Neptune Linked to Potential Swarm of Asteroids By Ker Than,Staff Writer,02:05 pm

ET Astronomers have detected three new rocky bodies which share the same orbit as Neptune as it travels around the Sun.The finding, detailed in the June 16 issue of the journal Science, brings the total number of the gas giant's asteroid companions, or “Trojans,” up to four. The highly inclined orbit of one of them supports the hypothesis that the Neptune Trojans were captured from a much larger asteroid "cloud" that surrounds the planet, and that they are not the broken remains of some larger object as some scientists have speculated. The Trojans gather around one of Neptune's two so-called "Lagrangian" points. In these regions—located 60 degrees in front of and behind the planet in its orbit—the Sun and Neptune's gravity combine to ensnare passing objects.

The orbit of one of the new Trojans is tilted about 25 degrees relative to the plane that Neptune orbits the Sun, compared to only about 5 degrees for the other three Trojans. The way the survey was set up, it was very unlikely that such a highly inclined object would be detected. The fact that it was indicates that there are at least as many—and possibly more—highly inclined Trojans existing far from the solar system plane compared to low inclination ones, said study team member Chadwick Trujillo of the Gemini Observatory Hawaii. The Neptune Trojans are a thick 'swarm,' not a thin population confined to the plane,Trujillo told SPACE.com.

BUSH STATMENTS WITH EU LEADERS

We with talked about Lebanon and the need for Lebanon to be free from Syrian influence. We worked very closely together at the United Nations to send that clear message to the Syrians: Leave Lebanon alone. Let them be. Let them be a free democracy, which is a necessary part of laying the foundation for peace in the Middle East. We talked about Israel and Palestine. I assured the leaders here that my position is firm, and that is I envision two states living side by side in peace. And we want to help. On the other hand, we're not going to deal with a government that has made the destruction of Israel one of its key policy platforms. How can you be side by side in peace if part of your platform is the destruction of one of the countries you're supposed to be at peace with?

On trade talks:

We talked about development and prosperity. Listen, we're trading partners. And we got to make sure that commerce and trade and capital continues to flow freely between the E.U. and America. And we talked about some of the impediments to capital flows. ... Obviously, the Doha round of the WTO was ... a tough subject because we're trying to make difficult adjustments to our own internal policy in order to ... reach an agreement that's fair for all of us. But the good news is that we were very frank in our discussions. I mean, the Europeans have problems with the U.S. position. We have problems with the European position. We both have problems with the G-20 position. But the point is we're committed to a successful round. ... My view is that we can't let this round fail. A failed WTO round would be missed opportunity, particularly to help people ... who are impoverished. ... The best way to help lift people out of poverty is trade. And we can give all the money you want - and my government has been very generous on account of Africa. We're joining with the Europeans to fight HIV/AIDS and to deal with hunger. But if you're really interested in development, the best way to do it is to have a successful round at the WTO.

On Iran:

It's very important for the leadership in Iran to look at the world and say, Europe and the United States and Russia and China are united in our common desire to make sure that Iranians do not develop a nuclear weapon. And step one of achieving a diplomatic success is to share a goal. And there's no question we share the goal of Iran not having the capacity and/or a nuclear weapon. It would be - it would be a terrible situation if they developed a weapon. And so the second phase of a diplomatic strategy is to have a common front - a common diplomatic front that says clearly to the Iranians, Here's the way forward for it, but you get to choose.

And so I said to my counterparts here that, We'll come to the table to negotiate, so long as Iranians verifiably end any enrichment activities. The Iranians have said that they will end uranium-enrichment activities before. That's what they told E.U.-3. We're just asking them to do what they already said they would do. But it's their choice to make. And I'm convinced that when they look and see that we're working very closely together, that they will see the seriousness of our intent to resolve this in a diplomatic and peaceful way.

On North Korea:

The North Koreans have made agreements with us in the past, and we expect them to keep their agreements. For example, agreements on test launches: We think it'd be in the world's interest to know what they're testing, what they intend to do on their test. It should make people nervous when non-transparent regimes that have announced that they've got nuclear warheads fire missiles. And so we've been working with our partners, particularly in that part of the world, to say to the North Koreans that, This is not the way you conduct business in the world. This is not the way that peaceful nations conduct their affairs. I was pleased to see that the Chinese spoke out to the North Korean government and suggested they not fire whatever it is on their missile. And we'll see whether or not the North Koreans listen. Responding to a reporter's question about whether U.S. is threat to global stability: That's absurd. ...we'll defend ourselves, but at the same times we're actively working with our partners to spread peace and democracy. So whoever says that is - it's just - that's an absurd statement. http://www.g20.org/Public/index.jsp

Responding to question on Iran:

Our position, is that we'll come to the table when they verifiably suspend - period. And we expect them to verifiably suspend. This is what they said they would do to the E.U.-3. Secondly, the August 22nd date ... it shouldn't take the Iranians that long to analyze what is a reasonable deal.

Give CSME a try ,Published on: 6/18/06.

CSME stands for CARICOM Single Market and Economy. It is a single economic system that is designed to facilitate the pooling of the region's financial, human and natural resources in order to build the economic capacity required to effectively respond to globalisation and the emergence of mega trading blocks. In 1989, the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean community recognised the need to deepen the integration process in response to the changing world economic environment. This led to the decision to establish a single market economy. Although there are some good aspects of CSME there are also some bad ones. Some of the positives from the CSME include "cross border" travel, hassle-free trade, and provision of services. The bad thing about CSME is that when all the currency is put into one that will devalue the money. Since Barbados is one of the most high paying countries everyone will want to be heading to Barbados. Families will be coming, which will mean a bigger housing demand and school facilities. But we never know how it will turn out, so give it a try. – GAIL-ANN SENHOUSE

Nostradamus predicts Spanish World Cup win ,By: ThinkSpain

According to a report on the '20minutos' website, French medic and prophet Michel de Notredame (1503-1566), better known as Nostradamus, predicted that Spain will win the Germany 2006 World Cup finals. The prophecy predicts that: "At the end of the sixth month of 2006, the King of Spain will cross the Pyrenees with his army. The legions of Beelzebub await the battle on the central European planes. Destruction and defeat will fall on the evil-doers. The Holy Grail will be returned to Spain by the triumphant King.

Having beaten Tunisia 3-1 and Ukraine 4-0, Spain are through to the last sixteen. Spain's final group game will be against Saudi Arabia at 4pm, this Friday, 23rd June (Canal Cuatro, La Sexta). Should they win the group, Spain could face France, who were held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea in their second game, having drawn against Switzerland last Tuesday. Switzerland beat Togo 2-0 and currently top the group on goal difference, tied on four points with South Korea, who beat Togo 1-0 in their opening game.
