Two earthquakes rock east Indonesia, no casualties Sun Mar 18, 2:03 AM ET

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Two earthquakes hit eastern Indonesian regions on Sunday, but there were no reports of casualties or damage, a meteorological official said. A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck Papua province at 11:24 a.m. (0224 GMT), said an official at the National Meteorology and Geophysics Agency. It was centered 147 km (91 miles) northwest of the provincial capital, Jayapura, at a depth of 78 km, the official said.Earlier, a 5.9 magnitude quake jolted Ternate on the Moluccas islands, at 02.42 a.m. (1742 GMT). The undersea quake had a depth of 57 km and was centered some 126 km northwest of Ternate.Earthquakes are frequent in Indonesia, the world's fourth most populous country. Its 17,000 islands sprawl along a belt of intense volcanic and seismic activity, part of what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Late winter storm hits Atlantic Canada, U.S. East Coast
Saturday, March 17, 2007 | 8:05 PM ET CBC News

A late winter storm swept in from New England across parts of Quebec and Eastern Canada on Saturday, bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain.Heavy snow was making roads in Montreal treacherous.Up to 25 centimetres of snow was expected in Fredericton, N.B., and the forecast was for about 15 centimetres in Halifax and Yarmouth, N.S.The snow will turn into rain later in the day, forecasters say. Fredericton could receive up to 50 millimetres of rain over a 24-hour period, while Halifax could get up to 30 millimetres. The storm system has forced hundreds of flight cancellations in the northeastern United States, from Washington, D.C., to Boston.

New York City has received 15 centimetres of snow and sleet.Parts of Pennsylvania were expecting up to 30 centimetres and New Jersey and upstate New York were to receive at least that much. The weather is blamed in at least eight traffic deaths — five in New Jersey and three in Pennsylvania.North of the border, Trudeau International Airport in Montreal has cancelled some of its flights to the northeastern U.S., and some regional flights. There are similar delays at Toronto's Pearson and Halifax's Stanfield international airports.

N.Y. storm strands passengers in planes By DAVID B. CARUSO and JENNIFER PELTZ, Associated Press Writers Sun Mar 18.

NEW YORK - Hundreds of passengers were stranded for hours overnight on airliners that couldn't take off from John F. Kennedy International Airport because of the ice and snow storm that pummeled the Northeast. The exact number of planes stuck on the tarmac was unclear, but irate passengers reported that the problems affected several airlines. Pilots and officials blamed some of the problems on a shortage of deicing fluid and a new federal regulation giving pilots a narrow window to get their planes in the air once the chemicals are applied. The change has meant some jets need to get doused repeatedly if their takeoffs are delayed.Rahul Chandran said he was trapped aboard a Cathay Pacific Airways jet from midnight until nearly 9:30 a.m. Saturday, when the flight to Vancouver was finally canceled.

Throughout the night, the pilot repeatedly described problems with deicing equipment, including a lack of fluid, that kept the plane waiting endlessly to have its wings sprayed. When the airline finally gave up and tried to return the plane to its terminal, it took at least another hour to arrange a gate, he said. You can't keep your passengers on the plane for 9 1/2 hours, said Chandran, 30, of New York City. They kept saying 'half an hour more, 45 minutes more. But by the time it got to hour six, we were pretty much accepting that we weren't going to go ... At least in the terminal, you can get up and walk around. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the metropolitan area's airports, said airlines not the airport are responsible for supplying and maintaining terminal deicing equipment.

Port Authority aviation director Bill DeCota said airport operators and the carriers need to collectively work out a solution quickly to what is evolving as a major problem with deicing.Just last month, JetBlue stranded passengers on several planes for up to 10 1/2 hours during a similar storm. At the time, the airline said its inability to get planes deiced in accordance with the new FAA rules was a factor. We and the carriers need to sit down and find out whether there is anything we can do, DeCota said. I know there are a lot of irate passengers, and they have a right to be.Other airlines that reported problems included South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines, the charter company Miami Air and Royal Air Maroc, the national airline of Morocco. Royal Air Maroc kept one plane full of passengers on the tarmac for nearly 14 hours, DeCota said. Two Virgin Atlantic flights — one diverted from Boston — also were kept at a standstill for hours, spokeswoman Brooke Lawer said. One flight sat from 9:45 p.m. until 4 a.m., when it was canceled.I know that deicing was a significant factor, Lawer said. From Friday to Saturday morning, more than 3,600 commuter and mainline flights were canceled nationwide because of the effects of the storm. JetBlue, US Airways, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines all reported cancellations.

For this storm, JetBlue took no chances of a repeat of last month's problems. It canceled about 400 of 550 of all scheduled flights across the country Friday because of the weather, rather than risk leaving more people stuck aboard idle planes. JetBlue expected mostly normal operations Saturday, said spokeswoman Jenny Dervin.Friday's snow, ice and rain storm closed schools in parts of the Northeast and made highways treacherous. The weather was blamed for nearly a dozen traffic deaths in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.(A previous version of this story incorrectly spelled the last name of Port Authority aviation director. It is DeCota, not DeCosta.)

Earth has warmest December-February on record by Veronica Smith
Fri Mar 16, 9:41 AM ET

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The Earth has experienced its warmest December-February since records began 128 years ago, a US agency said in a report which has added fire to global warming concerns.

A record warm January worldwide pushed average temperatures to 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit (0.72 degrees Celsius) above normal for the 20th century, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.It was the highest average temperature for the period since records began in 1880, the NOAA, said in its report released on Thursday.A UN panel said last month that global warming was almost certainly caused by human activity and several governments and international bodies have sounded the alarm over the need to cut carbon emissions.

Europe has had its hottest winter on record and European experts say the spring and summer are also likely to be the warmest ever. The El Nino phenomenon, a periodic warming of surface ocean waters in the eastern Pacific, contributed to the chart-busting combined global land and ocean surface temperature, the NOAA said. But in February ocean temperatures in the central equatorial Pacific cooled more than 0.5 degrees F/0.3 degrees C and were near average for the month.Nevertheless, the ocean-surface temperature in the period tied for second warmest on record, the agency said, just 0.1 degree Fahrenheit (0.06 degrees Celsius) cooler than the record established during the very strong El Nino episode of 1997-1998.The NOAA scientists pointed to a steady rise in temperatures in recent decades.

During the past century, global surface temperatures have increased at a rate near 0.11 degrees F (0.06 degrees C) per decade. But the rate of increase has been three times larger since 1976, or 0.32 degrees F (0.18 degrees C) per decade, with some of the largest temperature increases occurring in the high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, they said. For the United States alone, the December 2006-February 2007 winter season had an overall temperature that was close to average, while December was the 11th warmest on record. The UN's Intergovernment Panel on Climate Change said last month that human activity was almost certain to blame for global warming and warned that the Earth's average surface temperature could rise between 1.1 and 6.4 degrees C by 2100.Fossil fuel pollution will raise temperatures this century, worsen floods, droughts and hurricanes, melt polar ice and damage the climate system for a thousand years to come, the UN's top panel on climate change said.

Experts say that if global warming trends continue, up to a third of the world's highest glaciers could melt away by 2050 and half will disappear by 2090.The new sense of urgency comes with the Kyoto treaty, the world's first serious attempt to combat the problem, set to expire in 2012.US President George W. Bush refused to adopt Kyoto, which excluded China, India and other big emerging economies. The NOAA, an agency of the US Commerce Department, said it was working with its federal partners, more than 60 countries and the European Commission to develop a global monitoring network that is as integrated as the planet it observes, predicts and protects.Climatologists and weather forecasters across Europe have warned that record warm weather is likely to continue through the spring. The average temperature for the three months of spring (March, April, May) will be above normal, said French climatologist Michel Schneider, though he did not rule out the possibility of a cold snap or two.

Italian volcano off Sicily erupts Fri Mar 16, 9:22 AM ET

ROME - The volcano on the tiny Sicilian island of Stromboli erupted in a shower of small stones and ash, but it posed no danger to the few hundred people living nearby, authorities said Friday. The eruption late Thursday was the latest activity from Stromboli, located 40 miles north of Sicily. The volcano is noted for its frequent, minor eruptions and attracts tourists eager to see the flow of lava inching down its side. It is the northernmost of seven islands in the Aeolian archipelago north of Sicily.Last month, the volcano spewed a substantial amount of lava into the sea, prompting authorities to warn islanders about the risk of a small tsunami.

In spring 2003, Stromboli sent hardened lava raining down on some of the settlements nestled in the folds of the island's green slopes. A few chunks crashed into houses. In 2002, Stromboli experienced a rare effusive eruption an outpouring of lava without an explosion, its first in 17 years. A few days later, landslides tumbled down an uninhabited slope, crashing into the sea and setting off a tsunami.
Stromboli is not the only active volcano in southern Italy, with Mount Etna in Sicily coming to life every few months.

Olmert pans Palestinian peace talks By JOSEF FEDERMAN, Associated Press Writer MAR 18,07

JERUSALEM - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Sunday ruled out peace talks with the Palestinians, saying contacts will be limited to humanitarian issues until the new coalition government explicitly renounces violence and recognizes Israel's right to exist. Speaking at the weekly meeting of his Cabinet, Olmert said he would boycott the new government and urged the international community to follow suit. The Cabinet overwhelmingly endorsed Olmert's position. The rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah installed their new unity government on Saturday, hoping the alliance will end months of infighting and persuade the international community to lift a year of economic sanctions.

Israeli officials fear the new government will cause the tough international stance against the Palestinians to crumble. Israel and the U.S. on Sunday ruled out a resumption of financial transfers to the Palestinians. But Norway announced it would lift sanctions, and Britain and the U.N. also signaled flexibility.

While the coalition's platform is more moderate than that of the previous Hamas-led government, Olmert said it fell short of international demands to renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept past peace deals. He also noted its affirmation of the right to resistance. This is a government that does not accept the conditions of the international community and sees terror as a legitimate goal, Olmert told his Cabinet.Olmert said he would maintain contact with the moderate Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, who was elected separately and is not a member of the coalition government. But Olmert said the discussions would be limited to quality of life issues for Palestinians. The Cabinet endorsed Olmert's position 19-2, Israeli radio stations reported. The new Palestinian administration replaced a year-old government led by Hamas, the Islamic militant group that has killed dozens of Israelis in suicide bombings. It capped months of negotiations — interrupted by bursts of violence that killed more than 140 Palestinians — between Hamas and Fatah.

Hamas' rise to power last year provoked Western donor nations to cut off aid to the Palestinians. Israel also has withheld hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes it collects for the Palestinians. The sanctions have devastated the Palestinian economy.Finance Minister Salam Fayyad warned Saturday that the new government would not be able to function for long unless the boycott is lifted and financial aid is increased. At Saturday's parliamentary swearing-in ceremony, Palestinian leaders sent mixed messages about their dealings with Israel. But in sum, they appeared to show a softening of Hamas' stance.Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, spokeswoman for the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem, said Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas had missed an opportunity to accept the international conditions and make the Palestinians a partner for peace. But in a break from the Israelis, she said the U.S. would likely maintain contact with non-Hamas members of the government.

The new Palestinian alliance appears to implicitly recognize Israel by calling for a Palestinian state on lands the Israelis captured in 1967, in contrast with Hamas' past calls to eliminate Israel altogether.

It also pledges to respect previous agreements with Israel and authorizes Abbas to conduct future peace talks. Any future deal would be submitted to a national referendum, suggesting Hamas would not hold veto power.Abbas, who has repeatedly condemned violence and called for peace talks with Israel, has said the deal is the best he can get from Hamas and was needed to avert Palestinian civil war.We hope the world community, especially the U.S. and Israel, will deal with this government, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, a top aide to Abbas, said Sunday. This is the only opportunity for peace and stability so far.Presenting the government's program to parliament Saturday, Haniyeh said the alliance would work first and foremost to establish an independent Palestinian state, with disputed Jerusalem as its capital, on lands Israel occupied in the 1967 Mideast War.

He said the Palestinians maintained the right to resist occupation, but would also seek to widen a truce with Israel, now limited to the Gaza Strip. On Sunday, however, Hamas issued a statement saying the government platform "is totally different than the program of the Hamas movement. We call on the national unity government to support the choice of resistance against the occupation, the statement said. In addition to the struggle for international legitimacy, the Palestinian alliance also is in danger of crumbling quickly over ideological differences, and long-standing enmities between the two factions and their legions of gunmen. Abbas on Sunday named a Gaza strongman known for leading a crackdown on Hamas militants a decade ago as his national security adviser, presidential aides said.
The appointment puts Mohammed Dahlan, a top official in Abbas' Fatah party, in a sensitive position as Palestinian leaders try to reform their myriad and competing security services. Hamas still has rocky relations with Dahlan.

Bird flu spreads in northern Nigeria's main city MAR 18,07

KANO, Nigeria (AFP) - The deadly H5N1 bird flu virus is spreading among poultry farms around northern Nigeria's largest city, Kano, despite control measures, a senior veterinary official said on Sunday. The avian influenza virus is still spreading among poultry farms and it has so far affected 33 farms in seven districts, Shehu Bawa, head of Kano State's Committee on Avian Flu, told AFP.
More than 80,000 birds have been culled in Kano, Bawa added.Further measures taken to check the outbreak include controls on movement of poultry and people, disinfecting farm workers and visitors, fencing off farms, and a ban on borrowing of farm implements from them.Nigeria, the continent's most populous nation with some 140 million people, early this year reported west Africa's first human bird flu death.A 22-year-old woman died in Lagos on January 17 weeks after plucking and disembowelling a chicken.Bird flu was first detected on a farm in Jaji town outside the northern city of Kano in February last year from where it spread to other parts of Nigeria.Kano, northern Nigeria's most populous city, was worst affected by the flu outbreak which ravaged 97 farms in the city resulting in the death or culling of at least 300,000 birds, officials said.Three more northern states -- Katsina, Sokoto and Bauchi -- have recorded a resurgence of bird flu since it resurfaced in Kano.

Feiglin Highlights Israel's Jewish Identity Problem
This article originally appeared in The Jewish Press on March 18, 2007
by Elliot Resnick, Jewish Press Staff Reporter

When he becomes prime minister, says Moshe Feiglin, he will destroy the terrorist regimes in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza; annex those areas to Israel; demolish the security fence; ensure that every Israeli child receives one hour of Jewish education every day; and demand that the United States release Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.Speaking to friends and supporters of Manhigut Yehudit at the Sands in Atlantic Beach last Monday, Feiglin, the organization’s founder and a Jewish Press columnist, highlighted what he called Israel’s Jewish identity problem. He told the audience that 60 percent of IDF inductees have never visited Jerusalem and that a majority of Israeli schoolchildren cannot finish the sentence Shema Yisrael.Manhigut Yehudit’s fifth annual dinner drew some 300 friends and supporters. The evening’s theme, as in past years, was: Turning the State of the Jews into the Jewish State, the organization’s motto.Manhigut Yehudit, as a faction within the Likud party in Israel, hopes to take over the party (and through it, the whole country) by convincing like-minded individuals to become members of Likud and vote (alongside old-time Likud members) for Manhigut Yehudit leaders in the party’s various internal elections.

Formed in 1998, Manhigut Yehudit (the name means "Jewish Leadership") has recruited 13,000 people to Likud so far. In the 2005 primaries for the leadership of Likud, Feiglin finished in third place behind Benjamin Netanyahu and Silvan Shalom, with 13 percent of the vote.In a power point presentation at the dinner, Manhigut Yehudit international director and co-founder Shmuel Sackett demonstrated that a mere 13,000 votes separated Feiglin from Netanyahu in the last Likud primary. Sackett said that polls predict Likud would receive 29 seats, as opposed to 12 for Kadima, if an election were held today. Manhigut Yehudit provides a great amount of hope, Rabbi David Algaze of Cong. Havurat Yisroel in Forset Hills told The Jewish Press. Rabbi Algaze recited a prayer for the three recently captured Israeli soldiers at the dinner.

Asked why he likes Feiglin, Jewish singer Ira Heller, who sang The Star Spangled Banner and Hatikvah at the dinner, said, It’s a long list, but the bottom line is emunah [faith in God], because what is missing in every politician, no matter how talented, is emunah.Rob and Laurence Muchnick were the guests of honor at the dinner; Yishai and Malka Fleisher received a Lev Yehudi Award; Esther Weber received an Eishet Chayil Awrad; Jack and Ana Berger received an Eretz Yisroel Award; and ZOA president Morton Klein was suprised with an award for his outspoken support of the Jewish people.

A Chat With Moshe Feiglin. The Jewish Press: How many years will it be until Manhigut Yehudit is running the state of Israel? Feiglin: I’m not a prophet. But I believe we’re talking about months or years, not decades. If you were prime minister, how would you have responded to the murder of Erez Levanon [who was killed by Arab terrorists last week]? The killer did not act on his own. He was a soldier who acted out of nationalistic reasons and is a hero among his people. It is not a question of crime; it’s a question of war. The village where he came from should be punished. War is collective.

How would you handle Iran? There’s a very simple rule in the Gemara: One who comes to kill you, arise and kill him first. I think that every individual who declares that he wishes to destroy Israel and is preparing for it, should be killed. What are you hoping Manhigut Yehudit will accomplish in the next election? Anything above 20 percent in the primaries for head of Likud will be very nice. I also think we will be able to get two members of Manhigut Yehudit in the Knesset. However, this is not the target. The target is to win. What will you do if Manhigut Yehudit is banned? Manhigut Yehudit is about an idea. They cannot do what they did to Kahane, ban the whole party, because there isn’t any party. However, it’s important to understand that the Likud is only a tool. So if it will not be through Likud, it will be in a different way.I don’t think that G-d brought us back to the land of Israel for the third time as some sort of bad joke, and if Israel does not become a Jewish state, it will no longer be a state at all. So if the door will be closed, we’ll get in through the window, and if both will be closed, we’ll break a hole in the wall or break the whole wall. God will not give us a challenge that we cannot deal with.Manhigut Yehudit is the largest faction inside the Likud party, and strives to Turn the State of the Jews into The Jewish State.

This Week with Rabbi Eckstein March 18, 2007

Dear Friend of The Fellowship,

Things seem relatively calm in Israel at the moment—especially in comparison to last summer's Hezbollah-Israel war and the horrors of the second Palestinian intifada. But as I walk around Jerusalem, or travel around Israel to visit Fellowship-sponsored projects, I notice a feeling of uneasiness among people in the Holy Land. And, unfortunately, news reports show that there is good reason for this feeling.Since the ceasefire with Hezbollah was declared last August, this terrorist group has wasted no time in rearming and regrouping. Recent reports have shown an increased presence of Hezbollah fighters and missile installations in southern Lebanon, suggesting that Hezbollah is positioning itself to again attack Israel. In fact, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has admitted publicly, we openly declare that we have weapons, that we are completing our preparedness for a greater and more dangerous stage.

Meanwhile, despite their failure to live up to any previous ceasefire agreements, Hamas has extended yet another offer to Israel. This time the terrorist group claims it will end attacks on Israel if Israel recognizes the Hamas-Fatah government called for by last month's Mecca Agreement. But clearly, Hamas' offers are hollow. At the same time it is talking ceasefire, Hamas is working to turn Gaza into a fortified camp capable of launching even deadlier rocket attacks against Israel, and of resisting any further attempts by the Israel Defense Forces to enter the area to root out terrorists. Hamas leaders, too, continue their harsh, hateful anti-Israel rhetoric, vowing this week, "We will not betray promises we made to God to continue the path of Jihad and resistance until the liberation of Palestine, all of Palestine"—meaning, of course, the destruction of Israel.Indeed, hudna, the Arab word commonly translated as ceasefire, refers to a temporary halt to hostilities—a measure taken in the hope of winning a decisive victory over one's enemies in the future. There is every reason to believe that these ceasefires are merely opportunities for Hezbollah and Hamas to gather their strength to strike at Israel again in the future.

We are committed to keeping you informed of the seriousness of the situation Israel faces. And we hope today you will help spread the word by forwarding this message to a friend and encouraging them to sign up for our e-newsletter. In this way we can widen Israel's circle of friends, and let more and more people know the truth about Israel's struggle for peace and security.I thank you, my friend, for your continued support of Israel. Now, more than ever, I ask you to continue your prayers for the peace of Jerusalem.

With prayers for shalom, peace,
Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

Here we GO the EU is getting heavily into RFID IMPLANTABLE CHIPS, They will be the ones that Impliment the MARK OF THE BEAST SYSTEM IN THE FUTURE On the WORLD.

EU Working Towards RFID Standards John Blau, IDG News Service
Sun Mar 18, 12:00 PM ET

The European Commission has formed a group to provide it with advice about RFID (radio frequency identification), which it aims to avoid regulating, according to the commissioner in charge of that area. The potential growth of the RFID market is huge, Information Society and Media Commissioner Viviane Reding told reporters Thursday at the Cebit trade show in Hanover, Germany. She estimated that the European RFID market will grow from €500 million (US$660 million) in 2006 to €7 billion by 2016. We're strong in wireless, mobility and chip manufacturing, and we must develop this for RFID, she said. But the commissioner also warned that industry must pay greater attention to security and privacy issues. We must make industry aware that the Internet of things must be an Internet for people. To that end, Reding announced the creation of an RFID stakeholder group, including representatives from industry and consumer groups. The group will provide advice to the Commission, which plans by the middle of this year to propose amendments to the e-Piracy Directive taking account of RFID applications. Also, later in the year, the Commission intends to publish recommendations for member states on how to handle data security and privacy issues affected by the use of RFID.

Reding stressed her intention to avoid a top-down approach, or overregulation, which could stymie RFID development. She pointed to many benefits of smart-tag technology, including billions of euros that companies can save through greater efficiency. The Commissioner is working closely with government officials in the U.S., China, Japan and Korea to promote RFID international standards.

We totally support the efforts of the Commission to bring all the various stakeholders together and, in particular, to help push for global RFID standards, said Antonia Voerste, a spokeswoman for German retailer Metro AG, one of the largest users of smart-tag technology in the country. "RFID is very much a global issue.

EU mulls Berlin Declaration
Time for Brussels to come out of arrogance and become transparent Commission TURKEY
Author: (Tito) Tejinder Singh - 17 March 2007 - Issue : 721

Jose Manuel Durao Barroso (L), Chairman of the European Commission, flanked by Jacques Delors, delivers a speech in front of portraits of their predecessors during the inauguration of a pictures gallery at the entrance of the EU Commission Headquarters, June 14, 2005* The Berlin Declaration, the much-talked about ambitious statement to commemorate the Rome Treaty will be a litmus test for not only the German Presidency under the able leadership of Chancellor Angela Merkel but also other European institutions. Today’s Europe is a citizens’ Europe, as was evident when the non to the European Constitutional Treaty by the French people was followed three days later by the Dutch nee consolidating the idea that democracy is alive and kicking in Europe. Interesting to note that initially the notion of churning out a European constitution by the old “wise men” of Europe and the talk of a United States of Europe did not stir any kind of anti-EU feelings in the countries which are supposed to be the driving forces behind the European integration process. Europeans have been striving for a united Europe but it is clear they believe in unity in diversity and want to keep the democratic principles underlying the unification process. The Treaty of Rome (1957) declared a common European market as a European objective with the aim of increasing economic prosperity and contributing to an ever-closer union among peoples of Europe. Later, the Single European Act (1986) and the Treaty on European Union (1992) introduced the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and laid the foundations for the single currency which was given the name Euro by the European Council in Madrid in December 1995. From the time the Maastricht Treaty launched Europe on the road to a unified currency, till the colourful bank notes with their landscapes and monuments finally came into peoples’ pockets, there was always a school of thought coming out with overly overt and oracular statements about the doomsday of Euro.

With the successful launch of Euro, cheerful acceptance of the common currency by millions of Europeans and now the settling down of Euro on the international markets did prove all these negate predictions were nothing but an otiose exercise. And then came another historic moment as 10 new member states (Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia , Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia) joined the European Union at a European summit on June 20-21, 2003 at Athens, Greece. The founding fathers of the concept had not acknowledged explicitly but the ultimate purpose of a unified currency was to move Europe towards a long-run goal of political union and EMU has proven a potent political symbol of uniting a continent ravaged by sanguinary schisms over the centuries. The present day politicians got overenthusiastic and the result is for all to see. Moreover, transparency and authenticity of the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, has been nose-diving for quite some years. When the Delors Commission resigned en masse instead of facing the music in the European Parliament, the Prodi Commission took over declaring to bring transparency and root out corruption and nepotism. But, at the end of its term, the Prodi Commission never could look into the eyes of the European citizens and declare a successful end to the campaign to bring some sort of transparency in the modus operandi of the Commission. Instead, the Prodi Commission left behind terms like Eurostat scandal, Athens International Airport … where did millions go? and How safe are Whistleblowers?

Then came the Barroso Commission, which got dogged down from the start with fallout from statements from its members even before they took office, was aptly grilled by the European Parliament. After the inauspicious beginning, the Commission had to readjust, replace and reshuffle its members to get the nod from the Parliament which happens to be the only democratically-elected European institution. Without foresight and with arrogance, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso bragged about not bowing down to public pressure and kept defending the Union’s determination to liberalise Europe’s services sector, thus slashing the French support for the European constitution from more than 60 percent until mid-March of the year to a negative verdict at the end of May. The non campaigners fanned the fears of the French workers that they could be competing for domestic jobs with “new” member state citizens. Adding fuel to the fire was the media coverage of a small French company’s decision to lay off nine of its workers but saying they could keep their jobs if they worked for the firm’s subsidiary in Romania, at 110 Euro a month, or one-tenth of their French salaries. On the other hand, the Dutch used the referendum to protest what they view as Euro-triggered inflation and the Netherlands’ status as a key contributor to the EU budget. The vote was seen in the Netherlands not only as a rejection of a European superstate, but also as a protest against discussions over Turkish membership in the union.

One of the six founding members of the European Union, the Netherlands had always been seen as staunchly in favour of the Union but the increasing Muslim population and the murder of a famous filmmaker for his views on the treatment of Muslim women in Islamic society made the Dutch reject the treaty by 62 to 38 percent following that of the French, who voted against the EU constitution by a margin of 55 to 45 percent. While Turkey can sit back and mull its own future, there is no doubt that Europeans will continue to integrate with the Western Balkans if they can keep on track with economic reforms, refining of social structures and strengthening of democratic institutions. Europe needs depth in integration and not a superficial opaque powerhouse superstate based in the cloudy environs of Brussels. The architects of Berlin Declaration and the new wise men and women contemplating the launch of refined Constitution Treaty will do well to observe the warning signs that Europe must listen to its Vox Populi.

This WEEK in the European Union
16.03.2007 - 17:29 CET | By Honor Mahony

EUOBERVER / WEEKLY AGENDA (19 - 25 March) - The EU's 50th birthday falls on Sunday 25 March this week with preparations on how to celebrate it, and minute speculation about what exactly will be in the official birthday declaration to mark the occasion, set to dominate the coming days. The date marks the signing of the Treaty of Rome the precursor to the modern-day European Union. The day itself is to be marked by celebrations across the 27-nation bloc with Berlin - due to the German EU presidency - to be the centre-point of the festivities.EU leaders will arrive in Berlin on Saturday evening for a dinner and concert. Sunday morning will see the official ceremony marking the anniversary of the Rome Treaty and according to the provisional time plan, Chancellor Angela Merkel would like to have the whole thing wrapped up by 2pm CET when the final press point conference is scheduled.

However, the run-up to it is unlikely to be entirely without controversy. A state-of-the-union declaration being drawn up by Berlin to mark the occasion is the focus of some keen interest with governments lining up over the past months to say what should or should not be in it. For its part, Berlin has been playing its cards close to its chest, giving only an indication of the general layout of the document. A gathering of 200 young people will meet in Rome for a youth summit mirroring its older - and perhaps less idealistic - counterpart in the German capital. It begins on Friday and is set to produce its own declaration summing up the EU as they see it. In Brussels on Wednesday, the EU's transparency commissioner Siim Kallas is to publish a long-awaited paper on making lobbyist activities around the EU less opaque. He is set to propose a register for lobbyists which would get them to lay out who they are presenting and how they are funded. But according to previous statements by Mr Kallas, lobbyists - running to several thousand in Brussels - will not be required to register. The central issue of interest will be the funding question. Mr Kallas has said he would like more funding transparency but pro-transparency organisations such as Corporate Europe Observatory say this will require obligations with either strong incentives for compliance or sanctions for non-compliance.

Meanwhile, commissioners will also have a general discussion on the European economy. In the European Parliament the German presidency will on Tuesday outline to members of the civil liberties committee how it expects the so-called Prum Treaty to work with DNA-sharing and cross-border police hot pursuits, some of its biggest elements. The EU's plans for setting up a global satellite navigation system - known as a Galileo - will come under scrutiny on Thursday when the bloc's transport ministers meet in Brussels. Germany has promised to raise the issue, with the commission last week raising concerns about the long delays in setting the system up.

The Bible clearly says Pestilences would occur, which is Chemical and Biological weapons being used in these last days.

PESTILENCES (CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS USED)

LUKE 21:11
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Chlorine bombs poison hundreds in Iraq By Waleed Ibrahim
Sat Mar 17, 11:43 AM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Insurgents in western Iraq set off three chlorine gas car bombs, U.S. forces said on Saturday, weeks after two similar attacks sparked fears of a new campaign to use unconventional weapons in Iraq. The Friday attacks came a month into a major U.S.-Iraqi security crackdown in Baghdad aimed at stemming sectarian violence that threatens to pitch Iraq into outright civil war.Australia's Prime Minister John Howard, one of Washington's most loyal allies in the war, visited Baghdad on Saturday and told Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki that Australia would keep its troops in Iraq as long as they were needed.Chlorine gas was widely used in World War One but its use in insurgent attacks in Iraq has particular resonance there. Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons on Kurdish areas in the 1980s during the Iran-Iraq war.The U.S. military said two suicide bombers driving dump trucks carrying chlorine made 350 people ill near the town of Falluja on Friday, and another smaller car bomb near Ramadi also released chlorine, though there were few casualties.

The U.S. statement reported two deaths in one of the attacks but hospital sources said earlier eight people were killed and dozens became ill after the two bombings in the Falluja area. Two bombs with chlorine killed eight people earlier this year. It causes severe burns when inhaled and can cause death.

The U.S. military said they discovered an al Qaeda car bomb factory last month near Falluja with chlorine tanks.Anbar, a mainly Sunni Arab province in which Falluja lies, has long been among the most troublesome areas of Iraq for U.S. forces.

HOUSING HIT

Friday's two bombs near Falluja occurred within the space of 40 minutes. In the first, near the town of Amiriya, two Iraqi police were killed and up to 100 Iraqis showed signs of chlorine exposure, with symptoms ranging from minor skin and lung irritation to vomiting, the U.S. statement said.Soon afterwards, a suicide bomber detonated a dump truck carrying a 200-gallon (900-liter) chlorine tank rigged with explosives south of Falluja. Around 250 civilians became ill.Earlier on Friday, another smaller bomb using chlorine detonated at a checkpoint northeast of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, wounding one U.S. soldier and one Iraqi civilian.Hospital sources said one of the Falluja attacks targeted a large housing complex, killing six people including policemen, while the second targeted a tribal leader opposed to al Qaeda.U.S. commanders say a growing number of tribes in Anbar have joined forces to take on al Qaeda, which has hit back with major bombs targeting civilians.Baghdad was relatively quiet on Saturday, but a suicide car bomb in the west of the city killed two people, including one policeman, and wounded five.

There were no reports of further trouble in Sadr City, a Shi'ite militia stronghold where about 2,000 supporters of radical anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr gathered on Friday to demand U.S. forces withdraw. Sadr City, a stronghold of Sadr's Mehdi Army militia, is seen as a crucial test of Maliki's plan to crack down on violence by both Shi'ite militias and Sunni Arab insurgents. SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE (NOT THE WORLD) THE WORLD GOES ON FOREVER.

GENESIS 1:5,14
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:(ISRAELS HOLY DAYS AND SABBATH STARTS AT 6PM) And for SIGNS (PROPHECY SIGNS TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE, OUR DAY)

COLOSSIANS 2:16-17
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

THE SIXTH DAY OF SIVAN (MAY/JUNE)
THE FEAST OF PENTICOST
(A NEW REVELATION OF GODS WILL)

LEVITICUS 23:15-16,21
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

The fourth of the seven required feasts of Israel took place exactly fifty days after the feast of the Firstfruits-hence the name Pentecost, "Penta" meaning fifty. This feast is very significant to Christians as well as to Jews. Pentecost, or Shavuot to the Jews, celebrated the end of the grain harvest, the summer harvest. It is also known as the Zeman Matan Tortenu, the "giving of the Law" to Israel. The
Feast of Pentecost is the second of the three great feasts that all male Jews were required to celebrate at the Temple in Jerusalem every year.

Two Major events took place on the sixth day of Sivan; each one introduced a special time of spiritual stewardship to a specific revelation of God: The Giving of the Ten Commandments and the giving of the Holy Spirit.

1-The Giving of the Ten Commandments.
EXODUS 19:11
11 And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

LEVITICUS 23:22
22 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.

RUTH 1;16
16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

MATTHEW 1:5-6
5 And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;
6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias.

2-The Giving of the Holy Spirit.
ACTS 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

ACTS 2:1,4
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

A Jewish Writer says Enoch was raptured to heaven on this very day of Pentecost, the sixth day of Sivan.
GENESIS 5:24
24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

THE SEVENTEENTH DAY OF TAMMUZ (JUNE/JULY)
THE FAST OF MOURNING

ZECHARIAH 8:19
19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

Each of the four fasts mentioned by the prophet Zechariah were in commemoration of some tragic event connected with the destruction of the Temple, Jerusalem and the independence of Israel when the Babylonian army conquered Israel successively from 606 B.C to 587 B.C. Zechariah promised that, once the Messiah has come to set up his Kingdom, these four tragic fasts will be transformed into feasts of joy and gladness to celebrate the eternal peace and blessings of the Messianic Age. The fast of the fourth - month Tammuz, occured on the seventeenth day of Tammuz (JULY). The fast of
the fifth month - Av occurred on the nineth day of Av (AUGUST).

The next historically important anniversary is not a feast day but rather is a day of fasting and mourning, Nevertheless, this day has been significant in God's dealing with Israel. It is the seventeenth day of Tammuz and occures in the month of July on Our calendar.

The seventeenth day of Tammuz begins a three-wek period of national mourning leading up to the fast of Tisha Be-av, the ninth day of Anv. Three spiritually significant events have happened on the seventeenth day of Tammuz and each involved the breaking of a spiritual symbol which signified that God's disfavor had been incurred as a result of national disobedience. The mourning followed due to the people's consciousness of their sin and their recognition that God's punishment would follow.

1-Moses breaks the Tablets of the Law.
EXODUS 19:18
18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

EXODUS 32:19,26
19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

2-The Babylonians Broke through the Walls of Jerusalem and Caused the Daily Sacrifice to cease.

3-The Roman Army Forces the Cessation of the Daily Sacrifice.

THE NINTH DAY OF AV
A FAST OF MOURNING

ZECHARIAH 7:5
5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

This day of fasting, known as Tisha Be-av, is a day of mourning and rememberence of Israel's loss of their sacred Temple. It is one of the most historically significant anniversaries in the life of their nation and is commemorated by Jews throughout the world as the tragic day when God withdrew His Presence and they wept as their precious Temple burned to the ground.

Throughout Israel's history, the ninth of Av (in our August) has witnessed eight of the greatest disasters in their nations history.

In the future will be a Joyous feast.

1-The twelve spies Return with their report.
NUMBERS 14:1-10,39
1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
3 And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
7 And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

Thus, the ninth of Av became a fast of mourning as Israel wept over their lack of obedience to God and the tragedies which would follow so many times during the next thirty-five centuries.

2-The Destruction of Solomon's Temple by the Babylonians.
JEREMIAH 52:5-14
5 So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.
6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.
11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.
12 Now in the fifth month, in the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, which served the king of Babylon, into Jerusalem,
13 And burned the house of the LORD, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, burned he with fire:
14 And all the army of the Chaldeans, that were with the captain of the guard, brake down all the walls of Jerusalem round about.

LAMENTATIONS 2:7
7 The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary, he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they have made a noise in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn feast.

ZECHARIAH 8:9
9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

3-The Destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans.
LUKE 19:41-44
41 And when he (JESUS) was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

DANIEL 9:26
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

4-The Romans plowed Jerusalem and the temple.
MICAH 3:12 1 YR later this happens
12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

5-The destruction of Bar Kochba's Army.
MATTHEW 24:23-24
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Amoung those false prophets was a dynamic Jewish leader named Simon Bar Kochba. As Jesus predicted, many people, including the famous Jewish scholar Rabbi Akiba, acclaimed him as the "Messiah" Jesus prophesied before his rejection.
JOHN 5:43
43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

In the future sometime Israel will once again be decieved into believing a false Messiah, the future EU DICTATOR will be that final false Messiah, before the true Messiah Jesus returns to Earth Bodily.

6-England Expelled all Jews in A.D 1290 on Av.

7-Spain Expelled all Jews in A.D 1492 on Av.

8-Russia Mobbilized for World War one and Launched Persecutions against the Jews.

The odds that all eight events would occur by chance on the ninth of Av, rather than by God's design, is equal to: 1X365X365X365X365X365X365X365X365 = one chance in 863,078,009,300,000,000 or 1 chance in 863 Zillion.

THE FIRST DAY OF TISHRI (SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER)(ROSH HA'SHANAH)
FEAST OF TRUMPETS

LEVITICUS 23:23:24
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.

The feast of Trumpets occurs on the first of Tishri, in the fall (September/October). As soon as the new moon was sighted in eastern Israel, the watcherswould trumpet the signal from hill to hill untill the signal finally reached the Temple. Then the High Priest would blow the ram's horn (The Shofar) and announce the beginning of the New Year.

Rosh Ha'shanah the ancient New Year's day for Israel as well as most middle east cultures, is celebrated on the first day of Tishri, Jewish tradition reveals its four-fold meaning:
1-NEW YEAR'S DAY
2-THE DAY OF REMEMBERENCE.
3-THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT
4-THE DAY OF BLOWING THE SHOFAR (RAM'S HORN)

On this day the synagogue lesson of Isaiah, Chapters 60 and 61, teaches of that long-awaited day when the Lord is revealed as King and he will be accepted as the ruler of the world. Two spiritually important events have already occured on the anniversary of the Feast of Trumpets. One still remains to be fulfilled in our future.

This is the future date I believe the 7 YR treaty of Daniel 9:27 will be signed on. The Beginning of the Tribulation of hell on Earth.

1-Joshua Brought the First Offering to the New Altar.
EZRA 3:1-6
1 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
2 Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
3 And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.
4 They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;
5 And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the LORD that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the LORD.
6 From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.

2-Ezra Read the Law to the Returned Exiles.
Nehemiah 8:2-3
2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

FUTURE
3-The possible Day for the Battle of Armageddon.

JOEL 1:14-15
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

JOEL 2:1-2
1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;
2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.

JEREMIAH 4:5-6
5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.
6 Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

THE TENTH DAY OF TISHRI (SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER)
THE DAY OF ATONEMENT - YOM KIPPUR

LEVITICUS 23:26-32
26 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.
31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement is the Holiest day in the Jewish Calendar. It is the day when all Israel mourns for their sins. On this day, the tenth day of Tishri, and only on this day the High Priest would enter the Most Holy of Holies in the Temple, the place where the Shekinah glory dwelt.

Two historically important events have already occurred on the tenth day of Tishri, and one future event will possibly transpire on this date.

HEBREWS 9:12,14
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

LEVITICUS 25:9-10
9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1-Aaron, the High Priest made Atonement for Israel for the First Time in the Wilderness.
LEVITICUS 16:1-28
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;
2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.
5 And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
7 And he shall take the two goats, and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD'S lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD, to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
11 And Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make an atonement for himself, and for his house, and shall kill the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself:
12 And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
13 And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:
14 And he shall take of the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it with his finger upon the mercy seat eastward; and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his finger seven times.
15 Then shall he kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the vail, and do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bullock, and sprinkle it upon the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16 And he shall make an atonement for the holy place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions in all their sins: and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation, that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness.
17 And there shall be no man in the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place, until he come out, and have made an atonement for himself, and for his household, and for all the congregation of Israel.
18 And he shall go out unto the altar that is before the LORD, and make an atonement for it; and shall take of the blood of the bullock, and of the blood of the goat, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about.
19 And he shall sprinkle of the blood upon it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and hallow it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
20 And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:
21 And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat, and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:
22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
23 And Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of the congregation, and shall put off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the holy place, and shall leave them there:
24 And he shall wash his flesh with water in the holy place, and put on his garments, and come forth, and offer his burnt offering, and the burnt offering of the people, and make an atonement for himself, and for the people.
25 And the fat of the sin offering shall he burn upon the altar.
26 And he that let go the goat for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward come into the camp.
27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.
28 And he that burneth them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

FUTURE
3-Israel will mourn when they see their Messiah whom they Pierced.

ZECHARIAH 12:10-11
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

EZEKIEL 36:26,33
26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.

ROMANS 9:26
26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

THE FIFTEENTH DAY OF TISHRI (SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER)
THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES - SUKKOT

LEVITICUS 23:33-34,42-43
33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

The feast of Tabernacles was the third of the three annuak feasts which all Jewish men were required to attend in Jerusalem each year. This feast known as Sukkot was instituted by God in the wilderness of Sinai. It begins on the fifteenth day of Tishri, five days after the solemn Day of Atonement. It is sometimes referred to as the great Harvest Home which occurred at the end of the fruit harvest (September-October).

There are two notable historical anniversary events connected with The Feast of Tabernacles and one possible future fulfillment.

1-The Dedication of Solomom's Temple on the feast of Tabernacles.
2 CHRONICLES 5:2-3,12-14
2 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.
3 Wherefore all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto the king in the feast which was in the seventh month.
12 Also the Levites which were the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, being arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:)
13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.

1 KINGS 8:1-2
1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.
2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month

2-The Possible Birthday of Jesus Christ.
JOHN 1:14
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

FUTURE
3-The Beginning of the Kingdom Age-The Millenium.

ZECHARIAH 14:9,16
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

THE TWENTY-FOURTH DAY OF CHISLEU (NOVEMBER/DECEMBER)
THE FEAST OF HANUKKAH

Chisleu, the ninth month in the Jewish calendar, corresponds to our months of november-December. On the twenty-fifth day of the month, the Jews celebrate the Feast of Hanukkah-which was not one of the appointed feasts but which commemorates the cleansing and rededication of the Second Temple in 165 B.C.

On the day before the Feast of Hanukkah, on the twenty-fourth day of chisleu, israel has witnessed four major historical events.

1-The foundation of the Second Temple - 520 B.C.
HAGGAI 2:18-19
18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid, consider it.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.

2-The Abolition of the Temple Sacrifice - 168 B.C.

3-The Recapture of the Temple and Cleansing of the Sanctuary - 165 B.C.

LEVITICUS 23:44
44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts of the LORD.

NUMBERS 10:10
10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.

In giving the laws for his people, God set several appointed feasts of the Lord for Israel to observe at specific times during the year (Leviticus 23). These feasts were to be celebrated from that time in the wilderness when God gave the law and would carry on into the future. The first feast day God set aside is the Sabbath day, which is to be observed every week. The following seven feasts in Leviticus 23 were to be celebrated annually: Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Penticost, Trumpets, Atonement, Tabernacles.

Each feast commemorated a specific event. But that is not all. Looking back from the vantage point of our history, we discover also that additional specific prophesied events were fulfilled on the exact feast days that God instituted to commemorate the events. For example, the feast of Passover commemorated the deliverence of the Hebrew people from the destroyer that passed over their blood sprinkled homes as he visited the homes of the Egyptians, taking the lives of the firstborn of every
family-human and cattle.

The blood that the people were told to put on their doorposts was from a sacrificial lamb. The event that was prefigured, of course, was the offering of the lamb of God on Calvary. Four of the seven feasts have already been fulfilled, each one on the same day of the month on which God commanded that the feast should be commemorated.

Therefore, because of this phenomenon, we can expect those prophecies which are still in our future to also be fulfilled on the exact calendar day these feasts are to be celebrated.

4 FEASTS FULFILLED, 3 TO GO

The first four of the feasts-Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Passover, Feast of First Fruits, and Feast of Penticost-were fulfilled at the first advent of our Lord Jesus Christ. The final three feasts, the feast of trumpets, the feast of atonement and the feast of Tabernacles-will be fulfilled, it is believed, at our Lord's second coming. We will study each of these feasts and the prophecy it symbolizes, as well
as the events that have occured already in Israel's history on the exact calendar day of the feast.

On Rosh Hodesh, the first day of each month of the Jewish calendar, the appearence of even a tiny sliver of the new moon signaled the beginning of the month. This first day was announced through the blowing of the Shofar, the ram's horn, in the cities and by signal fires on each mountain top which fanned out the news to the most distant villages in Israel.

PSALMS 81:3-5
3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.
4 For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.
5 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.

During the first temple period, in King Solomon's day, the high priest announced the appearence of the new moon. Later, the Sanhedrin (the highest legal authority) announced the first day of the first month to set the calendar for the new year and set the dates for the seven feasts.

FIRST DAY OF NISAN (MARCH/APRIL)
CLEANSING AND NEW BEGINNINGS

The theme of the first day of the month of Nisan was a time for ritual cleansing and new beginnings for the Jews. From the time of the Exodus, God declared that Israel would change their New Year's day from the fall to a new system where the first day of Nisan, in the spring (MARCH-APRIL) became the beginning of the calendar year. Nisan, then, became the first month in the Jewish calendar.

Four events have already transpired in Israel's history on this first important biblical anniversary that have to do with cleansing and new beginnings. One still remains to be fulfilled.

1-The dedication of the tabernacle during Exodus.
EXODUS 40:17
17 And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.

2-The cleansing of the Temple by King Hezekiah.
2 CHRONICLES 29:2-3,17
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
3 He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.
17 Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD: so they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end.

3-Ezra and the exiles begin their return from Babylon
EZRA 7:9,23
7 And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
9 For upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.
23 Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

4-The decree is given to Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.
NEHEMIAH 2:1-8
1 And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
2 Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,
3 And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
4 Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
5 And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it.
6 And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
7 Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;
8 And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

FUTURE
5-The cleansing of the millennial Temple.

EZEKIEL 45:18
18 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the first month, in the first day of the month, thou shalt take a young bullock without blemish, and cleanse the sanctuary:

THE TENTH DAY OF NISAN (MARCH/APRIL)
SANCTIFICATION

Sanctification is the theme associated with the tenth day of Nisan. It was the day connected with the setting apart of the Passover Lamb for a holy purpose. There are four major events associated with this special day.

1-The sanctification of the Passover Lamb during the Exodus.EXODUS 12:3-6
3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.

1 CORINTHIANS 5:7
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

2-Israel Crossed the Jordan River and Entered the Promised Land.
JOSHUA 3:5,16
5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.
16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

JOSHUA 4:19
19 And the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho.

3-Christ our Passover Lamb was cut off on Palm Sunday.
On the tenth day of Nisan in A.D 32 Christ was cut off.
DANIEL 9:26
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

FUTURE
4-Ezekiels Vision of the Millennial Temple.

EZEKIEL 40:1-2
1 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither.

THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF NISAN (MARCH/APRIL)
THE PASSOVER SUPER

LEVITICUS 23:4-5
4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S passover.

Passover always falls on a full moon, the first full moon of spring. All Jewish males were required by God to go to Jerusalem three times each year to commemorate these feasts - passover, Penticost and the Feast of Tabernacles. Passover was the first of these feasts.

The biblical calendar reckons the beginning of a new day from sunset as God did at creation.
GENESIS 1:5
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

The Haggadah, the Jewish liturgy, says In every generation , each person should feel as though she or he were personally redeemed from Egypt. In the sacred cycle of festivals, the Passover Supper on the evening of the fourteenth of Nisan, allows all Jews in all the generations since the Exodus to participate personally in the miracle of God's redemption of the enslaved Israelites. The Passover holds forth the promise of that final redemption when the Messiah will redeem all those who look to
him for salvation.

Passover is probably the most significant of all the festivals which Israel celebrates. For almost thirty-five hundred years, Jewish families have gathered to commemorate what God did for them when he delivered them from hundreds of years of slavery in Egypt.

Six times in their history on this day, the fourteenth day of Nisan, the evening Passover Supper has marked a milestone in the spiritual and national life of Israel.

1-God makes a Covenant with Abraham regarding the promised land.
GENESIS 15:13-18
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

GENESIS 18:14
14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

2-The Exodus Passover Supper.
EXODUS 12:41
41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

3-The First Passover in Canaan.
GENESIS 17:10-11,23
10 This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.
11 And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant betwixt me and you.
23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.

JOSHUA 5:3,8,11-12
3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins
8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole
11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

4-The Book of Law was discovered.
2 CHRONICLES 34:2-3,14,31
2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
3 For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
14 And when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found a book of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
31 And the king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.

5-The dedication of the second Temple.
2 CHRONICLES 36:19
19 And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.

EZRA 6:16-19
16 And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy,
17 And offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.
18 And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which is at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses.
19 And the children of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month.

6-The Last Supper.
LUKE 22:19-20
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

1 CORINTHIANS 11:26
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

THE FIFTEENTH DAY OF NISAN (MARCH/APRIL)
THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.

LEVITICUS 23:6-7,10-11
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

Although the Feast of Unleavned Bread (Hag-Ha-Matzot) is quite distinct from the Passover Feast, it occures at the same time and lasts seven days from the fifteenth day of Nisan (March/April) through the twenty-first. During these seven days, Israel was to eat bread without leaven (leaven symbolized sin) in rememberance of their baking unleavened bread in their haste to escape Egypt. The Jews in the Old and new Testament usually treated the first day of Unleavened Bread and the Passover as one,
due to its historical connection and proximity.

The Apostle Paul was thinking of this unleavened bread when he told the church at Corinth to
1 CORINTHIANS 5:7-8
7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

There have been three notable anniversary events on the feast of Unleavened Bread.

1-The Exodus from Egypt.
EXODUS 12:41
41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

DEUTORONOMY 16:3
3 Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.

2-The Crucifixion of Christ, our Passover Lamb.
JOHN 6:35
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

JOHN 12:23-24,27-28
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

3-The Final fall of the Jews Resistance at Massada.
For two years following the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, the remaining Jewish resistance, under the command of Eleazar, retreated to the mountain fortress of Massada. The impregnable fortress sits on a mountain top overlooking the Dead Sea. It could only be approached by a narrow snakepath which wound its way up the steep cliffs. A small group of Soldiers was able to bravely hold off the Roman Legions for almost two years until the Roman general Silva built a huge earthen
ramp up the western side to enable their battering rams to break through. When the ramp was completed, the Jewish defenders knew that the war was lost and that by early morning the Roman Soldiers would overcome the 960 men, women and children who were the last remnant of a free Israel. They knew, from grim experience, that their fate at the hands of the Romans included rape, torture and death for every last one of them.

Rather then submit their wives and children to the cruelties of Roman victory, the defenders decided to take their own lives and die as free men. Flavius Josephus states, This calamitous slaughter was made on the fifteenth day of the month Nisan (Feast of Unleavened Bread).

THE SEVENTEENTH DAY OF NISAN (MARCH/APRIL)
THE FEAST OF FIRST FRUITS.

EXODUS 23:19
19 Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings.

The third of the seven feasts is celebrated on the seventeenth day of Nisan, the Feast of firstfruits.

This was the time for the harvesting of the early crops of spring. God wanted Israel to acknowledge that they owed Him not only the firstfruits, but that all they had was from God, a daily gift from his gracious land.

Four historically important anniversary events have happened on the Feast of Firstfruits, the seventeenth day of Nisan.

1-Noahs Ark rested on Mountains of Ararat.GENESIS 8:4
4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

Most ancient nations, including Israel, began their calendar year in the fall (September/October). However God changed Israels calendar by rotating it six months so that, from the time of the Exodus, their New Year's Day began in the Spring on the first day of the month of Nisan (March/April). In order to commemorate Israel's miraculas deliverence from the bondage of Egypt in the month of Nisan. God instructed Moses to change the order of the month of Exodus, Nisan, which had formerly been their Seventh month of the year, into their first month of their year.

EXODUS 12:1-2
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

Thus, when Genesis 8:4 describes Noah's ark resting on the mountains of Ararat on the seventeeth day of the ancient calendar's seventh month (Nisan-March), it is the same day exactly as the seventeenth day of the new calendar's first month (Nisan-March) which ultimately became the Feast of Firstfruits.

2-Israel Miraculously Crossed over the Red Sea.
EXODUS 14:11-14
11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.
14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

3-Israel Eats the Firstfruits of the Promised Land.
JOSHUA 5:10-12
10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

4-Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As Jesus hung on the cross in death, Satan, the Romans, the Pharisees, those who called for his death, and even his followers looked at him and saw only defeat and death:; the death of a great vision. Yet, as Jesus himself had said,
JOHN 12:24
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
But when it falls to the ground and takes root it is soon transformed into new life. It was essential for Jesus to die in order to triumph over death, sin, and Satan.

The most significant event that took place on the seventeenth day of Nisan is the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the "firstfruits" of all future resurrections into eternal life.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:20
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

Jesus celebrated this feast by first conquering death himself, then by offering the firstfruits to all future resurrections when

MATTHEW 27:52-53
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Christ proved that His power over death was not limited to Himself by resurrecting many of the Old Testament saints on this feast of Firstfruits. Other ancient writers, including Clement of Alexandria in his Stromata fefer to this miraculas resurrection of the dead which, together with more than five hundred eyewitnesses to the risen Christ, assisted in the rapid, early spread of the Christian faith

1 CORINTHIANS 15:4-6
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

What an impressive way to present to God the firstfruits of the harvest. JESUS the FIRSTFRUITS,
1 CORINTHIANS 15:18
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

and finally all believers who are alive at His second advent at the Rapture, raised imperishable and immortal.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:54-55
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

TOMORROW WE WILL FINISH THE FINAL HAPPENINGS OF PROPHECIES FULFILLED ON FEAST DAYS PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. PART 2
