The Temple movements' intention to hold a public slaughter of the Passover sacrifice was slammed by the animal rights movement, Let Animals Live.The activists demanded that the event's coordinators cancel their plans, and sent letters to Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski, and to the Director of the Temple Institute, Yehuda Glick, threatening to sue if their demands were not met within 24 hours.

He also mentioned the halacha, which prohibits animal abuse, and cited halachic rulings dealing with the correct treatment of animals. In his letter to the mayor Ladianski writes, Performing a public act in which an animal is sacrificed, when one can just as easily use a dummy, is wrong and unnecessary.Before we assume legal action we request that you notify us within 24 hours that you have received this letter and do not plan to allow this slaughter in Jerusalem's jurisdiction.Eti Altman, one of the founders of the Let Animals Live movement, told Ynet that in her opinion, The event is pointless and suitable only for unenlightened countries.Apart from the fact that it constitutes abuse, the slaughter of animals before an audience is liable to threaten their sense of humanity, and may deepen the rift between religious and secular communities.

Animal Sacrifices in Israel -- Past & Future

Though commanded by God, animal sacrifices in Israel could never remove spiritual guilt from the offerer. The Book of Hebrews is very clear about that (10:4,11). But it is equally erroneous to say that the sacrifices were mere teaching symbols given by God to prepare the nation for Messiah and His infinite atonement. Such a view is contradicted by precise statements in Exodus and Leviticus. From God's perspective, this was surely a major purpose in the sacrificial system; but it could not have been their exclusive purpose from the perspective of Old Covenant Israelites.The Scriptures tell us that something really did happen to the Israelite offerer when he came to the right altar with the appropriate sacrifice; and he was expected to know what would happen to him (e.g., that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf,Lev. 1:4). What happened was temporal, finite, external, and legal -- not eternal, infinite, internal, and soteriological. Nevertheless, what happened was personally and immediately significant, not simply symbolic and/or prophetic.Now what does all of this indicate with regard to animal sacrifices in the Millenial Temple for Israel under the New Covenant? It indicates that future sacrifices will have nothing to do with eternal salvation which only comes through the true faith in God. It also indicates that future animal sacrifices will be efficacious and expiatory only in terms of the strict provision for ceremonial (and thus temporal) forgiveness within the theocracy of Israel. Such sacrifices, then, will not be primarily memorial (like the bread and the cup in church communion services), any more than sacrifices in the age of the Old Covenant were primarily prospective or prophetic in the understanding of the offerer.

Though the Kingdom Age will begin with only regenerated citizens (cf. Matt. 25:34), the vast majority of people born during the Kingdom Age will remain unbelievers (Rev. 20:7-9). Thus, millennial nations will increasingly need the protection from the immediate wrath of a holy God that animal sacrifices will provide in accordance with their divine design and function in the Mosaic Law. Ezekiel foresaw, by the Spirit of God, that there will be the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering, and the peace offerings to make atonement for the house of Israel(45:17). And Jeremiah foresaw that the Levitical priests shall never lack a man before Me to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to prepare sacrifices continually(33:18).How can vital spiritual instruction be accomplished for citizens of the millennial Kingdom age through a system of animal sacrifices? If it is theoretically possible (though sadly rare) for the Church today to achieve a spiritual, symbolic, and pedagogic balance in the use of bread and cup in the Eucharist, then it will be all the more possible for regenerated Israel to attain the divinely intended balance between form and content, lip and heart, hand and soul, within the structures of the New Covenant. It is not only possible, but prophetically certain, that millennial animal sacrifices will be used in a God-honoring way (e.g., Ps. 51:15-19; Heb. 11:4) by a regenerated, chosen nation before the inauguration of the eternal state when animals will presumably no longer exist.Before the heavens and the earth flee away from him who sits upon the Great White Throne (Rev. 20:11), God will provide a final demonstration of the validity of animal sacrifices as an instructional and disciplinary instrument for Israel. The entire world will see the true purpose of this system. Of course, the system never has and never will function on the level of Calvary's Cross, where infinite and eternal guilt was dealt with once and for all. But the system did accomplish, under God, some very important pedagogical and disciplinary purposes for Israel under the Old Covenant (Gal. 4:1-7). There is good reason to believe that it will yet again, and far more successfully from a pedagogical standpoint, function on the level of purely temporal cleansing and forgiveness (cf. Heb. 9:13) within the strict limits of the national theocracy of Israel during the one thousand years of Christ's reign upon the earth in accordance with the terms of the New Covenant.

A Rabbi Greets The Pope In Rome, En Route To Jerusalem,Religious Leaders Talk Ahead Of Pope’s Visit By David Bedein, Middle East Correspondent Thursday, April 02, 2009

Jerusalem — A leading Israeli rabbi is speaking out on the sensitive discussions between the Israeli rabbinate and the Vatican in anticipation of Pope Benedict XVI’s May visit to the Holy Land and about his own connections to Jerusalem.Rabbi Shear Yashuv Cohen, who serves as the chief rabbi in the northern port city of Haifa and dean of Israel’s institutions of rabbinical education, has been part of the Israeli dialogue and says many concerns remain as the date of the Pope’s visit nears.The rabbi said the discrete talks between the two sides have focused on issues such as the Pope’s general reinstatement of the Tridentine Mass and especially with regard to the Good Friday prayer for the Jews’ conversion and sainthood for Pope Pius XII, the Pope during World War II.Pope John Paul II allowed the Tridentine Mass and the Holy Week rites that were customary during the time of Pope John XXIII in the early 1960s —including the traditional prayer for the Jews conversion — to be used with permission of the local bishop in 1988, but Pope Benedict XVI eliminated the requirement of having to receive a bishop’s permission to use the pre-Vatican II rites in 2007.

Following Vatican II, the Roman Catholic Church eliminated an explicit call for God to convert the Jews from its Good Friday liturgy.The status of Pius XII, he said, remains a thorny issue for the rabbis in their discussions with the Vatican, as did the issue of several clerics who denied the Holocaust.We refer to him as the Holocaust Pope,said Rabbi Cohen.Although he may have helped individual Jews, he did not fulfill his role to protest the mass slaughter of Jews. Rabbi Cohen expressed the view that if the Vatican does claim that Pope Pius XII did extraordinary things to help the Jews during the war, then the Vatican should open its archives to provide documentation of such.Rabbi Cohen said he requested the opportunity to visit Rome and discuss these issues directly with the Pope and other senior Vatican officials.

The rabbi received that opportunity last October when the Vatican gave him an unprecedented opportunity to address a gathering of Catholic bishops on the topic of the Holy Scriptures.He described how the Pope entered the hall with him, arm-in-arm, where he gave a lesson on subject on how portions of the Torah (Old Testament) have been integrated into Jewish prayers. While looking at the Pope during his teaching, Rabbi Cohen noticed the Pope had closed his eyes in an intense meditation, holding his hands to his head.After his address, Rabbi Cohen expressed his aforementioned concerns.We hope that the present leadership will not take any steps that would cause pain to those who have survived the Holocaust,Rabbi Cohen told the Pope and the assembled Catholic bishops.

He said the response was surprisingly positive.

I have a feeling that this made the Vatican rethink the whole matter and that this played a role in the decision not to beatify Pope Pius XII,a discussion of which was scheduled for two days after Rabbi Cohen’s fall visit.The Vatican made it clear to Rabbi Cohen, on the record, that the Pope would make every effort to continue a process of dialogue and reconciliation that reached its peak at the time of the visit of Pope Paul II in Jerusalem, in March 2000.Three weeks ago, Rabbi Cohen was again invited to Rome, where he led a delegation of rabbis who will form the welcoming committee for the Pope in Jerusalem. Pope Benedict XVI used the rabbi’s second visit to Rome to clarify that a mishap had occurred when he lifted the excommunication of traditionalist Bishop Richard Williamson of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) who has been on record as denying the Holocaust. The Pope told Rabbi Cohen that he should have checked the Internet about the bishop before lifting the excommunication that had been leveled against him by his predecessor, John Paul II.Rabbi Cohen said the Pope went out of his way to make it clear the Vatican would never question Israel’s sovereignty, nor challenge its rights to rule over the Old City of Jerusalem. Between 1949 and 1967, the Old City remained under Jordan’s Islamic rule, and Jews were barred from entering it.He said both himself and other Israeli rabbis are open to Pope Benedict’s idea of establishing an inter-religious council where all of the religions represented in the Holy City could be called together to discuss both the practical and spiritual aspects of Jerusalem’s present and future.The rabbi also discussed the warm interpersonal relations that developed between the rabbis and the Vatican officials.

The chemistry that developed between the Jerusalem rabbinic leadership and the leading figures of the Vatican led to the logical conclusion that they should have lunch together at the one kosher restaurant in Rome. Italian eyebrows were raised when half a dozen rabbis with black skullcaps and half a dozen Catholic cardinals with red skullcaps sauntered into the restaurant to order a kosher lunch. The rabbi also divulged his long personal connection with Jerusalem, where he will accompany the Pope in May, which has included numerous remarkable events.In May 1948, Rabbi Cohen was an 18-year-old seminary student who was shot in the Old City during the bloody fighting, in the cobblestone paths of old Jerusalem.Rabbi Cohen said he was taken to an improvised clinic of the Armenian convent near the Jewish Quarter, where Armenian clerics had treated his wounds and saved his life.Carried out on a stretcher to a Jordanian prison camp, Rabbi Cohen was the last Jewish civilian to leave the old city of Jerusalem before the Arabs ransacked the Jewish quarter and burnt all 57 synagogues inside the walls of the ancient Jerusalem.In 1967, after Israel gained control over the ancient old city of Jerusalem, Rabbi Cohen was the first Jewish civilian allowed back into Jerusalem, and in that capacity he served at the time as the deputy mayor of Jerusalem. Later in October 1994, Rabbi Cohen was invited to give the benediction at the Jordan-Israel peace treaty ceremony. Regarding the upcoming visit of the Pope

During the Lag B’Omer season, Pope Benedict XVI is expected to visit the holy sites of his religion and to put forward a series of agreements between the Vatican and the State of Israel. We would like to call your attention to the Sanhedrin’s stance on this subject. The State of Israel grants freedom of worship to every religion except the Jews on their most sanctified site, the Temple Mount: there, they are granted neither freedom of prayer nor minimal freedom of religion. The State of Israel thus contradicts the purpose for which it was established and undermines its own foundations.In contrast the State of Israel makes special efforts to transfer its national, religious, and spiritual assets to the sons of strangers. For many years negotiations and contacts to reach agreements have been conducted regarding what the Catholic Church sees as its property or desires for itself, whether within previous confines such as Mt. Zion or within the Old City, the Kinneret, and other places. Those who initiated the concept of the Holy Basin principally intend to remove exclusive Jewish sovereignty from the Temple Mount and the Old City and in effect, aim at the total removal of Jewish sovereignty. We expect you to be particularly watchful regarding Jerusalem as Passover approaches lest our right hand forget its skill.The government of Israel, as a Jewish government, must heighten awareness of the freedom of the Jewish people more than ever on the holiday of Passover.

The State of Israel is also subject to the deed of ownership – the Bible - according to which it claimed ownership of the land at its very establishment. Therefore the government must actualize Jewish sovereignty in Jerusalem, the city of God, the royal city, capital of Israel, heart of the world, and it must guarantee the right of worship and prayer of Jews on the Temple Mount and realize the obligation of Jews to bring the Passover sacrifice on the 14th of Nissan on the eve of Passover, this year and every year. The Passover sacrifice redeems Israel from spiritual excommunication and distinguishes between Israel and the nations [Ex. 12: 27,43], and it is a shield and protection against all of the unfounded demands of foreign nations to take possession of the land of Israel along with us [Ex. 13] It should be noted that the third President of the State of Israel, the late Zalman Shazar, found the courage in 5723[1963] when Pope Pius IV visited Israel to read him the verse from the Prophet Micha, chapter 4: For let all the peoples walk each one in the name of its god, but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever. Israel’s Chief Rabbis at that time protected the honor of Israel and refused to meet the pope. In 5760 [2000] Pope John Paul II visited Jerusalem. During his visits attempts were made by various agents to remove Israeli sovereignty from the Temple Mount, in an effort to demonstrate the sovereignty of a foreign rule and to allow the visit to take place without the presence of any representative of Israel on the holiest site of Judaism. These attempts failed because of vigorous public objections. The Rabbi of the Holy Sites and of the Kotel, Rav Shmuel Rabinovitz, has demonstrated commendable behavior in refusing to stop Jewish prayer at the Kotel during the present Pope’s visit, which is scheduled for Lag B’Omer.

The speedy reconciliation with the Pope after a series of unfortunate statements that he made against us does no honor to the People of Israel. All of the political and Torah authorities must do whatever they can to prevent the signing or holding of any agreement that deviates from the spirit of this document and must express their disapproval at the Catholic Restorationist trends whose aim is to nullify the sovereign power of the State of Israel and the status of the Jewish People, the People of Israel in the Land of Israel, its holy land. Please clarify your position to your people, to the State, and to the entire world. Show respect for the God of your forefathers, your city, and your nation and do not act grovel submissively before foreigners and disparage the stature of the people of Israel. In these difficult days we face a danger from Iran and the entire region working together with the seventy nations of the world, pushing us to continue to retreat. This only diminishes Jews, the nation, and the State of Israel and does irreversible damage to our deterrent power. Let all of the nations of the world see that My name is called upon you, and they shall fear you. Ever since the liberation of Jerusalem as a unified city by the Israeli Defense Forces in 5727 [1967] the nations and religions of the world have not reconciled themselves to the sovereignty and restoration of the Jewish people in their eternal capital where the Temple will eventually be rebuilt to serve the God of Israel, God of the world, and a king of Israel will again rule, a descendant of King David.Especially ever since the Oslo Accords in 5753 [1993], the Vatican acting as a state with theological views, signed a series of secret documents[1] with various agents in the State of Israel - behind the back of the citizens – These agents are totally devoid of any respect for the spiritual and diplomatic status of the Jewish people, and their main goal is to transfer Jewish national assets in Jerusalem to the hands of foreigners and to promote measures that will undermine the religious and political ownership of the People of Israel over their holy sites: first and foremost, the Temple Mount, the Kotel, and the entire Old City of Jerusalem, transferring them to the Vatican and international agents, which will inevitable seize them territorially from the State of Israel . Thus, too, is the plan for other sites in our holy land.

The Beit Din of the Sanhedrin declares that the representatives of the State of Israel may represent the Jewish People as long as they are acting as representatives of the Jewish People over history in accordance with its tradition and laws. Insofar as this is not the case, their representation is not legitimate. These representatives, even if they are acting in the manner of the kings of Judah Hezekiah and Zedekiah who showed the treasures of the Holy Temple to the agents of foreign powers, are not authorized to transfer ownership or absolute tenancy to lands and buildings in the Land of Israel to any foreign religious or political agent.

Therefore all of the documents which were drawn up by such representatives with the Vatican as a theological and diplomatic agents in opposition to the spiritual essence of the People of Israel are void. All of the agreements with the Vatican which have been made or will be made in this spirit are null and void and the Vatican should not believe that they will retain them. The Vatican as the head of all Christian church is responsible for the legacy of Rome which occupied Jerusalem, dispossessed its Jews, and destroyed their land. All of the Christian churches currently standing in Jerusalem are the product of the destruction of the Jewish people, their dispossession and exile to the Christian exile which Christianity glorifies in as being everlasting. This is in addition to the priceless treasures, both material and spiritual, belonging to the Jews which lie in the cellars of the Vatican, and the countless synagogues all over the world which were confiscated by the Vatican and its representatives and never returned to their rightful owners. Anyone who negotiates and signs any agreement to change the status of the State of Israel in its holy sites in Jerusalem and the Land of Israel is raising his hand against the Torah, against his own faith, his people, his land, against his own homeland and against the home of his fathers.There is a strict prohibition against approving any agreement that transfers state ownership to foreigners, and this has been set forth in the criminal code of the State of Israel. Continuing to seek favor in the eyes of the Church by making illegal agreements might end, God forbid, in devastating religious wars all over the world.

Wellington - The central bank of Fiji, where the military government rules under emergency powers, devalued its currency by 20 per cent on Wednesday, warning citizens that the move would increase inflation. A statement from the Reserve Bank in the capital Suva said a rise of about 20 per cent in the Fijian dollar's value over the last year was unsustainable and the devaluation was needed to lift exports and boost tourism. Both sectors are critical to the Fijian economy which has been hard hit since a military coup overturned the elected government in December 2006.The governor of the Reserve Bank, Savenaca Narube, was sacked on Tuesday after predicting that the economy was worsening and his deputy, Sada Reddy, was appointed to the position Wednesday.The bank statement said inflation was expected to rise immediately but would subside in the next 12 months.The Reserve Bank is asking all sections of Fiji's community to bear the burden of adjustment so that our economy can recover quickly and start to generate much needed employment,the statement said.

BIRAM, Israel – Displaced during war decades ago, the Christians of Biram have never given up their dream of returning to this destroyed village in the hills of northern Israel. They still hold Easter rites, weddings and funerals in a stone church, the only building left standing.Now, they are pinning their hopes on Pope Benedict XVI, who is visiting the Holy Land in May.Biram's former residents and their descendants, some 3,000 Catholics altogether, are asking their spiritual leader to speak for them. They were driven out of during the 1948 Mideast war that surrounded Israel's creation. Most Israeli leaders who dealt with Biram's case refused their repatriation, fearing it would set a precedent for millions of Palestinian refugees seeking to return to former properties.But the villagers argue their case is different because their hamlet was bombed years after the war ended, and that a 1952 court case paved the way for them to return.This pope must say the truth, said parishioner Edmond Rawis, 79, pointing toward where his house once stood.The villagers say they have written to the Vatican's ambassador in Jerusalem, Archbishop Antonio Franco. The ambassador said he is aware of the issue, but has not received a letter and does not know whether the pope will discuss Biram with his Israeli hosts.

Only Biram's church, the cemetery and the ruins of an ancient synagogue are still standing. Descendants return here to worship, marry, baptize their children and bury their dead in crypts that eerily resemble homes.On April 5, Palm Sunday, dozens of people holding candles and flowers sang and walked around the church before gathering inside. Women clambered up cobblestone stairs in high-heeled shoes and pantsuits. Giggling girls in white dresses tried to pull the heavy church bell rope as boys ran around, shrieking.Inside the small church, they sang hymns in Arabic and Aramaic, a language spoken at the time of Jesus. Biram's Christians belong to the Maronite church, which prays in Aramaic but follows the pope in Rome.During the 1948 war, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes, and their villages were either destroyed or left to deteriorate. Most fled to neighboring Arab countries, but some, like those of Biram, remained within Israel's borders and became citizens.Israeli forces expelled Biram's 1,000 villagers during the fighting, according to Adoram Schneidleder, an Israeli postdoctoral student studying the area's history. Some left for nearby Lebanon, but most stayed within Israel's newly created borders, mostly in the nearby Arab-Israeli village of Jish.For decades, the villagers have lobbied successive Israeli governments to return, meeting only rejection — except for a short-lived effort in the 1990s. Then, the Israeli government headed by Yitzhak Rabin offered restitution to a few of Biram's descendants on a small chunk of their ancestral lands.As they tried to negotiate a better deal, Rabin was assassinated in 1995 by a Jewish ultranationalist. Discussions were frozen, said Ran Cohen, a left-wing parliamentarian involved in government discussions.They have largely shelved their attempts in recent years as Israel lurched toward right-wing governments unsympathetic to their cause. But they say there's a chance to revive their issue if the pope leans his significant diplomatic weight on officials here.

In 2000, the pope's predecessor, John Paul II, asked then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak to resettle them in Biram, villagers say they were told by local Catholic officials at the time.An Israeli Foreign Ministry official, Yigal Palmor, said the issue should be pursued in the country's courts, and not through political lobbying.In 1952, the high court ruled that the eviction from Biram was not entirely legal, but military authorities then retroactively issued eviction notices, according to historians. Biram residents argue that the ruling opens the door for their return.In 1953, Israeli warplanes bombed Biram in an attempt to discourage the villagers from returning. Surviving residents said they wept and wailed as they watched bombs smash their homes from a nearby hilltop. Biram's church and the 3rd-century synagogue's ruins are now part of a national park that is a popular hiking destination. A sign at the park's entrance provides information on the synagogue but makes no mention of the Christian village or the area's modern history. In the nearby graveyard, Biram's dead are buried in crypts, fenced off from nearby grazing cows. Some are built like homes, with red-tile roofs overlooking blue-green hills. Israeli authorities have not objected to their quiet repossession of the cemetery, said a villager, Kamel Yakoub.
It's the liveliest place in Biram,Yakoub said.

THE FINAL PLUCKING OF AMERICA’S FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC SOVEREIGNTY

Believe as you will about the 2008 Credit Crisis but if you fail to recognize that the final pieces of America’s financial and economic sovereignty are being transferred in the name of finding a global solution to the crisis, then you will have believed those who intend to steal your assets next, as well as your freedom.

How could America’s financial sovereignty be plucked from her both at the domestic and international levels? It is not because of a five or even twenty-five year plan but one that may be hundreds of years old. This plan, I’m sure, did not happen all at once but took time to evolve. It is a diabolically brilliant strategy in its scheming. In order to understand, we need to review how the credit crisis will lead to the total transfer of America’s sovereignty.[Read The Coming Battle published in 1899, written by a man born before the civil war, predicting a battle between the people and the moneypower for freedom]First came the rise of a novel idea whereby the government would borrow from a private corporation, and pay a perpetual interest. The private corporation, known as a central bank, got its roots in 1688 from the Swedish, and then went to the Dutch and then the British. The core of the idea was for governments to borrow indefinitely without having to pay down the principal. When the newly founded colonies broke from the British, it was Alexander Hamilton who convinced George Washington that a central bank would be good for America, also. Years later, in 1833, President Andrew Jackson closed the Second National Bank (America’s central bank) routing out the power of its foreign investors and returning our government to sound money. It was not until 1913 that a central bank would be reestablished in America transferring the power to coin money from Congress to the Federal Reserve.Not without its own amount of chicanery and deceit did the Federal Reserve Bank come to pass. Other central banks were created as well. No one really knows who owns the Federal Reserve or the other central banks of the world. However, thanks to Prince Andrew’s series of documentaries about his forefathers, we now have proof that King William was the largest investor, £10,000, in the Bank of England in 1694. Might it be presumptuous to consider that if the British royal family invested in the Bank of England, they have probably invested in many other central banks since then to increase their wealth?

The Federal Reserve is not federal and it has no reserves. Money is printed on demand to lend to the American government. The Feds maintain their rights to charge us interest on the newly printed Federal Reserve Notes.Secondly, we have to understand that all the barriers between the countries of the world have fallen except one; the regulatory barrier. In 1944, the economic and financial barriers between countries fell with the establishment of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The political barriers fell with the creation of the United Nations in 1945; the trade barriers were removed in 1944 with the creation of the World Trade Organization; the legal barriers came down with the creation of the International Criminal Court in 1998; the military and intelligence barriers fell on September 11, 2001 with the attack on the World Trade Center in NYC. We are connected just as Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama have said. It should be noted that each of the global institutions have been busy setting up an infrastructure of their own since their respective inceptions. Please visit their websites.Thirdly, to integrate the world from a regulatory standpoint does not make sense if there was no reason, to. The 1994United Nations Development Programme Report explains all of the missing pieces of world government, which include an Economic Security Council, a World Central Bank, new credit facilities for the World Bank, increased Special Drawing Rights for the IMF, and a World Anti-Monopoly Authority. They specifically state: It will probably take some time and probably some international financial crisis—before a full-scale World Central Bank can be created(p.84). The last three were created at the G20 meeting.

Fourthly, we need to understand that the Treasury Blueprint for a Modernized Financial Regulatory System introduced by former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson in March, 2007, calls for the complete shift of America’s financial and economic national sovereignty to the care and oversight of the Federal Reserve, independent of Congress. The Blueprint, when issued, received the approval of then New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner, now our imminent treasury secretary. Has Obama changed the Blueprint? No, it is just tweaked here and there. The Blueprint calls for a new Federal Bank Charter which would put under Federal Reserve control financial institutions that are currently not regulated by them: savings and loans, credit unions, state chartered banks, and credit unions; it would provide for the insurance industry currently regulated on a state by state basis to be also put under federal control with Federal Reserve oversight; and it calls for the mortgage industry, which has not had any oversight, to be put under Federal Reserve oversight. There are calls for the Federal Reserve to have oversight over the entire Payment and Settlement system of Wall Street and for the Fed to act as Market Stability Regulator.While there were concerted steps that helped to create the credit crisis, i.e.: Clinton’s Community Reinvestment Act of 1994, the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999, and 45 year low interest rates as a result of 9/11 in 2001. All of these were major steps to create the right circumstances to transfer control over America’s financial and economic wealth.Fifthly, in October 2008 Congress gave a blank check to Hank Paulson to use powers and money that Congress appropriated to help fix the problem. Paulson used these powers to show Congress who he was and what he was going to do. His first act was to nationalize nine inside banks with TARP money, instead of using it to buy toxic mortgages. Congress is now at the mercy of the treasury secretary, without power to stop their spending. Sadly, while the treasury secretary is a change agent for the Federal Reserve, Congress appears to be so shocked and mesmerized by the entire crisis, that they want it fixed now at any cost.

All of the above now brings us to the Group of Twenty meeting. There is no way they could have accomplished what they did in one day because of the complexity, the many facets and players at the international level and the various agendas. Instead, the outcome was preplanned and again I refer to the 1994 Human Development Report mentioned above. It is hard for anyone to understand and follow the implications and nuances unless they are extremely familiar with the international level and the activities of the last 12-16 years, and history going back one hundred years.The G20 gave increasing powers and teeth to the Financial Stability Forum and changed its name to the Financial Stability Board. Established in 1999, its purpose was to monitor and bring together the G7 regulatory authorities. In a 2001 interview with Managing Director Svein Andressen, he told me, there was no guarantee that it [the FSF] is going to protect the system, but the efforts go in this direction. Because he was right, they have now been restructured. Did he know in advance how right he would be? The Financial Stability Board will not be just a meeting of representatives from the G7 countries, which would include the Central Bank governor, the treasury secretary and representatives from regulatory agencies , but it will now have its own structure with a steering committee and plenary. It will work with the International Monetary Fund on Early Warning exercises and it will be expanded to the G20 countries plus Spain, and the European Commission. Its goal will be to harmonize changes in national regulatory structures—risk, market integrity, consumer protection, infrastructure, accounting and auditing, to conform to a global structure. Perhaps we can look upon them as some type of Global Security and Exchange Commission.In other words, the teeth are being added to the international level: the Financial Stability Board, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank. Countries will now be ACCOUNTABLE and there will be repercussions if they are not. This constitutes another level in the transfer of national sovereignty. As the international level takes on more power, more funding in the form of Special Drawing Rights, new credit facilities, and a higher level of dues by every member country, the national level is reduced in power to the point where the federal level will basically be reduced to a state because the international level will take on the federal powers being transferred to them.America is being plucked from inside, via the credit crisis, at the federal level as our Congress agrees to transfer more power to the Federal Reserve and then at the international level where our Congress will be challenged to agree to what Obama promised in London. TAMPA, Fla. – A strong line of storms spawned at least three tornadoes Tuesday as it tore across central Florida, scattering roof shingles, uprooting trees and forcing schools to evacuate children from trailer classrooms.No injuries were immediately reported and the storms eventually moved off Florida's Atlantic coast. It was the latest round of bad weather to hammer the South after heavy rain and strong winds Monday that hit Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky and northern Florida, already reeling from storms and tornadoes last week.The National Weather Service was still tallying damage information, but initial reports were that three tornadoes had touched down north of Tampa and two others may have struck in central and east Florida.Twenty Florida counties were under a tornado watch for much of the day.To our knowledge, there's been no true structure damage and no injuries,said Jim Martin, Emergency Management Director for Pasco County north of Tampa, where at least one twister was spotted Tuesday morning,Martin said high winds damaged about 25 homes and flipped over one car. Randi Cecil, 24, was on her porch in the town of Sparr, about 90 miles north of Orlando, when the wind turned gusty and trees started swaying. Then a tree cracked so loud that it sounded like a car crash and smashed into her neighbor's bedroom.It was the most horrible feeling I ever went through,Cecil said.Progress Energy spokesman Tim Leljedal said more 70,000 customers experienced a power outage, mostly in the Ocala area in central Florida and in southern Pasco County, just north of Tampa. MADRID – The armed Basque separatist group ETA considered assassinating King Juan Carlos by attacking his plane or helicopter with a surface-to-air missile, Spain's interior minister said Monday.Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba told a news conference the plot was detected in 2004 when authorities seized ETA-related documents, but it never made it into the planning stages. He gave no further details.The newspaper El Correo reported over the weekend that several CDs found in France at an ETA hideout in 2004 showed the group had considered attacking the king with a surface-to-air missile while he flew by plane or helicopter, firing on the aircraft from near an airport or military base.The newspaper said French anti-terrorist police who found the CDs also found the remains of a spent missile cartridge, which it said showed ETA had carried out a real-fire test.The CDs said Spain's prime minister or Cabinet members could also be targeted, the newspaper said.It is true that there was a theoretical study that went no further than that ... On Sunday, ETA issued a statement warning it would make the next Basque regional government — due to be led by non-nationalists for the first time — a priority target.

VIENNA – The U.S. and five other world powers are planning talks on new strategies to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions, diplomats from the countries involved said Tuesday.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the ultimate goal of getting Iran to suspend its enrichment program remained unchanged.But three diplomats from countries involved in the discussions told The Associated Press that Washington and its negotiating partners were planning to review strategies on engaging Iran on its nuclear program. They are awaiting a formal reply from Tehran on a new meeting to follow up on the last, abortive session nearly a year ago.Obama administration officials declined to publicly discuss possible new strategies for dealing with Iran but said the immediate goal is to get Iran back to the negotiating table.One senior official said that could involve allowing Iran to continue enriching uranium at its current level for an as-yet undetermined length of time.That concession was agreed two years ago by the U.S. and the five other powers — Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany. The idea is to wrest a commitment from Iran not to increase its activities during the time it takes to arrange formal negotiations meant to reach a permanent agreement on the scope of Tehran's nuclear program.That could include tolerating some form of domestic enrichment on the part of Iran at some point in the future.

It also has rapidly expanded the number of machines used in the process from several hundred to thousands — the International Atomic Energy puts the number of operating centrifuges at more than 5,000, while Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad recently boasted of having more than 7,000 in place — although he did not say all were fully running.

While the former U.S. administration was adamant in insisting that Iran scrap its enrichment program, it softened its position two years ago when it and its negotiating partners told Tehran that they could accept a continuation of enrichment for the limited time it took to agree on the time, place and concrete topics of formal negotiations.But the concession failed to elicit a change from Iran's insistence that it would continue enrichment as part of its rights under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Saeb Erekat: I am sitting in Jericho, in the house where I was born, four kilometers from the Jordan River, and there are Israeli flags from the Jordan River all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, we are living under Israeli occupation. But let me say that Jerusalem has not been – and will not be – lost. Three hundred thousand Palestinian citizens live in Jerusalem.Jerusalem has not gone anywhere. Jerusalem is here to stay – in the same place throughout the ages. The important thing is for us to return and to liberate Jerusalem.It is true that the negotiations continued for many years, but don’t you know that President Yasser Arafat was besieged at Camp David and was killed unjustly, only because he adhered to Jerusalem, and because he refused to let the Israeli measures on the ground give rise to any [Israeli] right or any [Palestinian] obligation? The Palestinian negotiators could have given in in 1994, 1998, or 2000, and two months ago, brother Abu Mazen [i.e. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud 'Abbas] could have accepted a proposal that talked about Jerusalem and almost 100% of the West Bank, but it is not our goal to score points against one another here.

Our strategic goal, when we strive for peace, is not to do so at any price. We strive for peace on the basis of an Israeli withdrawal to the June 4, 1967 borders, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and with the West Bank and the Gaza Strip geographically connected.An Independent Palestinian State Within the 1967 Borders, With East Jerusalem As Its Capital – This Is What We Can Achieve in Our Generation.There will be no peace whatsoever unless East Jerusalem – with every single stone in it – becomes the capital of Palestine.In my family, we are seven siblings. My six brothers and sisters are in the diaspora. But this does not deny them the right to inherit this land. Ten million Palestinians own Palestine, just like I do. Our survival and steadfastness on this land, our wresting of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital – this is what we can achieve in our generation.

Arafat Told Clinton: I Will Not Be a Traitor; Abbas Told Olmert: I Am Not At a Marketplace or a Bazaar – I Came to Demarcate the Borders of Palestine – The June 4, 1967 Borders.Let me recount two historical events, even if I am revealing a secret. On July 23, 2000, at his meeting with President Arafat in Camp David, President Clinton said: You will be the first president of a Palestinian state, within the 1967 borders – give or take, considering the land swap – and East Jerusalem will be the capital of the Palestinian state, but we want you, as a religious man, to acknowledge that the Temple of Solomon is located underneath the Haram Al-Sharif.Yasser Arafat said to Clinton defiantly: I will not be a traitor. Someone will come to liberate it after 10, 50, or 100 years. Jerusalem will be nothing but the capital of the Palestinian state, and there is nothing underneath or above the Haram Al-Sharif except for Allah.That is why Yasser Arafat was besieged, and that is why he was killed unjustly.In November 2008… Let me finish… [Israeli prime minister Ehud] Olmert, who talked today about his proposal to Abu Mazen, offered the 1967 borders, but said: 'We will take 6.5% of the West Bank, and give in return 5.8% from the 1948 lands, and the 0.7% will constitute the safe passage, and East Jerusalem will be the capital, but there is a problem with the Haram and with what they called the Holy Basin.Abu Mazen too answered with defiance, saying: I am not in a marketplace or a bazaar. I came to demarcate the borders of Palestine – the June 4, 1967 borders – without detracting a single inch, and without detracting a single stone from Jerusalem, or from the holy Christian and Muslim places.This is why the Palestinian negotiators did not sign…TV host: Okay…Any Arrangements Regarding East Jerusalem Are Categorically Unacceptable.

Saeb Erekat: This is the Palestinian position.

TV host: But let’s return to Camp David. When you were at the meetings with Shlomo Ben-Ami… After two weeks of meetings between Barak, Arafat, and Clinton, which led to nothing, there was a meeting at which you proposed that there be [Palestinian] sovereignty, with arrangements in the Old City, including the Haram Al-Sharif. In other words, you proposed Palestinian sovereignty, with Israel playing a role in the administrative aspects. In other words, Israel would participate in the administration of the Haram area – unlike the reduced sovereignty demanded by Shlomo Ben-Ami at that meeting. In other words, you wanted to let [Israel] play a role, one way or another, with regard to the so-called Holy Basin.Saeb Erekat: They will never have this. Like President Abu Mazen said in front of President Bush and Prime Minister Olmert: I am not in a marketplace or a bazaar. East Jerusalem is an occupied area, just like Khan Yunis, Jericho, and Nablus were. Its status in international law will never be anything else. Therefore, any arrangements regarding East Jerusalem are categorically unacceptable.

Fiji devalues currency April 15, 2009 - 12:46PM

Fiji's central bank has slashed the value of its currency by 20% as political turmoil sends the country's economy tumbling.The devaluation was announced on Wednesday with immediate effect by Reserve Bank Governor Sada Reddy just hours after he was appointed to the post following the removal of the previous governor by the military regime.Fiji's political crisis deepened last week when armed forces chief Commodore Frank Bainimarama seized greater control of the troubled nation following a court ruling that declared his coup-installed government illegal.The bank said in a statement that the currency devaluation would boost tourism and exports in Fiji - two sectors that have plunged since Bainimarama overturned the elected government in 2006.

Internet bans

Meanwhile, Fiji's internet cafes are under pressure to close and government workers have lost web access as the country's military ruler declared free speech causes trouble.Frank Bainimarama, who led a 2006 coup and has appointed himself head of the new military government, on Wednesday said freedom of speech must be curbed to allow his regime to carry out new reforms.We want to come up with these reforms and the last thing we want to do is have opposition to these reforms throughout, he said.

Asked about every country's need to have open and free discussions, Bainimarama said: Not in Fiji.Several blog websites carrying news from Fiji say internet cafe owners have been told to shut down while their business permits, internet networks, software, technology and archives are investigated and approved by government officials.These so-called internet investigators say they have been ordered to conduct the investigation under the new laws,says the website Raw Fiji News.Owners have so far resisted and access remains open, it said.

Workers cut off

Blogs also claim workers have been denied internet access at work.The civil service have been put on a strict internet ban disabling internet connection to their workstations straight from the ITC Suva office, the information technology arm of government, the blogsite said.Civil servants report that they are forbidden from discussing anti-regime matters in the office and are discouraged from reading blogs after hours.The internet remains the only way for locals and tourists to get uncensored information about the political unrest after tough media restrictions were put in place to limit all non-positive reporting of political events.This follows a string of events that saw the abrogation of the country's 1997 constitution and removal of senior personnel from banking, judicial and police posts, because they do not suit the military regime's new order.

International journalists have been deported, including ABC correspondent Sean Dorney, and the broadcaster has been ordered to shutdown its two FM transmitters.All local news organisations must have coverage vetted by government officials before it can be released, and a local journalist was detained overnight after giving footage to a New Zealand television station.Bainimarama again reminded Fijians today that their freedoms were a matter for him and his government.We now decide what needs to be done for our country,he said.

Poland asks for €15.5bn credit line from IMF

Poland announced on Tuesday (14 April) that it will apply for a €15.5 billion ($20.5bn) credit line from the International Monetary Fund.Warsaw is to make the request via a new lending facility created by the International Monetary Fund last month to enable primarily emerging countries with strong economic fundamentals to bolster their finances in a pre-emptive bid to prevent financial difficulties from arising.

Speaking in Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his government would apply to be given access to the funds from the IMF's Flexible Credit Line (FCL) over a one-year period, making it the second country to apply to the facility after Mexico indicated interest in a $47 billion credit line earlier this month.I am very pleased by this positive response from Poland to the invitation I extended to strongly performing economies to use this new instrument to bolster international confidence, IMF managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said in a statement.Poland has a sustained record of sound economic policies,he said.Its economic fundamentals and policy framework are strong, and the Polish authorities have demonstrated a commitment to maintaining this solid record.Mr Strauss-Kahn added he would seek quick approval for the credit line from the fund's executive board. Analysts endorsed the move on Tuesday, saying it was partially designed to reassure jittery markets of the Polish government's capacity to maintain stable currency values and service current debt obligations. Access to the credit line is also expected to help the Polish government reduce the cost of issuing bonds by allaying concerns of a potential debt default.The zloty rose against the euro yesterday after the news was announced, finishing close to 4.24 to the euro compared to a mid-February low of 4.9 to the euro.

The FCL was established on 24 March along with a wider package of IMF reforms.

Unlike the more standard lending facilities at the fund, which provide loans to trouble-stricken countries on condition they implement certain economic reforms, the FCL is only available to states whose finances are considered to be in good order but who could benefit from further access to financing.This no-strings-attached approach has helped greatly reduce the stigma historically associated with loan applications from the IMF, a development underscored by the market's positive reaction to the news on Tuesday.

The International Monetary Fund needs nothing short of a transformation to stimulate emerging markets and monitor the financial system, the Institute of International Finance, a group of global banks, said yesterday.Charles Dallara, managing director of the IIF, said pledges to increase the IMF’s funding by the Group of 20 leaders at their summit in London this month were welcome, but could be bogged down by legislatures. With IMF resources potentially under strain, Mr Dallara was concerned about vagueness in G20 commitments. Economists have criticised the G20 for announcing $1,100bn ($834bn, £749bn) of funds for the IMF when some money is not committed and some was already in the pipeline.Mr Dallara has written to Youssef Boutros-Ghali, chairman of the IMF international monetary and finance committee, to lay out suggestions for a transformation of the fund. He said monitoring of the financial system should include private sector involvement; the fund must not be afraid of tackling imbalances such as a large US current account deficit and a larger Chinese current account surplus. Calling the G7 group of industrialised economies increasingly irrelevant, he said the G7 and IMF should reflect a changed world order.

The story of the Bank of England is the story of the British Empire. The British Empire was never a political empire. It was always a monetary financial empire, as much a parasite on the people of Great Britain as the rest of the world. The idea of the Victorian’s British Empire bringing civilisation to the darkest parts of the world is one that needs real reconsideration by many Britons.The Bank of England was originally set up as a core part of the British Empire - making huge profits from loans to the British East India Company and other tendrils of the Great British parasite. The mainstays of the trading activities of these companies were drugs, warfare and the looting of raw materials from poverty stricken nations.As the banker to the Government, the Bank also did quite nicely from lending to the Treasury, thank you very much. In those days, the profits of the Bank went into the hands of the shareholders.In 1844, the Rothschild inspired desire to take complete control of Britain came true with the Bank Charter Act. This gave the Bank of England the monopoly on the production of Sterling, and control of Britain’s money supply. In Northern Ireland and Scotland, where to this day commercial banks are allowed to print their own money, they must have one Bank of England note in reserve for every note of their own that they issue.1946 brought the nationalisation of the Bank. At the end of WWII, Britain was more or less bankrupt, so it was agreed that instead of paying cash for the shares of the Bank, shareholders would receive 3% Treasury stock instead. With the 1946 Bank of England Act, all the Bank shares were transferred into the possession of the Treasury solicitor, and there they are to this day. It remains a corporation, not a government department.In 1977, the Bank set up a wholly owned subsidiary called BANK OF ENGLAND NOMINEES LIMITED, (BOEN), a private limited company, no. 1307478, with 2 of its 100 £1 shares issued. According to its Memorandum & Articles of Association, its objectives are;-To act as Nominee or agent or attorney either solely or jointly with others, for any person or persons, partnership, company, corporation, government, state, organisation, sovereign, province, authority, or public body, or any group or association of them….

Bank of England Nominees Limited was granted an exemption by Edmund Dell, Secretary of State for Trade, from the disclosure requirements under Section 27(9) of the Companies Act 1976 , because, it was considered undesirable that the disclosure requirements should apply to certain categories of shareholders.Add that to the fact that the Bank of England is protected from prying eyes by its Royal Charter status and the Official Secrets Act. What have we got here? In 1998, the final piece of the puzzle fell into place. In return for fixing the 1997 elections and getting New Labour into power, the Government enacted the 1998 Bank of England Act, which gave the Bank’s Court of Directors complete independence with regard to monetary policy.

So if we add this all together, we have a nationally owned institution which has the monopoly in the production of the national currency, and has independent control of the country’s monetary policy in the hands of a Court of Directors who serve the private banking system as they have since the Bank was established.Think about it - private banking control of our currency and monetary policy, fully independent of government. When Gordon Brown signed away government oversight of the Bank, he committed Treason on a scale not seen in Britain since the Heath government took us into what would become the EU.Since 1998 we have seen the Bank rapidly inflate the money supply, while at the same time relaxing regulation on how banks could lend. No longer were banks required to have cash in reserve for loans they made. Instead the vast majority of currency entering the economy did so as a result of commercial banks entering some numbers into a ledger - money out of thin air, literally.Working for the private bankers, the Bank of England set things up to maximise the returns for their banking colleagues’ speculative activities, in the full knowledge that as a nationalised institution, it would be the UK taxpayer who was carrying all the risk, and not, as would have been the case before 1946, the shareholders.The Court of Directors is working for the Anglo/Dutch/Saudi empire - the still-alive-and-kicking hidden hand behind the British Empire of the Victorian age. So it’s no surprise that the solution they provide to today’s manufactured monetary financial collapse is to print more money. Their aim is to destroy the last vestiges of British sovereignty; for a hyper-inflated and hyper-devalued Sterling to be replaced by a single, global, currency, under a single world fascist government.Gordon Brown announced the new financial infrastructure at the G20. NEW YORK – Wall Street shifted into reverse Tuesday after a surprisingly weak retail sales report punctured investors' optimism about the economy.The poor sales data, combined with a sharp drop in wholesale prices, came just as the corporate earnings season, usually a volatile time in the market, got under way. The Dow Jones industrials lost nearly 140 points.Underscoring the market's sensitivity, shares in Intel Corp. fell sharply in after-hours trading after the chipmaker reported weaker results after the bell and didn't offer a forecast for revenue.Investors are already braced for bad earnings but are highly anxious about forecasts from companies that could indicate a weaker economy. Poor outlooks in the last earnings season in January derailed a 20 percent rally, and some fear the market's current five-week rally could be vulnerable as well.Financial stocks tumbled after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. announced strong profits but said it would raise $5 billion to repay government bailout money. Investors speculated that other major banks might follow suit, which would put pressure on their stocks. Citigroup Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are also due to report results this week.The Dow closed down 137.63, or 1.7 percent, at 7,920.18.Broader measures also lost ground after three days of gains. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 17.23, or 2 percent, to 841.50, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 27.59, or 1.7 percent, to 1,625.72.

Tuesday's selling was orderly and extended a give-and-take pattern the market has followed since halting a steep slide over the first two months of the year. Stocks have risen from 12-year lows since then on hopes that banks are getting through the worst of their problems and the economy might be bottoming out, though both the Dow and S&P 500 are still below where they started the year.The unexpected 1.1 slump in retail sales in March undermined the market's brightening outlook for the economy. The drop was far worse than the increase of 0.3 percent that analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected and marked the biggest fall in three months. Investors watch retail sales trends closely as a barometer of consumer spending, which makes up two-thirds of U.S. economic activity.The choppy data that we're seeing, whether it's economic or earnings, reminds us that we're still not out of the woods, said Sean Simko, head of fixed income management at SEI Investments in Philadelphia.The market always has a tendency to go too far too fast.Investors took little comfort from speeches by President Barack Obama and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that there have been hopeful signs about the economy but that a sustained recovery won't arrive quickly.A separate report on wholesale prices gave another poor reading on the economy.The Labor Department said wholesale prices tumbled 1.2 percent in March as the cost of gasoline, other energy products and food fell sharply. Falling prices fan worries about a spiraling effect where consumers and businesses would cut spending out of fear that they would pay too much for something today that could be worth less tomorrow.The drop in stocks followed more signs that some companies reporting earnings for the first quarter might be able to top Wall Street's modest expectations.

After the end of trading Tuesday, railroad operator CSX said its first-quarter profit fell 30 percent from a year earlier, but the results came in well above Wall Street's expectations.Johnson & Johnson said before the opening bell that its first-quarter profit dipped, but not as much as expected. The health care products maker was one of four stocks among the 30 that make up the Dow industrials to show a gain. The stock rose 22 cents to $51.37.Goldman released its results a day early Monday, reporting after the end of trading that it earned $1.66 billion in the quarter, well above what analysts were expecting. The company said it would raise $5 billion in stock in hopes of repaying the $10 billion investment it received from the government last year.

Goldman shares fell $15.04, or 11.6 percent, to $115.11 after its stock offering was priced at $123 per share, a discount of 5.5 percent to Monday's closing price. Most other financial stocks slid. JPMorgan fell $3, or 8.9 percent, to $30.70, while Morgan Stanley fell $3.22, or 12 percent, to $23.67. Jeffrey Frankel, president of Stuart Frankel & Co. in New York, says investors are braced for the worst during earnings season. There is very little that could come out that will spook traders, he said. In other market moves, the Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 14.83, or 3.2 percent, to 453.22. Two stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock Exchange, where consolidated volume came to 7.3 billion shares compared with 6.3billion shares traded Monday.Bond prices rose after the weak economic readings. That pushed the yield on the 10-year Treasury note down to 2.79 percent from 2.86 percent late Monday.The dollar was mixed against other major currencies, while gold prices fell. Light, sweet crude fell 64 cents to settle at $49.41 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average fell 0.9 percent. Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.1 percent, Germany's DAX index gained 1.5 percent, and France's CAC-40 rose 0.9 percent.

Polish media uncover evidence of CIA prison

Journalists from Polish TV station TVP and daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita say they have obtained new evidence that Poland ran a secret CIA prison used for extra-judicial extradition of terrorism suspects.The evidence - documents and witness statements related to a Polish judicial investigation to see if the facility undermined Polish sovereignty - point the finger at the country's former Socialist government.The new information suggests that in December 2001, Poland designated 20 secret service agents to help in Washington's new war on terror and leased part of a military base in Stare Kiejkuty in the northwest of the country to the US.

Clandestine US flights to the nearby Szymany airport begn in December 2002. At least five subsequent flights by a suspicious Gulfstream jet landed in Szymany in 2003.On four occasions, the flights had top security clearance, which could only have been granted by a handful of senior Polish officials. On two occasions - 8 February and 6 March 2003 - the European civil aviation authority, Eurocontrol, was told the planes had landed in Warsaw when they had in fact stopped in Szymany.A witness called by the Polish investigation has stated that in 2003 he saw People in handcuffs, with blindfolds on, led from the plane.The European Commission has in the past said that any EU country found to be in violation of basic human rights could face sanctions. Previous probes by the European Parliament and the Strasbourg-based Council of Europe also accused Poland of collusion but found no hard evidence.
