Untangling the Bizarre CIA Links to the Ground Zero Mosque By Mark Ames
September 10, 2010 | 2:36 p.m New York Observer

So far, the debate over the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero has unfolded along predictable lines, with the man at the center of the project, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, drawing attacks from the right painting him as a terrorist sympathizer with ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. But meanwhile, links between the group behind the controversial mosque, the CIA and U.S. military establishment have gone unacknowledged. For instance, one of the earliest backers of the nonprofit group, the Cordoba Initiative, that is spearheading the Ground Zero mosque, is a 52-year-old Scarsdale, New York, native named R. Leslie Deak. In addition to serving on the group's board of advisors since its founding in 2004 by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, Deak was its principal funder, donating $98,000 to the nonprofit between 2006 and 2008. This figure appears to represent organization's total operating budget—though, oddly, the group reported receipts of just a third of that total during the same time period. Deak describes himself as a "Practicing Muslim with background in Christianity and Judaism, [with] in-depth personal and business experiences in the Middle East, living and working six months per year in Egypt. Born into a Christian home, Deak became an Orthodox Jew and married a Jewish woman before converting to Islam when he married his current wife, Moshira Soliman, with whom he now lives in Rye.

Leslie Deak's resume also notes his role as business consultant for Patriot Defense Group, LLC, a private defense contractor with offices in Winter Park, Florida, and in Tucson. The only names listed on the firm's website are those of its three strategic advisers. These include retired four-star General Bryan Doug Brown, commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command until 2007, where he headed all special operations forces, both active duty and reserve, leading the Global War On Terrorism, and James Pavitt, former deputy director for operations at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he managed the CIA's globally deployed personnel and nearly half of its multi-billion dollar budget and served as head of America's Clandestine Service, the CIA's operational response to the attacks of September 11, 2001.Besides Pavitt, Brown and a third advisor, banker Alexander Cappello, the Patriot Defense Group is so secretive it doesn't even name its management team, instead describing its anonymous CEO as a former Special Forces and State Department veteran, the group's managing director as a former CIA officer experienced in counter-terrorism in hostile environments and the group's corporate intelligence head as a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Secret Service who worked on the personal security details of former Presidents Bush and Clinton.

Leslie Deak and Moshira Soliman/ PanachePrive

Patriot Defense Group's primary business involves leveraging its government connections and know-how. The firm is divided into two divisions: one that focuses exclusively on the needs of the U.S. military and law enforcement communities as well as the requirements of friendly foreign governments, and a corporate division, which provides business intelligence and specialized security services to corporate clients and high net-worth family enterprises. So, to recap: From 2006 to 2008, R. Leslie Deak worked as a business consultant to this super-secretive security contractor with ties to the CIA and counterterrorism forces, and in those same three years he also donated nearly $100,000 in seed money to the foundation now advocating the construction of the so-called Ground Zero Mosque.Interestingly, during the same three-year period during which the Deak Family Foundation was financing the Cordoba Initiative, Deak also donated a total of $101,247 to something called the National Defense University Foundation. The National Defense University is a network of war and strategy colleges and research centers (including the National War College) funded by the Pentagon, designed to train specialists in military strategy. The organization recently announced a November 5 dinner gala in honor of Defense Secretary and former CIA chief Robert Gates. Sponsors include Northrup Grumman, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and...the Patriot Defense Group.Deak also sits on the NDUF's board of directors, the chairman of which is Mark Treanor, the former general counsel for Wachovia bank from 1998 through its collapse in 2008 and a major bundler of campaign donations for the McCain-Palin ticket in 2008. Wachovia, now owned by Wells Fargo, was recently fined $160 million for laundering at least $110 million in Mexican drug money between 2003 and 2008, while Treanor was Wachovia's general counsel, though the figure is likely higher since Wachovia admitted it didn't put any controls on at least $420 billion—that's billion—in cash moved through its network of Mexico currency exchanges.Which leads to another odd coincidence: Laundering money for drug lords is what brought down Deak & Co., the company run by Leslie Deak's father, Nicholas Deak, years ago. The elder Deak, a former top intelligence commander during World War II for the OSS (the forerunner of the CIA), was the founder of Deak-Perera, which became for a time one of the world's biggest foreign currency and gold dealers. But in 1984, a Presidential Commission on Organized Crime accused the firm of acting as a money laundering operation for Columbia drug cartels, who reportedly brought sacks of cash containing tens of millions of dollars into Deak's Manhattan offices. By the end of 1984, Deak & Co. had declared bankruptcy, and a year later, Nicholas Deak was murdered in the company's headquarters at 29 Broadway by a deranged homeless woman.

After the firm went bankrupt and Leslie Deak was left on his own, the corporation was broken up and sold off in pieces. One company that traces its beginnings to the defunct Deak empire is Goldline International, a business concern well known to fans of Glenn Beck as well as California investigators. Goldline is to Glenn Beck what General Electric was to Ronald Reagan: The company sponsors Beck's TV and radio shows as well as his touring act, and Beck is its public face. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, along with the Santa Monica City Attorney's office, are currently investigating Goldline for defrauding customers by railroading gullible customers into buying their most debased products.Speaking of Glenn Beck, it has been reported that Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, the second-largest shareholder in News Corp., the parent company Fox News, which airs Beck's program, is also a major funder of Imam Rauf's projects, as Jon Stewart viewers heard all about last week. Coincidences happen, of course. (For instance, Pamela Geller, the blogger who's become the leading voice denouncing the mosque project was once, bizarrely enough, associate publisher of The New York Observer.)But add to this array of unexpected connections the work of Imam Rauf on behalf of the U.S. government—which includes serving as an FBI consultant and being recruited as a spokesperson by longtime George W. Bush confidante Karen Hughes, who headed up the administration's propaganda efforts in the Muslim world—and a compelling picture begins to emerge. Bush's favorite Imam, with backing from a funder with connections to the CIA, the Pentagon and the currency trading company that now sponsors rightwing firebrand Glenn Beck, proposes to build a mosque around the corner from the site of the most devastating terrorist attack ever visited on America. In the name of [cultivating] understanding among all religions and cultures, he puts forth a project that offends a majority of Americans and deals a significant setback to the broader acceptance of Muslim-Americans. It's a little like Billy White Shoes Johnson claiming the only reason he moonwalks after scoring a touchdown is to lower tensions on the football field and raise the other team's spirits.Whether the Cordoba Initiative ever gets its way with the Ground Zero Mosque, it may well have a lasting legacy at odds with its stated intention: By damaging the very moderates and progressives who actually view New York, and the nation as a whole, as a tolerant melting pot, and strengthening the position demagogues on both sides, it will almost certainly deal a setback to interfaith relations. It will also help to hobble the Democratic party. Which just might have been the point all along. Either that, or it's merely a coincidence that this controversy has erupted now, during crucial mid-term elections. In which case we can all go back to what we were doing before—either denouncing the Park51 Mosque as an affront to Americans, or championing it as a symbol of our fundamental rights-playing our accustomed roles in a drama that seems too perfect, somehow, to believe.

Ground Zero Mosque Controversy: A CIA Orchestrated Event Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com September 12, 2010

The Ground Zero mosque event was designed to reinvigorate the manufactured Global War on Manufactured Terror. Photo: David Shankbone.Imagine my surprise when I learned that the so-called Ground Zero mosque has connections to the CIA. Mark Ames, writing for the New York Observer, spelled out the connections on Friday. Ames notes that the right (neocons) portray Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf as a terrorist sympathizer with ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. But meanwhile, links between the group behind the controversial mosque, the CIA and U.S. military establishment have gone unacknowledged,he writes.Ames connects the Cordoba Initiative behind the mosque to R. Leslie Deak, a business consultant for Patriot Defense Group, apparently a CIA front company. One of the company’s strategic advisers is a former deputy director for operations at the CIA who managed the CIA’s globally deployed personnel and nearly half of its multi-billion dollar budget and served as head of America’s Clandestine Service, the CIA’s operational response to the attacks of September 11, 2001.Other consultants include a former four-star general who commanded the U.S. Special Operations Command and its effort in the manufactured Global War On Terrorism. The trio is complete with the presence of a banker.Leslie Deak’s father was a former top intelligence commander during World War II for the OSS (the forerunner of the CIA) and was the founder of Deak-Perera, a foreign currency and gold dealer that was accused by a Presidential Commission on Organized Crime in 1984 of money laundering for Columbia drug cartels. The CIA is known for its connections to the worldwide illegal drug trade.

Mark Ames steers the whole affair safely into the false right-left paradigm. The Cordoba Initiative and the controversy surrounding it is designed to damage moderates and progressives who actually view New York, and the nation as a whole, as a tolerant melting pot, and strengthening the position demagogues on both sides [and] it will almost certainly deal a setback to interfaith relations. It will also help to hobble the Democratic party. Which just might have been the point all along, writes Ames. The Ground Zero mosque has nothing to do with sabotaging moderates or Democrats (who mostly buy into the fairy tale that Muslims hate us for our freedom). Instead, the event was designed to reinvigorate the manufactured GWOT unleashed by the CIA with its spook agency spawned terror attributed to shadowy operatives who handle an array of clueless patsies like the Christmas day fizzle pants non-bomber and the Times Square barbeque grill gas tank non-bomber. It is also no mistake the controversy unfolded in the weeks before the September 11 anniversary.

Both Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood are intelligence assets. Hamas was aided directly by Israeli intelligence as a counter balance to the PLO. The Muslim Brotherhood was long ago compromised by British intelligence. The bottom line is that the Muslim Brotherhood’s success could not have been achieved without the approval of the British ruling establishment, writes Peter D. Goodgame. The CIA was also interested in exploiting the Brotherhood. According to CIA agent Miles Copeland, the Americans began looking for a Muslim Billy Graham around 1955… When finding or creating a Muslim Billy Graham proved elusive, the CIA began to cooperate with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Iran Blames Israel for Koran Burning Event (I KNEW THIS WAS COMING)
Xinhua September 9, 2020

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Thursday condemned a U.S. church’s plan to burn the Quran and said this has been planned by Israel, local satellite Press TV reported.Mottaki warned of the reactions of Muslims and the followers of other religions, the report said.Such actions will ignite the reaction of not only the world’s Muslims but the followers of other divine religions, he was quoted as saying.

The U.S. officials should carry out their duties to guarantee the basic right of American Muslims and prevent the promotion of such offensive acts, Mottaki said. The Iranian foreign minister described the plans to burn the Quran, by a U.S. priest, as soft war schemed by Israel following its failures in the wars against Muslims, he added according to the report.

It is time for the REAL and deeper questions about Islam are asked By Laurie Roth SEPT 10,10

The nation and world is caught in a sea of anger and protest over Rev. Terry Jones, of the Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, continuing with his plans to make a bonfire and burn copies of the Quran on 9/11. Obama, Hillary, Holder and more have called the burning plans disgraceful, dangerous, Islamaphobic, racist and more.Even General Petraus has weighed in saying it would be dangerous to our troops and insite more violence from radicals. So far Rev. Jones reports over 100 death threats and is now carrying a gun.He is no stranger in making the news.Last year he posted signs in the front of his church that Islam is of the Devil. That didn’t make the national and international news like this planned burning event.Gen.David Petraeus said according to the AP that images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan and around the world to inflame public opinion and incite violence.I absolutely honor and respect Petraeus as a brilliant commander and General in Iraq and Afghanistan but am wondering how much more inflamed can Islamic radicals get regardless of what people or various groups do? They already torture, dismember, rape and kill troops or civilians in the way whenever they can. What??? Are they going to put more acid on a soldier’s left leg if a Rev. Jones burns a Quran? I think radical Islam has targeted us all for death for some time. Already we are seeing Muslim radicals flip out. In Afghanistan, hundreds of Afghans were chanting Death to the Christians on Thursday, while they burned a U.S. flag. This was in direct response to the proposed Quran burning event on 9/11. There were more demonstrations. In the Capital of Afghanistan there were a reported 4,000 people marching and demonstrating. There are growing Islamic disturbances, demonstrations, threats and burnings everywhere, including Pakistan, where another 200 people also burned the U.S. flag and marched.

Many are fearing and we are already seeing retaliation not only against America and the flag but against Christian churches and ministries. Churches are being threatened and attacked. So, what do we do with all this typical response by Islamics…..run and hide under the bed, gut our 1st amendment rights…..shut up and take it as they order and expect? Regardless of your position on whether it is ok or not to burn copies of the Quran to draw a line in the sand on 9/11, fundamentalists and radical Islam, peppered in the U.S. and throughout the world behave as they always have. They demand respect, obedience and submission by those in their faith and those outside or they attack, torture, burn and kill.Look at the mayhem over the mere threat of a small fry Preacher wanting to burn the Quran, when for decades now, Islamics have targeted and continue to target Christians, ministries, civilians, women, anyone who dresses wrong, talks wrong, sins, goes against Sharia law in anyway, and dares notice the dominating and conquest agenda of Islam. Islamics have been burning churches, burning Holy bibles and murdering preachers for decades, yet we rarely hear about this in the news. We deserve it I guess.

Despite the rage and acting out going on regarding burning the Quran right now, what are the deeper and critical issues that must be asked and discussed within Islam and from the outside looking in? According to Islam’s own writing and theology the last half of the Quran, trumps and has the reigning authority over the first half of the Quran which is the half talking about peace and loving type statements. The last half which is said to dominate the first half is about war, jihad, how to define, treat, pursue and kill infidels and violence in general. Frank Salvato, editor of newmediajournal.us was my guest this week on air and he stated that we must ask and demand that Islam answers this internal, theology challenge. How do you respond to the fact that the last half of the Quran, the warring and violent part is said to trump the first half talking about peace? If this is true as far as to how to interpret it then there is no religion of peace but rather a religion of war and conquest with a peaceful front only.To obey the proper authority structure within the Koran, (the last half), one would have to truly believe that Islam’s goal is to indeed conquer, promote war, commit jihad, kill or enslave the infidels. The first part of the Quran seems to be nothing more then media friendly sound bites for mass consumption. If this were not so, how is it that much of the Islamic world, here and abroad is rapid with horror, rage and even violence already in response to a goofy, small Pastor of 50 exercising his 1st amendment rights, when Islam slams, threatens, burns Bibles and churches to the ground on a regular basis? We of course are supposed to just take it….not be rude, draw a line in the sand, not challenge the Quran, Sharia law or Islam.Christians and Jews in America are to just take it. We are to move our plays, like the 3 little Pigs out of schools. We are to accommodate special prayer mats and places to pray at work places 5 times a day or else. We are to understand how our persecution as they say, causes all the Islamic terrorists to continuously try to blow up planes, military centers, ships, cities and cars here and abroad.Behind the obvious theological problem built within the Quran, where the last half is said to dominate any teaching in the first half, we have the core and legal center of Islam, Sharia law. What does Sharia law really say though and does that have any ability to relate at all along side the U.S. constitution?

The American Thinker has exposed 10 pillars and beliefs within Sharia law. You make up your own mind.

* Islam commands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped.

* Islam allows husbands to hit their wives even if the husbands merely fear highhandedness in their wives.

* Islam allows an injured plaintiff to exact legal revenge-physical eye for physical eye

* Islam commands that a male and female thief must have a hand cut off.

* Islam commands that highway robbers should be crucified or mutilated.

* Islam commands that homosexuals must be executed.

* Islam orders unmarried fornicators to be whipped and adulterers to be stoned to death.

* Islam orders death for Muslim and possible death for non-Muslim critics of Muhammad and the Quran and even sharia itself.

* Islam orders apostates to be killed.

* Islam commands offensive and aggressive and unjust jihad.

We not only need to start drawing many, loud lines in the sand regarding Islam and its dominating spread in our culture, but our leaders and media must expose them from their own Holy books and Sharia law which they swear by. Let’s look at just a few of the dozens of scriptures, 109 verses at least, calling Muslims to war with nonbelievers.Quran (2:191-193)And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution of Muslims is worse than slaughter of non-believers and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah.Quran (2: 216) Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.Quran (3:56) “As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.Quran (3:151) Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority. This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity.

Quran (4:74) Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward. The above verses are just a few of the many in the last half of the Quran that talk of the duty and calling of war and the eradication of the Christians, Jews and nonbelievers.Forget a simple symbolic book burning on 9/11, our country needs a major line drawn in the sand, and 1000% stand against Sharia law and its evil. We also need to investigate and find out what is really going on in the 6000 mosques already in America and stand against the mockery and in your face push of the Islamic Mosque at ground zero in New York.Remember the front man in this push is Imam Feisal Rauf the President of the Sharia Index project, international leader of pushing Sharia law in the west and supporter of Hamas. Our media and leaders within Islam should demand answers regarding the push for something as unconstitutional and brazen as Sharia law and ask them to give a REAL answer as to how they will deal with the theological challenge of the violent and warring half of the Quran trumping the peaceful half. Does that mean they are at war with America instead of wanting to live in peace? It seems that way. Remember, we were the victims on 9/11 not Islam.

A Bauerle Commentary: Koran Plan Raises Questions SEPT 10,10

By now, you’ve heard about an anti-Muslim Koran burning scheduled for this Saturday, September 11 in Gainesville, Florida. This protest has drawn severe fire and sanctimonious rebukes.Maybe it’s me, but some folks are more upset about the Koran burning than they’ve been about the murder of 3,000 innocents nine years ago in New York, Washington and a field in Pennsylvania. For the record, I believe this Christian minister has every right to burn as many Korans as he wishes. For all I care, he can roast bacon over the flames while wearing a pork chop loin cloth and singing Christmas Carols.

Why?

It is protected speech, which the left has no problem defending when our national flag is abused. That being said, I think burning Korans, Bibles, US flags and even The Communist Manifesto of Karl Marx is stupid, unproductive and hateful. There are many doctrines in print, and I’ve never been inclined to consign any of them to flames, no matter how loathsome to freedom and decency they may be.While many of the media, political and religious elites have excoriated the minister and his church -even employing the old let’s get his kids to say what a jerk he is tactic- I want to explain why more than a few Americans are not rushing to throw stones at Rev. Jones.

You’ve heard the question a million times: How will such and such American insensitivity play on the Arab/Muslim street? Let me try to explain the view from the Judeo-Christian USA street. For years, people of faith have been subjected to increasingly radical and hard-core intolerance of traditional Western religious beliefs.Do you remember when the State of Alabama was told by Uncle Sam to remove the Ten Commandments from the rotunda of the state house? Do you recall the hate speech of the left when Christians were appalled by the photographs of the crucifix in a jar of urine? The delightful artwork known as Piss Christ was even paid for by taxpayer money stolen from us by the government and awarded to an artist. What is bizarre is that I could be fined by the FCC for simply stating on-air the name of this artwork that our government took our money to subsidize.

The Virgin Mary covered with dung? Deal with it: it’s art.Even private businesses have replaced Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays while at the same time urgently reminding us how few days there are until December 25th.My alma mater, SUNY/Buffalo, welcomed the Dalai Lama with open arms and taxpayer dollars a few years ago. I can remember no Christian leader afforded such respect at UB.The left has been snarky toward Christians for being homophobic and anti-women, but oddly seems to have fallen in love with Islam.Apparently, hanging homosexuals in Iran and shooting women to death in Afghanistan under sharia law does not register on the left’s usually-so-sensitive outrage meter. In short, more than a few of us see a war against our traditional beliefs at the same time as we are lectured about the need to be tolerant of other religions.

Jews and Christians can rightly ask: Where is the tolerance for us? Against this backdrop, a so-called moderate Imam (snicker) and useful idiots on the left propose and support an Islamic Center at Ground Zero. A building close enough to the terror outrage to have had landing gear crash through its roof can be safely called a Ground Zero building. We are told that the Cordoba Project (significant name) is designed to reach out to the people of New York, yet Imam Rauf has been deaf to the protests of people who are angry and concerned about the site. While the Koran burning story is the raging controversy of the moment, the larger issue for thinking Americans is:Can our form of government and freedoms co-exist with a religious and political system which regards anything BUT Islam and sharia as evil? Mr. Kipling said it best:East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet.

Pastor Jones: Another rebel-misfit celebrity By Orest Slepokura Thursday, September 9, 2010 CANADA FREE PRESS

Watching a news clip of Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, I found something about him to be familiar; I felt I had seen or had met someone like him before. Then it hit me. Well, of course! Here was a latter-day Jed Clampett, the genial Ozark patriarch played by the inimitable Buddy Ebsen on the popular TV show of the 1960’s The Beverly Hillbillies. The Florida preacher, who is making geopolitical waves and great headlines after announcing he and his flock would mark the ninth anniversary of the September 11th terrorists attacks by burning a copy of the Holy Koran, seems a lot like the loveable TV hayseed from West Virginia. In the interviews Jones gives, he comes across calm and unruffled and possessed of an intense conviction that burning the Muslims’ sacred texts is not only in no sense wrong, but that it’s the right thing to do by his lights, considering that Islam is of the Devil.Setting aside the potential his book-burning has for roiling the 1.5 billion strong Muslim world and moving thousands of otherwise law abiding believers to suddenly go postal on Western personnel, symbols, and institutions, the reason for such high anxiety within the U.S. and elsewhere, there remains the steadfast character of the Florida preacher, a Rock of Gibraltar, apparently, which I very much suspect has appeal for many of our American neighbours.

It wasn’t so long ago editorial cartoonists were lampooning Paul Martin, our short-lived prime minister (2003-06), as Mr Dithers. Martin, an able Finance Minister in Prime Minister Chretien’s regime, seemed to lack core convictions and react like a weather vane to whatever political winds were blowing. Hence, the moniker. It was this same perceived lack of core convictions that moved Ronald Reagan to comment on his two-term vice-president George H.W. Bush, struggling to gain traction against his two presidential rivals, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot, following a bruising primary, We don’t know what he stands for. Another wet noodle. That could not be said of 19th Century Abolitionist John Brown, an irresponsible fanatic who attempted to raise the slaves in the U.S. and arm them against their white masters. In 1859, he led a failed raid by scores of his followers on the armory at Harper’s Ferry in Virginia. Brown had intended to arm African-American slaves with a cache of weapons seized from the arsenal. All his men were either killed or captured or routed. Brown was arrested, tried, and in the end hanged for treason.During his trial, however, he displayed remarkable fortitude. Such that he soon became a hero in Northern eyes, his cause taken up by New England luminaries like Thoreau and Emerson. Historians in the main agree that as an agitator for the abolition of slavery John Brown helped move the United States a step closer to civil war; a righteous crusader whose good intentions paved a road to mass fratricide.Which brings us to Pastor Jones, our fanatic of the hour. There he is, seen standing pat against a formidable array of detractors and critics, from editors at the venerable New York Times to smarmy talking-heads at MSNBC, from the stalwart General Petraeus to the canny Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, from the Vatican to the U.S. Attorney General. In short, that Little Man of populist folklore facing down a pantheon of elite figures heading great institutions.

As I write, the pastor is three days away from enacting his burning of the Koran. Perhaps multiple copies will be immolated. Call Jones irresponsible, outrageous, sacrilegious; call him mad, bad, and dangerous. What we’ve got is that normally irresistible force of the Powers That Be unable, seemingly, to cause this old immovable object that is the storefront preacher to budge from a resolve to set alight Muslim bibles on the anniversary of 9/11. It is a remarkable example of Jean-Paul Sartre’s philosophical notion of the coefficient of adversity in things, which measures the shove-back resistance with which our world confronts us when we push up against it. Jones’s CoA must be off the scale, yet he shows no sign of even breaking a sweat. Impressive in an age of beehive sycophancy! No one has mentioned the rogue, JetBlue flight attendant Steve Slater in the same breath as Terry Jones. The former catapulted to fame within hours of staging his pre-flight meltdown and became a working-class hero to millions because of his blue-collar, Johnny Paycheck, take-this-job-and-shove-it antics. Slater, as it happened, had a constituency of millions. Jones, too, I expect also has a huge following, aside from those 50 blowhards inside his congregation. These are the people who don’t buy into the liberal concept of namby-pamby tolerance, who bring a frontier mindset to the 21st Century, who have looked down and seen the feet of clay on their conservative heroes, and concluded To Hell with them! A peculiar social dynamic is work: One that welcomes the rebel-misfit.Naturally, I don’t know who the next rebel-misfit celebrity will be, but I’m fairly confident it will be someone who, in a manner of speaking, will on a sudden break rank and boldly approach the review stand and give the Dear Leaders up there, whoever they are, the middle finger.

PARIS (Reuters) - The international police agency Interpol warned governments worldwide on Thursday of an increased risk of attacks on innocent people if the planned burning of the Koran by an obscure U.S. clergyman went ahead.Terry Jones, leader of a Protestant church of about 30 members in Gainesville, Florida, plans to burn copies of the Islamic holy book on Saturday, the anniversary of the September 11attacks which this year coincides with the Muslim Eid holiday. If the proposed Koran burning by a pastor in the U.S. goes ahead as planned, there is a strong likelihood that violent attacks on innocent people would follow, Interpol said in a statement, adding that it was acting partly on a request from Pakistan.Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik asked the agency to warn national police of an increased terror threat if the burning takes place on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, it said.Given that we have been made aware of a significant threat to public safety -- an assessment which we share -- it is our duty to ensure that we pass this information on to law enforcement agencies around the globe so that they can take appropriate measures, said Interpol Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.

Noble said there were no specific details of what forms the attacks might take, but he warned the Koran-burning would have tragic consequences.Interpol requested any country aware of a specific threat to contact its headquarters urgently. Staff at its 24-hour command center will be placed on alert, it said.U.S. President Barack Obama warned on Thursday that the pastor's plan could provoke al Qaeda suicide bombings and the governments of India and Indonesia urged him to stop the burning.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf predicts violence By Klaus Rohrich Thursday, September 9, 2010 CANADA FREE PRESS

I know that everyone was shocked and surprised that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf told Soledad O’Brien on CNN yesterday that if the Cordoba Initiative mosque adjacent to Ground Zero were to be relocated, then violence would surely follow throughout the Muslim world. Who’d have thought it? Violence committed by Muslims? But then, the good Imam is playing this by The Book in threatening that Islam would be offended if it couldn’t build a victory mosque next to the former World Trade Center site. The Book, in this case, is the playbook Muslims have learned to use against the West, ever since the Nancyboy liberal elites asked, Why do they hate us so? on Sept 12, 2001.The thing that makes the Imam’s admonition so ominous is that we know Islam appears to be the only world religion currently advocating violence against its enemies and non-believers (infidels).Surely there are moderate Muslims who abhor violence. But they don’t seem to be getting the press these days, as news reports of suicide bombings, beheadings, stonings, honor killings and all sorts of other barbaric crimes committed on behalf of some form of Islam creep their way into our consciousness.

Already there are violent and rabid demonstrations against Christians throughout the Muslim world protesting the Rev. Terry Jones’s plans to burn Korans on Saturday as an act of remembrance of the 9/11 victims. Jones may be a whack job from the far reaches of the lunatic fringe, but like Rauf who has a legal right to build a mosque next to Ground Zero, Jones has the right to burn as many Korans as he can legally acquire.Rauf’s admonition that violence might ensue should the mosque be moved, was made with the same clear-eyed innocence as the warnings put forth by American Muslims against Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the South Park Muhammad issue, which was subsequently censored by Comedy Central, the cable channel carrying the show. We’re not advocating violence. they say, We’re just concerned that there might be violence. And of course violence will follow each and every time these wide-eyed innocents warn of its possibility.I have yet to hear individuals like Rauf or the CAIR crowd categorically condemn violence and loudly proclaim that it is anathema to Islamic law and I don’t recommend that anyone hold their breath waiting for them to do so. What you will hear is some politically correct drivel, such as is found on the Cordoba Initiative’s web site.

In recent years the global public has shown an increased interest in Islam and the Muslim world. Many facets of Islamic life, religious, cultural and artistic, remain underrepresented and misunderstood. The Muslim community must provide an opportunity to educate individuals about Islam through education and organized experiences of art, culture and entertainment.I can readily understand why in recent years the global public has shown increased interest in Islam and the Muslim world. Don’t quote me, but I think it has to do with bombings in Places like London, Madrid, Bali, New York, Washington and numerous other locales. People would be quite foolish if they did not display increased interest in a movement, religious or secular, that could lay claim to as many deaths as can be attributed to Islam in the last decade or two.I believe Rauf to be an agent provocateur who presents a perfectly reasonable and smiling face to those whom he despises. I doubt that the mosque he wishes to build will ever become a reality. But then again, maybe this whole thing isn’t so much about building a mosque as it is about inciting more hatred against America.

Fla. minister determined to hold 9/11 Quran burn By MITCH STACY, Associated Press Writer - SEPT 8,10

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The leader of a small Florida church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy said Wednesday he was determined to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11, despite pressure from the White House, religious leaders and others to call it off.

Pastor Terry Jones said at a press conference that he has received a lot of encouragement, with supporters mailing copies of the Islamic holy text to his Gainesville church of about 50 followers. He proclaimed in July that he would stage International Burn-a-Quran Day to mark the ninth anniversary of 9/11.As of right now, we are not convinced that backing down is the right thing, said Jones, who took no questions.Jones said he has received more than 100 death threats and has started carrying a .40-caliber pistol since announcing his plan to burn the book Muslims consider the word of God and insist be treated with the utmost respect. Jones, 58, was flanked by an armed escort Wednesday.Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Kabul, took the rare step of a military leader taking a position on a domestic matter when he warned in an e-mail to The Associated Press that images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan — and around the world — to inflame public opinion and incite violence.Petraeus spoke Wednesday with Afghan President Karzai about the matter, according to a military spokesman Col. Erik Gunhus. They both agreed that burning of a Quran would undermine our effort in Afghanistan, jeopardize the safety of coalition troopers and civilians, Gunhus said, and would create problems for our Afghan partners ... as it likely would be Afghan police and soldiers who would have to deal with any large demonstrations.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that the pastor's plans were outrageous, and along with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, urged Jones to cancel the event. It is regrettable that a pastor in Gainesville, Florida, with a church of no more than 50 people can make this outrageous and distrustful, disgraceful plan and get the world's attention, but that's the world we live in right now, Clinton said in remarks to the Council on Foreign Relations.Jones gained some local notoriety last year when he posted signs in front of his church declaring Islam is of the Devil. But his Quran-burning idea attracted wider attention. It drew rebukes from Muslim nations and at home as an emotional debate was taking shape over the proposed Islamic center near the ground zero site of the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York.

Actress Angelina Jolie, in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N.'s refugee agency, condemned the protest during a trip to Pakistan to raise awareness about the floods in the largely Muslim country.Jones' actions likely would be protected by the First Amendment's right to free speech. The U.S. Supreme Court has made clear that speech deemed offensive to many people, even the majority of people, cannot be suppressed by the government unless it is clearly directed to intimidate someone or amounts to an incitement to violence, legal experts said. The Vatican denounced the protest and a religious watchdog group, Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said it would send a copy of the Quran to the Afghan National Army for every one that might be burned.U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder during a meeting Tuesday with religious leaders to discuss recent attacks on Muslims and mosques around the U.S. called the planned burning idiotic and dangerous, according to a Justice Department official. The official requested anonymity because the meeting was private.

In Afghanistan, Jones' planned burning continued to provoke outrage. It is the duty of Muslims to react, said Mohammad Mukhtar, a cleric and candidate for the Afghan parliament in the Sept. 18 election. When their holy book Quran gets burned in public, then there is nothing left. If this happens, I think the first and most important reaction will be that wherever Americans are seen, they will be killed. No matter where they will be in the world they will be killed.Muslims consider the Quran along with any printed material containing its verses or the name of Allah or the Prophet Muhammad to be sacred. Any intentional damage or show of disrespect Quran is deeply offensive.Jones' Dove Outreach Center is independent of any denomination. It follows the Pentecostal tradition, which teaches that the Holy Spirit can manifest itself in the modern day. Pentecostals often view themselves as engaged in spiritual warfare against satanic forces.Associated Press writers Kimberly Dozier and Robert Reid in Kabul, Curt Anderson in Miami and Matthew Lee, Mark Sherman and Anne Flaherty in Washington contributed to this report.

US embassies brace for Quran burning protests By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer - SEPT 8,10

WASHINGTON – The State Department has ordered U.S. embassies around the world to assess their security ahead of a Florida church group's planned weekend burning of the Muslim holy book amid fears it could spark anti-American violence.Officials said Wednesday that U.S. diplomatic posts have been instructed to convene emergency action committees to determine the potential for protests over the congregation's plans to burn the Quran to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The posts are to warn American citizens in countries where protests may occur. The move underscores the Obama administration's deep concern that Saturday's planned Quran burning will inflame anti-American sentiment, particularly in the Arab and Muslim world, and put U.S. troops, diplomats and travelers at risk. The Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville has rebuffed appeals from Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and senior military commanders to cancel its plans. It was not immediately clear how many embassies had completed the security review, but the U.S. Embassy in Algiers issued an alert to Americans in Algeria on Wednesday saying that media reports of the upcoming threatened Quran burning by a small Gainesville, Florida, group could affect the security of U.S. citizens overseas. If the event proceeds, it could trigger reaction and protests in Muslim countries around the world, possibly including Algeria, the alert said.

WE BETTER ALL START PRAYING HARD FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS BECAUSE WHEN THAT PASTOR BURNS THE KORAN WE WILL NEED GODS HELP TO STOP THEM ISLAMIC SAVAGES FROM RIOTING-BURNING AND BEHEAADING INNOCENT PEOPLE.THIS BURNING INCIDENT COULD SEND PROPHECY INTO FULL GEAR AND RUSSIA MUSLIMS MIGHT GO TO THEIR DEMISE IF THEY GO AGAINST ISRAEL BECAUSE OF THIS BURNING THE KORAN INCIDENT.KISS 5/6TH OF THE ISLAMIC-RUSSIAN ARMIES GOODBYE.ISRAEL WILL INHERIT SOME OF THEIR PROMISED LAND AND THEY COULD REBUILD THE 3RD TEMPLE AS THERE WOULD BE NO ISLAMIC MUSLIM THREAT BECAUSE OF THE MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF MUSLIMS KILLED IN THIS WAR FOR GOING AGAINST GOD & ISRAEL.SEPT 7,10

Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops By KIMBERLY DOZIER, Associated Press Writer - SEPT 7,10

KABUL, Afghanistan – The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan warned an American church's threat to burn copies of the Muslim holy book could endanger U.S. troops in the country and Americans worldwide.Meanwhile, NATO reported the death of an American service member in an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.

The comments from Gen. David Petraeus followed a protest Monday by hundreds of Afghans over the plans by Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center — a small, evangelical Christian church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy — to burn copies of the Quran on church grounds to mark the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States that provoked the Afghan war.Images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan — and around the world — to inflame public opinion and incite violence, Petraeus said Tuesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press.NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen echoed those sentiments Tuesday, saying any burning would be in a strong contradiction with the all the values we stand for and fight for.Muslims consider the Quran to be the word of God and insist it be treated with the utmost respect, along with any printed material containing its verses or the name of Allah or the Prophet Muhammad. Any intentional damage or show of disrespect to the Quran is deeply offensive. In 2005, 15 people died and scores were wounded in riots in Afghanistan sparked by a story in Newsweek magazine alleging interrogators at the U.S. detention center in Guantanamo Bay placed copies of the Quran in washrooms and flushed one down the toilet to get inmates to talk. Newsweek later retracted the story.Responding to Petraeus' comments, Dove World Outreach Center's senior pastor Terry Jones acknowledged Petraeus' concerns as legitimate but said the church still planned to go ahead with the burning.

We are at this time not going to cancel it. We're still considering it and praying about it,Jones told The Associated Press. We are also just also concerned and wondering, when do we stop? How much do we back down? ... Instead of us backing down, maybe it's to time to stand up.The church, which last year distributed T-shirts that said Islam is of the Devil, has been denied a permit to set a bonfire but has vowed to proceed with the burning. The congregation's website estimates it has about 50 members, but the church has leveraged the Internet with a Facebook page and blog devoted to its Quran-burning plans. The American's death brings to at least six the number of U.S. forces killed in Afghanistan this month, along with at least four other non-American members of the international coalition.Engagements with insurgents are rising along with the addition of another 30,000 U.S. troops, bringing the total number of international forces in the country to more than 140,000.At least 322 U.S. troops have died in Afghanistan so far this year, exceeding the previous annual record of 304 for all of 2009, according to an AP count.Petraeus is asking for 2,000 more trainers and field troops for the international force, NATO officials said Monday. It was unclear how many would be Americans.

Also Tuesday, authorities confirmed the ambush killing of a district chief by suspected insurgents in the northern province of Baghlan on Monday afternoon. Nahrin district chief Rahmad Sror Joshan Pool was on his way home after a memorial service for slain anti-Soviet guerrilla leader Ahmad Shah Massoud when rocket-propelled grenades hit his vehicle, setting it on fire, said provincial spokesman Mahmood Haqmal.Pool's bodyguard was also killed, and one militant died and two were wounded in the ensuing firefight with police, Haqmal said.Five children were killed and five wounded in Yaya Khil district in the southern province of Paktika when an insurgent rocket fired at an Afghan army base hit a home Monday evening, provincial government spokesman Mokhlais Afghan said.Kidnappers also seized two electoral workers and their two drivers in the western province of Ghor, according to deputy provincial police chief Ahmad Khan Bashir. Insurgents have waged a campaign of violence and intimidation to prevent Afghans from voting, especially in rural areas, while some pre-election violence has also been blamed on rivalries among the candidates.
