So here we have an executive who illegally legislates and single-handedly takes the nation to war. Obviously there are bigger constitutional issues here than the form of his birth certificate.
The release of the birth certificate unfortunately trumped media coverage of the historic first-ever press conference held by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Usually he testifies before congressional hearings and I, as a congressman ask him questions, but on Wednesday, he spoke before the press and took questions from reporters. Other central banks do this kind of thing all the time, but for the Fed, this was a first and a sign that they are feeling pushback from the people about what they are doing to our money. Of course, nothing of any real substance was said, so it was a hollow, if interesting gesture on the part of the Fed.The Fed will never voluntarily give up the information we need to know about what they’ve been doing. The Fed spent the money – so what happened to it? We need to keep the pressure on and demand a full audit of the Federal Reserve.

It wasn’t bin Laden’s son, Khalid, who was murdered by the Navy SEALs, but son Hamza.Carney blamed the changed story on the fog of war.But there was no firefight, so where did the fog of war come from? The White House has also had to abandon the story that President Obama and his national security team watched tensely as events unfolded in real time (despite the White House having released photos of the team watching tensely), with the operation conveyed into the White House by cameras on the SEALs helmets. If Obama was watching the event as it happened, he would have noticed, one would hope, that there was no firefight and, thus, would not have told the public that bin Laden was killed in a firefight. As the purpose of the war was to get bin Laden, success in this objective allows the US to withdraw without loss of face, thus making it possible to reduce the US budget deficit by several hundred billion dollars annually – an easy way to have a major spending cut.

At best, the photos were cynically misrepresented by the White House and the mainstream media, at worst, they were completely staged to add a contrived dramatic spin to the unfolding wall-to-wall press coverage of the Bin Laden fable, which is becoming more convoluted with each passing day.The key image that clearly indicates the photos were staged is the shot of Hillary Clinton with her hand over her mouth. Clinton looks shocked as if she has witnessed something disturbing, obviously implying that she is watching a live shootout or someone being assassinated, when in fact she saw nothing of the kind because the feed was cut before the SEALS entered the compound. The White House was careful to not describe this image as representing the moments during which the SEALS stormed the building, but the implication was clear, and the establishment media did the work for them, reporting that the picture depicted Obama and Clinton, watching intently as the raid takes place,” another total falsehood.Former top spymaster Dr. Steve R. While the photo that ran on many newspapers and websites the next morning appeared as if it were taken during Obama’s address to the nation the night before, it was actually the result of an elaborate post-speech production, reports the International Business Times.As President Obama continued his nine-minute address in front of just one main network camera, the photographers were held outside the room by staff and asked to remain completely silent, Reuters photographer Jason Reed explained in his blog.Once Obama was off the air, we were escorted in front of that teleprompter and the President then re-enacted the walk-out and first 30 seconds of the statement for us.The staging of the Obama speech photo is embarrassing, but the staging of the situation room photos, which were heavily promoted by the establishment media, falsely presented as evidence that Obama, Biden and Clinton saw the assassination of Osama live, and used by the White House to lend credence to the fairytale they were busily scripting, are damning.We truly have entered the theater of the absurd when, even as the narrative of the Bin Laden fable crashes and burns, the establishment media that helped manufacture this work of fiction are still claiming that anyone who even questions the blaring inconsistencies of the official account are merely conspiracy theorists engaging in black helicopter fantasies.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy will now be able to address the United Nations no differently from US President Barack Obama, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez or Russia's Dimitri Medvedev.In order to win the vote, the EU had to agree to changes to the global organisation that transforms the UN from an assembly of nation states into a body that also offers representation rights to regional blocs as well, including potentially the African Union, the Arab League and the South American Union.The EU on Tuesday was given almost all the rights in the global chamber that fully-fledged states enjoy after the General Assembly backed 180 to two a resolution giving the bloc, which until this week only maintained observer status at the UN, the union the right to speak, the right to make proposals and submit amendments, the right of reply, the right to raise points of order and the right to circulate documents.There will also be additional seats put in the chamber for the EU's foreign policy chief, High Representative Catherine Ashton and her officials.Ashton and her team have lobbied heavily over the last six months, according to her representatives, with a major offensive in the last 48 hours by the high representative herself in New York, to push through the changes after the EU was dealt a surprise defeat last September when other regional blocs voted against a similar resolution.She declared herself delighted at the win, which, she said: "will in future enable EU representatives to present and promote the EU's positions in the UN.

Advisor to Abbas: Hamas Has No Need to Recognize Israel

An aide to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is set to sign a unity pact with Hamas on Wednesday, says the terrorist organization does not have to recognize Israel because Jerusalem does not recognize Hamas.Nabil Saath told Voice of Israel government radio Wednesday morning that Quartet demands that Hamas renounce violence and recognize Israel are unfair, unworkable and do not make sense. The Quartet is comprised of the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia.Concerning Hamas terrorist attacks, Naath reasoned that it is enough for the Quartet to know that Hamas will refrain from violence. The Gaza terrorist organization announced Tuesday at a preliminary signing of a unity agreement with Fatah that it will uphold a ceasefire with Israel. Dozens of announced ceasefires in the past have not lasted more than several weeks, if that long.Hamas hammered home the contradiction of its joining a unity government with Abbas, who is promoted by the West as a peace partner with Israel, by insisting it will never recognize Israel so long as it occupies land claimed by the Palestinian Authority.The definition of Palestine is questionable because the Palestinian Authority, while telling the West that it wants to live side by side with Israel, continues to disseminate maps in Arabic showing its proposed state to include all of Israel, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River and from the Lebanese border to Egypt in the south.
Separately, the Palestinian Authority stated Wednesday that it will stop all terrorist attacks on Israel. Officials did not explain how the PA security forces could prevent rocket and patrol road bombings originating in Gaza. Hamas staged a terrorist coup there four years ago, ousting Abbas’ Fatah-led faction from the region and in effect creating a separate Palestinian Authority besides the one based in Ramallah.The proposed unity pact calls for the Hamas army to be integrated into the new Fatah army, trained by American generals at a US-funded military base in Jericho.The unity agreement, despite Hamas’s hard-line stance and condemnation of the elimination of Osama Bin Laden, indicates that Abbas’s strategy is to promote unity at all costs. He apparently is banking on his drive to gain United Nations recognition of the Palestinian Authority as a new Arab country, based on all of the conditions in the 2002 plan proposed by Saudi Arabia.The 2002 initiative would result in Israel returning to what were supposed to be temporary Armistice Lines in 1949 and are erroneously called 1967 borders by the media, by ceding all of the land restored to the Jewish State in the Six-Day War in 1967, including the Old City in Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. These are indefensible borders, leaving Israel only several kilometers wide at Netanya. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Some EU countries are open-minded about working with the new Palestinian unity government despite the fact Hamas advocates armed resistance against Israel.Rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas are to sign the unity agreement in Cairo on Wednesday (4 May).A Fatah-linked Palestinian diplomat told this website last week the deal includes renouncing the use of violence against Israel. But speaking to EUobserver from Gaza on the eve of the Cairo ceremony, Gaza spokesman Ghazi Hamad said this is not the case.Hamad said the unity pact will focus on internal Palestinian problems, such as Gaza reconstruction, while leaving the Arab-Israeli conflict to one side. He noted that Hamas is becoming more moderate, but said there is no question of altering its official 1988 charter, which calls for the obliteration of Israel.Palestine is still under occupation and we will use all means necessary to liberate our people. If things can be solved by non-violence, we have no problem with that. But until now we have no reason to trust Israel or to believe that Israel is willing to end the occupation, he said.People talk about the Quartet conditions and the rights of the Israelis all the time. But they forget about the rights of the Palestinians. We are the victims here, he added. The Quartet's - the EU, Russia, the UN and the US - official position is that Hamas must renounce violence before being invited to talks.
Israeli diplomats are urging the EU to boycott the unity government on its existing terms. We're not asking for the world. Just for them to renounce violence. In European eyes, it should be more than natural to ask for that,an Israeli diplomat said. Meanwhile, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's statement on Tuesday denouncing the US killing of Osama Bin Laden did nothing to help the group's image in Brussels.
When asked if there is a prospect of the EU removing Hamas from its register of terrorist entities, a senior EU official said:With Haniyeh yesterday criticising the killing of Bin Laden there isn't going to be anyone arguing for taking them off the list.EU diplomats are waiting to see what the Fatah-Hamas unity document says in detail and who the new government appoints before taking a formal position at a foreign ministers' meeting on 23 May. Friends of Israel inside the union, such as the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, are against any flexibility on the Hamas charter.But an EU source noted that several other countries - including France, Spain and the UK - are more open on the issue. The contact pointed to EU foreign relations chief Catherine Ashton's cautious statement on the unity pact last week, recalling that Palestinian diplomats at the time remarked:You were the only ones who didn't condemn this agreement.A diplomat from a Nordic EU country added:It's important that we are not being negative. Khalid Turaani, a Palestinian activist with the Brussels-based group Inform, said it is unrealistic to expect Hamas to scrap its charter as a prerequisite for talks.

Haniyeh used the words muijahid Arabi which was reported as Arab holy warrior but means simply Arab fighter.Hamas in Gaza is battling a Salafist [Islamic extremist] movement which is gaining some traction. I disagree with it, but I think that's part of the reason he made the Bin Laden statement - to prevent the Salafists from exploiting Bin Laden's death.

Like the official story on the attacks of September 11, 2001, the story on the supposed murder of Osama bin Laden is a work in progress.Obama’s cronies now say Osama was unarmed when he was cut down. Initially it was reported that the Evil One had fired an automatic weapon at attacking Navy Seals and so they had no choice but to double-tap him in the head. It was also said he had cowered behind the skirt of his wife and she was also killed. Both accounts turn out to be pure fantasy.
Carney backtracks — an hour of dissimulation and lies.The corporate media characterizes the on-the-fly story modifications as an embarrassing climb-down for Obama. Jay Carney told the Mockingbird corporate media that the tall tales came from the chief US counter-terrorism adviser, John Brennan, who put out the pablum with great haste.We provided a great deal of information with great haste in order to inform you about the operation. Some of the information is being reviewed and updated, said Carney. In short, the fairy tale is a work in progress.Elements met with skepticism will be pulled and more plausible and easily digestible lies inserted as the story moves through an on-the-fly editorial process. Discarded parts will be shuffled off to the memory hole. In the near future, the discarded parts will be dismissed as cynical conspiracy theories even though they appear on the pages of the New York Times and the crown jewel of Operation Mockingbird, the Washington Post. The elimination of arch-terrorist Osama Bin Laden is of course a blessed event for the entire world – but the removal of Bin Laden from the ranks of Al Qaeda terrorists has in no way reduced the threat from that group, or any other terror group – quite the opposite, says Prof. Eitan Gilboa of Bar-Ilan University's Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies.The elimination of Bin Laden by the U.S. has increased the motivation of Al Qaeda to conduct a high-profile attack, which is what they specialize in,says Gilboa,preferably in the U.S. or Europe.Of course, that assumes that Al Qaeda is still capable of carrying out such attacks.We have to remember that even though Bin Laden managed to survive for nearly a decade after 9/11, the U.S. has been looking for him and many other Al Qaeda terrorists since at least 1993 – after the failed first attack on the World Trade Center. During that time, and especially since 9/11, Al Qaeda's ability to conduct high-profile attacks has been significantly compromised, because the Americans have been picking off the organization's leadership little by little.Gilboa compares the Al Qaeda threats of revenge to those of Hizbullah, which for three years has vowed revenge on Israel for the death of top terrorist Imad Mughniyah.Israel never admitted that it had taken out Mughniyah, who was responsible for many terror attacks. Nevertheless they blame Israel and have vowed revenge – but so far, thank G-d, they have not undertaken the major attack they promise.Of course they would like to carry out such an attack, but apparently they are unable to – and it remains to be seen if this is the situation with Al Qaeda. Bin Laden's organization is much bigger than Hizbullah and still has several strong branches – notably in North Africa.
An Al Qaeda affiliated group was behind the attack at a coffee shop in Marrakesh, Morocco last week, as well as in Sudan, Yemen, and other countries.In addition, the defenses in Egypt and other countries have lightened, in the wake of the civil uprisings there, Gilboa added.That means it will be easier for Al Qaeda to infiltrate those places and cause mayhem.Obviously, the terrorist group would prefer to carry out an attack in the West, says Gilboa, but if conducting a terror attack in an friendly Arab country is their only option, they – or a sympathetic group that also wishes to make a name for itself – will take that opportunity, he adds.
While Israel and Jewish targets around the world are also on Al Qaeda's short list of terrorist targets, a perhaps more immediate concern is the pressure Israel is likely to face to come up with a new peace plan.U.S. President Barack Obama is now on a roll, and he will want to keep the momentum going,says Gilboa.The U.S. is just as concerned as Israel about the threats by the PA to take their case for statehood to the UN in September, and Washington is looking to Netanyahu to come up with a substantive plan to convince the PA to back down from that plan. There's no question Obama will be tougher on Israel.However, in line with the old saying by President Shimon Peres – that the Palestinians never lose an opportunity to lose an opportunity - Gilboa says that the American pressure may be somewhat mitigated by the planned reunification of Fatah and Hamas.This caught the U.S. by surprise as well, and they are not happy about it,he says. Although, as far as Washington is concerned, Al-Qaeda and Hamas are in two completely different leagues when it comes to terror, It would be very embarrassing for President Obama to have to work with an organization that condemns his greatest achievement, as Hamas did when it slammed Obama for murdering the martyr Bin Laden.On the other hand, the deal between Fatah and Hamas may fall apart,he says. The mythology surrounding America’s public enemy number one took yet another bizarre turn this week as Washington announced that after ten years of searching they have finally located and killed their illusive adversary, Osama bin Laden. Unfortunately for US authorities however, this latest staged media event has created far more questions than it has answers.Indeed, The Washington Post did report Monday that bin Laden, the long-hunted al-Qaeda leader and alleged chief architect of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was in fact killed on Sunday in what officials described as a Navy Seal-run surgical raid on his alleged luxury hideout in Pakistan.In a rare Sunday night address from the East Room of the White House, President Obama announced that small team of U.S. personnel attacked a compound in Pakistan’s Abbottabad Valley, where bin Laden is said to have been hiding. During a firefight, the U.S. team allegedly killed bin Laden, 54, and then took custody of his body. President Obama described the event as the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al-Qaeda, and seen as a significant turning point for global security and the War on Terror.According to US sources, this latest operation was made possible thanks to a trail of evidence that originated from Al-Qaeda detainees, which had led to the careful monitoring of a compound suspected to be Osama bin Laden’s Pakistani hiding place. This is an interesting statement planted by Washington into this story, as it will no doubt be used by authorities to justify the existence of Guantanamo Bay and similar gulag-like cites around the world- all of whose credibility in the area of gathering real terror intel has been rather poor to date.
Public confusion over body ID
Bin Laden’s body was then allegedly recovered by the U.S. military and kept in its possession until it was dumped at sea hours later. From here, the story begins to get very dicey. Both ABC News and the Associated Press have reported that the body has been identified by DNA testing using tissue and blood samples taken from his sister who died of brain cancer previously. However, Reuters reports that DNA test results will not actually be available for days still, and that his body was identified using facial recognition techniques.

Confusion, not conclusion, will be the order of the day. It is likely that this tactic was an intentional one on the part of Washington, providing pundits and conspiracy theorists with an endless knot that will take decades to unravel.
Numerous past reports of bin Laden’s death
Since 2001, numerous reports and statements have been made confirming the death of bin Laden. Infowars chronicled a list of these incidents recently, reporting the following:Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks.In 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said bin Laden had kidney disease, and that he had required a dialysis machine when he lived in Afghanistan. That same year, the FBI’s top counter-terrorism official, Dale Watson, said,I personally think he is probably not with us any more.A Taliban leader told the Pakistan Observer on December 21, 2002, that Bin Laden was suffering from a serious lung complication and died in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief, according to Fox News.
Alex Jones was told live on the radio in 2002 by high-level Council on Foreign Relations members that Osama Bin Laden had died of kidney failure in early 2002.“I have it from high level [sources] from inside the Bush administration…that bin Laden died of natural causes and that his family has given the body to the CIA, that they’re gonna roll him out right before the election, that he’s on ice right now. They will claim they killed him right before the election,” Alex said at the time. During the 2004 election, CNN reported that Democratic insiders had been told that George W. Bush was going to use the Bin Laden body as an ace-in-the-hole if he thought he was in danger of losing the 2004 election. This confirmed the evidence that Jones had been given by the CFR and others.
In 2003, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Fox News Channel analyst Morton Kondracke she suspected Bush knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden and was waiting for the most politically expedient moment to announce his capture.
Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007, stated that Osama bin Laden had been killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.

For a public who has been trained to live in a perpetual state of fear, the alleged death of Bin Laden translates into a brief respite and opportunity to celebrate followed by yet another increase in the security apparatus.The result of this latest chapter in the Bin Laden saga has been an elevation in Terror Threat Levels. In near robotic fashion, all major news outlets are running identical talking points centred on authorities in Western countries who are advising vigilance against possible Al Qaeda strikes in retaliation to the death of Osama Bin Laden.Authorities are also advising that people avoid travel to areas where anti-western protests may erupt and also to avoid public gathering that might attract a revenge attack.RT: Questions are raised about the media’s reporting of latest bin Laden death.It wasn’t long ago that Wikileaks files were cited where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told Guantanamo Bay interrogators the terror group would detonate the nuclear device if the al-Qaeda chief was captured or killed. The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks is said to have warned that al-Qaeda has hidden a nuclear bomb somewhere in Europe which will unleash a nuclear hell storm if Osama bin Laden was ever captured.
Obama: A timely announcement
Broadcasters and pollsters will tell you that Sunday evening is the very best time to plant a story because most Americans are home, preparing to face another work week, and the largest percentage of Americans watch TV on Sunday evening. When President Obama finally made his statement about how he had located bin Laden and killed him in a firefight, the President proceeded to take no reporter questions.
Obama’s bin Laden moment: the President bolsters his wartime resume this week.The timing of this announcement certainly carries a high political value for a US administration soon entering a new Presidential election cycle in 2012. It could help to reposition a domestically unpopular President Obama as a competent military operator overseas.Obama outlined this epic chain of events during his Sunday address stating, Shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.The President then certified his War on Terror and military credentials explaining how he gave the order to kill, And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
In the world of modern US politics, the patriot card is the ace which can be produced during any speech or Presidential debate. Obama has clearly positioned himself as the man who will take credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden. The ten year anniversary for Sept 11, 2001 will take place this fall and it is certain that Obama will rehash this week’s glorious assassination from a podium at Ground Zero. Obama’s wartime resume will also be bolstered by this week’s event, a tool he will likely employ in the Democrat effort to effectively stave off any challengers from the Republican Party’s right wing next year.
Another state-sponsored assassination
In the wake of the infamous Iraqi WMD debacle and with tax payer confidence in the abilities of US Intelligence community at an all-time low, this latest announcement will be used by Washington to demonstrate that their agencies are indeed competent and can actually produce valid and actionable intel. In effect, Washington will use its latest campaign to wipe the old slate clean and build on this apparent victory, possibly with some future intel concerning prospective adversaries like Iran.This latest state-sponsored assassination also re-enforces the precedent of targeting foreign leaders outside of the boundaries of legal justice. Currently the US and NATO are carrying out a series of targeted extrajudicial killings in Libya, an effort that has already claimed the lives of Gaddafi’s immediate family and one which hopes to eventually eliminate Gaddafi himself.Both unusual and illegal as this may appear on its surface, the Western public has now become accustomed to seeing its governments carry out these high level state mafia-style hits, a rather bizarre trend for evolved Western civilisation. It goes without saying that in almost all of these cases, each of these high-profile victims could not be successfully brought in front of any real court of justice due to an acute lack of evidence against them. They amount to purely political targets who unfortunately will be denied the luxury of any proper investigation into the West’s charges against them.
A shift in focus towards new enemies
Amongst all the hype and revelry, it still seems rather implausible that Osama bin Laden has “been on the run” for nearly a decade. Authorities would like us to believe that it took the entire US military industrial complex 10 years to both locate and kill Osama Bin Laden, their sworn public enemy number one. What is more plausible is that this particular moment in time has in fact been chosen and the event has been staged and later choreographed for mass media consumption.Once the feel-good factor, public traction and the brief heightened state of alert has been spent, Washington and its NATO allies will be turning their sights further down field.Most significant, is that this new announcement could very well be signalling a shift in US and NATO war plans, gradually moving focus away from the War on Terror and repositioning US public angst towards a cadre of new nation-state enemy players. With both occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan still on the burner, US imperial aspirations overseas are already at near breaking point. Polls and historical trends also show that American voters will not likely want to switch their leadership during a hot military conflict, so we can expect that an expansion of ground troops could occur in Libya, or that a brand new operation could be launched as early as next spring 2012. On top of US and NATO agendas for prospective conflicts are clearly Libya (currently in progress), Iran and possibly Syria. Grey County Warden Arlene Wright said she has no plans to stop opening council meetings with the Lord's Prayer, despite a citizen's request.There's no next step, Wright said in an interview. A brief exchange followed in which Ferguson pressed Wright about what she planned to do now, then he left.Wright said in March she had no intention of changing the practice of starting Grey County council meetings with the Lord's Prayer unless someone raises it.Wright said Tuesday she meant it would be dealt with through county council and that was done.Wright said Ferguson's letter was presented April 12 at the appropriate county committee, finance and personnel, where Ferguson also appeared.The committee recommendation to note and file his letter, contained in the meeting minutes, was approved by county council Tuesday without comment.Wright said in the interview any of the councillors could have presented a motion to take the matter further and none did. Nothing was raised so it's done, it's over.Asked if she had checked with a lawyer to see whether opening council with a prayer is legally problematic, Wright replied: No but we figure if it's good enough for the provincial government to do in the morning and it's good enough for the federal government to do in the morning, then it's good enough for us.Ferguson said after the meeting it's as illegal to say prayers at council as it is in Parliament and he won't let the matter rest here. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Portugal's caretaker administration has reached an agreement with the troika of the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund for a three-year €78 billion bail-out.Prime Minister Jose Socrates made the announcement via televised address after three weeks of negotiations with officials from the international lenders.In return for the loan, Lisbon has had to agree to austerity measures similar to those rejected by parliament last month, which precipitated the downfall of Socrates' centre-left minority government and caused snap elections.The deal will include cuts to pensions, but the minimum wage, health care and schools will be unaffected, according to local media reports. The retirement age will also remain the same.
Crucially, the deal wins a longer period to reach its deficit reduction targets than had previously been envisaged.Portugal must cut its deficit to 5.9 percent of GDP by the end of 2011, then down to 4.5 percent in 2012 and three percent in 2013. The government's earlier schedule committed to cutting the deficit to 4.6 percent this year, to three percent in 2012 and to two percent in 2013.It is unclear whether the agreement will include support for the country's banks.Socrates declared the package a good, but demanding deal. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy will now be able to address the United Nations no differently from US President Barack Obama, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez or Russia's Dimitri Medvedev.In order to win the vote, the EU had to agree to changes to the global organisation that transforms the UN from an assembly of nation states into a body that also offers representation rights to regional blocs as well, including potentially the African Union, the Arab League and the South American Union.The EU on Tuesday was given almost all the rights in the global chamber that fully-fledged states enjoy after the General Assembly backed 180 to two a resolution giving the bloc, which until this week only maintained observer status at the UN, the union the right to speak, the right to make proposals and submit amendments, the right of reply, the right to raise points of order and the right to circulate documents.There will also be additional seats put in the chamber for the EU's foreign policy chief, High Representative Catherine Ashton and her officials.Ashton and her team have lobbied heavily over the last six months, according to her representatives, with a major offensive in the last 48 hours by the high representative herself in New York, to push through the changes after the EU was dealt a surprise defeat last September when other regional blocs voted against a similar resolution.She declared herself delighted at the win, which, she said: "will in future enable EU representatives to present and promote the EU's positions in the UN.

Advisor to Abbas: Hamas Has No Need to Recognize Israel

An aide to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, who is set to sign a unity pact with Hamas on Wednesday, says the terrorist organization does not have to recognize Israel because Jerusalem does not recognize Hamas.Nabil Saath told Voice of Israel government radio Wednesday morning that Quartet demands that Hamas renounce violence and recognize Israel are unfair, unworkable and do not make sense. The Quartet is comprised of the United States, the United Nations, the European Union and Russia.Concerning Hamas terrorist attacks, Naath reasoned that it is enough for the Quartet to know that Hamas will refrain from violence. The Gaza terrorist organization announced Tuesday at a preliminary signing of a unity agreement with Fatah that it will uphold a ceasefire with Israel. Dozens of announced ceasefires in the past have not lasted more than several weeks, if that long.Hamas hammered home the contradiction of its joining a unity government with Abbas, who is promoted by the West as a peace partner with Israel, by insisting it will never recognize Israel so long as it occupies land claimed by the Palestinian Authority.The definition of Palestine is questionable because the Palestinian Authority, while telling the West that it wants to live side by side with Israel, continues to disseminate maps in Arabic showing its proposed state to include all of Israel, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River and from the Lebanese border to Egypt in the south.
Separately, the Palestinian Authority stated Wednesday that it will stop all terrorist attacks on Israel. Officials did not explain how the PA security forces could prevent rocket and patrol road bombings originating in Gaza. Hamas staged a terrorist coup there four years ago, ousting Abbas’ Fatah-led faction from the region and in effect creating a separate Palestinian Authority besides the one based in Ramallah.The proposed unity pact calls for the Hamas army to be integrated into the new Fatah army, trained by American generals at a US-funded military base in Jericho.The unity agreement, despite Hamas’s hard-line stance and condemnation of the elimination of Osama Bin Laden, indicates that Abbas’s strategy is to promote unity at all costs. He apparently is banking on his drive to gain United Nations recognition of the Palestinian Authority as a new Arab country, based on all of the conditions in the 2002 plan proposed by Saudi Arabia.The 2002 initiative would result in Israel returning to what were supposed to be temporary Armistice Lines in 1949 and are erroneously called 1967 borders by the media, by ceding all of the land restored to the Jewish State in the Six-Day War in 1967, including the Old City in Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. These are indefensible borders, leaving Israel only several kilometers wide at Netanya. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Some EU countries are open-minded about working with the new Palestinian unity government despite the fact Hamas advocates armed resistance against Israel.Rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas are to sign the unity agreement in Cairo on Wednesday (4 May).A Fatah-linked Palestinian diplomat told this website last week the deal includes renouncing the use of violence against Israel. But speaking to EUobserver from Gaza on the eve of the Cairo ceremony, Gaza spokesman Ghazi Hamad said this is not the case.Hamad said the unity pact will focus on internal Palestinian problems, such as Gaza reconstruction, while leaving the Arab-Israeli conflict to one side. He noted that Hamas is becoming more moderate, but said there is no question of altering its official 1988 charter, which calls for the obliteration of Israel.Palestine is still under occupation and we will use all means necessary to liberate our people. If things can be solved by non-violence, we have no problem with that. Like the official story on the attacks of September 11, 2001, the story on the supposed murder of Osama bin Laden is a work in progress.Obama’s cronies now say Osama was unarmed when he was cut down. Initially it was reported that the Evil One had fired an automatic weapon at attacking Navy Seals and so they had no choice but to double-tap him in the head. It was also said he had cowered behind the skirt of his wife and she was also killed. Both accounts turn out to be pure fantasy.
Carney backtracks — an hour of dissimulation and lies.The corporate media characterizes the on-the-fly story modifications as an embarrassing climb-down for Obama. Jay Carney told the Mockingbird corporate media that the tall tales came from the chief US counter-terrorism adviser, John Brennan, who put out the pablum with great haste.We provided a great deal of information with great haste in order to inform you about the operation. Some of the information is being reviewed and updated, said Carney. In short, the fairy tale is a work in progress.Elements met with skepticism will be pulled and more plausible and easily digestible lies inserted as the story moves through an on-the-fly editorial process. Discarded parts will be shuffled off to the memory hole. In the near future, the discarded parts will be dismissed as cynical conspiracy theories even though they appear on the pages of the New York Times and the crown jewel of Operation Mockingbird, the Washington Post. The elimination of arch-terrorist Osama Bin Laden is of course a blessed event for the entire world – but the removal of Bin Laden from the ranks of Al Qaeda terrorists has in no way reduced the threat from that group, or any other terror group – quite the opposite, says Prof. Eitan Gilboa of Bar-Ilan University's Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies.The elimination of Bin Laden by the U.S. has increased the motivation of Al Qaeda to conduct a high-profile attack, which is what they specialize in,says Gilboa,preferably in the U.S. or Europe.Of course, that assumes that Al Qaeda is still capable of carrying out such attacks.We have to remember that even though Bin Laden managed to survive for nearly a decade after 9/11, the U.S. has been looking for him and many other Al Qaeda terrorists since at least 1993 – after the failed first attack on the World Trade Center. During that time, and especially since 9/11, Al Qaeda's ability to conduct high-profile attacks has been significantly compromised, because the Americans have been picking off the organization's leadership little by little.Gilboa compares the Al Qaeda threats of revenge to those of Hizbullah, which for three years has vowed revenge on Israel for the death of top terrorist Imad Mughniyah.Israel never admitted that it had taken out Mughniyah, who was responsible for many terror attacks. Nevertheless they blame Israel and have vowed revenge – but so far, thank G-d, they have not undertaken the major attack they promise.Of course they would like to carry out such an attack, but apparently they are unable to – and it remains to be seen if this is the situation with Al Qaeda. Bin Laden's organization is much bigger than Hizbullah and still has several strong branches – notably in North Africa.
An Al Qaeda affiliated group was behind the attack at a coffee shop in Marrakesh, Morocco last week, as well as in Sudan, Yemen, and other countries.In addition, the defenses in Egypt and other countries have lightened, in the wake of the civil uprisings there, Gilboa added.That means it will be easier for Al Qaeda to infiltrate those places and cause mayhem.Obviously, the terrorist group would prefer to carry out an attack in the West, says Gilboa, but if conducting a terror attack in an friendly Arab country is their only option, they – or a sympathetic group that also wishes to make a name for itself – will take that opportunity, he adds.
While Israel and Jewish targets around the world are also on Al Qaeda's short list of terrorist targets, a perhaps more immediate concern is the pressure Israel is likely to face to come up with a new peace plan.U.S. President Barack Obama is now on a roll, and he will want to keep the momentum going,says Gilboa.The U.S. is just as concerned as Israel about the threats by the PA to take their case for statehood to the UN in September, and Washington is looking to Netanyahu to come up with a substantive plan to convince the PA to back down from that plan. There's no question Obama will be tougher on Israel.However, in line with the old saying by President Shimon Peres – that the Palestinians never lose an opportunity to lose an opportunity - Gilboa says that the American pressure may be somewhat mitigated by the planned reunification of Fatah and Hamas.This caught the U.S. by surprise as well, and they are not happy about it,he says. Although, as far as Washington is concerned, Al-Qaeda and Hamas are in two completely different leagues when it comes to terror, It would be very embarrassing for President Obama to have to work with an organization that condemns his greatest achievement, as Hamas did when it slammed Obama for murdering the martyr Bin Laden.On the other hand, the deal between Fatah and Hamas may fall apart,he says. There are too many unknown factors – but if things do work out between the two groups, and Hamas gets a major representation in the PA-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria, the U.S. will be less likely to put strong pressure on Israel.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

The mythology surrounding America’s public enemy number one took yet another bizarre turn this week as Washington announced that after ten years of searching they have finally located and killed their illusive adversary, Osama bin Laden. Unfortunately for US authorities however, this latest staged media event has created far more questions than it has answers.Indeed, The Washington Post did report Monday that bin Laden, the long-hunted al-Qaeda leader and alleged chief architect of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, was in fact killed on Sunday in what officials described as a Navy Seal-run surgical raid on his alleged luxury hideout in Pakistan.In a rare Sunday night address from the East Room of the White House, President Obama announced that small team of U.S. personnel attacked a compound in Pakistan’s Abbottabad Valley, where bin Laden is said to have been hiding. During a firefight, the U.S. team allegedly killed bin Laden, 54, and then took custody of his body. President Obama described the event as the most significant achievement to date in our nation’s effort to defeat al-Qaeda, and seen as a significant turning point for global security and the War on Terror.According to US sources, this latest operation was made possible thanks to a trail of evidence that originated from Al-Qaeda detainees, which had led to the careful monitoring of a compound suspected to be Osama bin Laden’s Pakistani hiding place. This is an interesting statement planted by Washington into this story, as it will no doubt be used by authorities to justify the existence of Guantanamo Bay and similar gulag-like cites around the world- all of whose credibility in the area of gathering real terror intel has been rather poor to date.
Public confusion over body ID
Bin Laden’s body was then allegedly recovered by the U.S. military and kept in its possession until it was dumped at sea hours later. From here, the story begins to get very dicey. Both ABC News and the Associated Press have reported that the body has been identified by DNA testing using tissue and blood samples taken from his sister who died of brain cancer previously. However, Reuters reports that DNA test results will not actually be available for days still, and that his body was identified using facial recognition techniques.

Numerous past reports of bin Laden’s death
Since 2001, numerous reports and statements have been made confirming the death of bin Laden. Infowars chronicled a list of these incidents recently, reporting the following:Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks.In 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said bin Laden had kidney disease, and that he had required a dialysis machine when he lived in Afghanistan. That same year, the FBI’s top counter-terrorism official, Dale Watson, said,I personally think he is probably not with us any more.A Taliban leader told the Pakistan Observer on December 21, 2002, that Bin Laden was suffering from a serious lung complication and died in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief, according to Fox News.
Alex Jones was told live on the radio in 2002 by high-level Council on Foreign Relations members that Osama Bin Laden had died of kidney failure in early 2002.“I have it from high level [sources] from inside the Bush administration…that bin Laden died of natural causes and that his family has given the body to the CIA, that they’re gonna roll him out right before the election, that he’s on ice right now. They will claim they killed him right before the election,” Alex said at the time. During the 2004 election, CNN reported that Democratic insiders had been told that George W. Bush was going to use the Bin Laden body as an ace-in-the-hole if he thought he was in danger of losing the 2004 election. This confirmed the evidence that Jones had been given by the CFR and others.
In 2003, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Fox News Channel analyst Morton Kondracke she suspected Bush knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden and was waiting for the most politically expedient moment to announce his capture.
Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007, stated that Osama bin Laden had been killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.

In near robotic fashion, all major news outlets are running identical talking points centred on authorities in Western countries who are advising vigilance against possible Al Qaeda strikes in retaliation to the death of Osama Bin Laden.Authorities are also advising that people avoid travel to areas where anti-western protests may erupt and also to avoid public gathering that might attract a revenge attack.RT: Questions are raised about the media’s reporting of latest bin Laden death.It wasn’t long ago that Wikileaks files were cited where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed told Guantanamo Bay interrogators the terror group would detonate the nuclear device if the al-Qaeda chief was captured or killed. The alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks is said to have warned that al-Qaeda has hidden a nuclear bomb somewhere in Europe which will unleash a nuclear hell storm if Osama bin Laden was ever captured.
Obama: A timely announcement
Broadcasters and pollsters will tell you that Sunday evening is the very best time to plant a story because most Americans are home, preparing to face another work week, and the largest percentage of Americans watch TV on Sunday evening. When President Obama finally made his statement about how he had located bin Laden and killed him in a firefight, the President proceeded to take no reporter questions.
Obama’s bin Laden moment: the President bolsters his wartime resume this week.The timing of this announcement certainly carries a high political value for a US administration soon entering a new Presidential election cycle in 2012. It could help to reposition a domestically unpopular President Obama as a competent military operator overseas.Obama outlined this epic chain of events during his Sunday address stating, Shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.The President then certified his War on Terror and military credentials explaining how he gave the order to kill, And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction, the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
In the world of modern US politics, the patriot card is the ace which can be produced during any speech or Presidential debate. Obama has clearly positioned himself as the man who will take credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden. The ten year anniversary for Sept 11, 2001 will take place this fall and it is certain that Obama will rehash this week’s glorious assassination from a podium at Ground Zero. Obama’s wartime resume will also be bolstered by this week’s event, a tool he will likely employ in the Democrat effort to effectively stave off any challengers from the Republican Party’s right wing next year.
Another state-sponsored assassination
In the wake of the infamous Iraqi WMD debacle and with tax payer confidence in the abilities of US Intelligence community at an all-time low, this latest announcement will be used by Washington to demonstrate that their agencies are indeed competent and can actually produce valid and actionable intel. In effect, Washington will use its latest campaign to wipe the old slate clean and build on this apparent victory, possibly with some future intel concerning prospective adversaries like Iran.This latest state-sponsored assassination also re-enforces the precedent of targeting foreign leaders outside of the boundaries of legal justice. Currently the US and NATO are carrying out a series of targeted extrajudicial killings in Libya, an effort that has already claimed the lives of Gaddafi’s immediate family and one which hopes to eventually eliminate Gaddafi himself.Both unusual and illegal as this may appear on its surface, the Western public has now become accustomed to seeing its governments carry out these high level state mafia-style hits, a rather bizarre trend for evolved Western civilisation. It goes without saying that in almost all of these cases, each of these high-profile victims could not be successfully brought in front of any real court of justice due to an acute lack of evidence against them. They amount to purely political targets who unfortunately will be denied the luxury of any proper investigation into the West’s charges against them.
A shift in focus towards new enemies
Amongst all the hype and revelry, it still seems rather implausible that Osama bin Laden has “been on the run” for nearly a decade. Authorities would like us to believe that it took the entire US military industrial complex 10 years to both locate and kill Osama Bin Laden, their sworn public enemy number one. What is more plausible is that this particular moment in time has in fact been chosen and the event has been staged and later choreographed for mass media consumption.Once the feel-good factor, public traction and the brief heightened state of alert has been spent, Washington and its NATO allies will be turning their sights further down field.Most significant, is that this new announcement could very well be signalling a shift in US and NATO war plans, gradually moving focus away from the War on Terror and repositioning US public angst towards a cadre of new nation-state enemy players. With both occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan still on the burner, US imperial aspirations overseas are already at near breaking point. Polls and historical trends also show that American voters will not likely want to switch their leadership during a hot military conflict, so we can expect that an expansion of ground troops could occur in Libya, or that a brand new operation could be launched as early as next spring 2012. On top of US and NATO agendas for prospective conflicts are clearly Libya (currently in progress), Iran and possibly Syria. Any one of these potential conflicts will require solid backing from the US public in order to ensure their launch and longevity.Mark Twain could not have scripted a better ending for this, the season finale of Osama On the Run. As events unfold in the coming months, educated members of the public will be able to better piece together the real behind significance of Sunday’s announcement and read the long-range foreign policy game plan of the US, Israel and their NATO allies. No plans to stop prayer despite citizen’s request

Grey County Warden Arlene Wright said she has no plans to stop opening council meetings with the Lord's Prayer, despite a citizen's request.There's no next step, Wright said in an interview. We dealt with it.Peter Ferguson addressed council Tuesday during a period reserved for public presentations. He requested county council to stop reciting religious prayers. He made the same plea by letter earlier.
Wright opened the meeting with an invitation for those assembled to join in the Lord's Prayer or take a moment for silent reflection, her traditional opening remarks, she said.Ferguson stood with hands in pockets and head up while some recited the prayer and others stood silently with bowed heads.During his remarks which harkened nostalgically back to his time as a choir boy, Ferguson said he was confirmed in the Anglican church but grew to conclude its tenets made no objective sense.Since then he has sought a world view that is rational.He said he's not yet a believer.He ended with a softly spoken injunction to the council to Be Christian by treating everyone with scrupulous equality.After a long pause, Wright asked Is that it?
A brief exchange followed in which Ferguson pressed Wright about what she planned to do now, then he left.Wright said in March she had no intention of changing the practice of starting Grey County council meetings with the Lord's Prayer unless someone raises it.Wright said Tuesday she meant it would be dealt with through county council and that was done.Wright said Ferguson's letter was presented April 12 at the appropriate county committee, finance and personnel, where Ferguson also appeared.The committee recommendation to note and file his letter, contained in the meeting minutes, was approved by county council Tuesday without comment.Wright said in the interview any of the councillors could have presented a motion to take the matter further and none did. Nothing was raised so it's done, it's over.Asked if she had checked with a lawyer to see whether opening council with a prayer is legally problematic, Wright replied: No but we figure if it's good enough for the provincial government to do in the morning and it's good enough for the federal government to do in the morning, then it's good enough for us.Ferguson said after the meeting it's as illegal to say prayers at council as it is in Parliament and he won't let the matter rest here. He wouldn't be specific about his next step.Aside from being warden, Wright is a long-serving member of Owen Sound council. Last month, a majority on council voted for newly elected Coun. Lisbon, troika agree details of €78bn bail-out

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Portugal's caretaker administration has reached an agreement with the troika of the European Commission, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund for a three-year €78 billion bail-out.Prime Minister Jose Socrates made the announcement via televised address after three weeks of negotiations with officials from the international lenders.In return for the loan, Lisbon has had to agree to austerity measures similar to those rejected by parliament last month, which precipitated the downfall of Socrates' centre-left minority government and caused snap elections.The deal will include cuts to pensions, but the minimum wage, health care and schools will be unaffected, according to local media reports. The retirement age will also remain the same.
Crucially, the deal wins a longer period to reach its deficit reduction targets than had previously been envisaged.Portugal must cut its deficit to 5.9 percent of GDP by the end of 2011, then down to 4.5 percent in 2012 and three percent in 2013. The government's earlier schedule committed to cutting the deficit to 4.6 percent this year, to three percent in 2012 and to two percent in 2013.It is unclear whether the agreement will include support for the country's banks.Socrates declared the package a good, but demanding deal. The government has reached a good agreement that defends Portugal,he said.Naturally, there are no financial assistance programs that are not demanding, he continued.The times we live in continue to imply efforts and a lot of work.He also said that further pay cuts in the public sector had been ruled out.
Opposition parties have yet to sign off on the deal, however.The commission and the ECB have insisted that centrist partiesmust back any agreement even though they are in the middle of an election campaign, so that they can be held to its terms whatever the make-up of the future government.The opposition Social Democrats - political conservatives despite their name - have said they are ready to meet with the troika to consider the package.However, the latest polls suggest that neither the Socialists of Socrates nor the Social Democrats can win an outright majority, so that the make-up of the new parliament may be little different to the assmebly as it stood befeore th snap vote.
