A major Ghanaian news outlet has been caught in a revealing slip-up after it reported that President Barack Obama’s recent visit to the African country was a return to his birthplace.Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution states, No person except a natural born citizen… shall be eligible to the office of president.This invalidates the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency if, as a growing number of people believe, he was in fact born in Kenya and not Hawaii as he claims. After mounting pressure, the Obama campaign released a Hawaiian birth certificate on June 13 2008, but skeptics claimed that it showed signs of being forged.Contained in an otherwise relatively mundane account of Obama’s recent visit to Ghana in the Daily Graphic news outlet is a sentence sure to raise eyebrows amongst people like journalist Jerome Corsi, who has been at the forefront of the Obama birth certificate scandal since well before the election.The full paragraph reads, For Ghana, Obama’s visit will be a celebration of another milestone in African history as it hosts the first-ever African-American President on this presidential visit to the continent of his birth.

Why the Ghanaian news outlet would report that Obama was born on the continent of Africa, when this would instantly invalidate his entire presidency, is unclear.In April a transcript from an interview with Obama’s step-grandmother was released in which she discussed being present at Obama’s birth in Mombasa, Kenya.WND is in possession of an affidavit submitted by Rev. Kweli Shuhubia, an Anabaptist minister in Kenya, who is the official Swahili translator for the annual Anabaptist Conference in Kenya, and a second affidavit signed by Bishop Ron McRae, the presiding elder of the Anabaptists’ Continental Presbytery of Africa,reported Corsi.In his affidavit, Shuhubia asserts it is common knowledge throughout the Christian and Muslim communities in Kenya that Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., was born in Mombasa, Kenya.As Corsi reported recently, the hospital in Hawaii where Obama claims he was born has refused to produce documentation or even acknowledge the fact. Attempts to obtain Obama’s hospital-generated long-form original birth certificate have been rebuffed.
Doubts about Obama’s birth certificate are now spreading in military circles. U.S. Army Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook has refused to deploy to Afghanistan on the grounds that Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States and is therefore ineligible to serve as commander-in-chief. Cook’s lawyer, Orly Taitz, has filed separate lawsuits challenging the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency.

India is preparing to issue biometric identification cards to every one of its 1.2 billion citizens in what is being called the biggest Big Brother project yet conceived,according to a published report.This fresh piece of reporting just in from the Times Online:It is surely the biggest Big Brother project yet conceived. India is to issue each of its 1.2 billion citizens, millions of whom live in remote villages and possess no documentary proof of existence, with cyber-age biometric identity cards.The Government in Delhi recently created the Unique Identification Authority, a new state department charged with the task of assigning every living Indian an exclusive number. It will also be responsible for gathering and electronically storing their personal details, at a predicted cost of at least £3 billion.The task will be led by Nandan Nilekani, the outsourcing sage who coined the phrase the world is flat, which became a mantra for supporters of globalisation. It is a humongous, mind-boggling challenge,he told The Times.But we have the opportunity to give every Indian citizen, for the first time, a unique identity. We can transform the country.

If the cards were piled on top of each other they would be 150 times as high as Mount Everest — 1,200 kilometres.The card will include a computer chip with either a fingerprint or an iris scan, the report says. The card may even be tied to criminal and credit histories. And last, but certainly not least, with just about 7 percent of Indian society registered to pay income tax, this new database of citizens — potentially the largest ever attempted — will certainly aid in the government’s collection of funds.

MR. ADNAN OKTAR'S INTERVIEW BY JOEL RICHARDSON (22 June 2009)

JOEL RICHARDSON: Let’s begin if you could. Share with us some of the most essential elements of what you believe with regards to the Mahdi.
ADNAN OKTAR: Yes. Hazrat Mahdi (as) is a person who will appear before the coming of the Prophet Jesus, who will unite Muslims in the Islamic world, whose aim is love, who will take affection and compassion as basis, who seeks to eradicate all weapons from the world, who will disarm the world, who will eliminate all weapons from the world and build peace and brotherhood. But false Mahdis and false Messiahs will come before Hazrat Mahdi (as). That also appears in the Bible. We are told that a false Muslim leader will appear and that false prophets will emerge. This also takes place in the hadith as well. These false prophets and messiahs have appeared to date. But now is the time of the real Mahdi (as), we can see all the portents of the true Mahdi (as) now. The greatest characteristic of the true Mahdi (as) is that he will take love, affection and brotherhood as basis. For instance in one account it says: Hazrat Mahdi (as) will be so compassionate that in his time neither the sleeper will be woken nor will anyone’s nose be made to bleed.Hazrat Mahdi (as) will perform such great and important services that it is said in accounts that not only people will be delighted with his rule, but also will all the creatures of the earth and sky. Accounts say that in the same way that the people of the earth and sky will be pleased with him, so will the birds in the air, wild animals in the forests and even the fish in the sea. In his, Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) time, the wolf and the sheep will graze together, snakes will not hurt children, and a man will sow one handful but reap 700 handfuls. El-Kavlu'l Muhtasar Fi Alamet-il Mehdiyy-il Muntazar. This is an entirely trustworthy book of hadith. Insha’Allah, in the time of the Mahdi (as) the world will be disarmed for the very first time and a true climate of peace will emerge. For instance the Sünen-i İbn-i Mace is a highly reliable book of hadith. A trustworthy book of hadith. Look, it states this quite openly. The people of war will abandon their burdens, their arms and their tools in the time of the Mahdi (as).The Sünen-i Ibn-i Mace. Doomsday, the Hereafter and the Portents of the End Times; the people of war will abandon all their weapons and equipment. Imam-i Sharani. In Death, Doomsday and the Hereafter, the Portents of the End Times it states: The Mahdi (as) will eliminate enmity and hatred. The world will be filled with peace like a bowl with water. Religious unity will be born, and none but Allah will be worshiped. War will abandon its burden.All kinds of weapons, tanks, planes and bombs will be eliminated. The Sünen-i Ibn-i Mace, pages 331-335. But the false Mahdis and Messiahs who come before him will ground themselves in bloodshed, destruction and bombing. But this will not apply to the true Mahdi. He will offer a world that has been disarmed and is full of love and peace.

There is a verse in the Holy Qur’an that emphasizes this. Verse 46 of Surat al-Ankabut says, Only argue with the people of the Book meaning Christians and Jews in the kindest way.Meaning we must tell them things with verbal descriptions, with love and affection. Saying, We have iman in what has been sent down to us.In other words, we believe in the Qur’an that has been sent down to us, but we also believe in the Bible and in the Old Testament that has been sent to you.Our God and your God are one.Allah we believe in and Allah you believe in is the same. He is One and Only. And we submit to Him.The Qur’an forbids war and bloodshed against the people of the Book. Look, it is been made quite clear – Only argue with the people of the Book in the kindest way.Allah says there can be no armed struggle against them. Not by bloodshed, but convincing them with love, affection and science and only as much as it could be. If they are not convinced, that must also be respected. There are verses of the Qur’an that states Your religion for you, our religion for us.There is no compulsion in Islam. There is a verse to that effect. There is a crystal clear pronouncement in the Qur’an which states There is no compulsion in the deen. .The Mahdi cannot kill the Anti-Christ, meaning he cannot neutralize him. The Prophet Jesus will eliminate the Anti-Christ. Look what Said Nursi says; Moreover, in the world of humanity, with the intention of denying the Godhead,- that is to say the denial of the existence of Allah- the secret society of the Dajjal (Anti-Christ) will overturn civilization and subvert- that is to say clutter- all mankind's sacred matters. A zealous and self-sacrificing community known as a Christian community, but worthy of being called Muslim Christians,will work to unite the true religion of Jesus (peace be upon him)-that is to say the real religion- with the reality of Islam, and will neutralize and rout that society of the Dajjal under the command of Jesus, thus saving humanity from atheism. Letters, page 515 The killing being referred to here is of course not a deliberate killing using weapons or bloodshed, not the classic meaning of killing, but an intellectual one. He will do away with his ideas.

JOEL RICHARDSON: With regard to the rule and reign of the Mahdi, clearly you are emphasizing the non-violent and peaceful elements of his reign. We have a saying in the United States; we say; we are playing the devil’s advocate. And so my question to you first would be; do you believe the four rightly guided caliphs, the four caliphs were indeed rightly guided. And that the methods by which they spread Islam throughout much of the Middle East do you believe that the methods that they used by God, would you believe that they were using an improper and non-Islamic methods?
ADNAN OKTAR: Knowledge of history is not particularly determinative for us. Knowledge of the Qur’an is very important for us and the trustworthy hadith are very important. Our Prophet (saas) praises two periods. His own time and the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as). Excluding the time of Omar, Othman,Ali, and Abu Bakr excluding the period of the great Companions, there were major upheavals, difficulties and also good aspects in other periods. But the basic measure for us is the Qur’an and the trustworthy hadith. When we look at these we see that the End Times will be enormously pleasant and peaceful. Because there is no other path apart from love in a world without weapons. No climate in which we might expect oppression and violence remains. Because an unarmed person cannot oppress anyone. The whole question is one of a disarmed, love-filled world. The Mahdi (as) and the Prophet Jesus will bring that about.
Verse 61 of Surat az-Zukhruf says, “He [Jesus(as) - The Messiah] is a sign of the hour.There is a verse describing him as a sign. In other words, the coming of the Prophet Jesus is a sign for Doomsday, the most important event of the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as). For example, in verse 55 of Surat al-Imran Allah says, I will raise you up and take you back to me and purify those of you who are kafir.I will purge Christianity of the enemies of the Prophet Jesus, of the enemies of Christianity at that time. I will purify you off them, that is to say I will save you from them He says that those who follow you and love you, those who loves Jesus, who loves the Messiah – and we love him and you do too-, He says He will make those who love the Prophet Jesus superior to the deniers until the time of Doomsday, until the times very near to the Doomsday. He says He will make them a superior force for the ones who love Jesus. Then you will all return to Me,says Allah. This verse makes it clear that Islam will rule the world. He says, I will place the people who follow you above those who are kafir until the Day of Rising.That means He is saying He will make them strong and sovereign in all respects, social, political and economical. Whoever loves the Prophet Jesus, I mean Muslims with faith and whoever really loves the Prophet Jesus. In verse 159 of Surat an-Nisa Allah says,There is not one of the People of the Book [Christians and Jews] who will not believe in him before he dies; and on the Day of Rising he will be a witness against them.What does that mean? It means Islam will rule the world. It appears separately from this expression and from other verses that Islam will rule the world. Allah swears There is not one of the People of the Book who will not believe in him before he dies.Everyone will believe. What does that mean? Everyone in the world, wherever they may be, in Africa, Asia or the in the North Pole or the South Pole will believe in the Prophet Jesus when he comes. And that means the world dominion of Islam. In his Tasdik-i Gaybi Said Nursi says of Hazrat Mahdi (as): The Mahdi’s third task will be to create an alliance with devout Christians and Christian scholars and to serve Islam in co-operation and solidarity, acting together with them.That is how he describes Hazrat Mahdi’s (as) third task.

JOEL RICHARDSON: I have a very interesting question. In some of your previous interviews I have heard people ask you questions about the Mahdi you said – they have asked you questions with regard to the identification, the identity of the Mahdi and you have been very emphatic that the Mahdi would never ever say that he is the Mahdi. The Mahdi will simply be acknowledged as such through his actions. So I certainly understand that the Mahdi would never claim to be the Mahdi. That said; do you ever wonder would you ever hope that you yourself are the Mahdi.

ADNAN OKTAR: I have been asked this far too many times. Looking at the hadith, we do see that my external appearance does indeed resemble many of the signs. If they ask me whether the signs are upon me, if I said no, it would be dishonest, a downright lie and very ugly to deny it. Because people look at me and say that the Mahdi’s (as) brow is very broad. It would be a terrible lie for me to say that mine is narrow. They say the Mahdi (as) is bearded and that he has a mole on his cheek and a furrow on his brow between his eyebrows. People look and see that I have one furrow, and it would be unpleasant and annoy people for me to deny it. And I have a mark on my back, so why lie about it? There is a mole on my back, just like that of our Prophet (saas). It is said that Mahdi would have another mole on his back. I have that as well. He says the Mahdi will be of medium stature, and true I am of medium height. Who would believe it if I said I was tall or short? That would be really abnormal. For example he says the Mahdi (as) has broad shoulders. And how can I say that my broad shoulders are narrow? He says his stomach is wide. Should I say that mine is not? For instance he says His thighs are wide, should I say mine are not? My appearance from top to bottom is certainly like his, that is an apparent truth. He says the Mahdi (as) has a broad forehead, and I have a broad forehead. He says his hair and beard are black and that he has a mole on his cheek. There is a mole on my left cheek. Some people sometimes ask about this too. I have a mole on my right leg, and that is also a characteristic of the Mahdi (as). But despite all this I never claim to be Hazrat Mahdi (as). People must not waste their time on that. I try to convince people who come to me with that claim to return to the deen, to enter Islam. It would be irreligious for anyone to come to me and say you are the Mahdi (as), and I make no such claim. But it is true there is a resemblance. But the Prophet Jesus will come and Islam will rule the world. The Prophet Jesus will pray with Hazrat Mahdi (as), and then we can say that this person, Allah knows the truth, is Hazrat Mahdi (as) and does indeed look like him. But apart from this, nobody can make any claim regarding Hazrat Mahdi (as) on the basis of physical appearance alone. Some people do, but these are false Mahdis prior to the real Hazrat Mahdi (as). The Bible also speaks of this. And there are hadith on the subject. False Mahdis will emerge and state clearly that they are the Mahdi. There will be false Jesuses and false Messiahs... These have appeared and are still appearing and openly saying that is who they are. The rank of Mahdi is attained through success, not by claiming it. But the resemblance is true, there are many similarities, and there is no question of hiding these during a sincere conversation. Of course I will state it honestly, but when it comes to making such claims, I would not have such a claim.I fear Allah and I can go to hell as well as to paradise. I am a humble servant of Allah, just an ordinary human being. I have never claimed to be anyone extraordinary.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Okay thank you. With regard to Jesus; you have said in my view the prophet Jesus has already returned to the earth but he is hidden. He is obliged to conceal himself because of the terrorist and political attacks he would be exposed to. However he too will emerge in the very near future and together with the Mahdi will embark upon his intellectual struggle.Do you believe that when Jesus return he will abolish Christianity as we know it today, do you believe that he will abolish the doctrines of the trinity of the divine incarnation of the Messiah as well as the Christian doctrine that the Christ was crucified died resurrected and sent to heaven?

ADNAN OKTAR: The essential belief in Christianity is the Oneness of Allah, belief in the hereafter, justice, the idea that Allah will provide justice. It is loving Allah and being careful over what is lawful and unlawful. It is treating people well. These are other matters, the belief in Trinity and other things. If with the coming of the Jesus, if it undergoes a change in the sense we are familiar with then Christianity would return to its former perfect state. It will return to its original form. According to our beliefs, it will return to the true Christianity. Again according to our belief, the original and the true Bible will also be found in that time. Maybe they will examine it using the Carbon 14 technique or using other methods, but the original form of the Gospels will be found. I mean, when the prophet Jesus comes and says that Allah is One, that is not something that will do away with Christianity. He would be saying something that reinforces Christianity. I mean, Christianity is in any case a religion of Islam. If we had lived in the time of the Prophet Jesus, we would have been Christians as well. If we had been around in the time of the Prophet Musa, we would have been Jews. Consequently the religion of the Prophet Ibrahim was also the true deen at the time and unaltered Christianity brought by the Prophet Jesus is the true Christianity. The Torah and the religion brought by the Prophet Musa is also the true faith, but according to our belief it has gradually been altered over the course of time. When the Prophet Jesus comes- there are some Christians sects that are against the Cross. They do not have the Cross. I believe there are even some such sects and various groups in America. But they still say We are Christians,I mean this does not stop them being Christians. In other words, it is their believing in the Oneness of Allah and in the statements of the Prophet Jesus on other matters, their acceptance of statements compatible with the Qur’an, that makes them truly Christian and that makes them a true Muslim, it makes their belief a true religion of Islam. In our belief, when the Prophet Jesus comes he will correct certain altered aspects of the New Testament. He will restore the New Testament to its original form and consequently he will be following the Qur’an. That is to say a New Testament whose altered aspects have been corrected will in any case be restored to its pure and original form. But since the Qur’an is the final scripture, of course the Prophet Jesus will follow the Qur’an. But the pronouncements of the New Testament will not be invalidated. I mean the pronouncements of a true scripture will not be lifted. For example, the true pronouncements of the original form of the Torah will not be invalidated; I read the Torah night and day, for instance. I read the New Testament. There is no reason for those pronouncements to be lifted. For example, the Torah says that Allah is One. That delights me, it is a most excellent thing to say. Only those parts that are incorrect according to our belief will be put right. Otherwise no pronouncement of that book can be lifted. But I follow the Qur’an, of course. And when the Prophet Jesus comes he will also follow the Qur’an. But Muslims will also benefit from the New Testament and will read it. They will abide by the correct pronouncements in it. And they will abide by the correct pronouncements in the Torah as well. Because all three, the Qur’an, the Torah and the New Testament, say the same things, so if you comply with one you would be complying with all. A Christian who complies with the original New Testament does not leave Christianity rather consolidates it. When the New Testament turns into its original form I will abide by it too. Of course I follow the Qur’an, but I also apply the correct and proper pronouncements in the New Testament. I will also apply the correct and proper pronouncements in the Torah when it is found, and if there are parts of it that have been changed by the pronouncements of the Qur’an, then of course I follow the Qur’an. But I comply by all those pronouncements that are the same in all three.

JOEL RICHARDSON: I want to move on and discuss the Turkish led Islamic Union with you very much but before I do I want to touch on some of what you just discussed. You are a thinking individual. Obviously you have produced over 300 books, written over 300 books and produced these massive volumes. Specifically with the regard to creationism, opposing Darwinism. So you are someone who is willing to examine the facts. Examine the evidences examine history so as to correct the false teachings of the Darwinists. As I hear the overall theme of all that we are talking about, various issues pop up in my head. Specifically I want to ask you about the crucifixion Death, burial resurrection of Christ which Christians have always taught. When Christians look at the evidence for the historicity of this event what we see is numerous logical reasonable historical facts which establish the fact that Jesus did die on the cross and did come back to life. Twelve of Jesus’s disciples well all but one of Jesus’s twelve disciples died as martyrs were proclaiming the same message that Christians proclaim today. Which is that Jesus in fact did come and die on the cross according to the prophecies of the Old Testament. And I guess my question to you is how is that you are able to reconcile your faith which denies this historical event, with the numerous facts that we can examine, for instance why would 11 individuals die for something that they know it to be a lie. Did Allah deceive them, did Jesus deceive his disciples? If so what does that speak about the nature of Allah? In the Qur’an there is the verse that says with regard to the crucifixion that Christians have only conjecture to follow but in fact just the opposite is true we have numerous reasonable historical facts that we stand on when we look at this claim, that it is Christians that have only conjecture to follow the fact of the matter is that when we look at the Islamic Ummah we see that there are numerous theories among the Islamic scholars with regard to what really happened. And that Muslim scholars cannot even begin to come to any form of agreement, as far as what they do believe happened at the cross. Some say that Jesus was replaced with someone on the cross yet they can’t agree as to who that may have been. Some say Judas some say someone else. Some Muslim scholars say that Jesus did get crucified but then he was revived and came back, some people say that it was made to appear. There is numerous theories suggested by Muslim scholars so in fact when we look at the reality it is Islam that has only conjecture to follow where as Christianity has numerous Christian as well as many non-Christian historians that attest clearly to the fact in fact this is one of the most solidly established facts of history that Jesus in fact did die on the cross. So I guess my question to you is as a scientific thinker as someone who someone relies often on reason on facts and evidences, how is it that you are able to deny such a significant demonstrable portion of history?

ADNAN OKTAR: The Prophet Jesus is different to the other prophets. That is clearly seen in the Qur’an. He is an extraordinary person. His miracles are most extraordinary. He resurrects the dead, for instance, and he shapes mud into the form of a bird and when he blows onto that bird shaped clay the bird flies away. He is such an extraordinary individual. So it is out of question for a handful of worthless people making such an extraordinary person cry out and strapping him onto the cross. Jesus (as) is an exceptionally special prophet under the special protection of Allah. On account of this, the person who gave him away said:He is in that room, I will show him to you.The Roman troops took him and he led them as the squealer. This was the 13th disciple. I think his name was Judas Iscariot. And he entered the room he thought the Prophet Jesus was in. It is true that Jesus was there. When he entered the room to betray the Prophet Jesus, to turn him over to the Romans, Allah took the Prophet Jesus into the sky. That is to say the prophet Jesus ascended beyond time and space. He had been taken to a different dimension. Allah raised him into the sky, to His presence, with his original clothing and shoes, the sandals between his toes, the long robe he had on, and even with the possessions he had on his person. Only Judas was left there, Judas Iscariot. When the Roman soldiers entered they looked for the Prophet Jesus and imagined that since he looked very much like him and had long hair just like him, Judas was the Prophet Jesus. Allah says that He caused him to resemble the prophet. The Romans beat him bloody, beat him black and blue so that he was unrecognizable, and crucified him. Elohi, elohi, that person says. Why have you forsaken me? For one thing, the Prophet Jesus would not say such a thing. The prophet Jesus was someone with a sincere and powerful faith in Allah. He was an extraordinary person and would never say such a thing. It is clear even from that alone that these were the words of Judas Iscariot. Judah Iscariot was crucified, and his followers may have removed him from the tomb shortly thereafter, his friends or his family may have taken him away from his grave later on, that is a diffirent issue on its own. But Almighty Allah clarifies the issue in the Qur’an, saying and their saying, We killed- qatalna- the Messiah, Isa son of Maryam, Messenger of Allah.They did not kill him -wama qataloohu- says Allah, they did not kill him and they did not crucify him- wama salaboohu- but it was made to seem so to them.Who? That Judas Iscariot. shubbiha says Allah, that means It was made to seem so. Those who argue about him are in doubt about it.That is to say they were unable decide says Allah. They have no real knowledge of it, just conjecture.Allah says they are just making suggestions out of conjecture, He says there is no such thing. Allah says But they certainly did not kill him.Allah repeats wama qataloohu and He says: I will take you back and raise you up to Me – warafiAAuka- and purify you of those who are kafir. And I will place the people who follow you above those who are kafir until the Day of Rising.The Prophet Jesus was raised to the skies in his sleep, and he will be brought back again in his sleep. He will be consigned in his sleep to a Christian community, one reminiscent of Islam. Jesus(as) will be wearing the same original clothes, but he will be unable to remember his own past. He will later study the Qur’an, the Torah and the New Testament. He will begin acting according to the Qur’an. He will restore the New Testament to its essential and original form, but he will abide by the Qur’an. And he will call on the entire Christian world to follow the Qur’an. In this way, those parts of the New Testament that our belief says are corrupted or distorted will be eliminated, though these are in any case few in number.

Look at verse 5 of Surat al-Ma’ida. And the food of those given the Book- that is to say You can eat meat slaughtered by the people of the Book, by Christians and Jews, - is also halal for you and your food is halal for them.That means one can eat food prepared by Jews.So are chaste women from among the muminun and chaste women of those given the Book before you, once you have given them their dowries in marriage One can marry women from the people of the Book, Jews and Christians in other words. For a person to get married to someone means that he has great trust in and loves the person he marries. Because that woman will be the mother of his children. The Muslim attitude toward Christianity is thus set out in this verse.In Surah Al-Maidah, 5/5.
For example, Allah says Those who have iman and those who are Jews and the Sabaeans and the Christians, all who have iman in Allah and the Last Day and act rightly will feel no fear and will know no sorrow.That means Allah says they can enter paradise, He says that they will enter paradise, insha’Allah. Allah says ,for instance, Among the people of the Book there are some who have iman in Allah and in what has been sent down to you and what was sent down to them,- to the Qur’an, to the Old Testament and the New Testament – and who are humble before Allah. They do not sell Allah’s Signs for a paltry price. Such people will have their reward with their Lord.The Almighty Allah says they believe in the Torah , in the New Testament and in the Qur’an.

JOEL RICHARDSON: I want to address a few points that you made; first of all I very much appreciate you articulating the Islamic perspective regarding what happened on the cross at least your version of the Islamic perspective. But I think that you still didn’t answer my question; which is how do you deal with the historical facts regarding the crucifixion of Christ? Do you generally just tend to ignore the abundance, the wealth of evidence that we have? For instance how do you deal with the reality that all of Jesus’s disciples preached and went about the whole world preaching the message that Jesus died on the cross and then came back to life in accordance with the prophecies of the whole Old Testament? How do you deal with the fact that these men were willing to die for something that they believed in so deeply? Do you just simply disregard this just despite the abundant historical evidence? And then secondly I just want to clarify a misconception that you have when Jesus cried out on the cross My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me? There are many Muslims that believed that Jesus was actually crying out to Allah in saying Oh God why have you forsaken me? actually asking this question. What he was actually doing was quoting a verse, a passage from the Old Testament, this was very common in oral societies who memorized much of their scriptures orally. And he was making reference to Psalm 22; so by making this statement, by declaring the first verse from the 22 Psalm Jesus was calling to his disciples attention the prophecies in Psalm 22 which predicted that the Messiah would come and suffer and actually die at the hands of his enemies. So Jesus was essentially saying, he wasn’t saying Oh, God help me, why? what he was doing was saying to his disciples he was inferring to them Look, I am fulfilling the prophecies of King David and in fact i am the fulfillment of that which all the prophets have spoken of. So I just wanted to clarify that misconception and then also just get back and just ask How is it that you as a thinking person, who again who looks at the evidences, who looks at the all of the various facts for instance with regard the Darwinism, how is it that you are able to in essence disregard and ignore such a vast wealth of information and would you be willing to consider looking at and studying some of this information more and considering whether or not it is the biblical narrative as opposed to the Qur’anic narrative which is in fact true? Because this is an essential, essential point.

ADNAN OKTAR: Whether or not Jesus was crucified does not actually alter his attributes. As per our belief, we of coursecan tell from the Qur’an that no such thing was done to the Prophet Jesus, I mean no such thing had happened. He was taken into the sky. I mean there is something extraordinary there. The important thing is that Prophet Jesus was raised up and those people failed. They failed, Allah foiled their trap and he was raised up to the sky. But of course, for your hearts to be put at rest, what will be necessary is that the prophet Jesus to return and describe it himself. In other words, I do not think you will worry about that subject when he returns, because the important thing is the Prophet Jesus’s general teachings. We say that the Prophet Jesus was not crucified. His not being crucified is a good thing, it is much better than that him being crucified. He could have suffered that, face such difficulties, but Allah did not put him in that position according to our belief. But when he returns he will speak of this himself. No more than 10 or 15 years remain until the coming of the Prophet Jesus. The facts will then emerge. The prophet Jesus will tell people what those expressions meant. Those expressions in the Torah certainly mean something. The Prophet Jesus will explain them in the finest manner.
He may give a most astonishing explanation, one that people never expected. It may be a code they never knew. The Prophet Jesus will best explain it, but even if we were to look into it, we may also interpret it in a logical manner. That is to say we can work on a logical but the fact that the Prophet Jesus was not crucified does not stop him being the Prophet Jesus. There is no need to have been crucified for a prophet to be the Prophet Jesus. It is a good thing he was not crucified, a slap in the face to the irreligious and his enemies. In other words that means Allah foiled their snares. He humiliated and disgraced them. He raised the Prophet Jesus and will send him back as an immaculate prophet. In any case an extraordinary miracle will take place. I mean the fact that after some 2000 years a prophet will return to earth and enter the dimension of time and space, is something extraordinary. When he comes, the best thing will be to abide by what he says. This will be very powerful evidence for Christians, convincing evidence. The Qur’an is sufficient for us, of course, but it is very important for Christians to hear it from the Prophet Jesus’s own mouth. He will explain those pronouncements in the Torah. That will be a most surprising explanation. You will be amazed by it and it will be perfectly reasonable. We need to be relaxed about this as we await the Prophet Jesus. We must trust the Prophet Jesus and Allah.

He will espouse all the beauties and truths in the New Testament. I also read the New Testament night and day. Those parts that are compatible with the Qur’an truly delight me. I read the Torah as well and act on those parts that are compatible with the Qur’an. But there are aspects that do not agree with the Qur’an. One loses nothing by not acting on those, and that does not stop one being a believer. Abandoning a false pronouncement, one that is false in our view, actually binds one even close to the Book’s pronouncements. It enables one to be a true Jew or Christian. The important thing is to love Allah very much and, inshaAllah to be together with Him in the hereafter. The Prophet Musa, the Prophet Jesus, Christians, Jews and Muslims will all be together, inshaAllah. But of course the ones that are in the true manner described by the Qur’an, by the true Torah and the true New Testament will be together. The important thing is to love and believe in Allah. I mean the rest , for instance when it comes to performing the namaz some Muslims hold their hand a bit higher and others a bit lower, these are just details, but what matters is the Existence and Oneness of Allah, to love and fear Allah, and to earn His approval and thus live in happiness forever. But of course this is according to our belief, and it is rather different for a Christian, it is rather different according to their current beliefs. I of course do respect their beliefs and the beliefs of all the faiths.

JOEL RICHARDSON: I want to somewhat move on. I think this is an area where we say sometimes we just have to agree to disagree. There is a prophecy in the Bible that says that the day will come and the Prophet Zekeriya when Jesus will return and it says that all the families of the earth will look upon the one who may have pierced. And they will mourn and weep for him as one mourns for the loss of an only son and that it says specifically that all the peoples of the earth will come to recognize that Jesus in fact the one that returns was the one that was pierced. So my hope and pray for you deeply is that perhaps before that day but at the very least on that day that when you see the risen Christ the Christ of the Bible return and recognize that in fact it was the Christ that was crucified. And that in fact the testimony of the Bible is true. That it is reliable that it is historical. That you also would come to be one of his servants and then also I would like you to promise me that you would read the book that I gave you with regard to the resurrection by Josh McDowell and perhaps at a later time we could discuss this a little bit more in depth. Because for the Christians the issue as to whether or not Christ was crucified or not, as to whether or not the testimony of the Bible is true or the denial of that by the Qur’an is essential and at the core foundation of our faith. So not to put a burden on you I know you are a very busy man but I would like you to promise me that you will consider some of the evidences because for my perspective, from the perspective of a Christian this is the difference between eternity with him or without him, in Heaven or in Hell.

ADNAN OKTAR: I am someone who lives for Allah. These activities are very important for me. It is an honor and a blessing rather than an inconvenience. I will read those books of course. I shall read them all, read all three. I promise you that. In addition, we can communicate over the internet and you can send me questions. I will look into them in detail. I shall research everything you say in detail. You send me detailed responses and a wealth of information will emerge. Let us prepare the environment before the coming of the Prophet Jesus. Moreover, come again and be our guest. Let us meet up very often. If you have other knowledgeable brothers like yourself, priests or clergymen, you can all come together. You can come with a couple of friends and we can talk and discuss things. We can go into more detail. There may be areas we have not seen or are unaware of, and that will be very good. But let us be in constant contact. Because for me, acting together with Christians is exceedingly important; acting in alliance with Christians and those who love the Prophet Jesus against atheism and waging an intellectual struggle against those false ideas is of vital importance to me. Said Nursi also gave us, his followers, advice on the same subject. He regarded it as a matter of importance. And from that perspective I love Christians very much, I love you all very much, let me tell you that.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Okay moving on to the Turkish led Islamic Union. I think this is a very, very important that you have been espousing and casting the vision for a Turkish led Islamic union and I have a million questions that I would love to ask you about this. But right off the bed by this title Turkish led Islamic Union is it fair to say that what you are calling for is a Caliphate? Is there any significant difference between a caliphate and what you are calling for with regard to a Turkish led Islamic Union.

ADNAN OKTAR: States will maintain their unitary structures in the same way. Secular systems will continue as they are. There can be no question of mutual interference in states’ systems, but ties of friendship, brotherhood and love will be strengthened, there will be a serious attitude adopted toward terror and anarchy, and strong efforts will be made to disarm the world. All the delights of Islamic moral values will be put into action and feelings of brotherhood and mutual aid will be reinforced. But the ultimate aim is to establish brotherhood throughout the world and a complete end to terror, bloodshed and anarchy. Great efforts will be made to rid the world of all weapons, especially nuclear weapons. It will be a union that includes Israel, Armenia, the Orthodox, Russia and Catholic Christians. Jews and Christians will be brothers and will all take their places as friends within the union.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Would it be fair to say that according to your understanding that the vision for such groups as perhaps Hizbul Tahrir would be compatible with your vision for the Turkish led Islamic Union?

ADNAN OKTAR: Of course they are entrusted to us by Allah. The Jews are the children of the Prophet Ibrahim. Christians are people who love the Prophet Jesus, who love Allah and who believe in the other prophets. Of course Muslims have a debt to protect and look out for them. That is a duty Muslims must perform. Of course they will discharge this duty in the best way to bring them peace and happiness. That is a religious observance. For example, our Prophet (saas) collected all the Muslims together and brought them off to Ethiopia, where there was a Christian administration at the time. Would the Muslims have gone there and entrusted their goods, assets and honor in that way if they had not had such trust in Christians? And our Prophet (saas) went to that Christian state and sought refuge to save his life, and migrated there. He lived there happily with them, as brothers. This is a continuation of that brotherhood.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Your organization and you are involved in dialogue with many different groups. And I was fascinated in speaking with your assistant Şeyda when she informed me that you have actually been in contact with the Obama administration. Specifically with regard to the Turkish led Islamic Union. Would you mind sharing a little bit about how you have been involved or what type of dialogue you have experienced with Obama administration.

ADNAN OKTAR: I spoke withObama’s advisor. Not with Obama himself. But we talked the matter over together.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Şeyda had also mentioned that she was of the understanding that the Obama administration also had set up some form of research committee to try to understand the issue of Al Mahdi. Is that accurate?

ADNAN OKTAR: That is something that has been around for a long time. I mean there is a study in that respect in America, and this is not the first, it is nothing new. There are research groups engaged on it, and institutes, and work is taking place.
JOEL RICHARDSON: What type of evidences have you seen have you observed that perhaps the Obama administration may in fact be looking very favorable toward this notion of a Turkish led Islamic Union.

ADNAN OKTAR: Radical Islam is the subject that is alarming America and the whole world at the moment. There is an aggressive and repressive way of thinking, foreign to Sunni belief, that does not recognize love or affection, that seeks to incite bloodshed and disagreement on all matters, and that behaves in the exact opposite manner to that described by Messenger of Allah (sav). And there are all kinds of terrorist ideas, the deep states of many countries that shed blood, inflict suffering on people, bomb places and spread savagery. Since such a union will eradicate all this, everyone will want it. Because it is very pleasant to live in a world with no oppression, to live in a world with no bloodshed, a paradise on earth. This is also set out in the Torah. It describes in great detail how there will be such a climate in the time of the Messiah. According to my belief, and there are also many indications of this in the Qur’an, but in my opinion, the person described in the Torah as the Messiah, the Messiah-King, is in fact Hazrat Mahdi (as). And people will live in happiness in that time, the venom of the snakes would be removed and the aggression of the wild animals would be tamed. That is also mentioned in the Bible. We are now longing for those days. Every rational person desires to get rid of an environment that is suffering from violence and oppression. That is an ideal for every Muslim, and that is how paradise is, as you know, a place where one lives in peace. It is to turn the world into a kind of paradise and then inshaAllah if Allah permits, if we achieve His approval, to go to paradise and live there in happiness forever. That is a delightful thing, but our sole aim, of course, is Allah’s approval.

JOEL RICHARDSON: You mentioned with regard to the Islamic Union that the various states would be able to maintain their secular form of government. But you also envision a time when the Turkish led Islamic Union will be governed by the Shariah as well.

ADNAN OKTAR: Every country can live as it wishes according to the decision of its people. Iran can live according to its own belief, but they will have a spiritual leader. In the same way that the Pope is the spiritual leader of Christians, Muslims will also have a spiritual leader. But there will be no system that interferes in anyone’s beliefs, and no such thing exists in the essence of the deen. There is a verse that clearly says there is no compulsion in the deen. People are free in their beliefs, and there is no compulsion in religion, and everyone can live as they wish. There will be people with no religion, atheists and Freemasons in society. There will be people who hold other beliefs, and all beliefs will be respected. The important thing is for beliefs to be respected, for beliefs to be placed under guarantee, for people to live in safety and for there to be no anarchy and terror.

JOEL RICHARDSON: You have also expressed that when the Mahdi comes that he would in essence reform Islam and bring many, many new things and that the Islam of history would be changed dramatically. To what degree do you believe that the Mahdi will change Islam and how much, to what degree do you expect to see this and is this something that is generally acknowledged by most Muslims who await the Mahdi.
ADNAN OKTAR: It will be like the time of the Companions. Like the time of our Prophet (saas), that is to say the conception of freedom, love and friendship of that time will be adopted. We need to look at the essence of the faith on this subject, which is to love and fear Allah, to believe in the hereafter, to believe that He will manifest justice and to be careful over what is lawful and unlawful. Someone who makes this a reality in his heart is an honest person, someone who behaves correctly.
JOEL RICHARDSON: I have also been very fascinated to learn that you have a vision and belief according to your traditions , that when the Mahdi comes, he will rebuilt the Mescit of Suleyman. The Palace of Solomon in Jerusalem that the Temple Mount will in essence be shared with Muslims and Jews as well. Could you tell me a little bit about this? And where do these particular traditions come from, are there some hadith that speak of this?

ADNAN OKTAR: There is of course no source for these in trustworthy books of hadith, but things that are right and true are also evident. For example, the building of Jerusalem, its being laid out and its being restored to its original form are very important matters, any intelligent person can understand this. The Palace of Solomon is a historically important palace and rebuilding of it is a very wonderful thing, something a normal, devout person, a regular Jew, a Christian or a Muslim will welcome this with enthusiasm. Every Muslim, everybeliever will want to return to those days, to experience those days again and, albeit partially, to bring the beauty of those days back to life. That is what I meant. For example, it is a delightful and excellent thing to have the places where the Prophet Jesus walked restored and to keep them in order and kept them clean and for believers to go and eat, worship and pray there. A person lives this in his spirit anyway.

JOEL RICHARDSON: Final question: I was also fascinated to learn that you have been in dialogue with the Sanhedrin Rabbis of Jerusalem, of Israel. That you have been in contact with Rabbi Menachem Froman. And that you have a very warm relationship with these Rabbis and that they seem to be endorsing and commanding your call for a Turkish led Islamic union. Could you tell us a little bit about that? I was also interested to learn just before I came that this very influential Rabbi Menachem Froman had spoken with George Mitchel the Middle East envoy from the Obama administration and that he had personally appealed to Mr. Mitchel to utilize you as a significant peace negotiator for the Middle East. Would you be willing to share a few of those things? And then I will allow you to be released for the evening.

ADNAN OKTAR: Israel’s present position is not that comfortable, they are not comfortable there. Neither the Palestinians nor our Jewish brothers are comfortable there. Yet both are descended from the same line, from the line of Prophet Ibrahim. They are all the children of the Prophet Ibrahim. Of course our hearts want them all to live happily there. For example, there are huge walls in Israel, everywhere is surrounded by walls and they have imprisoned themselves behind them. Our hope is that those walls will come down in the time of Hazrat Mahdi (as). We hope that the region will open up and be at ease. And to let them live anywhere they like, let them, our Jewish and Christian brothers, to come to Jordan, to Turkey and come and live peacefully and happily in Turkey. Rather than squeezing them into a tiny space. The Armenians for instance, they are being squeezed into a very small country; let the borders be opened up and let them come to Turkey, as they are our brothers. Let us embrace them and let them live as they wish and be free, that is what we wish. Of course the Rabbis love me, that is the truth. They do love me a lot. They regard me as a good Muslim, as a good Muslim leader. But I do not regard myself as a future leader of the region in that sense, not as a Muslim leader with such a mission. I mean I do not have such a direction. However there are many people who can assume that leadership. Very worthy people. There are many people raised by Turkey. I can act as their advisor or even assistant, it could work like that, but we have many highly qualified people in Turkey who can serve as leader. Insha’Allah they will assume that task. Turkey will be the leader and my ideas will be the same as always, and I will contribute with my books and activities, insha’Allah. In other words, I will never accept any political role, but if spiritual support or service is needed I will happily provide it. That is the purpose of my life, and I will do it even if they do not want me. However they love me and I love them back, to say the truth I have a profound affection for them. We have also Christian brothers here and I love them, too. There are Orthodox and Catholics and Evangelicals, and we sometimes dine together, and I love them very deeply. They are entrusted to us by Allah, so there is no reason for us not to love them. Of course we will love them.

Our struggle should be against denial of Truth, especially against atheism, not against other believers. And even that struggle should be one emphasizing kindness and compassion knowing that most people today have lost their way.

Despite the urgent need for cooperation, certain circles are inciting conflict. The success of this incitement needs to be understood, not only in terms of materialism but also in terms of human emotions and sociological interactions, because without understanding at a very basic level it is hardly likely that a successful strategy be developed to counteract the incitement – or to address the factors which are perceived as excuses for the incitement. Without understanding the factors exacerbating conflict, it will hardly be possible to strengthen the dialogue and cooperation between civilizations. Today, many ideological struggles continue to divide the world. However, the major ideological conflict is not between religions, but between people who believe in Truth, in G-d’s existence and in the need for cooperation, on the one hand, and on the other hand people who deny Truth, who deny Holiness: – the unbelievers. There is only one way to defeat the alliance of the various groups of unbelievers on an ideological level: to discover all the economic, psychological and sociological forces which power this behavior, and to find a combination of economic, psychological and sociological forces to counteract and eradicate the negative and destructive influences of anti-religious materialism and further the cause of a society dominated by morality, happiness, tranquility, security, and prosperity. This will be done by forming an alliance of all conscientious people, namely, the righteous among Christians and Muslims, along with devout Jews, who will come together and unite in this common cause.

Thus the first project which must be undertaken is investigation and teaching, a new center of learning and law: the founding a new university. The purpose of this university is to investigate the mistaken ideologies which are the source of denial of God and Truth, and to develop ways to overcome them.

Oktar concurred, with a typical attack on science:

The whole world is literally under the control of a Darwinist, materialist dictatorship. Teachers at universities are unable to see that evolution is a lie and students cannot say a word of criticism of evolution in their exams, while conferences about Darwinism are even held in the Vatican. This is a clear sign of how grim the state of affairs is. Devout Jews, Muslims and Christians are oppressed everywhere in the world and unable to live according to their faiths, and in many places they are forbidden to remember Allah at all. And materialists and atheists are doing this together, they are in a total alliance against believers. Under these conditions, the alliance of true believers must also be a very powerful one. If we collaborate closely together then, insha’Allah, all of Asia, all the Middle East and the whole world will enter a perfect age of peace and ease. But of course Muslims and Jews, and also Christians, must ally themselves together. In fact, if the will exists the world can be made a perfect place in a week, a month, or at most a year. En excellent situation can be formed very quickly. But the whole problem lies in putting it into practice, practicalities, a climate of security, a climate of sincerity and fervent love. Let us tell young Israelis at universities of the existence and oneness of Allah. Let us describe the invalidity of Darwinism. Let us describe the invalidity of materialism. Let us tell young people in Palestine of the danger of atheism. Let us describe how Darwinism has collapsed and the true moral values of the Qur’an…Insha’Allah, atheism can have no effect once we have a generation that is well-informed against Darwinism, highly cultured, very devout, that fears Allah and has a strong love for Him and whose members love and respect one another.

MIAMI – Carlos has returned to hurricane strength as it moves further out into the open Pacific.Forecasters at the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said early Tuesday that the storm's winds had increased to near 75 mph (120 kph). Some strengthening is possible in the next day.As of 6 a.m. EDT, the storm was centered about 1465 miles (2,355 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. The storm was moving west at nearly 9 mph (15 kph) on a path taking it farther out to sea.Carlos was named a hurricane on Saturday but later weakened to a tropical storm.

Blackout brief for Charlottetown neighbourhood

Residents of the Brighton neighbourhood in Charlottetown were without power for about half an hour on Tuesday morning.The power went out shortly after 11 a.m., affecting 2,300 customers in Brighton and along North River Road. Maritime Electric rerouted the electricity, restoring affected customers about 30 minutes later.The utility sent a crew to see if the outage had been caused by an accident, but did not find anything.
Officials speculate it may have been caused by an animal.

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The Orthodox Union says it is deeply troubled by President Obama's desire to play an evenhanded role in the Middle East.The Orthodox Union asks our President to recognize that there are no moral equivalencies between Israel, which has acted time and again to defend itself while actively seeking peace, and those who reject Israel’s legitimacy and make war against her,OU President Stephen Savitsky said in a statement following the White House meeting Monday in which he was one of 16 Jewish leaders to sit down with the president.We look to the United States to be Israel’s friend in a world of enemies and we support the view, expressed to the President in our meeting, that while allies may of course disagree on specifics, there ought not be significant daylight between the United States and Israel that would give the nations’ mutual enemies comfort and encouragement.While a number of other organizations that participated in the meeting issued statements, the OU was the first to openly express disagreement with Obama on an issue discussed at the get-together.The OU statement did praise the president's recognition that there was a problematic perception gap that the onus for peace lies with Israel, and welcomed his stated intention to recalibrate his Administration’s actions in the coming weeks to make clear that the U.S. insists that concrete steps -- with regard to incitement and other anti-Israel activities -- must be taken by the Palestinians and others.The group also thanked Obama for his support of Israel's security and commitment to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Senate increases security funding for religious groups

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The U.S. Senate passed a bill that increases funding for the protection of civil, religious and community institutions against terrorist attacks.

The Homeland Security Appropriations Bill allocated an additional $5 million in federal resources for a total of $20 million to safeguard high-risk nonprofit organizations.United Jewish Communities, one of the bill's vocal supporters, welcomed its passage.Since Sept. 11th, nonprofits generally -- and Jewish community buildings and institutions specifically -- have been the victim of an alarming number of threats and attacks,said William Daroff, vice president for public policy and director of UJC’s Washington office. Congress continues to do its part by supporting this program to help make our communities and institutions safer.The increase in funding is in part a response to recent plots targeting religious institutions, including a foiled plan to bomb several synagogues in New York and the shooting attack at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.Among the bill's sponsors were Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles Schumer, both New York Democrats, Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.).

She is a strong supporter of cap-and-trade carbon emission controls, which will send many more American jobs overseas.According to Fabian Socialist George Bernard Shaw, they (Fabian Socialists) set out to Educate, Agitate, Organize. Relevant to Organize,Obama was a community organizer following the model of Saul Alinsky, author of Rules for Radicals (1971), which had an acknowledgement to Lucifer at the front. Relevant to Educate,John Lloyd (former executive director of the Kansas National Education Association) said that this Alinsky book has been the bible of the National Education Association (NEA). And relevant to Agitate,Alinsky wrote that the radical organizer dedicated to changing the life of a particular community must first rub raw the resentments of the people of the community; fan the latent hostilities of many of the people to the point of overt expression. He must search out controversy and issues…. An organizer must stir up dissatisfaction and discontent….Obama has been a radical organizer dedicated to changing America, which is now headed down the path toward Socialism as desired by the Fabians.

Certain type of music can have a calming or soothing effect. However, according to Oliver Sacks (Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center),music of a particular sort can actually trigger seizures.In Plato’s Republic, he stated that the introduction of a new kind of music can alter the character of a nation.The modern assault upon traditional American moral values began with the permissiveness of the Roaring 20s (e.g., look at the lyrics of the popular 1921 song Sheik of Araby). In previous columns, I have quoted from Antonio Gramsci, John Dewey, and Edward Bernays concerning their roles in altering societies and values, and in this column I’ll focus on the role of music in this regard.After the Roaring 20s, in 1934, the bisexual Cole Porter introduced a popular musical and song by the title Anything Goes,which was about a shift away from restrictive codes of conduct. And in 1936, Irving Berlin composed the music and lyrics for the motion picture Follow the Fleet starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, in which she sang Let Yourself Go.In that same movie, Harriet Hilliard (later to be Harriet Nelson of Ozzie and Harriet TV fame) sang a song with the following lyrics: Get thee behind me, Satan… but the moon is low and I can’t say no. Get thee behind me, Satan, but the moon is low and I may let go. Get thee behind me. Someone I’m mad about is waiting in the night for me, someone that I mustn’t see. Satan, get thee behind me. He promised to wait, but I won’t appear, and he may come here. Satan, he’s at my gate. Get thee behind me. Stay where you are. It’s too late.The message is clear – resistance to temptation is futile (also look at the lyrics of the popular 1942 song That Old Black Magic).

Two years after Follow the Fleet,in February 1938, Theodor Adorno (formerly of the Frankfurt School in Germany) was made chief of the music division of Princeton University’s Radio Project, which was funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. Adorno believed that repetition in music and other areas could create popularity, and that one could change the culture away from the authoritarian personality (belief in traditional authority) toward the revolutionary,liberating individuals from traditional values. He also believed that the mass media could be used for opinion management.In 1941, Adorno left the Radio Project and moved to the University of California in Los Angeles where he taught for seven years, teaming with Max Horkheimer in 1947 to authorDialectic of Enlightenment. Horkheimer was director of the Frankfurt School during the 1930s and believed that authority within the family structure was a serious problem to be eliminated. In 1947, he also authored Eclipse of Reason, and in 1950 Adorno authored The Authoritarian Personalityindicating that those who emphasized their family, nation, or race, actually had a psychiatric disorder. Adorno also theorized that an emphasis on fractious music could help destabilize society.[See DVD They Sold Their Souls for Rock-N-Roll]In 1951, Ohio disc jockey Alan Freed invented the phrase rock & roll,which had sexual connotations. Rock & roll placed a heavy emphasis upon the beat and rhythm, and famous composer and conductor Dimitri Tiomkin would later judge that the big beat is deliberately aimed at exciting the listener. There is actually very little melody, only rhythm…. We seem to be reverting to savagery…. Youngsters who listen constantly to this sort of sound are thrust into turmoil. They are no longer relaxed, normal kids.Tiomkin’s analysis was supported by Aldous Huxley’s statement in his The Devils of Loudun (1952): If exposed long enough to the tomtoms and the singing, every one of our philosophers would end by capering and howling with the savages…. Assemble a mob of men and women previously conditioned by a daily reading of newspapers; treat them to amplified band music, bright lights… and in next to no time you can reduce them to a state of almost mindless subhumanity. Never before have so few been in a position to make fools, maniacs, or criminals of so many.In 1933 in The Shape of Things to Come, H.G. Wells had foretold of growing criminally infected areas after WWII (he said the war would begin in about seven years).

Scientifically supporting what Tiomkin and Huxley said, in 1957 Dr. William Sargent, former president of the Section of Psychiatry in the Royal Society of Medicine (London) authored Battle for the Mind: The Mechanics of Indoctrination, Brainwashing, and Thought Control revealing that electrical recordings of the human brain show that it is particularly sensitive to rhythmic stimulation by percussion and bright lights…. Certain rates of rhythm can build up reportable abnormalities of brain function and explosive states. Furthermore, it is easier to disorganize the normal function of the brain by attacking it simultaneously with several strong rhythms played in different tempos.Sargent then stated:Belief can be implanted in people after brain function has been sufficiently disturbed by accidentally or deliberately induced fear, anger, or excitement. Of the results caused by such disturbances, the most common one is temporarily impaired judgment and heightened suggestability.Three years later, The Beatles formed in 1960 in a transition from rock & roll to rock music, and by 1967 their Sgt. Pepper’s album had definite drug implications (even the U.N. Bulletin on Narcotics warned about it). Hackers: We can now steal data via electrical outlet

A few years ago, the idea of using nothing more than a standard electrical outlet to hack into sensitive computer systems would be the stuff of Hollywood -- and far-fetched, eye-rolling Hollywood at that.I can almost picture the scene: A wily Justin Long taps a few keys on his laptop and we watch the signal race through the power grid to his target, where a hapless government employee types his password into the ultra-secure computer at headquarters. Back with Long, we watch the password show up on his computer screen, as if by magic, thanks to his nifty hacking skills.It sounds ridiculous.But it turns out, well, it's basically a reality.At the Black Hat USA conference later this month, hackers are preparing to unveil their methodology to steal information typed on a computer keyboard using nothing more than the power outlet to which the computer is connected.

The technique behind the exploit isn't as wildly high-tech as you might think, though. Old-fashioned electrical properties are the key to the trick. Here's how it works (in simple terms): When you type on a standard computer keyboard, electrical signals run through the cable to the PC. Those cables aren't shielded, so the signal leaks via the ground wire in the cable and into the ground wire on the computer's power supply.The attacker connects a probe to a nearby power socket (perhaps in the vacant office next door or a hotel room across the hall), detects the ground leakage, and converts the signal back into alphanumeric characters. So far, the attack has proven successful using outlets up to about 15 meters away. If you've got a wireless keyboard or are working on a laptop unplugged from the wall, which would make this attack useless, fret not: The hackers have a method for eavesdropping on you too. A simple laser beam -- better than a laser pointer, but not by much -- can be pointed a shiny object on the table where the computer sits, and the beam's reflection is captured by a receiving system. The vibration of that reflection caused by the striking of keys can be analyzed and, as with the electrical outlet system described above, reconstructed into words, since every key produces a unique vibration pattern. All this technique requires is a direct line of sight to the PC and a few hundred dollars worth of equipment.Be safe out there, folks.

If you haven't received a come-on from Tagged.com, you're definitely in the minority. Emails from the supposed social networking site have often been a daily occurrence, and they're always enticing with their so-and-so sent you photos on Tagged! content.

The problem: Virtually no one has ever sent anyone photos on Tagged. Instead, what happens is that when recipients receive those messages about photos and click on the links to sign up, Tagged scours their address book and sends an identical message to everyone in it. No photos are ever sent, of course, but Tagged gains more and more users, avalanche style, as the clicks continue to add up.Tagged says it obtained 80 million members this way -- all through the power of what are essentially spam techniques.And now the G-men are getting involved, as New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo says that Tagged.com amounts to a giant identity theft operation, which he plans to sue for deceptive marketing and invasion of privacy.In a statement he says,Consumers had their privacy invaded and were forced into the embarrassing position of having to apologize to all their email contacts for Tagged's unethical -- and illegal -- behavior.The upcoming lawsuit is said to seek to put an end to the dubious user harvesting practice and aims to collect fines from Tagged as well.

Meanwhile, if you've noticed a decrease in the flood of messages, it's because Tagged suspended the above-described email campaign last month, reportedly because of user complaints. (Some members complained that they had inadvertently elected to send invitations to all the contacts they had uploaded,says the company.) The company however is still in operation, and visitors to its home page are offered the opportunity to access chat, flirt, photos, games, and more! Tagged defends itself and offers its side of the story in a blog post. Is what Tagged doing illegal? You be the judge -- but both Classmates and Reunion.com, which took similarly deceptive paths toward obtaining members, have been sued for the practice.

Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro offered EU visa-free travel

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – The citizens of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro should be allowed to travel visa-free to the EU's borderless Schengen area next year, the European Commission proposed on Wednesday (15 July).It is a historic step in our relations with the western Balkan countries,EU justice commissioner Jacques Barrot told journalists in Brussels while presenting the proposal together with enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn.It really is a great day for the peoples of the western Balkans [and] for Europe, Mr Rehn said.Visa-free travel means no more queuing at embassies … [and] no more collecting of supporting documents. The citizens of these countries will be able to visit family and friends in EU… without having to undergo heavy visa procedures, he added.The lengthy and difficult process of obtaining a visa to enter the EU was imposed on the western Balkan countries – Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania – in the aftermath of the 1990s Yugoslav war, with the bloc promising as far back as 2003 to start talks with the countries' governments to lift this obligation.The visa liberalisation process eventually started last year with all the countries with the exception of Croatia, which already benefits from visa-free travel, and Kosovo, which was excluded from the process due to security concerns,Mr Rehn said.This doesn't mean Kosovo is forgotten, he added, stressing that it was a purely technical decision.In the autumn the commission is to publish a feasibility study on Kosovo where certainly the visa issue will also be addressed.The newly constituted European Parliament is now to be consulted on the commission's proposal and then EU member states are expected to give a final green light to it probably at the end of October.Under this scenario, and provided that Serbia and Montenegro meet a few open benchmarks by then, citizens from the three countries could travel to the EU's borderless Schengen area – which currently includes all EU countries minus Ireland, the UK, Bulgaria, Romania and Cyprus, but plus Norway, Iceland and Switzerland - as of January 2010.

Creating two classes of Balkan citizens

The decision to leave out Albania and Bosnia from the visa liberalisation proposal has provoked criticism in some circles, with Brussels accused of isolating the Balkans' Muslim population.In an open letter, Christian Schwarz-Schilling, the international community's former high representative to Bosnia, conservative German MEP Doris Pack, Green leaders Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Rebecca Harms, as well as a number of academics and analysts, said that by not granting visa-free travel to all Balkan citizens, the EU was creating two classes of citizens in South Eastern Europe, based on ethnicity.The European Commission ignores that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia are almost at the same level with regard to the introduction of biometric passports and a variety of legislative acts agreed on the visa liberalisation roadmap,states the letter.The authors argue that Bosnia's Muslim population – the Bosniaks – will be isolated, as the country's two other main ethnic groups, Croats and Serbs, the majority of whom have Croat and Serb passports, will be able to travel freely as of next year.De facto, ethnic criteria will decide on whether a citizen is able to travel freely to the EU,they say.

Visa liberalisation is not a political decision

The commission rejected the accusations, insisting that there were clear criteria to be fulfilled in order for a country to get into the Schengen white list, and that neither Albania nor Bosnia had met these criteria yet.Granting visa-free travel… is not a matter of a simple political decision, Mr Rehn said.Albania and Bosnia have the same conditions as the others and once they meet these conditions, they too can travel visa-free, he added.The conditions include introducing biometric passports and improving passport security; strengthening border controls; reinforcing the institutional framework to better fight organised crime and corruption; as well as improving external relations and fundamental rights.I believe both countries will soon catch up with their neighbours. If all the conditions are fulfilled, the Commission could envisage making a new proposal, which would include them, by mid-2010,the enlargement commissioner said.He also pointed out that in the particular case of Bosnia, too much time and energy has been consumed in recent years in nationalistic rhetoric instead of taking serious political decisions for the benefit of the citizens.It is all in the hands of their own leaders now,he stressed.

Czechs want EU response after Canada imposes visas

The Czech government has called for EU solidarity after Canada decided to stop its visa-free regime with Prague due to an increasing number of Czech Roma applicants for asylum in Canada.Two years after abolishing visa requirements for Czechs as a new member nation of the European Union, Canada re-introduced the visa obligation for all visitors from the country on Tuesday (14 July), following several diplomatic warnings about the likely move.Although aware of the problem of asylum seekers of Roma origin and Ottawa's plans to tackle it, Czech officials stated that the decision was one-sided and unfair and should be protested by all of Europe.As a response Prague withdrew its ambassador to Canada and imposed visas for Canadian diplomats. Imposition of visas for all Canadian citizens would need to be agreed in co-operation with other EU states.But the Czech government has also officially requested the European Commission to invoke the bloc's solidarity procedure which could theoretically result in a decision by all 27 EU member states to introduce visa to Canada.I'm curious to know how the other EU member states will react, Czech prime minister Jan Fischer told reporters in Strasbourg on Tuesday, after meeting commission president Jose Manuel Barroso to discuss the matter.The Czech leader said Mr Barroso had already spoken to Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper and promised he would try hard to help Prague to achieve the lifting of the visa requirements from Czechs.We expect the measures introduced by Canada to be temporary, and we hope that full visa-free travel between the EU and Canada is re-established soon, the commission spokesman Michele Cercone told journalists in Brussels.The EU executive will reply to Prague's official request within three months and submit a report assessing the demand for reciprocity to the council, representing member states. The council then has another three months to decide what action to take.But Canadian authorities have defended their proceedings and refuted Prague's criticism. The country's immigration minister Jason Kenney also downplayed the possibility of a joint EU reaction as asked for by the Czechs.I met with [the EU's] acting ambassador yesterday and they gave no indication of such a measure,he told CTV News Channel Tuesday afternoon.The minister argued that Canada cannot let migrants from other countries abuse its generous, open immigration system, one of the most generous in the world.We can't allow the systematic abuse of people who are basically coming to Canada as economic migrants, jumping the queue, by going through the backdoor of the asylum system,said Mr Kenney. Spain risks losing EU regional funds

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – The European Commission on Friday will present several changes to the use of regional policy funds, but these will not include an expected extension of the use of money from 2007, with Spain set to lose hundreds of millions of euros.The phrase Spaniards do not want to hear these days is that their country "faces the risk of decommitment," meaning it could lose considerable amounts of its multi-billion EU regional aid by the end of this year.Under present EU funding rules, which were strengthened in 2007 to prevent fraud and irregularities, member states have to get their national and regional frameworks for EU projects pre-audited and cross-checked by the European Commission, before any actual payments can be made. A small part of funding is given in advance, but most of it comes on a reimbursement basis. Spain now risks losing hundreds of millions because most of its framework programmes have not been approved yet and claims for 2007 can only be submitted for reimbursement by 31 December 2009. The total amount Spain could claim for 2007 is €6.3billion.Madrid had pushed for a one-year extension of this rule, especially since new member states have three years at their disposal to submit reimbursement claims. Up until 2007, Spain also was in the three-year category. Yet the proposals to be tabled on Friday by the European Commission do not include this change.The European Commission is working with Spain and all the member states to finalise this process as effectively as possibly,Dennis Abbott, spokesman for the EU commission told this website.But we can't cut corners, not with taxpayers' money,he added.A spokeswoman for the Spanish permanent representation to the EU refused to make any comments until the final proposals were published.Spain's struggle with the tougher regulations is surprising, as the country has always been considered something of a champion of regional funding for the efficient way it used EU aid to boost its competitiveness and create new jobs.As of Tuesday (14 July), Spain had submitted 22 of its 23 so-called compliance assessment reports which have to be approved by the commission in order to start the flow of EU money. But 16 regional reports and one national report were sent back for further clarification, since the control mechanisms and the structure of the intermediate bodies was unclear.Italy and Great Britain are also facing similar problems, although their total amounts are far smaller.

More money for unemployment and housing for the poor

The real purpose of the proposals to be tabled on Friday is to amend current EU legislation on the use of regional funding to temporarily allow member states to get fully reimbursed for social projects aimed at tackling unemployment.Currently, member states, regions and municipalities have to co-finance the social projects by between 15-50 percent. The proposals will not extend the full reimbursement measure to the larger regional fund – the so-called European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) disposing of €200 billion in 2007-2014. The temporary measure will only apply to projects financed from the European Social Fund, which has €70 billion at its disposal.Big donor states, notably Germany and the Netherlands, were opposed to full reimbursements from all regional funds, stressing that job creation is mainly a task for the social fund.The commission will also propose extending the scope of the housing projects, currently limited to urban areas. Under the new draft, funding for reconstruction, but also replacement of houses in poor neighbourhoods will also apply to rural areas in the new member states, for instance in Roma communities.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Political group leaders in the European Parliament are on Thursday set to decide to put a vote on Jose Manuel Barroso's bid for a second term as European commission president on September's plenary agenda.The move follows a gentleman's agreement between the three biggest groups in the parliament, the centre-right EPP, the Socialists and the Liberals.Tomorrow we will set the date for a vote in September,said Joseph Daul, head of the EPP, on Wednesday (15 July), whose group is the key supporter of Mr Barroso.Mr Daul also sought to reassure the Portuguese politician that the political group still fully supports him as debate within parliament's walls about his candidacy is getting increasingly strident.Our candidate is Mr Barroso. We stick by him through thick and thin.But while the EPP may have succeeded in getting the vote on the agenda of the plenary session amid fears that it could have been delayed further - other groups are keen to stress that this does not mean Mr Barroso is in the clear.The socialists, looking for plum portfolios in the next commission, published an 11-point plan earlier this week and stressed that Mr Barroso's programme for the next five years must reflect this. A recovery plan for Europe, a social progress pact and a new legal framework clarifying the status of public services feature among their demands.The Liberals have five demands that they want to see in his programme including future initiatives on a single European recovery plan, a single European financial supervisor and moves towards a European tax.

Writing political guidelines

The ball is now in Mr Barroso's court. He has been asked to publish a written programme by the beginning of September. Shortly afterwards he will meet each of the seven political groups in the parliament.On the basis of these meetings and his programme, the groups will decide whether to support him or not.For his part, Mr Barroso said he very much welcomed all suggestions made by the groups, adding that he is currently working on political guidelines for the next commission.The Socialists, Liberals, Greens and far-left are in the unsure or downright against Mr Barroso camp.

On Tuesday, Socialist chief Martin Schulz in reference to the September vote said:I am really not sure he will gain a majority.A simple majority of those present in the chamber is needed to secure the post.The debate surrounding Mr Barroso has started to take on a personal note among the Socialists and the Greens.He is not up to the job either politically or in terms of his programme,said Mr Schulz on Tuesday while Daniel Cohn-Bendit, head of the greens, said that as Mr Barroso gets on well with all the governments he could be their maitre'd as president of the union, a job created by the Lisbon Treaty.The Liberals, for their part, insist that it is not a question of personalities but about a programme.

Brussels expresses concern at Germany's court judgement

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso has expressed concern at a judgement by Germany's constitutional court on the Lisbon Treaty, fearing it could undermine the European project.The possible implications of the 147-page ruling is slowly becoming clear after the initial relief expressed in Brussels that the EU's new treaty was given the green light.Germany's judges on 30 June said the Lisbon document is compatible with the country's constitution but said parliament should have the final say if the EU wanted to extend the competences beyond what is contained in the treaty.They also criticised the European Parliament - set to gain greater co-legislative powers under the treaty – as not being representative of the will of the European people but rather a body representing member states. In addition, the judges ruled that Germany's highest court should have final say on interpretation of EU law allowing it to overturn judgements by the bloc's highest court, the European Court of Justice (ECJ).Mr Barroso on Wednesday (15 July) said the judgement raises very important and sensitive issues in terms of the competence of the European Union and other competences, namely on the understanding of the principle of subsidiarity.Subsidiarity is the principle that decisions should be taken at the most local level possible. The court effectively ruled that it would uphold the principle to make sure decisions taken at EU level could not have better been taken at nation level.Mr Barroso said the judgement was extremely important for the way member states understand respect for community law.ECJ case law has established the supremacy of community law over national law and the court has the last say on interpretation of EU law. To date, its judgements have led to a series of integrative steps in the bloc.

This is because the court rules often in areas where member states have competences. It does this by basing its judgements on the principle of upholding the integrity of the internal market, an elastic category.Mr Barroso, who will express a formal opinion on the judgement at a later point, said the issues it raises have to be discussed politically.He said it is important to clear up what is now the understanding of the principles of subsidiarity and how can we make that democratic principle, which is very important, compatible with our common European project.

Debate in Germany

The ruling has also raised strong debate in Germany. Some politicians, particularly from the CSU, sister party to the governing Christian Democratic Union, now want Germany's parliament to have the right to approve Berlin's position before it negotiates EU decisions in Brussels.But this has been strongly opposed by others. Elmar Brok, a German centre-right MEP, on Tuesday said Germany would not be able to negotiate under such circumstances.As majority voting is applied in most cases, this would mean that Germany could only say yes or no. That would mean loss of influence for Germany and we should not allow that.The MEP, who sat on the convention that drew up the Lisbon Treaty's predecessor, the EU constitution, told Deutschlandfunk that if all parliaments in the member states were to take this position then we can shut up shop here as there would be no more negotiation and no more possibility for agreement.

The sudden decision to allow Mr Kaminski to take the group chairmanship as a consolation prize is a clear indication of the desire of the UK conservatives' – the chief architects of the ECR group - to keep the Polish members from the Law and Justice party (PiS) on board. Mr Kaminski had been the official ECR candidate for one of the parliamentary vice-presidents but lost out when renegade MEP Edward McMillan-Scott, also a British conservative and a member of the ECR group, decided to run as well.Because of Mr McMillan-Scott's actions, the prior agreement [whereby Mr Kirkhope would become chairman of the ECR group] fell through,ECR spokesman James Holtum told EUobserver. The ECR group of 55 MEPs is dominated by three member states: the UK Conservatives contributing 26 MEPs, Poland's PiS contributing 15 MEPs, and the Czech Republic's Civic Democratic Party adding a further 9 MEPs. The party is opposed to a further centralisation of power in Brussels.

Purposes of unity

Mr McMillan-Scott was quickly kicked out from the UK Conservative party delegation to the ECR on Tuesday night but remains within the group for the time being although insiders say he is likely to be expelled shortly. His decision to stand for, and eventually win, a vice-presidential post without his group's backing was reportedly the result of his concerns over the presence of extremist groups within the new ECR bloc.The PiS has a poor record on supporting gay rights, having banned a number of gay marches in the past. Mr McMillan-Scott was also highly critical of the UK Conservatives' move to leave the larger European Peoples Party, and is thought to be keen to rejoin the group if expelled from the ECR.But his move to stand for parliamentary vice-president proved highly unpopular within the ECR group, especially amongst the Polish delegation. An ECR source, who wished to remain anonymous, told this website that last night's decision to allow Mr Kaminski to take the group's chairmanship was for the purposes of unity and was a clear move to appease the Polish delegation.Mr Kaminski's election as ECR chairman makes him the first deputy from a central or eastern European to head a political group within the parliament, and comes on the same day that Polish MEP Jerzy Buzek was elected as parliament president.He has close links with current Polish president Lech Kaczynski, standing down from his post of MEP in 2007 to serve as the president's secretary of state for two years, before being re-elected as an MEP this June. In 1999 Mr Kaminski caused a scandal in Poland by visiting the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet in London. He was a member of the Polish parliament at the time.

EUOBSERVER / STRASBOURG – The newly-formed European Conservatives and Reformists group (ECR) is embroiled in a kerfuffle over a vice-presidency post in the European Parliament.Edward McMillan-Scott, a UK Conservative, has been expelled from the Conservative Party after staging a renegade bid for the post. His actions resulted in Michal Tomasz Kaminski, a Polish MEP and official candidate of the anti-federalist group for the post, not getting elected as one of the parliament's 14 vice-presidents. Mr McMillan-Scott had his whip suspended when he indicated he was putting in his nomination for vice president of the European Parliament,a spokesperson for the Conservatives told the Daily Telegraph.The move exposes the divisions within the British Conservatives about the wisdom of moving away from its alliance of previous years with the European People's Party - the EU's assembly's biggest political group - to set up a new faction with socially conservative allies, mainly from Poland.

A UK conservative, who strongly opposed the party setting up its own political shop in the parliament, Mr McMillan-Scott was not put forward by the ECR group but instead gained entry to the candidate list through the backing of 40 individual MEPs. There is now speculation about whether Mr McMillan-Scott will be accepted in to the EPP as an independent British MEP, reducing membership of the ECR to 54 deputies. Mr Kaminski narrowly lost out to MEP Silvana Koch-Mehrin for the last place after three rounds of voting. The German Liberal caused a sensation last year when she claimed male MEPs wanted to keep Strasbourg as the venue for the monthly plenary sessions as it made it easier for them to visit prostitutes.This claim, along with a poor attendance record and a series of run-ins with the media, has not helped the MEP climb the popularity rankings within the EU legislature.Earlier on Tuesday, Socialist leader Martin Schulz, also from Germany, said her concentration on activities outside the EU institution meant she was less popular with people inside the European Parliament than outside.

First, second and third ballots

Three candidates successfully obtained the absolute majority necessary to be elected after the first paper ballot on Tuesday. These were Italian Giovanni Pittella and Greek Stavros Lambrinidis from the Socialist and Democrats group, and Rodi Kratsa-Tsagarapoulou from the EPP group, also from Greece. Traditionally the first three vice-presidents elected have greater powers than the other vice-presidents, including the right to sit on the parliament's conciliation committee – a body that attempts to unblock disputes between member states and the parliament over draft legislation.

After a second ballot none of the remaining candidates won an absolute majority sending MEPs to the ballot box for the third and final time, after which the candidates were elected according to the number of votes they obtained. As well as the storm within the ECR group, some in France are unhappy that no French candidate was put forward for one of the largely ceremonial posts.

A leading defence expert has projected that China will attack India by 2012 to divert the attention of its own people from unprecedented internal dissent, growing unemployment and financial problems that are threatening the hold of Communists in that country.China will launch an attack on India before 2012. There are multiple reasons for a desperate Beijing to teach India the final lesson, thereby ensuring Chinese supremacy in Asia in this century, Bharat Verma, Editor of the Indian Defence Review, has said.Verma said the recession has shut the Chinese exports shop, creating an unprecedented internal social unrest which in turn, was severely threatening the grip of the Communists over the society.Among other reasons for this assessment were rising unemployment, flight of capital worth billions of dollars, depletion of its foreign exchange reserves and growing internal dissent, Verma said in an editorial in the forthcoming issue of the premier defence journal. In addition to this, The growing irrelevance of Pakistan, their right hand that operates against India on their behest, is increasing the Chinese nervousness,he said, adding that US President Barak Obama’s Af-Pak policy was primarily Pak-Af policy that has intelligently set the thief to catch the thief.Verma said Beijing was already rattled, with its proxy Pakistan now literally embroiled in a civil war, losing its sheen against India.Above all, it is worried over the growing alliance of India with the US and the West, because the alliance has the potential to create a technologically superior counterpoise.

All these three concerns of Chinese Communists are best addressed by waging a war against pacifist India to achieve multiple strategic objectives,he said.While China covertly allowed North Korea to test underground nuclear explosion and carry out missile trials, it was also increasing its naval presence in South China Sea to coerce into submission those opposing its claim on the Sprately Islands,the defence expert said. He said it would be unwise at this point of time for a recession-hit China to move against the Western interests, including Japan.Therefore, the most attractive option is to attack a soft target like India and forcibly occupy its territory in the Northeast,Verma said. But India is least prepared on ground to face the Chinese threat, he says and asks a series of questions on how will India respond to repulse the Chinese game plan or whether Indian leadership would be able to take the heat of war.Is Indian military equipped to face the two-front wars by Beijing and Islamabad? Is the Indian civil administration geared to meet the internal security challenges that the external actors will sponsor simultaneously through their doctrine of unrestricted warfare? The answers are an unequivocal no. Pacifist India is not ready by a long shot either on the internal or the external front,the defence journal editor says. In view of the imminent threat posed by China, the quickest way to swing out of pacifism to a state of assertion is by injecting military thinking in the civil administration to build the sinews. That will enormously increase the deliverables on ground – from Lalgarh to Tawang,he says.

Any NKorean attack would be sudden but futile: US general

A senior US military officer said Tuesday that any North Korean attack on South Korea would be sudden and extremely destructive, but would ultimately fail.
Major General Johnny A. Weida, outgoing deputy chief of staff for the US Forces Korea, also said such an attack is highly unlikely because it would spell the end of Kim Jong-Il's regime.More than two-thirds of the North's forces are within 90 km (56 miles) of the border with South Korea, Weida said.They could attack, if they were so inclined, with very little notice,he told a group of civilians touring the Demilitarised Zone on the frontier.The US stations 28,500 troops to support South Korea's 655,000-strong military against the North.It is our assessment that, because of their failing economy and limited support from traditional allies like Russia and China, they could not sustain a major offensive like they did in the first Korean War,Weida said.His comments were reported by Yonhap news agency and confirmed by a US military spokesman.The communist North in May lashed out at South Korea's decision to join a US-led anti-proliferation initiative as tantamount to a declaration of war, and threatened an attack if any of its ships are stopped.Leaders of its 1.2-million-strong military declared themselves no longer bound by the armistice which ended the 1950-53 war on the peninsula.North Korea is considered the world's fourth largest military power with the largest special forces unit and artillery units, Weida said. Their attack, however limited, would be extremely destructive to South Korea,he said.

Weida described the North's leader Kim as a pretty frail, sick man.South Korean cable news station YTN said this week, in an unconfirmed report, that Kim has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is widely believed to have suffered a stroke last August.If he miscalculates and attacks South Korea, he and his regime are done, Weida said, calling such an offensive extremely unlikely because this guy (Kim) wants to live.
