto. Associated Press writers Jane Wardell, Emma Vandore and Jeannine Aversa contributed from Huntsville; Rob Gillies, Foster Klug and Tom Raum from Toronto; and Matthew Lee from Washington.

EU carbon tax kicked into the long grass
LEIGH PHILLIPS 24.06.2010 @ 17:13 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - European commissioners are in a holding pattern over whether to introduce a tax on carbon across the EU, a proposal that if backed by the EU executive could prove to be one of the most controversial and bitterly fought over pieces of legislation Brussels has mooted in years.Under initial proposals by taxation commissioner Algirdas Semeta, from 2013, sources of greenhouse gases that are not currently covered by the EU's flagship environmental endeavour, the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) - sectors such as agriculture, as well as transport and households - would see a flat, minimum fee of between €4 and €30 per tonne.Mr Semeta himself is known to favour a price of €20 per tonne, although there is as yet no firm price tag and member states would be free to slap additional taxes on top.
The proposals would not involve fresh legislation, but a review of an existing energy tax directive, which sets minimum rates for energy products used in heating, electricity and motor fuels. At the moment, energy taxes are based on volume. According to the proposals, this would be based on carbon and energy content. However, the tax would not be imposed on electricity or other sectors already within the ETS, which covers half of the bloc's greenhouse gas emissions.EU commissioners held an initial debate on the issue on Wednesday (23 June). Ultimately the idea was kicked into the long grass, with the commissioners only resolving to engage in a second impact assessment of the proposal taking into account the ramifications such a move would have in a climate of economic crisis.
A first assessment was made back in 2008.Taxation spokeswoman Emer Traynor said that during a very useful and constructive discussion, there was wide support for the broad objective presented by commissioner Semeta, and general agreement that good preparatory work has been done in this area. One clear line did emerge from the debate, which was that the commission backs a common EU CO2 minimum taxation rate, so member states would not compete amongst each other in offering less onerous rates.
Once the commission agrees on further moves, the next step would be a formal legislative proposal from the commission, which must then be approved by the European Parliament and, as the subject of taxation requires it, unanimity from all member states - at this point a very unlikely scenario.
Red lines for angels
For the UK in particular, despite being one of the bloc's green angels, commonly running with those member states backing more stringent environmental laws, taxation is a red line. London does not want to deliver up to Brussels tax raising powers. At the same time, the move has support from some unusual quarters. The Italian government is open to the idea as a way to shift away from progressive, income-based taxation to flat, consumption based taxation.Outside of some eastern European states, flat taxes have been beyond the pale politically as they charge the same rate of taxation on the poor as they do on the rich. But in some conservative quarters, normally strong opponents of new taxes and more sceptical of environmental concerns, the introduction of carbon taxation is seen as a way of stealthily introducing flat taxes under the cover of the battle against climate change.Climate action commissioner Connie Hedegaard, herself a Danish conservative, backs the Semeta initiative and supports the need to shift the burden of taxation away from labour. In December last year, French government attempts at introducing a carbon tax were struck down by the country's constitutional court.
Householder burden
The judges found that President Nicolas Sarkozy's carbon tax framework placed the overwhelming burden of the tax, set at €17 per tonne of CO2 emitted, on households instead of industry. The large number of exemptions from the carbon tax runs counter to the goal of fighting climate change and violates the equality enjoyed by all in terms of public charges, the court ruling read. Some EU directorates-general, the European equivalent of government departments, are also believed to be opposed to the idea, while the agriculture and transport sectors are likely to mount a campaign against it as well.
Leaders play down austerity split on eve of G20 By Alister Bull and Gernot Heller – Fri Jun 25, 11:04 pm ET
HUNTSVILLE, Ontario (Reuters) – The world's richest economies, saddled with huge debts after spending their way out of the credit crisis, papered over differences on Friday on how to clean up their finances with minimal damage to growth.Leaders from the Group of Eight, a club that spans the large industrialized nations and Russia, met in Canada before a broader summit with China and other rising economic powers of the G20, now the world's dominant economic policy forum.Washington appeared to be at loggerheads with Berlin in the run-up to the Canada summits. U.S. officials expressed concerns that a nascent recovery from the global recession could be derailed by accelerating austerity in much of Western Europe.German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, however, that the G8 talks had not produced any conflict over economic policy. The discussion was not controversial but was based on great mutual understanding, she told reporters.A U.S. official said,There is a broad consensus among the G8 leaders, a convergence of views ... about how to maintain durable growth while also reaffirming, of course, the common shared commitments to fiscal consolidation going forward.According to off-the-record briefings by European officials, U.S. President Barack Obama told his counterparts he was worried that excessively deep and fast cuts in Europe could eat into growth, but he did not question the need for cuts themselves. The Group of 20 has struggled to keep the unity of last year when governments pumped trillions of dollars into the economy to prevent recession turning into depression and vowed to prevent another credit crisis from endangering the world economy.Obama, buoyed by a deal in the U.S. Congress in the early hours of Friday to toughen rules for Wall Street, urged other G20 leaders to make good on promises to curb risky bank behavior that sparked the financial crisis in 2007.We need to act in concert for a simple reason: this crisis proved, and events continue to affirm, that our national economies are inextricably linked," Obama said, calling on other leaders to match the U.S. progress on financial reform.
SURGING DEBT BURDEN
Burdened by surging debt, G8 leaders said on Friday they would spend $5 billion over five years for mothers and their newborns in Africa, shying away from bold aid pledges to the world's poor after failing to meet previous targets. As rich economies slowly heal, helped by strong Asian growth and demand, disagreements over the next steps in the response to the crisis have unsettled investors who fear that a splintering of policy could undermine recovery. The cohesion generally evident among policymakers in dealing with the global crisis is in danger of giving way to a more divisive debate about how to manage the recovery, Credit Agricole analysts said in a note to clients.Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said he was cautiously optimistic the G20 nations could reach an agreement on targets for cutting their budget deficits, while South Korean Finance Minister Yoon Jeung-hyun highlighted concern the recovery is too fragile. No one knows for certain how the post-crisis world economy will look like. It is my opinion that we will enter a phase of jobless and low economic growth, Yoon said.Obama, concerned that the recovery is tenuous, faces high U.S. unemployment and the possible loss of his Democratic Party's control of Congress in elections in November and he has been reluctant to adopt spending cuts to curb the deficit. The aggregate debt of the rich countries within the G20 is expected to hit 107.7 percent of GDP this year, almost three times the 37 percent debt forecast for emerging market economies of the G20 and up from 80.2 percent at the outset of the crisis in 2007, the International Monetary Fund says.
British Prime Minister David Cameron, whose government unveiled an austere budget this week, said smoothing out imbalances between export-rich countries and debt-laden consumer nations would require belt-tightening by America too. Part of dealing with the imbalances is for the worst deficit countries to roll up their sleeves, get on with the job and make sure they are living within their means, he said. The G20 pledged last year to coordinate a string of banking reforms by the end of 2012. [ID:nLDE65O0RV] Obama can boast he is meeting the bulk of those commitments. Europe has yet to come up with comprehensive rules for financial reform.
SECURING RECOVERY
Other G20 conflict zones include trade and China's yuan currency. China seemed to defuse some of the G20 trade tension last weekend when it said unexpectedly it would ease its grip on the tightly managed yuan. But some economists have questioned whether the move was anything more than symbolic. A Brazilian official said G20 negotiators were considering including a line in the summit communique that would welcome Beijing's latest shift and urge it to follow through with a stronger appreciation in its currency. The communique might come up with this idea, it depends on China. The Chinese are still negotiating over the terms and the language of this particular statement, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. About 2,000 anti-G20 demonstrators marched to within a couple of blocks of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto before they were halted by riot police. At least one person was arrested.Should the G20 need a moment of levity, it has the soccer World Cup in South Africa.Asked if he and Merkel would watch England play Germany on Sunday, Britain's Cameron said: There is an idea we might try and watch it together. I will try not to wrestle her to the ground during penalties, but we will have to see.

Canadians object to G20's $1 billion bill-Mr Harper spent a bit more than five bucks on a fake lake (Photo: The Truth About...)ANDREW WILLIS 25.06.2010 @ 17:36 CET
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - World leaders have landed in Canada for a three-day session of meetings in the G8 (25-26 June) and G20 formats (26-27 June), part of the ongoing process of restoring global growth and overhauling the world's financial sector rules. With international eyes focusing on the potential stimulus versus austerity scrap between different member states, Canadian citizens meanwhile have reacted in uproar at news that the weekend's bill is set to total over $1 billion. Although 90 percent of that cost comes under the security heading, it is a artificial lake intended to impress journalists in the press area that has come in for the heaviest criticism. The controversy may not be helped by the forecast lack of tangible results set to emanate from the two sets of meetings, with the Canadian gathering widely seen as more of a stepping stone between the G20 meetings of Pittsburg (September 2009) and Seoul (November 2010).Leaders set a programme for action in the US city last year, with attention now focused on securing its effective implementation by the end of 2010. Many of the really critical timelines are for later in the year, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said earlier this month. The Conservative leader has singled out financial sector reform, fiscal policy and global trade strategies as this meeting's main topics, with media attention focusing on European calls to restore budgetary discipline versus Washington's push to continue stimulus spending.Europe has agreed the time has come to start implementing exit strategies, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said on Thursday evening before the talks started. There is no room for more deficit spending. In a letter to G20 members last week, US President Barack Obama warned against cutting national debts too quickly, arguing it would put economic recovery at risk.
Since then, Washington has struck a more emollient tone, with analysts saying differences between the two sides should not be exaggerated. While an end to US stimulus spending will see its own deficit come down considerably in the coming years, Europe's austerity measures are not set to kick in until 2011, and even then will start slowly. The need for a global bank levy provides one the more concrete topics for discussion, but there is no guarantee that participants around the table will come to an agreement. In the G20, the idea of a bank levy is not supported by at least half of the members, Russian ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov told a group of journalists on Friday morning in Brussels.Neither is it acceptable to Russia,he continued, arguing that banks would merely pass on the extra costs to their clients.Calls for a global tax on financial transactions are likely to run into even greater opposition, while it remains to be seen what concrete measures leaders can agree to regarding a boost to world trade. The Basel committee of central bankers is also set to present leaders with plans on new bank capital requirements, known as the Basel III rules, with reports suggesting the latest version is less onerous than previous drafts following intense lobbying from the industry.
Future of the G8?
With the global financial crisis leading the G20 to become the primary economic decision-making forum, speculation has been rife recently that this month's G8 meeting would be the last of its kind. France, next year's chair of the gathering of rich countries, has said it plans to continue with the format however, with this week's meeting set to focus more on development and security issues, leaving economic topics for the larger format which takes in developing countries as well.
In their final communique, G8 leaders are likely to stress they are not reneging on aid commitments to the world's poorest regions such as parts of Africa, despite ongoing criticism from NGOs regarding backsliding in aid promises and slow progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has also signaled his intention to raise the issue of Iranian sanctions. I will inform our G8 partners about our deep concerns related to Iran's nuclear programme, he said before the start of Friday's meeting. EU ambitions to go beyond the recently agreed UN sanctions are unlikely to win applause from the Russian bench however. We do not support them. We think they are totally wrong in substance and tactics,Russian ambassador Chizhov told Friday's briefing in Brussels.
China's currency rises to new high ahead of G-20
11:30PM JUNE 24,10
SHANGHAI – China's currency surged Friday to its highest level yet, with central bank setting the daily official level at 6.7896 yuan to the dollar, acting on a pledge to allow greater flexibility in the exchange rate ahead of a weekend G-20 summit. The rate set by the People's Bank of China was 0.3 percent stronger than Thursday's rate of 6.8100, well within the daily 0.5 percent limit that the currency is allowed to move in. The rate — known as the central parity rate — is a weighted average of prices given by market makers, excluding highest and lowest offers.
Beijing's pledge to let the currency fluctuate more after keeping it pegged near 6.83for the past two years was welcomed by many of China's trading partners, given concerns that the yuan's level may be undervalued and thus distorting trade by making Chinese exports artificially cheap in dollar terms. The move to loosen the exchange rate was expected to ease U.S. concerns ahead of this weekend's summit of the Group of 20 leading economies. However, President Barack Obama said Thursday that it is too early to tell whether the greater flexibility promised by Beijing will be sufficient over the long-run. He said that while the initial signs were positive, the U.S. will watch the trajectory of the yuan over the course of the year.Obama says a more flexible yuan would be good for China, the U.S., and the entire world economy. He is expected to raise the currency issues in talks with Chinese officials in Canada at the G-20.China has chafed at such pressure, saying its currency is at about the right level and that trade imbalances stem from other fundamental problems with the U.S. and other western economies.
G20 nations see different paths for securing recovery
11:20PM JUNE 24,10
TORONTO/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – World leaders aimed for a common target on Thursday of securing the economic recovery, but disagreed over how best to reach it.With two days to go before the Group of 20 summit convenes in Toronto, officials tried to downplay differences between the United States and Europe over how quickly to shift from crisis-fighting mode to budgetary belt-tightening.That's the delicate balance that we need to try to strike this weekend, Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said. His U.S. counterpart, Timothy Geithner, said each country needed to decide what policy mix made sense to ensure both growth and fiscal responsibility. Our job is to make sure we're all sitting there together, focused on this challenge of growth and confidence because growth and confidence are paramount, he said in an interview with BBC World News America. The G20 club of rich and emerging economies joined forces at the height of the global financial panic and poured an estimated $5 trillion into stimulus spending, emergency loans and bank guarantees, helping to ward off a global depression. The group still has a long and difficult to-do list, including forging consensus on new rules about how much capital that banks must hold, and making sure national financial regulatory reforms do not clash on a global scale. The cost of fighting the financial crisis and recession left gaping holes in government finances, and Greece's debt troubles have focused Europe's attention on the need to shrink budget deficits before investors lose patience.European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said Europe could no longer afford to borrow and spend, and must repair budgets in order to rebuild confidence for growth. It will not be a change overnight but there is no more room for deficit spending,Barroso told a news conference in Toronto. The United States wants to make sure European countries -- Germany, in particular -- do not remove government supports too quickly because that could derail the recovery.U.S. stocks fell on Thursday on concerns over the durability of the economic rebound.
President Barack Obama, pushing Washington's pro-growth, line, said surplus countries -- often code for Germany and China -- must find ways to stimulate growth. But he also acknowledged that countries including the United States with medium- and long-term deficit problems would have to address them. Not every country is going to respond exactly the same way, but all of us are going to have responsibilities to rebalance in ways that allow for long-term, sustained economic growth,Obama said in Washington during an appearance with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers, in an interview with Reuters, also stressed that growth would be key, but said it was not simply a matter of choosing between austerity and expansion. There obviously is an importance in having a growth strategy, but I think it's too simple to think of growth strategies only as running budget deficits or printing money, he said.In Europe, senior officials were in no mood to back down on their plans to cut spending.Saying she expected controversial discussions in Toronto over Europe's budget priorities, German Chancellor Angela Merkel insisted Berlin would forge ahead with its biggest program of fiscal cutbacks since World War Two. European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet dismissed the idea budget cuts could torpedo the fragile economic recovery that is taking hold. The idea that austerity measures could trigger stagnation is incorrect, Trichet told Italian newspaper La Repubblica, describing the German budget plans as good and repeating calls for more fiscal discipline in the 16-nation euro zone. Merkel, who aims to save 80 billion euros in the next four years, told ARD television that sustained growth could only be guaranteed through getting a grip on deficits and debt.I and the EU will argue this position. There are others who are not yet so convinced of this exit strategy, she said. The G20, which includes the world's biggest economies and two-thirds of its population, holds its summit in Toronto on Saturday and Sunday. It will be preceded by a meeting on Friday and Saturday of the G8, composed of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.Downtown Toronto's downtown banking district has seen business drop off as heavy security is mounted. Canadian police said on Thursday they had arrested the driver of a car near the meeting site who was carrying a chainsaw, crossbow and fuel containers.
BANKING REFORM
Economic policy has not been the only issue dividing the G20, which has also seen its unity tested by reforms to the banking sector.European proposals for global taxes on banks and financial transactions have run into opposition from countries like Canada that say their banks are in good health.European countries are concerned that planned new rules requiring banks to set aside more capital may crimp lending.
Obama, meanwhile, hopes to sign off on rules to regulate finance within weeks as lawmakers raced to meet a Thursday deadline they had set themselves to agree on their own financial overhaul package.Obama signaled on Thursday that China's move this week to relax the peg of its currency, the yuan, to the dollar may not be enough to shield Beijing from accusations that it is using the currency to gain an unfair trade advantage. The initial signs were positive. But it is too early to tell whether the appreciation, that will track the market, is sufficient to allow for the rebalancing that we think is appropriate,Obama said. The yuan has risen by about 0.4 percent against the dollar since Beijing's policy change -- a significant step relative to its earlier freeze, but far less than the 25 to 40 percent increase that some analysts say it needs to make to achieve fair value.(Additional reporting by Nigel Davies in Madrid and Sakari Suoninen in Frankfurt, Writing by Andrew Quinn and Emily Kaiser; Editing by Peter Cooney)
G8/G20 leaders arrive PM, Governor General meet with China's Hu Last Updated: Thursday, June 24, 2010 | 10:56 PM ET CBC News
Leaders from around the world are beginning to arrive in Canada for the G8 and G20 summits amid unprecedented security at the two host sites in Ontario.Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan arrives at Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Wednesday for the G8/20 summits. (Dave Chan/Canadian Press) Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa on Thursday.A slew of other leaders and delegates are to arrive throughout the day and on Friday will begin three days of intense meetings at Muskoka's Deerhurst Resort and a convention centre in downtown Toronto.Motorcades carrying leaders from Toronto's Pearson International Airport brought traffic on roadways to a near-standstill throughout the day.
Meanwhile in the downtown core, residents and workers near the G20 site faced the maze of barricades and police checkpoints with quiet resignation. The summits will allow world leaders to take stock of the global economy following last year's financial crisis, while Harper is expected to pressure some leaders to reduce their countries' high debt levels. The prime minister also said his government, as G8 host, will push for a global maternal and child health initiative for developing countries, although it has come under fire for excluding abortion funding from the plan.
G8 falling short on Africa AIDS funds: Lewis
As the world leaders began arriving in Canada on Thursday, a prominent voice in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Africa accused the G8 of a demented passivity on the issue.Stephen Lewis, Canada's former ambassador to the United Nations, said upward of nine million people infected with HIV/AIDS are unable to get treatment in Africa and that the G8 has fallen short on its promises to the continent by at least $10 billion. You would think that leaders of Western countries who understand what's happening on a continent like Africa wouldn't need to be pushed or bullied or pummeled,Lewis told CBC News on Thursday,If they come out of this G8 without delivering on the promises on Africa, they'll have blood on their hands. I don't know how else to describe it.On Friday, Harper will officially welcome the leaders of the seven other G8 nations — France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Britain, the U.S. and Russia — before the leaders join G20 delegates in Toronto on Saturday.Britain's David Cameron and Japan's Naoto Kan will make their debuts as leaders at the summits, while Wayne Swan, Australia's new deputy prime minister, is expected to represent his country's new leader, Julia Gillard, following the ouster of Kevin Rudd as prime minister and leader of the ruling Labour Party.
Demonstrations in Toronto, Ottawa
Critics have also lambasted Harper's government over high security costs for the summits, which are expected to surpass $1 billion. The government has defended the amount, saying such spending is necessary for protecting leaders, as well as thousands of delegates and reporters.Dozens of police officers with bicycles kept watch as several hundred First Nations protesters marched peacefully on Toronto's Bay Street on Thursday to draw attention to aboriginal issues ahead of the summits.
The marchers shouted, No G20 on stolen native land! while carrying placards, banners and Mohawk Nation flags, as well as the upside-down Maple Leaf.Meanwhile in Ottawa, rival groups of demonstrators greeted the Chinese president as he arrived at Rideau Hall for a meeting with Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean.Hundreds of Hu supporters, reportedly recruited from around the region by Chinese officials, lined Sussex Drive outside Jean's residence, waving flags and banging drums and cymbals.Directly across the road, protesters connected to the Falun Gong spiritual movement raised banners decrying human rights abuses in China. With files from The Canadian Press Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2010/06/24/g8-g20-leaders.html#ixzz0rpcG11jp
G20 leaders facing worries about rising deficits By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer – Thu Jun 24, 7:35 pm ET
TORONTO – World leaders trickled into Canada's largest city on Thursday for global economic talks, but their resolve seemed less focused than at earlier meetings held in the fearful atmosphere of the worst downturn since the 1930s. New leaders in Australia, Japan and Britain could alter the dynamics. With recoveries in their countries proceeding at starkly different paces, leaders of the 20 largest industrial and developing nations found themselves at odds over how to strike the right balance between continued government stimulus spending and confronting ballooning budget deficits. Divisions also persisted on proposals for a global bank tax and over how much multinational banks should be required to keep on reserve as a cushion against loan losses. The most pressing issue is sustainable economic growth, said Canada's finance minister, Jim Flaherty. But he told a news conference before a speech to the Toronto Board of Trade that this means different things in different parts of the world. There are clearly some countries, particularly some European countries, that need to fiscally consolidate on an urgent basis, he said.He noted that Canada's economy is fundamentally strong and that its banks weathered the financial crisis without failures or government bailouts. We are the envy of the world,he said in voicing opposition to a global bank tax.Security was tight as foreign leaders arrived during the day and their motorcades tied traffic into knots near the airport and on roads into town. Barricades turned Toronto's downtown core into a virtual fortress.
Police said they took a man into custody Thursday after searching a car and finding containers of gasoline and implements that could be used as weapons, including a cross bow, a chain saw a baseball bat and sledge hammers. A large makeshift container was strapped to the roof. The car was stopped near a hotel where the French delegation is staying for the summit. Workers at the hotel had walked off the job Thursday as part of a labor dispute.Const. Hugh Smith said the man was being questioned on why he had so many of the items and why he was in the area. He said charges are pending. The vehicle was seized. Const. Tony Vella said there's no reason to believe the incident was summit-related.Although heavier protests were expected later in the week, demonstrations on Thursday were tame and nonconfrontational. Police with bicycles moved in tandem with several hundred First Nations protesters — descendants of Canada's aboriginal residents. They marched through downtown streets, waving upside-down Canadian flags, pounding on drums and shouting, No G-20 on stolen native land.Canadian police patrolled the Lake Ontario waterfront from various boats and jet skis. One of the first to arrive in Canada was Chinese President Hu Jintao, who met separately on Thursday in Ottawa with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the summit host.Harper and Hu signed an agreement that would allow for more Chinese to visit Canada. Hu also agreed to clear the way for Canadian beef to be exported to China. In the views ranging from developing our own economies, to sustaining the recovery momentum in the global economy ... there is a need and also a possibility for Canada and China to further scale up their co-operation,said Hu.
Britain, Japan and, unexpectedly, Australia were sending new leaders to the G-20 summit. As leaders began arriving, Australia's ruling Labor Party abruptly ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.Julia Gillard replaced him, becoming Australia's first female leader. Wayne Swan, her new deputy and the country's finance minister, was to represent Australia at the Canadian meetings. It will be the first appearance at international forums for British Prime Minister David Cameron and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan. And both were bearing messages that U.S. President Barack Obama might rather not hear.Cameron comes after his government unveiled an emergency budget that contained higher taxes and the toughest cuts in public spending in decades. And Kan said this week that deficit reduction would be his top agenda item at the Canadian meetings and that Japan would soon start debating a possible sales tax increase to rein in the nation's bulging deficits. Both are trying to avoid Greece-style government debt crises.By contrast, the U.S. has generally said that governments worldwide should not pull back stimulus programs too quickly and risk choking growth. Obama in a letter to other leaders cautioned against slamming on the brakes too hard, but encouraged trade surplus countries — he didn't mention them but he clearly meant China Germany and Japan — to do more to promote domestic spending.
Obama was to arrive Friday morning. Cameron arrived Thursday evening after a stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Speaking to reporters aboard his plane, Cameron said: This weekend isn't about a row over fiscal policy. We all agree about the need for fiscal consolidation. For me, this G-20 is about putting the world economy on an irreversible path to recovery.Cameron said his country was paying a heavy price for its involvement in Afghanistan and sent condolences to the families of four soldiers killed in a vehicle accident there on Wednesday. The summit offers Cameron his first chance to meet as prime minister with Obama since the BP oil spill, which has frayed relations between the two close allies.Despite U.S. appeals to refrain from removing stimulus measures too quickly, country after country is rushing to slash spending and raise taxes, including austerity moves in Germany and France. German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday defended her government's moves, saying in an interview with German public broadcaster ARD that Germany has done much more to revive the global economy than most other nations.Germany is Europe's strongest. The first of this week's two economic sessions is a meeting of the Group of Eight, the world's older leading industrial democracies — the U.S., Canada, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan — plus Russia on Friday and parts of Saturday at a lakeside resort about 140 miles north of Toronto. The larger group of 20 nations, including such major developing powers as China, Brazil and India, will meet at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Saturday and Sunday. The leaders maintained remarkable unity at three previous summits, but that unity is now fragmented. However, a move by China to let its currency appreciate against the dollar appeared to lessen trade frictions. Hu's government began Monday to allow the Chinese yuan to rise after having fixed the yuan-dollar exchange rate for the past two years.
A more flexible yuan was seen as a critical development by the Obama administration to fulfill one of the G-20 pledges to address dangerous imbalances, such as China's massive trade surpluses and the United States' huge trade and budget deficits. A stronger yuan, which is also called the renminbi, should provide relief for American, European and Japanese manufacturers which have struggled to compete with low-price exports from China.Critics in Congress are still threatening China with sanctions unless the yuan moves significantly. The G-20 final statement expected to be issued on Sunday notes that while growth is returning in many countries, the recovery is uneven and fragile, and unemployment remains at unacceptable levels, according to an early draft that the environmental group Greenpeace said it obtained. We recognize the important progress made since our last meeting in Pittsburgh, but we also agree that much work remains, said the draft, posted on Greenpeace's website.Associated Press writers Martin Crutsinger, Rob Gillies and Jane Wardell contributed to this report.
Ban sound cannons at G20: civil liberties group Group trying to get injunction against police's use of acoustic device Last Updated: Wednesday, June 23, 2010 | 7:31PM ET CBC News
A police officer with an LRAD-X 100 acoustic communication device, known as a sound cannon, during a demonstration of G20 security and crowd control measures in Toronto. (Frank Gunn/Canadian Press) The Canadian Civil Liberties Association is asking a judge to grant an injunction to stop police from using so-called sound cannons against G20 protesters. On Wednesday, lawyers for the association presented their arguments in Ontario Superior Court in Toronto.Toronto police have purchased four of the cannons, which can emit piercing noises similar to a smoke detector. Police have said they will only use the sonic cannons as a loudspeaker to communicate with the crowd. That promise isn't good enough, says David Cavalluzzo, a lawyer for the association. They said the same thing in Pittsburgh at the last G20 summit where the police officers in a riotous situation did not use the protocols established for their use, Cavalluzzo argued.Guidelines for the use of the sound cannons are unclear, and police in Toronto have not been properly trained, he told the judge. The training was absolutely absurd in this instance, Cavalluzzo said.We had a two-hour training course, [and] we had a test that was given where every participant on the test got 100 per cent.
Torontonians should not be guinea pigs: rights group
Cavalluzzo said the devices have the potential to permanently damage hearing; he accused police of relying on safety studies done by the manufacturers of the devices rather than independent research.Cavalluzzo said Toronto residents should not be used as guinea pigs to see whether the sound cannons are safe.Nathalie Des Rosiers, who is also with the association, argued the sound cannons pose a legitimate safety concern. We are worried that if they are displayed in an urban setting, they are going to cause permanent hearing loss, she said. They are dangerous weapons, and they should have been approved appropriately. They should have been tested appropriately.
The association says the RCMP doesn't use the high-pitched device to control crowds, and local police shouldn't either.
No louder than a weed whacker: police lawyer
However, a lawyer for the Toronto police argued that the sound cannons are needed to communicate with a crowd so noisy it may drown out the sound of a traditional megaphone.Darrel Smith compared the maximum decibel level to that of an ambulance siren, leaf blower or similar devices. They present no greater danger of hearing loss than a weed whacker, said Smith.Smith said police would move at least 75 metres away from a crowd before changing the settings to full blast. He said that when the cannons are used to project a voice, sound levels reach the mid-90 decibel range. That is about the same level as the sound of a subway train or lawnmower.Judge David Brown is expected to give his decision on Friday morning. With files from The Canadian Press Read more: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2010/06/23/toronto-g20-sound-cannons-civil-liberties.html#ixzz0rm8WzGFd
G20 Brings The Green Zone To Toronto
The Excavator June 21, 2010
Excessively armed thugs parading through the streets, military checkpoints at traffic lights, police helicopters hovering over the city, a long chain-link fence around the center of downtown, secret snipers on rooftops, urban warfare weapons, bomb-sniffing dogs, sound canons; this is not the sight of the infamous Green Zone in blood-drenched Baghdad, but a picture of what downtown Toronto will look like this weekend when the city hosts the world’s leading heads of states, and government officials.New austerity measures for heavily indebted nations will be discussed at the Toronto G20.They are in Toronto for the G20 conference, where they plan to discuss a global economic order, and new austerity measures for heavily indebted nations. It is expected that U.S. President Barack Obama will fearmonger about Iran’s nuclear capabilities and motives, just as he did at the last G20 meeting that took place in Pittsburgh in September, 2009.The heavy presence of ground troops on the streets are usually seen in war-torn countries, occupied countries, or countries that are on the edge of a violent revolution, so it has come as an unwelcome surprise to many Canadians that the downtown core of its major city, known for its safety and cleanliness, is being transformed into a military fortress to serve the world’s leading politicians.
The billion-dollar expense for all the security gear and gadgets points to a burgeoning police state. Although most people think nothing of it, they know deep down that only leaders who conspire against the people’s interests require the protection of a thousand bodyguards, motorcades, and helicopters. The most famous assassination of the President of the United States was not done by a citizen, but by the C.I.A. and the U.S. National Security apparatus, whose fingerprints all over the current push towards Homeland Security in North America.Members of the huge military apparatus at the conference claim that their chief role is to protect the public but that begs the question, do unpopular world leaders represent the will of the people? Whatever modern poll you look at, and in whatever Western country, the answer is no.Ahead of protests, the Toronto police visited the homes of some activists, and warned them against protesting. The Toronto Sun reports:Protestors allege they are being targeted for questioning or sometimes detained by police for helping to organize G8 and G20 demonstrations. Some protestors even claimed the immigration status of some members, or their families, are being threatened by police if they take part in demonstrations. The actions by the G20’s Integrated Security Unit are reminiscent of the crackdown on protest activities by security forces at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul in 2008. The highly militarized atmosphere is meant to intimidate citizens, and make them avoid future public demonstrations. The establishment of security zones and free speech zones is another reminder that people’s political will are denied by politicians and the police in modern Western democracies.
Years from now, violent rebellion against the New World Order may be a fact of Western life. But in today’s world it is hard to justify the government’s fears of violence in Toronto. Unlike Baghdad, Toronto is not under occupation, and there is no history of rebels violently attacking police officers, and innocent people. Exaggerations about G20’s security have reached the point that NORAD’s commander, U.S. Admiral James Winnefeld, offered America’s military assistance. The idea of using NORAD’s help at a civil protest is despotic, and at the same time, stupid. Does the Canadian government expect that Iran is going to fire nuclear missiles at the Blue Jays stadium? The whole cult about security began when politicians declared they will get tough on crime, but it really took off after the terrorist attacks on 9/11. That tragedy is now viewed by a wide number of people around the world as the false-flag of the ages. Many Canadians are well aware that the greatest threat of terrorism to the public does not come from Muslim radicals, or anti-government protesters, but from Western intelligence agencies like the CIA, MI6, and Mossad.
Despite the mass political awakening, it is too soon to say whether the majority of people in North America fully realize that the end of their way of life begins with military barricades, and riot police. Although Toronto’s Green Zone will only be maintained for a short weekend, the new guidelines for security will be aggressively enforced in the future at the slightest notice of a protest, or any kind of civil unrest.People can still afford to make fun of all the police pageantry at the G20, but they will soon regret that they did not immediately see military barricades, and riot police, as a direct harm to their security, freedom, and overall well-being. What will transpire at the G20 from June 26 to 27 are the clear manifestations of a police state that rules in the interests of an entrenched global elite. If a visitor from Baghdad saw Toronto on June 26- 27, 2010 for the first and last time in his life, he would conclude that the city is occupied, and that the governing powers are thuggish. Iraqis know that the biggest criminals and terrorists are not their neighbors, but the military occupiers in the Green Zone. The people of Canada, America, and the West must learn that lesson too. And fast.In the upcoming weekend, it would be best if the well-mannered citizens, and proud rebels of Toronto, decided to ignore the World Cup of politics. Instead of getting bombarded by LRAD sound weapons in the streets, they should stay inside, watch the World Cup of football, and get bombarded by another sound weapon, the Vuvuzela.

Investment demand for gold has risen on concerns that sovereign debt problems could spread Photo: EPA Tim Levene of Augmentum Capital, a fund backed by Lord Rothschild's RIT Capital Partners, said the investment was not a bet on the gold price but on the future growth of the BullionVault platform, which stores physical gold for private clients in London, New York and Zurich. RIT currently has 9pc of its assets in physical gold. Investment demand for the metal has risen on concerns that sovereign debt problems could spread and the value of currencies plunge. The gold price hit a new nominal all-time high above $1,260 on Friday and analysts expect the price will continue to rise. David EliasIn return for the £12.5m investment, the World Gold Council and Augmentum will receive an equity stake in BullionVault.Marcus Grubb, managing director of investment at the World Gold Council, said taking the BullionVault stake was part of the Council's strategy of increasing its portfolio of successful platforms for gold investment. Mr Levine and Mr Grubb will join BullionVault's board. BullionVault has about $800m (£540m) of gold under management for 20,000 customers from more than 90 countries. The average holding is around £30,000.The World Gold Council's previous investment vehicle, a gold exchange-traded fund, now has 1,306 tonnes of the metal under management, worth $52.3bn. This makes it the world's second-largest exchange-traded fund. If the fund was a central bank, it would be sixth largest in the league table of gold holders.

NUMBERS 25:10 - 30:1
10 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.
16 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.

NUMBERS 27:1-23
1 Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.
2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,
3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.
4 Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.
5 And Moses brought their cause before the LORD.
6 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.
8 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter.
9 And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren.
10 And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father's brethren.
11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of judgment, as the LORD commanded Moses.
12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother was gathered.
14 For ye rebelled against my commandment in the desert of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the water before their eyes: that is the water of Meribah in Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.
15 And Moses spake unto the LORD, saying,
16 Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.
22 And Moses did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:
23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses.
NUMBERS 28:1-31
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.
3 And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering.
4 The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;
5 And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil.
6 It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.
7 And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.
8 And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even: as the meat offering of the morning, and as the drink offering thereof, thou shalt offer it, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
9 And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:
10 This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
11 And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot;

13 And a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a meat offering unto one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.
14 And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year.
15 And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
16 And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.
17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.
18 In the first day shall be an holy convocation; ye shall do no manner of servile work therein:
19 But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish:
20 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;
21 A several tenth deal shalt thou offer for every lamb, throughout the seven lambs:
22 And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.
23 Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.
24 After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.
25 And on the seventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work.
26 Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:
27 But ye shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;
28 And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,
29 A several tenth deal unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;
30 And one kid of the goats, to make an atonement for you.
31 Ye shall offer them beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, (they shall be unto you without blemish) and their drink offerings.
NUMBERS 29:1-40
1 And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.
2 And ye shall offer a burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year without blemish:
3 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram,

7 And ye shall have on the tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work therein:
8 But ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD for a sweet savour; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year; they shall be unto you without blemish:
9 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals to a bullock, and two tenth deals to one ram,
10 A several tenth deal for one lamb, throughout the seven lambs:
11 One kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering of it, and their drink offerings.
12 And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days:

NUMBERS 30:1

PROPHETS PORTION
1 KINGS 18:46-19:21
46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?
21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
NEW TESTAMENT PORTION
MATTHEW 26:1-30
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
MARK 14:1-26
1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
LUKE 22:1-20
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
JOHN 2:13-22
13 And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.
17 And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?
19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
21 But he spake of the temple of his body.
22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
JOHN 7:1-13,37-39
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest.
4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.
5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?
12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.
JOHN 11:55-12:1
55 And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?
57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
JOHN 13:1
1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
JOHN 18:28,39
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
JOHN 19:14
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
ACTS 2:1-21
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
ACTS 12:3-4
3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
ACTS 20:5-6,16
5 These going before tarried for us at Troas.
6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
16 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
ACTS 27:9-11
9 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,
10 And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.
11 Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.
1 CORINTHIANS 5:6-8
6 Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
1 CORINTHIANS 16:8
8 But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
HEBREWS 11:28
28 Through faith he kept the passover, and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them.

17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

65 For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
18 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
19 And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.
4 The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;
5 And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil.
11 And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot;
12 And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram;
20 And their meat offering shall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth deals shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth deals for a ram;

28 And their meat offering of flour mingled with oil, three tenth deals unto one bullock, two tenth deals unto one ram,
29 A several tenth deal unto one lamb, throughout the seven lambs;

31 And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.
32 And on the seventh day seven bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish:
33 And their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:
34 And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, his meat offering, and his drink offering.
35 On the eighth day ye shall have a solemn assembly: ye shall do no servile work therein:
36 But ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: one bullock, one ram, seven lambs of the first year without blemish:
37 Their meat offering and their drink offerings for the bullock, for the ram, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the manner:
38 And one goat for a sin offering; beside the continual burnt offering, and his meat offering, and his drink offering.
39 These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.
40 And Moses told the children of Israel according to all that the LORD commanded Moses.
NUMBERS 30:1
1 And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

Oil Industry Insider and CFR Member Predicts Gulf Evacuation
Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com June 25, 2010
Buried in an article on Gulf of Mexico scenarios and predictions, Joel Achenbach of the Washington Post quotes Matthew Simmons, founder and chairman emeritus of Simmons & Company International. In response to a tropical storm brewing in the Caribbean, Simmons says: We’re going to have to evacuate the gulf states. Can you imagine evacuating 20 million people?… This story is 80 times worse than I thought. The National Hurricane Center said today that a stormy region in the Caribbean will get organized and strengthen into a tropical storm. It has a 40 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone — in other words, a hurricane — in the next two days, an estimate that was at zero a few days ago. Upper-level winds are expected to become more conducive for development of this system as it moves westward or west-northwestward around 10 mph over the next couple of days, the NHC told the Baltimore Sun. There is a medium chance (40 percent) of this system becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours.AccuWeather.com forecaster Joe Bastardi said steering winds could bring the storm into the Gulf of Mexico by early next week. Gulf waters are very warm, so that would not be good news, according to Bastardi. An AccuWeather.com illustration (above) depicts the storm pushing oil onshore.Oil in the Gulf not only contains a massive amount of methane, but also deadly hydrogen sulfide, benzene and methylene chloride. BP admits methane makes up about 40 percent of the leaking crude by mass.Matthew Simmons is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and subscribes the Club of Rome’s Limits to Growth propaganda. He is also a proponent of Peak Oil, the scarcity theory exploited by globalists to push for depopulation and a systematic dismantling of modern civilization.
Many scientists now believe oil is abiotic — continually generated deep within the earth — and is not finite and produced from organic material. As Joel Skousen notes, Peak Oil is arriving not so much because the supply has really peaked, but because the manipulated supply is peaking. The U.S. is withholding vast Arctic and offshore resources … and that isn’t likely to change in our lifetime. We’re stuck with these powerful controlling forces, and will be — thanks to a dumbed-down electorate — until it’s too late to do anything about it(see Dr. Stanley Monteith, The Peak Oil Myth).
Methane and Martial Law in the Gulf of Mexico
Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com June 25, 2010
Earlier this week Reuters reported on a massive amount of methane discovered in the Gulf of Mexico. Texas A&M University oceanography professor John Kessler said methane gas levels in some areas are astonishingly high. Kessler recently returned from a 10-day research expedition near the BP oil gusher. Kessler’s team measured both surface and deep water within a 5-mile (8 kilometer) radius of BP’s destroyed wellhead. There is an incredible amount of methane in there, Kessler told reporters. He said the level may be as much as one million times the normal level.BP admits methane makes up about 40 percent of the leaking crude by mass.In late May BP said methane makes up about 40 percent of the leaking crude by mass. In addition to methane, large mounts of toxic hydrogen sulfide, benzene and methylene chloride are leaking into the Gulf according to the EPA and others.Lindsay Williams, a former Alaskan pipeline chaplain with high-level oil industry connections, told the Alex Jones Show on June 10 that deadly gases are indeed escaping from the breached wellhead.Investigative journalist Wayne Madson, writing for Oil Price, states that his sources inside the federal government, FEMA, and the US Army Corps of Engineers are dealing with a prospective dead zone created by the escaping methane within a 200mile radius from the Deepwater Horizon disaster. In addition, Madsen reports, Corexit 9500, the oil dispersant used by BP, is viewed by FEMA sources as mixing with evaporated water from the Gulf. This deadly mixture is then absorbed by rain clouds and produces toxic precipitation that threatens to continue killing marine and land animals, plant life, and humans within a 200-mile radius of the Deepwater Horizon disaster site in the Gulf.
The dead zone created by a combination of methane gas and Corexit toxic rain, Madsen continues, will ultimately result in the evacuation and long-term abandonment of cities and towns within the 200-mile radius of the oil gusher.Plans are being put in place for the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Mandeville, Hammond, Houma, Belle Chase, Chalmette, Slidell, Biloxi, Gulfport, Pensacola, Hattiesburg, Mobile, Bay Minette, Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, Crestview, and Pascagoula, Madsen writes. On June 13, SoCal Martial Law Alerts (SCMLA) predicted that Gulf states would be evacuated. Greg Evensen, a retired Kansas Highway Patrolman, estimates that 30-40 million people would need to be evacuated away from the Gulf’s coastline (i.e. at least 200 miles inland),SCMLA reported. In order to accomplish this gargantuan feat, the federal government (through FEMA and other agencies) would most likely seek first to control and manage the transportation system and then operate relocation centers to manage evacuees. Toward this end, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has already declared the airspace over the oil spill site to be a no-fly zone until further notice. Various sources have indicated that local police, highway patrol, National Guard, US military and foreign troops may be involved in an operation to evacuate the Gulf Coast. In fact, the Governor of Louisiana has already requested evacuation assistance (i.e. National Guard) for his state from the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Madsen’s trusted sources now lend credence to the SCMLA report.DK Matai reports that by some geologists’ estimates, the methane now escaping into the Gulf may have been part of a massive bubble trapped for thousands of years under the sea floor. More than a year ago, geologists expressed alarm in regard to BP and Transocean putting their exploratory rig directly over this massive underground reservoir of methane. Warnings were raised before the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe that the area of seabed chosen might be unstable and inherently dangerous, writes Matai.Matai and others fear the methane — under intense pressure (experts estimate the pressure to be between 30,000 and 70,000 pounds per square inch) — may form a bubble that would then rupture the seabed and erupt with an explosion. The bubble is likely to explode upwards propelled by more than 50,000 psi of pressure, bursting through the cracks and fissures of the sea floor, fracturing and rupturing miles of ocean bottom with a single extreme explosion,Matai explains. If the toxic gas bubble explodes, it might simultaneously set off a tsunami traveling at a high speed of hundreds of miles per hour. Florida might be most exposed to the fury of a tsunami wave. The entire Gulf coastline would be vulnerable, if the tsunami is manifest. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and southern region of Georgia might experience the effects of the tsunami according to some sources.
Private contractors went house-to-house confiscating weapons after Hurriance Katrina. In is not certain the federal government is concerned about the prospect of a tsunami. However, if Madsen’s sources are correct, they are concerned about the release of deadly hydrogen sulfide, benzene, methylene chloride, and the prospect of toxic rain.A mass evacuation of the Gulf states would be impossible without a declaration of martial law. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the government all but declared martial law in New Orleans and the southern Gulf Coast — it was deemed a state of emergency, not officially martial law — and this gave rise to the largest military mobilization since the so-called Civil War. Combat-equipped troops and private contractors went house-to-house to enforce the complete removal of the civilian population in New Orleans and also confiscate guns and leave residents defenseless. Moreover, FEMA imposed iron-grip censorship of the media. On September 7, 2005, MSNBC’s Brian Williams reported that the city had reached a near-saturation level of military and law enforcement.Williams and his crew were ordered to stop taking photographs by gun-toting National Guard troops. Williams said he experienced the palpable feeling that this area is somehow separate from the United States. Indeed, if Florida and the Gulf states are evacuated as predicted — and again, Madsen’s sources are usually impeccable — a large part of the country will be separated from the United States and placed under martial law.
Storm threatens to disrupt BP oil-siphoning By Kristen Hays – Fri Jun 25, 2:04 pm ET
HOUSTON (Reuters) – With a storm threatening to disrupt oil-siphoning efforts at BP Plc's blown-out Gulf of Mexico well, the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday said collection efforts would be suspended five days before the forecast onset of gale-force winds.A tropical disturbance over the western Caribbean could deal a big setback to efforts by BP to contain oil gushing from the well, estimated by the U.S. government at up to 60,000 barrels (2.5 million gallons/9.5 million liters) per day.Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, the U.S. government's point man on the oil spill, said it would be necessary five days before gale force winds are forecast to arrive to take down operations involving ships and other equipment siphoning some of the oil spewing from BP's ruptured deep-sea well.During this period, the oil could flow unchecked from the ruptured well into the sea for up to 14 days, Allen said. The U.S. National Weather Service defines gale force winds as 39 mph to 54 mph. When referring to gale force winds, Allen mentioned about 40 knots, which is 46 mph.Our threshold to begin taking action is 120 hours before gale force winds are forecasted, Allen said.
Two oil-capture systems siphon oil from the leak to a drillship and a service rig a mile above the well at the water's surface. Both use fixed pipes that require days to disconnect and allow the vessels to move out of the path of a storm, officials have said. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the tropical disturbance over the western Caribbean Sea continued to strengthen, and has a high 70 percent chance of developing into a tropical depression over the next two days. Some forecast models predict it will go into the central or eastern Gulf of Mexico, where BP is struggling to plug the leak.
In other spill-related developments:
- BP said the first of two relief wells intended to permanently plug the leak had been drilled to 11,275 feet below the seabed, or less than 2,000 feet from the bottom of the leaking well.
BP would have to suspend any relief well drilling efforts about four days and eight hours before the forecast onset of gale-force winds, Allen said.
- BP said its siphoning systems collected or burned off 23,725 barrels of oil on Thursday. That's about 12 percent less than its record 27,100-barrel capture total on Tuesday. The containment cap system channeling oil to the drillship is continuing to ramp up after a 10-hour shutdown to fix a problem from Wednesday, BP said.
- Electromagnetic sensors placed in the relief well have detected the location of the blown-out well, but BP said it would need more precise readings from the sensors before boring into the ruptured well as part of the operation to plug it.(Editing by Will Dunham)
