Federal authorities do not concern themselves about the flood of illegal immigrants and drugs crossing the border every day, they’re more worried about radiating American truck drivers at internal checkpoints with mobile scanners that shoot dangerous x-rays through both vehicles and passengers.As we reported last month, the federal government has acquired hundreds of backscatter x-ray scanners mounted in vans that they are now using to randomly scan vehicles, passengers and homes in complete violation of the 4th amendment and with wanton disregard for any health consequences.An example of their expanding use was reported by WSBTV yesterday, after federal agents from several agencies, including Homeland Security, the Department of Transportation, and the TSA, set up an internal checkpoint on Interstate 20 just west of Atlanta and detained truck drivers for half an hour or more at a state-owned inspection station while they were scanned with a bomb detection device.Officials admitted there was no specific threat that justified the checkpoint, and although it was labeled a counter-terror operation, the scans were also being conducted in the name of safety.

Backscatter x-ray vision devices mounted on trucks are already being deployed inside the United States to scan passing individuals and vehicles in complete violation of the Fourth Amendment. Similar to naked airport body scanners, the devices fire x-rays outwards which are then absorbed by dense objects or the human body. Frequent exposure to low doses of radiation can cause cancer and birth defects, according to a report by the Inter-Agency Committee on Radiation Safety.American Science & Engineering, a company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, has sold many of the devices to U.S. law enforcement agencies, who are already using them on the streets for security purposes.Without a warrant, the government doesn’t have a right to peer beneath your clothes without probable cause,” points out Marc Rotenberg, executive director of EPIC. Even airport scans are typically used only as a secondary security measure. If the scans can only be used in exceptional cases in airports, the idea that they can be used routinely on city streets is a very hard argument to make.As we have warned from the very beginning, everything you see being rolled out in the airports is eventually designed to hit the streets as Americans become prisoners in their own communities, constantly harassed, scanned and surveilled by an oppressive state.Mobile scanners for crowds that would be used at football matches and other public events have already been announced, as have proposals to fit lamp posts with CCTV cameras that would X-ray scan passers-by and undress them in order to trap terror suspects.Body and vehicle scanners are just one tool authorities plan to implement on a widespread basis as part of our deepening decline into a hi-tech militarized police state.

Homeland Security is already implementing technology to be enforced at security events which purportedly reads malintent on behalf of an individual who passes through a checkpoint. The video below explains how Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) checkpoints will conduct physiological and behavioral tests in order to weed out suspected terrorists and criminals.The clip shows individuals who attend security events being led into trailers before they are interrogated as to whether they are terrorists while lie detector-style computer programs analyze their physiological responses. The subjects are asked about their whereabouts, and if they are attempting to smuggle bombs or recording devices into the expo, proving that the technology is intended to be used at public events and not just airports. Individuals who do not satisfy the first lie detector-style test are then asked additional questions.The implementation of Checkpoint USA, where citizens are routinely stopped, searched and radiated by federal VIPER teams is further evidence of how America is crumbling into a Soviet-style police state where the presumption of innocent until proven guilty is abolished and the 4th amendment eviscerated.

New U.S. legislation will impact every user of the Internet. The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act would empower the U.S. Department of Justice to shut down, or block access to, websites found to be dedicated to infringing activities. The bill also contains provisions to block sites with domain names and Top-Level Domains (TLDs) that are maintained by overseas companies, which exist outside the U.S. legal jurisdiction and enforcement mechanism. The Justice Department would obtain court orders directing United States-based Internet Service Providers to stop resolving the IP addresses that allow customers in the United States to access the infringing websites. As a result, the sites will be inaccessible to U.S.-based Web users who do not use some sort of proxy service. The bill was read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary last Monday; it is sponsored by Senators Hatch, Leahy, Klobuchar, Whitehouse, Schumer, Kohl, Specter, Durbin, Bayh, Voinovich, and Feinstein.The ramifications of more regulation will result in the free and booming frontier of cyberspace, now functioning as the gold rush for enterprise, ceasing to exist. The legislation is expected to have strong support in Hollywood, labor unions and manufacturers, but in some circles — namely grassroots political organizations, alternative press, and Internet start-ups — the response has been lukewarm, and even questioning. They are concerned that the other purposes of the legislation include censorship and, if made law, will employ the Justice Department to police the Internet, eventually resulting in the disruption of the free flow of information and trade globally.To some extent, their concerns are formed by experience. There have been examples of business censorship, and government legislation to curtail what is viewed on the Internet. Infowars reported recently that London’s St. Pancras International, one of the biggest transport hubs in the West,implemented stringent filters that block users of their Wi-Fi service from accessing even mildly political websites.Sites like prisonplanet.com and thinkprogress.org were not available to customers in some areas. There are plans in Australia to promulgate legislation to institute a mandatory, countrywide filtering system,which supporters say is designed to keep out child abuse content, but which blocks a much wider variety of content and topics. And recently when media reported about an Iranian website with cartoons denying the Holocaust, some viewers in the U.S. discovered that access to the site was blocked.

Granted, there is recognition in Washington that the Internet is the new frontier for global enterprise, but some perceive that Washington still views the world through the lens of a bygone era. A critic of the bill told me that many nations, including the United States, legislate for businesses founded in a brick-and-mortar world; and attempts to regulate the Internet would be like turning back the clock.
Nations will act independently and this will be detrimental to customers that use the Internet near and far,advised the critic.A similar sentiment was echoed by former Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, in a speech at the Foreign Ministry Faculty of International Relations in Tehran. Mr. Prodi suggested that Italy within Europe must play a greater role in matters of global importance, and that may entail Europe’s acting with greater independence of the United States. The message, though given on a different topic, is not one that instills confidence to those who see governments encroaching on their privacy, and would prefer unrestricted use, or less regulation, of the services for which they pay.The U.S. legislation for infringement is written to tackle many concerns, and is certainly not archaic in regard to lawmakers’ ambition to affect what goes on well beyond the scope of U.S. jurisdiction.For infringing sites outside the United States, it provides for in rem action in the District of Columbia to prevent the importation into the United States of goods and services directed to U.S. residents. The effect of this importation must be that the owner or operator of the infringing site must harm intellectual property rights holders that are residents of the United States.The Justice Department will be granted power to serve court orders upon the registry where the domain name registrar is not located in the United States, and upon receipt of such an order, the domain registry must suspend operations of, and lock, the domain name of the infringing site.

During the action intended to lock the domain name,a court may determine, at a minimum threshold, that an Internet site is not conducting business to residents in the United States if the Internet site states that it is not intended, and has measures to prevent, infringing materials from being accessed in or delivered to the United States,including other provisions in subsection (d)(2)(B). The owner or operator of the infringing site shall also have recourse to petition the Justice Department to remove his domain name from an offending list, or petition the court to modify, suspend, or vacate the order in accordance with subsection (h)(1)(B).The bill has an immunity clause which protects any entity from a cause of action in U.S. courts or administration agency for any action reasonably calculated to comply with an action intended to prevent the infringing site from continuing to do business with U.S.-based customers, receive financial transactions, and other matters under subsection (e)(3).The U.S. legislation does not appear to put the onus on any businesses, such as Internet Service Providers, to stop known infringement from occurring. This is an interesting stance. In February, an Australian ISP won a precedent-setting copyright infringement lawsuit (Down Under) against the Motion Picture Industry. The bill sponsors may be cognizant of this ruling.

Softpedia reported that 34 U.S. movie studios and broadcasters filed a lawsuit in Australia against iiNet after the ISP refused to send warning letters to its customers who illegally downloaded movies using BitTorrent. The Australian Justice, Dennis Cowdrey, ruled that while iiNet had knowledge of infringements occurring, and did not act to stop them, such findings do not necessitate a finding that the ISP authorized the infringing activities. Possibly, Hollywood supporters of the U.S. infringement legislation now agree with Cowdrey’s ruling that to ask ISPs to police the Internet would open them any number of legal claims for anything that might happen over their pipes,and that would engender strong opposition to the legislation among ISPs in the United States. However, to take on the responsibility of policing the Internet may not seem a burden to Obama’s Justice Department.Certainly, Hollywood will welcome any new infringement legislation aimed at stemming the loss of royalties through piracy and copyright violation in the digital age. Infringers often meet efforts to protect intellectual property with resilient and thought-out action to thwart the law. As a law intern in Thailand I learned, for example, that illegal duplication facilities for CDs and DVDs existed in mobile transportation. Persons engaged in copyright violations avoided the ability of local enforcement to easily locate them and shut them down. It is a sure bet that those engaged in infringing activities overseas will find ways and new technology to evade laws promulgated by a foreign government (like the U.S.) that will have no jurisdiction over them.The Obama Justice Department, which tapped Hollywood lawyers, may be charged to police Intellectual Property — an assignment to which attorneys for President George W. Bush were strongly opposed. The Republican President threatened to veto a previous version of the bill sponsored by the same Sens. Patrick Leahy and Arlen Specter.In correspondence to the Senators, attorneys for President Bush wrote that they strongly opposed expanding the powers of the Justice Department. Doing so, they said, could undermine the Department’s prosecution of criminal cases and transform it into an office serving as pro bono lawyers for private copyright holders.It is obvious during this era when citizens’ rights are curtailed and infringed upon, with the bipartisan sponsorship of the bill and the composition of the current administration, that the infringement legislation has a better chance of becoming law. But will it open a Pandora’s Box? Will it do exactly what critics suspect it is intended to do: censor more of the Internet, create bottlenecks that will allow governments to intrude on the flow of information and services around the world, and do possible damage to a wider spectrum of businesses (other than those it is intended to protect)?

Many of the dynamic economies that U.S. businesses now compete against were born out of things other than a free market; and other economies are driven, or manipulated by State controls, as is the case of China. Foreign nations may follow the U.S. lead in writing laws to regulate the Internet and address their concerns, but not with the results U.S. legislators necessarily hope to engender.Through retaliation, or even pretext, governments may decide to regulate, or shut down legitimate Internet traffic and services to violate human rights, hinder trade, and to engage in industry espionage. We already have examples of these developments with China’s efforts to regulate Google, and the recent firestorm when India and other nations, acting within their security concerns, decided to take action to regulate Blackberry and gain access to users’ encrypted corporate e-mails and messages. The offices of Sen. Byron L Dorgan and Rep. Sander M. Levin of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China undertook a hearing in March to investigate if China’s efforts to regulate the Internet contravene free trade and human rights. Delegates to the hearing cited that:China’s Internet users remain subject to the arbitrary dictates of state censorship. More than a dozen agencies are involved in implementing a host of laws, regulations, and other tools to try to keep information and ideas from the Chinese people . . . China’s censorship practices and control of the Internet have had a terrible impact on human rights advocates. These include ordinary people who promote political freedoms or try to organize online . . . attempting to share information about ongoing government repression.Internet censorship and regulation in China have serious economic implications for many U.S. companies . . . [and] often run against basic international trade principles of nondiscrimination and maintaining a level playing field.To these charges, China responded that it laws regarding the Internet are not much different than those of the West, and that critics are applying a double standard.Perhaps U.S. lawmakers have forgotten a cause it often champions: that respect for human rights, deregulation, and open trade are important to a dynamic and properly functioning global community. As ownership of patents, trademarks, and copyrights becomes a contested grey area, nations may block business occurring over the Internet through the guise of copyright infringement. Only the rich and powerful will have the resources to go through the legal hurdles at home and/or abroad to clear their domains of actions to lock them, and resume operations. Damage would be done to a business during the course of a legal action brought against it; its customers may simply believe that the domain ceases to exist, with transactions lost forever.Small businesses could be shut out of that presumptuous dream of going global and becoming rich, while the elite, big businesses and powerful governments can dominate cyberspace. Many micro-states and individuals could be harmed, and educational pursuits stifled through this world of more legislation, regulation, and censorship.

Why should we be concerned about this future for the Internet? Well, because the Internet is now everyone’s classroom; and perhaps more-so it has become individuals’ business personality. A properly set up website for a Mom-and-Pop enterprise can look as good as that of a billion dollar company’s front-store. The ramifications of more regulation will result in the free and booming frontier of cyberspace, now functioning as the gold rush for enterprise, ceasing to exist.The U.S. may find it useful to confer with trading partners in the North and the South, and come to an understanding that perhaps unilateral action is not the way to address concerns in regard to a frontier in which everyone has an interest. President George W. Bush may have gotten it right when his attorneys writing on his behalf to Sens. Leahy and Specter implied, when taken altogether, that U.S. law already provides owners of Intellectual Property with effective legal tools to protect their rights. It need not go in the direction proposed by the Senators.No one wants Washington’s efforts to backfire and force us to return to a world where we have to resort domestically to find the goods and services that we need, such as cheap medicine. Or, to have to wait on someone in a dusty library to find a book or paper we once could have accessed readily over the Internet. Or, in some far corner of the world men will cower in fear of infringing before they cite links as sources of information. A Big Brother that will censor access to the latest celebrity sex videos, or certain religious texts or even Osama bin Laden’s latest rant (however misguided they may be). The result of this could be that owners of presumed infringing sites must raise ungodly sums of money to hire attorneys to clear their domain names, while good sites like WikiLeaks (which make governments accountable for their actions) are shut down or blocked here and abroad through a pretext; and Mom-and-Pop operating a start-up Internet business within the cornfields of America are locked out through action suggested by a smooth operator with deep pockets who knows how to play the system and use it against his competitor, blocking sites because somebody with power did not like the owner’s point of view.Francis Anthony Govia received a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Boston University where he studied U.S. National Security and Foreign Policy with teachers who inspired him, such as General Fred F. South Africa summit sheds light on EU strategic partnerships

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - A meeting between EU leaders and South African President Jacob Zuma has shed light on how the union aims to use strategic partnerships to shape world events, as well as the limits of its relationship with the young democracy.Speaking to the press alongside Mr Zuma in Brussels on Tuesday (28 September), EU Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said the union expects South Africa to bring its weight to bear to support the EU perspective on nation building in the Sudan, upcoming climate change talks in Cancun and the G20 talks on global financial governance in Seoul.Mr Van Rompuy underlined that the EU is a huge aid donor in Africa and added that its partners have duties and that relations must be a two-way street.Recalling a recent debate between EU leaders on what the union's strategic partnerships are for, he said: We agreed on the need for Europe to promote its interests and values in a spirit of reciprocity and mutual benefit. The EU's strategic partnerships with key players in the world, such as South Africa, provide a useful instrument for pursuing these objectives.Mr Barroso added: In Cancun or in Seoul, if we pool our forces together, the EU and South Africa can contribute to making a difference to our people and making sure the world is a more fair and more prosperous place.Academics Sven Biscop and Richard Whitman in an upcoming book on EU foreign policy, the Handbook of European Security, have said the EU has only had one real strategic partnership in its history - with the US during the Cold War. The EU's own list of strategic partners includes mostly up-and-coming developing countries (Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa), 20th century great powers (Japan, Russia, and the US) and Canada. For his part, Mr Zuma noted that the EU-South Africa strategic partnership treaty signed three years ago has seen a multiplication of mid-ranking diplomatic forums on areas such as education, social affairs, crime and justice.

He underlined instead the value of the Lisbon Treaty, saying: We have met for the first time under the auspices of the Lisbon Treaty. We welcome the fact that with President Van Rompuy we have a permanent partner leading and guiding the EU instead of the pre-Lisbon Treaty six month rotating presidency. We are convinced, Mr President, that under your stewardship and that with President Barroso we will have both continuity and consistency in our relations.The three men endeavoured to give the impression of having just come out of a friendly chat at the press conference, with Mr Barroso and Mr Zuma chuckling along with Mr Van Rompuy's quips abut the football World Cup and how one should never discuss delicate fiscal matters in front of reporters. The EU also gave Mr Zuma a €122 million children's education grant. But the meeting also exposed dividing lines between the two sides. Mr Zuma and Mr Barroso conceded there is a chance that they will be unable to conclude talks on an Economic Partnership Agreement with the group of 14 nations of the Southern African Development Community before the end of the year, as planned. If there is a success, we will claim victory and if there is not a success in December, then we will have some more effort from our officials,the commission chief said. If there is not [a success], it is not the end of the world,the South African leader added.Both sides pledged to work together for a new deal on CO2 emissions cuts in Mexico. But Mr Barroso voiced regret that emerging countries at the climate change summit in Denmark did not include the EU in their deal-making with the US. We in the European Union were to some extent disappointed with the results in Copenhagen,he said. On the sensitive subjects of Zimbabwe sanctions and South Africa visa facilitation, each side listened to the others' remarks in silence.South African foreign ministry spokesman Saul Kgomotso had ahead of the EU summit said that Mr Zuma would urge the union to lift the measures. On the day, Mr Van Rompuy read out a statement saying the EU measures are targeted at high officials and arms traders and do not harm Zimbabweans or impede Zimbabweans' daily lives.Mr Zuma said he had proposed a reciprocal visa-waiver agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - With the economic crisis having made voters much more sensitive to how their money is being spent, Brussels is promising to craft a long-term budget that national politicians can defend.We should structure the flows in and out in such a way that domestic politicians can defend the future budget of the European union, EU budget commissioner Janusz Lewandowski said on Tuesday (28 September).The pragmatic approach comes in the wake of a recent EU survey showing record low support for the Union in many member states and grumbling by some national politicians about how much their country has to pay into the common pool of European resources.My assumption for the future, given the constraints, given the mood of the time, is that we cannot afford in the future net positions a deterioration of the Netherlands, of Germany [and] of Sweden, said the Polish official referring to the biggest net contributors to the EU budget, which runs to over €100 billion a year.Speaking directly about the Netherlands, where some politicians have been complaining about the amount transferred to the EU, the commissioner said: In net terms, the Netherlands belong to the biggest contributors and it has to be taken into account when negotiating the next financial perspectives because we are, of course, conscious of what the mood is in Dutch politics now.In 2009, the Netherlands paid more than €2 billion towards the EU budget, representing about 0.36 percent of GNI. Germany pays in the greatest amount each year while eastern European countries, such as Poland, receive the most in EU transfers.

The EU long-term budget runs over seven years. The current multi-annual budget - known in EU jargon as the financial perspective - expires in 2013. Negotiations on the issue are notoriously rancorous. And they have been becoming more so as the UK's controversial rebate is contested during each round, Germany can no longer be relied on to be the traditional no-questions-asked paymaster and the EU has grown to 27 countries, all of which need to agree the budget.Discussions for the 2014-2021 period are likely to be even more contentious than in previous years. Mr Lewandowski got the ball rolling over the summer by suggesting the EU should raise its own money through methods such as a financial or aviation tax, noting that the member states' direct contributions now make up over 70 percent of the budget as other revenue sources such as customs duties have fallen. This is up from 11 percent in 1988.He has also indicated he wants to open discussion on the UK rebate - fiercely defended by London - and reduce the amount spent on farm policy.A prolongation of the present trend in many areas could produce big losers. Sukkot Celebrated at Renovated Joseph’s Tomb

More than 1,000 people from all over Israel took part on Monday in special prayers for Sukkot at Joseph’s Tomb. During Sukkot, the ushpizin prayer is recited, symbolizing the welcoming of seven special guests into the sukkah, one for each day of the holiday: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Joseph and David. The prayers at Joseph’s Tomb took place on the day of Sukkot on which according to tradition, Joseph visits the sukkah.This was the first massive gathering at the site of the tomb, which was restored in a complex night-long operation, which began on Saturday night and ended on Sunday morning. Ten years ago, the tomb was destroyed and defiled by an Arab mob. During the restoration operation, a five-ton stone slab was lowered into the ancient tomb structure in the exact location where the original stone lay, before it was smashed and burned by the Arab pillagers in September 2000.

Attendees of the special gathering on Monday expressed their great excitement over the restored tomb. Taking part in the ceremony were prominent rabbis, including former French Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yosef Sitruck. Also participating were MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud), Shomron Regional Council Mayor Gershon Mesika, Yesha Council Chairman Danny Dayan, and Rabbi Nir Rosenberg of the community of Einav. Soldiers who took part in the ceremony read from the book of Tehilim (Psalms), many of them with tears of excitement in their eyes.Mesika thanked the IDF for ensuring the security of participants, and also thanked the IDF's Samaria Brigade and Civil Administration for their cooperation and assistance in the restoration efforts.This is a symbolic closure, an exciting historic moment, a tiny repair in the shame of the abandonment of Joseph’s Tomb, said Mesika. We thank the officers and soldiers for their partnership in the progressive renovation of the tomb. However, the joy is not complete at all and it is mixed with sadness about the 10 year-old disgrace, when then Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered to abandon Joseph's Tomb.He noted that No nation in the world would allow a sacred place, so symbolic to its people to be so disgraced as Joseph's Tomb. I urge the Israeli government to make amends and allow the Jewish stay at Joseph's Tomb, which was anchored even in the Oslo Accords, in which it was determined that Joseph's Tomb will remain under full Israeli control.
MK Hotovely remarked following her visit to the site: It is shocking that such a holy place as Joseph's Tomb has not yet returned to a state of permanent Jewish presence there. Joseph's Tomb should be conducted as Rachel's Tomb and the Cave of the Patriarchs are conducted, and Jews should be allowed to pray there regularly.
Right before Yom Kippur, hundreds of people gathered in the Samaria community of Mitzpe Yosef, which overlooks Joseph’s Tomb, for a special ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of Israel’s pullout from the site. During the ceremony, it was announced that the coming year will be known as the year of Joseph’s Tomb, and will include educational and public activities as well as many other special events.

UNITED NATIONS – Israel's foreign minister called Tuesday for an intermediate agreement with the Palestinians, a position directly at odds with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is trying to reach a final peace deal in the coming year.

General Assembly, Avigdor Lieberman also said the guiding principle in a final agreement must not be land-for-peace but an exchange of land to better reflect demographic realities.He said the solution must be two-staged because the emotional problems between Israelis and Palestinians can't be resolved until a new generation is raised that has mutual trust and will not be influenced by incitement and extremist messages.Under these conditions, we should focus on coming up with a long-term intermediate agreement, something that could take a few decades,Lieberman said.The prime minister's office immediately distanced Netanyahu from Lieberman's comments.The contents of the foreign minister's speech at the U.N. were not coordinated with the prime minister, it said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the one heading the political negotiations on behalf of the state of Israel. The various subjects of the peace agreement will be discussed and set only around the negotiation table and not in any other place.Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who heads the Labor Party, said Lieberman's remarks do not reflect the position of the Israeli government and certainly not the position of the Labor Party.

It will make it possible, he added, for new generations of Jews and Arabs who are not raised on hatred and incitement, to reach peace several decades hence.A permanent agreement, Lieberman said, must be based on land swaps that would involve population swaps. Lieberman stressed that he was referring to redrawing the borders in a way that reflects demographics, and not to actually moving populations from their current locations.The PMO said that Lieberman's speech was not coordinated beforehand with the Prime Minister. Security sources said that Muhammad Dababash, who was released by Egypt last week, several days after he was arrested in Cairo, is one of the few people who know where abducted IDF soldier Gilad Shalit is being held. The report appeared in Yediot Aharonot, an Israeli newspaper. The release of Dababash, a senior Hamas intelligence official, is seen as an Egyptian gesture toward Hamas that is meant to promote reconciliation between it and Fatah. According to Egyptian media, Dababash was involved in smuggling weapons through the Sinai Desert, and possibly also in launching rockets at Israel.The Israel Defense Force and other components of the Israeli defense establishment are concerned by reports coming from Damascus, on progress in the reconciliation talks being held there between the twin terror groups Hamas and Fatah.A source in the IDF praises what he says has been effective recent security cooperation with Palestinian Authority security forces, including the investigations of recent Hamas shooting attacks on Jews in Judea and Samaria. A senior security source in the IDF's Central Command told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew-language service that the Palestinian operations against terrorism are real. The reason is simple: they are not doing it for us. They believe that it is for their own good. It's not in their interest to have terror here.Senior IDF officials say the situation today is in complete contrast to the reality that prevailed ten years ago, in the years that followed the Oslo Accords. They say the PA has forsaken the system of revolving door arrests: that is, the fictitious imprisonment of terrorists and their quiet release soon afterward. But it fears that Hamas will carry out a military coup in [Judea and Samaria] as it did in Gaza. This is the only motive for PA's war against Hamas.The IDF is thus concerned over reports of signs of reconciliation between Fatah and Hamas, and by the possibility that Hamas will cease to be an enemy of the PA. According to the reports, the two terror groups have not reached agreement on security matters. The head of the Fatah faction in the Palestinian Legislative Council, Azzam Al-Ahmad, said Sunday that Hamas and Fatah had reached agreement on the electoral process in the PA and on the structure of the PLO, but that controversy remains about security cooperation with Israel, and about the continued operation of independent Hamas militia.The head of Hamas's political bureau, Khaled Mashaal, said Monday that only a few small issues need to solved in order to achieve reconciliation with Fatah. Then he told WAGA that Long exploited his dreams for a father figure in exchange for sexual favors.During services at his church Sunday, Long turned to biblical terms to portray himself as an underdog but didn't outright deny the allegations.I feel like David against Goliath. But I got five rocks, and I haven't thrown one yet, said Long, who added that while he doesn't claim to be perfect, I am not the man that's being portrayed on the television.

In the Fox interview, a vehement Parris said Long manipulated us from childhood under the guise of providing a fatherly influence. Parris was referring to himself and the other accusers, Maurice Robinson, Anthony Flagg and Spencer LeGrande. They are in their 20s now but were 17 and 18 when they had sexual relationships with Long, the lawsuits say. Long does not face criminal charges.This was our father and we loved him, Parris said.

Parris' attorney declined comment.

Speaking to Fox, Parris said Long is not being truthful to his followers. They include athletes, politicians and entertainers in the 25,000-member Lithonia church that has a $50 million, 10,000-seat cathedral and more than 40 ministries. Long, who has been New Birth pastor since 1987, has spoken out loudly against gay marriage.
That man cannot look me in my eye and tell me we did not live this pain, he said. South Korea says 2 Koreas to hold military talks

SEOUL, South Korea – North and South Korea have agreed to hold their first working-level military talks in two years, Seoul's Defense Ministry said Wednesday.Officers from the two sides were to meet Thursday in the truce village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarized Zone that divides the peninsula, the ministry said. They last held such talks in October 2008.North Korea had earlier this month proposed the meeting to discuss the western maritime border and anti-North Korean leaflets spread by South Koreans. The ministry would not confirm Wednesday what would be on the upcoming meeting's agenda.The poorly marked western sea border, drawn by the United Nations at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War, is a constant source of tension between the two Koreas.Seoul has repeatedly rejected the North's long-standing demands that the sea border be changed. The navies of the two Koreas engaged in three bloody skirmishes near the area in 1999, 2002 and 2009.Military tensions have been high since a South Korean patrol ship sank in March, killing 46 sailors.
