A stunning video posted on the Internet is evidence that revenge and honor killings are on the increase in Egypt, according to an expert on the region.Middle East analyst Theodore Shoebat, the son of former terrorist Walid Shoebat, says the killing is related to the Islamic practice of honor killing.Shoebat says the killing itself is out of revenge, but it can be labeled an honor killing.“It’s a revenge killing, a type of honor killing nevertheless,” Shoebat said, explaining that the man was doing the killing to restore honor to his family.“The reports from the Middle East say that the killer slaughtered the woman because she was the mother of a man who had killed his brother a year ago,” Shoebat said.“Her house was attacked by the perpetrator at an earlier time, so she went into hiding. But, when she had [gone] to the butcher shop, wearing a burka so that no one would recognize her, she was recognized by somebody who had then told the [perpetrator],” Shoebat said.Shoebat says the video of the killing shows it was in broad daylight, and in front of a crowd.“The [perpetrator] took a knife and slaughtered her in broad day light so that everyone in the neighborhood could see. The reason why the people consented to the killing is because of the Near Eastern culture of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,” Shoebat said.Center for Security Policy analyst and senior fellow Clare Lopez says vigilante actions like this will become more common in a Shariah-compliant Egypt.“Unfortunately for women, Copts, and other non-Muslim minorities in Egypt, this is not some extraordinary, unheard of sort of attack,” Lopez said.“Islamic law (Shariah), which Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi and his Ikhwan cohorts want to enforce strictly throughout Egypt, mandates that a woman’s status is only one-half that of a male Muslim’s and that she must submit to him in all things. According to the Quran and Islamic law, the Muslim husband has the right to beat her, rape her, marry other women, and have sex with as many prisoners of war and slave concubines as he can get his hands on,” Lopez said.“Reportedly, this woman is being stabbed to death in front of an approving crowd of other men in revenge for a killing attributed to her son. While revenge killing of this sort is not in accord with Islamic law (which requires that accused murderers be brought before a judge), it is a cultural practice that may be on the rise in Egypt as 7th century norms championed by the Muslim Brotherhood once again motivate those like these villagers to take justice into their own hands, rightly or wrongly according to Shariah,” Lopez said.
Islam analyst and Jihad Watch publisher Robert Spencer says the video was truly terrible.“This is a horrifying video, showing vividly the savagery of Islamic honor killing. Many Muslim countries have light penalties for honor murders, and attempts to stiffen those penalties are resisted by Muslim clerics,” Spencer said.

A disturbing thing happened in the course of Binyamin Netanyahu's

The news agencies sell their reports and photos to newspapers, websites and television stations, which are the ones who pass the materials on to the end consumer. The agencies essentially serve as reporters-for-hire, for news outlets that rely on them to cover the events in a purely professional manner.Therefore, it takes a journalist to fully recognize the apparently base and manipulative nature of what the agencies did. “Honor killing is not a cultural practice, it is an Islamic practice. There are those who would like you to believe that honor killing is just a cultural practice and has nothing to do with Islam. That is a flat lie,” Gabriel said.“You do not see Christians or Jews who come from the Arabic or Islamic world killing their mothers, daughters, wives or sisters in the name of honor. This is why women’s organizations in America are not saying a word or standing up in defense of this barbaric practice. She was slowly being stabbed to death and was screaming from the pains of the continuous stabbings,” Shoebat said.
Gabriel says technology is making it easier to record what’s happening in the Muslim world.“Thankfully we now have cell phones that can record such horrible murders and show them so that the civilized world will see what we are dealing with when it comes to Islam and its practices,” Gabriel said.“For those who say society’s equal, this type of video shows that those who murder their own (or people they know) in the name of honor have no soul and no conscience,” Gabriel said.Shoebat says the number of such killings will only get bigger.“You will be seeing an increase in these murders as long as the Muslim Brotherhood remains in power. Egypt’s Christians, facing the fate of Egyptian Jews

After the Egyptian military took
power in the country 1952, it started its campaign against Egyptian
Jews, launching its propaganda against Jews in all the state-owned
media. It freed all the terrorists who had committed violence against
Jews before the coup, and jailed liberals and seculars instead. It
encouraged aggression toward the Egyptian Jewish minority, which led to
new terrorist attacks against Jewish individuals and properties in
Egypt.Between 1954 and 1956, 80,000 Egyptian Jews
were expelled from Egypt, but not before they were robbed of their
property. After that, Egypt revoked their citizenship, forbidding them
from returning to their homeland. Of course, before they left, Egyptian
authorities forced them to sign papers saying that they had been treated fairly
and were leaving of their own will. There are currently around 300 Jews
living in Egypt, isolated in an environment that is hostile to them.The Christian minority in Egypt (known as
Copts) reacted in a very selfish way at the time, choosing not to
interfere in the crisis so as to avoid any harm. They thought that if
they took the side of the dictatorship, they would be safe. Obviously,
it didn’t work.After the Egyptian military expelled Jews and
outlawed Bahais and Shias, they started their campaign against
Christians. The Egyptian regime has maintained since that time a very
fundamental understanding of Islam, and forced it through the media and
the education system. Violent attacks against Christians became
increasingly frequent, and most of the time no one was prosecuted.The Egyptian regime created an uncomfortable
situation for Christians in order to force them to leave the country.
And the evidence shows that it worked. Some 4 million Egyptian Christians have
emigrated from Egypt over the last 60 years, representing one-third of
the entire Coptic population, and comprising nearly 75% of Egyptians
living abroad.But Egyptian authorities are not satisfied
with that. After Mohammed Morsi acceded to power, he decided to speed up
this process. The Egyptian regime used the film “Innocence of Muslims”
to start a huge propaganda campaign against Egyptian Christians. And of
course, Christians in Egypt are becoming increasingly isolated under
this propaganda. Violence against Christians occurs every day, and the
state usually takes the side of the Muslim murderers.It isn’t inconceivable that as a way of
protecting this operation, the Egyptian state sponsored the attacks on
foreign embassies. A group of poor thugs were paid and led to the
American Embassy in Cairo to attack it, while they didn’t know where
they were, or why they were there. Similar attacks occurred in other
countries in which the Egyptian Intelligence has power. Not a single
attack on a foreign embassy occurred outside the sphere of Egyptian
influence. But Western countries cared more about their own interests in
Muslim countries, and as usual surrendered to the racist blackmail of
the Egyptian regime.The Egyptian state is also excessively using
the laws forbidding criticism of Islam. At least five Christians are now
imprisoned in Egypt under the accusation of “insulting Islam.” Ayman Youssef Mansour, a 22-year-old blogger, was sentenced in October 2011 to three years because of comments about Islam on his Facebook page. Gamal Abdou Masoud,
a 17-year-old kid, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment last
January because he was tagged on Facebook in a picture that criticized
Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. Makarem Diab Said,
a teacher from Asyut, was sentenced in April 2012 to six years’
imprisonment, because he said some aggressive words against Islam during
a quarrel with one of his colleagues at work. Bishoy El-Beheri was also sentenced this September to six years’ imprisonment on two charges: insulting Islam, and insulting Morsi, the new president.But perhaps the most poignant is the case of Alber Saber,
a 27-year-old atheist from a Christian family. He was a hyperactive
person since before the revolution. I first met him after I was released
from prison last year. After that, he repeatedly asked me to launch a
big campaign in Egypt to spread secular ideas. He was super-active on
social media, criticizing religion and promoting atheism. Alber was
arrested on September 13, and is now being tried under accusations of
“insulting God” and “insulting Islam.” We are leading an international
campaign on Facebook and Twitter
calling for his freedom, in the hope that people will realize that
dictatorships never stop. As long they exist, there will be new victims
every day, and this new victim can be anyone.The aim of the Egyptian regime in using this
charge against Christians and atheists from Christian background is to
create a status of panic and intimidation among Christians and to make
them leave Egypt. Obviously, it’s working. Tens of thousands of Egyptian
Christians are leaving their homeland every month, and Western
countries are opening their doors to them in the knowledge that they
could soon face genocide in their country.Will Egyptian Christians face the same destiny
as Egyptian Jews? Will the Egyptian regime manage to get rid of
Christians and other minorities? Do the Muslim Brothers want to exclude
Christians from the voting process because Christians usually vote for
secular parties? Will Egypt lose more and more of its diversity? Only

Greece, Spain up for more austerity despite violence

BRUSSELS - Outbursts of violence in
both Greece and Spain are not preventing the respective governments from
pushing ahead with the further austerity measures asked for by
international lenders.
After weeks of haggling, the three-party coalition in Greece on Thursday (27 September) announced a "basic agreement" on €11.5 billion worth of spending cuts needed for the next tranche of bailout money to be disbursed.But one of the three leaders, Fotis Kouvelis, said there were still some "outstanding issues", without giving any details. Centre-right Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has struggled to convince his two junior coalition partners from the left to agree to more wage and pension cuts.Popular anger against the cuts turned violent on Wednesday as over 50,000 gathered in Syntagma square with riot police firing tear gas on protesters. A general strike also paralysed transportation into and throughout the country, as well as hospitals and schools.Similar violence erupted in Spain ahead of a fresh set of spending cuts the government was set to approve later on Thursday.Spain is under a 'light' bailout of €100bn for its banking sector but is expected to ask for more financial assistance soon, as the recession is worsening and unemployment has hit 25 percent, the highest in Europe."The violent images from Spain and Greece prove that this violent austerity inevitably leads to social tension," Greek leftist leader Alexis Tsipras said Thursday during a press conference in the European Parliament in Brussels.Greece will inevitably need to have a second and possibly even a third debt restructuring, according to Tsipras, unless EU leaders agree to slash all its debt and give some "breathing space" to the economy.Tsipras said this could be done with a "debt conference" as happened for Germany after the second World War, when 60 percent of the country's debt was pardoned and the rest had to be repaid once the economy the started growing.He criticised the current Greek government for having promised to re-negotiate the terms of the bailout only to agree to all prescribed austerity measures a few months later."It is a dead end, a vicious circle of austerity, recession, deficit and debt. Cloud computing a "game-changer" for EU economy, Kroes says

Neelie Kroes unveiled the EU's long awaited cloud computing strategy on
Thursday (27 September), describing it as a "game-changer" for the
European economy.
The commission says that a €45 billion investment in cloud technology could generate just under €1 trillion in GDP in addition to 3.8 million jobs by 2020.Cloud computing uses an online network of servers, storage applications and computer services which can be accessed on-demand via the Internet.As a result, users do not need to invest in their own IT infrastructures or be constrained by the physical location of their computer resources.Speaking at a press conference to launch the strategy, Kroes said that "the single market is our crown jewel, cutting costs and boosting business: a European cloud strategy gives our single market a new, digital home."She said the commission will not develop its own "European super cloud" but will focus instead on developing a common EU rulebook for cloud services. It wants to establish an EU-wide certification and model contract scheme for cloud providers and a single set of technical standards.The global cloud computing market is the fasted growing sector of the IT industry and will rise from $21.5 billion in 2010 to $73 billion in 2015 according to research by the International Data Corporation.Software giant Microsoft says cloud computing will create 11.3 million jobs in the world economy by 2014.Software industry representatives have welcomed the EU strategy.Stephen Collins, vice-president of Microsoft, called it a "significant milestone for cloud computing in Europe."Jonathan Zuck, the chief of the Association for Competitive Technology, a Washington-based lobby group with an office in Brussels, told EUobserver that small businesses stand to make the most gains from cloud services due to potential 80 percent reduction in IT costs.Urging the commission to focus on harmonising its digital single market, he added that Brussels should "break down political barriers to cloud services."One of the main potential savings for businesses is that computing is to become an operating cost rather than capital expenditure in terms of accountancy rules.
The commission suggests that organisations using cloud technology would save 20-50 percent in IT spending.Over 60 percent firms in Europe already use cloud technology, but have tended to use it for non-business services due to a lack of knowledge and trust in the network.The main business and consumer concerns with cloud services centre on the security and location of data, the applicable law and legal jurisdiction, as well as portability between services for firms that already use cloud in one or more areas.
One of the first legislative tests for EU cloud services will be the plans to re-write the bloc's data protection rules.So far, the EU has made little cash investment in cloud computing. The €10.5 million Optimis project became the first EU-funded piece of cloud software when it was launched in JuneDespite Kroes efforts, Europe's IT industry still harbours concerns that delays in breaking down barriers to a European cloud network could see them fall further behind the US.Thomas Boue of the Business Software Alliance, a Brussels-based lobby group, said the EU should "align privacy and security rules so that data can flow across international borders."

Alleged Russian spies wanted EU and Nato secrets

BRUSSELS - Germany has indicted two alleged Russian spies who tried to get hold of EU and Nato secrets.The office of the German federal prosector said in a statement on Thursday
(27 September) that the married couple, who were arrested last year,
"had the task of gathering information about the political and military
strategy of the EU and Nato."It added that between 2008 and 2011 they worked with a Russian agent
in the Dutch foreign ministry who gave them "official" EU and Nato
documents.It said they also gave Moscow their "own information" collected from
German political and social contacts about relations between Germany,
Russia, the EU and Nato.It noted that the Russian foreign intelligence service, the SVR, paid
them about €100,000 a year. They used to get their SVR instructions via
shortwave radio. They filed reports using satellite communications and a
video link on the Internet. They used dead drops to get material from
the Dutch agent.The prosecutor also noted that they were born in South America and came to Germany in 1988 with fake Austrian identities.They used the aliases "Heidrun A." and "Andreas A." and created a "bourgeois existence" to cover up their activities.For its part, German magazine Spiegel Online on Thursday said that 52-year-old Heidrun was born in Peru and that 46-year-old Andreas was born in Argentina.It noted that Heidrun studied mechanical and plastics engineering in
Aachen after moving to Germany. They got married in 1990 and had a
daughter.The magazine added that they lived in a modest property in Michelbach, near Stuttgart.It said Heidrun was talking on the radio with her SVR superior on 18
October last year when German special police stormed the house and that
she was "so frightened" that she fell of her chair, pulling a set of
wires out of the wall.They are to be prosecuted at the Stuttgart regional court.The last big spy scandal in Europe concerned Herman Simm, an Estonian
defence ministry official who gave thousands of internal Estonian, EU
and Nato documents to the SVR.He was jailed in 2009 for 12 and a half years.The head of Belgium's state security service, the VSSE, recently told
EUobserver in an interview that: "In Belgium, espionage, Russian

India and Thailand to Kenya and Bulgaria. They’ve even plotted to blow
up a restaurant a few blocks from the White House in order to kill a
diplomat.”A rumor among journalists suggested — though
no source could confirm on Thursday — that Netanyahu was asked by the
American administration to thank President Obama for his own rhetoric on
Iran in his speech Tuesday. It is, after all, campaign season.If the rumor is true, Netanyahu disappointed, giving no ground to indicate he saw eye to eye with the US president.“Two days ago, from this podium, President
Obama reiterated that the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran cannot be
contained,” he began. And while he noted, “I very much appreciate the
president’s position as does everyone in my country,” he would only add
that “Israel is in discussions with the United States over this issue,
and I am confident that we can chart a path forward together.”In fact, he offered a hinted admonishment,
explaining to the American president, “What I have said today will help
ensure that this common goal is achieved.”In simple language, Netanyahu then laid out a beginner’s explanation of his position:“Basically, any bomb consists of explosive
material and a mechanism to ignite it. The simplest example is gunpowder
and a fuse. That is, you light the fuse and set off the gunpowder,” he

nuclear weapon, the gunpowder is enriched uranium. The fuse is a nuclear
detonator. For Iran, amassing enough enriched uranium is far more
difficult than producing the nuclear fuse.”Since for Iran it “takes many, many years to

big industrial plants,” during the enrichment phase, Iran’s program is
“vulnerable.”However, if Iran completes enrichment and is
left with only a detonator to build — a device that can be manufactured
“in a small workshop the size of a classroom” in a country “bigger than
France, Germany, Italy and Britain combined” — it will be impossible to
locate and destroy the program at that point.“The relevant question is not when Iran will
get the bomb. The relevant question is at what stage can we no longer
stop Iran from getting the bomb,” Netanyahu concluded.Netanyahu’s speech was aired, at least in
part, on US cable networks. While pundits mocked, millions of Americans
heard a simple, clear argument that Iran was quickly reaching a point
when its nuclear program would be beyond the reach of Western
intervention.Netanyahu is electioneering. Whether he is

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Thursday that Iran
will have enough enriched uranium to make a nuclear bomb by next summer
and urged the world to draw a clear "red line" to stop it in its
tracks.Saying it was getting "late, very late" to stop Iran, Netanyahu
flashed a diagram showing the progress Iran has made toward creating a
bomb. He said Iran had already completed the first stage of uranium
enrichment, and then he drew his own red line on the diagram to
highlight the point of no return — the completion of the second stage
and 90 percent enrichment."Iran is 70 percent of the way there and ... well into the second
stage. By next summer, at current enrichment rates, they will have
finished the medium enrichment and move on to the final stage,"
Netanyahu said. "From there it is only a few more weeks before they have
enriched enough for a bomb."Netanyahu has repeatedly argued that time is running out to stop the
Islamic Republic from becoming a nuclear power and the threat of force
must be seriously considered."I believe that faced with a clear red line, Iran will back down —
and it will give more time for sanctions and diplomacy," the Israeli
prime minister said. "Red lines don't lead to war, red lines prevent war
... nothing could imperil the world more than a nuclear-armed Iran."Netanyahu's speech marks perhaps his final plea before Israel takes
matters into its own hands. Israeli leaders have issued a series of
warnings in recent weeks suggesting that if Iran's uranium enrichment
program continues it may soon stage a unilateral military strike,
flouting even American wishes.The Obama administration has urgently sought to hold off Israeli
military action, which would likely result in the U.S. being pulled into
a conflict and cause region-wide mayhem on the eve of American
elections.Israel considers a nuclear-armed Iran to be an existential threat,

destruction, its development of missiles capable of striking the Jewish
state and its support for hostile Arab militant groups."Given this record of Iranian aggression without nuclear weapons,
just imagine Iranian aggression with nuclear weapons," Netanyahu said.
Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes but Israel,
the U.S. and other Western allies reject the claim. Four rounds of U.N.
sanctions have already been placed on Iran.A U.N. report last month only reinforced Israeli fears, finding that
Iran has moved more of its uranium enrichment activities into fortified
bunkers deep underground where there are impervious to air attack.
Enrichment is a key activity in building a bomb, though it has other
uses as well, such as producing medical isotopes.While Israel is convinced that Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon,
American officials believe Iran has not yet made a final decision to
take the plunge, even as it develops much of the infrastructure needed
to do so.Obama has repeatedly said he will not allow Iran to gain nuclear
weapons and has said the U.S. would be prepared to use force as a last
resort.Israel's timeline for military action is shorter than that of the
United States, which has far more powerful bunker-busting bombs at its

Abbas also said he has opened talks on a new bid for international

General Assembly to vote."Intensive consultations with the various regional organizations and the state members" were underway, he said.The Palestinians will apply to the General Assembly for nonmember state status.That stands in sharp contrast to last year, when they asked the
Security Council to admit them as a full member state, but the bid
failed.Abbas insisted that the new quest for recognition was "not seeking to

(AP) — Fighting over Syria's largest city intensified Friday, with the
most widespread battles reported there in two months as rebel forces
launched a new offensive to rout President Bashar Assad's forces from Aleppo, activists said.Some
of the heaviest fighting erupted in the predominantly Kurdish
neighborhood of Sheikh Maksoud, which was drawn into the conflict for
the first time. Kurds make up Syria's largest minority and have been
split in their loyalties.Since the uprising against Assad
began 18 months ago, some Kurds have sided with the rebels while others
have supported the regime. Aleppo's Sheikh Maksoud neighborhood is
mostly under the control of a pro-government Kurdish group. There were
conflicting reports on whether Kurdish gunmen took part in Friday's
fighting.Aleppo, a city of 3 million that was once a bastion of
support for Assad, has emerged as a key battleground in Syria's civil
war. Its fall would give the opposition a major strategic victory, with a
stronghold in the north near the Turkish border. A rebel defeat, at the
very least, would buy the regime more time."The city is witnessing one of the most violent days. All fronts are on fire," Aleppo-based activist Baraa al-Halabi said.In
the diplomatic arena, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton
was hosting representatives of the Friends of Syria group — a coalition
that includes the United Sates, the European Union and the Arab League —
on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly. The group is seeking
better cooperation among the groups that oppose Assad.
And in Geneva, the U.N.'s top human rights body voted Friday to extend the mission of its independent expert panel probing alleged war crimes in Syria. The panel led by Brazilian professor Paulo Sergio Pinheiro has blamed Syria's government forces for the majority of serious abuses since the uprising began in March 2011.The two sides have been locked in a stalemate, with neither able to deliver a decisive blow. The standoff has been most apparent in Aleppo, where each side controls roughly half the area. Late Thursday, rebel commanders from the main group of fighters, the Free Syrian Army, announced they are embarking on what they called a "decisive battle" for the city.Since then, heavy clashes have been reported along the front lines between rebel- and regime-held areas.Al-Halabi said clashes had broken out in neighborhoods including Midan, old Aleppo, Maysaloun, Azamiyeh, Salaheddine, Seif al-Dawla and Sheikh Maksoud.

Kurdish fighters from the PKK affiliate. However, other Kurds have sided
with those trying to topple the regime, complaining of neglect by the

state-run Anadolu Agency. No one was hurt. Anadolu said Assad's forces
were firing mortar rounds on rebel positions in a bid to regain control

warplane bombed the northern town of Azaz near the Turkish border,
