STERLING - City leaders are backtracking after the family of a pastor's wife was told her cemetery marker could not include the word "Jesus" because some might find it offensive.Faith and family were inextricably linked for Linda Baker. The late woman's husband, Mark, is the pastor of Harvest Baptist Church in Ovid.
Her family intended to recognize her faith and honor her wishes by engraving her cemetery marker with the word Jesus surrounded by the ichthys, the fish-like symbol of early Christianity.The fish is fine, the manager of the city-owned cemetery said, but no Jesus."They felt that the name Jesus would be offensive to some," said Stacy Adams, Linda's daughter-in-law.A ban on a religious reference? In a cemetery? "There are full scriptures everyone you look," Adams said. "You can't walk two feet without tripping over them."The cemetery manager, Shawn Rewoldt, was in error, according to Sterling city manager Joe Kiolbasa.
"This gentleman thought it may have been objectionable to someone because of the Christian connotation," Kiolbasa said. "It will be allowed in the future."Kiolbasa said the city will not censor any future religious references on headstones and cemetery markers."That has been corrected," Kiolbasa said.Baker's family insists the city manager originally supported the cemetery manager's decision and only relented after they initiated public pressure through a series of Facebook posts."I'm sorry that it took this to do it. But I hope it sends a message," Adams said. "In their misguided attempt to offend no one, they ended up offending many."

A stenographer for the House apparently lost it Wednesday night as lawmakers passed a government funding and debt limit deal, Roll Call reports. The stenographer began shouting about God and the Freemasons as the vote took place."He will not be mocked. He will not be mocked. Don't touch me. He will not be mocked," the stenographer shouted as she was taken away by U.S. Capitol Police. "The greatest deception here is not 'one nation under God.' It never was. Had it been, it would not have been."She continued, "The Constitution would not have been written by Freemasons. They go against God."She went on, "You cannot serve two masters. Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ."

U.S.: Atheist groups want Jesus portrait out of school

A school in Ohio will be forced to remove a portrait of Jesus and pay a 95 thousand dollar fine after two atheist groups accused the educational institution of displaying an “unconstitutional” religious artefact

Mauro Pianta ROMe There’s no room for images of Jesus in the Jackson City School District in the U.S. state of Ohio. The school has been ordered to remove a portrait of Jesus from its grounds after legal action was taken by two atheist groups, the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and the FFRF (Freedom  From Religion Federation). These groups claimed that “this particular kind of religious artefact (in a public school) is unconstitutional.” As a result, the school now has to pay damages and legal fees amounting to $95,000.
 
James Hardinam, legal director for the ACLU of Ohio, told Associated Press that “all of this was unnecessary. The law is pretty clear…the display of this particular kind of religious artefact (in a public school) is unconstitutional.”The school is considering contesting this in court but lawyers have advised against this. The school’s insurance company does not intend to cover the legal fees.The school’s heads say the portrait has been in the school for more than 60 years. They also claimed that the image was kept in a room where not many people entered and was displayed next to portraits of other historical figures. This apparently was not good enough for the two atheist groups.

Ideology-oriented Christians block Jesus’ path

Pope Francis: When faithful start talking about Christianity like an ideology it automatically repels people. It “frightens, ideology chases away and distances the people and distances the Church of the people.”

Gianni Valente vatican city When a church is closed, people walk past it and can’t enter. “And, even worse, the Lord cannot be close to the people.” The same thing can happen to the whole of Christ’s Church if the “scholars of the law” block its doors - those who make an ideology out of faith and in so doing keep all others away from the gardens and wells of God’s grace. Today Pope Francis spoke about them in the homily he gave at this morning’s mass in St. Martha’s House.As always Francis referred to a passage from the Gospel to explain his point. He commented on a passage from Luke’s Gospel in which Jesus is in a Pharisee’s house, scolding “scholars of the law”: “Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge!” (Luke 11: 52).Even today there are those who think they have the key to knowledge and don’t open the door. Or even worse, they stop at the entrance, form a picket line and don’t let others in. By doing so they sabotage Christ’s teaching, which says the opposite: “Go, go out into the world. Teach. Baptise. Go to street crossings and beckon everyone towards you. Good and bad. That is what Jesus says. Everyone in.”According to Francis, the attitude of “keeping the key to the Church in his pocket, with the door closed” is part of a “spiritual and mental process”. This happens when “the faith passes, so to speak, through a distiller and becomes ideology.” Pope Francis also traced some of the traits of the ideological caricatures of the Christian faith. “In ideologies there is not Jesus: in his tenderness, his love, his meekness.” These “are rigid”. “The knowledge of Jesus is transformed into an ideological and also moralistic knowledge, because these close the door with many requirements.” As happened in Jesus’ time, when  scholars of the law closed the door with lots of rules. “When a Christian becomes a disciple of the ideology, he has lost the faith: he is no longer a disciple of Jesus, he is a disciple of this attitude of thought.” When Christianity begins to be seen as an ideology, it becomes repellent, keeping people away from the Christian experience, often giving a sense of self-satisfaction. “Ideology frightens, ideology chases away the people, distances, distances the people and distances of the Church of the people.” “It is a serious illness, this of ideological Christians” but it is not new, Francis said. The Apostle John spoke of this in his First Letter: “be rigid, moralistic, ethical, but without kindness. This can be the question, no? But why is it that a Christian can become like this? Just one thing: this Christian does not pray. And if there is no prayer, you always close the door.”If a good Christian rebukes them, they react as the Pharisees did towards Jesus: “When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him.”Everyone, even Popes, bishops and priests can be tempted to distort Christianity, turning it into an ideology. According to Francis what is at the root of this distortion is a failure to pray: “The key that opens the door to the faith is prayer.”  “And if there is no prayer, you always close the door.” He who does not pray is “arrogant, is proud, is sure of himself. He is not humble. He seeks his own advancement.”  “I say to pray, I do not say to say prayers, because these teachers of the law said many prayers” This is how one keeps out of the trap of ideology and arrogance. For this reason we must ask the Lord to help us to “continue to pray so that we do not lose the faith.” Only this way does a person remain humble and avoid the risk of “blocking the lord’s path,” particularly given that it is some Christians’ job to talk about ecclesial and religious affairs all day long.

The Government Is Researching How To Use Technology To Change Your Religious Beliefs

Should the U.S. government be trying to figure out how to use technology to change the beliefs of “religious extremists”?  Before you answer yes to that question, perhaps you should consider whether or not the U.S. government considers you to be a “religious extremist”.  After all, as I have documented previously, conservatives, libertarians, Tea Party activists and evangelical Christians are all considered to be “extremists” in various U.S. government documents.  So if we open up Pandora’s Box and say that it is okay for the government to use technology to wipe away the religious beliefs of some “extremists”, what would stop them from using that same technology on you someday?  The truth is that this kind of technology should never be used on anyone, and it is very disturbing that the government seems so determined to develop it.
We would probably know very little about the development of this technology if a whistleblower had not recently come forward.  The following is a YouTube video in which investigative reporter Ben Swann interviews this whistleblower and explains what the U.S. government is actually trying to do…
That video should chill you to the core.And apparently this kind of technology already exists.  It is called “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation” and it can reportedly alter your most cherished beliefs. The following is a short excerpt from Ben Swann’s interview with the whistleblower that worked on this project…

Ben: Phase III is fairly interesting. I noticed in the documentation it says lets not talk too much about this because who knows if we’ll ever get there. But when you do read what Phase III is it is a little surprising, it’s called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. This is not something that’s science fiction, it’s not something they’ve cooked up. This is a real technique that’s already been used in the past, correct? Whistleblower: Yes, it started out in the psychiatry field when people were depressed and when you’re depressed certain parts of your brain are not functioning correctly. So they created this technology, which is basically a big magnet, and you put it on their brain and it turns off that part of the brain that’s bad or wrong and it would help them with their depression for several weeks to a month and they’d go back and do it again. So this technology has been around for ten or fifteen years.Ben: So it’s very high tech propaganda, what we’re talking about.Whistleblower: High tech and validated propaganda, yes. So if they’re able to turn off a part of the brain and get rid of that master narrative that will make you not believe in a particular statement, they would have validated this propaganda. So if they turn off portion X, they know that the propaganda is going to work and the individual is going to believe whatever is being told to them.

Once the U.S. government starts using this technology on people, will there be any limit on who they can use it on? As Ben Swann noted, the label “extremist” can be applied to almost any kind of religious belief…

After all, aren’t extremist Muslims dangerous? Extremist Christians? See the problem with the question is who gets to define extremist? Who decides if religious beliefs are inherently dangerous? And if we believe that government should have the power to control how the extremist thinks… wouldn’t they have the authority to decide how and what we all think?

Don’t be tempted to think that this can’t happen.  Just this week Fox News reported that the American Family Association, a very mainstream evangelical Christian organization, was classified as “a domestic hate group” during a U.S. Army briefing…

Several dozen U.S. Army active duty and reserve troops were told last week that the American Family Association, a well-respected Christian ministry, should be classified as a domestic hate group because the group advocates for traditional family values.The briefing was held at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and listed the AFA alongside domestic hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam.

And this is hardly an isolated incident.  In a previous article entitled “72 Types Of Americans That Are Considered ‘Potential Terrorists’ In Official Government Documents“, I listed a whole bunch of different types of Christians that are considered to be “extremists” in U.S. government documents.And this attitude of animosity toward Christians is manifesting itself in a multitude of ways all over the country.  In fact, according to the new Religious Hostility Survey, the number of incidents of hostility toward Christians in the United States is growing at a very frightening pace…Hostility against Christian Americans is growing at an alarming rate, according to a new survey from the Family Research Council and Liberty Institute.The Liberty Institute’s Jeff Mateer noted that while last year’s survey was based on 600 cases, “this survey that we’re releasing right now is almost 1,200. So we’ve almost doubled in just one year.”One such case involved college student named Audrey Jarvis, who was asked twice to remove her cross, or at least hide it, at a student orientation.“My supervisor came up to me out of nowhere and asked me to remove my cross necklace because he thought it would be offensive to incoming freshmen,” she recalled.Will we eventually get to the point where evangelical Christianity is looked down upon so much in this nation that it is considered acceptable for the government to use technology to wipe away the religious beliefs of “extremist” Christians?
Once upon a time, it would have been insane to even suggest such a thing.  But now the technology is being developed and mainstream evangelical Christians are being labeled as “extremists” and “potential terrorists” in official U.S. government documents.It is frightening to think about where all of this might end up.

Liberation Theology: Cipriani urges Müller to be more prudent

ANDREA TORNIELLI vatican city Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani has criticised the Prefect of the Congregation for the Faith, Gerhard Ludwig Müller for opening up to Liberation Theology. Müller, whom Benedict XVI nominated leader of the Congregation in 2012, is the co-author – alongside liberation theologian Gustavo Gutiérrez – of the book “Dalla parte dei poveri. Teologia della liberazione, teologia della Chiesa” (“On the Side of the Poor: Liberation Theology, Theology of the Church”), a recent Italian edition of a book they wrote in German in 2004. A great deal was written about the book in the columns of Vatican daily L’Osservatore Romano. Gutiérrez met with Pope Francis last September.Cipriani is Archbishop of Lima and the first cardinal to head a diocese belonging to the Opus Dei. He had already criticised the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith once a week or so ago about his stance towards Liberation Theology. The Peruvian cardinal still seems to feel strongly about it, as is clear in this interview he gave in Spanish.Answering a question about some previous statements he made, Cipriani said: “I still say (Müller) is naive. Gustavo Gutiérrez concelebrated mass with the Pope and 25 other priests. At the end of the mass, the Pope greeted everyone and he did the same with Gutiérrez. Let’s not make up stories about an audience and some reconciliation now.”The interviewer mentioned an answer given by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The Prefect apparently said he was not bothered about being naive but stressed the importance of “reconciliation” among the “parties” within the Church. “I don’t agree with his statement about parties within the Church. I think he has got it wrong. Mgr. Müller’s job is to defend the sound doctrine of the Catholic faith so he should stop being naive and be more prudent. I say this with all humility.”Regarding Pope Francis’ recent decision to confirm Müller’s position as head of the Congregation of the Doctrine for the Faith, Cipriani remarked: “He knows what he’s talking about when it comes to theology and is editing Ratzinger’s Opera Omnia, or complete works. He is an academic with a university background. No one questions his intellectual abilities.”
